Mikey Way debuts his Dark Horse Comics series, Christmas 365
Anna Zanes | July 24, 2024
Full article under the cut:
It might still be sunny out, but Mikey Way is stuck on Christmas. Alongside co-writer Jonathan Rivera and illustrator Piotr Kowalski, with Brad Simpson on colors, the My Chem guitarist-cum-graphic novelist (Electric Century, Collapser) has announced Christmas 365, an upcoming series with Dark Horse Comics, also home to Gerard Way’s Paranoid Gardens and The Umbrella Academy. This oddly feel-good story, bizarre and magical as it is loaded with gallows humor, follows the arc of Peter Rockwell and his family as they navigate the treacherous holiday season, aided by some words of wisdom from a strip mall Santa. Way describes the surreal satire astutely: “Like most kids growing up, I would often fantasize, ‘What if [Christmas] never had to end?’ That very thought was what sparked this story.” Though it's got the spirit of The Nightmare Before Christmas and the kooky suburban charm of Better Off Dead — this team has created a series that’s fresh, surprising, a bit spooky, and entirely their own.
In speaking to their process, AP connected with co-writers Way and Rivera. “Finally being able to tell this story is a real dream come true! The idea came about a decade ago, and there were plenty of starts and stops in the process,” Way shares. “Putting it in comic form felt like the perfect way to tell the story exactly how we envisioned it after so many years of wanting to share it with the world. Let's be honest, I don't think there's a kid alive who hasn't wished Christmas would never end. Haven't we all fantasized about it being something we got to live day after day?” He continues, “I saw this as an opportunity to tell a funny but heartfelt story, in the vein of all of the classic ’80s and ’90s Christmas movies that I loved so much. I remember watching Home Alone and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation back to back one night and wondering, ‘What story is left to tell?’ An hour or two later, the framework for Christmas 365 was born.”
The connection between co-writers has been an ongoing one, though this project sees it come to fruition. “It's been really fulfilling getting to finally write a story with Jonathan Rivera, who is one of my best friends — I think we've known each other over 20 years now,” Way says. As for the rest of the highly experienced team, “Piotr Kowalski and Brad Simpson brought the story to life exactly as we imagined, giving it the feel and imagery of a ’90s Christmas movie through and through. Daniel Chabon has been a terrific editor to work with and really helped us keep the story focused. I am sure this goes without saying, but it has been a real honor to be able to put out a comic under the Dark Horse banner. The folks over there have always been super kind and supportive to me, and have a rich history with my brother. So to be joining the ‘family’ with my own story to tell is pretty surreal!”
Rivera, also known for Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye, adds, “Mikey and I had been talking about this story for a while, but it really started to come together as a comic during the pandemic. We’re living in stressful times, so it felt so cathartic to work on such a sweet and strange story about forgiveness and spending time with the people we love. It’s also the type of story we rarely see in comics, and that made me really excited as well.”
For the writer, a goal has been achieved with this project. Dark Horse has long been a northern star in the industry for Rivera, who caps the chat off with, “I’ve been a fan of Dark Horse comics since I picked up their first Aliens vs. Predator miniseries as a kid. I later worked with them when I ran the official Myspace for The Umbrella Academy back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. So it brings me great joy to come home again with a book that means so much to me!”

“Elliot Page doesn’t remember exactly how long he had been asking.
But he does remember the acute feeling of triumph when, around age 9, he was finally allowed to cut his hair short. “I felt like a boy,” Page says. “I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mom if I could be someday.” Growing up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Page visualized himself as a boy in imaginary games, freed from the discomfort of how other people saw him: as a girl. After the haircut, strangers finally started perceiving him the way he saw himself, and it felt both right and exciting.
The joy was short-lived. Months later, Page got his first break, landing a part as a daughter in a Canadian mining family in the TV movie Pit Pony. He wore a wig for the film, and when Pit Pony became a TV show, he grew his hair out again. “I became a professional actor at the age of 10,” Page says. And pursuing that passion came with a difficult compromise. “Of course I had to look a certain way.”
We are speaking in late February. It is the first interview Page, 34, has given since disclosing in December that he is transgender, in a heartfelt letter posted to Instagram, and he is crying before I have even uttered a question. “Sorry, I’m going to be emotional, but that’s cool, right?” he says, smiling through his tears.
It’s hard for him to talk about the days that led up to that disclosure. When I ask how he was feeling, he looks away, his neck exposed by a new short haircut. After a pause, he presses his hand to his heart and closes his eyes. “This feeling of true excitement and deep gratitude to have made it to this point in my life,” he says, “mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety.”
It’s not hard to understand why a trans person would be dealing with conflicting feelings in this moment. Increased social acceptance has led to more young people describing themselves as trans—1.8% of Gen Z compared with 0.2% of boomers, according to a recent Gallup poll—yet this has fueled conservatives who are stoking fears about a “transgender craze.” President Joe Biden has restored the right of transgender military members to serve openly, and in Hollywood, trans people have never had more meaningful time onscreen. Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling is leveraging her cultural capital to oppose transgender equality in the name of feminism, and lawmakers are arguing in the halls of Congress over the validity of gender identities. “Sex has become a political football in the culture wars,” says Chase Strangio, deputy director for transgender justice at the ACLU.

And so Page—who charmed America as a precocious pregnant teenager in Juno, constructed dreamscapes in Inception and now stars in Netflix’s hit superhero show The Umbrella Academy, the third season of which he’s filming in Toronto—expected that his news would be met with both applause and vitriol. “What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia,” says Page. “That’s essentially what happened.” What he did not anticipate was just how big this story would be. Page’s announcement, which made him one of the most famous out trans people in the world, started trending on Twitter in more than 20 countries. He gained more than 400,000 new followers on Instagram on that day alone. Thousands of articles were published. Likes and shares reached the millions. Right-wing podcasters readied their rhetoric about “women in men’s locker rooms.” Casting directors reached out to Page’s manager saying it would be an honor to cast Page in their next big movie.
So, it was a lot. Over the course of two conversations, Page will say that understanding himself in all the specifics remains a work in progress. Fathoming one’s gender, an identity innate and performed, personal and social, fixed and evolving, is complicated enough without being under a spotlight that never seems to turn off. But having arrived at a critical juncture, Page feels a deep sense of responsibility to share his truth. “Extremely influential people are spreading these myths and damaging rhetoric—every day you’re seeing our existence debated,” Page says. “Transgender people are so very real.”
That role in Pit Pony led to other productions and eventually, when Page was 16, to a film called Mouth to Mouth. Playing a young anarchist, Page had a chance to cut his hair again. This time, he shaved it off completely. The kids at his high school teased him, but in photos he has posted from that time on social media he looks at ease. Page’s head was still shaved when he mailed in an audition tape for the 2005 thriller Hard Candy. The people in charge of casting asked him to audition again in a wig. Soon, the hair was back.
Page’s tour de force performance in Hard Candy led, two years later, to Juno, a low-budget indie film that brought Page Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations and sudden megafame. The actor, then 21, struggled with the stresses of that ascension. The endless primping, red carpets and magazine spreads were all agonizing reminders of the disconnect between how the world saw Page and who he knew himself to be. “I just never recognized myself,” Page says. “For a long time I could not even look at a photo of myself.” It was difficult to watch the movies too, especially ones in which he played more feminine roles.
Page loved making movies, but he also felt alienated by Hollywood and its standards. Alia Shawkat, a close friend and co-star in 2009’s Whip It,describes all the attention from Juno as scarring. “He had a really hard time with the press and expectations,” Shawkat says. “‘Put this on! And look this way! And this is sexy!’”
By the time he appeared in blockbusters like X-Men: The Last Stand and Inception, Page was suffering from depression, anxiety and panic attacks. He didn’t know, he says, “how to explain to people that even though [I was] an actor, just putting on a T-shirt cut for a woman would make me so unwell.” Shawkat recalls Page’s struggles with clothes. “I’d be like, ‘Hey, look at all these nice outfits you’re getting,’ and he would say, ‘It’s not me. It feels like a costume,’” she says. Page tried to convince himself that he was fine, that someone who was fortunate enough to have made it shouldn’t have complaints. But he felt exhausted by the work required to “just exist,” and thought more than once about quitting acting.
In 2014, Page came out as gay, despite feeling for years that “being out was impossible” given his career. (Gender identity and sexual orientation are, of course, distinct, but one queer identity can coexist with another.) In an emotional speech at a Human Rights Campaign conference, Page talked about being part of an industry “that places crushing standards” on actors and viewers alike. “There are pervasive stereotypes about masculinity and femininity that define how we’re all supposed to act, dress and speak,” Page went on. “And they serve no one.”
The actor started wearing suits on the red carpet. He found love, marrying choreographer Emma Portner in 2018. He asserted more agency in his career, producing his own films with LGBTQ leads like Freeheld and My Days of Mercy. And he made a masculine wardrobe a condition of taking roles. Yet the daily discord was becoming unbearable. “The difference in how I felt before coming out as gay to after was massive,” says Page. “But did the discomfort in my body ever go away? No, no, no, no.”
In part, it was the isolation forced by the pandemic that brought to a head Page’s wrestling with gender. (Page and Portner separated last summer, and the two divorced in early 2021. “We’ve remained close friends,” Page says.) “I had a lot of time on my own to really focus on things that I think, in so many ways, unconsciously, I was avoiding,” he says. He was inspired by trailblazing trans icons like Janet Mock and Laverne Cox, who found success in Hollywood while living authentically. Trans writers helped him understand his feelings; Page saw himself reflected in P. Carl’s memoir Becoming a Man. Eventually “shame and discomfort” gave way to revelation. “I was finally able to embrace being transgender,” Page says, “and letting myself fully become who I am.”
This led to a series of decisions. One was asking the world to call him by a different name, Elliot, which he says he’s always liked. Page has a tattoo that says E.P. PHONE HOME, a reference to a movie about a young boy with that name. “I loved E.T. when I was a kid and always wanted to look like the boys in the movies, right?” he says. The other decision was to use different pronouns—for the record, both he/him and they/them are fine. (When I ask if he has a preference on pronouns for the purposes of this story, Page says, “He/him is great.”)
A day before we first speak, Page will talk to his mom about this interview and she will tell him, “I’m just so proud of my son.” He grows emotional relating this and tries to explain that his mom, the daughter of a minister, who was born in the 1950s, was always trying to do what she thought was best for her child, even if that meant encouraging young Page to act like a girl. “She wants me to be who I am and supports me fully,” Page says. “It is a testament to how people really change.”
Tumblr media
Another decision was to get top surgery. Page volunteers this information early in our conversation; at the time he posted his disclosure on Instagram, he was recovering in Toronto. Like many trans people, Page emphasizes being trans isn’t all about surgery. For some people, it’s unnecessary. For others, it’s unaffordable. For the wider world, the media’s focus on it has sensationalized transgender bodies, inviting invasive and inappropriate questions. But Page describes surgery as something that, for him, has made it possible to finally recognize himself when he looks in the mirror, providing catharsis he’s been waiting for since the “total hell” of puberty. “It has completely transformed my life,” he says. So much of his energy was spent on being uncomfortable in his body, he says. Now he has that energy back.
For the transgender community at large, visibility does not automatically lead to acceptance. Around the globe, transgender people deal disproportionately with violence and discrimination. Anti-trans hate crimes are on the rise in the U.K. along with increasingly transphobic rhetoric in newspapers and tabloids. In the U.S., in addition to the perennial challenges trans people face with issues like poverty and homelessness, a flurry of bills in state legislatures would make it a crime to provide transition-related medical care to trans youth. And crass old jokes are still in circulation. When Biden lifted the ban on open service for transgender troops, Saturday Night Live’s Michael Che did a bit on Weekend Update about the policy being called “don’t ask, don’t tuck.”
Page says coming out as trans was “selfish” on one level: “It’s for me. I want to live and be who I am.” But he also felt a moral imperative to do so, given the times. Human identity is complicated and mysterious, but politics insists on fitting everything into boxes. In today’s culture wars, simplistic beliefs about gender—e.g., chromosomes = destiny—are so widespread and so deep-seated that many people who hold those beliefs don’t feel compelled to consider whether they might be incomplete or prejudiced. On Feb. 24, after a passionate debate on legislation that would ban discrimination against LGBTQ people, Representative Marie Newman, an Illinois Democrat, proudly displayed the pride flag in support of her daughter, who is trans. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, responded by hanging a poster outside her office that read: There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE.
The next day Dr. Rachel Levine, who stands to become the first openly transgender federal official confirmed by the Senate, endured a tirade from Senator Rand Paul about “genital mutilation” during her confirmation hearing. My second conversation with Page happens shortly after this. He brings it up almost immediately, and seems both heartbroken and determined. He wants to emphasize that top surgery, for him, was “not only life-changing but lifesaving.” He implores people to educate themselves about trans lives, to learn how crucial medical care can be, to understand that lack of access to it is one of the many reasons that an estimated 41% of transgender people have attempted suicide, according to one survey.
Page has been in the political trenches for a while, having leaned into progressive activism after coming out as queer in 2014. For two seasons, he and best friend Ian Daniel filmed Gaycation, a Viceland series that explored LGBTQ culture around the world and, at one point, showed Page grilling Senator Ted Cruz at the Iowa State Fair about discrimination against queer people. In 2019, Page made a documentary called There’s Something in the Water, which explores environmental hardships experienced by communities of color in Nova Scotia, with $350,000 of his own money. That activism extends to his own industry: in 2017, he published a Facebook post that, among other things, accused director Brett Ratner of forcibly outing him as gay on the set of an X-Men movie. (A representative for Ratner did not respond to a request for comment.)
As a trans person who is white, wealthy and famous, Page has a unique kind of privilege, and with it an opportunity to advocate for those with less. According to the U.S. Trans Survey, a large-scale report from 2015, transgender people of color are more likely to experience unemployment, harassment by police and refusals of medical care. Nearly half of all Black respondents reported being denied equal treatment, verbally harassed and/or physically attacked in the past year. Trans people as a group fare much worse on such stats than the general population. “My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and to be where I am today,” Page says, “and of course I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the ways I can.”
