“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lyra answered.

Karine wasn’t convinced. “I thought we all agreed to delete the pictures and block Christian’s number. In fact, that was your idea. So, why didn’t you do it?”

Lyra glanced at the door leading to the kitchen and lowered her voice so only Karine could hear. “I don’t think you want the answer to that, Kar, but I’ll tell you if you promise not to blow up at me.”

Karine crossed her arms and quirked a brow. “I can’t make any promises.”

Lyra glanced at the door again, as though they expected someone to be listening on the other side. Their voice was barely a whisper when they said, “Remember that solo mission I took a couple weeks ago?” Karine nodded. Lyra took a deep breath. “Well, that was a mission to look for Christian.”

“A mission orchestrated by who?” Karine interrupted.

Lyra rolled her eyes. “Would you let me finish?” Karine ground her jaw, but she stayed quiet as the caretaker continued. “Since before we found Elliot, I’ve been working with Gary Newbar to try and track Christian down.” Karine’s eyes widened and her lips parted as though she wanted to say something, but Lyra spoke again before she had the chance. “Before you say anything, I want you to think about this. It took us sixteen months to find Elliot on our own and I don’t want to risk Christian coming back for him and taking him away somewhere where we’ll never see him again. We can’t take care of Elliot and look for Christian on our own. That’s why I’m working with Gary.”

Karine’s face was beet-red, and her eyes were wide as saucers. “May I speak now?” she asked, her voice terrifyingly calm. Lyra nodded. Karine took a deep breath to steady herself. “Now, I’m hoping that you didn’t just admit what I think you did but let me clarify anyway. Are we talking about the same Gary Newbar that formed this team?” Lyra nodded. “The same one we worked for for two years? The same one that royally fucked us over and tried to split us up?”

“That’s the one.”

Karine delivered a swift smack to Lyra’s left shoulder. Her voice dropped to a whisper as she said, “What the fuck is wrong with you, Lyra? That man can’t be trusted!”

“You think I don’t remember what he did? I’m well aware, but unlike you, I’m not willing to risk Elliot’s safety over your petty grudge. Gary has resources and connections, and if working with him is what it takes to keep my brother safe, then so be it.”

Karine shook her head. “We’ll discuss that more later, but that still doesn’t answer my question. Why did you keep the pictures?”

“Because after the mission, Gary told me to notify him if Christian ever tried to contact us. I needed to keep the pictures as proof,” Lyra admitted.

“And you didn’t think this was something you should share with the rest of us?”

“I knew you wouldn’t like it,” Lyra said. “That’s why I didn’t tell you. I don’t care what it takes or who I have to owe a favor to, I am not going to let that monster take Elliot again.” Karine was silent for a beat. When she didn’t say anything, Lyra continued, “You can be mad at me all you want, Kar, but I don’t regret it. I will do anything to keep Elliot safe.”

Karine sighed. “I know. I don’t blame you. We all see Elliot as our brother. I just wish you had told me.”

“What would you have done if I had? Tried to stop me?”

“I don’t know what I would’ve done,” Karine admitted. “I just feel like we all need to be more honest with each other. For Elliot’s sake.” Lyra nodded in agreement as Karine took a deep breath. Her shoulders heaved as she released it. “In that case, there’s something that I have to tell you.” Lyra raised an eyebrow. “I only found out earlier today, and things have been emotional since we got back, so don’t blame me for not telling anyone immediately?”

Lyra was skeptical. “What is it?”

Karine sighed. “I know where Christian is.”

Elliot stared into the contents of his mug as his tea began to steep. He shoved his hands into his lap to quell their shaking. Everything was out in the open now. There were no more secrets about what he’d gone through. Not only did his teammates know what had been done to him, they’d seen almost everything. He’d tried to put on a brave face when he scrolled through those pictures, but inside, he felt a mixture of shame, disgust, and unadulterated hatred for himself.

Colleen, seeming to notice his growing unease, slowly lowered herself into the chair directly beside him. “How are you feeling, hun?”

Elliot looked up at her. After all the chaos that had taken place over the last eight hours, he’d nearly forgotten she was there. It took him a moment to register that she’d asked him a question. His mind was still reeling from the intense emotions that had been forced to the surface. “O-Oh,” he finally said. “I-I don’t know. S-Sorry, Miss Colleen.”

“Don’t be sorry, hun. Things have been stressful. I’m sorry for dropping in unexpectedly and messing up everyone’s dynamic. I understand now that what happened to you is very serious and I shouldn’t have ignored Landon’s warnings. I’m really sorry, sweetie.”

Elliot shook his head. “It-It’s not your fault. You-You didn’t kn-know.”

Colleen smiled gently at him. “Why don’t you and I go out and do something tomorrow? I feel like we should get to know each other a little bit more.”

Elliot’s blood chilled. “Like-Like what?”

Noticing his unease and the way his demeanor changed, Colleen softened her expression and leaned away from him a bit. “Like going to the mall or maybe the library. Or even just going on a walk. It’s up to you. We also don’t have to do anything if you don’t feel comfortable. I know we only just met.”

Elliot shook his head. “It-It’s not that. I-I just…I haven’t really l-left the safehouse since-since I was rescued. Well, un-until today.” His face flushed a shameful shade of red.

