YOU'RE ALL I EVER WANTED | Spencer Reid x Prentiss!Reader [bonus chapter]
Description: The one where you realise you like Spencer.
Length: 6.2k
Warnings: mention of when Penelope got shot, but other than that not much. Mentions of sex + body count though there is NO judgement OR SHAMING. Bugsy could be Bisexual/attracted to women if you choose to read it that way, but you don't have to!
authors note: this little bonus chapter is set the week before Emily 'dies' so right before the final second of Chapter Two. Or you can just read this if you'd like to see two morons dancing around their love for one another. Since Iâm uploading today, I realised you needed to read part of this for the next big chapter so that is going to take an extra day or so but it is coming! I hope this satiates the bugspence cravings!!
âYouâre the one, youâre all I ever wanted,
I think Iâll regret this,â
It was warm considering it was one of the last days of Winter, one of the warmest Virginia had in years.
Caseload had been ramped up with the amount of children out on the streets with their friends where any nefarious hands could simply snatch them, or young adults got drunk, or worse, in preparation for Spring Break, their inhibitions lowered to zero making them prime prey. And yet, on a random Saturday at the end of February, the sun peeked out from the dishwater grey clouds, the wind died down, and their phones stayed quiet with the promise of a real day off.Â
And how better to spend a day away from their office than to meet their co-workers in the park for a game of soccer.Â
âMorgan, quit marking me,â Bugsy yelled, dribbling the ball down the small field theyâd commandeered as a pitch, four water bottles stood upright on either end as goal points. But Derekâs laugh was menacing, and she heard his footsteps pounding behind her, advancing on her as if they were kids in a playground, and before long he had swooped in front of her, despite her hand waving out in his direction to shove him away.
Emily was about to call her out for contact, not that she expected her little sister to give a shit, but Derek was too fast for even her where she sat on the side lines with Penelope. The ball went careering away from her, Morganâs quick feet keeping it under much better control than sheâd been able to, even with her hot on his heels, and before long he was shooting to where Aaron stood as goalie, just about rolling it past Hotchâs muscled legs into their goal.Â
Derek whooped, Will jogged over from the other end of the pitch to fist bump his team mate as the younger woman huffed, her college jumper and shorts clinging to her sweaty body.Â
âSucks to suck, baby Prentiss,â Morgan jeered, shoving her shoulder lightheartedly when she glared at him, âGuess you owe me that drink, which I will be redeeming at the next convenience-âÂ
âItâs easy to win when youâre two hundred pounds of muscle and your opponent is a girl who hasnât done sport since high school,â She snapped, her expression grumpy as she fingered the hem of her fleecy top. Derek chuckled, Will returning to sit with JJ as Henry climbed over her legs wanting to play with her long strands of honey blonde hair. He shoulder bumped the girl, hoping to perk up her mood, but she shoved him back as hard as she could, not that it did much since sheâd said herself she was sort of out of shape compared to his rock hard abs.Â
âOh, come on now, Bug, donât be like that,â He said, unphased when she damn near threw her whole body against his, trying to even knock him in the slightest off his feet, her face screwed up in annoyance. âBugsy.â Derek tried again, only for her to ignore him and try even harder. He didnât so much as flinch, âBugsy, youâre being unreasonable,â
She huffed, drawing away from him and glancing at him with a scathing glare. âOkay, terminator, you won this time but I swear one day Iâm going to make you pay for taking advantage of such a fragile little woman like me,âÂ
Emily scoffed, handing her sister a water bottle, âDidnât you take down an unsub alone yesterday? I mean you didnât even have cuffs until Spencer showed up-â
âOh, whose side are you on?â Bugsy snarled, downing a gulp of water and walking back over to where Spencer and JJ were relaxing on a picnic blanket, the former laying on his back with a book spread open using only one of his spindle-like hands.Â
âGood game?â He mused, trying to hide his smirk when she groaned in response, throwing herself down on the grass beside him. She wrestled her sweater over her head which left her in a band tee, her chest still rising with panting breaths as she lay down to his right, glaring at the clear sky.Â
âRemind me to never play him in sport ever again. The man is a Spartan Warrior,â She huffed, barely glimpsing to where JJ chuckled at her defeated expression.Â
âDid you know that the Spartans were actually banned from the Olympics for some time for violating the peace treaty between Sparta and Athens? But one of their athletes entered a chariot race pretending to represent Thebes, a city above Athens in Boeotia, and only when he won did he announce his true identity,â Spencer asked, his nose still buried in his book like he was reciting the very same information off the page. Bugsyâs lips quirked in interest.Â
âThatâs pretty cool,â She murmured, head flicking over to him where he glanced back at her, finally ripping his attention away from his novel. She blinked at him, his âboy bandâ hair as so affectionately named by their unit chief, swooping over his forehead with a few soft, chocolate curls that she moved to fix almost immediately.Â
She missed the way his eyes rounded in puppy love as she did so, a camouflaged smile twitching at his lips, an onset reaction of the butterflies that swarmed his chest.Â
âI like your hair like this,â She said, even though sheâd told him a dozen times already his new hair was dashing, as sheâd put it, âIt makes your eyes look really pretty,âÂ
He cleared his throat, his cheeks heating up because he couldnât handle his reactions when she was so forward, âReally? I always thought they were the colour of dirt,âÂ
Her mouth dropped open, and she shuffled up onto her elbows so they were similar heights, âSpencer Reid, you take that back right now,âÂ
âWow, the government name. I must be in trouble,â He mused, gaze falling to the grass beneath them, dropping his book into his lap even though he felt her annoyance poking holes in his skull.
âThey are not the colour of dirt, Iâve never heard something so ridiculous,â She scoffed, nudging him with the back of her hand in a soft chide and he snickered, looking back up to where she was staring him straight in the muddy hues of his very plain hazel eyes. âTheyâre like, theyâre like-â She tried to come up with an answer, squinting in the soft sunlight that turned the brown shades into liquid honey running off a spoon, her face leaning towards his to catch a closer look at the exact pigment of them, âTheyâre like looking up at a forest on a Summerâs morning, you know? Like when you can see every single one of the leaves because of the light,âÂ
He nodded wordlessly, because no one had ever said something quite so poetic about any part of him before. He fought the urge to look away, wasnât sure he could even if he tried because for a second they were both in a trance, dissecting the otherâs gaze like they were imprinting their colour palettes to memory.Â
âBuggy!â Her head whipped away from him as the blonde headed child came running over to her as fast as his chubby little legs would carry him. He launched himself at her stomach, and her hands quickly caught him before he could wind her, his cheeks rosy behind his bumble bee pacifier. She giggled as he slid down her side, his knees staining with grass as he reached muddy hands out for her face.Â
âWoah, not so fast mister. Who knows where these grubby little paws have been,â She teased, and he laughed behind the plastic sucker, his bluebell eyes a near match of JJâs blinking over at her.Â
Spencer watched her and his godson with besotted eyes, imagining for a split second what she might be like as a mother, if she ever chose to be. He knew she would be soft and yet not lose one drop of the Bugsy playfulness he cherished, just instead parting everything that made her extraordinary onto a mini her.Â
He saw it, like a flicker of a dream, like deja vu, a girl with her hair, her skin, her smile; the one that was impish and guilty like she had a secret, giggling behind a ladybug dummy the way Henry was doing when she forced his dirty hands together to clap; âClap your hands if you smell like fairy farts- Henry!âÂ
The child laughed harder, so hard his pacifier dropped out his mouth with a little dribble, his milk teeth pearly with and tiny in the sun. His chest seized with giggles, his face turning pink as he panted to catch his breath, âYouâre so silly, Buggy,â Â
JJ swooped in to grab his dummy, giving his hands a quick once over with a baby wipe and packing the sucker back into his bag. Henryâs gaze quickly slid up his motherâs arm to where she lingered over his pack, and he was eager to make himself comfortable leaning against Bugsyâs stomach, legs stretching out onto the blankets, his shoes brushing against Spencerâs trouser leg.Â
âJuice, mama!â He shouted, his little voice sweet knowing just how to wrap everyone around his pinky finger, âJuice and Biâkits!â
âWhat do we say, Henry?â Will reminded gently, holding the Ben 10 satchel open while his partner rooted around the bottom of it with a loving smile.Â
âPlease, juice and biâkits,â The boy replied politely, his feet knocking together out of excitement when JJ produced two red pouches and animal shaped cookies. Stepping over where Spence lay sprawled out, watching Bugsy idly stroking over the back of his godsonâs white blonde curls, JJ handed the two of them a drink and snack each, Bugsyâs eyes flying up to the woman in interest.Â
âFor me?â She asked dumbly, wondering if she was to give the second helping to the boy once heâd finished his first or if it really was hers.
JJ shrugged, moving back over to sit beside Will where he wrapped a lazy arm around her waist, squeezing her gently, âI always pack extra for the other kids,âÂ
Bugâs face flattened into something unamused as Henry handed Spencer his juice pouch for him to push the straw in, âIâm twenty six, Iâm not a kid,â She grouched, ripping open the packet of biscuits and shoving a lion in her mouth, âGod, whoever invented these animal shaped pals is genius. Like, why does everything taste so much better when it looks like a monkey smiling up at me?âÂ
The three of them chuckled at her, Emily and Penelope starting up a new game of soccer with Hotch and Derek, David reffing from the sideline. Penelope was ofcourse with Morgan, looking a little pale where she stood in goal, as Emily ran at her in full force with the ball skipping between her feet.