Tumblr media
Since his disclosure, Page has been mostly quiet on social media. One exception has been to tweet on behalf of the ACLU, which is in the midst of fighting anti-trans bills and laws around the country, including those that ban transgender girls and women from participating in sports. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves says he will sign such a bill in the name of “protect[ing] young girls.” Page played competitive soccer and vividly recalls the agony of being told he would have to play on the girls’ team once he aged out of mixed-gender squads. After an appeal, Page was allowed to play with the boys for an additional year. Today, several bills list genitalia as a requirement for deciding who plays on which team. “I would have been in that position as a kid,” Page says. “It’s horrific.”
All this advocacy is unlikely to make life easier. “You can’t enter into certain spaces as a public trans person,” says the ACLU’s Strangio, “without being prepared to spend some percentage of your life being threatened and harassed.” Yet, while he seems overwhelmed at times, Page is also eager. Many of the political attacks on trans people—whether it is a mandate that bathroom use be determined by birth sex, a blanket ban on medical interventions for trans kids or the suggestion that trans men are simply wayward women beguiled by male privilege—carry the same subtext: that trans people are mistaken about who they are. “We know who we are,” Page says. “People cling to these firm ideas [about gender] because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate all the wonderful complexities of people, the world would be such a better place.”
Even if Page weren’t vocal, his public presence would communicate something powerful. That is in part because of what Paisley Currah, a professor of political science at Brooklyn College, calls “visibility gaps.” Historically, trans women have been more visible, in culture and in Hollywood, than trans men. There are many explanations: Our culture is obsessed with femininity. Men’s bodies are less policed and scrutinized. Patriarchal people tend to get more emotional about who is considered to be in the same category as their daughters. “And a lot of trans men don’t stand out as trans,” says Currah, who is a trans man himself. “I think we’ve taken up less of the public’s attention because masculinity is sort of the norm.”
During our interviews, Page will repeatedly refer to himself as a “transgender guy.” He also calls himself nonbinary and queer, but for him, transmasculinity is at the center of the conversation right now. “It’s a complicated journey,” he says, “and an ongoing process.”
While the visibility gap means that trans men have been spared some of the hate endured by trans women, it has also meant that people like Page have had fewer models. “There were no examples,” Page says of growing up in Halifax in the 1990s. There are many queer people who have felt “that how they feel deep inside isn’t a real thing because they never saw it reflected back to them,” says Tiq Milan, an activist, author and transgender man. Page offers a reflection: “They can see that and say, ‘You know what, that’s who I am too,’” Milan says. When there aren’t examples, he says, “people make monsters of us.”
For decades, that was something Hollywood did. As detailed in the 2020 Netflix documentary Disclosure, transgender people have been portrayed onscreen as villainous and deceitful, tragic subplots or the butt of jokes. In a sign of just how far the industry has come—spurred on by productions like Pose and trailblazers like Mock—Netflix offered to change the credits on The Umbrella Academy the same day that its star posted his statement on social media. Now when an episode ends, the first words viewers see are “Elliot Page.”
Today, there are many out trans and nonbinary actors, directors and producers. Storylines involving trans people are more common, more respectful. Sometimes that aspect of identity is even incidental, rather than the crux of a morality tale. And yet Hollywood can still seem a frightening place for LGBTQ people to come out. “It’s an industry that says, ‘Don’t do that,’” says director Silas Howard, who got his break on Amazon’s show Transparent, which made efforts to hire transgender crew members. “I wouldn’t have been hired if they didn’t have a trans initiative,” Howard says. “I’m always aware of that.”
So what will it mean for Page’s career? While Page has appeared in many projects, he also faced challenges landing female leads because he didn’t fit Hollywood’s narrow mold. Since Page’s Instagram post, his team is seeing more activity than they have in years. Many of the offers coming into direct, to produce, to act—are trans-related, but there are also some “dude roles.”
Downtime in quarantine helped Page accept his gender identity. “I was finally able to embrace being transgender,” he says.
Tumblr media
Page was attracted to the role of Vanya in The Umbrella Academy because—in the first season, released in 2019—Vanya is crushed by self-loathing, believing herself to be the only ordinary sibling in an extraordinary family. The character can barely summon the courage to move through the world. “I related to how much Vanya was closed off,” Page says. Now on set filming the third season, co-workers have seen a change in the actor. “It seems like there’s a tremendous weight off his shoulders, a feeling of comfort,” says showrunner Steve Blackman. “There’s a lightness, a lot more smiling.” For Page, returning to set has been validating, if awkward at times. Yes, people accidentally use the wrong pronouns—“It’s going to be an adjustment,” Page says—but co-workers also see and acknowledge him.
The debate over whether cisgender people, who have repeatedly collected awards for playing trans characters, should continue to do so has largely been settled. However, trans actors have rarely been considered for cisgender parts. Whatever challenges might lie ahead, Page seems exuberant about playing a new spectrum of roles. “I’m really excited to act, now that I’m fully who I am, in this body,” Page says. “No matter the challenges and difficult moments of this, nothing amounts to getting to feel how I feel now.”
This includes having short hair again. During our interview, Page keeps rearranging strands on his forehead. It took a long time for him to return to the barber’s chair and ask to cut it short, but he got there. And how did that haircut feel?
Page tears up again, then smiles. “I just could not have enjoyed it more,” he says.”

Diego Hargreeves x Fem!reader
Requested by anon: “Can you do a season 1 Diego Hargreeves x female reader one-shot where reader is his girlfriend, is a forensic scientist and met him when he was a cop, was born on the same day as him but wasn’t adopted by Reginald and can control fire, and she’s there when he reunites with his siblings after Reginald dies and gives him a comforting hug from behind when he cries and stutters as he turns Grace off? She’s basically a real life firebender from Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
A/N- I’m going to have make this into two parts just cause I didn’t want to make one part too long and just rush this, so I hope you understand anon :)
Warning- slight violence, angst but also some fluff, swearing.
———-
“We're going now live to a breaking story…”
At the sound of the fanfare playing from the tv you quickly glance up from your work and briefly watch the screen playout, not paying much attention to it and turning back to your work, tuning out the news until moments later you see patch walk up to your desk and point out to the news they’re announcing.
“Isn’t that Diego’s dad?”
You look up and narrow your gaze on the screen waiting until the picture of who they were reporting popped up, making your lips part in surprise, “...the world's most eccentric and reclusive billionaire. Sir Reginald Hargreaves…”
“Oh no,” you stand from your desk and forget your work at that instant and instead think of someone else, “Diego.” You sigh and pull your jacket off your chair, and walk around your desk to share with Patch your brief comment, “I need to go.”
——
“Diego?” You push your room door open and poke your head inside the darkened room, creating a small fire flame on your palm that brightens the whole room, showing no sign of the man you were looking for.
Probably still out on his “vigilante” business.
Turning back around you head back into the living room in silence, going unaware of the man that had walked in, only being aware as he walked up before you, seeing Diego’s face suddenly basked by the light of the fire ignited on your palm.
His face is expressionless, but his shoulders were slumped. He takes his mask off and finally mutters, “did you hear the news?”
You respond with a simple nod and cup his cheek before you speak, “how are you doing?”
He shakes his head and throws his mask on the couch, huffing out heavily and pulling away from your touch to move past you as he replies loudly, his voice trailing off as he heads into the room, “I’m fine.”
You sigh, “he was your dad Diego, it’s okay to feel sad and grieve.” Putting the fire out you spin back around and go after him, seeing the lights go on as he begins to rummage through the closet. “I understand he was not a good dad to you, but he was still your...dad.”
Diego let’s silence take over and just stands up abruptly to move to the drawer and take a couple of things from it before he shoves it in his duffel bag.
“Which means,” you continue as you walk up behind and carefully wrap your arms around his shoulders, “you have to go.”
Diego exhales deeply and nods stiffly, “yeah...but only because I need to figure out what happened, make sure his death was what they said. Will you come with me?” He asks as he lifts his hand to grab yours.
You smile and respond softly, “of course. Plus it gives me a chance to finally meet your siblings.”
Diego scoffs, “not much there, but it gives you a chance to finally meet my mom.”
“Good!” You pull away and sit on the edge of the bed, “so are we gonna tell them of my powers?”
“If you want,” he adds, resuming what he was doing, “I guess you’re lucky my dad's dead, doesn’t give him a chance to try to recruit you as a member to test on you.”
Letting out a lighthearted huff of air you add, “what superhero name do you think I would've had if he did?”
“Probably number eight.” He remarks.
You narrow your gaze and shake your head, “no like a real one,” you stroke your cheek and pretend to think hard, your eyes brightening up as you come up with a name, “how about Ember?” You raise your eyebrows and grin. “What do you think?”
Diego walks up to you and jokes, “how about dork?”
You frown and throw a pillow at his face, “hilarious!”
He smiles as he catches the pillow, “ow.” He throws at the bed and raises his eyebrow, “how long have you been thinking of that name?”
You shrug all nonchalant, “just...thought of it.” You lie, leaving out that it’s been something you’ve come up with since you were young.
Diego chuckles but pretends to believe you, “whatever you say, get ready we leave early in the morning.”
——
“Nothing seems to be tampered with….” You report, looking away from the window and turning back to the desk to see Diego put something in his pocket, you walk closer and he just hastily turns to face you. “You find something?”
“No. Nothing.”
You hum and your eyes go to the door to see a young beautiful blond woman and a vintage looking dress stop at the door frame. A bright smile decorating her lips. Her eyes land on you and then on your boyfriend Diego, her lips parting to make herself known. “Diego, why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I would’ve made cookies.”
Diego turns to face the woman and he walks up to her, putting his hand on her shoulder and talks to her in a gentle manner, turning to present you. “Mom this is my girlfriend y/n. Y/N this is Grace, my mother.”
Her smile seems to turn even brighter and wider as her eyes seem to give a twinkle. If that even was possible for a robot to do—“oh, you’re so beautiful!”
You smile and greet her, “hello, it’s lovely to finally meet you, Diego talks highly about you.”
“It’s about time Diego brought a girl home. I was worried he would be too lonely.”
Diego scoffs and shakes his head, “mom.”
Before you could tease Diego, you notice Grace's eyes drift to the desk, her smile falters and her eyes focus on you again. “Who wants cookies?” Before Diego or you could answer she turns to walk away, humming a melody that echoed in the halls as she walked further away. Diego watched her intently, his eyebrows furrowing with concern. Waiting for a moment before he looked back to you.
“Come on, my siblings should be here in a bit.”
You nod, “okay.”
——
Going based on the things Diego would say about his siblings, and on what you would read and watch of them on the news when you were younger and they were still active superheroes; you were nervous to actually meet them to say the least. Even talking to Diego for the first time was a nervous moment, even more so because you had on a crush on him when you began working at the police department. Literally any time when you would even see him you would feel butterflies in your stomach.
You wouldn’t say you were a big super fan of the Umbrella Academy, but you admired them, mainly because they could show off and use their powers to fight all the bad guys on their adventures. All while you had to hide them, so “the old man on the t.v. won’t take you away”. It really sucked, knowing you were powered, knowing you were born on the same day but having to hide unlike them. Having to really go untaught. Your parents tried to teach you, mainly how to control them when your emotions got too high, but they could only do so much since they knew nothing of what was happening. It wasn’t really until after you showed Diego what you could do, did you really know more, it wasn’t a lot but it was more than what you knew before.
So for that you were thankful. For him.
“Don’t be nervous.” Diego tried to assure you after noticing your hesitation as you walked down the staircase. “They’re underwhelming.”
You frown, “you’re only saying that because they’re your siblings.”
He stops before he reaches the main doors to yet another big room in this huge house. “It’s exactly why I’m saying it.” He tries to offer you an assuring look before he finishes his comment. “You’ll be okay.”
You take a deep breath before breathing out your short answer. “Okay.” You stop and hesitate one more time before you could completely go in, overhearing as one Diego’s siblings asked him who he had been talking to just now. At first you thought he would just wait to answer, but he answered right away and a very simple way.
“My girlfriend.”
None of them said anything right away and definitely didn’t say anything as you finally walked inside. They all were expressing a form of shock, almost as if it were impossible for Diego to have such a thing. It wasn’t until one of them, a man with long hair at the bar broke the silence with a very warm and exciting greeting.
“Hello! It’s so nice to finally meet you! I thought the day would never come.”
The corner of your lips turned slightly, but not fully because it was doubtful Diego had ever talked to any of his siblings since you began dating or at all actually until today; which meant that none of them would know about you.
“Okay.” Diego sighed as he shot the same man an odd look. “Well, that’s Klaus,” his eyes drift to the two girls and he points to them, “she’s Alison and that’s Vanya.” He turns and points to the tall, very muscular man. “And that’s Luther.” Said man offered you a tight lipped smile while Alison said a simple, “hi, it’s so nice to meet you.” And Vanya just said very shyly, “hi.”
Your smile widens but it’s still very timid, “I’m y/n, it’s nice to finally meet you guys, Diego talks a lot about you guys.”
Allison blinked in genuine surprise before she looked to Diego in shock, “oh, really? Who would’ve thought.”
Diego rolls his eyes and just adds, “she has abilities just like us, born on the same day and everything.”
“Really?” Luther finally spoke up, stepping up closer to Diego and you.
You nod, “yes, I can manipulate fire and make it myself.”
“Oh like from the cartoon with the little bald kid?” Klaus questioned curiosity before taking a drink from his beverage.
Your lips part to argue, but you find that he’s actually right. “Uh, yes actually.”
“I thought we were the only ones.” Alison queried, “dad never told us there was more.”
Diego scoffs, “I don’t know how you find that at all surprising. He was not a good man.”
“Diego,” Luther warned.
Said man's head snapped around and his eyebrows furrowed, “don’t defend him and pretend he was. He—”
“Diego.” You snapped, “don’t. Not now.” He met your eyes and huffed before he took a seat, creating a painfully awkward silence in the room that you noticed as you sat down too. None of them spoke up, or had the thought to apologize, they let it pass and only Luther dared to speak up moments later. A genuine question that too quickly turned into an argument amongst them, one you chose to stay out of and watch from your side of the couch. It was short and wasn’t as bad as he would say it would go, but it was still torture hearing them, which made you grateful to be told to go several minutes later.
