Bonus: you're quirkless and he's a pro hero, so you live in two different worlds. The glue? His cute nephew that's obsessed with rocks and that just so happens to be in your kindergarten class.

In short: You've become obsessed, you suppose. But that's all right, you're not the only one that's obsessed.

2 - You're Obsessed With Me

Shouto has never seen a woman so perfect.

He had heard of you before. Every so often, when Shouto would take Kaoru out on a playdate or visit Natsuo, his nephew would casually bring you up.

"Y/N-sensei let me bring my rock collection for show n' tell."

"Oji-san, Y/N-sensei cuts her apple slices like rabbits. I wan' rabbits too."

"Today was Y/N-sensei's birthday, so I gave her a rock."

In a way, Shouto knew you. He knew about how you loved to take your students on field trips and that you want to travel to Venice someday and that you cry at every little milestone. He knew all of this from the lovely little stories that his lovely little nephew would tell him.

What he did not know was how obsessed he'd be with you once he'd finally met you. That afternoon, about an hour after eating his lunch and about 30 minutes into his patrol, he had received a call from his secretary and the authorities that there was a villain wreaking havoc at the Hosu City Aquarium. That afternoon, when he rushed to the scene with his five-year-old nephew's safety and the safety of others occupying his mind.

That afternoon, you laid there on the tile floor, wrists bound together and arms cut up, with the most beautiful face ever- 'Eugh! Weirdo!' Shouto mentally gives himself a slap to the face while shaking his head, prompting him out of his daydream. He looks down at Kaoru, the little boy holding his uncle's hand and observing the passing cars. Reaching the agency, Shouto types in his password and enters, bringing Kaoru along with him.

"Kaoru-kun, I just need to finish up a report before we can go back to your house, okay?"

"Okay, oji-san." As they approach the elevator, Kaoru looks up at Shouto with puppy eyes, making Shouto chuckle. "Go ahead." The five-year-old cheers and makes a beeline for the elevator, reaching up to press the up button. The elevator arrives, and the white-haired boy leads his uncle inside, also reaching up to press the 4th floor button.

Once they reach Shouto's office floor, Kaoru sits on the couch and looks at Shouto patiently, though his face reflecting expectancy. Shouto quirks a brow and kneels down at his nephew. "Yes, Kaoru-kun?"

"Do you have games on your phone?"

"..."

"Kaoru-kun, do you have your subway card?" Turning off the lights, Shouto leads his nephew into the elevator. He observes the little boy nod in response, a pleasant hum escaping him.

"That's good. We'll take the subway back to your house, okay?"

"Okay, oji-san."

Opening the main door for Kaoru, the two exit the agency and head to the nearby subway station. Almost 6:40pm, they board the train and Shouto makes sure that his nephew has a seat. As the subway starts moving, Shouto's thoughts once again wander. 'Does she take the subway home too? How long has she been a teacher for? And she's quirkless too? She's so brave.' Amidst the sound of chattering tracks and pleasant thoughts, the pro hero hears a little rumbling sound and smiles softly.

"Kaoru-kun, are you hungry? I can buy you dinner before we get you home." Kaoru nods shyly. Shouto nods in acknowledgement and helps the little boy find his way to the subway doors before they open. Once the subway stops, they exit it and push past the large herd of people. "Kaoru," Shouto squeezes his nephew's hand comfortingly. "What do you want to eat?" His gaze meets round, doe eyes.

"Salmon onigiri!" Hearing that, the heterochromatic man takes Kaoru to the convenience store and buys him his dinner.

"Kaoru! You're safe!" Natsuo envelops his son in a hug, receiving a whine of protest. Shouto laughs at the sight. "I already fed him, Natsu-ani. No injuries and no problems." His elder brother lets out a sigh of relief and looks face-to-face at his son. "Thank goodness... thank you so much, Shouto. I was so worried." The man in question shakes his head. "I'm glad I was there on time, and Kaoru behaved." "Really? That's good." He ruffles Kaoru's hair. "Thank you, kiddo." Looking up at Shouto again, he stands up and offers a smile.

"I made hambugu (hamburg-steak) for dinner, do you wanna stay and eat?" "Thanks for the offer, but I ate already with Kaoru. I'll just head home now." Natsuo nods. "If you're sure, thanks again, Shou." The brothers both bow in respect to each other, Kaoru copying his father. Shouto smiles and gently pats his nephew's head. "Goodnight, Kaoru-kun. Have a good weekend." "You too, oji-san." The pro hero heads back out and walks to the station to return to his own home.

Shouto thinks that the American idea of Manifest Destiny must be true, because here you are, blessing him with your magnificent presence at his local grocery store (SPOILER! Shouto Todoroki is a Japanese citizen for a reason. That is NOT what Manifest Destiny is). You miraculously don't seem to notice his jaw-dropped expression, too busy reaching up to grab the specific brand of honey shampoo that you always buy. You're not wearing anything fancy: comfy sweats and a turtleneck for the slightly chilly weather.

But god, Shouto thinks that you're fine.

And did someone turn up the thermostat? Because suddenly, when you finally notice him and smile, the left side of his face flairs up. Thankfully it's not much, just a few flames that lick his face. Both yours and his eyes widen as Shouto quickly gets rid of the flames, leaving his cheeks dusted pink. "S-sir! Are you alright?" Oh goodness, you're coming closer! The air gets knocked out of Shouto's lungs when you look up at him with those doe eyes and worried expression. Clearing his throat, the pro hero attempts to save his ass.

"Ah, L/N-sensei, I apologize. I'm alright."

"No need to apologize! And no need to call me sensei." Your voice sounds like an angelic choir to Shouto, tone so sweet like candy. The tall man can only hope not to embarrass himself even further.

"Do you live in this area? I've never seen you here before." You nod cheerfully. "Mhm! I actually just moved here a few weeks ago because I got a pay raise. It's a beautiful area, and all the residents that I've met so far are lovely." Shouto likes how you're so cheerful and positive. Your face is welcoming and so far, you always seem to have a smile on your face. His eyes observe your left wrist, recalling the events of the day before. "Is your wrist okay?"