Spence handed the drink back to the boy, picking his book back up as the two of them crunched on their goodies happily.Â
âStory time, Uncle Spencer,â Henry demanded, pointing to the copy of War and Peace in between bites of a zebra cookie.Â
And instead of telling his godson that he would almost certainly hate the complex, adult writing of Leo Tolstoy, Spencer smiled down at him, feeling Bugsyâs eyes roving over his face.
âYeah, storytime, Uncle Spencer,â She jeered, her elbow getting dirty where it dug into the grass as she rolled onto her side to watch him properly, âNever too early to teach the kids about French invasions,âÂ
Flicking her a smirk, he cleared his throat theatrically, and pretended to read from his book, âCharlotteâs Web by E. B. White,âÂ
âThatâs a real magic book you got there, Spence,â The woman snickered, and he smiled into the pages, not daring himself to look at the devilish look she had on her face.Â
âChapter One; Before Breakfast,â Spencer âreadâ clearly, his memory still clear as a bell when his mother had read it to him when he was five, ââWhereâs papa going with that axe?â said Fern to her mother as they were setting the table for breakfast,âÂ
Bugsy felt Henryâs head slump against her hip, the boy slurping on his juice pouch happily as she punctured a hole in her own carton to take a sip, the two of them listening intently to Spencer recounting the childrenâs book to a scary degree of accuracy.Â
His slender arms looked good with his sleeves rolled to his elbow, she thought offhandedly, his right elbow taking the brunt of his weight as he leaned on it, the other flicking through the Tolstoy novel as if it were the real thing, his long fingers splayed out on the back of the book to keep it open. His eyes kept darting up over the top of the page to see if they were both still listening, which they were, though Bugsy suspected Henry was starting to get tired as his head felt heavy against her skin.Â
Propping her head on her hand, her eyes scanned over the profile of his face. Sheâd always known he was attractive, ever since she opened her dorm room door at John Hopkins and saw him and Morgan waiting for her. Her stomach twisted thinking about how long ago that seemed, that she couldnât remember quite what her world had centred around when it had just been her at college; her mother and father were distant as ever, her sister was a stranger that had all but raised her, boys were just a passing face if she ever let them through her door. Sheâd had her books and maybe two friends, acquaintances would probably be the better term, and her coffee. And that seemed to have been enough, or at least it was enough that she couldnât outright complain about how lonely she felt. Â
And then she met Spencer. And that feeling had disapparated entirely.
Her heart swelled when she looked at him, recounting the beginning of chapter two by now, his forest hues glancing up at Henryâs sleepy, round eyes that watched him in interest. She thought for a moment that whoever his kid was going to be was going to be the luckiest boy in the world. She let herself imagine a boy Henryâs age already devouring books twice his reading age, one with wild, almond curls heâd let grow around his neck like JJ did with Henryâs. She imagined how he would sit him on his lap and let him read the books for himself, so that if he got stuck his dad would be right there to help him behind a proud smile. Spencer; a father. She realised how out of field the thought was before she shook it out of her head, though it had planted itself right in her hypothalamus the second sheâd seen the vision of it.Â
A small smile twitched at her lips, a warmth in the pit of her stomach flickering as she sipped the juice, giggling when Spencer changed his tone slightly so Henry knew someone new was speaking, seemingly enjoying the book almost as much as his audience was. His eyes snapped to her when he heard her, a devious little smile creeping up his lips like they shared the same thought. She wished she could do this every day, lay on picnic blankets and listen to him read, his voice was heavenly, and she thought she might never get tired of hearing him tell her things.Â
Every part of her was consumed when she thought of him like this. It had happened once or twice, like when sheâd driven him home from the doctors after theyâd cleared his MRIâs, when sheâd held his head in her lap on his couch and stroked his scalp, a cold compress over his eyes because his head writhed with a pain he couldnât squash out. When sheâd heard his soft snores as he finally dropped off to sleep and she allowed herself to look at his resting face, perhaps even more angelic than usual, a small indent right between his brows where his expression had been scrunched in discomfort for weeks, one she smoothed over with the soft pad of her thumb. Sheâd felt something then, like her whole body was full to the brim of him, her chest spasming with a feeling like she was coming down with a cold but one that made her feel good, but sheâd brushed it off as seeing him vulnerable and soft compared to the quick as a whip FBI agent she was used to these days. Sheâd do just about anything for him, anything to make him feel better, anything to just make him happy.
Or when theyâd eat breakfast together at his desk, her chair rolled up beside his as they sat together, taking it in turns to do crossword puzzles together because they realised they got competitive when they were allowed to answer all of them at the same time, and Bugsy did not like losing. There had been one morning when theyâd descended into madness because they were both trying to write the answers as fast as possible, their hands smashing together over the boxes, her hand shoving his lithe body away as he had called her a cheater through red cheeked laughter. Rossi had confiscated the paper when things had gotten too physical and sheâd pulled the lever beneath his chair, lowering his seat quick enough he nearly slipped right out. His coffee spilled all over his desk as his arm flew out to grab his desk, and the sight alone made her laugh so hard she almost peed. Heâd pretended to be annoyed at her for all of two minutes as they cleaned up the mess together, but he too had found himself laughing hard enough he was almost in tears because she could barely get two words out without creasing over and holding her stomach in aching barks of noise, the two of them leaning against one another for support. She thought then, if she had breakfast with him every day, whether it be with quizzes or coffee or even a plain bowl of oatmeal, sheâd wake up every day happy.Â
And she thought it then, her heart swelling fat enough to burst as he looked up at her over the top of the leather binding again. Even in the split second he did so her skin had turned to gooseflesh, like heâd grabbed her at her soul and squeezed her whole being affectionately. And it was like she remembered every time heâd made her feel like that, times she thought of it as the fact a girl who received little to no attention growing up was of course going to revel under the gaze of an attractive man with a heart sweeter than cotton candy, it was just psychology. One big Freudian-slip of nonsense. At least that was what she shoved it off as.Â
But looking at him, his hands big enough to grab her face whole, his body long and lithe as he spread out on the blanket, his hair falling so delicately, his tone soft and pandering to the little boy who was dropping off to sleep against her stomach. His whole essence was so Spencer it made her feel at home, like this was what she was created to do, feeling so fulfilled sat with him sipping on a juice pouch as he read to her she could die tomorrow and feel accomplished for only twenty six years.Â
She knew in her gut that wasnât what friends felt for each other; the thought creeping up her spine and over her shoulder like a virus that seized her brain as its own, her expression unwavering as she watched him with adoring eyes.Â
She knew it was wrong, but with him she felt worth something. She felt complete. Like she had everything she ever needed, everything sheâd ever wanted on the nights loneliness had snuck in and sheâd felt like no one would ever understand how the muddied water of her mind worked.Â
But he did. He always had.Â
And it was like she heard a screech in a track record as it came to a stop, her head working overtime with the thought of it.Â
She bit her lip in guilt, as he continued reading, hoping she wouldnât ever ruin whatever it was that sheâd felt, because she might not ever be able to forgive herself if she did.Â
â
âItâs over one and below a hundred, and thatâs all youâre getting,â Bugsy said with a teasing smile, her fingers resting on the rim of a very sweet Cosmo, as Penelope and Derek sat opposite them, Spencer to her right with a beer on one of the few times sheâd ever seen him drink. But it had been a good day, and what would be the harm in topping off the day with a cold beverage, âBesides, it doesnât matter anyway, itâs not like they meant much,âÂ
âWe know it doesnât matter, baby Prentiss, weâre just being nosey,â Derek chimed, his fingers wrapped around his own bottle of beer, courtesy of Bugsy which she had paid for with a grumble, a tipsy glint in his dark eyes.Â
It was just the four of them this evening. Will and JJ had taken a sleeping Henry home so they could spend some rare time together seeing as their son was entirely knocked out. Hotch had taken Emily home after David had given her a red card for trying to tackle both Aaron and Derek multiple times during their game, because apparently competitiveness ran in the family. He had tried to gently remind her Aaron was also on her team, but had received a glare that would make any agent cower, and Hotch had suggested maybe it would be best if they got her home rather than fill her with alcohol.Â
Rossi had excused himself home after hearing the colourful things the oldest Prentiss woman called him in Italian, likely contemplating if she meant any of the threats she was making.Â
âAny guy would be lucky to make it to your magic number, honey bee,â Penelope added, her pastel painted lipstick making a cute rim on the straw to her own Margarita, âOr girl! Any girl would be too,â
Bugsy shied away at that, blanking for perhaps the first time because the whole topic of her romantic endeavours was suddenly embarrassing when Spencer was sat right beside her. She had spoken to them before about her college days, and had never once made an effort to hide the fact she knew she had a charm about her that meant she usually could take someone home if she wanted them.Â
So why was it suddenly so difficult to admit in front of Spencer? She knew why, she knew why every single one of them suddenly felt miniscule in the grand scheme of things because they hadnât meant much to her, not when he was sitting boring holes into the side of her head with an unusually tight expression.Â
âWhat does it matter if there were girls, none of them really meant much,â She brushed them off, her face heating up when she finally looked at Spencer, his long fingers picking at the label on his beer with a tight lipped smile.
