Michael Afton Headcanons
Just a fun headcanon dump to get into the writing mood :) These are super random though. I think I'm possessed.
Tumblr media
Mike is a huge pirate fan. He wanted to be a pirate until he was 8 (which is when he wanted to be an astronaut).
His favorite food is lasagna (his mom's is the best).
He's super tall and has always been super tall. The coach ran him down to play basketball his sophomore year of high school.
He's been working for his dad since he was seven. By the time he's in high school, he can basically run any shift by himself.
His best classes in high school are gym, physics and art class.
He would eat at least two full boxes of pizza per day, if he were allowed to.
He's really good at all of their arcade games. His highest score is in Pac-Man, though.
He's super scared of heights.
He went to a British primary school in London before his dad moved back to Utah when he was 6.
He "learned" how to play the electric guitar when he was fourteen. "Learned" is doing a lot of heavy lifting, because he can only read tab and really only learned riffs and some easy AC/DC songs.
Somehow, he's still able to impress people, even though he is clearly just abusing a whammy bar.
He plays basketball, football and baseball. He likes sports because he means he's home less.
He really likes cars a lot. He suped up his truck's engine when he was 16 and has almost wrecked it in races with other high schoolers multiple times. But car stuff is how he bonds with William, Henry and Ralph.
He's been smoking since he was 11. William doesn't really care, as long as he doesn't steal his.
He spends a lot of time taking over house activities for his mom, when she's too tired to get out of bed. This has made him a pretty good cook, though.
He's kind of a cool guy in school, but he's sort of seen as a 'bad kid' and a 'huge asshole', so he's definitely got a smaller group of friends. This is fine, because he's kind of a loner anyway.
He gets pretty good grades, except for in English class (he has dyslexia).
He has a pretty huge crush on Maria Rodriguez. He embarrasses himself to try and impress her a lot.
When he was thirteen, he broke his arm wrestling the school security guard to impress a girl. His friends have not let him live this down.
When he was fifteen, he drove into the school's gym while trying to show his friends a sick car trick over the weekend. His father has yet to let him live this down.
He and William fight a lot. I mean, most of the time. But they're kind of similar people, with similar senses of humor and some overlapping interests, so sometimes they can have friendly conversations with each other.
Mike likes gossiping with his Aunt Vangie (Henry's wife) and his mom.
When he was fourteen, he made up a game of throwing up lawn darts and having the neighborhood kids catch them. This was stopped after a few too many close calls.
He also made a game of rolling kids down hills in tractor tires. This was only stopped after he got bored of it.
He's the kind of guy that punches wholes in the dry wall.
He used to BMX, but Chip is way better at it, so he gave that dream up because he hates being one-upped by his own posse.
He doodles sometimes in class. He likes to impress girls by drawing them. He also likes trying the Fazbear band. A lot.
Foxy is his favorite animatronic. He ships him with Chica.
He rough-houses with Evan and Elizabeth. A lot.
This includes farting on their heads and forces them to smell his arm pit.
He cackles.
He's a cool guy, so he sneaks out to go to parties a lot.
Sometimes this means stealing William's nice cars, which he will always end up regretting.
He likes watching soaps with his mom.
He's the best of all his siblings of picking up his room.
His room is full of posters of hot supermodels and Playboy models, by the way.
He's given all of the animatronics personalities. Bonnie's is the malevolent, in his view.
He's very violent and gets into physical fights with others a lot.
Big undiagnosed bipolar disorder energy.
He chews gum all the time. Literally all the time. It's very annoying.
He had a Mormon baby blessing, but he was never baptized.
He gets invited to church activities sometimes. People almost always regret it.
He dresses in the more general, 80s rock 'n' roll, hair metal style, but he is a goth rock lover.
His middle name is James.
He smokes weed sometimes. But he mostly just drinks.
His mom's parents live in Virgin. He doesn't visit them that often, even though they're kind of close, because William is embarrassed to be associated with them. He is the oldest of their grandchildren, though. (Teen pregnancy things.)
He was sent to a pretty extensive psychiatric programme in Draper after killing Evan.
He graduated high school early.

m*a*s*h reaction post released from my drafts!! i don't know why i have been worried about making a Good Post when legitimately everything that could ever be said about this show has been said.
so i will SHARE MY THOUGHTS ABOUT SEASON THREE currently in progress:
ooooh war got a sweet budget increase in the off-season. pyrotechnics! helicopters! ACTIONNN BAYBEEEE
i'm falling more in love with everyone, details to follow
top of the list: trapper my bestie has been promoted to trapper my legit fictional crush 💕
don't get me wrong, in real life i would slap his face, but i'm with hot lips on this one. the hair, the smile, every time he takes off his shirt... take me to the supply tent or lose me forever
HOWEVER, i happened to notice that he is not on the header pic on hulu* and none of you talk about him so i must regretfully conclude that he will eventually leave the show
DON'T TELL ME WHEN
anyway i am cherishing him as one cherishes an old dog not long for this world
*speaking of hulu: i have now joined the henry blake appreciation society thanks to this One Weird Trick (reupping my hulu account for a month because i lost my shit after the dvds cut out at the climax of an episode AGAIN)
i went back to rewatch the episodes that didn't play on the dvds, and turns out a lot of them were henry eps (including the trial of henry blake and the one where he is waiting for news about his new baby...) (and also the one where he fell in love with a cheerleader but you can’t win ‘em all)
just in time to appreciate that scene in "o.r." where he tells hawkeye he doesn't want to be discharged so that he can keep doing real doctoring 🥺
"o.r." had so many good character bits!! even frank got some depth?? or at least an explanation for why he's Like That...
other eps i liked:
"iron guts kelly" -- felt like a follow-up to the one last season where hot lips got wasted and broke up with frank and then hawkeye and trapper had to sober her up, which i also loved! "we hate her but she's OURS to hate" is such a good character dynamic.
also lmao every time she cheats on frank, GET YOURS GIRL 😘
the frank/margaret thing is strangely compelling actually? it's like an inverse ship for real. will-they-or-won't-they but for breaking up. same energy though, like i'm glued to the screen rooting for them to fight instead of kiss.
"check-up" i was sooooo brave you guys making peace with the situation BUT THEN TRAPPER STAYED!!! i feel like my crush has been given a stay of execution
i don't know if i ship it per se but i really hope he and margaret hook up exactly once and literally everyone regrets it
i've seen some more episodes and have more thoughts but i need to lie down a lot first
oh one more thing:
i realize "m*a*s*h actors amazing" is not breaking news, but i'm specifically obsessed right now with how they are always interacting with props. i don't even mean the o.r. tools or scripted things, but how in every scene they're doing comedy while also moving crap around, pouring things, drinking, shaving, changing clothes, handing (or THROWING) things to each other, just making a mess all the time while still hitting their lines and comic beats. it's a master class in whatever that is.
anyway it's so good!!! more to come 💕