"Yes! I put some ice and it really helped with the swelling. I still try not to use it, but it doesn't hurt as much. Hopefully it will be back to normal soon!" Shouto's gaze softens, a soft smile appearing on his face as he adjusts his shopping bag hanging from his arm.

"That's good." He suddenly remembers something. "If I may ask, how long have you been teaching for?" "Hm..." Shouto can feel his heart do somersaults as he watches her slightly furrow her brows while thinking. 'Cute.' "This is my fourth year teaching. Ever since I started my career, I've been the kindergarten teacher for the school!" You giggle when Shouto's eyes widen. "Teaching young children is my passion. I love my students and want them to succeed. Sometimes it's a little hard when graduation rolls around the corner." He watches you dismiss yourself with a sheepish laugh, impressed at your dedication to teaching. The red- and white-haired man thinks it's absolutely adorable when you gush about teaching and your students. Every word that came out of your mouth, tumbling out of your kissable lips this loser really really really wants to kiss you :(, he becomes even more hooked.

And then, you take his breath away once more when you twirl a strand of your glossy hair and smile.

"You know, it's really nice interacting with a pro hero outside of their 'hero mode.' I've never done this before, and you're really kind, Todoroki-san!" Shouto's cheeks flush even more red at your sentiment. You enjoy talking to him??? Inside, he's mentally cheering screaming, on the outside, he's just looking at you with a shocked expression.

Yeah, you broke him. Yet, you don't seem to notice because instead of teasing him (like what his friends would have probably done), instead your cheeks turn a slight shade of pink like peaches and begin to speak again.

"If you're willing, I'd love to grab coffee with you sometime!" Shouto was definitely broken now, because his left side flares up with small flames again and you panic over him.

"Todoroki-san!?!"

In simple terms, Japan's Hottest Hero, Shouto Himura Todoroki, was definitely a loser boy man in love.

So, i think the criteria for this tournament needs to be shared, since its not only the classic bad end friends but we also got wayyy more characters here and i would like include your suggestions for the next year's poll.

Rules and basic criteria to count a character as a BEF

I decided to separate this characters in categories so its easier to explain:

"Main/secondary character is now evil!!!"

I think we all get this one. Certain characters end up on the other side of the battle, by choice or maybe bc he didn't have one!! Betraying their morals and everyone else. They maybe became crazy and/or are being mind controlled/ possessed

Now, this has its own subcategories to take account:

"Oh no! I got possesed or mind controlled!"

Very self-explanatory, character that is now controlled by the villain/antagonist.

"Multiversal typa shit"

CANONICAL AUs where the character has turned up evil/in an antagonistic role, by any reason

"TRAITOR!!!!"

When a character changes sides by "choice," they might still be themselves but felt betrayed/are being manipulated/they simply decided to betray the rest for their own benefit.

"Hell nah, they went feral"

Character that got turned into a monster/some kind of creature

"Evil alter ego takes control"

A second personality fully controls the character now.

"Ain't evil, just a failure"

As the tittle "bad end" suggests, we also include characters that ended up meeting a depressing fate without necessarily becoming evil

This one has some restrictions obviously:

The character needs some sort of appearance change

Something REALLY REALLY BAD has happened to them, a significant defeat.

DOPPLEGANGERS

To make it short, a character that is a replica/clone of the mc and their goal must be replaced/ defeat the original one. Its not necessarily required for them to be explicitly "evil," but if they wanna replace the og, they sure do count.

FANON BAD ENDINGS

There are lots of fanon bad endings on this AU, but the general rule is that it has to have some sort of logic on the character's original lore, or at least be based on a fate that is kinda plausible to happen. So we don't end up accepting every single Sans AU that comes across, lol.

These characters can't come out of nowhere. It needs a valid justification to make em accountable. "Theres a chapter where the villain tells the hero to become evil aswell bc they're their father, so in the canon says no, but the BEF is that he says yes." See? It was plausible and justified.

(There sure might be some exeptions to this rule such as Wirt and Marco, but at least Wirt making a deal with the beast doesnt come out of nowhere, technically talking Tom did curse marco on the original series, i know that their whole deal is too stretched but they have been here since the beginning so who are we to kick em off.)

NOT ALLOWED:

Creepypastas: we tryin to stick with canon here, you know? Creepypastas often just turn characters evil and into demons just because, thats not what we are going for!

Role swap AUs: Those definitely are not even considered. Since they're way too far from the actual canon.

Completely non-canon/very unlikely situations: "but he can get possessed by the villain!!" So as every other character, if its extremely rare for it to happen, don't even bring it up.

Robots (in a doppleganger sense): yeah obviously this rule doesn't talk about robot/android characters like murderdrones or something, but it's about robotic clones with not really their own conciousness Just, machines.

Fanon media in general: stuff like comics, fangames, or any fanmade product of any existing media with a bad ending will not be counted. No, you can't submit your fnf mods. im sorry

ABSOLUTELY NO OCS: no original characters, im being REALLY CLEAR WITH THIS ONE. No, your shadow2 the hedgehog original character do not steal cannot be counted.

Self-conscious, Geten hurriedly makes a wall of ice facing Hawks so he can gobble down food without being watched. A childhood memory comes back to Hawks while he observes Geten.

"You always eat it like that," someone says while Child Hawks sits in a corner bolting down food.

Hawks: Are you okay? It's safe here.

No one will take it from you.

Hawks: (Repeating what the parental figure told him in a flashback)

There is no one to threaten you so it's okay. (What am I doing?)

Geten: (in between bites gobbling food) But I'm nervous. If I hesitate, he'll come. I don't want to see you.

Both men start gobbling down food and someone says, 'hurry up'. Dabi approaches in the background like............?

