Hi Pime!! Congrats on the release of the game it was ridiculously good and hit me right in the feels. I have a curiosity question that you can totally ignore if you're uncomfortable answering it or don't want to or anything. Given that you sold your game instead of like the "standard" contract that a lot of IF authors are able to have, did you make as much as you were expecting to for your first game? (I'm definitely not asking for specific numbers 😨 just like in general) I'm just curious how it all panned out because I feel like your game has been everywhere lately but that could just be my dashboard lol I'm really sorry if this is a rude thing to ask, I kinda have a hard time with social cues sometimes. And congratulations again!!🥳🥳
combining it with
Do you get updated with numbers? Do you know how many copies have sold already? I hope it’s been going well!!
and
Hi there! As an aspiring IF author, I was wondering if you'd be comfortable talking about the mechanical process, profit, and other technical aspects of having your work published. I understand that finances are often uncomfortable to talk about, but because of that a lot of us who haven't gone through the whole process have very little information about how plausible it is to even make some side income through writing. Thanks!
I’m quite pleased with The Passenger’s sales. Let’s just say I had a number in my head that was handsomely surpassed n_n
Irt the more mechanical process, I can talk about my experience as an argentinian writing for Hosted Games, which is a completely different experience from someone residing in the US or a country with a tax treaty with it. I had to sell the game and the rights to get it published—which I was aware of since almost the start—so my contract looks different from what you can read on COG’s page.
Now, how plausible it is to make some side income writing for HG: I guess it depends on how many books you can churn out in a relatively short amount of time. Some authors can finish a book per year (like @jamesshawgames) others will work on a single book for years (like me). There’s a HG author that has published like 15 titles and I guess they are getting something from the royalties (I wouldn’t know about that; I get no monthly royalties from TP).
I asked @sofia-d-asb to fill in the gaps I had about self-publishing and this is what she had to say:
“If you have a good book/game on your hands, self-publishing is far superior than going through CoG.
Patreon works well for some people, personally I don’t have the time/desire to make extra content.”
Steam asks for $100 to host your game, and I suspect the other storefronts might ask for similar prices. Steam pays you monthly, at the end of the following month. You get 70% of the sales and they pay you via bank transfer.
I talk about my contract here. I oc didn’t have to deal with storefronts because HG took care of that.
tl;dr be honest with what you want to get out of writing IFs. If you want to do it because there’s a story you want to share, then go ahead. If you’re doing it because you want lots of money, then maybe you’re better off finding a second job. The thing with IFs is sometimes you have an amazing game yet people don’t find it all that interesting, or they don’t like the premise so they don’t read it, or so many other things. And sometimes you’re lucky and/or write the sort of genre most players like and so your public grows and grows. It’s a coin flip away really, and I don’t know about you, but the only thing that kept me going, pushing to finish and publish TP was the excitement of my players, and my own love for the project.

#i told my friend i would go to a con with her in december and paid for my portion already but i kept getting super depressed thinking about#going to the con#and i mainly said yes because she has bad social anxiety and i wanted to support her#but i went to a con with one of my other friends a while ago and i am totally out of it#mentally and emotionally when it comes to anything fandom related. exept anime con but that's because i like seeing ppls costumes.#it's like i am a ghost of myself.#also i have expenses that keep piling up and i was like 'even if i don't get the whole refund i would rather have the money than go#on a trip just to be miserable'#so i kept putting it off but then i was like 'well i need to tell her at least a month before or else that is going to be really bad'#so i told her last night that things came up and i couldn't go (things is work/needing to save my money). like i know i already paid for it#but my partner is having a hard time making rent and i am having a hard time keeping a job so...#and i haven't told her any of this i just said 'things came up'#so she was naturally quite upset with me and said she “didn't give a shit if [i] lose money” but would pay me back for the con tickets#and the flight#like... she has always been brutally honest and (maybe?) autistic-coded so i tried not to let it get to me. i totally get being upset#and i am somewhat bothered with myself that i even said yes in the first place & then went back on it/waited so long to decide#but also i didn't expect to be paying my partner's half of the rent for a few months sooo.....#yeah#at least i will get half back and then i don't have to worry about asking for time off if i get a secondary job soon which i definitely nee#vent#delete later#tw financial issues

The Gemini twins are probably MUCH better fighters than they are in canon, huh.
Absolutely. These two kick ASS. They've been training in combat since they were eight, and that's absolutely been the main focus of their lives since then. They fight nearly every day. They have absolutely hideous amounts of experience under their belts and they are a force to be reckoned with.

