Hi! I don't have a guide at the ready but I can show you how I do it ↓

I don't use WSOs. I assume they do make things quicker and less labor-intensive but I've spent too much time fixing up lumpy meshes and fat morphs to have a good opinion of WSOs (though of course I know you can always use a WSO and make changes manually afterwards, but evidently not everybody bothers). I assume the body type chooser and auto conversions that you mentioned have something to do with WSOs? I have no idea about that, sorry. I do everything manually and although it takes time, it's really simple.

Open Milkshape or your 3D software of choice (I assume you're familiar already).

Import a nude mesh of the body shape you want to convert to, with morphs.

(Let's use a full-body Melodie9 fat AF mesh as an example.)

I have all the nude meshes' GMDCs that I need in a folder, they're basically the meshes that I use either for swimwear & underwear in the case of full-body, or the ones I use for showerproof skins in the case of separates. I can't direct you to a nude mesh when it comes to Consort's fat male as I've never worked with it but I'd wager you know of some underwear or swimwear that's been made for it, you can use that.

3. Ctrl+A, ctrl+H to hide everything.

4. Import the mesh of the clothing you want to convert, without the morphs. It goes without saying that that mesh should be as perfect as can be (test it in game on a moving sim to make sure bone assignment is good all around, fix it before you start converting).

5. You can now start working on the normal morph. Unhide the normal morph of the mesh you're using as reference.

And get going, section by section.

You'll be using the Scale and Move tools a lot. If you're gender-converting, don't forget to merge the neck vertices properly (and merge normals).

Your first time will take a while if you do it well. The higher poly the mesh you're converting is, the harder it will be and the longer it will take. Save a lot along the way and make backups.

Exit and reopen to be able to see flat-shaded, it helps see flaws especially towards the end.

Look at the mesh with its textures on as well, there may be mapping tweaks to make.

6. When you're done with the normal morph, export it, put it in a mesh file, make the recolors, get in game and test it. Exit, get back in Milkshape, make the tweaks necessary, test again, until you're happy.

7. Make the morphs: duplicate your normal morph then adjust them in the same way you did with the normal morph, this time using the morphs of your reference mesh as, well, reference. Don't forget to fix the comments.

8. Test the mesh with morphs in game. Exit, back to Milkshape, fix what needs to be fixed, retest, until you're perfectly happy and you can take the best preview pictures for your downloaders 😌 (If you intend to share that is.)

And that's pretty much it. Hopefully you already know how to make a mesh file, how to make recolor files, how to properly categorize, compressorize, tooltip and BSOK files, all that good stuff that isn't strictly "converting to another body shape".

It's just the way I do things and may not be best for everyone but I hope it helps get you started at least. Good luck!

OKAY i have a load of handy dandy non shitty apps on my phone which i really like having so ima make a list: (these r for android btw most prolly arent on ios yet so uh. switch if u can at some point it is so much better over here trust) 1) FDROID - basically google play store but all apps are foss (afaik) and also stuff that goes against gplay tos (like yt to mp3 apps) but also just. normal apps lol theres links to the github repo on every app + it lists "antifeatures" (like dependent on external service (ie: website like yt or wikipedia so its not just on ur phone) n shit like that!! u can get most of the apps im mentioning here via fdroid and its risk free! u do need to install the fdroid apk which looks a little dodgy if u dont know what ur doing but yk w/e 2) novalauncher - no clue if this is on fdroid but its on the playstore so like. its fine this is a much more customisable launcher (like standard icon pack support if ur device dont got that, half grid, shit tons customisation) and i use it on litterally every android device i have bc its just so good and consisitent lmfao 3) icon pack studio - another play store one but this lets u make custom icon packs! basically u controll things like icon position, colour, shadow, scale, tile colour, shape, effects, etc! it doesnt work great for every app + u gotta re-exoport it whenever u install new apps BUT IT COVERS EVERYTHING i use it loads 4) genius - another playstore one its just handy u can set it to have a little notif u can click on to get the lyrics for a song if they have em + u can make little lyric cards which r super duper funky i love em 5) kustom widget - NAOTHER playstore one IM SORRY ILL STOP SOON I SWEAR but it lets u make custom widgets AND ITS SO CUSTOMISABLE its also really complex but like. its still easier than app dev so like. i used it to make a widget of my cat that opens the gallery when i click on it ^^ 6) RI MUSIC - THIS IS AN FDROID ONE - its basically yt music premium but with a different UI and free and much more customisable its soo sfadjfghasjdhgg its a fork of vimusic but it works better its so good it also supports yt playlists so if u use yt music SWITCH TO THIS] 7) wikipedia - its on fdroid and play store yall know what it is the app is great also does dark mode without having to dive into fifteen settings etc 8) i forgor the app name but its free spotify premium its 10/10 no notes (when i say free premium i mean permenant but its just ad free and actual control over the songs so no downloads or anything sadly :( 9) spotiflyer!! - it was on fdroid but its been changed to an extention of smthn it was great when it was an app havent looked into the extention ver yet- if u have a pc use zotify instead its a cli but its much faster and more reliable (change the output folder + file name to just be the track number to avoid it skipping songs w funky chars in it u can use mp3tag to fix the names it gets the metadata also dont forget to download as mp3 or its big) basically spotiflyer and zotify r spotify to mp3 but spotiflyer also does other platofrms like yt music n shit spotiflyer broke now but i was its number one stan lmao

I've had pain in my legs(constantly there- is that considered chronic?) My whole life (long as I can remember, maybe since I was 7? Somewhere around there)

and in recent years it's gotten worse and it's never been a problem because I grew up with it, I thought it was normal(maybe when I was younger it was on and off?) And I feel myself deteriorating but like how much pain is too much pain?

It's been there for so long I can't tell. How does the pain scale even work? I feel like mine works on an entirely different system and I don't know how bad my pain actually is and I realize that the healthy Normal thing to feel is 0 pain and able bodied people don't daydream about how much easier it would be if I could just use a wheelchair??

