hello scum villain fandom. i finished these silly books like two months ago and have been rotating them in my mind since then.

ANYWAY, i've come to propose a fun AU from my brain: Shen Yaun 'Food Peak' Lord. >:) (please excuse any typos i'm on my phone)

This is a Scumcum AU cause I decided that SJ is like my fave and I wanna see him get wifed up. Does he deserve it? No. Will this stop me? Also no.

So, slap cut to SY and he's suddenly like waking up the day after being chosen as a Sect disciple. He's like 13 and really confused and something feels... kinda wrong! It's like he has all these swiss cheese spots in his memory and he feels like he should be alarmed he's not in his own bed! But, he also IS in his own bed? What's his problem? SY is still 100% a transmigrator but since he's in a kid's body his memories are like half on lockdown. He remembers a few things but not much. The System shows up and seems just as surprised as this turn of events as he is, sort of analyzes a while, then ends up making him think (by accident) it's some like Guardian Family Spirit who is there to guide him.

In truth, the System is trying to find the best route to get the story on track within it's programming. This is NOT what it's assignment was supposed to be! Ugh!

SY has now been shuffled into what is basically an OC so it more or less just looks like him from his old life, not that he is aware, except as a kid. Everyone calls him Kong Yuan (name pending) (also I'll keep calling him SY for this to make it easier) and he was just taken into the lower Peak in charge of Food, Wine, and Elixirs. Of course this is like, with it's own special PIDW twist so everything is cool and magic. Without any real ideas on what to do otherwise, and feeling like this is Right, he throws himself into learning stuff about the Peak. He was a lazy Millennial rich boy in his last life so he's, like, kind of a SHIT COOK. That's on top of being kind of just bad at the type of physical cultivation needed for this Peak!

While highly specialized, the people on (Food) Peak are certified badasses in their own right, even if it's not in like a proper fight. You got people dipping arms and torsos in boiling oil, doing all sorts of fancy knife tricks with qi, tearing whole large beasts apart for processing; the Peak Lord and SY's new Shizun had some giant metal ladle that's twice as long as herself and looks like it weights more than a building. She's built and buff and uses this thing effortlessly to stir this giant cauldron in the center of the Peak that is as big as a house. It's a smaller Peak but always a flurry of activity! The System, deciding it will at least try and work with this, starts giving SY Taste Points as he improves. Occasionally, it will even give him little quests for bonus points! Usually it's for meeting new people, at the start, or learning certain techniques on his Peak. He notices that he usually get these 'Meet x Person' quests when on other Peaks, though... like that really sad looking but polite boy on Qiong Ding, the sort of nervous and mousy kid from An Ding, the sharp tongued girl from Xian Shu- even the real scary guy from Bai Zhan! Then after he gets those quests done, they always turn into a 'Befriend X Person' quest after... which is way harder but rewards more T Points!

(DID YOU THINK THIS WAS JUST A PEAK LORD AU BTW? NO NO NO! IT'S ALSO A QING DISCIPLE AU! HA! >:D) But why does he even WANT the T Points? Well, Guardian Spirit/System says it will provide him special memory rewards! SY rationalizes this as thinking he's receiving visions from a past? future? reincarnation of himself, which the System does not correct. It's usually smaller things about his old life, with the real important stuff all locked away behind higher and higher Points. The System will also provide him with small boosts to his palate (his was quite shit) and sometimes even... cookbooks! Part of being a Food Cultivator is enhancing your QI and Spiritual Veins by eating food that is both delicious as well as Spiritually Enhanced. This isn't just cooking in the kitchen with mama time, this is an ART. Only the best of the best have the refined palate, knowledge base, and skills to make their own recipes. It's fairly common on the Peak for the Masters to work for YEARS to try and make SOMETHING of their own they can be proud of! When SY is like 15, enough time to get to know his fellow (future) Peak Lords, he gets a special quest: [ BECOME HEAD DISCIPE ]. For the first time, THIS quest has a time limit (two years!), and the System warns him of graaaaaave consequences if he is not able to do so....

This lights a fire under his ass a bit and makes him panic! See, SY has all these cookbooks from the System, and he can even make some of the recipes! But most of them ask for all these ingredients he FEELS like he should know but he's never really heard of.... And some of the techniques are so strange, too! The System offers him a special upgrade (for what is, at the time, probably almost all this T-Points): A taste-alike Beastiary!

So, Ancient China did not have a lot of modern fruits and veggies from around the world. PIDW? Aside from a few things ones cause Airplane was a hack writer, mostly the same! But you know what PIDW does have? Lots of weird demons and animals and spirit beasts and flowers. The next time SY looks at a cookbook he will see little (???) next to the stuff he doesn't recognize. But also! There was this one recipes he wanted to make, and he had everything except for ONE thing to make it, and it has a (Inferno-Harpy-Vulture Egg) next to it. So! It shows him stuff he can SUBSTITUTE! Provided... he knows the name of the plant or animal already....

SY had always had a passion for the weird beasts and creatures he sometimes saw, but no reason to act on learning more since he was so busy.... but with this he can totally indulge! AND it will help him with his goal! Double win!

At some point in all his fumbling, he makes better connections with the Future Peak Lords, gets a reputation as being very reliable and kind (if a bit danger prone and sharp tongued at times), and is earning the attention of his buff Shizen. After getting a lot of T-Points, he manages to uncover some of the more expensive Memories....

Which warn him of a cruel villain named Shen Quinqui. An abusive man who was just the worst! Basically, all the stuff SY thought he knew about him in SV. AND the guy was gunna cause the world to end or something? UGH! Why didn't anyone DO anything about that guy in the future? :( The System says he's not allowed to tell anyone, but if he keeps working, maybe he can change Fate! Now, you're probably like 16 paragraphs into this and like 'okay, this is all super cool and you're really smart. but where is SJ at???' Well, he is HERE!

See, while SY had been to Qing Jing Peak multiple times, he's never actually got a Quest to meet anyone from there which is super weird! But he's called over there to act as a chef for a few weeks because one of the guys who usually does it is on some mission. He decides to scout out the Peak while he's there and see if he can find anyone named 'Shen' who might be the evil guy in the future.... [Mission: Meet Xiao Jiu] suddenly pops up from the System! And SY tries VERY HARD to do so! Every day he goes to work at QJ, he never meets anyone he doesn't already know. Sometimes, he hears rumors about a new kid who the Peak Lord took in and the rumors sound NASTY about him. He's only 15 (just a bit younger than SY by like a season or two!) and the guy is said to have murdered people, slept with prostitutes, perved on the girl's in their dorm there, (probably) was actually a real demon.... and was just a huge asshole. But, eventually, SY does end up meeting this mystery Xiao Jiu! He's done in the kitchen for the night and finished cleaning with the other cooks when he remembers he left something there. Going back, he finds this real skinny and lanky guy in the kitchen picking through whatever was leftover in there (not much). He's real cagey and looks ready to beat the hell out of SY for coming in there; but also like he's been caught doing something he shouldn't do. They sort of stare at each other a bit before SY hesitantly introduces himself and the guy basically runs off through the back. Rude! [Mission Complete: Meet Xiao Jiu] [Mission: Befriend Xiao Jiu]

The guy didn't even SAY anything, though! And he seemed like he wanted to beat him up! System, that doesn't seem FAIR! But... SY really wants those T Points for more future memories to try and stop whatever bad stuff is going to happen in the future, so...

