@roykiller07 There's been some costumes on display on mannequins, which might help staring at the technical details for how Electra fits together? It's easier to see when not on a living actor!
John Napier's basic concept is "toy - trains" - like action figures, the joints are emphasised as the joints are needed to allow the rigid mechanics to move! This is the opposite of his work on the musical "Cats", where almost all the seams, the joints between fabric even, are eliminated or hidden to make the performers as smooth and fluid as possible. For Starlight, we don't have fluid, we have chonky!
The German costumes are duplicates of the Broadway costumes made by Parsons-Meares in 1987, the Parsons-Meares costumes were used as the basis for all productions except the original London production in 1984 - and now the 2024 Wembley production. (Though I believe a few makers who worked on the London show in its later years did also work on the Wembley costumes, but not in a design/supervisory role, so things like construction methods probably didn't get carried across.)
Anyway! The Classic Broadway / Bochum costumes by John Napier rely heavily on a basic bodysuit, often padded and quilted, with belt, vest, elbow, kneepads, gloves, thigh pads, etc, attached.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's Espresso's basic suit, knees and thigh patches remain connected - Espresso's performer has to quick change between the engine and the gang costumes. there's a zip the full length of the leg so he can change without removing skates!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The coaches are a bit different of course, being lighter, more shapely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The coaches have leotard and leggings, with plenty of anchor points to hold the other pieces in place.
As to what it all means? That's quite a different question! The original designs are mostly collages of photos of trains, they're meant to get the idea of the mechanics across rather than being a literal representation in most parts.
Tumblr media
Generally it's understood that the bands around ankles etc are springs, the big shock absorbers. Elbows have buffers, the coaches arms and legs have windows - their shoulders are the carriages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sticking to the Broadway/original Bochum designs here - the original London were very experimental and done on a shoestring budget. They poured money into the Broadway designs - it was the 1980s after all! Later costumes have had less overall concept behind them, they just "Look like Starlight Express". And the Gabriella Slade costumes? I have no clue. but they're shiny.

Yesterday I posted a thread about Istvan's and Erik's emotional incest and decided to bring it on Tumblr too, because I think I did a decent job.
Why I think I can say something about psychology? Well, I've been having a special interest for it for almost all my life, my mom is a therapist with almost 20 years of practice, we discuss her work often, I read books about psychology (my favorite specialists are K.G. Jung, M.L. von Franz and I.D. Yalom). So yes, I'm qualified. Why be shy and demure when I can not to?
So let's begin!
If you don't know, it's quite normal when small kids (3-6 y.o.) have a "crush" on their parents. Boys may think that they will marry their moms, a lot of girls think the same about their dads. This is called Oedipus' complex and Electra's complex respectively. Despite these terms were made for straight (and cis) people, we can and should adapt them for queer people too. For example, I perfectly remember these experiences with both of my parents (I'm under a bisexual umbrella). For Erik I will use the term "Oedipus' complex", simply because he's a man and this term is masculine.
So. This is pretty normal for a lot of people and usually passes without a trace (most of people who experienced it even don't remember about it). But this scenario happens in healthy families with trustful relationships, where parents and kids love each other. We know a little about Erik's family and can only use his own words, when he said his parents were weak and couldn't raise him properly. I believe this means he hadn't had a close and sincere relationship with his parents (I also see him as autistic, and his neurodivergence made his relationships with people more difficult). This is very possible that before Erik met Istvan, he hadn't had a man who could've been his father figure, someone who could've taught him how to be a man, too, who showed him that it's possible to fight for a place under the sun respect and other needs.
But Istvan came, he was strong and independent, he took what he wanted and needed, and for Erik he became a man to follow, basically a father (maybe Istvan was the same age as his real father was, we don't know). A father he never had, someone who can protect and teach him, to take care of him, to become someone whom Erik can be attached to. You know. A family.
I tend to think that Istvan became a father figure for Erik first, and someone to have Oedipus' complex, gay edition second. Erik also idealized him, because he HAD TO deal with fact that Istvan actually murdered his family and took away everything he had, but gave so much more than they ever did instead. So he had to tell himself that Istvan is better than them and that he was in his right, because the strongest wins and lives and weak are useless and deserve to die.
As I said, Erik hadn't had a healthy base to have his Oedipus' complex. Since this is a quite necessary thing for majority of people, it was Istvan to become such a base. And here are a few factors why this complex gone fucked up:
- Erik is too grown-up for it. As I mentioned, the normal age is 3-6, and I believe Istvan met Erik when he was 12-13 already, what is definitely too late,
- Istvan is not his relative (maybe Erik was able to perform actual incest, but whatever, the fact they aren't related makes the situation worse),
- Erik developed an unhealthy codependency for Istvan. He (as I see) was hungry and desperate for connections, he idealized Istvan, he needes him more than anything,
- he was in the age when most people have their first sexual crushes (I don't say all 13 y.o. teens should fuck, but a majority of them do have sexual fantasies of different kinds, it's just normal).
So, all of these factors collided and grew into a rather unhealthy mixture that made Erik's late and already fucked up Oedipus' complex in an actual crush.