Shinso is Midoriya’s main rival/foil among his classmates and actually gets a proper arc, Shigiraki can continue to be his villain rival

No Bakugo, he’s not plot relevant at all after the first episode. We will vaguely refer back to him in the final season with a shot of him staring at one of Deku’s battles from like a store or something but that’s it I want him gone

Female Shouto Todoroki

Also less in the whole Todoroki family arc about how sad Endeavour is that his family hates him for abusing them for their whole lives and more about the Todosibs complicated relationships with each other and Rei

No villains for the entire first season its just focused on UA, the competitive environment and how Izuku adapts to that and also his blossoming friendships

No Toga Ochako foil, there’s no reason for them to be foils sans ‘girl’. Idk develop that one gas villain (Mustard?) or whatever and have him be Ochako’s foil

Give Toga a proper character about self identity or whatever instead of just that love bullshit, idk she can foil someone else, I like villain hero foils but Ochako Toga was not it for me

The first villain the UA kids would fight is Stain. This isn’t just bc the Stain arc is one of my personal favorites, but I think it would be a cool transition between a mainly school focused 1st and partially 2nd season that would mainly worldbuild and get us into hero society and graducally exposing the flaws in that society. Given the LoV are basically just a bunch of people who are the result of the cracks in hero society I think it would be a nice seguway

Also Iida Tensi should actually be a corrupt hero.

Aizawa is actually forced to realize he’s a shitty teacher and has to undergo a character arc to be nicer to the people around him and realize that trauma does not make people stronger, it didn’t for him and it won’t for his students

Significantly more of 1A and 1B should be from hero families. Nepotism baybee.

More focus on some of the topics in heroism set up earlier in the series, like how heroes are paid based on who gets credit for taking down a villain and things like public image and charisma and how that allows for more corruption to fester

Either develop Aoyama more and make us care about him or make someone else (ie Ochako, refer back to my ‘why Ochako should have been the UA traitor post) the traitor who we actually care about

Keep Izuku analyzing quirks jesus fuck let him think instead of just be a plot device

Let at least some of 1A ultimately become vigilantes after realizing the system is corrupt and made to benefit the people in power and heroes in this world are just functionally superpowered cops and that’s not the right type of system to see as morally infallible- *I am shot and killed by Horikoshi*

Heya man huge huuuuuuge fan of your acount so i would like to say a few things i feel like mha has so many wasted characters like class b and most of the plf like i know the main cast is going to get most of the focus but its like... so much potential is wasted to me. What is your opionon on this?

Shonen cast bloat’s a bitch. This is true of many series, but ESPECIALLY this one. However, I have an almost opposite opinion from you: in many ways, I wish many of the side characters weren’t there at all because they, especially with how many there are, sometimes draw away from the main and primary supporting cast, which is what this story is about.

Well-used side characters do what they came to do (which means they sometimes explain the moral or theme to their intended audience of younger readers), and I feel like most of the characters do that. And if they don’t, I’m very much a Bakugo (or a ShigAfO) about it when it comes to this series: I don’t care about the potential of extras. If they don’t do their job, my only desire is that they get cut from the story for a stronger final draft.

I have a terrible confession to make in the case of 1-B: outside of Monoma, Kendo, Mushroom gal and Honnenuki, I don’t really care about Class 1-B. I also don’t feel like we really need to. They were there as functional adversaries-of-the-week and did their job very well and got to be fun little western superhero-and-eastern shonen reference characters through their powers and appearances at the same time.

So, no, I don’t feel like they have that much potential to waste.

My feelings about many of the characters outside of 1-B are pretty much the same, but I feel like I should point out a couple notable examples:

Mt. Lady - had an arc. Wasn’t a big one but was nice. I didn’t need any more.

Ms. Joke - did what she needed to do. She might be fun to follow for like a TUM volume, but I really don’t care that much.

Aizawa - his full story got told in Vigilantes and I LOVED IT. Would have been fine sacrificing, like, the entire Class 1-A vs Class 1-B arc and maybe some PLF setup to have the real estate for it instead in the main series tho

Grand - he did what he needed to do. I don’t care about his potential, only his goals and resolve, and we saw that by the end.

Fatgum - I fucking love this guy. I would watch a whole series about him, but I don’t need it. He said what he said.

Shiketsu/Remedial Class kids - did we need everything we got? No. Would I trade it for anything? No. Did I feel there was more to tell? Absolutely not. Would I read more if it was offered? Absolutely would.

Class 1-A - This is my second dirty little secret: the Hero Academia is my LEAST FAVORITE PART OF MY HERO ACADEMIA. (The Endeavor arc is my favorite part because we get to ditch the class and teachers and focus on the main cast sans Toshinori.) I actually would be happy if the class was significantly smaller. We do not need all those kids. However, I found all of them charming and cute at minimum so I was not upset by their inclusion - I just found much of it unnecessary. I don’t see it as potential that has been wasted, though. I see it as a waste of story real estate.

My Villain Academia - Geten, ReDestro, and the PLF did what they came into the story to do. I do not care about any potential they might have outside of that, and they did a great job setting up Dabi/Toya to have one of the best moments in the series.

The previous OfA users - dude. I do not want to sit through the detailed life and times of all eight of them. I am happy to ignore anything that isn’t immediately relevant to the story at hand.

Wash - this is the most crucial character of the cast. He is perfect and perfect in the amount we’re given. Do NOT @ me.

Best: Stormy weather

What can I say, the look is iconic for a reason, she set the bar high and she always blows away the competition.

The twisting hair, the purple dress and slick akuma shaped mask. Also the choice of weapon.

Worst: Animan

The problem is he has no original form. Vanisher also has the same problem but his just seems lazier considering he gets to be the main akuma in an episode.

Not much to say except do better

Season 2 Best and Worst

Best: Reverser

I love the symmetry of his design. It’s something Death the kid and Thanos would agree with. The asthetic works so well and while I’m grading on looks it’s neat how his power factors in.

It’s boring. It’s so standard that it’s not even bad. Some of the designs this season were weird but I can’t say they were awful. But this one is just bland. I will probably forget it after I post this

Season 3 Best and worst

Best: Desperada

I want to specify this is Solely asthetic. She isn’t my favorite akuma and the episode she is in is divisive, but I love her look. The music theme and bad ass rocker make up with touches of Gold. Different instrument weapons. Brilliant aesthetic.

