i should clarify that i'm specifically thinking about the heart wrenching realization (this young boy and his shorn head and the bitter way he views the world, and magic, and simon) that simon had none of this. and that for all that the humdrum was a horrifying all-consuming maw ready to devour all of magickal creation to fill a hole in his starving cosmic scar of a body that would have never been filled, he's just a child.
AU where the humdrum gets pinocchio'd into a real boy (small young simon) and SOMEONE'S gotta raise him, so ... ruth. (originalsimon has complicated feelings by this child that may essentially be his son but is mostly his little brother who almost destroyed the magickal world)
#sometimes i read the humdrum's dialogue. and like#simon saying he was sorry the humdrum never got to see the good bits#and i think about how absolutely fucking tragic 2003 peter pan was to me#the laughing family and peter all alone on the cold windowsill#reassuring wendy at the end that he'd be fine on his own#the humdrum was born hungry#he's a child starved for everything a child is supposed to have. because he is Simon Snow.#and now ruth can give it to him but he doesn't even know how to be a person#i imagine him smashing plates and throwing tantrums that used to drive magickal creatures violently insane#but now it's just him and the wretchedness in his chest and the disregulation#stamping and crying and red in the face but no more magic to stress-eat. he just has to sit with the feeling. he has to learn to be Alive.#living things have to feel this way sometimes but people care and want to help#its a story deep in my soul abt a severely neglected kid with awful attachment issues and no coping mechanisms and anger#(gee tumblr user ebbpettier ANOTHER ONE its almost like you relate)#but its also a story about a parent who's child and grandchild were both fucking ripped away from them being given a second chance#a place for all the love to go#'grief is just love with no destination' and lucy is gone#but simon and the humdrum are both still here#and one of them is an adult learning to cope but the other is a child who needs her so much#anyway here's wonderwall

What's Mine
Summary: Bucky pushes you too far and decides to explain how your situation works. Or doesn't.
Word Count: ~2.3 k
Warnings: Dark Fic, Implied dub/non con, Power imbalance. Please let me know if I missed any.
Previous Part
It's been a few months since Bucky "claimed" you. He followed up on his promises of taking care of you. You frequently woke up to some surprise gift or another. One day it was a fully stocked kitchen. Another day it was the leak in the bathroom sink getting fixed. More than a few times it's been jewelry with his initials on it.
And all it cost was letting him use you. You swear a piece of your soul dies every time he makes you cum. Every time he coats you in his semen. Every time you match his fervor. It might not be so bad if he didn't gloat every time. That damn smirk haunted your dreams. Or was it nightmares? What was the difference anymore?
It had definitely affected your standing in the community. People were scared to interact with you. Fewer parents brought their kids to the library when you were there. Ruth and her friends had no problems calling you all sorts of degrading things under their breath. You definitely caught them giving you the evil eye more than a few times.
Part of you suspected that if you'd quit trying to fight him he'd lose interest. He liked when you were in a fiery mood. If you could just give in, give up, he'd likely stop using you. But you couldn't help yourself. You hated him. You hated yourself for enjoying the pleasure he gave. That hate needed an outlet.
You pull into your driveway, no longer surprised to see Bucky's bike there as well. You sigh, wondering if you can talk him into to leaving. You're exhausted. Walking into the house you don't even have a chance to take your jacket off before Bucky is on you.
"Bucky, please no. I'm just too tired."
He chuckles, "don't worry. I'm just really happy to see you. We're going out tonight."
You sigh, "I'd rather stay in."
"Then that means you have the energy for me all night."
"Ugh, fine. Where are we going?"
"I've got you an appointment at the tattoo parlor."
"WHAT?! I hate tattoos! I can't get any!"
He smiles as he growls at you, "you're going to get a tattoo just for me. No one else is going to be able to see it, but we'll know it's there."
"Isn't the jewelry enough of your 'ownership'? You even got me a brooch for my cardigans with your initials!"
Bucky licks his lips, "it was just the beginning, Doll. So far everything I've done to mark you are things that can wash away or heal up. This is the next step."
"I refuse," you declare, crossing your arms.
"Fuck, Doll, you're getting me riled up." He puts his arms on each side of your head, boxing you in against the wall. "And you're getting that damn tattoo. We can either go now, while you're still cleaned up, or after I've fucked your brains out and you're a cum covered mess."
"Fine," you drop your head. "Let's go to the tattoo parlor."
"Not yet." He grabs you chin and makes your look at him. "You need to thank me, first, Doll."
Bile rises at the back of your throat. "Thank you for letting me preserve my dignity."
He laughs. "Give me another," he taunts, using the same voice as when he's telling you to give him another orgasm. You hate yourself for the involuntarily clench your pussy does.
"Thank you, Bucky, for...for introducing me to Bunny. It is nice to have a friend." A friend who understands how fucked you both are, you think.
That gets a more sincere smile on his face. "It is important to me that you know my best friend and his girl. I'm glad you're good to them. Bunny is gonna need you when she's pregnant."
"What are friends for," you dryly reply.
"That's my good girl, Doll."
The tattoo is pretty much what you expected. His initials, right over your heart. If you wore anything low cut, it would be obvious. You were sure that was the point: can't even show a hint of skin without reminding everyone who it actually belongs to. At least it wouldn't be a problem at work, given you always dress conservatively.
By the time you're home Bucky is practically salivating at the memory of the tattoo on your chest. He might be eager to see this permanent mark of his claim on you but at least he's willing to follow instructions for proper care so it doesn't scar or make you sick. You made sure to thank him for that, knowing he likes to hear it, and he reiterates, "I take care of what's mine."
"Any chance I can just get some sleep tonight? I wasn't lying when I said I was tired."
"I'm all worked up, Doll."
"I thought you take care of what's yours," you snap back. "How is keeping me awake, not letting get good sleep, taking care of me?"
He grips your chin and gives you a thoughtful look. "I suppose you're right," he admits. "Even a vibrator's batteries gotta recharge every so often, right?" You roll your eyes and he grins. "But I'm going to hold you all night and when you wake up, it's on. I know you don't work tomorrow."
"Is that why you helped with my budget? So I'd have more free time to be your personal toy?" You can't fight the fire in your voice. You're tired, yes. Tired of being so angry all the time.
"Aww, you admit you're mine," he teases.
Unable to hold back any longer you smack his face. "I have never been so angry or tired as I have been since you showed up. You want to take care of me? You want me to be yours? Treat me like a fucking person!" Tears are pouring out of your eyes, the stress and frustration of the months finally finding a kind of release.
Bucky glowers at you and grabs your throat with his metal arm. "You shouldn't have done that, Doll."
"I don't care anymore," you croak.
That seems to catch him off guard as his hand loosens and his face softens.
"Oh, Doll," he shakes his head. "You really should've said something sooner." You squeeze your eyes shut as more tears start falling. He removes his hand from your throat and brings you in for a hug, causing you to cry even more. He pats your hair and coos, "there, there," until you can't cry any more.
"Let's get you to bed," he says quietly.
"I...I don't...I don't understand."
He gently lifts your chin, "you know, before Bunny ran, I tried to warn Steve he was being too controlling. That she was going to bolt. He didn't listen and, sure enough, she escaped. Wouldn't surprise me if she continued to try because he hasn't learned to loosen his grip. I don't plan on repeating his mistakes. Yes, you're mine and you'll never be rid of me. But that doesn't mean I can't be benevolent."
You sniffle as your brain tries to comprehend the sudden change in his demeanor.
"Now lets make sure that tattoo is properly cared for," he says with a soft kiss to your forehead.
"I...I hit you," you stammer.
"You're over-stressed and tired," he shrugs. "If I thought you were doing it just because you wanted to hurt me, yes, there would be repercussions. But I've apparently been overworking my poor Doll, so I'll forgive that one smack." His tone at that last part implies any more attempts to lash out at him will be punished.
"Thank you, Bucky," you murmur as you hang your head.
"Mmmm. That's more like it. Now let's get you to bed and tomorrow we'll work on your communication skills."
You wake up feeling like you're hungover without having had any alcohol. The delicious smells of breakfast lure you out of the bed, even though you dread meeting the cook.
Bucky's shirtless and smiling as he works. If you were in anything close to a healthy relationship you'd smile at how happy he is. Instead you keep your head down, trying not to think about that metal hand wrapped around your neck. About how those muscles feel pressed against your back, or on top of you.
He sees you and gestures for you to sit at the table. He brings you a plate of breakfast, a mug of coffee and kisses the top of your head before sitting across from you. You don't eat right away like he does, lost in your confusion about this change in behavior.