I think his jealousy and desire to have Istvan only for himself have the same roots. When you have only one person you care about and this person is the only one who shows care for you, you are very likely begin to think they should belong to you and only you and you must be their everything, or else you are useless and no one will ever need you. You begin to think that you should give them anything and everything they need (because they did the same thing to you) and begin to be jealous and angry (and discarded) if they dare to fulfill some of their needs with other people.
Actually, this wish to be "together and only together" also has roots in familial ties (or lack of them). I remember a stunning autobiography of (my favorite) Elias Canetti. When he was a teenager, his father died and he became a man for his family and literally tried to become a husband for his mom, because he loved her so. Thankfully, they both weren't so fucked up, and this situation didn't become worse and didn't end up in an incestuous bond. But you see my point, I think. If a child/teen has a parent (or parental figure) on whom they can have a "crush", this thing can happen. This - and something much worse.
So I think for Erik Istvan is everything. His salvation, his mentor, his father he'd never had, his lover... He will be anybody and everybody for Istvan, and he doesn't think there's something very wrong with it. I can perfectly see a 14 y.o. Erik who kisses Istvan and says he wants to be his man. He is already taller than him and have broader shoulders - not a boy anymore, but a young lad. Istvan is proud of him - and of himself too. I wonder if he could resist a temptation to accept his feelings...
Gosh, they are soooooooo problematic AND I'M HERE FOR IT.
I hope you liked my post! Also I strongly recommend Canetti's autobiography, it's great! It has three parts, I found both original titles and English ones for them: Die Gerettete Zunge/The Tongue Set Free, Die Fackel im Ohr/The Torch in My Ear, Das Augenspiel/The Play of the Eyes.
(Shio just finished his paper for university and makes literature references even in his internet posts...)
(also please give some attention to my original twitter thread <:3 the link is in the beginning)
P.S. a lot of thoughts about them were given to me by this absolutely amazing fic! If you love Isterik, give it a try, it's so worth it!

Big encouragement to tell us all about Ohma so I've got some questions to inspire a lore dump
Why does Ohma call Electra just 'Electra' but Porter 'dad'? The electric is seen as distant, but why's that?
What's Ohma's relationship with each of her parents?
How do others in the yard interact with Ohma?
How are trainlets created in your opinion? Is it a manufacturing process that somehow merges the two parents' characteristics/physical properties?
What are her relationships with other trainlets in the yard?
What does she look like? It there any references for her already? I'd love to draw her maybe
Feel free to yap, I'm super interested 😌
Serval I’m so eternally grateful for ur questions and I’m so grateful for you giving me the opportunity to yap 😭 thank you so much for asking!!!
This could get long and rambly so I’m gonna put this under the cut-
1 - Electra’s parental title) two main reasons! One is that there’s not really a gender neutral parent title that rolls off the tongue easily, and Electra’s fairly uncomfortable with both mum and dad. The other reason is that Electra isn’t really around when Ohma is learning how to talk, and all she hears is her dad talking about this Electra fellow, so once Electra enters her life properly, the name has stuck.
2 - distant electrics) Electra finds the whole ‘having a kid’ thing to be quite… alien? Ohma was very much a mistake on everyone’s part, and Electra is not in any way a natural parent, but Porter put his foot down and said that if they wanted to keep Porter around, they’d have to get used to the wee one too, so they’re trying their hardest to get used to it. Give it a few years and Ohma has them wrapped around her little finger.
3 - parentals) Porter is her primary parent, and he dotes on her as much as physically possible without spoiling her - she learned to skate late since he was too worried about her hurting herself, despite the fact that in this universe his main job is running a training centre to teach rehabilitated trains to skate again. Electra is a bit more tentative, especially when she’s super young, but once they begin to interact with her she’s attached to their hip whether they want her to or not. Both are incredibly protective of her - one much more obviously than the other.
4 - yard relationships) most of the trainlets in the yard are fairly well liked, since MOST of the rolling stock (looking at you here GB) know to put their rivalries aside to prevent literal blood feuds happening. She spends a lot of time with her cousins and her various aunts and uncles, which she has a lot of since all the freights, components, and coaches are at her beck and call - the only one that struggles with her is GB. I have another fankid OC that hasn’t shown up yet, a punky little greasedinah baby called Vulcan, and GB refuses to let her kid hang out with the child of ‘that gross electric’ (which is a bit of a problem when they become best of friends)
5 - creation methods) this is actually something I haven’t decided on! For the fic I wrote, I use Garnet’s system which is touched on more in her fics, but if I move forwards with my own universe for this it will probably be more akin to trainlets being made in a factory with aspects of both parents - Ohma was a bit of an experiment from Electra’s company to create a modern dynamometer car, but neither of them really realised quite what that entailed until Electra was presented with the kid, and they freaked.
6 - yard friends) she has 7 million cousins between the Tendersteam bunch (Gar’s universe has him oversee a bunch of ‘Kids’ in the form of experimental hydrogen rail projects since he’s a tanker and the oldest of any hydrogen project, and then him and Rusty build Blaze, as you met!) and however many random little wood trucks Lumber decides to adopt. Porter also takes her to work a lot once she’s old enough to entertain herself so she makes friends there, and eventually she’s thick as thieves with Vulcan, to the point where they become racing partners once they’re adults!
