nothing (besides everyone ignoring Orym's deal) has made me angrier than watching Dorian keep up this facade. Dorian Storm has always been a type of mask he's worn. At first he called himself a liar because of it. The happy go lucky bard was a way of escaping for him. He was escaping Brontë so he created Dorian. He didn't believe he was Dorian. Until the Crown Keepers made Dorian real. And for a while, he really believed he was Dorian. That he has this new family and new life and he could be who he truly wanted to be.

And then his brother came back and made his problems Dorian's problems. Until he had to put Brontë back on. Because even if the Crown Keepers + Cyrus called him Dorian, he was Brontë. He had to be who his brother thought he was.

When Cyrus dies, the thread to Brontë had snapped. He was going to see Orym, back to the Bells Hells, back to Dorian Storm. But the foundation of Dorian had shattered. Dorian was created in order to run from his place in life, family, Cyrus. Now he was gone. The Crown Keepers had fallen apart. His friends fell through his fingers and he couldn't do anything to stop it. He was once ready to side with a betrayer god for these people and now they're in the wind.

So Dorian shows back up to Bells Hella and he's completely broken. The foundation of both of his lives has been thoroughly rocked. No brother. No Crown Keepers. The two things that forged Dorian Storm. He wears that mask so fucking well. Because he still wants to believe in it. He said it live on stage that he should "believe his own backstory". The one he made up. The one where he was a bard.

He wants to be Dorian so bad. He spends all his money on Orym, he spins the bottle so he can kiss his friends, he flirts, he blushes and giggles at compliments. Exactly how Dorian would, should.

But he wears the gold of the heir. He has a festering animosity inside his chest. He doesn't sleep. He's thinner than he was. He doesn't sleep. He sicks abominations after their creators. He talks to God's without an ounce of self preservation, daring them to strike him down. He does not acknowledge them as they taunt him.

The god of beauty and magic calls him beautiful and he does not smile.

What I love about Hellboy and Abe Sapien's dynamic in the comics is that, if you came into this blind, you'd expect Abe to be the voice of reason or the straight man to Hellboy's impulsive and hotheaded personality. But no, Abe is more often than not the crazy one. Hellboy would deal with fighting evil monsters and bad guys by just sighing and getting it over with, while Abe is going rabid over tearing the creature apart when he does get into a fight. Hellboy acts like it's a 9-to-5 job and will reasonably talk things out with a guy that had nearly killed him before, Abe acts like a madman in a slaughter house and his first instinct is to shoot first kill second and ask third. They're both insane, but on completely different levels.

I think it’s still valid to be surprised by MC’s reaction because:

Even if she didn’t expect him to be reinstated so soon, did she not expect Trystan to want to take a freaking moment to process everything that just happened? Although he often talks about how much he dislikes his family and living in Drakovia, that’s still the place he was born and the family he was born into. As you said, she fell in love with a disgraced, exiled prince. He was still forced to leave said country and the family members/(maybe friends) he did have good relationships with. His birthright was stripped from him and his name was dragged through the mud because people thought he murdered the woman he loved. So maybe, just maybe, he would want a second to breathe now that he’s back and his name has been cleared. And maybe he would also want to figure out who the hell has been trying to frame him for the murder in the first place because the trial made it obvious that someone is actively trying to get him to go down for it. And that person most likely had something to do with Juliana’s murder. Like OP said, this MC is not stupid, but she seems to be having a lot of trouble connecting dots right now, which is just OOC.

This, along with number 1, is MC’s problem. She’s being selfish. I can understand that she might be afraid of losing her partner. But assuming that Trystan would want to just leave and go back to “normal” and acting like he’s crazy for wanting to consider just because she doesn’t want to be in Drakovia is wrong. But this isn’t really something that caused surprise for me. It just made me angry because it shows a lack of consideration on MC’s part for someone she is supposed to love and care for. This MC is very logical, but also knows how to be compassionate. Logic + compassion + the love that she has for Trystan should have affected how she responded in that scene in my opinion.

