Coming out of my self-imposed tumblr ban cuz this is the third post I see along the lines of "man we gotta jump ship" so here are some other ways to be social/do fandom/ect. I'm not gonna call them "tumblr alternatives" because I won't lie to you these are gonna be very different experiences from tumblr. But if you use tumblr as a way to meet new people/post your thoughts/do fandom/keep up with folks, then maybe one of these is worth looking into.

I don't use Cohost so idk if it's good or not, but all the people who use it tell me it's A Whole Lot Like Tumblr. Got pretty mixed reviews on this one, people seem to either love it or hate it, either way you could check it out it's free.

FANLISTING

Ye Old internet way to find new peeps in your fandom. It's a list of fans. I'm listing thefanlisting.org here because it's the biggest hub of fanlistings out there, but there are plenty that aren't listed so if you've got a topic dear to your heart it might be worth googling up "[fandom/ship/character] fanlisting" and see what turns up.

Pros:

It's literally just adding your name to a list of fans. Low spoon effort.

Cons:

If you want to talk to any of the people on the fanlisting you have to actually manually contact them via email or website or whatever they provided for contact. High social anxiety effort.

Anyways that's all I got chief. You probably already heard of half of those and the other half might have made you go "hey wtf that's not at all what I use tumblr for why would I need these" and the answer is it's not my problem. I discovered these when looking for ways for me personally to do social media so if you do social media differently sorry I can't help ya. But hey maybe you'll discover something new who knows.

My updated MCYT fanfic worldbuilding!

Both for anyone who’s interested in how I imagine the minecraft sphere so to speak works and for linking to my ao3 page, here is my MCYT worldbuilding! Long post ahead! I've been working on this for a long time and it's actively being worked on as well, but here's the current version!

Gods and sentient beings 

Basic information

Only multiple gods together or one of the elder gods can truly kill a god. Lesser beings (demigods or a single other god) could kill their vessel but not destroy their seat so to speak. When their vessel is killed their essence just kind of floats around the deep void until they find a next suitable vessel. This act of seemingly killing a god and taking part of their power is referred to as diminishing them. 

Respawns and souls

You can generally respawn infinitely, but it slowly eats away at your soul. And at some point you don’t respawn anymore. This is generally the same as dying of old age, but it’s not uncommon for very heavy pvp players to die younger because their soul is ruined by continuous respawns. 

When your soul hits a certain point of damage it passes on into Kristin’s domain. This is where souls recover and combine into new souls, which is how new players are made/born. 

Good gods 

There was at least one being called the Elder God. They created the other gods and the prime players. These days they have disappeared, and nobody seems to know where they are. 

Kristin is the goddess of Life and Death. But most mortals only see and refer to her as the Goddess of Death. She along with many of the other gods were created by the two elder gods. She resides over the domain of life and death. Watching over souls as they recover, get born, slowly tear apart and return to her eventually. 

Her main adversary is the god of Chaos. She’s not a fan of the Watchers either, because their grey morals grate against hers. Phil is an ex Watcher, but defected and joined Kristin. They fell in love. Most of Kristin's angels were originally mortals. On very rare occasions, when someone died in a certain way which really captures her attention she might decide to ask them to join her ranks. This is how Scott became an angel of hers. A few of her angels are kids of other angels. 

Evil gods

Evil gods are evil as currently defined by human/Kristin's definition.

 The god of the demons is the god of chaos. Has been diminished once or twice before. This is why he can only create demons with the power level of Watchers instead of demons at the level of demigods.

Maybe there's just more demons than angels which would give him the appearance of having more people under his control, thus appearing to be as powerful as Kristin even though they would not be. Makes sense as demons can also possess people and thus hide among mortals. Maybe angels need Kristin's power to detect possession which would account for why Phil can't detect Dream.

The god who ascended Techno. The original bloodgod, and when Techno "killed" him (killed his vessel with the help of Phil cuz who else, which diminished his power and spread some of it to Techno) He took on the title of the blood god, even though he technically is only a demigod, not a true god. He was ascended Techno to groom him into his next vessel. Unfortunately he didn’t account on Techno becoming friends with the Angel of Death. 

The god of Corruption. Ties into the sculk. With the elder gods being gone he weaved a web of corruption until he managed to sneak it in into the next update behind the back of the good gods.

Demigods

Ascension 

Any god can ascend a mortal to become a demigod. But it's a violent act and will usually completely kill off the world the former mortal was inhabiting. And it hurts. A lot. The combination of these factors is what made Eret's ascension so bad. Because usually the newly ascended demigod will wake up with their god. But Eret didn't. They woke up alone in a dead realm.

Cults can try to get a gods attention to get them to ascend one of their own to demigod status. Really, no good gods will respond to these rituals. They usually involve mass sacrifice. 

Gods can also just choose to ascend a living mortal, but again, this is not often done and when it is, usually only by evil gods. That's what happened to Techno.

Kristin works in a different way. When mortals die she sometimes (very rarely) offers them to become one of her angels. Her angels are demigods, but due to being in her service they are referred to as angels.

Demons are demigods aligned to the god of Chaos.

Banishment

Banishment of a demigod only works if the demigod is on a physical plane like a world, the void or the deep void. If a demigod is in the inbetween however… funky shit happens. The effects can vary. But total amnesia of the targeted demigod is one of them.

Watchers, voidwalkers, prime players

Watchers

Watchers are creatures that were created by the elder gods with the sole purpose of watching the worlds they created. This would mean they were maybe created before the gods, and just kind of stuck around after. They possess strong powers of code manipulation. 