ok but hear me out… if JD from Heathers, Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things, and Patrick Hockstetter from IT all went to Derry High at the same time… how would that even go?? like would they get along?? would they hate each other?? and what would Henry Bowers think of JD and Billy?? Derry’s small right?? so they totally could’ve known each other?? 👀✨ pls i need thoughts on this chaos group
yes! this whole setup works surprisingly well when you think about the setting, personalities, and small-town logistics. this is about to get very LONG.
the timeline & realistic overlap:
billy hargrove: 18 in 1985, born march 29, 1967 → graduated derry high that year (if he wasn't killed by pennywise). in 1989, he's 21, still in town—either attending a local community college, working a dead-end job, or just drifting and partying. his senior year, he was untouchable. one of the hottest, scariest guys in school. he ruled by sheer charisma, brute strength, and presence. he was loud, violent, magnetic. thrill-seeking behavior at its peak. shirtless in a leather jacket, burnout at the edge of the football field, lighting fireworks in the woods just because. party king, fights everyone. teachers hate him but couldn't really stop him. girls adored him, guys wanted to be him. no one says no to billy and lives unbruised. then he graduated in '85. but the ghosts of his reputation still hung in the derry locker room, and the boys who were once watching are now playing. billy's still in town in '89, still hot, still angry, but the throne is somewhat gone. he shows up to high school parties, flirts with teachers, his friends' moms, sneaks henry and patrick into bars. he's the "cool older guy" but also a warning sign. he works at a garage, maybe takes community college classes he never finishes. sleeps with people he shouldn't. flirts with mrs. hockstetter. screams at neil at 3 a.m. he's circling the drain but still glowing with that heat.
jd (jason dean): 18 in fall of 1989, born likely fall 1971 → senior at Derry High. smart-mouthed freshman when billy was a senior. had a dangerous glint in his eye. curious about everything, including billy. maybe even obsessed in a quiet, observant way. he's the kid who stalks billy home one time. he's starting to realize people are manipulatable. his brain is years ahead of his mouth, but his mouth is catching up fast. billy didn't notice freshman jd, but jd noticed everything about senior billy. by '89, jd is charismatic, sharp, terrfying in a quiet way. he debates teachers to their faces and wins. lures henry and patrick into games of "truth or dare." he's refined his persona. he talks like a cult leader. derry high is his lab. he gives out answers, fireworks, old chemistry notes, for a price. he controls the energy in every room he walks into. he's everything billy wasn't: controlled, quiet, smart, but just as dangerous. jd isn't intimidated by billy, but he is fascinated. jd plays nice when they hang out. he wants to see how far billy will fall.
henry bowers: 16 in 1989, born may 4, 1973 → should be a junior but got held back, making him a sophomore. was already fighting older boys, already pulling knives in the middle school lunchroom. trying so hard to get billy's attention. watched billy from afar, talked about him like a myth. when billy finally shoved him against a locker for being annoying, henry felt both scared and noticed. by '89, he's angry, dangerous, insecure. still trying to be billy. he gets loyalty through fear. still a pack leader in his own group, but increasingly unstable. leans on jd now for direction. fights, drinks, loses control. but he keeps coming back to billy because billy understands him better than anyone. billy gives henry what his dad doesn't: genuine attention.
patrick hockstetter: 15 in 1989, born february 4, 1974 → sophomore. silent. observing. dangerous as a middle schooler. not social. not friendly. but very interested in billy and not in a way he fully understood yet. patrick was the weird kid who knew too much about the missing cat and didn't flinch when billy screamed at someone. he was already desensitized. by '89, he's a muted menace. introspective, cold, magnetic in his stillness. uses selective attachment. only opens up to jd. obsessed with him. watches him constantly. worships his intelligence and control. stays close to henry. smokes quietly while jd monologues about entropy and destruction. kills small animals. feels seen for the first time. he still sees billy on occasion, probably even has a hand-me-down shirt billy once let him borrow. but jd? jd is his role model now.
derry's a small town. there's only one high school, one middle school, maybe two elementary schools. these boys would've crossed paths. billy would've been in high school while henry and patrick were still in middle school. jd and patrick 100% would've had overlapping classes at some point. henry and jd probably shared classes freshman/sophomore year.
billy + henry: brothers bonded in violence. billy is the guy henry bowers looks up to, the one he imitates, brags about knowing, and secretly wants to be. henry remembers being shoved into lockers by billy when he was in 8th grade. now? he wants billy's approval more than anything.
they connect over:
their dads: butch bowers (cop) and neil hargrove (bank security guard), both abusive, both deeply invested in enforcing their version of masculinity.
rage: billy sees that fire in henry's eyes and respects it. henry's down for anything: lighting stuff on fire, beating the shit out of someone for looking at them wrong, dropping acid at a bonfire. billy lives for that reckless loyalty.
parties: billy picks henry up in that loud-ass car, takes him to college parties where nobody questions their age because billy knows the right people, gets him laid. henry gets blackout drunk, tries to fight someone, and billy laughs it off, like "he's my kid. let him scrap." henry would break a guy's nose at a party for calling him a psycho. billy drags him outside, laughing, gives him a cigarette, and says, "you're gonna do great things, bowers. fucked-up things, but great."
jd + patrick: intellectual darkness. patrick finally finds someone who doesn't treat him like a freak. jd's not afraid of him. in fact, jd gets him. jd sees in patrick that raw, chaotic potential that hasn't found a shape yet. where henry pushes patrick around, jd plays chess with him, figuratively and maybe literally.
stoner philosophy sessions: they get high, walk through the woods behind the school, talk about whether evil is inherent or learned, whether a god exists, if souls are real.
music & style: patrick starts mimicking jd's taste by osmosis, industrial music, beat-up combat boots, old band tees. jd notices and lets it happen.
experiments: jd lets patrick help him build mini pipe bombs or pressure bottle bombs behind the school. patrick loves it. jd calls it science. patrick calls it punk rock. jd says something like, "everyone thinks you're a freak. they're not wrong. but maybe that's what makes you more evolved." patrick stares at him like he's god. jd smirks and offers him a clove cigarette.
jd + henry: frenemies with benefits (of convenience). henry doesn't get jd, but he knows better than to piss him off. jd has connections, brains, and that scary calm that makes henry feel uneasy. but jd gets him out of trouble, gives him answers for tests, and occasionally helps him rig pranks.
jd calls him "bowers" like he's a character in a comic book.
henry grumbles but takes his advice, especially when it benefits him.
they occasionally fight. jd once bloodied henry's nose for real. but they always go back to being "cool."
billy + jd: respect at a distance. they don't hang out often, but they know of each other. billy thinks jd's a freak, but a smart one. jd thinks billy is a narcissist but kind of pathetic, a guy who peaked in high school. but they understand each other's rage. there's this unspoken thing between them. they don't mess with each other's territory, they tolerate each other. jd would walk into a party with patrick and henry in tow. billy would be there, and they'd exchange a glance across the room, nod slightly. that's it. but it's loaded.
billy + patrick: history of bullying, new weird tension. billy used to shove patrick into lockers and flick lighters near his hair when patrick was in middle school. now? patrick still occasionally flinches around him, like a defense mechanism, but there's...something else. respect? fear? attraction? billy probably still calls him "freak," but less mean now. patrick would bring weed to a party. billy would smirk, sling an arm over his shoulder, and say, "guess you finally figured out how to be useful." patrick would smirk, and henry would watch from a distance, fuming.
one thing they'd bond over: daddy issues.
butch bowers is a man who wraps his rage in a badge. he likely has alcohol use disorder (severe), intermittent explosive disorder, narcissistic personality disorder (grandiose subtype), and possibly paranoid personality traits. he's a domestic violence perpetrator, too. butch is a classic authoritarian abuser. he thrives on control, respect, and fear. he views his family as extensions of himself, property. his masculinity is fragile as hell, so he overcompensates with brute force and physical abuse. as a cop, he abuses power both at home and on the street. he probably cheats, lies, takes bribes, and gaslights with impunity. he has sudden, disproportionate outbursts of violence, an inability to tolerate perceived "disrespect," a disdain for vulnerability, softness, or anything he deems "weak" (especially in boys). he also sees love as control. you obey, or you suffer. henry internalized that rage, misogyny, and obsessed with dominance. he learned love as terror, carries immense shame he masks with brutality, and may secretly hate his father, but mimics him out of fear and conditioning.
neil hargrove is the man who broke his son and blamed him for it. he, too, has narcissistic personality disorder (malignant subtype) and is a domestic abuse perpetrator. i'd also argue he demonstrates obsessive-compulsive personality disorder traits, possibly intergenerational trauma (untreated), and mild sadistic tendencies. neil is a control freak in every aspect of life. he cares deeply about appearances, obedience, structure, but not about love. he uses verbal and physical abuse to enforce his worldview. he presents himself as a stable family man, but his rage is precise, surgical. he's not impulsive like butch, he's calculated. he likely believes children exist to reflect their fathers, punishes perceived softness with humiliation, and never apologizes, ever. he claims to act out of love ("it's for your own good, billy.") billy self-loathes, a deep, corrosive self-loathing. he learned to equate love with violence and control, to fear his own emotions, and to create a performance-based identity: if he's not the best, the strongest, the hottest, he's nothing. billy learned to fake it to survive.
bud dean is a man who laughs when he should be listening. i'd diagnose him with dependent personality disorder, avoidant tendencies (emotionally conflict-avoidant, passively enabling), and possibly cyclothymic traits (mood instability without clear bipolar pattern). he also displays a permissive parenting style. bud tries to be "the cool dad" while jd is literally imploding. he avoids serious conversations with humor, often at his son's expense. bud lacks any real boundaries: lets jd drink, skip class, blow things up, as long as the neighbors don't complain. he weaponizes self-pity when jd expresses frustration: "i'm doing my best here, son. you think this is easy for me?" his grief over his wife's death gets sublimated into this weird forced cheerfulness, because he can't handle darkness. he calls jd "dad" as a joke, but also maybe kind of means it. because jd's the one with clarity. jd's the one who holds the pieces together. the reversal of roles? jd hates it. resents it. but also clings to the power it gives him. jd's never challenged, he's just left to rot in his own brilliance and nihilism, so he creates chaos to feel something real. he craves structure but sabotages anyone who offers it. bud never gave him a stable "no," so jd doesn't know how to cope with resistance from others. jd learned early on that adults are clowns in costumes, so he tests everyone: girlfriends, teachers, cops, to see who's pretending. he has a deep, gnawing hatred of his father's passivity. jd would rather be a monster than a wind bag. if someone asked jd how his dad is, he'd probably say: "he's like a beige couch. there, soft, sometimes smells like cigarettes. but you'd never cry on it."
patrick's dad is emotionally distant, unable to properly grieve the loss of avery. he pretends everything's fine. he hosts dinner parties, ignores the missing neighborhood pets, and tells the school patrick is "just going through a phase." mr. hockstetter is a firm handshake, a pressed shirt, and a severed conscience. i see him as being a high-functioning subtype of antisocial personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder (covert type), and possibly alexithymia (inability to recognize or describe emotions). he's polished, professional, well-established traveling paint salesman, and emotionally hollow. the kind of man who smiles wide for the hoa potluck and then ignores his wife crying in the bathroom. he views fatherhood as an obligation, not a connection. he taught patrick not with affection, but with silence, pressure, and subtle cruetly. he never needed to raise a hand, his coldness did the job. he likely dismisses emotions as "overreactions," sees himself as a provider and nothing more, and believes weakness is moral failure. he has a collection of vintage autographed baseballs and no actual interest in his son's life. patrick's sociopathy isn't just nature, it was modeled. he learned to mirror emotions from watching his dad manipulate people. his detachment, his game of masks, started at home.
would the dads get along in derry?
butch + neil: yes, for a while...until someone steps out of line and the testosterone boils over. fire meets steel, burns hot and fast. they both value control dominance, and fear as forms of respect. they'd get drunk together at a derry townie bar, talk about how "kids these days need a good smack." they'd smoke cheap cigars in the garage while complaining about their "useless" sons. they'd hate "pansy-ass teachers" at the school and make racist jokes and laugh like brothers. but butch is impulsive and paranoid, and neil is calculating and image-obsessed. neil might not want to be seen with "white trash" like butch once he starts getting sloppy. butch would suspect neil was cheating at poker or mocking him behind his back. neil would mock him behind his back. eventually, someone would throw a punch. neil's too cold to start it, but butch would. but their shared enemy is feelings.
butch + bud: absolutely not. butch would call him a "disgrace" and threaten to beat him with a wrench. rage meets the recliner. butch sees bud as a goddamn coward. bud doesn't beat his kid, doesn't set rules, probably lets the boy wear eyeliner and blow up mailboxes. butch would despise bud's permissiveness and emotional avoidance. bud views butch as intense, scary, and probably needs to see a shrink. bud would choose his battles around butch, try to joke to break tension, and butch would threaten to kill hi in the parking lot of a grocery store. bud would later tell jd, "that guy? total psycho." butch yells, bud plays it off, jd watches and files it away as another example of adults being stupid. butch and bud would have no common ground.
butch + mr. hockstetter: superficially, yes. they'd bond over conservative values and "discipline." but butch would be creeped out by his yuppie smarminess over time. the badge and the briefcase. on the surface, they might nod in agreement at pta meetings about "kids needing discipline." butch appreciates a man who keeps his lawn trimmed and his son quiet. but underneath, butch is loud, crass, emotionally volatile. mr. hockstetter is silent, evasive, surgically cruel. mr. hockstetter finds butch repulsive and emotionally messy. butch thinks mr. hockstetter is "one of those quiet sickos." they'd have a shared interest in public image maintenance, belief in control. but they're different breeds of predator. butch is a junkyard dog, mr. hockstetter is a wolf.
neil + mr. hockstetter: yes, and dangerously well. they'd see themselves in each other and be highly competitive. the mirror image, without reflection. these two are the ones you HAVE to watch. both are narcissistic, emotionally repressive, and deeply concerned with appearances. they'd exchange stock tips, make dry jokes about their wives, and judge everyone else in the room. they like hosting cookouts where no one talks about feelings and everything tastes like control. they believe weakness is a sin and boys must become men on their own. neil and mr. hockstetter could become allies or rivals. they might swap stories about "disciplining their sons" in that horrifying clinical way: no emotion, just strategy. they respect each other because they lack warmth.
neil + bud: no. neil would loathe bud's immaturity. precision meets tequila. neil views bud as unfit to be a parent. that bud's the kind of dad who creates degenerates. neil probably blames bud's parenting style for "all the commies and anarchists." bud views neil as "strict but probably means well..." bud might try to befriend neil once. it would end with neil saying something cruel and bud turning it into a chaotic, absurd moment. neil would never speak to bud again unless forced. bud tells jd, "he's just a little intense." jd rolls his eyes so hard they might detach.
bud + mr. hockstetter: weirdly, maybe. as neighbors, yes. as dads, no. mr. hockstetter thinks bud is a joke, and bud thinks mr. hockstetter is vapid. the manipulator and the man-child. they're both emotionally disengaged, prefer not to rock the boat. they might talk about lawn care, weather, school board drama, superficial things. mr. hockstetter might even tolerate bud, because bud poses no real threat. privately, mr. hockstetter thinks bud is a walking embarrassment, acting younger than his age, partying with high school kids, wearing flashy clothes. bud finds mr. hockstetter "a little stiff," but respects how he "keeps a clean house." they share space at hoa meetings and bbqs. they wave from across the street but don't know each other's birthdays. their unspoken dynamic is politeness masking total apathy.
what about max? if maxine is in derry in 1989:
she's probably 18, in jd's grade.
patrick and henry might tease her, but she's tough and mouths off. jd lowkey respects that.
billy is extremely overprotective of her, but he'll never admit it. if he catches henry looking at her sideways? all hell breaks loose.
she becomes kind of like a sister to henry and patrick by proximity. jd might let her hang around when she's bored and give her weird music tapes to borrow. patrick sneaks her cigarettes. henry reluctantly gets rides with her from school.
the other thing they'd bond over: mommy issues.
patrick's mom is barely a person in his world. i'd say she has a mix of persistent complex bereavement disorder, major depressive disorder, substance use disorder, unspecified trauma and stressor related disorder, and possibly some traits of ocd (rigid, avoidant, fear of confronting truth). patrick's detachment from human empathy is partly rooted in that emotional void. he doesn't trust women, but he desperately wants their validation. girls are puzzles, games, prey, but deep down, he's starving for someone to choose him. patrick's mom lost avery, her baby, her sweet, perfect second son. and she knows, somewhere in her bones, that patrick had something to do with it. no proof. no confession. just a mother's instinct, the cold pit of the stomach knowing that won't go away. she lives with it. sleeps next to it. wakes up and makes breakfast for it. it torments her, haunts her. she doesn't confront patrick because...then it becomes real. and if it's real, then she failed in the most absolute way a mother can. "avery was just a baby. babies get tangled up in blankets, can't roll themselves over. it was an accident. just an accident." she says it over and over. pills and vodka help her believe it. but she avoids being alone with patrick. she flinches when he walks into a room too quietly. she doesn't hug him anymore. she doesn't touch him much. she's stopped calling him "sweetheart." and patrick knows, of course he knows. he watches her take pills, watches her hands shake when she's slicing vegetables, watches her talk to the priest after mass. she's a little afraid of him. she avoids looking him in the eyes for too long, keeps the knives put away now, doesn't invite his friends over. there are screaming matches sometimes. late at night, not over anything specific. she says things like, "why can't you just be normal?" sometimes she cries, sometimes she laughs. patrick doesn't hate her, not exactly. she's locked in a grief spiral that has festered into dysfunction. her son avery's death, traumatic and ambiguous, has bred unresolved guilt, repression, and quiet terror. she uses pills, alcohol, and religion to survive the emotional noise in her head. she shows classic features of trauma-avoidant behavior: emotional numbing, selective denial, avoidant attachment to patrick, compulsive need to control her surroundings. she likely swings between dissociation and barely-contained panic. she's aware, on some level, that patrick did something unspeakable—but she cannot name it, because if she does, she loses everything. the child she has. the belief that she was ever a good mother. her grip on reality. she's a walking phantom, slowly decomposing in her suburban kitchen.
jd's mom is dead, and that changes everything. i'd tentatively diagnose her with bipolar 1 disorder (with psychotic features, untreated), or schizophrenia disorder, bipolar type. she took her own life, likely intentional via explosion (means of exit suggests impulsivity and emotional chaos). he doesn't hate her. he idealizes the memory of her. she becomes this angelic, tragic figure in his head, the one person who would've understood him, maybe even stopped him from turning out like his dad. her absence becomes his origin story. it fuels his whole philosophy: the world is corrupt, people are fake, everything dies...and she's the only pure thing that ever existed. his mother was probably mentally unstable, likely depressed or dealing with bipolar disorder, maybe even schizophrenic traits, and he was just old enough to remember everything, including her death. he remembers the good parts, the soft parts, the music, the way she hugged him. but he also remembers the manic energy, the paranoia, the way her hands shook. and the way she died, blown up in the same house where he lived, where he probably still sleeps. whether it was intentional or an accident, it scarred him permanently. "she didn't leave, she exploded." that's what he tells people. but there's this core wound: why didn't she take me with her? jd's view of women is bifurcated: they're either innocent angels (like his mom, like veronica, until they disappoint him), or they're part of the problem. he puts girls on pedestals until they challenge his control. then he flips. hard. he sees emotional intimacy as dangerous. a threat to autonomy. but he craves it. he romanticizes instability, finds beauty in broken women, feels safest around people who are just unstable as he is, idealizes lost love, chases intensity over consistency, views emotional chaos as proof of something real, hates his dad deeply but fears becoming him, so he keeps everyone at arm's length. jd's mom was likely intelligent, creative, unstable, deep in manic or psychotic cycles. she probably experienced grandiose delusions, paranoia, and mood swings that left jd confused but enthralled by her intensity. he saw her mania as magic and her despair as sacred. she may have played piano, painted, danced, read to him, only to fall apart for weeks at a time. she was the kind of woman people say "was just too much for the world." jd idolizes her because she represents freedom and authenticity—the opposite of his cruel, mechanical father. but he also inherited her instability, and he knows it. Her death becomes a creation myth: “i’m like this because she died.” his fixation on chaos, self-destruction, and existential philosophy are all rooted in her unraveling. she’s saint joan to him. a tragic heroine. a goddess of madness.
we barely see henry's mom (henrietta bowers), but canon and fanon often lean toward her being mentally unstable, possibly abused herself, maybe institutionalized or dead. i'd say she likely suffered from ptsd (chronic, complex), depersonalization/derealization disorder (secondary dissociation), major depressive disorder (severe, possibly psychotic). either way? she was a domestic abuse victim, and she's not there anymore. henry grows up in a house where the only mother is a broken mirror of what love should be. she couldn't protect him from butch. she couldn't protect herself. she tried to nurture henry, but it came too late, and it wasn't enough. henry's rage toward his dad tuned inward and sideways. he lashed out at women, especially those who showed any softness. he didn't know how to process care or gentleness. it makes him feel weak, and he cannot be weak. he doesn't hate his mom, but her absence taught him that women are unreliable. he needs control, power, and fear to feel safe. henry's mom was likely battered into silence. a woman who started out bright and full of hope, only to be worn down by butch's rage, cheating, and control. she was probably cheated on with someone like rena davenport, some trashy mistress in town. eventually, she cracked, or maybe she just vanished one day. she packed a bag and left henry behind, which might be the greatest betrayal of his life. he doesn't know where she is, never heard from her again, doesn't even know if she's alive anymore. she didn't fight for him, didn't stay for him. she knew what butch was and left her son with that man anyway. it gave henry a deep-seated misogyny masked as bravado. he reacts violently to softness, because softness was never safe in his house. he internalizes guilt: "she left because of me." he's obsessed with control and fear, because love has always proven unreliable. henry doesn't talk about her. but if someone mentions her name, you'd see that flicker in his eyes. jd probably notices. patrick probably probs. billy gets it. henrietta is a textbook case of battered woman syndrome. she likely experienced prolonged emotional, physical, and possibly sexual abuse by butch. she may have stayed for years out of fear, shame, or learned helplessness, retreating further into herself until she ceased to function as a parent. her "cracking" was likely a psychotic break or full emotional withdrawal. her eventual disappearance may have been a desperate escape, or a complete abandonment. to henry, her absence is betrayal, but also something darker: proof that love cannot be trusted. she might still be alive, but henry doesn't want to find her. because if he does, she might confirm his greatest fear: that she chose to leave him behind. she’s not a saint or a demon in his mind. she’s just gone. and it hurts.
billy's mom left. she abandoned him. she's alive, she just chose to be somewhere else. and that cuts deeper than anything. i'd say she likely had dependent personality disorder (with elements of learned helplessness), generalized anxiety disorder (moderate), adjustment disorder (with depressed mood, chronic), and ptsd (domestic abuse survivor). he remembers her as this beautiful, warm, glowing creature. she brushed his hair as a little boy, told him he was special. and then she left him with neil. billy's mommy issues are abandonment and over-idealization, similar to jd but still different. he's furious at her and still loves her. every girl he touches is a proxy, he wants to be loved by her, but he also wants to punish her. he sexualizes women to reclaim power but never feels safe with them. even when they want him, he pushes them away or uses them. under all that bravado, he's just a little boy waiting for his mom to come back and apologize. billy's mom is a holy wound. she didn't die, she didn't vanish, she just left. she's alive somewhere. that's worse. because that means billy wakes up every day wondering why he wasn't good enough, that she had to go off and start another family. why she didn't fight harder. he remembers her putting sunscreen on his shoulders at the beach, holding his face and calling him her "sweet boy." she was everything good, and she left him in hell. billy doesn't hate her, but he hates what she did to him. and he makes sure no one sees that pain, not even max. his deep abandonment issues are masked by sex and aggression. he seduces women for power, not connection. he's attracted to motherly figures but punishes them. he hates vulnerability in himself but craves comfort so badly it hurts. he worships her memory while resenting every piece of it. if he ever saw her again, he wouldn't know whether to hug her or scream in her face. bottom line, billy's mom is still alive, which makes her one of the most wounding maternal figures. she likely suffered years of abuse and emotional trauma from neil. she finally left—but didn’t take billy. whether that was out of fear, powerlessness, or manipulation by neil, billy doesn’t know. all he knows is she could have, and she didn’t. she probably remarried. had another child. started over. but there's a piece of her that never talks about billy. she loves him, from a distance, but has told herself a story where leaving him was the best option. that he was safer there. that she had no choice.
how the four boys view the disappearances in derry (pennywise's work):
jd - the one who's not surprised. "if evil is systemic, then derry is just doing what it was built to do."
jd already believes the world is cruel, corrupt, and rotting underneath a pretty facade. so when kids start vanishing? he doesn't panic. he doesn't mourn. he observes. he starts keeping a tally of names.
he visits spots where kids were last seen, not to help, but to see.
he talks about it like it's inevitable. "it's entropy, bowers. everything breaks down eventually, even kids."
he jokes about it dryly. "maybe it's a government experiment. maybe it's your mom, patrick. that'd explain the smell in your basement."
to him, derry is like a festering wound with no bandage. the disappearances just confirm what he already thinks: that people are either blind or complicit. he'd suspect something bigger is going on, not supernatural, necessarily, but systemic. a big conspiracy.
he tells patrick to "keep an eye out," but not in a protective way, in a testing way. "you might be next. let's see how you handle it."
he tells henry, "if someone took belch or vic, would you even care? or would you just miss the echo?"
jd turns it into a game of who's paying attention. he watches them for fear. he wants to see what they'll do.
billy - the one who's angry. "this town's always been poison. now it's just eating itself and dying."
billy would take it personally. not because he's scared, but because the disappearances represent a loss of control. he might act like he doesn't care, but underneath, it bothers him. he can smell the fear in the air, and it pisses him off. plus, he has max to worry about.
he blames derry. the people. the system. the adults. "these assholes just let their kids walk into the dark. what the hell did they think would happen?"
he starts acting more aggressive. picking more fights. showing up to parties already drunk.
he might even suspect patrick at some point. not seriously, but in that way where you say it just to watch someone squirm.
to henry: "you see anything weird, you tell me. got it?" it's protective, almost like an older brother. billy's on edge, and he trusts henry enough to want him close, but he also knows henry will snap if pushed.
to patrick: "you better not have anything to do with this. i swear to god, freak." it's not a real accusation. it's a threat. billy can't handle the idea that his circle might be part of the rot.
to jd: "you think it's funny? this shit? kids are dying."
jd: "everyone's dying, billy. some just do it louder."
patrick - the one hungry for meaning.
patrick isn’t involved in the disappearances, but he’s obsessed with them. he might not feel scared.
he sketches things in notebooks: missing kids, bloody teeth, the word "float," though he's not sure why.
he hangs around places where kids were last seen. not to help. just to feel something.
he asks jd weird questions: "do you think the thing taking them...likes watching them cry?"
jd just raises a brow and lights a cigarette. "you're killing me, hockstetter."
henry - the one who's terrified but won't admit it.
henry might act like he's not scared, but he is. deep down, he knows something's not right in derry, and the disappearances are waking up old fears. stuff about his mom. about the voices. about the shadows that move when he's alone.
he lashes out harder. beats kids up for looking at him. lights things on fire.
he knows people suspect him. he likes it. it makes him feel powerful. but it also isolates him.
he clings to billy, jd, and patrick more than ever. not obviously, just always being near them, always showing up.
if someone goes missing after he talks to them, he starts to wonder if he did it, in some indirect, cosmic way. he stops sleeping. he starts carrying a knife just in case.

