are two sentences that can, should, and MUST coexist to fully understand Anakin Skywalker as a character

#watching people debate him is so interesting to me #pro-Anakin people get it right in that upbringing shapes how a person is: he’s a slave child and had to leave his mom #so of COURSE he’s going to have an iron grip on people attachment-wise #but they tend to deny Anakin his own autonomy and resolve him of every bad thing he did #when it’s like: no. he DID all of that. not just did it…but did it once then did it again #meanwhile anti-Anakin people (usually) tend to understand that Anakin made terrible choices #but again…they either deny him autonomy by making him an always-evil character #or by just downplay the relationship he has with Obi-Wan or Padme. Completely dehumanizing him.#Like the truth is in the middle: he’s a deeply complex person #(arguably more so than fandom can completely understand)#it doesn’t help it that these people either tend to be pro Jedi (anti-Anakin) or pro Sith (pro Anakin)#Pro Jedi people tend to be…Xenophobic is the nicest term for how they treat Anakin #But pro Sith people tend to claim that the Jedi are a cult (they aren’t) and Anakin was groomed by it (he wasn’t)#So they use Anakin as the sort of doll to put all of their beliefs into. The 1st time I watched all of tos Turnabout Intruder was my favorite episode. Despite the pretty intense sexism and crazy shatner acting, I just find the idea really compelling.

#also i lov that its an episode that calls out spock and jims special relationship and bc jim is a woman at the time leonard nemoy is #touching the actress in ways he would not touch shatner so it makes their relationship come off as more intimate than usual #and again the sexism is really bad but bc the writing is kinda deeply flawed its only more compelling to me. like the ending is kinda dark #and weird bc they kinda put Janice's hysteria on her being a woman rather than being a damaged person. so in the end she confims #that she is unfit for command. is physical overpowered by a man. treated like and child. ans sent off to some mental hospital for care #while the men in power on the enterprise shake their heads and say. if only she could have been satisfied in her womans body. without #addressing how its pretty fucked that woman cant b starfleet captains. like. thats a pretty unsettling and weird ending. it makes me feel #bad and thats why i like it so much. but im a freak like that so idk #star trek #tos #spirk #spock #james t kirk #also. i shoulf have spent more time making this look nice but i fucked upbthe colors #but i dont wanna redraw again. i cant get the proses right #poses look weird

I love Garak and Kira because their characters are like... Yeah, trauma doesn't make you a better person. Sometimes trauma just makes you a bitter, caustic individual filled with regret and self loathing. That doesn't make you any less worthy of care or healing or community. It's not the trauma that saves you, it's community and being given the love we were denied. Pain isn't virtue.

INCREDIBLY LONG INCOHERENT TAGS RANT INCOMING FAIR WARNING HAS BEEN GIVEN:#it makes me so so sad how little discussion there is about specifically ikuko because imho she fits so neatly into a lot of the more #overarching Big Themes of the game in a way that i have not ever really seen people take notice of or point out in a meaningful way #like even just off of the top of my head. the significance of names and what it means to go by a name that's Not Yours (she has like 4+)#what it Means to be a witch how it represents a person's deepest insecurities and flaws & how its at its core a coping mechanism #the fact that it takes two to create a universe and trying to do it on your own anyways has the capacity to bring you intense misery #^ (how she's shown to be extremely dismissive of her own work and skill until a collaborator comes into her life and helps/encourages her)#and even the family/patriarchy/misogyny stuff that is so prevalent in the rest of the game comes back around to her. even her Only Friend #(young&stupid atp to be fair) remarks that shes Weird for being unmarried + the little she does say about her past invites the question of #to what extent her self-image stems from her family deeming her a freak outcast & effectively disowning her while celebrating her brothers #and i have lot in my mind about the witch thing specifically because i think her particular situation is very reflective of what umineko's #entire magic system and fantasy facet as a whole is meant to represent for an individual. from what little we see of (what is presumably)#her Real personality she is shown to be deeply self conscious in a way that is JARRINGLY diametrically opposed to both 1.) what we see in #featherine and 2.) what we see when she is acting as a Public Figure. because both of the above are very much purposeful acts that she is #putting on in order to obfuscate her true self. and i have always been very resolute & adamant about not totally equating her to featherine #not only because im very firmly in the camp of “featherine is the avatar of the Pen Name & tohya is part of her too” but also very much b/c #i feel very strongly that the stark differences between the two are very centrally relevant to her character & her psyche. as is the case #with most other witches featherine's personality traits serve to reveal/magnify a lot of ikukos inner workings by playing on her #insecurities/reversing them e.g. ikuko being very quick to downplay her skill/achievements becomes featherine being the COMPLETE opposite #to the point where she barely registers even other witches as living beings rather than just fun touys. BUT even though i do champion the #ikuko/featherine separation so hard i ALSO think it is purposefully relevant that at first glance the line between them seems so blurry #her introduction implying a more nebulous separation between her reality/fantasy counterpart is i think is an intentional move on her part #like it is part of the front she is putting up when acting as the Author. as opposed to Ikuko the person who we (in a way ironically very #similar to the way that the Real Battler is presumably only shown during the boatscene) only very briefly get to see take up screentime #which even on a meta level lines up very well with her apparent underlying nature as a like. extremely private largely reserved/shy person #hit tag limit but if by some miracle anyone is still reading this thank you... please see ikuko with the love she deserves... ok ily byeee

the implications of the show possibly making armand muslim are devastating. marius renames arun 'amadeo' meaning 'lover or beloved of god' which was ALREADY gross in the books since it places him as this godlike figure armand had to worship. and then later on, with the cult in rome and santino, he was forced into worshipping satan which caused a whole crisis for him even when book armand was christian. but if show armand is muslim everything gets a whole lot worse. in islam the biggest most unforgivable sin (if you don't repent) is shirk, or idol worship. by fashioning himself as armand's god, marius not only removed armand's cultural identity from him, he has tainted his faith which is arguably one of the only things armand could've held onto. marius essentially damns armand in one of the most irreversible ways possible by grooming him the way he did with religion as a weapon. and it gets even worse with the cult since armand is not only forced to commit shirk but to reject allah, one of the last ties he has to his cultural identity, completely. armand therefore becomes a metaphor and an example of what colonialism inflicts upon the colonised

idk if this is accurate but i’ve felt like in previous seasons riz & gorgug have been one of the inter-bad kids dynamics we’ve seen the least of & this season has been so great in that aspect. gorgug having helped make some of riz’s magic gear. riz helping gorgug with his studies. the shared birthday party. gorgug’s gift to riz being something he himself made to protect riz. riz’s gift to gorgug being something he illegally grabbed to protect gorgug. gorgug who utilizes rage to put his body on the line for his friends & riz who will take deep levels of mental stress for his friends. even though it was within the context of a joke, riz calling gorgug an “absolute sweetie.” like yea they might not be in a band together or both part of a presidential campaign team or owlbears teammates, but they’d go to war for each other, because they’re best friends.