I disagree that Trystan was the first one to be an ass. Even if we ignore what I said about MC being selfish by assuming that he would want to leave, the fact that she told Trystan what to do (“you have to tell them no”) and, again, dismissed his need to process things (“what’s there to get your head around”) were asshole moves. I’m also gonna play a little game of semantics here and say that Trystan said he “was hoping that [she] might stay”. Hoping and assuming are very different things. People keep saying that Trystan was presumptuous for thinking MC would remain in Drakovia with him, but I don’t see any evidence of that. He hoped that she would stay because she’s his partner romantically and professionally. He hoped that she would stay to help him work through his emotions and dealing with his family at a time like this because she cares about him and that’s what romantic partners do. But, and now I’m gonna do some analysis, Trystan knows what MC is like. He knows how important her job is to her. And despite some people misinterpreting him hoping she would stay (I’m pretty sure he meant for the time being) as him hoping she would stay in Drakovia forever because he’s already made up his mind about taking the throne… Trystan is not the type of person who would make assumptions like that. That’s just making him out to be someone he’s not. He knows that MC is a workaholic. He would not expect MC to just drop her life and career back in NY to stay in Drakovia indefinitely. However, he hoped that she would give him some time and support him. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

Even if what MC said was out of shock/desperation/fear, no one is going to take kindly to being dismissed and told what to do. That is how it came across. I will say that I didn’t like Trystan’s response either, but I do understand it. I don’t understand what MC said before that because of the things I previously mentioned.

6. I can maybe understand fearing that Trystan would get so wrapped up in all these duties that he wouldn’t have time to actually think about what he wants. But there is a way to express that without completely flying off the handle. So maybe seeing unnecessary arguments and “angst” like this is fun and interesting to some people, but it’s not to me and many others. So I can understand why it was surprising and irritating. Also, even if MC doesn’t care about royalty and what that entails, she still has to know that there is a certain etiquette, that Trystan can’t just up and leave after being reinstated, and that perhaps he wouldn’t immediately want to even if he could. She may not like it as someone who is known to hate red tape and formalities. But she is aware that those things still exist and that she is not in the US where we don’t have monarchies. So she shouldn’t be expecting things to proceed in the same way or on her timeline. And despite her feelings about it, her significant other is someone who grew up in this world and who apparently does care about it. And that should be enough for her to respect and trust what he told her — that he needs some time to think. Now if she wants to leave in the meantime, then she can leave as no one is expecting or forcing her to stay. I think what Trystan and some of us readers did expect was just for her to be considerate

Does PB really, really, REALLY make us want to believe our Crimes of Passion MC has no idea how royalty works? ESPECIALLY when we're dating the HEIR to the throne?

Louis' "You're boring!" Could mean so many things, but I think what's most apparent about that line is that Armand takes no initiative just for himself. He's not really anybody, because he never goes out and finds himself or gets attached to anyone but Louis. Without Louis as his guide he's literally just sitting on a couch picking lint! That's the thing.

He orbits constantly around what would make Louis happy, and never really fully going what would make me happy? Ultimately that drive to please Louis is what drives him to torturing Daniel, not so much that he'd care to just do it. Ultimately, not giving proper care to Louis is just a way to make sure Louis knows he has to orbit around him as well, with shoving Lestat onto him just that other nail on the coffin. So, even if he fails to figure out how to make Louis happy with him, he still knows what Armand is good for, and better than.

That dependency is what drives Armand's abuse. It really just comes down to that. Armand doesn't even realize how suffocated he is by his own dependency. This is just how life is to him. (It shouldn't be lost either that dependency is a theme considering this episode also deals with addiction).