7 - image) I do have some art that I’ll link but you have to swear not to judge me because she was the first thing I’ve drawn since I gave up on art nearly 10 years ago 😂 for a brief description though, she’s a fairly short but strong component that visibly lacks the decorum of the other components, with fluffy hair that turns fire red at the tips and godawful posture. There’s also nothing happening behind her eyes - she’s quite spacey and oblivious unless she’s working, at which point she’s so locked in it’s almost impossible to lock her out again (guess what she inherited from her two autistic parents no I’m not projecting)
Rotating her 360 degrees in my brain… single handedly saves her parents relationship and forces them to talk to each other for the first time in their lives…
Thank you so so so so so much for the ask friend!!!!!!!

Me! I'm gonna ask questions about the taco bell au!
What do they do on their off days?
OOH OOH OK
so during the day they’re all students at the local community college, so they see each other a decent amount outside of work already!
Dinah and Pearl are roommates and they’ll take nights off together to have movie nights and go get free taco bell from their partners/crushes
Belle and Tass are similar, they also live together and they’re neighbors w Dinah and Pearl. They have quiet study nights when they have time off together usually. Belle likes experimenting with different tea blends at work to find which one puts them to sleep the fastest after studying
Dinah and Greaseball super rarely get days off together since they’re like the de facto shift leads at their respective shops, but when they do, they’ll normally go out to a bar or something rather than stay home. I get the vibe they’re both pretty into parties
When Dinah has nights off to herself she makes herself margs and does her homework (cooking, she’s a culinary major) at literal lightning speed while listening to Kesha
Greaseball’s solo nights off are normally spent at sports practice or the gym, she’s a tryhard(/affectionate)
Pearl’s time off is mostly just studying at the Taco Bell to flirt with Rusty or the coffee shop to flirt with Electra (she’s an adorable menace, neither of them can focus on work)
Electra avoids everyone but Pearl and Rusty when they have time off, they’re like a ghost lmao. (They’re at the library working on electrical engineering homework or something)
Lumber and Porter literally always take their days off together bc they’re attached at the hip, they’re usually at the skate park
Hydra spends his days off getting high and annoying Tass at the coffee shop if he’s working
Slick does essentially the same thing except she’s bothering Belle and drinking way too much caffeine (she’s like two weeks behind on her schoolwork)
Belle just goes to bed early on her nights off, nuff said
Tass hangs out in the library quiet floor and reads usually
Rusty probably hangs out in the cafe most nights, partly on account of Electra and Pearl but also because Momma is there

Character(s): OLC Electra, OLC wrench (briefly)
Relationship(s): none
Triggers: none
Quick summary: Electra isn’t used to sleeping and feels out of wack. Luckily an old friend is there to help
Word count: 1117
It was awfully quiet. Vibrant halls of made up of tiles sat deserted the moon light reflecting off the floor making the room brighter than it was. Faint whirls of restless engines echoed amongst hushed whispers.
Electra sat up, dazed and heavy. His limbs pinned between who he assumed was Krupp and joule. Two weeks into this sleep experiment and Electra still didn’t feel much better. His battery was fully charged but he still felt… restless. Like something was scraping at his frame, crawling along his bolts and making him twitch. What the hell was going on with him. His engine whirled and hummed quietly. Pulling his legs from underneath the soft covers and the components he stood up onto his wheels. 5 in the bed soon became 4 as he made his way out of the room.
As he stepped out into the quiet corridor, Electra stretched, metallic joints creaking slightly. He rolled forward slowly with no real intention. Just movement, slow and steady.
Maybe sleeping wasn’t for him. He never used to sleep before moving to this yard. A foreign concept at best and proof of superiority at worst for him.
“What are you doing awake?” A steady voice spoke, wrench
“I could ask you the same question you know?” He huffed moving to turn around and look
his eyes narrowed. "Couldn't sleep either, huh? Well, looks like we've got that in common then." He crossed his arms over his chest, the metal of his shoulder pads clinking softly.
"So, any particular reason you're interrupting my alone time? Or did you just miss my pretty mug that much?" He rocked back and forth gently on his wheels, impatient.
“You were the one that suggested we sleep like everyone else? Are you missing the night life of the commission?” The quiet corridor stretched out before them, broken only by their faint mechanical hums and clanks before any words were spoken.
he mocking tone in Wrench's voice sat heavy, but he brushed it off with a shrug of his shoulders."Tch, you're one to talk, Wrench," he scoffed, rolling closer to the smaller engine. "I thought you were all about keeping the trains running smoothly and on schedule. Shouldn't you be off fixing something instead of bothering me?"
He reached out and flicked Wrench's front buffer with his index finger, the metal clicking softly. "No, I'm not missing the nightlife of the commission. Trust me, I can get my thrills anytime I want."
“You’re right who am I to question you. But I know you. You can drop the act, I see through you. what’s wrong?”
Wrench was sworn to him, from the day he was built she was there. His repair truck.
His eyes narrowed at Wrench, his brow furrowing. He took a step back, looking at the other engine, annoyed. No one else in the yard dared to speak to him like this.
"What's wrong with you, Wrench? You think you know me so well?" he said, voice dripping with sarcasm. "You don't know shit. I'm fine, so just leave it."
