So there was a post a while back about Ben Solo always being told "don't do (x), that's how uncle luke lost his hand" when he was a kid - and I raise you: Elrond and Elros being told "don't do (x), that's how Maedhros lost his hand"??

Like, at Amon Ereb when the twins were newly acquired and refusing to eat their vegetables and Maglor is Mag-mothering them until Erestor, feral half-sane clinically depressed anarchist Avari hostage/patient/infiltrator and Certified Little Shit, hits em with:

"I would listen to the Lord Maglor, winyamor, he well knows the dangers that come to young elflings who don't eat enough vegetables - after all, that's how his brother lost his hand."

Elrond looks conflicted. Elros squints suspiciously. "Truly?"

Erestor, practically comatose since the massacre but ultimately saved from Fading by the biological compulsion to fuck with you, lays a hand over his heart. "I would never lie about such a thing! Just what do you take me for? This is a true tale and a grave warning - the Lord Maedhros' hand was tragically lost in the days of his youth, whilst he was still growing as you are. He refused to eat his vegetables and so, cruelly deprived of the strength it needed to grow strong, his body started to fall apart! First his fingers, then his thumb, and then his palm and wrist - all turned blue and dropped off!"

"No!" Elrond gasps. Elros looks both terrified and impressed. Maglor's face is scrunched up into something that the twins probably interpret as pained - at reminder of the horrors of limbs falling off! - but is actually just him busting a rib trying not to laugh.

"Yes!" Erestor cries with relish. "And it never grew back. All because he didn't eat his vegetables. Isn't that right, Lord Maedhros?"

Maedhros, a looming terror at the head of the table, scarred and solemn and impenetrable as his fortresses, narrows his eyes consideringly at the unfolding shenanigans and the rascal behind it. His conclusion? Fuck it. He gives a slow, solemn nod. Completely deadpan and exaggeratedly formal, because it may have been centuries since he last had his brothers smothering laughter at political dinners but the Finwëan sense of humour, once caught, is not an ailment easily cured.

Maglor conceals his wheezes behind his goblet as Erestor nods sagely to the wide-eyed twins, who suddenly seem a sight more interested in their vegetables.

#it helps that maedhros also has a metric fuck ton of scars so he can make up so much shit #know how i lost my eye? didnt go to bed on time and it shrivelled up #why do i have to wear a shoulder brace sometimes? didn't practice my letters and the bones all fell apart #where'd my fingernails go? didnt wash my hands before eating and they ran away #why is my back all stripy with criss-cross lines? didnt use my cutlery and they attacked me #why are some of my teeth metal? cause i didnt clean em properly for two minutes with mint ointment and i accidentally ate them in my sleep #whys there grey bits in my hair? didnt bathe after running around in the woods and the cobwebs got stuck and never came out #what happened to my ears? ducked underneath a horse and it spooked and bit them off so never ever do that again elros its very dangerous ok #i dont care your ears are smaller because youre peredhel elros the horse will get you #whys my hair so short? didnt comb it so it was stolen by orcs now hand me the brush and get over here elrond your head's a birdnest #for all that the kid's questions sometimes make maedhros a lil uncomfortable its actually really healing for him #sure sauron whipped him until his spine broke but now he uses those marks to get his kids to eat with cutlery like civilised people #and he cut his hair in a depressive spiral after fingon died but his kids think it was so tangled the orcs stole it to make scruffy orc wig #and his shoulders fucked from hanging on thangondrim for decades but if you kids dont sit down and do your lessons then so help me -#his beloved fingon always kissed his scars when he was allowed but it was witty irreverent half insane erestor who helped him laugh at them #i kind of ship it in a 'secret third thing' kinda way u feel me? not sex not friends but they bring a lot out of eachother its weird #erestor #maedhros #kidnap fam #elrond and elros #maglor #there is a fic that goes with this who wants it

i made a rough timeline for the clone^2 au, just for my own convenience sake when dating things. some things might be out of order from the episode date, and thats also for my convenience.

September 3rd: Danny, age 14, has the accident in the lab that turns him liminal

September 10th: Danny is discharged from the hospital and given two weeks leave from school

September 24th: his sick leave ends, and Danny returns to school

October 14th: Danny sneaks into his parents' basement and releases the ghosts they have trapped in cages. Official birth of the vigilante, Phantom

November 27th: Danny fights Pariah Dark, and wins

December 24th: the Ghost Writer torments Danny

February 12th: Danny's 15th birthday

March 3rd: its been six months since Danny's accident

March 7th: Danny fights his evil future self

May 8th: Danny meets Ellie [age 15] and they become twins

December 14th: Danny finds out from his parents that he's a clone

February 12th: Danny's 16th birthday

Early-Mid April: Danny meets Damian [age 6] :)

Mid-Late April: Damian runs off for the first time, damages Danny's hands the first time

May: Damian runs off two more times in the span of three weeks, he damages Danny's hands both times.

Early June: Damian runs off one more time, damages Danny's hands again, resulting in permanent nerve damage.

Mid-Late June: Damian finally gives up on the League coming to get him and joins the Fenton Family.