“It doesn’t have to be just the two of us,” Colleen said. “We could bring someone you feel safe with or someone you know will protect you. I want to get to know the whole team.”

Elliot shrugged, refusing to lift his gaze from his mug. “I-I don’t know, M-Miss Colleen.”

“That’s okay. I won’t force you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.”

There was a look of genuine shock on Elliot’s face upon hearing that, which made Colleen’s heart ache.

“Th-Thank you, Miss Colleen,” Elliot finally said. “I-I’ll think about it.”

Colleen nodded. “Don’t worry about it if you don’t want to. I understand and I promise I won’t get mad.”

“You won’t?” he asked.

Colleen shook her head. “I promise. I’m not an angry person. Trust me, Landon inherited all of the anger in our family.” She laughed and a tiny smile appeared briefly on Elliot’s face before it disappeared again. As Elliot opened his mouth to respond, Karine and Lyra entered the kitchen, each looking slightly rattled, but they both forced smiles to their faces when they saw Elliot.

“Feeling any better, bud?” Karine asked.

Elliot didn’t know how to answer. In truth, he was anxious about what they were talking about and why Karine seemed mad at Lyra initially. Now, they looked about as anxious as he felt.

“I-I’m fine,” he answered. “Wh-What were you t-talking about?”

Karine and Lyra shared a quick glance before Lyra smiled and said, “Nothing you need to worry about, El.” She kissed the top of his head and went to make herself some tea.

Stupid dog. If they wanted you to know what they were talking about, they would’ve let you stay to hear it. Don’t tell me you’re forgetting your place already

Elliot took a sip of his tea to hide the growing redness that spread over his cheeks. “Miss-Miss Colleen?” he said as he set down his mug. “I-I think I w-would like to-to go out with you to-tomorrow.”

A large, sincere grin spread across Colleen’s face. “Really? Oh, yay, this will be fun. Any idea where you want to go?”

Elliot shook his head. “I-I think I just-just need to-to get out of the house.”

“How about the mall?” Colleen suggested. “I noticed your room was pretty empty. We could go shopping for some decorations or new clothes maybe. Up to you.”

Elliot nodded, grateful that she was willing to give him a change of scenery. “That-That sounds good.”

“Okay, then. It’s a date!” Colleen exclaimed, her wide smile never leaving her face.

Elliot couldn’t deny the excitement building in his chest at the thought of getting to spend some time alone with Colleen. The woman was a nice change of pace from the people constantly worrying over him. Though she did seem to pity him, she didn’t treat him like he was completely incapable of doing anything on his own. It was refreshing.

Elliot took another sip of tea, unable to fight the small smile tugging at his lips.

The theme of International Fanworks Day in 2023 is When Fandoms Collide. So here are a bunch of very good X-Files crossover fics. Enjoy! Abner by Anonymous Mulder and Scully are assigned to investigate a possible serial killing in a small, very suburban neighborhood. The Beast Within by Yahtzee Also from the department of twisted crossovers comes this story – but I’ll leave the crossover for you to figure out as you go. Mulder and Scully’s journey to a troubled Louisiana town leads Scully to an encounter with a far more troubled man. Birdsong by @chekcough The plot of Silence of the Lambs, with Dana Scully replacing Clarice Starling, and a younger Agent Mulder, working in the B.S.U, assigned to help her. It is not at all necessary to have seen/read either 'The Silence of the Lambs' or 'The X-Files' to enjoy this. The Glimmering Girl by Tesla Mulder works a child abduction with Frank Black, while Scully is away for the weekend, but very much on Mulder’s mind. Homicidal Tendencies by Swikstr What begins as a typical ritual murder case with supernatural overtones for Mulder and Scully in Baltimore becomes something else as the two are forced to interact with some of the unique personalities on Charm City's murder squad. Scully's developing connection with a Baltimore homicide detective has far-reaching consequences in the evolution of her relationship with Mulder. Interagency (Mulder and Scully Meet the Director) by pinebluffvariant "You're wanted on a task force." Leap of Faith, parts 1 and 2 by Livengoo Sam Beckett has to keep Fox Mulder from becoming one more abductee, but when he leaps into Dana Scully's size fours he finds that might not be such an easy job. Letting Go by Joann Humby Mulder goes solo on a case in San Francisco. But when the killer isn’t what he was expecting, he needs the SF PD and the FBI’s finest to help him out. Lucky X in the City by @lilydalexf Samantha Jones meets Mulder in a bar. Fox hunting ensues. It’s more serious than it sounds. Samsara by Alicia K. Crossover of sorts, MSR of sorts. I don't want to say anything more, so we'll just let it go at that. "What do you mean you ran away?" Karine exclaimed, earning a flinch out of Elliot.

"Karine," Yvonne scolded. "Why don't you get the rest of the team while I talk to him?" Elliot whimpered and Yvonne gently rubbed his back. "It's okay, love. You're not in trouble. We just want to understand what happened, that's all."

Elliot didn't relax. The tension in his muscles increased with each member of the team that entered the room. Once everyone had joined them, including Colleen, all eyes fell upon Elliot, who's shoulders sagged beneath the weight.

The looks on everyone's faces betrayed their feelings of confusion and concern.

They're gonna be so angry. They're finally gonna see what an immense disappointment you are

"Elliot," Yvonne began once everyone had settled, "Would you please explain what happened today?"

