The room is so silent it hurts. Jack’s eyes are wide and sad, his hand clenching into a fist and falling to press tightly against his thigh. The glass Eric dropped is shattered to pieces all over the kitchen floor, a puddle of water slowly spreading over the gleaming tiles.

“Sorry!” Eric blurts out finally, voice trembling, body trembling even harder. “I – I just –”

“It’s okay,” Jack says, but he still moves cautiously with his eyes unmoving from Eric, like Eric’s some wide animal that he might spook. “I shouldn’t have…”

He trails off, sentence unfinished. Eric gets it. There’s nothing he shouldn't have done; Jack never does anything wrong. It’s Eric who startles and flinches and gets lightheaded whenever the stranger he’s supposed to be engaged to tries to touch him.

“It’s fine, Bi–Eric.” Jack clears his throat, then crouches down to pick up the shards, smiling faintly up at Eric. “This floor's been through worse. It’s not even the first time I made you drop something, eh? Least this time it’s just water and not peanut butter.”

Eric has no idea what that means. Eric doesn't remember. After a moment, the tiny smile on Jack’s face fades away. He looks down at the floor, sighs quietly, and goes back to picking up broken glass with his bare hands.

i think it takes a while for magnus to get fully introduced to annabeth's whole life of chaos because they make an effort to meet halfway so he doesn't really believe everything she tells him at first because there is no way that's all true

when he does start seeing it with his own eyes, he gets super stressed thinking his life is gonna get even crazier than it already is

he is constantly ready to throw down with frederick chase. he trusts annabeth when she says they're trying to maintain a relationship, but the second freddie steps out of line, magnus is ready to beat his ass. so is alex. and jack.

when annabeth starts learning how to cook, percy makes magnus try everything first because 'he's already dead, it can't hurt him'. alex is surprisingly down to try annabeth's questionable food. turns out that once you've eaten your depressed talking goat friend, fear around food mostly goes away.

when annabeth hears the otis and marvin story, she silently decides it is going to be a very long time before magnus meets grover

this doesn't have anything to do with annabeth, but the first few times he meets sally, it makes him really upset because she reminds him of his mom

magnus is kinda disturbed the first time he's caught up in a monster attack with annabeth and percy because they went from joking and casual to silently communicating plans and taking the monster down in seconds. he is upset that his cousin had to learn to be this way, but he is also afraid that one day that will be him and alex. alex thinks it's hot.

once annabeth introduces him to her other friends, magnus finds out he is not above guilt tripping his cousin's rich friends into funding the chase space or giving to the homeless. when magnus, alex, and leo join forces, rachel nearly maxes out her credit card.

one time one of the gods stopped annabeth mid conversation with magnus for a really stupid quest and magnus is flabbergasted. he's like, "your gods just do that??" and she's like, "yours don't??"

i think percy and alex would be weirdly good friends. not sure if for good or evil. but definitely friends.

frank and alex not getting each other's brand of shape shifting but still bonding over it. like frank's is almost always a manifestation of anxiety while alex's is a way to take control of her/his life, but does that stop them from seeing who can open the most jars as a gorilla? hell no

Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari is huge. Few things;

First, poor Carlos, having to announce his own departure is brutal.

Second, if Toto really only did find out yesterday, why? Was Lewis afraid he would change his mind? Guilt? Is the W15 a disaster?

Third, Ferrari was the only other option. There was very little chance he would wind up at Redbull. Max is first driver, Christian Horner has admitted to not seeing a future with him.

Fourth, BONO?! He signed an extension contract. So the question is does he have an out clause as well? Will Lewis buy him out? Can he? Will Bono even choose Lewis?

Fifth, Team Loyalty is a big deal in modern F1, but that's the key, it's modern. F1 drivers used to change teams more frequently. We've seen it even now. Alonso has been on six teams total, with separate stints at different times for Renault and McLaren. Kimi drove for five teams. Seb drove for five teams. Checo, five, and so on. Hamilton's stint with Mercedes is unprecedented. 17 years total. Not something to scoff at, but unprecedented. It shouldn't be treated as some ultimate betrayal. He was the exception to the rule.

Sixth, I think Lewis implicitly trusts Fred Vasseur. Do I? No. Do I think that the rumors going around about poaching Red Bull staff and the fact that we don't know about Bono or Andrew could mean that Lewis's side of the garage is stacked exactly how he wants it.

Seventh, Charles is not going to be second driver, not really. Yes, you don't bring a driver like Lewis in to make him second fiddle, but I think that the hope is that Charles will learn what he's been missing, and I love Charles but there are definitely moments that demonstrated room for growth. Lewis has always talked about how much the sport has changed, and even though it is his complaints that make headlines, his positive enforcement of some of these changes is a good attitude to bring. Charles is the 'Il Predestinato' they just want to make sure that he's the best version of it they can get.