July: Damian finally coaxes Danny into letting him come along with him on patrol: Wraith is born.

alan alda storytime

the full story from one of the screenshots of my previous post.

story begins with my archaeology professor showing a slide of alan alda in the early 2000s holding some mammoth bones and asks the class if anyone recognizes him. i had watched some MASH with my mother when i was little and had also seen the movie The Object of My Affection, so i raised my hand and said it was alan alda. he lit up and said yes, it was, and told the rest of the class he used to be on this old show, and that when we got more into the bioanthro side of things, remind him to 'tell his alan alda story'.

about 2 months later, we are in bioanthro, and i remind him. he gets excited and says he included slides to talk about it.

he tells us how he had just moved to a new city, and he had taken a university job in order to get insurance for his new family [which he didnt get but thats neither here or there]. he gets news that his job is going to be working with Scientific American Frontiers, hosted by the one and only Alan Alda. my prof was thrilled, he loves MASH, and while he specifically wouldnt be involved in the process [being a presenter, working with alan, etc] he was allowed to be around incase they needed help.

i dont know the specific episode, or if it can be found anywhere, but the topic was early man and tools, and how there were mammoth bones that specifically had cuts that could only be made with tools, not by teeth from an animal. they had finished filming for the day and just needed B-roll of some lions at the local zoo chewing some bones [part of the experiment], and alan got a call. he asked if he could head out now, because he needed to get back to his hotel now, and the call had been important. the producers said sure, go ahead, and alan asked if someone could give him a ride.

my professor, having the chance to actually spend time with someone he idolized, and being a stupid late 20s-something, volunteered immediately. stupid why? well, i said he'd just moved there. he didnt know where the hell anything was, and he didnt have GPS available to him, he was just really excited. so they get in the car and start driving.

as i said in my previous post, alan alda had about 20 minutes with this random guy, and found out pretty quickly that he was an archaeologist, and the amazing topic of conversation that he picked was the [then new] theory that we developed agriculture specifically to make booze, and that the rest of the stuff was more or less a biproduct. which is pretty on-brand honestly.

after a while, alan catches on to the fact that this guy clearly has no idea where the hell hes going, and that they've been driving in circles around the city for a while now. he [reportedly very politely] said that actually, this here was his stop, and thanked him for the ride. he then most likely called a taxi that actually knew where it was going, and got to his hotel.

turns out the call was about The Aviator! the call was important because he learned it was confirmed he in it and they needed him to get over there.

its not a glamourous story, but its the only story i got. my prof reported he was a funny guy, and despite slightly kidnapping the poor man for a while, he was the picture of kindness and personability. and clearly he likes telling the story and it left an impression, because he took time out of our already-short lecture to tell a class of 20-somethings that had no idea who Alan Alda was about it.

#oh yeah #this show is hosted by a guy from an old TV show #mash #mash 4077 #mashblogging #alan alda #m*a*s*h #hawkeye pierce #this is the same prof that organized an off-campus field trip thing #and when i said i didnt have a way to get to the place he just. offered to give me a ride #this was a class of like 200 people and just 'well if you need to get there and dont mind a messy truck-'#A+ person overall. gave me a piece of obsidian debitage from a flintknapping demonstration #even babyproofed it for me beforehand. still cut myself on it [i broke a tiny piece off on accident and made it sharp again]#also that moment of raising my hand to go 'alan alda meethinks' was horrifying #silent room looking at this picture of this dude handling mammoth bones and im like 'i can identify this old man. maybe.'#wasnt even sure. ive rewatched MASH now but at the time it was foggy #wasnt even the first time hes shown up in my schooling! im going into psych and the bastard has appeared twice #that episode where they cut the guys corpus callosum. imagine being a 17 yo in a room of 15 yos #[i took the class late] and silently freaking out cause you know who that is but no one else does and then the teacher says #and then a year later being in college in your first psych class and the SAME VIDEO gets played. wild shit #anyway that makes 3 years in a row that at least 1 class has had alan alda in it. if it gets to May next year and he hasnt shown up #im gonna make him show up somehow. dissertation on how hawkeye pierce is a good example of PTSD in media #be the change you want to see in the world