Elliot's face turned bright red as he lowered his eyes to the ground. "Y-Yes, ma'am." He tried taking a deep breath to steel himself, but his lungs refused to respond. His heart was pounding against his ribcage, muscles aching with the tension that wouldn't subside.

Just get it overwith, you stupid bitch

He didn't have a choice. Everyone's eyes were locked onto him, awaiting an answer. He couldn't bear the awkward silence any longer. So, he forced the words out, "I wasn't kidnapped. I-I r-ran a-away."

Silence befell each person in the room and not a single breath was released. Elliot braced himself for what he knew was coming; the screaming and shouting that would inevitably follow the brief moment of shock.

As the seconds ticked by without a single word uttered, Elliot's anxiety grew. He couldn't bring himself to look at them for fear of the fury he knew masked their faces.

Elliot flinched as a gentle hand fell upon his quivering shoulder. "We're not angry, sweetie," Yvonne's soothing voice assured him. "We just want to know why. Did we do something to hurt you?"

Elliot should've expected that question. Even if they weren't angry at him for running away, they surely would be when they learned why. Elliot shook his head, tears stinging his eyes. "I-I can't—"

"Please," Lyra interrupted, which earned another flinch from Elliot. "Elliot, we don't ever want to hurt you, so if somehow we did, we want to make it better. That's all, I promise."

Elliot nervously glanced up at Lyra. Lyra, who had practically raised Elliot since they were eleven. Lyra, who had to grow up too fast in order to give Elliot the love and protection that a mother should. Lyra, who had called him her brother when he was about to be raped again by Christian's friend. Lyra, who would never let anything bad happen to him.

He could see the hurt in their eyes and he knew it was his fault. He'd done that to them. After everything Lyra had done for him, he had hurt her.

His sister.

Elliot's lower lip wobbled as he stared into their eyes. This wasn't fair to them. They deserved to know. "It-It was right after Miss Colleen had-had helped me with my panic attack. I was scared you-you were gonna send me back, so-so I listened to-to everyone's conversation." He expected a slap to the back of his head, but when it didn't come, he continued. "I h-heard everything. I heard Yvonne t-talking about how-how much it h-hurts everyone to-to see me like this. I heard L-Landon say that M-Master was coming back for-for me." Elliot choked on a sob in his throat. "I-I heard you t-talk about the-the pictures."

It was with that revelation that the air seemed to be sucked from the room. Time stood still and the deafening silence weighed heavily on Elliot's shoulders. Anxious glances were exchanged between everyone in the room, but no one spoke up.

Elliot nervously fidgeted with his hands as the endless silence stretched on. After several long minutes, Lyra was the first to speak up.

"I'm so sorry, sunshine. We didn't want to upset you."

Elliot kept his gaze trained on his quivering hands. "Can I s-see them?"

"We deleted them all," Karine said. "They're gone."

"Actually," Lyra spoke up, "I still have them." They pulled out their phone and handed it to Elliot to look through. Karine's eyes were wide with shock and confusion as she watched Lyra hand her phone to Elliot.

Elliot scrolled, his breath catching in his throat. His stomach did somersaults and his mouth went completely dry.

Elliot squeaked, eyes welling when he reached the end. "I'm sorry you h-had to s-see that," he mumbled, shakily handing Lyra’s phone back to them.

"We're sorry that happened to you, love," Yvonne said. "You didn't deserve any of that."

Elliot choked on a sob in his throat. "I-I'm disgusting."

"You're not disgusting," Broderick cut in. "Christian is disgusting for doing those things to you."

Elliot sniffled and fought back tears. "Wh-Why didn't anyone t-tell me?"

"Because we knew it would upset you," Lyra admitted. "You were just starting to feel safer here and we didn't want to make things worse."

Elliot couldn't hold back anymore. His overwhelming emotions sprung forth and tears cascaded down his face. "I n-never wanted a-anyone to kn-know about this. P-Please don't h-hate me."

"We could never hate you," Lyra assured him. "We love you so much. The only person we hate is Christian.”

Colleen awkwardly stood, recognizing the seriousness of the conversation, as well as her misplaced presence in it. “I’ll…go make some tea,” she mumbled as she quietly excused herself from the conversation. No one paid her quick exit any notice.

Karine gently rubbed his shoulder. “You didn’t deserve that, bud. Christian is a monster.”

Elliot shook his head, staring at where his tears fell onto his lap. “I-I’m sorry I didn’t t-tell anyone. I shouldn’t have k-kept it from you.”

“You told me, remember?” Landon spoke up. Elliot hesitantly glanced up from his lap. “Well, you didn’t technically tell me. It was more like you thought I was gonna…” Landon broke off when he saw the way Elliot’s face blanched and his shoulders shook. “Anyway, what I’m saying is, I’ve known for a while and it never changed my opinion of you.”

Elliot sniffled. “That-That was d-different. I didn’t m-mean to t-tell you, it-it was an accident.” Elliot scrubbed at the tears on his face and pressed the heels of his hands to his eyes. “B-Besides, you-you didn’t know how b-bad it was. You didn’t s-s-see it un-until now.”

“Elliot,” Lyra said, gently taking hold of one of his hands and pulling it away from his face. His eyes were bloodshot and overflowing as he stared at them. Lyra sighed. “What that man did to you is unforgivable, but it doesn’t change how much we love you. Nothing could.”

