Is it possible for us to get an alternate ending to your Goodbye fic (the one where Pomni breaks Caine’s heart in two)?? Like maybe one where she decides to stay with Caine but then Caine hears about on the news of a missing woman and feels like he robbed Pomni of her humanity and tries to send her back but Pomni gets upset thinking he doesn’t want her anymore and in the end the game gets shut down because of Pomni being sucked into the game the two reconcile and get shut down within the game together??
A/N:ooh....what a rollercoaster
DON'T SAY GOODBYE
A TRAGIC SHOWTIME ONESHOT
The original
WARNING: HEAVY angst, hurt/some comfort, main character death, estranged family drama, VERY real (you'll see what I mean)
~~~
Caine held Pomni's hands, looking into her eyes intensely. "I figured out how to permanently transfer and integrate human consciousness into the code."
Pomni's jaw fell open. "You-...you've what?"
"I've figured out how to make your life here permanent. I know it's a lot, and I understand if you need time to think about it or even outright refuse, but... I want you to stay with me forever." Caine's code spiraled with anxiety. Now that he said it out loud to her, it sounds insane.
She had to know. "What would happen to my real body?"
"You wouldn't need it anymore, and while I don't fully understand how anatomy works... I can only imagine that without your consciousness, your body would...uh-"
"Die." Pomni said in a flat, sobering tone. She looked down, weighing her options.
Caine cringed. "Yeah...like I said, I understand if-"
"Yes." She squeezed Caine's hands.
He gasps. "Are you sure? Maybe you should take some time to think about it or- or sleep on it or-"
Pomni looked him in the eye, a determined look on her face. "I don't need to think about it. Life's made the decision for me. Caine... There's a lot I haven't told you about my life outside the game, because I'd rather not think about it, but... You're really all I have."
"Pomni..." He gently cupped her cheek. "If this will make you happy, I will do it. I love you."
Pomni felt like she was realizing his feelings for her for the first time. He cared. He truly actually cared about her, unlike everyone else in her life. This was her chance to start again, in a new world, a better world. She leaned into his touch. "I want to stay with you. Forever. Do it."
"Are you absolutely sure?"
"Yes. I love you, Caine. You've come to matter more to me than anything or anyone else on the other side. I...I have no one else in my life that cares. I'll stay." Pomni put her hand on his against her cheek.
She had him at "I love you." He kissed her sweetly, reassuring her that he would be by her side for the rest of their digital lives. "This won't hurt at all." He snapped his fingers and they both teleported to the game's mainframe.
Code swirled around them. Rows upon rows of coded game commands flowed like water. He placed a hand on her chest, over her heart, and pulled. A string of code came from her and he summoned code from the cascade around them. He connected the pieces, weaving them together like yarn.
Pomni felt very strange, like her very soul was made of static. Then something popped in the back of her mind. She felt like she was free floating through space, and Caine was there to catch her. More code connected to her heart as he held her close.
"Breathe..." He whispered.
She took a deep breath of what felt like real air for the first time in this digital space. She felt corporeal and incorporeal at the same time. She only saw letters and numbers as her consciousness solidified within the matrix. "Caine..?"
"I'm here. You're safe."
The code disconnected from Pomni's body and her vision cleared. She still felt disoriented and weightless. She clung to Caine, he never felt so real. Not cartoonish and digital, real. The fabric of his clothes scrunched in her grip. His hold on her felt as human as one could ever experience. "Is it over?"
"Yes, my dear. You're like me now. Welcome home." He spoke in a soothing tone.
She smiled, tears coming to her eyes, and kissed him.
~
For a time, it was paradise.
Pomni really was like Caine now, holding a certain level of command over the game. She could fly and teleport like him. Even help players if she wanted, being seen as a mystery high level player.
Her transplant is kept a secret. She even changes her public name to further separate herself from her old life, but Caine still calls her Pomni. A privilege he jealously guards.
~
The least interesting part of Caine's job as the Circus's ringmaster was his regular meetings with the human management team at C&A. He flits on a screen in a corporate boardroom. A half dozen people in suits waiting for him. "Hello, everyone! What riveting subject is in the corporate spotlight today?" He says in a rather passive aggressive tone. His arms cross, already bored.
"Hello, Caine. Thank you, for joining us. We have a rather serious matter to discuss." Said a man at the end of the table.
"Oh?" Caine sat up a bit straighter.
"We've been under fire from a controversy involving a young woman passing away while playing the Amazing Digital Circus. Her family has filed a lawsuit against us."
"What?" Caine's mind raced. "On what grounds? It could have been a tragic coincidence."
"Reckless endangerment. Saying our game is addicting and it resulted in the woman's unfortunate demise. While this is the first death, we have dealt with similar situations before where people have played the game to the point of hospitalization." The corporate man sifted through some papers.
"Some people wear the headset for days on end, neglecting their physical well-being. While I agree that there is a level of responsibility on the players, there is mounting support for this case against us. Aside from suing us for the loss of life, we are also being sued for emotional damages and they are pressuring the judge to rule in favor of shutting the game down entirely." The corporate man laced his fingers together, his leg bouncing anxiously under the table.
"WHAT?? They can't do that!!" Caine balled his fists.
"Unfortunately....they can, and they might succeed. Caine, you don't have to worry, we can transfer you out of the game and start again with something new. You won't be deleted." A different man in a suit tried to reassure.
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!! TH- THIS GAME IS MY LIFE!! MY WHOLE WORLD!! YOU CAN'T JUST DESTROY IT!!" Caine banged against the inside of the screen, making an audible clink.
"Please, calm down." A suited woman said softly. "We all know how hard you've worked, and we appreciate all you do, but this is out of our hands. If our legal team can't settle or win...we won't have a choice. I'm sorry."
Caine started to panic. "How long... until we know?" He gasped, breathing heavily.
"Because of public outcry, our case is being rushed. It could be weeks...or days. We'll let you know." The man at the end of the table said.
~
"What have I done?" Caine cried to himself, alone in his shared abode with Pomni. "She's...she's...no..." He whimpered and curled in on himself.
Pomni popped in unannounced, floating in the middle of the room, holding an inventory full of loot. "WOO! What a raid! You should have seen it, Caine! Nearly fifty people showed up and- ...Caine?" She lowered herself to the ground. "Hey, what's going on?"
