you had been clung to your boyfriend’s side all night, and surprisingly, he didn’t find it annoying. two-bit and tim looked back and forth between you both, waiting for the moment that dallas would shove you off and gripe about personal space, or that you were messing up his shots as he played pool. but it never came.

the boys had noticed that in the two months you and dallas had been together, he seemed to have more patience. only with you though. he was still the same hotheaded seventeen year old he was when he was with them and everyone else.

but with you, he was as soft as a rotten banana.

you needed help? he’d drop anything for you. you wanted to cuddle? he didn’t care where he was he’d hold you. if someone made fun of you? he’d be calling a rumble on your behalf.

and in private it was so much worse. it confused the gang, but none of them brought it up. because who wanted to have a broke nose?

you were tired, and you wanted to go home. it stunk in here. it smelt of sweat, beer, weed, cigarette smoke, perfume, cologne, sex and so much more headache inducing smells. you felt like you wanted to puke. you had your knees to your chest, as you laid your head on dallas’ shoulder. he paid no mind, and continued talking to his friends, and drinking his beer. he had one hand wrapped around your waist, fiddling with the hem of your jacket, and rubbing the skin underneath.

dallas paused to take a drink of his beer and noticed your distant look. almost a pout even. he set his beer down and tugged you closer, which got your attention. you flicked your gaze up to his face as he spoke. “what’s wrong, baby, hm?” he spoke softly.

you sighed, leaning into his touch even more. you wanted to tell him, but he seemed content, having fun with his friends. you didn’t wanna ruin it. “nothing, i’m okay.” you spoke quietly, lying your head back down.

but of course, he wasn’t buying it. he sighed and tilted your chin up to face him again. “bullshit,” he spoke, firmly but gently at the same time. “what’s going through your pretty little head, huh?”

your lip jutted out in a pout and you gave him those eyes. “i’m tired, dal. and it stinks in here, it’s giving me a headache. i wanna go.” you admitted quietly, feeling immediately guilty for wanting to leave.

“awe,” he tutted, rubbing your side softly. “c’mon, let’s get you home.”

you barely had anytime to protest before he grabbed your waist, forcing you to stand with him. “c’mon, up you go.”

tim and two-bit paused their conversation, looking at dallas and you with a confused look. “where ya goin’?” tim asked gruffly. “we’re leaving, taking her home. see y’all later.” dallas spoke shortly, taking one last swig of his beer before wrapping his arm around your waist, leading you out of the bar before the boys could say anything.

“i’m sorry for making us leave.” you spoke, turning to face him as he shut your bedroom door.

“you ain’t gotta apologize for nothin’, sweetheart. i ain’t mad.” he spoke softly, walking over to you and cupping your cheeks, kissing your forehead.

you smiled softly, closing your eyes for a moment. he rubbed his thumbs up and down your cheeks before leaning down to kiss your lips next. you relaxed into the kiss, resting your palms against his chest until you pulled away for breath. “go get changed, angel.” he spoke softly. you turned to go to your dresser, and he gave your ass a little swat to which you playfully glared back.

he chuckled and sat on your bed, taking his shoes off, perching them at the end of your bed. you made your way over to your dresser, rummaging in the drawers. you pulled out a t-shirt, that belonged to dallas and some comfy shorts, beginning to change into them.

dallas shrugged off his jacket, tossing it over your vanity chair. he then pulled off his shirt, and shoved off his jeans, climbing under your covers, digging a stuffed animal out from under his back. “ouch.”

you giggled and grabbed the stuffed animal from him, putting him at the end of the bed. he smiled and you made your way over, turning the lamp off and climbing in beside him, curling into his side and resting your head between his collarbone and jaw.

“there ya go,” he spoke softly, raking his hands through your hair. the other grabbed your thigh and pulled your leg up to drape across his lower abdomen. you complied and got comfortable yourself, resting one hand on his chest. “comfy?”

you hummed in response, tracing soft shapes into his chest as he did your thigh.