A Watcher in humanoid form

Physiology: Junior Watchers, or Watchers in training have purple wings. Full Watchers have purely white wings. Elder Watchers have multiple. The highest ranked Watchers usually don’t bother to maintain a humanoid form, instead existing purely as beings made of eyes and wings. Watchers use their wings as a means of channelling their powers. They don’t reproduce in the traditional sense. They can choose to take players and turn them into Watchers by means of code manipulation, or to create new Watchers by means of combining powers and creating a new being. This is rare however, as this comes close to their idea of interference. 

Culture: Watchers strongly believe in the fact that they were created to Watch over worlds. They are a strongly insular race who refuse to interact with other (“lesser”) beings until they decree it absolutely necessary. There have been moments however, such as their war against the Voidwalkers. Well, they call it a war. The Voidwalkers would’ve referred to it as a massacre. One of the few ways they interact with mortals is to sometimes punish them if they decree it necessary. Their powers compared to players are vast, and due to how long they’ve been around they are generally left alone by demigods and gods alike. 

There are currently three known players who used to be Watchers before they defected. These are Philza, now the Angel of Death married to Kristin, and Grian and Pearl, two former players who were taken by the Watchers involuntarily and turned into one of them. 

Voidwalkers 

Voidwalkers were beings that lived in the End. They were also created by the Elder god, kind of as an experiment before they created the prime players. They were at war with the Watchers until they got massacred by them. Xisuma and EX are the only known (among players) survivors.

Physiology: Voidwalkers cannot breathe the normal oxygenated air of the overworld, instead being adapted to the thin air of the low void. 

Culture: Hoping something to End and Aether is generally a Voidwalker expression, though older immortals have been known to sometimes adopt it as well. The origin of it has been lost.  

Prime players

Prime players were the first players created by the Elder God. It’s unknown how many there are, since they tend to stay in hiding. What sets prime players apart from normal players is that respawns have no effect on their souls and that they don’t age. Meaning they are functionally immortal. There are ways to kill them, but no normal mortal could easily get them to stay down so to speak. 

Players

Players can become admins through training. Not everybody has the natural aptitudes to become an admin. Everyone can access the code of the world if they learn how to, but utilising it wrong can be the end of someone. Admins have the power to create worlds. Everyone above the power level of a normal player can. The difference is that some beings (Watchers) make the choice to not do this. Gods and some demigods reside in their personal worlds with practically impenetrable firewalls. The more powerful a being the more control they have over creating worlds and the less likely they are to make mistakes. 

Worlds

At it’s core worlds, players and everything else are code. Code is the foundation of everything. 

Worlds are generally connected to hubworlds. Travelling to other worlds usually happens through these. Hubworlds can vary from simple planes with rows and rows of portals to massive cities where people live, interspersed with portals. It’s not uncommon for kids to get dumped on hubworlds to fend for themselves. They often end up banding together, since hubworlds are pretty often fairly hostile places to live in due to the lack of admin oversight. Kids like this are generally called children of the hub. 

Hubworlds take a lot of power to create and to keep safe. They are usually created by a whole group of admins. 

Besides travelling through official portals there are ways to jump to other worlds. This is why you can protect your worlds with whitelists. They take the form of physical barriers in the code surrounding worlds. Think of it like a satellite defence system around a planet, combined with a literal wall of fire in some cases. 

Worldhoppers are players who make a habit of jumping from world to world without portals. Often these are players who grew up in the hub and learned admin magic through other people. They basically break into other worlds and thus aren’t always seen as the best people. Most worldhoppers are friendly though. Hubkids often end up worldhopping, at least during their teenage years until they find a place to settle down or until a mistake tears their soul apart. 

Worldhoppers have general agreements between them. Not snitching on each other is the main one. 

Sometimes worlds connect themselves to each other through rifts. Nobody knows how these occur, and they can’t really be controlled. Maybe gods could control them, but nobody below them. 

There is something called being worldlocked. Its generally something the Watchers do to worlds as a punishment. It involves messing with the code of the world and all the people on it. Leaving them unable to leave the world and unable to contact anyone outside of it. A lot of locked worlds eventually devolve into chaos due to the isolation, with people turning on each other. Dream worldlocked the DreamSMP. 

Improper coding of a world can lead to the world getting corrupted. What happens to corrupted worlds varies, but generally they completely destroy themselves and everyone on it. EVO got corrupted, less due to Grian making mistakes but more due to being an experimental world surrounded by experimental worlds that were corrupted. The Watchers helped the process along as a punishment for Grian. 

Experimental worlds are harder to create since you are messing more with the coding of the worlds. Known safe modifications are more popular though. 

Hardcore worlds are worlds that lock you out when you die. You simply can’t enter them anymore, only view them through your communicator. Dying in them is also way harder on your soul, so players are weary of playing in them too much. 

On "space"

Space is kind of the Void. You have the void in which world reside. But if you keep flying up you will not hit the true void. Your would simply slow down. The stars are other realms visible in the void.

The void and the deep void

The Voidwalkers lived in the void before they were all killed by the Watchers. 

The void is split between two almost subrealms? You have the void layer which contains normal, player made/controlled worlds and the layer that contains the end. Called the high void and the low void? Names are a work in progress. The membrane between the high void and the low void is fairly thin, which is why end portals are an easy way to access it. 

The Watchers reside in the deep void. Which is almost inaccessible to normal players. To get to it you need to travel through the inbetween. 

The inbetween

The inbetween is the space between the void and the deep void. It is incredibly hard to access, and even harder to competently navigate. Normal mortals would simply tear their soul apart trying if they recklessly attempted to do so. Gods have limited influence in this realm.