âWeâre just teasing, Bug, thereâs nothing wrong with any number you could give us. Besides, I guarantee mine is higher than yours,â Derek reassured, squeezing her wrist gently, his eyes sliding to where Spencer seemed to be trying to avoid all eye contact like he wanted the seat to swallow him whole, âSame with you, Kid, thereâs no judgement at this table, weâre all human,âÂ
âI bet you were a real ladies man by that third doctorate,â Bugsy teased, nudging his shoulder with her own because she hated when he went quiet.Â
He looked at her like he was expecting her to be cruel, except she didnât look it, not one bit, instead she seemed a little skittish, no doubt from having the spotlight on her. âWhat makes you say that?âÂ
She bristled, âI mean, come on, Spence, youâre very good looking, youâre the smartest person I know, youâre funny and thereâs like not a single bad bone in your entire body,â She said, becoming increasingly aware of the weight of her words the more she spoke. But it was like the cocktail had loosened her lips, had made it seem entirely normal to essentially tell him how lucky a girl would be to date him, how she had thought about all the reasons she would find him a worthy sexual partner. She watched him blush, granting her a flustered smile, and she looked to Penelope desperately for help, âPen, would you tell him?â
âShe has a point, Reid. You are the full package,â Penelope conceded, her smile illuminating the whole bar as she reached over to hold both their hands in hers, âItâs a shame youâre both strongly planted in the friend zone otherwise the four of us could have really been something beautiful,âÂ
They all chuckled, Bugsy shaking her head and leaning against Spencerâs side when he seemed to ease up, just to remind him she had meant no harm by what she said. In fact, sheâd meant entirely the opposite. Â
She felt his hand lean under the table to squeeze her knee, because he knew what she was thinking, and she felt herself relax at the feel of his touch.Â
âAlright, hereâs a question; winner gets a free shot on the next round. What was your worst date?â Morgan poked, noticing how the two youngest agents seemed to scooch towards one another almost as if they hadnât realised, as if they were working off their own orbit, until they were pressed right up against one another, their elbows brushing against one another, âDoesnât have to be sexual, could just be bad table manners,âÂ
âI havenât really been on a date before,â Spencer tried to weasel his way out of the question, Bugsyâs head whipping to him in surprise, âThere was that one time I met that girl Austin for coffee, but that was pretty great,â
She bit her cheek in annoyance. Sheâd forgotten about Austin, the bartender that sheâd told Spencer to go after, because she was so sure that a good looking doctor like him deserved someone kind and attractive like Austin had been. She remembered how sheâd seen her ocean blue eyes roving over her friend, how at the time it hadnât meant much to her, because she couldnât really blame her for thinking he was hot, how now it stirred something in her tummy that she feared felt like jealousy.Â
She dared herself to stop the bombarding thoughts of what âpretty greatâ entailed exactly, and busied her face by looking to Morgan for his turn.Â
âMy man,â Derek said with a wicked grin on his face, watching Spencer cower away from the attention though there was something guiltily proud in the smirk that grew on his face that said Spencer was somewhat pleased with his answer. In the scheme of things, heâd gotten lucky, pun intended. The only woman to ever say yes to a date with him had been sweet, even if heâd quickly made it clear he wasnât looking for anything more with her, and even then sheâd been understanding.Â
âYour turn, Morgan,â Bugsy reminded, trying to be as cool as possible despite the fact her stomach felt flipped upside down at the sound of a woman she hadnât thought about in two whole years. She didnât know what had gotten her so territorial in a matter of seconds, but she hated every moment of it.Â
âWell, Iâm sure youâll be pleased to know ladies, that someone has in fact put Derek Morgan in his place before,â Derek said, with a clap of his hands, and Bugsy and Penelope shared an amused eye roll.Â
âWho knows how big your ego might be if this goddess among women hadnât acted when she did,â Bugsy drawled, Penelope giggling into her lime wedge as Derek laid a hand on his chest in faux hurt.Â
âIâm telling you, Iâm a changed man. I tasted my own medicine, Sugar, and it was bitter,â He said melodramatically, and even Spencer shook his head with a laugh, because Derek was a diva when heâd had a few to drink. âWe go out to a lovely restaurant, I pay ofcourse, being the gentleman I am, and then we decide to go for some drinks after to round the evening off,â
âAny girl's dream come true,â Penelope jumped in, giggling when Derek wrapped an arm around her shoulder, like they were on a date themselves.Â
âThat was exactly my thoughts, babygirl.â Derek flirted, taking a swig of his beer, âAnyway, I maybe have a little too much of the good stuff, nothing particularly worrying. Weâre laughing, weâre vibing, and then we go back to my place,âÂ
âHere we go, the real good stuff,â Bugsy chimed in, nudging Spencer with her elbow as the two of them snickered like tweedle dum and tweedle dee. âFifty Shades of Morgan,â
âPipe down, lover girl,â Derek barked through laughter, Penelope barely making it through a sip of her own drink without smiling, âSo as I was saying, Iâm feeling a little worse for wear, sheâs a little drunk too, so we move past it, and then we get to my room,â
âBow chick a wow wow,â Bugsy sang teasingly, to which Spencer chuckled and taking a sip of his own drink.Â
âWell, you would think, honey bee, since I am known to the women for my experiences in bed, some may call electric,â Derek slurred, holding her hand gently over the table to which she laughed even harder.Â
âHuh, I must have missed that email,â She teased back, taking a long final sip of the dregs of her drink.Â
âYou wound me,â He replied, shaking his head, and turning to look at Penelope seriously, like he was sat in a confession booth, âSo anyway, weâre in my room, about to get jiggy with it, only when I take my boxers off I find my soldier is sort of-â He paused, swallowing and looking at Spencerâs red face where he was trying desperately not to break, âYou know. Unable to stand to attention,âÂ
Bugsy spat her drink across the table, the action alone making Penelope laugh so hard tears sprang to her eyes, the younger girl coughing as she choked on her drink, and Spencer patted her on the back until she reclaimed some composure.Â
âOh, god,â She gasped, her hand thumping her chest as she tried desperately to get a hold of herself in between the loud cries of glee and winding herself, âDerek-â
âHey, laugh it up, Bug, it worked out alright in the end. Our second date really was electric,â He replied with a smug smile, as the girl finally caught a breath, her lash line watering with tears as she grabbed for some napkins on the table to clear up her mess.Â
âIf you say so,â She said, her voice croaking as Spencer offered her a sip of his drink to wash her throat out. She took a small mouthful of beer, handing the bottle back to him with a grateful smile, and she tried no to think about the fact that germ wise, they had essentially just kissed.Â
âYour turn,â Spencer said, something amused in his eyes as she looked at him somewhat betrayed, âWhatâs been your worst date?âÂ
She sighed, wiping beneath her eyes with her sleeve, âIf you must know, and because I really do want that shot,â She started, clearing her throat one final time, âI was seeing this guy in New York over Spring break, Sean something,âÂ
âSean something?â Derek asked, âYou didnât know his last name?âÂ
She shrugged, fighting the urge to crawl into a small ball of embarrassment because surely what Morgan said had set the bar for judgement high, âWe didnât exactly do much talking when we saw each other,âÂ
Spencer hid his frustration in a fake smile, though one look at his furrowed brow would have given him away instantly. Luckily, they had their eyes on her long enough they didnât catch a glimpse of his expression. It wasnât that he would ever think less of her for being with someone else, who wouldnât want her, but hearing about it made his inside boil with jealousy he didnât even know he would have ever felt.Â
âAnyway. I felt like a change of scenery and my mother was bothering me for a lunch date since she was in New York for the month, so I took him and two of his friends out to Italy for a long weekend,â She went on, ripping up a napkin for something to do while she spoke, and she felt Penelope staring at her agog.Â
âYou took a casual fling to Italy for a change of scenery?â The bubbly woman asked, her mouth dropped in shock, âCan I sleep with you?âÂ
Derek laughed, and Spencer went bright red when he jumped to ask the same question though he knew it was entirely coarse. Maybe it was the beer loosening his tongue, or maybe it was the fact he wondered what the two of them sitting in a sunny vineyard like a rich old couple would look like, he wasnât sure.Â
âPlay your cards right, Princess,â Bugsy teased, clearing her throat to continue, âAnyway. Weâre there for two days and the final evening Sean and I get into a bit of a disagreement over something dumb; I think him and his friends were being too loud and we were getting complaints. Anyway, we kiss and make up for the evening, we go out to a club. We go back to the hotel, get jiggy with it as you put it, and when I woke up the next day, the bastard had taken the bag with all our boarding passes and came back to America with his friends without even waking me up.â
Their mouths fell open, Spencerâs brows shooting into his hairline in worry, âThat sounds awful, Bug,â
She shrugged again, messing with the pile of ripped up paper sheâd created, âItâs nothing. I spoke the language so I got by okay, and luckily I kept all my cash in my purse so I hitched a ride to the airport and got on the next plane, except the only available one landed me in California so I had to wait for a transfer over to Baltimore. By the time I got back, his roommate said he was with some other girl,â
âWhat an asshole,â Derek said, shaking his head as he said so, but Bugsy raised her shoulders again.Â
âI really know how to pick them,â She said, swirling her lime piece around the bottom of her glass, âAnyway, the hotel staff felt bad for me and gave me a free bottle of Pinot Noir on them so it didnât work out all bad,âÂ
Sensing it was somewhat of a sticky subject, Penelope jumped in with her usual wit, âAs much as I would love to give you the shot, buttercup, this gal took a bullet on her last bad date so I will be collecting that prize if itâs all the same to you,â She said, her bubbly attitude quickly throwing metaphorical glitter over the subject, collecting Bugsy's empty glass and her own together as her and Morgan moved to shuffle out of the table for another round.Â
Bugsyâs eyes widened, âWhat?â She stopped, and she looked at Spencer to see if they were playing some sort of joke on her only to see him unsurprised, âWhat!?âÂ
âIâll tell you about it some other time, sweet cheeks. Right now I have a tequila, salt and lime with my name written all over it,â Penelope chirped, waltzing up to the bar with her muscle two paces behind her as he drew out his wallet to put down for the next round of drinks.Â
âWell, I suddenly feel like an asshole for complaining about being left in a nice hotel alone,â Bugsy said, her head resting on her hand as she looked over at Spencer who ran his finger over the emerald green bottle.Â
He snorted, âTell me about it, I said that my last date went wonderfully,âÂ
They met eyes in the dark lowlights of the bar and shared an amused grin, like they knew it was cynical for them to laugh except they really did feel like morons for complaining about how bad they had it when Penelope had all but joked about her situation.Â
âI am sorry that happened to you, though,â Spencer said, his hand creeping over the leather seat to where hers sat on her thigh, âThat must have been really scary. Why didnât you call Emily?âÂ
Bugsyâs face tensed, âWe werenât really speaking then, and I knew if I told her or my mother Iâd get the same lecture about being irresponsible and careless. I think I thought Iâd rather do it alone,âÂ
Spencer pouted, braving enough to move his hand up to take hers in his own. Maybe it was the second bottle of low percent beer, or maybe it was because sheâd flickered with something genuinely saddened when sheâd said it, and Spencer thought that in every instance of her story sheâd had little to no one to turn to for help.
