I took a look at some of my favorite ships across TV and movies, and I discovered that apparently there is a very specific type of ship that I like, which all feature the same two character molds and have striking similarities with each other:
Character A: Snarky/moody boy with daddy issues
Is emotionally damaged/hardened to the world, but underneath has a heart of gold. Has trouble opening up and trusting people. EVERY one of them had their dad leave them and it fucked them up, which they reacted to in various ways. Probably never thought they'd find someone who loved them. Bonus points if he's the "cool guy" but the cool guy act is actually a complete front. Absolute soft boy on the inside.
Chandler Bing (Friends)
Barney Stinson (HIMYM)
Steven Hyde (That '70s Show)
Eddie Miller (House of Anubis)
Jonathan Byers (Stranger Things)
Character B: Unhinged bossy girl who can kick his ass
Has a VERY strong personality, knows what she wants, often is very loud. She is In Charge and the boy is okay with that. Most of them are independent, some are career-driven, and most are out here girlbossing. All of them have probably been referred to as a bitch and every single one of them is high-strung and at any time is moments away from snapping. I'm fairly certain they've all gotten into some kind of physical alteration at some point. Do not give her a weapon for your own safety.
Monica Geller (Friends)
Robin Scherbatsky (HIMYM)
Jackie Burkhart (That '70s Show)
Patricia Williamson (House of Anubis)
Nancy Wheeler (Stranger Things)
Of course not all these relationships are the same. Some of these are friends to lovers, some are enemies to lovers. Three of them involved secret relationships, three of them are two prongs of a love triangle. They don't all last thanks to terrible writing decisions (imo) and have different journeys. But at their cores, they all feature two fucked up people who find each other, and they all embrace the weirdness and let each others' freak flags fly. The guys challenge, soothe, and understand their girls, and the girls whip the guys into shape (well, most of them do, at least). The girl is the light of the cynical moody guy's life and opened up their hearts (save for Eddie and Patricia who I would argue is the other way around), and the guy is happy to stand back and let the girl give you the what-for.
I could go on and get into the details and cite specific moments of similarities in many of these relationships but I'll leave it there. All this to say I was kinda shocked when I realized there were so many similarities in some of my favorite ships. Evidently I have a type. And tbh I don't know what it says about me and my interests or personal desires that I am apparently drawn to this type of relationship.
#some of these i had to stretch just a little#but in general all these characters fit under the character molds#and these relationships all fall under the same umbrella#tbh katniss and peeta could maybe very loosely fall under this too#but loosely#and this is not just about me and the ships i enjoy#this is also a fun comparison between all these sitcoms and other shows#idk it was fun to lay all these out and pick them apart#mondler#chandler bing#monica geller#swarkles#jackie x hyde#peddie#patricia williamson#eddie miller#house of anubis#jancy#jonathan byers#nancy wheeler#tbh there are maybe a few other things i ship that could possibly fit under this umbrella#but these are the ones i felt fit best#i spent WAY too long putting this together but i had fun#it was also impossible to pick what mondler photo i wanted to include

I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE MARVELS.
But I’ll refrain from direct spoilers for now. It’s mildly spoiler-y maybe but very generalized and I’m gonna talk around some stuff. 😅
The nutshell?
It’s legit SO fun. It’s a fun, funny as hell, really ENJOYABLE time at the movies. I laughed. Got misty. Felt feels. And wow… THE CAMEOS!!! 🔥
This movie is for everybody. Families should have a great time. But fangirls especially will LOVE. Highly recommend for a SMILE. 😸
Cool action. Great music. Lovable cast (I will adore Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan forever). Laugh out loud moments. I loved it. It didn’t unnecessarily waste time nor stretch anything out. It’s just under 2 hours and it WORKS.
Look, yeah it’s blah blah random plot lore lore etc but it opens up for the future while giving a blast of a ride in the present (and nods to the past). 😉
Go. Now. 👍
And stay for the mid-credit scene!
Lastly, IMO, it’s all very queer coded. Baity even. THAT 🎶 scene was the one iffy thing for me. Kinda silly, and really felt like a “no homo” for the straights but a wink wink and super coded for the LGBTQs. “Marriage of convenience” … 🤐💀 Anyway it’s pretty clear Carol and Valkyrie definitely hooked up. And we all know Maria was so totally her partner before, because come on already… Monica is her dang daughter, that “Aunt” shit ain’t flyin’. And Kamala is hardcore CRUSHIN’ on Carol. 😂
Also one of the cameos at the end. Of all characters they chose the one people are also shipping with another female character, played by an actress beloved by the sapphics for her previous queer roles? And the cats?! So many cats. 💀 Plus Valkyrie in a suit? SAPPHICS RISE.
This entire movie was a whole fruit basket but in a way that slides past heteronormative audiences so “families can still enjoy” (🙄) but that’s a whole other ramble (or rant) for another day.
In the meantime… it’s so fun, y’all. Please GO. It’s important to support projects like these or they’ll keep pulling back on women and POC in these things. Even though the strike impacted promotion and the butthurt fragile misogynists are trying to review bomb (as always). It’s legit a fun time and if you hated it I have to just assume you hate fun, so. Go. See it. Spread the word. 🙏

9-1-1 REACTION
There are two types of 9-1-1 viewers. There’s the viewer who tunes in every week to watch our beloved 118 respond to one bizarre emergency after the other. Then there’s the other type of viewer. This viewer watches to see what’s going on with Sergeant Athena Nash and Captain Bobby Nash and the rest of the gang. It should be no surprise I fall into the latter group. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the emergencies. Who can resist a tsunami slamming into the Santa Monica Pier or Buck pulling a tapeworm out of a guy’s ass? While all of that is fun, I enjoy watching the character development.
This week was the best of both worlds. We got a mass casualty event at a mega church and a creepy call involving a woman buried alive by her husband. We also saw Bobby reunite with his mother and older brother, and the return of Tommy Kinard. But, as usual, I’m getting ahead of myself. This reaction is for the season 8, eleventh episode “Holy Mother of God” which originally aired on March 20, 2025. The episode was written by Taylor Wong and Derek Cioch and directed by the goddess herself, Aisha Hinds. Without further ado, let’s jump into the episode.
We begin the episode with Buck. He’s just finished moving out of the loft he’s been in since season 2 into Eddie’s house. I thought it was interesting that he hired movers instead of enlisting the help of Bobby, Chimney, Hen, and Ravi. I’m sure Athena and Karen would’ve lent a helping hand. Or maybe he did ask, and they all said ‘no’. Buck doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to put his things away and shows up at his sister’s place with an overnight bag and some homemade baked goods. He asks if he can stay there overnight, and Maddie doesn’t hesitant to invite him inside. I thought this part was adorable. It reminded me of a kid asking their parents if they can sleep with them.
Title card.
We then get our first emergency of the episode. We head over to a church where a pastor (played by Lesley Ann Warren) is performing miracles on her congregants. Things are going okay until people start falling out and not because of the Holy Spirit. The 118 arrive without masks which I found odd considering they didn’t know what they were walking into, and Buck figures out there’s a carbon monoxide leak due to a generator inside the church. Thankfully, no one is injured but one of the congregants ends up climbing the cross on top of the church and Buck has to rescue her. The moment where the two are reaching for each other reminds me of that painting where God is reaching for Adam. It’s a mostly comedic scene until we find out that the pastor and her son are actually Bobby’s mom and older brother, respectively.
“I just thought you were moving into Eddie’s house not ours.” – Howie “Chimney” Han”
Next, we head back over to Maddie and Chimney’s place. Buck is camping out on the sofa … again. Chimney makes a snarky joke about it and Buck tells his sister that he can go stay in a hotel. Maddie tells him she likes having him there. It makes her feel safe. She gets this faraway, distant look in her eye and Buck reminds her that Amber Braeburn is not coming back. In true Maddie fashion, she changes the subject by telling her baby brother that eventually he’s going to have to sleep in his new place. Buck tells her the reason he’s having a hard time adjusting to his new place is because he doesn’t feel like it’s his place. It’s Eddie’s place. The house is just a reminder that his best friend is gone. Maddie suggests he make new friends.
“We don’t speak because every time we do, I get this kink in my neck that last for, like, a month.” – Bobby Nash
Meanwhile, over at Bobby and Athena’s new place, which is still under construction, Athena receives the news of Bobby’s family being alive pretty well. She asks him when he was planning on telling her that his mother wasn’t dead. Bobby says that he never said that she was. Still, Athena feels that the lack of ever mentioning his mother is what lead to her thinking that she was dead. Bobby tells her he doesn’t like thinking about his mother and doesn’t want her in his life. He explains that his mother is a fraud and a con-artist, and he’s embarrassed by her. He then tells Athena the last time he spoke to Ann Nash was right before he and Marcy got married. The next time Ann reached out to him was through a letter she sent after the apartment fire. Bobby is clearly hurt by his mother and Athena believes there’s a reason they were brought back together.
“Yeah, I am a fun guy, but you’re just now noticing this?” – Ravi Panikkar
Buck takes Maddie’s advice and approaches Ravi at the firehouse. He asks Ravi to hang out and the latter is highly suspicious of Buck’s intentions. I want to pause here and say I’m not a fan of how the show treats Ravi. Ravi has been somewhat of an outside since he joined the 118 and, much to my annoyance, this episode he is used as a plot device. My boy deserves better. #JusticeForRavi.