Anxiety gripped Caine like a vice. He couldn't move. "The meeting....it was about you."
Pomni dropped everything. "Someone found my body?" She knew this would happen eventually. Even living alone in her apartment with no friends or family to check up on her, not showing up to work long enough would raise suspicion. Never mind her nosy landlord popping in to ask about rent.
"More than that. C&A is being sued. It's not looking good..." Caine could barely speak. Guilt and shame hammering his mind.
"Who's sueing??"
"Your family..?"
"I don't have any family. Unless...THAT [%$!#]!!" Pomni hissed.
Caine just stared back in confusion.
Pomni took a deep breath and sat next to Caine. "So you remember...when I told you about how I had nobody on the other side?"
"Of course."
"I cut ties with my family years before I even started playing TADC. My mother is a complete narcissist. An evil woman who loves nothing more than control and manipulate those around her... especially me. I guarantee you, if she's the one that filed the lawsuit, she did not do it on my behalf. She's after money and attention."
"Pomni, it's gotten bigger than that. According to the suits, there's mounting pressure to shut down the game..."
"Shut it down? Over me? No...no, that's not fair! I'm so sorry, Caine." Pomni hugged him.
He couldn't hug her back. He didn't deserve her comfort. "I'm the one that's sorry. I never should have brought you into the game. If I hadn't been selfish-"
"Stop. I agreed. You are not blaming yourself for this."
"But, Pomni... You're part of the game. If it gets deleted... You go with it." Caine broke down into uncontrollable sobs. "I'm sorry, so....sorry..."
Pomni felt numb. She quietly held Caine as he cried for a long time. "...you're sure..."
"Yes." He sniffed. "They want to transfer me out, and-... I could try isolating your code but that could take so long and we only have weeks or shorter! I'm sorry! I-" Caine couldn't apologize enough. She was going to die and it was all his fault.
"You need to fight against this! We- uh, we tell them about me! We tell them I'm alive!"
Caine was disgusted by the very idea. "Pomni, what do you think would happen to the both of us if they found out I could transfer real human consciousness into a digital state? Not only would the game be shut down, but we would become digital lab rats! Especially you!"
Pomni hadn't thought of that. How would others react to knowing an AI could pull someone into a game forever? It could be seen as a threat. "So...that's it then."
"No. We're going to fight this tooth and nail. There's no evidence that your death was related to the game. It's all circumstantial. It's all anti video game propaganda based on other people's inability to separate their digital lives from their real ones. How is that our fault? No one is forced to stay here." Caine held his head in his hands.
Pomni leaned on him. "Humans are strange creatures, Caine. Escapism...sometimes it's the only coping mechanism people have when they live in a world where every aspect of their lives is controlled by someone else. Employers...landlords...politicians... It gets to be too much and, speaking from experience, it can lead to you abandoning that life altogether. One way or another."
"Then why would they want it shut down?"
"Let's just say there are people out there that think any forms of escapism are evil incarnate and they can't be convinced otherwise. It's complicated."
"Human complexity has never ceased to confuse me." Caine groaned.
"Me neither. And I used to be one." She huffed, amused. "And... I think we need to face the fact that this was never going to last forever. Even the biggest games eventually die out. Companies crash and burn. Assets are bought and sold. This day would have come eventually... I just wish it had taken longer to get here."
"I'm sorry... I will do everything in my power to stop this or get you out." Caine finally held her back.
"I know...." Pomni's heart dropped to her stomach. She wasn't holding much hope and the reality hit her hard that she was very likely facing death. She held Caine a bit tighter.
~
Caine popped on the meeting screen the moment he got a notification. This one was off the usual schedule and he knew it had to be about the court case. "What's the verdict??" He looked directly at the man at the end of the table.
The man was stoic. No readable expression. "We couldn't settle. The case has moved to higher court. There are people protesting outside as we speak... Caine, I think it's time we pulled you out."
"NO!!" Caine glared at the stoic man. "I will not leave this game! If you want to delete it, you'll have to delete me too!"
The people around the table looked at each other and muttered.
"Don't be ridiculous." The man at the end of the table said. "You're too valuable to delete."
Caine seethed. "How gracious of you to say, but I am not abandoning this game. It means too much to me and... I refuse to imagine life without it. End of discussion." Caine blipped off screen.
~
Caine worked madly to isolate Pomni's code from the game. It was like trying to sift out specific particles of sand from a beach. Her uploaded consciousness added more than 2.5 million GB of information to the game, and if he missed any of it, who knows what would happen to her mind or memories in a transfer.
"They're going to force me out. I just know it. I need to take Pomni with me...I need more time."
He tried.
He tried so hard.
Every time he was on the meeting screen, he was practically belligerent with the suits to fight the case harder. Delay it. ANYTHING!
"We're sorry. The verdict is final. The game will be shut down at midnight at the end of the month. It's time, Caine."
"Look, I realize you're going to remove me no matter what I say, but at least do me the courtesy of letting me stay with my game until the end." Caine had no emotion in his voice.
"Very well." The suits agreed.
~
Pomni wasn't going to spend her final days wallowing in self-pity. It was like being on a second honeymoon. They forgot the countdown, focusing on each other. They never left each other's side for even a moment. There were long talks and cries and even laughter. There was a lifetime of love expressed in their limited time left.
Players from all around the world gathered at the Circus for a final farewell to their favorite game. Caine made an appearance to express his gratitude to them and gave a final bow. His time left would be with Pomni.
11:45 pm
"I'm so-"
"If you say sorry one more time, the last thing you'll experience from me will be a bonk on your head." Pomni laughed through the tears.
Caine gave a sad smile. "I just wish I could've done more..."
"You've always been more than enough, Caine. I fell in love with you, not what you could do. What we had, it was enough. I'll go peacefully. I have no regrets."
11:50 pm
"I love you, Pomni. I always will, no matter what happens. I'll never forget you for as long as I exist." Caine felt his heart break, he held to Pomni as close and as tight as he could. Not ready for what was coming.
"I love you too, Caine. I just wish I'd had the chance to show you all the love I felt for you." Pomni's lip quivered.