"Eat, Doll," he orders. "I didn't stock your kitchen and cook this up just for you to let it go cold."
"What is going on?" your voice is barely above a whisper.
"I'm taking care of my girl," he answers, nonchalantly. You look at him like you've never seen him before and he sighs. "Eat, or I will force it down your throat."
You grab a slice of the toast and start chewing. "Thank you, Bucky," you grumble and he nods in his approval.
"One of the differences between me and Cap is that I know I'm a monster," he tells you between bites. "He likes to think we've done all of this to keep his girl safe and give her the life she always wanted. I know better. But we've been best friends since we were kids. Ride or die, you know? So I'm always going to have his back. I've just made peace with the fact that it means ruining lives."
"You never tried to talk him out of it? Out of taking over an entire town?"
He shakes his head. "Steve's the kind of guy who can never be talked or distracted from his goal. One of the things I find endearing about him."
"So, he gets you all to take over everything here and you, what? Enjoy the spoils?" Feeling the bile rise at the back of your throat, you go for another slice of toast to try to settle your stomach while keeping Bucky happy.
"It's a balance," he grins. "We take over and just start doing whatever the hell we want, a lot of people are going to die trying to get rid of us. So we set up some rules for our men. People will remain upset, of course, but they're less likely to 'rise up' so long as we have a level of restraint. It's, honestly, the biggest part of my job as Cap's second."
You think on this for a minute, mindlessly eating. "I get why the town, but why me?"
He shrugs, "I needed the stress relief. It ain't easy keeping a crew in line and I was initially just hoping for a quiet spot to read to calm down. Then I started watching you. Saw you expertly handle all kinds of difficulties. When you snapped at me, I figured, like me, you could use some stress relief."
"Stress relief?!" He gives you a look that has you clamming up.
"And fuck you were so good," he muses. "That first photo is still the background on my phone." Heat rushes to your face. "I decided to go ahead and keep you as mine. You're not only a good fuck, but you were quick to befriend Bunny. Everyone else who sees her with Cap has decided to avoid her. Something I know you've been experiencing, even though you haven't told me." You look down, unable to say anything. "I honestly thought you liked the rough treatment and was happy to give it, but I'm guessing we hit a limit for you."
"You branded me," you snarl.
"No, I got you a tattoo. Branding is something else and would've hurt you a lot more." His tone is stern and you return your attention to your food. "You've played a critical role in helping me keep things under control. Plus, since you're my girl, you get some privileges and protections. You think Steve would've beaten up Walker for some random librarian? No. But for his best friend's girl? That's another story."
"So, you're just going to keep using me?"
"Yes," he nods. "And now that I know more about your limits, I'm less likely to get stabbed in my sleep."
You look at him, aghast, "that's why you never stayed the night before?"
Bucky chuckles, "so smart. I love it. And now that you have more information, hopefully you're smart enough to put the rest of the pieces together."
"If I hurt you, Steve drops everything to find and kill me. Probably painfully." He nods. "If I make you angry, you're likely to take it out on someone who doesn't deserve it or you lose control of your men for long enough that they hurt someone who doesn't deserve it." He nods again, smiling at you. "And if I stop playing along like everything is okay, it's another sign to the townsfolk that might set them over the edge and have them shooting, getting hurt, or worse."
Bucky finishes his breakfast, nodding at your conclusions. "God, I love that you're so smart. Makes a lot of this so much easier." You start sniffling and he reaches across the table to gently grip your chin. "I get that this is a lot to take in, Doll. But I know you'll make the right decision. If you really didn't care about this town, you'd have left when you only had a skeleton budget. You're willing to work yourself to the bone to take care of these people, you're willing to be mine to keep them safe."
"I can't say 'no'," you whimper.
"But it doesn't have to be all bad. Remember, I take care of what's mine."

Okay, so, this will be a stream-of-consciousness type post, because I am this close to starting to print screenshots and do a full murder board trying to make this make sense to someone who is not in my brain, so I'm gonna type this out, and if you're seeing this that means it worked or I just typed for too long to not post lol.
Buck, Actually. Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered. I am not the only person that desperately wants a callback, and I know I'm not the only one thinking about what this might mean for buddie. Well, I've been saying for a while now that I would try to type out something about how buddie has been planned and the answers are in Buck, Actually, and that's what I'm gonna do now, I guess.
We know Buck gets a lot of his ideas of love from Buck, Actually. Seeing Maddie and Chim in the early stages, his own quest with love while moving on from Abby, notably Mitchell and Thomas and the "you don't find it, son, you make it." Buck's quest with love now is at a point where Buck wants to be seen "I feel like she sees me" but he is still at a point where he doesn't want to actually be seen, he wants someone to see what he wants to show, but that's not what actual love is. But still, we start out Buck, Actually with Buck literally in front of a huge sign that says "See Me" (also just to add into my madness about the blue and green in other elements of the scene, love the clear divide of Eddie against the sky and Buck against the sign, and yes I know they can't change the color of the sky or the sign but shh just go with it) with Eddie right above it. Interesting scene composition I think.
But talking about the actual couple here, we have Lola, who feels like her husband doesn't see her anymore after a situation where she feels like she lost herself, their kid went off to college, she has more time to herself, is struggling, and goes nuclear until Norman proves that he does in fact see her, just not in the way she was looking for, dude just wasn't aware there was a problem that needed to be addressed. I know I make everything about the cemetery scene lately, but come on. The whole thing with being seen, Buck not knowing who he is after dying, the expectation he is putting on himself about being the person he was before but he doesn't know who that is, like, come on, it's there.
Then the robbers and the two employees at the gas station, granted the robbers are a lot about Buck thinking about his own ways when it comes to sex and women considering he just had sex with Taylor in a bathroom, BUT here is when I start to go a little crazy. Because Ruth and Earl have that little moment of a relationship developing (hi blue scrunchie green cap 🫶), which we later see has developed, but Earl with his injured right shoulder is talking about how he's hurt but he was only thinking about her safety.
Does that sound familiar to anyone else? Just a thought. Yes, I know I'm crazy, it's fine, it will get worse.
Because another thing about the episode is the whole "till death do us part" thing, with the newlyweds who crashed their car, Mitchell and Thomas dying together, and maybe even Buck having to hold Lola back so she wouldn't fall. I'll come back to this in a second, but you gotta love a nice little crush injury involving a vehicle and a focus on handholding, huh?
But the thing is, Mitchell and Thomas make an impression on Buck, and Mr Self Destruct for Attention because that was the only way I was shown love as a child definitely takes the way they die together a bit too literally. Taylor being in this episode while being blatantly wrong for Buck makes an interesting point on that and the way bucktaylor evolves, because Buck gets the whole you make it, and decides he needs to kill himself to make it work, and it is what he ultimately does with Taylor, he thinks he loves her, he thinks she loves him, and he thinks that means if he doesn't give up he can move past his very obvious reservations about the relationship as a whole because "love is not supposed to be easy". But the whole thing is that Buck focuses on the wrong thing there because while Michell and Thomas died together, they had a whole life together, the point is not the death, it is the life. Yes, you need to fight to make it work, but the fight is not all you have.
Another thing about the episode is the concept of movement too, like, Lola's call on a freeway, both accidents involving a car crash of some sort, the robbery is a chase, even Buck and Taylor in the news van, Maddie talking about how slow being on the freeway is, and metaphorically too, with Madney starting to move towards something, Athena learning to deal with Michael's boyfriend. And Buck finally allowing himself to move on, and move on not going back to his old habits, sleeping with anyone for connection, but actually talking to his love interest for a change.
And we have relationships in all types of moments there, we have Buck and Taylor doomed to fail, we have Maddie and Chim in that nice early stage where you're falling in love with someone, you have Bobby and Athena and the whole when you know you know and the way Bobby proposes the next episode, we have the newlyweds, we have Ruth and Earl making the change in their relationship, we have Robber Guy and Baby Bear realizing that she's more in it than he is, we have Lola and Norman and the whole relationships take effort no matter how long you've been together, you have Mitchell and Thomas sharing a whole life.
There's also the whole layer of having the couple that shows Buck what he wants out of love be a gay couple, the way when Buck realizes Thomas is unresponsive he calls for Eddie first, because Chim and Hen are at the call, and they're not with Mitchell because Mitchell's body is there too, so like, the choice to make sure Eddie would be right next to Buck to comfort him is something.
