So there was a post a while back about Ben Solo always being told "don't do (x), that's how uncle luke lost his hand" when he was a kid - and I raise you: Elrond and Elros being told "don't do (x), that's how Maedhros lost his hand"??

Like, at Amon Ereb when the twins were newly acquired and refusing to eat their vegetables and Maglor is Mag-mothering them until Erestor, feral half-sane clinically depressed anarchist Avari hostage/patient/infiltrator and Certified Little Shit, hits em with:

"I would listen to the Lord Maglor, winyamor, he well knows the dangers that come to young elflings who don't eat enough vegetables - after all, that's how his brother lost his hand."

Elrond looks conflicted. Elros squints suspiciously. "Truly?"

Erestor, practically comatose since the massacre but ultimately saved from Fading by the biological compulsion to fuck with you, lays a hand over his heart. "I would never lie about such a thing! Just what do you take me for? This is a true tale and a grave warning - the Lord Maedhros' hand was tragically lost in the days of his youth, whilst he was still growing as you are. He refused to eat his vegetables and so, cruelly deprived of the strength it needed to grow strong, his body started to fall apart! First his fingers, then his thumb, and then his palm and wrist - all turned blue and dropped off!"

"No!" Elrond gasps. Elros looks both terrified and impressed. Maglor's face is scrunched up into something that the twins probably interpret as pained - at reminder of the horrors of limbs falling off! - but is actually just him busting a rib trying not to laugh.

"Yes!" Erestor cries with relish. "And it never grew back. All because he didn't eat his vegetables. Isn't that right, Lord Maedhros?"

Maedhros, a looming terror at the head of the table, scarred and solemn and impenetrable as his fortresses, narrows his eyes consideringly at the unfolding shenanigans and the rascal behind it. His conclusion? Fuck it. He gives a slow, solemn nod. Completely deadpan and exaggeratedly formal, because it may have been centuries since he last had his brothers smothering laughter at political dinners but the Finwëan sense of humour, once caught, is not an ailment easily cured.

Maglor conceals his wheezes behind his goblet as Erestor nods sagely to the wide-eyed twins, who suddenly seem a sight more interested in their vegetables.

i made a rough timeline for the clone^2 au, just for my own convenience sake when dating things. some things might be out of order from the episode date, and thats also for my convenience.

September 3rd: Danny, age 14, has the accident in the lab that turns him liminal

September 10th: Danny is discharged from the hospital and given two weeks leave from school

September 24th: his sick leave ends, and Danny returns to school

October 14th: Danny sneaks into his parents' basement and releases the ghosts they have trapped in cages. Official birth of the vigilante, Phantom

November 27th: Danny fights Pariah Dark, and wins

December 24th: the Ghost Writer torments Danny

February 12th: Danny's 15th birthday

March 3rd: its been six months since Danny's accident

March 7th: Danny fights his evil future self

May 8th: Danny meets Ellie [age 15] and they become twins

December 14th: Danny finds out from his parents that he's a clone

February 12th: Danny's 16th birthday

Early-Mid April: Danny meets Damian [age 6] :)

Mid-Late April: Damian runs off for the first time, damages Danny's hands the first time

May: Damian runs off two more times in the span of three weeks, he damages Danny's hands both times.

Early June: Damian runs off one more time, damages Danny's hands again, resulting in permanent nerve damage.

Mid-Late June: Damian finally gives up on the League coming to get him and joins the Fenton Family.

July: Damian finally coaxes Danny into letting him come along with him on patrol: Wraith is born.

alan alda storytime

the full story from one of the screenshots of my previous post.

story begins with my archaeology professor showing a slide of alan alda in the early 2000s holding some mammoth bones and asks the class if anyone recognizes him. i had watched some MASH with my mother when i was little and had also seen the movie The Object of My Affection, so i raised my hand and said it was alan alda. he lit up and said yes, it was, and told the rest of the class he used to be on this old show, and that when we got more into the bioanthro side of things, remind him to 'tell his alan alda story'.

about 2 months later, we are in bioanthro, and i remind him. he gets excited and says he included slides to talk about it.

