just a reminder that you can call your reps everyday and leave voice messages outside of office hours! calls usually go to congressional staffers if not interns who tally up the amount of calls made for which specific issues. these numbers are then passed along to the representative in question. don’t worry abt how you sound, you don’t need to persuade anyone over the phone. this is a numbers game, so the more calls you can make, the more that tally goes up. it takes no time, none of my calls even go for a minute, just makes sure you speak clearly so they know which issue to count for

the scripts i’ve been using have been collected from other ppl who have made calls or simplified from email scripts. they’re geared towards ppl in the US, but your call can be as simple and straightforward as asking for a ceasefire in gaza:

“Hi, I’d like to leave a comment with [representative] to say that I strongly oppose the US’s relations with Israel and stand strongly with Palestine, and I’m asking that [representative] do the same. I urge [him/her] to vote FOR House Resolution 786 and AGAINST any bill that supports Israel, and I will be basing my vote in the upcoming elections on how [he/she] chooses to proceed.”

“Hi, I noticed that [representative] is cosponsoring the Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act, and I do not support my taxpayer money aiding in Israel’s occupation of Palestine. So I strongly urge that [he/she] reevaluates and conditions this assistance to prevent anymore human rights violations.”

“I’m calling because I noticed that [representative] is standing with Israel, and I just wanted to say that I don’t support my taxpayer money aiding in Israel’s occupation of Palestine. Our priority should be preventing Israel from causing anymore destruction to Palestine, and I hope [he/she] stands with Cori Bush’s Ceasefire Now Act.”

“I’m calling in from [my district] abt House Resolution 768: The Extreme Risk Protection Order Expansion Act. I noticed that [representative] is NOT a cosponsor of this resolution. If that’s true, I just wanted to pass along my support and hope that [he/she] votes against HR 768 with how it stands by Israel.” (you can check on govtrack.us)

“Hi, I would like to urge [representative] to stand with Palestine and to defund Israel. I hope [he/she] votes NO to house resolution 768 and YES to house resolution 786.”

“Hi, I noticed that [representative] is pushing for an act that will prevent all aid from reaching Gaza, and I’m horrified that this decision is even being introduced. I urge [representative] to reevaluate [his/her] priorities and recognize that Palestine is who we need to stand with, not Israel.”

“Hi, I’m calling abt the upcoming negotiations for a 5-day ceasefire in Gaza that will allow aid to pass through, and I strongly urge [representative] to support this decision.”

“I’d like to voice my concern for [representative’s] support for Israel and ask that [he/she] cosponsor Cori Bush’s Ceasefire Now Resolution and OPPOSE the $14.6 billion in weapons aid to Israel.”

Here’s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but I’d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angeles’s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrian’s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)

Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. It’s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. I’m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!

You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):

Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.

Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.

If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(

If you don’t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. It’s easy to do with any spare time you’re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!

If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israel’s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.

He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.

HAHA I absolutely understand the sentiment. I feel a bit contradictory since I want more people to appreciate SVSSS, but the at the same time I like small tight knit communities and I personally can’t handle large fandoms whatsoever. 😭

Although I do feel as though describing the SVSSS as pure is very funny for how lawless this fandom is. But behavior wise, it is definitely a very positive and supportive space!! I haven’t met anyone or seen anything unpleasant since I’ve entered the fandom. Albeit, it’s only been a few months since I’ve started interacting with the fandom, and over half a year since I first read SVSSS, so I have no clue what horror stories the SVSSS fandom has. (I honestly haven’t interacted with that many SVSSS fans tbh…. Even though I want to.)

In addition, funny enough, I feel as though the book almost acts as its own barrier of entry. SVSSS isn’t the type of book you can read once unless you’re good at reading against the grain and noticing all the nuances and subtext. I know the first time I read SVSSS, SVSSS disturbed and confused me so badly. I talked to a few other people who read SVSSS once, who said that LBH and SQQ’s relationship felt like Stockholm syndrome. But people who’ve read SVSSS several times will know, that is not the case, and that SQQ is an INSANELY UNRELIABLE narrator.

I honestly find it funny how effective Binghorse or all the other skin creatures is at filtering toxic fans.😂

There’s always a general reaction to the skin creatures: “Omg, cute!!”, “wtf, but I like it”, “wtf”. Or getting blocked, or death threats. (I haven’t received any…? I don’t think…? One message I received is definitely debatable since I can’t tell if it’s sarcastic or not….😭)

But regardless, I’ll definitely keep drawing Binghorse!!! It’s actually really enjoyable!

Harassing already overstressed, overworked employees is not okay. ESPECIALLY since it's been documented they've been working under discriminatory and predatory management, been through multiple crunches, and have an unidentified neo-Nazi on their team who management did not properly address and fire.

You can still be critical of a game and not harass the people who made it. Hell, you can absolutely hate a game and still be respectful to the people who made it. I'm sure the creators are far more likely to listen to the fans if we give constructive criticism than if we irresponsibly and cruelly send threats.

I know most people who see this haven't sent hate, and to those people: this post isn't about you. I massively respect you for maintaining your rationality and empathy. But for those who have sent hate or are thinking of doing so, please reconsider. Sending hate isn't going to change anything; it'll only break the fandom even further apart and stress out overworked employees. If you're going to be mad, be mad at the higher-ups at Square Enix for turning the franchise into a cash cow and at the upper management at Deck Nine for overworking and alienating their employees.