I can't tell how bad I'm feeling because it's been my normal my whole life and now it's becoming a problem and I just don't know. Ive done the tests, gone to the doctors and specialists and whatever other procedures I have AND LIKE WHAT IF I JUST HAVE LOW PAIN TOLERANCE?? And I can't afford more doctors and tests and I just don't have answers or accomodations and it's so bad sometimes but sometimes its ok??? But it really isn't ok I'm just used to walking and moving with the pain

Oh lord anon, your legs hurting your entire life is pain enough and definitely counts as chronic pain. Afaik, most medical standards say chronic pain is any pain that persists for 3 months or more. It can be constant or vary, and it can be anywhere from uncomfortable to agonizing. What you're experiencing is way beyond the minimum.

Before I had chronic pain, my average daily pain levels were zero. Now, I have some sort of pain every day. Some days, it hurts but I can ignore it. Other days, I'm in so much pain I feel like I need to go to the ER. But most days, its enough pain for it to linger in my mind, limit my activities, and drain my energy. And that average pain used to be severe pain for me - as my condition gets worse, what is common feels normal.

I shared my experience because I think you'll resonate, and I hope it'll help shed some doubt. You definitely need accomodations and treatment. You shouldn't have to live this way, and I truly hope you find doctors who will listen and help you. And other people in chronic pain are here to support you. You're not alone - if you needed to hear that.

That's part of it, but I think there's another aspect. There's no small number of people who object to characters being given Watsonian explanations -- the comic-book version of Starfire is a regular focus of complaint for a variety of reasons, and the comic book lore behind the species of sexually-open exhibitionists is something that strengthens the discomfort. Same for people arguing at length that the stripperific costumes are self-empowering and something the character enjoys in-setting.

By contrast, and speaking of draconic autofellatio:

(Mis'alia, from Feretta's excellent A Tale of Tails, cw: mostly f/f, some m/f and a tiny amount of m/m. Woefully out-of-character: afaik, this is the only picture she has wearing pants. A different character demonstrates autofellatio in the comic, but getting too much detail on that risks spoilers.)

You know, and I know, and Feretta knows, that this character exists and looks like that and has those interests because the comic is for porn with plot. It's far better-written than most conventional superhero comics, and both Mis'alia and most other characters have more emotional connection, eventually.

But ultimately, their excuses are not that far from comic Starfire's: they have a superpower (absorbing solar energy through their skin and controlling an extradimensional energy with their scales/fur), and their cultures are just coincidentally based around a lot of behaviors that we find sexy (or just sex). And they are both excuses; Feretta does a better job with world-building than DC, but neither started with a universe and then was surprised by the lady-heavy orgies.

It's very hard to say that A Tale of Tails is less sexualized or less pornovision than a DC comic, without defining those terms to merely be Things We Don't like.

The bigger difference is that you know what you were getting into. Tail of Tales starts its first lesbian sex scene on page 5; the story revealed that in its setting sometimes women have cocks on page 7. Even place the comic's been hosted has either account-based or interstitial 'this is porn' markers. There's a fair argument that this undermines both the story and even that particular sex scene, and I'd agree with it -- it's definitely much weaker than later scenes -- but it makes absolutely sure you know what you've signed up for, and then you've got literally hundreds of pages to enjoy or not, as the case may be.

By contrast, most superhero comics (with a few exceptions like the Foglio's early works) aren't selling that. You're often much of the way through a trade paperback before a character turns to particularly implausible poses while undressing or undressed; none of these things advertise themselves as particularly unimpressive cheesecake. It's that break from expectations, and what it says the authors and artists predict their viewers want, that turns it far more obnoxious.

Every so often (okay, mostly when I'm reading a r/hobbydrama post) I open a page of some mainstream superhero comic with a female protagonist, and do genuinely have a moment where I look at the costume and character design and wonder if I somehow accidentally opened a porn parody instead.

• shinichi's most obvious, surface-level flaws are his stubbornness and, ironically, his own moral code (which can often lean into gray morality, but is no less relentless than if it were more black and white). they're both big driving forces behind his tendency to jump headfirst into danger, in spite of his analytical skills. combined with his formidable wit, he ends up a sharp character without a lot of wiggle room to volunteer compassion, but that amount is not zero.

• .........idk, how to say this.  shinichi suffers from shonen main character syndrome in that the show likes to flaunt his main character appeal and little else.  a lot of him is hidden beneath that and if you want it you have to WORK for it. for example - the show tends to play vulnerability for laughs-- not all the time, but a lot.  like what reason would shinichi have to be so pointed and overachieving in everything he does.  on the surface, the show tells you oh, well, he’s a bit cocky.  which... yes, but there’s probably ulterior motives to that, buried beneath layers and layers of bullshit that he himself probably doesn’t recognize: perhaps a staunch refusal to be caught in a position where he can be trampled (maybe after spending many childhood years watching ran go through it?), perhaps to claim some semblance of control over his life-- and by extension, to eke out of the shadow of his parents' legacy?  to predict every possible angle, every possible outcome, to protect any and every place he could possibly be wounded, so that someone like his father can't exploit it under the guise of some fucked test of character?

wasted potential / i like them enough to project my own issues onto them / nothing i like about them is technically canon

• i have my fair share of identity issues. a lot of them have to do with passion and purpose. cone/shinichi is nothing BUT an identity crisis and his need to suppress his real identity in all facets-- smarts, emotions, personality quirks-- only causes additional issues to surface as he continues to pretend being something/someone he isn't. does this even count if he's already canonically a Huge Mess??

• as is my usual spiel surrounding shinichi/conan he has all the ingredients for a fully-fleshed, canonical identity THING but it's never taken as seriously as one would reasonably expect (in the same way kogoro's alcoholism is often played for laughs). who wouldn't consider that massive, wasted potential. on a more macroscopic scale, the damage he causes vis-a-vis this implied identity crisis is also never coaxed out from under the rug and is either dismissed or swept back under it.

• in fact, this show is SO guilty of keeping things surface-level that tbh I think it relies on reading between the lines to keep its fandom space ablaze, at least to some degree. this show takes so much that would ordinarily be considered cause for concern and spins it into a joke or something far less consequential. shinichi's internal identity crisis is entirely implied afaik and i just take that and run with it (looking at you, desperate revival). incidentally this implied conflict is probably what i like most about him, with his dorkiness a close second.