Also, something else, the inmate who kidnaps them is also called Mitchell, and I cannot explain how I got here for the life of me. But Mitchell, Mitchell, Charlie, Charlie, Ambulance.
I don't know, something about the repetition of names, the ambulance as a key piece of the scene, the bonding, the comfort, the fear, the way Mitchell and Thomas died together, and Buck and Eddie could have died together in all of those situations. And the way Buck volunteers into the danger in all of those situations, he offers to help Eddie with the grenade, he goes to get Eddie without backup while actively being shot at, he runs toward the gunfire because he thinks Eddie is in danger, so like, it's a pattern of wanting to go together.
But also, the madney of it all, because while they are clearly moving towards something, they are not ready yet, but everything is acknowledged, which honestly is my main hope, because I don't think buddie is ready yet, but I would like some acknowledgment that where they're going, yk? And with the episode title possibly being a play with the song about being in love and not showing it, not knowing what to do with it, and the next episode being called "you don't know me" who could also be referencing a song about being in love with someone who doesn't know, we could be looking at real movement happening between the two of them yk?
I don't know if this makes a lot of sense, but if you read this I love you 🫶
#someone tell me if this makes any sense#i'm still not hitting all the points#but i seriously dont know how#my brain is not braining#but the clown shoes are ON#anyway#911 meta#kinda#911#911 speculation#911 spoilers#buddie thoughts#i think?

OKAYY moving into simu!ken’s mojo dojo casa house and him cuddling with you every night & not letting you go 🫣❤️
a/n: YUHHHHH more Simu!Ken, coming right up! Thank you dear anon! 💗💗💗 Can be considered an AU of this piece, btw! (+ again, you can kinda read this as Ryan!Ken!)
warnings: fluffy fluff! (+ spoilers obv!)
» fancy reading something new? check out my full m.list!
Let's say for an unbeknownst miracle, Mr. Mattel does allow our dear Ken to bring you to Barbieland, whether temporarily/visitor or as a permanent resident. What's more, he doesn't have a lot of say in it considering the universe has, in fact, destined the two of you to be together.
Ken is obviously your tour guide, not just in the sense of showing you around the place, but also being there for you since Barbieland and the real world worked differently, after all! He especially wants to be by your side the way you did for him when he struggled to get used to your world.
Acting as your guide, he just loves the way your eyes sparkle at anything and everything he shows you, whether it’s the Mermaid Barbies saying hi to you when you first arrived at the beach, or when your OOTD magically appears in your wardrobe or even when he held your hand as the two of you float down from Ken's house!
But the best part about having you by his side is knowing that you'd be the last person he sees when he goes to bed, just as you are the first person he wakes up to.
Shortly after the Barbieland vs Kendom kerfuffle, one of the first changes was the Kens receiving their own houses (read: Mojo Dojo Casa House, because they still liked the ring to it!) rather than living in Ruth knows where.
By now, all Kens, as you can imagine, would have different interests, and one could see it from the interior of their houses alone, including Simu!Ken’s old one! And just as his friends promised, they kept it just as he left it in case he decided to come back, and with the girl of his dreams.
He’d be into athletics, plus basketball and gymnastics. You'd also see a couple of his favourite posters of classic musicals here and there and his ol' good friends, his guitar and piano. He’d even bring some of his new favourites from your world to gift his friends and of course, to spruce up the place. Make his ol’ Mojo Dojo Casa House more ‘you-and-him-esque’.
The Barbies were all too happy to have a newcomer, let alone the significant other of the Pompadour Ken, even inviting you to your first ladies' night.
Ken would be lying if he said he wasn't at least a bit disappointed at their invitation, initially wanting to end the night, and your first night, no less, by playing some songs of your choice on his piano before cuddling with you. But, the last thing he wants to do is ruin your fun. This is your first time, after all. Plus, he knows he has all the time in the world to give you as much cuddles as he has to offer.
So, he returned home without you.
Still, he had a skip in his step, watching a bit of TV, jamming out on his guitar a little. Even as he showered, got changed and went under the covers. Not only was he happy to see his friends, but he was even more elated to introduce you to them.
And though he expected you to stay over at the Barbies’ place for the night, that didn’t deter him from staying awake for a while, laying in bed with his hands behind his head while humming a tune, reminiscing all the things you did from when he met you till today.
So, imagine his surprise when he heard footsteps coming up.
“Ken?” He immediately sat up at the voice, his face breaking into a smile as soon as you peeked your head from behind the wall, “Hi, handsome.”
“Hey,” Ken whispered in disbelief, pushing off the blanket before walking to you. He gently held your jaw, tilting it upwards to lock eyes, "You're here. Wait, how did you get here?”
Though he didn't have to worry about anything happening to you here unlike the more dodgy streets in the real world, he would've still come over in a flash if you had called.
"Have a good night, you two! Don't do something I wouldn't do!" She winked, laughing heartily when you looked away in embarrassment. Ken, too, but he also had a more goofy smile on his face because, well, even the president knew you were both practically joined at the hip. She then drove off, back to continue ladies' night with the rest of the Barbies.
"The president offered me a ride." You answered before looking over to the street, Ken following your line of sight to see the president waving at the two of you from her car.
“It’s not because of me, is it?” Ruth forbid he ruin your night just because he couldn’t give you some space for a few hours.
“No, no! Don’t get me wrong, Ladies’ night was amazing! I even had dinner with both President Barbie and Writer Barbie!” You gushed, remembering how you looked like a child in a candy store as they welcomed you. You then placed your hands on his cheeks, “But I didn’t want to be away from my boyfriend, not especially on our first night here.”
You watched his eyes crinkle as he grinned, even more so when you added.
“Plus, you know I’m not much of a party person.” You shared a laugh, holding each other for a moment before letting you go for a shower. Though, you didn’t miss the goofy smile on his face. Just when you thought you couldn’t be blinded any more by that look of his.
It didn’t take long for you to get ready, heading to your shared wardrobe and finding your sleepwear next to Ken’s outfit for tomorrow. Back in bed, he couldn’t help but grin when you let out a sound of awe as you were miraculously in your nightwear, the same cute noise you made this morning when you changed into your first set of clothes when the two of you first arrived. He stood up, walking to the wardrobe to find you checking yourself out in front of the mirror.
“How do I look?” You posed a little, only to be caught off guard when he took your hand for a twirl, then moved forward, chest to chest as he nodded in appreciation.
“Like an angel, but then again, you are one.” He wiggled his brows. Suave, “Come on.”
With your hand in his, the two of you headed for bed, getting comfortable in between the sheets before he brought you close by the hips.
“Did you at least have fun here?” Ken asked almost hesitantly.
“Ken, I had one of the best times of my life,” You replied, craning your neck to kiss the tip of his nose, “Thank you.”
“Mmm, and there's more where that came from,” Ken assured you proudly, “But right now, I just wanna hold you.”
Since then, there has never been a day where Ken was not cuddling you to sleep. You didn’t have a long-lasting social battery as much as the Barbies did, and Ken was already seeing his friends in the day, so nighttime was almost always reserved for the two of you. And still, he manages to surprise you every night with his bright ideas.
Even when the sun rises, good luck with getting out of his arms. If his proposition to stay in bed for the day won't work on you, his deep morning voice certainly will.
One of his favourite ones is when the two of you were watching a movie in the living room after dinner. You were both comfortably chilling on the couch when he saw you yawn from the corner of his eyes. He chuckled, wrapping one arm around your shoulders and coaxing you to lay on him. Your protests only came in light murmurs, though giving in as the temptation to lay in the arms of your man only grew.
He grabbed the blanket off the couch’s backrest, as he may or may not have hoped for nights like these, opening it up to cover both you and him.
He’d watch the movie for a few minutes, occasionally kissing the crown of your head and patting your back in a lulling manner. He then just stopped caring about the movie altogether, too entranced by how relaxed you were with one side of your face against his chest.
He was too focused on you that he didn’t notice that the movie had a scene revolving around a bomb, not until it detonated, releasing an all-too-loud ‘boom!’ through the speakers that had you stirring in your sleep.
Ken was quick to grab the remote, turning the volume down while cussing under his breath. His heart stopped for a moment when you moved, only to sigh in relief when your body relax again. He narrowed his eyes at the TV before putting his attention back on you. It was only a matter of time before he, too, went out like a light, holding you close before getting some shut-eye of his own.
But besides the jarring lack of walls or just privacy from the neighbouring houses in general, Barbieland is absolutely wonderful!