Eighth, The Mercedes garage is going to spin this season. Their PR team is going to work like never before. They're going to spin the narrative to George, they're going to isolate Lewis. He can't be in the future development meetings anymore, he's the competition. His colleagues of a decade can no longer trust him and that is sure to be lonely. They're not going to let that be the story. I think we might even be seeing some of it already. The question as to whether or not Toto knew in advance, coming out against the fact that allegedly Sainz and LeClerc have known for at least a couple weeks, is interesting and I'm intrigued at the level of truth.

Ninth, Whether you like Lewis or not, there were moments last season that the team shafted him. Prioritizing his teammate when he was in a better position, abandoning him on podium, etc. Lewis was so supportive of Susie and Toto, George didn't even bother to do anything other than repost the official statement. Lewis was Jack's hero, now all of a sudden, George is the one on vacations, and teaching him carting. The relationship has been slowly fracturing since Abu Dhabi 2021. Whether or not Lewis leaves on a good note at the end of the season will depend on if Mercedes will even give him the time of day. This could very well be Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren.

Finally, I don't think Lewis Hamilton has ever been the type to pull the rug out from someone without cause. He's always been a huge target in the F1 community and I think he's been ready for a change for a while. It's hard to make a change, especially when you're leaving something that once treated you so well. If it is true that he gave Mercedes no proper warning then hopefully he apologizes and explains. We're not entitled to know, but they are.

it's corruption!! Jasper gets corrupted in her final full episode of the series after fusing with a full-on corrupted gem as a desperate attempt to win a fight. fun fact, she's actually the only full gem we see corrupt on screen - even Steven's was mostly hidden by the cliff-hanger

unrelated but seeing her get corrupted always makes me so genuinely upset. it looks so painful...

so truthfully, my sona moves into the area about three years after the canon. so Jasper has already been healed. Steven has moved back into the area with Connie pretty shortly before I moved in. it's a pretty displaced moment from the canon. I say that to mean when I even meet Jasper, it's when she looks like this!

not only has she been healed from her corruption, she had been shattered by Steven at the end of the series and brought back to life. her story is shown so clearly on her form I could talk about it forever. the band on her face being split, her horn cut off - a horn she shouldn't even HAVE in the first place. she's so different from her debut it's insane:

my sona moving in so late after the show means the canon events of the show stay intact. it's how they've grown AFTER that my sona really interacts with!

when my sona starts training with Jasper, she can recognize that she was corrupted at some point. it's part of the introductory classes at Little Homeworld (the Gem commune that reinducts corrupted gems from the Rebellion/the War back into average life) - Gems who were corrupted will be scarred unless they go to Yellow Diamond to get their form fixed. and for the most part, Jasper looks just like one of these corrupted Gems

but eventually my sona does realize that.... wait. Jasper was not a Crystal Gem. she wouldn't have been on Earth when the corruption blast happened. and from the way Steven and the Gems refer to Jasper... the dots didn't match up.

so my sona does go to Jasper at some point and flat out ask ".... what's the deal with the broken horn?" and. if you can believe it. Jasper doesn't say JACK about it for awhile. but eventually Jasper does have to sit down and say: "I fused with an already corrupted Gem. I denied help when Steven offered it to me. And I got shattered by Steven in a fight."

and of course, my sona is absolutely gobsmacked for lack of better words. you did WHAT. and WHAT. and SHATTERED. my sona knows so so little about Jasper that during these moments where when I learn more about her, especially something so vital, it genuinely throws my sona off.

"Is that what you wanted to hear?" she says, seeing my sona's eyes widen. "I told you it wouldn't be pretty."

"I..." I very hesitantly rest my hand on her knee as we sit. She flinches a bit, but finally, finally, she does not shake my hand away. "What was it like?"

"What?"

"You know..." I hesitate, before looking up to her. "Corruption."

Her eyes widen for the briefest moment before she immediately looks away. I see her fists clench, and when she speaks, it's quiet. Punctual.

"Painful."

I gasp, lifting my hand off of her leg. She glances down at her knee, looks away. For a moment, neither of us speak. The forest around us still speaks quietly, the wind rustling the grass slowly growing from the barren landscape.

"I'm glad you're okay," I eventually say. I return my hand to her knee, idly rubbing it with my thumb. I don't look up at her, so I don't see the sad smile she gives as she looks away.

"Glad someone is."

I look up again. She still doesn't look down, her face pointed towards the horizon, but I think I can catch the introspection in her eyes. For not the first time, I wonder who this Gem really is, what she has done, what she has gone through.

I lean against her shoulder. And for once, she doesn't move.

Oof. I knew this Jack & Joker ep was gonna punch me in the throat, but good lord.

The worst thing was wanting to watch these characters being happy and loving each other and bask in the adorable but not being able to because I knew that it was all going to be broken, and probably sooner than later.

This week, my poor boy Jack learned that everyone he trusts has been actively working against the best interests of not only him, but his community. And the biggest betrayal came from the man that he'd been defending just hours earlier. The dude that he was already talking marriage and adoption with (this was both the slowest burn and fastest progression of a relationship I've seen in a while. Kudos, show).

