at any given time i'm thinking about how the name given to charles lee by the mohawk translated to "boiling water" because of his temper. they really called him Tantrum Thrower and he bragged about it like that was a badge of honour.

Slashers Adopted a Dumpster Baby
From seeing @angelbarelywrites 's post on Slashers accidentally Adopt a baby, I wanna do a version with a Dumpster baby.
Slashers: Michael myers (78, 07, and 2018), Jason Voorhees, Thomas Hewitt, The Sinclair's, and Bubba Saywer
Michael Myers
Tumblr media
He was doing his usual nightly routine
He thought he was hearing things when he heard crying
Following when it's coming from until finding a trash can where the noise is coming from
Opening it up to his shock, a baby was inside it
Michael had to call it early on his spree to bring this tiny thing home to you
You were still up reading your book when you heard the door open, then shut. Hearing his boots walking to your shared room with the now sleeping bundle in his arms.
"I found this little one in a trash can." He said as you get up to see the baby
Poor thing was abandoned at their birth
You decide to adopt this little boy, Michael wasn't going to argue with that. He couldn't put it back where he found it
John was the name you decided, John Myers
Jason Voorhees
Tumblr media
He was walking around the campsite when he heard crying coming from somewhere
Following when the noises are coming
Pamela found where the sounds came from, a Dumpster next to the Mess Hall
Opening it and his Heart dropped and almost his Machete out his hand
A little baby in a blanket was crying
Pamela was tearing up from the site
She tells his boy to adopt this little baby as his and your"s
Jason brought the little bundle back to his cabin
You were asleep when he came home, hearing him at your side of the bed
You opened your eyes to see a blanket with a little hand holding your man's finger
Think he took this little one from their parents he explains that he found this baby in the dumpster, his mother backed up his claim
"Can I see them?" You said him
You held this little girl, cooeing when deciding on a name for your newly adopted baby
"Pamela Melody Voorhees."
Jason cried on the idea of his adopted daughter
RZ Michael Myers
Tumblr media
He heard crying when he came by a alleyway, he went to the only dumpster and opened it
Oh my god, there's a baby girl in this dumpster
He took up this little one in his large frame and comfort this little one
This little one reminded him of Boo when she was a baby
He took this little one back with him to you
You were watching Gorjia 54 on the TV when he walked through the back door
"You won't believe what I found in a dumpster." He said when he got closer to the couch, "Michael, you didn't eat Tra." You stopped when you saw the little bundle in his arms.
"Oh my god." You said as you reached out for the little girl. "That's what I said when I saw her in there. Someone just abandoned this little one in there."
You both decided to keep her
Audrey, because your daughter that night
Bo Sinclair
Tumblr media
He's just walking around in a nearby town till the sounds of crying caught his attention
Discovering a little newborn in a trash pile just lying there
"How'd you get here, little one?" He said as he picked up the baby. "Someone didn't want you? I'll take you home."
Bringing home a new little Sinclair
You put your little girl to sleep as you went down to get something to drink in the kitchen
"Y/n my darling, do you think that there's room for another Sinclair in the house?" Bo asked through the opening to the kitchen. "Maybe why do you ask hun?" You replied
"Surprise," Bo came into the full of the opening. "I found this little one in a trash pile when I was out." Holding the little boy in his arms. "Someone just left this little guy? He's so small." You said as you walked to see the baby closer
"Well, I think Miles would be Anna's little brother." You said as you took the newest edition of the family in your arms
Vincent Sinclair
Tumblr media
Vincent didn't know that he would be a father till he met you, a sweetheart who loves him
Bo came home with something in his arms
"I think you two would love what I got." He said as he hands his twin brother a little girl. "Someone dumped her in a dumpster, I heard her crying when I was having a cigarette."
Vincent fell in love with this child. They're pink cheeks, and Brown eyes were so adorable. He took this little one to show you in the share room
You heard what Bo said to Vincent, and you made your way to meet him halfway.
"Oh, she's adorable." You said as you hold her little hand
Lila Sinclair became your and Vincent's child
Lester Sinclair
Tumblr media
Just doing his usual routine of collecting Road kill off the road to throw on the pile
A bunch of trash was on the side of the road with a box in the pile
A small noise came from the box, which caught him off guard
He looks inside the box
A baby??!!
Holy Fk, poor thing was left out in here for a while from how cold it was
It's still alive, thank heavens
Lester takes this little tike into his truck with Jonesy
Finishing up his task, he brings the little one home
You are shocked by what your husband found
"You think we should keep them?" Lester asked you
Aaron Sinclair was the name you both decided
Peepaw Michael Myers
Tumblr media
He was doing his usual spree till he heard a sound while walking around
He found a trash can with a bag where the crying was coming from
Looking in the bag, he tilted his head seeing a teary-eyed baby in the bag.
He lifted this abandoned child up to his warm body, bundling the baby in his coveralls to warm them up as he walked home
You were sleeping when he placed the sleeping baby on his side of the bed on a pillow till they started crying again, which woke you up
Immediately confused about why he has a baby with him and has it on his pillow
"You found them in the Trash?" You asked him as checked on the little one, He nodded
Poor child left in a bag, you decided to adopt the little girl
Jane was the name Michael decided
Thomas Hewitt
Tumblr media
He was taking the trash out behind his mama's gas station when he discovered the little boy in the dumpster
Poor Boy teared up seeing this abandoned child in there
Coming inside the station, Luda Mae saw his son crying with a little baby in his arms
She got Deja Vu when Thomas told her where he found them
Taking this little one home
Thomas rubbed the back of the baby that he found, cheeks still stained with tears
Hoyt gotten Deja vu from the Dumpster baby, the day Luda found Thomas in one
You came down the stairs seeing your Husband holding a baby, he found at his momma's gas station
"He found this little one in the Dumpster." Luda said, "Like how you found." Hoyt said before cut off by Luda elbowing him in the ribs
"They got a little birthmark on their arm Its not the skin condition you got, Tommy." You reassured him. He felt that he got the same condition he was born with, but he felt relief from that revelation
"I think Jedidiah would like a bath to feel better."
Thomas loved that name
Bubba Saywer
Tumblr media
He wasn't expecting this when Drayton brought home a little baby home
Him and you already had a baby not too long ago
But this little one was just dumbed at Drayton's Station
Bubba was panicking inside, who would leave a healthy baby in a dumpster
Nubs and Chop Top being themselves joke about the Bubba was a dumpster baby, but Drayton smacked the both of them from that
You cooed the little one you held in your arms
Bubba looked at the little one, their teal eyes looking into his blabbering at them with their hand reaching out to him
He fell in love with this little one
"Bubba, I think we should keep them." You said. He agreed on that idea
Isaiah Saywer joined the family

One thing about Kidnap-Fam?
It's how four broken souls had a few years of reprieve, before they went on to becoming even more broken.
It's about the emotions involved. Maedhros is severely traumatised. Maglor is in immense grief. Both brothers don't even want to live — their only reason for life is the Silmaril, and after Elrond and Elros, they just left it for "later".
Elrond and Elros witnessed the killing and blood spilled of their family, from their adopters. These boys are traumatised. They're too young to understand grief, yet they experience it.
And these broken twins are taken in, adopted, cared for, fostered by the murderers of their clan. On their end, it's trauma, hate, exhaustion, and reluctant trust.
Maedhros and Maglor may have made negotiations with Elwing about her twin sons. They provide for the twins, run behind them, and even foster them — although initially it is reluctant. To these brothers, the twins are mere burdens.
But as they grow closer, as they understand each other, their grief and trauma are festered into a love so deep, they were willing to let go of each other to keep each other safe.
It's how in the beginning, Maedhros and Maglor saw Elrond and Elros as political burdens, but in the end, they were a blessing, and a source of temporary healing for them all.
It's tragic that they don't have a happily ever after. However, they enjoyed every moment spent, and that in itself is a respite, a happiness no matter how twisted it started.
All I can think of are Maedhros's last moments. When he threw himself into the fire, was he thinking that for children like Elros and Elrond, his passing would make the world better? Was he reminded of Eluréd and Elurín, whom he failed to find, and in a twisted turn of fate, found and cared for their nephews? Was he thinking about Maglor, about his family?
All I can think of are Maglor's thoughts when he threw the Silmaril into the sea. Was he cursing himself and his family? Did he think that by drowning the stone, perhaps he and the twins could have had a happier ending? Was he lamenting the lives he took, only for the Silmaril to slip from his hands, all to go in vain, his brothers and father gone, his mother a whole world away, his deeds unforgivable? Did he think he was too horrible for death, so he chose the utter torment of life?
And Elros and Elrond. What did they think when their guardians left? Did they feel abandoned? Angered? Resentful? Or did they understand, and mourn for what they didn't and could have?
For Maedhros and Maglor, time spent with the twins was short. Too short.
For Elrond and Elros, time spent with the brotbers was long lived, but not as long as they thought when they grew older.
They all do have a happy ending, though. Perhaps Maedhros met Elros briefly in death. Perhaps Maglor met Elrond briefly before Elrond left for the Grey Havens. Perhaps, when the world will be remade, or by some miracle wherein the Valar are more merciful and allow the Fourth Age to see the Kinslayers re-embodied, they may have a reunion.
One thing is for certain, in Tolkien's stories, when people love each other, no force in the world can tear them apart. They may be separated, but they will always get back to each other somehow.

Johnny Cade x Greaser!Reader
Warnings: Daddy Issues, Abandonment, Alcoholism, Loneliness, Physical Abuse, Some Adult Language, Neglect, Johnny’s Parents Fighting, Disappointment, Fluff, Angst, Bed-sharing, And Possible Grammar Errors. (Sorry If I Forgot Any!)
Summary: Y/N is the little sister of Two-Bit which means they hangout with the same friend group. Y/N is the closest with Johnny. Whenever Johnny has an incident at home he always goes to Y/N since she always knows how to make him feel better.
Song Featured: Can’t Help Falling In Love By Kacey Musgraves
Word Count: 1,459
Author’s Note: I decided to use Kacey Musgraves version of this song since it’s the reader singing the song! Definitely suggest you listen to the song if you haven’t already!
Tumblr media
Y/N is a sixteen-year-old girl who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her family are greasers which means she lives in the low-class part of Tulsa. Y/N lives with mom and older brother Two-Bit who is eighteen. Y/N’s father left when she was only three years old.
Two-Bit thinks the reason why their dad left was because he couldn’t man up and face the pressure of taking care of a family, but Y/N knows the real reason. When Y/N was twelve she found her dad’s old journal and he wrote in the journal that he never wanted any children especially a daughter. When Y/N told her mom about it she told her not to worry or take it personal because when her father wrote that he was drunk, and it was after they had an argument about the financial issues the family were going through at the time.