Charlie Nash (played by Sean O’Bryan) shows up at the station looking for Bobby. It’s been years since they’ve seen each other, and the brothers fill each other in on what’s going on in their lives. Bobby tells his older brother about Athena and Charlie mentions that he’s been married (and divorced) three times. He goes on to say that he’s pretty much devoted his life to following their mother around. Charlie tells Bobby that Ann wants to see him and invites him to lunch. Bobby is reticent but Charlie says that he and their mother will only be in town for three days. Charlie hands Bobby his card and gets up. He tells Bobby that their father would be proud of him. As Charlie leaves, Bobby reaches for the business card and starts to get a pain in his neck.
Bobby and Athena go to Ann’s hotel room the next day before heading to lunch. Ann tells them that their reservation isn’t until three, so they have plenty of time to chat. It doesn’t take long before Bobby and his mother are trading barbs. Athena tries to play the referee while Charlie just sits back and watches the two of them snipe at each other. Bobby disengages and Ann uses the opportunity to cozy up to his wife. She asks Athena about her religious affiliation. Athena tells her she is Southern Baptist. Okay, I want to pause here. Having grown up Baptist, I’ve long believed there are two types of Baptists. Southern Baptist (white people) and Black Baptist (black people). While I was growing up, a lot of the Southern Baptist churches around where I lived were synonymous with the Ku Klux Klan which is why I found it jarring that Athena referred to herself as a Southern Baptist.
“He made his own choices, and I will not apologize for leaving.” – Ann Hutchinson
Ann tells Athena that Bobby’s father was a Roman Catholic and that he used to drag Bobby and Charlie to Our Lady of the Sorrow – which doesn’t sound like a particularly joyful place. She makes a snide comment about Tim Nash needing to absolve his sins which immediately gets under Bobby’s skin. Charlie reminds Ann of her agreement to not bring up their dad. Ann is resentful of her youngest son’s deification of her ex-husband. She reminds Bobby that she protected him against his father. Bobby reminds her that she left. Ann reminds him that he chose to stay. Bobby tells her that he had to stay because someone needed to take care of his dad.
Things start to get really heated between mother and son and Athena suggests they start over. Bobby says it’s a little too late to start over. Charlie confesses that he lied to Bobby about their mother wanting to see him. He just wanted to play the peacemaker, which is admirable, albeit extremely misguided. You can’t expect two people who haven’t been on the same page in a very long time to suddenly let bygones be bygones. Bobby is upset because he thought his mother was finally going to take responsibility for abandoning him. In a beautiful moment, Bobby tells his mother that he’s worked so hard and so long to accept his failings along with those around him. He’s worked on forgiving himself and those who have hurt him. He then calls Ann a fraud. Not as a preacher but a mother. Mike drop.
“You know, I’ve been fighting the urge to call you for months.” – Tommy Kinard
Buck and Ravi go to a bar and have shots. Lots of shots. Buck spends most of their hang talking about Eddie much to the annoyance of Ravi. Ravi sees Tommy sitting at the bar and sees an exit strategy. He brings Tommy over to Buck and peaces out. His plot device services are no longer required. Well, ladies, gents, and non-binary icons – it’s the moment a lot of us have been waiting for. We finally got the reunion of Tommy and Buck and it did not disappoint.
The two quickly catch up. Tommy is surprised to hear that Eddie has moved back to El Paso. Buck is surprised to hear that Eddie stopped speaking to Tommy after the breakup. I felt really bad for Tommy in this moment. I don’t believe Buck would’ve minded Eddie remaining friends with Tommy but I guess this bit of information was mentioned to show Eddie’s loyalty? Tommy tells Buck that’s been fighting the urge to call him for months. Buck is delighted by this news. Tommy also says that he even drove by Buck’s loft. Buck tells Tommy that he’s recently moved. He asks Tommy if he wants to see it.
“You know, I don’t have to want to sleep with everyone I have feelings for and I don’t have to have feelings for everyone I sleep with.” – Evan Buckley
Crash cut to Buck and Tommy bursting through the front door, smashing into walls, tearing at each other’s clothes. It’s all done in silhouette which made the whole thing so much sexier. Shout out to Aisha who completely understood the assignment. The chemistry between these two reaches a fever pitch and Buck wakes up the next morning to so much food. Seriously, Tommy. That breakfast you made could’ve fed the entire 118, A and B shifts. Buck goes into the kitchen and hops on the counter, legs open with a wicked cast of Fuck Me hair. Our boys looks satiated and ready to eat a lot of carbs so they can go for round two. The mood sours quickly when Tommy mentions that the competition – aka Eddie – is gone. Buck takes immediate offense to the joke and goes for the jugular and basically says that he didn’t have to have feelings for Tommy to sleep with him. Way harsh, Tai. The message is received loud and clear, and Tommy makes his second exit but this time feels different than the last. Ugh! Two steps forward, one step back. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
“He’s been trying to bury me alive for 42 years.” – Suzanne Caldwell
Our next emergency was an odd one. A man’s life alert pendant makes a call to 9-1-1 saying that he has fallen and is unresponsive. The 118 arrive on the scene and they find the man named Elmer Caldwell (played by Ron Orbach) working in his garden. Elmer is experiencing shortness of breath and Hen and Chimney tend to him. Elmer says that he didn’t call for help, but Buck tells him that his pendant did. Elmer says the pendant is a nuisance and that his wife makes him wear it.
Speaking of wife, things take a horrific turn which a hand shoots out of the dirt and grabs Bobby’s ankle. Turns out, Ms. Caldwell (played by Miriam Flynn) is buried in the garden by her husband, but very much still alive. Elmer’s wife says the last thing she remembered was that she was eating sweet potato soup, but it had a funny smell. She started to get dizzy. Hen posits that she was poisoned by cyanide. Buck and Ravi restrain Elmer while his wife says that she gave up everything for him. In a shocking twist of fate, Elmer kills over and dies, and his wife lives. As she is loaded into the ambulance, she laments not getting out of her marriage sooner. Bobby hears what she says, and he starts to understand what his mother must’ve felt dealing with his alcoholic father.
“As much as everyone seems to want me to be hopelessly pining for my best straight friend, it just isn’t like that.” – Evan Buckley
Buck talks with Maddie about his night and morning after with Tommy. In true Buck fashion, he starts to spiral over what Tommy said and wonders if Tommy’s felt that way the entire time they were together. What I liked most about this scene is that Buck makes a reference to his straight best friend. This particular line of dialogue felt very pointed. It serves as a message for a certain group of folks who have been terrorizing the rest of us viewers for nearly seven years. Just in case you still haven’t picked up on the fact that Eddie Diaz is a heterosexual male even though we’ve been dropping solid hints since season 2, let us just outright say it. Buck tells us that it’s ridiculous for Tommy to think he’s pining for his best friend and you know what? I believe him. I think Buck thinks Eddie is attractive but that’s all. He is not in love with his best friend. He’s in love with Tommy. What I like most about this scene is that Buck has zero issue acknowledging that he crossed the line with his comment.
Maddie, per usual, gives her baby brother some shitty advice. She first suggests he should move out of Eddie’s house which doesn’t seem feasible at this point. She next suggests that he should be alone which I don’t think is the right choice either. Buck clearly wants to be in a relationship. He’s been ready to give himself to one person for a very long time now. Also, he’s been alone for at least three months already since the breakup. Are you saying he needs to be alone even longer, Maddie?
“It would take a miracle. Yes. All right. I recognize the irony.” – Ann Hutchinson
Bobby shows up to the church his mother is ministering at. He stands in the audience and watches as she admits to her congregation that she doesn’t have the power to heal. She collapses on stage and Bobby rushes to check on her. At the hospital, Bobby and Athena wait to hear news about Ann. Charlie provides an update. Ann is stable and fighting with the doctor. Bobby asks his older brother if their mother has collapsed before. Charlie tells Bobby that their mother is sick. Terminal. Bobby asks Charlie when he was planning on telling him. Charlie says never. He wanted to respect their mother’s wishes. He tells Bobby that when he showed up at the church, he believed it was a sign. A chance for mother and son to finally reconcile.
“It was wrong and I have been guilty of breaking half a commandment.” – Bobby Nash
Bobby goes to see his mom and asks her how she is feeling. She says she is fine but needs to be released because she has a speaking engagement in Las Vegas. Bobby confesses he knows about her cancer and tells her she needs sustained treatment which she cannot get if she is traveling all over the country. He asks her to stay in Los Angeles with him. Ann tells him she has Stage 4 cancer, and that treatment isn’t going to help her. She tells Bobby that him being at church meant so much to her. He tells her he came there to apologize. He didn’t want the words he said to her to be the last thing he said to her. Bobby apologizes and tells Ann that he hasn’t been fair to her. He says she was right to leave when she did. Ann apologizes for not saving her husband and says she’s missed Bobby. Bobby says he has missed her, too.
In our final scene of the episode, Buck returns to his new house and finally gets to work unpacking his things. Again, why isn’t anyone helping him? Maddie? Chim? Hen? Where y’all at? Buck also puts sheets on his bed which made me wonder, did he and Tommy raw dog the mattress? Yikes! We end the episode with Athena answering a call at The Odyssey ship. I will not be reacting to that episode. I still don’t know how I feel about Doctor Odyssey, but I will say that Joshua Jackson and Angela Bassett had some great chemistry.
We’re on a roll here! This week’s episode was so enjoyable. We haven’t really had a Bobby-centric plot all this season. I love that we got to meet his mother and his older brother which means that of the seven main characters (Athena, Bobby, Buck, Hen, Chimney, Maddie, and Eddie) we have officially met all the parents. I had my doubts about Bobby’s mom being a megachurch pastor, but it worked for the episode. I’m glad that Bobby got some closure, not only regarding he and his mom’s relationship but his relationship with his dad. I do hope we get to see Ann and Charlie again because I absolutely adore Lesley Ann Warren aka Miss Scarlet from Clue. I also think the actor who played Bobby’s brother, Charlie, did a great job as well. It was an interesting dynamic with him being the older brother who is supposed to be the protector but Bobby is the protector.