Not that it was any better, Diego stayed quiet most of the time, his mind seemed to be somewhere else as his body was physically here. But you also didn’t want to bug him, he said he wasn’t affected by his father's death but he was here so...you let him have his time, he always ended up talking sometime or the other. But maybe that time wasn’t going to come anytime soon due to some blue rumbling portal opening that resulted in dropping someone Diego said was his brother. The same one with the portrait in that huge room.
It was overall to put in the fewest words crazy. And even if your curiosity was killing you about what the heck really happened, you chose to stay out of that reunion and joined when it was finally time for the funeral outside under the oak tree as Luther had put it. Putting aside the fact that it was stormy and their no actual leaves on the tree. Hmm.
Regardless you stayed close to Diego, interlacing your hand with his and feeling his unease as he stood there and heard Pogo begin to give a heartfelt speech. A moment that was ruined by Diego finally releasing what he’s been dying to say. “He was a monster.” Klaus laughed and you sighed, muttering his name as a warning, but that did not stop him as he continued. “He was a bad person and a worse father. The worlds better off without him.”
“Diego.” Allison sharply interjected.
“My name is number two.” Diego remarked, “you know why? Because our father couldn’t be bothered to give us actual names. He had mom do it.”
“Diego!” You snapped, earning nothing as he ignored you and Grace interrupted like if nothing were happening.
“Would anybody like something to eat?”
“No, it’s okay mom.” Vanya replied.
“Oh, okay.”
“Look, you want to pay your respects?” Diego pulled away and stepped to the center of the gathered group; “but at least be honest about the kind of man he was.”
“You should stop talking now.” Luther warned.
“You know, you of all people should be on my side, Number one.”
You huffed and crossed your arms on your chest, “Diego, please drop it.”
“No, just listen.”
Luther seethed, “I’m warning you.”
Diego continued pressing on the matter, “after everything he did to you? He had to ship you a million miles away.”
“Diego, stop talking.” Luther snarled.
“That’s how much he couldn’t stand the sight of you!” Diego bellowed, pressing an accusing finger on Luther's chest, making said man finally snap and punch his arm before he swung. A move Diego luckily dodged but didn’t stop and instead continued, both men ending up fist fighting in the courtyard and ruining the day.
Neither of them listened to the calls to stop either, they both continued like children. Making Pogo walk off out of anger and Five to do the same but in more of an annoyance. It wasn’t until Luther broke a statue did they break apart and made Alison walk away, whilst Diego pulled out one of his knives making you hold onto your breath and finally gasping as he threw it and the blade scratched Luther's arm. It stayed silent for a moment as they tried to process what happened, but it was also then that Diego was going to go in again, that you finally created a narrow fire blade that created a drift between the two. An action that made Diego look at you wide eyed. Surprised that you would do that.
All you did was respond with a glare before you took Grace's arm and softly told her to come with you inside. She smiled and accepted.
Just as you passed Diego you stopped and shot him a quiet but angry comment. “Unbelievable.”
He tried to grab your arm to stop you, but you pulled away and added one more thing before heading inside. “Don’t. Talk to me when you’ve calmed down.”
Diego sighed, but didn’t try to argue. Instead he watched as the fire went out as you walked inside with his mother in hand.

TUA Season 3 Wishlist
Hello everyone! Since Season 3 was announced to start filming in February of 2021, I thought that it would be fun to make a wishlist of songs that anyone would like to see in the new season. I'm quite passionate about music and often think of songs that I personally believe would fit the show well. I know a lot of others do this too and thought that it would be fun to share our beloved songs with the fandom!
Guidelines/Information
You may submit as many songs as you want!
You may submit them to my ask box or send me a message (I don’t bite!)
You may request not to have your username by your song(s) but if not I your username will be attached to your song(s).  | Ex. “Help!” by The Beatles @feralnumberfive   OR   “Help!” by The Beatles “Anonymous”
The songs don’t have to be by the original artist. If you’re submitting a special version or cover of the song, please specify that
Feel free to attach scenarios for your song(s)! They can be as brief or as detailed as you want them to be, but please try to keep it to one paragraph or less for your explanation | Ex. “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance ((Scenario: Five killing tons of enemies. He’s gone mad with anger and glee. The horror of those being slaughtered, seemingly by a teenager)) |
Some lyrics really hit hard, y’know? Similar to the scenario guideline, feel free to submit a song and lyrics from that song that you think would match a character/specific scenario | Ex. “Evil Woman” by Electric Light Orchestra (I think the lyrics, Evil woman how you done me wrong, but now you’re tryin’ to wail a different song, would match Diego’s mixed feelings on Lila if she returns in S3)
It’s not required that you have a scenario/lyrics with your submitted song(s), so no pressure! Some songs just give off good vibes that fit with the atmosphere of the show. You can even submit songs and simply say (This gives off “Character name” vibes)
You can even just name a band! Some bands have tons of bangers that just match the vibes of TUA or of a TUA character
The scenarios don’t have to be serious, they can be odd or fun!
If a song is requested more than once, I will add the amount of times it was requested in parenthesis next to it
If you see a song on the list that you really like, you can send (+1 for “insert song title here”) and I will add a tally to it
If you see a song on here that does or does not have scenario/lyric(s) and you think “Oh yeah I can imagine a scenario/lyric(s) for this!” go ahead and speak up! If requested, I will add your username to the scenario you created. If you’re not comfortable with having your username next to your scenario, I will simply put you as “Anonymous.” Same thing with the username and “Anonymous” if you want to tack on that a song gives “Character name” vibes | Ex. Song by Artist “username of person who submitted it” (Scenario: blah blah blah) || (Scenario: blah blah blah) by “username” || (Scenario: blah blah blah) by “Anonymous” || (Lyrics: blah blah blah) by “Anonymous” || (This song gives of “Character name” vibes) by “username” |
This will be open until the Season 3 Soundtrack is released (It will be fun to see if any of the songs in this wishlist are actually on the official S3 soundtrack!)
The guidelines will be updated as the wishlist progresses. Most of the time I won’t reply to the song requests sent through my ask box, but I certainly will add your requested song(s) to the list. If you see that I haven’t added your song(s) after updating the wishlist, please reach out to me. Don’t be afraid to ask me any questions!
Here’s the Playlist created from the Wishlist

Tinsel: First Christmas (A Light Fingers Christmas Special pt 1/2)
Y/N and Diego spend their first holiday as a married couple. And maybe a few siblings drop in along the way. A/N: AKA an excuse for me to write cute domestic fluff for them.  Word Count: 1756 Cross-posted to AO3: here
You leaned in, draping yourself over the back of the couch to wrap your arms around Diego’s shoulders and plant a kiss on his cheek. He smiled, turning to you and kissing you properly, until you pulled away, knowing him and his propensity for pulling you down into his lap and too busy for what that would lead to.
“I was thinking,” you said, eyes dancing. “That since this is our first year together and we’re all, ya know, married,” you dropped your voice so it was low and teasing and grinned as you said the word, “that we should do something for Christmas. Assuming you celebrate Christmas. Oh god, I married you and I don’t even know your religious beliefs or stance on denominational holidays…”
He reached up, gently removing one arm from around him so that he could lace his fingers through yours and kiss the inside of your wrist. The gesture had an instant calming effect, and you sighed, smiling softly at him.
“Dad was never one for holidays or any of that. But I can celebrate Christmas if you want,” he said, smiling back.
“I don’t want to force it on you. We could do Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, or we don’t have to celebrate if--”
“Christmas sounds nice, baby. What do you want to do for it?”
“Well...we could decorate, maybe get a little tree for the corner. Exchange presents obviously. Have some people over for dinner?”
Diego waited expectantly, knowing that if he gave you a moment, you would continue to explain without prompt.
“I was thinking Patch, and Daniel obviously. And he’ll bring Amelia. And if you wanted we could try and reach out to your siblings?” You scrunched up your nose and gave him a half-hopeful, half-nervous questioning look.
“None of them will come,” he replied sourly, annoyed at them for risking ruining your excitement even though they hadn’t actually done anything.
“It still couldn’t hurt to offer right? If we can even get a hold of them? Christmas should be about family and hope and goodness. It might be the start of a new beginning?”
He sighed. “I don’t know about all of them, but…” he looked into your shining eyes, trying not to get distracted and dazzled by how his heart fluttered when you looked at him like that, “we can try.”
“Yay!” you cheered, swiftly giving him another kiss on the cheek before straightening up with a bounce, immediately shifting into planning mode.
~
Eventually you had decided on having the party the weekend before Christmas, hoping that everyone would have the time off and no other plans. Now, the night in question had finally come, and you felt your stomach twist in nervous knots. What if no one came? What if it all went horribly wrong? This might well be Diego’s first real Christmas, and you was terrified to ruin it.
Tracking down Diego’s siblings had been difficult to say the least. Allison was on the other side of the country but apologized, somewhat insincerely, for not being able to attend. Vanya had said she’d think about it, but that it might be awkward considering where she stood with the rest of them. Luther had huffed that their mother wasn’t available and hung up when you identified yourself as a friend of Diego’s, not even giving you a chance to extend the invitation, and then no one at the Umbrella Academy would answer after that. Klaus was a leaf on the wind, and though you had put feelers out through your connections, there was no definite answer to be had as to his location or possible interest.
Finding a place to host had been another challenge, since there was no way your apartment was big enough for even the reduced guestlist to be comfortable. It had taken a lot of cajoling and pleading, a few bribes (with both cash and an invitation), and a promise to never ask him for anything again, but eventually you convinced Al to let you hold dinner at The Fighting Lion. Which was a perfect space, but required more planning to get the food and decorations there.
But you had done everything you could, and decorated your home on top of that. And now it was time to see if it paid off.
“Relax,” Diego said, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close and pressing a kiss to your temple. “It looks perfect.”
You looked around at the twinkling rainbow lights and the strings of blue and silver garland, the fake tree you had set up in the center of the ring, and the red crepe-paper covered table and smiled.
“I did do a good job didn’t I?” you asked, snuggling into his side. The motion was enough to press the little button that caused his sweater to light up and start playing music.
“I can’t believe you actually bought and willingly wore this monstrosity,” you laughed, wincing at the very tinny instrumental cover of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in your ear.
“Isn’t a tacky sweater part of the whole experience?” he answered with a smirk.
You shook your head, jingle bell earrings mixing with your laughter in one of the most beautiful symphonies Diego had ever heard.
“Sure, but there’s tacky and then there’s that.” You stretched up to kiss his cheek. “It’s cute.”
A low whistle from near the door made them jump, both of them tensing before they realized it was just the surly gym owner.
“I’m almost impressed. Wouldn’t have recognized my own place,” he quipped.
One by one, you greeted your guests, first your brother and future sister-in-law and then Patch, as they arrived. Diego hung back, feeling suddenly uncomfortable, though Patch wouldn’t let him get away without a hug and Daniel shook his hand, firm but not unfriendly. He felt like he had no idea what to do at a Christmas party, and was overwhelmed by the strange need to draw you back to his side as if he could hide himself in you.
“I think that’s everyone, so we can get dinner started,” you announced once folks had settled in. “Diego, you wanna help me get the food?”
“Oh no, Y/N, let me,” Amelia said, standing up with a smile. “They were just about to start up a conversation on workout routines.”
“Well, I wouldn't want to interrupt that,” you laughed. “Sure, Amelia, that’d be great.”
Once the food was laid out, practically a feast for an army your brother teased, everyone gathered around and the conversation and laughter flowed like wine. You were pleasantly surprised to find Daniel and Diego getting along swimmingly and felt yourself relax, looking around at this strange little family the two of you had built.
~
Suddenly, as dinner was winding down but you had judged it wasn’t quite time for pie, the doors of the gym burst open, a chill wind whistling through. Patch tensed, hand instinctively going to her waist even though she was off-duty and unarmed. Diego slid a knife out of some holster you had managed to miss (because of course he couldn’t even come to a party without at least one knife). Daniel and Amelia looked at each other nervously. Al, several cups of eggnog in, didn't seem to notice the disturbance.
“I’ve got this,” you murmured, resting your hand over Diego’s briefly before standing and circling the ring. “I’m sure it’s nothing…”
You frowned in confusion at the sight that greeted you. Standing in the doorway was a tall, dark-haired man, totally out of place and fidgeting uncomfortably. He was dressed in clothing that seemed highly inappropriate for the weather or season: a black sheer top, leather pants that laced up the leg, and a scarf clearly more intended for fashion (though at least it was a festive green with threads of silver glitter she supposed) than warmth. Only his long, fur-lined overcoat gave the impression he was even aware it was wintertime and that the temperature hadn’t been above freezing in days.
“Hello?” you asked, frowning in confusion at the strange man. “Can I help you?”
“Hello,” he sing-songed with a wave of a hand that also said the word.
You squirmed slightly, feeling deeply uncomfortable under his shrewd gaze, clearly sizing you up. Then, with speed and strength far greater than should have been possible for his size and the restrictive nature of his clothing, he had crossed the room and wrapped his arms around you, lifting you from the ground in...a hug? Involuntarily you shrieked in surprise, and footsteps echoed behind as everyone at the party came running.
“Klaus?!” Diego shouted angrily.
“Oh,” you breathed, suddenly understanding who this strange man was and feeling overwhelmed with joy. Somehow, the message had gotten to him, and he’d showed up. A true Christmas miracle. “It’s very nice to meet you, but would you mind...putting me down?”
Gently, Diego’s brother set you back on your feet, brushing the wrinkles out of your sleeves before you did the same to your skirt. Everyone else in the room relaxed, except your husband who was still glaring.
“You missed dinner, but I think there’s some left, and we were about to have pie,” you offered awkwardly, guiding the suddenly much more uncomfortable party back to the table.
“I love pie!” Klaus said excitedly, still looking at you like something amused him.
“What are you staring at?” Diego snapped at him.
“Nothing, bro,” Klaus drawled, shooting him a dirty look right back. “She’s just not what I expected. Although hearing my beloved brother had a wife at all...”