And you know? I feel sympathy for all of them. I feel the worst for Jack right now because he's the one who had a ton of his belief in the people around him shattered (and man, you'd think he would have lost that by now but nope, not our Jack. That optimism is going to have to be brutally ripped from his hands and thrown off of a building), but all of them have been manipulated and pressured and put into impossible situations by one man.

Which brings me to my final thought: if this show tries to pull some sort of last minute redemption for Boss I will scream. The man sucks. And whether or not he thinks he has reasons for what he's doing, I draw my own personal lines at having children chucked off of balconies.

HERE WE GO----- (Quick note before I forget, I only refer to Jack as his deadname and birth pronouns for the lore pre-transition, otherwise he is firmly he/him pronouns and his name is Jack, not 'Jacklyn'.)

-When Jacklyn had an anxiety attack at school from being beat up by bullies, Lily was called to pick her up and she left her college class early to do so. On the tram home (her countryside town had old-fashioned trams to get to the homes in the far countryside like her dads' house and farmstead), Jackie clung to Lily and cried all the way to their stop, and Lily just held her, rocked her and kept quiet. She found the quiet often left Jackie with the option to open up or not, allowing the kid that freedom and comfort. Jackie didn't say anything as they walked the long dirt path up to her dad and papa's farmstead/house, just took deep breaths and tightly clasped Lily's hand. When they reached the house, the two sat and cuddled on the porch swing. After calming down, Jackie sat up with a small smile and asked: "Aunt Lily? Can I.... c-can I call you mama?" Lily was shocked, of course, but felt so happy, felt so trusted, she nodded and squeezed Jackie into a hug. Despite not wanting to, she cried profusely, smiling the whole time, and so did Jackie. -Much like Lily, Jack never had a mom, so you can only imagine how it felt to have not one, but two then. Lily had already swore to protect this kid with all her heart, but on the day her kid called her 'mama', she swore to Sparda she'd bends the heavens and the Underworld just to ensure no harm EVER came across HER child. -When Jack came out as transgender at 13, Lily was a bit confused (as even out of Fortuna, she was still learning all about the LGBTQ+ Community as a whole) but she wanted Jack to be comfortable and happy, so she started referring to him by his preferred name and pronouns and used 'Jack-attack' as his new nickname, of which he absolutely loved. Since Lily was a tomboy and wore a lot of male stuff, he pretty much asked her what clothes she felt were best, that made her feel more masculine. She showed him around her favourite stores, showed off some off her preferred styles, but told him ultimately that how he wanted to look was his choice. No one has to adhere to gender norms- after all, her dad Farin, Jack's grandad, was intersex and did not give a damn about being seen as masculine or feminine, though he did dress masculine more often and identified with he/him. It just... didn't really matter to their family. -Lily has one tattoo, though she wants more to memorialise the people she's lost. The tattoo is under her chest, over her heart and simply says 'Sydney', as a symbol of love and a permanent mark for the woman that she felt she personally owed her life to. Okay, i've ranted so much I can't post all i've written so FINAL PART COMING NEXT.

HC about Sylvia's past (Persona 5)

Sylvia doesn't have any scars from her childhood, nor has she ever broken a single bone in her body. All the scars she has are emotional, typically due to neglect or grooming, depending on whose house she was in at the time. She was a foster kid who jumped around from home to home, since orphanages don't really exist in the U.S. anymore. Instead, through the "improved foster system," Sylvia and her siblings were bounced around from house to house.

But since the first house they were dumped into happened to be a Russian household, the rest of the houses they lived in were Russian, too. This is because the Russians they stayed with didn't really trust other people, and preferred to stay in their tight-knit community, even as they jumped from state to state. Finally, when she was about twelve (Lucy was ten and Jack was fourteen), the caretaker she was with was neglectful and uncaring, and after getting sick of the expenses of taking care of three stubborn children, two of whom just wouldn't listen to reason, he pawned them off on some black neighbor of his and called it a day. That black neighbor turned out to be David, and he vowed to foster the kids much better than they had been before. One year later, he signed the adoption papers and officially became her father.

While she was in those households, her siblings often got punished for acting out. They still have some scars as proof of how hard they fought to stay together and protect Sylvia. But Sylvia's passive obedience painted her out to be an angel in the eyes of anyone who's seen her. She always listened to what they wanted, always did as told, and never lashed out against anyone, because she was taught to be emotionless and beautiful, as is the Russian way. A true Russian woman is passive, quiet, and beautiful. (This is not true of all Russian women, and typically Russian men do not encourage this behavior in their daughters if they really do love them. Sylvia's situation is an irregularity, not the norm of Russian households.)

From being raised in Russian households, of course she became semi-fluent in Russian, all the way up until middle school age, when she was adopted by a non-Russian speaker.