As for the reunion, I’m cautiously optimistic that Buck and Tommy will end up on top by the end of the season. Something that series creator Tim Minear said last year has really stuck with me. In an interview, he talked about giving Buck and Tommy the rom-com treatment. Well, we’re already over two-thirds through this rom-com. We got the meet cute and then the misunderstanding. In the last third of the movie, we get reconciliation which usually leads to a happy ending. I really hope we get a happy ending. Even the staunchest of Tommy detractors must admit that he and Buck’s chemistry is off the charts. I think every line shared between these two was very intentional even though a certain ship is trying to spin it in their favor. When Buck talked to Maddie the second time, what I heard was a confirmation of a certain character’s sexuality and a declaration that Buck was not in love with that character. In my opinion, this moment marks a major shift in the fandom and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Until next time…

Big appeal of LIS franchise is the soundtrack for me, was curious which of the games in the franchise have your personal soundtracks? Either generally or like fav to least fav whatever works (:
I LOVE this question. Let me get this out of the way first, I think LiS has the best collection of licensed songs in probably any piece of media, ever. It's such a distinct, special mix of fitting lyrics and memorable moods that these songs set. No matter how many genres they go past indie folk, it all still feels distinctly Life is Strange.
I still think the montage set to "Red" by Mt. Wolf in Life is Strange 2, episode 2 is one of the most underrated in the entire series. The cinematography is unmatched, especially its use of fake depth of field and shaky cam. These montages are sorely missing from the later games!!
"Obstacles" to me feels like the theme song of the series. I really wish the Bae ending wasn't as half-baked as it was, but it fits for the ending. I also love its original usage in the ending montage of episode 1. You can really feel LiS's influences of shows like Twin Peaks (which again, is sorely missing from DE) to mimick these TV montages, and it adds depth to this small setting by showing what the other characters are getting up to and noticing/not noticing the strange snow at the end of the episode.
From BtS, I love the acoustic version of "Taking You There" during the neighborhood scene and Rachel and Chloe's first kiss. It perfectly captures that youthful nervousness, teenage elation, and fragile joy when everything seems perfect, just before the plot plunges into much more intense territory.
From TC, I was disappointed how most of the licensed soundtracks were relegated to Moments of Calm with looping shots or background music, so I really liked "Don't Matter" by Kings of Leon for actually playing during a fun moment. It also adds characterization and depth because it was one of Alex and Gabe's favorite records, and it's beautiful to see them reconnect and be silly together like no time had passed. On the flip side "Thank You" by Dido was used so well for encapsulating the tension, nausea, and dread of Alex desperately trying to drown out her father and brother's arguing in the flashback, and how tragic her broken home life had become since her mother's death.
I wish more people still talked about Captain Spirit because I think DN was absolutely brilliant for making a free sandbox game about Chris before LiS2. I also think they were geniuses for incorporating "Death with Dignity" by Sufjan Stevens throughout the episode: the gentle instrumental opener and different verses at different points, but only if you took the time to explore and piece together Emily's backstory. For example, once you discover the box of photos, then the second verse "I forgive you, Mother..." plays. It's a gentle and melancholic tune that reminds me of Chris himself.
Finally, nothing is quite as iconic as Max stepping out into the hallway, putting in her earbuds, and the title screen emerging with "To All of You" by Syd Matters playing. It's such a perfectly unassuming welcome to a game that will proceed to hurl you upside the head with feels.
Other songs I want to shout-out:
"Kids Will be Skeletons" by Mogwai in LiS1
"Mountains" by Message to Bears in LiS1
"D.A.N.C.E" by Justice in LiS2
"Blister in the Sun" by Violent Femmes (covered by mxmtoon) in TC
"Through the Cellar Door" by Lanterns on the Lake in BtS
"A Hole in the Earth" by Daughter in BtS
"I Don't" by Koda in BtS
"Santa Monica Dream" by Angus & Julia Stone in LiS1
Thank you SO much for asking!!

DeadbyDad Loves: The Ironwood Section (Spoilers For God of War Ragnarök 2022)
I feel like I'm one of the only few people who loved the Ironwood section of God of War Ragnarök, which is fine because I get why some people didn't like this section.
I understand that yes it was a little long and could be somewhat boring at times, but I feel like people are just skipping over or even just ignoring the whole point of this section and just focusing on the negative parts and not mentioning the best moments of this whole section.
I love the fact that the section is to introduce to the players or the viewers who Angrboda is and how she is important to the games story, who and what she will be to Atreus, and how the two will interact and why they're important for each others stories and to each other in general, and to also get us to understand the two better in a lot of ways.
But I mostly love the fact that it's the first time we see Atreus just....get to be a kid, to be a teenager with someone his age which he's never had let alone met anyone else who isn't older than him by a long shot.
It's his first time having fun, making a friend with someone who he can relate to, and his first time not putting his whole life in danger.
Atreus just gets to be a kid for the first time in his life ever since his mother died and even before that, and it's just a breath of fresh air in my opinion. It's not only allowing Atreus to take a break from his father, the war and the whole prophecy thing, and just risking his life in general, but it also gives the players time to just relax and experience the joy of a child making a friend for the first time and having some fun.
And is that so wrong?
For a character who feels like the whole world is on his shoulders, who is lying to his father, who doesn't know if the choices he's making are right or wrong (which isn't a bad thing most if not all teens go through that stage), in my opinion Atreus needed to experience this.
He needed to experience what it feels like to have a friend, to talk to someone who is his age, someone who he can have fun with without feeling like he will be attacked at every corner he turns. It was so good for Atreus and his character, especially when Angrboda comes in because she helped with a huge part of his character development.
I also fucking love Angrboda, she is so much more than Atreus' friend or love interest, and it doesn't feel like she is only his love interest because she's not, she's her own person and Santa Monica did such an amazing job at showing that.
The Ironwood section is something I felt like was perfect for the game, and I get why people don't think that and that's fine, but I think people are missing the whole reason why it was put in the game in the first place and people just tend to ignore the good moments because there's way more good moments than there is bad moments.
Some people just need to take the time to understand that and so much more to be honest.

Shoutout to the temporary ships that were created with the intention of getting in the way of the intended ship but that I actually liked way more than the ship the writers were trying to get me to root for.
(a.k.a I kinda get a bit salty on this one)
---
1. Laurel and Tommy - Arrow
As soon as they got introduced I felt the feeling of doom. Because they were so immediately adorable and full of chemistry. I loved them from the word go even though it was so clear they were going toward a Laurel and Oliver resolution (and then to add insult to injury they changed their minds on that, but Tommy was taken from Laurel anyway).
---
2. Clara and Danny - Doctor Who
It's up for debate if Clara's relationship with the Doctor was meant to be romantic-coded or not (I personally prefer it as 'not' but they really were very fuzzy with the lines) but either way Danny was still used as the threat that might separate them. And that was really annoying for me because I liked Clara and Danny so much. And then they killed him (which is a scene that still tears my heart to pieces).
---
3. Cordy and Doyle - Angel: The Series
They were short and sweet and I enjoyed them (and though the Cordy and Angel thing wasn't really a thing at the time, there were some signs that it was on the writers' minds... and I wasn't a fan). And then they killed Doyle (...I might have to rename this post to 'killing off the love interests I actually enjoyed to give way to the ships I didn't').
---
4. Rachel and Joey - F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
This ship went past my notice when I watched the show as a kid (my entire obsession rested on Monica and Chandler) but after rewatching as an adult I actually really liked their potential. It might have come up a bit unexpectedly but there really was something quite genuine about it (and Rachel deserved so much better than Ross). I wish they hadn't ended it as such a joke.
---
5. Worf and Troi - Star Trek: The Next Generation
They were created with the sole intention of getting in the way of Troi and Riker. But I liked them better. I just found them more interesting.
---
6. Tamsin and Bo - Lost Girl
They were more fun to watch than Bo and Lauren, had better chemistry and I just enjoyed them a lot more ('and then you see you' living in my head rent free for years now). But instead they gave Tamsin the short end of the stick and used her as a stepping stone (in so many ways, genuinely, even past shipping they just never gave that Valkyrie a single break... and then killed her in the most insulting way possible, because of course they did).
---
7. Wynonna and Dolls - Wynonna Earp
Talk about chemistry. Season 1 of that show was so good and I really did fool myself into thinking this was where they were heading but no, of course not (I should have learned my lesson about Emily Andras after she killed off Hale on Lost Girl). How is an old dude with a gross mustache more interesting than a literal dragon? The answer as far as I'm concerned... they're not (now guess if they killed him off. Guess!).
---
8. Lucy and Flynn - Timeless
A tragic love story happening in the wrong order and out of time because he meets her when he needs something to hold on to and she gives him a crusade. And she meets him while he's zealously following that crusade and thinks he's just a terrorist? Dude. But no, apparently the happy ending is supposed to be the guy that wanted the cake and to eat it too (sometimes I genuinely boggle at how the writers just will not notice when they've hit gold and instead go on beating that dead horse even more to death (and yup, somehow manage to kill the gold)) .
9. Dutch and Johnny - Killjoys.
(First I have to say that I still recommend this show a 100% and this is just quibble of a shipper at heart) But how is it that when you build the whole series around the heart of this relationship, you still end up using Johnny as a brief stop point (a la basically a Married!AU) before you put Dutch back with his brother? Like, yes, they're each other's best friends and always will be but people that are in love can be each other's ride or die best friends too.