Just trying to find Xiao Jiu ends up being a huge problem in of itself! This is a whole Peak and SY is mostly just here to act as a chef for a few hours in the evening. The guy never comes in and gets food, either! Does he only eat the stuff that's left in the kitchen after? But they always clean up really thoroughly so there isn't much left... and he had looked really skinny....

SY starts staying over past everyone else and leaving some extra buns and stuff he saves from dinner on the counter. Except, he gets in trouble after a day or two because the Morning Chefs had come in to find the food left there all night. Was the guy not taking it?

Eventually, he gets the idea to leave the food but... hide it. For some reason it reminds him of hiding a treat from a cat to make it want the treat more. It... sort of works? Usually only one of the buns is missing instead of the multiple he hides. But! Hey! At least the guy got some food!

Things go on like this for a while, until one night when he's heading back to his Peak, he gets sideline kicked into a dense copse of bamboo along the path. And the guy is standing over him with a sword (not a Spiritual one, but still really sharp!) at his throat. And demanding to know what SY is trying to do by leaving him food.... AAAAND I think this is long enough. For NOW. I'll write more on it when I have some time!!! My big wants is basically Feral Angry Cat SJ being slowly socialized to like the one (1) guy who keeps feeding him. They're gunna be BESTIES! (And SY just TOTALLY doesn't feel weird about thinking his best bro is pretty! That's, like super normal!)

I'm sort of half vomiting all my ideas out of my brain but also half writing a bit of a rough outline for a future fic i want to write. If this inspires you in some way, though, feel free to write stuff! Just tag me! I WANNA SEE!!!! >:)

You love browsing, impulse buys, dragging the brothers to stores, and you always have a package on the way. This is how they react/adjust to your favorite expensive pastime:

Lucifer

He’s composed on the outside, but inside? A quiet scream. The endless boxes arriving at the House of Lamentation test even his patience. It's always been bad because of Levi's habits, but along with your influx of shipments, it's overwhelming. He’ll give you a stern look when your fourth new outfit of the week arrives, arms crossed, brow raised. “Again?” he’ll ask, voice dry. He might act annoyed, but he keeps a mental note of your favorite stores and occasionally drops hints about upcoming sales. Once, he even used his Devildom connections to get you on a luxury boutique’s VIP list. “Just… control yourself.” He says, handing you the exclusive invite.

Mammon

Soulmate behavior. He enables you to the maximum. You say “shopping,” and he’s already halfway to the mall. The two of you are a dangerous duo; he’s scheming coupons while you’re scanning racks. Mammon loves matching outfits, trying on sunglasses for fun, and posing with you for mirror selfies in changing rooms. The only time he complains is when you spend too much without him getting anything. “Oi! What about me?! I'm here too!” But honestly? He’s obsessed. He brags about your sense of style and secretly loves seeing how excited you get about small things.

Leviathan

He does not understand the appeal when it's “normie stuff.” But he doesn’t protest too much, especially when you show off your haul in a little fashion show just for him. He sits cross-legged on his bed, blushing furiously, muttering praise into his hoodie. He’s especially into it if you start collecting fandom merch, he’ll even start showing you limited-edition Ruri-chan accessories and figurines. “I guess��� if you’re gonna waste Grimm, you might as well waste it on good stuff.” He won’t say it out loud, but he keeps all the little keychains you buy him.

Satan

He pretends to be indifferent. “Material things are fleeting,” he says, flipping a page of his book. But then you mention a charming little antique bookstore or a pop-up stall selling first-edition classics, and suddenly he’s throwing on a coat. Satan appreciates your eye for unique items, he even likes how enthusiastic you get about the aesthetics of it all. He starts buying you thoughtful trinkets to add to your collection, never calling it shopping, always calling it “curating.” If someone judges you for it, his temper flares: “MC’s not wasteful—they just know what they like.”

Asmodeus

You and him are like a match made in heaven hell. He sees your shopping addiction as an art form, a lifestyle. “We need to go together, darling. That way we can be fashionable and iconic.” Asmo helps you plan outfits, takes photos of you in every one, and knows exactly how to style accessories to match your mood. He’s constantly sending you links to “things that reminded me of you,” and half your wardrobe ends up coordinated with his. He thinks your packages are little gifts from the universe and treats each one like an event. Honestly? You two are menaces in malls.

Beelzebub

He doesn’t really get fashion, but he’s the best shopping companion ever. He’ll hold your bags, carry you if your feet hurt, and stay by your side patiently the entire time. Beel never complains, even when he doesn’t understand the appeal of spending so long trying on shoes. He does get excited when shopping involves food, though, you’ve definitely bribed him with snacks. He likes seeing you happy, and if buying stuff brings you joy, then he’s all for it. He doesn’t say much, but he watches you glow as you browse, and it warms something in him.

Belphegor

He’s not moving unless he has to. If you manage to drag him out, he’ll drape himself over benches or lean dramatically against store walls with a yawn. “Can I go back to bed now?” Still, he has a sharp eye for what suits you. He won’t admit it, but he quietly likes watching you try things on. He’ll mumble, “That one looks good,” while pretending not to stare. Occasionally, he’ll sneak something into your cart when you're not looking, usually something soft and cozy. “You’ll like it,” he says, and he’s always right.

Hello! I've been inactive due to the current events in the mcyt community, but I've been keeping up with the qsmp admin situation and I thought I'd share some opinions because the amount of doomposting I've seen the last few weeks has been more than I've seen in any fandom in a while and I feel like it's reached the point where people really need to chill the fuck out because they're not thinking straight and actively not helping. Everything I'm gonna say is based on stuff I've seen on both tumblr and twitter.

they should not promote/release merch! : one of the things that baffles me the most tbh; how do you expect any employee to be payed then? Merch is so far the only big source of income for the server besides q's own cc salary or whatever income they get through the official qsmp channel on twitch and youtube (which I don't think is a lot). "I get that they said they have no funds, but still it doesn't feel right"... sorry but at this point I don't know what to tell you, do you expect them to pull money out of their asses? You can't demand that they stop making merch and then complain that they can't afford the twitter admins at the same time. If you don't feel comfortable buying anything from them it's fine obviously, but if your reason for it is that you're helping the admins then I have bad news for you. I have seen people propose that quackity sets up a patreon, and while I think it would be a good idea, I understand why he's not doing it, since with the merch he can at least give something back to the people that choose to support his project instead of people just giving him money for free, especially with what's happening now. Also with how much hate he's been receiving simply for the merch I can't imagine that a patreon would be recieved well.

we don't know if the money is going to the admins/ they should not use pomme's likeness! : the money is definitely going to go to the employees and admins because otherwise the server would not last. And as much as I understand people feeling protective over pomme's admin, quackity studios is very much allowed to sell merch of the character because it is not the likeness of the admin, it's a minecraft model made by the people that work there. Would you have rathered they skip her character entirely? Do you really think that would have been okay?. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen posts and tweets saying that pomme's admin has been confirmed to come back with the other eggs whenever it happens by pierre, who talked with her admin.