She wants to be relevant. So, she needs to make the trial and the PR stunt big things. And Henry Cavill is being of great help. The trial is now, just a clickbait promoting her name. This woman was nothing, but a big inconvenience. But, apparently, Henry Cavill doesn't agree with that. He proudly and a few times, insisted on kissing her publicly to show his support for her, also declaring he was "proud of being her man". So, she can be the worst. He doesn't care. It's a job and she might be a "colleague" of a fake plot - Now, an endless PR stunt as damage control, a lie he will have to carry with him forever. He doesn't care if her rep jeopardizes his integrity. The problem is he depends on it to make a living. Actors without fans' support are invisible.
When is Henry Cavill going to realize people are not jealous of Natalie? What would people be jealous of? A promiscuous unknown with no talent nor professional skills rather than being on her knees, dating an idiotic shallow man, with no self-confidence, no emotional intelligence and arrogant enough to think people are mad, because they can't have him? There's nothing to be jealous of. Natalie is just the pitiful next in line (Who will be present for a long time helping him to stick to the lie of the fake paternity). People are mad, because he surprised his fandom by teasing them to exhaustion with lies and hypocrisy, while exposing a woman to public humiliation and using immoral management strategies as damage control on this dirty PR stunt.
He was first, criticized by a TV host on National TV. And fans just gave their opinion on it. And he didn't like it. The criticism wasn't addressed to his most recent PR, wrongly chosen to boost his image or intentionally, chosen to screw him. This response from fandom to his fake dates always happened, it wasn't a big deal and he always expected it. The fact is, this time, he wasn't counting that the PR's promiscuous rep would screw his perfect prince image. So, they both decided to tease the fandom, putting fuel to fire to have others to blame to send a message they didn't care, when they were both actually ashamed of themselves. The criticism was on YOU, Henry, who tried to make your fandom accountable for your stupidity by criticizing them with your "enlightened" speech, because they called you out for selling them lies.
The criticism was addressed to YOUR Character, hypocrisy and lack of courage; to YOUR management team, to the immoral strategies used in the immoral plot they put you in and to the role YOU accepted in this circus, while "following the lead". It was addressed to YOUR arrogance, while considering yourself a superior being, above criticism. Who do you think you are, Mr. Cavill? God? Just because of fame? Please, give me a break! Fame doesn't make you free of criticism nor perfect or above immorality. It only gives you a fake shield and a God complex, which was surely, pumped to the highest levels in YOUR case, who used a poor, mentally ill redneck to be that shield.
YOU threw a woman under the bus and used her to defend yourself from the criticism you had for being a dude. You never faced the consequences of YOUR decisions and choices, but used a circus to escape from it exposing a woman to public execration, while hiding behind her pregnancy and a fake paternity plot. What an example of gentlemanly! A pitiful, mentally ill and gulable-for-attention promiscuous, "dating" a gorgeous, hot, sweet, but pathetic dude. Man! It's not only a brilliant couple. It's the f**king perfect and pathetic match! I wish both the best and a long living marriage. Oh! Wait! There's still no public marriage, despite "proud of being her man" and having her, "his" baby, while execrated for him.
Hum... 🤔 Henry Cavill, YOU owe Natalie Viscuso a marriage. What is it? Aren't you "proud of being her man"? So, put a ring on it, include her in your family core and give her your family name, will you? It's the least your promiscuous deserves. Not a fake, but real marriage. If you guys aren't married yet, using this circus to announce this engagement.