Two-Bit is the one who has been raising Y/N since their father left. Since their mom works two jobs she’s not home very often. After their father abandoned them Two-Bit became the man of the house. He turned into more of a father figure to Y/N than a big brother.
Y/N and Two-Bit hangout with the same group of friends. Since Y/N is the only girl in the group they are very protective of her. Y/N has a bond with everyone but the person she’s the closest to is a boy named Johnny Cade. Johnny is a shy and quiet sixteen-year-old boy who come from an abusive household. His father is an alcoholic who drinks all day and all night. His father beats on him while his mother just stands back and watches.
It hurts Y/N seeing Johnny with bruises on his skin. Johnny always comes to Y/N after he has a spat with one of his parents. Y/N always knows how to calm and comfort him.
Y/N does have a crush on Johnny, but she doesn’t know how to deal with it since she’s never felt that way about a boy before. Not being able to see or talk to her mom about these feelings does make Y/N feel alone or lost.
The only downside of being the only girl in a friend group is when it comes to girl talk, there is no one to talk to. As much as she loves her big brother, telling him she has a crush on a boy isn’t the easiest thing in the world for a girl.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
It was nighttime and Y/N was sleeping in her twin sized bed when she heard a tapping noise from her window which woke her up. When Y/N slowly opened her eyes, she read her alarm clock. It was twelve after one in the morning.
“Y/N!” She heard a voice say outside her window. “Johnny.” Y/N whispered immediately recognizing the voice. Y/N quickly got out of bed and turned her bedroom light on. She saw Johnny standing outside her window in the rain.
She opened her window and helped Johnny climb into her room. “Johnny, what the hell are you doing out in the rain?” Y/N asked him with concern in her voice as she closed her window. “I was trying to sleep in my room, but my parents were having a screaming match, so I snuck out and went to the lot, but it started to rain, so I decided to just come here.” Johnny explained to her.
This isn’t the first time that Johnny has spent the night due to his parents.
“Aww Johnny! You’re shivering.” Y/N said seeing him shake because his clothes were drenched. “I’ll be right back.” Y/N told him and walked out of her room. She went to the living room and went into the closet. She got a pair of Two-Bit’s old pajama pants he grew out of and one of his old t-shirts he also grew out of. After closing the closet, she went into the bathroom to get a clean and dry towel out of the cabinet. Y/N walked back to her room.
She handed Johnny the towel so he could dry himself off. “After you finish drying off you can change into this. They used to be Two-Bit’s but he grew out of them.” Y/N told him setting the clothes down onto her bed. Johnny gave her a nod as he used the towel to dry off his raven-colored hair. “While you change, I’ll go make you some hot tea.” Y/N told him and walked out of her room again.
She went into the kitchen and started to make some lemon tea. She made sure she was as quiet as possible since she didn’t want to wake up Two-Bit and her mom. It took her about ten minuets to make the tea. Y/N walked back to her room holding a mug in her hands.
When she walked back into her room Johnny was wearing the clothes she gave him while his wet clothes were in a pile on the floor in the corner. He put the towel into Y/N’s hamper. Johnny was sitting on the edge of her bed. Y/N closed her door and walked over to him.
“Here, this should help you warm up, too.” Y/N said carefully handing him the mug. “Thank you.” Johnny said in a soft tone. He blew on the liquid before carefully taking a sip. “You’re welcome.” Y/N said sitting down next to him.
There was a comfortable silence between the two while Johnny drank his tea.
“What were your parents fighting about?” Y/N asked breaking the silence. “I don’t exactly know.” Johnny said with a heavy sigh. “I just know that my dad was drunk off his ass like usual.” Johnny told her and took another sip of his tea.
“Y/N, I really appreciate you letting me stay here.” Johnny said looking over at her. “It’s no problem, Johnnycakes. You’re always welcomed here.” Y/N told him with a comforting smile. Johnny returned the smile. Johnny doesn’t smile often but it seems when he’s with Y/N, that’s when he smiles the most.
After Johnny finished drinking the tea, Y/N and him laid down in her bed ready to go to sleep. “Hey, Y/N.” Johnny said in a soft voice. “What’s up?” Y/N asked him in a curious tone. “Can you sing to me?” Johnny asked her. Everyone knows that Y/N has a beautiful singing voice and when Johnny hears her sing it always calms him and makes him feel relaxed. “Of course.” Y/N told him.
She wrapped one of her arms around his shoulders. Y/N felt her heart skip a beat when she felt Johnny wrap one of his arms around her torso.
“Wise men say, only fools rush in. But I can’t help falling in love with you.” Y/N sang in a soft tone. She decided to sing her favorite love song. “Shall I say? Would it be a sin? If I can’t help falling in love with you.” Y/N sang as she lightly rubbed Johnny’s shoulder. “Like a river flows, surely to the sea, darling so it goes, somethings are meant to be.” Y/N sang the chorus of the song.
She went to sing the rest of the song but stopped when she noticed that Johnny had fallen asleep. Y/N lips turned up into a soft smile. She gave him a light kiss on the forehead. “Good night, Johnnycakes.” Y/N said in a soft voice.
She laid down fully and wrapped both of her arms around his waist. She laid her head on top of Johnny’s chest and fell asleep.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
It was now morning and Two-Bit decided to get up early to cook breakfast for his mom and Y/N. He knew his mom had to be at her first job at eight, so he made sure that she had time to eat. After she ate, she thanked her son and told him to give Y/N a kiss from her. After his mom left Two-Bit made breakfast for Y/N. He put the food on a plate and sat it down into the table. Two-Bit walked to Y/N’s bedroom.
He used his knuckles to lightly knock on the door. “Hey Y/N I made you some break-” Two-Bit said opening the door but he stopped his sentence when he saw Johnny. They were in the same position they were in when Y/N fell asleep. Two-Bit could help but smile at the sleeping position.
Two-Bit knows that his little sister and Johnny have big crushes on one another. Hell, everyone in the whole group knows that Y/N and Johnny are perfect for one another.
Two-Bit quietly shut the door. He went back to the kitchen and made some more food for Johnny since he always makes sure that Johnny eats after spending the night.

Things that went through my mind while watching this episode: --Gotouge must had been in A Mood when writing these chapters, and the animators were probably like, "sweeeet! I love weeks like this!" with those silly and simple scenes of Tanjiro Being a Dork feat. Kotetsu, feat. Kotetsu/Haganezuka/Kanamori, feat. Genya, feat. Nezuko, feat. Nezuko/Muichiro.
--but then partway through they probably dragged themselves back to more detailed serious work like Hantengu dragging himself to work. Sniffle, sniffle, fine, they expect so much out of us, fine, here's all the bone and muscle fibers of Karaku taking shape from a head still falling through the air.
--Speaking of animation details--the glow on Muichiro's eyes as he runs through the dark forest? Nice. So nice to see him using a sword modeled after the one which his "ancestor" used, even if he did steal it off a doll modeled off his "ancestor." (Side note--wouldn't it be fun to see the Tokitou twins with inherited memories?)
--Also, I am pretty forgiving of the CG fish (of anything, I was impressed). They didn't totally meld with the 2D environment, but for what Gotouge gave them to work with, they moved them around in a pretty satisfyingly believable way.
--So anyway, back to this first round of Tanjiro being a dork, I love the range of emotion we get him in this episode, when he gets to relax and just be a teenage boy. SWORD, COOL!! I can has it? I no can has it. Panic-and-protect-the-child mode. Haganezuka-san was working hard for meeee? Panic-and-protect-the-child mode. Haganezuka-san said not to peek. You think I can go peek? Friendship senbei! Tooth. I'll bet I can figure out how to braid Nezuko's hair like Kanroji-san's! Zzzzz. Oh, hahaha, Tokitou-kun, surely you'd never attack me in my sleep! Now I can go peek on Haganezuka-san like I was totally going to anyway even though he told me not to. Hmmmm. Oh, wait, what, that's a demon, nevermind--
--It's just so nice seeing him be some annoying random guy sometimes instead of just The Eldest Son.
--So, Haganezuka-san. It's not just that he was physically training himself to smith a better sword for Tanjiro, but he in fact had already made a new one, but he didn't feel it was good enough. Perhaps he spent some of those nasty letters in his initial outrage at seeing the chipped sword, but then after being scolded for making something that would chip so bad in the first place, he felt dissatisfied with the sword he tried to make better, and maybe some of those "I have no sword for you" letters were just a way of expressing "I suck at this (because I am a perfectionist)"?
--More Haganezuka-san: He was essentially raised by Tecchin because his parents couldn't handle his fits when he was a child (which is very, very sad), but he practices a sword polishing technique that has been handed down through the Haganezuka family (and in real life, sword polishing is recognized as a skill totally separate from smithing (though smithing does involve some preliminary polishing stages), so I love that a later Taisho Secret shows him doing finger push-ups because yeah, he's gonna need those fingers ready for a lot of the detail work in the polishing process). While I would also love to see "inherited memories" explored more in Haganezuka, this more likely means that he learned from the father who essentially abandoned him. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in that workshop.
--But also... this three day polishing process which has killed people for how extreme it is. Tanjiro, if he says not to bother him, please, don't both him. Have you learned nothing about the risks of upsetting Haganezuka-san? And this is of course not endearing you to Genya, who at this point still has every reason to find you annoying. You keep giving him reasons to dislike you, too.
--Classic Muichiro-Nezuko Head Tilt
--I wonder if Kotetsu lured Nezuko away with toys so that she wouldn't interfere with Kotetsu nearly killing her brother
--But also, mad respect to Kotetsu, he really was doing his best against that fish
--Might I just say, that little gasp Muichiro has when he remembers Tanjiro's words? So elegantly subtle in the sound design. --Interesting that Gyokko does not appreciate the flesh of the swordsmiths, even though eating strong people would presumably be nutritious. Hard to digest? Maybe not as nutritious as a Breath-using Pillar? But also, what with "Kakushaku-no-Ko" culture among those who use fire, perhaps all their work with fire (which demons show a distinct dislike of), or more directly with the metal of Nichirin blades is part of what makes them distasteful?
--My favorite Hantengu form is his basic sniveling "woe is me, I'm so weak" old dude form, because it's so ironic. He is the Zenitsu of demons.
--And bam, we already have his full set of four! That didn't take long at all. Also, Tanjiro is now back in The Eldest Son mode and Nezuko is in oh-yeah-she-is-A-DEMON mode, that didn't take long either. Oh, and Genya has already sustained what should be a fatal injury. That also did not take long.