I feel like they really did their very best #And even though what I'm going to say next is probably going to be all critic - because I nitpick things and that's what I always end up–#talking about - I still want to underline that it was a very solid and enjoyable episode!!!#Alright the ss/kk was so 💞💞💞 every scene I had to rewatch twice or thrice akhscbashfb they're so cute!!!#Except for the riding scene tho. That scene gives me massive second hand embarrassment every time I just wish it will end as fast as–#possible pffttt. Mmmmhhh... The drawings weren't even too bad all accounted. My main complain is about the quicksand scene...#I feel like that one should be a slow quiet emotional scene. I never licked the choice of using the song as background soundtrack :/#I feel like it ruins the mood of the scene (it was still good though)#I also... Generally don't like the direction they seem to go for with Akutagawa's character in the anime‚ he seems quite a bit flatter–#compared to how he is in the manga. He can't be angry and evil ALL the time you need to show that softness get through from time to time.#If not what even is the point of his character. Yet in the anime he's angry (and not distraught) when he loses the mine craft and he's–#angry when he's questioning Atsushi about his motifs and he's angry when he's bragging about Atsushi's abilities to Goncharov and he's–#angry when he makes the promise with Atsushi at the end of the episode and eventually he'll be just as angry even when telling Atsushi–#to run away as he's sacrificing his life for him. It is pretty flat at the end of the day.#If I can say something about K/ensho Ono without being killed I think they do contribute to making him feel angry all the time.#But that said it's all probably poor directing choices (or simply choices I don't agree with).#Also‚ about cuts. Usually I try to be lenient about it– I understand it's hard to fit in everything and b/sd already does a very–#good job by adapting the manga almost panel-by panel. It's just that... You skip Akutagawa showing compassion for Atsushi after the–#orphanage director died. You skip Atsushi sharing the same compassion when Akutagawa loses his targed in the mines chase. You skip the–#“Nothing special about that. // I suppose he's far crueler than my own mentor.” line. And sure each of them may be negligible by their own #But together they wave a consistent web of relationship between the two characters you know? And it's a loss to omit them all #Well no mind. Again it was still a great episode overall!!!!#I think the colors in the mines could have been prettier in the mines but we can't have it all #Off to season 4!!! #ask me #okay there's a lot going on here but first things first #viktor has transcended the favorite character tier where I want to protect him or whatever #like yeah he did that shit! I support him but I also don't! the more trouble he gets himself into the happier I'll be!#do you feel me #like one of the things I love most about Viktor is that I feel so much sympathy for the circumstances he's in that are out of his control #but he has so much agency in his own story that everything he's gained and accomplished are because he makes choices #and GETS HIMSELF places #and now the same thing is happening with his BAD choices and I find that just as delightful if not moreso #he is the agent of his own salvation and his own destruction and I will be in the front row seat with popcorn for both or either #so writing him is mostly me studying him under the microscope poking him until he does something untoward it's very fun #I only hesitantly say that Viktor is like me but the Balkan ties and the grumpy-but-kind and obsessive personality #and the strong opinions about a chosen STEM field #are inescapable okay #mommy issues is not circled because I have mommy issues but bc I have convinced myself that Viktor WILL have them #if Nikola Tesla is anything to go by #the jayce-mel-viktor trifecta is ruled by mommy issues and i will stand by that claim #also viktor is more interesting with no therapy - with as little therapy as possible would be my preference #WITH THE EXCEPTION of the lonely genius shit that Singed planted in his head #that is absolutely the lie that Viktor believes that he MUST discard in order to progress as a character and I am excited for it #I genuinely think that Viktor will be happier and more eccentric as [REDACTED] but it won't last #he will hit a VERY LITERAL -if thy right hand offend thee cut it off- situation and then he'll have peace but he won't call it happiness #I can't say that I'd hate anyone who hurt him because that is half of why I'm excited for s2 #but I will probably lose it at any scene where he loses to [REDACTED] for rivalry reasons #I genuinely do want to see Mel completely own his ass as [REDACTED] though like can you imagine the banter #and both of them secretly having fun with it

Ramble/update/vent

#I realized I only passed out on the couch for 2 hours.....#I know he's upset but I'm still considerate of people when I'm upset #I think he's thinking about my mom #and I think he was mad cus I look like her when I pass out #she used to sleep all the time and they would fight about it #I wish I could pull her DNA out of me with my bloody hands #I'm gonna vent and post p-rn on and off cus I'm depressed #part of me wants to cut but I know it would be just for attention #...it's hard to not wanna cry for help without speaking #I'll try to answer asks n DMs #I'm just SO sad and need a hug but I can't get one #my dad is just so mean without trying and since he wasn't trying he won't make it better:(#I need to fall asleep in someone's arms after a sobbing sesh please I'm so sad and lonely #I basically got banished to the other room #and when I left he didn't say anything to me he's giving me Luke warm shoulder #I'm very stresssed and wanna cry n sleep with someone safe #I don't have anyone safe :(

Dude I miss reaching into that cremation furnace so bad. I so badly wish the owner of that cemetery wasn't fucking comically stupid and insufferable. But like I almost actually miss him even with how much he pissed me off because it was so funny working with him because he did stupid things no one else currently in my life can even compare to. I need to watch a bald man shovel molten hot bone and metal while wearing sandals, it makes me feel so alive

#personal #I watched that dude burn himself or harm himself in some way literally every day and I miss it #also when he cut his hand SO badly on that metal pipe or something and then had me superglue it shut #but then immediately got it stuck to the counter and then had to rip it off and rip the wound open again and has me superglue it AGAIN #btw he definitely needed stitches but he never listened to anything I said in regard to his injuries so when he was like #hey superglue my hand shut #and I could clearly see that it was just going to be incredibly painful and be a disaster #I was just like sure why not. I'm not being paid enough to actually do my job and if you want to pay me to harm you honestly. I'll do it #god. if working there wasn't legitimately gonna give me cancer and also ruin my mental health I would so be doing it rn #also my beloved dead pets. I miss them so #that place was such a fucking fever dream. I feel like I'm making this shit up sometimes #their disrespect of the dead really got to me though