Elliot’s lower lip wobbled. “H-How could it not? I’m r-ruined.”

“Elliot,” Lyra said, gentle but stern. They took hold of his trembling, scarred hands and sighed. “You are not ruined,” they assured him. Despite his hands being trapped between Lyra’s, his eyes remained trained on his lap. “Elliot, look at me.” Elliot suppressed a flinch and did as he was told, meeting Lyra’s gentle gaze with teary eyes. “You are not ruined. You are still the same beautiful, intelligent man that you’ve always been. No one can take that away from you.”

Elliot sniffled. “B-But, I’m d-dirty and u-used.”

Lyra tilted their head sadly. “Elliot, you were raped.” Elliot flinched at the mention of that word. “I know it’s a hard thing to accept, but it was not your fault and you are not dirty because of it.”

Elliot clamped his eyes tightly shut in an attempt to keep his tears at bay. “I'm s-sorry. I-I’m so s-sorry.”

Lyra gently squeezed both of his hands. “You have nothing to be sorry for, sunshine. We completely understand. We’re sorry we didn’t tell you about the pictures. We should never have kept that from you.”

“Lyra’s right,” Karine added. “From now on, no more secrets, okay? We will always be honest with you, but you don’t ever have to share anything you’re uncomfortable with. What happened to you is your business.”

Elliot sniffled, refusing to look up from his and Lyra’s interlocked hands. “You-You don’t have to t-tell me e-everything.”

“We’re a team, El. We should always be honest with each other. Right, Lyra?” Karine said, subtly raising an eyebrow.

Lyra nodded, completely oblivious to Karine’s true meaning. “Right. No more secrets between any of us.”

Yvonne and Broderick exchanged a quick glance, though no one else seemed to notice.

Elliot sniffled and nodded. “O-Okay.”

Lyra smiled and gently kissed the top of his head as Colleen peaked her head out of the kitchen. “Hey, I made some tea. Landon told me that peppermint was Elliot’s favorite. Is that okay, hun?”

Elliot nodded and Lyra squeezed his hand. “Let’s all get some tea. It’s been a hard day.” Everyone nodded in agreement and stood up to make their way into the kitchen.

Lyra guided Elliot to his feet and led him toward the kitchen, but a hand on their shoulder stopped them in their tracks. Both Elliot and Lyra turned to see Karine standing there, arms crossed firmly over her chest.

Lyra recognized that look and instantly released their grip on Elliot’s hand. “Go get some tea, sunshine. I’ll be there in a minute.”

Elliot didn’t move. “Wh-What’s going on?” He shakily asked.

“Nothing you need to worry about, bud,” Karine assured him. “I just need to talk to Lyra for a second. That’s all.”

Elliot wasn’t convinced, but it wasn’t in his nature anymore to disobey. Once he had disappeared beyond the confines of the kitchen walls, Lyra turned to Karine and raised their brows. “What is it, Kar?” they whispered.

“We need to talk.”

Lyra rolled their eyes. “Yeah, I guessed as much. What do you think we need to talk about?”

Karine wasn’t amused. With a deadly serious expression on her face, she said, “About why you kept those pictures.”

"I watched that movie, we're better off," grunted Beckett as she gingerly picked up the device with her massive fingers, "here, grab it before I smush it. I don't know if Tara'd have a spare."

This planet Jason was on was once thriving world. A planet full of trees, water, animals, and people. All who lived peacefully on the planet, until a war broke out in this sector. This left the planet in ruins, all of its resources plundered, and its people nearly wiped out. Centuries have passed and the planet has been nearly forgotten.

Jason was told the planet was under the control of a group called the Klingons. He didn’t think too much about it and knew he would be out of here before they found out or one of their allies.

He walks over towards his prize. A box containing a valuable item that he knew would come in for a pretty penny…or whatever currency the people of this universe use. He walks over and begins to disable any security systems around, before getting his prize. He wipes away the dirt from it, opens it, and smiles when he saw what’s inside.

“Just like the buyer said,” Jason whispered before putting the box in his bag.

These are the Red Army kids that exist in the universe when Eden is 3 years old. They are the older generation because there are few more red army kids (like Zero’s kids, and younger siblings) that haven’t been born yet.

Lancelot Kingsley:

Status: Married to Victoria Buckley

Home: Owns a large home near Red Headquarters; kids visit often but mainly live at their home

Kids: 2

Atticus Kingsley

Age: 6 Years Old

Appearance: Fair skinned, red hair, rich blue eyes. A little shorter than average for his age.

Some Facts:

Spends most of his time out of school at Headquarters with his sword instructor. This is his favorite pastime and he wants to grow stronger so that he can inherit the King of Hearts position from his father one day.

Hates any other lessons, like etiquette or dance, but he masters them quickly so he can go back to sword play.

Extremely smart and manipulative. He believes because of his status that he can boss every one else around, especially his staff at his home. Though, it typically only works on new workers.

He’s sent many nannies away over the past few years. They all tend to find him too hard to handle and quit within days.

His current nanny has become the exception. Annalise Perry has been the only successful nanny to corral the young Kingsley. Atticus adores her. She doesn’t chastise him for his pranks, instead usually finding them funny, but she does not let him boss her around either. Annalise will play swords with him and doesn’t mind getting out in the woods. She is one of the few adults he listens to. 

