| • it was an assignment from your higher ups ,, heading to a lesser known "shake and bake" colony located on a distant planet where the habitable zone was way out from the sun surprisingly

| • usually habitable zones for planets would be in the middle ,, but this one was farther out ,, though it also made it more dangerous to be on

| • the winters were hot and the summers were cold ,, temperatures would get quite extreme but for the most part humans could somewhat live on there

| • you were sent with a team of two other scientists ,, along with an android ,, to examine and study the planet more

| • it was on one of your more routinely walks and expeditions around the more countryside of the planet that you stumbled upon something that hadnt been picked up before by scanners or drones

| • abandoned and trashed ,, a lab that was quite dark and gruesome to look at stood in the middle of nowhere on the barren planet

| • you werent too sure of what happened there ,, though it was evident it wasnt anything good judging by all the dried up liquid stains ,, the broken glass and scratches all over the wall

| • some of the furniture and walls looked melted ,, like somewhat poured lava on it and left it there

| • alone on this expedition ,, you took your notes and marked the location on a map of the planet ,, making a mental note to come back soon

| • the more you looked around the more frightening and on edge you became ,, finding skeletal remains of creatures you werent too sure what they were

| • vials were stored away in a broken down freezer ,, or you assumed so based on their labels in an unknown language and strange color

| • there were vials with many strange colors ,, making you second guess if it even was blood inside them ,, vials storing blue and green and orange

| • none looked indigenous ,, as the most the planet had to offer were these strange rodents that burrowed in the ground most the time ,, almost like those naked molerats from your own home planet ,, except these ones werent as terrifying to look at

| • though the more on edge you became the more curious you got ,, wondering what happened here exactly

| • documents were spilt on the ground ,, scattered about and dirtied up ,, some ripped apart and some with strange prints on them

| • without much of a second thought you took them ,, hoping that maybe you could decode the foreign language and figure out what was happening in this place before it became abandoned

| • you gathered what you could of the place ,, taking a few of the vials and gathering photo evidence of the area

| • while doing so ,, you werent aware of the fact you were being watched ,, stalked and observed by an unknown creature in the vicinity

| • when you got back to the base and showed your findings your crewmates were interested ,, the android apart of your team quickly recognizing the language in the documents

| • it belonged to these creatures called 'yacht-ja' ,, or something of those sorts ,, but he wasnt able to provide much else about the documents other than that

| • you planned to go back to the lab the next week ,, wanting to gather as much information on the area as you could before you left the planet and headed back to the mothership

| • after all ,, you were here for only research and study ,, all your findings on the planet would be taken back aboard the mothership for examination and peer review from other scientists aboard

| • the goal was to gather as many samples as possible ,, document as much as you could ,, and return to your station to head to another planet and repeat the process

| • packing a large lunch in case you stayed longer than expected ,, or did too much running around and had little food ,, you headed off back towards the lab with storage for as much information and to store as many samples as possible

| • your camera was ready ,, taking as many pictures as you could whilst also grabbing more vials from the lab itself ,, storing them away in your vehicular device to take back

| • you didnt pay too much attention to the time ,, more focused and fascinated with the lab around you ,, documenting all the rooms and trying to map out exactly how big it was

| • though something about the place did feel uneasy ,, almost like you werent meant to be here at all in the first place

| • not focusing too much on the feeling you continued ,, going through all the documents and photographing the bright green stains on the wall from who knows what

| • there were a few times you thought you saw something in the corner of your eye ,, almost like a figure yet when you looked there was nothing there ,, like a ghost was playing tricks on you

| • the longer you stayed ,, the more uneasy and skeptical you became of the place ,, not feeling the once comforting and interest as last week

| • when you had finished you gathered your equipment to head back to the base ,, noticing how cold and dark it had gotten and hoping you'd be back in time before the base was put on a lockdown for the night ,, usually for safety precautions as not much was known about the nightlife on the planet

| • unbeknownst to you the scene you would come back to ,, a foreign ship not of any human making was perched ontop of some of the houses whilst the rest of the place was up in flames

| • those yautja creatures you'd been told about earlier had visited ,, wreaking havoc wherever they went as they quickly went through all the humans living there ,, killing them quickly

| • with the base nowhere in sight you didnt bother sticking around ,, heading away from the place and into the countryside once again

| • though it wouldnt help ,, being followed by one of the creatures as they latched onto your vehicle and slashed at the metal and tires ,, quickly putting an end to your escape a few miles away