However, Sylvia was not immune to her caretakers' abuse. On top of their emotional abuse, Sylvia and her siblings were also treasured and traded around for their white hair, which is rare in anyone who isn't albino. In the Persona universe, there are silver-haired individuals such as Yu and Akihiko, and already that's very rare in itself, but it's even rarer for anyone to be born with white hair. Lucy and Sylvia, whose hair grew the longest, often had their hair cut and sold by their caretakers, who justified it with "You can't be selfish about your hair; think about all those kids in the world who don't have hair like yours. You need to share." Sylvia was convinced this was right, but Lucy was smarter, and realized through Jack's anger that this was unjust and unfair.

When they were adopted, Lucy grew out her hair as an act of defiance, and her dad often braided it for her and made it look nice. It's obviously different from what he was used to, which was braiding his neighbor's daughters' hair, and their hair was all black and curly while Lucy's was white and straight, but it only made his fingers more deft in his field of work (theatre) and he learned lots of different hairstyles that wouldn't have been possible with curly hair before. Sylvia, meanwhile, had a harder time keeping her hair long because she was still haunted with taunts of selfishness and aggression in her mind. So instead, her dad suggested dyeing her hair her favorite color to make it her own.

She uses a dyed shampoo now to make her hair bubblegum pink. This is what she looks like with white hair.

Jshlatt got doxed 8 times. People have tried to dox dream twice. Thunder1408/Jack Manifold took a break because of all of this as far as I’m aware. Wilbur Soot ended stream early because of chat.

The fact that I can go to a friend and say “Jshlatt got doxed again” and they wont even hesitate to believe me disgusts me. Its sad its a norm here.

All of its a bit. They all have personas. Learn how to separate their persona from the person. Learn how to respect the person. Learn how to be a decent person with morals and common sense.

Don’t send death threats to creators over bits. Its honestly sad I have to say it. Grow up.

And while we’re still on the topic, respect their goddamn boundaries. Before you write fanfiction or draw art see what they are okay with being drawn in or written as and what they are not okay with.

Example: Eret, Schlatt, Tommy, Tubbo, etc aren’t okay with shipping. Wilbur Soot doesn’t want to be put in NSFW works, as do many other people. Just because the dream team is okay with everything doesn’t mean the rest of the smp is. Do your research.

If a creator doesn’t wanna be treated a certain way, do no treat them like that. Tommy, Tubbo and Dream don’t want to be babied. Don’t treat them as such. nothing more to it.

While I’m still here it’d be best to say it, don’t shame creators for their body types or draw them completely wrong because of the excuse of “his mc skin”. Doesn’t work. Don’t shame Sapnap for being chubby, don’t shame Fundy for being skinny, don’t white wash Skeppy in art, etc.

You’re like fourteen. A creator is not going to date you. I don’t know why it has to be said. Do not send hate to the ladies or gentlemen they date. that is their life and its good enough they trust us enough to share that.

Don’t look for a creators personal info. Just don’t. Its disrespectful, its creepy, and it can even be dangerous for them in some cases. (cough cough dream cough cough) (there are many examples, I just think a good one is dream)

Don’t talk about other streams during a certain cc’s stream unless they ask. Don’t try to tell your streamer to do something else than what they are doing in their stream already? Don’t wanna watch a minecraft stream? Wanna see cc play among us? Switch streams. Watch vods.

My lovely og minecraft watchers out there, as someone whos watched mcyts for literal years, I think its time to say, do not send hate to newer watchers. Just because they started later than you does not make them a “fake fan”.

Ffs the queen of swords always pops up. Anyway yeah I don’t see him getting into anything quickly. He could’ve in the past but I think past relationships left him drained af and feeling alienated. I think he has a shit ton of walls up and is a lot more no nonsense now. It’s probably intimidating and more blunt to others because he wants to get to the heart of why someone is trying to get with him since so many people try to pull the same shit and fuck around with him like he’s dumb. Past love life: welp. Do I really need to explain the 10 of swords. I think actually that he had all this past trauma and shit from relationships and even other shit he still hasn’t dealt with but there was no time to even process that because he had to get back to work and act like he was fine. I think he’s the type of person that buries himself in his career when he experiences traumatic stuff that he doesn’t want to deal with. And of course it’s easier when you’re busy 24/7 anyway. This relationship betrayed him in every way tbh but maybe it was a catalyst for better things to come though he still might not see this right now. Present: I don’t see him in a relationship now currently cause the hermit but also being a major arcana it’s like he’s really in a life stage right now where he just wants to be alone because there’s so much conflict going on and he’s feeling anxious and having all these negative pessimistic thoughts that he just needs time to himself. What is he like in a relationship? When he’s in a relationship he really puts all his focus on that person and will go above and beyond for them. There’s a kind of masculine and feminine balance in him in the sense that he’s ready to be the go getter and take charge but there’s also a vulnerable energy and overflowing emotions. He works hard to take care of his person and make the relationship work . The only downside is he could possibly be too smothering to his partner or come on too strongly because of past shit and maybe too clingy for some people since in a relationship he really shows his softer side and he’s not as aloof as he is to others. He loves to have little house parties with his partner and have friends and family over with a ton of food and music.