Toki Reads Shonen Jump 2024, Issue #49
Tumblr media
HxH: Hisoka claims that because he's not into bestiality, his tastes are normal - this is patently false; the Phantom Troupe inches towards conflict with the Heil-Ly. With any luck, we'll get a Nen battle, haven't seen one of those in a while
Yozakura Family: It turns out that the Yozakura's already planned for the possibility of the twins defying orders, and help them to reach Asa's ship; Hifumi's Infinity manages to stave off Asa's attacks, proving that she's capable of defending herself and Alpha. I'm glad to know that the family has faith in the kids, and that they aren't just going to take a backseat for the rest of the finale
Undead Undead: Billy mansplains the concept of war crimes to War; Julia womansplains the concept of souls to Soul and stabs Andy in the head to bring back Victor. The narrow-mindedness of the Rules contrasts the freedom of the Negators; while I'm sad that we cut away from Feng, it's very exciting to see Julia bringing back Victor while mirroring Fuuko's actions from 210 chapters ago wait...210...LIKE HOW LONG SHE WENT WITHOUT SEEING ANDY???)
Roboco: Roboco makes a movie that subtly implicates her and the rest of her town as accomplices in some kind of criminal activity. Honestly, I'm more interested in what crime she apparently committed than the film itself
Sakamoto: Sakamoto inadvertently teaches Torres how amazing everyday life is; Shin convinces Tenkyu that he's the fortune teller, but immediately abandons the plan to manipulate him when he learns that Tenkyu wants to kidnap Sakamoto's family. The bit with Torres was very fun and cute, and I'm interested to see how the bit with Tenkyu turns out, though I'm wondering why it was necessary to trick him if it was going to be overturned so quickly?
Elusive Samurai: Mima sends her dad letters explaining the deviant sexual acts that Tokiyuki totally makes her do; after a couple year timeskip, Sadamune and Tokiyuki meet for their final battle. Matsui keeps teasing that Tokiyuki is going to marry Mima and have Shizuku and Ayako as concubines, but no one seems to be even a little onboard with this plan, and Tokiyuki doesn't even seem to be aware of it!; speaking of being unaware, apparently Tokiyuki views Sadamune as a father-figure? I may need to reread to catch that nuance
Blue Box: Taiki cheers up a heartbroken Kyo with some food. A heartwarming display of friendship; gives a small analysis on risk-taking - if Kyo had been proactive with Moriya, he would have had a chance, but it's against his nature to do so, so he would have been misrepresenting himself
Akane-Banashi: Issho's backstory is further revealed, being a rich boy who left his family to pursue his own fortune; when a well-respected rakugo-ka saves him from a yakuza, Issho's lifelong journey finally begins. The discussion about passion, that Issho tried to become a soba chef out of gratitude and obligation rather than love for the art, resonates as advice to actively seek happiness in life
Kill Blue: Juzo gets, like, crazy into PreCure and reenacts the diner scene from Pulp Fiction by quoting it instead of the Bible. I am left to wonder if this is just a gag or foreshadowing that his mind is being more heavily affected by the de-aging
Nue's Exorcist: Fujino is distraught that Gakuro has come to save her because it gives her hope that he loves her like she loves him, even though she knows that he would go out of his way to save anyone regardless. "Of course [she's worth it]! Obviously" is a pretty romantic line, so I'll be surprised if she's not endgame; however, if she IS endgame, then it's weird that she's going second and preceding Kazusa; if Kawae gives us canon polyamory and commits to it, I swear right now I'll reread the whole series and actively try to love it
Kagurabachi: Everyone shows the resolve to sacrifice themselves for Samura, and Hakuri is able to summon his Enchanted Blade, Tobimune, for him. Self-sacrifice seems to be the theme of this arc, I expect that will play into how one of the Enchanted Blades gets transferred to the Hishaku
Chojo: Omega Inukai spreads a Chojo-loving zombie virus through all of Chinjuku; everything is returned to normal with a tea party. This did not turn out to be the sudden climactic finale that some folks thought it would be
Astro Royale: Sou exposits on her past with Himuro, framing obvious and horrific police brutality as heroic and beautiful in the context of her flashback; Terasu wins the fight by waiting out Sou self-destructing. Terasu was perfectly useless here, I'd really have preferred he actually fight; I really hope that Himuro's police brutality isn't actually meant to be endearing, cus that framing really makes it look like it's supposed to be
Murakami: Murakami calls out Sanmoto Gorozaemon for his vague goal-setting in generically "conquering the world" and his shallow definition of good and evil. Considering that this is supposedly the strongest Yokai, I'm very unclear of where this story can go from here
Kiyoshi: Sakaki gets a middling roll on Sting, forcing him to fight Yuda with an umbrella to surprisingly competent effect; the chuunibyou from last week accidentally summons the Great Demon Lord. This could easily just be the introduction of the main antagonist, but it's always scary when such a big enemy shows up before the 20-chapter mark
Hima-Ten: While helping Kanna move into her new apartment, Tenichi discovers her dark secret - she has a fetish for butlers; the implications of this are completely lost on Tenichi. Honestly, Kanna is the most compelling of the love interests so far, particularly because she's both clearly an active character AND conflicted about whether she should chase her usual instincts and pursue Tenichi when he's already interested in someone else
Ichi the Witch: When Desscaras and Kumugi fail to match Hisame's fashion sense, Ichi comes to the logical conclusion that the only answer is vore. While I'm sad that Kumugi isn't the star of this arc as I predicted, Ichi's out-of-the-box thinking is exactly what I was hoping for from this series, so I'm excited to see what he comes up with
Shinobi Undercover: Miyake, codename Tsubame, is revealed to be the underling to an even tougher fugitive ninja, Hachikuma; it's also revealed that Aoi's family was killed by a ninja. Yodaka's fear that Aoi will hate him if she finds out he's a ninja is an interesting wrinkle, but I do have to wonder if she actually KNOWS anything about ninjas in the first place
Hakutaku: When Zenji refuses to join the dev team, Noto very openly stalks him home; Hikuma, lacking in athletic ability, wanders in their general direction until he happens upon Zenji's sister, Mizuki; Zenji's sad backstory about his dead brother is revealed; a bitter woman bans children in a PUBLIC PARK from playing games that involve balls, so Hikuma resolves to make a game that she can't object to. I feel like I'd be more compelled by this if I understood why this woman has any say or power here, but at least we should get a clearer idea of Hikuma's design sense with this ball-less dodgeball game
Ruri Dragon: Ruri has a heart-to-heart with Kamata, the girl who bullied her, and Kamata cites her lack understanding of Ruri as a major point in her behavior; in particular, the idea that she's the child of bestiality strongly unsettles her. A nice, if unrealistic, little bit of catharsis for resolving tension with a bully; the student council wearing horns was adorable
If I had a nickel for every time they said the word "bestiality" in this week's Jump...technically I'd only have one nickel, since Ruri Dragon runs in Jump+
That actually brings up a question: do y'all think I should keep including Ruri in these reviews? It's from Jump originally, but it moved to + due to the author's health; is it too far removed to include, or too closely related to exclude?

Romeo & Juliet [Part 1]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jacob Black x OC!Swan
Word Count: 1953
Part 2 Part 3, Part 4
Sloan Swan detested the assigned reading she was given. It bothers her that the widely accepted portrayal of Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet It was a narrative of blind lust for a stranger rather than an epic love story of two tragic lovers torn apart by their warring families.
“They loved each other.” Bella, her twin sister, argued as she drove them to school. In contrast to Sloan, Bella was enamored with the notion of love and disregarded the glaring red warning signs it left in its wake. Romeo’s lovely, meaningless words blinded her, just like they did so many others.
She criticized, “Romeo was literally ‘in love’ with Juliet’s cousin, Rosaline, and when she didn’t return his feeling, he went looking elsewhere. When he tells his friends about his ‘feelings’ for Juliet, they assume he’s talking about Rosaline.”
“That’s not true.” Her sister shakes her head in disbelief.
Sloan ruffles through her backpack, searching for the school’s copy of the play and flipping through the tagged pages.
“Page 32 to 33. Benvolio says to Romeo, ‘At this same ancient feast of Capulet’s, Sups the fair Rosaline whom thou so loves,’ and later in the same page Romeo replies, ‘One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun, Ne’er saw her match since first the world begun.’ Romeo meets Juliet around page 53. Do I need to read more?”
Bella remained quiet as her perception of Romeo and Juliet was uprooted. The heartbreaking reality was silently placed in front of her, bursting a love she had equated her and Edwards to and a raging loathing emerged for her twin sister.
“And not to mention, Romeo only married Juliet to sleep with her. That’s not love.”
Bella gritted her teeth. “What do you know about love?”
“More than you, apparently.” She shot back. It was true she never had a boyfriend, but she was born with logic, and she’d be damned to ignore red flags when she saw them.
“Why do you hate love stories?”
“I don’t hate love stories.” Sloan clarified, “I hate toxic relationships disguised as love stories. There’s a difference.”
Juliet was a naive girl with rose petal shades shielding her from the truth. She was in love with the idea of love and fallen for the first boy to entice her. Her false sense of love drove her to follow him in death. Her end was tragic as she never once felt true love, only the lust of a boy impatient to bed her.
“I pity Juliet. Romeo used her and would’ve abandoned her when a new beauty caught his eye.” She sniffled out a yawn. “He plucked her from the sky and clipped her wings, locking her in a golden cage, and once he got bored of her song, he freed her but left her flightless. That would’ve been the ending of their story if they had lived.”
Bella remained silent, reeling in her fragmented view on Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, her hatred for her sister burning twice as much. The silhouette of the school could not appear fast enough as Bella hurriedly searched for a parking spot.
Her arms trembling as she parked her truck, unable to comprehend Sloan’s point of view on her favorite Shakespeare play, and needed some space to clear her mind. Sloan had zipped her backpack up; infuriating Bella. How can Sloan act as if she hadn’t disrupted her entire world. She slams her door shut as she frantically searches for Edward, her lifeline.
“Wherefore art thou, Bella? Sloan?” Mike calls out as he, Eric, Angela, and Jessica approach the two twins. “You finish the Shakespeare assignment?”
Jessica pitched in, “He means will you finish his assignment?”
“No, I don’t—okay I do.” He admits.
“I can help you with it — but first —” She pulls out her new camera, a birthday gift from her father that she was gifted earlier today. “I need a picture. My mom’s expecting a scrapbook full of memories.”
Angela holds out her own camera and says, “I take ‘em; I don’t pose for ‘em.”
“You do today.” Bella lightly pushed Angela towards the rest of the group as they arranged themselves.
“I can take the picture, Bella,” Sloan says while holding out a hand. “Go stand with your friends.” Bella reluctantly hands it over before awkwardly walking towards them as the group rearrange themselves for Bella to be in the center.
“You’ll photoshop my nose if it looks big, right?” The question was aimed at Bella.
“Don’t worry, I’m in the picture; no one will be looking at you guys.” Eric proclaimed confidently.
Jessica scoffs at his joke as the group decided on their final poses. Angela, incorporating her love for photography, points the camera at Sloan; Mike and Eric joust, and Bella stands in the center of their delightfully carefree selves stiffly. The clicks of the camera shutters as it freezes them in a moment in time and archives it forever.