the admins of the update accounts got fired, it means they want to fire everyone, they aren't making things better! : it sucks that the updates accounts had to end and I feel bad for every twitter admin that clearly cared a lot about the project, but unfortunately it had to happen if there simply isn't enough money to pay them adequately like they deserved and ultimately the update accounts were not essential to keep the project going, so it makes sense that they were let go unfortunately. This is not gonna be the case for the egg admins because if they got fired (which they didn't), the server would basically end. Just because a cc does not know when they will be back does not mean it's not gonna happen. Just because tubbo randomly said that he's not sure if they will be back does not mean they were fired; tubbo is normally not a reliable source of information, even less so when he's been live nonstop for the past 20 days, which is prior to everything happening. If you genuinely didn't expect a reduction in non essential staff considering everything, then you have unreasonable expectations on how this stuff goes. As I write this, I'm seeing people saying that "they would understand this decision if q had set up a patreon to pay the admins", and once again I don't understand how people don't realize why quackity might not be keen on the idea of having his fans pay his own employees for his own project instead of, you know, doing it himself; and, again, do not fool yourself into thinking it would be recieved well. That being said, it's fair to criticize how everything was communicated to the admins, but I'll get to this in more detail later.

quackity should not have uninstalled social media, he's trying to avoid everything! : he's not avoiding anything, he's been off social media for a while now, which is why it took him that long to remove wilbur from the server. He has every right to not want to look at social media, as his focus should be on restructuring his server instead of doomscrolling on twitter because people think he needs to see how much people dislike him. The only people that he should talk to are those that have important information to tell him, like josè with the document. He explicitly said on stream where to contact him if you have helpful information and I'm sure that despite multiple well liked posts saying not to spam his email, people are definitely doing it anyway, which is probably gonna slow the whole thing down even more. I hope josè's document is able to be seen with pierre's help as well.

quackity studios is not communicating with their employees and leaving them in the dark and that's not okay : I agree with this. i think a huge chunk of doomposting lately has been due the lack of communication not with the audience, but with the admins, and they deserve to know what is happening behind the scenes more then us since this is about their current or future job.... that being said, I do kind of understand why they're being so secretive and shutting everyone out, and that's due to all the "leaks" that have been spread online. I understand the anger but I really wish some people would realize that discussing leaked bts lore stuff in ccs discord servers does not help the situation at all and instead makes it seem like they're only doing this to rile up the fandom against quackity studios by using the lore of people's fav characters.

At the end of the day, I think people just aren't used to dealing with a situation that does not have a clear cut solution and someone to clearly hate, so the result is this doomposting and the over aggressiveness toward anything related to the project. Personally, I haven't witnessed anything that made me lose faith in the qsmp like some people have been saying, as every change that we've seen so far coincides with what quackity said on stream a while ago. I only wish things were communicated properly to the admins clearly, as they're the ones most affected, so I hope that's resolved soon. Ultimately quackity is singlehandedly restructuring the server from basically zero, has had to fire people that were misusing money and power and, depending on what josè's document said, is probably gonna have to fire some more. This is not an easy process, nor a quick one, you're not gonna hear about sunshine and rainbows for a while and doomposting about everything you hear because you expected quick change is useless. Think before you speak, have a clear head and most importantly have empathy.

Top Gun Recs

I read As Lions at the start of May and most of my fic reading since then has been Top Gun, so I figured I'd share the stories I really liked. These are all Maverick/Iceman.

Now, first of all, it goes without saying that I recommend As Lions -- time travel and Mav from the second movie dealing with the events of the first movie, showing us how the character has matured but is still essentially the same guy. It's a great, satisfying read that dragged me into a new-to-me fandom.

I'm going to separate these by time setting. So, during Top Gun training:

if you lead, i will follow by qin_ling (7,551 words): Let's start with Goose being a great wingman. Someone who knows Mav well enough to spot the tension between him and Ice might not be about flying. This is fun and upbeat.

The Wingman by alby_mangroves (4,200 words): One of the best parts of fandom is getting different views of these characters. Yes, I like the idea of one or both of them being repressed and awkward as hell about it, but I also like this option: closeted and cocky as hell. The idea of them screwing throughout the first movie has a definite appeal.

Directly after Top Gun and the first film (which frequently features the idea of them both teaching at Top Gun together for a few years):

Gravity by qin_ling (2,959 words): I really love this. It's sparse and it's so deftly written. It captures so much of them and the pacing is lovely. Ice and Maverick after the first movie, a friendship shifting into more.

the heart it beats by susiecarter (2,926 words): Again, this is a short, deftly written piece. On paper, it's a simple idea: Maverick after the first movie, deciding he's not suited to teaching at Top Gun, and how wanting a transfer impacts his new relationship with Ice. But the author uses the frame of five things Maverick loves to reveal what's really going on, and does a great job of capturing this awkward stage of a relationship, trying to figure out where you stand (between two guys who are not good at talking about this stuff. They would much rather be flying than have to talk about emotions). It's short, but it stayed with me.

Kings of the Air by FabulaRasa (24,903 words): Sometimes, you have to judge a story by how often you find yourself muttering to the characters in your phone, telling them that this is going to end badly. And this is absolutely one of those stories where I heard myself muttering, "Oh, Mav, no, bad idea," out loud. Mav is charming but he's headstrong and impulsive, and doesn't think through the consequence, and I have a soft spot for repression fic done well. For Mav being someone who doesn't know how to approach another man for sex, certainly doesn't have the maturity or self-reflection to approach it in a reasonable, adult way -- and yet, they somehow figure it out.

Moving In Slow Motion by boasamishipper (7,516 words): There was only one bed is a trope for a really good reason. There is something so satisfying about that awkward intimacy, being so close to what you want and not being able to have it. Yearning and stolen embraces, people, I'm here for it.

Later in their careers/up to and past the second movie:

vantage by pepistle (32,340 words): Outsider POV on working for Admiral Iceman Kazansky. I really love reading about Ice working his way up. I like a smart, ambitious, controlled character, especially one who is professionally competent and intimidating. (No one who knows my taste in fictional characters will be surprised by this.) And I like this view of Ice from the outside, of slowly getting to see glimpses behind the professional facade.

The Importance of Personal Connections by DancingDisaster (32,246 words): "There are few things more universally feared in the Navy than owing Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky a favor." This is, techincally, the fourth in a series. The previous story, Time and Tide is a good take on them getting together and breaking up before Top Gun, and working their way back to each other, but I prefer this. I love seeing Ice rise through the ranks, seeing what he learns from the senior officers before him and how he treats his subordinates. I also love how clear it is that he loves Mav, but that doesn't stop him from being very irritated by Mav at times.

When We Get Around to Talking About It by COMPACFLT (97,722 words): Another story where we get to follow Ice for the thirty years from the first movie to the second. The first and last chapter are from outside POV, but the rest of this story is solidly told from Ice's perspective and there are two things this story does that I love. Firstly, Ice and Mav never really come to grips with sexuality or even terms for it: it's not something either of them are comfortable talking about or even thinking about head-on, and there's something fascinating about a character who has such a sideways approach to their own happiness. There's no doubt that they want each other, but there are always rationalisations and not looking at it too closely, avoiding having to deal with what that might mean. (Honestly, what it means is they're both bi and fell hard for each other.) The other thing I love is pulling Rooster's application, how grief and fear can make you do stupid things, how love for someone can make you go along with something you know is wrong. And sometimes you make mistakes in life and you just have to live with them.