| • dark skin clashed well with his bright purple stripes ,, large scar over his eye and covering his body in general ,, with a bright colored chest

| • he didnt stare for too long before trying to get at you ,, chittering something in his language as he slashed away at your windows

| • adrenaline filled you ,, now positioned in a fight or flight situation and your gut told you to flee at that moment ,, crawling over the passenger seat and exiting out the door as you made a run for it into a nearby forest

| • it wasnt too difficult for the yautja to keep up ,, right on your tail as he ran after you

| • though his chase would be cut short ,, a large creature coming from out of the bushes and tackling him

| • too worried you'll be next ,, you didnt bother to stop and look back ,, continuing to run even though your legs burned and your lungs were on fire from how much cold air you were breathing

| • somehow you ended up at that same lab ,, almost like it was tied to you now that youve discovered it

| • it felt like a scene from coraline ,, where she walks away from the house and towards where the old well would be except it all turns white

| • though there wasnt no white barren land here ,, just the same abandoned lab

| • you weren't complaining though ,, as you'd rather be somewhere sheltered than out in the open ,, making your way through the maze of rooms and hallways before settling in a far away one

| • you collapsed to the floor ,, panting heavily as you shivered ,, sweat gathered at your forehead from the running and sudden near death experience

| • your eyes felt heavy ,, drowsy and exhausted yet you stayed awake ,, keeping guard and not trusting yourself to sleep in this place ,, not when there was too much happening

| • without your knowing ,, you had fallen asleep and left defenseless in the room ,, the creature that had taken out the yautja had followed you there

| • it gazed at your sleeping form ,, noticing your unconscious shivering and making a decision in its mind

| • curling its tail around your body ,, warmth slowly started to surround your body ,, somewhat ceasing your shivering

| • it could only wait for you awaken ,, resting its head on the cold ,, harsh ground as it kept you company through the night

The bg was left blank until I started painting and the elements added to the bg were designed around the character. I didn't go into this with a little synopsis of what I wanted to convey. Only an abstract idea that Raren was going to be talking to someone, figure it out later. I decided he'd be presenting a new spell in front of a political chamber because he wears a crown and a blue crystal. So he has to be of some form of nobility and magical prowess. He also has blue eyes meaning he is an ice dragon and thus its a blue spell wow. The monarchs he's addressing are left dark and disapproving in the corner while Raren powers a statue beneath them. He could be demonstrating how the spell effects the world around them, maybe it freezes the stone? maybe it brings the statue to life? Either way its primed to eat Raren's opposition. Two of the bg guys are red one is blue maybe he's an arch nemesis who knows.

Art process and wips under the cut

I'm trying and failing to get better at visual story telling while keeping things simple. My long term goal is to have a frequent and consistent posting schedule. Most of the art would be stylized and simple like this and the rest could be fully rendered.

Art has been more of a "draw what's in you head and make it look pretty/ cool to hang up later" thing to me w/ the benefit of being a good source of self reflection as I create. Writing has more so been my go to for expressing that meditation. Writing I don't share because im unnecessarily cagy abt my emotions and my harshest critic lol. I want to tell stories with my art , convey tone, feeling, etc. and right now my paintings don't do that. I don't have the technical skill yet. This painting is the first of many to come that will hopefully change this.

The texture in this is chaotic and the line work is rough. Raren is the only part of this with a full sketch. All other line art was added to create the illusion of detail. There is less attention on rendering each section and more being put into the placement of characters and props. I had hoped this would make the painting go faster and...it has the potential to do so in the future. Sooo a piece that could have taken a couple hours took a whole day.

While im not overly thrilled with the final image im still happy about the process. Normally the dragon would be the only real focal point in my painting with the bg being a gradient, or a simple theme added last second. Conveying a message is more work but it gives more cool things for the eye to look at and the mind to ponder. So in theory even if the final result is aesthetically unappealing the theme can still salvage the work a bit.

what this taught me:

sketchy line work is passable in the final image

it can even add character to the art

plants are a great way of filling space without actually doing so

(hence the wip of the room looking empty af with out them)

the more clothing and eye candy you put on your character the more clutter you have to add to the bg to balance it out

the main oc was sketched the bg was painted on the fly

doing so saved time but harmed the natural flow of the piece

all of the storytelling is happening in quarters and it is almost abrasive to look at

find a color palette to stick to

or work in greyscale first

write a little picture synopsis

or pick a theme

just find something that acts as a story guide

im in my elliott & sunshine era rn it seems. i cant stop thinking abt them. so heres some of my hc for them! the sunshine hc’s are specifically for my oc (charlie, he/they), but im keeping it neutral so others can apply it to their oc’s/sunshine hc’s maybe :0