Worst: Loveater

Season 3 had a lot of not that great designs but Loveater is a horrific monster. And is still the UGLIEST akuma to this day. It’s the embodiment of what a toxic relationship looks like.

Best: Qilin

Originally I was going to put wishmaker on here, but Damn does this design Slap! And there are some solid designs. I just wish the episode debut was better. Outside of that, it’s just a cool armor and the glowing jade eyes are cool.

Worst: Ephemeral

If Loveater is the visual representation of a toxic relationship, Ephemeral is the visual representation of Child abuse. The design looks so wrong, looking like a neon grape and the sad look on his face sells it. While even the ugliest designs have some charm, this is just a crime to look at.

Season 5 Best and Worst

Best: Safari

It’s the best akuma design. The Hunter/Lara Croft tomb raider asthetic. The shades, then boots. The way her hair looks. The fit got me acting up. Plus while it’s unrelated to the asthetic, the way she tells Monarch to f*** off, and Provides the kwami swap episode we deserved. Easiest pick for me.

Worst: Sans-Culotte

She looks like a glob of toothpaste. I feel like she was in a Aquafresh commercial and while I get what they were going for… I hate the design. It doesn’t look good. It looks like she doesn’t have a nose.

1. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge: it's as old as me and still running in a theatre after all these years. it's literally that movie. the biggest reason he's called the king of romance and there wasn't even a kissing scene in this. hasn't aged. beautiful soundtrack. and the infamous mustard field

2. My Name is Khan: 14th feb 2010, 3pm show in a single screen theatre and i had the time of my life watching my first srk movie in "talkies". i was so happy i was gonna cry finally in a theatre and wept i did. he was so fucking good in this kajol's comeback directed by karan johar. lots of tears. and some more. 9/11 background but it's a love story still. he should have won the national award and that jury will end up in hell someday :)

3. Veer-Zaara: romeo and juliet's tragedy is nothing compared to veer-zaara's. the songs the music the acting the actors the director the writer everything was just so good. a lot of people don't know this but eye acting was actually invented by shah rukh khan

4. Dil to Pagal Hai: a musical about a musical the soundtrack slayyyyed then it slayyyys now. underrated on current tumblr but i think i am starting to prefer that because DTPH is mine. i never had a crush on shahrukh but if any character of his ever came close it was from this movie. one of his sexiest characters imo. did i mention the songs were way too good.

5. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham: shahrukh really cries like children do. who knew weeping can have range. great songs great cast. kajol in orange. srk in see-through shirts. it's actually a family drama but it's fun also his mother in the movie has a superpower.

6. Om Shanti Om: no bollywood movie has ever bollywooded the way OSO did. love friendship reincarnation hero heroine villain nepotism revenge action comedy great music (and one more thing but that's a huge spoiler) it really just had everything. one of the finest masala movies ever made. it's tumblr's favourite as it should be. also this movie is how i learnt san francisco rhymes with disco

7. Baazigar: the directors were having trouble finding the lead actor because nobody wanted to take the risk then srk told the producer that nobody can play this role as good as he can and he became the first actor in the history of filmfare to win the best actor award after playing a negative role. a cult classic.

8. Darr: it's the 90s it's the hero heroine villain era when the audiences think the people who play villains are bad people irl and dislike them. sunny deol an already established "hero" is the hero of the movie and srk is the villain a scary stalker and what happened was that the audiences really loved him instead. (my sister got scared of him enough that she started crying in the theatre and my parents had to leave mid-movie a wuss). something that couldn't have been achieved by just anyone except the future king of bollywood. oh lots of switzerland. also the legendary director of the movie kinda adopted srk and started casting him in every movie of his afterwards.

9. Fan: about an obsessed fan (not me just tbc). underrated af.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa: i was younger than 4 srk wasn't my favourite "hero" yet but his character from this movie was my first blorbo. my murderous rage awakened for him. the first character i ever related to was also from this movie. gangster uncle 🤜🏾🤛🏾 me. srk was so baby (he was like 28) there was also ra ra rasputin in this. srk loves this movie so do i.

An Au blog concept I was thinking about but don't want to commit to is "Spamton: Au to Au salesman!" (The main message of this Au is a look at Au cliches.) It would start off as him going to different Au blogs and trying to scam them through the ask + he would have his own ask thing and you can learn about him. He stole "A [Doohicky]" and that's why he can go to different Au's. He's bands from the Omega Timeline. This would start as a joke but when the story truly begins we would learn it's much more serious than that. My idea is at some point, his "Doohicky" would malfunction, and while in a cannon timeline, he would pull that player into the "Au-verse". She is a streamer who speedruns Undertale and Deltarune's endings. This is when foreshadowing for the real story should start getting more "noticeable." Spamton would still be doing his thing and the streamer would have to tag along with him. (He has a computer that he pretends gives him his power. If you took the computer away from him, he would pretend to be powerless... until that got boring at least.) I want them to run into the story's villain at some point and not realize it; My take on an "Evil Sans". He's dressed in a dirty gray robe, white striped shirt, pink striped boxers, and his slippers and torn. His Au was discarded, but he refused to die. Because of it, he lost his grip on reality and just wants to mess with the code of other Au's. It's about the third time they meet him that he learns the streamer IS the player and begins to hunt them down seeing himself as the hero. He acts like Cannon Sans btw; cracking jokes, messing with the main characters, and even talking to them when he's "on break". But don't be fooled; He's way too high a LV to be trusted. I also want the Streamer to be captured by a Spamton NEO that the villain Sans convinces to attack them. This would somehow lead to Spamton having to break into the Omega Timeline... I want him to run into the person he stole his "Doohicky" from here so they can join the party... after a fight... (I'm thinking they could be an Asriel, Frisk, Chara, or a Flowey.) Oh yeah, and the gimmick gets turned into a "side hustle" at some point. That's all I have planned, but I just can't commit myself to making it. I have my Itch games, my personal projects, this blog, and stuff like that in my way. Just want to put the idea on the table. If I ever feel I have the time, I'll make this. If anybody wants to make this, please tell me I would love to follow that blog!