Despite his words, he could feel a strange sensation in his chest, a flicker of something he had almost forgotten. Concern? Possible, but unlikely. He brushed it off, not wanting to dwell on the unfamiliar feeling.
"I meant it when I said you should be out there fixing things instead of bothering me here. So run along now, that's a good little mechanic."
“As you wish”
He watched as Wrench rolled away, the sound of her wheels fading down the quiet corridor. It was moments like these that he questioned his own sanity, his own ability to connect with others. But then again, he had never been one for petty sentiments and emotional attachments. At least, that's what he told himself.
Shaking his head, Elektra turned around and continued his aimless wandering, metal joints creaking with each turn. The corridor seemed to stretch on forever, a neverending maze of cold, lifeless walls. He hated this place, hated the way it made him feel so small and insignificant. And yet, something kept pulling him back, kept him from fleeing to the relative safety of the outdoors.
The commission was safe. Surrounded by his own. Electrics.
Never resting always moving.
He shook his head, trying to clear his mind of the troublesome thought. He needed a distraction, and fast. He looked around the empty corridor, his eyes landing on a door that led to the old storage room. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as an idea formed in his head.
He rolled over to the door quietly, pressing his shoulder against it to push it open with ease. As he stepped into the dark room, he could see the faint outline of a few old crates stacked against the wall. Perfect. It had to be in here.
Elektra rolled over to the crate and pried it open, rummaging through the various old parts and pieces. At the bottom of the crate, he found what he was looking for.
A plush robot. A toy. The first thing he opened his eyes too
Elektra picked up the old plush toy, dusting it off with his l hand. It was a small robot, not unlike himself, but softer, more... innocent. He couldn't remember the last time he had held something so gentle and untainted. A flicker of a long-forgotten memory surfaced, of a time before the yard, before the fame and the endless parade of components. A time when he too had been pure, unspoiled. He held the toy close, a strange sense of nostalgia washing over him. He couldn't recall the last time he had felt so at peace, so content. The soft material seemed to melt into his metal fingers,
He sat down on the cold stone floor of the storage room, cradling the toy robot in his lap. His thumb rubbed the worn fabric, tracing the outlines of the toy's features. In that moment, Elektra felt a flicker of the innocence he had lost long ago, a glimpse into the engine he used to be before the yard had changed him.
But the respite was short-lived. The memories of his past came flooding back, and with them, the weight of his reputation. He couldn't afford to be seen as weak, as vulnerable. He was Electra , the megastar, the electric who had it all. And he couldn't let anyone, not even himself, forget it.
With a sudden movement, Elektra tossed the toy robot back into the crate, burying it beneath the old parts and scrap metal. He stood up, brushing the dust off his thighs and chest
Maybe things would be ok.

Have not been on here nearly as much as I used to-outside of my job I've been working very hard on my next cosplay build: Electra from starlight express
This is the most complex costume I've ever made, but I'm very pleased with what I have so far!
Tumblr media
Still have a lot of ways left to go! But it's been extremely rewarding seeing things piece together so nicely
Write-up and WIP photos under cut
The very first thing I started with this costume was the bodysuit, it is the foundation that everything will sit upon so it should be out of the way first, and it would be easier to pattern my armour once I know how it will sit in relation to the rest of the costume
I also knew I would be wearing this to a convention and would want to have easy access for the washroom, so I actually turned a full bodysuit pattern into separate leggings and a leotard with a snap crotch closure
Did the leggings first-at first I wanted to be as accurate as possible with a silver chrome foil HTV that I cut on my Cricut machine with the circuit pattern cut out- but I found out after ironing that despite there being all these spaces between the squares that the fabric did not stretch enough to be able to fit(I had made mock-ups for my clothing pieces and those did fit correctly)
Red sections of clothing is turned edge applique done with water soluble stabilizer so it could stretch after throwing it in the wash
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So after that didn't pan out I switched to a stretch HTV, just using the same design files, and widened the legs a bit, it helped a bit but the HTV not only did not stretch enough, but does not like the lycra I was using and in areas with the most stretch the squares were peeling and in some places even falling off
Tumblr media
At this point I had spent almost an entire month on just my leggings-clearly I had to try something else because the HTV was just not going to work
I got jacquard lumiere fabric paint in silver-it's okay if I could go back I'd probably just have gotten angelus leather paint I find it has much nicer stretch and softer feel
I also widened the spaces between my squares to give them a little more stretch, and cut just a full grid of adhesive vinyl to use as a stencil and kept the wider pants pattern from my second pair
I did have to mask off the circuit pattern this way but it came out very nicely and finally had a method that gave me a wearable garment
So I moved onto my leotard next with significantly less headaches- though my arms did not stretch enough after being painted but that was easily remedied with a gusset on the underarm
Collar is interfaced with flexfoam
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since my thigh armour will attach to the belt that was next, honestly pretty easy, mostly rectangles, used real studs and then permanent vinyl for the red and silver bits
Couplers are flexfoam inside a tube of silver pleather, physical belting straps is a thick interfacing covered with the same silver, had to use grommets for the belt holes because it was very frayed when I punched them open
Tumblr media
Tumblr mobile won't let me add more than 10 photos on mobile but for my helmet I duct tape patterned my head and then used 2mm foam covered in worbla, used wood filler and sanded that as much as I could, then covered in a few layers of flexbond and then wet sanded that
Painted with automotive paint to get those little silver flecks, and then painted the colour blocks and covered them with glitter
Still have to add the stripes and chinstrap, and going to be using magnet snaps to attach the Mohawk to the helmet
Tumblr media
That's essentially what I have so far!