Sloan lowers the camera before noticing their playful smiles dissipates except for Bella’s. The timid smile she faked grew into a real one as she had obviously spotted Edward, her boyfriend.
Although her friends did not mind the male, they did not appreciate how quickly she discarded them for him. When Bella and Edward started dating, they became placeholders for when he wasn’t around.
“Oh good. Cullen’s here.” Mike noticed the way Edward stared at Bella; it was not out of love but something more nefarious. At first, he chalked it up to jealously. His feelings for Bella were still ever-present, but he genuinely cared for her well-being. He believed, with all that he’s seen, that Edward did not love Bella the way she loves him. It was only a matter of time before he hurt her, and he prayed to be wrong for her sake.
Jessica’s response was even drier. “Yay.” Once upon a time, she had feelings for Edward, but the second he became unavailable, she pushed those feelings aside. Bella was her friend, even if she didn’t act like it most of the time, and she would never stand in the way of her friend’s happiness. However, she had noticed Bella’s co-dependency on Edward, following him around like a lost puppy craving his attention. It wasn’t healthy. Not one bit, but she had no right to say anything.
Sloan, too, did not like the relationship her sister had with Edward. Edward had stripped Bella away from her independent lifestyle. There was never a moment away from Edward. Bella would choose him over everyone, and the realization of this truth stung. She missed the days when the two of them would read together; although both were silent during this time, the conversations that happened afterwards were fun. Those days were gone, now filled with an empty chair and an untouched book, and Sloan having no one to talk to. She never thought she would become familiar with loneliness.
“Check ya, later.” Eric replied, sensing the uncomfortable atmosphere, and lead his friends away.
Bella hadn’t responded, nor did she notice; her attention solely remained on Edward, who approached her figure, his eyes never leaving hers. This was the moment when Sloan decided to leave, her absence going unnoticed by both her twin and the vampire. She preferred to be in her English class going over Romeo and Juliet than forced to watch her sister pine about her boyfriend.
From across the parking lot, someone shouted. “Sloan!” She turned her attention to the person, Jacob Black, her friend from the nearby reservation. His presence brought a smile onto her face as her worries vanished in an instant.
“Jake!” Her excitement could not be contained. It has been a while since the two of them hung out; both busy with school work and other responsibilities. “You grew.” She noticed. His muscles were more refined than the last time she saw him, he was now a head taller than her.
He laughed, “And you didn’t.” Now he can hold the television control over her head like she had done to him in their childhood. Sweet, sweet revenge.
She pouted, “Not my fault I’m bite-sized.” By no means was she short, not was she unusually tall. She was average, yet compared to the massive monster known as Jacob, it would appear so.
His glee was energizing, her thoughts on Edward and Bella fading into the foreground of her mind, acting as a life jacket keeping her from drowning in her thoughts and worries.
“Happy birthday.” He offers her a warm hug before reaching into his pocket, pulling out a small hand-woven bracelet. “It’s not much, I know, but.” He drops it in the palm of her hand, eyeing the marvel embedded in her chestnut eyes. “I hope you like it.”
“I love it!” She exclaimed, “You didn’t have to get me anything.” It was a thoughtful gift—something she’ll treasure forever. She quickly slips it on and makes a silent vow to never take it off. She won’t, however, except when she bathes or swims. She does not want his hard work to be ruined by water.
“I’m glad you like it.” He looks around for the other birthday girl, seeing her in a quiet conversation with her boyfriend. “I’m going to give your sister her gift.”
Sloan nods. Class is going to start soon, and she needed to get to class. “Bye Jacob.”
“Bye.” He rushed towards her sister, yelling her name to get her attention, managing to break up the couple for a few moments.
~~~
Bella quietly dropped off her sister at home before rushing away to her boyfriend’s house. Apparently, his family were throwing her a small party for their family only—the Cullens and the birthday girl—and no one else. Leaving Sloan and her father to celebrate the twins birthday alone.
The two didn’t plan much but it was just right for them. Both Bella and Sloan weren’t the party type, they preferred the quiet hums of their home, a homemade dinner with their father, and a hushed evening filled with television and soft conversation.
Sloan spent the day prepping for their meal, spicy honey garlic chicken with garlic Parmesan fries. It was a favorite she and her father shared. Bella’s absence remained a constant in their conversations. They spent their evening watching her favorite movies: Legally Blonde, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Charlie loved the days when he and his daughters would sit together and watch TV. Bella would hide under the covers whenever a horror sequence became too much, opting to stay under until the danger passed. Sloan would mindlessly make comments under her breath throughout the movie, only audible to the person sitting next to her. He enjoyed days like this, as they were a small snippet of the past, his daughters reminding him of their younger selves, and now they were all grown up.
Wrapped up in one of her blankets, she laid her head on her father’s shoulders, her eyes drooping. It was late, and Bella still hadn’t arrived. Their birthday was already over and not a single second of the three of them had celebrated as a family. It truly broke her heart.
She didn’t know when, but her father carried her to her bedroom and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before tucking her in. He was going to miss moments like this. His children are adults now, and soon they will be leaving the nest. He never prepared himself for this day, always believing he had more time with them, but he guessed every parent came to the same realization when the time finally arrived.
David Lynch, Twin Peaks Creator and Mulholland Drive Director, Dies at 78: 'There's a Big Hole in the World'
The director was a four-time Oscar nominee By Victoria Edel Published on January 16, 2025 @ 01:28PM EST
David Lynch has died at the age of 78, his family announced on Thursday, Jan. 16.
"It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch.  We would appreciate some privacy at this time," read a message on Facebook. "There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, 'Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.' "
"It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way," they added.
Lynch, who would have turned 79 this Monday, Jan. 20, was best known for creating the 1990 TV series Twin Peaks. The show spawned a 1992 feature film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and a 2017 revival season. A four-time Oscar nominee, he also directed films including The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive. He was known for his distinctive style that became described as “Lynchian.”
Lynch was born in Missoula, Mont., in 1946 and grew up in Spokane, Wash., and Boise, Idaho. His father was a forest research scientist, and Lynch spent much of his childhood outside, exploring. Those same mysterious Pacific Northwest woods would eventually inspire Twin Peaks.
When he was a teenager, the family moved to Alexandria, Va. He had "a kind of happy persona” there, he told PEOPLE in 1990, but soon learned “all the thrilling things happened just after school or between classes. It added up to some sort of pitiful joke — so constricting it would drive you nuts. It inspired me to try to break rules. Behind it all, I was getting it together to be a painter.”
Lynch went to Philadelphia to study art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and there he began experimenting with film and animation. "I loved Philadelphia," he said in 1990. "The most corrupt, fear-ridden city I've ever seen. It's one of my major film influences."
In 1975, he released The Grandmother, a 35-minute blent of live-action and animation about a lonely boy whose dead grandmother comes back to life. It earned him a spot in the American Film Institute's Center for Advanced Film Studies in L.A. He spent the next five years working on his feature debut, 1977’s Eraserhead. To support himself, he held a series of odd jobs, including a paper route.
"$9.80 a night was not a thrilling rate, so I was pretty depressed," he said in 1990. "But I worked it to where I was shooting the route in one hour, almost to the second — a totally efficient hour. You learn to fold, bag and drive at the same time."
"I got an awful lot of pressure to abandon Eraserhead and do something worthwhile," he added. "I just couldn't. It was frustrating, but also beautiful." Eraserhead had a small opening, but gained interest as a midnight movie and ultimately became a cult favorite. One fan was Mel Brooks, who hired Lynch to create a film about Joseph Merrick. That movie, 1980’s The Elephant Man was a hit and garnered eight Oscar nominations, including best director and best adapted screenplay for Lynch.
Next he directed an adaptation of Dune, released in 1984. It received mostly negative reviews upon it release, though it went on to be a cult favorite. “It was a heartache for me. It was a failure, and I didn’t have final cut,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2020. “I’ve told this story a billion times. It’s not the film I wanted to make. I like certain parts of it very much — but it was a total failure for me."
He released Blue Velvet, starring Isabella Rossellini, in 1986. The erotic thriller was criticized by some for being too violent, but he received a second Oscar nomination for best director. "When people first meet David, they expect him to be neurotic and crazy and sick, but he's not," Rossellini, who was romantically involved with Lynch at the time, told PEOPLE in 1990. “It's just that he looks at life in a different way.” He said of his creative inclinations, “I'm in love with ideas, and I'm out there trying to catch them.”
His next major film was 1990's Wild at Heart, starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern, who had also appeared in Blue Velvet. She told PEOPLE in 1990, “David's greatest gift is that he sees making a movie like a trip to Disneyland." Lynch described Wild at Heart as a “violent comedy, a love story in a twisted world.” He explained, “Wild at Heart goes to extremes — it's not a film for everybody. But as shocking as some things in it are, they're based on the truth of human nature, and there's a lot of humor and love wrapped up in that.”
Twin Peaks also premiered that same year. "Working at this speed is unusually intense, but I really like it," the director told PEOPLE. “It gets kind of crazy.” The mystery TV series reunited him with Dune and Blue Velvet star Kyle MacLachlan.
Set in the titular, fictional Washington town, Twin Peaks explored the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), though the surreal series came to mean so much more to fans. Not that Lynch was forthcoming about any of the ideas he intentionally incorporated into his work. "I never talk about themes," he said in 1990. "No way. A film should stand on its own. People talk way too much about a film up front, and that diminishes it."
MacLachlan praised Lynch as “a sound, mood and rhythm director. David hasn't forgotten the images, fears and desires you have when you're 10 or 18 or 25. They're so pure, these images, that they have a lot of impact.”
"I like things that go into hidden, mysterious places, places I want to explore that are very disturbing," Lynch said. "In that disturbing thing, there is sometimes tremendous poetry and truth." The combination of violence, surrealism, mysticism and blue-collar life would come to define the “Lynchian” aesthetic.
Twin Peaks aired for two seasons on ABC. It was an instant success when it premiered; PEOPLE included Laura Palmer on it annual list of most interesting people at the end of 1990. But the second season was derailed when ABC executive Bob Iger made Lynch reveal in the premiere who had killed Palmer, a mystery the director had wanted to save for the end of the series. Ratings declined, Lynch was unhappy, and the show was canceled.
In 1992, Lynch visited the story again in the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. And he returned for a third season of the series, which aired on Showtime, in 2017. “I called all the regulars — or most everyone — and I had a chat,” Lynch told Deadline in 2018 about bringing the cast back together. “These people are like family, so it was so beautiful calling them and talking to them again and getting together like for a family reunion.” He guessed that 99 percent of the surviving cast was happy to return. Dern also joined the show for the third season.
Lynch felt season three was more comparable in quality to the first than the second, which he did not like. He received nine Emmy nominations for his work on Twin Peaks.