I feel sorry for Papyrus, because he did more for Frisk then Sans did AND he actually tries to practice what the story preaches AND he actually wants to be popular, but his brother gets more of the popularity, while he's either in his brother's shadow or his brother's glorified moral compass...

I feel sorry for Sans, because he just wants to be lazy, joke around and left alone, yet people want to make out with him (or ship him with either an old lady, a little kid or even his own brother)... Then create other versions of him (and his brother) to also make out with... They always try to make him the main hero or villain, but Sans is too tired for that...

Hypothetical MCU show: “Shang-Chi and the Hawkeyes”

PLOT SUMMARY:

A few months after the events of “Hawkeye”, Kate Bishop has been living on the Barton family farm in order to finish training with Clint Barton. Despite a rough adjustment period due to city girl Kate moving into a farm, the training has been going well. Kate is ready to start her superhero career, but Clint is hesitant, especially since he’s started viewing her as his daughter figure. Since the two Hawkeyes have been doing nothing but training, the Bartons decide to take everyone on a vacation to San Francisco.

Around the same time, Shang-Chi has been working with Wong to figure out what the origins of the Ten Rings are. From what they found, they learn that Wenwu stole the rings from the mystical lost city K’un L’un, home of the Iron Fist. Shang-Chi learns this the hard way when he’s confronted by the current Iron Fist, Colleen Wing, who wants the rings back (this would be the first major fight scene of the show).

Shang-Chi and Colleen’s fight is interrupted by a group of mercenaries who are also after the rings. The mercenaries are being led by the main villain Kenuichio Harada (also known as Silver Samurai), the most powerful crime boss in all of Japan and Wenwu’s most hated rival. This leads to a massive chase scene, which ends with Shang-Chi running into the Bartons.

So, unfortunately for Clint and Kate, they’re forced into the fight now that they’ve gotten involved with Shang-Chi. But we’re also hit with a twist; Silver Samurai, upon learning that Clint Barton is helping Shang-Chi, puts all his resources into play to stop our heroes. This is because Clint killed Harada’s twin brother Akihiko, the same Yakuza boss from “Endgame”.

Thus, we have multiple arcs for our heroes to deal with:

1) Shang-Chi trying to make peace with Colleen Wing, as well as trying to prevent the Silver Samurai from stealing the ten rings

3) Clint Barton being forced to deal with his Ronin past once again since his killing of Akihiko has come back to haunt him

4) Kate Bishop on her first rodeo as the newly minted Hawkeye, as well as facing off against super-powered people for the first time

5) While all this is happening, the Barton family and Katy Chen find themselves being targeted due to their ties to Shang-Chi, Clint, and Kate

CAST:

Of course, we have our returning characters Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, and Xu Shang-Chi.

Laura Barton and the Barton kids will likely have more prominent roles in this series, especially since they’ll be paired up with Katy Chen.

Wong comes back as a guest character.

Since Akihiko is Kenuichio’s twin, Hiroyuki Sanada is brought back to play Silver Samurai.

Jessica Henwick reprises her role as Colleen Wing.

Tony Leung briefly reprises his role as Wenwu, specifically to show how Wenwu stole the ten rings from K’un L’un.

MISCELLANEOUS:

1) The season’s story can be split like this: Group A is Clint, Kate, and Shang-Chi / Group B is the Barton family and Katy / Group C is Colleen Wing on her own / Silver Samurai is the main threat to all three groups.

2) I pictured the main trio’s dynamic to be that Clint relates to Shang-Chi due to them being men who are trying to escape their past. Shang-Chi and Kate get along as newbie heroes. Maybe this isn’t a perfect comparison, but think of them as Batman, Batgirl, and one of the Robins.

3) Show ends with Clint giving his blessing to Kate to join the Avengers, as well as inviting Shang-Chi to join. Clint ponders retirement, but then says something about how being in San Francisco has made him consider moving out to the West Coast (obviously a nod to a potential West Coast Avengers team).

4) Colleen and Shang-Chi make peace at the end and it’s implied that Colleen will continue to appear in the Shang-Chi movies. It’s also implied she knows the secret behind the rings (the signal that it sent out at the end of the first Shang-Chi movie).

Strictly no heroics, by B. L. Radley

The world is run by those with the Super gene, and Riley Jones doesn’t have it. She’s just a Normie, ducking her way around the hero vs. villain battles that constantly demolish Sunnylake City, working at a crappy diner to save up money for therapy, and trying to figure out how to tell her family that she’s queer. But when Riley retaliates against a handsy superhero at work, she finds herself in desperate need of employment, and the only place that will hire her is HENCH. Yes, HENCH, as in henchmen: masked cronies who take villains' coffee orders, vacuum their secret lairs, and posture in the background while they fight. Riley's plan is to mind her own business and get paid...but that quickly devolves when she witnesses a horrible murder on the job. Caught in the thick of a gentrification plot, a unionization effort, and a developing crush on her prickly fellow henchwoman, Riley must face the possibility that even a powerless Normie can take a stand against injustice.

The writing was very reminiscent of tumblr folk tales, probably because B. L. Radley apparently used to(?) write on here. Or maybe I thought that because I knew Radley wrote on tumblr... Whichever it is, the vibes of the writing style were there, it was fun

It was also nice to have representation that doesn't end at "this character is gay, and this one is black": we get different gender and sexual identities, different body types (our MC doesn't have gressin limbs), different skin colors, Riley's sister even has a prosthetic leg. I feel like a lot of people would think it's too """woke""" but like, that's actually what the real world looks like outside of your bubble? Minorities are still a good chunk of the population and queer people do tend to band together, somehow. Anyways, I really liked that aspect of the story

The plot wasn't some convoluted evil master plan from some removed villain with the fate of the world at stake, it was closer to home (which makes sense given Riley and her lack of powers), so it was really refreshing and made the whole story seem way more realistic.

I'll definitely want to read more of Radley's works if they get more publishing deals after this one!