She had been alone, and the thought of it crushed him.Â
He grabbed her hand, her head snapping to him and praying she didnât find pity there because she hated that. Except she just saw him, those mossy eyes looking rounder and more lovely than ever when she regarded him.Â
âYou donât have to feel alone ever again, you know that right?â He asked earnestly, giving her fingers a little squeeze, and she felt her tummy do that stupid turn all over again. It was like she had an upset stomach except that was a complete antonym of what it was, like her stomach was so unbelievably overjoyed that she could barely even hold it together without wanting to ask him what it was he had done to suddenly turn her into some sort of feral creature for every little movement he made.Â
Except there wasnât just one thing, it was everything about him. Everything.Â
She smiled at him, more bashful than she had ever felt for him, and against her own instincts she slipped her fingers in between his own so they had their every digit laced together, and it was suddenly so much bigger than two friends chatting in a bar.Â
She knew it then, felt it realer than ever, like a stop sign slapping her clean across the face and shattering every bone in her skull.Â
She just hoped she wouldnât regret it.Â

Buck flipped through the LAFD charity calendar with a playful scowl, muttering under his breath, âI mean, reallyâI'm in great shape. How did they not pick me?â He thumbed past January, February, March, eyeing each firefighterâs photo with a mix of admiration and competitive envy. Every shot was a little different, each firefighter posed in some dramatic scene of heroism or strength. But none of them, Buck thought, would have been quite as striking as him.
"They missed out on me hauling hoses up a five-story building,â he grumbled. âI couldâve rocked July, at least."
He was halfway through his pretend indignation when he reached September and froze, the complaint dying on his lips.
There, against a smoky, fog-draped backdrop, was a man who looked like heâd just walked out of a mission. He wore only an LAFD jacket, unzipped and open, revealing a chest and abs carved from years of hard training. His arms were crossed over his chest, showcasing the kind of muscles youâd expect from a man whoâd done his time as a pilot and then some. In the background, the shadowy outline of a helicopter loomed, blades faintly visible through the fog, adding a rugged, military edge to the scene.
But it was the manâs face that held Buck captive: a sharp jawline, a cleft in his chin, blue eyes that seemed to pierce right through the photo. He was⌠older, maybe, but in a way that just added to his commanding presence. Buck felt his heart pounding, a strange mix of awe and something he couldnât quite put a name to.
âWho⌠who is this guy?â he mumbled to himself, unable to tear his gaze away.
âTommy Kinard,â a voice piped up, making him jump. Buck turned to see a fellow firefighter grinning. âTransferred out of 118 not too long ago. Military guy, flies for Station 217 now, you replaced him actually.â
âOh.â Buck managed to nod, his voice quieter than usual. âHeâs, uh⌠yeah. Impressive.â
As he handed the calendar back, his mind was still reeling. Tommy Kinard. Buck didnât know what heâd expected, but suddenly, he couldnât shake the urge to see this guy in person.

College Rafe AU where he plays football and they win the big game. because we all saw THE GIF from âThe other Zoeyâ and needed a football au
Was I listening to The Alchemy when I wrote this? Absolutely. My only football knowledge comes from watching Taylor at the games and the smallest from TV shows...so don't take it too seriously. I hope you enjoy <3

â
The February wind blew as you sat in the stands and watched the team finish practice. You usually were tutoring at this hour, but the person canceled at the last minute, leaving you with an hour to spare before your work shift. You hated when people made you waste your time. Going to your dorm would be pointless since your job was on campus, so you went on the football field to surprise Rafe. Â
He ran across the field with the football, sweat dampening the collar of his gray tee shirt. You couldnât help but worry about him getting cold. This Friday was the big championship game and, as the star player, Rafe couldnât afford to get sick. No offense to the other players, but the team would lose without him.
Coach called the boys over and you watched Rafe taking off his helmet and wiping his face with the bottom of his shirt, flashing his abs. The few girls sitting lower in the stands were wetting their panties at the sight, dreaming impossible things. These abs were only yours to touch.Â
Minutes passed, and then Coach blew his final whistle, calling the end of practice. You went down the stands and called out Rafeâs name, tearing his attention from his teammateâs. When his eyes found you, he changed direction and told his teammate heâd catch up with them later.Â
ââShouldnât you be tutoring that swim team jerk?ââÂ
You tried to not look too annoyed as you explained the situation. ââHe canceled on me two minutes before the lesson...ââÂ
Rafe closed the last steps to you and pulled you in a loose hug, knowing you didnât like it when he was hugging you with his sweaty body. You didnât mind the sweat, it was the smell that lingered on your clothes that you didnât like. One time, your co-worker asked why you smelled like a football locker room after a game⌠Youâve never been more embarrassed.
ââI hope youâre charging him for the lesson. He made you waste your time waiting for him.ââÂ
You wished you could do that, but thatâs not how it worked.Â
ââHow was practice?ââ you asked, changing the subject. ââYou ready for Friday?ââÂ
ââCoach doubled our pre-practice run because Robbe showed up hungover.ââ Rafe groaned, his legs sore from the extra running.Â
You drew your eyebrows together. ââItâs only WednesdayâŚââÂ
ââExactly. Itâs the second time he shows up hungover this month. He better clean his act up before Friday or else Coach is gonna bench him. Just because his father gives big money to the school doesnât mean he can do shit like that.ââÂ
ââFucking entitled rich kids.ââ
You scoffed. ââSure, Mr. My-Father-Is-Ward-Cameron-And-Owns-An-Estate-Company.ââÂ
Rafe rolled his eyes. ââAlright, alright.ââ A brisk of wind blew and he scrunched his nose, his cheeks red from the weather. You reached to touch it, and he leaned into the warmth of your palm. ââMmh, that feels nice. Do you want to get pizza and watch a movies?ââÂ
ââTempting offer, but I have to get going soon. I have work in twenty minutes.ââÂ
You pouted and Rafe pulled you closer.Â
ââFuck work, stay with me.ââÂ
A laugh left your lips. ââI canât do that. Iâll get fired.ââÂ
On Friday, you met Rafeâs family in the stands. You had met Ward, Rose and Wheezie before, but never Sarah. She was graduating high school this year and hadnât been able to make it to any of Rafeâs games. It was nice to finally meet her.Â
ââAh, so youâre the lucky charm,ââ Sarah said, flashing you a smile. ââIâve heard the team is on a winning streak since you and Rafe got together.ââÂ
The lucky charm was a joke Rafeâs teammates made after noticing the team had been winning every time you attended. You thought it was only running around school, but apparently Sarah had heard about it.Â
The game was close to begin â seven minutes left before kickoff. From high up in the stands, you watched Rafe bouncing on his feet on the sideline, the stress of the game turned into bursts of energy. Damn, did his ass look good in his tight pants. Beside him, Topper was talking to the coach and pointing at something on the field. Perhaps a tactic idea?