; OK SO. elliott and sunshine’s favorite movie collectively is “tangled”. i mean its their absolute fave. they watched it together on their first official date, it’s their comfort movie, they have matching jewelry of the sun symbol, theyve cosplayed/gone as flynn and rapunzel a bunch of times for halloween, etc. like these guys LOVE tangled. and apparently there’s a new disney ride of the lantern festival in disneyland tokyo. so, in a world where the balance didnt separate them, and theyre together and happy and healing, i like to imagine they decide to visit a disney and go on the ride if they have it there. and id like to imagine that when theyre in the lantern section, they both reach into their pockets and pull out boxes. and, with tears streaming down their faces and the biggest fucking grins imaginable, they propose to each other (and ofc they both say yes) <3

Things to keep in mind while writing a south asian character-

(Since I'm a mixed south-north indian and a hindu-sikh I've mainly included details about indian-hindu characters(ill try to include more abt sikh characters aswell)tho ive tried to include as much info as I can abt other south asian countries aswell !also ,if you want,feel free to add more details in :)

And please forgive my grammar in some of these places XD

1.The most common one,of course being that south asia is not all india.countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri lanka,Bhutan etc exist to.

2.Religion tends to be a big part of many south asian people’s lives , and If not a big part of their life,than most south asians are atleast religious in one way or the other.Different religions are in majority in different regions of south asia.For example,Sri lanka is majority buddhist, mainly in the sinhalese majority while the tamil minority there is majority hindu. But it's more than valid if ur character is atheist to tho!

3.For indian characters specifically ,it's is important to know what state they are from and that state’s culture . For example,most (or almost all)tamil characters won't wear a salwar kameez.(if they do then mostly muslim tamils)(reminder;I'm talking about traditional wear. Yes a lot of Tamil's could wear a salwar kameez if they want but it is not the traditional dress of tamil nadu)

4.India itself is very diverse,so don't make every character hindu.in some regions one religion is more in the majority than the others.If you decide to make a christian-indian character ,than they usually are from south-west india and north-east india.

5.If you decide to make a hindu-indian character as maybe a marvel/dc oc or something , its best to do some research on hindu stories and history.trust me,it helps alot. If not a hindu character than do research on the folk tales of that characters region,as that can help to.

6.NOT EVERY INDIAN SPEAKS HINDI.INDIAN/HINDU ARE NOT LANGUAGES.istg please . All it takes is one search of your characters state and the states description almost always mentions the state’s official language.while some character from non Hindi speaking areas of the country, for example a malyalee person could know how to speak hindi (most probably by living somewhere like delhi),they would still talk in malayalam with family and stuff . Also a pakistani character and Hindi speaking indian can almost always communicate easily since since the most spoken language in Pakistan,Urdu is very similar to Hindi in sound(also a lot of indians,specifically muslim indian’s have urdu as their first language.)Also punjabi Pakistani's and Indian's don't have any problem in communication(the script they write punjabi in is different tho)Also since a lot of people from the north had their ancestors migrate from pakistan to india during partition regional languages of Pakistan such as sindhi,multani,balochi etc can be understood by some people of such descent living in India.And a bengali speaking indian and a Bangladeshi can communicate just as well.Nepali speaking indians and Nepali people can also communicate with each other.But when it comes to Sri Lankan tamil people their dialect is different than the one of indian tamilians,so their tamil is better understood by malyalees,but they can still communicate well enough with each other.afghan people speak pashto and dari.pashto is also understood by a small amount of ethnic pashtuns who live throughout the sub continent.People from the Maldives speak the language of dhivehi.

7.Indians overall have many festivals that all people of usually a certain community celebrate regardless of religion,caste,etc.For example ,the people in kerela celebrate onam.Infact in alot of the state’s people from a specific region have their on festivities.

8.Physical features vary from area to area of South Asia.So there is no definite“south asian“look.

9.Sikh’s don’t cut their hair , that’s why most Sikh women have long hair and most Sikh men wear turbans. Although some do, like my uncle from my mom’s side and my mom herself and etc. Though socially it's more acceptable for a sikh woman to cut her hair then a sikh man. But a load of times sikh immigrants do have to sadly cut their hair and take off their turbans in order to get jobs and all.