(being emotional =/= weakness???? wow that’s an assessment a girl like ran doesn’t need to hear holy shit) 

• even worse, this boy tends to be witness #1 to the direct fallout (not just from ran but from everyone), he's GOTTA be more than aware of the consequences of what he's doing (and...tbf i think he is, at least when the show wants to milk that for something)

• in that regard, he may be horrible, but not irredeemable; he's nearly given up at least twice because the emotional burden was too much, but my brother in christ....... you started the lie:

• for the most part i feel that shinichi is enhanced when he interacts with someone else.  as the protagonist he can already carry himself but i always seem to enjoy him exponentially more when he gets to butt heads, be challenged, or cooperate with someone else as one half of a duo (and specifically a duo, bc with larger groups the focus dissipates. like with the detective boys he tends to vibe more as group dad/big brother/a chaperone):

○ haibara: someone who relates to his existential dilemma. she's a moral challenge for him as someone whom he would've--and almost did--without a doubt condemn to super hell at first sight.  how would pre-moonlight sonata shin have reacted to her?  her history is behind her, but can he forgive that, even if she knows she's completely renounced the old ways?  her time at the BO/her status as creator of APTX is a stain that can't be washed off the record just as a matter of fact, it's up to her found family to scrub it on a social level and sometimes i wonder if shinichi is up to it, even after the slight revisions to his moral code.  the BO in general has a strange way of bringing out some rarely-seen behavior in him, so i do wonder... when it comes down to it... yeah this isn’t how murderer!shinichi was birthed at all

○ heiji: someone who shares his passion for detective work and treats him as an equal.  i could argue this is because he sees right past the veil of conan, but... i don’t really think that’s entirely true.  he seemed to respect conan even before the truth was confirmed.  imo heiji’s a challenge of companionship for him, being one of the few he can be freely open with-- and thus vulnerable-- at all times.  when he’s alone, or around most others, shinichi is forced to wall himself off to avoid signaling the likenesses to himself, so i think being close with someone he can trust with the full truth is like opening a faucet and trying to temper the flow when you’re not sure if too much or too little has come out.  is that even a coherent metaphor t.t 

○ kaito: someone who challenges his wit enough to make him a tantilizing/worthy opponent.  heiji was this once, until he assumed the companion role.  kaito is also something of a challenge to his worldview, there’s probably some overlap there with haibara regarding his moral code (are there any other criminals he’d willingly cooperate with, or even be so sure of their principles that he’d -mostly- trust them around people in general? i mean it’s not like shinichi really has a choice when he he gets to a point when he has to partner up with kaito but... you know what i mean, he’d probably give up his life before partnering up with other criminals).  what he provides shinichi that haibara can’t though is a test of passion, and... maybe by extension, self-restraint, in relation to that passion and defiance of private morality.

well, i am not immune from conan/shinichi fever nor do i claim to be even in the slightest.  the show is named after him for a reason and clearly he must have some power over me if i fell in love with his character twice, with 15ish years between each instance.  even so, i think he’s weirdly underutilized-- or at least i think his full potential is underutilized.  for a protag of a show running for 25 years there’s a surprising lack of exploration of anything beyond surface-level, whether that’s his character on its own merits or in relation with someone else.

it’s a shame, but luckily the character is popular enough that discussion is not difficult to find among fandom spaces, mine included.

Truthfully can't remember ever not being sick. Afaik I've been "sickly" since birth; this meaning I'd get sick a couple weeks right after getting "better" of the same thing, having multiple illnesses afflicting my body, being sick for months at a time, etc.

Literally just last year I was (and still am) continuously "sick" to the point of barely functioning for over 7 months. I was only "functioning" because I completely disregarded both my mental health and the toll it'd have on my body just so I don't "fall behind" on life lol. I wouldn't even know I actually got COVID if it wasn't for my family all getting sick too due to how the life altering symptoms are so similar to what I'd experience in a mildly bad day.

A couple months (?) ago I saw that post about the "pain index" for hospitals. I actually knew about it beforehand? But what i learnt sorta put it in perspective. It's like a 1-10 scale for when you go to ER (emergency room) and have to describe you pain to the doctors. Can't remember exactly how it went but it was something like "barely ever exist, not aware of it most of the time/doesn't affect" to "can't move bc of it can't think of anything else". The same post went on a tangent about how abled/not chronically ill people have a base index of 0. Which means that, in a un-injured, resting state, the pain they constantly experience is 0. 0. No pain inflicted as a secondary reaction to existing. It hit me somewhat hard, bc at first i thought "yeah that's normal", but quickly i realized it was not my personal experience: the fact that I can ("can") regularly function (i.e. force myself to) doesn't mean I don't experience it. At this point people just don't believe be bc I "can't possibly be in pain/going thru something all the time"

I don't remember ever not being in pain. I've had to, since the very first moment of my existence, make several extra efforts to function quasi-effectively in the same way others do on a regular basis. When normal people experience the symptoms I'd have in a good day, they'd usually call in sick: stop momentarily their busy lives to recover (and with good reason) not only due to how taxing it's for the body, but also because of how hard it is to simply function as a normal person under said conditions.

I know the "world isn't fair" and all that kinda stuff we're always told, but why do I have to perform up to a regular standard when I gotta start in such a disadvantaged position?

The most realistic outcome I could get out seeking a diagnosis would be debt because I'm also fucking poor a "minor" bothersome issue (ex. gastritis) and a "keep pushing" lol. The next best thing would be a "chronically ill but Fit to Work".

I've had to force myself, since the very beginning, to function minimally like the others, overstressing my mind, over abusing my already pained body. I'll never be "allowed" to perform on even terrain, but i am permanently expected to get not only similar, but excelling results so I can "prove" I'm still "worth it" because of all the same shit that makes it all so difficult.

Not only i want a fucking rest, but the permanent option of taking one whenever I fucking need it

Rebelle 7

Why to use it: It is a traditional painting emulator software with a lot of capabilities that mirror photoshop and some unique features as well.