A Good Landing by adiduck (book_people) (51,152 words): This is set after the second movie, with Ice healing from pneumonia and Mav healing from a fair number of fractures from ejecting. As someone who fractured her foot at 39 and walked on it for a week and a half (and then got stuck in a moonboot for three months as it healed), I have a definite sympathy for Maverick here. Suddenly being helpless sucks, but Ice insists on Mav staying with him until they're both healed. I love that we have these 60 y.o. guys who know each other so well, who are both healing and adapting, and sometimes friends-to-lovers is just the best.

AUs - I usually love AUs but I honestly haven't read many in this fandom:

just to see each other (feel it all) by susiecarter (35,125 words): I love a good Pacific Rim fusion, and this delivers. Maverick losing Goose is such a strong narrative beat and it works perfectly here, all within the world of Pacific Rim and drifting. (And this fic comes with three lovely illustrations)

Mr. Swipe Right by ReformedTsundere (18,062 words): it's a cute little dating-by-app AU, a good excuse for smut and connection. But it's fun and an easy read.

how to write children's personalities

(this is part of my series, how to write children in fanfiction! feel free to check it out if you want more info like this!)

this is the main aspect of writing children that i see people mess up so often, especially in the fandoms i'm in (sanders sides and undertale). children are not adorable little noodles with no brains and no concept besides being cute and silly and crying. children are beings that are just as complex as adults, and they deserve personalities to match. this will make them way more interesting to read about! let's get started!

since there are so many aspects to personality to talk about and i don't want to sit here typing for ten years, we're going to do this guide a little differently. i'm going to divide these issues into archetypes, write a short description, and then make a list of do's and don't's for each one!

archetype one: the cute little baby

okay. babies are cute. we all know this, and i'm not saying it's a bad thing to make your babies cute. a lot of people love reading about moments with adorable little babies. but here are some ways to step this kind of thing up, and some things to avoid if you want to improve upon writing this archetype.

do's:

give the child character another archetype besides this one. though "cute" is the foundation for a lot of child characters, it's not a personality. and if a character is vital to your story, then it needs a personality. that's just a rule. you will read more about other archetypes further along in this post!

make the moments symbolic. though it doesn't seem like it from an outsider's perspective, basically everything a baby does is for a reason, and every action a baby makes can say something about their personality. if you want this baby's personality to be energetic and curious, have them crawl around and explore things, and laugh a lot, and babble. if you want this baby to be more sullen and shy, have them cry quietly instead of wailing, or have them squirm when being held by new people.

make the actions of the baby's guardians affect the mannerisms of the baby. babies act differently depending on how the people taking care of them act and react. for instance, if the baby's guardians are very busy people, then maybe have the baby cry very loudly whenever they want something, since they know that it's the only way to get the attention of their guardians. stuff like that can add depth to a character and to a general story.

don't's:

decide that the baby is cute and call it a day. sweet little babies are cool and all, but they get very boring to read about after a while. this can barely even be considered an archetype because of how bland it is when it's by itself.

keep this archetype around for too long. as babies turn into toddlers and then children, they don't act even remotely the same way. it's strange and off-putting to read about a seven year old acting like a two-year old, unless it's a very clear character choice that is a result of explicit actions and events.

make the baby know that it's cute. realistically, children don't understand the concept of cuteness until they're around toddler age. if then, you want to make the kid be like "i get what i want when i'm cute, so i'll act cute!", then sure, that's hilarious. but when they're two months old, they're not batting their eyelashes because that's their personality. they're batting their eyelashes because they got something in their eye. the main thing that makes a baby cute is that they don't know they're cute. they're just figuring out how to do ordinary things.

make everything a cute moment. while babies are awesome, raising them isn't always sunshine and rainbows. make the baby do something wildly chaotic, because babies do wildly chaotic things all the time. not only does this make things more realistic, but it makes things very interesting!

archetype two: the shy kid

as a former shy kid, i know good and well that these types of children exist, and they are very real and valid. however, there are certain ways i've seen them written that are just terrible because once again, this archetype cannot be considered a full personality on its own. let's get into the do's and don't's.

do's:

make their shyness a deliberate choice. kids aren't usually naturally shy. kids are usually more curious than cautious. is there a reason why the kid is shy? there doesn't have to be a reason why the kid is shy, but there could be a reason why the child is NOT outgoing/curious. try and give something like this some deliberate cause, instead of just making them shy so they can seem more precious and infantilized.

make their shyness manifest in diverse ways. not all shy kids cling to their guardian's leg and sit alone during recess. there are different ways to be shy. you can be aggressively shy, or fearfully shy, or shy due to general unwillingness to change.

make their shyness have realistic consequences. someone who's shy is probably not going to have many friends, if any. not all shy kids magically meet an extrovert who adopts them. someone who's shy probably has underdeveloped social skills, which can lead to them being less emotionally intelligent down the line. this makes the shy kid archetype a lot more three-dimensional than just a wet noodle of fear.

don't's:

infantilize shyness or treat it like it makes the kid some sweet, precious angel. not only is this very uncomfortable for shy people to read, but it's generally unrealistic. shyness doesn't affect how good or bad somebody is - it's a neutral trait.

use shyness as a tool to make characters seem younger. shyness does not indicate age. fear manifests in many different ways, and shyness is not the only way.

rely on cliches. not all shy people have the same journey, and the idea that a shy person becoming more outgoing is the "goal" is not only a bit offensive, but it's very cliche. shyness is not always an obstacle to be overcome.

archetype three: the happy-go-lucky kid

oftentimes, the reason why children characters are written into stories in the first place is to give a little bit of lightheartedness and innocence. to add a unique voice among all the cranky, stingy, burdened adults. but you have to be careful when writing this archetype. i personally really dislike this archetype as a whole, but i'm going to put personal feelings towards it aside because honestly, there's no valid reason to dislike it besides opinion.

do's:

give the kid a trademark. maybe this kid makes a lot of little jokes, or maybe they always see the best in a situation. give the kid one thing that makes them happy-go-lucky instead of just giving them everything because nobody is endlessly happy all the time in every way.

go deeper. while happiness is very often genuine, sometimes, it's a mask that hides something else. this can be an interesting way to sort of spice up your happy-go-lucky kid character. maybe the kid is hiding a big secret behind all those jokes.

don't's:

make the character always happy. while children tend to have simpler thoughts, they don't have simpler minds. this child needs to have thoughts, real, genuine thoughts that aren't just happy things.

see happy-go-lucky as a trait that is exclusive to children. comparing happiness to childhood and viewing them as the only places where the other can exist is just wrong, and it's kind of depressing. maybe give happy-go-lucky kid a happy-go-lucky adult to exchange jokes with!

those are the archetypes that i see a lot. but now, i'm going to suggest a few child character archetypes that i LOVE that i don't see enough in fics! feel free to use any of these that you like. alter them, combine them! these are, in my opinion, some of the most fun child character personalities!

the spoiled brat: "i want this, and that, and that, and- why aren't you giving it to me?? if you don't give me what i want, i'll tell on you!". spoiled brats are so fun to read and write about, especially when they have absolutely no reason to be spoiled given the current situation (think riches to rags). they've got everything, humor, angst, and best of all, lots of pockets for personality. think about why the child is spoiled. were they enabled by their guardians? did they grow up rich, with access to everything they wanted? think about whether you want the child to stay spoiled. does something change? do they learn how to improve their materialistic and selfish tendencies? there are so many opportunities to play with the personality of this child!