Lynch directed four more films: 1997’s Lost Highway, 1999’s The Straight Story, 2001’s Mulholland Drive and 2006’s Inland Empire. He received his third Oscar nomination for best director (and fourth overall) for helming Mulholland Drive, which followed an aspiring actress in Los Angeles played by Naomi Watts. It was originally conceived as a TV show.
“It was a closed-ended pilot, and then the ideas came to make it into a feature,” he told Interview in 2012. “I was meditating, and all these ideas just flowed in, in one meditation — all the ideas to finish that into a feature.” In 2019, Lynch received an honorary Oscar for his contributions to film.
Lynch never gave up his early love of painting and continued to create visual art throughout his life. In 1994, he published Images, a book that featured painting, photographs and images from his films. He was also involved in several music projects, including working on the scores of several of his films.
In 2006, he published a book, Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity, about transcendental meditation, and in 2018, he published Room to Dream, which was a hybrid of memoir and biography. He directed music videos for artists like Moby, Nine Inch Nails and Donovan, as well as many commercials. He also portrayed director John Ford in Steven Spielberg's 2022 film The Fabelmans.
Lynch was married to first wife Peggy from 1967 to 1974. They shared daughter Jennifer, who also became a director. Jennifer told PEOPLE in 1990, “He was not your normal dad, but he's been the best dad he could be, and we've had a blast.”
From 1977 to 1987, he was married to Mary Fisk. They shared son Austin. From 2006 to 2007, he was married to Mary Sweeney, with whom he shared son Riley. In 2009, he married Emily Stofle, who appeared in Inland Empire and the third season of Twin Peaks. They shared daughter Lula Boginia. Stofle filed for divorce in 2023.
Looking back on his one-of-a-kind career, Lynch was mostly content. “Well, I'm sort of proud of everything except Dune,” he said in a 2020 YouTube video. "I’ve liked so much working in different mediums. It’s not a thing about pride, it’s more like the enjoyment of the doing, enjoyment of the work."
He added, "I’ve just enjoyed working in all these different mediums, and I feel, again, really lucky to have been able to enjoy those things and be able to live."
Friends and Family #03
“This is nice,” Maglor said, stretched out on a beach towel, as his dripping brother settled next to him, wet from running in the gentle waves with his adopted sons. He closed the novel he'd picked up at a second-hand store the day before.
Maedhros grunted, his mouth occupied by several bobby pins as he fixed his hair, recoiling the soaking braid atop his head. The whole point of pinning his hair up so tightly was to keep it out of the salt water, but he hadn’t expected Elros and Elrond to grab his hands and drag him down into a particularly large wave.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen them this happy,” Maglor continued, nodding to the boys splashing and paddling in the waves, their nearly shoulder-length hair hanging in loose, soaked clumps.
“They love it,” Maedhros said with a soft smile. He’d come up from that wave spitting sand and might have been irritated except he ended up with two armfuls of very excited peredhil. By the time he left the surf, he’d become much better at diving through waves.
They sat in silence for a minute, taking in the scene: seagulls cried overhead, keeping a sharp eye out for abandoned snacks; the twins played along the shore, a younger elf child coming over to join them; other families staked out their claim across the sand, leaving towels and umbrellas to mark their favored spots. The beach was both busy and soothing.
“We should do this more.” Maedhros decided, rinsing his mouth out with water from a bottle and then taking several drinks.
Maglor raised his eyebrows. Fëanor nearly had a fit when they announced that they’d be taking a few days off work during the week so they could do something with the boys during their school holiday. “Who’s going to tell father?”
His brother rolled his eyes in a way that would have had Fëanor pinching his ear if he were an elfling again. “He can take his doctor's advice and take up birdwatching,” He said dismissively.
As the eldest sons, they were privy to more details of their father's health than he appreciated.
Maglor snorted at the suggestion.
More seriously, Maedhros said, “Maybe just an occasional weekend, then.”
They watched the boys and their new friend join a group of older dwarves building an impressive sandcastle. Maglor smiled. “We really should.”
The sun arched across the clear blue sky. Maglor called Elros and Elrond back for lunch. They ate cold tuna salad sandwiches from the cooler on a blanket Maedhros spread on the sand so they could all sit together. Elros showed the adults the blue shell Elrond found in the tide, proudly telling them about the cool shells they found over the years on the coast further south. The younger twin hesitantly asked if he could make necklaces for them all from pieces of the shell when they went back to the city.
After lunch, the twins wanted to go back into the ocean.
“Not right after eating,” Maglor shook his head. “Wait thirty minutes.”
Elros looked like he might want to argue, but his brother grabbed his hand and demanded that he bury him under the sand so he could pretend to be a baby sea turtle.
Maedhros took off his shirt, arching his back and enjoying the warm sun on it. Their father really might have an aneurysm if he found out exactly how publicly immodest his sons got when he wasn’t there to frown at them for rolling up their pant legs. He repacked the cooler and sprawled out on the towel, stretching his long arms and legs and bumping into the other occupant. He grinned at his brother. “Join us this time,” He invited.
Maglor picked up his book and fingered the pages. “I'll get sand in my hair,” He said. He's done his hair up in a dark half bun, leaving a loose tail down his back.
“I'll braid it for you.” He said. “The rest of us need to wash tonight already.”
“Promise not to push me under?”
“I would never,” Maedhros laughed, recalling when, decades ago, they were teaching their younger brothers how to sail on a windy lake. Caranthir insisted that the flimsy life jackets couldn't possibly keep them safe in the waves, refusing to set foot on the light boat. When it became clear that he wouldn't trust the words of his brothers, Maedhros shoved Maglor off the edge, leaving him to flounder in the water until their three younger brothers boarded.
Maglor shuffled around so he faced away from Maedhros. “Go ahead and braid.”
The tall redhead sat up. He quickly undid the bun and set about dividing the other’s hair into four parts at the crown of his head.
They sat quietly while he worked, Maglor watching the other families.
A human woman with frizzled brown hair caught a child who looked about seven years old by the elbow. She wore a striped green and gray swimsuit with a white over-shirt and large sunglasses.
“Oh no you don’t, Elianor,” She admonished, pulling the girl back to the family’s towels and bins of beach toys. “You’re going to be red as a beat and peeling in the car tomorrow if you don’t put more sunscreen on.”
“Mom,” The girl complained as white ointment was slathered across her bare back and under the edges of her swimsuit.
“Do your face and ears,” The woman directed, squeezing more of the sunscreen out of a yellow bottle for her daughter before bending down to coat her legs.
Once everything was worked in and the white layer was exchanged for a slightly oily sheen, the child was released into the water. Once all the children were appropriately protected and freed, the woman popped open a beach chair and settled under an umbrella.
She looked over at Maglor as Maedhros began pinning the braid up like his own. “Some children never learn,” She said by way of explanation.
He said something in noncommittal agreement, a nagging thought starting to form in the back of his mind.
Her eyes flicked around their towels, blanket, and cooler. “Just the two of you then?” She asked.
“No,” Maglor said quickly. “The twins in red burying each other in the sand are ours.”
She looked out to where he pointed. “Cute,” She said in the way he was discovering many parents did when talking about other people’s kids. She leaned back in her chair and probably closed her eyes, though he couldn’t tell past the glasses.
Maedhros patted his head like he did when they were kids. “There you go, ready for the water.”
Maglor scooted around to face him again. “Don’t get my hair wet.”
Hands raised in surrender were his only response.
He looked down at his wristwatch. Twenty minutes still to go. That nagging feeling kept eating at him. He picked up the book again, opening to where he left off. He tried to read, but he couldn’t get back into the story.
All at once, he dropped the book and turned to Maedhros.
“We didn’t put sunscreen on them!”
“What?” The other asked, blinking as he came back from wherever the warmth sent him drifting off to.
“Elros and Elrond,” He said, looking over to where the boys were just a couple heads sticking out of the sand, several other kids having joined in on burying them. “They’re part human. They could get sunburns!”
He couldn’t believe he’d forgotten about it. He hadn’t packed sunscreen, he didn’t even think Maedhros or he had any at their homes. Such a simple, everyday thing for humans, and they’d completely forgotten about it. He dreaded to think about how painful the children’s skin would be tomorrow.
Maedhros frowned. “They’re part elf, too,” He reasoned. “Why should they get burned?”
“They might,” Maglor repeated with worry. “I should go buy some. Or maybe we should all leave so it doesn’t get any worse.”
Maedhros sighed. “It’ll be a thirty-minute drive each way. The damage is already done if it’s going to happen, so let’s not ruin the rest of the day. Besides,” He added. “They’ve clearly spent a lot of time in the water. I think they’d know if they need to worry about it.”
Personally, Maglor never thought it was too late to start mitigating damage, but his brother had made up his mind. He’d just have to deal with whatever came of it.
Name: Ororun Munroe
Species: Homo Surperior (clone)
Mutant Name: Wyndstorm
Affiliation: the X-Men
Height: 5 ft. 10
Personality: Ororun acts almost like a mirror to the way Ororo did before she joined the X-Men: he is a habitual free spirit but also a loner. He's not good at interacting with other people, and he can't stand staying in one place for too long. When he has to talk to others, he acts distant to the point of seeming emotionally detached from the world around him. When he's with people he is close with though, he "warms" up; he's able to express his emotions a bit better, although this causes the wind to move faster than normal. Compared to how Storm acts now however, Wyndstorm is a very insecure individual which is a part of why he keeps to himself.
Powers / Abilities: Weather Manipulation (His mastery over the wind is complete, but he has a much harder time controlling water and lightning. He cannot even begin to control other elements.)
History
Birthplace: Latveria
Family: Ororo Munroe (Genetic twin, adopted mother), Dr. Doom (creator), Kitty Pryde (adopted sister), T'challa (adopted ex step father?)
Occupation: Wanderer
History: One day Storm is just minding her bissuness when a mysterious boy with amnisea that looks just like her + has the same powers as her shows up and asks her to help him. Thinking this might be a long lost family member, she agrees and they go on a short road trip full of whacky adventures that according to Comic time would somehow take place in the span of a day I guess.
At the end of their Journey, Wyndstorm accidently guides them to Latveria, where the two get teleported into the palace by Doom. Victor then drops the bombshell that he kept a sample of Ororo's DNA from the first time she went there and he used to to clone Storm and make Wyndstorm as a "gift". Brothers and a Sister: A Backstory
It was morning on Flak’s apartment, the day after Dev was finally released from the hospital, and the wear from the task had left the aasimar man with a sink full of dishes he hadn’t had the energy to clean the previous night. Not a huge issue but a necessary chore nonetheless. Flak had always prided himself on maintaining a position as a role one could model themselves after even when nobody was around.