i hate the night before september eleven. i always have problem sleeping and then being awake. now I'm close to La Moneda. It's even more frightening knowing there's a left leaning president in office. Will they kill him? Do I have to run? Should I start planning a way out? I get so anxious. My granparents survived the prosecution, my parents did too. And they still look over their shoulder thrice when cops are gathering. I look over my shoulder thrice and do two lefts when I see a cop too close. And I haven't ever even touched a political party. 50 years. My dad is 50. I'm not even half of that. Double my life we're living with this nightmare and the shadow keeps growing over all generations. My brother is 15. I was 9 when my dad told me how they threw the bodies of tortured people into the sea. My sibling is 18. I went to my first protest at 11. My grand aunt is 89. Last elections she tried to give us her cents of a pension to get out of the country before the military started hunting leftists again. I was 2 when my dad put on Victor Jara for the first time on the radio for me. I was 8 when I learnt they tortured and killed him. He was 46. He had a young daughter. I can't learn the more than 1400 names of people that disappeared to never be found again. Ruth Escobar was 27 when she disappeared. I'm 22. We both come from the same city and we travel to study in the capital. We're both artists. She disappeared 49 years ago. Her family still looks for her. My grandpa said that I shouldn't get into student politics cuz they can make me disappear. He doesn't remember my name anymore. Dementia took that away. But he remembers how his students were taken away. It's a phantom that will never go away. The fear is so strong. And every September 11 I don't sleep. I listen to Allende's amazing speech. History is ours, of the people that make it. Much sooner than later the biggest avenues will open and free men will walk to make a better world. It's so weird. I want to fight so it never happens again. So kids don't grow up fearing waking up to the nightmare their parents went through. I wasn't alive when it happened. And yet. It feels too close. I will fight so never again happens. So that no one forgets and no one gets forgotten. 50 years. 50 years and counting

Oh man oh man oh man if Phoebe, who is basically co-parented by Uncle Roy, gets a sibling who comes with her own dad? I feel like that’s SO crunchy, because if Roy is there as the *third* adult instead of the second he’s not going to be as involved as he was with Phoebe and I feel like there’s going to be so many complicated feelings about that for Phoebe. (Including probably some “good, I don’t have to share” feelings lol.)
YEAH. Listen I love the headcanon because it's SO crunchy along the way but then it ends really happily because their little family expands and more love is never a bad thing <3 also ROY & Co. WITH A LITTLE BABY!!! <3<3 let's appreciate the vision!!
but yeah I think like, if Roy's sister (who i'm going to call Ruth for the sake of the rest of my response because it's too difficult to not use a name and keep everyone straight lmao) was seriously dating someone and then was like hey we're getting married and then shortly thereafter was like oh yeah by the way I'm pregnant:
Roy would definitely go through it a bit because in my head, he didn't realize what was happening/how it really was between Ruth and Phoebe's Dad until Ruth was already like, REALLY in it. Maybe he even liked the guy. I sort of think he did, just because it's extra prickly and it adds to the intense anger over the situation we see him express in canon. Like, not only is he mad at himself for not realizing how Ruth was being treated, he's also mad that he didn't see the signs and wasn't around when he needed to be, and he's furthermore mad that he was friendly with this guy the times he'd met him when he of course should have known to slug him in the face in advance from the first time he met him, etc. Irrational thought patterns, you know how it is.
So. His panicky brain realistically knows this ISN'T the same. But he's also extra vigilant, especially now that he not only has Ruth to worry about but also Phoebe. So he really has to talk things through with his therapist and Ruth and express his fears to Jamie and Keeley before he really can start to feel okay about the whole thing.
Then once he's accepted Ruth's new boo and is excited for all of them, he gets hit with the "you're getting a new niece or nephew!" news, which sets off the panic alarms AGAIN. because what if he's used up all his good uncle juices on Phoebes and there's not enough left over for the new kid? (i just think Roy tragically overthinks everything lmao)
Also, and the Bigger Thing, is how does he navigate just having to be an uncle to this child without the extra responsibility of having to be a co-parent to them like he's been for Phoebe? What's the balance there? And can he step back to let this new person into Phoebe's life, and what if he fills up the role Roy has in her life and pushes Roy out completely? He wants to give as much of himself to this new child as he'd given to Phoebe but he doesn't quite know what new role to play.
Meanwhile Phoebe is having a similar crisis about accepting this new person and then a new sibling into her home. As you say, she doesn't want Roy to not be there in the same way he's always been there, and she also has all the typical pre-teen angst and this is just one more thing. She doesn't want anything to change. She'd very skeptical of this new guy who is suddenly always around. Why does her mum even like him? etc. etc.
This is a great opportunity for Phoebe and Jamie bonding and an Uncle Jamie teaching moment, because Jamie of course also has a stepparent, and one I personally believe he was VERY skeptical of when Simon first came into his life. So he can share with Phoebe the role Simon's played in his own life and in doing so, gently encourage her to give Ruth's partner a chance. ❤️
everything ends up all right of course. Ruth's partner is a wonderful person who slides right into the family and is very patient with Phoebe and Roy both. And they all instantly fall in love with new baby. Phoebe would be the best big sister. I think it would just be really exciting for everyone involved!!
#it's just everything i like in a headcanon. messy thoughts and angst and comfort and then a lot of love :)#also roy's sister deserves good things!#and ot3 with a baby they can all give back!! that isn't THEIRS. that's the good shit to me lol#roy kent#jamie tartt#phoebe o'sullivan#ruth o'sullivan#ted lasso headcanons#ted lasso#asks

is linda in ictd? if yes can i ask abt her 🥹 sorry im. Insane abt her teehee
ehehehe hi zazz hell yes she is. i am so sorry in advance. spoiler alert she dies. im sorry
lindas a... popular face, in hatchetfield. if you don't know linda, you know of linda. and if you dont know of linda, you're lying. she's one of the loudest voices beside solomon lauter, and often argues against him to force the towns views in favor of her.
shes queer. ofc she is. the barnroe fic i wrote for you? canon to ictd. her and gerald have been happily married for.. 15 years, give or take a few, and for 7 of those they've been with gary and becky respectively. as far as they care, all four boys are gerald and garys kids. they dont give a shit who's really related to which kid.
steph's the one to kill her. she doesnt mean to, actually, she doesn't even mean to run into linda that day at all. but she does, and she kills and eats linda in broad daylight, and its the worst thing to happen to the little family the eight of them had built up until now.
post death, linda doesnt do much. i'm sure she'll meet max and ruth and richie, and she might get a moment to speak through a prophet, but otherwise she. shes dead.
gerald, however, has a rough ass time. he takes two full months of grief leave, and ends up having to completely quit working after another month. depression hits him like a fucking train. becky and gary move in and step up to help with the boys, but it only does so much.
to talk about the boys would be a post of its own, so maybe later for them.
linda's a level four pre death. shes off the chart post death, as shes. dead. she's inhuman, but left mainly untouched. she's one of wigglys favorites.
she'll get something else eventually. i want her to have some sort of relationship to solomon, and i want her to grieve for eliza tessburger and grow close with brooke in the process, but im not sure how yet lol

Whumpcember Day 11 - Infection
CW: Character death, Gore
Slow, deliberate footsteps echoed from the empty alleyway as Adam kept his gun close to him. There should be some food around here...
He moved some boxes around, trying to find some unopened cans. Hopefully, they haven't been spoiled by now. They have been without food for a while and the others were getting hungry and agitated. He volunteered to go alone despite Thatcher's objections.
He took slow, deep breaths as he approached a crate. Just as he was about to take a peek inside...
Something jumped out of the shadows, grabbing Adam's arm. He felt a jolt of pain before he pulled his gun out and shot it in the head. Upon closer inspection, he saw that it was a zombie. Wait a minute, that thing...
He looked at his arm. It was slowly dripping with blood. There was a noticeable bite mark on it, a telltale sign that he would be one of them soon. He hadn't realized he had started shaking, his chest tightening as he tried to breathe. He couldn't focus, his mouth moving to say the word "No." over and over again. He felt hot and cold. His heart pounded in his ears.
How was he gonna tell the others...?
How is he gonna tell Jonah? Cathy?
--------
There was a deathly silence at the table. Adam's sleeve was rolled down, showing his bite mark for all to see.
".......What do we do now?" Sarah asked.
Adam remained silent.
"Well... There are a few options... None of them is gonna end with Adam surviving..." Mark spoke.
"M-Maybe Adam won't turn into one of them. He's dealt with worse things before and he lived through it. He might make it through this one!" Cathy shakily said.