---
10. Mel and Abigael - Charmed (2018)
Alright, Mel went through the intended love interests like candy (and I liked most of them well enough) but Abby was the one that intrigued me the most, so it was a great shame that she was never properly Mel's love interest at all and more enemy/antagonist/ally/friend with mostly one-sided feelings for Mel (enemies to friends to lovers was RIGHT THERE).
#merlance#pinkwald#cordelia x doyle#cordy x doyle#rachel x joey#worf x troi#worf x deanna#valkubus#wyndolls#garcy#dutch x johnny#abimel#terapsina rambles#terapsina's shipping rambles#otp: laurel x tommy#otp: clara x danny#ship: cordy x doyle#ship: rachel x joey#ship: troi x worf#otp: and then you see you#otp: you were never 'just' anything#otp: lucy x flynn#otp: you're my gravity#otp: mel x abby

Being a multishipper is so freeing. Like- Edelgard and Dorothea? Great! Edelgard and Byleth? Monica? Sure! What about Hubert? Edelgard and Hubert? Love them! Ferdibert are of course always a nice choice.
Like as long as you’re not shipping something weird or gross there’s so much fun to find in shipping like rare pairs! My personal fav in FE3H is F!Byleth and Mercedes.
This ofc applies to shipping in general not just Fire Emblem.

Okay. Just finished the finale. Overall, this storyline was really awful and sooo poorly written. None of it made sense.
Tim had this huge murder pact, which prompted the breakup and lead Tim to go to therapy. Huh?! So we get no payoff of the therapy, other than “she was a really good therapist.” Excuse me sir, no she fucking wasn’t. At least he acknowledged the ridiculousness of him going to therapy resulted in learning the therapist was a blackmailer tied to Monica??!!! I am just curious if the writers were making fun of themselves by acknowledging the ridiculousness of this storyline in the dialogue? That was supposed to be Tim’s growth arc? Don’t get me started on the “Freak in the sheets line” way to reduce a female character and their relationship to a punchline about sex. Classy.
All season long, Lucy has taken hit after hit, been treated like absolute and complete shit by ever person around her. Don’t get me started on Nyla, Angela and Nolan. She loses her dream, which is barely mentioned and is dumped by her person. There is absolutely no acknowledgement of that at all either. Tim’s big speech to begin to repair is “You are kind to me. I will try to be kind, if you let me.”WTF??!! Not once, did he acknowledge how he hurt her, just a generalized BS statement. “I ruined everything.” This scene is supposed to be my hope for the future. Looks pretty bleak.
You are kind to grocery store clerks, not the person you supposedly love, who you hope to repair with after you hurt them deeply. But, I guess that is the best this show can do.
I just can’t. I just hate I can’t get the time I have spent invested in this show and relationship back. Alexi obliterated what was built over 5 years in the space of 2 episodes. There was no greater story or character development. It didn’t have any meaning or purpose other than to introduce the Blair/Monica connection. Had nothing to do with the undercover issue at all, which we spent half of last season and the beginning of this season talking about, which could have been a real obstacle for them to work through.
After seeing what Alexi did to Castle, I should have known better.
They are gonna make Lucy a doormat because Tim is kind to her. It’s infuriating because the inherent misogyny in the story is so obvious. How can these be the same writers who wrote this great line, “way to trivialize female anger.” Here we are.

Six controversial F.R.I.E.N.D.S opinions that I formed during a re-watch
Today marks 30 years since the Pilot episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S first aired. Happy Anniversary to one of the best show's of all time!
A few years ago, when I learned that my partner hadn't seen a single episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, I forced him into watching the whole series, every single night, for months.
Obviously, he was critical at first. However, I soon witnessed what the true magic of this sitcom was - the characters. Once the viewer understands and connects with each of the six main protagonists (which may take a season or two), suddenly the comedy and the warmth becomes so much more brilliant.
I could see a brand new fan in the making as we watched the show together, and it became obvious to me just how important the long-term watching was. The show is riddled with running inside jokes based on the character's distinct personalities and their history in past episodes.
This is why you constantly hear of people saying that they watched one or two episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S and "didn't find it that funny", or the that the classic laugh track is annoying, or maybe that the characters were insufferable.
A casual viewer probably doesn't understand what is so funny about Joey sabotaging his own audition, Phoebe revealing something crazy about her past, Ross explaining how many divorces he's had, Monica tensing up at any sign of disorganisation, Rachel getting emotional over trivial things, or Chandler always having to have a sarcastic comment for any situation. But, for a fan who really knows these people, these running personality traits and archetypes are a result of the character's shared experiences and adorable friendship, getting funnier the more you watch the same jokes being developed.
However, it has now been three decades since the very first episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S first aired on 22nd September 1994, and society and popular culture has changed a lot since then. I, myself, had a bunch of realisations after re-watching the show with fresh eyes, which I didn't expect at all. I now feel that the typical fan-favourite aspects of the show in the nineties and noughties are no longer as beloved as they once were.
Of course, there are new viewers of the Z generation who would argue the show is problematic, and, in some ways, they're not wrong. Ross's ex-wife and partner are constantly labelled as lesbians even when there is no need for it to be mentioned, and the earlier seasons imply that their relationship is unusual. Monica is fat-shamed, and Chandler's Dad is vaguely genderfluid and made fun of for it. However, comparing it to media published much later, I would say F.R.I.E.N.D.S holds up as a mostly non-harmful show. (But I will get to the Ross and Rachel issue later!)
I will only ever see F.R.I.E.N.D.S as comforting and non-malicious. Plus, let us not forget the waves that the show did make during the nineties. In season two, F.R.I.E.N.D.S became the first show to air a lesbian wedding on U.S television. It also portrayed single motherhood, blended family dynamics and same sex parents, homelessness, unemployment, vegetarianism, divorce, fertility treatment, surrogacy, adoption, casual sex. Most of these themes are still stigmatised and controversial today so, for 30 years ago, this was progressive.
However, I had my eyes opened when I watched the show again, this time not as a seven year old but as a fully-fledged adult in their twenties, with all the experience of this modern, improving world.
Here are the 6 conclusions I made that may make you re-think the long-standing view of the stories and characters:
Phoebe becomes a horrible friend
Don't get me wrong, in the early seasons Phoebe is very much the stereotypical warm and loving "hippy" friend, and she is seen cleansing people's auras, giving to the poor and supporting her loved ones. Her troubled backstory also meant she was able to shed perspective on the other character's trivial problems, particularly when it came to family.
However, mid-way through the show (around the time she gives birth to surrogate triplets for her brother) her character becomes more unpredictable and unfair. She continues to do good things, of course, but specifically in terms of friendship goals, I think later season Phoebe lacks a lot. She lies constantly, uses her childhood trauma to get what she wants, is flaky, ghosts people and cuts them out, gets angry when she's not getting attention, and is occasionally insulting and violent. She's definitely a strong and confident bad ass who doesn't take any crap, but in terms of being a good friend, Phoebe is at the bottom of the list of six. (Read on to see who's at the top of my list!)
Rachel is the "main character"
People may disagree with this but, when I was growing up and being raised by this show, despite Rachel essentially being the character who initiates the series by moving to New York in the Pilot episode, I saw all the protagonists as equally important. There was no main character. They were all the star, and they still are. As was reflected in the backstage bond between the actors all agreeing to be paid the same money throughout the show's run, every character is loved and an integral part of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
However, there's a couple of things about Rachel's character and story that make her unique. Firstly, the way she is presented in the Pilot episode is that of an outsider coming into the friendship group, just like us as the viewer. So, for that important first season, Rachel becomes the viewer's eyes and ears, which is really special. As we are finding out about these characters, what they like, don't like, what they do for a living, their fears, so is Rachel. She is the closest to the audience in that respect. Rachel also goes through arguably the biggest transformation and character development on the show, going from a rich daddy's girl with no job and no responsibilities, to a mother with a fierce fashion career.
Another huge thing I noticed on a re-watch is that Rachel bonds strongly with each of the other five protagonists in ways I think is individual to her. She develops romantic crushes on all three of the boys (albeit, the Chandler one was only for one short flashback episode), and falls in love with two of them. She is also the only protagonist who has kissed everyone in the group, and she has also been room mates with everyone in the group. Whether you agree with Ross and Rachel or not, you could also see the 10 season show as a long love story or a "how I met your father" chronicle. During the last few episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S Rachel decides to say teary goodbyes to all the other friends individually, further showing up as the bridge between viewer and show, and coming full circle from Season 1.
Joey was the best friend, and was actually the most progressive
My listing of worst to best friend on the show would be Phoebe, Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey. Although, the real discovery is just how different Joey feels re-watching the show in the 2020's, compared to the nineties.
When the show first aired, it would be right to assume that Joey was presented as a "ladies man", regularly dating different women, sleeping with them and not calling them back. However, in the current age of dating apps and more normalised casual sex, this behaviour no longer feels awful. Yeah, so Joey might be care-free and forgetful, however when it comes to his long-term friends and people he loves, he is one of the most attentive, caring and forgiving characters. Joey is confident to be romantic, spoil and compliment a woman when he dates, and, unlike some of the other characters, he never cheats when he does get into a committed relationship.
Another huge realisation is just how progressive Joey was, even when he was made fun of for it by the other friends in the group. Being an actor, Joey was confident to wear or do unusual or "ladylike" things, including wearing male lipstick, ladies' underwear, and a male purse, and he doesn't flinch at drinking breast milk either in an early episode. The real loving side of Joey is emphasised during his crush and relationship with Rachel, where he behaves with so much sensitivity, patience and respect, even though it's his first proper love and heartbreak (more on that storyline later!).
Monica and Chandler were underrated and should have been the main romance
I actually think this opinion isn't controversial, and when I say "underrated" what I mean is that the the writers and show runners were blind-sided and unprepared for the huge positive reception this romance had from the fans of the show.