On exorcising players

Sometimes players can get overtaken by things. Vexes are the most common, though there are other things. Glitched “networks” like mycelium or more recently, the sculk that was added by the god of chaos in an update. 

Zooming in more on the Vex. The Vex aren't fully sentient like players or more-than-players are. But they aren’t quite mobs either. They exist in a space between categories, but have a strong desire to achieve… more. The way they try to achieve this is by trying to possess vulnerable players. They don’t often succeed, but when they do they will try to take over servers and hubworlds. They kind of function like a computer virus. Overtaking a player and ‘overlapping’ their code with their own Vex code manipulation. 

Sculk and Mycelium work a little differently. They are more so connected through a hivemind. A sculk block is the same as a warden is the same as a shrieker is the- you get the point. The sculk is not an individual block. And it has one goal. To spread. To overtake more of a world. To overtake more players. Similar to Vex it will latch on to a player and ‘overlap’ their code with its own. 

Exorcising players from any type of possession is possible, but a nasty process. First of all it requires someone with at powers at least akin to a voidwalker or a prime player. Then they basically have to tear the Vex, sculk or mycelium from the player line by line. Piece by piece. And it hurts. Especially when the player regains enough awareness to recognise that they are being hurt by someone they know, but not why or how. Removing sculk can leave scars akin to burn scars.

What is Mawls and Monsters?

To put it simply it's a DND campaign between me and a few friends! It's inspired by/takes place in the world created by the Dungeons and Daddies podcast. (We are not affiliated with the podcast in any way.)

Where in the Dndads timeline does it take place?

It takes place in between season 1 and 2, shortly after Code Purple and before the start of Season 2. It all starts in a Walmart on Black Friday...

Who are the characters/players?

We have 3 players (including myself) and a dungeon master (Mawl Master).

Peepaw - played by me, @alien-bluez ! He's a grizzled old man walmart worker and barbarian. He jumps through a portal into this cursed mall to save his three grandkids.

Jamie - played by @writertyozzie123 . He's an agent in D.A.D.D.I.E.S., a rogue, and the worst dad you know. He goes to Walmart to investigate a strange toy called the "Squiggle" and now has to find his lost daughter in the monster mall.

Chap - played by @itsnianom . He's an intern at a fashion company, a doormat, and our cleric. He goes to Walmart to buy an exercise bike when a portal opens up. He jumps in just because, but also to find his lost daughter. He's also British.

@pittermogged is our Dungeon Master who we also call our Mawl Master. Her mallsona is a security guard, but she's not very good at keeping anyone safe. 🤨

Currently no! We record all our sessions but don't have them uploaded anywhere besides a private gdrive. We post clips sometimes on insta. Might post clips here, or maybe the powerpoint will update to keep up but idk! (Go follow the others though, that's probs the best way to keep up)

my oh my, long time no see!

hey folks, it's wednesday again, wouldn't you know it ;P i've been hosting family and friends the past couple weeks (hence the relative peace and quiet on my end), but i'm revving up those writing engines and getting back to it, believe you me!

however, the sleepy bitch disease™️ is winning today, so i'll keep the update short: i'm mostly working on hackett-based Things for the time being, so that's proooOOOOBABLY what you'll be seeing next from me. i'm tossing a sneak-peek of some like wringing blood under the cut, but like i said before, my plan for that is i want to have at LEAST two chapters done before i start posting again, so...it might just be a minute.

anyhow, as always, hope you're all doing well and finding reasons to smile, no matter how small 🫶 personally i'm still riding the high of getting to hang out with some of my besties irl instead of over these ding-dang screens of ours, so when you picture me at least, please imagine i'm floating on a cloud, cuz that's how it feels ;Pc

Instead of being open to the air like one might’ve expected, a pane of glass shut the booth off from the rest of the clearing. And he wasn’t terribly surprised to see Jack sitting on the other side of that glass.

Chris rapped on the pane with his knuckles, hoping to get him to look his way. Again, it wasn’t any shock when Jack kept on keeping on, his head tipped down as he scribbled away in one of his leather-bound journals, but it was annoying as all get-out. This was his hallucination, wasn’t it? His weird mental breakdown? The least Jack could do was respect that!

Behind the glass, the booth seemed to go back a bit too far to make sense. It could’ve been a trick of the light, or, more likely, another misfiring of his overtired mind, but the depth of the place seemed…off.

With a start, he noticed a flicker of movement from somewhere in the back. Chris frowned and cupped his hands to either side of his face as he leaned against the glass, peering inside to see what he could see, and at first there was nothing. Just Jack, sitting. Just his desk, covered in papers. Just the wolfdogs, curled up at his feet. Just—

Then, all at once, he saw the skulls.

They’d been mounted on the wall behind Jack’s desk, each set on a wooden plaque no different from the hunting trophies Pa hung in the stairway where they kept Aunt Susannah’s old piano, except…except no. That was wrong.

They were wrong.

He wanted to say they were human skulls, but the longer he looked at them, the more he realized that was simply because, well…he couldn’t call them anything else. Thing was, human skulls weren’t that big, and their jaws weren’t hinged that way. Their teeth didn’t jut out at angles like those, their eye sockets weren’t that shallow, and…and…

As if triggered by that thought, every skull on the back wall opened its eyes.

Something in Chris’s head snapped to the side, stinging like the crack of a rubber band pulled past its breaking point. This had to be a dream, whatever else it was; he couldn’t explain the reading or the burn of poison ivy at his ankles, but this had to be a dream, it had to be, because skulls didn’t have eyelids to open!

Skulls didn’t have eyes!