I 3D modeled the little arrow thing that goes on the front of the belt and elbows, my brother's going to 3D print them for me 🤭
Started foam patterning this week, my original goal was to have this done by November 7th(leaving for the con I'm taking them to) but again-i did have almost an entire month of setbacks so I'm going to try to not take it too hard if I don't

Takes on Ariadne?
Feeling stupid because I just noticed that there are 2 asks left… and considering I closed the askbox, you guys must have been here for a considerable amount of time. The funny part is that you asked about related characters lol
Well, about Ariadne… I don't think much of her? I think her relationship with Dionysus has a lot of potential, but I don't think much of her individually, as a character. In general, the things that the individual character sets out to do…there are characters that I feel have done in a more interesting way, that is, with the surviving sources that we have. Like:
Yeah, I know there is the dilemma of betraying one's country and going with a foreigner, etc, but I already have Medea for that, about which dilemma I have already discursed extensively here. What we have in Argonautica for Medea (in the sense of books focused on how Medea feels) isn't something we have in a similar way for Ariadne.
There's the complicated family, but the sources give us almost nothing about Ariadne's interactions with her family, so what we have is mostly modern invention (even the presumption that Ariadne cared for Minotaur… I don't recall seeing that genuinely stated in a source. Pasiphae has more evidence for this than Ariadne, considering the visual depiction of Pasiphae holding baby Minotaur as if he were an common child). Consequently, there are more interesting complicated families in other characters, like Theban family. Even the idea of "a character who knows that the death of a family member is necessary, but hesitates until they finally do what is necessary" was better explored, in the surviving sources, with the House of Atreus given the hesitation of Orestes and Electra.
She was immortalized, but I'm honestly more interested in mortal characters, so immortalization isn't something I care about. And anyway, again there are characters whose relationship to the idea of mortality interests me more, like Achilles.
In general, much of what is said about Ariadne is assumed. What she feels for the Minotaur is assumed, what she feels for Phaedra is assumed, even what she feels for her parents is assumed. Ariadne's most memorable relationships are with Theseus and Dionysus in the surviving sources. Even how she felt about the Cretan rule imposed on the Athenians is mostly assumed, as the sources tend to focus more on how she was in love with Theseus than how she felt about this injustice. The mortal side of Ariadne, which is the side I'm most interested in, is relatively nebulous. Normally, that wouldn't be enough to stop me. For example, I'm interested in Deidamia. But the reason I'm interested in Deidamia is that she brings up a type of conflict that, as common as it is in real life, isn't really addressed in myth. In Ariadne's case, the main conflict (the betrayal of a cruel father), as mentioned, has been explored in more detail in the character of Medea. If there weren't another character with a similar conflict that was explored more, I would probably feel about Ariadne similar to how I feel about Deidamia. But that isn't the case. And as I said, her immortal life doesn't interest me…so yes (there are immortal characters that interest me, but they're exceptions. For example, Thetis and Oenone).
Consequently, I feel that the lack of Ariadne-focused sources (and not Theseus-focused or Dionysus-focused sources that has Ariadne) has damaged my relationship with the character. I feel neutral about her, I don't think anything of her. I know it's unpopular for me to not have an opinion about Ariadne, but it's honestly the truth. I don't care about happily ever after enough for her to have like a failed first relationship and a happy second relationship to be enough for me to get attached to. I relate to her in a similar way to Andromeda, very neutral. But at least Andromeda's themes are more interesting, so much so that I managed to make a huge post about her. Ariadne's themes have potential, but the lack of prominence for her in surviving sources complicates things. I think there must have been sources focused on her, but they must be lost now.
Verdict: neutral.

@lightingelectratwo
sorry this took so long my brain wasn't working
ELECTRA
ahh Electra
for her design it's a mix of 1998 and the Broadway revival designs
OK SOOOO
She is Bombalurina and Tuggers daughter
I go back and forth on her having powers, I definitely think Jemima does, but unlike Jemima's i think Electra's powers is more external then internal, like maybe teleporting and shapeshifting??
Shes older then Jemima by either a few months or a year at most
Shes a mamas girl and was basically attached to Bomba when she was little
She give 'creepy little girl' vibes
i think she likes dancing and her number 1 dance partner is Etcetera
she's a surprisingly good hunter
I think she's quiet but not shy she just doesn't like to talk a lot
As a ADD girly i think she's a ADD girly, i don't know why it's just vibes
She really looks up to misto and thinks he so cool
When she grows up i think she becomes a tribe protector like here mama
I'm sorry this is so shit, i swear i have more thoughts about her i just don't know how to write them down 😭😭

If you had to write a sequel after TGOWARL with amaras son as the main character, how would you go on abt it? Who would be his love interest, how would his relationship with his parents look like, would you even keep amara and aegon alive or would you do something tragic abt them, and most importantly: WOULD HE BE A HOT VAMPIRE?!