so i don't know your general familiarity with ABC's Once Upon a Time but we were talking about it on here earlier so i wanted to offer a brief (lord willing) explanation of the timeline and relationships bc it's a hot mess!
i've used yellow to divide the major characters into two main "generations" based on who we see interact and when but there's some caveats. as you can see, hook, milah, and rumple were all contemporaries but rumple became immortal and hook went to neverland so they never aged after their first appearances. baelfire/neal, who as rumple and milah's son would be the generation immediately after them, also went to neverland and didn't age except he was still a kid (that's important for later).
its unclear how much time passes before cora appears but like i said, immortal or in neverland, and for transparency's sake i had to include rumple and cora's relationship, which is the miller's daughter spinning straw into gold story that most people associate rumplestiltskin with. anyway, that relationship doesn't work out and cora marries and has regina, the evil queen who becomes snow white's stepmother but i put snow and regina in the same generation because just trust me okay, i don't have time to explain, just trust me that we're meant to interpret them as closer to peers than mother-daughter.
belle is in gen 2 because while she doesn't meet snow or charming personally before the show's present, rumple mentions her to charming and regina kidnaps belle and holds her prisoner for a while. so yes, rumplestiltskin is Chronologically older than belle and most of the main cast except for hook, but more accurately he's eternally Father of a 13 y/o Aged, and belle, who was old enough to be engaged to gaston at the time of meeting rumple, is into that.
everyone who isn't in neverland (or wonderland, long story) gets frozen in time for 28 years Per The Plot and baelfire returns from neverland, still a teenager, in time to take on the identity of neal cassidy and meet main character emma! they have a tryst as teenagers (emma confirmed to be 18) that results in henry. we don't know neal's exact age at the time, but their actors are almost the same age (one year apart) so neal was most likely 18 or 19 physically.
the end result is that when time starts moving again, emma is 28, henry is 10, and everyone else appears to be Around Emma's Age (she says as much in season 2) or in rumple's case a bit older but not as old as you'd expect because neal/baelfire aged a bit without rumple aging.
i say all this because i need people to know that its not worth talking shit about age gaps in OUAT since hook is literally from the same generation as rumple and OLDER THAN BAELFIRE but no one has any problems with him and emma because they think his actor is attractive. thank you for your time, madie, this is something i'm very passionate about ;0;
"28 years Per The Plot" made me laugh so much help!!!! this is so fun, thank you so much for the info-dump <3 this lowkey (highkey) makes me want to watch the show although it does seem very chaotic