10.-And Hindu’s don’t eat beef.Most Sikh’s and overall all Indians tend to avoid beef to.a lot of Hindus are vegetarians due to religious beliefs. Tho mallus and some people from the north east for example usualy do eat beef(mainly the non hindus)

11.-For characters specially from south india(that to mainly kerala and tamil Nadu) the naming tradition that is used most commonly is that the child and wife use the father’s name as their last name. Though I've noticed that outside of their states atleast they tend to use their family names, but very rarely caste names.

12.- Believe it or not, in a show( I'm not sure about the name) a pakistani character had the name“shiv reddy“.pissed me of sm.yes pakistani hindus exist but if I havent already mentioned before,CERTAIN LAST NAMES BELONG TO CERTAIN AREAS. Reddy is an indian telugu hindu last name.please do your research.

13.-This applies to a good amount of north indians and just overall non south indians.south india is not one state.madras was the OLD name for Chennai, which is just one CITY in one state of south india.There are 5 states,6(and more) languages spoken. Please do not confuse those cultures.

14.-As for a good amount of non punjabis...please.punjabis are not all “balle-balle“ sikh people.please. And they're not all angry people looking for a fight either.

15.-Talking abt north india,I need to mention bollywood and how they stereotype.bombay aka the film city is in Maharashtra.yet they still stereotype Maharashtrians as poor people.gujjus are always the rich snobbish ppl.bengali ppl are sweet shy people and nepali people are Chinese. Goans are always english speaking drunkards or high attitude aunties.rajasthanis all have a heavy accent and are royalty and Uttar pradeshis-biharis are poor illiterate people. PLEASE STOP WITH THIS STEREOTYPICAL BULLSHIT ISTG. See,stereotypes exist because they are true, but only a part of the truth and over exaggerated asf.

16.-India does have a poverty issue but we are far from a third world country.most indians are middle class,that to is split in between lower middle class,middle middle class and upper middle class.and until or unless you live in a rural area casteism really isn't a problem.but remember,while casteism is illegal in indian law,it still affects people.it’s just a little less prevelant in big cities. While india is the farthest ahead in south asia atleast the rest of the countries are doing well for themselves as well.

17.-hindu culture specifically has so much lgbtqia+ stuff in it.but the fucking brit’s and Mughals ruined it. The only transgender festival of Asia is held in tamil nadu.seriously, I advise you do research of your own on it and you'll love it to!♥️

18.-Btw, hindi is a language,hindu religion. (had to add this again)Your character prolly from some place like madhya pradesh,bihar,Uttar pradesh,Delhi,uttarakhand or himachal pradesh if they are hindi speaking. Some people have the same confusion with malayalam. Malayalam is a language, malyalee’s are the people who speak it or at from kerala.

19.-talking about food.curry is a wide ass term.wdym by curry?fish curry,mutton curry or is it paneer curry?is it more creamy or not?do you eat it by itself,with rice,a paratha/parotta or all?like seriously stop with “curry“ ITS ANNOYINGGG.again food varries alot area by area.even in a specific area food varries. For example,Kerala-Tamil nadu sambar is damn spicy but sambar from karnataka and telugu states tends to be sweeter.also food from Karnataka is much milder in spice then food from Andhra,but still capable of burning the mouths of most non south asians 😍😘🥰.also,we tend to eat most of our food with hands(THE best way.)famous delicacies vary from country to country in south asia and area to area of india btw. And our food is not ’smelly’, it's FRAGRANT.

20.ok so ive in total had 2 specific segments dedicated to language and this is the third one.India,while having only 22 offical languages(again;i remind you,we do not have a national language)actually has like thousands of languages. Native people from even just one state can have different mother tongues(for example-three people who were born and raised in karnataka and have families that are native to the state could have the languages of kannada,tulu and kodava as their mother tongues).And again,dialects also differ.For example,Bombay hindi and the hindi of a person from Uttarakhand would be different, and so would Bangalore tamil and a Madurai native’s tamil.Also,let’s say a telugu person has been living in mumbai for a while,very rarely will they ever have an ’accent’ while speaking hindi or english.

21.so above i mentioned that alot of people from the north have had ancestors move in from pakistan during the partition(and vice versa for some Pakistani's).Similarly,a good amount of people from west bengal had their ancestors move in from bangladesh(and vice versa again,but unlike the north india-pakistan thing indian bong’s and bangladeshi people don’t exactly have that ’divide’).Adding this in specifically not only because of how important this is but it can give more depth to your characters if they are from any of these areas.