Elle travaille dans un dinner minable pour pour payer sa thérapie tout en essayant de trouver le moyen de dire à sa famille qu'elle est queer. Seulement, lorsque Riley se venge d'un super héros aux mains baladeuses au travail, elle se retrouve en manque cruel d'un emploi et la seule entreprise qui veut bien l'embaucher est SBIRE. Oui, SBIRE, comme les sbires masqués des super villains qui prennent leur commande de café, nettoient leur repaire secret, et font les durs en arrière-plan pendant qu'ils se battent. Riley compte se mêler de ses affaires et toucher sa paie, mais ce plan tombe rapidement à l'eau lorsqu'elle assiste à un meurtre horrible au travail. Prise au milieu d'un complot d'embourgeoisement, d'une tentative de syndicalisation et ses sentiments naissants envers son irritable collègue, Riley devra faire face à la possibilité que même une Normie sans pouvoirs puisse prendre position contre l'injustice.

Le style d'écriture m'a rappelé les contes populaires de tumblr, probablement parce que B. L. Radley écrit (écrivait ?) sur le site. Ou peut-être que j'y ai pensé parce que je savais que Radley écrivait sur tumblr... Dans tous les cas, les vibes étaient là, c'était fun

C'était aussi sympa d'avoir de la représentation qui s'arrête pas à "ce personnage est gay et celui-là est noir" : on voit différentes identités de genres, différentes sexualités, types de morphologies (notre personnage principale n'a pas des membres-gressins), couleurs de peau. La soeur de Riley a même une prothèse de jambe. Je suis sûre que beaucoup de gens trouveraient ça trop """woke""", mais euh, c'est à ça que le monde réel ressemble en dehors de leur bulle ? Les minorités représentent quand même une bonne partie de la population et les personnes queer ont tendance à se regrouper, d'une façon ou d'une autre. Bref, j'ai vraiment apprécié cet aspect du roman

L'intrigue était pas un plan alambiqué fomenté par un lointain méchant où le sort du monde est en jeu, c'était une échelle plus humaine (ce qui a du sens au vu du manque de pouvoirs de Riley), donc c'était très rafraichissant et rendait l'histoire bien plus réaliste

Je lirai absolument plus de livres par Radley si iel publie d'autres livres à l'avenir !

batman is like... seeing himself as both the hero and savior but also a sinner I think. that's why I get a total different vibe with dust.

cuz he doesn't see himself as the main character. he knows damn well the main character is the red soul.

he's not a judge nor is he the executioner.

he's not justice nor vengeance.

he's not a hero or a villain. he's not even that important to count his actions as meaningful.

I think it's cuz he's disassociating from fully processing the reality of it.

to him he prefers to shrug it off as a prank or joke or something he did just for the sake of it to piss the player off.

he wasn't the joker but he definitely was the punchline of his own joke.

but if he was a joker wouldn't that make crimson an entire circus?

like... thing is dust has lived through so many deaths that I doubt even killing everyone is seen as something meaningful to him. it's an obligation.

because he himself gets to choose how his story ends at his own means.

well alternatively he'd hope everyone would have that choice but unless someone REMEMBERS resets sans just can't SEE them as people anymore.

he can't even see himself as a person. none of them matter. but why should they?

I think like... dust really doesn't care about the surface or vengeance. much like classic when he says that in his final confrontation.

that's not what that last fight was about.

sans is strategic. he only uses his magic on you IF YOU'VE KILLED EVERYONE FOR HIM. your LV gives HIS MAGIC buffs.

the more he LETS you kill the more chances he'll have against you.

I feel like... dust grew tired. grew sick of himself. that he left the dirt work to you. that he himself was watching people suffer without getting his hands dirty.

it's like a trolley problem. after ignoring the screaming crowd again and again allowing them to due without intervening he decides that their inevitable death will be FROM GIM FINALLY PULLING THE LEVER.

because well... morally it doesn't really make him a worse person than what he already saw himself as.

maybe just a little bit less of a hypocrite than classic.

I think he did it for himself. to say that he'd never become like crimson. someone who will stand and WATCH while avoiding the consequences. he wanted to take the hit.

statistically it made no sense to trade LV for karma.

in fact he'd be putting so much more needless effort...

but papyrus wouldn't like him being lazy. he wouldn't want him taking shortcuts. he wouldn't want his brother to neglect everything and become apathetic.

he wouldn't. he'd MAKE HIMSELF CARE even if he had to mentally scar himself.

Based on the interpretations of Touyas lines in this latest chapter, I think Hori really showcases how little Touya actually wanted from his family. Literally less than 1 minute of focused attention from his family seems to be enough to start tipping the scales towards a turn around and I think Hori has done a fantastic job of showing how easily this could have been avoided for the readers

I don't disagree, but I would like to carefully point out that I don't think that's the purpose of this scene. In my opinion, Horikoshi has already showcased the wrongs Touya's family perpetrated against him and how Touya wanted them to be righted. His family even acknowledged those wrongs and voiced their regrets in the hospital post-PLW. Horikoshi has no need to belabor the point. Touya's line this chapter calls his family's actions "simple," but simple does not mean easy.

The act of "looking at Touya" was about acknowledging him for who he is. The Todoroki family's troubles tie in perfectly to the main themes of the story because they were a representation of the problems with quirk society. Quirk society was such that people were treated as though all their worth was in their quirks. People are seen as quirks and not people. The same thing was happening with Endeavor's dream. He viewed his children as quirks. He wanted a quirk that would beat All Might. He never considered All Might the man or the humanity of his children in the process. His obsession was directed at quirks.

Touya wanted to be seen. He wanted to be acknowledged for who he was, but he recognized his father only could see quirks. That's why Touya constantly trained and tried to prove he could outdo Shouto. He wanted his father to look at him, and the only thing his father would look at was a quirk.