Took me an embarrassing few seconds to figure out what TGOWARL was *-*
Tbh I wouldn't write a sequel as it would basically be an OC novel so I just don't feel the point of writing that in the ASOIAF verse. Not against discussing it though.
But also hmmmm...so in Burning Jasmine, Valerion was one of the most batshit Targaryens possible. The only way he could be more batshit in this version is if he was preying on his own sister, which Jaehaerys already will grow up to do. There are plot points I can't betray currently, so the relationship with his parents can't be fully unfurled, however, he isn't Aegon's favourite by any means, I will say that. He reminds Aegon of Aemond, but he also comes off more "Uller" than Targaryen because of the black hair (which does have a white mallen streak).
Amara's parental situation..........is not as perfect as it seems, which will be explored in the next chapter, and it's kind of the reason why she herself isn't the best parent in this fic as compared to Burning Jasmine. She gets overwhelmed easily, or becomes "friends" with her kids which isn't the correct way to discipline them. Aegon on the other hand is always the disciplinarian and not a friend, but only because he wants to exert control over his children the way he knows Viserys didn't over him (he probably fears children like himself to rebel against him).
Aegon's parenting throws everything more into imbalance than Amara's though, because she at least tries to give them all love equally even when depression hits and she just wants to pretend she doesn't have kids and retreats into herself (parenting is a 24/7 job and not everyone is ready for it).
But Aegon favours Jaehaera heavily. The topic of spousification of a child is a difficult one, but it happens all the time. And I think if Amara died or just withdrew emotionally from Aegon, he would spousify Jaehaera (who will grow up to have mental health/behavioural issues of her own which can get very violent, but with her dad, she's always sweet). Theres quite a fair bit of Electra complex with Jaehaera when she's in her teenage years, so it's something that travels both ways and gets unhealthy, especially when their attachment as father-daughter starts to alienate his sons (especially Jaehaerys, who only ever had Aegon once his mother died).
Jaehaerys's obsession with Jaehaera stems from the basic element of she has everything I want, she is everything I want. She has Amara who is his pseudo-mother figure, she has Aegon who is his father, she has the love of everyone who sees her because she's the Targaryen princess who was legitimised and hatched her egg before she was even born. Half of it is Jaehaerys wanting to cut off her skin and wear it, and the other half is obviously sexual/emotional/mental (I need you to need me so I can convince myself I'm worth something - but if you don't do it the way I want, I hurt you).
Compared to his two older siblings, Valerion is relatively ignored. Which obviously mean he develops a personality all by himself, explores the world himself, learns how to regulate his emotions on his own. In that sense he's sort of like Aegon aka visiting brothels young because a friend suggested it. Hanging out with a group outside his family all the time and learning how to be a man from them (with disastrous results). He would also go for the biggest dragon over keeping the egg he was given as a babe (which would never hatch). He probably wouldn't want Vermithor for this personal belief that because the dragon hasn't seen heavy war, he's "useless." He'd want a dragon like Cannibal, simply because he enjoys the thought of the beast hunting out his siblings' mounts for sport. He's sadistic to a fault, and if he ever became king, he'd make Maegor look like a fun time in the park.
p.s. I don't understand the vampire question 😭

MCU TV Shows Ranking (That I've Seen)
Because there are just too many now to watch them all, plus, why watch the ones I'm uninterested in?
Anyways, the rules will encapsulate the whole show so all seasons as one, I can't say that I like S1 and disliked S2 and rank it only based on S1. I will also clarify if I think it's worth continuing.
Tumblr media
Daredevil- Karen lacks, Foggy's good, Matt's really good, Kingpin's really good. Electra could use some work as well as the Hand. Bullseye is actually marvelous except for the very end but the three seasons make for a nice bundle.
Tumblr media
Punisher- It's like comic and Jon Bernthal Punisher are two different things but I like both for different and similar reasons. It plays off of him very nicely and lays the groundwork for a more realistic setting with interesting action. Jigsaw was a compelling villain as well and I found myself liking a few other characters but there were definitely the few that lacked. Both seasons were decent enough. I'd be open to continue.
Tumblr media
Hawkeye- Not bad, have some complaints about Kate but overall a good entertaining show. I'd watch a season 2 but I feel like it's not really made for one, they will probably just continue to appear in other stuff.
Tumblr media
Falcon & The Winter Soldier - I actually liked it more than I thought I would as I didn't have much interest in the characters but it turns out that I just needed more time with them. Unlike most of the ones on this list, I liked the ending, though it didn't completely knock me over. I think that a lot of what was in this series should've been the basis for everything going forward because of how it treated their livelihoods and asked questions. I'm not sure any of these series matched the hype of the fake Captain America decapitating a guy with the shield. This paved the way for Cap 4 which would've been questionable without this series.
Tumblr media
Wandavision - I wasn't hyped for this, I let it slip by my radar because whatever, I never cared for either of them anyway. People complain about it having a main superhero plot but that's what I stayed for, I liked that portion but then I finished it and I completely understand why now. It's not a bad series and has a lot of cool ideas but just a weird way to end things. It got Multiverse of Madness which was mid and Agatha isn't out yet but I'm not hyped for that either, wouldnt be surprised if it fails due to lack of name recognition.