the know-it-all kid: while i do see a lot of know-it-all kids in media, oftentimes, they don't actually have personality besides bossiness and intelligence. i love know-it-all kids who have depth to them. kids who are constantly spouting information because of their sheer love to learn. kids who have one specific thing that they know everything about, so they never stop talking about it. kids who tell people what to do and act like they know best because they don't have a lot of control over anything at home, so they grasp at whatever control they can find elsewhere. i think this archetype could open up a lot of ideas for personality further down the line. it also has a lot of variety with humor and angst, and general depth.

the serious child: this is an archetype that i cannot get enough of. i love a child that doesn't think they're an adult, per se, and still enjoys kid things, but just has such a calm and regal air about them that isn't learned. it's just natural. think of the kid that doesn't really get excited about things conventionally, but you can tell they're happy by their faint smile. the kid that seems to live in slow motion, and doesn't mind this fact at all. the kid that sits alone at recess just because other kids scare the birds away, and they want to see how a bird acts when it doesn't think its being watched. i love kids who have poignant thoughts, because their thoughts are so creative and different from adult thoughts.

the adult-ified child: now this is another archetype i can't get enough of, but it's for a different reason. this child, on the other hand, does think that they're an adult for one reason or another. maybe their guardians forced them to grow up too quickly. maybe they just wanted to grow up quickly by themselves. but this child has thoughts that are too big for their little bodies. they explore things that aren't meant to be explored when their brains are still so small. they do everything too quickly, they stumble through life as if a clock is ticking somewhere. to me, they're just haunting to read about. it feels wrong and dangerous to just watch them do things that hurt them because they don't know any better, but they're on a page. nobody can stop them. it's just so tragic, i'm obsessed.

the prodigal child: this archetype isn't really as deep or detailed as the others, but i do appreciate it. this archetype is for a child who knew who they wanted to be from an early age. a child who wanders into a ballet class and finds out they're better than the ten year olds by the time they're five. this archetype often pairs really well with the know-it-all kid or the adult-ified child because usually, children don't experience what it's like to be the best at something until they're a lot older. this is just a really cool archetype when you aren't quite sure what to do with that main character's little sister.

the chaotic child: this archetype is so much fun to read and write, to be honest. this is a child that just does as they please, whether it's out of curiosity or for pure enjoyment. think of the crazy stories that your guardians have about you or your siblings being absolutely insane. scribbling in a book and then demanding that the library publish their version. trying to ride the dog like a horse. cutting up clothes in an attempt to be a fashion designer. this one is just plain fun!

now, there are so many more archetypes out there, but those are just my spotlights and recommendations! i hope after reading this, you feel more equipt to write child characters that have real, engaging, interesting personalities!

And has themed reclists on which I know that at least several of you fuckers have been featured? And has a “so you're new to —— fandom” primer that I know at least half of you have read? And is one of the organizers of the big ficwriting event? And has advanced social skills such as “be nice to strangers,” “deescalate situations” and even wow “remembering who you are and the things you shared with her”? And never tells anyone what to ship or what to draw and write? And has commissioned at least once a translation of some lengthy additional canon material that she then shared for free? All that not enough for you??

Is it really all that mysterious that people who Possess Skills would rather make stuff for a sociable community-oriented person who writes shit smut (according to you) and not for a miserable grouch like you??

And when I tried defending my translation of her fic (bad decision, I know) by saying that there are many fics I like, but what really inspires me to translate for her is her attitude, and also that I think it’s normal for people who are nice, sociable and active in fandom to make more connections and receive more attention, I got hit with “must be nice not to be neurodivergent” and “well ackstchxually some of us cannot be nice and sociable” and “I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get some attention!” ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOURSELVES. I didn’t reply anything to any of those people cos what’s there to say but BY GOD I am going to translate for Famous Author even harder now. All of her backlog. Start writing just so I can gift her an inspired by fic. Learn to draw chibis so I can make fanart for her. Spite. SPITE.

Do you think that we are getting book 8 that will focus on Grim since we almost are on the end of book 7? And how do you feel if that what happened and we get book 8 that focus on Grim and Yuu like why are they here all of that? Last question how do you feel about twst ending? Would you stay in the fandom or find another interest? I'm not ready for that like if twst ended I will move to twst fanfics 🥲

But to be honest with how they are using the 3D animation as inspiration too now for the new events I have hope that even if the main story ended we will still have plenty of new events coming plus we have the anime coming too and manga chapters still going. I don't want this fandom to die as soon as main story end.

Honestly I don't mind if the game kept going forever 😂 not necessarily the main story but with events and talk about the world.

Okay I talked so much sorry for the rambling.

As I have stated in the FAQ section of my pinned post (I kindly ask that people check that first before sending asks because I have been asked some variant of “what do you think about a potential book 8”/“how do you want book 7 to end” dozens of times; I don’t answer them because the answer is already out there but overlooked, but I feel bad for ignoring so many people 😅):

"I want to actually see Yuu going home and the current students moving on to the next year of schooling. We could focus on how the guys have grown and are growing, how these more mature versions of the characters interact with the incoming freshmen/first years, or the long-term consequences of their OBs (particularly Malleus's, which probably caused an international crisis). It would also be cool to learn more about RSA students after book 7, but I don’t want them to rehash the OB formula."

"As for a potential book 8, I don’t know if there’s enough evidence for it? Book 7 is cramming a lot in right now so it’s possible that all the loose ends will be tied up there. Book 8 also implies a strong focus on Ramhackle, which… I know we love Yuusonas and all, but the game cannot canonically fill in their backstory a ton or it will ruin player self-inserting/projection. That means we’d have to rely on Grim and Grim alone to be the emotional crux that somehow transcends even Malleus’s chapter. Secondly, I don’t think “Twst ending” is… the best phrasing? It’s not like the game is going to shut down as soon as book 7 finishes. Live service games close when they’re no longer financially viable, not because they finished a main story arc. Several of these kinds of games continue the main story into a new arc—and while we don’t have any official confirmation of this for Twst, it would be just silly for a money and merch machine to be shut down for an arbitrary reason. If it's not broken, then don't axe it. I would be genuinely shocked if Twst just left the main story untouched after book 7, though it may take some time before new main story stuff comes out, as the writers would have to... you know, write. Running the servers based on events alone, especially when we are not guaranteed new story events every month, doesn't sound sustainable in the long term. There's still going to be new Twst stuff coming out for a long time between the manga, anime, and light novels too. That's at least a good couple of years.