You jumped up when the scoreboard came to light and cheered loudly as both teams were welcomed on the field. The ambiance was unlike any of his past games. Players took their positions, adrenaline coursing through their veins and waiting for the referee to blow the whistle.Â
As the game unfolded, your focus was on Rafe. He was running across the field, trying to catch the pass Topper made. He caught it, his fingers closing around it securely, but a beefy guy from the other team came from behind, driving him to the ground with a thunderous tackle.Â
You winced at the sight. You hated the contact part of football.Â
Soon enough, the second period was ending and the half-time began, the score 17-14 in favor of Rafe's team. Sarah and Rose went to the bathroom while Ward went to get drinks and a snack for Wheezie.Â
ââDo you think theyâre going to win?ââ she asked, scooting closer to you.Â
She had taken a quick liking to you, the girl who had taken her big brotherâs heart.Â
You took a sip of your drink. ââI donât know. I hope so. Rafe worked hard this season.ââ Â
Wheezie nodded. ââRafe knows how to play the game and he knows how to win. Iâm confident weâll win this one.ââÂ
The third period had barely started when Rafe crossed the field, carrying the ball. He was running so fast and ducking the other players without losing his speed. You held your breath, sitting on the edge of your seat. As expected, someone from the opposing team went to intercept him, but Kelce saw him coming and tackled him, allowing Rafe to score another touchdown.Â
ââTouchdown, Rafe Cameron!ââ The speakers echoed around the field, causing most of the spectators to stand and yell simultaneously.Â
You jumped in excitement, a proud smile lighting up your face. ââYes, baby!ââÂ
Later in the game, with only thirteen seconds left on the board in the fourth period, the teams were tied.Â
A score of 21-21 flashed on the scoreboard. There wasn't much time left, but youâve seen Rafe score in eight seconds. Â
ââCome on, Rafe, you can do it,ââ you said, although he couldnât hear you.Â
Beside you, Sarah was holding Wheezieâs hand, stressed.Â
The referee blew his whistle, signaling the resumption of the game. The crowd erupted into a frenzy of cheers and applause as Rafe dashed across the field, evading defenders with lightning speed. With just three seconds left on the clock, he made a spectacular leap, soaring over the goal line to score the winning touchdown.
The crowd in the stands went wild. Rafe's teammates rushed towards him in a jubilant huddle, their cheers drowning out the roar of the crowd. In their excitement, they lifted him high above their heads, his helmet coming off in the process.
Wheezie jumped, loudly cheering for her brother. ââI told you he would win!ââÂ
You took your jacket and headed down the stairs, Rafeâs family following behind as the game reporter declared the grand champions, his voice booming over the stadium speakers.Â
A lot of people had the same idea, which caused the large field to get crowded quickly. It was difficult to see over the taller heads, but your lips curled into a grin when you saw him standing at the center of it all, with his coach and teammates around him, looking both exhausted and exhilarated. His hair was tousled, his face flushed from the exertion of the game, but there was a radiant smile on his lips as he basked in the glory of victory.
You called out his name and his eyes searched around the field, high on adrenaline. Once he saw you, he broke away from the ecstatic mob of his teammates and sprinted towards you, his eyes shining with excitement. Without a moment's hesitation, Rafe enveloped you in a tight embrace, lifting you off your feet. You wrapped your arms around his neck, giggling and ignoring the sweat that was transferring to your clothes.Â
ââYou did it! It was unbelievable,ââ you said, your voice filled with emotions. ââYouâre the best, baby. The absolute best.ââ

Hi there! Iâd like start with a thank you for taking the time and effort to help people who are interested in all things Sumerian learn! :D Iâm not sure if this has been asked before, but what were the names given for the months of the year by the Sumerians? Iâm curious as to how a lyric from a song like "Do you remember the 21st night of September" would translate into Sumerian
Hello, and thanks for the kind words!
The Sumerians used a system of twelve or thirteen lunisolar months, similar to other lunisolar calendars like the Hebrew calendar. (In fact, many Hebrew-calendar months derive their names from the Babylonian calendar, a later standardization of the Sumerian calendar months.) In most periods, the months started with the first visible crescent moon (right after the new moon) closest to the spring equinox; months could be anywhere from 28 to 30 days long, depending on when the next new crescent moon was sighted. The months would be:
Barazagngar đđđ đť (~March-April) Ezemgusisu đđĄđđđ˘ (~April-May) Sigushubbangar đđđˇđđđđť (~May-June) Shunumun đđđ° (~June-July) Neizingar đđđđť (~July-August) KinInanna đđĽđđš (~August-September) Duku đđŻđŹ (~September-October) Apindua đđđłđđ (~October-November) Gan'gane đđśđśđđş (~November-December) Abe đđđđş (~December-January) Ziza đđŠđ (~January-February) Shekinku đđşđĽđť (~February-March) Dirishekinku đđđđşđĽđť was the intercalary month, only included in some years, to keep the lunar months in line with the annual solar cycle
Note that each month had any of a wide variety of variant spellings, and the system above was pretty unstandardized until the later Babylonian era. The initial đ sign is the determiner for months and is unpronounced.
I'm having some trouble finding a consistent pattern for "on the #th day of [month name]", but the general way to say "on the #th day of the month" is ituda ud #(-kam), literally "in the month its #th day". Assuming we can slot in a month name, say Duku (the most likely month for late September to fall in), alongside ngi "night" and nishdish (my best guess for "21", whose pronunciation we don't know), then Dukua ngi nishdishakam would be "The 21st night of Duku".
Using one of the words for "remember", pad, you could say Zae Dukua ngi nishdishakam ibpaden? "Are you remembering [what happened] on the 21st night of Duku?" Though note that this would almost never correspond to our own September 21, for which you'd have to calculate the exact date for each year; I think for 2024 it'd be the 18th of Duku based on my quick counting, but it could fall anywhere from the end of KinInanna to the start of Apindua. I hope that's helpful!

Will Oklahoma Call Animal Control on Students?
This article was originally posted to the Otherkin News blog on Dreamwidth.
Content warnings: Rated G. Sexism against transgender people. Adults who cause danger or distress for children by outing them as transgender or showing them animal bloodsports.
Summary: In 2023, Republicans in the US began to propose laws (bills) that would be against furries or people who identify as animals. They continue to do so in 2024. The first two such bills of this year are Oklahoma House Bill 3084 (OK HB 3084) and Mississippi House Bill 176 (MS HB 176). Read on for information about these bills from this and last year, the urban legend that inspired them, what may happen next, and what you can do. This five page article (plus references) is a twelve minute read.
Humphreyâs anti-furry bill in Oklahoma
Republican Representative Justin Humphrey (he/him) specializes in writing bills that are intentionally bizarre so they will attract attention, and then cleaning them up later so that they will pass into law. On December 6, he wrote OK HB 3084, as its only sponsor. He prefiled it on January 17. It was introduced for its first reading on February 5. Here is the bill on Oklahomaâs official site, and on the third-party site Legiscan. It proposes a new law, which would read in full:Â
âStudents who purport to be an imaginary animal or animal species, or who engage in anthropomorphic behavior commonly referred to as furries at school shall not be allowed to participate in school curriculum or activities. The parent or guardian of a student in violation of this section shall pick the student up from the school, or animal control services shall be contacted to remove the student.â
In Humphreyâs interview with Rolling Stone about this, he specifically said that he wrote the furry bill in response to having heard about students using litter boxes in school. The Stone pointed out that thatâs an urban legend that never happened at all, but he thinks itâs happened sometimes, if not widespread. He said that âfurryâ is the common name for a âmental illnessâ and âsexual habit,â and that thereâs an âactual psychological termâ for it, which he didnât say because he found it âvery, very difficult to pronounceâ (Ehrlich, 2024).Â
He probably was referring to âanthropomorphic behavior,â which he wrote in his bill text. That isnât a psychological term or a mental illness, itâs about cartoon characters. The furry fandom uses âanthropomorphic animalsâ as a synonym for furries, fictional talking animal characters. âAnthropomorphicâ often gets misused to mean âanimal-like,â but its literal meaning is âhuman-like.â Humphreyâs wording would suffice to expel all students from a school: kids who act like animals and kids who act like humans. He likely based his bill on last yearâs dead Oklahoma Senate Bill 943, which he didnât write, but which also used the word.
Humphreyâs bill is the first that says to call animal control on furries. Would they refuse to pick up a student, or could this really cause students to be arrested and detained? Animal control is dictated by the local government (Bradshaw and Vankavage). Sometimes it may be outsourced to contractors who wouldnât respond to this bizarre request, but in many cases itâs managed by local law enforcement. For example, one Oklahoman city ordinance says that all its animal control officers who are not already part of law enforcement âpossess all authority of a police officer of the city for enforcing these animal regulationsâ (Vinita city code 2005 5-3-19). Humphrey explained that this part is a joke that he doesnât intend to stick to, though, saying,Â
âif you want to treat these people as actual animals, you call animal control. Iâll be happy to rewrite the language [to replace âanimal controlâ with mental health professionals]. But right now, I put that in there to make the point. A sarcastic pointâ (Erhlich, 2024).Â
(Bracketed text in original.) Introducing a bill with an absurd part and then deleting or altering it to let it pass is a tactic that we see in one of last yearâs bills, and itâs a favorite tactic of Humphreyâs.
The day after Humphrey filed his furry bill, he called it his âcrazyâ bill, saying, âIâve laughed and said, well, we ought to neuter them and vaccinate them and send them to the pound." KOCO News reported, âHumphrey said although it may not become law, he wants to bring attention to what he called a problemâ (Jones, 2024). Perhaps, like the urban legend that inspired it, the billâs purpose is to attract attention by being intentionally absurd. It makes up a guy to get mad at: it describes an invented situation that has never happened, then recommends penalties for that imaginary situation, and those penalties themselves are something that may not be realistically carried out, or which would have absurdly high-stakes consequences. Humphreyâs furry bill doesnât mention transgender people, but he wrote it in reference to an urban legend that parodies transgender people. Humphrey has also made many public remarks against transgender people, and he has supported anti-transgender bills (Murphy, 2021).
Other Representatives believe he may have intended for the absurdity of his furry bill to distract attention from more serious bills. On the same day that he prefiled this, he also filed a racially discriminatory bill about Oklahomans of Hispanic descent, House Bill 3133 (Jones, 2024).