Only there was one issue. The damn sink. The sprayer handle would get stuck sometimes, and when the water sprayed his chest, leaving warm but rapidly cooling air on his simple night shirt, there was a long pause before a scream, a combination of pain and horror. It was enough to wake Adelaide, who had a habit of sleeping in most mornings. As the orange-red haired woman bolted around the corner, her silvery grey nightgown half falling off one shoulder, her pale yellow eyes instantly set upon the sight of her boyfriend on the ground, clutching his chest, longed blonde hair strewn about the tile floor of the kitchenette of their apartment, a panicked expression on his face and his equally pale eyes staring into space
“Oh my god, Flak.” The aasimar woman darted to his side, taking one of his hands and holding it to her chest, her heartbeat breaking him from the apparent vision he was experiencing and the horror it brought with it. Eventually his breathing slowed and his expression became one of exhaustion rather than fear as he went limp for a moment before sitting upright
“Sorry about that…” guilt in his voice.
“You don’t have to apologize for having a panic attack, dummy.” She hugged him, a deep breath of relief escaping her spirit-touched lungs. “You still planning on keeping this whole thing private or am I finally gonna learn what these are all about?”
“… yeah okay… you should probably know the whole story eventually, and I… it was vivid this time.”
“I’ll make breakfast. Take your time and go at your own pace.” He smiled at her words before standing and moving to their dinette table, taking a few more moments to slow his heart rate and catch his breath.
“So… it’s about my brother-“
“Uh, don’t you mean sister? I thought you said Dev was trans?”
“She is. This isn’t about her. Well it is but it’s not and- I need to start at the beginning for this to make any sense… you’ve heard me say the phrase “last life” sometimes, right?”
“Blue moon but yeah. You said you can remember your soul’s last cycle.”
“Exactly. It’s… not something that’s supposed to happen but I’m an exception. I’ll get into why later but for now… last life. It was in France. Couple hundred years ago. Two brothers were born on a pig farm, not twins for the record. Their names were Adrian and Laurent Dumont. And one day, their father left them, and so it was just the boys and their mother. And they all had to work hard to keep the family afloat. Adrian took pride in his work and did his best to step up where his father had stepped out, where as Laurent was resentful, thought he had been dealt a poor hand and was get he didn’t deserve to be abandoned and then forced to work so hard.
It got worse when their… when our mother got sick…” it was around this point Adelaide got the bacon on the heat, the smell quickly hitting the air. There was an awkward pause
“Oh, sorry, is that insensitive?”
“No it’s fine. Helps bring it back a bit, makes the image in my head clearer” He chuckled before continuing. “Mother got sick, we were only teenagers at the time but now all the work was ours. We had to break our backs extra hard too because she needed medicine and extra food to fight off the sickness, but it never seemed to be enough. Never enough food, never enough medicine, never enough money. And every day we didn’t have enough, Laurent got more and more resentful. I was too blind to see it though, because I had my eyes elsewhere. My head was held high for my ability to overcome, at least by my measure, the circumstances, and I was proud to take care of my family, but I also knew France was suffering.
And then whispers of a word hit my ears. Revolution”
“You were a French revolutionary?”
“… no… I’m uh. Getting to that part. The Bastille. It was going to be stormed. It wasn’t going to be clean or easy but the Revolution needed to start there because it needed the resources and the structure and the symbolism. And people all around were preparing for it in secret. Myself included. Secret from everybody… secret from my family too for that matter. Until the day I was to leave.
I looked Laurent in the face and told him what I was doing. I didn’t realize it then but it broke him. He said that things like ‘you’re going to leave us and take the horse with you just to get yourself killed’, or some other point about how what I was doing was selfish. I couldn’t see his point. To me I was trying to help make France better for everyone, us included. But… inadvertently, I broke the last shred of humanity my brother had. I turned my back to walk away, and the next thing you know, the tip of a kitchen knife is sticking out of my chest, hot blood soaking my shirt and cooling my skin as it hit the air.”
“Ah…” Adélaïde had started scrambled eggs at this point. “So that’s what set you off. Flashback.”
“Yeah… the worst part wasn’t the murder though. Not to me anyway. It was that he was stopping me from helping people… maybe that’s some stupid savior complex or something but-“
“Flak you’ve always and I mean always tried to help those in need. You’re one of the most genuinely compassionate people I know and it’s why I love you.”
“Addie…”
“Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“No it’s fine… anyway, that quality I had got me hand picked by an ancient spirit after I died. Cariel… they were something else. I should have been terrified but their energy was just so… honest, and mind, and so powerful it should have been terrifying but I wasn’t afraid. And they decided that they wanted to take me on as their subject. Said I could help people in ways I never thought I could.
You know about the war, right?”
“Be specific?”
“Nox- or rather Samael. Ethereal war over 800 years. The reason some spirits call themselves demons.”
“Ah that.”
“Well Cariel trained me to fight in it. I was their student, their soldier, and eventually their knight, and I stopped a lot of bad but I couldn’t stop everything. And even if that hurt I wouldn’t have been bothered at all, but… then he showed up.”
“Laurent?” Adelaide brought the food to the table at this point, eggs bacon and toast, the breakfast of those who are half assing but avoiding garbage.
“He was calling himself Asa by then, and I was calling myself Flak. And we wound up fighting eachother a lot. And I had my reservations but we still had to clash… between you and me I could have destroyed him a few times but I couldn’t bring myself to do it… not until I had no choice… sorta anyway.
It was a little over 30 years ago. Cariel told me they were going to be reborn. Become what’s called a Druid, a human with an ancient spirit’s power, but that when they did, I needed to actually stop Asa, and either destroy him or at least force him to have to reincarnate.”
“Damn… that’s rough. Your mentor tells you ‘I’m leaving forever kill your brother.’ Kinda fucked up.”
“Yeah… that kind of thinking got in my way. To skip over an arduous explaining of our fight, the decisive moment at the end… I got him but he also…”
“Oh fuck”
“Yeah… so I dragged his half broken soul to the river and then… I beg”
“Beg”
“I don’t wanna talk about the other ancients right now. The short version of story is that I begged for some strings to get pulled for me to have a second chance and be the brother Asa needed this time. It wasn’t easy to convince them but they let it happen. But there were conditions. I would have to keep my memories so I could know my duties… and by duties I mean two. Try to keep Asa on a good path this time, and also help protect Cariel.”
“Wait, are you saying Lee is-“
“Yeah… anyway things were,.. odd. I had to be born an aasimar so my body could manage having my memories but it’s not like being born with an adult mind. It came back in bits and pieces over the years, in flackbacks like the one I just had there… and eventually I decided to take the name Flak again but-“
“Wait I just put that together, is Flak not your real name?”
“Legally, it’s Phineas.”
“Pbbbbt. Sorry. Sorry. Just-“
“And that’s why I changed it… anyway Asa wasn’t Asa anymore, and they made sure Asa didn’t end up an aasimar like me either. But they still weren’t Dev yet… that didn’t happen until way later. Not until after Lee and after Nox and after basically everyone else in our little circle. Dev… she was starting to show signs. See, since they didn’t end up an aasimar, they can’t remember their last life, but that doesn’t mean it can’t affect you, and Laurent’s, Asa’s tendencies were starting to show. It made sense. A forced reincarnation is never clean. So we had to set up a ritual of sorts
It was a long and messy process. But eventually it worked. We purged Dev of those stains in her soul, well most of them anyway. But there’s never not consequences to rituals. And as it turns out the consequence is Asa… he’s out there somewhere, probably hurting people. And it’s my fault. Because I was too busy patting myself on the back for roughing it out I didn’t realize that the people close to me weren’t taking it in stride.”
“Flak, that’s not true. You were doing your best to survive. You had every right to be proud of yourself every day if you wanted to be.”
“I know that” Flak took a bit of bacon that caused a long pause “but still. I can’t help but feel like I failed my mission letting him get out like that… I wanna find him eventually. And I wanna try to do better for him so he can have a chance to be better.”
“You’re a Saint, you know that?”
“Nope. Just a pig farmer murdered by his brother who then turned his brother into his sister but also his brother still actually. At least I can still help guide her…”
Picture: Cindy Rodriguez-Singh, the missing child's mother and her husband [the stepfather] Arshdeep Singh, have both fled to India
The Texas mother left her Everman home and fled the country with six of her children and her husband, shortly after one of her sons, a 6-year-old with special needs, mysteriously disappeared was charged with his murder Monday - exactly a year after he was last seen alive.
Cindy Rodriguez-Singh, 38, who is holing up in India, was indicted by a Tarrant County grand jury on one count of capital murder, two counts of injury to a child and one count of abandoning a child without intent to return.
Investigators hope the indictments will help drag her back to U.S. soil, where she can face trial for allegedly killing little Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez, who endured years of abuse before his disappearance.
Noel, who has special needs, has been missing since October 2022, having last been seen alive shortly after his twin sisters were born.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Police weren't alerted to his disappearance until March, when they received a call to CPS inquiring about the boy, and found he was nowhere to be seen, when they went to check up. Rodriguez-Singh - described by police as having an extensive criminal history - fled to India just two days after they knocked on her door, along with Arshdeep Singh, Noel's stepfather, and six of his siblings. Arsheep Singh stole ten thousand dollars in cash from his job before fleeing with her and the six children.
Tumblr media
The investigation quickly transformed into a homicide case after cadaver dogs alerted police to human remains at a filthy shack the family called home in Everman, Texas. They lived on the land of a man named Charles Parson. The shed was piled with trash and included an altar to Santa Muerte, or Saint Death - a female cult figure denounced by the Catholic Church, considered by some as a patron saint to outcasts and a figure particularly popular with drug cartel members.
Tumblr media
Family members told police she would withhold food and water from Noel because she didn't like changing his diaper and would hit him if she caught him feeding himself.
When Noel vanished, she allegedly tried to explain his disappearance away by telling lies, including that he was in Mexico with his biological father, when reportedly, the biological father had never even met Noel. Another story was that he had been sold to a stranger at a local grocery store.
She was reportedly receiving financial benefits for Noel, because he was disabled, so around the time he is determined to have disappeared, she had a friend's child pose as Noel for a checkup so the benefits wouldn't be discontinued. Her children had been in foster care before, when she was found driving drunk with them in the backseat, and got in an accident. The woman who took him in still refers to him as her "son," saying she would have adopted him, but Cindy refused the offer.
Tumblr media
Picture: Noel's foster mother cries as she recounts her affection for the boy she says "mastered everything they told him he couldn't." She still has pictures and videos of Noel on her phone, and says of Cindy, "She killed him, that's why she fled. I want her brought back so she can tell us where Noel is. Where is he? What was the reason? He was a boy who didn't deserve the bad fortune she gave him. He was an innocent child."
She got them back a year later though. She gave birth to twins shortly before Noel disappeared.