Okay it's 5am, I've wrecked my sleep schedule and I prommy I am for real going to bed after this.
But it's weird to me the number of people, usually neurodivergent themselves, who've been like "Graham Kennedy died in 2005, you're gonna run out of things to consume and you're gonna get bored" and it's like. Graeme Blundell spent ten whole years researching Graham Kennedy, his book has over 35 pages of citation and he watched hundreds of hours of footage, and then when he wrote his biography on Bert Newton, he included even more new information on Kennedy so like, he certainly didn't run out of stuff.
Sure, your exposure to Graham Kennedy might be, at best, a few episodes of Blankety Blanks and a best of IMT compilation you saw on telly once, but I'm constantly finding new things. This man was the most influential figure in 20th century Australian television, there's so much about him, there's so much I still haven't watched or read or listened to (I still haven't listened to a full episode of Nicky and Graham, I still haven't gotten the nerve to watch his funeral, I still haven't read the Henry Gay book of letters. Hell, I still haven't watched The Killing Fields and I know he's in it for like 15 whole minutes looking hot and middle aged with a salt and pepper beard, so you think I would've jumped on that). I literally want to go to Canberra this year just so I can access files stored at the NFSA and the National Library.
Just because YOU are intellectually incurious about your hyperfixations or special interests doesn't mean I am. I don't need information handed to me on a platter when I can go and seek it out.
"It's not gonna last long" it's been over a year now with no signs of abating sooooo.

Funny Story by Emily Henry - Review
TL;DR:
3.7 Stars
Pros: Characters, dialogue/chemistry, and comforting plot
Cons: Too long, out-of-pocket comment, and a personal pet peeve
Opinions going in:
I've read and loved Book Lovers by the same author, and I knew the whole "Roommates with my ex-fiancé's new fiancée's ex-boyfriend" premise, but other than that I went in blind.
What made me actually pick it up though was 2 things: 1)I'm in a bit of a slump and needed something light/silly/goofy/simple and 2) My hold on this eBook became available at my local library
Likes:
The characters were all super fun and real to me, if a little too emotionally intelligent. Their various personalities were different enough that they all felt distinct and yet still similar enough that they still had chemistry.
A speaking of chemistry -- Oh my Lord did Daphne and Miles have chemistry. While it didn't make me laugh as much as Book Lovers did, I still loved all of their banter and back-and-forth. Not to mention how their cuteness and care for one another was so sweet. There were so many times that I was smiling on the train to and from work like an absolute idiot.
The plot was very straight forward/simple/predictable, but that's what I needed at the time and one of my main motivating factors when I pick up a contemporary romance, so complaints from me.
Dislikes:
This was one singular line that really isn't that bad it just stuck out to me. At one point in the book, fairly late into the romance, Daphne is very upset about something and Miles is trying to console her. He's being super sweet and supportive then out of no-where goes:
"And you're also hot, if that helps."
And like..? I don't know if he was trying to make her laugh, ease the tension, or what, but it was so out of left field for the moment. It's like 'Oh you're upset? that's okay, you'll get through this, is there anything I can do to help, your feelings are valid, also you're sexy as fuck haha'
And just??? Again, one singular line, so not that impactful for my final score, just very odd to me.
Another not-super-impactful dislike, but I am so tired of characters who have some relation to/career in books/literature/publishing. If you expand this net to also include characters who just like to read/are a reader, then it happens more often than not.
This is a completely personal (and probably unpopular) opinion and does not make a book 'bad' by any means. I understand 100% why this is common: authors are often given the advice to write what they know and its an easy way to get your audience to connect with the character, etc, etc. -- It just personally doesn't work for me.
I will probably make a longer post about this pet peeve of mine in the future, but I'll stop there for now.
In a similar vein, any time an author puts in a line about how "books let me escape" or "reading lets me live so many lives" I just cringe at how trite it sounds 95% of the time -- this books instances included.
My biggest complaint: This book needed to be at least 50 pages shorter. Even though I was actively enjoying it, I got to the end of a chapter, saw I was at page 301, and was baffled that there were 80+ pages left.
Like I said before, I did like all of the characters, but I still think that one of the side characters should have been cut. They all serve a purpose in the story, so I understand why they are all there, but it was harming the pacing.
Rating Breakdown:
The rating system I am going to use is based on Book Roast's CAWPILE system -- you can learn more about it on their channel. The only change is that I added dialogue as a separate category from writing.
Total: 7.4/10 or 3.7 stars
Characters: 8
Atmosphere: 6
Writing: 6
Plot:5
Intrigue: 7
Logic:6
Enjoyment: 5
Dialogue: 9