Only many years later, after Dabi's broadcast, do the entire Todoroki family (sans Touya) meet (that post-PLW hospital scene again) and actually discuss their feelings about the situation. Everything they did in the past was to maintain the purpose of the family, which was to make a perfect quirk. After Touya's death, they each went through their own grieving and self-discovery process. Dabi's broadcast brought everything to a head, and they were all forced to come to a conclusion. And so each person expressed their regrets and their desire to "look at that child." They were ready to give Touya what he wants since then...with the exception of Endeavor. Endeavor had a bit more waffling until the point was hammered home by Shouto.

But the next part was that Touya had to be ready to receive what he wanted so long ago. That was the point of Shouto wearing him down and placating him with Phosphor and Dabi catching his second wind and self-destructing in his own obsession. It would've been so much simpler if the family had given him what he wanted so long ago because now there were so many layers of Dabi to break through before they could reach Touya. Dabi exists because he saw that even his death did not effect the change in his family he wished to see. His family continued to obsess over quirks and Endeavor's misguided purpose. It's a shame all this suffering and tragedy had to happen when all Touya wanted was to be acknowledged. But that's precisely why it was so hard to give him what he wanted--because they were mired in the same quirk-corrupted society that so many other characters in this story have been.

So yeah, this is meant to be the culmination of a paradigm shift not only within the Todoroki family but also as a potential reflection of society. Treating people as just quirks has harmed them in so many ways, and the true heroes are those seeking to acknowledge the humanity of those truly suffering for it all: the villains. Everyone in this society is guilty of falling into the "people are just their quirks" trap, and everyone has to do the hard work in order to change themselves and make things better. People are more than just their quirks.

And therein lies the inherent tragedy of Touya's "final" thoughts. He finally sees a glimmer of the thing he wanted: for his family (and society) to change. To be acknowledged as a person, for whom he is. And having been acknowledged, he is ready to continue that healing, to reunite with his now changed family. But even if he wants to, he can't. The entire family each own a piece of the responsibility for that.

Except for their hero Shouto, who is now there to save them.

So I do agree that in this chapter there is a reflection of the tragedy in how things got this bad, but the thing I get the most from this moment is that things have finally come together. The logical conclusion of the Todoroki family's arc has been reached. It is as satisfying in its culmination as it is complete in its tragedy and hubris. And it begs for a conclusion where everyone in danger gets the thing they now want: the chance to live long enough to reconcile as a family.

My Hero Academia: The Movie You’re Next & World Heroes’ Mission Review

I went to see MHA : You’re Next and just got out of the cinema. Today is the first day of its release where I live. I’ve been meaning to write a review of the most recent theatrical release (‘Movie’ from here on), World Heroes’ Mission for a while, so I guess I’ll combine them together here.

Before going into the review, I’d like to first outline the structure of a typical movie adaptation of major action Anime franchises (e.g. One Piece, Bleach, Naruto etc.) These adaptations follow similar patterns : there is an Incident, which is caused by Movie!Villains, and which somehow involves Movie!Allies. The main cast, usually the Lead Character, will team up with Movie!Allies to defeat Movie!Villains in order to restore peace. Usually, these adapted universes will not have an impact canon timeline, but can occur as a result of canonical events. It is important to note that the seiyuus behind Movie!Villains and Movie!Allies significantly influenced the plot, namely the nature of the Incident. It is also my personal theory that the production companies created the Movie around whichever seiyuus/celebrities were rising in their career at the moment, since they are the major factor in the success of its release.

For someone who prides myself in being a lover of adaptations, I will say this : all theatrical adaptations are boring because they are predictable. They obsessively follow this same structure without deviation. Any creativity was limited within these frames. I wish the production companies would come up with a new pattern already. The only entertaining factor then, for me, is how the plot evolves within these constraints.

Thus, I’ll analyse these 2 Movies based on the portrayals of the following elements : 1) Movie!Villains & Movie!Allies ; 2) the recurring cast and 3) the Incident.

Should I even put a spoiler alert tag? I mean, we all know how it ends. But well, for etiquette’s sake, here it is : SPOILERS BELOW.

Movie!Villains & Movie!Allies

WHM : 

Ally - Rody (CV : Yoshizawa Ryo. Yes, the actor), 

Villain - I forgot his name (CV : Nakai Kazuya. That’s Zoro and Hijikata-san for you.)

YN : 

Allies - Giulio (CV: Miyano Mamoru) & Anna (CV: Nukumi Meru. Who is this girl, I’ve never heard of her before?) 

Villain - Dark Might - (CV : Miyake Kenta, also the voice of All Might)

YN is a typical love story with a happy ending. I understand why they cast Mamo. When I first saw the announcement, I even went ‘Wow!… but why Mamo?’. Mamo gave his Tokiya-type performance, namely the cold yandere character. It’s not bad, of course. It’s just what you’d expect of Mamo. However, it didn’t really add any value either. Any newcomers could have done an equally good job (for the billing of fewer zeros as well, I’d assume). Maybe they cast Mamo only for promotional purposes? I don't think that's the case though, considering the popularity of the existing cast... The casting for the female Ally, however, was a very interesting choice. Apparently she’s a rising model and talent. I quite enjoyed her performance. She brought something fresh to the performance of household names. I did feel fed up with the damsel in distress plot though, and I wish she’d have more lines. Such a waste of potential. As for Dark Might, I kind of understand if what they were trying to do was make homage to Miyake Kenta. But wait, he wasn’t that senior in the Japanese show biz either… I don’t know, now.

WHM was probably one of my most favourite theatrical adaptations across franchises in recent years, mostly because of the casting of Yoshizawa Ryo. I’m a big Ryo fan, sue me. I think the casting choice was very interesting. One of rare celebrity casting in Movie history. And a very successful one at that, I’d say. Rody has remained one of the well-loved non-canon characters by fans even to this date, judging from fan engagements on Pixiv and other media. Bones really made the right move with this casting, honestly. Which was why I was a bit surprised when they went back to casting a big-name seiyuu like Mamo for WHM’s successor. They could have done better… Or maybe that was why they cast the model girl? Anyways… Rody’s character was very fun, and I think it fit Ryo’s acting. And when Rody’s quirk was revealed, I was like, now that’s awesome! More on this under ‘the Incident’.