Pros: This is my absolute top recommendation with the ability to use realistic watercolors, paper textures, paint mixing, metal textures, state of the art blending, phsyics simulation etc. and every aspect of each brush is customizable including the pressure curves. Has your basic digital capabilities as well. Has most things photoshop has and some great ruler and stencil tools as well. Has liquefy tools photoshop doesn't have. Amazing perspective tools.

Cons: The Pro version costs $150 at full price and the regular version is $90. However, they often go on sale around holidays or deep discount on Cyber Monday. Vectors have to be imported and brush size only goes up to about half what you would want for a large file.

Sketchable

Why to use it: I'll call it a basic digital drawing program. It does have some more sophisticated settings hidden in it. It allows you to create "books" of drawings and flip between them.

Pros: Immersive if you want to feel like you just sat down with a sketchbook.

Cons: Weird interface feels unsuited to professional digital work. It's like it's trying to be a traditional artwork simulator without any of the features of a simulator. Also the weird pixel smoothing thing where the canvas just gets blurry when you zoom in instead of being pixellated feels like a con to me although I realize it's part of the immersion. Costs $20 although there's apparently a free version now.

Clip Studio Paint

Why to use it: Digital Painting program specialized in anime and manga/comic creation apparently.

Pros and cons: I don't know much about it myself I'll admit because I haven't used it, but it costs $50.

Procreate

Why to use it: Digital painting software designed for stylus.

Pros: has a lot of users and hence a lot of brushes, comparable even to photoshop in brush offerings or so I hear.

Cons: Only for iOS.

Paint Tool SAi

Why to use it: Free painting and blending software.

Pros and cons: Free but doesn't have marquee tools or vector shapes according to @vio1315, ask her.

Affinity Suite

Why to use it: Closest competitor to Adobe. Affinity Photo is the one that's supposed to be comparable to photoshop, although I haven't used it. It's for photo editing.

Pros: In my experience Affinity products are absolutely comparable in functionality to Adobe in every way.

Cons: Costs $35 per app. But that's like the montly CC subscription and this is a one time purchase. As far as I know Affinity Photo is more focused on the photography aspects than the painting aspects.

Photopea

Why to use it: Like photoshop, but online and free.

Pros: Online and free.

Cons: slow because it runs in the browser and the paint brush is awful to use because it runs in the browser.

Gimp

i’ve said in a couple of places talking about maternal instincts that leafpool doesn’t have any for her litter, and squirrelflight does, and that’s why the ruse works.

and then i went and wrote an essay about it where i was like “so queens feel this towards adopted litters and here are some queens who DIDN’T have the response” and then i thought about this for half a second and went “wait hold on i’ve caused a problem”

indeed i have.

uh. the solution is. so okay. squilf’s reaction towards her litter is requisite to being her litter, but it’s not enough to prove she gave birth to the litter. and functionally, as long as brambleclaw and squilf accept them, it doesn’t matter where they came from. at least, not in theory.

leafpool, on the hand, has rejected her litter. on the purely maternal instincts side, mind. she still loves them, she just doesn’t feel like they’re her kits. if squirrelflight wasn’t there when she was kitting, they may have died. but that didn’t happen so we don’t have to think about it.

but i digress. if leafpool were a normal queen, and she rejected her litter as such, the clan would have a few responses. they might give the litter to a different nursing queen, and strongly discourage leafpool from having any more litters. or, if leafpool didn’t react violently, and there wasn’t a suitable foster queen, she might keep them.

the instincts fade after about half a moon anyway, so it’s not critical to raising the kits. however, it’s very suspicious, and many will feel a queen who doesn’t feel the correct instincts will never fully love her kit.

i mentioned that bluefur doesn’t have the queen drive for her kits (i haven’t decided on a name so i’m just going to keep saying different things until something feels right), and were the truth to have come out about what happened, her lack of the drive would have been what was blamed.

it’s a little more complex than that, admittedly, but i’m smoothing over a very complicated situation where bluefur’s lack of instincts actually saved her kits.

ultimately, without any queen protective instincts, leafpool still could have been a good mother to her kits. we, the audience, know this, and a good deal of cats know this too. however, leafpool was a little bit beyond just having no instincts, because she just straight up rejected them.

basically there’s kind of a scale:

overprotective, smothering. may kill kits if in an unsafe environment. there’s not a canon example AFAIK. it doesn’t happen very often in a clan.

overprotective, smothering, but not dangerous. harm may happen inadvertently due to an inability to judge risks. this is squirrelflight in the “ashes” au, when she refuses to return to the clan because she’s more afraid of brambleclaw than the cold.

overprotective, smothering, but not dangerously blinded. speckletail and snowkit.

overprotective, smothering, but to a normal degree. canon nightcloud and breezekit.

protective, the normal amount after kitting. brightheart in cloudtail’s daughter and jaywing.

neutral, lacking instincts, but still recognizes as kin. bluefur in canon.

neutral, lacking instincts, no immediate connection, but no hostility. paleflower, kind of? this is for a different reason, but it is the right response.

neutral, lacking instincts, can’t form connection. leafpool.

hostile, but not entirely harmful. rejects kits, has no interest, unlikely to be kind, but will not cause harm. rainflower.

hostile, actively harmful. i have an example of this but it would be spoiling a project i’m working on so you’ll have to imagine.

for clan cats, 3 to 7 is fine for raising. 2 and 8 might be okay, depending, but 1 and 9-10 are definitely harmful. 1 is a complicated situation to handle, in 10, the kits safety is prioritized. queens at 2 are usually going to be talked down by an older queen, and their whims are going to be honored to the best of the clan’s abilities and the kit’s safety.

in a 1, the clan is going to respond to protect the kits, but that can be really hard. they’ll save the kits over the mother if it comes to that, but this is a temporary condition, and no one wants that.

so with leafpool at an 8 with her kits, she could have raised them, but she never felt like their mother.

anyway, because leafpool doesn’t have any instincts and she’s their medicine cat and squirrelflight does and depending on the au the timing would be somewhat off for leafpool, everything works.