“It wasn’t exactly a phone call I expected from my baby sister either,” Daniel chimed in with a chuckle.
“Was I the only one that saw it coming?” Patch asked, laughing at your shocked and mildly horrified expression.
Introductions were made and the conversation resumed, with Klaus as a fascinating new addition, chiming in almost at random with a story for any topic. Somehow, by the time you had finished slicing the pie, he had charmed Daniel enough that he’d offered the other man a business card and said to call the next time he got arrested.
You passed around the little plates of dessert and moved back to your chair, but Diego reached out, catching you by the waist and pulling you into his lap instead. You laughed, happily settling in there.
“This was pretty great,” he mumbled into your neck between bites. “Thank you for a perfect first Christmas, Y/N.”

Could you make a Diego Hargreeves x reader where she is number 8 and has powers like scarlet witch but purple? Where they were secretly dating as teenagers and left the academy together, and she is part of the season one and two plot in helping save the world. One-shot or full story is fine. And can she be 5’1 and Mexican, like me?!
Here and There part 1
Diego Hargreeves x reader
Word count: 1581
Warnings: Language
A/n: I decided to write this story as lots of little scenes to try and fit more of the two seasons in
Tumblr media
Diego stared down at his father's grave in disgust. How dare such a monster be honored. How dare he turn his "children" into little toy soldiers. Hos dare he traumatize them so easily. How dare he-
"Diego?" A soft voice interrupted his thoughts.
His turned to see you holding an umbrella, your small hands gripping it tightly.
"Are you okay?" You asked.
He shot you a look.
"Right. Stupid question." You hesitated before saying, "Is it bad that I'm happy he's dead? I mean, he was a horrible person, to all of us. Especially Vanya..."
Diego reached out and pulled you to his chest. He loved the feeling of your body pressed up against him, his arms wrapped firmly around you- as if they could shield you from the rest of the world, if only for a moment.
"Hey," he said, "He's dead now. That means no more running, no more hiding. We're free."
He felt you smile into his chest. "What could possibly go wrong, right?"
______________________________________________________________________
As it turns out, quite a lot.
Five's return and announcement of a looming apocalypse added on to the growing pile of bottled up feelings, tension, and anger radiating from the now reunited siblings.
"Number eight," Five turned to you. "You've always had a few more brain cells than the rest of our siblings. Please tell me you're taking this seriously."
"It's y/n," You reminded him. "And of course we'll help you."
"We?" Luther scoffed. "I don't think so. I'm going to find out who murdered dad."
"Oh, would you let that go already!" Klaus threw his hands up.
You stifled a laugh. You and Klaus were close growing up, always doing each other's hair and dressing up in Allison's clothes.
Diego took your hand and said, "Look, if the apocalypse really is in eight days, then it's an all-hands-on-deck situation."
You gave his hand a squeeze in support. "Exactly. So, Five, what causes it?"
"I don't know."
______________________________________________________________________
"Luther!" You shouted over the roar of Vanya's powers, "What the hell were you thinking!"
Diego gripped your arm tightly, "Evacuate the audience, we'll keep her distracted."
"Diego-"
"Go!"
As you began ushering the civilians out, pounding footsteps caught your attention. Rushing outside, you saw men in lack uniforms holding guns, making their way intently toward the building. "Shit!" You whirled around and sprinted back to the auditorium where your siblings were taking shelter behind the red seats.
"We need to go!" You cried, reaching the doorway.
Vanya slashed her violin bow at you, which you blocked with a blast of purple energy. "Now!"
The men from outside swarmed the room and open fired. You dropped to the ground and crawled to Diego who was squished between two rows of seats. He said something to Five while you tried to find a good opening to attack the men. But you were surrounded. You were screwed.
"Well... we're screwed." You heard Five say.
Before you could respond, Klaus crashed into the room and yelled, "Guys! It's Cha-Cha, she-"
"Klaus! Get down!" You screamed, sending a wave of energy at him to deflect the gunfire long enough for him to find cover.
A blue glow filled the room. Peeking up, you saw Klaus and.... Ben.
Diego threw a few more knives before sprinting at the stage to take on Cha-Cha.
"Diego, wait!" He ignored you and kept running. You cursed under your breath and chased after him.
The fight was brutal. And painful. Diego's hand wrapped around the assassin's throat and squeezed. You put a hand on his shoulder, "Diego, this isn't what Patch would have wanted," you spoke softly, as if trying to calm a wild horse. Something in his eyes shifted, and he dropped his arm. You tugged him away and back to your siblings.
Diego spoke first. "How do you wanna end this thing?"
You shared a glance with Allison and said, "Come at her from all angles and hope she can’t fight all of us at once."
"So it's a suicide mission." Klaus' eyes were wide and you noticed the haunted look they always held was gone.
"It's the only chance we've got," Five reasoned. "Are we all in?"
Luther gave instructions and everyone ran to their places. As you turned, Diego spun you around and kissed you fiercely.
He started you directly in the eyes and said, "I love you."
You managed to find a smile for him, "I know."
He kissed you again before racing to stage left.
The room began to crumble and bits of the ceiling fell. It was now or never.
You couldn't remember much after Vanya suspended you in the air. The next thing you knew, everyone was huddled around Vanya.
Then, Klaus tugged on your sleeve and pointed at the moon. Or rather, what was left of it; large chunks of rock were hurtling toward Earth.
"Oh, come on!" You cried.
"Wha.... oh no." Five looked like he suddenly aged ten years.
"What do we do?"
"At least we're together, as a family, in the end." Luther said mournfully.
There was a long pause. Then:
"This doesn't have to be the end."
Diego wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you close, and pressing a kiss to your hairline.
"What are you saying, Five?"
He looked you in the eye and replied, "You gotta trust me on this."
Everyone chorused a no, but you remained silent, eyes never leaving his. Finally, you said, "We're all about to be vaporized anyway, we might as well try."
Diego sighed and nodded, "What's your idea then?"
______________________________________________________________________
Darkness and pain were the first two things you registered when you hit the ground. Then you realized that you were alone. And in an alley.
"Ma’am? Are you alright?" A tall man walked over to you and helped you up.
"A-accent." You murmured.
"What was that, miss?"
"Your accent.... where am I?"
He looked concerned. "You're in Dallas, Texas. Do you need some help?"
"No," you waved him off. "No, I'm fine. Thank you."
"Where are you going?" He asked as you we walking away.
You paused, then said, "To find my family."
______________________________________________________________________
You were on your way to your job at Glen Oaks Hardware when a crazed looking man grabbed your arm.
"Y/n?"
You yanked your arm out of his grasp, said "Not interested," and kept walking.
You were running late, again -Dave never let you live anything down- and couldn't afford to be harassed by men looking to sell something, again. You made it about fifteen paces before stopping short. You shook your head is disbelief. Spinning around, you saw him approach another Mexican women who shot him a confused look and blew right by him.
"Hey!" You ran over and gripped his shoulders tightly. "What did you say to me?"
"W-what?"
"Just now. What did you say?"
"I- Y/n."
You froze. "How did you know my name."
He looked nervous and hopeful and relived all at the same time. “The knife-man told me to find you."
Hope sparked in your chest.
"Knife-man?"
He nodded.
"Where can I find him?”
“Come with me.”
He led you into the building near the alley you arrived in nearly two years ago.
______________________________________________________________________
“Are you sure he’s coming back?”
Elliot gave you another exasperated, if not also mildly terrified look as you toyed with dark purple energy, letting it dance between your fingers.
“I told you. He said he was going to find his siblings, or his dad, or save the president.”
“At least he’s keeping busy.”
Elliot looked uncomfortable.
“That was a joke,” you clarified, “You can laugh. I’m not gonna kill you, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I’m not afraid of you.” He pulled himself up a bit.
You suppressed a laugh and nodded, “No, of course not. I-“
The sound of a door opening caught your attention. You raised a purple hand and peeled over the railing of the second floor. What you saw made your heart stop.
“Diego,” you breathed.
As if sensing your presence, he looked up and dropped his knife in shock.
“Y/n?”
At the same moment, you flew down the stairs and into his arms, colliding with his chest and pressing your face into his neck. You breathed in his scent, sweat, metal, and something else distinctly Diego.
“I thought I’d never see you again.” His voice broke.
“I missed you so much.” You said, savoring the feeling of his large hands running up and down your back and sides.
Someone cleared their throat behind Diego. Pulling back, but not quite yet letting him go, you looked to see who else was standing in the foyer.
Your eyes widened. “Five?”
He gave you his classic this-might-as-well-happen-smile, and said, “Y/n, great news! We have another apocalypse to stop.”
A/n: thanks for reading! Let me know if you guys want me to continue this with more of season two :)

Suddenly another wave of energy seems to pulse through the house, shaking the very foundation. Your eyes snap up to the sound of crumbling paint and pieces of the ceiling starting to crack and actively deteriorate. In an instant you’ve shot to your feet, turning your head to the upstairs balcony when you hear footsteps running on the wooden floor. You can hear Klaus and Diego calling out for Grace, but their shouting is soon silenced by more rubble clattering to the ground, shaking the house once again.
You race up the stairs to the second floor balcony where you just heard the distinct voices of Klaus and Diego. But by the time you get up there, both of them have disappeared. You look around the area in confusion, as more and more of the building cracks and breaks around you. Without warning a giant chuck of ceiling breaks free from the rest of its placement, hurling itself down at you. You dodge it, sliding on the tiled floor in the process. When another chunk falls down on your shoulder, knocking you harshly onto the ground, fortunately when your face is temporarily pressed to the wooden floorboards. You catch the scent of Diego and Klaus, their trail leading out to an open window. That’s now blocked by flaming debris of wood and whatever else. Dammit.
Your eyes scan the wall, finding another window you make a break for it, throwing your arm in front of your face to better prepare for impact. A moment later you feel a pressure and then tiny shards of glass flying all around you, as you jump out the window. For a few seconds you blissfully free-fall in the cool night air, before the hard concrete gives you a rude awakening. Darkness. When you open your eyes about 10 seconds later, you gasp in pain as your hip, rip-cage, and the left side of your skull moves around to fall back into its original placement. You watch as your previously broken arm, fuses back into place with a distinctly gory bob sound. With no time to spare you jump to your feet, dodging more pieces of the dying Academy.
When you make it round the corner, the whole entirety of the Academy has been reduced to rubble and flames. “First mom. Now Pogo. Where the hell his Y/N?!” Shouts Diego on the verge of tears. You run through the fallen bricks to the sound of his voice, finally spotting everyone, still alive and well, for the most part. “Diego!” You scream, racing over to him, he looks up at you with a downcast face before it turns into a relieved frown.
A second later, Five is jumping over a destroyed couch, “Guys! This is it. The apocalypse is still on. The world ends today.” He announces quickly, getting closer to the five of you, who all stare at him in troubled confusion. “I thought you said it was over.” Wonders Luther. Five starts to unfold a newspaper, “I was wrong, okay? This newspaper, I found it in the future the day I got stuck. The headline hasn’t changed.” He explains wide eyed.
“No, that doesn’t mean anything. The time could’ve been altered since that newspaper came out this morning.” Diego says, denying everything Five is telling you guys, not wanting to believe in the fact that the world just might end after all.
“You’re not listening to me. When I found it, I assumed this place came down along with everything else. But here we are. The Moon’s still shining, the Earth is still in one piece, but not the Academy.” Klaus suddenly snatches the crinkled newspaper from Five’s hand, “I’m confused.” He states baffled, Five furrows his brows in frustration, “Then listen to me, you idiot! Vanya destroys the Academy before the apocalypse. I thought Harold Jenkins was the cause, but he was just the fuse. Vanya is the bomb.” He exclaims pausing for a moment to let the information sink in, “Vanya causes the apocalypse.”
Right after Five finishes laying down the hard truth about Vanya and the apocalypse, you look up to hear the chopping of a helicopters blades. A giant spotlight is then intrusively beaming on all of you. “We have to find Vanya. Regroup at the Super Star. Go!” Shouts Luther over the blaring noise, you don’t have to think twice, as you grab Diego’s hand. The two of you bolting for the nearby bowling alley.
——
All of you stand around a table at the bowling alley, the atmosphere is tense, everyone's emotions all over the place as to what just occurred and what to do next. Luther stares at the floor with a hard and concentrated expression, as you look up to observe his face from your spot next to Diego. You suddenly narrow your eyes at him, your jaw clenching in growing irritation. Diego’s gaze snaps over to your sudden tenseness, his eyebrows rising in suspicion when your fists start to clench.
“You drugged me you dick!” You bitterly snap at Luther, everyone’s faces go from yours to Luther’s rightfully wide eyed one. He opens his mouth to say something but nothing appears to come out as he just stands there awkwardly avoiding everyone’s prying eyes. You let out an agitated snort, standing up from your seat next to Diego, Luther takes a step back while studying your hostile movements.
“I have half a mind to slap the ever present dumbass out of you, but I can’t promise that I’ll be able to stop myself after that.” You state through clenched teeth, pausing for a moment to collect yourself from your rising anger.
“I..uh...Y/N, I didn’t kn..”
“No! Shut up, your speaking privileges have been revoked, so listen here. First you put Vanya in a goddamn cage, then you forcefully stop everyone from getting her out, and then when I try to help her...you fucking drug me. Were you wacked to many times on your head as a child, because if you can’t find your common sense I’ll frickin’ help you find it.” You aggressively state at a visibly sweating Luther, he takes another small step back, honestly afraid that you might indeed hold true to your word. “I don’t know what kinda thought process you had when you were thinking that any of this was a good idea, but clearly it has given us a one way ride into the fucking apocalypse and I did not ask you to share your tickets.” Diego suddenly reaches up to grip your left arm before you’re able to move out of reach and bitch-slap the stupid right out of Luther. Your head quickly turns to look down at Diego, “I’m not...I’m not going to hurt him D, at least not yet.” You tell him, whispering the last part with quiet malice. Diego sends you a sympathetic nod, still hurting from the destructive and violent demise of Grace.