Calm theory anon here again!! Lord knows I'm exhausted of this little girl but I wanted to touch on what all we have seen since Italy Birthday trip and Lukes recent like. 1. It was reported by someone who took a photo with Luke at the airport that he was alone. Meaning he flew back by himself. Rumor that he left two days before 2. We got radio silence from the group for a while. 3. Rory unfollowed sienna then it was reported on by the fan pages and then he followed her back. 4. Sienna unfollowed Jack Vine (this is the guy that Luke stays with when he didn't have a house) then it was reported on by the fan pages and she followed him back. The last couple days she's unfollowed him again. 5. Charmaine reposted on TikTok about NDA👀 6. Rory takes a trip with his mom. 7. Sienna likes a post of Hannah Dodd and Nicola from fashion week. 8. Sienna hasn't liked any type of photos of A since early August nor did she like that last Luke post. Now with all this information I'm sure we all can come up with some conclusions. I do think that Luke set up some type of NDA which in my opinion was necessary. We have to remember that Luke's management team is actually a very well-known and establish team this was told to me by people in the PR field. He doesn't have newbies. Now I'm sure that pissed a lot of his friends off. It made them keep quiet about things that they might not have wanted to be quiet about. We clearly see something going on. Now Luke liking A stuff. it was 10 1/2 hours after she posted on her grid with a story posted after four hours of the photos being live. Now the posting to her stories of the grid picture is a new thing. That didn't start till after Italy. What does that tell me? She knows that his notifications for her has been probably turned off. So in order for him to see her photos, she would have to post it in her story which he most likely watches those. This particular photo wasn't liked until after Nicola posted at the concert. I don't believe in coincidences. He got a notification that Nicole posted. Then he went online afterwards watching Nicola story. Now who to say it's not part of his NDA that he has with her that. But as I was thinking about all of this today, one of the interviews that Nic and Luke came to mind. When they were discussing red flags. And one of the questions was keeping up with an ex. Nic said something like I feel that how you speak of your ex says a lot about you or something like that. Remember, Luke listens to every single thing that Nikola has said. She's the one person in this world that he remembers how they met down to the chairs they had sat on. So he would remember stuff like this. So it could be an NDA thing or it could be him trying to be civil with his ex. Regardless of the like which does not tell you anything. The only thing that tells me is she is desperate for that like. She has to put it in her story so that he will see it, she wants that like so bad that she's doing something she never had to do before. Why does she want the like so bad? Because she can control the fandom. Every time Luke likes this girls picture people spiral. it's like on a photo. He's not commenting on it. He's not giving her heart eyes. He's not sharing it to his stories. He liked the picture. We don't know the reason why and we will never know. All I'm saying there is a lot going on BTS that's clearly evident by how they're all moving. We just gotta wait for Nicola to speak more. Remember, her voice should always outshine this girl's voice. Nicola has given us all hints that something more is happening. Let's trust her please

Here are some additional theories/thoughts I have about the SM events from today. Disclaimer: These are just my thoughts and interpretations based on all the publicly available information I have seen recently. So please do not take this as 100% fact!

N didn't post her Chappell Roan story until almost midnight her time

L THEN preceded to like A's post approximately 30 minutes after N's CR story- which at that point was technically the day AFTER A made her post

So my little delulu theory is that N went home to L after the concert with her besties, they cuddled up and caught up, N posted her story, this made L log on to IG and prompted him to do his obligatory like of miss A's post after seeing A's story

Some additional notes/thoughts:

Even if N DIDN'T go home to L, all of the available information Calm Theory Anon and I have laid out here tells me this. L DOES NOT HAVE NOTIFICATIONS ON FOR A AND IS NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT SHE IS POSTING. L IS DOING THIS WITH N THOUGH.

He also liked A's post within a really short time of N's CR story. Now, the only thing this definitively says is that L/N were on their IG accounts around the same period of time. But this was around 12:30 AM their time. It was pretty late at night, and like it's just an interestingggg coincidence if L/N were separate and just both getting on SM around the same time at that time at night. We also know N tends to go on SM when she is getting ready for bed (N has said this). And she posted the CR story around the time she most likely was getting home from the concert. I think there are just a lot of signs/clues pointing that L/N were together around midnight their time. And L was NOT at the CR concert, so that means she would have met up with L AFTER the concert. And if she was meeting L after the concert at that time at night, they were probably with each other the rest of the night. So this is what leads me to believe that N went home to L OR L got the notification for N's story and got on SM and saw A's story. The timing of it all is just very interestingggg to me 🤔

Lastly, A had to essentially BEG L for this like. Why does L still have to like her posts? I have no definitive answer. My thoughts are it's some sort of contractual agreement. Regardless, these likes have no direct indication of L/A's relationship BTS. If I look at the full picture of EVERYTHING, all the signs indicate that L/N are spending more time together (or just since August decided to start publicly hinting to the fandom that they are spending a lot of time together). And all the signs point to L/A not being on good terms, and that there was some sort of rupture in L's friend group around the Italy bday trip.

These are just my thoughts though. What does everyone else think?

After reading that and more carefully rereading the stuff in the original mizuki trans post I agree with what you're saying about it being pretty much explicitly confirmed in-game Because of the many bad faith interpretations of my ask I wanted to explain where it came from a bit. I had just come out of listening to another friend doompost/get annoyed about the "vagueness" of the event story and how it wasn't settling the trans vs crossdresser "debate" (heavy quotes there) when I saw the new reblog you made to the mizuki trans post with the line of her being explicitly transgender.

I wanted to hear where you got that from because it was also the impression that I got after reading the story but I was struggling with putting it into words when talking with said friend - honestly i probably could have phrased the ask better but oh well that's tumblr for you.

I've always read her as trans but I've weird feelings about what "being canon" means for a long time hence my fears about jumping the gun - I tended to see it as "you need to have complete 100% proof that it's true that can rebuke all bad faith arguments, and if it doesn't you can accept it as a popular headcanon with some canon support but don't go implying that it's canon" but putting it into words like that makes me realize that that's not a good approach. And just seeing you repeatedly say things like mizuki being in-text confirmed to be trans for 4 years has helped me feel more confident in that and reassess my relationship with canonity in general so genuinely, thank you so much for that.

No problem! And I'm really sorry for the flack people were giving you in the tags you literally said you wanted Mizuki to be trans in your ask. It's probably because of my response being pretty general and not necessarily directed at you for the most part; i had gotten like 4 other asks about "what are the chances mizuki is a crossdresser" so I just picked one to answer.

I mean yeah technically for it to be 100% canon it should be explicitly stated, but I tend to go off the rules that so long as there's enough sub/textual evidence and very little room for doubt, it's good as canon. Like when I said before that An and Kohane have canon romantic feelings - it's never been said outright but the evidence to prove it with little doubt is there. Technically the term canon refers to a series of works that take place in the same universe, but in fandom the term is often used to describe if character traits or ships are official or not. So Mizuki technically isn't officially a trans girl until they change the gender marker on her bio, but this event removed what little room there was for doubt, so I at the very least would consider it to be canon.

Why are people being so mean about the year theme? Did I miss something? Literally why is it bad? It's just a bit?

Like maybe I'm just autistic or it means something rude i dont know but like the "this is why you should eat before doing stuff" "we can love it ironically" "it's a dud" "it's bad" ????

I'm pretty new to the fandom so maybe I just don't know anything but I think everybody's just being mean and it seems to be widely okay and encouraged? It does not feel good spirited. I thought yall liked these people??

I think most of it is good spirited. For some people the concept of tummy buddy is uncomfortable for their own reasons. I think more than anything it's the buildup of the episode to it-- there were so many bangers that did actually rhyme and felt more theme-y or actionable. Truly I think the two hour descent into madness of the episode spread through us all. As with most mbmbam things, the name is a bit, and the reaction to it will be a bit. As one of the most highly anticipated events in the MBMBaM/McElroy community, the hype is bound to exceed whatever they land upon. Especially after the banger of twenty fungalore

Personally I was like what is happening. How is this it. And went through like five stages of grief listening throught to the end of the episode. But I have come around to committing to the bit as bonkers as it is.