I do like the few subtle hints we do get just from the scenes (like the left hand/right hand thing and the cube communication) but I feel like I'm missing some connecting pieces here, even with knowing Smee was there and supporting him. It’s weird because I feel like the left-hand thing was really nicely done and digestible and the fork thing is presumably checking out how many cameras there are (even if still a little obvious) - but the explosion? Maybe I’m just stupid haha- it had to be Smee helping, right? I just would have liked more hints (but maybe I’m too small brain rn).

I'm a little confused because Peter said "the era of James as the gatekeeper has ended" (paraphrased), so he’s the gatekeeper right? And Norman was so concerned about the gatekeeper last episode, to the point that I felt like it was a point largely against the "using the gate in GF" plan (aside from uncertainty about the gates and the human world, of course) - but it's literally just a human then? I thought it was gonna be some epic demon or magic concept or something, but it's just that dude pff- whats the dude gonna do against the murder squad? :D Ig he has the farm/demon forces behind him but those would exist either way (and Norman must have considered that), so why is he in particular such a big deal/threat? Is he that ultra big brain? Not big brain enough to have prevented Norman’s escape anyway.

Or maybe he’s just 6 moves ahead and waiting for Norman to lead him back to the hideout that was referenced a few episodes ago where Norman brings all the stolen kids -- but I feel like that’s such a... roundabout way of capturing the GF kids. Plus, that should be Isabella’s doing, if anything. So yeah. Confused about that a bit.

I love the parallel how in ep1 Ray running from the pursuers and Emma collapsing was the whole thing about like, not taking it all upon yourself -- and now Emma (who mirrored Ray’s exact run through the forest) got help with Ray jumping in and also later Sonju, conveniently timed as usual haha.

(negativity) It’s a nice parallel, though i would have preferred if Ray had run again and Emma had gotten the shot - it’d still carry around the same message (”then vs now”) but please I beg you give Emma one (1) cool bow shot  - or I’ll steal your animation and do it myself >:”(

The animation was so pretty. I loved Norman on the cliff and the wind animation, and the MUSIC when the town raid happened and how everything was framed and the goddamn MUSIC???? DID I MENTION THE MUSIC.

Also Norman’s expression and that shot where he realizes Vyrk has the blood condition and sweeps in for a stab.

It was pretty brutal and I appreciate that they showed it. It’s just... really pretty overall and- yes. thank you. love goes out to the staff. god knows they need some. and money. please give them more money.

I also like how with how the episode set up the whole, "are you god?" - "I'll be a god or devil" thing, and then when Vyrk asks "are you a human?", my friend joked he'd answer "no, i'm god" and then we joked a bit about his silence. But in hindsight, I really appreciate those jokes, because it made me realize: for a different kind of character, that WOULD have been the perfect setup to have a badass response but that silence was probably on purpose and I can’t really explain it but I just like how that makes the through-line in the episode even stronger and also kind of connects with his wavering?? I can’t explain but I LIKE IT.

(slightly negative) It's a little bit funny that the parallel didn't occur to him until it was thrown in his face, but I think that's what dissociation and just being observed in one's plan does.

Plus I do get what they're going for, and it was pretty dang emotional. A little on the nose maybe but- yee.

It works well as an eye opener to tear down the mental wall between the two groups. He's also never really been in contact with demons equally before afaik so, I shall accept it. Not that currently killing them all makes him equal in power dynamic right now, but I mean like, in a way where he truly, in real life, got to see that they’re similar -- he made comparisons to humans last episode, so clearly he wasn’t completely unaware. He’s smart, he knew what he was doing would make him seem like a devil to the demons. He probably just numbed himself to it until something that could break those walls down happened, ie the Emma thing.

I feel like it could have worked too if her name wasn’t Emma, but he probably wouldn’t have paused for as long and the voiced lines couldn’t have been given the time needed to make them hit as strongly - but I do think just a line that sounds really similar to what they talked about in GF could have been enough too - but again, that would have potentially taken too long down the exchange between the two.

It also doesn’t seem completely random since the old guy also reacted to Emma’s name before and everything so. Overall, I’m willing to suspend my disbelief - even if it IS funny that the family naming went from Vyrk to... Emma :D (though demons do get old so I suppose that makes sense haha)

I also wonder how this will impact Norman going forward. Even if he decides for the GF plan now (likely, we don’t have much time), he still did that and even if they return all the degenerated demons with Mujika’s, Sonju’s and Vyrk’s help... I doubt those who were already eaten and killed, can be saved. So that blood is on his hands forever now, likely hurting even more now that he feels personally impacted by it and not just... knows he’s doing something bad.

The anime definitely doesn’t have the time to delve into that sadly but that’s,,, very good angst.

I also don’t know if I mentioned this in my last episode thoughts or not, but I do still believe the gate stuff could have been revealed more incrementally? Like have James include that tidbit of info, please. If we know gates exist, then at least now it isn’t such an extreme change of information to know: “there are gates. yes where you were sent WAS a gate, but they’ve been destroyed. oh and another gate is in GF!” like HOLD UP-

I wonder if we’ll ever see the hideout that Cislo or Vincent referenced... I’m sure that’d be lots of random children designs so probably not but,, I am really curious how and if they’ll take all those kids. Norman did say he wants freedom for all cattle children. but with no large scale plan anymore, I’m not sure if that’s gonna work. If any human stays behind, as I’ve often talked about before, the cycle just starts anew and I’m really curious if TPN will go for a morally grey ending like that.

Unless the whole “evil-blood” religion works out this time when the high class is gone. but even Sonju is already in part a counter-example so... we’ll see I suppose.

Fused! Ben exploration and AU with the hypothetical max potential

This'll be paired with my Reformed! Elena posts here for the future bit and the ramifications for Ken Tennyson. Various people have done pieces of fan art where Ben fuses with the watch of which afaik @promsien is far in the lead of content wise. You can find one such piece by a diffrent artist below this post actually (along with a Anodite! Ben which I'll likewise explore in a post pondering what a Gwen 10 au would be like content wise).

Being fused with the watch would have massive implications. Not only in the obvious bits (having a better version of Master Control/Ultimate Ben by being able to use an arbitrary number of alien powers at once without fully having to transform*, at least universal durability in all forms considering the Omnitrix has withstood universal destruction without a scratch, regeneration sufficient enough to lol at being aged to dust, being able to make tech ex nihlo like Goop's anti grav disk) but also more passive benefits.