Updated Review On Dante/Nicola/Yang Piofiore Fated Memories
Includes Spoilers
I am going to start by linking all my original reviews of these characters. My newest one for Orlok was made after doing all his routes and I will do the same for both Henri and Gilbert too. These 3 though I went back and cleared their whole story good, bad, tragic.
Nicola Original Review
Yang Original Review
Dante Original Review
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dante Falzone
So I told myself I would never go back and dow th bad routes for Dante but after playing Orlok's bad route and finding Dante in a cold manner although I totally understood why made me want to do his route in all ways. I'm really glad I did because I think when you do all the routes you learn a bit more about the character. Like I knew that Dante loved Nicola like a brother but in the other routes you see how it breaks him when he has to kill him to try to save Liliana. Orlok's route you saw him become over the top cold and even though I would say he assaulted her he didn't do it like Nicola like its weird but even in Dante's cold moments he is never fully cold. I love you find out in one of his routes that he knew about Liliana since he was a kid and always wanted to know her. Its like he is admitting to having a crush on her but staying away to prevent her path from being altered because who he was. Makes you kind of wonder if they had been together as kids if have the blood shed would have happened.
Tumblr media
Then when he admits that he has been a mafia boss so long that he needed to realize that Liliana was more important to him than anything or anyone. I love how he came to the idea of this. Unlike the best ending route you see other softer sides of Dante in his other routes that really needed to be seen. If anything I think I fell in love with this man even more now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tragic route where Liliana gets shot and goes into a coma never to come out. This scene broke me he literally talks about books he bought her even one of sleeping beauty. Then he questions if he kisses her will she wake up too. He comes to her everyday and talks to her and turns to her because he already had to kill Nicola in this route so she is all he has but he refuses to give up on her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly after seeing all the sides if Dante I say he is still not only my favorite character from the game but to me all the sides of him you see are all what makes him a genuine character and the most realistic to me of all of them. His world is built on family, loyalty, and trust. He is a honorable man who doesn't kill for fun but to protect the city and the people he loves. He may be a mafia boss but his heart is way purer than that. Yes he has blood on his hands and yes he can be cold when he loses everyone but like they say a person who has nothing to lose is the most dangerous. I will say what I love about him though is after seeing him lose Nicola and it break him it never made him the monster that I feel like Nicola can become.
Tumblr media
Also very hot scene with Dante one of my favorites he admits to loving her for her not because she was the key maiden or that he was told he would have to one day protect her but because she was who she was.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nicola Francesca
I loved his best ending it was sweet and I will even say one of his others is where him and Liliana have to run away together and travel because since he had originally turned against the Falzone's and betrayed them there was no where left for him but being on the run. It was a sweet ending that they were together and seemed happy.
Tumblr media
This was so cute that he said he was there to abduct her so they could run away together however once you play his tragic route this line becomes super creepy instead of cute.
Tumblr media
This video shows how he broke at Dante's funeral and you honestly think he is just upset and needs her the way Dante needs her when Nicola dies but no he goes through this scene that literally had me in tears to the monster he becomes later after this.
These show how he flipped after the funeral and how his intentions to rape her starts. Of course Liliana sees it as he is broken and can't deal with more pain so even though she tells him no and stop and he doesn't care she gives in letting him rape her every day. It doesn't fully show anything like after this chat it doesn't even show him but talks from her point saying he tears open her blouse etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the part that sickened me. After him losing Dante and acting like his world was broken and he was afraid of losing Liliana he turned into a monster. He raped her everyday and locked her in her room. He threatened anyone's lives that talked to her so she lived alone in that room until he would come back to her and when he would he would buy her pretty dresses she could never wear outside that room. She became is bird in a cage as she says.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yang
So I didn't care for him in the best route but I will say this mother fucker had me snowed. In his other routes I actually liked Yang which surprised me, but in the end I went back to hating him at least in every route but one. So this route irritated me the tragic one he becomes this different man like he is loving and stuff. Even the way he kisses her makes you feel like oh my god Yang has a heart and he loves her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You continue to see his sweet moments he talks about coming all the way to the Falzone's house where she is being kept just to come look upon her cause he misses her. He talks about coming back for her once he gets things safe for her. Its a vulnerable moment that makes you feel something for Yang and love how he has grown as a person, he even admits to changing for the better because of her.
Tumblr media
after said and done you really think even with the way he tells Dante he cares about her to turn around and blind side her by asking for a favor then grabbing her and throwing her at Dante. Of course Dante never wanted to hurt her so when Yang pushes him towards him he goes to grab her and Yang shoves his sword through both Liliana and Dante letting them die together. The irony that they are the ones that you can feel should have been together all along anyways. That moment I hated Yang then he even says he wouldn't drink poison for her. That is because she read a book of romeo and juliet to him and she talked about it was romantic how the guy took poison to be with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly after the shitty tragic ending I have to agree with Dante in this next image 1000% Yang really is a monster and its like he has no fucking heart in most his routes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then on another route he tells Gil when he is fighting he won't die for a woman but then steps in front of Liliana and gets killed. Its the only route where he was still a ass yet you could still see he cared more. Then out of all the last things he could say he embraced his stupid Yang moment and says he wishes he could have played with her longer. She is so broken after he died in her arms its honestly pretty sad she goes back to the church and mourns him the rest of her life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I never in a million years would have thought this scene would have been there for 2 reasons. One its not like Liliana he was going into a fight the next day so she wanted to sleep with him and she openly admits it. I just was surprised he wasn't in the mood he says its like when is he not in the mood. I feel like this man is always horny so this part caught me off guard. However if you let it play out you realize its not about not being in the mood its more about he is a dominant man and he needs to want her when he wants her or it just won't work.
Tumblr media
All in all Yang pissed me off yet again he had one redeeming quality and he died with it in that route so as long as that man lives he is a lying, cheating, snake in the grass with no honor, no loyalty or respect. I guess its why I love the Falzone's the most because least they have those things.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my ending review of this is play all the routes of each character I promise its worth it. They may not always be the most pleasant and trust me last 2 days I have been in tears alot because of these routes however I feel like I even have a better grasp on every one of them and who they are as well as what breaks them and sends them over the edge. I may not always like their endings however when things happen in our lives that break us we may not always be the person we were before. I have been through alot in my life and I can say for sure thats what makes it realistic they did a great job story telling. If you have yet to play all the routes or at all you should put it on your lists of games to buy. Even though I'm a rape victim nothing stood out that triggered anything. I mean Nicola's bed scene at the end was probably the worst of it for me, outside that you never actually see anything.

Sam Claflin + well developed female characters
I once posted a list of Sam's female-directed films [x], but as @jesstasticvoyage points out, it's also true that a lot of stuff he stars in features well developed female characters (I'm kinda tired of the "strong female character" phrase, so using this one instead). So, let's have a look at them.
The Hunger Games series (dir Francis Lawrence) - still the most obvious example for Sam as a role he's known for, and the purpose of this post. It's safe to say most people know Katniss Everdeen.
Their Finest (dir Lone Scherfig) - Gemma Arterton's character, Catrin, is an aspiring screenwriter hired to work on a script for a film about Dunkirk evacuation--this is a movie about a movie set during WW2. Sam is a fellow writer, in fact he is the one who discovered her. It's funny bc this takes place in 1940s and she gets the job of writing female characters, when even in our times we don't always have that. Worth noting is also Rachael Stirling's Phyl, a minor character but memorable and a lesbian--who doesn't die at the end. It's the straight relationship that gets treated like bury your gays trope this time!
The Nightingale (dir Jennifer Kent) - also known as the film in which Sam plays an absolute monster (you think Billy Dunne is bad, lol). The film centres on young convict Claire (Aisling Franciosi) seeking revenge for the indescribable harm done to her family. Basically, trigger warning for everything.
My Cousin Rachel (dir Roger Michell) - adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novel. Sam plays Philip, the narrator, but Rachel is so intriguing, the whole story is named for her. She's played by her namesake, Rachel Weisz. There's also Louise (Holliday Granger), Philip's childhood friend. She's the relatable, girl next door type, but she is smart, in fact I think she is the one with the most braincells. (Also I have a theory about her, I think this version of Louise has a darker side!)
Enola Holmes (dir Harry Bradbeer) - title speaks for itself. Enola's mother is missing and the teenage heroine goes on a quest to find her and thus becomes a detective herself. Sam plays Mycroft, the eldest Holmes sibling, though he's far removed from the original Mycroft Holmes of Arthur Conan Doyle's books. Edith, who runs a teashop, is another notable female character.
Adrift (dir Baltasar Kormakur) - based on a true story of Tami Oldham, an amateur sailor, surviving 41 days adrift on the Pacific Ocean after a hurricane. Sam plays her bf Richard. Shailene Woodley has the role of Tami and is also the film's producer.
Riot Club (dir Lone Scherfig) - okay so what's this doing here, you ask, it's a film about an all-male elite club at Oxford. Yes but that's exactly the point, bc even though it is about an all male club, the female characters are surprisingly well developed. The play this is adapted from, Posh, was written by Laura Wade and the director is also a woman, so maybe it's not so surprising. We have Holliday Granger who plays the gf of one of the boys and Jessica Brown Findlay in the role of the pub landlord's daughter. Holliday's character certainly doesn't take any shit from the posh boys. Even Natalie Dormer in the role of a sex worker has enough self-respect to refuse their deranged requests, despite the amount of money it would earn her. Hence I include it on the list.
Charlie's Angels (dir Elizabeth Banks) - title speaking for itself, yet again. Sam's role is relatively minor.
Book of Love (dir Analeine Cal y Mayor) - a romcom. When Maria, played by Veronica Echegui, translates Henry's (Sam) unsuccessful book from English to Spanish, the book becomes a huge hit in Mexico. Turns out that while translating, she inserted some seriously hot steamy scenes. Sam travels to Mexico for promotion and the two of them now have to work together on the next book. So without Maria, the story would not exist and also, once Henry accepts the situation, he is happy to collaborate with her--and at the end, supports her in her own writing efforts. (If you can get round the premise, it is an enjoyable film.)
Daisy Jones and the Six - mini series based on a book of the same name. We have not one, not two, not three, but four amazing ladies to root for: Daisy, Camila, Karen and Simone. While Sam gives performance of a lifetime as the band's frontman Billy Dunne.
Other Notes:
Honourable mentions are Snow White (Kristen Stewart) in Snow White and the Huntsman, a film I have a definite soft spot for though there's many ways it could have been better. In The Corrupted Sam plays a convict who just got out of prison and reunites with his gf and son. The gf is played by Naomi Ackie. She's wary at first but does allow him back into her life and they get back together and raise their son. Unsure if another one of my faves, Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides apply. Sam's romance with the mermaid Syrena is my absolute favourite of his. She might seem helpless for majority of her screentime, bc she gets captured, turns human on dry land and is unable to walk as she's not used to having legs, Philip (Sam's character) has to carry her. But she was the one who saved him first. And POTC overall is not without good female characters.