he tells us how he had just moved to a new city, and he had taken a university job in order to get insurance for his new family [which he didnt get but thats neither here or there]. he gets news that his job is going to be working with Scientific American Frontiers, hosted by the one and only Alan Alda. my prof was thrilled, he loves MASH, and while he specifically wouldnt be involved in the process [being a presenter, working with alan, etc] he was allowed to be around incase they needed help.

i dont know the specific episode, or if it can be found anywhere, but the topic was early man and tools, and how there were mammoth bones that specifically had cuts that could only be made with tools, not by teeth from an animal. they had finished filming for the day and just needed B-roll of some lions at the local zoo chewing some bones [part of the experiment], and alan got a call. he asked if he could head out now, because he needed to get back to his hotel now, and the call had been important. the producers said sure, go ahead, and alan asked if someone could give him a ride.

my professor, having the chance to actually spend time with someone he idolized, and being a stupid late 20s-something, volunteered immediately. stupid why? well, i said he'd just moved there. he didnt know where the hell anything was, and he didnt have GPS available to him, he was just really excited. so they get in the car and start driving.

as i said in my previous post, alan alda had about 20 minutes with this random guy, and found out pretty quickly that he was an archaeologist, and the amazing topic of conversation that he picked was the [then new] theory that we developed agriculture specifically to make booze, and that the rest of the stuff was more or less a biproduct. which is pretty on-brand honestly.

after a while, alan catches on to the fact that this guy clearly has no idea where the hell hes going, and that they've been driving in circles around the city for a while now. he [reportedly very politely] said that actually, this here was his stop, and thanked him for the ride. he then most likely called a taxi that actually knew where it was going, and got to his hotel.

turns out the call was about The Aviator! the call was important because he learned it was confirmed he in it and they needed him to get over there.

its not a glamourous story, but its the only story i got. my prof reported he was a funny guy, and despite slightly kidnapping the poor man for a while, he was the picture of kindness and personability. and clearly he likes telling the story and it left an impression, because he took time out of our already-short lecture to tell a class of 20-somethings that had no idea who Alan Alda was about it.

I feel like they really did their very best #And even though what I'm going to say next is probably going to be all critic - because I nitpick things and that's what I always end up–#talking about - I still want to underline that it was a very solid and enjoyable episode!!!#Alright the ss/kk was so 💞💞💞 every scene I had to rewatch twice or thrice akhscbashfb they're so cute!!!#Except for the riding scene tho. That scene gives me massive second hand embarrassment every time I just wish it will end as fast as–#possible pffttt. Mmmmhhh... The drawings weren't even too bad all accounted. My main complain is about the quicksand scene...#I feel like that one should be a slow quiet emotional scene. I never licked the choice of using the song as background soundtrack :/#I feel like it ruins the mood of the scene (it was still good though)#I also... Generally don't like the direction they seem to go for with Akutagawa's character in the anime‚ he seems quite a bit flatter–#compared to how he is in the manga. He can't be angry and evil ALL the time you need to show that softness get through from time to time.#If not what even is the point of his character. Yet in the anime he's angry (and not distraught) when he loses the mine craft and he's–#angry when he's questioning Atsushi about his motifs and he's angry when he's bragging about Atsushi's abilities to Goncharov and he's–#angry when he makes the promise with Atsushi at the end of the episode and eventually he'll be just as angry even when telling Atsushi–#to run away as he's sacrificing his life for him. It is pretty flat at the end of the day.#If I can say something about K/ensho Ono without being killed I think they do contribute to making him feel angry all the time.#But that said it's all probably poor directing choices (or simply choices I don't agree with).#Also‚ about cuts. Usually I try to be lenient about it– I understand it's hard to fit in everything and b/sd already does a very–#good job by adapting the manga almost panel-by panel. It's just that... You skip Akutagawa showing compassion for Atsushi after the–#orphanage director died. You skip Atsushi sharing the same compassion when Akutagawa loses his targed in the mines chase. You skip the–#“Nothing special about that. // I suppose he's far crueler than my own mentor.” line. And sure each of them may be negligible by their own #But together they wave a consistent web of relationship between the two characters you know? And it's a loss to omit them all #Well no mind. Again it was still a great episode overall!!!!#I think the colors in the mines could have been prettier in the mines but we can't have it all #Off to season 4!!! #ask me #okay there's a lot going on here but first things first #viktor has transcended the favorite character tier where I want to protect him or whatever #like yeah he did that shit! I support him but I also don't! the more trouble he gets himself into the happier I'll be!#do you feel me #like one of the things I love most about Viktor is that I feel so much sympathy for the circumstances he's in that are out of his control #but he has so much agency in his own story that everything he's gained and accomplished are because he makes choices #and GETS HIMSELF places #and now the same thing is happening with his BAD choices and I find that just as delightful if not moreso #he is the agent of his own salvation and his own destruction and I will be in the front row seat with popcorn for both or either #so writing him is mostly me studying him under the microscope poking him until he does something untoward it's very fun #I only hesitantly say that Viktor is like me but the Balkan ties and the grumpy-but-kind and obsessive personality #and the strong opinions about a chosen STEM field #are inescapable okay #mommy issues is not circled because I have mommy issues but bc I have convinced myself that Viktor WILL have them #if Nikola Tesla is anything to go by #the jayce-mel-viktor trifecta is ruled by mommy issues and i will stand by that claim #also viktor is more interesting with no therapy - with as little therapy as possible would be my preference #WITH THE EXCEPTION of the lonely genius shit that Singed planted in his head #that is absolutely the lie that Viktor believes that he MUST discard in order to progress as a character and I am excited for it #I genuinely think that Viktor will be happier and more eccentric as [REDACTED] but it won't last #he will hit a VERY LITERAL -if thy right hand offend thee cut it off- situation and then he'll have peace but he won't call it happiness #I can't say that I'd hate anyone who hurt him because that is half of why I'm excited for s2 #but I will probably lose it at any scene where he loses to [REDACTED] for rivalry reasons #I genuinely do want to see Mel completely own his ass as [REDACTED] though like can you imagine the banter #and both of them secretly having fun with it