“nice shirt,” he commented with a chuckle. “when’d you take that one?”

you smiled, tilting your head up to kiss his lips softly. “i have my ways.”

he chuckled, the sound rumbling through you, he wrapped his hand to cup the nape of your neck, bringing you back down to kiss you again.

when he pulled away you tucked your head back down, as he began to run his fingers through your hair.

“if you’re tired, honey, go to sleep. i’ve gotcha.” he spoke softly against the top of your head, pressing a soft kiss to it.

you hummed softly, your eyes closing. “are you gonna be gone in the morning?”

“no, baby, i’ll be right here.” he whispered softly. “i promise…”

“goodnight, dally,” you whispered against his warm skin, pressing a kiss to his pulse point. “i love you.”

“i love you too, sweet girl.” he whispered, kissing your hairline and getting comfortable himself before you both fell asleep.

you always waited for the moment he’d not say it back. where he’d get tired of putting up this sweet act. but it never came. and it never would. because it wasn’t an act.

I also wanted to ask: what are some of your headcannons when it comes to daichi’s home life? Personally I like to think his siblings are all wayyy younger than him, which makes him more of a third parent than an older brother. He laments the fact that he has to be the responsible reliable figure even at home, but he’d never hold it against those little rascals <3 His parents also do their best, but it’s hard splitting your attention 5 ways, and with him being so dependable, they tend to neglect him a little

and I have a lot of headcanons for the Sawamura family! As a disclaimer, I tend to write whatever is needed for any given storyline, so dont hold me accountable in the future if I dont 100% hold to these lmao

I fully agree with his siblings being substantially younger than him. But personally I also love the idea of making Daichi an unplanned teenage pregnancy, making the parentification of him less a facet of "bad" parenting and more a result of kids who were just not ready for a baby. it also makes his very mature disposition a very nice contrast to the idea that he was a result of teenage mistakes. In this way, his younger siblings were his parents "chosen" kids, the kids they had once they were older and ready for it, and I think they were very good parents. unfortunately they were very good parents after Daichi had already grown up. in this you can push his age from his siblings anywhere from 8-15 years older than them. ((when I write, I try to maintain canon family dynamics unless it'll play a roll in the story, so I often give the age gap at 6 years for realism, because we know he has 4 siblings by 18 and you can only squeeze out so many 9 month pregnancies in so many years lmao.)

so daichi functions as a third parent by default because his parents never really saw him as part of the white-picket-fence planning process, those are the kids that came later. it doesnt mean they dont love him, but a lot of his foundational years, 0-8, were in the care of literally children. (Assuming a teenage pregnancy of like 17) And they just... Couldnt really handle raising a kid and it required him to create a lot of independence and self-soothing skills.

it also doesnt help that I think he takes pride in this. In the future, as an adult, he might have resentment towards his parents but in the timeline of him being in high school I imagine he sees his own role as a point of pride. he is being "mature" and "responsible" and "useful" and so clearly he's being a good person so he likes the roll he has in his family. he doesnt want them to treat him like a kid because kids are work and require effort and energy and cause problems and he is Better Than That. he's got a bit of a martyr complex in that way where he thinks its a good thing he acts and behaves this way.

i also believe 100% in any interpretation that his siblings absolutely, disgustingly, adore him. he might be the third parent but he's definitely their favourite parent. for all the resentment and anger that his parentification will cause in his adult years, for the inevitable divide growing between him and his parents, the emotional neglect, all of it, he is the person that his siblings will idolize as their greatest support. And even if he stops coming around as often and tries to rebuild a life that centres himself rather than other people, they will always think of him as their hero, and want to make him proud and seek his approval far more than they do their real parents.

theres like a million other little headcanons that contradict these ones - Im also especially fond (as anyone who reads my work knows) of the narrative that Daichi's absolutely a daddy's boy in his idolization of his father, and the father-son dynamic is one of my favourite to explore with him. the influence of family dynamics, bloodlines and obligations (real or imagined) is like... My #1 trope for him. i love giving him a larger than life bloodline and instead of everything I just described, making his martyr complex one born of a desperate desire to fill unreasonable large shoes left behind from whatever reason. in equal measure to the emotionally neglectful parents I love me a good "how am I supposed to live up to this?" story.

reid makes no movement to clean the blood off his hands until gideon is right in front of him. he just stands there and stares like hes dissociating until gideon comes up and, in my opinion, sort of startles him into acting.

and gideon putting an arm around reid and taking him away from the scene while morgan does the same to garcia. hhhh.

this is the most emotional we see reid get up to this point. he's yelling while he's trying to keep nathan arrive, enough to strain his voice. i dont think hes so much as raised his voice at all up to this point.