22.Every state has different art forms.be it dance,music or just art,every state has it different.India has 8 classical dances(bharatanatyam,kuchipudi, mohiniyattam,kathakali,oddisi,kathak, manipuri and sattriya) and has countless many more.Music also varies and so does art as i said above.

23.our culture is super feminist but fucked by the brits and mughals again. We had so many queens and princesses that fought wars and also many female warriors.In the ancient times women only wore single drape saris and didn’t cover their breasts because they were not seen as sexual,but infact as a sign of motherhood(and there forth strength).If they were covered,it was for support.

24.Most people know atleast 3+ languages and almost everyone knows 2 at the very least. Sometimes they can even understand(which can range from basic to great) some other languages. For eg.- my dad can speak english,hindi,telugu,konkani,tulu,punjabi,urdu and multani+ he can understand malayalam,kannada,sindhi and tamil well enough.

Started feeling for Maliketh recently.

Truly, I didn't much care for him. Malenia and Miquella is basically all that matters for me... Plus some smaller characters and my OCs. Moreover, I don't much care abt the DLC (obviously it contradicts greatly with what I knew and loved, what gave life to my own story which is really dear to me).

But then I think I saw some headcanons and discussions on him and got inspired myself.

Marika's backstory has some nice potential for hurt-comfort, and I love it.

So the idea of Maliketh, then-Gurranq, finding young Marika after she escaped her fate, got stuck in my head. How he was talking care of her and became her new family.

His people probably suffered from the hornsent too, Gurranq has lost his family just like Marika, that's why they stuck together.

Actually, today I had a dream (continued in a daydream before waking up) about all this, saw it well in my head, and oh... Imagined them living in an empty abandoned hut, where he tended to her wonds. Gurranq then went hunting and foraging for food. Some people from the village nearby didn't care much for these two being there (like not reporting them to Hornsent inquisution, or chasing out, or something). They were even helping: Gurranq did the hunting for them too, traded meat for things he couldn't get otherwise (that's the way they could survive rather well). Maybe that's why those villagers let them occupy the hut in the first place: he was of use to them.

Of course, in the end, much later, he was betrayed anyway, which is really bitter.

I'm very much willing to infodump abt her UwU but I will do it in separate posts, step by step! So feel free to ask more - even specific things about her you want to discover and her surroundings/family/background/relationship etc!

Now! I introduced some basic info in this post! I will now proceed to expand it with some fun facts about Estrela's origins as an OC!

Origins: Estrela is actually a very old OC of mine. I think I created her "beta" version in 2010 or so? I never posted her online but I still have some old drawings of her somewhere at home - not going to show them since they were, hu, the opposite of good-looking x3

I literally created her in the first place just because I needed, at the time, an excuse for Ludwig to have a random girlfriend and a daughter later in life. Her original name was Stella, the Italian name for "star". She was a sort of Royal Koopa/Tarrasquin but shorter, without spikes on her shell and without horns (maybe I thought of it as a softer subspecies of Royal Koopas? I really can't remember rn).

Let's say that A LOT of things changed from 14 years ago!

The only details that I kept are basically her hair and eyes colors and her name's meaning - "Estrela" comes from the Spanish word "estrella", that still means "star". I now see her having a star-shaped birthmark on the back of her shell - something I want to show you if I'll do a reference sheet for my OCs and HC versions of the characters x3

Still talking about names: Estrela's sisters, or half-sisters to be accurate, share a similar style for their names: the older one is named Dorada, while the middle one is named Celestiel (I can't wait to show them to you, as soon as I'll be able to draw decently again on PC). Their mother, that all the three share, was the one naming them.

Intro abt her relationship with Ludwig: In my 2010 version, I think they were just childhood friends that ended up in love when teen/young adults if I remember correctly, but it was a bit plain and too straightforward for my current tastes.