“I know, and you have every right to be angry, as do the rest of us. But, Y/N this isn’t going to get us anywhere.” Your brows furrow in frustration as you anxiously bite your lip. Slightly taken aback by Diego’s ability to keep his shit together, well at least for the time being. You still have no idea that not even ten minutes ago he was almost in tears when he couldn’t find you in the rubble of the fallen Umbrella Academy.
You let out a tired sigh, looking down at the floor for a second before bringing your troubled gaze back up to a distraught Luther. “You’re lucky Diego’s here.” You warn him with a glare as you sit down next to Diego once again, “I’d throw a bowling ball right at your fucking face.” You growl at him, crossing your arms and legs in annoyance while leaning into Diego’s side. He puts a gloved hand on your thigh in an act of earnest comfort, your tenseness falters ever so lightly as you scowl at the dirty bowling alley floor. The others keep to themselves, everyone shrinking into their own worlds to think for a couple minutes. While you continue to lean into Diego’s warm side and brood like a troubled lighthouse keeper waiting for her husband to come back from the sea. The atmosphere between the six of you still considerably awkward and stressed.
“Look, I hate to be the one to say this, but everyone needs to prepare.” Carefully starts Luther, making up a new plan on the spot, as all of your heads turn to look at him.
“For what?” Asks Diego.
“To do whatever it takes to stop Vanya.” Allison wacks Luther on the chest before he can finish, he looks at her offended, “We may not have a choice Allison.” He snaps without any real anger towards her. “Bullshit. There’s always options.” Adds Diego, sitting opposite of Luther in a bowling alley chair.
“Yeah, like what?” Grumbles Five, Diego looks down for a second to think, “I don’t know?” You roll your eyes, no one is getting anywhere fast at this rate. “Whatever we happen to decide in the next three years. We need to find Vanya.” You tell them, standing up from your chair and crossing your arms, trying to think of something that could work.
“Or...here. Look at this.” Says Klaus, opening up the newspaper he’s been reading, wider for everyone to see, you all crowd around him. “That’s right. Her concert is tonight.” Says Diego, referring to the obvious newspaper ad, a big colored picture of Vanya with her violin, as well as the time and place of the concert.
You hear footsteps approaching from behind, “Hello. I hate to intrude, but my manager says if you’re not here to bowl, you gotta leave.” Says the bowling alley employee, a tad bit passive aggressively if you’re being honest.
“Who’s turn?” You deadpan, as Luther grabs a ball, chucking it across the lanes, evidently making a lucky strike. The lady turns around to leave, unsure of how to respond to that.
Allison quickly scribbles down something in her notes. She’s our sister. “We’re the only ones capable of stopping this. We have a responsibility to Dad.” States Luther, of course he’d bring Reginald into this.
“To Dad? I’ve heard enough about...” Diego snaps as Luther stands up, interrupting him, “He sacrificed everything to bring us back together.”
You want to argue against him, but oddly enough, he’s right. “I’m with Luther on this one. We can’t give her a chance to fight back. There are billions of lives at stake. We’re past trying to save just one.” Five tells all of you, it’s a terrible and tragic thing to hear, but this is the whole world or Vanya. No one ever said the right decision would be the easiest one.
“Hey, you know, guys, uh...maybe I could help.” Klaus randomly announces, Luther jumping at the chance to turn him down, “Now is not the time Klaus.” He says sternly, not wanting to deal with Klaus’ usual nonsense. “Let him finish.” Retorts Diego, waving Luther off. “He saved my life today.” Finishes Diego, not what you thought he would say, clearly neither did Luther, who questions Klaus about it.
“Yeah, yeah I did....take credit for it. In fact, the real hero...was Ben.” All of you stare at Klaus doubtful, oddly enough you could have swore you heard a muffled reply to Klaus’ rambling. What the? You haven’t been able to hear Ben’s ghost since before Klaus’ addictions muddied up the connection to much, considering your senses are only able to hear Ben when Klaus is near. He’s literally a human Ouija board you swear.
“Today...listen. Today, he punched me in the face. And earlier at the house, he was the one who saved Diego’s life, not me.” Explains Klaus, he’s not lying, you’re truly intrigued now more then ever.
“You are unbelievable, Klaus.” Complains Luther, dumbfounded.
“You want proof, is that it? All right. I’ll give you proof.” Klaus then picks up a pink bowling ball, holding it in his two hands, getting ready to throw it, “All right, it’s showtime, baby. Catch!” He exclaims at the nearby empty space between Allison and a rack of bowling balls.
He throws the ball, it falling right past Allison as it makes a loud thud when it hits the floor. Luther is not amused one bit by Klaus’ shenanigans, in return for his rudeness, Klaus accidentally lets slip the fact that Luther was nicer before he got laid. Earning wide eyes from Allison and the rest of you, Luther snaps at Klaus to shut up, but he just makes it worse when adding in the part where it was an accident cause Luther was actually high.
Allison face is a mix of amazement and disappointment all in one as she abruptly turns around, walking away from rest of you, while Luther trails behind her trying to explain himself. You let them talk it out, as you sit down in one of the doubled side-by-side plastic chairs, choosing the empty spot next to Diego.  Klaus is in front of the both of you, Five in his own seat next to him. Out of nowhere, a random but incredibly bubbly plump lady and her son walk up to you, Diego, Klaus, and Five.
“Excuse me. But it’s my son, Kenny’s birthday today and...um..wouldn’t your son be happier playing with kids his own age?” She says expectantly, with the largest and most annoying of smiles, “Assuming it’s okay with you and your husband.” She asks you sweetly, looking between you, Diego, and Five. Klaus looks to the two of you with raised eyebrows as he covers his mouth to hide a muffled laugh, Diego focuses on her before turning to you with an agitated and puzzled glance.
You give her a tight lipped smile about to say some smart-ass remark when Five beats you to it, “I would rather chew off my own foot.” He growls through clenched teeth. The lady’s face falls as you look over at him with a fake frown, turning to this lady with an equally false beaming smile.
“Maybe some other time, he gets cranky when he doesn’t have his apple juice before 8 o’clock.” She gives you a knowing motherly nod, as she hastily turns around with her son, walking away from all of you.
“Y/N what the hell was that shit.” Snaps Five as Klaus and Diego let out muffled laughter. You turn to him with a smirk, “What? You just missed out on an opportunity to make your first friend in 45 years.” He looks elsewhere with a sigh,”Yeah cause I need friends, you people are enough to handle already.”
Suddenly Five gets distracted by some swishing noise, getting up to check on it elsewhere in the facility. You, Klaus, and Diego don’t care enough to follow.
You slouch back in the small uncomfortable bowling alley seat, Diego leaning in close to your side with a mischievous grin. “If we had a kid, I hope they wouldn’t be like Five.” You look up at him, “If we had a kid like Five we’d have to just throw the whole kid away. And FYI, I just hope they aren’t like you when it comes to stubbornness.” You sass back, he gives you a half offended look. You just smile at him as he looks back adoringly at you, “Well I guess we won’t even need to have a wedding, that lady already confirmed you’re my wife so.” You snort at his remark, “Then if you happen to end up dead somewhere, do I get widow compensation money benefits to go along, cause I would love an apartment overlooking the city.” You ask him, giving him a playful nudge, Diego just shakes his head with a smile. “I’ll get us that apartment someday...its coming I promise.” He assures you, lightly poking your side, you just roll your eyes in reply.
He leans back, throwing an arm over your shoulder as the two of you look around the bowling alley for anything suspicious. You lean yourself closer into his side, enjoying this small moment of silent affection. “Just so the two of you know, I want to be invited to this wedding.” Adds Klaus out of nowhere, you glance over to him with a nod, “You can be the best man.” You tell him, his face instantly lights up, already thinking of some extravagant outfit and speech to have ready. Diego just chuckles at the two of you, thinking his own pleasant thoughts for that day. Hoping that it will eventually come to light, if the apocalypse doesn’t ruin everything first.
“All right, where’s Five?” Wonders Luther, walking back up to the three of you.
“He left.” Says Diego, standing up again, you doing the same.
“Oh, for the love of...where’d he go?”
“Didn’t say.” You add, assuming it must of been important if he just teleported away without saying anything first. Or maybe he had to take a huge shit, but who knows.
“Well, we’re not waiting around for him. The concert starts in 30 minutes.” States Luther.
“All right, so what’s the plan?” Diego asks him, although you’re doubtful it’s going to be a good one. Luther pauses for a moment, “Well, I think that, uh.....we go to the Icarus Theater.” You cut in, “That’s a place....not a plan.” He opens his mouth to say something but decides otherwise.
“What? Is that all you got?” Accuses Diego, walking in closer to Luther, “Look, you wanna be Number One, fine, but you’re gonna have to get us on the same page, because right now, we’re all over the place.” Luther looks at Diego almost bored, clearly getting that he’s right, but never wanting to fully admit it, until now, “You’re right....We need a plan.”
As Luther is finishing up his sentence, your eyes snap up to the scent of ammunition, your nose locating the bullets like a shark smelling a drop of blood in the ocean. Your brows furrow as you squint your eyes to the darkly clad gas masked looking motherfuckers with guns, sneaking their way into the bowling alley. If they were trying to be subtle, mission sorely failed. They don’t look like they’re from around here, and you have a strong hunch they’re not here to bowl. You don’t even have time to warn anyone before these bastards start raining bullets like there’s no tomorrow, and quit literally there might not be one.
You take cover behind the bowling alley tables, these ones conveniently cover all the way to the floor, giving you and the rest of the Hargreeves a place to hide. “Who the hell are these guys?” Shouts Diego wide eyed, he’s sitting to your right, as Luther sits to your left.
“Maybe they’re here for Kenny’s birthday!” Yells Klaus, covering his ears from the intrusive racket. Your own ears are bounding with each gun that goes off, you’re quickly getting pissed. “No, I’m pretty sure they’re here for us!” Answers Luther, as more bullets continue to mercilessly search for their breathing targets. “The fuck do we do now? All I’ve got is my boot knife.” You tell the four of them, suddenly Diego jumps up, throwing a dagger into the chest of one of the weird masked guys. In the process the lights flip to night mode, neon lasers are flashing every which way. Luther stands up, launching a heavy bowling ball into one of them, knocking them out.
You stand up yourself, pulling your pencil-long silver dagger from out of your hidden boot pocket, Diego continues to throw his knives while Luther grabs more bowling balls, chucking them at the shooters. You jump up on the table in front of you, front flipping through the air and gracefully landing in a crouched position as you slash your dagger into the Achilles tendon of the closest masked shooter. Slitting it open in one clean motion, he instantly falls to the floor where you then throw your hands tightly around his neck and snap it with little effort. You dart to the left next, vaulting yourself onto the pool table. Your left hand holds you up as you swing your legs and body over the table, sucker punching your next target in the head with a powerful kick.
He falls to the ugly looking carpet with a thud, you flip backwards avoiding the bullets from his friend who’s to your right. He misses you, shooting his unconscious companion in the back, evidently killing him. That works for you, with no time to spare you launch yourself at him, grabbing his head from behind with your left arm. You roughly tilt it up, bringing your right arm over, slitting his throat wide open. He immediately falls to the floor, holding his opened throat as he gurgles, choking on his own blood.
When you look up again, the Hargreeves are racing down the bowling lanes, miraculously avoiding getting shot at, much to your help. Trying to give them a better chance at not getting holes punched into their sides, you lift up the side of the pool table with both of your hands. Lifting the whole thing up and off of the floor with ease, you then catapult it directly into the four masked assassins, severely injuring most of them. The loud gunfire around you slows a bit, taking the blessed opportunity before you, you race towards your friends in a blur. Sliding underneath the back of the alley like an action hero, and out into the other side.

Lights, camera and fuck off
Pairing: Gerard Way x Fem Reader Genre: Fluff/Light angst Requested by @thunderpurple Summary: (Y/n) is an Umbrella Academy actress and her relationship with Gerard isn’t really well seen due to their age gap, but they don’t let all that negativity reach them.
Tumblr media
"And what can we expect for The Umbrella Academy's second season?" The interviewer asks with an agonizing smile - there's something in it, giving off the slightest vibe I would describe as devilish, like if wanting to see every artist she interviews breaking under her questions and comments.
My attention doesn't remain on her for too long; I let my eyes fall to my hands that rest over my lap, presuming someone else will answer the question since I was the one who answered a few of the past ones. As supposed, Tom answers it, "well, it's a bit difficult commenting it without giving much spoilers, but it's going to be awesome," his grin is practically audible, kinda letting a mystery in the air with the way he says the last word.
The woman nods, continuing to speak, "also, I presume (y/n)'s going to have more screen time this season, right? Considering the past announcements." Her comment makes me immediately raise my gaze towards her and, if the altered tone while saying the last two wonder wasn't enough, she raises her eyebrows towards me in a sort of sign, glancing at Gerard too.
Gerard looks at her in certain disbelief, taking in a breath to answer. The sight makes her widen her eyes, already eager for the answer covered in annoyance, but I prefer to answer it myself - to not give her what she wants. I put on my best sweet smile, "well, not really. My character continues with the same highlight, she-"
"Um, that's not what I meant," she breathes a fake awkward chuckle, adjusting her glasses. "You probably gained more highlight after getting in a relationship with Gerard, which's, um, quite different from the conventional due to the age gap, what has also been commented a lot lately. Did something change-"
"Sorry," I cut her off, observing her curiously, "but I thought we were here to talk about the series and not anyone's personal life. Please let me know if there's another question like this because, if so, I'm leaving already. That's not what I'm here for. Also, I have a question for you myself. Did all the interviewers secretly agree on a thing of always asking the same questions?" I look at her, with a fake cluelessness over my features, not showing any sign of being intimidated by her.
The interviewer's eyes flicker over me, looking for the joking hint she never finds. Meanwhile, a heavy atmosphere follows the silence the room's set in. By the corner of my eyes, I can see Ellen and Tom share a quick look while Gabriel seems to prefer to not interfere in any way, demonstrating a sudden interest for the floor's patterns. Gerard just sits beside me casually, having an expression that demonstrates he agrees with me.
.