Yet there they were, bulbous and bulging out over cheekbones, smoky white globs of jelly threatening to burst against jagged ridges of bone. They were dead eyes, corpse eyes, unseeing and blind, and two by two they rolled towards him anyway, flaring with recognition and seething, murderous hatred.

“Jaaack…” he said slowly, the sound of his own voice discordant in his ears as it bounced off the glass. “Hey, Jack?” When he still wouldn’t look up at him, Chris tried tapping on the pane again.

And the skulls began to scream.

He didn’t hear it, told himself that logic worked fine in a dream, but he saw their jaws drop wide and he felt the glass vibrate against his hands, and every inch of his intestines turned to water as the ancient spot where his brain met his spinal cord recognized a threat it’d never fully forgotten.

Chris staggered back with a sharp intake of breath, and finally—finally!—Jack acknowledged him.

“No refunds,” he droned, sliding a ticket through a narrow slot in the glass he'd somehow missed before, the gesture strangely reminiscent of a movie theater cashier.

His hand moved without his brain’s permission, taking the slip he’d been given even as his mind reeled against the impossible silence of the screaming below Jack’s nasally voice. When he looked down, he saw it wasn’t a ticket at all, the thing he was holding, but a greasy old photograph from one of Ma’s albums: the one the kids had found, the one of all of them standing outside the lodge.

The ice has always been cold within the dark cacao kingdom, it has been known for that, but as the licorice sea dies down on its chaos, affogato cookie knew his sweeten uprise Would not last long, he excepted to join the other pesents and that cursed caramel cookie, but instead?..., he finds that time has completely stopped, he didn't realize it at first, how could he?, he was locked away on dark cacao's old throne with the beast of apathy to only serve him as company, and she makes him know, what exactly he has costed in order to gain the throne...., but hey he got his wish right?, and so did everyone else, at least the licorice sea has stopped...., now the question remains HOW did it stop????.....

They say prayer uplifts those who is in unfortunate situations, for pure vanilla that's been a constant thing for the 5 of them and their beast counterparts, when dark cacao had fallen, pure vanilla prayed for his peace, when hollyberry turned to bloodshed, he prayed for her safety within her hunting, when golden cheese greed turned her into a deity he prayed for her and those that befallen her into her greed, but when white lily cookie had fallen, when he said his prayer to her, he laughed, a laughter that only shadow milk knows cause it came out of his own throat years ago, his laughter against madness has been heard all across the vanilla kingdom as he realizes something..., their safe and at peace because of him, if he could save them, then who's to say he can save everyone else??....

Okay so here's the rundown of it Clockwork, Pandora , Frostbite, and Dora where the old council of Pariah Dark along with the Observance somewhat all ran the Infinite Realm together but once Danny became the new Ghost King he had to make his own court and could not be for the same people as last time for some random ghost rule reason. So who else is better in his own two sisters and his friends and let's just say the Giw and Jack and Maddie do some terrible things like kidnap Danny dissecting while Ellie, Valerie, Sam, Tucker, save him. After the entire sh!t show infinite realms now have an entirely good reason to call for war on the human realm.

When Constantine and finds out he's like what the hell's happening he's like oh snap we got to go to the Infinite Realms to try a peace treaty since Constantine doesn't pay attention as much as he shouldn't so him does not know about the new king.

Open the entire Justice League shows up to try talking to the council that replaced the king the interaction goes somewhat like this.

Constantine: we are here to talk to Pariah dark about a peace offering to stop the incoming war Master of Time .

Clockwork who's cryptic bastard mode: we are no longer the council anymore we were disbanded with the new Kings crowning.

I was imagining some older kids too like 15-17 year olds who are a bit less impressionable that the little ones but they still absolutely love being with Bunny and Bucky.

I love the idea that any time they mention a special interest or hobby they find all the kit they need to pursue it in their room the next day.

I think the only real rule there is in the house is to look after each other. You and Bucky want to make your kids happy and keep them safe, anything else can be sorted out with cash (or secret violence lol).

I imagine the day starts with a good breakfast and a reminder of all the stuff that has to be done that day.

I feel Bucky sits reading a paper and sipping on a coffee, greeting his various kids, asking them about their homework, checking to make sure there aren't any issues. Baby bunny will often sit with him, sipping on a glass of water like it's vodka, reading the comic section that he put aside for her (screaming) as she tucks into her cereal.

Bunny is in full chaos mode, fussing over everyone, doing hair and making sure teeth are brushed. One of the teenage girls comes downstairs in an emotional panic because the boy she's seeing hasn't texted her all morning.

Both you and Bucky frown because boys but you also take her to one side and craft the perfect message and explain how to make him suffer all day for his foolishness.

Both you and Bucky keep his name stored away in your head for later, just in case.

Bucky is semi-retired at this point so when all the kids are at school the days are spent with you, which is just divine. I could say more but you should know them well enough by now to know what happens when they are alone 😉

Evenings are filled with nice little routines that are only visible if you really look for them. But for kids who need structure it means the world.

Dinner is eaten together. You try and cook in the early days and it's kind of a disaster so Bucky suggests you hire a cook who can cater for the needs of everyone without any fuss. It feels a little like failure but when Little Rabbit scoffs down a broccoli based dish without complaint, you decide it's a good idea.

Unless the kids have an after school club you will all cuddle up and watch TV or movies together. Because Thumper is a scaredy cat you end up watching a lot of competition shows because they are low risk and suitable for everyone.

The older kids might hang out in their room, but they kinda enjoy the chaos of sitting with you guys and the little ones watching crap on tv.