For date ideas he’s down for anything but especially something “magical” maybe literally some place like Disneyland or pagan festival like beltane? That’s specific af but there’s a medieval type of energy and nature spirits and shit, he wants to do stuff he hasn’t done before and that might even be outside his comfort zone since G. It’s New Year’s Eve already, even though it feels like Christmas was yesterday, Thanksgiving was last week, and Halloween was last month…and as usual I’m still in the planning stages where anything in my life is concerned. Now, after making amends with her true love, she and Hyde are married (since '82), with two kids. Becca and James. And are living the good life, like they both deserve.

Like I get that it was a huge fight and they can’t just immediately make up and Wilbur is a petty bitch who got hurt and uses etiquette as a defence mechanism so they have to clash again even though we know Wilbur is hurt and we can see that Tommy’s hurt and they don't want to fight and make it worse, but that are so angry and honestly the more they say to more they can understand each other even if it’s angry screaming.

Also the progress. The character development. Wilbur has gone from being ‘okay’ on Eldingvegr, to think he was still okay on Zephys IV, to trying to talk himself into believing he’s okay, to accepting he wasn’t okay but not being ready to admit it (out loud) yet for the longest time, to admitting it non-verbally to Jack last chapter to this chapter finally saying that he’s no okay. And the Ranboo of all people.

And admitting something wrong or that you aren’t okay is the first step towards healing. And he’s already starting be sort of letting go of his paranoia by trying to consciously trust fill and not immediately give in and even trying to give Ranboo a chance for once.

Good chapter! These are just my first thoughts dropped on a page. Technically I have a little more time, but I want to get it all out in one go, so I’ll sleep on it, but there’s a lot in there. There are a lot of details.

Also, Siren mom tried to teach Wilbur the Voice too! So technically he started young, which might be another asset over Tommy. I do wonder what would have happened if she hadn’t died. Like a world where Tommy’s dad died and their mom lived would have been so much better for him in general. But now I’m thinking Voice specifics. Would she had been a proper teacher? and yes siren mom tried to teach him the Voice! that's actually the main reason niki started teaching wilbur. because he'd already begun to learn, and he wanted a piece of his mother to hold onto, so that's what convinced niki to break the rules and secretly repeat the lessons she got to him. regarding the specifics of the Voice if his mother had lived, she would've been a really great teacher. his mother was part of the Themisian royal family, meaning she had an insanely powerful Voice and was trained with it from a very young age. even with the disadvantage of wilbur being a boy, he would've been able to become very powerful with his Voice with a lot less struggle had she been around to teach him.

A thank you to @vanhelsingenthusiast for setting my thoughts running on Seward and Dracula parallels and causing a rough, sleep-deprived ramble.

It ties back into the ongoing “Dracula is a story about love” war that I’m waging. At the core of their personalities, I think Seward and Dracula are similarly ambitious, deceitful, and capable of cruelty, but they end up in different places; Dracula alone and hunted and Seward being an essential member of a loving family dynamic.

On lying and toying with others: Dracula teasingly says Jonathan can leave and then calls wolves to the door, obviously making it deadly for Jonathan to actually leave as he wanted and trapping him in the castle [Chptr 4]. He’s not letting Jonathan go anywhere. He’s lying almost constantly in the first four chapters, but this instance is noteworthy in how directly cruel it was and how it seemed mostly just for the fun of it. Later, Seward offers Renfield a cat in an attempt to get an interesting response from him that can be studied in order to gain scientific notoriety. This is more clearly exploitative when considering that Seward only makes this offer after refusing earlier to give him one [”Tonight he will not speak. Even the offer of a kitten or even a full-grown cat will not tempt him” Chptr 9]. Morally, Seward has already admitted to being against giving Renfield a cat, and though his morals can flip multiple times in a single sentence [a post for another time], I don’t think he would’ve gone back on this. I think he’s only interested in lying to Renfield, offering the cat to get information but never delivering. Dracula and Seward have different intentions here, Seward probably thinking he's more justified, but what's happening is similar: toying with the vulnerable for some sort of personal benefit. They’re both ambitious, they both lie, and they are both capable of being cruel because of these traits. 

On love, connectivity, and technology: these topics seem separate but I think tie nicely together. Dracula is barred entirely from any stable or caring society. The locals around the castle fear him and understand him to be a threat, effectively warding him off and warning others against getting close to him. The only people he has, the three women, actively laugh at and defy him [Chptr 3]. More importantly, there is no one to help Dracula in any of his endeavors. He doesn’t even have servants so that he has to drive the coach to get Jonathan himself [Chptr 2]. Seward, though he is occasionally used as a joke [Van Helsing teasing him to cheer up Lucy in Chptr 9], is never treated cruelly or barred from interacting with the rest of the CoL in any way. It’s lighthearted, sweet, and productive. Seward is, more than anything, welcomed into the crew by teasing like this as it shows how close everyone is and how they help each other, Seward and Van Helsing working together to make Lucy feel better [Seward is never upset by this teasing]. If Dracula ever needs someone, he has no one but himself, and when Seward needs someone to help him save Lucy, Van Helsing drops everything to come to him immediately [Chptr 9]. 