#not snz #apparently he's some sort of cook for a living #idk what he does i just know he works in a kitchen #but this isn't like a career move or anything for him #he's super secretive about his job for some reason?? like damn how bad is it lmao #he didn’t even tell us what he does i just managed to clock him #he's been here for like a week now and I've been going in extra days bc my boss is on vacation and someone needs to train him #kinda quiet the first couple days and didn’t really talk until you said something to him first unless he had a question #and then i said fuck like five times in the same sentence and now he talks a lot lmao #swearing like a sailor gang unite i guess #anyway i tried to hand him off to another coworker so i could go play vet for a few of our animals #but he wanted to come and i was like 😬#bc one of the animals has a nasty infected wound that needs hella care #and I'm the one who does it bc it makes everyone else sick and/or faint #and i go 'oh no it's okay i can do it it's kinda gross' and I'm telling him Why and everything #dude looks me in the face he's like 'i work in a kitchen'#I'm like bro respectfully i think this is a bit different from raw meat #and he proceeds to tell me that he watched someone cut part of their finger off???????#like wtf is going on in restaurants #so i was too floored by that response to say shit so he came with me #and to his credit he was very good with all the medical stuff like I'll give him that #he's just so deadpan about everything and it's so funny to me #also he can do a handstand for over a minute #like a few of us were sitting in the office vibing and trying to bond and he just drops that then did it like??#i know so much about this man and yet i know nothing about him #so yeah workhas been fun lately lmao

A closer look at my young Askr siblings designs! Sharena's kind of constantly fluctuates, but I've always had a really clear vision for an early teen Alfonse.

#fire emblem #feh #tags on prev post (above post? other post.) apply here LMFAOO #outfits are kind of vague/unimportant (though i did ref young marth for alfonse)#i think what i want to capture most is like. esppp where sharena and peony split off when they reach a certain age #like idk how many other designs i've posted i feel like maybe one. but other designs for her #include twintails (ofc) and sort of a gradual process. where it ultimately ends up the way it does in canon #again my ideas for alfonse are v straightforward. going from high restriction ->#to some control over his appearance (although he is met w disapproval for it) -> to finding something he likes (as we see him now)#(secret other step -- mental breakdown and worst haircut you've ever seen by his own hand approximately 3months before summoner shows up)#i just think. these sorts of things are what make us human.#which is why one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is when younger designs for charas look IDENTICAL to their adult versions just smaller #LIKE.