You get the update on the boy from school (he came crawling back immediately), Bucky discusses sports with the eldest and the little ones are discussing which Disney princess would be the best at beating up Superman.

You feel very happy in these moments

Little Rabbit insists on two bedtime stories, one from each of you. Thumper needs you to tell him happy things before bed, with 10 kisses and Bucky tells him that no one will ever get to him because he's the toughest guy on the planet. He also plugs in a night light so he doesn't get scared.

You give Baby Bunny a kiss and a cuddle goodnight and wait by the door as she and Bucky discuss her plans for world domination until she falls asleep mid-sentence.

The teenagers insist they don't need to be tucked in, but they pretend that they are accepting kisses and cuddles from you for your benefit. You don't care, as long as they go to bed knowing they are loved.

I kinda... had a dream about a crossover AU between Cookie Run and Coraline. Because of that, I wanna create this Coraline AU.

Summary:

A 10 year-old girl named Vanilla Twirl Cookie(Haven Paschall) just moved to her new house in summer and thought that her house will be so boring. At midnight, Vanilla Twirl Cookie found a door leading to a world that's better. Soon, Her family and neighbors started to act very creepy, even The Other Father. Vanilla Twirl Cookie must stop the Other Father and save her real father and his friend.

torchwood fanfic resources

so i'm a chronic livejournal archaeologist, and fixating on 2000s media is particularly fun for me because it means i get to go digging on lj / dw / old fanfic forums. below you'll find some of the excavations from my torchwood fixation (give it up for month 6!) it's pretty much got every comm i've ever stumbled upon and found useful, or thought others would find useful. it's largely fanfic-oriented, though there's some more generalized comms, too. i hope you guys enjoy!

i was originally going to include a link to my reclist on this post as well, but it's still a wip, so i'll just post that separately in the future.

general disclaimer: most of the content here is from 2006-2013 or so. period-typical attitudes may pop up in places. i'm not sure if most modern tw fans have witnessed the original fandom at all, but i felt a need to say this anyway, because i've seen some icky stuff. i've warned for anything notable. gwen bashing in particular may unfortunately pop up in some of these comms, especially in the comments, so tread carefully.

if you're new to probing through old lj comms, remember to always have the wayback machine on hand, because you're going to run into a lot of purged accounts and seemingly lost fics, but sometimes you get lucky and something's been archived :)

as of the date i'm posting this, all of these comms are still accessible, but if you're from the future and some have been deleted, again, go ahead and give the wayback machine a try. additionally, livejournal has a system that includes 'cross-posting' in which, if authors choose to (and the majority of them do, to get their fics more visibility), fics get posted to multiple comms at once. so chances are, even if one comm gets deleted, the contents will survive through other comms. kind of like how reblogs continue to exist even when the original blog is deleted.

finally, ctrl + f is your best friend if you have a specific ship/character/trope you're invested in, especially in comms with less than ideal tagging systems. if a comm does have a substantial tagging system, you can find all of its tags by adding '/tags' the end of the urls i've provided.

✎ torch-wood: this is essentially a torchwood subreddit. it started before the show even aired, and one of the highlights of it is episode reaction posts (easily accessible on the right side of the lj) that document how everyone immediately reacted to the eps, which is pretty damn cool, fandom-history wise. only thing i should mention is there's quite a lot of gwen and owen bashing in the comments of some of those reaction posts, so just be wary of that if you love those two like i do, 'cuz it's a bit of a bummer.

✎ torchwood-three: this comm is an extremely cool then-daily newsletter (that still updates sometimes?!) that compiled as much fan-content as it could find into cleanly organized lists. the posts made immediately after new episodes aired contain reactions, discussions, meta, theories, new fic, fanmixes, just about everything. very very cool to go back and see the way the fandom was thinking as the show was airing and as they were getting to know the characters. here's a direct link to all posts made in late 2006, during the airing of s1.

✎ torchwood-fic: exactly what it says on the tin. desktop layout is easy to navigate, tags are all there!

✎ torchwood-fic's profile page also features a list of affiliated accounts that's pretty handy. it's worth taking a peek at, in case i've excluded anything in this post that you might be interested in.

✎ twgenrefinders: handy dandy comm where people would ask for fics of a certain variety & be treated with reclists, or hyper-specific fics... pretty cool stuff, ive got several threads bookmarked to sort through the links later. ofc, please note that some of the things people asked for might be stinky. particularly i've seen a lot of ppl requesting gwen bashing fics :/

✎ twstoryfinder: cousin to the above comm; here, people would ask for a very specific fic they'd lost. it's kind of fun to find fics through because you get someone describing memorable scenes + hyping it up, so it's different than just a standard summary. this one still gets posted on, too, which is crazyyy.

✎ tw-unpaired: for gen fics! no romance allowed! there's some good character studies + friendship fics in there. stuff's tagged by character + authors are even tagged, in case you find one whose writing you particularly enjoy. this is v useful for when someone's main journal has been deleted.

✎ torchwood-decaf: a comm where janto is BANNED. nah i'm kidding, it's not anti-janto, it was just made because janto is so huge that it overshadows everything else. pretty smart, tbh; wading through the sheer mass of janto content can be tiresome.

✎ jack-in-cuffs: for dark tw fic, or uber smutty tw fic. as a fan of dark!fic, there's some goodies in here, but of course it's not everyone's cup of tea. most of the writers included warnings, but if you go a little further back, some people weren't as courteous; navigate with caution.

✎ jack-owen: for fic featuring our captain and his (second favorite) doctor. i know this pairing's kinda divisive nowadays, but i enjoy it a lot. the comm's got a dismal tagging system and, ngl, i don't truly like any of the fics there (i'm very intrigued by jack and owen's relationship but i've never found fic that really does them justice, and i still haven't figured out how to write them myself) - but i'll include it anyway.