"Fuck, sometimes it's awful. Why do people act like if it is something from another world?" I raise an eyebrow at Gerard, "sometimes I feel like these people get pleasure in annoying artists and driving them to the edge." It's a bit difficult walking side by side on the relatively narrow sidewalk, but I don't feel like letting go of his hand, cogitating sending glares on whoever comes from the opposite direction so they decide to walk past by the street instead of waiting for one of us to open space. Thankfully it doesn't last long, just until we take a turn to one of more agitated streets.
"Maybe you're right," he presses his lips together, still seeming kind of bothered by the events from earlier. Exhaling, he continues with a blank expression before seeming to brush away all the thoughts, smiling at me instead. "Wanna stop for a coffee?"
Looking past him, I'm able to see a cafe by the other side of the street - grinning, I nod. We're soon sitting in a booth in a quiet corner of the cafe with our orders set in front of us, but momentarily forgotten there as we talk.
"You coming over?" Gerard asks, our hands linked over the table as he plays with my fingers - he softly runs the tip of his fingers over my palm, laughing at my reaction of suddenly closing my hand.
I don't answer at first, playfully glaring at him while rubbing my own fingers over my palm like if rubbing the weird feeling away. He breathes a chuckle, taking my hand in his again, rubbing his thumb over my palm, then turns my hand over to intertwine our fingers together. Wrinkling my nose lightly, I shake my head, briefly tightening my grip on his hand. I let go of it to take my cup of coffee and sip on the warm drink.
"I guess so," I finally answer, mentally reviewing my plans for the rest of the day and tomorrow too, "can I sleep over? Also, there's another interview tomorrow, isn't it?" A light groan leaves my lips at the thought of the tight schedules, a consequence of the next season of the series being released soon - thankfully, we can still spend a great time together, above all.
"Of course." He smiles adorably, sipping on his coffee before continuing, "and, yeah, but then we'll have the rest of the week to ourselves, fortunately. Well," Gerard pauses, tilting his head lightly, "kinda. There's band practice with the guys more towards the end of the week. You could come along, there won't be just the guys and I." As he presses his lips together, his eyes fall to the table - a bit of expectation and insecurity under his 'firm' tone.
"Um, won't I bother?" I furrow my eyebrows, averting my eyes from him and fidgeting with the sleeves of my jacket in another wave of insecurity and anxiety. I'm always doing my best to dodge all the negative comments thrown towards me, but it's not always that I'm keeping the guard up.
Gerard exhales in certain frustration, most likely guessing what's going on in my head. "You never bother, sugar. And you know they like you, so stop worrying." His reassuring voice has an automatic effect on me, making me feel almost completely calmer after hearing his words.
What he said echoes through my mind once again and - though it has happened many other times before - a stupid grin cracks my lips at the same time I blush at being called sugar. It makes me soft and, in a sudden decision, I stand up from my place to sit beside him. Gerard curiously raises an eyebrow at me, but places an arm around me without questioning; I exhale in some kind of relief and comfort as leaning against his side.
Noticing his gaze continues on me, I breathe a chuckle, "I wanna be next to you," I mutter shyly, observing my cup of coffee as blushing more. He lets out an appreciative hum, nuzzling the side of my faze lightly and leaving a peck there - it makes me chuckle louder than expected, shrinking at the feeling of his beard against my skin. Gerard lets out an evil giggle, earning him a playfully offended look from me, one which fades away in the moment he places a kiss on my lips.
Soon enough, we're at his place; I smile as being engulfed by the place's comfortable atmosphere, it's like if it's filled with a warm energy that's the same as his. Before he can notice, I'm already coming back from his room, having changed from my clothes - which weren't so comfortable - and now wearing one of his shirts and a loose pair of shorts I left here last time I was over.
Gerard's serving himself a glass of water when I walk in the kitchen. He probably just notices my presence once I wrap my arms around him from behind, sighing as I rest my head against his back. His free hand rests over mine, holding them. "Want to watch something?" He asks and right after, I can hear the sound of the glass being placed against the counter, but don't want to let go just yet.
"No," I groan quietly, suddenly noticing how tired I am; I just want to lay down and cuddle him. "Not in the mood. We could listen to something, tho."
"Alright. Just let me go change, hm?" He squeezes my hands in a sign for me to let go - I do so, reluctantly, but my mood quickly lightens up with his lips being pressed against mine for a few seconds.
While Gerard disappears in the halls, I throw myself on the couch, sitting in a half-laid-down position as finally allowing myself to relax. I don't think the physical tiredness is actually as big as the mental one every interviewer seems to want to put me under lately. I'm left to wonder how in the fucking hell do details about my personal life affect my work or why is it so interesting to them.
My thoughts are cut off at the same moment soft music starts to fill the room and then there's Gerard approaching me. Looking at him with a lazy smile, I make grabby hands towards him before letting one of my legs hang off the couch, motioning the place in front of me.
He quickly gets what I mean and sits down on the space between my legs, leaning back against me until his head is resting on my chest. I can't hold back a stupid smile - soft moments like this always make me feel have a funny feeling, all happy -, stopping it briefly to press a kiss to his temple. A pleased hum comes from Gerard and I can feel him physically relaxing as I start to run my fingers through his hair.
Moments like this make me think a lot, sometimes. I end up getting both afraid and happy at the same time. Afraid because I love moments like this - and him - so much and I'm afraid of it ending at some point, maybe because of all the people against our relationship, though I won't let their negativity reach us. But happy, on the other had, because I- I don't know, I just don't want these moments to ever end; they make me feel so well. Anyways, I guess it's not the time to fill my head with doubts, just to stick with the last feeling and enjoy every second. After all, no one else can understand all of this the way we do.

WEEK 1
What are your plans for this summer?
My plans for this summer are to work on my mental health and prepare for the years ahead of me as my schooling will come to an end and I’ll have to enter the real world.
Have your plans changed at all because of the pandemic?
My plans have definitely changed. I was originally planning on applying for a summer study abroad this summer, but that got pushed back to next year due to non-pandemic related things. I was then planning on applying for internship positions which was then disrupted by the pandemic.
Do you have a specific goal for this summer?
My original goal for this summer was to practice my filming and editing skills, which I guess I’ve done a bit of that, but I haven’t done as much as I would’ve liked. My goal now, before my classes start, is to read something from my TBR pile.
Do you have a lot of work to do for school or university or your job this summer?
I don’t have a lot of work for school, but I am working two jobs which take up a lot of my time. I don’t have a lot of work for those jobs outside of the hours I work in.
What is the most important task that you need to complete this summer?
My most important task this summer is to create the perfect study space. During online classes last semester I had a hard time focusing due to the lack of divided space. My desk is in my bedroom and I couldn’t mentally divide up the physical space so I realized I needed to create an actual, physical, separate study space for the future.
What do you usually do during the summer?
Usually during the summer I work and watch tv. I sometimes hang out with my friends, which I can no longer do outside of the moments I see them while I’m at work. I tend to play video games and watch a lot of Korean dramas.
What did you do during the summer when you were a young child?
As a young child I remember doing more outside activities. I would go to pool with my sister. My family used to always go to the amusement park that’s close by at least once a summer. After middle school I found myself staying inside most of the summer.
GENERAL UPDATES
I had a lot happen to me this week. I had good news and bad news. Good news is, I was able to buy myself a Nintendo Switch! They finally came back in stock and I had enough saved up and I bought myself a switch along with the games I wanted. I’ve been playing nonstop for the last three days. The bad news is, my school announced a new plan for opening campus which includes me not being able to move back to campus like originally planned. I was pretty proud of myself for the way I reacted to this news, I expected to start crying immediately but I didn’t. It took awhile and it was only a few tears. While I’m sad that I won’t be living with my friends and that I won’t be able to do my first club activities on campus, I’m alright with the decision and I completely understand it’s necessity.
That said, all of my stuff is in storage hundreds of miles away from where I’ll be living while doing my online semester, so I don’t have all of the study supplies I would like. I had started a kpop journal which is in storage along with all of my bullet journal/kpop journal decorations. If anyone has any recommendations for good notebooks for kpop journals or washi tapes, please let me know! I plan on trying to buy something so I can keep up the journal.
🎧 Currently listening to: All of Boyfriend’s discography because my OG’s are the only ones who can bring back my happiness in these sad times
🎬 Currently watching: It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, Itaewon Class, To All the Guys Who Loved Me, Was it Love?, New Girl, and desperately waiting for The Umbrella Academy season 2

#SelfiesForCastaneda
Story Summary:  You’ve just finished watching The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. You follow the main cast on Twitter and get a Retweet from David Castaneda on your selfie! This prompts a conversation with you two. You hit it off and set a date.
Chapter: 1/1
Word Count: 2,420
Pairing: David Castaneda x Reader
Warnings: Anxious thoughts
It’s a rainy Friday night. Normally you’d go out with friends or go out to downtown Toronto. Because it was raining and you were exhausted from work though, you decided to veg out and finish watching the Netflix series, The Umbrella Academy. You were comfortable in your warm home, laid down on your plushy couch, with a fuzzy blanket covering you, and you were in your sweatpants and loose white t-shirt.
You forgot about this comfort once you were so stunned by the series finale of The Umbrella Academy. You could not wait for season 2. You also got attached to the characters and you loved Ellen Page and Robert Sheehan more than you already did before; back when you saw the movie Juno, and back when you watched the show Misfits. You thought Emmy Raver-Lampman was so pretty and seemingly sweet in real life. Your bisexual ass could not get over this. You hit the Follow button in Twitter for Ellen, Robert, and Emmy. The character Luther was your least favourite one, though you thought to get to know the actor for him, Tom Hopper, from interviews, and to Follow him on Twitter too. Justin H. Min was so handsome and so vulnerable as Ben. Aidan Gallagher was just a kid and did an amazing job playing an old man trapped in the body of a 12 year old. And last but not least, there was David Castaneda. He is the most handsome one to you. As Diego, he was so resentful. It didn’t make sense to you because all the siblings went through childhood trauma, from the same man who adopted them all. He was also spiteful towards a former lover, Detective Patch (who your gay ass also found attractive. That’s a story for another time). Still, there was something about Diego, or David, that made you feel good things.
You smile as you hit the Follow button on David. You have followed all the main cast of The Umbrella Academy, along with Mary J. Blige, who is just an icon. You also followed Gerard Way, who created the show and was the singer of the brilliant band My Chemical Romance.
You spend the rest of your evening lurking everyone you just followed. It feels good to be in love with something again.
As you lurk David and his Likes, you see a bunch of fan’s selfies he liked. Every selfie has the hashtag #SelfiesForCasataneda You’re intrigued by this. You wonder if he started this hashtag, or if some fans did. You are also pleased that he interacts with fans. He’s still at the level of fame where he can see fans in his notifications over being blinded by the plenty of Likes, Retweets, and Replies he gets.
This motivates you to get off the couch and to take a shower. As you take a shower, you think of an outfit idea for this selfie you’re thinking of posting. You’ll wear all black; the tight black turtleneck you bought a while ago and have worn plenty of times already, the baggy black jacket you’ve copped from your older sister, and black jeans. It was a Diego-esque outfit. You didn’t have to cosplay. You just always dress like this anyway, and you were the most confident in it.
After your shower, you slip into the outfit, put on some concealer, black winged eyeliner, and red lipstick. You snap some shots from the camera on your phone. You try out a bunch of angles. You scoff at some selfies and think there’s no way he’ll Like any of these. Well, he could, since he seemed like a support Liker to fans. You still wanted to dress to impress if he was going to actually see this selfie!
You beam up once you get another idea. You run to your kitchen to pick up 2 kitchen knives. You are aware of how funny this could look. You like to think that you’re a creative person, or so you decide to go the positive route of thinking.
You get the knives and put a self timer on from the camera of your phone. You criss-cross your arms, with a knife in each hand, and take the shot. Your phone took 3 shots, so there’s a chance of a good one. There is a good one indeed. Your face was lighted perfectly in this certain one. There was a glow. Your hair looked great too. You love the shape of your body as well.
You post the photo, and put in the hash tag, #SelfiesForCastaneda You press ‘Tweet’. At this point, you don’t care if no one would Like the selfie. You are just feelin’ your look!
Fortunately, you do get some Likes; a few were David Castaneda fan accounts, one from a supportive mutual, and a few others were from other fans of The Umbrella Academy. You Like everyone else’s most recent tweets and selfies back.
Then there is a Retweet. You beam up and think maybe it’s from one of the Likers. You view the Retweet and it’s from… @DavidCastanedaJ You think it’s another fan account, until you remember following this account earlier, and you notice the blue checkmark next to the username, which indicates that this is an official and verified celebrity account. Your heart is racing. What the fuck! you think. You check his account and think that maybe his support Liking evolved to support Retweeting. There is no other Retweet with the hashtag #SelfiesForCastaneda on his account though.
You leave your phone alone for 2 hours after your tweet gets more Likes and Retweets from other David fans. You even notice some haters in the thread. Luckily there are only a few haters. Everyone else says that your photo is bad-ass.
You’re not usually one for bragging. This is a very cool moment though, so you retweet David’s Retweet of your selfie, and you caption it with, 'Uhmmm… did David Castaneda just retweet my selfie!? Diego frickn Hargreeves!?“
You look at the time on your phone. It’s 1:30am! You’re usually a night owl. Somehow though, you were tired. You did sleep very little before you went to work, and you commuted in the rain. Being cozy and watching Netflix had to contribute to that tiredness as well. So, you snuggle up in your warm bed, which also has a fuzzy blanket, and sleep.
10:43am. You wake up naturally and pick up your phone which was laid on top of some pile of clothes you left on your floor beside your bed. You check your Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr. Finally, you check your Twitter to check on the selfie. You also see an Inbox notification. You wonder who that could be from. People don’t normally message you on Twitter. You open the inbox and in the preview, it’s @DavidCastanedaJ ! You can’t believe it. What could he possibly have to say to you? Your heart is racing.
What if he says that the retweet was an accident? Would he have had to message you that though? He could have deleted the Retweet if it was an accident. You would have understood that he didn’t mean to Retweet one fan’s selfie randomly.
