So, the ask, tell us a story about your nick name😏

My nickname? Ah you mean my account name I guess. Because I don't have a nickname (other than Droid, which obviously comes from do-androids-dream). Anyway, I've told this story often but I love to tell it: I love Dick. Yeah, Philip K. Dick that is :) Today, I'll elaborate. This was him:

He was a famous Science Fiction author, and a pretty strange man, I think. Traumatized in his youth, he was a paranoid lover of drugs, some of his stories he created under the influence of LSD (and later, he even had visions after a proper dose of barbiturates). Born in 1928, he was both a visionary and a child of his times. In his novels, there's hardly any women, and most of them are secretaries or half-naked. Yeah, he could write about living on Mars, but he could not imagine a future with women beyond being accessories... At least that's what you might think if you inspect his work. If you've never read him consider that many of his stories were published in the 50s, and they of course mirror the mindset of that time. Anyway, I'm obsessed with his stories, I have his complete edition and a couple of more books.

Some might have not read him but seen works inspired or based on his, like The Man in the High Castle or Minority Report. Or even Blade Runner 2049. We're coming full circle now, because yes, my username is part of the title of Dick's famous story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". Which is the template for Blade Runner, at least the original movie... I've never seen 2049. But I'm assuming, hoping, it's not too far from the original idea: what makes us human?