Nowdays, instead, (the new) Estrela met Ludwig thanks for a shared passion: music, specifically playing in an orchestra! In fact, she was able to enter the young Tarrasquin's personal orchestra as a violist at some point, after she could not join any of the Mushroom Kingdom's orchestras due them being already full. Here she met the director himself, he noticed her skill and... what happened next it's a long and complex story, I'll maybe tell you one day ;3

btw about the oc accents/dialects post, from a linguist nerd perspective, if you feel like ur chara has x accent/dialect even if it "doesnt make sense" for their location, you can see it as a case of localisation in translation. this is for ex if you watch a japanese anime, where a character originally has a hokkaido dialect, it might have been translated as a northern-sounding / countryside-sounding dialect in the language of the translation.

so technically juni has a south hoof jorvegian dialect, and if she spoke another language she might have a south hoof jorvegian accent to some degree, but since i dont know jorvegian (i would if i could :/), im writing her in english or swedish or another language. in this case, i can choose to give her a different dialect/accent to represent the "vibe" of her original dialect. for example, maybe some welsh english could make sense for south hoof? or maybe it should be countryside swedish accented english, if i imagine jorvegian could be similar to swedish?

or maybe i just want give her countryside swedish accent in english just to express myself and my irl experience, whether or not it really makes sense rationally in canon, and thats fine too. it doesnt have to make sense it can be just fun and silly. language is something expressive and creative and thats great :D

(* abt localisation. sometimes dialects and ways of talking arent attempted to be localised in translations, sometimes they are. localisation can help an audience get a similar impression of the characters / story / settings as in the original work by relating it to your local experiences, however, it can also be criticised for erasing the original context and culture and not helping the audience understand the original, instead of replacing it with things they already know. it can be a complex choice and balance. for funny example, see pokemon jelly donut)

Mmmmm my take on drawing/portraying America or Canada as racialized people is that well its all in good fun but like if you poke a little deeper at . That idea. It can be quite sinister. Like to speak from my own Lane™️ the idea of some ...native person representing Canada or America it's just like... talk about a fuckin apple. Lol. I understand why people do it especially other poc and especially other natives but like at the same time it does seem to me that it'd just be coming from a place that shows ya don't know much abt what's going on in the front lines and how many of our people reject that Canadian and American identity outright and have very little to do w it. I know people who's kids were born in land occupied by Canada who refuse to register them with birth certificates and stuff because they're so against being Canadian. I know a lot of people myself included who take offense to that word Canadian we aren't none of that we been around much longer than even the countries the people who created Canada come from.

I think a native Canada (n I speak on that bc that's more my experience than with usa but ik it's similar lol) would be a level of fuckin...white washing appleness that would just be bizarre. . Like how would this native Canada person just not go "Hey Mr prime minister go fuck yourself". How would this native Canada person call themselves that when Canada barely exists and couldn't exist without treaty. Like. It is weeeeeird. I get we want representation but how about scrap America scrap Canada they are lame anyways and just make amazing ocs.... or you can change the whole story snd that Matthew Williams fella could be native still and maybe the Canadians think he's Canada but he knows he isn't and is doing stuff to like....fuck over the country. I don’t think there’s any one universal experience in being a Therian or having a nonhuman identity. Some find it a very positive experience overall while others find it a very stressful and difficult experience. I think like many other identities there will be good and bad, fluctuations in how your OC may feel at any given time.

Maybe they at first try to hide their identity and feel ashamed. They don’t talk about it to anyone and feel like they are making it all up in their head, many therians I’ve meet often have imposter syndrome in their own lives. And maybe overtime your Oc learns to push through the feelings of doubt before finely embracing their identity in all of its forms.

Maybe they have always had a feeling they were different. Despite everything they felt separated from their peers and loved ones around them, but never had words to properly describe their feelings. Until one day they discover their identity and it all clicks into place, they find the correct words for their feelings and it all makes sense. The years of feeling out of place finely comes together and they feel at ease with this new found understanding of themselves.

Maybe they don’t care about their identity all that much. Maybe it is only one small factor of their life and there are other things that take priority over it. They may still be a Therian but they are also have many other identities or aspirations that influence them and make them who they are. Their job, their school, their friends, their family, their religion, their gender, their race, their sexuality, other parts of their lives take priority first so being a Therian is just one more thing to them.

Maybe they feel dread. They hate the body they live in and they loath the life they live. Being nonhuman has been one small bright spot in their life, but they wish they could run away from it all. Go into the world as their true self and be seen for what they are on the inside rather then the outside.

Or maybe they’ve always known they were a Therian and have loved every second of it. They are out, proud and loud. No shame. No guilt. They love their lives as authenticity and happily as possible without a single doubt.

There is no right to wrong way to feel about your own personal identity, that’s entirely up to you to decide. Or- I guess your OC to decide lol. I feel like looking at your OCs lives experience and their personality might be the best way to build a story about how they feel about their identity. I find it really fascinating when characters perception of themselves is shaped by the world they live in or how they experience things.