Chapter 21
Charlotte didn’t move. ‘There’s no one there now, silly, or George wouldn’t be there. He’s very stupid, but not that stupid.’ Leo kept his eyes on the tree. ‘George?’ ‘The caladrius.’ ‘The bird is called George?’
So far this chapter has mostly been a bit of a transitional breather. Rosamund is undergoing medical treatments and recovery, Robin has hunted down Baron Mabry and Leo has been managing events at the estate (including keeping Rosamund off her feet).
I find this quote particularly funny though. The fact that Caroline's real world enemy made it into the book as the name of a particularly stupid caladrius bird is very amusing I'm.
Eventually the Queen leaves bringing the almost assassin and Baron Mabry with her. Between the continued medicine and the lessening of tension declares herself feeling much better, leading to this wonderful line.
‘I feel much better today.’ Leo raised his eyebrows. ‘Should I padlock my horse, or will you promise to behave yourself?’
Who knew Leo had such a great sense of humor? He doesn't take things seriously (which makes him a good match for Rosamund) but I'm glad he can loosen up as well.
no horse riding, running, lifting, or . . .’ Leo stopped, an awkward look crossing his face. ‘Or what?’ Charlotte piped up. The grin Rosamund flashed him was wicked. ‘Yes, Leo. Or what?’ ‘Err . . . working too hard.’
Rosamund! I can't believe that now when your children are watching is when you chose to flirt and practically dare Leo to try to use a clever euphemism. At any rate, Rosamund is slowly able to do more and is brought down 9ut of bed for part of the day to address security measures. This is enough to wear her out in her still fragile state.
She nodded, and when he lifted her from her seat, she rested her head on his chest like she had the night of the fire. On our wedding night. Not that he was thinking about their wedding night at this moment. Well. Maybe.
Leo! Thinking about what could have happened that night maybe? 😏 Regardless, he puts Rosamund to bed (by herself) and goes with Charlotte to be introduced to the caladrius birds.
Back in Caroline's world, George got arrested! There wasn't really any info about what he was specifically into, barring sketchy downloads, but its still nice to see him taken away and the CEO pleased at Caroline for a job well done.
We find out Baron Mabry's lost of crimes is long indeed and that Hawkhurst is no longer under his authority, but under the Collins viscountcy. Woot!
‘Rosamund, this is wonderful! Even if he avoids execution, Mabry no longer holds your fealty. You’re free.
We have an almost heartbreaking moment when Leo realizes that Rosamund doesn't need him anymore and offers to leave. Its what she wanted for so long, to be left alone with her children and knowing her family will be safe. Its such a relief to hear her say
‘Stay,’ she whispered. Then, more strongly, ‘Please.’
So sweet. Of course Caroline thinks that should have been a big love declaration and pops in to say so. What she doesn't expect to so be lectured by Rosamund about not going for it with Henry the Hot Editor!
‘I think that maybe the reason you made me so insanely decisive is that you’re afraid to make decisions in your own life. But I am you, Caroline. At least a little bit. Trust yourself.
Caroline ends up on a work call with Henry and I'm rooting for her.
Caroline braced herself. What would Rosamund do? Nothing that would work in this situation, she concluded wryly. The real question was: what was she going to do?
Come on, you can do it.....and she does and it works! I do think its very funny though that her excuse of being in the area ti visit family was not in fact true until she arranged it afterwards.

My thoughts on RWRB, in no particular order because my brain doesn't work like that:
SPOILERS AHEAD
These are my opinions/thoughts after the first watch through (of course I'm gonna re-watch several times) but don't be mad at me please I'm sensitive
Things I loved
I spent the first full hour smiling and laughing. It put the Com in Romcom. And then the lake scene plunged me into a pit of despair, but in a good way.
Alex was Alex and Henry and was Henry. Like Nick and Taylor really got their characters and did them so much justice and the chemistry was chemistry-ing
Miguel! He was fun and flirty. I wasn't expecting him at all but I think his addition really worked for two reasons: it saved Alex time in figuring out his sexuality so we get ahead into him + Henry, and it gave an explanation for the leaking of the emails without being as politically charged as in the book, because some people, especially if they're not American, don't care about that part as much
Amy is so fucking funny
Zahra is even more funny
Casting! Pez was perfect! Philip was amazing! Papa Diaz delivered the dad vibes for sure. I wish Bea had more screen time. Shaan was good (and very handsome) And don't get me started on UMA FUCKING THERMAN!!
I know we'd have preferred to have both June and Nora but I think that for the purpose she served to the plot just Nora was fine. Movie!Nora was a combination of book!Nora and June. It worked.
GET LOW GET LOW GET LOW
Henry pretending to look for a book when Amy comes into the red room absolutely killeddddd me
Ellen talking about getting Alex on Truvada. Real AF.
Henry doing karaoke!
"I thought Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz was a mouthful." "He is."
"Shut up stop talking" and "You're late", followed by him trying to close the door
The texting/messaging and emails. They included enough for you to get the idea and to show the passage of time and they did in a cool way that didn't take too much of the screen time. Also Henry being "in the room" when they're on the phone was so cute!
Alex being nervous and awkward about having sex with Henry was perfect! It felt very real
Criticisms:
Henry going to fidget with his ring, realizing Alex is wearing it, and that little smile at each other. Fucking beautiful
Alex reading OLS
I wanted Henry singing God save the King
We didn't get to see Catherine? But at least she didn't get Juned.
No powerpoint??? Even though Ellen giving him the talk was plenty funny.
Fucking eyelashes! Miguel mentioned them, but I don't think Herny did? Why notttt??
Random but I would have rather had the conversation in the tack room than the whole polo mantage. We get it, he's hot.
Leo?!? I knew June wasn't there but his parents still being together was so random to me? Not necessarily bad just random.
I really wanted to see Alex standing in the rain...also the dialog there kinda threw me off? Like I know it was heartfelt and emotional or whatever but the "and I'll bother you no longer" part didn't feel like that version of Alex. Kinda took me out of the moment.
Maybe I just wanted more Stephen Fry, but that resolution was a little too easy/cheesy
Idk if it was my ADHD or Taylor's pronunciation but I had to turn on the subtitles because I kept not understanding him?
Questions:
Did they have to change Henry's name? Like bc of the actual royal family?
Can the presidents spouse still have a seat in Congress? Is that allowed?

Headcanon dump time because I have Mrs. Em.ily brainrot!!!
born in fredonia, arizona, which is not only extremely close to the utah-arizona border, but also right near the grand canyon and many other parks and such
her parents spent a lot of time traveling after moving to america and settled on this town because they are very outdoorsy people and the area charmed them
yes, as a consequence, julianna and her sisters are very outdoorsy too. anna in particular loves to go camping and enjoys visiting natural monuments and national / state parks. she absolutely will insist on taking henry and charlie ( and the af.tons too! ) to see the sights near her hometown
while anna's parents did give their kids anglicized names ( her sister's names are kathleen and marilyn ), they all have chinese middle names and anna is quiet fond of hers ( chán juān ( 婵娟 ) )
yes, i heavily headcanon that henry calls her by her middle name often once she tells him this <3
julianna is pronounced joo-lee-ahn-a. anna is pronounced ah-na. yes, she will correct someone if they say either the other way lmao
she stays in contact with her extended family in china, although she doesn't get to visit until she's in her 30s
she is the middle sister, with kat being older and lyn being younger. they are each two years apart. she is super close to her sisters
honestly very close to her whole family. i have to let at least one fn.af muse have a happy childhood alright.
works as a manager in a bookstore and is a very, very avid reader. definitely meets henry there as a default ( but obviously i'm open to alternatives! )
loves hot drinks!! big tea and coffee drinker, but also always down for hot chocolate in the colder months
( going to use elise by default when talking abt mrs. af.ton so i don't have to censor it 30000 times but understand that this is all open to any mrs. af.ton lmao )
meets elise after elise in particular insists on a double date when she hears henry is dating someone. yes i think a double date with these four ppl is SO funny. it's incredibly awkward but elise and anna hit it off.
lbr she's so head-over-heels for henry and she's very much like. a believer in soulmates and similar. so, when she falls, she falls hard
honestly: her and henry as a perfect example of two people who are incredibly in love but just, like. . . not meant to be together long-term. i mean obv i'm open to there being Problems beyond that ( up to and including either charlie's death ending the marriage or just william's dumb ass ), but i do lean toward "they were never going to be satisfied long term"
literally charlie is the light of her life. yes, her death does absolutely destroy anna.
charlie was very much planned. anna initially had a little difficulty getting pregnant, but it worked out. she'd always wanted 1-2 kids, though they either never get around to trying again or she simply doesn't get pregnant again prior to the divorce
post-divorce, anna and henry honestly have like. a healthy relationship. the love never goes away, but they do a good job sharing custody and she'd genuinely still consider him a friend
would she ever be willing to give their relationship a try again? after charlie, it's possible. . . but unlikely to work out
definitely an introvert but you can't tell. she's not shy or socially anxious at all, just enjoys her alone time
can and would kill william with her bare hands if she knew what he had done. like yeah okay henry's grieving, but so is anna and she'd kill the motherfucker
( would she join henry in his Crusade that leads to fn.af6 if he actually told her abt it? . . . debatable. possibly, but she's also very, very, very tired by that point. if she knew about charlie / the puppet however? absolutely )
she is fluent in mandarin chinese
loves to bake and is very good at it!
dreams of both opening her own business and writing novels
i just love her sm you guys—