My Hot Guy/Cute Guy, Over-City/Under-City AU that has a lot more going on in it now, it's grown pretty big and is organized in chronological order, not by publishing order, so I write up and down on the timeline filling in parts and pieces as I go!

TTSBC takes place in a modern/slightly sci-fi AU with superheroes, biotech, secrets to hide, trauma to unpack, and as much humor as I can attempt to fit in as well!

Features the local superheroes crushing on each other, anxious writer meets intrepid reporter, the drama professors who can't keep their hands to themselves, penpals gone wild, resident middle-aged married couple who happen to be a mobster and a mad genius, the local cottagecore lesbians, bad boy butterfly and cat lady, protective big sister, Zom-Mom and Sentient Glowstick, a very tired Guy-in-the-Chair with a permanent headache, and more yet to be added! Traveling Thieves 🪽

My dark fantasy AU! This one has some heavy themes going on, so I'd encourage reading the tags carefully before jumping in! I'm very proud of how it is turning out, dealing with breaking out conditioned headspaces, survival in a sick system, negotiating power imbalance, the power of friendship (no, really), and of course we've got elves, mercenaries, magic, swords, sorcery, rogues, redstone, and lots more fun stuff like that! Also lots of adorable birbs, one traumatized fiery boy, a mer with an attitude, a good doggo, and hurt/comfort galore! Giving everyone a chance to believe that they've all got a shot at getting lucky.

Today is all about @dame-zoom-a-lot! In today’s Mod Spotlight, we’re highlighting Zoom and all that they do for this space!

Zoom is our new Challenge Monday person! They get Monday scheduled and help us find fics for all of our special rec days. They also help out with our behind the scenes tech and functionality, offering up new ways to make our processes more efficient.

Zooms (any) started reading English fics in March 2024 when BG3 Karlach put them in a chokehold. They got into Steddie when cuips_not_cute's blinking red light randomly showed up on their dash. One day, she had a really bad day at work and wrote a silly fic about Accountant Steve inspired by Wynnfryd's 'Steve H. Who works in Accounting', and wrote a bunch more since then. He also knits, makes fan art, and codes up tools to make fanfic writing a little easier. It mods for Steddie Underdog Fics and Stranger Things Fanwork Recs

What are your favorite tropes to read?

It’s hard to say because I tend to go for authors rather than tropes. But if I had to choose, I’d say monsterfuckers or crack fics

What is your preferred way to read and find fics?

I prefer to read on my phone. I usually have a notes app open on the side so I can kind of live-blog as I read. Then when I’m done, I copy the entire thing (mostly snippets that I liked and what I thought about them) and paste that in the comment box. This does take a lot of mental bandwidth, so I re-read a lot. My most re-read fic is the a man after midnight series For finding fics… I get my short fics from stuff that people reblog (Thank you @spectrum-spectre for reblogging so many great fics). I find longer fics by reading the works of all the authors I like then following their bookmarks. I’ve also found some incredible fics and ships by beta-ing.

What’s your guilty pleasure trope?

Everything.

What makes a fic an instant yes for you to read?

If I like the summary, I’ll give anything at least a go.

What is your favorite thing about modding this page?

That it has such a strong foundation, and that I can clearly see that I’m doing something good. Stars did an amazing job setting up the basic flow of how we’re supposed to do things, and they’re also great at giving clear directions. I was honestly pretty worried about the workload at the beginning, but I think I spend maybe an hour or so, if that, doing all my work for Challenge Mondays. It’s so gratifying to see all the reblogs and reactions. This is the most supportive and active fandom I’ve had the pleasure to be in, and I think everyone’s willingness to highlight and rec each other’s work is a big part of that.

What drew you to Steddie?

The fanon. My first exposure to Steddie was from @cuips-not-cute’s Blinking Red Light. Then I just devoured all his other fics like Honeyed Affection and Blood is An Aphrodisiac. I found @lollaika’s The Agony of a Loving Gaze while looking for more stuff by cuip, and I just realized… that’s the fanon. It wasn’t just cuip. The boys being kind of unhinged and obsessed with each other. Steve doing the finger wave and twirling things around… I could go on for days, but yeah, definitely the fanon.

ANONYMOUS – Is there any older or lesser-known Steddie event from the past few years that you particularly love (if ongoing or recurring) or loved? Did you participate in any?

I’m new to the fandom (I only joined last July or so) so not really. But I’m participating in the Eddie Munson BB now and it’s been so much fun sprinting with folks.

@sidekick-hero - What makes a fanfic stand out for you?

Timing. I’m so new to fic reading and writing that if a fic introduces me to new tropes and ships, it’ll really sit with me. I already talked about Honeyed Affection and The Agony of A Loving Gaze. But there’s other fics. @runraerun’s Easy As 123 introduced me to Harringrove. @wynnyfryd’s Steve H, Who Works In Accounting inspired me to write my first fic. And @teddywesworl’s  Anemone finally got me to get rid of the stupid hangups I had about omegaverse. They really… I don’t even know the right word for how much these fics have done for me, to broaden how I see the world, what I feel like I’m allowed to enjoy. So yeah. I’ll always be grateful for them. 

@worldswcollide - What advice would you give to someone who is interested in becoming a mod in the future?

Just go for it! If you have the spare time, I’d recommend you learn the basics of Google Suites now, since Google search is turning into more and more of an utter shitshow D:

ANONYMOUS – If you make fanworks and/or daydream about Steddie, what inspires you?

For drawings, other fics. RunRaeRun has these really vivid, emotional visuals that inspired a lot of attempts, and a few actually finished stuff. AidaRonan (@aidaronan) has such detailed and gorgeous monster designs that gives me so much to work with. And I’ve been having a lot of fun drawing for FkinKindaGauche’s Mer verse. It’s so different from standard mers because there’s a lot more plant stuff going into it. For writing, life experiences. I’ve written about layoffs, getting ghosted by bots, doing taxes, etc. I didn’t always have a community to hold my hands through those experiences, so writing Steddie going through them, but together has been a lot of fun. Generative AI is crushing me right now, so I’m probably going to end up writing about that soon-ish.

ANONYMOUS – Do you participate in any other fannish activities, like making playlists, gif edits, fanart, podcasts, Pinterest boards, etc?

Not yet

@sidekick-hero – What motivates you to mod for steddieunderdogfics?

I need a lot of enrichment.

@worldswcollide – Are there skills you’ve learned as a mod that have helped you in your everyday life?

You can sort and filter google sheets as a view-only user using filtered views. I really should make a tutorial because it makes all the spreadsheets so much easier to use.

ANONYMOUS – Outside of Steddie, who is your favorite character in Stranger Things?

Whoever’s POV I’m writing at the moment.

ANONYMOUS – Have you had a particular favorite Challenge Monday or weekend theme so far (maybe because of the theme, the recs, or the engagement, or for some other reason)?

WIP fics with less than 30 comments. Comments are so motivating for writers and I’d be super proud if getting more attention on those fics inspired the authors to finish them.