The famous episode where Monica and Chandler first sleep together in London was originally meant to be the start of a small, short fling romance, however it really was by the power of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S audience, who cheered so loudly in the studio during filming of that episode, that the writers were forced to develop the couple into the real deal - marriage, kids and happily every after.
Obviously every romance on the show had ups and downs however Monica and Chandler felt like such a stable, comfort couple, who found love amongst their own insecurities and flaws, and they become better people together. In the nineties and noughties, people will remember that Ross and Rachel were the more famous couple, however their constant break ups, low blows at each other and mind games, makes the re-watches hard to sit through. Monica and Chandler, on the other hand, radiate love and acceptance and a true healthy relationship. A relationship I look for.
Ross was very controlling
Whilst his storylines make for great comedy, it's obvious to most people during re-watches that Ross is borderline emotionally abusive. The Ross and Rachel love story which was once the centre piece of the show has been abandoned by most modern viewers, because of how Ross continues to sabotage their relationship and then place blame on Rachel, being overly jealous of her career, and of other male prospects. He is particularly unnecessarily angry when Joey reveals his crush on Rachel, as if he's got some kind of ownership on her despite not dating her for 8 years out of the 10 season show. And yet, he can move on and get married too quickly to someone else whenever he wants.
There was a time when Ross was the hopeless romantic of the show, seemingly having constant bad luck with the ladies and being awful at flirting. However, in hindsight, he is problematic. He moves on too fast and ruins his own wedding by saying the wrong name at the alter, gets involved with one of his student's, and deceives Rachel into thinking they are divorced when they are still married. Similar to Phoebe, Ross lies and has regular tantrums, to the point where other characters have to tip-toe around him to save his feelings.
Maybe once upon a time, Ross's intense undying love for Rachel would have been seen as sweet and adorable, but when I re-watched Rachel getting her dream job for the first time and Ross suddenly getting jealous and feeling inferior, wanting Rachel literally all to himself and to not have her own life, leading to the breakdown of their relationship (where it should have stayed, if I'm honest), it was clear Ross is a horrible boyfriend.
Joey and Rachel should have ended up together
I'm going to say it - Joey was too good for Rachel.
Following all my other realisations, I think this relationship should have been endgame, and something that I think if the show was made today, would have come true. Friends to lovers and unpredictable relationships are so popular on TV today, however in the noughties we were hit with the typical "red herring", when Joey and Rachel kiss in the Season 9 finale setting up the final season of the show in a new direction.
In a big whiplash moment, however, the romance was halted in just one, arguably silly episode, where Joey and Rachel find that they can not bring themselves to have sex because they are too close as friends. This was potentially all the fault of the main cast who were strongly against the Joey and Rachel romance, and felt it was wrong. Obviously, the actors do have some ownership over the authenticity and integrity of their characters, (and, for the most part, the actors did protest unfaithful storylines on many occasions), however I don't think anyone expected that future viewers would have rooted so heavily for Joey and Rachel.
Compared to Ross's controlling and toxic attitude, Joey has a heart of gold, and always gives Rachel the space and time she needs. He never throws tantrums, despite being completely heart-broken for most of Season 8, and always does the right thing by his feelings whilst respecting Rachel. Just the idea of these two being in a relationship is all we have, as the love story didn't have time to leave the ground. However, you have to admit, if a modern viewer could pick between Ross and Joey, I think it would be an obvious choice.
What are your (controversial or otherwise) F.R.I.E.N.D.S re-watch opinions??

Last year I wrote a story about a streamer who shrinks based on chat donations. I meant it as a one shot, but guys…. GUYSSSSS.
I think about this story ‘s universe a lot. I have lore notes just collecting dust and I need to share it or I might go absolutely mad XD Made these visuals charts to get the basics across but if you’re interested in my lore and semantic ramblings, feel free to read below the cut.
Consider this my unofficial pitch bible for Down Played.
General premise: Monica Diaz is Twitch streamer with steadily growing fan base. Her tag is MiniMushroom and her aesthetic is cottage core. She loves all things magical and tiny, especially toadstool mushrooms, that’s the image most associated with her “brand.” She’s approached by a mysterious benefactor who has developed technology specifically for Monica to test and utilize for her streams. It’s called Byte-Syzed Tech and it connects to a user’s twitch stream and based on the user’s preferences, gives the audience the ability to change the user’s height. The one shot I wrote takes place during Monica’s first live use of Byte-Syzed tech on stream. If I were to develop this into a full story I’d probably go back a bit and start around when Monica is first approached about using Byte-Syzed tech then continue to follow Monica adjusting to using Byte-Syzed more often. How she deals with the size change on camera, off camera, how her social and personal life are affected, all that good stuff. I think it would like a slice of life feel good kinda story.
Characters:
- Monica - Main character and primary user of Byte-Syzed tech. Surprisingly enough, she’s actually a law school grad who probably would have put her degree to use if she didn’t accidentally gain a massive following on twitch. Funny how life works out. She stands at 6’4 and always was fascinated with the idea of being small (Basically, she’s a g/t nerd who doesn’t know what g/t is) so being gifted Byte-Syzed and being able to use it on stream is kinda a dream come true.
- Kim - Monica’s girlfriend, roommate, and stream moderator. Kim and Monica were high school sweethearts but drifted apart in college due to personal matters in Kim’s life including having to drop out of college. Kim and Monica rekindled their relationship a few years later and Kim cites Monica and her encouragement as a big reason why she’s been able to get her life back together. She’s currently back in college working on getting her degree in Mathematics.
- The Twitch Team- Moni hosts solo streams but also very often collabs with three of her online friends. Ariel (@Lifeisthebubbles), a Vtuber who is the only one Moni has met in person. Corey (@McDonuts) an NB asmrist on youtube who started streaming games for fun. And Phin (@UrguyPhin) Corey's bf and the competitive gamer of the four. All three of them were streaming with Monica when she first used Byte-Syzed and have since gotten used to pausing their games so an ever shrinking Monica can adjust her set up.
- The Benefactors- Keeping their (Plural, there are two of them) exact identity to myself for the time being, but basically they’re mad scientists with the best intentions. Their antics have garnered attention across the internet as they have created and gifted inventions to up and coming online creators that seem to defy all laws of physics. Anti Gravity chambers, a literal money tree, a mask the morphs the wearer’s face, and now the Byte-Syzed size changing tech. Despite their inventions going viral, their identities have remained hidden. So what is their deal? They’re just big fans of these creators and for lack of drawing skills have gifted them weird inventions instead. Nerds… Due to the nature of Byte-Syzed and the possible effects it can have on the human body, Monica and Kim remain in close contact with them.
How Byte-Syzed Works in Universe: This I wrote tons of notes about when I first thought of the idea. Byte-Syzed can be divided into three key components; The program, the arm band monitor, and the sync suit.
The Program is installed on the user’s computer and connects directly to the arm band monitor and sync suit. The program has user friendly set up that allows the user to input the direction of height change (Shrink or Grow), The minimum or maximum height change, How height change occurs (By views, chat commands, donations, etc.), and rate of height change (How much height is gained or lost with each instance of viewer interaction.) EX: If height is based on donations, the user can set it up so they lose 1 inch for every 10 dollars donated. They can set the minimum height to 6 inches, so once they’ve received enough donations that they have shrunk down to 6 inches, Byte-Syzed will hold at that height. More donations may come in after, but the height will remain at 6 inches for the duration of the stream.)
The Arm Band Monitor, is the device the physically changes the user’s height after connecting to the Byte-Syzed Program. It also monitors and display’s the user’s current height and vitals. All data collected from the arm band will then be saved and can be referenced later if the band is connected to the computer. The arm band must be kept on at all times during active use and active reset of Byte-Syzed. Active use is the time in which Byte-Syzed is being used in a stream and the user’s height is actively changing. Active reset refers to time after the stream has ended and the user is either set at their new current height or in the process of returning to their normal height. After a stream has ended the user will remain at their changed height until they press the reset button on the monitor. Once the reset button is active, the user will return to their normal height at 1.5 times the amount of time it took to change to their current changed height. EX: A user has finished a stream that was 4 hours. They hit the reset button which will return them to normal over the course of 6 hours. (4x1.5=6) This only applies for time Byte-Syzed was in use, not how long a size change occurred. EX: If the user’s stream was 4 hours, but they reached their minimum height in 3 hours, the reset function will account for the 4 hours the stream lasted. This is a safety procedure to reduce stress on the user’s body. Note: If the reset button is not pressed, the user will remain at their changed height for a period of 12 hours. After 12 hours, the reset function will kick in automatically.
The Synchronized Suit or Sync Suit is directly connected to the Byte-Syzed program and will grow and shrink with the user at the same rate as the user. Normal clothing can be worn above it but they will not change size with the user, only the sync suit. The sync suit Monica received came with the suit, shoes, and a headset with a built in microphone to keep audio input even over the course of her size changing. More sync suits are in the process of being designed and produced, with the goal of making sync suits that resemble everyday clothing like t shirts or skirts.
Fun Story Ideas:
- Origin story. How Monica met the benefactors and was gifted Byte-Syzed, her and Kim’s gripes about using it, actually going through with it and the pros and cons she noticed, the end of her first size changing stream and dealing with being tiny in her own room and her girlfriend’s hands. Etc etc
- Monica finished a late night stream using byte Syzed and forgets to press reset when she goes to sleep so instead of growing back over the course of the night she wakes up at her tiny size. After realizing her mistake she begins the growth process but now has to do it while attempting to do her regular day time activities.