Part of Humphreyâs amusement here is that he has a beef with animal control. In addition to his hostilities toward LGBTQ people, one of his long-term goals is to reduce the legal penalties for cockfighting from felony to misdemeanor. Throughout the US, this blood sport is illegal, and it is a federal crime to bring a child under age sixteen to any animal fighting events (Humane Society). Humphrey approves of allowing children there, saying, âYouâre dang skippy Iâll take my kid to a chicken fighting before Iâm gonna take them to see a drag queenâ (Leigh, 2023).
This yearâs anti-transgender and anti-furry bill in Mississippi
Introduced on January 17, MS HB 176 would require schools to out transgender students to parents, and to allow faculty to not accommodate any student whoÂ
âidentif[ies] at school as a gender or pronoun that does not align with the child's sex on their birth certificate, other official records, sex assigned at birth, or identifying as an animal species, extraterrestrial being or inanimate object.âÂ
As the nonprofit journalism site Mississippi Free Press noted, âThere are no known incidents of Mississippi schoolchildren identifying as aliens or inanimate objects, but the idea of children identifying as animals may stem from an unsubstantiated urban myth about litter boxes that spread among Republican officials in recent yearsâ (Harrison, 2024). Here is the bill on Mississippiâs official site, and on the third-party site Legiscan. The billâs seven authors are all Republican Representatives: Charles âChuckâ Blackwell (main author), William Arnold, Randy Boyd, Larry Byrd, Dan Eubanks, Jimmy Fondren, and Donnie Scoggin. In the same month, Blackwell also sponsored the bill MS HB 303 (about digital currencies) and co-sponsored the bill MS HR 17 (for deporting undocumented immigrants back to Mexico) (TrackBill).Â
An overview of last yearâs anti-furry bills
Important background for whatâs happening is that last year in the US, sexists introduced more than five hundred bills to limit the rights of transgender people (Reed, 2023). Four of those were also against furries or people who identify as animals. They were mainly against the rights of transgender students, and also opposed âa student's perception of being any animal species other than humanâ (North Dakota House Bill 1522) or âanthropomorphic behavior commonly referred to as furriesâ (Oklahoma Senate Bill 943).Â
The text of the third, Indiana Statehouse Bill 380, only talked about dress codes and âdisruptive behavior.â Later, this was amended to say âdistractive behavior.â However, its writer said that it was to prevent âimitating or were behaving like a furryâ (Herron, 2023). The billâs unspoken real aim was to prevent transgender students from dressing as their gender.Â
The fourth was a proposed amendment to Montana Senate Bill 544. It would have changed this internet censorship bill to also censor âacts of transgenderism,â which it defines as âa person being in the mental state of believing the person is transgender or transspeciesâ (Scribner, Shepard, and Sol, 2023). The word âtransgenderismâ is a dogwhistle used by people who oppose transgender rights. âTransspeciesâ is not typically thought of as a subset of it.
By the end of 2023, what came of those four bills? The line about animals was later deleted from the North Dakota bill, though it was still anti-transgender (Scribner, March 14, 2023). It passed on May 18, becoming law that will oppose the rights of transgender students. Last yearâs Oklahoma bill died in committee. The Indiana bill passed on May 4, and will prohibit âdistractive behaviorâ in schools. The Montana bill passed on May 19, and itâs still a clumsy plan for internet censorship, but the final text did not use the amendment that talked about transgender or transspecies (Legiscan). So far, no laws have passed with texts that mention anything along the lines of furries or identifying as nonhuman.
What are anti-furry bills really about?
These bills happened because of an urban legend. In parody of transgender students, Republicans made up a story that schools have litter boxes for students who identify as cats. Fact-checking site Snopes has been debunking this legend (Palma), as has Reuters Fact Check. This panel by a historian gives very detailed information about the legendâs development (Chimeras, 2022). Republicans imply through this legend that letting transgender students use the restroom that matches their gender identity would be as ridiculous as giving litter boxes to students who identify as animals.
What are the facts about people who identify as animals, if any exist? Surveys of the furry fandom show that most people who call themselves furries do not identify as animals (Plante et al, 2016, pp. 113-114). However, there are real people who sincerely identify as animals or nonhuman beings. Many call themselves therianthropes or otherkin (Scribner, 2023, âSimple introductionâ). Sexists use the word âtransspeciesâ to parody transgender people. However, a few transgender people call a nonhuman aspect of themselves transspecies (Chimeras, 2021). None of them did the things in schools that the urban legend says, so the legend isnât true, and the legend wasnât created in response to them. The threatening intent of the legend and bills is toward transgender people, but could cause trouble for furries and people who identify as animals.
Are there people who think of their gender identity as something nonhuman, and is that based on or part of the concept of being transgender? Transgender people who donât feel they are a woman or man only or all the time have a nonbinary gender. Some people feel so different from a woman or man that they say their gender is something other than human. Since 2014, some call themselves xenogender, meaning âalien gender.â This can be a metaphor for something difficult to put into words, and they do not necessarily think of themselves as literally nonhuman, though some do. Surveys show that most nonbinary people define their gender in relation to being a woman or man; only 1.7% of nonbinary people call themselves xenogender or a variation on that word, and no other xenogender identity comes close to common (Gender Census, 2023). However, identifying as nonhuman is not inherently a form of being transgender, and was not developed based on the concept of being transgender.
What happens next for Humphreyâs anti-furry bill?
On February 5 and 6, it had its first and second readings, and it was referred to the House Rules Committee to read it next. That Committee has seven Republicans and two Democrats (State of Oklahoma). Weâll see if they let it die the same as last yearâs Oklahoma bill, or if they vote for it to progress toward passing in some form. Remember the aforementioned interview where Humphrey said he doesnât expect it to pass. Its purpose is to make âa sarcastic pointâ and attract attention away from other bills.
What happens next for the Mississippi bill?Â
The day it was introduced, MS HB 176 was referred to the Mississippi House Education Committee and still waits for them to vote on it. Given that the Committee has a majority of Republicans (according to its government site and legislation tracking site, BillTracker.com), and the billâs similarity to the North Dakota bill that passed last year with the portion about non-humans deleted, theyâre likely to pass this bill in some form. The director of the Mississippi branch of the Human Rights Campaign, Rob Hill (he/him), said,Â
âWeâve not seen this kind of bill in Mississippi before, and we hope that our leaders will resist another effort to stigmatize and isolate transgender and nonbinary youth and their peers [...] This is a very dangerous bill. Itâs dangerous for the lives of youth ⌠and it further perpetuates Mississippiâs image of being a place of discriminationâ (Harrison, 2024).
What can you do?
Page Shepard (they/he), House of Chimeras (they/them), and I presented a panel about the bills last August. In the recording of our panel, skip to the timestamp 23:44 to hear what ordinary people can do about bad bills. In the written script of our lecture, see Slides 21 through 25.

By Dave Fornell
New research supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health revealed a history of COVID-19 can double a patient's risk of heart attack, stroke or death.[1] The study, published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, found that the heightened risks can sometimes last for years after a COVID diagnosis.
The research was led by Cleveland Clinic and the University of Southern California. Anyone who had a COVID-19 infection, regardless of severity, was twice as likely to have a major cardiac event, such as heart attack, stroke or even death, for up to three years after diagnosis, the group found. The risk was significantly higher for patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and more of a determinant than a previous history of heart disease.
The researchers also found that patients with a blood type other an O (such as A, B or AB) were twice as likely to experience an adverse cardiovascular event after COVID-19 than those with an O blood type.
These findings show that the long-term risk associated with COVID-19 âcontinues to pose a significant public health burdenâ and the findings warrant further investigation, according to the authors.
Cardiology may see increasing numbers of former COVID patients in the years to come During the pandemic, there were serious concerns that the SARS-CoV-2 virus may cause an increase in future cardiovascular issues in COVID patients. This was based on the larger than expected vascular and myocardial involvement seen in many cases. What was originally thought to be long-term damage subsided in patients overtime. While concerns about heart damage and increased numbers of heart failure patients did not come to pass, this study shows evidence that cardiologists may still see increasing numbers of patients in the years to come.
âWorldwide over a billion people have already experienced COVID-19. The findings reported are not a small effect in a small subgroup,â co-senior study author Stanley Hazen, MD, PhD, chair of cardiovascular and metabolic sciences in Cleveland Clinicâs Lerner Research Institute and co-section head of preventive cardiology, said in a statement. âThe results included nearly a quarter million people and point to a finding of global healthcare importance that promises to translate into a rise in cardiovascular disease globally.â
Why do COVID patients have elevated cardiovascular risks? Researchers used U.K. Biobank data from 10,005 people who had COVID-19 and 217,730 people who did not between February and December 2020. Certain genetic variants are already linked to coronary artery disease, heart attack and COVID-19 infection, so researchers completed a genetic analysis to see if any of these known genetic variants contribute to elevated coronary artery disease risk after COVID-19. They found none of the known genetic variants were drivers of the enhanced cardiovascular events observed post COVID-19 infection. Instead, the data highlighted an association between elevated risk and blood type.
Previous research has shown that people who have A, B or AB blood types were also more susceptible to contracting COVID-19, the researchers said.