@sidekick-hero – What do you like best about fandom?

The sincerity of it all. I’ve read some deliciously freaky shit. And they’ve all been written or drawn, or otherwise created only because the artist had a vision and wanted to share it. I also like that there’s a direct community. I write with other authors in the fandom. We cheer each other on and admire each others’ snippets, sketches, and eventually their work. If I comment, I’m pretty sure that the artist can see it and I hope it makes their day a little better, because they certainly improved mine.

@worldswcollide – If you absolutely HAD to choose—enemies to lovers or friends to lovers? (At least when it comes to Steddie)

For Steddie? Friends to lovers, absolutely. But I love the enemies to lovers dynamic for Harringrove. It really depends on the ship I guess. Speaking of, Ronance has such delicious enemies to lovers potential–the anguish of falling for a girl that accidentally tore out your Platonic Soulmate’s heart +_+

ANONYMOUS – For fun: What do you like to do on a rainy day?

I love rainy days. My dog is a bit reactive. So going on a nice little walk when there’s no one outside, and seeing her just relax is so fun.

ANONYMOUS – What inspired you to join the mod team?

The Writer’s Wednesdays. I learned a lot from reading the writer interviews, and I wanted to do whatever I could to help keep the blog going.

ANONYMOUS – How different is modding this space versus others you’ve modded?

I’m new to modding, so I don’t really have a good answer. I only mod this space and another stranger things fan art blog that I started because I was inspired by this blog. This space has a lot more structure and more events (Stars is fantastic I don’t know how they do it).

ANONYMOUS – You mentioned in your bio you like to code things to make writing easier, what sort of projects do you like to make?

I like doing quick and dirty projects that automates one simple task for me without needing to worry too much about maintainability or scalability and all the other fun stuff. I’m most proud of a text generator tool for Ao3 

ANONYMOUS – Outside of Steddie, what other ST fanfic tropes are your favorite?

Errr… I don’t really have a specific trope that I like for just Steddie. But creatures? The weirder, the more non-human, the better. I adore fics that feature the Upside Down more prominently, and as its own ecosystem. I think that’s the Dungeon Meshi girlie in me. Speaking of, y’all should go check out @fkinkindagauche’s PANDO

Fandom documentation: so far I noticed 3 things about Tenna

I was a little worried that He was gonna get overshadowed by Chapter 4. Didn't happen, the chapters are kinda getting treated equally (probably because we need to Balance the fun with the Angst)

In regards of memes, uhh, I think Tenna IS kinda the only or Main one with like, a Main meme? Which are "Family feud" (???) animatics. I don't think it's a Kris where the fuck are we, or Ralsei smoking a fat blunt, but more on par with the "that makes you a Beta cuck" Berdly animatics

Instead of replacing Spamton, they're being shipped together. I Love it, this is how it's supposed to Go. Tenna is even shipped with Mettaton, that's how it's supposed to go. I mean Tenna has a very shippable Charm to him I guess.

general fandom observations:

Overall that kinda flows into my Observation of like, we are not just leaving almost 4 years of brainrott behind us over night, we're carrying it into the next chapters of our fandom life. So we still have memes that feel like pre- Chapter 3&4 but are also starting the "new Chapter Phase" where we're right now just starting Out with drawing and memeing the actual Events of the Game instead of going fandom Meta about it. Could also be because the game's been.out for Like 10 Days...

Also, since people start to understand Ralsei more, I wonder If this will carry over into Ralsei memes? My perception of them (pre 3&4 ralsei memes) was that He was mostly Just a silly Billy with some speculated Angst Here and there, meanwhile everyone was speculating about His Secret evil motives n stuff.

I have Heard that Ralsusie is getting more popular, haven't noticed that yet though, but I'm all for it, they have a great dynamic. I Like any combination of the 3 Main funGang member btw, Ralsusie isn't my Main dr ship or anything, that would be the fun polycule

People are seemingly Fighting about Toriel being a Bad Mom, or her deserving a Break. My Take on this is, that both Toriel and Kris Had (probably) a shitty day and Toriel is justified to let loose a little, but we can simuntaniously acknowledge that Kris really needed Support, or Just a Break to Rest, and that Toriel, If anything Just makes their current discomfort worse. Wrong place wrong time kinda deal

The theories are slowly starting to Form. The only one I've really seen getting bigger that I also know as well (meaning I saw a YouTube Video was amde about it) is the "Susie isn't the Girl from the profecy" theory.

People are announcing that they're Not gonna Tag spoilers anymore

With the Book of Bill that came out recently and the amount of new things that have been revealed, I think it's clear for everyone that the canon existence of the multiverse and alternate timelines has given the fandom a lot to talk about. Some of the ones that have been most pointed out have been the Dipper who didn't get his body back from Bill, the Mabel zombie, Dipper in the digital world, Mabel the gnome queen, Dipper killed by Gideon and even Mabel possesed by Bill. I, however, haven't seen that many people talk about that one specific timeline that we can also see there, which is the one from the episode "The inconveniencing" where Mabel dies from eating too much Smile Dip (can't exactly remember where she is at the image with the other timelines, but she's there in some corner). I get that some (if not all) of this alternate timelines are pretty dark, but I think this one is not nearly talked about enough. I mean, imagine you're Dipper and you decided to lie about your age to look good infront of your crush so she lets you hang out with her and her older friends, tag your sister along and you all go to a creepy abandoned convenience store that is supposedly haunted. Everything is cool at first, then you see your sister find some discontinued candy which you know is banned from the country for being highly toxic, yet you get quickly distracted by the fun and games. You have fun and play around with your crush and her friends, completely distracted from whatever it is your sister is doing or how she is. During a breif moment, you see her again and notice that maybe she's eating too much from that stuff because she's clearly hallucinating due to the toxic contents of the candy, and yet again, the fun and attention your crush is giving you by saying you'rr pretty mature for your age redirect your attention away from your sister. A while passes and you probably realize you haven't heard her in a while, like not even the slightest sound of her or sign that she's doing anything. No laughing, screaming, jumping, footsteps, and you probably wonder if it was a good idea to let her eat that much candy, so you figure you should go check on her only to find out that she's passed away right there, probably surrounded by empty Smile Dip packages and covered in sugar. Just like that, she's gone. That's not even paranormal or anything, that's just... sad. A literal intoxication, which is like, super real. Probably the realest death in all these alternate timelines, because this is something that didn't even happen because of a sueprnatural event related to Gravity Falls; it was just... a consequence of various bad and irresponsible decisions. Of course I do know that in this episode of the series there's a whole ghost situation but that isn't even related to the Mabel's death itself; it happened on it's own. And we don't know how these events ended up happening, if they did happen, exactly. I can just speculate and form an idea of what most likely was the course of events. I'm guessing it could be during the scene where Dipper asks Mabel how many Smile Dips she had and she answers "Bleven-teen" could be a good reference of when she passed away on that alternate timeline. Like maybe Dipper is seeing the store is haunted, he goes and tries to ask his sister for help since no one is answering the phone at the mystery shack just to find that she's dead (which I would hope made the whole group leave the store before even attempting to step on the place where the owners died, but who knows how that turned out). Anyway, I could be here all day trying to speculate a hundred different scenarios from a hundred different timelines, but I'd rather leave that for another time maybe