"I appreciate your optimism, Cathy, but you know what happens once you get bit. I'm sorry, but..." Thatcher sighed. "I'm afraid there's no saving him."
Jonah looked at Adam, not sure what to say to him. But he already knew what he was thinking. 'I'm so stupid! I should've gone with someone!'
Thatcher took out his gun and laid it on the table in front of Adam. He blankly stared at it. He hadn't said a word since the revelation.
"We're gonna be leaving soon, anyway. If you're gonna turn soon, we don't want anything to happen to us. This is the only way, unfortunately." Thatcher tried to keep his voice calm, but he couldn't ignore the aching pain in his heart. He had grown to care for these kids. They didn't deserve to be living this hell all alone. And now, Adam might become a walker or even worse... an Alternate.
I should've been the one to get bit. I should've been taking his place. But... What would Ruth think?
She wouldn't want him to become undead. She would want him to survive, to keep moving. So, this is what he has to do. And that includes leaving one of his own children behind to turn.
-------
As the days went by, Adam grew worse and worse. He had developed a high fever, he had started shivering and he was starting to cough up blood. He pulled the blanket closer to him in a futile effort to keep himself warm. The group had left hours ago, probably scouting out the area for another safehouse. He closed his eyes.
He hadn't touched the gun that Thatcher gave him. None of them wanted to put him out of his misery. Maybe they all had the same idea of false hope. That maybe Adam will be immune to this disease. Despite them losing the people they care about, they still stuck together. If it was any other group, they would've thrown him to the wolves. He could tell that they were hurting even when they tried to smile.
Jonah kept telling him stories about the high school shenanigans they would get into, Cathy kept giving him some of her favorite plushies... He tried to hold back the tears that were welling up.
He doesn't want to die. He doesn't want to become one of them. The tough boy exterior that he had built up had finally crumbled, finally revealing just how scared and alone he truly was.
He never got the chance to apologize and make peace with Evelin. He will never be able to see Cathy curl up to him and act like a cat. He won't be able to hear Jonah's obnoxious voice again.
Mom... Dad... If you were here, you would tell me it'll be okay.
As his vision faded, he could see a life he could've lived. With his mother and father, living a peaceful life without any zombies to worry about.
Perhaps... In another life....
His heart slowed.
And slowed.
And slowed....
And became still.
-------
Thatcher's arm was shaking as he and the others stared the horde down. They didn't seem to show any sign of stopping. The group had run out of bullets and they were worn down from hunger. They had no idea a large group of them was waiting when they stopped to rest.
Cesar gripped the crowbar, covering his bleeding arm with one hand.
"Ces, let me take a lo-"
"I'm not bitten!! You saw what happened!!"
Fred and George shielded their sister as she sobbed, trying to make herself look small. Sarah's arm trembled as she stood in front of Evelin, trying to put on a brave front. Jonah kept pulling the trigger to blow the zombie's heads off even though the gun was empty.
Thatcher couldn't believe what was happening. In the span of ten minutes, they were surrounded. Sure, the group had dealt with the same thing before, but that was before they met Thatcher. Now, the same thing had happened again.
And Ruth wasn't there to help him this time.
I'm sorry, Weaver... I-I failed you... I failed all of them. I promised to protect them when you died. But there's just too many of them.
He wasn't brave like everyone was telling him. He was a coward. Always has and always will be. Nothing would change that.
Just as he was closing his eyes to embrace the end, he saw something in the horde. At first, it looked like any other zombie that was wearing a blank hoodie. Then, he caught the tuft of blonde hair and it immediately clicked.
Oh god.... Adam...
He broke down right then and there. He collapsed to his knees and began to sob. Someone was yelling at him to get up, but the words faded away. He should've put Adam out of his misery when he had the chance. He should've put a bullet between his eyes. He just couldn't stand everyone's hurt looks whenever they saw him so he left with them and never looked back.
Why am I always such a fucking failure?!
His thoughts were cut off by something grabbing at him. Snapping out of his trance, he tried to fight the zombie off, but it was too strong. There was screaming. The zombie was dangerously close to his neck.
It was pulled back. A pair of hands grabbed its jaw and pulled. Its head was pulled apart, spilling brain matter onto Thatcher. He stared at what just killed it.
Adam?
He only glanced at him for a moment before he turned to Cesar. He ran at him with frightening speed, causing him to scream and raise his crowbar. Mark tried to get in front of him, but Adam pushed him away, grabbed Cesar's wrist and snatched the crowbar out of his hand. He turned to the horde, let out an animalistic growl and ran.
The streets were filled with the angry screams of Adam Murray as he bashed their heads in. Despite turning into one of them, he still had his humanity. Despite his differences with them, he will not stand by and let his friends be killed.
Blood, bone and brains soared through the air as he swung at them with stunning accuracy and grace. He was like a samurai swinging his sword and slicing up his enemies. He danced in the blood flowing out like ribbons. One zombie grabbed him by the arm, but he threw it to the ground and smashed its head in like a pumpkin. He felt the rage and he welcomed it. Embraced it.
So this is what it is to be a zombie. They must be so confused right now. I'm one of them now so why am I turning on them when I should be focusing on their food?
Who am I kidding? They're dead. They don't have cognitive thoughts anymore! They don't care what they think!
As soon as it began, it was over. The horde that was so overwhelming before was now a big pile on the street. Adam Murray was the only one left. He stood over them, staring at the decayed bodies of what they once were. He turned to the other survivors who were too shocked to even move. Stepping over the bodies, he walked over to them.
Jonah jumped and tried to step back, but his back hit the barricade. His breathing quickened as the reanimated body of his friend slowly stepped toward him. He screwed his eyes shut, bracing himself for the pain of being bitten, but it never came.
He felt him stroke his face. He pried one of his eyes open to see what used to be Adam looking at him with... recognition? Curiosity?
And then, he spoke.
"Jonah....? I-Is that you...?"
Tears poured down Jonah's face as Adam held him close. Everyone else continued to stare, the shock never leaving their faces. He clearly looked like a zombie, but he still had the ability to speak, to fight, to recognize who Jonah is.
Is this another mutation of the virus? Did Adam become an alternate? All these questions still plagued their minds as Jonah started to cry and embrace him.

Miya&Mia's Tickletober Day 5 - Disguise
Elias Ainsworth x Hatori Chise
A/N: Thanks to my sweetest Ginny for giving me the idea for this fic? You are an angel! As always, I hope you all enjoy this!
Chise didn't know much about men's looks. She didn't know what her type was and she certainly didn't know what was considered handsome or not good looking, so she thought she was not the right person for this task in particular.
"Now, what do you think about this, Chise? Do I look better with black hair?"
"U-Uh…"
"Waaa!" Silky clapped har hands happily, nodding her head in approval. On the other hand, Ruth simply huffed and nuzzled himself closer to Chise's lap.
When Elias asked her to help him choose a new disguise for a trip he had to do, she immediately said no, but Elias insisted that he'd like to look good for his bride, even if she wasn't going to be there with him.
"You look… good, Elias."
"Chise… I feel like you don't like anything I show you," Elias said and Chise could clearly see the disappointment on his face and... was that a pout?
"I told you I'm not good at this," Chise said, feeling an uncomfortable feeling in her guts at the thought of disappointing him. Silky quickly read the mood and she was quick to leave to the kitchen.
Ruth looked at Chise and then at Elias. Chise's feelings were settled in his guts as well, but feeling like it was something Elias and Chise had to talk over, he left behind Silky, claiming that he wanted a snack.
Elias sighed and he made his way towards Chise, sitting beside her. Chise couldn't lie and say she didn't like Elias like that, he looked… well, he looked attractive with black hair, she felt something akin to butterflies at seeing him like that.
In other words, she didn't hate it compared to the other disguises he had shown them for the past forty minutes. She would even say she liked it.
"I'm honest," she said, quietly, looking at Elias who looked back at her with very extravagant golden eyes. "You really look good this time. It's my favorite so far."
That made Elias's face light up; if there had been a tail behind him, it would most likely be wagging hard.
He grabbed Chise's hands between his and asked excitedly: "do you mean it, Chise?! Or are you just being kind?"
Chise smiled fondly, shaking her head. His reaction relieved her. "I'm honest," she said, but her eyes landed on Elias' smile and she frowned. "Though… no matter what disguise you wear, your smile will always be fake."
Elias gasped, his fingers touching the frozen smile on his face. "It doesn't look real? What about this?" He showed his white teeth to her and she frowned a little more.
