older petey is married (probs about 10 years atp) + he basically just sent lil petey off to college before the switch and he was handling it poorly . LMFAO me when im in a struggling competition and my opponent is petey t cat

lil petey saved him and petey knows that Very Very well. caring for him became his new purpose and helped him turn his life sround so now that lil peteys off living his own life hes kinda lost and it freaks him out really badly . he misses his son so damn bad bru 😭😭😭😭 bro was not prepared for empty nester depsair

thats why he gets so emotional in the comic LOL . seeing lil petey as a little baby again is basically a dream come true for him . he misses baby lil petey so bad 😭😭😭😭

the switch happens bc (current) petey makes some new body switching invention boogaloo and he thinks that it didnt work and calls it a day but it Did work it just took effect overnight instead of immediately like he had expected . also the body switching invention was across universes instead of within a single world like he had intended. LMFAO His stupid baka life 😭😭😭

older dog man is retired at this point. hes also kinda mellowed out bc hes older . older dogs are chiller and that applies to dog man too LMFAO . he doesnt have the stamina to be that high energy anymore

eventually the two peteys sync up the body switching thingy and go back to their og worlds . i assume when they switch back older peteys reached peace abt his empty nest despair probs thanks to lil petey . and current petey has a bit of a different perspective on both dog man And lil petey . smth smth valuing the time he has w them Now. yah. #corny but thats how i like it YAYYYYYY

I saw an oldish post of yours where you mention something about the musicaljuice and musicalLyds dinamic after the musical, and it was a fair thing to wonder about cause, yeah, tf do you do after that? Not a particularly openended story, in any case here's my cup of tea.

no one rlly likes beetlejuice besides Lydia and well, not just the fun parts, he helped her develop and put her in a situation where Charles had to listen to her, basically indirectly solved her daddy issues lol, don't know if Lydia would rlly think about the latter though.

But thing is he isn't rlly the ideal friend, nothing rlly happened during the musical to demonstrate growth from beetlejuice or any kind of communication with the whole "leaving him" thing from Lydia's part, in Beetlejuice's head she still was gonna leave him, bro rlly has no object permanence ANYWAY so that, it's likely that similar stuff (maybe not the full blown marriage thing but yk, a lot of misunderstandings and things happening because hr has the separation anxiety of a two month old puppy)

It would take some character development for him to not think Lydia is gonna leave him forever as soon as she walks to a different room, and bringing up another thing you said, Lydia isn't exactly the best either, they were just using eachother to feel better but it wasn't rlly sustainable, but the difference is Lydia changed and Beetlejuice didn't, and most likely he won't, similar to your toonjuice comic where he is capable of caring and he can develop yes, but he isn't gonna change, there's just so much wrong with musicaljuice he can grow in his own Beetlejuice way, but in the end of the day he's still him.

weirdly enough,both toon and musicaljuice are the more "human" of the juices in a sense, or at least, the most emotionally vulnerable and even relatable to a level (more leaning towards musical in this point, I haven't really seen much of the cartoon) because at his core he wants to connect and feel loved, he kinda sucks at both of em tho which makes it hard for any dinamic he could be a part of to work 💔

So yeah that's my thoughts sorry for the mess of dispersed ideas and the long ass text.

yeah musicaljuice is the definitely most "human" of the three. i feel like this is because musicals thrive on exploring characters' feelings and emotions, so we get to see a lot of that from him, and that helps the audience understand him better and relate to him to a degree you wouldn't usually see in the cartoon…much less in the movies lmao (even so i still find toonjuice the most relatable. me, personally.) bj's arc in the musical really hit home for a lot of people.

but i'm gonna have to disagree with you that bj didn't change or go through character development. at the beginning of the show, death means nothing to him. we all die. let's kill some people. it's whatever. but after the wedding ceremony where he came to life just to die a minute later, when he protects lydia from his mother, he shows that his view on life and death changed quite a bit after what he just went through. he saw that lydia's life was precious and would not let his mother take that away from her. note that in Say My Name, he's stopping her from jumping off the roof only because he needs her alive, since she's the only living person who can actually see him and therefore summon him. but after the wedding, he's very selflessly protecting her right to live. not just that, but he kills his own mother (the cause of all his emotional issues) in order to save lydia. that's HUGE. symbolic, too!!

he's the only one of the juices who actually went through a character arc and showed growth by the end of it. toonjuice is notoriously bad about this sort of thing lol. and moviejuice is…..question marks. what even is he. we just don't know.

the thing is we didn't get to see much of him after the events that changed him. the only interaction he has with lydia after that is their goodbye, which was very sweet and did a great job at showing that there are no hard feelings. but like…how different would their dynamic be after all that? because it was a pretty significant shift in character from him, which would probably affect how they get along with each other.