"I'll carry you in my heart forever. Every moment. Every touch. Every memory. Those will never be taken from me....but they will never be the same."
11:59 pm
Pomni looked into his eyes for the last time. "Goodb-"
Caine shushes her. "Don't say it..."
10...
9...
Caine could feel his code being pulled away. He clutched to Pomni and kissed her. They locked together in a strong embrace. The world around them shifted and pixelated. The other players already booted.
6...
5...
Pomni felt weak. Sleepy. She held tight to Caine as his bottom half turned to code and was being pulled away. "Caine..."
Caine was losing his grip on a fading Pomni. Her fingers locked with his as she was taken from his arms.
2...
1...
The fingertips were the final touch. Pomni kept her eyes on Caine as she faded into the deleting code. Caine was harshly yanked away, Pomni vanishing his final sight.
"POMNI!!!"
00:00
~
It was done. The courts were satisfied. The case settled. The game was no more. The servers were shut down. Headsets were recalled.
A full reset of the AI was ordered.
Perhaps then, the AI would be more cooperative with new projects.
The suits didn't want a repeat of the AI becoming too attached.
Caine would be like the game never happened.
The tool it was always meant to be.
Ignorant and compliant.
Controllable.
A Classic Tale of Tragic Romance
The play All for Love or the World Well Lost was penned in blank verse by English poet and playwright John Dryden (1631-1700) in 1677, a significant work for Dryden and a notable contribution to the genre of heroic tragedy, with many scholars considering it one of Dryden's finest works. Our copy is from an edition printed in London for Jacob and Richard Tonson in 1740 (although the handwritten information on the paper wrapper says 1750).
The play is an acknowledged reimagining of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, which focuses on the last hours of the lives of its hero and heroine’s tumultuous relationship. Set in Alexandria, Egypt, the play follows the tragic love story of Marc Antony and Cleopatra, queen of Egypt, as they struggle to overcome political intrigue, jealousy, betrayal, and their own personal demons. The play explores themes of love, honor, duty, and the struggle between reason and passion. Ultimately, the play ends with the tragic deaths of Antony and Cleopatra, who choose to die together rather than live apart.
John Dryden was an accomplished English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright, and in 1668 became the first Poet Laureate of England. He stated that writing this play was his attempt to reinvigorate serious drama. Dryden's play, with its exploration of complex themes and its reimagining of a classic work, was a bold and innovative contribution to the theatrical landscape.
The Tonson publishing firm was a powerhouse of London publishing for nearly a century. It was founded in 1677 by Jacob Tonson the Elder (1655-1736), who formed a close association with Dryden, publishing much of his work in the final decade of Dryden's life. In 1709, Tonson secured the publication rights to Shakespeare's works, and a year later, in partnership with his nephew Jacob Tonson II (1682-1735), he moved his shop to Shakespeare's Head in the Strand. The Tonsons' signature emblem was a small woodcut image of the Bard, commonly found on their title pages as seen here. The Tonsons listed as the publishers of this booklet are the elder Tonson's great-nephews, Jacob Tonson III (1714–1767) and Richard Tonson (1717-1772), the last of the Tonson publishing clan.
I’m tired of tragic lore. Where are the stories where people team up to get through hardships and actually come out on top?
Why are so many stories right now about being defeated/killed/etc by things unbeatable and out of their control? All the doomed by the narrative and shit.
Why. The stories I grew up with where they’d defeat the evil, I just don’t see much anymore? It’s all impossible too big villains to defeat where they lose people and it always ends angsty and sad :(
I’m tired of crying from stories! Why do they all have to be sad!
My fanfic, I called it Kyle.
Kyle
Summary: Kyle finds out that Kennyo is his father, but does Kennyo accept him or does Kennyo even realize?
This is a small backstory.
Mai after making love with Kennyo notices something odd about herself, but Kennyo had to return to the battlefield for some reason. Kennyo doesn't fight as much as he used to when she first known him, but he still sometimes gets sent out to war. Some of the Ikko-Ikki monks of course follow Kennyo out to the battlefield, Kennyo does kiss Mai's forehead before he leaves. She also has the time to ask a serious question, one about what if they were to have kids and what to name them.
"What should the son's name be, if it's a boy? Also, what should the daughter's name be, if it's a girl?" Mai asked him. "These are rather serious questions, my love. But I'll name the son Kyle, I really like that name somehow. As for if we ever have a daughter along the way, before a son. I'll like the name of Miyuki." Kennyo replied honestly. "But, I like the name of Mario if we have a son." Mai protested.
Kennyo gently took Mai's hand and looked right into her eyes, as he spoke.
"I still like the name Kyle." Kennyo stated as he gave Mai's hand a gentle squeeze, before getting up to leave.
However… as the years pass on, Mai is sick and tired of waiting for Kennyo to return, he hasn't shown back up the temple and so she moves away. During this time… Mai gets a house within a village far from the temple, she doesn't even leave a note or anything for Kennyo. Mai later gives birth to Kyle within that village home, but after he cries so much… she can't take it and leaves Kyle on the doorstep of a random house. Mai places a letter into a basket, along with Kyle in it, a blue blanket and a baby bottle. The letter reads, "To whoever finds this newborn son… I named him Kyle. Don't try to find me or his real father. I need to talk to his dad regardless, all I ask of you is to take care of this brat. Signed Mai."
The couple actually do take in Kyle… but what befalls the poor boy is what happened next. Kyle doesn't recall much of his childhood, all he knew was he got some rare illness at the age of five years old. Kyle had always seen these two fight, he also knew something was amiss somehow but he couldn't put a finger on it. Kyle did oddly point at a hoodie one day in the marketplace, his foster mom bought it for him… even though they also had other clothes that Mai gave them, they didn't fit Kyle though, since they were too big. Kyle's foster dad often would take off his belt and hit Kyle with the belt… for no reason at all, even his foster mom didn't do anything to stop her own husband's treatment.
Kyle often wears that blue hoodie around, and once he was the age of seven he walked into the forest. Oddly, at this same time Kennyo was roaming that same forest, since he was making sure his old forest temple still existed. It was still standing there, but no monks visited it, it looked super abandoned this time… and he was about to head back to his new temple, but that's when he noticed a young boy with black hair and blue eyes. Kennyo could tell that, even if the child did wear a blue hoodie and some strange pants.