#10. What's an au you have for them?

Since them meeting at all is technically an AU i have 3 different ways that they do meet up. There's the one where Juniper ends up with the agency/adjacent to and ends up working with Reggie (have written a fic with this). The next one is Juniper surviving but basically going stealth and living as normal of a life as he can and ending up meeting Reggie through chance (most recent fic I've written). And then there's my personal favourite where Reginald "You're lucky my tracking skills are still up to snuff" Crane keeping himself busy after Phoenix was MIA and finding Juniper still alive (fic I want to write but haven't started mainly because it may end up multi chapter).

In terms of more AU canon bending taking them and putting them in a completely unrelated situation...I have a guilty pleasure Warrior Cats AU for IEYTD in general. Both JJ and Reggie have perfect warrior cats suffixes in their names already (Juniper and Crane) so they're called Junipersong (charcoal bengal) and Craneflight (tabby Norwegian forest cat). It's very silly but the amount of scenes I have in my mind for it...good lord...

Augh my friend Imp wrote an absolutely excellent fic about it (tragically in the realm of unfinished Google docs) and I'm shaking their hand about it so hard. Basically Juniper kissing Reggie but he like wasn't ready/fully expecting it and Juniper absolutely panicking because he thinks he's misread every interaction between them both since they got closer. The second one is much sweeter though,,

Where 2 years had changed so much and Sanji wanted something more than just fooling around but Zoro wanted to cut it off and focus on his training and dreams.

After reuniting Sabaody, Sanji contracts hanahaki disease. The only person who knew and who helped him cure the disease was Law. The situation had helped them get to know each other.

Sadly for Zoro he only realized who Sanji was to him during the incident in Zou. Even then it was already too late...

He's not petty. Definitely not. Petty is for small-minded insecure people. And Roronoa Zoro is not that kind of person. And even if he was that kind of person, he still wouldn't be petty for this kind of reason, because that would only mean he cares and it gets under his skin. Surely, it doesn't.

That was until... Until...

He suddenly wish that the grim reaper had taken him after fighting King that day.

In front of everyone, He saw how Sanji cough to try and get everyone's attention as he slowly reached out for Law's hand caressing them lovingly as he made them intertwined. Law's face flushed. His free hand covering his mouth lazely, his face leaning on his left side looking away as if hiding his face, evidently embarrassed. Sanji brought their intertwined hands together to his face for a kiss.

Everyone looked over curiously.

While Zoro tried everything in his power to remain stoic. But does he really need to? When the moment he saw everything he felt his heart freeze. He couldn't do or say anything. He felt his throat constricting. He felt so insignificant before Sanji. Like how he and everyone didn't exist and it was only him and Law in this world.

Sanji chuckled for a bit as he looked embarrassed Law softly. And then looked over at everyone with a big grin on his face.

He said,

"Traffy and I started dating."

Loud happy sounds of cheering and clapping roared on the banquet room. Everyone was so happy. Happy for them. Happy for him.

Sanji smiled so brightly. Zoro had never seen that smile before... he had never seen him looked so happy before.

Zoro's stomach churned. It felt like something was stuck on him throat and he wanted to throw up.

But he didn't. He didn't want to ruin this for the cook. Especially after the fuck up shit his family did to him in Whole Cake Island.

So instead he brought his sake cup on his mouth gulping everything in one go. Hoping the cup would hide his face.

He feigned happiness. He wanted to be happy for him too but he'd be lying because he can't. He can't when it was because of another person who was making him this happy.

Thankfully, no one else thought he was acting indifferently. He never was big on showing emotions anyway.

He only held his cup up as a sign of salute. And smile a little. Even if it felt force.

Because it was. He wanted to go. Away from here.
