Hot take I guess but I've never liked "unhoused" as a replacement for "homeless". It's too clinical and removes the humanity factor, IMO.

The EXPERIENCE is demoralizing and humiliating, not the word.

And you can have temporary housing but still be without a home of your own. Changing the terminology of it doesn't help at all. It's just something people with money came up with to make themselves feel better, acting like they're giving "dignity" to the homeless population. It comes from a good place most of the time, but... please.

As someone who experienced poverty, hunger and homelessness as barely an adult after we fled abuse -- a new word doesn't mean shit, doesn't help anybody, and if anything woulda pissed me off if someone tried to push that verbiage on me at the time.

That being said, to each their own. If you've experienced it as well and prefer "unhoused" -- valid and I respect that. But only the opinions of those who have gone through it are really valid here.

I once told someone I wasn't a fan of "unhoused" as a term and they -- in all of their able-bodied, safe, straight, cis, white, financially privileged and performative outraged way proceeded to tell me how wrong I was -- until I asked them if they'd ever been homeless or experienced poverty or hunger etc and the answer was no, and when I informed them I had... well, they didn't have much to say after that.

I have a great idea for a queer (wlw) romcom by the way and it would be so lovely -- but in the current climate it's a "what's the point" feeling and lemme tell ya that's demoralizing as hell.

Found an organic way to reference Supercorp in a script I'm developing right now with a producer, but we'll see if I get to keep it. It fits perfectly when people are discussing comic book characters as part of a funny convo in this action flick.