Technology also makes Seward more accessible to others. He's able to better connect to the rest of the CoL through his use of the phonograph, allowing Mina to understand the depths of his emotions in a way that even writing out his feeling wouldn’t have accomplished. She mentions that the phonograph is “a wonderful machine, but it is cruelly true. It told me, in its very tones, the anguish of your heart.” The phonograph allows Mina to truly be “more touched than I can say by your grief” [Chptr 17] because it allows her to hear his voice and its variance as he recounts his loss and heartbreak. Before all of this, it also allows Mina and Jack to connect with one another through a shared interest in advancing technology, Mina enthusing about the phonograph and Seward enthusing about teaching her how it works. And, of course, when Seward very poorly attempts to lie to Mina in this chapter, she doesn’t laugh at him or treat him cruelly for how awkwardly he fumbles, she just tries to and succeeds in gaining his trust [they interact differently than Mina and the other two suitors do, but again, another post]. Dracula, being unable to use technology like the telegraph or phonograph, is completely barred from either method of communication! He is implied to be archaic and too deeply stuck in some sort of “old world” to be able to integrate into the “new world” enough to use its technology. [It’s significant that Van Helsing uses the phonograph in Chptr 24 as it shows that Van Helsing can also use technology that Dracula doesn’t yet have access to and makes parallels between them as well. This is also the same chapter where Van Helsing mentions that Dracula is attempting to learn of “new social life; new environment of old ways, the politic the law, the finance, the science, the habit of new land and a new people who have come to be since he was.” It’s not that Dracula can’t learn these things, it’s that he hasn’t yet.]

TLDR: Dracula and Seward are both capable of immoral behavior, but Seward won’t ever fully cross the line into being completely “evil” or even a full-blown “mad scientist” because he's able to connect with other people who love him and remind him of what’s important in life; caring for those who he loves being placed above ambition. If he was as barred from love and community as Dracula was, he would have nothing to keep him from hurting and exploiting others for his own gain, perhaps to an equivalent extent that Dracula does.

Night shift - finally a new Rocketshipping-fanfiction

My dear friends,

it’s been a while since I last posted an entry. Let me tell you why and what, besides Covid-19, made me pause from publishing fanfictions over the last couple of months. Of course, Switzerland was very affected by the pandemic and still is today. We had numerous lock-downs or as Swiss people call it “slow downs”. My mother got very sick last year, I almost lost her. The doctors said she would only live two or three more days, but my mom is a fighter. She had to stay at the hospital for months, she endured countless medical examinations, had to take meds and slowly learned to live again. I’m so proud of my mother that she was strong and determined to get better. When she turned back home, I started to take care of her and I hate to leave her on her own, even if we’re talking about half an hour or less. Right now, she’s doing quite good, actually, we’re on vacation and she makes a great effort to participate in life in Italy. She’s my role-model! She will never be the same as before, but she won’t give up, she wakes up every morning to make progress. I prayed for her and her well-being, I prayed every single night she might get another chance and now we’re here at the beach and dining in fancy restaurants. It’s been a horrible year for everyone, a year full of sorrow, tears and desperation, a year where I was constantly afraid, the hospital would call me with some bad news, but she did it! She survived and she fights for her life! So proud! Good news is: I passed my doctoral exams and I’m officially allowed to call myself Dr. phil. des. Chapter 1:

It was past ten o’clock when that miserable looking guy entered the diner. He inconspicuously sat down in the farthest corner of the café and immediately hid his face behind the menu card. Nevertheless, Jessie the waitress could make out the pathetic expression on his face, how he was cowering like a whipped dog. She had seen quite a bit in this diner. Drunks, thugs, addicts and other needy people who asked for a sympathetic ear, compassion and understanding, but that guy was different. He suffered terribly, but did not dare to communicate, instead he hid from the world so as not to attract attention and quietly endure his fate. Jessie had to do something about it. Of course, she didn’t want to play the Good Samaritan. She knew the tricks of the men who entered this diner. Most of the time, they told the waitress tall tales, hoping to be comforted, whatever they meant by that. But this young man did not make a shady impressionHe was well dressed, looked well-groomed, and Jessie was especially struck by his bright emerald green eyes, the only thing in his face that had not yet been veiled by grief and sorrow. She decided to do something about his displeasure.

“Did you have a rough day?” she asked while disinfecting the table.

He looked briefly into her eyes and nodded. “That’s one way to put it,” he answered, the gaze immediately lowered again.