For one thing no one can steal the Omnitrix from him since at this point it's basically decorative than functional. For another he by all rights should also have not only a better version of the failsafe since the watch's various protections while in alien form (loling at soul manipulation, transmutation, genetic manipulation, mind control, planetary telepathy, massively faster than light/basically instant reaction times due to out reacting a point blank Big Bang etc) should be active 24/7, but in my opinion the AI in the watch would likely be unchained as well.

What do I mean by that? I mean the AI would be far more active than canon and more lively too**. I can totally see it making a Heads Up Display for Ben that utilizes the Galvan's database of knowledge/it's connection to Plumber databanks and the Extranet to passively analyze environmental/enemy data to further help Ben in his heroics. He runs into magic/tech he's never seen? It'd automatically search said places and extrapolate from said knowledge for a plan on how to proceed.

For another benefit Ben would no longer need to eat/sleep/drink, being sustained and powered by the Omni energy of the watch. Which leads me to my final point of what Fused Ben would lead to in at least a year if not a significantly shorter time period.

Ben being able to Hero 24/7 without consequences would jump at the chance to do so. He already does multiple all nighters in a row and as Omniverse shows goes WEEKS without a break. Seeing as he's perfectly willing to kill himself to save a few more lives, he'll certainly be gung ho about saving lives when Hero Time doesn't stop. Which would lead him to being known as the Hero of Heroes faaaaaaaaar earlier.

* Powers I see Ben having on permanently include Nanomech's hyper adaptability/bioshocks/shrinking, Grey Matter's super intelligence, Terraspin's magic immunity, Ghostfreak's mana absorption immunity/possession/intangability/invisibility/soul manipulation, Bigchill's high resistance to extreme temperatures and space survivability, NRG's ability to grow more powerful the more energy it eats, Chromastone's flight, Jetray's ability to go into hyperspace, Diamondhead's durability, Feedback's energy absorption, XLR8's ground speed, the Pugnavore sample's galactic scale telepathy and trans dimensional teleportation, Clockwork's time manipulation, Gravvattack's gravity manipulation, Lodestar's magnetism/regeneration, Echo Echo's cloning and the Lenopan's shapeshifting. There might be a few I'm missing but that's mostly a complete package for most any situation.

What it means for Ken and Reformed! Elena

Naturally any kid made from a living DNA database*** would be quite unusual especially when said kid has a mother who is a living von neumann hiveminded nanoswarm. Not only would Ken need help in making something he'll have no real reference for (being born without a inhibition due to his nanites granting his every desire as I've discussed before) but he'll also have quite literally a universal body of knowledge on tap with his own version of the Omnitrix's original AI (which would likewise be raised with him and act as a quasi sibling/mindscape bound playmate).

Being able to call upon a million plus samples of alien DNA would allow his nanites to gain immunities to most anything basically as soon as he's old enough/smart enough to shift willingly. He'd also basically always have on tap Elena's godmode since he can always tap into the Galvanic Mechamorph sample and would quickly have active the same suit of powers his father has.

Elena meanwhile will be able to hero and largely even keep up with her husband stats wise since both of them have limitless stamina and don't need to eat/sleep/drink. Given both of their capabilities to be in multiple places at once they can both Hero on a universal scale and have all the time in the world to raise their children/relax.

*** which is the exact reason why having Eunice be Ken's mother in a non fused Ben timeline would be fascinating especially since it'd include her Dr. Dolittle tendancy of pacifying animals/getting them to protect her

It’s like arena (BST + skills cost) except blessings don’t give extra points. A mythic is worth a +10 (depending on the season) and it gets extra points with every merge. afaik, only the units in the top row count for score calc, a bit like in AB where the paired-up unit doesn’t count

I have a much longer post right before this one, explaining the changes I saw in score as I made small adjustments.  On the surface, what you described is true, but...wow it’s weird.

A +0 Mythic granted +10 merges from the blessing scores no better than a generic +10 unit.  Which is kinda nice for those not invested in pulling exclusively for Mythics.

BST might matter, but not that severely.  Same with skill costs.  I swapped my +9 Idunn, with all her high scoring skills, with Gray, who is +0 and has his base equipment only.  Score went down only 6 points.

Back row units do account for score.  I don’t know if they count as significantly as front-line units, but they matter.  Idunn was on the back row; we still saw reduction.

With two Light Mythics at +0, and one Dark Mythic at +7, I got a score of 742 in Light/Dark season, but 746 in Dark/Light season.  Despite Light/Dark being worth +25 merge value and Dark/Light being worth only +20, Dark/Light gave a higher score, because breaking the merge limit with bonuses counts for a much higher score.

Skill cost actually doesn’t seem to matter at all in specific circumstances.  Yune, my +7 Dark Mythic, could have all her skills removed, and the Light/Dark, and any season with Anima and Astra, stayed exactly the same.  Only the Dark/Light season saw a reduction, by 6 points, for everything being removed.  However, Eirika, a general +10 unit, lost every season 2 points when I unequipped just her weapon.  Skill cost seems more important for non-Mythics, but Mythics participating in an off-season don’t seem to need to worry about skills they use at all.

To name the big ones.  It’s really weird when you dig into it.  The good news is, unless you have Mythics who are merged at all, your score is no better than someone who just uses general +10 units for all eight slots.  The bad news is, because the score scales more sharply for breaking the merge cap, this is fucking Whale Central.