"Fake."
"Huh? Then what should I do to make it look real? I can't smile more than this, it is uncomfortable and it hurts my cheeks and- ack! N-Nohoho! Nohohot thihihis!"
"I think we can only do this."
Elias cringed away from Chise's hands, but she easily followed him, smiling brightly and giggling sweetly as her fingers danced around Elias' ribs, making him cackle, little tears if laughter already at the corner of his eyes.
Chise felt a little breathless. Elias really looked nice in this disguise, she definitely liked him better than with blond hair. He somehow looked younger and full of life. She liked it.
"Ahahahaha! Ch-Chihihisehehe! Hahahave mehehehercy!"
Chise didn't know how, but she was nearly straddling Elias as he laid against the surface of the couch, squirming and laughing vibrantly. His rich, deep laughter filled the house and her heart.
She giggled softly when she found a very ticklish spot on his highest ribs that had him shrieking with laughter. After tickling him for a few seconds, she finally stopped, sitting properly as Elias tried to control his giggling and get himself back up.
"Chihise," he said a little out of breath. "You often doho this, do you like to see me suffer so much?"
Chise smiled, shaking her head. "I like your laugh."
"Well, I also like yours, Chise."
Before she could even think about escaping, Elias had caught her by the waist and was gently tickling her sides, making her giggle brightly.
"Nahahahat mehehe!" She laughed, trying to free herself from his hold. "Ehehehliahahas!"
"I think your smile was a little fake, Chise. Let me help you with that just like you did."
"I don't need- ahahahaha! N-Nahahahaha!"

Same vein as my last post
these bios are fucking hysterical, Richie's hand is always blocking at least one of them so I'm just gonna transcribe them below.
ZOEY CHAMBERS (Henrietta) is humbled beyond words to be a part of this groundbreaking production. Zoey has been entrancing audiences for years with her portrayal of badass girl-bosses like Sandy from Grease and Fantine from Les Miserables. Zoey would like to thank her brother, Zack, for giving her the acting bug all the way back in third grade! It's ironic that Zack thought he was the actor of the family, but Zoey would go on to completely overshadow him in every way. Suck to suck, doesn't it, Zachary? Zoey would also like to thank her roommate and follow cast member, Hailey! Hailey is perfectly cast in her very small and inconsequential part. The role of Marge is just so uninteresting and one dimensional that it helps mask Hailey's limited range as an actress, as well as other flaws, such as not being pretty enough to pull off an ingénue. Enjoy the show and be sure to check out Zoey's Only Fans for spicy pics, JOIs, and other lewd content!
HAILEY DILMORE (Marge) is so lucky to be part of the best cast in the world! She has no idea how she managed to worm her way into this talented group of ladies! You may recognize Hailey as Pink Lady from Grease or Disciple #3 from Godspell. Hailey would like to thank her fellow cast member, Zoey Chambers. Zoey has been an inspiration, a mentor, and above all, a friend. She's also like to thank her parents and her dog, Walter. Also, she'd like to apologize to the cast once again for blowing up the bathroom every single day during rehearsal. She's so sorry she made it stink so bad that everybody had to cross the street to use the toilet in Bank of America. She really doesn't know what's happening to her bowels. She's going to the doctor after the show closes to get everything sorted out. Enjoy the show!
RUTH FLEMING (Secretary #4) is so fucking stoked for her acting debut! This is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I mean, her. Ruth ran lights for her school's shitty production of The Barbeque Monologues and was also the Assistant Stage Manager for The Wizard of Oz ... it sucked. She got bullied and excluded by the whole cast, even though her job was just as important as theirs! More important, actually! Being in the cast is way better. You don't have to think of an excuse to barge into the dressing rooms. You can just waltz right in! Everybody just takes off their shirts and lets their titties tumble free! It's the most awesome thing I've ever seen... I mean, she's ever seen. Anyways, Ruth doesn't wanna thank anybody because nobody ever did anything for her.
CASSANDRA KING (Eve) is elated to be present with you fellow vessels in these fleeting moments. Everything has transpired exactly as the lights in they sky foretold. Cassie had never been a believer in prophecy or the ethereal spaces between... but she's seen too much to deny the truth now. She no longer fears the visions, or the pain that comes with their descent. Pain is the price of knowledge. Pain is the language that unites the children of Az'zoxish, no matter which star they may hail from. Cassie wants to see what lies at the end of the cold hall. She's ready to see the face of the girl screaming in the dark. How did she find herself aboard? And what is the destination of such a magnificent ship? Is tonight the night Cassie departs? The lights give no answer. And so she waits for deliverance. Cassie would also like to thank her boyfriend, Chris.

oooo angsty, huh?
How about 'silent.'
TW: Aftermath of strangulation attempt, domestic violence
--
Colt glances at Ken from his spot on the loveseat. The former doll is curled into a tight ball on Gloria and Ryan's couch, blue eyes staring blankly at nothing.
Ken's eyes are normally bright and expressive, but now they're vacant. Is this what he looked like when Barbie and Gloria found him? Vacant expression, lifeless eyes, desperately clinging to normal?
But nothing is normal. The purple splotches that litter his neck are a cruel reminder. Ken was clinging to life when Gloria and Barbie discovered him on his cold hardwood floor. Colt was halfway across the world, but the nightmarish scene seared itself into his brain.
If Ken notices him staring, he doesn't say anything. His skin is pale, and the bruises stand out more. Other than a whispered greeting, the man hasn't uttered a word. Even the simple hello had been nothing more than a garbled croak.
"His vocal cords are damaged," Barbie said, wringing her hands nervously. Her blonde hair is limp and lifeless, dark circles permeating her eyelids. How long has she been awake for? "He can't talk. He sounds bad."
The human brain is a cruel beast. The conversation with Barbie rewinds so often that Colt's certain he can hear it. They're having the conversation again, aren't they? He aches to hear Ken's voice, deep and crystal clear, ringing with laughter. A silent Ken is eerie. The doctors are confident that his voice will return, but they can't give a timeline.
Colt thinks about the guitar locked in Ken's closet, safe from Patrick's rampages. Music grounds him. It runs through his veins, the talent bestowed upon him by Ruth Handler six decades ago. Ken is a fantastic drum player, but guitar and singing are his first loves. He plucks the strings absentmindedly, hums to himself when he cooks.
Ken is the complete opposite of silence. Always talking, singing, humming, and Colt loves every moment of it. He doesn't care about horses, but God, Ken makes the creatures sound fascinating. He could listen to Ken talk about photography, his clients, his new ring light and it sucks and I spent so much money on it! Colt would gladly give Ken his own vocal cords if it meant getting to hear him ramble through Shameless again.
I'm sorry for getting annoyed, he thinks. I won't do it again.
There's a sharp intake of breath. Colt's head snaps upward, locking eyes with Ken. His hand is outstretched, fear etched all over his face. Colt swallows and offers him a soft smile before joining him on the couch. Ken sighs and lets his eyes flutter shut as he rests his head in Colt's lap. Colt threads his fingers through his hair.
They've never needed many words between them. Colt almost always knows what Ken wants.
Even through eerie, oppressive silence.

And finally Any Way The Wind Blows reread...
I really dislike Matali. Like of the the Adults who should have seen The Mages abuse, she is on the top and she is throwing it back in Penny's face!?? (f*ck Matali Bunce)
*sobbing* but also I love angst so also
Dev is a Pitch?!? Idk why but I thought he was a Grimm (tho I did read the fanfic rebel rebel just b4 starting my reread so maybe that's my confusion)
How long is Simon's tail? I'm pretty sure that based on how it's described to twist around things it's gotta be like the same length Simon is tall (5 foot whatever)...
"He already gave me a sword, but I'm not magickal enough to call it." (page 6) this is so sad, I remember seeing a tweet from Rainbow saying the Sword of Mages was still in him he just couldn't call it and just that makes me want to cry for Simon
i love that Fiona continues to use the numpty joke with Baz because that is such a real family thing to do (page 14)
Premal and Simon should have a talk... they both have very complicated feelings about the Mage (i mean Simon wins but)
Poor Penny. she used to solve all of Simons problems and now she can't so she feels useless
"I'm ready to let go - to be me again. The me I thought I was before the Mage ever showed up." (page 37)
"I hate the sight of him. All I see is what I've lost- who I was. His match." (page 62) this f*cked me up because its a call back to CO when Baz says he loves that Simon is screwed up because "they match" and that quotes is VERY popular...