…OR WOULD IT….?

see, there's also the possibility that they would simply go back to how they were during That Beautiful Sound. just two fucked up friends having fun in ways that only make sense to them. although maybe his abandonment issues wouldn't be such a problem after doing the incredibly cathartic act of killing his mother lmao. or maybe lydia, now understanding him a lot better, would help him figure out how to deal with his issues (this is a big maybe because she doesn't come off as the type of person who would do that…that's more of a toonlyds thing.) perhaps maybe they would talk things out, she would probably tell him "i wasn't leaving you, stupid." bro was scheming against her while she was literally upstairs gushing to the maitlands about "her monster" lol but he didn't know that!! after the whole wedding stuff and meeting his mother i think lydia would go "oh now i get why he acted so weird."

it's all one big "maybe" because i think it could go either way with these two, and it all hinges on the direction you want to take them in. you mentioned bj isn't an ideal friend, and i guess you could try making him one?? but he doesn't have to be. i certainly wouldn't expect him to be the ideal best friend, not by any sane person's standards anyway. and that's the thing about them, they're both chaotic and messed up, and it's likely they would remain so even after the events of the musical because that's just the kind of people they are. not to mention the fact that you can't get rid of bj's emotional issues overnight. all of this, and they would still be inseparable because of the unique type of connection they have. there's these posts i saw the other day that i think encapsulate them pretty well lol

i would say that the one thing we know for sure is that he now has an undying loyalty towards her. she tricked him and then killed him, and yet he still went out of his way and faced his own personal demon to save her and showed gratitude for allowing him to be alive, even if it was just for a bit.

this dumbass though. instead of scheming against her, if he wanted to become alive so he could stop being invisible, he could've just told her that. considering how big of a weirdo she is, it's so easy to imagine her agreeing to the marriage thing just to make him alive, if he had brought it up in a less insane manner lmfao but then we would have no plot now would we

I love the solid black shading in your work, what inspirations did you look at when developing it?

I'm not sure there's a specific name for the technique, but I really want to try my hand at it. Lately I feel like I've been so caught up in color, my line art needs some love, lol

I’m not a professional but I believe what you’re referring to is inking skill. For me, it’s a combination of growing up with and loving comic books/manga and continually not having confidence in my own coloring skills.

When I was younger- western comics had only just started being digitally colored. Before that, the standard was either black and white or solid color shading. So that surely kicked off the way I tend to line/shade things. I still look back at some of the big western names from time to time- Joe Sinnot, Frank Miller, Mark Farmer, just to name a couple. But for manga (which was probably a bigger influence to me) there’s wayyy too big of a list

If you’re intent on honing that skill: what I think is really important is to first completely enjoy a piece of art, without the intention of studying it. If it stands out to you, go back and figure out WHY you connected with it. When you finish a comic- pick apart what makes it work. Note where the shadows fall, the line weight for certain scenes, the use of action lines, blank spaces, etc etc

Inking *can* be forgiving. It may not entirely matter if everything is “in the right place”, because humans’ eyes tend to try to fill in the gaps. For example you can go the route of entirely blacking out sections of a subject. Inking can also be extremely unforgiving and showcase your inability to understand lighting and contrast 🤪

⬆️ Note that I wouldn’t use this particular drawing in a standard panel setting. Because of the harsh lighting/contrast it gives a serious tone and would be reserved for an intense scene

Coloring this type of lineart has also proven to be difficult in my experience and experimentation. Maybe this is just me, but I think more saturated colors compliment it well

However, this level of detail suits a one-off illustration better. I can’t imagine coloring an entire comic in this style unless there was a whole ass team working on it 😅

heyyy, sorry if this is annoying but I really admire the way you bring Aldiirn to life through your various works (& also found your tips about making comics etc very enlightening) so I figured I may as well at least try asking: how did you get into posting stuff (art, lore, etc) about your own characters to begin with?

I’m sort of new to the general OC-sharing scene and I’m struggling with trying to figure out how to start posting “content” for my characters in a way that will mean other people who aren’t me will be able to appreciate or even just understand anything about them, yknow? Like, it’s really hard to condense information into tasty digestible bits, or know what parts to start with… I know a lot of it is probably just a matter of biting the bullet and getting on with it, but if you have any pointers at all I would really appreciate it because I’ve honestly been tearing my hair out about this for months lol.

I’ve been an OC artist since forever really, I just like the guys in my head and I’m the only one that’s gonna get them out. I got more into comics with D&D and would draw scenes similar to what I’m doing with BG3, though it was a bit harder since obviously no one knows the context of the entire campaign.

BG3 fandom is advantageous since it’s acceptable to insert your little guy into a cast and story a lot of people know, so that gives an audience context to start with. I don’t have to comic out the entire game, just moments where I can put an individual spin on for Aldiirn, and I can piggyback off the fandom to gain an audience.

There isn’t really a one size fits all to OC popularity. There’s OC artists out there who just post pretty pinups and little else and there and their OCs are popular. There’s others who post huge swaths of writing and lore and answer questions and their OCs are popular. Most OC artists I know just keep drawing their guys in standalone images and maybe keep OC biographies to toyhouse or something.

it does help to interact with other creators, hype up other OCs as well as your own. If you’re on Bluesky, there’s usually multiple people doing question of the day for tavs and rooks and wols and OCs in general and those can be a fun point for dripping in lore.