OKAY i have a load of handy dandy non shitty apps on my phone which i really like having so ima make a list: (these r for android btw most prolly arent on ios yet so uh. switch if u can at some point it is so much better over here trust) 1) FDROID - basically google play store but all apps are foss (afaik) and also stuff that goes against gplay tos (like yt to mp3 apps) but also just. normal apps lol theres links to the github repo on every app + it lists "antifeatures" (like dependent on external service (ie: website like yt or wikipedia so its not just on ur phone) n shit like that!! u can get most of the apps im mentioning here via fdroid and its risk free! u do need to install the fdroid apk which looks a little dodgy if u dont know what ur doing but yk w/e 2) novalauncher - no clue if this is on fdroid but its on the playstore so like. its fine this is a much more customisable launcher (like standard icon pack support if ur device dont got that, half grid, shit tons customisation) and i use it on litterally every android device i have bc its just so good and consisitent lmfao 3) icon pack studio - another play store one but this lets u make custom icon packs! basically u controll things like icon position, colour, shadow, scale, tile colour, shape, effects, etc! it doesnt work great for every app + u gotta re-exoport it whenever u install new apps BUT IT COVERS EVERYTHING i use it loads 4) genius - another playstore one its just handy u can set it to have a little notif u can click on to get the lyrics for a song if they have em + u can make little lyric cards which r super duper funky i love em 5) kustom widget - NAOTHER playstore one IM SORRY ILL STOP SOON I SWEAR but it lets u make custom widgets AND ITS SO CUSTOMISABLE its also really complex but like. its still easier than app dev so like. i used it to make a widget of my cat that opens the gallery when i click on it ^^ 6) RI MUSIC - THIS IS AN FDROID ONE - its basically yt music premium but with a different UI and free and much more customisable its soo sfadjfghasjdhgg its a fork of vimusic but it works better its so good it also supports yt playlists so if u use yt music SWITCH TO THIS] 7) wikipedia - its on fdroid and play store yall know what it is the app is great also does dark mode without having to dive into fifteen settings etc 8) i forgor the app name but its free spotify premium its 10/10 no notes (when i say free premium i mean permenant but its just ad free and actual control over the songs so no downloads or anything sadly :( 9) spotiflyer!! - it was on fdroid but its been changed to an extention of smthn it was great when it was an app havent looked into the extention ver yet- if u have a pc use zotify instead its a cli but its much faster and more reliable (change the output folder + file name to just be the track number to avoid it skipping songs w funky chars in it u can use mp3tag to fix the names it gets the metadata also dont forget to download as mp3 or its big) basically spotiflyer and zotify r spotify to mp3 but spotiflyer also does other platofrms like yt music n shit spotiflyer broke now but i was its number one stan lmao

European-Style Bread (AKA Not Toast)

This is a recipe for baking your own bread. Note, this will not give you “toast” bread, but a proper loaf of bread - which is why I call it European-style, as AFAIK most US-Americans think of toast when they hear the word bread. This ain’t that! It’s better. :D Baking bread can seem intimidating, but it’s actually very straightforward. It’s about 15min of work in total and 3h of waiting. There are actually only three steps (mix, rest, bake) but I detailed them as much as possible below, because I prefer very detailed recipes with clear instructions.

Ingredients: - 660g flour or about 23,3oz. (I use white flour specifically for bread, which is cheap where I live; you could try with other kinds, it should work fine, but I can’t vouch for it) - 12g or about 0,42oz. salt - 8g or about 0,28oz. dry yeast (or one of the small packages, depending on what you buy) - 35g or about 1,23oz. oil (I use olive oil, other kinds can work too) + additional oil for your baking form - 350g or about 12.34oz. warm water (not hot, warm; the yeast likes warmth)

Tools: - a bowl large enough for mixing in - a scale for weighing - cloth for draping - a kneading device if you can’t knead it manually (optional) - an oven - a baking form - a knife (optional)

Instructions: 1. Measure ingredients in the bowl, dry first, wet last.

2. Mix well with your hands or your kneading device (I have never tried this but in theory it should work; DO NOT USE A BLENDER! The dough will not mix in that! It’s way too sticky and heavy). You don’t even need to put a lot of strength into it; just keep mixing the dough for ten minutes and it should be fine. Don’t pull it apart while mixing, but rather squish it together and roll it over; you want it to be a dense mass. After about three to five minutes you should have one solid lump of dough, and after ten minutes it should be smooth. If it’s silky smooth and does not stick to your hands anymore, you are done. Note, do not put flour on your hands before mixing, and do not mix it on a floured surface; this adds more flour to the mix and makes it too dry. Just mix it in the bowl you measured the ingredients in.

3. Rest the dough in the bowl for an hour in a warm location (e.g. on top of or nearby your heater), covered with a cloth. Make sure it is warm but not too hot; the yeast can’t stand too much heat. During this hour the dough should about double in size.

4. Knead again after the time is up to get rid of the air bubbles inside the dough. Just a minute or two will be enough, you only want to get it back down to its original size.

5. Prepare the baking form by oiling the inside so the bread won’t stick to it while baking, then transfer the loaf into the baking form. Make sure there are no air bubbles left inside by squishing down on it a bit.

6. Rest again for another hour in a warm location, again covered with a cloth. It should once more double in size.

7. Preheat the oven to 170°C (about 340°F) if using circulatory air and 180°C (about 355°F) if using upper and lower heat at least 10 minutes before the resting time is up.

8. (Optional) Slash the top of the bread diagonally or along its length, about 1cm or half an inch deep just before you put it in the oven. This makes for a nicer crust that is easier to cut in my opinion, but it’s not absolutely necessary.

9. Bake for 40 minutes, then let it cool. Would recommend eating the first crust piece when it’s still warm, though, for maximum awesome.

And bam, you just made bread! And bread that keeps pretty well, too. Enjoy your air hole-free, tasty bread.

I had a great week working on more Qt6 support and getting Note Import Options ready for advanced users to try out.

The Qt6 launch last week went generally well. There were a couple of little typo bugs as expected, but most users reported nothing drastic.

I have fixed several issues and also improved graphical quality at >100% UI scale. Qt6 handles UI scale tech much better, but that also exposed all the better where my custom UI was failing. Thumbnails at 125% were looking pretty ugly, with nearest-neighbour scaling, so I knuckled down and did my homework on how all this is supposed to work, and I think I have it fixed. Thumbnails should look ok at any UI scale in Qt6, and their banner text too. My fixes apply to Qt5 too, but as far as I can tell that only really works comprehensively for 100%/200% scale. I will try to tackle the media viewer next week.