You take a deep breath before opening the message to quit your overthinking and your doubts.
@DavidCastanedaJ: It’s a good selfie. I had to retweet it.
After lurking his Twitter last night, you notice that he’s got a dry and sarcastic tone. You’re unsure of what to respond to him with, or if you should even respond. Well, of course you should respond. He felt compelled to say something to you personally instead of being funny and fishing for Likes. Well, that’s speaking for if he’s not being sarcastic.
You tap your chin and wonder if you should screenshot this to your close friends, especially your sister who got you to watch the show and dealt with you ogling over him. You shake your head out of this and think that it’s best to reply to him ASAP. He sent his text around 6am. You’re not sure why he sent it that early. He’s in Toronto, a city not too far from yours. He’s not shooting a show, as far as you knew. There isn’t even an announcement of a season 2 for The Umbrella Academy yet.
You quit your overthinking again, and decide to reply with this:
[@YourUsername]: A good selfie how? Like, in what sense?
You take another deep breath and chuck your phone on the spot next to you on your bed. You get up from the bed and decide to leave your phone alone and try to think of something productive to do on your day off. Before you can do that, your phone buzzes. You beam up, and rush back over to your bed, which you sit on your knees for.
Twitter Notification: Preview of @DavidCastanedaJ Inbox message
@DavidCastanedaJ: Idk
@DavidCastanedaJ: I like your Diego get-up, and you’re aesthically pleasing
Your heart is skipping beats. What does he mean by aesthetically pleasing!? Is he implying that you’re attractive? Are you even his type in looks? Do you resemble Detective Patch? Are actors attracted to the type of people who play their love interests? Well it was the only reference you have for this emerging and handsome actor.
You’re in your 20s, and he’s 29. You still have a baby face and wonder if he thinks you look younger than you actually are. Why would he retweet your selfie though?
[@YourUsername]: Aesthetically pleasing? This face?
You hold your phone and stare at the thread. Maybe he’s online if he replied to your last text just seconds after it. Much to your surprise, there’s a blue checkmark which indicates that he read it. Maybe he’s just thinking of what to say. Or maybe you’re a suggestive creep! Wait, how could you be if he was the one who retweeted your selfie!? God, you really had to quit that. Stop letting it get to your head!
The thread shows a new bubble, from him.
@DavidCastanedaJ: Haha
@DavidCastanedaJ: Yes, this face
@DavidCastanedaJ: It’s a great face. What’s your secret?
You are now blushing and still manage to type.
[@YourUsername]: I did sleep 9 hours last night. You know what they say about 9 hours of sleep.
@DavidCastanedaJ: Yeah, that’s lucky
You are easing into this now, though you are also wondering if you should be careful, or if you’re just dreaming and didn’t actually wake up earlier than you usually do.
[@YourUsername]: I’m guessing you don’t have that luxury?
@DavidCastanedaJ: Well, maybe now I can sleep that much
@DavidCastanedaJ: Back when we were shooting the Umbrella Academy though, I was a mess!
[@YourUsername]: You seem so healthy
[@YourUsername]: At least with that body, you do…
David seems to like that response. You spend Saturday afternoon texting each other, and it’s still surreal to you that this is happening, much less how you two seem so connected.
A few hours later.
@DavidCastanedaJ: So, you said you’re in Toronto, right?
[@YourUsername]: Well, I’m in a city *near* Toronto, about a half hour away
@DavidCastanedaJ: Oh I see
[@YourUsername]: I’m there often anyway. I mostly go see local bands, and take their photos
@DavidCastanedaJ: Right. I remember you saying that earlier
You’re unsure of how this conversation could last at this point. You take a chance with a one-word response anyway.
[@YourUsername]: Yep!
@DavidCastanedaJ: How would you feel about coming to Toronto tonight? I thought maybe we could have dinner, and I could show you real Diego Hargreeves gear…
Your heart is racing again! In fact, you think that you’re going to shit your pants. You decide to have some banter with him to cover up your fangirling.
[@YourUsername]: "Real Diego Hargreeves gear.”
[@YourUsername]: Is that a sexual innuendo?
@DavidCastanedaJ: It is if you want it to be ;)
[@YourUsername]: Omg
@DavidCastanedaJ: I realize that did sound pretty sketchy, so sorry about that
[@YourUsername]: No, it’s totally fine! I was just teasing :)
[@YourUsername]: I would love to come to downtown tonight! When are you free?
@DavidCastanedaJ: Well, seeing as I’ve been texting a very beautiful girl all afternoon, I’d say my schedule is pretty flexible
[@YourUsername]: Really? Are you sure that Gerard Way isn’t barking at you to get back on set for season 2 as we speak?
@DavidCastanedaJ: Ahahah yeah totally
@DavidCastanedaJ: I’d tell him to wait though. I should get to spend my free time with someone cool first
From there, you hash out the details for the plans; what time, and where to meet. You both also decide to get a drink at Brooklynn Bar. You’re not much of a drinker, though for a celebrity like him you made an exception.
You decide to wear “the Diego get-up”, this time you style your hair, wear darker red lipstick, the same black eyeliner, and you sling a small black cross-body bag over your shoulder.
David texts you with his name. Then he tells you to keep him posted on your whereabouts. You make your way to downtown and your meeting spot with him. You eye the area and look for him. You turn to some side, and you see him walking over. Your heart is skipping beats again, and you gasp.
He looks so handsome with his tan peacoat, black jeans, his gelled black hair, and beard and mustache.
He smiles knowingly and walks over to you. He gives you a hug.
You cannot believe that it is actually him. You realise in this moment that you could have been catfished. You weakly hug him back in your disbelief over this moment.
He pulls you in closer and you hug back tighter.
“Oh my God!” you exclaim.
He pulls out the hug and he looks over at you with a toothy smile on his face. “What?”
“It’s you. It’s really you! God, this is so embarrassing. I think that I’m actually starstruck.”
He chuckles. “This is gonna sound weird, but I thought I was being catfished.”
You give him a puzzled look, although you are so flattered. “I thought that I was an annoying type of fan you’re annoyed of attracting!”
“What!?” he laughs. “Okay, we haven’t even had a drink yet and we’re already confusing each other.”
You let out a laugh.
He gestures an arm to the entry door. “Shall we go in?”
“Yeah sure!”
He signals for you to walk in first, and so your date begins. Things can only get better from here.

The Day Before the School Festival, in the Home Economics Room... (a King of Prism short story)
A legend from ancient times. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this may be the first King of Prism story ever published?
So, a little history: This short script was first printed in 2D Star Vol 2 back in October 2015, when King of Prism was just barely a thing. It was then directly referenced in the first King of Prism movie (screenshot at the end). Following this it was re-worked into an audio drama released on the movie soundtrack. (Then finally it was re-printed in the Music Ready Sparking fanbook, which is the version my translation was based on...)
Tumblr media
(More notes and story under cut)
Translator’s notes: So the text below is based on the original script, not the audio drama. So if you listen to the audio drama you may find small differences such as lines missing/added or spoken by different characters. (I caught a few while editing, but there may be more I didn’t notice.) The biggest difference between the written and audio versions is the introduction to the audio drama was significantly abridged and I don’t blame them. The original Japanese text is really confusing for the first couple paragraphs and I had to re-write it over and over again. (They phrase it like Lu Seriana is a dance school but it’s... not?) Here it is, so if want to have a look. Let me know if you find any discrepancies.
This story takes place a year after Over the Rainbow was formed, in May. So about a year after the Rainbow Live anime but before King of Prism. In other words, the boys haven’t met Shin yet. Since you were kind enough to read my notes, you can find a link to the audio drama in the period of this sentence. The timing of this story’s release would mean the game Hiro is playing is more likely the now defunct Pretty Rhythm Shake, if anything haha. (Prism Rush was a twinkle in some game designer’s eye when this was written.)
And now without further ado....
The Day Before the School Festival, in the Home Economics Room...
It was the beginning of May when the cherry blossom petals had already fallen and new buds were beginning to sprout. This is when Kakyoin Academy holds their annual school festival, the “Kakyou Fest”. Kakyoin Academy is an all-boys junior and senior high school managed by Edel Rose, a organization founded by the late Kou Norizuki, which is known all over for being the best of the best.
The elite beginner prism training school “Edel Rose”, and the combined junior and senior high all-girls school “Lu Seriana Girls Academy” are just two examples of the many institutions all over the country under the large umbrella of dance schools which educate strongly through prism show activities. The male students of Edel Rose attend Kakyoin Academy for their basic education.
Due to the extreme popularity which comes with Kakyoin Academy having a student body of promising future stars, as soon as the annual school festival arrives fans from all over the country come running. The main target of said female fans is the prism show unit Over the Rainbow, formed about one year prior. Top solo idol Hiro Hayami had joined together with genius songwriter Kouji Mihama and charismatic street star Kazuki Nishina to form this same age, three member group.
The previous year a concert had been planned at the festival, but due to the large crowd it was cancelled at the last minute. This year it was announced in advance that Over the Rainbow would not be performing, which left many fans in disappointment.
It was those three popular stars who had secretly gathered the night before the Kakyo Fest in an empty home economics classroom...
Kazuki: Hey, is it really okay for us take the stage tomorrow?
Kouji: Yup! I got proper permission from the school and everything.
Hiro: Gah! Huah! ... But if we announce that we’re going to take the stage it will just be cancelled again like last year. Hiyah! This year have to take care to make sure it’s a surprise. Woah!
Kazuki: Well that’s all well and good but... Hiro, what are you doing there anyway?
Hiro: It’s a rhythm game. It’s a prism show game about us. You know, one of those smartphone apps. It’s pretty difficult. Auah! But my song “pride” is in it... Hah!
Kazuki: I see.... Well, what are we actually going to do on stage tomorrow, anyway? Well, I’m assuming a prism show, but...
Kouji: Well, about that. Actually...
Kazuki: Oh yeah, you wrote it about in the email didn’t you? ...Hey, wait. Hold on a sec. I guess I left my phone in the classroom. I’ll be right back!
Kouji: Okay.
*click, click*
Kazuki: Huh? I can’t open the door!
Kouji: What!?
Hiro: Is it locked?
Kazuki: Yeah.
Hiro: I’ll go check the other door. I wonder if someone could have locked it without noticing we were in here?*
(*In the audio drama the second line is spoken by Kouji.)
Kazuki: But the lights are on, so I’d think they would notice...
Kouji: Kakyouin Academy has an auto-lock system. So it’s possible the doors just lock automatically after a certain time.
Hiro: It’s no good. This door is locked too.
Kazuki: So does that mean we’re just stuck here now?
Kouji: I’ll try and contact the janitor... huh? Where’s my phone? Ah! I left all my stuff back in the classroom too.
Kauzki: Hiro, could you call someone? You’re the only one of us who has a phone.
Hiro: Okay! No prob!
*beep*
Hiro: Huh?
Kazuki: What’s wrong? Did something happen?
Hiro: The battery is dead...
Kazuki: WHAT! Hiro, it’s because spend day to night playing too many games! Now what do we do?
*click click* *click click* *bang bang bang*
Kazuki: What is with this door! It won’t budge an inch!
Hiro: That’s Kakyoin Academy for you. You sure can feel safe and secure here!
Kazuki: What are you so excited about!?
Kouji: If we go about making a big racket we’re just going to end up causing trouble for the school. So simmer down a bit, okay?
Kazuki: ...Kouji, you’re so calm... Well, I guess you’re right. Panicking isn’t going to get us anywhere.
Kouji: Oh yeah! I’m starting to get hungry, shall I make us something?
Hiro: Good idea! I’m starving!
Kazuki: And how are you expecting to make something here!?
Kouji: Easy! This is a home economics classroom so there’s bound to be some food in here somewhere.
Kazuki: Well... I’m sure you’re right, but there probably isn’t going to be much to work with.
Kouji: Look, look! There’s meat, fish, vegetables, and even seasoning!
Hiro: They are probably using this space to store ingredients for the festival food stalls.
Kazuki: But is it really okay for us to use this stuff?
Kouji: This is an emergency situation! We’ve got no choice. Hang on everyone.
Hiro: Suddenly this got exciting!
Kazuki: Good grief. What did we even come in here for anyway? ...Oh yeah! We’re doing a prism show tomorrow, right?
Hiro: Actually, no. We’ve been told we can’t perform a prism show because it will cause a big commotion again.
Kazuki: Oh. Well then what are we gonna--
Kouji: Sorry to keep you waiting!
Kazuki: That was fast! Finished already?
Kouji: Yeah! I wanted to make sure to get it to you while it’s still hot.
Hiro: Woah! What’s all this?
Kouji: Well, first up is amuse-bouche.
Kazuki: W-What did you say? A music bush!?
Kouji: It’s a French appetizer. Something to cleanse your palette with.
Hiro: Oooh! Today you’ve made us a French full course?
Kazuki: K-Kouji! Don’t tell me you’re making a full course meal in a home economics classroom!?
Kouji: Why not? After all, it’s even more important to build up your strength when you find yourself in a pinch, right?
Kazuki: Well... I guess so but...
Hiro: I agree with Kouji! Well. And what do we have here?
Kouji: “In a fateful encounter between the octopus conveniently laying around in the home economics room for takoyaki and the dice cut tomatoes for tacos, cold marinade Napoleon Bonaparte's Campaign in Egypt assortment”!
Kazuki: What a name! What kind of a dish is it!? Napoleon did what now?
Hiro: I’m sure we’ll find out when we try it. *gulp* *chew* Amazing! The refreshing sensation of Napoleon’s arrival in Egypt is spreading through my mouth!
Kazuki: Woaah! This is great! I don’t really know what it has to do with Egypt, but you’ve really outdone yourself, Kouji! To think even in a tight spot like this you still bring your A game to the table...
Kouji: Eheh, thank you! Next is the hors d'oeuvre. “With a fresh egg taken this morning from ‘Hana-chan’ in the school hen house and the spring cabbage raised in the back garden by the principal, all conveniently found in the home economics classroom, in the style of Vasco da Gama’s Arrival the Cape of Good Hope!”
Kazuki: First Napoleon and now Vasco da Gama!? What is all of this supposed to represent?
