I saw it in your tag game post that you're also fond of the Apollo-Heracles conflict 👀 for a myth that appears in only a couple of sources, it sure has a lot of presence in the vase paintings (no seriously, everytime I think I've seen the last of it, I find ten more)

SO do you have any favorites among the paintings that represent this story??

I also think it's extremely interesting that it's a story so popularly portrayed by vase paintings and in such a variety of ways!! It's certainly one of the stories that gets left out of written compilation of Heracles' legend a bit (which is a shame, I think it's a fantastic story) but Apollo had a very peculiar relationship with Heracles in general that I just kind of find amazing (and very, very funny).

Apollo is not a god with any legitimate grudge against Heracles, but he does argue with the mortal a bit like he argues with his favourite brothers 😂Part of why I love the story of Apollo and Heracles fighting over the tripod so much is that it is such a little brother thing for Heracles to be upset with the proclamation his elder brother has given him and so, he throws a great fit, taking up the chair and declaring that he'll just give himself a better prophecy! And Apollo, instead of being a marginally professional big brother, decides to fight him for it until their father has to break up their cat-fight. Like was that not just the plot of the Homeric Hymn to Hermes? Is this not exactly how Apollo treated Hermes when he was a child and now those two are inseparable? 💀

Because of this, my favourite vase paintings tend to be the ones that highlight the personal squabbling between Apollo and Heracles the most. There are some very elaborate ones that have the full host of them - Athena, Heracles, Apollo, Artemis, usually a dog and a doe, I've even seen a couple that had birds and plants etched on them, but the simplest ones that show Heracles about to bonk Apollo with his club out of frustration or depict Heracles nyooming away from Apollo while Apollo (presumably) yells curses about how he's going to fling Heracles head first into Tartarus for daring to take his things? Yeah, those are the premium big brother/little brother things I'm looking for.

being a comic charles xavier fan is like being in the trenches like yeah we know he sucks! idk why they demonize people who like morally grey/villainous characters and sometimes they judge him based off of stuff that was retconned long ago that stemmed from harmful stereotypes about disabled people at the time 💀

Also tbh idk why people act like Malleyuu fans are the main culprits in twst illiteracy/mischaracterizing Malleus and making up 638272 scenarios to be mad at when a single individual says something goofy in relation to Malleyuu (that or just taking random lighthearted yume jokes way too seriously😭)

From what I've seen people who mess Malleus up are the people who never liked his character all that much to begin with or the ones that only have a minimal/casual knowledge of Malleus/twst in general because they're more into other interests

Only randomly bringing it up but idk it's lowkey annoying to see people keep dragging a conversation (that was already from weeks ago💀) regarding that one lighthearted joke about Malleus OBing because of Yuu from a tiktok user who literally admitted in the same post to still be at Book 4😭 It's not like there is a shortage of people who are actually caught up with the story who know Lilia is the primary reason for his OB and that he has an important attachment to him, Lilia stuff like that is literally what the fandom as a whole has been focusing on for the past year (including ppl who like malleyuu)

I get some people just never liked the pair to begin with because they favor other Yuu or Malleus ships hence this reaction but atp save your energy for the people who think "Malleus is faking his social cluelessness because he's pure evil" or being lowkey victim blamey about how his circumstances affected his personality and mindset. Or the people who sideline his entire character to just be a villainous plot device to highlight the development of some other character (usually Silver, Idia, Ace or Lilia but sometimes even Rollo??? ever since the start of Book 7.)

^ Like idk those seem like more heinous ways for him to be mischaracterized in and not a mildly corny yume joke😭 There are worse jokes regarding Malleus like the ship jokes of him with Lilia💀 or the "Rollo was right all along" jokes

i seriously need more narumi and mina moments because just imagine the relief mina felt when narumi joined, similar age to her and was also considered a prodigy in the force.

to have someone to share the burden of the defence force’s future with must’ve felt so freeing. because before he joined it was just her, age 18, being told that she was going to change kaiju extermination with her exceptional synergy with firearms. and she was so, so scared.

narumi doesn’t have the kind of skills or talent for long range combat like she does, but he’s also a top candidate (despite his behavioural issues- which aren’t much of a hinderance anyway) and mina doesn’t have to carry the burden of the future alone anymore

(although she’d never admit, given she probably views narumi as someone completely shocking i just think it’s so funny how she stood there like O_O when she first saw him)

like i LOVE seeing the contrast. mina who was sent onto the battlefield for the first time and was deathly afraid vs narumi who was sent out and immediately took action because that’s how he always lived (fighting)

and now they’re the top two strongest captains in the force and they will be the ones to lead the new generation..

not to like wax poetic about the literary nuances of Black Fucking Butler but i feel i need to point out how insanely campy it is. oh okay cool the butler is throwing butter knives at people with guns and winning. we're battling undertaker's zombie army by starting a boy band (we actually got the idea from the ZOMBIES' boy band). theres a curry making competition and its so important it needs an entire volume and a continuing motif dedicated to it. the Grim Reaper Death Gods are all cornballs with gardening sheers. the contradiction. the unintended irony.

i think the manga is like. toeing the line of camp. like its silly yet takes itself so seriously but its not too silly. my immersion is not broken by the silliness. but the anime is uncharted levels of camp. what the Hell was going on with pluto. you're gonna look me in the eye and tell me the phantomhives own a fifty foot dog thing and no one has noticed. simply one hell of a deer. ice skating. theres opium in funtom candy. the queen of england is maybe a little girl. speaking of which, the city of london just burned down. yeah the whole thing. the fifty foot dog was there too.

it's so ridiculously out of left field and the fact that none of the characters seem to notice or care feels like being gaslit. camp so visceral it's causing psychic damage. i am constantly begging the narrative to break character just once and acknowledge its silliness but doing so would negate the lack of awareness that makes it camp. its dated and timeless. an absolute milestone in camp history.

i think it’s deeply silly to call second born children “middle class” or people who know ~struggle~ and idk where that impulse is coming from bc i’ve seen this take a LOT lately (i think s2 of hotd is rotting everyone’s brains tbh). like “otto had to earn everything he’s gotten” are we somehow also making the argument that kevan lannister or bran stark are middle class and have to ~work for everything they got~ or can we acknowledge that just like every other noble in this series they were all handed immense privilege by their older brothers? like, bran is not ever going to worry about being homeless lol and neither would otto; hell, tywin fucking hates tyrion and is looking for an excuse to disinherit him and says as much to his face but tyrion never suffers for anything materially (until the trial) because regardless of his status as a disabled man, a younger brother, or the scapegoat for all his family’s problems, they’re not going to let him wallow in squalor!! otto, kevan, quentyn, bran, like 70% of the freys, oberyn, ned and benjen, daemon - these are all second born sons and they are not at all equivalent to someone in the modern day who is one medical crisis away from poverty! they are noble born and castles are fucking huge, even if they never married an heiress or their daughters never married heirs, they would NAWT have been homeless!