"I know I'll never love anyone like I love Baz. I know he's the love of my life. Of all my lives" "This was my life to find love. The truest love. The biggest. Buti it isn't my life to have it." "I'm too... broken. I don't know how to be close to people." (page 65)
we need for Fiona moments. the fact that she is marrying a vampire but can't ask Baz if he needs to feed? (page 82)
lol Simon showing up unannounced again and commenting on Baz's clothes (page 87)
Simon cuts so deep but i love it because it's real and he is telling everything so Baz knows
"I didn't get to keep anything... What did I get to keep, Baz?" (page 91) i think this hurts even more because he still thinks he's removing his wings and tail. to literally at this moment he doesn't think he got to keep anything: his magic, his mentor, his friends, his purpose in life, the safety that came with knowing what comes next
when Simon tells Baz he loves him to me the tone from Baz questioning it was even sadder because he wasn't just questioning Simon saying it but (to me) it seemed like a question that anyone would tell Baz that
headcanon that not only was Simon deprived of a magical childhood he also didn't have a normal one so he doesn't know things like Disney movies (or really used a cell phone)
i love that Baz switches between Simon and Snow regularly even in his own thoughts
gosh this book has the snowbaz bants that i've been looking for. referencing when they were enemies but now in a funny/ cute way
"'Christ, Baz, I never thought I was straight. I never thought about it at all.'" (page 127)
""I met him the usual way.' 'You chased him off the road?'" (page 167)
i love that there isn't really any comparisons between the Salisbury's and Simon until the end. it's not shoving it in your face if you can't remember the first book (no bronze hair like Simon or Ruth eats like Simon - there is a moment where it is mentioned that Jamie sucked at reading and talking and Simon thinks same but it is Simon thinking it not a comparison someone else is thinking)
is the light touch over simulation or has Simon just never been touched gently before so he doesn't understand it...
""I can touch you less gently, but I won't love you less kindly.'" (page 222)
when Ruth gives the glasses to Simon i remember on my first read i though that was how Simon was going to get his magic back...
i'm 80% sure Lady Ruth was ready to adopt Simon before she know he was Lucy's son and i'm 85% sure she would be very fine with them using the glasses for.... other purposes
the Demon turning to Penny after and basically winking as saying call me...
"'..it was children who brought down the Mage!'" (page 399) i think we need to talk about this more. the fact that Fiona is ok with it but all the Kids have BIG trauma about it all (and f*ck Matali again for victims blaming the Kids)
Simon using a pet name for Baz 😍😍
"'And you don't have to wear a jacket in the middle of June. Do you know how jealous I am?'" (page 407)
(something half baked about chosen ones being warm to the touch)
Baz wearing this boyfriends ex girlfriends sweatshirt
a note that Simon couldn't feel magic at all after Smith zapped him
so Smith's spell.... does it imply that you can waste magic? if you only have so much? or...
so what is Simon.... is he sorta a dragon?
Notes for Snow for Christmas
i love that this exists so we can see happy snowbaz without them doing chosen one shit
i love and hate that Baz tells Simon he is coming back after a fight (page 222)
i've decided that they should tell Lady Ruth about Baz's vamp thing because she would probably blink and then offer to keep blood in the fridge for when he visits. and she wouldn't tiptoe around it either
i like that Simon takes some responsibility to not drink because he kinda has a problem with it
Question... did Baz know he was a vampire before his teeth came in..? cuz knowing his family idk if they would have told him...
do Baz's siblings know he is a vampire? Simon asks but it isn't really answered...

had a discussion in school about paradise lost and my teacher brought up that Barbie and Paradise Lost have some similarities
barbieland is eden and real world is real world, in barbieland, everyone lives in a really idealistic paradise where they don't even have enough information to know that they're doing anything wrong
weird house is the tree of life/knowledge cause it's like the one thing in barbieland that anyone in barbieland thinks is bad
weird barbie herself is also the tree of knowledge because she just knows everything
weird barbie is also satan in this analogy because she gives barbie the birkenstock and convinces her to go to real world
the birkenstock is the fruit
ruth handler is god (main difference here is that ruth never told anyone that weird barbie is bad they decided that on their own because ruth doesn't try to control her creation like that)
the board of mattel are the angels trying to stop barbie from leaving eden
a big theme is how just gaining knoweledge gives barbie a choice to choose barbieland or real world and she chooses real world. paradise lost has the theme of having knoweledge allows you to have choice between good and evil which is what makes the real world different from paradise
also another reading through ken. he is eve and satan I will explain eve first
ken is tempted by either the century club or horses to learn about patriarchy
century club and/or horses are satan here
patriarchy books are the fruit
ken gaining knowledge of patriarchy leads him to have his first real choices where at first he chooses objectively bad things like establishing patriarchy in barbieland and brainwashing all the barbies, but later on he can also choose to discover who he really is
now the satan reading
ken feels like a fallen angel / fallen ken because he can't even get the attention of Barbie (she was having an existential crisis and didn't owe him anything and did nothing wrong but that's irrelevent to Ken's feelings)
in this reading Barbie is god and ken, like satan, is a fallen angel because of the following events which he did because he was jealous of whatever Barbie paid attention to
ken learning about patriarchy gives him the knowledge of a big bad thing to tempt other kens to do
ken tempts other angels (kens) to help him and takes over heaven (barbieland) by establishing patriarchy
god (sterotypical barbie) comes back and like wtf and, with the help of other angels (barbies) takes back heaven and rejects satan (patriarchy version of ken)
difference here though is that barbie is much more merciful than god and rather than throwing all the kens in what is essentially eternity torture jail, they get another chance and she gives ken guidance
so like, garden of eden barbie
yeah

Star Trek Monthly, #91 (2002)
A Good Reed by Paul Simpson and Ruth Thomas
Taking your first few tentative steps into the wilds of space is a daunting prospect, particularly when there are all sorts of nasties out there. So, there's no better person to have at your side than a first class tactical officer who knows all about the business end of a phaser.
"I nagged my dad rotten to get the first colour telly in our street so I could see Star Trek in colour," Dominic Keating reveals. "I was absolutely gobsmacked when Spock's shirt was blue!"
Star Trek was an important part of Keating's early life - whether watching the "fried eggs fall off the civic walls" in Star Trek: The Original Series' Operation: Annihilate!, or being inveigled into the universe of Star Trek: The Next Generation when his housemate would only allow that one programme to be watched on his satellite system. Kirk's "various Helen of Troy girlfriends, in their flowing chiffon, were my first foray into, 'Phwoar! She's nice!" while his interest in Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard was piqued by seeing "an English actor in an American show". A friend tried to entice him to watch Star Trek: Voyager by describing Seven of Nine in glowing detail, but Keating carefully explains that, "I'm really surprised and pleased that yes, it is Star Trek that we're doing on Enterprise, but it is also really distinctly different from Voyager."
Now, 18 episodes into the filming of Enterprise's first season, Keating has come over to the UK to promote the series' launch on Sky One - and to catch up with old friends, family and the latest plays in London's West End. As he admits, he's becoming more and more used to the frenzy that surrounds Star Trek after some initial reservations. "I've done three conventions now: I'm the convention queen, actually! There was a certain amount of trepidation for the first one or two, but by the third one I was in a stride. It's like interviews, once you get into doing them, you just free up and let yourself come through."
There aren't many interviewees who punctuate the discussion with a free vocal rendition of their series' theme tune, but Keating will warble à la Russell Watson at a moment's notice. "It's my convention opener," he admits. "They always say, 'We haven't got the soundtrack', and I say, 'No worries - give me the mike!'"
The relaxed atmosphere on the Enterprise set clearly suits Keating. "There's a great energy," he points out. "Right from the get-go at the read through, when we all met that one time. We just had a simpatico and a generosity. None of us took each other too seriously, and there was some good gentle ribbing."
As he leans backwards and forwards on the hotel bedroom chair, gesticulating wildly to make his points, his own energy is very evident, and he's starting to bring that out in Malcolm Reed. "I'm learning to free him up a bit," he says. "I'm not frightened to have him be contratictory. He doesn't have to be this quintessential, buttoned-down, by the book English guy, who's shy of girls. He can also be all that I am. God knows, each in our own way, we are all a multitude and a mass of contradictions. I'm glad they didn't shoot me out of the gate as quickly as they did with one or two of the other characters. I didn't have to make my mind up and make those split second decisions about the character, what his likes and dislikes were, and how he would react in given moments. It's been a nice trickle up from the boots, right up to the Prada Right Stuff boiler suit!"