- Monica is approached by a doll company to collaborate on a new doll based on her, only issue, their studio is several hours away and they want her to model at both her full height and at the height of the dolls. After some consideration Monica and Kim decide to take a road trip to the studio and use Byte Syzed at the studio under Kim’s careful supervision. What could go wrong?
- Months have passed and Kim and Monica have grown well adjusted to the major size difference between them after Monica finishes a byte syze stream, however curiosity has gotten the best of her and Kim wonders what it would be like to be the tiny one for a change.
If you have read this far, you have my eternal gratitude. Thanks for reading this far, I really hope you liked it XD Maybe if time and motivation allows I can flesh the story out.
#didn’t get into it in the main text but#With Monica I really wanted to have a plus size character#My friend downsizedclab made a post about it a loooooong time ago and it really stuck with me#we totally deserve to have more body diversity in g/t stories#any ways#I love Moni so much#she’s been living in my head rent free for a while#and the semantics of how this tech works#I’ve had that written out before I wrote the initial one shot#in fact the original plan for the one shot included seeing Monica and Kim actually input the info into the program#but it was just basically 3 pages of characters doing math and filling out a form#I’m pretty sure y’all don’t want to read that#so I just jumped to fun size changing stuff#but I did write Monica’s shrinking to keep in line with the math I laid out for her#it’s all consistent#g/t#giant/tiny#gt#giant tiny#g/t fluff#g/t art#mighty draws#Down Played#Monica#Kim#g/t artist#gt artist#g/t writing#gt writing#mighty writes

ReCount: Top 15 Portrayals of The Evil Queen
Tomorrow, Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” will be coming out…aaand I don’t think I’ve looked forward to a movie LESS in my entire life. -_- Seriously, I was iffy about the idea, to say the least, right from the word go, but the more I hear and see of the film - completely disregarding behind the scenes foolery, JUST focusing on the movie itself - the more I feel my interest and confidence dwindle. And there wasn’t much of that to begin with. The most disappointing aspect to me is Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Again, putting aside all the behind the scenes stuff, and how one may or may not feel about Gadot as a PERSON (I know opinions there can be VERY strong), as an ACTRESS I was actually looking forward to that piece of casting. But the more I see and hear of her Queen, the less sure I am that she’s going to be worthwhile. Of course, the film hasn’t come out yet, and it’s unfair to judge completely, and it’s also worth stating that direction and writing are just as likely to blame as anything else…but regardless, any support I had for her there has faded away for the most part.
Thankfully, there’s more than an abundance of takes on the character to choose from beyond Gadot’s portrayal. “Snow White” is one of the most popular fairy-tales out there, and the Evil Queen is one of the most well-known and frequently adapted villains in the history of literature as a result. A while back I did a list of my Top 15 Favorite Portrayals of the Queen that have come around over the years. I thought it would be fun, with the newest film’s upcoming release, to look back on these other portrayals again, since it’s been a couple years and not everyone likely saw the older rankings. Maybe when the film comes out, Gadot will manage to make her mark among these malevolent monarchs…but I’m not holding my breath. In any case, with that in mind…here are My Top 15 Favorite Portrayals of the Evil Queen! Let’s see how many you all know. ;)
HONORABLE MENTIONS (Left to Right, Top to Bottom)
Judy Parfitt, from The Charmings.
This was a very weird attempt to turn the Snow White story into a 80s sitcom. Parfitt plays "Queen Lillian," who acts as the typical unpleasant mother-in-law figure that Snow White and her prince have to deal with. She also falls in love with Gomez Addams at one point. Bizarre.
Julia Roberts, from Mirror Mirror.
While I generally like this more comedic retelling of the Snow White story, I feel there's something somewhat lacking in Roberts' portrayal of Queen Clementianna, as the character is called here. I think it's an issue with the writing. Generally, though, I think there's still stuff to admire both about this character and this film.
Monica Belucci, from The Brothers Grimm.
This dark fantasy/horror film is kinda like a medieval Ghostbusters…sort of. XD Throughout it, the titular characters encounter creatures that will become figures in their famous fairy-tales in the future. Belucci plays the main villain of the story, “the Mirror Queen,” who is sort of a conflation of the Evil Queen and Rapunzel…leaning more heavily towards the former than the latter, obviously.
Patricia Medina, from Snow White and the Three Stooges.
This film has a major issue with tone, as the slapstick goofiness of the Three Stooges is sort of hamfistedly slammed against what is a more or less "serious" handling of the fairy-tale. It feels like the movie can't make up its mind what it wants to be. With that said, I like Medina's Queen, and elements of her portrayal have actually influenced me in some works of my own.
Eleanor Audley, from The Railroad Hour (1953).
Before she played Maleficent, but after she played Lady Tremaine, Audley voiced the Evil Queen in a radio version of Disney's Snow White. She does a fine job, as you'd expect. Interestingly, this was the second time this radio program attempted to adapt the Disney film; an earlier production featured Jeanette Nolan in the role. She's alright, but Audley is lightyears more interesting.
Tamsin Grieg, from Revolting Rhymes.
This two-part animated miniseries adaptation of the Roald Dahl book by the same name features a comical depiction of the Queen, who - before being crowned - goes by the name "Miss Maclahose." Unfortunately, this version disappears from the story pretty quickly and never actually receives any real comeuppance for her villainy.
CHOICES 15 - 11
15. Prince Raj, from Snow White With the Red Hair.
While this genderbent take on the Queen ranks at the bottom, do not misconstrue this to mean I dislike him, as he's quite possibly my favorite character in this anime. Raj is a vain and spoiled prince who starts off as a (somewhat comical) villain before eventually finding redemption and becoming a friend to Shirayuki, the Snow White character. In the Japanese original, he's voiced by Jun Fukuyama; in the English dub, he's played by Todd Haberkorn.
14. Queen Hedrian, from Denshi Sentai Denjiman AND Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan.
This take on the Evil Queen was the main villain of the former series in the Super Sentai franchise, and later became the secondary antagonist of the latter. She desires to destroy all things of beauty in the universe, so she can be the only beautiful thing left. The actress who played her, Machiko Soga, would later play the witch Bandora in “Zyuranger,” a.k.a. Rita Repulsa in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
13. Charlize Theron, from Snow White and the Huntsman.
This version is known by the name “Queen Ravenna.” While I’m not a huge fan of this movie (and haven’t even bothered to watch its sequel), I genuinely think Theron was a well-portrayed and excellently-cast take on the Evil Queen. She’s both one of the most empathetic and yet thoroughly despicable takes on the character on the whole countdown, which is saying a lot.
12. Majorina, from Smile! Pretty Cure (a.k.a. Brooha, from Glitter Force).
This fairy-tale themed “Magical Girl” series features the Queen as one of the main villains of the show. In the original Japanese version, she is called Majorina (literally meaning “witch queen”), while in the English dub - entitled Glitter Force - she’s called “Brooha” (a pun on the Spanish word for “witch”). In the former she is played by Tominaga Miina; in the latter, the vocal chops are handled by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.
11. Vanessa Redgrave, from Faerie Tale Theatre.
One of the most over-the-top takes on the Queen out there, in the best possible way. Redgrave is delightfully hammy, but still has her moments of menace, and faces one of my favorite defeats of any version of the character out there. Also, her Magic Mirror is played by Vincent Price: instant kudos there.
CHOICES 10 - 6
10. Diana Rigg, from Snow White (1987).
This rather cheesy, low-budget children’s musical movie is ultimately saved almost single-handedly by Diana Rigg’s turn as the villain. To be honest, this is one of the most perfect casting choices for the role the world has ever seen. Like Redgrave, she’s very hammy and often strays towards the comical, but she has her threatening moments and a pretty awesome (if somewhat confusing) final bow from the picture.
9. Hitomi Yoshida, from Grimms Notes: The Animation.
I finally figured out who voices this version of the Queen! This take on the character appears in the anime adaptation of the now-defunct game “Grimms Notes.” This is quite possibly the single most tragic and sympathetic version of the character on the entire list, which is saying a lot. The only reason she isn’t higher is because I wish we had even more of her; she only shows up in one episode.
8. Dianne Wiest, from The 10th Kingdom.
Here named “Christine White,” this version of the character is actually the new Evil Queen, following in the footsteps of the original from the classic fairy-tale. She’s still out to defeat a young lady, still uses the old poison apple gimmick, and generally clearly bears all the hallmarks of the classic Queen we all know, however, so I still think she counts. Another somewhat sympathetic take on the character who rides a fine line between cruel tyrant and tragic villainess.
7. The Queen of Fables, from DC.
If you’ve only seen the version from the “Harley Quinn” animated series, to be blunt, you haven’t seen the REAL Queen of Fables. Read some of her comics, there’s some great stories there. In the DC Universe, this version of the Queen believes that Wonder Woman is, in fact, the reincarnation of her old nemesis, Snow White. Weird, but certainly fun.
6. Anne Francine & Charles Hall, from Snow White Live!
Long before Disney brought “Beauty and the Beast” to Broadway, their first big stage version of one of their animated films was this show at Radio City Music Hall. It’s gone by several titles, but I know it best as “Snow White Live!” Anne Francine played the Queen in her beautiful, radiant form, while actor Charles Hall played the Witch following her transformation. Both are awesome.
THE TOP FIVE
5. Miranda Richardson, from Snow White: Fairest of Them All.
While this TV film adaptation has some problems, Richardson’s Queen Elspeth is widely considered one of her best performances, and easily a shoe-in for my top five. This take starts off as a sympathetic character, but becomes increasingly more despicable and deranged as the story goes on, as her yearning for beauty and love drive her to the point of madness.