This would be a taciturn conversation, but Jessie didn’t give up easily, she was a natural at making even rocks talk.

“Listen! No matter what happened, I’ve seen or heard some things. If I can help you in any way, my name is Jessie and I’m in charge of this table today. Let me just get the gum out from under your seat and get you a cold drink. What would you like?” She pulled a spatula from her apron and rubbed away the remains of the spoiled brats that marred her diner.

‘Wow,’ the young man thought to himself. ‘A strong, self-confident woman who lends a hand herself and who’s not above cleaning up dirt.’ Their eyes met briefly, and he forced a wry smile.

“You know, kid. You can’t rely on anyone. If you want to get everything done, do it yourself and don’t trust anyone. This world doesn’t give you anything for granted!” She briefly wiped the back of his chair before disappearing behind the counter and pouring the young man an ice-cold Coke.

“I have rarely seen you so concerned about a customer. Normally you show yourself aloof and only take the order, so as not to get involved in embarrassing conversations. Must be a really great pike, this pathetic creature in the far corner. Could it be that you’ve got a tiny crush on this guy?” For Eddy, teasing his best friend was the greatest pleasure. He didn’t know her like that. Jessie usually resisted any kind of small talk. This was due to her dark past, when she had repeatedly fallen for advances from men who were never looking for a steady relationship, but for a quick fix. Eddy had witnessed this bad time of his friend, how her heart was broken, how she was badly played with, and how she was simply dropped like a hot potato. Jack was the worst example of them all. While Jessie was already hearing the wedding bells ringing, he was making love to the women of the Strip and deceiving Jessie night after night with other broads. Jessie was devastated when she found out Jack was cheating on her. She was furious, not even at her lying boyfriend, but at herself for having been so stupid as to trust a man.

Jessie gave Eddy a light pat on the head. “Don’t be silly! That time is over. I can take care of myself, I don’t need male support for that. I’m a big girl, I make my own dough, and I keep my head above water pretty well. No, not a chance, I’ve sworn off flirting.” Nevertheless, she caught herself as her gaze wandered to the young man in the corner. “Oh yes, this time is definitely over,” Eddy smirked.

“Jessie, could you bring us a side of fries, please?” Misty’s order echoed throughout the hall. The twenty-year old waved her hands. She was used to speaking loudly, almost shouting, to attract guests to her daily water Pokémon show. Sometimes she walked up and down the streets of the Strip all day in the blazing hot sun, trying to win people for her underwater attraction. As an excellent student, she could have taught at any college, but she had decided early on to get into show business and make her living doing what she really loved, joined by Dewgong and Starmie. Her parents had not agreed with this decision at all, it was wasted talent, they had claimed, and had summarily turned Misty out the door. Since then, she had been struggling through life on her own, but could always count on Jess, the diner and her two best friends, Ash and Brock, young people who were also not favoured by fate.

“Temper your voice, twerp!” Jessie couldn’t help but grin. She spread the ketchup bottles around the table, hoping Ash wouldn’t spill on himself and the diner again. His constant companion Pikachu immediately hopped on his shoulder, grabbed a fry and popped it in his mouth. Ash and his Pokémon were carnies. He had trained his friend well and attracted many spectators with his performance. Most of them felt sorry for the guy and tipped generously. That’s why Ash was able to invite his friends to the diner every night, a place that gave them hope where they could experience security. They were convinced that nothing would ever disturb this idyll and that fate, for better or worse, had taken its course.

“Who’s that guy over there?” Brock wanted to know. He had barely sold chocolate and roses tonight. The others held back, but they were certain that their friend was just too pushy with women and that’s why he only collected rejections instead of green bills.

“I’ve never seen him here before. Must be from another area. I can’t tell you for the life of me why he’s wearing a suit at theses temperatures, he looks pretty pathetic to me anyways,” Jessie replied.

“Maybe his car has stalled,” Ash suggested, “and now he was forced to wander through the desert until the tasty aromas from your diner brought him back from his delirium.”

“Or,” Brock interfered, “he had to flee his own wedding because his wife is a real pain in the ass, unlike our sweet Misty,” Brock oohed at his friend. “Forget it, Brock! You and me, this will never happen!” She gave him a gentle poke.

“Enough now with your naïve speculations! Just let him enjoy his drink. We’re closing soon, so get going,” Jessie dismissed their absurd ideas with a wave of her hand, but at this point no one knew how right Brock was.

Dark thoughts hunted the young man. He knew what he would face at home if he was late. Beatings, torture, rebuke, harassment, were just a few words to describe his failed relationship. Unconsciously, he stroked his scarred arms.

“Can I get you something to eat?” Jessie pulled him out of the maelstrom of bad thoughts, of course she had noticed the wounds, but maybe he had gotten those injuries at work. The young man rummaged some coins out of his pants and let them jingle on the table. “Is that enough for a cheese sandwich?” Jessie hated small change, but she would make an exception for him. A friendly smile, a quick nod, and she passed on the order.