Noel, who has serious disabilities including chronic lung disease and requires oxygen treatment, had stopped receiving checkups and had never been enrolled in school.
hey sorry i was thinking could you maybe do a post where you tell briefly each characters backstory from worthless. like maybe not in detail but i remember for example you answered an ask about karine's fear of hospitals and her mom (i think) and about landon too so i thought you could gather them all in a post when and if you want and have time
i hope this doesn't sound impolite i really like your story
Of course! It doesn't sound impolite at all! I've actually been meaning to do something like this for a while, so thank you for the suggestion!😊
Worthless Character Backstories
Elliot Córdova (he/him) - Elliot was abandoned when he was very little because his parents were too young to raise a child and couldn't take care of him. He grew up in the foster system and was bullied relentlessly for his height, his race, his dyslexia, etc. The bullying got so bad that he eventually started skipping meals just to avoid his bullies. This led to him becoming very malnourished, which stunted his growth. He met his best friend and honorary older sister, Lyra, when he was seven and hardly left their side ever since. He was never adopted.
Lyra Beckett (they/she) - Lyra had a very loving family growing up. They were an only child and were incredibly close to their parents. However, when she was eleven, her parents were killed in a car crash on their way to pick her up from a friend's house. She was then put into the foster system and ended up rooming with Elliot, who eventually became her best friend and honorary little brother. Lyra protected Elliot from his bullies and tutored him in most school subjects that he struggled in. They began developing vitiligo at age fifteen and tried to hide it, as they were ashamed of it. Eventually, however, Elliot convinced them to be proud of it and they never hid it again. They were never adopted.
Karine de la Peña (she/her) - Karine was raised by a single mother until she was five, when her mother was killed in a shooting. She was then raised by her grandparents, including her veteran grandmother, who taught her everything she knows about combat. When Karine was eighteen, her grandmother died and she was left with only her grandfather. After that, she developed a serious drug and alcohol problem that landed her in rehab on more than one occasion. When she was twenty-three, her grandfather got very sick, but she couldn't see him due to being in rehab. Her grandfather eventually recovered and Karine swore that she would never find herself giving into her addiction again, and she has stayed true to that ever since. She is still very close with her grandfather.
Yvonne Freed (she/her) - Yvonne is one of six siblings, three girls and three boys. She is the second oldest, after her older sister, whom helped her raise their four youngest siblings. Yvonne's parents worked incredibly hard in order to provide for the family of eight, but were not home very often, which left Yvonne and her older sister to care for the younger four. Yvonne was bullied severely, growing up, both for being autistic and for her albinism. She quit school when she was sixteen in order to care for her siblings, but still had an affinity for learning and would teach herself whatever she could in her free time.
Broderick Abara (he/him) - Broderick is the oldest of three. His younger brothers are twins that were born when Broderick was twelve. Broderick's father was a military veteran that always wanted Broderick to follow in his footsteps, despite Broderick's desire to go to medical school. To compromise, when he came of age, Broderick went to Afghanistan to serve as a military medic, but was gravely injured on duty. Due to his post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI), he was honorably discharged from the military and sent back home. His father was furious about it and insisted that he would've rather that Broderick had died than be sent back before his service was completed. Broderick then moved out of the United States and has not spoken to his father since. (His mother also divorced his father and took custody of the twins)
Landon Copeland (he/him) - Of every "Worthless" character, Landon's life was the easiest and least traumatic, including compared to his sister's. Landon grew up in a loving family in a nice neighborhood. He went to a good school, was never bullied, and has always had a very close relationship with his little sister. He played many different sports all throughout his childhood and got into university on a basketball scholarship. The hardest thing that ever happened to him was when his parents got a divorce when he was fourteen, but he always maintained a fairly good relationship with both of them.
Colleen Copeland (she/her) - (MASSIVE TW - attempted suicide) Colleen is three years younger than her brother, Landon. Just like Landon, Colleen had a relatively normal childhood until she was fifteen. She had a loving family, a very close relationship with her brother, and a close-knit group of friends. Her parents got divorced when she was eleven, which didn't bother her much, as she had never had a great relationship with her mother. When Colleen was fifteen, she began to develop serious anxiety and depression. Her brother and father did everything they could to support her, but her mother brushed it off as attention-seeking behavior. Once Landon had gone off to university, Colleen's depression continued to worsen until it got to the point where she tried to take her own life at the age of sixteen. After hearing the news, Landon quit university in order to help Colleen through the rest of her high school years. Once she turned eighteen, Landon went back to university with her, where Colleen eventually met her future (ex) husband, Andrey, whom she'd end up having two kids with; Kiernan (age 7) and Jamari (age 5)
So yeah! Those are every character's backstories! Except for Christian, of course, because I just don't feel like he needs a backstory. Nothing happened to him that turned him into a whumper, he just is that way. The only reason I might create a backstory for him is to flesh out his character a little bit more, but he hasn't been in the story nearly enough for that to be necessary, so he's just gonna stay without for now.🤷
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed getting to know my characters a little better! I'm very proud of them, and I promise, their backstories will all come into play at some point in the main story! Thanks so much for the ask!🥰
Spring Curse
Joongdok Modern AU - Mentioned OD (Oldest Dream)
CW: dead dove, suicidal thoughts, domestic violence, death
Loosely based on 春の呪い by Konishi Asuka
Kim Dokja had never liked spring.
The weather was cold, flowers were blooming, his allergies got worse, and the first school term started. Nothing about it was good. Today was another reason that Kim Dokja hated spring.
“Poor boy, he is just 20 years old.”
“The family spent a lot of money treating him right?”
“Hey, where is the mother? Tsk, not coming to even her own son’s funeral…”
“The older brother looked completely fine to me. I thought they were close?”
That’s right. Today was the funeral of his twin younger brother - od. Kim Dokja couldn’t describe how much he treasured his brother. The boy was the sole reason why he kept living and breathing, everything he did was for his brother’s sake. Kim Dokja started writing because his brother liked reading. Kim Dokja went to college because OD told him to go in his stead. Kim Dokja dropped out of college to take care of him when no one in the family paid them any mind. His life had always been revolving around his brother ever since he was born.
When their abusive father hit them, the only thought in his mind was how to protect his little brother. When their mother left them for another man, he tried his best to make sure that OD didn’t feel abandoned. When the diagnosis result came, he started to take up more part-time jobs to pay for the treatment fee because he didn’t want to owe his father anything.
Now that OD was gone, he didn’t know what to do. His whole existence was based on the boy with him doing everything just for the sake of his brother’s happiness. He dedicated his life to taking care of OD, making sure that nothing could hurt his little body. But when the sole reason why he managed to survive in this cursed world disappear, he was completely lost.
At first, Kim Dokja felt absolute anguish. He cursed the gods for taking his brother away, destroying every single last bit of effort he had built up until now. He loathed the people who were still alive and kicking when OD had to pass away at such a young age, not being able to experience what he would like to do. But slowly, he started to feel nothing. It was as if all of his senses were nulled and he reverted back to the days when he silently endured his father’s beatings, his little brother hiding in the closet. His mind went blank, not a single thought recurring in his head. Everything he did feel meaningless.
Kim Dokja was staring mindlessly at the casket where OD lay when he noticed people gathering around it. The moment they were about to close the lid, Kim Dokja heard himself talking for the first time in a few days:
“Please, let me see my brother for the last time.”
He rushed to OD’s side, quickly pulling a picture out of his pocket. Then he placed that picture into the casket before giving his brother a final look. The boy was smiling as if he had a nice dream, a dream where Kim Dokja was not present.
Kim Dokja remembered the words his brother told him before he took his last breath.
“Hyung, I… want to carry… this with me.”
The boy slowly raised his hand to give Kim Dokja the picture he was holding. In the picture, his brother was smiling happily at a man with an expressionless face - Yoo Joonghyuk.
That same man’s sole existence was the only thing that Kim Dokja loathed more than spring.
Kim Dokja didn’t remember his first meeting with the man. It was blurry, just like the rest of his life. The only thing that he remembered was how OD looked at him. Bright eyes, flushed cheeks, and parted lips. The boy fell in love with him at first sight.
Things turned out to be convenient as OD and Yoo Joonghyuk were meant to be engaged to each other. Something about their family’s traditions and being courteous to the powerful Yoo family. He didn’t understand all of that, but he was certain about one thing. Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t care about the engagement.
More precisely, the man didn’t care about anything. He always appeared to be expressionless, a frown never left his face. Yoo Joonghyuk was curt, rude, and unsociable. Nevertheless, his actions were gentleman-like and he knew how to treat others with the right amount of care. And that’s what made OD fall for him harder.
At first, Kim Dokja didn’t pay attention to his brother’s feelings. After all, love was something normal for someone of their age. He probably was the odd one for not feeling any sort of affection for people of the other sex. Or the same sex.
But when he started to realize that Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t pay any mind to his brother, Kim Dokja wanted to tell his brother to give up this futile love. What’s the point of loving a man who didn’t even look at you? Why did his brother have to go that far for a man he just met?
Kim Dokja couldn’t understand. He couldn’t understand why his brother could fall in love with such a man. He had always felt uncomfortable around Yoo Joonghyuk’s presence. Every time he looked into that dark deep eyes of his, his mind was screaming for him to run away. It was as if his subconsciousness was trying to tell him that something was going wrong.
Maybe he was right. A year after od engagement with Yoo Joonghyuk, the boy was diagnosed with stage 3 leukemia. Upon hearing the news, Kim Dokja’s eyes suddenly went back. OD had always been sickly since birth, but it never really affected his daily activities. Kim Dokja was so sure that as long as he sacrificed everything, his brother would be able to live a long happy life. Turned out he was wrong. Completely wrong.
Kim Dokja didn’t know if it was a blessing or not when Yoo Joonghyuk’s presence helped od go through his treatment. The usual pessimistic boy would always try to endure the pain, saying that he had to get better quickly so that the wedding could take place. Every time Yoo Joonghyuk visited him in the hospital, he would act all happy and giddy for the whole day. Even the man’s empty words sparked joy inside the boy’s heart.
“Ah, so he cares about me.”
OD dreamily sighed as he gazed at the flower bouquet Yoo Joonghyuk just brought earlier. It was the kind of bouquet that you could easily buy in front of the hospital, one that was for people who just didn’t want to come in empty-handed. They may appear to be expensive, but their insides were just empty.
Despite his blatant disinterest, Yoo Joonghyuk somehow kept visiting OD in the hospital. Every day, after work, he would come into the hospital room with some sort of gifts. A flower bouquet. A teddy bear. Supplementary pills. Expensive juices. Everything that one could think of when they want to visit a sick person.
The visits, just like the relationship itself, were strange. OD would be the one talking most of the time while Yoo Joonghyuk mindlessly listened to him. His replies only consisted of the same three phrases: “Is that so?”, “I see.” and “Hm.” The last one couldn’t even count as a sentence.
After sitting like a statue for exactly 30 minutes, Yoo Joonghyuk would bid his brother goodbye. No kiss, no hug, no word of affirmation. Just a simple “goodbye”. But for OD, that was enough.