Thoughts/Interactions with other Red Army Kids

Lyra Kingsley:

His baby sister that he doesn’t really care for. She can’t speak or play with him so she bores him easily. He doesn’t care for how everyone coos at her for being cute either, but secretly likes when he makes her giggle and smile.

Caroline Clemence:

Atticus likes Caroline for how easily bossed around she is. She always jumps at an opportunity to sword fight with him, despite her never beating him without him giving it to her. The two have been together since they were born. His least favorite thing about her is how stuck to the rules she is.

Jude Clemence:

Like his own sister, he is bored with babies and tends to avoid them if at all possible. He rarely sees the younger Clemence, unless Caroline drags him along.

Eden Bright:

When Eden was first brought to headquarters, Atticus was immediately interested. Since Eden is much younger and more timid than Caroline, he vowed to protect her, especially since she gets sick so easily. He refers to her at the Princess of Headquarters since she lives there full time. He hates to see her cry and wants to do everything he can to make her smile.

Beckett Ash:

Immediately sees him as a rival. Until Beckett arrived, he was the only boy with the two girls. He tries to assert his status over Beckett as soon as they meet. Atticus finds his niceness as weakness and picks on him often. Since Beckett is so level-headed and shy, he doesn’t fight back, giving Atticus the control and power in their relationship.

Sadie Ash:

Atticus really doesn’t know what to make of her, at first. He’d never experienced a girl like her. She always surprised him with how she defended her brother from his antics. Unlike Caroline, Sadie doesn’t care that he is the son of the King of Hearts and that is entertaining to him. He enjoys how angry she gest at him, and he often pins her to the floor during a physical fight and taunts about what she is going to do.

Thoughts/Interactions with Black Army and Neutrals:

Castor Oswald:

Occasionally sees him on the playground or at assemblies. Since he isn’t in his immediate circle of friends or his grade, Atticus pays little attention to him. He does think that Castor is boring since he rarely sees him with other children.

Sasha Hyde:

Atticus thinks that Sasha is very strange because of how often he sees her reading big, old books. He can’t boss her around like the rest of the class, nor does she fawn over him like the other girls, so Atticus is generally frustrated with every interaction he has with her. He wants her attention so badly that he tends to follow her around practically begging for it.

Valen Tweedle (Dean):

Not in his class, but plays with him at recess. His second in command during school hours. Enjoys having him around to follow his orders and play sword games or pirates. Atticus drags him into his shenanigans that land both of them in trouble. Even when sitting in time out, they make funny faces at each other and goof around.

Lyra Kingsley

Age: 1 Year Old in present

Appearance: Whispy blonde hair and sky blue eyes; most say she looks exactly like her father

For the purpose of telling her personality, the following information is based on Lyra being around 4 or 5 years old.

Some facts:

The reserved child, but still understands her status. She is nice to everyone and willing to help out.

Hates the idea of fighting and would never pick up a sword. Instead, she would rather solve problems by talking about it.

It rarely happens, but should another child pick on her, she always runs to her brother to protect her.

Doesn’t make friends easily because of her shyness.

Red Army Thoughts/Interactions:

Atticus Kingsley:

She see Atticus as her protector and often follows him around, much to his displeasure. Their age gap puts a strain on their relationship at this age. She likes for him to tell her stories before she goes to bed.

Caroline Clemence:

Lyra believes that Atticus and Caroline are going to get married. She likes to let Caroline dress her up and play house with her. Although they are four years apart, Caroline dotes on her like she did when Eden.

Jude Clemence:

Being nearly the same, the two were always put together when the elder siblings went to school. They are best friends and go everywhere together. She finds him incredibly sweet and would rather play with him than anyone else. They are constantly playing hide and seek together in HQ and Jude brings her a flower every day as “a gift for the lovely lady”.

Eden Bright:

Closer in age than Lyra is with Caroline, the two don’t spend much time together. Lyra is similar to Eden in being a little clingy to her parents, but not quite so drastic as the young Bright. If Caroline is not around to get all the girls together, Eden and Lyra don’t play together. But, when all the girls get together, they can get along.

Beckett Ash:

Lyra likes Beckett a lot because he is so nice to her all the time, but Atticus doesn’t like the two of them being together. Beckett reads to her a lot and tells her about the things he is learning.

Sadie Ash:

Since Eden and Sadie become very good friends, Lyra doesn’t spend a lot of time with her. She doesn’t like how much Sadie and Atticus fight with each other, and she fears they’re going to hurt each often, making Lyra upset.

Other Interactions:

Since Lyra is so sheltered, she doesn’t see any of the other kids enough to have an opinion of them (at this age), but she is polite to every person she meets, but rarely talks unless she has to.

Jonah Clemence

Status: Married to Eleanor Atlas

Home- Owns a home near Red Headquarters; the kids live part time between home and HQ, due to Eleanor traveling overseas often.

Kids: 2

Caroline Clemence:

Age: 5 years old

Appearance: A mini Jonah. She has little features from her mother. Mint hair and amber eyes. The only difference in her and Jonah is that her mole is under the opposite eye, like Luka’s.