✎ odetojoi: for fic featuring owen in the middle of a janto sandwich, for those of us who are allergic to women (/sarcasm). there's an oddly impressive supply of fics of the three of them, and a good chunk of them can be found in this comm. (everytime i see this comm i think of a certain abbreviation found in p/rnogr/phy... but i digress)

✎ halfwee-and-tea: for ianto x owen fic. haven't gone through this one much, truthfully. i hate when comms have no tagging systems agh.

✎ owenharper-fans: a comm for the saddest undeadest bisexualest doctor around. also features a few burn appreciation posts, which is nice to see pre-pac rim era. mostly just features a shit ton of owen fic, particularly owen x ianto fic. mostly sufficiently tagged. if you need me once i post this, btw, i will be balls deep in this comm.

✎ the pro-owen alliance: another owen-focused comm - i think this one was made directly in response to owen bashing. haven't combed through this one much but it's got a fair amount of fics.

✎ house-of-cooper: a gwen comm! made in response to gwen bashing. haven't gone through it, but i'm glad it exists.

✎ torchwoodcoffee: ianto comm! this one's hugeee. the majority of it's janto, but the pairings aren't tagged, which is really frustrating. about 6k fics on there, though! just untagged. fff.

✎ tw-femficfest: a comm for fic about any and all of the torchwood ladies. tagging's cleanly done & there's some handy fic round ups, too.

✎ tw-femslash: yuri!!! wahoo!!! a comm for f/f tw ships. there's quite a lot of fic on here, but unfortunately there's no tagging whatsoever. sigh.

✎ tw-classic: a comm for 'all things series one and two of torchwood'. was made after s3 and was popular around s4 out of nostalgia for the golden age <3 good amount of fic, discussions, etc.

✎ torchwood-house: this comm is, like, letterboxd, but for torchwood fanfic. basically a group of individuals who thought of themselves as having Good Taste would read Good Fic and then go in this comm and write a post about why they recommend it. it's well-made, easy to scroll through, and sells the fics v well, and it kinda gets you more excited to read them when you get to see someone hype them up with Fancy Words. it's like a little torchwood yaoi bookclub. we're eating quiche

✎ tw100: a drabble challenge; this thing's full of 100 word drabbles. ngl i hate drabbles but i'm throwing it in here anyway

✎ touchyerwood: i love kink memes... i love kink memes less when my favorite character/pairing is unpopular. the pac rim kink meme's been a blessing bc i'm a basic ass newmann - the torchwood kink meme? not so much. it's got a fair amount of shit, though, so maybe someone else will appreciate it. this one isn't the original, that one's been wiped off the internet, to my chagrin. keep in mind before digging that people in kink memes are horny & gross. that's your warning.

✎ reel-torchwood: for any and all movie aus... ok i have a bone to pick with this comm. i'm a big movie nerd, i love film, i've seen dozens of films i've thought would make good aus - i combed through this and there is not a SINGLE fic in there that piqued my interest. NOTHING. needless to say my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. i'm sure my experiences aren't universal though.

✎ torchwoodslash: ah, remember when we called it slash? gee whiz. i'm not big on this comm, it's not very user friendly + there's like no tags whatsoever so it's extremely hard to navigate. enter at your own risk & good luck, lol.

✎ rounds-of-kink: this isn't a torchwood-exclusive comm, but it's got a sizeable torchwood tag, which can be found here. pretty organized tagging system; makes me happy.

✎ tw-declassified: this comm was mainly used for running a 'torchwood bingo', which, i've been in other fandoms that do episode bingos and it's usually cute... this one confused me a little so i didn't bother peeking around too much, but still a cool little bit of fandom history.

✎ writerinadrawer: this was an annual torchwood writer's challenge that ran for four years... it's kinda hard to navigate but it does have some fic in it so i'm putting it here.

✎ dmarley-recs: a recs journal someone ran for compiling torchwood fic; it's got a l o t of recs on there, largely jack/ianto.

✎ kink_bingo: this is a dreamwidth comm, and it's not torchwood-exclusive, so i've linked straight to the torchwood tag. this comm has a livejournal equivalent, but for some reason the tw tag is pretty barren on that one? not sure why. but on dw it's got a fair amount. the tagging system is rough, it tags fandom and kink but not pairing, which is irritating, and every post is hidden under a cut AND makes you go through a discretion barrier every single time (but probably only if you don't have an account? i'm not logged in) which makes navigation a pain. but i dunno, more smut, if you want it.

✎ whofic.com: this site is for doctor who fic, but it's got a very substantial amount of torchwood fic. i do not, however, like the formatting at all. i'm being overly nice; i HATE the formatting. it's very reminiscent of fanfic dot net but, like, worse. it reminds me of adultfanfiction dot org which was a NIGHTMARE to use. but! there is torchwood fic there so it's going in here.

alex update: he's chilling with miles and some friends, havign a drink and watching some bands.

after the set, we all got a little bi too drunk, met up with James Ford (producer, and from simian mobile disco), james + simon (klaxons), lily allen, lovefoxx, a kook and some others (there was about 20 of us) and we wanted to go out at night to Lost Vague-ness (the most random field at glastonbury) but they didnt want to be noticed and harrassed, so we hired these random costumes. alex was a dinosaur, james was a swan, there was a chicken, a moose, me and lily were mushrooms...... was truley hilarious.

