actually now that im on the subject bc i've never really talked abt this or shown you guys because i don't like to show off how it truly looks in photos, this is the state of my arm right now and has been this way since i was about 10 years old (i turn 30 this year :^)) because the doctors at the time said it would "break on its own" eventually (and never did! haha!) this is how my bones look and they deemed the power part of a chair i need a luxury. just. lmfao.

for reference btw, this is the kind of shower chair i was in need of (runs about $500-600 usd with the stand to make it taller in the shower for my mom to get me in and out of):

my mom used to buy those egg crate foam mattress toppers to lay down on top of it because i needed to lay down and the hard plastic was so harsh on my back and head, we did that for ~5 years!

i know it’s not what your post was about at all and you shouldn’t even have to think about this and it’s probably a lot more complicated than this but would it help if you started a fundraiser for a new chair? i feel like there are quite a few people here who would like to help you.

omg anon you're fine!! i just realized i never gave a real update, but the chair i had picked out (manual with power mechanics added on for ease of my 61 year old mother to carry around) was denied last month actually by medicaid because it wasn't "medically necessary" and "a luxury" despite the fact i have very little use of my right arm (doctor told me i basically have no shoulder last time i went lol) and i quite literally need the power component. my family doesn't have the room or means to transfer around a huge fucking power chair, so the fact that it was manual and fold up but still was something i could use was basically the entire point. supposedly they're supposed to be working on some kind of discussion on payment or something but it's been over a month so. lol.

if that option blows up when they eventually DO call (or if, i guess) i might consider it. some of my mom's friends a few years ago actually helped pay for a shower chair out of pocket because medicaid already wouldn't pay for that (another "luxury"! lmfao!) and had told me to just go buy a shower bench from walgreens :) thank u for the thought anon this was really sweet and honestly made me tear up a little dlkjsgklsjdjkl i've been on edge abt everything since yesterday, i hope your week is lovely 💕

this being rescinded (along with basically every covid 19 order) completely obliterates any protection from people not accessing the things they need or healthcare based on whatever the fuck they want at this point and has the potential to completely block access to those things because those practices and policies are just free game now. so many disabled people are going to suffer under this because they won't be able to access healthcare or receiving medicine or obtain assistive things like chairs and canes because the government says so. and the fact that i've seen quite literally nobody talk about this is making me sick to my stomach despite this deeply impacting every aspect of someone who relies on this's life