Some Facts:

Similar to Atticus in knowing exactly what her family name means and can do, but she isn’t very manipulative about it. She takes her surname very seriously and always follows the rules that are set for her. The only exception to this if she is approached by one of Jonah’s Heart Defenders, then she might abuse her power as a Clemence.

Unlike Jonah was raised, Caroline has a lot more freedom than he did. She gets plenty of attention, despite not being the current choice for the Queen of Hearts. Jonah is very protective of her, but also spoils her a little too much sometimes.

Enjoys being girly and rich- spends money as easily as her father.

Caroline has a fondness for sword fighting, but mostly because it’s one the only ways she can get Atticus’s attention.

She typically mimics Jonah and tries to speak in the way he does sometimes.

Red Army Thoughts/Interactions

Atticus Kingsley:

Caroline adores Atticus and would do anything he asked. She has never beaten him in a sword fight but pretends that she has. All her skills come from his instruction. He told her it was because he wanted a sparring partner, but she took it as him saying she was special.

Lyra Kingsley:

As a baby, Caroline loves to take care of her along with her own baby brother. She is very motherly towards Lyra, even as they grow older. She tries to get Lyra to be more outgoing and always makes the others listen to her when she wants to speak.

Jude Clemence:

Her little brother might as well have been her own child. Caroline fully took her mother’s place anytime she was away. She memorized Jude’s schedule, knows what foods he can eat, and thoroughly loves sitting in the rocking chair and holding him while he falls asleep. As the two get older, she finds him to be meek but charming.

Eden Bright:

Her little sister. Caroline loves Eden so much. Any time she can spend with her, she’s there. She teaches Eden things that she learns at school and likes to read books to her when Eden is feeling sick. Before Beckett and Sadie arrived, Caroline had Eden following her around everywhere. Despite Eden spending time with Sadie a lot, the two remain close.

Beckett Ash:

Caroline doesn’t really mind him, but also goes along with whatever Atticus tells her, so she typically shuns him when Atticus is around. She admires how smart his is and when he joins her class in school, Caroline looks out for him.

Sadie Ash:

The enemy. Oil and water. Sadie stands up to Atticus and talks about him. Caroline isn’t fond her at all. Especially once Eden and Sadie start playing together. She sees her as disruptive, because Sadie doesn’t let her boss around Eden when all the girls are playing together.

Black Army/Neutral Interactions:

Caroline also only sees those in her school grade as Kindergarten doesn’t play with the older kids. The only other kid that Caroline knows well enough in the present is Finley.

Finley Godspeed:

Her biggest rival for Eden’s attention before Sadie arrived. Eden talks about Finley a lot because of all the presents she receives from her. Caroline greatly dislikes that and tells Eden that Finley is lying to her because they cannot get married. Her reasoning is that they live in separate territories. She bickers with Finley any time she sees her.

Jude Clemence:

Age: 11 Months

Appearance: Dusty brown hair and hazel eyes, very much like his mother has the porcelain complexion of Jonah.

For the purpose of this section, like Lyra, I’m aging Jude up to around 4 or 5 to give insight to his personality.

Some Facts:

Bashful child, unless he is with Lyra. He finds talking and interacting with the other kids tiring and would rather be alone with Lyra.

He brings Lyra a flower every day because he says that she is angel and he wants to see her smile.

Jude doesn’t like to talk, and his family thought that he was late in learning how to speak but he just chose not to.

Sometimes he is confused for being a girl, especially when he was a baby because of he took after his mother. He grew used to it, and because he didn’t speak up, many still refer to him a “she” by mistake.

Terrified of swords and fighting. He does not want to take lessons in learning swordplay, typically hiding away or sitting on the floor to protest.

Red Army Thoughts/Interactions

Atticus Kingsley:

Jude finds Atticus’s outgoing and bossy personality scary and he tends to avoid him if at all possible. With their age difference, he doesn’t mind that Atticus that ignores him.

Lyra Kingsley:

The love of his life. Even at a young age and he doesn’t understand what love is, he is enamored by Lyra and would do anything to stay by her side. He likes to hold her hand and the two often run off together to play without other kids.

Caroline Clemence:

His big sister that he adores. Jude and Caroline play a lot at home together, and she is a good teacher to him. She is always willing to help him learn big words in the books he is reading.

Eden Bright:

He doesn’t spend much time with Eden when he gets to the toddler age. She is in school and tends to stick with Sadie. He doesn’t understand why she gets sick or why she gets angry when other kids want to be around her dad.

Beckett Ash:

As he grows older, Jude begins to see Beckett as the older brother he never had. The two are both on the shy side of the scale but share a love of reading. Jude doesn’t mind spending time with Beckett whenever he is around.

Sadie Ash:

Her brash and honest way of speaking scares him as much as Atticus does. He doesn’t like fighting so Jude is always the first to go running for help when Atticus and Sadie get into a physical fight, after he makes sure Lyra isn’t going to be hurt in the process.

Black Army/Other Neutrals:

Like Lyra, Jude is very sheltered in who he can be around at the toddler age, so he doesn’t know many of the other children in Cradle at this age.

Ezra and Valarie Clemence:

Unlike his big sister, Jude has never known a time before his cousins weren’t around. Since Ezra and Valarie were a secret for the first 4 years of their life, Caroline never knew them until she was older. Jude doesn’t mind his cousins but he still finds their personalities to be strong.