Daniel's fascinating because he's just so driven to be somebody. He's largely independent, he seeks things because he wants them. It's his drug to poke and prod at all the things that he shouldn't. Daniel's exciting because he lets Louis in to something different, lets him in to all this potential in another person that he can also do the same with for himself. It's a real connection. A two way street. It's easy to tell how Armand can be smothering then because he's never introducing him to anything really new, and most the ways both of them connect are all painful and traumatic. It's never just fun because there's always that layer of that pain. Fun died with Claudia.

50 years on they've gotten to a lot better place, both of them, but it's still that same shit. No seriously, "How is this any different from last time, Louis?"

Well... Because Armand's going to be, at the very least, making one [1] decision only for himself - and that's to hold power over Daniel's life. Fucking sick foreshadowing.

They aren't driving each other to the brink anymore but "The vampire is bored" STILL. Maybe it's even worse, despite being in better places, because Louis' sort of just been defeated by it. (I mean, can he even really leave this either?). He's accepting the dependancy cause he kind of has to. He'd literally ended up letting all the enjoyment be up where he can't reach [The book shelves]. Armand so desperately wants Louis happiness but what really ends up happening is that Louis ends up having to give Armand all his own. He's got no one or anything else to get it from. But like an iPad and an over the top eating ritual. Two extremes of what's just more lint picking.

This whole relationship is one I find just tragic inside and out. You have to just pity it, really. There's ways in which you can find yourself feeling bad for both of them. But you can only really be mad at Armand for any of it. Armand, who isn't even 'free' in any sense, having so little concept of his own independence, but is at the same time so controlling over other's. It's a tragic cycle. It's an infuriating one.

Louis at least has the mind to know when enough is enough. If just needing that extra push to get there. Armand's too scared of it being over to even try.

When we were developing the consumer version, we decided to add a bonus character. But we didn't have enough time to create any new characters. There was talk of making extra characters (characters with slightly different specs), which was what other companies were doing, but we felt that wouldn't be enough. We decided to thoroughly tinker with what we could, so we broke up Ky, added weird sound effects and gimmicks, and called him Robo-Ky. We joked that not only were the specs different, but the character itself was different too. However, he became quite popular and was promoted to a proper character on the roster later on. At first, his face was the same as Ky's. I decided to change it, making it more with a "robot" in mind. Or perhaps something like one of Leiji Matsumoto's robots, with a radar on his head. When you say "robot", there are all sorts of things that fall under this category like mobile suits, but when I say "robot", I mean it like this.

uhhh marc is, in general, good at keeping his (negative) emotions in check. like i think marc loooooves to think of himself on track as a mature, controlled, and rational dude. above distraction. a killer. a cyborg. idk his dad has talked about how he doesnt really complain much about injury and there's also allll these stories about what a mature kid he was... so i think that when he was young - ESPECIALLY in a racing sense because he was so much younger than most of the people he was competing against - he internalized that in order to do all the stuff he wants to do racing-wise, he reallyyyy has to keep a level head and not well. act his age! and i think that extends to a lot of how he manages his emotions today (at least in a public setting). even in places where im pretty sure hes PISSED (sepang. phillip island 2013.) he just kind of. visibly contains himself. not a confrontational dude in the outright sense he'll clench his jaw and try to work through it.

which is part of what makes his valentino-oriented crazy so interesting. bc people were noticing that marc in 2015 was kind of. being weird. as his and valentino's relationship deteriorated. like they were both outwardly very much like we can keep it on track :) until the big fallout towards the end of the year but uhhhh. well marc has said that vale started pulling back in september of 2014 like he was noticing SOMETHING, and they clashed on track A LOT in 2015, and i think marc sensed vale cooling on him and freaked a lil. hashtag neurotic 22 year old moments. he is my favorite crazy ex girlfriend. like usually he IS good at separating that stuff out and managing his emotions in the racing sense but in assen that year when vale overtook him off track after they made contact he raised a BIG stink with race direction and actually had some uh. not especially chill quotes about it. (it should be noted marc was also flopping for the first time in his motogp career. like in his brain he stopped winning AND vale stopped talking to him he was goin through it) adn all the reporters noticed too they were like. why werent you sucking and fucking in parc ferme. like vale's left turn wrt to spaniard sabotage comes outta nowhere but people WERE noticing that things were changing. i bet marc noticed too. BUT they are not the type of people to talk about these things so they keep it to vague flirting in presscons and escalating on-track tension slash proxy wars waged in race-direction contexts... liek truly you are 22 you are not going to keep your championship title and your hot sports idol bestie is no longer flirting with you on twitter and you COULD just talk to him about that but you'd rather DIE so youre going to ask honda to back you up to race direction about your last race where you DEFINITELY lost bc winning is the ONLY thing thatll make you feel better. even though thatll help convince your hot sports idol that you are engaging in a benedict arnold level betrayal scheme against him. an insane time to be marc marquez. 2015 really kind of is a study on how both of them handle losing: NOT WELL.