Can you tell us a little bit more about Henrietta, Emma, Jensen and Benjamin please?
Absolutely! We'll do some fall tidbits sprinkled in to go with the season :)
Details below the cut!
Tumblr media
Henrietta loves cold drinks even during the coldest days. But not iced coffee, no no. Henri became obsessed with energy drinks when she was about 8 years old. Ever since, they're the easiest way to bribe her to do the stupidest things. Someone once tried bribing her with hot cider and instead, it was dunked on their head and she stole the energy drink sticking out of the kid's pocket. She was 9.
Henri also loves collecting leaves. Doesn't matter the shape or size, but the color has to be red, orange, or yellow. She's stuffed six books with the ones she's collected over the years.
Henri's favorite thing about earth and visiting her mom is the changing seasons. Asgard is usually warm with perfect weather and perfect seasons. Unless she's visiting a frozen tundra of a world, she doesn't really get to experience otherwise. So it became a tradition for her and her mom to spend fall and winter together on earth so she could experience it.
Henri's face paint that she wears during her fights was actually designed after a bonfire with her family. She got into the ash and painted her face and...well, the look stuck.
Tumblr media
Emma has a playlist designed for Halloween, Thanksgiving, the Christmas, and New Years. But they're not the typical "holiday" music playlists that you would expect. It's types of music that she associates with the experience of those seasons, those days, those memories. Her favorite playlist is the Thanksgiving one because she's done more friends-giving experiences than anything else. And Emma is a sucker for her friends.
As Queen of Asgard, Emma made a point to bring traditions from other universes/planets/cultures to Asgard. Fall Festivals from Earth, Mating Rituals from the Shi'ar, Birth Celebrations from Xandar - anything that she found could help advance Asgard's understanding of the universe, she brought to it. This included chips, soda, and dip from earth... (Girl has cravings!)
Emma is always bubbly and happy, so when that switch flips, everyone knows to take a step back. There's a very well known memory throughout Asgard of when the sky lit up with lightning. No other source of light in sight. Children refer to it as the day the sky cracked. Gorr had dared to show up after having killed her mother, seeking help for his daughter. And Emma had to make a choice whether she would take revenge or not.
She has a soft spot for her Earth-friend Regina. She's brought her to visit Asgard many times and loves every visit. She just wishes they could have video game marathons on Asgard too.
Tumblr media
Jensen hates how obsessed with winter Jorund is. It's a joke that because he's half Jotun, it's only natural that he likes the cold. But Jensen remembers pumpkin carvings and apple cider and early Christmas shopping. He remembers dressing up Lucky in Halloween costumes. The idea of his brother experiencing similar memories with the same mother, but for winter? It's a sore spot. Still...he likes the memory of Jorund getting nailed with a snowball in the face. He couldn't deny how funny that was.
He is the "older brother" of the group. Very protective of friends because he can't stand the thought of letting them go. That's why he has such a hard time with Jorund's role in his life. Technically...it makes him the little brother. And that just won't do.
Jensen loves weird socks. The brighter, the more colorful, and random? The better. And it's the BEST if they mismatch. He's worn an ankle sock covered in tacos on one foot and the other had a knee high sock covered in flying unicorns. When asked about it, he offered for the person to wear the other two so they could match.
Jensen likes pumpkin spice lattes. No, no one knows. And yes, he will die before letting Jorund find out.
Tumblr media
Benji likes creating his own Halloween decorations because the basics simply aren't freaky enough to scare his teammates. And what's the point of decorating for Halloween if no one is going to get freaked out? (It's created QUITE a few stories and he has several polaroid pictures for proof)
Benji misses Mila a lot. He wishes they got a genuine second chance to do things right, but knows that will probably never happen. Still, he hopes that she gets everything she's ever wished for in life.
Benji has mommy issues. It's not intentional, it's just that she wasn't always there. He doesn't know her and isn't familiar with what it's like to have that sort of person in your life. It's one of the reasons he'd like to have a "whole" family some day. He forgets that it isn't always blood that makes the family.
Benji actually likes bitter over sweet. He's not a big fan of hot cocoa or fancy lattes that make your teeth hurt because they're so sweet. It was actually one of his teammates that introduced him to a latte that had dark chocolate and cayenne pepper in it of all things. And with an extra shot of espresso, it became a go to drink for him.
THANK YOU for asking about my babies!!! I hope you like these tidbits. :)

Your recent answered ask got me thinking... what are your thoughts on the family dynamic after Chair baby #2 arrives? (I have a soft spot for the HC that their second child is baby girl Grace 🥹) How do Blair and Chuck take having another baby, and do you think they'd have differences in their parenting if it's a girl? How is Henry as a big brother (omg), especially as they get older and into their rebellious teens?
hi!! omg I love this question tysm 🫶🏻🫶🏻 SO in my fic 525,000 (moments so dear) (which I am finishing sksfjksk ch 2 is coming soon) I'm gonna try to cover them discussing the changes of having a second child so some of this might be repeated there but I think they always wanted 2 children if they could bc they're both only children and they wouldn't want henry to feel alone. they'd be a lot more confident than they were with finding out about having henry bc they already know they can raise a wonderful child and they'd be less nervous about it.
in terms of their parenting dynamic I think they'd be fairly similar in how they treated henry as they wouldn't want him to feel jealous or anything as they grew up. I do think blair would be even more into matching outfits and co-ordination bc she can have matching hairbands and dresses with grace (grace eleanor bass my beloved 🤍). I also think she'd be v conscious of treating grace the way she wasn't treated as a little girl so no commenting on her appearance negatively or making her feel bad about herself, and she'd emphasise how much she loves her and how beautiful she is. chuck would probably be slightly more nervous having a girl bc like he doesn't wanna be an overprotective girl dad but also u mess with his little girl and ur out of ny!! but he tries not to go too stereotypical about it. I do think he'd be kinda different as a girl dad than a boy one bc he wants grace to feel like she can go to him too with stuff while also understanding how important it is for blair to have a strong relationship with her too (obviously this is the same for henry but blair understands how important it is for chuck to have a strong bond with him so they respect that about each others' parenting needs bc of their childhoods)
henry as a big brother is something I'm so excited to explore and write about 🥹 I think he'd be a good one first and foremost. my headcanon is that blair was pregnant at derena's wedding (I think it was also suggested by eric daman in his fashion book where he wrote about blair's dress possibly hiding a bump or that it was something they considered) so as henry's 3/almost 4 when grace would be born there's a good age gap for him not to be too jealous of a new baby and be more involved. when grace is still a baby he takes being a big brother v seriously to the point where he basically follows blair and chuck around to check that grace isn't too hot or cold and she's clean and comfortable. he definitely tries to play with her when she's still too small so it's like him driving his little cars around her play mat while she babbles and blair watches like a hawk so neither of them get hurt. as they get bigger I think henry would definitely be the kind of brother who includes grace in things, like playing basketball with chuck, and in turn he joins in with her tea parties. I also think they'd have their own l'il jokes and sibling things, and chuck and blair are so happy bc they never got anything like that.
when they're teenagers I imagine henry being a lot happier and less... chaotic than either of his parents were sksfjksk but he definitely has a l'il wild side and loves a party (but he's not into drugs or anything). grace is less obsessed with ruling constance than blair was, but she kinda ends up being v popular regardless. henry's definitely quite protective of her (and any other siblings he may have 👀) and helps with her homework if he can or helps her scheme against her classmates. I think they'd always be close though, and grace looks up to him and is proud to be his younger sister. of course they do argue like siblings do but it's kinda over silly stuff like they don't have huge fall outs or anything.
overall I think they'd be a happy family and having a second child would be so special for them (if ur interested my full hc is that they have 3 children eventually but baby 3 is a little less planned skafjhksk) like they'd feel more complete

My dad has been out of the picture. He was young when he had me and couldn't support us. I still love him and want to connect with him. He has a spouse, but I have not yet her met. In the next few years I suppose I will meet her. I'm open minded about it

I would do it all again just to keep him alive today. He would never know how much I suffer whenever he says that he is dating someone, but I would never have the courage to tell him that. I just want happiness for him.
She was honestly so venomous. I could never imagine a nine year old being just as horrible as she was back then, but I could not see it. And she still tries to reach out to me. She still tries to manipulate me. She still tries to ruin me, even when I've built this life.
I didn't want them to tell anyone that I was not okay.
Not being able to walk around a lot, and in my school it is a one person out policy. They just do not trust us. I miss going outside.

Drift Away, My Favorite Song
This is a bit of a departure from my usual posts, but I just want to gush for a bit about the history of my personal favorite song, Drift Away. I've loved this song ever since I was a kid, and now I'm rediscovering a love for it and its history.
I love this song's lyrics about being down and depressed but being willing to just let yourself go and be entranced by a song that can move your soul and lift your spirits. It helps that Drift Away, more than just being a song that tells you to let go, also has the rhythm and overall vibe to be the perfect song for that purpose. It's a song that feels like meditation, I always feel more relaxed and less tense after hearing it.
I don't fancy myself a music historian, most of this is just from the Wikipedia page, Google, and Youtube, so if anyone who knows more wants to chime in, feel free.
Drift Away was originally written in 1970 by Mentor Williams:

It was then performed for the first time by Mike Berry, in 1972:

I don't know if it's just the recording, but this isn't my favorite version. The electric guitar is peaking the speakers and it doesn't have the now-iconic intro riff.
Two months later, still 1972, it was performed by John Henry Kurtz:

This recording is cleaner, and the singing is more "yodel-y", which fits the vibe of the song but isn't my personal jam. It still doesn't have the intro riff.
One year later in 1973, it would be recorded by Dobie Gray, and it found its footing as a soul rock song:

This version introduces the intro riff and makes the song mellower, and it's one of my personal favorite versions. This version became an international hit, peaking at number 5 on the billboard hot 100.
Later the same year, in 1973, a country version would be recorded by Narvel Felts:

This version was a moderate success on the country charts, but I'm not really a fan. It changed the lyric "rock and roll" to "country song", which I'd be fine with if it didn't destroy the rhyme with "free my soul".
It's also more upbeat and bouncy, more of a dance song, which doesn't really fit the downbeat vibe of the lyrics. It also didn't use the intro riff.
In 1992, Micheal Bolton released a very different cover of Drift Away:

It's... pretty interesting. It's weird, that's for sure. It's twice as long, Bolton completely changes the cadence of how certain lines are sung, and he makes the song into more of an arena soft rock balled with a chorus singing behind him and everything. And no intro riff.
I don't hate it. I actually really like this version, it's just so different from every other version that it feels like a completely different song.
The most recent big cover (and probably the one you might have heard on the radio) was in 2003 by Uncle Kracker, featuring Dobie Gray (who did the soul version in 1973):

This is the version I heard first, and was most familiar with before this retrospective. Gray's involvement really helps elevate this version, paying homage to his version with a very similar style (including the riff). I also love the lyrical layering and backing between the two singers in the last quarter of the song.
In fact, it's interesting to look at this version in the context of the whole history of the song. Drift Away was originally penned by a white writer, found success 3 years later with a black singer, then 30 years later, a white singer collaborated with that same black singer to make the most well-known version nowadays.
There are dozens of other versions and covers of Drift Away throughout the years, these are just the major ones. If I missed any that you're particularly fond of, reblog with them, I'd love to listen to more versions of my favorite song.