“Something’s wrong with this guy,” she whispered to Eddy. “He’s scarred, bruised and pays with penny coins. Possibly a vagrant.” Eddy couldn’t help but grin. “That guy’s been keeping you busy all night, Jess. What’s the matter with you? Are you getting weak?”

The young man could not overhear the conversation between the waiters, but he was sure they were talking about him. He sure made a rather frightening impression, but that was a private matter and not something you shared with a waitress in a diner.

His gaze drifted to the daily paper, which had two faces emblazoned on it: Butch and Cassidy. He had never heard of this odd couple, but according to the news, theses two were causing quite a stir and were terrifying the Strip.

“Oh, so you’ve already spotted them, those two knuckleheads! They keep the Strip in suspense, and heads roll when the taxes don’t add up,” Jessie served him the cheese sandwich and gave him a slight smile.

“Can I get you anything else?” He thanked her and took a hearty bite of his dinner.

The last half hour flew by and the remaining guests left the diner to spend the night on the Strip, as very few had a roof over their heads. Jessie set about cleaning up and Eddy checked the register.

The young man stood up and made his way towards the door. But before he left the diner, he glanced back at Jessie for a moment. A sigh escaped him. What if…?

Jessie returned his gaze and watched him go until the young man disappeared. She walked right up to his table and found a little note on the receipt.

“Thanks for treating me like a human being, James.”

Dream SMP Recap (January 15/2021)

Today, Ranboo decides to put a stop to this mysterious voice in his head and confront it head-on. 

Later, Jack and Tubbo work on the bridge to Snowchester. Jack develops his schemes against Tommy and plans to convene with Niki later on.

--- DISC UPDATE: Ranboo has a copy of “Cat” that could potentially be the real one. ---

- Ponk says that Sam told him to check on his Casino. Ponk assumes that it’s about the Cube, but goes to check on it anyway.

- He sees Lil’ Red and is surprised. It’s now Lil’ Green.

- He briefly checks on the L’manburg Crater, but the Vines haven’t spread enough for him to notice them yet.

- Ranboo logs on with the intention of getting rid of the voice for good by confronting it.

- Ranboo wanders through the Crater of L’manburg, pondering to himself.

- He goes to the Panic Room.

“Let’s give our friend a little visit.”

- The “Dream” voice welcomes him back. Ranboo says he doesn’t think he’ll have to come back to this place after today, because the voice isn’t real.

- “Dream” points out that while he isn’t Dream, he’s still as real as any other of Ranboo’s thoughts. 

- Ranboo theorizes that “Dream” is just something to fill in the gaps of Ranboo’s memory, that what he says isn’t actually true.

“Dream” argues against this. That Ranboo placing the TNT in the wall was Ranboo trying to remind himself even if he doesn’t like what he did.

“I’m just the truth. Maybe the hard truth, but the truth.”

- “Dream” suggests they try and remember together, to figure out what really happened. Did Ranboo really blow up the Community House?

- Ranboo writes down all his memories in his Memory Books except the things he doesn’t want to remember.

- He remembers walking towards the portal that day, and then there’s a gap. 

- “Dream” says Ranboo met with Dream in the Nether. Just remember.

- Ranboo remembers something about “keeping something safe.” “Keeping something very valuable safe.” That Dream trusts “this state of me.”

“What did I keep safe?”

“You got it from Skeppy.”

- Ranboo starts to remember. Dream gave him a disc to keep safe. 

- Ranboo runs out of the Panic Room. Where did he put it? He needs to find it.

- If he has a disc, then Phil and Techno are in danger.

- Ranboo runs through the Nether back to the snow. If he finds a disc, that means no one can trust him. Not even himself.

- He checks all his chests but they’re normal. But he wouldn’t put it in an easy-to-find chest, would he?

- He starts shoveling out the land by his hut, desperate to find the disc. 

He finds a chest.

And in that chest is “Cat.”

- Jack and Tubbo work together on the Snowchester Road. It’s a Soulspeed highway that stretches all the way from Snowchester to the mainland in the Badlands, running parallel to the Vault. 

- Jack says they could both use some quick access to Tommy’s place...

- Out of earshot of Tubbo, Jack explains to his chat that he’s helping Tubbo with the road because he needs a rapid path to Tommy’s home for his revenge plot. He’s planning on meeting with Niki on Sunday.

- Tubbo asks if Jack would like to try out his electric chair. Tubbo explains the democratic vote that decides the commune’s electric chair usage. 

- Tubbo decides that Snowchester is to be independent from the Dream SMP.

- Tubbo decides to try out the electric chair on Jack since he has canon lives to spare.

He decides that Ponk is no longer his enemy after they teamed up for the Mr. Beast Challenge.

It will be more serious than any of the other Tales episodes so far, and some characters may be descendants of the current cast. Karl has chosen to keep the cast a mystery for now.