and then the thing about sepang is that then the lid is blown clean off and marc spends the ENTIRE race being annoying on purposeeeee. hes so fucking pissed and hurt at valentino that he decides to get under his skin for REALSIES instead of focusing on his race. like idk he probably would have fought hard for the win without the drama that how he works but uh. i think he was being annoying specifically to bite at vale's edges. and part of that is bc marc is naturally and effortlessly annoying. but i think part of it was SPITE. like his team advised him not to speak on anything from that presscon and he didnt, but he can still fuck him over on track. get under his skin. like he cant tell vale to his FACE that he's angry and confused and hurt. but he CAN let him know on that fucking racing line. where he cant be ignored. idk like i cant see marc letting anyone else get under his skin like that.

AND another big ass exception to the marc marquez anger management philosophy is from misano 2019 where vale messes with his qualifying lap. a lovely anon sent me some videos of marc talking to the press and jesus christ i dont think ive ever seen him angrier oh my god. AND the anon also linked the race from that weekend where he won and he celebrated harder than ive seen him celebrate some TITLE wins like he went. notably nuts. the commentators were all like uhhhh. he mustve REALLY wanted to get one over on vale adjfhlkdh... idk if any of this answered your question but his relationship to his emotions fascinates me hes so weirddddd. and its interesting to me that he can shrug off jorge ruining his last race at honda and be friendly but also be like. kind of aloofly pissed at bezz. because of valentino! he can repress the rest of it, but valentino shines through the cracks.

since playing twilight princess again i cannot get behind the lu fandom characterization of twilight and wild i'm sorry. like i think twilight would be an overprotective big brother figure towards wild, absolutely. but wild doesn't take that sitting down. he doesn't like being coddled, and it's pretty clear (side note: i do really appreciate the analysis posts about wars and how hard he's been on wild potentially pushing wild closer and closer to a rather big memory. you can sort of see how twilight is not happy with how warriors is acting, but he's not saying anything right now. probably because it's not his place to, and also probably because wild wouldn't want him to right now).

i think that twilight and wild have a very different relationship to what most of the lu fandom thinks. they're close - that much is obvious from how they react when the other is hurt, and how twilight pushed through the rest to get to wild during the memories comic. but i think that a lot of the time, it feels like wild only exists around twilight, or he can't be left without twi otherwise he'll "do something stupid" or whatever. wild doesn't exactly appreciate twi's protectiveness or his advice all of the time, but he still looks up to twilight. despite whatever went down when they first met, wild worked to gain twi's trust in order for them to be so close. they're equals - just like the rest of the chain are equals. and yes, wild does a fair amount of dumb things and he's impulsive about it, but i would like to argue that twilight also does a fair amount of dumb things (in game and in comic)

(i think it also kinda feeds in to how wild is sort of infantilized by the fanbase. he's already not exactly trusted by the rest of the chain (legend especially, for some reason), and i think i'd like to explore that and how his relationship with legend formed. they seem to think he's sort of a loose cannon, especially after the previous arcs. wild hasn't seemed to realize it yet, but i do think something is coming, especially with him and warriors)