At first, Kim Dokja tried to leave the room so that the two could have some privacy. However, after his brother's constant begging and a realization that nothing really happened, he stayed inside, lying on the sofa while reading some web novels. Kim Dokja didn’t mutter even a single word as he listened to his brother’s monologue. Sometimes, it was too painful to watch his beloved OD desperately keeping the conversation going. He wanted to give Yoo Joonghyuk a slap, asking why the man visited when he didn’t even try to talk to his brother. Why did he keep giving his brother false hope? Why didn’t he call off the engagement when he was blatantly disinterested?
Those thoughts didn’t stop until the day OD passed away.
—
It rained heavily the moment the funeral came to an end. People left the cemetery one by one, their masks falling off as they started to laugh and talk. It was as if the whole thing was just a joke. Kim Dokja felt sick just looking at their cheerful faces.
He was the last one to remain in the cemetery, his eyes didn’t leave the cold stone tomb for once. Well, he’s not really the only one. A man with a tall figure stood behind him, holding an umbrella that sheltered both of them from the rain. As usual, he couldn’t guess what Yoo Joonghyuk was thinking just by looking at his expression. He had that same look as when he visited OD in the past, the look of utter apathy. They stood there in silence, the only sound being the heavy raindrop hitting the hard ground. None of them uttered a single word as they kept staring down at the small grave that was decorated with fresh flowers.
Kim Dokja was about to leave when he heard the other man call his name.
“Kim Dokja.”
He didn’t answer.
“Do you want to start a romantic relationship with me?”
The man said in a voice that couldn’t be more devoid of emotions.
At first, Kim Dokja didn’t understand the meaning of that sentence. But when the words clicked inside his head, he realized how crazy they sound. His dead younger brother's fiancée just asked him out.
“Why?”
Kim Dokja tried to stay calm. If not, he’s afraid that he would launch at the bastard, giving him all the beating he deserved.
“My parents.”
Ah, so he wanted to maintain a good relationship with this cursed family. While his father was shitty, the man still owned a big company and a lot of money.
At that moment, Kim Dokja felt something break inside his body. Maybe he had gone crazy. Maybe he had stopped thinking. Maybe his heart had been buried alongside his brother. But when he next opened his mouth, he heard himself saying:
“I agree. But on one condition.”
“Take me to the places you have gone with my brother.”
That day marked the beginning of the spring curse.
“OD, please wait for your hyung.”
I remember a weird memory.
So let's set the scene and backstory, before I go into the memory.
So, just after my adopted got murdered, I was sent back to England. This was when I started to say "no" to different things and my ex friends, thought I was the most rudest person ever. Tbh, I honestly believed them for a very long time.
My mother was best friends with the next door neighbour, and this neighbour (at the time), fostered teens. I used to hang out with these teens and some of them, are extremely unruly and had a lot of trauma. So they cause arguments, fights, drinking, do drugs and of course my neighbour would let them. (TDLR, my mother used to work in social services. My mother got her into foster care because my neighbour wanted money. My mother committed fraud by doing this and sending fake letters saying how the person is okay to foster. When they're clearly not).
So one of the teens (let's call her Emma), I knew as a young kid and I knew her biological mother and step father. The step father knew the sperm donor and was best friends, the family came over to my house, A LOT. Later on, the step dad turned out to be a monster, sexually assaulted one of Emma's sisters multiple times (Emma has 2 sisters and they are identical twins) as a child and all of them got taken away from social services. Now Emma was in foster care and separated from her 2 sisters.
Now back to the memory.
I used to hang out with Emma, but I always felt uncomfortable. My mother would force me to hang out with her and we always argued, because Emma would get into trouble, to a point the police got called. Mostly petty crime like damaging people's property or go into abandoned buildings and get high or drink. I'm NOT into that. Emma called me "you're such a goody goody two shoes". Tbh, I didn't care, I didn't want to get arrested or get into trouble. Not my thing, even as a kid. It just wasn't my thing.
One day I finally caved in and hung out with Emma and her two other guy mates. The boys, bullied me for being goody goody two shoes. One day, they stole some of the things from the house, one guy kept saying he knows karate and will beat me up. (Ha! He didn't know, I'm a trained fighter) I got so mad, I chucked him out of my house, threatened him to break his collar bone if he didn't give me my stuff back. Then I found out he stuffed my favourite brush in his pants. So I made him undress, got him half naked and that's when I got my stuff back. I nearly called the cops. (But at the time, I was so afraid of calling the cops because when I tried to call the cops about the sperm donor raping me, i got called "you're just making it up for attention". So I just didn't call the cops).
Honestly, that should have been a warning sign, but I didn't listen and my mother forced me to hang out with Emma again.
My mother and neighbour, told the 2 boys and Emma what they saw is all made up. I can't fight and it's all imaginary. (So basically, they gaslight and manipulated teens. Why? Who the fuck knows. I stopped asking questions a long time ago).
This memory, really gave me the ick, for such a long time.
I hung out with Emma again and her best friend (let's call her Chelsea). The two boys, me and Chelsea, all went to this Quarry (not abandoned, they just like to get caught). So everyone decided to play this game and the two girls tried to force me to suck one of boys dicks. I kept saying no, they were like "oh go on, it will be your first time". I kept saying no and eventually the boy whipped out his dick and said "go on, suck on it". I burst into laughter on how small it was. They kept calling me rude and said "but you're a virgin. You don't know what a small dick looks like". I'm like, that looks like a 3 inch. The boy replied "it's 4 inches actually". I'm like "3.5 then". It got heated, turned into an argument and I shouted at the top of my voice "I said FUCK OFF AND I MEAN NO". They were shocked that i did that, I ended up walking away and I didn't say anything to them. I just got my things, walked away and when I went down this hill to the main entrance to leave, I saw a security guard for the Quarry and he said "hey! You shouldn't be here". I replied back "I know, it's why I'm leaving". He was gonna call the cops on me but I said "look, I didn't want to come but these 4 did and forced me to go with them". Told him what happened, told them the names and where they lived. He didn't call the cops on me and he was glad I was safe. He ran up with his colleague, and he quickly called the cops and thanked me for the tip off.
When I was walking home, I saw a bunch of police cars going to the Quarry. I went back safe. The next day tho... I was scolded for calling the cops on Emma, Chelsea and the 2 boys. Everyone was not happy with me and they kept saying I was rude and inconsiderate. That I don't deserve to live and shit like that. They didn't do anything to me tho, but I know Emma is still not happy with me.
But looking back, I think I did a good thing. I didn't back down, I didn't bow down. IF I did, I would probably got raped but I didn't. So the security guard was on my side because I basically grassed on them. Oh well, maybe don't force a person to be raped and go somewhere, you shouldn't have gone to.
It's probably why Emma hates me. No idea what kind of trouble Emma, Chelsea and the two got into. I just know, they all fell out with each other and blamed me for it. Projection much.
Anyway, that's the weird memory. Just thought I would write it down. It helps with my memory and it helps me regulate my emotions. Thanks for reading this.
BIO
Vincent was born two minutes and 33 seconds after his older brother Anthony. As a baby, he was the one to cry and giggle at the same time, amusing their parents and most likely sometimes even his twin brother. As a toddler, he was always a step behind, following his brother loyally, but still always only looking at the back of his head as Anthony moved forward determinedly. He didn’t mind though, Vincent never once felt unhappy about it. He cherished his brother dearly, even when he was only 3 years old - everybody could see just how much he admired him. It was never evaluated as a problem, quite the opposite, because Anthony was comfortable in his twin's presence.
The differences between them only grew more obvious as years went by, Vincent the shy & quiet one in the back while Anthony caught all the attention & shined brightly in it. Their mother died when they both were still little & nobody ever met their father, so they were raised by their older sister, Talia, who .. was loved by many, but when it was just them at home.. there was a different air to her. Vincent adored her, as he did ... most people, but he had to watch Anthony & her fight quite often. Of course he picked his brother's side. Always.
The first day at school, Anthony was there to comfort him. He always was. The big, protective brother and Vincent relished in it. &… they were never lonely, because they always had one another & nothing could get in-between them. Nothing.
Being born into one of the wealthiest families in the State, did come with ups & downs. Vincent had everything he could possibly want, growing up, but at the same time ... responsibility no child should be carrying around with them rested on his & Anthony's shoulders. With the twins building the family business' future, they had to be on their best behavior. Always.
But Talia underestimated the bond shared between twins - by far, especially with one of them never up to anything good & the other with an abnormal need to support the troublemaker. It started with little pranks, but as they grew older & Anthony even more confident... he also grew more ambitious & Vincent? He loved & admired his brother more than anything in the world.
Three weeks before their eleventh birthday, Talia had invited colleagues & neighbors over for a big gathering. Everybody of worth was huddled up in their house for the entire night & the boys had been reprimanded to behave. Safe to say they didn't. A scandal the neighborhood & Talia's colleagues would be talking about for a long time coming .... would be born tonight.
Long story short, Anthony thought messing wit the food would cause uproar, but it didn't, which woke the ambitious monster within him. It didn't end well. Not even Vincent can recall how it happened, but there was fire involved. A lot of it.
When blame was to be placed upon one of the twins, it wasn't Anthony who was declared culprit - Talia saw the worth in him, surely. She didn't. But she had a choice to make to fix the mess they had created & one of them had to pay for their sins, children or not. Vincent, the timid follower was useless in Talia's empire - dispensable. Anthony was the leader type, flaws or not. He was the confident, smart & independent leader she wanted. & so Vincent was officially banished & sent to a camp for troubled teens in Alaska, which was as far away as she managed to get him accepted in a few hour's time.
He didn't see it coming, but in the morning ... he found a car waiting. Unlike the other kids in BlueFire Wilderness, Vincent's stay didn't come with an expiration date, so he would be spending the next eight years there until he was old enough to decide about life by himself. He tried to escape, but even if he did, he wouldn't know where to go. But, abandoned by those he loved & alone in the world, Vincent didn't seek to get away from Camp anymore after the first months. Why bother when they forgot about him so easily?
Vincent didn't set foot in Camp Halfblood until he was fourteen, but then he'd spend the summers there at least - as was agreed on by Camp leaders. His first little dip into the truth of who his father was. His powers were ... not quite as attention-seeking as others, so it took everybody a long while to even notice. He doesn't remember when he first met his father, but it changed his life, even though he - too ...abandoned him.
When released from BlueFire Wilderness at the age of 18, Vincent became a paramedic. He'd always had that urge to help. Be it his brother or kids in camp. It didn't matter. Vincent was .. a helper & saving people's lives? Pretty good way to help.
It wasn't until about a decade later that Vincent decided to follow the call, both to find out more about who he is and what he is capable of, but also ...again, to help save lives where he can.