[its not really "news" but we just had a fight. a proper standing in the rain, shouting ourselves hoarse, having to be separated argument. thats the only problem with me and al, were too similar. SO stubborn, and a tendency to take things too personally and get a bit irrational. the basics, i was trying to be a good friend and tell him summat, he wasnt listening, we both said things we prolly shouldn't have, and then were taken away to calm down. it'll all be fine by the morning, thats just how we roll. but for tonight, im not gonna pretend were okay.]

She-Clops has been the first among all of them, I think they've been there since 2016. It has had two rewrites and so many characters came and went but I think I'm satisfied with the Blueyesque story style it has now

Ghost Pile and When The Moon Is Bright both came around 2017 when Deltarune and Cuphead are huge hits. These are probably gonna be dormant but like, I like to include em but also here's a random pic cuz I can't find any drawings of either

The Light Plague started at 2018 and it has had many beautiful and painful rewrites. TLP is also the oc set with the densest story since it's a compilation of angsty characters that has each their own thing going on

Gave him a whole team with their own original traits to go along with them. I haven't posted anything about this but the Soldier in Michel's team is a druid that wanna be human

Leave You're Not Safe Here, heavily inspired by Don't Hug Me, is the second newest out of all the sets, I think it's one year old or about to be a year old. Honestly I LOVE the concept of LYNSH cuz the main characters are all these weirdcore or abstract people but it's like a Regular Show thing so there's also humans in it. Tho the humans are rainbow coloured like Psychonauts characters (fun fact, TLP characters used to be coloured the same way, Cobalt is the only one that isn't changed) Lemme tell you smthn about LYNSH. It's the humans that act like weirdos and they insist that the abstract characters don't belong anywhere. Absolutely not a metaphor for anything

And now it leads us to Cursed To Charm. First oc set that's collaborated with someone else on the writing, shoutout to my brother from the same mushroom root @beefy-the-stronk CtC is barely three months old and yet we already came up with three seasons worth of a timeline, it's beautiful shit

You know what? I haven't given a numbered update so here it is (cw graphic medical descriptions):

LONG POST AHEAD

I joined a second medical mission this February. Same group of people as from September, but I was a lot more active and confident with my work this time than I had been previously. But I ended up getting sick this time around.

That said, I met even more new people while reuniting with old ones, saw and scrubbed in a lot of complicated cases (imagine multiple giant uteruses we/they had to take out, sometimes heavier than your average newborn, or enlarged scrotum due to fluid retention that flowed like a fountain once the incision was made...or how about a cesarean delivery of twins that only lasted for 25 min cuz the cutting time only took two?).

I also met a legendary general surgeon who had not been able to join us on the previous trip and frankly, I think he's incredibly cool. He is so on fire for God, and he is so encouraging as a person. His skill in the operating room was incredible to watch, with many turning to him when things got tough. He even knew how to perform hysterectomies which is generally reserved for OBGyns.

Watching these group of doctors, surgeons, nurses work honestly made me want to be more like them. Their love for Christ, and for the people, and their willingness to sacrifice time and energy without any demand for reward...and seeing how at least one of them chose to be a surgeon because they believed it was the best route to serve in all ways...it's all so invigorating and inspiring, more so than when I was in medical school.

And this feeling is only fueled by the fact that I was able to do multiple solo minor procedures (removing things like sebaceous cysts and lipomas) many of which were no longer supervised, and I was actually excited to do them. My practical nurse friend and I might have had a bit too much fun performing them just to lighten the mood, but the satisfaction of removing errant growths under the skin and seeing the thankful smiles of the patients left a bright and fluttery feeling in me. Not to mention that legendary doctor saw me and was even impressed when I successfully extracted a 7 x 10cm lipoma from someone's arm without too much trouble mostly because I didn't want to make the patient wait for a more experienced surgeon who was occupied in the other room and I figured I could do it (I hope and pray this patient has fully recovered).

He introduced me as a future surgeon to the government workers when they threw a lunch for us despite me never actually confirming my intention to pursue the specialty. 😂

That said, the thought has been on my mind since. I don't know if this is simply because of a sort of honeymoon feeling or if this is what God intends and I ask for prayers and guidance because surgery was frankly the last thing I wanted to be in medical school. But realizing I had fun doing surgeries (as long as people weren't yelling at me)...it's started to make me think...

Moving on, my nephew has now been born but because I was out and I had been sick, I wasn't able to visit. This week I will finally get to see him, due to some unfortunate circumstances that warrant the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child" (or in this case, take care of the mother and son). My sister-in-law married into a family of healthcare workers so this is what she gets 😂 But as a result, I had to cancel my attendance with another medical mission this weekend despite confirming months ago.

Work-wise, things haven't been that great. There is one possible post I might have the opportunity to fill, but I've been discouraged lately. We'll see what happens tomorrow. My goal for these next two months is to find my path and follow it. I know I need to do a residency by the end of this year, I know I cannot keep delaying that but I also would prefer having some work experience behind me. These medical missions have been incredibly helpful in that regard, but even so, I need a steady job now.

I'm also taking a servant leadership course as an adjunct, that will last for 13 weeks.

Pray for me, everyone, that God would lead me down that path and that I would embrace it and run it, now that my "break" is over.

Breakups in friendship are so real and we don't talk about them enough.

If that person made you feel that way? Then refused to communicate? For six months? Wouldn't give them another chance. I broke a 3-year old friendship because of a similar thing and it hurts like hell but it's better than having them keep hurting you or holding you down.

And it's not like you hate them or you're saying they're the worst person in the world or denying every other good thing about them or the good times you had and how they added something beautiful to your life. There will always come a point where some core values are on the line (sadly in the form of a punch to the guts) and they might just not align at all.