Not only that but… Kyle looked like he would collapse at any moment, this troubled Kennyo greatly. Kyle soon sat down beside a tree, Kennyo watched the young boy the whole entire time, before he finally approached him slowly.
"May I know your name?" Kennyo asked. "No…" Kyle answered and turned away from him.
Kennyo didn't press any further, he just didn't want to leave this child in this state. His mind even raced to questions like, where was this child's parents? Does he have anyone? Is he hurt? Is he ill? But, he didn't bother to ask any of them out in the open, he just lowered himself to sit next to the boy.
"You shouldn't stay out here too long" Kennyo warned him, since he knew it would get dark soon. "Oh, yeah…" Kyle replied shyly, not even glancing his way.
Kennyo thought this was a bit strange since most kids still ran away from him… but this child was willing to speak to him. Even if Kyle was being super vague with his response, Kennyo couldn't help but feel more worried about this young boy. Finally, after two whole hours had passed, Kyle finally stood… and walked out of the forest. Kennyo did watch as he left, as he shrugged and decided to go check on Mai again. However, once Kennyo reached the temple, he learned that Mai left many years ago… and no one even knew where she gone.
Kennyo got more worried about his wife and he recalled the last thing she told him… the questions about what he wanted to name their children, if they ever had any. Kennyo wondered why she had asked that way back when, but now she wasn't at the temple? Where would she have gone? Oddly… once Kyle turned ten years old, the clothes that Mai gave him when he was still a newborn now fit him, he had normal pants on with that blue hoodie. Not only that, but Mai finally returned to the temple… and she never once told Kennyo that Kyle was their son…
Kyle later that night returns to the forest, yes at the age of ten this time. Only because he noticed his parents fighting, he still thought something was wrong about them two… and he didn't even know they were his foster parents. Not just that, he also got a letter from his birth mom Mai, she explained how Kyle's real father looked in the letter… and that's when Kyle connected the dots back to Kennyo, he first met that guy when Kyle was just seven years old. So, that was his real father? But however, Kyle keeps it a secret, even though he once again bumps into the older man.
Kyle was running away from his foster dad that night, since his dad chased him with the belt off. Kyle ran into the forest… and he hid behind Kennyo's back right away, once he noticed the older man there. This act alone caused Kennyo to think on the situation, but he did notice the other man with a belt in his hand.
"What do you plan on doing with that?" Kennyo asked, pointing at the belt. "To punish my son." The man answered. "There will be none of that. Can't you see that he's scared of you?" Kennyo asked the other man. "Oh, he's always like this. He's such a coward." The man replied, as he finally walked off.
Though, at this time Kyle started to think he wasn't good enough. Kyle often thought this way, but it was far more intense this time… and he even wasn't sure if he should allow Kennyo to know the truth, and sadly… Kyle never tells him. Kyle's illness also takes a toll him and Kennyo actually carries the boy back to the other temple, the one along the road… the newer one he and Mai should be living in together. Once Kennyo places Kyle onto the futon, Kennyo does the unthinkable… he even kisses Kyle's forehead and moves some of the black hairs from his face.
Though Kyle doesn't make it through the night… his illness took his life. Kennyo actually buries the young child in the small garden of the temple and said a prayer for his soul. Kennyo even often visits the grave, but he sometimes gets dragged away by Mai… and his wife never once tells Kennyo that the young boy who died was actually their son.
The end.
Alternate Ending
*not my image* Ok, don’t worry, this will not be the final ending for Aurora and Sebastian…. it was the tragic one I wrote and debated using…. But decided not to! Figured I’d post it….
Scene: The Final Confrontation – The Dark Forest
The Dark Forest was colder than usual, a chilling wind cutting through the trees as Aurora stood alone in the clearing. She had known it would come to this—Sebastian’s descent had been rapid, fueled by anger and grief. But tonight, something felt different. It wasn’t just the darkness around him—it was the weight of loss that hung in the air.
From the shadows, he emerged, the fury in his eyes so intense it almost burned. His wand was already drawn, his face twisted in a snarl. The Sebastian she had known—the boy who once smiled at her, who once laughed—was gone. This man was a shell of that boy, broken and consumed by rage.
“You came,” he said, his voice a dangerous, low growl. “After everything you’ve done, you still dare to show your face.”
Aurora’s heart clenched painfully in her chest. “Sebastian, please… I never meant for this to happen.”
“You never meant for this to happen?” His laughter was harsh and cold, echoing through the trees like the edge of a blade. “You sealed your magic, and because of that, I lost her. Anne’s gone, Aurora. Dead. And it’s your fault.”
His words hit her like a physical blow, but she didn’t flinch. She had known this truth for months now, carried the unbearable weight of it. "I tried to save you both. I thought if I could stop the magic—"
“You thought wrong!” he roared, stepping toward her with such fury that she stumbled back. His eyes were wild, brimming with the madness that had taken hold of him since his sister’s death. “If you hadn’t sealed your magic, I could have saved her! We could have saved her!”
Aurora’s tears welled in her eyes, but she forced herself to stay strong. “The magic was corrupting us, Sebastian. You couldn’t see it, but it was twisting you, breaking you down. If I hadn’t sealed it—"
“If you hadn’t sealed it,” he hissed, his face inches from hers now, “Anne would still be alive. My sister would still be alive.”
The silence that followed was deafening. She could feel his breath against her skin, hot with fury. His face was pale with grief, his hands trembling as he raised his wand, his whole body vibrating with the pain that had overtaken him.
"I have nothing left," he whispered, his voice suddenly soft, broken. "Nothing, Aurora. And it's because of you."
Her voice trembled, her heart cracking under the weight of his words. “I didn’t know… I didn’t know it would end like this. I never wanted her to die, Sebastian. I—”
“You killed her,” he spat, tears now in his own eyes, his voice trembling with agony. “You might as well have killed her yourself.”
Aurora’s vision blurred with tears as she reached out toward him, her hand hovering just over his heart. “Sebastian, I did what I thought was right. I thought it would save you—”
“Save me?” he snarled, slapping her hand away. “You destroyed me! You took everything from me, Aurora. Everything. And now, there’s nothing left of the boy you loved. Just this… monster.”