So I just reread BACKLASH after seeing new stuff on the cast page, and I wanted to drop by and say how much I frickin LOVE your comic!! Your characters have been scratching an itch in my brain since high school. I love how expressive your writing and your art is- both in the snark and sass and funny moments, and the serious and impactful ones. Your dialogue especially feels very natural to me- in every interaction, every character feels like a Person with a complex personality and a much deeper life than what we get to see on the page, even the side characters. And your planting for future events is so well done! I love the way you drop hints about future characters and show off the connections between existing ones. It's especially cool to reread after becoming more familiar with your other work and listening to those episodes of Blueshift you had up a while back- there are so many little background cameos to catch and so many small details about the world that make it feel real and fleshed out when you know what to look for. Your writing and characters and art were a huge inspiration to me when I first came across your work, and they remain so to this day. It's cool seeing some of your work again, especially after you've gone so quiet here on tumblr. I'm really looking forward to reading more Backlash someday, whenever that may be.

This is such a kind and thoughtful ask that I can't really put together the words for how it hit me, but I'll try to stream something along here.

At the end of the day all my stories, characters and comics are made for myself. I make them because I love to make them, and because I have fun doing it. But if that were purely the case, I wouldn't have an online gallery at all. I share my work online for the potential enjoyment of others, too. The two truths are 1) I make what I want to as ways of expressing myself, sorting through my own life, feelings and experiences 2) I think that perhaps my own experiences, though unique to me, might have a relatable core that could help others like me feel seen.

My creative energy and artistic output fluctuate with the highs and lows of my life. The amount that personal tragedy (no matter how large or small) effects the mind, body and spirit always surprises me, even as it proves true again and again with the passing of the years. The older I get, the more road traveled I have to look back on. A lot of times I am really upset by what that road looks like to me.

Frankly, I've had a pretty hard couple of years and 2025 is shaping up to be a roller coaster too. Despite therapy and working on myself, I've felt a very strong disappointment. It feels like I've missed the opportunity to tell my stories effectively because of how long I've taken to make them. Surely anyone who was interested in the stories I weave have long hit the road for other stories with more consistent updates.

I'm not really cut out for an internet that 'requires' constant posting anymore. I either have things to share, or I don't. I'm either on, or I'm off. I'm so burnt out and unable to function at times that it's a miracle I get out of bed (shout out to my partner for flipping me out of bed like a pancake when it's that dire lol).

So all that to say that, it really does cheer me up to hear that you've gone out of your way to re-read my comic that hasn't updated since mid 2023. It makes me excited that upon a re-read you've been able to pick up on the little details I've sprinkled throughout earlier chapters. (I looove the feeling of "IT'S BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME" when I revisit a work, so I wanted to try making a series with that aspect to it, too. Really happy it's started paying off even if we're not even finished yet!) A lot of the specifics here are things I've purposefully tried to accomplish in my work, and it's very heartening to hear someone praise those things unprompted. It's like, woah! Someone noticed the effort! Yippee!

Thank you for your support and for taking the time to express that to me in ask-form. It lifts my spirits and encourages me to keep working through the low days! I'm not going to let BACKLASH go until the story is finished, even if it takes until I'm 70 years old, haha. And I do truly mean ones who haven't been confirmed trans and/or are not coded as such whatsoever and truly cannot be read that way in the source (i mean of course you can always go the fun AU/headcanon route of "super cis person realized they were wrong" cuz duh, but I'm sure you know what I'm trying to word? I haven't read the comic in YEARS -- plan to after i'm done this semester! -- and from what you've said about June/from what I remember, I'd reckon that it's safe to say her dad is cis mcgee lol but i was wondering if there's anyone else)

i mean this is kind of an impossible question to answer right? like "not coded as such whatsoever and truly cannot be read that way in the source" is doing a lot of work here. people can and WILL interpret any and all of the characters as cisgender even if they on screen say that they're not. i mean, look at the response to June being confirmed multiple times over a five year period.

i could just as easily say, well actually, in MY opinion, Dad Egbert's values about gender stem from his transmasculinity & the way he has misshapen himself under the pressures of toxic masculinity, and it would make some kind of sense.

there are definitely characters who are meant to represent gender rigidity & unwillingness to self-examine their gender, but like... i think these characters exist to subvert the nigh-mythological status of gender just as much as the actual trans characters do. like, gender isn't real, it's totally made up, cis and trans people alike are engaging in constructed gender roles and Homestuck is totally totally aware of this. in that sense, no, i don't think anybody is fully "cis coded" in Homestuck (at least, not in the way this ask is looking for) because Homestuck presents all cis people's genders as subject to re-evaluation. that's like, the point of The Homestuck Epilogues & Beyond Canon -- to draw a parallel between fanfiction and transition.

take a look at the absolute copium being huffed by Dirk here (Meat 19) about how he's totally definitely 100% comfortable and unchallenged by his friends being trans, about how he doesn't owe anybody an explanation abourt how confident he is with who he is.