Edgar Bright

Status: Single

Home: Red HQ

Kids: 1

Eden Bright

Age: 3

Appearance: Brown hair and matching Jade green eyes, fair skin, very much like Edgar

Some Facts:

Her mother kept her until she was 2 years old, leaving her Edgar’s care for only a little over a year at the beginning of her story.

She is extremely clingy to Edgar, and jealous if any other kids take his attention away. It gets worse when she is sick.

Eden has weak lungs, so Kyle gives her breathing treatments. Her immune system is also low, making her sick more often than a normal child.

Overall, the sweetheart of the Red Army. She interacts with the other soldiers and in turn, they all dote on her. Eden is very polite and doesn’t get into much trouble.

Eden loves candy as much as her father and will sweet talk her way into getting sweets from the kitchen staff on a daily basis.

Red Army Thoughts/Interactions.

Atticus Kingsley:

Her big brother figure. Once she settled into HQ with Edgar, Atticus would visit her with Caroline. She found him to be really nice and she likes when he pretends she’s a princess. The only things she dislikes is how fast he plays, and she tends to get left behind until Atticus notices her lagging.

Lyra Kingsley

Complete opposites. Eden doesn’t like Lyra when she is a baby because of jealousy. Any time Eden is in a room with Lyra, she will not let Edgar put her down to hold Lyra. It takes a long time for the jealously to subside.

Caroline Clemence:

Big sister figure. Eden loves Caroline to visit her and read her books. Caroline’s personality intimidated Eden at first but with time, she grew to like it. She spends the most time with Caroline and likes for the older girl to dress her up and fix her hair.

Jude Clemence:

It’s not often that Eden sees Jude unless Caroline takes her to him. She has mixed feelings about him, but in the end, she wouldn’t like for Edgar to give him any attention, so she stays away.

Beckett Ash:

Mostly friends by default. He stays with Sadie, therefore he spends a lot of time with Eden until he goes to school. Eden doesn’t mind him because he is typically very reserved and kind to her.

Sadie Ash:

Once Sadie arrives at HQ, Eden begins to play with her the most. Since Caroline has school, and Sadie is only 3 like Eden, the two get to spend a ton time together, especially since Kyle often looks after Eden. The two become really close. Eden likes the Sadie is patient and never forces her to play things that she doesn’t want to.

Black Army/Neutrals

Finley Godspeed:

Eden was absolutely terrified of Eden the first time that they two met. She grew to like Finley because of the attention and her persistence. Seeing how excited Finley gets to see her, the two begin an odd friendship. Eden looks forward to seeing Finley in town.

Home: HQ

Kids: 2

Beckett Ash

Age: 5

Appearance: reddish-brown hair and blue eyes

Some Facts:

Beckett like his father, is incredibly gifted. He taught himself basic first aid and treats all his sister’s wounds that their mother inflicts. He is typically spared her wrath because of his timid nature and he complies easily.

He has saved his mother from an overdose on many occasions despite her constant neglect of them.

Had to become the “parent” figure to his little sister and make sure she gets meals and bath every day.

Does not like to start trouble. Beckett is considered a suck up to adults because he does not want to rock the boat. 

Red Army Thoughts/Interactions

Atticus Kingsley:

Beckett finds Atticus to be overbearing and he tends to avoid him at all possible. He doesn’t like how much Atticus can rile up his little sister, but he rarely comments on how the Kingsley torments him.

Lyra Kingsley:

As a baby, Beckett doesn’t spend much time with her. But as she grows older, Beckett begins to like her because she is the opposite of her brother. She listens to him talk about his day and things he is learning at school. He is her honorary big brother.

Caroline Clemence:

Beckett has no ill will toward Caroline despite her mean behavior toward her when Atticus is around. He can see that she holds onto Atticus’s every word and he admires her for being so devoted to him. At school, he is always grateful for her assistance with his peers.

Jude Clemence:

When Jude grows older, Beckett becomes quite close to him. He was not surprised that Jude is as dedicated to Lyra as Caroline is to Atticus. He takes on Jude as his apprentice and teaches him big words and all the names of the flowers so he can impress Lyra.

Eden Bright:

He feels bad for Eden because of how easily she gets sick. He tends to follow Kyle around and help tend to her. He likes to take care of others so Eden is no exception. He takes extra precautions when they are playing outside to make sure Eden doesn’t overdo it.

Sadie Ash:

His little protector. Beckett adores his baby sister and chastises himself for not being able to keep her safe at their home. He wants to protect his little sister but typically she ends up protecting him, whether it be from their mother or the other kids that like to pick on him. He admires that she is so strong despite their situation. He wants her to find a place where she doesn’t have to fight for her right to live and for her to finally feel safe and loved by a parental figure.

Black Army/Neutrals

Lux Genetta:

He is fascinated with her, never met anyone with magic much less magic like hers. Beckett tags along with Kyle on his days out for working with patients just so that he can try and find Lux out and about. It isn’t often the two meet up.

Finley Godspeed:

He finds her to be most entertaining and genuinely a good person. He’s seen a lot of fakes in his life, but he is always astounded with how much Finley genuinely cares for those around her and makes an effort to make everyone happy.