Keating has enjoyed the pace. "It's changed a lot, even in seven months," he explains. "The first time I ever see myself play a particular role on screen, it's always a shock. And God knows it was, on that big screen at Paramount, which is 35-feet high! It wasn't even on a fuzzy little telly so I could hide behind the sofa. It takes me two or three viewings until I start to think that I wasn't so bad in it. It was a little bit disconcerting the first time though. What really got me though, was the scene in the temporal room. I really got excited, because suddenly this pilot looked like a movie. I was really proud that I was in something that was bloody good, and not just some TV sci-fi show. It really looked expensive and exciting. The hairs on the back of my neck went up, and the reaction afterwards in the foyer at Paramount was just so good."
Most of the discoveries about Reed have been as much a surprise to the actor when he receives the scripts as they are to the viewer on transmission.
"There was a time when I was getting a little worried that Malcolm was getting left out of things," he admits. "And that this first thrust of the triumvirate of Archer, Trip and T'Pol, which they obviously had as a game plan, was going to be the plan for the duration. I didn't say anything, but I started to get a little antsy. But luckily I just showed up, I was of service, and did the best with what they gave me. And it worked out, because they started looking at the dynamic between me and other characters, particularly Trip, and they got right on it. There were a couple of scenes in an episode, at about the one-third mark, where it was obvious that as actors he and I had a certain chemistry. We just finished a wonderful episode where we are in a room together on Shuttlepod One. It's him and me for 50 pages, and I never thought I would get that kind of experience and be presented with that kind of challenge as an actor on Enterprise. I've done some really hard-hitting plays here in London - new plays and award-winning stuff - and this was equal to that. And, of course, it's in front of a camera, so you know that instead of an audience of 900, it's going to be seen by an audience of millions. That's exciting!"
Keating is still getting a buzz from the role. "When I walk through what they call the Godfather Alley between Stage 8 and Stage 16 and I turn around, there's the Paramount water tower in the background. I get to my trailer with my name in embossed italics on the door...May that feeling I get never end, and I mean to keep that as close to my heart for as long as I can. There may come a day when that isn't there anymore, so I have to be really aware of it right now."
The cast are all now finding their feet with their characters, and Keating passes on a word of advice that executive producer Brannon Braga gave him. "We were standing outside in the sunshine, and he said, 'Don't be frightened to say to a director that you actually know this better than him. Thanks for the suggestion but that's not going to work in this scene.'" As it's transpired, Keating can't recall a time he's needed to put that into operation, and he has nothing but praise for the various directors who have worked on the show. "Rick Kolbe was wonderful to work with," he enthuses. "I really got on with him. He was open to discussion about the tone and tenor of some scenes. My natural inclination as an actor is sometimes to overact. I grew up as a stage actor, and if you do that in front of a camera, it looks ridiculous."
Keating explains that there's a difference between being a guest actor on a show, as he's done on numerous occasions, and being a series regular. "To be honest, I was still a novice when I came to do Enterprise," he admits. "I hadn't done 15 episodes back-to-back on a drama in front of a camera. I'd done a half-hour sitcom here in London, but that's a whole different ball game. It's a totally different dance. The camera still held a certain fear for me. I wasn't playing to it, but now, I have to say, I'm getting quite good at understanding the language of film and the camera's part in the production process. You play the scene between two people, but open up ever so slightly to let the audience in when you know that it's dramatically right.
"[Laurence] Olivier used to talk about the three 'I's: there's part of you as an actor that knows you are an actor playing a part, there's part of you that must be the part, and there's part of you that knows you are an actor playing a part in front of an audience and never forgets that. The camera is your audience, and I'm slowly and surely growing to really love that audience."
Indeed, Keating loves the camera to the extent that he has started attending the LA Film School, learning how to direct. "I want to take that to Rick Berman, and he'll probably go, 'Oh God, another actor who wants to direct!' I heard that there was this opportunity if you really show the intention, and if you nag him enough, he'll let you do it."
Keating reveals that various scenes in the pilot had to be re-shot after Paramount Pictures studio head Kerry McCluggage queried the hairstyles, particularly "Scott [Bakula's] little beatnik, trendy young haircut, so they gave him a side parting."
Ask about his favourite experience, and without hesitation Keating nominates Shuttlepod One. "I can't tell you how excited I was," he says. "And I get excited when Marvin Rush gets excited. Our director of photography is one of the old hands on the show, and particularly when he's got the camera on his back and he is part of the scene with you, it gets his juices going. I get really excited when I see this 16-year veteran of the franchise get excited about what he's filming."
The conditions under which the episode was shot were different as well. "It was something else!" Keating recalls. "We had three days in an igloo that they built for us. In the show, we'd turned the thermostat down to preserve our oxygen: we're running out of oxygen fast and we're floating in space. They placed six or seven huge air-conditioning units with dry ice everywhere, and put the pod on plinths. They wanted the breath gag, where you can see our breath, but even with dry ice packed everywhere, it wasn't doing it, so before each take one of the prop guys was filling the shuttlepod with liquid nitrogen out of this huge gaping pipe. We were literally frozen to the bone for three days straight, for 15-hour days, but there was something so wonderful about the camaraderie and getting the job done. Connor [Trinneer, a.k.a. Trip] and I put some good stuff in the camera that week. I was worn out when it was over, but the morning after, I'd have got up and done it all again!"
Keating has high hopes for Reed's character development as the seasons progress. "There is some sort of sense that he is an enigma," he says. "I can see in Malcolm, somewhere in that repression, there is a passion that can't quite find its way out. People are going to read this and go, 'It's Star Trek, kiddo!' and yes, it is Star Trek, kiddo, but maybe it will be different. I think Brannon Braga is going to like writing for Malcolm Reed. I think he is the most interesting character on the ship!"

tmc queer headcanons because why not I s'pose
by the way don't ship anyone or I will put you in the cube. the BAD one
general orientation stuff:
Mark's aroace, uses he/him pronouns, and has trans vibes but I'm not totally sure? maybe agender. Cesar's pan, trans, maybe poly or ambiamorous? and fine with any pronouns (genderfluid before the word for that existed because. he died before 1994) but prefers he/him most of the time (can be very fem presenting though! lots of eyeliner and dresses n such. they're rocking it)
just for sillies, the whole BPS is bi. Evelin's bi and prefers guys (she's not DIRECTLY part of the 'Society but still), Sarah's bi and prefers girls, Jonah's bi and ALSO prefers guys, and Adam's quoiromantic bi-ace because I've gotta project onto SOMEBODY
Evelin uses she/her and sometimes they/them if she feels like it, Sarah's a transgirl and uses she/her, Jonah's a transguy and uses he/they, and Adam is Adam. (we don't. we don't know what he has going on but he prefers he/him)
Thatcher's ALSO bi (trans, he/him), Ruth is demi and cishet (she/her), and Dave's aroace n agender (I dunno why I feel like both of Alex's characters are aroace? they just. those are the Vibes yknow?). they also occasionally use they/them but usually he/him
all of the alts besides Adam are triple a - aro, ace, agender (get it? because. 333-) and use they/it but I think Gabriel and Six play around with he/him as well
additional things 'cause why not:
Mark and Cesar are stupid and codependent. thank you so much, mustang, for putting them permanently in my brain forever /lh, pos. also their dynamic is really funny because Cesar has like a guy draped over one arm a gal on the other and Mark's like "I don't get it but ok cool" I dunno I laugh thinking about that kind of interaction. they also would probably joke about how Mark let Cesar have all of his gender if they actually knew what that meant
bisexual pride society. that's it that's all I have to say about them
Ruth probably said she was an ally and didn't identify as demisexual because she didn't know that was a thing and died before the term was even coined, but if she did she'd be like "omg that's me!" and now I'm making myself sad thinking about it
Ruth also dated a girl once but ultimately decided it wasn't her thing (I imagine they're still really good friends tho!) because it's okay to try stuff out and decide it doesn't fit you
Dave never needed no bitches, but he does give surprisingly good dating advice (got it by watching Thatcher struggle all through high school. Thatcher, for the record, gives AWFUL advice.)
also the mcp3 went to a pride rally at least once before things went to shit. they deserve it
#seriously DO NOT SHIP. I will come into your home and not in a fun way <333 thank you#but feel free to ask abt stuff 'cause half of these I kinda made up on the spot because Vibes and I might change some later. we'll see#happy pride month y'all#bisexual#aromantic#asexual#agender#pansexual#transgender#demisexual#lgbtq+#tmc headcanons