Hello people! As you might have read from my last post, I'm making a video game for university with a group of other students. We don't have to just make a game, but also make a research on what people would like to get in a new game, and opinions in general.
I made a form with some questions, it's anonymous and the only personal information we ask are age group, gender and spoken languages. I don't know how many people I will reach with this post, but it's really important, so please forgive me for adding many tags.
The form is in Italian, but I tried to translate it in English and other languages with Chrome and Edge, and they work quite well. Firefox instead makes some funny mistakes, but it's still readable. Of course, as this is a university form, I must ask you to not be a troll, thank u!
For linkeduniverse people, yes this is the same form I posted int he server there's no need to answer again!
The game we have in mind is an action-adventure (like Zelda) with some platformer elements: some boss fights look like those from Kirby or Smash Bros, and some are side scrolling fast sequences, like Sonic. You'll learn more about the idea in the form!
Thanks so much to anyone who fills it!

mary shelley is really so extraordinary. "little england" & "little englandism" became an entire political discourse in the late 1800s (best as i can tell from c. 1870 onwards) & denoted those - often, not always, anti-imperial - thinkers who advocated for economic isolationism and wanted to limit the british empire's expansion, administration, and aggression, maintaining that england was best when contained to its own borders. the term is still in use - nowadays in brexit contexts - and was throughout the entire twentieth century.
it is also, in much the same sense in which it'd come to be used fifty years after the novel's publication, somehow in The Last Man - which shelley finished writing in 1826.
The plague was in London! Fools that we were not long ago to have foreseen this. We wept over the ruin of the boundless continents of the east, and the desolation of the western world; while we fancied that the little channel between our island and the rest of the earth was to preserve us alive among the dead. It were no mighty leap methinks from Calais to Dover. The eye easily discerns the sister land; they were united once; and the little path that runs between looks in a map but as a trodden footway through high grass. Yet this small interval was to save us: the sea was to rise a wall of adamant—without, disease and misery—within, a shelter from evil, a nook of the garden of paradise—a particle of celestial soil, which no evil could invade—truly we were wise in our generation, to imagine all these things! But we are awake now. The plague is in London; the air of England is tainted, and her sons and daughters strew the unwholesome earth. And now, the sea, late our defence, seems our prison bound; hemmed in by its gulphs, we shall die like the famished inhabitants of a besieged town. Other nations have a fellowship in death; but we, shut out from all neighbourhood, must bury our own dead, and little England become a wide, wide tomb.