4. Vil Schoenheit, from Twisted Wonderland.
If you know me well, you should have known this one would be on the countdown. In this Disney-Villains-themed gacha game, taking place at a School of Dark Magic founded by seven famous baddies, Vil is the analogous character to the Evil Queen. He is a worldwide celebrity who, despite his fame and fortune, still struggles with issues of self-confidence, envy, and pride. In the game, the character is voiced by Hiroki Aiba.
3. Sigourney Weaver, from Snow White: A Tale of Terror.
This horror film version of the story boasts one of the most underrated and delightfully complex versions of the Queen out there. Weaver isn’t by any means obvious casting in the role, but she does a phenomenal job. Like Richardson, this take on the character - known as Lady Claudia - starts off as a sympathetic character, but becomes increasingly more villainous and demented as the story goes on.
2. Lana Parilla, from Once Upon a Time.
Here named “Regina Mills,” Parilla’s Queen was something of a breakout character for this series. I actually love her more today than I did when the show first came out. Regina starts off as a straightforward villain, but as the series goes, she evolves and changes, going from a sympathetic antagonist to an anti-hero and ultimately to being one of the good ones. Her arc and her performance throughout are spectacular.
1. The Disney Version.
Was there ever any doubt? Through various incarnations, the original Queen - first voiced by Lucille LaVerne - is by far one of Disney’s most iconic villains, and the chances are good this is the first take on the character most people think of when they think of the story. She’s not as complex or sympathetic as other versions, but she doesn’t need to be: she’s a great baddy in a truly classic feature film, and that’s all she really needs to be to take the top. ‘Nuff said.

Helpless
Description: She worked as a lawyer in New York until she received a phone call from the man she owes her career to. She knew she would be back and what she was in for but what she didn’t know is that her life would change even more than she imagined.

Part 2
Chapter 1
“You hide your emotions for a living but at this moment you are not doing a great job” I directed an eyeroll to him. We were currently sitting at the dinner table, waiting for his children to join us.
“Not really helping John '' I let out a sigh taking in his words. I know he was right. This family has been in my life since I was 17. I had met Beth, who at first wasn’t the kindest but somehow we both got along great. In my job you had to be assertive, judgemental, firm, confident and when things got rough, you had to be rude and tough. Not an easy thing to do on a normal basis and I thought to myself I was crazy for not only entering law but to becoming a General Practice Attorney. Somehow when I enter the courtroom or when I am making a deal my eyes dial in to my target and I blackout. I do what is needed to do and my streak of losing none of my cases shows that. But when I am outside the law and I am just me, I lose myself. With Beth, she was that for me. She was the assertive side in me and I was the calming side to her. We got each other and I was thankful for that.
“You didn’t tell me she was joining '' Jamie, sweet Jamie. I get up and give him a hug which he gladly takes. Right out of law school I was taken under his wing. John decided not to tell him how he helped me through law school and how he became a mentor to me since the night we met. Jamie took such pride in seeing me become what I wish he knew I could be. Soon I had to move on since I wasn't a specialist in only one thing. I now only see him if he or John needs help and needs me to work with him on something. We distance ourselves over the past years but nothing feels any different now. “Finally” He sighs, moving around the table to take a seat across from me, of course one seat down from John who was at the end of the table.
“Decided we couldn’t keep her a secret anymore and now would be a great time to have her here” After Lee’s death I was asked to come back to the ranch. I moved to New York as I was working on expanding my knowledge in more than just Law, but when I received John's call I dropped everything. Lee’s death was unfortunate and John mentioned in that phone call that things were just going to get tougher from then, and hell did it. I have been working in the background with Lee’s death and filing it under the table with the help of Jamie. Also helping him with Kayce and Monica. When the drug explosion accident happened and Monica’s accident at school. With the kidnapping of the girl Kayce found and the trips he took to jail. Not to mention Dan and Beth, and I have a feeling that won’t be it.
“He didn’t want to continue hearing my rants on driving from home all the way to town. Loved the peaceful rides but you know I am not a morning person” I was staying just outside of Darby. Of course I could stay in town but it wasn’t a risk John nor I wanted to take. He has enemies and everybody knows each other, we didn’t want to give them anything that could come back and damage the farm.
“That you are not” I looked up hearing a familiar voice. “You remember your finals week?” I shake my head in embarrassment. I had just turned 20 but in Beth’s head I was 21. So she made a trip from Salt Lake City to Connecticut. Of course I told her right but she didn’t care. She told me Yale could wait for a couple hours so I could have fun. I was unaware that her couple hours meant a whole night a day. John sent me to study in Yale a couple months after we met. I promised him I wouldn’t disappoint and for me, I never make promises so It was like writing it in stone. I took multiple classes and spent nights, days, summer, spring break, holidays studying and advancing as much as possible in my degree. Work paid off when in only four years I graduated when it usually took 7. Anyways I was in my finals and she took me out that morning.
“In my defense it was 3 in the morning when you showed up” yeah 3 in the morning, I was walking into my apartment hoping to take a 3 hour nap so I could continue at 6 the next day.
“That when New york wakes up” So she shook me off the bed and drove us down an hour and 30 minutes to Manhattan.
“I thankfully took a that ride a power nap”
“If that is what you want to call it.” She laughs while pouring herself a drink. “ I could swear her body felt more energized than ever because she looked like a zombie who hadn’t slept in years'' I hadn’t slept well in 5 weeks. I knew finals were coming and with everything going on I needed every hour I could get to prepare for it. “We got to the club and she was going on a mission. I am not going to tell you what she did to get in because it would ruin your image of her '' She meant I seduced and promised the security an amazing morning if he let me in knowing I wasn’t 21 yet. That might not seem bad but when your promises are very verglaur and detailed and also loud, well now that I think about it, it was more embarrassing but still. “But don’t worry I didn’t let her slip that night. Well maybe just a little.” I cover my eyes and my ears. Dancing on every surface I could find and wired with more alcohol than they had in the club I was having the best time of my life that night. But when we got out and I saw the sun I began cursing at it like it killed and took away everything I loved. I bet there is a video of me out there becoming New York’s crazy woman who hates the sun. After that I went back into the club and refused to come out until the sun was gone. And to be fair that was not what I meant by not being a morning person. I love sunrises and sunsets, I just hate waking up.
“Sorry I am late. Leaving Tate wasn’t easy today” I have only seen Kayce from afar. When I arrived at the farm, Kayce had already had the altercation with John. I soon left and didn’t hear about him until I came back. I have been only helping Jamie with his cases but never had the opportunity to speak to him once. I knew he had moved back and became the Ranch Foreman but I avoided the farm as much as possible knowing that was what John and I agreed on. Kayce walked in with his head down seating next to John and Jamie. He only focused on me when John spoke up.
“Don’t worry son. We were just catching up” he stood up at the end of the table looking over at us. “This is Y/N. She will be living here starting today” That is not what we spoke about. I gave him a worried look but he only shook his head. That meant I had to trust him. “Beth and Jamie have known of her for the past years but because of the circumstances of you not being present in the ranch” A little sadness in both their eyes could be seen. “You hadn’t gotten a chance to meet her” I sent him a nod with a gentle smile and his response was a cold stare that he quickly moved towards his father.
“What do you mean she will be living in the main house?” Not that I mattered more than him but somehow his words caused annoyance in me. You don’t even know me and speak like I was not important. John takes the chance to sit down as Gator comes out with the food.
“I want to take this dinner as a chance to not only tell you about her” he look over to Kayce and then followed his gaze to Jamie and Beth as he continued speaking “and to tell you two along with Kayce how she came to the ranch and why I asked her to come back and stay in the ranch” That last part he looked over at me and I knew he was asking me to listen and consider his question on staying and living in the ranch for awhile. We began eating but John didn’t touch his food as he began speaking. “One night almost 7 years ago she came to the farm. I know under what circumstance she came to run into our lands but that is up to her if she wants to share it with you” He looks over at me and I give him a nod thanking him for that. He looks back to his kids and continues. “That night 3 of our cowboys were out and found her. Thankfully Rip found her before anything bad happened to her.” I look down focusing on my food not really wanting to relive that moment. I guess it showed on my face since I felt Beth take my hand that was settled in my lap. “Rip brought her to me and that night I decided to bring her in. She made a good impression on Rip and I so I decided to help her from that day on.” I smile hearing that from John. Rip was a big softy but had a hard time showing that to people. Mainly because this kind of life didn’t bring out the best in him. He liked it and as much as I would like him to see the better side of things, I know he is better off that way he is.
“So what does that mean? Is she?-” Beth chuckles at Kayces words.
“She is younger than you Kayce! Just 22” Almost 23 I thought. Jamie's words cause a groan from his brother who looks over to John for answers.
“It means I saw something and helped her become what she wanted in life. She spoke to me about going into law school and to show her gratitude she promised to do everything in her power to make me proud and devote herself to this family and she hasn’t failed since”
“She has helped me keep this family running and keeps you from jail.” Jamie says, taking a bit of his potato.
“She had been working behind the scenes since I asked her to come back months ago.” John adds finally starting to eat his dinner.
“So you paid for her school and are now moving her into the house in exchange for her service?” It was a question but to him it was a statement that he made his own answer from. “It will become a great headline” I see the annoyance now in John's face.
“I can assure you that being here will cause no harm in the farm's image. I will assure myself of that personally.” Beth chuckles again but Kayce takes it the wrong way. Getting up and excusing himself from the table.
“You don’t have too, it's not something he has a say about” John grabbed my arm before I could walk past him.
“If I am going to devote myself to this family like I promised I need him to trust me.” John nods letting go of me as I try to catch up to Kayce. I see a dark shadow walking down the path towards the foreman’s cabin. “Kayce!” I don’t see him turn around but he does turn right and leans over the fence. Goddamn dramatic Duttons. I shake my head with a mission, yet I don’t know what I am going to say when I reach him.