Nakai-san’s casting was more likely an honorary role, I think. He didn’t degrade nor improve the villain character. I only recognized his voice upon my rewatch, though. Maybe I hadn't been paying enough attention? But I have to say, this Nakai villain was really hard to defeat. Or maybe because Izuku was up against him alone? When Dark Might was defeated by Izuku, Shoto and Bakugo, I was like, that’s it? Why was he so easy to defeat? Nakai-san took like hours to go down.

The recurring cast

I suppose there is no need to list them out here — we already know them.

So in both YN and WHM, the spotlight was mainly on Izuku, which was typical of Movie adaptations. I have to say that I enjoyed his interaction with Rody more than Giulio though. Maybe because of the road trip, which was very gay? I have to say I really enjoyed the Portuguese setting in WHM more than the Italian setting in YN, as well (also me: currently living in Paris). And I liked how they sequenced the battle cuts for Bakugo and Shoto in WHM. Their fights were very passionate, even if the big three didn’t manage to get to fight alongside one another. In YN, it was just Shoto mostly getting pulled around by Izuku’s Black Whip. Like, Shoto baby, what’s going on!? Get your shit together already! Just kidding. I love you my baby Shoto. Also, I like how Endeavour, being the No.1 hero, had stepped up and took the wheel in WHM. In YN he was mostly delegated to supporting All Might and the mission.

One thing has been bugging me: what happen to Be-san in these Movies!? Bones, what on earth is going on? Why didn’t you let Eraserhead say a line at least!? In WHM, even Present Mic (CV: Yoshino) managed to get 1 line in. Be-san didn’t appear in any of these Movies. Although Be-san is not my main, I’d really like to understand why.

The Incident

WHM : some guy (CV: Nakai Kazuya) decided to terrorize the world with science. Honestly I already forgot the plot.

YN : some Italian mafia guy who was obsessed with All Might decided to become him (‘Dark Might’) and terrorize the world.

To be honest, the Incidents are very insignificant. They’re interchangeable and just something that brings elements #1 and #2 together. The last Incident in recent theatrical adaptations that left an impression on me was One Piece Film Red. I really liked how they confronted Shank’s daughter to the recurring cast. However, the execution was mediocre. So as a theatrical release, OP Film Red was more or less on par with the rest of any Movie adaptations, that is, unmemorable. But I digress here.

In YN, there’s this girl Anna, who had Quirk-enhancement quirk. She was usually together with her butler Giulio, who got recruited because he had Quirk-suppression quirk. (Ah, a match made in heaven…) Somehow she got abducted by this random mafia guy who had Alchemy quirk, and who intended to use her as amplifier for him and his army. The mafia guy used her power and transformed himself into Dark Might. The Good Guys™ managed to rescue her eventually, thanks to the help of our recurring cast. In the end, Anna and Giulio both lost their quirks (I think?), but decided to stick together anyways.

Now, my only gripe about this is: they could have embellished several aspects of this Movie. For example, they could have made it an outright love story. Since it is a love story, after all. Giulio’s prosthetics were another thing they could have worked with more. I really liked the imagery of Giulio, who had lost so much, but who still dragged his semi-handicapped body to go after Anna. And Anna shouldn’t have been reduced to a typical damsel in distress waiting to be rescued either. Give her more agency, man! She really had cute design and promising voice actress. The assets were all there. 

Also, there was the question of the clash of ideologies. Our main three each managed to get a line in on this subject, but the film could have expanded on this further. That said, I found a lot of similarities between Dark Might and Movie!Villain in One Piece Film Gold (what’s his name again? Grand Tresoro?) Wait — I went and looked him up. Couldn’t believe that the voice of Gild Tesoro was Sakurai, what on earth… — their design, motivations, and goals were very similar. They even used gold coins as weapons. Giulio and Anna didn’t have anything to say about this ideological clash either. Did it not concern them, their living in Italy and not Japan? Theirs was a personal struggle, which had nothing really to do with the Incident, except Anna happening to possess the quirk that Dark Might needed.

As for WHM — a shameful waste of potential. Bones had created truly awesome Ally and Villain in Rody and Nakai-san. But the way they told the story kind of ruined it. Rody and Nakai-Villain were polar opposites, a mirror image of each other. The Villain — whose name I couldn’t be bothered to look up. I only remember that he had blue face — was born with a quirk that repelled everything around him. His quirk was also autonomous, meaning he couldn’t turn it off no matter what he tried… As a result, he couldn’t receive hugs and kind touches from his loved ones, among other things, which made him a bit psychotic. As such, he felt isolated from the rest of the world, and ended up wanting to dominate it. As his polar opposite, Rody was born with a quirk that he was understandbly ashamed of and a quite useless one at that… the bird Pino, which would always express his true emotions. Like the Villain’s, his was similarly autonomous. The nature of Rody’s quirk was revealed towards the end of the Movie, in a cut where Izuku reminisced and said something along the line of ‘Isn’t it amazing, your quirk being not being able to lie?’ Along with this revelation, the Villain’s origin story was also shown. Both the Ally and the Villain had quirks which they had no control over. It also raised the following question : would they rather not have quirks at all, than to have the quirks that they were born with? It was Izuku who broke through their walls and made them appreciate what they had, in one way or another. And the most meaningful thing was the fact that Izuku, the one who led them towards the answer, was quirkless to begin with. I called it a shameful waste of potential, because the studio could have confronted Rody against the Villain directly and highlighted these problematics. That said, Rody remained my favourite Moive!Ally of all times. Firstly, because of Ryo. But most importantly: in a world where most people are born with special abilities, capable of amazing things, you alone are not being able to lie and have to live with this fact. Isn't that beautiful?

WHM had so much potentials. It could have turned out better, more memorable, becoming a breakthrough even, if not for its structural contraints. However, Bones did what they could within these limitations, and still managed to deliver something captivating. After seeing YN, I’m quite relieved that it didn’t manage to top WHM (at least for me), but also disappointed, that the studio went back to their preconceived formula again. To conclude, YN was just your average shonen theatrical adaptation, no more, no less.