Kouji: Just try it and you’ll see!
Kazuki: You’ve sure got a lot of confidence in us...
Hiro: E-Exquisite! Aaah... I’m filled with the joy of seeing the Cape of Good Hope after such a long journey. All the deliciousness spreads far across the horizon!
Kazuki: Y.. Yeah... I guess it tastes something like that. But anyway, this really is good. Unbelievable...
Kouji: Next is “With potage of barbecued corn on the cob conveniently found in the home economics room, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address assortment”!
Kazuki: Now we’re going American...? I don’t know what the theme is anymore...
Hiro: Oooh! Amazing! This is truly a potage of the people, by the people, for the people!
Kazuki: Y... Yeah.. it’s good... I’m not quite sure what part of it has to do with Abraham Lincoln, but the flavor accent thanks to the barbecued corn is superb. ..Wait, is that a reference to southern America? Because you can grow corn there?
Kouji: Eheh. And now the main poisson, “Meunière with red sea bream caught in Akashi and conveniently left in the home economics classroom, in the style of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro shogun’s inauguration celebration with the white radish sprouts raised with love and care on a windowsill by Tamachi-sensei.” Bon appetite!
Kazuki: I don’t even know where to begin with this one... This looks like a meal from a five-star restaurant...  What about Tamuramaro shogun.....
Hiro: Delicious! I feel like I could conquer the entire world at this rate!
Kazuki: It’s good... it’s so good I think I’m gonna cry....
Hiro: Eheh I’ll wipe your tears for you.
Kazuki: Thank you, Hiro... To think I’d eat something so good it would bring me to tears... Thank you, Kouji. Thank you, Hiro...
Hiro: Eheh.
Kouji: And last but not least, dessert! “Fondant au chocolat using the chocolate dipped bananas conveniently left in the home economics classroom with cotton candy and caramelized strawberry crepes. All with love... from the home economics classroom”!
(In the audio drama Hiro has an extra line about how sweet it smells.)
Kazuki: This one doesn’t have a historical figure attached to it... But we can’t escape the “conveniently left in the home economics classroom” ....
Kouji: Oh, I forgot! “To be eaten while Marcus Aurelius Antoninus of the Five Good Emperors of the Roman Empire reminisces of the other four!”
Kazuki: Of course!
Kouji: I’ve only just began to dive into the art of French cuisine, so I’m still working on the naming part...
Kazuki: Amazing... It sure doesn’t seem like you’ve only just began... It doesn’t matter what you call it if it tastes like this....
Hiro: Aaah, I’m so full! Thanks for the feast! It was truly delicious!
Kazuki: Thanks for the meal! I can’t believe how good that was. It was my first time eating such delicious French food like that. Thank you, Kouji.
Kouji: You’re welcome! It makes me happy to see the two of you smile!
Kazuki: Huh..? You know what, all of a sudden I’m not so stressed out anymore.
Hiro: You’re right! Every inch of me is ready and rearing to go!
Kouji: Eheh I’m glad! Stress can be built up easily by throwing off your body rhythm by skipping meals and missing sleep. So Hiro, make sure you’re always getting three good meals every day, okay?
Hiro: I know, I know!
Kazuki: Huh? All this time I thought being stuck in this home economics classroom was the source of my stress, but... All of a sudden I feel much better.
Kouji: Well then, shall we discuss what to do on stage tomorrow?
Hiro: Sure!
Kazuki: Oh yeah! That’s right! I almost forgot! You said we’re not allowed to perform a prism show? So what the heck are we going to do then?
Kouji: Well, about that....
*fwip*
Kazuki: ?
Kouji: Ta-daa! Look what I made!
Kazuki: Huh?
Hiro: Oooh! That’s our Kouji! You really outdid yourself!
Kouji: Thanks!
Kazuki: Huuh?
Hiro: Which one are you going to take, Kouji?
Kouji: I think I’ll go with purple.
Kazuki: Wait...
Hiro: Ah, so you made them according to our theme colors, huh? In that case the light blue one is mine!
Kazuki: Hold on a minute!
Hiro: And green is for you, Kazuki.
Kazuki: No, stop!
Kouji/Hiro: ..? What’s eating you?
Kazuki: This is women’s clothing!
Kouji/Hiro: ...Exactly.
Kazuki: ...”Exactly”?! Why are you acting so weird?
Kouji: We aren’t “acting”...
Hiro: This is what we are going to wear on stage.
Kazuki: WHHAAAaaaAAAT!?
Kouji: We’re going to be in the Kakyo Fest Beauty Contest! It’s a surprise!
Hiro: Since Kakyoin Academy is an all-boys school, the crown is always held by a girl from another school. But this year we’re going to bring it back home no matter that!
Kazuki: ... *twitch* Sorry guys, I’m not feeling so good. I think I’ll go on home...
*click click*
Kazuki: Oh that’s right! We’re locked in here!
Hiro: Well then, let’s start working on our makeup.
Kazuki: EEK!
Kouji: I got Ito to teach me about how to put on makeup just for today!
*click click click* *clickclickclickclickclick*
Kazuki: SOMEONE HELP ME! SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE!
*thump thump thump thump*
Hiro: What are you doing over there, Kazuki? Come join us! We’re stuck in here until morning anyway. Let’s all just relax and take our time getting ready for tomorrow!
Kazuki: AHH! EEK! NO! W... WAIT...!
Kouji: Come on over! What are you waiting for!
Hiro:  We’ll start with your foundation... ♡
Kouji: Just close your eyes!  It will only take a sec... ♡
Kazuki: N-NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

&. biography
emrys was born on the rainiest day of the season.  his mother was at home, watching television, when he arrived.  to say the cross family were shocked would have been an understatement.  since arlo was only 18 years old, her older sister sarah ( + her wife serena ) agreed to adopt the baby.  arlo knew she wanted kids, knew she felt some sort of love for this baby that had been placed in her arms, but at 18 she knew that she wasn’t ready.  so serena and sarah moved in nearby, arlo played the role of doting aunt, and the three ladies raised emrys — or rhys, as he preferred to be called — to be the strong, loving, and kind person he turned out to be.
at 18 years old, rhys surprised his entire family by announcing his intention to enlist in the army.  when the twin towers fell in 2001, rhys could remember the way his stomach plummeted.  seeing such devastation on US soil, seeing a country in ruin, stuck with him even at a young age.  he joined ROTC in high school and eventually went on to enlist in the army.  he made it through basic training and was deployed in iraq for 2 years before an injury saw him medevaced home.  he spent the greater part of the next year recovering from a blast that had nearly killed him when his convoy was attacked.  as one of the only survivors, rhys lived with a lot of survivor’s guilt and struggled to find his place.  he finished out his desk duty and left the army on good terms.  he was officially diagnosed with PTSD and made the choice to move away from nevada to start over.
so here’s the thing about rhys’ powers.  they didn’t manifest until late in life.  like, very late.  there were a few moments when he was younger that strange things happened, things he couldn’t explain, but when he TRIED to replicate what had happened ?  nothing.  it was only when pieces of shrapnel were about to rip through his face that he was able to throw his hands up, the pieces halting in mid-air as he was thrown through the window of their military vehicle.  his back was ripped to shreds, pain nearly suffocating him.  but he was alive.  he was alive, and they were dead.  somehow, he’d managed to stop the shrapnel from hitting him, long enough to crawl out of the wreckage and the line of fire.  it was there, on his stomach, that he wondered if this was god’s mercy or god’s wrath.  he’d been given the ability to save himself, but not to save the others.  it was too late for them.  it didn’t seem fair.
but new york was a fresh start.  new york didn’t remind him of the funerals, of flags handed over to grieving families while his own rejoiced that he was alive.  he’d survived, but alive wasn’t something he necessarily felt.  new york was an opportunity to do things better;  to be better.  so he decided to figure out what the FUCK these powers were and how he could use them to help people.  he enrolled in the police academy but ended up leaving the program.  it was more politics than he wanted to deal with and he knew there were more efficient ways he could use his powers - and his skills - to help people.  he ended up taking a temporary job as personal security for a tech guru and ended up enjoying the job so much he deferred education for over a year.  then he scaled back to part-time while he studied to be an EMT and completed the training program.  currently he is a paramedic / EMT in new york and has an apartment in brooklyn.  i say he has an apartment  but he spends most of his time working, at the gym, or picking up extra shifts and hours as part of ariella bellefleur’s personal security team.
when the academy called, at first rhys thought it was a joke.  of course he’d read the news articles, knew about the umbrella academy, but he’d never thought for a second that HE might be one of them. sure, he had powers, and over the years he’d finally figured out how to control them, but the idea that there were 42 people out there who were just like him? it seemed insane.  seeing it in person was even more insane, honestly.  if he hadn’t seen the other 42 with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed it.  seeing as he already lived in the city it hasn’t been uncommon to see him stopping by the academy just to take a look behind the curtain.  he imagines its what people would feel if they sat on the iron throne;  a part of something bigger, something that just might be kind of wonderful.

The Umbrella Academy Season 1 Episode 8
It's been mentioned throughout the series so far that Allison used her powers on her daughter, Claire, to the point where she now regrets ever having used her powers at all. We finally get to see this in action, and her then-husband's disgusted reaction over the entire thing.
Allison muses on this as she drives up to Leonard's cabin. There's also the heavy implication that she might have used her powers to get him to love her... but we'll see.
She gets to the cabin, but of course Leonard and Vanya are at the hospital. She drives around for a bit, before she drives past the restaurant where the incident had taken place. She asks the police officer in charge for information after she finds Vanya's scarf nearby... which the police somehow overlooked, for some unholy reason. After the office expresses his immense joy over meeting her, Allison lies and tells him that she's researching a role as a small town cop, and wants to shadow him for a while.
He goes to the hospital to question the only surviving victim of the attack the day before, one of the drunken hoodlums. He's frightened, and tells them that some guy paid him to rough him up in front of his girlfriend, but then he and his friends took things too far. Allison asks if Leonard paid him, but describes him as... brown hair, pudgy, with scruff, which... quite frankly, describes our poor victim here. She then shows the picture of Vanya on the back of her book, and asks if that was the girlfriend. However, the officer catches on, and asks Allison what's really going on. The nurse meanwhile takes the patient away, and Allison explains everything off-screen. The nurse then says that the patient has “mysteriously” disappeared, but before she goes to call security, Allison asks the nurse if she's seen Vanya, and the nurse agrees.
Klaus wakes Luther up, and he's... rather ashamed that he brought home the raver chick. Klaus ribs Luther about how it was probably his first time, before he calls everybody to the kitchen for an important announcement. However, Five is currently the only other one there. Klaus tells them that he spoke to dad, and that he killed himself. Luther doesn't believe him, and even Five is a little skeptical. Pogo comes in and says that it's true, to the point where he even turned off Grace's first aid abilities so that she wouldn't help save him. Luther storms out.
The other detective comes in to tell Diego that things look bad for him. That since he had a long history of fighting with the murdered detective, and his finger prints were found all over the scene, obviously he's the number one suspect right now.
He eventually goes back to the house, but lord knows how he managed to get out of police custody. From there, he joins up with Klaus and Five, and they go find Luther at a bar. He's upset that his father constantly manipulated them over and over like that. Diego tries to give him a pep talk before he mentions that Allison went off on her own to try and track down Vanya. This snaps Luther out of it, and they jump into action.
Cha-Cha meanwhile tries to figure out where it is that Hazel could have taken Agnes, especially knowing that the end of the world is in a few days. She finds some bird sanctuary brochure that Agnes had circled (despite the fact that it's literally a brochure for the sanctuary and it's literally the only thing on the map). After finding it, Cha-Cha turns the gas stove on, lights a candle, and walks dramatically away from the doughnut shop as it explodes.
Hazel takes Agnes to a motel by the bird sanctuary and asks her what she would do if she only had two days left to live. Well, one day to travel and get there, and one day to do whatever. She says that she wouldn't mind so long as she got to spend it with him. He says that he has something important that he needs to take care of, and urges her to go to the bird sanctuary without him. He takes out her luggage and leaves, but she just seems hurt and confused.
When the children were four, Reginald tried to train Vanya. He used a tuning fork and a row of wine glasses. However, one day, she shattered all of them in seconds, and also cracked his monocle. After that, he literally locked her in an underground bunker, where I'm sure he experimented with various tranquilizers.
At one point, he brought Allison in, and she “heard a rumor that you thought you were ordinary”.
After Leonard gets up, he discharges himself and they go home to practice with Vanya's powers. He's read Reginald's journal, so he has some idea that Vanya's powers are sound based. He takes to the woods, where she focuses on the sound of a nearby stream, and makes it really windy... but then accidentally breaks a tree branch, but they don't get crushed by it.
Later, they get into a little argument because Vanya actually has a life outside of her powers and wants to practice her violin for the concert. Which is tomorrow.
After practicing for a bit, she comes inside to find Leonard gone. She has a random panic attack, but then she picks up her violin and continues to play, all the while making everything in the cabin sway.
This is how Allison finds her. She's shocked but overall at least pretending to be pleased that Vanya has powers. She also briefly explains about what Reginald made her do to Vanya. When they were four. I repeat for emphasis that they were literally four years old when this incident happened.
It goes over about as well as you might expect. “You just didn't want to have to compete for attention! You wanted to be the only special one!” Which, I mean, I get that finding out that your sister is an accomplice to all of that is insanely upsetting. But once again, for emphasis: ALLISON WAS FOUR YEARS OLD.
Allison then tries to tell Vanya about Leonard/Harold, but Vanya's not having any of that. Vanya starts screaming at Allison, and everything starts violently moving. The lights all break, and you can tell that Allison is getting freaked out. Allison starts to say that she heard a rumor, but Vanya makes a violent slashing motion, and slices Allison's neck.
Which Vanya instantly regrets, obviously. Leonard comes back just then, and urges Vanya from the house. As the speed away, we see the dead body of the last surviving “victim” under the elevated porch area.
Luther, Diego, Klaus, and Five arrive at the cabin, only to find Allison's dead body. Obviously very upsetting for a number of reasons.