Just me venting about printer stuff
I'm out here creating notes on articles and collecting ones I want to use for notes, all on my computer (my book collection is a whole other thing) and so I have long ass word doccuments (I can never spell that word correctly -_-) that I need to organize and tabs open with articles that let you print them and the need to figure out how to turn ones you can't into a doc you can print (easy with wikipedia, so text dense, but when it's something with a lot of pictures that creates it's own problem) and I just have so much stuff I plan to print out and put in my binder-grimoire (as opposed to my notebook ones. The binder is nice because I can stick all sorts of stuff in it and keep re-organizing it afterwards), but I have a problem. I bought a new, relatively cheap, printer because the one I had been using broke and I had limited access to it (It was not my own) and setting it up keeps feeling overwhelming, but I have so much stuff that I'm like
Tumblr media
^me going through articles online and trying to keep track of everything I need to print.
#emma posts#i'm rambling#why tf do they want me to use an app to set this up?#If I want to set up a phone app it should be secondary to setting a printer up with my FUCKING LAPTOP#and then I've heard people saying that they've had problems with this printer when trying to connect to something other than the main devic#but this seemed like the most affordable option and I tend to stick to one piece of tech until something gives and I'm forced#to get something new#which you might be surprised by. how long I can hold out I mean.#I've been using a 2015 laptop for eight years and only god can stop me#or it not connecting to any new stuff I need. I've made it work so far though#that's nothing compared to how stubborn I was about my previous phone though#I used that thing until the screen literally fell off. I'm not exagerating. the bottom half of the screen got disconnected from the actual#phone itself. I will probably have to replace this new one sooner though#and I WILL once again look for the closest phone to my old one being sold. You will pry the home button from my cold dead hands#even though I somehow broke my current one and have to use touch assist#I still haven't switched to wireless headphones even though I use a bluetooth speaker#Do I know how to use them? Yes. Do I like them? no.#I am also tired of my phone trying to connect to my neighbor's smart tv when I watch youtube. THAT'S NOT OURS!#It does this even when I don't have bluetooth on. Which is most of the time#I am dealing with period hormones rn though so that is probably making this worse#I am too tired to get really angry though. Just frustrated and sad#I wonder how much of my stubborness about my tech is the autism and how much is the money#the cat facing the wrong direction in this picture is key to the vibes

Never played a Fate game or watched any of the animes really. But I started playing Fate/Samurai Remnant bc I wanted to play a hack n slash kinda game & it got generally good reviews (unlike ffxvi, the other game I was looking at for this wish of mine, which ppl continuously said was pretty but kinda shallow writing-wise)
I've been enjoying it. I've already learned some things about 1600s Japan. It's pretty neat!
#speculation nation#im not entirely sure about the historical accuracy in its totality. but ive learned about like#idk the smaller cultural stuff i hadnt known before. which is whats really neat to me.#and then there's the flying talking book. Pretty Sure that one's just jrpg bullshit 😂😂😂#the main character is generally likeable. and the secondary main character is entertaining#AND they have an unconfirmed gender. perceived as female by a lot of npcs#but officially their bio lists gender as just a ?#which is cool! love my agender swordsman who is so much stronger than me and loves to eat#could do without them running off every 5 minutes to look at something new. but such is their charm i suppose#approaching the world with all the glee of someone who lived some unspecified number of years in the past#and is thus so delighted by things like Paper and Lanterns and Money.#when the flying book showed up their reaction wasnt 'why the hell is that book talking'#they were like 'what the fuck is a book?' which was so funny actually#and then them being like '....do All books talk?' and iori had to be like 'No They Do Not.'#oh also the game's audio is in Japanese. which i rly enjoy for the preservation of the original dialog#i definitely need the english translations but i know enough japanese to enhance my experience thru listening#just interesting things lost in translation. like iori starting to use 'ore' then switching to 'watashi'#when he was speaking to someone he respects & he wanted to be more polite.#0 indication of that in the translation. bc it's not smth that can really be translated when theres only 1 word for 'i'#idk stuff like that. there was the little sister character calling him 'onii-chan' then correcting to 'ani'#i think bc she wanted to not embarrass him in front of (who she thinks is) his girlfriend#the translation represented it by her calling him 'iori' then switching to 'brother'. which is more acknowledgement than the prior example#but still didnt capture what the moment actually was.#just a bunch of small things like that! it's rly cool. and this is why i love playing jrpgs in Japanese when i get the chance.#not all of them have it as an option. but the ones that Do... i am Living.#anyways yea having fun playing video games. etc etc. what else is new

Dear Deep Night Special Episode,
Wela/Khemtid is still uninteresting on all counts, and I could have done without the clip show for 60% of the ~new episode.
Seji continues to be the only one I care about, and for a hot second I thought he was getting a third boyfriend, but it was just an insurance ad that kept going through to the next scene. I am sure groups of 20somethings often discuss putting their life insurance in their partner's name after a month or two of dating. ;__;
But thanks for all the softcore horny scenes being compiled together, and kudos to whoever on the subtitles team decided to change "host" to "PR manager".