âThese findings reveal while itâs an upper respiratory tract infection, COVID-19 has a variety of health implications and underscores that we should consider history of prior COVID-19 infection when formulating cardiovascular disease preventive plans and goals,â Hazen said. âThe association uncovered by our research indicates a potential interaction between the virus and the piece of our genetic code that determines blood type and signals the need for further investigation.â
âGiven our collective observations and that 60% of the world's population have these non-O blood types, our study raises important questions about whether more aggressive cardiovascular risk reduction efforts should be considered, possibly by taking into consideration an individual's genetic makeup," explained Hooman Allayee, PhD, of USCâs Keck School of Medicine, who was co-senior author of the paper.

**TW!!** ab*se, s*xual ab*se, stalking
yeah 12H & 8H synastry is hard in any relationship but have you ever had 8H or 12H synastry with your own parents??? Okay so let's talk about it.
My Dad & I having 12H synastry
My dad's venus, NN, Saturn, & Chiron are in my 12H. None of my plants touch his 12H. In my experience, this has pretty much made so much sense of the weird relationship i had with my dad. First off, a lot of my planets fall into his 11H so we at some point did have more of a friendship. It felt hard connecting to him like a father tbh. But back to 12H. I always felt like my dad saw me as someone I just was not, or he saw me through the perception of other people. For instance, if I did something he perceived as negative or didn't like, I was "just like my mother". I think in his mind, I literally was just like her (I was def not) and because he viewed me this way I feel he sometimes treated me like I actually was her. The relationship with my dad is not good at all (that can be suggested by my cap uranus/neptune 10H & 12H saturn natal placements) but to me, it always felt like it was not good because my dad was determined to see me in a negative light. It was like he either saw me as an enemy, or had to make me an enemy for whatever reason. I'll be honest, my dad has ab*sed me in many ways throughout my life, and in the worst ways too... all in secret. There were so many secrets about him, and things to this day are still being revealed. I used to compare my dad to an onion -- each peeled layer revealing new "lore" about him. He was involved in dark stuff, and has an interest in the occult. I will leave it at that. Anyways I am sure this can manifest positively but for me, this synastry brought a lot of pain, manipulation, ab*se, power pay dynamics, s*xual ab*se, isolation, HEAVY surveillance (he'd read my diaries, go through my drawers, decide what I could wear out). We are no longer in contact as I am healing and recalling my childhood, and I have no plans rekindling that relationship. We have not formally spoken in almost 2 years, but he often makes fake accounts on social media to reach out to me, "confess" what he's done, apologize, and beg for my attention. The last he has done this was February this year, so stalking can be an issue too. But, even though I am in no contact, my dad haunted me for a while. He was like the devil on my shoulder, the monster under my bed, the sleep demon in my subconscious... 12H synastry with your parents can be very precious and sweet, but it could also manifest as your parents literally being your worst nightmare. He was mine.
My Mom & I having 8H Synastry:
My mom's moon & Neptune are in my 8H, and I have no planets making contact with her 8H. Our relationship is... complicated. What I can say is, she is just as abusive as my father, and has a sick mind. Or at least, there's something wrong with the way she thinks about people -- I sort of feel like she sees people as objects, or as a means of getting things (I think she's narcissistic). But when it comes to me... i feel like our relationship has always been emotionally distant, and transactional. My mom started making money and gaining attention off of me when I was a toddler. She used to dress me up and make me take "photoshoots" which I have lots of questions about. She claims she sold them to magazines. Or, as I got older, she would push me into doing contests that involved being in the public, or "preforming" -- all for some sort of gain. If I was not doing that, she put me in surveys to earn extra money to give to her. My mother is very greedy, very private, very malicious on an internal front. Her moon in my 8H really makes sense to me because I have never really felt like my mother was honest about how she felt about me, or she concealed her true feelings for me very well. To her core, I think she sees me as competition which is weird. But that's exactly how most of my life has been with her -- if I got an ounce of attention for something I did, she would do something to garner more attention for herself -- good and bad. Hidden motives, and dark feelings were prevalent with her. I am not exaggerating but there have been times (even still) where I question if it's not that she doesn't like me....but she actually hates me? The lines are blurred because she has hurt me in ways I imagine one would if they hated someone, let alone their daughter. Her Neptune in my 8H reminds me of how hard I tried to see the good in her, probably for too long, and up to a delusional point. I idealized her when the reality was that she was not just a neglectful, but abusive mother as well. She created a lot of illusions in me about different people in my life, and really caused me lots of mental distress at a young age. I definitely had to pull away from her all together to fully understand how this relationship affected me on a psychological level. SOOOO yeah. Of course this is just MY experience having these aspects with my parents and of course there's other aspects that can make this situation look different for everyone. Do you have any 8H/12H synastry with your parents? what does that look like for you?

Japanese Dramas
that I watched in January/February & my thoughts on them ^.^
VIVANT
VIVANT - (Netflix) A drama about corporate and political espionage that takes place in a fictional country called Balka but is filmed in Japan and Mongolia. I love the main stars Sakai Masato and Abe Hiroshi, and the various references to Sakai's previous show Hanzawa Naoki (the director of which also directs Vivant). There is a lot of action and I found the story very interesting, but in the middle it slows down for an episode, so just push through that part lol. 5/5 particularly for the cast.
ăăłăăŁăłă°ăăŹă¤ăłâ8ć23ĺăććĽ ĺă¨
Pending Train - (Netflix) A train car full of normal, everyday people are suddenly thrown together in an unknown location where they have no idea what is going on. They cannot contact anyone else, and they must learn to survive and to work together. Here the main trio are played by amazing actors (Yamada Yuki, Akaso Eiji, Kamishiraishi Moka) and the story line kept me interested until the end. 5/5 acting and storyline all around.
垥ćć´ĺŽśăçä¸ăă
Burn the House Down - (Netflix) A fire destroys a whole family, but years later the daughter canât accept that her mother, who was left without a memory of the events, was the arsonist. She infiltrates the house of the person she thinks is responsible for this tragedy and works to solve this mystery. Nagano Mei is great as the protagonist and Suzuki Kyoka is an amazing antagonist, and the twists and turns will leave you wanting to binge this drama quickly. 5/5 for suspense and for making me nervous right through to the end.
ćăŻă¤ďż˝ďż˝ăăăŠăăžăŚă
An Incurable Case of Love - (Netflix) If you liked Itazura na Kiss youâll like this drama! A girl recognizes her dream of becoming a nurse so she can be by the side of the doctor she met in high school. But heâs kind of a jerk. Plenty of ăăăă (fast heartbeat) and č¸ăăĽăł (that squeeze in your chest) for romance drama fans. Hospital setting so beware of the mild hospital type things that come along with it. Some deep subject matter as well. Kamishiraishi Mone and Satoh Takeru with excellent acting for your troubles. 5/5 for making my heart race (this was my second time watching it!).

My company is something that has been a dream of mine for a while now. And just within the past couple hundred years I decided to make it real. I take requests from men. Men who want their bodies to look a certain way. Wants that take time and dedication. Small or large. And I make it happen. The best part is that I never get any complaints. Magic seals the deal and nothing negative can be said even if the end result isnât desirable.
Take Mikey for instance. He came to me wishing that he could just put on a little bit of muscle. Nothing major he said. âI donât want people looking at me funnyâ. I chuckled at the thought. Sure I like to help men get their wishes. Their dream bodies. But Iâm also an ass hole. So of coarse I was willing to help Mikey in his quest for his perfect body. The time frame of a Year was set abs with that I took possession of Mikey leaving him asleep in his own unconscious. For a year I worked mikeys body out. Getting him into the rhythm of working out. Slowly the muscle started to come. What seemed like a blink of an eye I left Mikey. I left his body standing in front of a mirror so he could admire the work I did for him. All I heard was screaming as he waddled into the living room where a large pizza sat. âWhat did you do to me!!â I told him muscle were no fun if people would look. So I had to make sure they would look. And a steady workout routine was the trick. That and a very high dose of vitamins and steroids made him the ultimate roid pig. Eating large meals helped to power the hulking frame he now had. He wouldnât be able to stay away from the gym. And he wouldnât be able to stop taking his supplements. I made sure of that. And from this day forward people would see Mikey as true muscle freak he was truely meant to be.

Reputation Timeline
This is a very long post that puts all the songs on Reputation in order of Taylor creating them. Iâve also included a few other songs she worked on while writing rep and quotes from Taylor and her collaborators talking about her process.
If you don't want to read all that, check out this playlist of the album in order or this playlist of her entire discography.
Iâve also added this color coded scale of how sure I am of the date:Â
Confirmed: There is some type of official source for the date
Inferring: Nobody has officially said âThis is when we wrote it,â but all available evidence points to that date
Speculation: This date is based off pure vibes and guesswork and is highly likely to change.
Unknown: All that is known is the year (from the US Copyright Offices
February 13, 2015: Taylor's interview with Vogue is published (likely conducted on January 14/15).
"I donât worry that I havenât started the next record yet. I donât worry that I donât know what itâs going to be. Iâm not worried that I have absolutely no timetable as to when it needs to be done. It could be two years from now; it could be three, it could be four. Or it could be one. You get these bursts of inspiration right at the moment youâre not expecting to. You just have to live your life, and hopefully youâll take the right risks."
March 2, 2015: Taylor is photographed leaving a studio. (Note: I can not find a place that specifies if this is a recording studio, dance, photography, radio, or television studio).
May 20, 2015: Taylor's interview with Marie Claire is published (likely conducted two months beforehand).