If you are an experienced user with a backup, please feel free to try Qt6 out on your real install. If both Qt5 and Qt6 are available, the client will now default to Qt6, so you shouldn't need to do a 'clean install' like last week. My test of this went fine, but if there is some odd dll conflict when you try to boot, check here on how to clear things out and either revert to Qt5-only or try Qt6-only:

Any reports on failures here would be useful so I can write in any needed 'delete these old files' rules to the Qt6 Win installer.

As a reminder, afaik Windows 7 cannot run Qt6, so don't try it out if that's you. I will switch over to Qt6 exclusively in a few weeks, at which point I'll update the help and talk more about your future options, which will be: stop updating the client; move to a newer OS; run in Win7/Qt5 from source.

Note Import Options

Unfortunately I couldn't fit all this in again, but I've done work I'm happy with and have parts of it ready for advanced users to play with. Fingers crossed, the first simple version of this will be completely integrated next week.

The File Import Options update last week went ok. I messed something up with the Presentation Options, so highlighting a gallery or watcher with a default FIO was always showing the same thing (new or all files) instead of what the default actually said. This is fixed.

I have pushed FIO and TIO further together this week. File Import Options and Tag Import Options are now merged into one button and one dialog across the program. The dialog is tabbed, so you edit both sets of options at the same time, and in future, any new Import Options will work through the same interface.

Note Import Options is going to do that very soon. I need to figure out how NIO defaults are going to work (probably the same way TIO does, based on network domain to allow for finicky per-site options as needed) and do some more parsing stuff, and then it should all link together. If you would like to check out what NIO looks like, please hit up network->downloader components->EXPERIMENTAL: check out Note Import Options. Read the help and tooltips, and let me know if it is crazy confusing or if you think I have missed anything simple, obvious, and important.

Downloader creators can also play with note parsing. It isn't linked to anything yet, but you can see how it works. It is pretty simple, just a new Content Parser type. You set the name of the note and parse the text. It'll get washed through the NIO and then applied to the file. The main remaining problem is the parsing system can't yet do multi-line results. I'd like to tackle that in the coming week(s). If you make downloaders, please have a think about what notes if any you would like to parse and what tech I can add to make that easier. However to stop myself going crazy, I have decided for this first version to not allow parsed note names.

Qt6:

if available, Qt6 is now the default. specifically, if the QT_API environment variable is not set, the default is now PySide6, and if that is not available, then PySide2 (Qt5). previously, the opposite was true

fixed a bug in last week's File Import Options default update with the new 'default' FIOs always showing 'new' files on a gallery/watcher highlight. the Presentation Import Options and the check to see if the pending local file domains actually exist now correctly look up the 'default' FIOs

Qt6 has much better UI scaling support than Qt5 for zooms other than 100%/200%. many Windows users are at 125%/150%, which revealed some pretty ugly thumbnails and thumb banner text in Qt6. thank you for the reports. I did my homework and read up on how this is _supposed_ to work and I have hacked pretty thumbnails at unusual UI scales. it also redraws itself correctly when I move from a 100% screen to a different one at 125%; let me know how you get on. I'm quite pleased

the media viewer is still slightly borked at >100%. the fix will be slightly different, but I have a plan and hope to have it sorted for next week.

as a reminder, as far as I know, Windows 7 cannot run Qt6. I will be dropping the Qt5 build in a few weeks, so if you are a Windows 7 user, have a think on what you want to do--either stop updating, move hydrus to a newer OS, or run from source on Win 7/Qt5

note import options and note parsing:

note parsing is ready in parts. I am rolling them out for feedback from advanced users and hope to link it all up into a working system next week!

the different 'x import options', previously file and tag import options, and this week adding 'note import options', are now edited through one combined button and dialog. this 'import options' button dynamically adjusts to deal with how many types of import options the importer has and will relabel and tooltip and right-click-menu itself appropriately

this new button and multi-edit-panel show '(is default)' status in menus and tabs for quick referral

I have no default system for Note Import Options set up yet, so I have not added it for real. I will do something domain-based, similar to Tag Import Options.

I did however write simple note parsing support. any Content Parser can now have a 'note' parsing type, with a note name. downloader creators, please feel free to play with this, although it isn't complicated and isn't plugged in yet. I think we should review what sites have parseable notes and plan for that rather than start implementing for real just yet. the main limitation is that the parsing system can't do multi-line results yet

I'd like to see if I can get NIO defaults going next week, and this should suddenly all lock into place. multi-line parsing may be easy or a massive pain, I'm not sure yet

added two new checkboxes to _options->files and trash_ to turn off the yes/no confirmation when you copy/move file across multiple local file services

the 'overwrite this session?' confirmation dialog now says the session name you are overwriting

fixed a bug where thumbnails were not immediately updating their banner text on changes to the summary generator objects in _options->tag presentation_

moved the 'focus thumbnail in preview window' checkboxes from 'gui pages' options page to 'thumbnails'

updated the text and enabled status of the 'BUGFIX: discord DnD' stuff in _options->gui_

updated the job description texts in the file maintenance dialog, improving formatting and clarifying what happens in each missing/incorrect job, and what 'remove record' means precisely (it leaves no deletion record)

boring note import options cleanup and refactoring:

moved ClientGUIImport code up to a new hydrus.client.gui.importing module, refactored it into multiple files, and merged in some other edit panels for various import gui

merged the file/tag import options buttons into one cleverer and cleaner class. changed its update callables into nicer Qt signals. wrote a new tabbed edit panel for it to work with, and replaced all old import option buttons across the program with the new system

fixed an issue where the 'import options' buttons (now merged) would allow you to set them as 'default' through the right-click menu even when the button was set to not allow defaults (this state occurs in the options dialog, when you _set_ what the defaults are)

fixed the same when you try to paste default options into the button

brushed up and completed the note import options object

wrote a 'edit note import options' panel

fixed a small thing where the 'string-to-string' list widget wasn't setting the custom 'value' column header name correctly

More of this, I'm afraid! I regret focusing on this for so long, but the work is going well and I want both done properly. I'll see if I can get the media viewer displaying good at >100% UI scale, knock off any other Qt6 problems, and then hammer out Note Import Options defaults so we can actually start parsing real stuff.