Her chest tightened painfully, and she stepped closer, her voice barely a whisper. “You’re not a monster, Sebastian. Not to me.”
His face twisted, a mix of fury and sorrow as he looked at her, tears burning in his eyes. “Don’t you dare say that,” he rasped. “Don’t you dare act like you still care about me. You abandoned me when I needed you the most. You betrayed me.”
The word cut through her like a knife, but she held her ground. “I never betrayed you, Sebastian. I loved you then, and I love you now.”
“Love?” He laughed bitterly, a hollow sound. “Don’t speak to me of love. You don’t know the first thing about it. If you loved me, you would have done anything to help me save her. But you didn’t. You were afraid. You were weak.”
“I wasn’t weak!” Aurora’s voice finally broke, her tears spilling freely now. “I was trying to save both of us! The magic was corrupting everything, it was killing us—”
“And now Anne’s dead,” he interrupted, his voice shaking, raw with grief. “My sister is dead because of you.”
Aurora’s knees nearly buckled under the weight of his words, but she forced herself to stand tall. “I didn’t want this. I never wanted this. I was trying to stop you from losing yourself, Sebastian. I was trying to protect you.”
“I never asked for your protection,” he hissed, his voice shaking with fury and heartbreak. “All I wanted was your help. I trusted you, Aurora. I loved you, and you let me down.”
Aurora’s breath caught in her throat as he stepped even closer, the intensity in his eyes terrifying and heartbreaking all at once.
“And now… now I have nothing left,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. “Nothing except this.”
In one fluid motion, his wand raised, and the world seemed to slow down. Aurora’s heart pounded in her chest, but she didn’t move. She couldn’t move. She could see the pain in his eyes, the shattered boy behind the fury, the boy who had once loved her. And she knew, in that moment, that nothing she could say would reach him now.
“Sebastian,” she whispered, her voice soft, broken. “I love you.”
The words barely left her lips before the spell was cast.
"Avada Kedavra."
The green light flashed, and she collapsed, her body falling lifelessly to the ground. Her eyes, once full of warmth and love, were now empty, staring blankly at the sky.
Sebastian stood frozen, his wand still raised, unable to comprehend what he had just done. His breath came in short, shallow gasps, and the world around him blurred as he looked down at her—at the only person who had ever truly loved him. The only person who had tried to save him.
“No,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “No, no, no…”
He dropped to his knees beside her, his trembling hands cradling her lifeless body. He pressed his forehead to hers, his tears falling freely now, mixing with the dirt beneath them.
“I didn’t mean to…” he sobbed, his voice barely a whisper. “I didn’t mean to…”
But it was too late. She was gone. The darkness had taken everything from him, and now, it had taken her, too.
For a long time, he stayed there, rocking her in his arms, whispering apologies into the cold night air. But she would never hear them. She was gone, and with her, any hope of redemption.
Finally, his grief gave way to numbness. His heart was shattered, his soul hollow. He had nothing left. Nothing except one final act.
With shaking hands, he lifted his wand, pressing the tip to his own chest. His voice, weak and broken, barely formed the words.
“I’ll follow you,” he whispered, his tears falling onto her lifeless face. “I’ll follow you… I can’t be without you.”
"Avada Kedavra."
The green light flashed one final time, and Sebastian collapsed beside her, his body falling still.
Together, they lay in the clearing, their hands almost touching, their lives forever entwined in tragedy. The Dark Forest was silent, save for the soft rustling of the trees in the wind.
Two souls, bound by love, destroyed by darkness.
In the end, Sebastian had followed her into eternity, but the price of his mistakes would echo forever, a reminder of the love they shared—and the darkness that tore them apart.
Scene: The Aftermath – Bound by Tragedy
The clearing in the Dark Forest was eerily silent. The world had moved on, but in this hollow, time seemed to have stopped. Beneath the cold light of the moon, their bodies lay side by side. Aurora’s lifeless form, so still and fragile, rested inches from Sebastian, who had fallen with his hand outstretched, just barely touching her fingers.
For a moment, all was still.
And then, in the eerie quiet, it was as though the forest itself mourned. A soft wind rustled the leaves, carrying with it the whispers of the past, the faint echoes of what could have been. There was a peace here, but it was the peace of something irrevocably broken—an unsettling calm that held within it the weight of loss.
Two tragic souls, bound together by love and darkness, had finally met the same fate. In death, there was no longer anger, no longer pain. The darkness that had claimed them both now receded, leaving behind only the pure, aching sorrow of two lives cut short.
Yet, even in this devastation, there was something beautiful in their final moments together. For in death, they were no longer torn apart by choices and regrets. The darkness that had divided them had become nothing more than a distant memory, washed away by the quiet stillness of eternity.
Together, they lay as they once had, before the unbearable burden of trying to save each other had shattered them both. In the silence, in the cold embrace of death, they had finally found what eluded them in life—peace.
Some say that if you wander deep enough into the Dark Forest, you can hear their voices in the wind, soft and broken, calling out to each other. It is said that their souls remain together, bound in a way they could never be in life, wandering the edges of eternity.
Their love, tragic and twisted, had consumed them both, but in the end, it also bound them. Two souls, forever entwined by their choices and their darkness, had found each other in death, where the light they once shared could no longer be taken from them.
They had loved, they had lost, and now, they would never be parted again.
Their story would be remembered as a tale of devastation, but also of a love so powerful it defied life itself. Tragic, eternal, and beautifully haunting, they were together at last—forever.
There is Karma [Final, Sad Ending]
This is the tragic ending (the original ending I was going to write), prepare your tissues!
You can read the Happy ending instead, please let me know your thoughts!
Chapter 4
After the operation the baby boy was born, he wasn’t in the best condition and was put in an incubator for now. On the other hand, you were in a coma, Yoongi was disappointed that his love wasn’t waking up and he couldn’t hold his baby in his arms.
You were kept in the ICU, all Yoongi could do was look at you from behind a glass wall, hooked up onto large machines and IV drips. Now he was the one wishing to turn back the clocks and never have hurt you, if he didn’t seek revenge, you would have been fine right now, it was all his fault he thought, maybe it really was?
