Literally had another trans person on tiktok tell me today that I should just raise the money for top surgery myself (on a video of me explaining why that isn't feasible for me no less) because gofundme is for "the sick and dying" and "not people like us".

First off, GoFundMe is not just for the sick and dying. It's for literally any cause that money needs to be raised for from graduation caps and gowns to funerals and emergency medical care. It's for everyone.

Second: does my history of depression, suicidality and struggles to avoid self harm because of a lack of gender affirming care not count towards that? I can't count how many times I've had to stop myself from either giving up on life entirely or trying to DIY my own surgery.

Top Surgery isn't a little decision I decided on a whim. I knew I wanted top surgery since 14 and have actively wished to have a 'good medical excuse' to have it done so I could get insurance to cover it. Now as an adult I'm not even eligible till I'm 21, and then I have to meet other obsured requirements to get it if I decided to wait it out.

But I can't. I'm at my fucking breaking point. I'm holding on by a prayer, and am doing my damn best. I keep myself busy so I don't have to think about it, play videos as I fall asleep to avoid the pouring in of thoughts. I'm asking for help and having to push aside the embarrassment that comes with begging for money to strangers on the Internet for the hopes that I can get a surgery date before the end of next year.

I wanted to have it done this year before the election in case the whole thing goes south, but I can't get the money fast enough. Even with me putting my own government given school money, even with both my partners providing what they can afford. I'm at my fucking limit.

So yes. I'm fucking begging for help on the Internet with a GoFundMe. And yes I am making zines that direct people to my top surgery GoFundMe. Because I'm fucking desperate. But it's better than suffering in silence without a prayer to my name.