On one hand, I do get anon's point. The first few times I saw Xunyang fanart I just thought it was a Xuexiao AU and didn't look too much closer because I don't go there and I abide by the "don't like, don't click" philosophy of life. On the other hand, this is MDZS. MDZS, in my humble opinion, is chalk full of character designs that are way too similar. Especially when you're using CQL as the basis. I freely admit to squinting at Wangxian fanart sometimes, especially in modern AU's, and asking myself "is this Wangxian or Xuexiao?"

So I just think that the similar character designs are just in-keeping with the overall theme of how similar all the MDZS character designs are. I can't really speak for the personalities though because I never read the fic, Xuexiao is a big nope for me but OC x Canon is a bigger nope for me. I do like OC x OC though, so if you ever wind up shipping Wen Xun with another OC I'll be there to eat that up. I also absolutely support you making your content for it, it's not for me but a lot of your other content is.

So yeah, while I understand where anon's confusion is coming from, I don't really think it's entirely fair considering the general lack of distinction between MDZS character designs. If you had designed WX in a way that didn't look similar to other characters from the series, he probably would have stood out way too much standing next to the canon characters. This isn't YGO where the more outlandish the character design, the more they fit in with the rest of the cast. Or even WOH where there's clearly a lot of effort put in by the character designers to make each character have distinct hair styles and outfits. MDZS and CQL are full of characters with similar hair who wear similar uniforms and unless the artist is really skilled at drawing distinct facial features, the characters will inevitably look similar.

I'm sorry for the super long ask. I just wanted to defend your choices in designing him the way you did. I think you did a very good job following the themes of how the character designs in MDZS are very limited and you did give him distinct features that allowed him to be recognized. Unless you chose to draw a design that didn't fit well with the theme of the other characters, WX was bound to look similar to at least one other MDZS character, if not multiple characters. And the fact that you used a different CQL character as the basis for the design and he wound up looking so similar to XXC is just proof of how insanely similar all these character designs are.

On that note, I do think it would be funny to talk about WC and XXC having similar character designs. I never thought that they did and it's been a very long time since I looked at CQL but I think it'd be super funny to explore an AU where they do look similar. XXC being a long lost Wen heir? Or maybe they just coincidentally look similar and it's a "prince and the pauper" situation?

I think the very first thing anyone would notice is her obsession with dragons, and her slightly distant and introverted personality. I mean I can picture her having dragon imagery EVERYWHERE (like in earrings, brooches, her dresses/clothing, wooden dragon figures, necklaces, etc.), how much she loves talking about her dragons (especially her eldest dragon Silvermoon 🤭), and how she constantly is hatching dragoneggs for herself and her loved relatives. And... Well, regarding her slightly distant personality, it would be notorious because she barely speaks a word to anyone new and just stands there staring at them like 👀 and maybe she will just immediatly let you know if she likes you or not in a non-discreet manner 🤭

2 ) How does their social personality differ from how they act when they’re alone?

Well, as I said earlier, I imagine she would socially be distant and reserved — but also confident in herself, and will not doubt in telling you what she thinks about you. But in her inner circle and loved relatives, she would be very caring, tender, and attentive. My Nia would show her softer side, and maybe even tightly embrace and smooch everyone she adores. Huge romantic vibes (platonically) with her family, even gifting them little things like pieces of jewellery, books, flowers, or dragoneggs. 💗

Her body is ALWAYS hot for some reason (like it emanates heat from her basically lmao), Verynia often taps her fingers on any surface when thinking or confronting someone, and walks in circles when thinking and having to be stood up.

Absolutely, yes. No matter who she’s talking to, the strong eye contact is there. (wish I could do that though 😔)

Definitely! I think that Nia would spend too much time taking care of the people she loves/trusts, that she barely takes care of herself. And I pressume that her bravery also comes with her recklessness. 😅

This is a very important question I feel like I need to develop a bit more around her! For short, until I properly develop her views, I feel like all the things that happened in the canon series of HOTD would lead her to keep a strong, reserved personality for herself because she knows that she needs to be aware of anyone trying to snatch away her position, or the position of her big half sister in general — and she would be very skeptical about relying on others that she fully doesnt know or trust. (this is said very vaguely so i still need to fit her properly into canon and develop her personality around the situations!)

7 ) How would your story in canon go? How would you influence the events of the original story?