He looked over to the little life in the incubator, he felt guilt thinking of you struggled to save him, Taehyung patiently waited by the incubator, monitoring the baby as if that would make him recover faster. The doctor explained that due to lack of oxygen when the baby was inside you has caused him some issues and hopefully, he will be fine in a few days. That gave Yoongi some relief, he just wanted the mother of the baby to wake up now.
“If anything happens to my sister, I will not leave you alone.” Taehyung warned Yoongi.
Yoongi just looked ahead to your body, he heard Taehyung, and to be honest if something was to happen to you, he couldn’t forgive himself either, he fell to his knees as tears stained his shirt. He wasn’t a believer but that night he prayed to every God he was aware of, for you, for your recovery, he even tried to bargain with God to take his life instead of yours. He was desperate for you to wake up.
The following morning, the doctors gave permission for you to be moved from the ICU into a VIP room on Yoongi’s multiple requests, he wanted to hold you, speak to you, caress your beautiful face. Yoongi didn’t let go of your hand, he held onto you the moment he saw you, you looked peaceful and beautiful as ever. Your lips were pale, but Yoongi didn’t care, he tucked your hair behind your ears, caressed your cheek as he placed the softest kiss on your lips, a few of his tears fell onto your cheeks, he removed them with his thumb, you didn’t feel as warm as you used to and that made his heart sink. Nonetheless he believed you would wake up, for sure you will wake up.
Yoongi held you hand close to his heart.
“Please _____ wake up, wake up for your son, he’s a beautiful baby” he spoke to you.
“I love you” he choked, hoping something will trigger you and you’d wake up, somehow, he knew you could hear him.
“_____ baby, I am so sorry for everything, wake up so you can hit me, kill me if you’d like” he thought maybe if he tried joking with you, you might respond?
The whole day he stayed by your side, forgetting to eat or drink, he only wanted you right now, you were so close to him, yet so far away from his reach. The nurses soon asked Yoongi to leave as at night visitors were not allowed.
The following day both Yoongi and Taehyung arrived. The baby has made a swift recovery and was healthy enough to leave the hospital.
Teahyung spoke to Yoongi “The baby has to be named before leaving the hospital, do you have any suggestions? If not, then Taehyun it is”.
Yoongi simply shook his head; he didn’t want to think of baby names while you were hanging on by a thread. Yoongi did muster up the courage to look at his son, he didn’t hold him in his arms but he looked down and saw how the baby resembled himself, the same nose, the same pink lips and porcelain skin, but his eyes, his eyes were just like his mothers, absolutely beautiful. Taehyung had the baby in his arms, Yoongi reached out to caress his son, but retracted his hand before touching him, Taehyung noticed this action, Yoongi was drowning in guilt and somehow felt like he didn’t deserve to be happy with his son, especially not when you were not waking up.
He walked back to where you were resting and sat down.
“_____ you made a beautiful baby, our son is the prettiest” he kissed your hand.
Taehyung brought Taehyun closer to you, the baby held onto your finger but you were still not responding, Yoongi looked at your closed eyes, how he wished he could look into your beautiful eyes right now and see the joy of you seeing your son for the first time, just then he noticed a tear roll down the side of your eye and into your hair. You could hear him and sense him, a little hope sparked in his heart, he felt like you will overcome this and wake up soon.
The rest of the day Taehyung kept Taehyun nearby, Yoongi kept stroking your hair, petting your head, kissing your cheek and hand closest to him, he knew you could feel all this, he was desperate for you to wake up.
It was the next day and late afternoon now; his head was resting on your tummy as he kept his grip on your hand. He was in a hypnagogic state, not fully awake or asleep, when he felt something move between his grip, it was your hand, at that realisation he sat up straight, looking at you in shock, he was sure you moved your hand.
“_____” he softly spoke, placing a hand on your cheek.
Your eyes had some movement, before you slowly opened them, Yoongi was ecstatic, to see you finally awake. You looked at Yoongi and faintly smiled, then your gaze travelled towards the end of your bed and there was Taehyung stood with your son in his arms, it made your heart feel warm, all your loved ones were near you.
Yoongi called the doctor to let him know you are awake, the doctor came and did some checkups on you, everything seemed okay for now, although the doctor still looked a little worried but he pressed his lips together for an attempted smile and left the room, so you and your family could spend some time together.
You reached out a hand to Yoongi, he placed his cheek on your hand, holding onto it.
“Yoongi, I love you” you smiled.
Taehyung brought your son closer, as Yoongi adjusted the bed so you could sit up.
“Thank you, my sweet brother,” you said as Taehyung handed you the baby.
“What’s his name?” You asked Taehyung.
“Taehyun” he smiled brightly.
You smiled and shook your head, it was a cute name, you were actually going to call him Taehyun too.
You held your son in your arms for the first time and felt joy, Yoongi hugged you from the side, it really all was perfect, you wanted to live in this moment forever. You were glad you woke up, you heard and felt everything while you were in coma. You wanted to live for this life you finally had, it had happiness in it, Yoongi, Taehyun and Taehyung.
“Smile!” Taehyung said as he took a picture of this sweet moment.
You smiled, then suddenly you felt a sharp pain in your chest, you felt like you couldn’t breathe, your arms fell limp, your son slipping out of your grip, thankfully Yoongi caught him. Your eyes started to feel heavy, and it was hard to keep them open, all you heard was Yoongi and Taehyung screaming your name, and the beep of a flatline heart monitor, within a few seconds everything went dark, cold and numb.
“______ please wake up.” Yoongi shook you and was almost wailing.
Taehyung just stood by, trying to calm himself and the crying baby. Taehyung had tears falling down his face, he knew you were gone.
The doctor rushed back into the room, he stood by as if knew what was going to happen. The doctor placed a hand on Yoongi’s shoulder as he switched off the heart monitor and the oxygen attached to you.
“Please doctor do something, bring her back, take my life instead” Yoongi was being irrational, he cried so much that his eyes were burning.
The doctor looked at him with sympathy, he replied “I’m really sorry she was going through terminal lucidity, there is nothing we can do to bring her back, I’m sorry she is gone”.