“I’ll ask the questions and I’ll tell you if you deserve to be here” I only gently smile and give him a nod. It took everything in me not to roll my eyes at him. He spoke those words and it brought annoyance to his character. “What was the real reason behind him paying and allowing you to be here?” I shrugged in all honesty John and I never spoke about why he decided to help me out. I want to say it was for the kindness in his heart. We all know he takes prisoners and gives them work, it doesn’t sound like much but I can assure you it's a lot. Then there is Rip, a small boy who needed something and John gave him a start, a chance.
“I have no idea” I leaned against the fence, directing my gaze to the land before us. It was past 6 and the sun was way down. The crickets are already playing their tunes and the wind, singing along. “I am not one to usually put my take in things but I think it was because of you” I didn’t turn but I felt his gaze turn sharply to me. To be honest I was feeling a little nervous. Beth, Jamie and Lee had asked me the same question but I never told them what I actually thought the reason behind it was, one because I wasn’t sure and two because I was no one to put such an idea out there. “I came in around the time you left” Under his stare it felt like I was starting to run a fever. Chills went down my spine and I felt like I was burning, thankfully he turned back to the view in front of him. “I always was one to read people’s sadness and when I looked into his eyes, that was all I could see. At that moment I didn’t know why he was sad until later on when I met Beth. She told me all about it. The couple of weeks I spent in the ranch John was kind to me. Taking me in and treating me not like a worker but-” I cut myself off. It caused a bit of pain even thinking of such feelings. How for John I may be like his own child but I know that wasn’t true. Sure he cared for me but if it was between his own blood and me well, there was no question about it. I was pulling on my own heart strings and I needed to cut myself off. “I feel like I was just a right time, right place situation that helped him feel better about letting you go”
“How did you end up here?” He was avoiding my statement. The answer to that was something I haven’t told anyone except John. John had the right to know, but that wasn’t the case with Kayce or his siblings. I needed time. “By the looks of it I see you fighting yourself on whether you should tell me or not” I quickly shake my head.
“It's not a difficult choice. I have the right to not talk about it. Just like I told Beth, John had the right to know but it doesn’t mean it was easy. Am still dealing with my past and soon when everything is over, there will be no need to keep it hidden. Until then I ask them to trust me just like I trust the Dutton blindly”
“You ask for trust but we have more to lose with how much trust we put with you” He was right
“It might not be a lot but I could lose everything with putting my trust in you all. The Duttons are a full package and I choose to take that on no matter what. What you know of this family and its past since I have been here I have helped, if anything happens that could come back and bite me too. You know better than me that people here come and go just as fast as bullet trains”
A/N: I have found my new obsession.♥️. I don’t know where am going with this but I hope you guys like it. This app doesn’t have much of him so I hope that changes.
Thank you❤️.

Thoughts on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice *SPOILERS*
The Good:
The reveal that Astrid could see ghosts this whole time and that Jeremy was actually a ghost was genuinely really good - I didn't see it coming but in hindsight it was so obvious. The whole bit about him trying to trick Astrid into giving her life for his was so fun.
Michael Keaton was a treat to watch as usual - all the actors seemed to be having the times of their lives, especially him, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci. I was actually laughing out loud at some of the scenes he was in and I appreciate that they used him sparingly. I also thought the gag of Willem Dafoe's character being a former actor who liked pretending to be a cop and his secretary kept fetching him coffees and feeding him his lines was genuinely funny.
I was on the fence about Astrid because from what I got from the promotional material she seemed pretty bratty and whiny, but I think her frustrations with Lydia and her life in general were generally fairly understandable and I think she and Winona Ryder had great chemistry. Also I want Astrid's wardrobe, that sweater-dress with the bike shorts and boots? An absolute serve.
It's cool that Tim Burton and Michael Keaton both insisted on building sets instead of relying on CGI to do everything, I think that one of the charming things about the first movie was the handmade feel of the sets and they managed to capture a lot of it in this one. I mean, they do use SOME CGI, especially where Beetlejuice is involved, but I think it's good they didn't just rely on greenscreens.
Banger soundtrack, as usual, thanks to Danny Elfman.
Killing off Charles and Delia was surprising but I thought it was handled in a good way. I thought the actor who played Charles had died or something and when I googled why he wasn't in the sequel I think they did the best they could with the character. Catherine O'Hara sort of held together the Lydia/Astrid subplot for me, especially when she says to Lydia, "What happened to the angsty goth girl who gave me so much trouble? I think you need to find her!" The Bad: - This movie really made me appreciate the Maitlands more. The whole thing with the first movie is that Adam and Barbara ground it and give it a sense of normalcy - they have random, sudden, unfair deaths and as the audience we're thrown into the confusing world and rules of the afterlife as much as they are. In this movie I feel like everyone is too busy trying to be different flavours of wacky to feel real, which is fine for people like Beetlejuice or Delores but the human characters didn't feel like that had substance like the Maitlands.
Am I the only one who felt like this film felt kind of like a character assassination of Lydia?? I love Winona Ryder to death (pun unintended), but I feel like all she did in this movie is make that pop-eyed shocked face and say exposition. I'm sorry but am I meant to believe that Lydia Deetz, the only person in the first movie who could communicate with Adam and Barbara, called Otho, Lydia and her dad out on their shit multiple times and had the balls to make a deal with Beetlejuice to save the former, would seriously let some creepy man pressgang her into marriage? Not to mention I can't remember a single line of dialogue from Lydia, she's kind of been demoted to just being a depressed goth mom and that's kind of it. Also I felt like the way she was using her power for a TV show felt OOC when she was the only one who opposed the haunted house idea in the original. (Also Winona Ryder's hair looked terrible in the movie, it made sense for teenaged Lydia to have those gel spikes but on a Lydia who's hit fifty they look ridiculous. Like what, did her fashion sense never evolve past age fifteen?)
There were WAY too many subplots. I genuinely really liked the subplot with Astrid and Jeremy, and I think Beetlejuice and his ex-wife had a lot of potential, but the end of the movie was like Tim Burton forgot to keep track of every subplot he had going on and wrapped them up really unsatisfyingly.
Monica Bellucci's character was WAY underused. Like. I absolutely loved her design and stuff but she was walking around the whole movie attacking random people we don't give a shit about, and then in the climax she just stands there and lets herself get eaten. (That staple-face look would make a fire Halloween costume though.) I feel like the subplot with Lydia's creepy boyfriend/producer should have been cut so she had more time to shine.
The dialogue. Some of it was fine but other times phrases showed up that are so obviously going to become dated in a couple of years, it sounded like adults trying way too hard to be edgy and relatable to Gen Z viewers, like when Astrid goes "the afterlife is so random!" or that one woman describing something as "non-triggering". I don't remember the dialogue in the first movie feeling so buzzword-heavy.
Beetlejuice felt less like a threat this time. In the first movie he's more of a clear-cut antagonist but this time he's very clearly on Lydia's side and even dispatches all the other bad guys, so I think some of his more sinister energy was lost here.
The ending was really dumb ngl. It feels like it's setting up for a third one but Tim Burton was like "lol not gonna happen" so I have no idea why he chose to ending it like that.

20 Questions for (Fanfiction) Writers
Tagged by @1lostsoul0fishbowl! 😍😍😍
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
68 😳
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count
680,442 (granted, nearly 200k of that is one fic 😅)
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
What We Build Here
For the Duration
The Place We Call Home
From the Ground Up
Not Just Any Vulcan
(so basically the four main works of the Built to Last series and Karveth's first POV piece!)
4. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently just Star Trek Enterprise, though at this point I've strayed so far into my own original canon I'm not sure it counts anymore. 😅
I have, historically, written for...a lot of different fandoms, though. All small, niche, and mostly dead lol
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! I used to not be so good about it, so I've made a real effort to always respond, because comments are better than raindrops on roses.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmmmm....I'm kind of a fluff machine, so if I do angst, it only lasts for a minute. But probably What We Build Here, because it ends with Trip and T'Pol being separated (but only because I knew I would be writing a followup)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of them! 😂 But probably any of my Karveth/Monica fics, because those are just soooooo fluffy.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten the occasional bit of anon hate, though that's mostly dried up lately since I started just blocking mean anons. I've never gotten a hateful comment on AO3, thankfully.
9. Do you write smut?
I have and do! Though it is invariably sweet and extremely fluffy. 😄
10. Do you write crossovers?
No, I don't think my brain is wired right for that. I just can't imagine characters outside of their canon context. Guess that's a me problem.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, not that I know of.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
A long, LONG time ago, I worked on a shared AU with a friend. None of it was ever published, which is a shame, because there was some good stuff! But it was fun to play with.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Whichever one I'm writing at the moment. 😂
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hmmm...probably either my Shadowrun: Dragonfall continuation, or my Green Hornet series. I kinda lost all the steam on both of them.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue and banter and generally having characters sit around and talk to each other, I think.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Everything else. 😅 I struggle with plotting and action sequences and any kind of angst or conflict and I'm constantly comparing myself to other people's writing and feeling myself lacking.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?
I've invented a fair number of Andorian words and phrases, but certainly not enough for whole lines of dialogue. But if someone else can do it, more power to them!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Let's see....there's still some deeply mediocre Buffy the Vampire Slayer fic on a LiveJournal that used to be mine.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
Oh, that's unfair! That's like asking me to pick a favorite child! I love all of them for different reasons! I'm probably proudest of Under a White Sky just because I kind of feel like I was firing on all cylinders for that one, though others may disagree.
Tagging....hmmm... @phoenixflames12, @aprofessionalprotagonist, @mytardisisparked, and anybody else who is/has written fic and wants to play along!