As I said earlier, I still need to think properly on how to fit her right into canon! But yes, I suppose she would influence. I like to think that she helped her family organise war strategies against the Greens to claim her sisters Throne, gather as much allies as possible, and even go to war herself 🤭

8 ) What is your trait that fanon would exaggerate?

Her defiance, and bold self. While I mighy portray and think of her as bold, confident, hot-headed, reckless and a bit rebellious at times; my girl would know her limits. And of course, it’s not like she would act on impulse to her instincts. I mean... Maybe she does, actually yes 😂 but depends the situation, or if someone pushes her to the brink. On a situation that needs to be taken seriously — such as war and taking back a throne —, she would never take decisions out of impulse, or act bold without thinking. Nia would think of situations beforehand strategically before doing anything, and I feel like if she were canon the fanon would overemphasise her boldness and defiant self to the point they would portray her as basically head empty only vibing and just randomly following her instincts instead of being reckless only when necessary. (MAN I HOPE I ANSWERED THIS PROPERLY)

9 ) How would someone who loved you portray you?

(Answering this with the interpretation that it would be for how the fanon that loves her portrays her) For someone who would love her and/or is on the Black Team, she would be portrayed as courageous, girlboss vibes and genuinely protective of her family to the point she would literally kill and get killed for her beloved ones. Especially because she literally is willing to sacrifice every inch of herself if it means to fight and stand for what is right.

10 ) How would someone who hated you portray you?

(Same but uhh for people tending to support more the Green Team ajdjkel) Daemon but less (wayy less) worse, or maybe like a younger Nyra but more defiant. Toxic, arrogant, dismissive to the situation of the Greens (Aemonds eye loss, yk...), and as someone who disregards the true authority, I think. Perhaps they would even call her a whore for flirting with her own betrothed bastard nephew... but yk, its HOTD!!! 😅🙏

When I read this I wasn’t sure if the OP meant similar in personality, or physically! So I will just go for both 🤙😅 Personally, I think she would probably be most similar to Nyra, in many ways: rebellious attitudes, fights for what is right, but is very loving and caring with her family. Physically idk, not any canon character in particular! Her hair would be the typically long platinum Targaryen hair, and her eyes would be like her mothers. I like imagining that before marrying Alicent (and im about to get really cringy with my own daydreaming so hold tight), King Vizzy married for a short while a Princess named Seraphyna Thornspyke in a little continent I made up called Astralis — and she would be the future heir to the Throne in there bc they believe in female empowerment yessir 🤙. Her eyes were dark and her hair was too so Verynia inherited her mothers dark eyes 🤭 (i need to stop rambling...)

Regarding the canon scenes, I have SO many scenes in mind 🤭 I have a bit of no shame in admitting that she would 100% get shipped with Lucerys because it’s dead obvious she favours him over anyone else, and how their personalities complement each other perfectly (like, she’s the typical hot-headed, bold, yet loving girlie that defends to death the timid, soft, insecure sweet boy). If my OC/Self-Insert (sorry) were canon, the most obvious ship validation scene is during the betrothal announcements scene in Kings Landing and during the betrothal feast/dinner. The first scene during the announcements would be sooo obvious bc she would be by his side and when its announced that Luke is marrying his cousin shes like, eye-twitching (not literally though, more as a way of saying HHAHS), and with the worst moody ass face that simultaneously is holding back tears 😂 and this lasts until the betrothal dinner 👀 And there I like to imagine that our sweet boy notices shes pouty and keeps trying to look elsewhere and he has no idea what tf to do until Jace takes Helaena to dance and Luke just copies his big brother. My Nia would still be fuming a bit but at the same time she feels flattered and flustered. And I can imagine that he would try not to ask her why she seems upset, so instead he compliments her dancing and oh well, fuck the anger of the betrothal; her mood has been lifted and she just giggles awkwardly and compliments him back. From there they would just kind of giggle stupidly at each other flustered at their compliments and they would also silently mock Aemond sjkfmrei OOHHH AND ALSO WHEN THEY STARTED FIGHTING AND AEGON FACEPLANTED LUKE AGAINST A PLATE OF FOOD SHE WOULD IMMEDIATLY TRY TO THROW HANDS AT AEGON So yeah thats evidence number one that would validate the ship 100%. Then I imagine random scenes of them staring randomly at each other and stupidly smiling, and her cheering for Luke when training with Jace and and and another one where before leaving to Storms End she quickly hugs him from behind and tells him that shes very proud of who he is and our shy boy is all blushing akifmelclfkg AGHHH i need to shut the fuck up now !!!