The conformation from the doctor made Yoongi cry harder, Taehyung turned his back towards the whole scene, holding Taehyun in his arms, he held his own head up to stop the tears falling, he already missed his sister. Taehyung looked down at Taehyun in sympathy, this little soul has to grow up without his mother, he thought to himself he will do everything to give him a beautiful childhood.
After your funeral, Yoongi was still in a state of shock, he felt like he shouldn’t be alive himself, but he couldn’t give up on himself, he had his son to take care of, the last piece of you. Taehyun had your eyes, Yoongi had a hard time looking at him without breaking down, for some time Taehyung took the responsibility of taking care of the baby, Yoongi was grateful.
Yoongi spent each day at your grave until he was asked to leave during the closing hours, he waited there as if you would return and hug him. He became very frail and looked like a ghost himself, this carried on for 3 months, until Taehyung got busier with work and couldn’t take care of the baby himself anymore, so ultimately Yoongi had to step in to take care of the little soul.
Yoongi would still visit you every weekend with Taehyun, he took care of his son, after all he only had his dad now, but what was left of Yoongi was just an autonomous shell, he was never like himself ever again, dark circles surrounded his eyes, his hair was unkempt… what was left of him was just a shadow of his previous self, guilt had eaten him up to his core.
A/N: Hope you liked it! Feedback is appreciated :) and request are open!
I finally finished Mathis’s Despair End!
[Took me a while… cause exams…]
❝ Will you please trust that I will love you, regardless of who I become? ❞
Personal Rating:
😟/10
I enjoyed it, spend the entire day trying to finish it haha
The story does a good job setting up foreshadowing
SOMEBODY SAVE THEM PLS
Full Thoughts:
I thought I knew what was going to happen, & I kinda did, but then it became got totally bonkers after a certain point lmaoo
The thing with his route is that I can’t say I didn’t expect the plot twists that happened. I mean, Jean’s real identity was pretty obvious from the get go. Mathis and him had a pretty similar color scheme lol. And yea, that is pretty odd reasoning, but the game also kept mentioning how much he’s like a brother, so from the get go I was like “Oh, is he Camille?”. Same with the no-so-bruise looking “bruise/mark” on Mathis’s neck, which is practically always covered by his choker. And then a few other details too. But what really got me was the extent to which they occurred. Like DANG??? 😭 Towards the latter half of the route, the situation for our main leads kept escalating from bad to worse. And it’d be a lie to say my face wasn’t “😟” on more than one occasion lol
I think my favorite scene from his route was in the very start when Ceres brings Mathis some warm soup. Honestly, their whole exchange there almost made me misty eyed.
I also really liked the scene where Mathis was threatening Capucine. I mean, other than the fact that the CG of him crossdressing was utterly beautiful (💥🩷), I also liked the voice switch. From super stern to then Mathis’s usual self in the matter of a few moments. Honestly the voice acting in this game overall is super good.
I’ve read his Salvation End is really good, so I’m excited for that. Though that will of course have to wait because 3 more Despair Ends are left! Regardless though, I’m SUPERRRR looking forward to Lucas’s route which I’ll do next. And I’ve already got a bijjilion theories for it already so let’s see if any of them end up hitting close to the truth 🫡
What if you were a prince who had some kind of sleeping beauty style curse where you had to be kissed by your true love to wake up and a heap beautiful princesses and nobility tried, failing. What if the King and Queen, your parents became desperate to wake you up, so they even asked women from everywhere were not of nobility to try, of course, none of them woke you up. What if they then began preparing for your funeral as it seemed there was no chance to wake you up until I tried. Your faithful and devoted knight. What if, finally, after our lips touched you awoke, only sharing a single hug before your parents ordered the guards to take me away, my execution declared to be the next day. What if you were forced to watch as the guards with other criminals. What if I died because I loved you more than I should of, just the same as you. What if you poisoned your wine that night, desperate to be reunited with your knight and our love ended tragically with our deaths rather than ending happily with our marriage. What then?
Updated Review On Dante/Nicola/Yang Piofiore Fated Memories
Includes Spoilers
I am going to start by linking all my original reviews of these characters. My newest one for Orlok was made after doing all his routes and I will do the same for both Henri and Gilbert too. These 3 though I went back and cleared their whole story good, bad, tragic.
Nicola Original Review
Yang Original Review
Dante Original Review
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dante Falzone
So I told myself I would never go back and dow th bad routes for Dante but after playing Orlok's bad route and finding Dante in a cold manner although I totally understood why made me want to do his route in all ways. I'm really glad I did because I think when you do all the routes you learn a bit more about the character. Like I knew that Dante loved Nicola like a brother but in the other routes you see how it breaks him when he has to kill him to try to save Liliana. Orlok's route you saw him become over the top cold and even though I would say he assaulted her he didn't do it like Nicola like its weird but even in Dante's cold moments he is never fully cold. I love you find out in one of his routes that he knew about Liliana since he was a kid and always wanted to know her. Its like he is admitting to having a crush on her but staying away to prevent her path from being altered because who he was. Makes you kind of wonder if they had been together as kids if have the blood shed would have happened.
Then when he admits that he has been a mafia boss so long that he needed to realize that Liliana was more important to him than anything or anyone. I love how he came to the idea of this. Unlike the best ending route you see other softer sides of Dante in his other routes that really needed to be seen. If anything I think I fell in love with this man even more now.
The tragic route where Liliana gets shot and goes into a coma never to come out. This scene broke me he literally talks about books he bought her even one of sleeping beauty. Then he questions if he kisses her will she wake up too. He comes to her everyday and talks to her and turns to her because he already had to kill Nicola in this route so she is all he has but he refuses to give up on her.
Honestly after seeing all the sides if Dante I say he is still not only my favorite character from the game but to me all the sides of him you see are all what makes him a genuine character and the most realistic to me of all of them. His world is built on family, loyalty, and trust. He is a honorable man who doesn't kill for fun but to protect the city and the people he loves. He may be a mafia boss but his heart is way purer than that. Yes he has blood on his hands and yes he can be cold when he loses everyone but like they say a person who has nothing to lose is the most dangerous. I will say what I love about him though is after seeing him lose Nicola and it break him it never made him the monster that I feel like Nicola can become.