Sadie Ash

Age: 3

Appearance: reddish-brown hair and golden eyes. She looks identical to Kyle. Some facts:

Her appearance being so similar to Kyle is why their mother hates Sadie so much. She resents Kyle and therefore takes it out on Sadie.

Strong willed and stands up to anyone who opposes her or her brother. She has issues with authority because of her terrible mother. Adults tend to set her into a spiral of rebellion.

She has burn marks and permanent scars from her abuse on her back and torso.

Sadie doesn’t like reading or studying like her brother. She would enjoy learning to wield a sword  because it would be another way to protect herself.

Red Army Thoughts/Interactions

Atticus Kingsley: Oil and water. Sadie does not like him one bit. She wants to wipe that smug smirk right off his face and she tries her hardest. She fights dirty with him landing her trouble often. Lyra:

Sadie isn’t too fond of babies because of her 3 half triplet half siblings that keep her awake at night screaming and crying. She steers clear of her for the most part. As they grow older, the two don’t get along because of Sadie’s behavior towards Atticus.

Caroline Clemence:

Her arch-nemisis. Sadie and Caroline tend to fight quite often, either over Eden’s attention or Sadie is trying to let Eden get a word in and let her make her own decision. Sadie can’t stand that Caroline leads Eden around like a puppy. She also dislikes that Caroline sides with Atticus when Beckett is getting picked on. Sadie has smacked her more than a few times.

Jude Clemence:

Like Lyra, Sadie avoids him as a baby. As the grow older, Sadie still doesn’t have much to do with him. But, she dislikes that he always runs and tattles on her and Atticus when she is fighting with him.

Eden Bright:

She didn’t quite understand at first why Eden got sick easily, but once the two began spending time together, Sadie grew fond of her quickly. She teaches Eden how to speak up for herself with the other kids and not let them walk all over her.

Beckett Ash:

Sadie loves her big brother, and she does everything she can to protect him, even at only ¾ years old. Her mother doesn’t pick on Beckett because of his compliant attitude and Sadie is happy for that. She does wish that he would stand up for himself, but until he does, she will defend him with everything she has.

Black Army/Neutrals:

Finley Godspeed:

Not allowed to be alone with her. The first time the two met in Central Quarter, they caused a ruckus and destroyed a fruit stand by startling a horse. Fast friends, and partners in crime. They bond over their adoration for Eden and love of causing mischief.

Lyra and Will is the best YA romance I've ever read. Not joking when I say I felt hollow for months when I read the part where they had to be separated at the end of 'The Amber Spyglass'.

Amir and Dafne did a fantastic job. I loved how they gave them more soft moments without cheapening their bond. Throughout the books, their relationship is incredibly delicate and subtly written (they're young after all) and they could have easily made it more obvious and over exaggerated for a Mainstream Audience. You'd think that wouldn't be possible but thats what Moira Walley Beckett did with Anne and Gilbert in 'Anne with an E' (that relationship basically consisted of staring at each other from a distance in that show rather than having a consistent build up)

I read an interview of Amir saying “We never really looked at it as a romantic thing. It was more important that we [Will and Lyra] were two friends that get along, and something might happen if it does happen. When playing the scenes it was never in the back of my mind.”

Edit: I wrote this analysis ^^ before my re-read and after re-reading the books I realised that was a bad approach to Lyra and Will's relationship. Even from the start, Lyra and Will's interactions are charged in the books and playing platonic until the finale at the end, is kind of a weird decision.

I personally always saw it as a deep bond between two teenagers, that became physical during the end because of everything they went through. It went beyond the typical romantic duality.

However, If I had to choose which version of their relationship I prefer (the book or the TV Show) I would have to choose the book. Because I felt during the last third, in the finale, that their relationship was a bit compacted like kiss -- you have to choose worlds -- separation. In the book, that part is so dragged out and emotional. Lyra and Will spend ages trying to find loopholes, find that there are none, then both of them get angry and upset. And it’s described that the angel felt their 'sorrows in the air'. In the tv show, I didn't really feel all that because everything was so 'get to the point' - when this is supposed to be a drawn out climax.

Unlike some others, I simultaneously believe that Lyra and Will are each others other half/soulmates. They are the only people in 'His Dark Materials' that can touch each others daemons without it being a violation and they will never love anyone else the way they loved each other. That's basically confirmed in 'The Secret of Commonwealth' (the spin off to 'His Dark Materials) where Lyra states that she still thinks of him every hour and that he’s the centre of her life.

And that their separation made sense.

Even though it was the most heartbreaking thing I ever read and left me hollow inside - its not realistic for them to have a solid relationship at 14 or how ever young they were at that point, especially on top of all their trauma. Also, it’s suggested in the books that everything must go back to the way that it was (closing all the windows) almost saying to the reader, you can't live in a fantasy world forever, you have to go back to the real world and live a full life. It’s like at the end of 'The Lord of the Rings' where Frodo destroys the ring, yet still dies at the end because of everything he went through.

It’s not fair. It’s not right. But thats just how life goes sometimes. Plus it made their ending a lot more memorable and iconic. I've actually gone to their real bench in Oxford and cried.

Although saying that, Philip Pullman has to let them see each other again when they're adults, in the last 'Book of Dust' - at least one last time come on now. But I have a feeling he won't reunite them until they die because he’s a cruel, cruel man.