Tumblr media
Ms. Marvel- A few of these I like comparing to Disney Channel shows because of how they act and while it all started with this one, I have to admit, it actually gets a lot of the teenager stuff right but I think it throws so much at the wall that it has to get at least some of it so there are a few misses as well. The ending is dumb, her powers are ok but they could be used a lot better and I imagine they will. She was the best part of the Marvels and it's S2 worthy.
Tumblr media
Cloak & Dagger - It was an entertaining watch but perhaps not the most enticing. I liked the characters but they were very much put into tv show circumstances so I felt like it was its own thing. I like the actors and characters enough to keep them in the MCU but don't care to see another season, I wasn't all that big on S2 anyway.
Tumblr media
She-Hulk - Last place, huh? I actually had the most hype for this one because I was hoping we'd get with She-Hulk what we didn't get with Hulk. In fact, I like her more because I first learned about her in the cartoon and well-
I think a lot of kids couldn't resist THAT. So I grew attached to her and had all these ideas for how she could be introduced and-oh, no not that.
Tumblr media
But I still held out hope because I lowered my expectations and just wanted a crumb but the more it went on, the less I liked it and then I learned that it was all by design and I wasn't really sure how to feel about that and then time passed and I was like, that shouldn't matter, it didn't pay off despite a cool ending. I logged all this in other posts. Yet- here I am- an advocate for S2...

Would you be able to do a costume breakdown for Broadway/bochum Electra
I've had a couple of requests for Electra, and somehow they're a bit more intimidating than the others, despite having some great references! I love it when they put costumes on mannequins, it's so much less awkward to get close-up butt shots!
Tumblr media
So this super helpful model was in the Tourist Information Centre in Bochum, wearing a costume that, when you look very close, is very old and worn, but still spectacular! Thyey held still for some great close-ups! There was also a mannequin in the theatre - I suspect the two of them had been mixed up at some point, because the theatre mannequin has a much more faded base and less faded chest pack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OK, first, Electra's base layer is a printed spandex unitard. I believe the blue and red is custom dyed - there doesn't seem to be a seam between the colours suggesting it's patched in or appliqué. Then the silver foil is heat set, the patterns are created by just removing some of the squares before it's all applied. As the mannequin shows, this does *eventually* peel but it seems to last a good long while! He has a front zip, and the attached foam collar seems large when he's undressed. As the hanging photo shows, he's got the various loop and snaps to connect the pads to the base suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Shoulders / chest pack are on a jacket base - this is the Theatre mannequin, where the jacket is much brighter than the base. So we can see there's a basic body which is the foil-decorated spandex over a very solid material, probably canvas, with large red side panels which attach to the front. This is the principal fastening, under the arms, and over their head - without wig, presumably!
Tumblr media
So many snaps... soooo many snaps... some just decorative to keep it consistent! So looking at the electronic panel, we can see silver fabric on the sides, this is sewn to the jacket and snaps to the hard plastic. Same with the lower moulded panel, and the back panel. I've not got the expertise to talk much about the electronics! The shape is vacuum formed, and lined with dense foam. It's gotta be pretty hard wearing and well supported, given the beating the costume took.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Electra's shoulders are relatively smooth and padded - this is because they do add the race pack shoulders on top. We can see fastenings on the inner front and back corners, those loops and snaps, but they are also stable on the top of the shoulder, at the centre. I don't think the silver strap we see clearly protruding for the race pack shoulders is also supporting the base shoulders - I'm sure it helps stabilise them but there's gotta be more snaps in the middle as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have upper arm, gauntlets, and upper and lower leg patches - these are all the same idea, they're vacuum-formed plastic with fabric glued in, silver decoration painted on, lined with foam and fabric, and attached with the straps and snaps. These straps are made a feature part of the textures. Also, his thighs are not symmetrical. I'm not sure I've noticed that before!
Tumblr media
Belt- there's a solid leather core in there, fabric details over foam. The handles are a separate piece which buckles on both sides. The codpiece is attached to the belt at the front, and has a strap that matches the base layer and snaps to the belt centre back.
Elbows are gonna be like I've described for other characters - dense foam shaping, covered in fabric. Are the wing nuts on his elbows the same size as the one on his belt? I think they're smaller. Pretty sure they're moulded latex foam, but it might be easier to sculpt them from sheet foam when you're not making a whole production worth of costumes!
Gloves - those are some fancy gloves. Blue suede, red leather, rhinestones on his knuckles for extra painful sparkle! I love the duality there, this is a character who loves the bling but you really don't want him to punch you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kneepads, the same basic construction we've seen before, but with all the angles! There's a dense foam structure, lined with a more padding-type of foam, then fabric. The outside is the decorated fabric, then covered with the transparent, replacable, vacuum moulded layer. There's one fixed, red strap at the middle, then upper and lower adjustable straps to tighten as needed. The combination means it's not gonna risk flying off!
Then skate covers. We have the same fabric as the jacket on the sides, then ridges of triangular dense foam covered in spandex with the silver squares. The same moulded latex wheels as the gloves - running up four of them for one costume would be worth a mould!