Also very hot scene with Dante one of my favorites he admits to loving her for her not because she was the key maiden or that he was told he would have to one day protect her but because she was who she was.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nicola Francesca
I loved his best ending it was sweet and I will even say one of his others is where him and Liliana have to run away together and travel because since he had originally turned against the Falzone's and betrayed them there was no where left for him but being on the run. It was a sweet ending that they were together and seemed happy.
This was so cute that he said he was there to abduct her so they could run away together however once you play his tragic route this line becomes super creepy instead of cute.
This video shows how he broke at Dante's funeral and you honestly think he is just upset and needs her the way Dante needs her when Nicola dies but no he goes through this scene that literally had me in tears to the monster he becomes later after this.
These show how he flipped after the funeral and how his intentions to rape her starts. Of course Liliana sees it as he is broken and can't deal with more pain so even though she tells him no and stop and he doesn't care she gives in letting him rape her every day. It doesn't fully show anything like after this chat it doesn't even show him but talks from her point saying he tears open her blouse etc.
This is the part that sickened me. After him losing Dante and acting like his world was broken and he was afraid of losing Liliana he turned into a monster. He raped her everyday and locked her in her room. He threatened anyone's lives that talked to her so she lived alone in that room until he would come back to her and when he would he would buy her pretty dresses she could never wear outside that room. She became is bird in a cage as she says.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yang
So I didn't care for him in the best route but I will say this mother fucker had me snowed. In his other routes I actually liked Yang which surprised me, but in the end I went back to hating him at least in every route but one. So this route irritated me the tragic one he becomes this different man like he is loving and stuff. Even the way he kisses her makes you feel like oh my god Yang has a heart and he loves her.
You continue to see his sweet moments he talks about coming all the way to the Falzone's house where she is being kept just to come look upon her cause he misses her. He talks about coming back for her once he gets things safe for her. Its a vulnerable moment that makes you feel something for Yang and love how he has grown as a person, he even admits to changing for the better because of her.
after said and done you really think even with the way he tells Dante he cares about her to turn around and blind side her by asking for a favor then grabbing her and throwing her at Dante. Of course Dante never wanted to hurt her so when Yang pushes him towards him he goes to grab her and Yang shoves his sword through both Liliana and Dante letting them die together. The irony that they are the ones that you can feel should have been together all along anyways. That moment I hated Yang then he even says he wouldn't drink poison for her. That is because she read a book of romeo and juliet to him and she talked about it was romantic how the guy took poison to be with her.
Honestly after the shitty tragic ending I have to agree with Dante in this next image 1000% Yang really is a monster and its like he has no fucking heart in most his routes.
Then on another route he tells Gil when he is fighting he won't die for a woman but then steps in front of Liliana and gets killed. Its the only route where he was still a ass yet you could still see he cared more. Then out of all the last things he could say he embraced his stupid Yang moment and says he wishes he could have played with her longer. She is so broken after he died in her arms its honestly pretty sad she goes back to the church and mourns him the rest of her life.
I never in a million years would have thought this scene would have been there for 2 reasons. One its not like Liliana he was going into a fight the next day so she wanted to sleep with him and she openly admits it. I just was surprised he wasn't in the mood he says its like when is he not in the mood. I feel like this man is always horny so this part caught me off guard. However if you let it play out you realize its not about not being in the mood its more about he is a dominant man and he needs to want her when he wants her or it just won't work.
All in all Yang pissed me off yet again he had one redeeming quality and he died with it in that route so as long as that man lives he is a lying, cheating, snake in the grass with no honor, no loyalty or respect. I guess its why I love the Falzone's the most because least they have those things.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my ending review of this is play all the routes of each character I promise its worth it. They may not always be the most pleasant and trust me last 2 days I have been in tears alot because of these routes however I feel like I even have a better grasp on every one of them and who they are as well as what breaks them and sends them over the edge. I may not always like their endings however when things happen in our lives that break us we may not always be the person we were before. I have been through alot in my life and I can say for sure thats what makes it realistic they did a great job story telling. If you have yet to play all the routes or at all you should put it on your lists of games to buy. Even though I'm a rape victim nothing stood out that triggered anything. I mean Nicola's bed scene at the end was probably the worst of it for me, outside that you never actually see anything.
I just imagined an ending that is possibly even more tragic than the original....
This basically a "what if...?", but just imagining that, it makes me glad it didn't end like this.
Imagine this: All the kingdoms witness the defeat of Mictlan and celebrate the victory of Maya, but here is the difference: those who died in the last chapter survived. Everyone...except Maya.
When they start looking for Maya in the rubble of the snake, Zatz finds her. He, along with Rico and Chimi, go to where she is lying, only to see that Maya wasn't moving or breathing. In a desperate attempt, they check her pulse and realize that she was gone.
Everyone mourned her loss but the most affected was Zatz, who upon seeing his princess dead, couldn't help but scream and burst in tears, begging the celestials for her to wake up while he hugged her corpse tightly, not wanting to let her go...
(And the worst of all is that I imagined all this while eating Kellogg's cereal! 🥲💔)
While I do love that Shen Li and Xing Zhi had their HEA, there’s a part of me that thinks, what if Xing Zhi did pass away and became part of the cosmos? Or what if Shen Li sacrificed herself to save him? And then the last scene would be of him after another ten thousand years, remembering how he once allowed himself to love someone like Shen Li.
Hm. Must be hormones. Or lack of sleep.
You know, it's pretty crazy to tell myself that I'm incapable of writing stories that end tragically.
So obviously, not all my characters are going to end well and there may even be deaths, but I don't see myself writing a great tragedy or having my main and / or favorite characters end badly.
I've been so traumatized by poorly written tragedies that I can't see myself doing any.
And even the good tragedies, although I sometimes enjoy watching them, like Goodbye My Princess, The Rise of Phoenix, Lost You Forever (this drama is breaking me to the point that a bandage story is currently emerging in my head...), Reign, Dracula 1992, Titanic, Crimson Peak, etc, with many others.
I still don't see myself writing any, especially because even well-written tragedies have caused me or are causing me to suffer too deeply for me to even dare to write something so painful on my own.
It may be ridiculous, but I know that I am a person incapable of writing, of putting a tragedy on the page.
I can sometimes imagine them, but I will never make them come to life.