I find thinking about it as if it happened to a friend of mine helpful sometimes. If I'd let that friend go back, then I'd let myself too.

I've been thinking lately to change the direction of this askblog..

I really want to focus more on lore, writing, making comics etc rather than answering asks.

I don't really like doing this, not anynore, and I feel pretty pressured about it... I never liked answering stuff, especially when all the asks are pretty much the same, most of them aren't even worth my time, and I'm getting bored of replying for the 50th time to "cool horns".

I don't enjoy making stupid doodles because I know my art is better than this, and feeling pressure of coming up with several of these a day when I want to be consistent, this is what made me have so many burn outs during summer.

Plus, I've been changing a lot of Ranler's lore. As you may know, I left the onceler fandom. And to be honest, I never left like Ran ever was a -ler... When I made him, I got several comments on how "people won't like him cuz he doesn't look like a onceler enough". And I don't care, because I never really saw him as one anyway, and I've been trying to force myself too much to include "lorax" parts in his backstory, trying to stretch everything so it fits, but it was never enough, people weren't satisfied and I also never was satisfied, I've always wanted to get rid of the "onceler mold", because I feel so restricted by trying to fit my characters in it, and it just doesnt fit with who ranler is.

I'm current spending a lot of time on rewriting his whole backstory, to finally make it feel right. Getting rid of the "lorax" elements is so freeing, I can't explain how much I'm enjoying writing his character now that I have 0 restrictions anymore.

So yea, I'll be closing asks for a moment. I'll maybe answer to the most interesting ones I still have in my inbox, don't be upset if I don't reply to all of them, I just want to do what feels right and what I actually like. When I'm done rewriting his lore, I may start making more serious posts on this blog, lore related, roleplays, fanfiction maybe, comics, etc... Asks will still be open then, but I will only reply to things that seems important, and the blog won't be an ask-only-blog but more like a general oc blog. Same thing for @ask-swordtail , if I'm not too overwhelmed, but at least he isn't as popular as Ranler's blog so the asks actually make sense, and I don't need to rewrite anything because he never was in the onceler fandom in the first place. I don't really know what I'll do with the other AU blogs, I'll see in the future.

Anyway thank you for listening to whatever this is, lol, I hope you understand<3 when I'm done I'll probably post the new toyhouse links and make another announcement, as well as cleaning up the old posts... I think this is very cute and im glad i finally forced myself to write a summary cuz it made me figure everything out.. at least i have a ballpark idea of a plot instead of entertaining all these different possibilities.. originally i didnt want roadkill to be popular enough to tour but.. small bands go on small tours all the time.. it would make the story WAYYY more fun. Seraph is literally trapped with them. And also .. going on tour is pretty good cover for murders. Way better than having him kill in his small town and somehow not get caught.. which doesnt make sense. Hes not that smart lol, but i guess being a dog is good cover already. I also want them to tour because i want the band to be a central part of the story.. if it wasn’t (like some other ideas ive had) it wouldnt even make sense to include.. it would be clunky.. so yes tour it is..!

I feel like im finally getting somewhere.. also yes ulysses is supposed to be there but im out of room in the carrd :( ill figure it out.. anyways i think this is such a good restarting point.. the only problem is its kind of a lie but i didnt know how to explain it short and sweet. Scotch is the only one who knows atlas’s identity at first, then seraph. Eloise doesnt know i think because she would probably want to call the cops. Or at the very least this news would split the group up (atlas n scotch dont want that for different reasons*) and she would never speak to atlas again cause of the whole murder thing. She would also convince seraph to get out of there asap, and atlas knows they would listen no matter how much they like him**. So, eloise knowing is not an option .. she’s very sweet but yea definitely would not be ok with any of this ..

Ulysses doesnt know cause he doesn’t WANT to know. He knows something sketchy is going on between atlas n scotch but, knowing scotch pretty well, he doesnt wanna get involved. Scotch secrets are very annoying to keep. He doesnt want to bother. Also hes kinda freaked out about it. Idk, maybe it will stay this way but i still have to work on ulysses so that may change…

Now ive got to find a way to work tex in. I dont think ive EVER mentioned tex on here before even though ive had them for yearssss, but they serve as like a mentor to atlas. Maybe 50 year old butch. I thought about making them a werewolf too but thats just dumb.. they probably knew a werewolf at one point though. Maybe had to kill one but they probably wouldnt let atlas know that. tex is kind of cruel towards seraph, which is unfortunate because theyre the only one experienced with werewolves. Would lead to a fun interaction in a tense situation though ^__^

* - atlas doesn’t want the band to split up firstly cause he knows it’ll suck for scotch, but also cause again.. touring is such good cover. Hes just hesitant to become big cause he doesnt know if it’ll make killing easier or harder. SCOTCH doesnt want to split up cause he loves eloise + same atlas reason + but also cause he NEEDS to get big for all the non-atlas reasons. Coming from a huge family, he didnt get much attention. Basically wants to show his family that he’s worthwhile (and wealthy.. if the band takes him that way) . I know a lot of info but LOL it has to be said..

** - on their own, seraph does come to know in their own time.. but again if eloise was the one to talk about it with them their reaction would be different. Their first thought is to get out of there, but again theyre trapped on tour. But in addition to that i think atlas makes them feel so special, and KNOWING this secret makes them feel even more special (and its kinda romantic LMAO), so even though they know they should run, they dont. Which is exactly atlas’s intention with the way he treats them. I think part of them knows the reason for keeping eloise in the dark, but by the time they realize all this and connect the murders with atlas, theyre in too deep with him lol. Sucks for them !