Taylor is not even sure she'll have made another album by the time 2020 rolls around. "I'm not going to put out an album until I've made one that's better than this one and that's going to be really hard," she says. And how might her music evolve if she does find love? "If that does happen, I think I could find complexity in happiness," she says. "I don't think anything's ever simple. Just because you're happy in a relationship doesn't mean there aren't moments of confusion or frustration or loneliness or sadness. Hopefully, if I ever find some sort of meaningful relationship, I'll be able to still find inspiration, just through everyday ups and downs."
October 7, 2015: Taylor is photographed leaving a recording studio in New York.
November 13, 2015: Taylor's interview with Vogue Australia is published (likely conducted two months beforehand).
Every two years since 2006 she has released an album, followed by a tour, then moved onto the next one. But her latest album, 1989, might change plans a bit. âThis album has produced more number ones than any album in the past, so weâre just going to go with it,â she says, going on to explain how the usual album cycle could be extended. âThen Iâll feel like Iâll need to give people a breather from me because at a certain point theyâre going to get a little sick of hearing about me, so Iâll need to go away for a while then, depending on my gauge on how sick of me they are, Iâll decide when to put out the next album.â [...] Â âIâve been learning every single day what the right amount of sharing [of her personal life] is, and lately itâs been not natural because this album is such a snapshot of my life â it was so vivid, direct and honest.â
April 20, 2016: Taylor interview with Vogue is published (conducted in February).
So what the hell are you going to do with the rest of your life, Taylor Swift? âI have no idea,â she says, with a sigh thatâs more blissful than anxious. âThis is the first time in ten years that I havenât known. I just decided that after the past year, with all of the unbelievable things that happened . . . I decided I was going to live my life a little bit without the pressure on myself to create something.â Do not freak: Swift is not abandoning making music. Those who know her know this is chemically impossible. (âHer not being creative is one of the last things Iâd ever worry about,â the musician and producer Jack Antonoff tells me later.) âIâm always going to be writing songs,â Swift says. âThe thing is, with me, I could very well come up with three things in the next two weeks and then jump back into the studio, and all of a sudden the next record is started. Thatâs an option, too.â But probably not for the moment.
August 29, 2016: Taylor writes in her diary "This summer is the apocalypse."
Gorgeous: Sep. 1-5, 16, 17, 19 (Confirmed)
In the Making of a Song video, Taylor is seen wearing this outfit in her Nashville apartment, which dates the song to September 17. From there, the rest of the dates are just math.Â
King of My Heart: Sep. 6, 19, 20, 21 (Confirmed)
In the Making of a Song video, Taylor is seen wearing the same outfit in the Gorgeous video and the KOMH video. It's also the same outfit as a video she later posted to The Swift Life (RIP) where she talked about how excited she was to be working after a long break.
September 9, 2016: Gigi Hadid says "You know, [Taylor] is starting to go back to work in the studio again."
I Don't Wanna Live Forever: Early Oct. (Speculation)
In a teaser for the Making of a Song series, Taylor is seen in an unfamiliar outfit (black mesh top) with bleached hair and a thin gold choker that she was fond of in October 2016. She is not wearing her silver J pendant, which she got as a 27th birthday present (Dec 13, 2016). IDWLF is the only song with no video footage that was written in 2016. I don't recognize the studio in the clip, but she recorded IDWLF with Jack Antonoff, who is based in New York. Taylor was on the east coast until October 22nd, and was seen in New York between October 11-13.
Delicate: Oct. 24-26 (Speculation)
Taylor is seen wearing the aforementioned thin gold choker, with her post Sep. 24 haircut (straight across bangs instead of a side part). Since she normally goes into the studio with Max Martin and Shellback with a few ideas, and creates multiple songs during their sessions, I'm inclined to group this song with IDSB and place it in late October.
I Did Something Bad: Oct. 14, 27 (Confirmed)
In the Making of a Song video, at 4:18 you can spot a gold temporary tattoo on the inside of her wrist, similar to ones she was wore at Drakeâs Birthday Party on October 23. Since she is seen working until sundown (She leaves LA on October 28) and had to be in Nashville 13 days priar (She was seen in New York City until the 13), October 14 and 27th are the only dates that make sense.Â
January 3, 2017: Taylor writes in her diary "I get all scared about the future because so much has changed in the last year of my life. I mean this time last year I was living in LA, getting ready for Grammys and now, Iâm essentially based in London, hiding out trying to protect us from the nasty world that just wants to ruin things. We have been together and no one has found out for 3 months now. I want it to stay that way because I donât want anything about this to change or become too complicated or intruded upon. But itâs senseless to worry about someday not being happy when I am happy now. Ok. Breathe."
Don't Blame Me: Jan. 10, 11, 12 (Inferring)
Taylor is seen wearing a similar jacket as she was papped wearing on the 11th in the Making of a Song video. (This is pure speculation on my part, but the mood also seems to be a bit lower than on other days). We know she was in LA around this time âfor work.â
Dancing With Our Hands Tied: Jan. 11 (Confirmed)
This post explains the situation pretty well. There are multiple accounts of what seems to be a similar story. January 11th one of two times she is seen leaving the gym after a long paparazzi dry spell, the other being in July. Seeing as the song is produced by Max Martin, who is located in LA, and the July pictures are in New York, Iâm inclined to agree with the original source.
Dress: Late January/Early February 2017 (Speculation)
Jack Antonoff: âDress is my second favorite [from Reputation]. It's the first one we made for it." Taylor was mostly based in London in early 2017, but thereâs two times we know she was in the states. The first is in early January, when Taylor was in California working with Max Martin and Shellback. The second time is in late January/early February, when she was in Nashville preparing for Super Saturday Night. My guess is this was written in Late January, mostly because she was on the east coast, but theoretically she could've done it earlier in the month, or even later in the year.
Look What You Made Me Do: Late January/Early February 2017 (Speculation)
In promos for the Making of a Song Video, as well as in Miss Americana, Taylor is seen with straight hair and her J initial necklace (dating the song to post-Dec 13, 2016). Her hairstyle (the deep side part) is very Mid-2016. For most of 2017, she seems to favor the straight across braids with strands on the side. Long story short (ha), the hair makes me what to put this as early in the timeline as possible. We know Taylor was on the east coast (specifically Nashville) in early February, preparing for Super Saturday Night.
New Years Day: 2017 (Unknown)
There isnât any footage of this, but Jack Antonoff has said that it came together fairly quickly and unexpectedly while they were hanging out at his house.Â
...Ready For It?: May 2017 (Speculation)
In promos for the Making of a Song series, as well as Miss Americana, Taylor is seen with curly hair, her J necklace, and not her Sapphire Evil Eye Ring, which starts showing up on June 27th (We donât know exactly when or why she got the sapphire ring). . Since the song partially focuses on whether or not her lover is ready for the media frenzy that surrounds dating her, Iâm inclined to place this song in May, when her and Joeâs relationship leaked to the press. The song was recorded in Sweden, and we can assume she was in Europe between May 15 and June 1, 2017. (That being said, we can assume she is in Europe for most of the first half of 2017).Â
Call It What You Want: June 2017 (Speculation)
In the Making of a Song series, Taylor is seen with straight hair, her J necklace, and not her sapphire evil eye ring. Once again, I am tempted to put this after her relationship leaked to the press, probably in early June (She is in the states on the 1st and 3rd, and probably leaves sometime in mid-June).
End Game: Mid July (Confirmed)
Ed Sheeran has said that the song was written around July 14th, while he was playing in Connecticut and Taylor was in Rhode island. Ed: End Game was written - I was playing Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, and she has a place in Rhode Island, which isn't too far. So she hits me up like, 'I know you're in Connecticut, come around.' I go around, she plays me some of what turned out to be reputation, and plays me this End Game, and I was like 'Man, I really like this. Can I do a verse? Can I do a rap verse?' And she was like, 'Yeah, for sure!' So the next day, I remember, I was in bed, and woke up and got my laptop out, put the song, just looped it, wrote this verse, and I went in with Max Martin, who she did the song with, and recorded it. Then Future did a verse, and then Taylor wrote a verse and we did the video.
Getaway Car: July 2017 (Speculation)
In the Making of a Song series, Taylor is seen with curly hair, her J necklace, and her sapphire evil eye ring, placing the song sometime shortly before/after June 27th. We know she was in the states for most of July, and in New York City on the 17th and 24th.
This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things: July 2017 (Speculation)
In the Making of a Song series, Taylor is seen with straight hair, her J necklace, and her sapphire evil eye ring. For all the same reasons as Getaway Car, this song was probably recorded in July. The exact order of Getaway Car and TIWWCHNT is probably impossible for anyone not involved in the making of the song to know. I could see arguments for either order, but Taylor has said that reputation is in fairly chronological order, Iâm putting it in order of tracklist.
So It Goes: September 2017 (Inferring)
Oscar GĂśrres, a cowritter on the song, said he got a call from Max Martin, Shellback, and Taylor asking to use his track after heâd just had a child. According to social media, he had a daughter in 2015 and a son in September of 2017. The interview is a bit confusing, timeline-wise. On one had, GĂśrres says âIâd just become a father,â but then he implies that Max and Shellback had already completed most of the album. (For context, English isnât his first language). Personally, I believe the believe the September 2017 date. Multiple sessioners have said Taylor said all songs on the album were about her relationship with Joe, and the tracklists in the reputation magazines are out of order, suggesting a late change. Taylor has has also been known to add a song to the album incredibly last minuteâ most notably Forever & Always on Fearless, but also with Death By A Thousand Cuts on Lover, which had to have been written post April 20, 2019 (but that's for another album).