I haven't really covered the wig / skull cap... it's right into the prop side of prop costumes. But let's look...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So intrestingly our first mannequin - the sunbleached body with bright jacket, in the theatre, has a transparent skull cap! Our other mannequin here, who had had an accident in the hotel foyer, shows the more normal, fully coloured base, as does our friend from the Tourist Information Centre. So the skull cap is fitted to the actor's head - they make a mould to get a close, good fit, which is needed because of the weight and the wind resistance of that magnificent mohawk! As we know, it snaps onto the skull cap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The exact styling and size of the mohawk has changed over the years - but it's actually less hair than it seems. There's intensely sprayed stiff sides, and a whole lot of fluffy back-combing in between! Too much hair quickly becomes heavy and floppy under its own weight. Decades of mastery went into creating this spectacular beast!

There might be some RP stuff but I assure you that I, JJ am a real fictive and we really do have OSDD! I just like to be silly :3
As we are an adult, there might be some posts that I ask that minors do not interact with. They will be tagged accordingly!
Definition of OSDD"-1" since IG y'all need it or something idk
"OSDD-1 is the subtype that is most similar to DID. It is used for individuals who have similar symptoms to those with DID but who do not meet the full diagnostic criteria for DID. Most commonly, this describes individuals who have dissociative parts that are not sufficiently differentiated to qualify as alters or individuals who do not have amnesia between dissociative parts. Some individuals with OSDD-1 lack both amnesia and highly distinct parts, and other individuals with OSDD-1 have highly distinct parts but rarely or never switch between them."

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who noticed how Charlie never actually apologized to Vaggie for her behavior.
Vaggie kept a secret about being an angel, and it is understandable for Charlie to be upset. Even her actions towards Vaggie are reasonably understandable, but they still warrant an apology. She cuts Vaggie off, doesn't communicate anything with her about what just happened, leveraged the fact that Vaggie had kept a secret from her to essentially say Vaggie owes her and then walks away.
But we're supposed to take a blink and you miss it suggestive look from Charlie and her aggressively grabbing Vaggie in a sensual manner to replace an apology.
While Charlie's feelings are valid, he behavior is not. Her behavior is understandable, that doesn't make it above apologizing for. Even if you were in your right to not be the kindest version of yourself, the stonewalling Charlie put Vaggie through still necessitated a repairing of their relationship. There needed to be a basic apology in front of those gates and that was where the kids should have been placed.
Not hidden away on a lonely balcony before they may or may not die and singing a reprise of the Father-Daughter emotional ballad making the scene feel like an Electra complex. Not with Vaggie's hair covering her face the entire time and the characters cast in heavy shadows like everything from the writing to the art direction is ashamed of the only WLW relationship in both shows.
It should have been directly in front of the hotel and attached to an explicit, unquestioning apology from Charlie to Vaggie for how she treated her.
Pomni doesn't just say she appreciates Ragatha, but acknowledges that she hasn't been appreciative enough of what Ragatha has done for her. This is an apology. It's a vulnerable apology taking ownership of her own shortcomings and telling Ragatha explicitly, "This is where I have been failing, and I'm sorry for that".
Kinger's line about what he has control over is why Pomni apologizes. It makes her reflect on what she has control over in a situation she is stuck in and she's realized it is her relationships. And if she hopes to feel any control, she needs to take ownership of them, because having a sense of control is always going to improve our general well-being.
I am so very in love with TADC because it has an adult cast learning how to be adults and the way they all react reflects how it feels being a young adult, or in Kinger's case an adult with disabilities, in a world that is uncaring and out of your control. They are finding ways to be in control. And the control we ultimately have is our influence on others. This is absurdism 101.
Funny enough I have an essay on Bojack coming out touching some of these topics.
Pomni/Ragatha kinda proved to me that Chaggie isn’t bad because it isn’t toxic or lacks sexual content, it’s bad because there’s no chemistry and they don’t feel like genuine lovers.
It feels more like they tolerate each other. Charlie and Vaggie never really talk to each other, most of Vaggie’s lines is just her mothering Charlie and Charlie not really extending that grace back to her. Even when they had a chance to have Charlie confront Vaggie (in an… incredibly OOC moment honestly) the show just sidesteps it and now they’re perfect and lovey dovey again.
Compare that to Pomni and Ragatha where Pomni goes up to Ragatha and tells her that she appreciates everything she does for her, a scene that’s weirdly missing for Charlie to Vaggie. Also you know, Ragatha’s obsession with seeming motherly is portrayed as an endearing character flaw
They're both such vibrant, believable characters and their relationship is playing out so naturally! It's wonderful to see!
Also, I love the way Pomni is never outright shamed by the narrative for not appreciating Ragatha's efforts...that is, there's never a moment like in HH/HB where someone berates her for it. She was just too set in survival mode to even think about it, and when she hears Kinger's advice about never making someone feel unloved, it's general advice and says more about her that the first place her mind goes is Ragatha.

Sending an ask because then I'll get more space to YELL ABOUT HACKS!!!!!!!!!
Why did the firing scene make you cry? Well, that's probably due to 1) the acting, and 2) the writing. The acting is pretty simple in terms of why it's good. Jean and Hannah have a natural chemistry and they're very close IRL, so Hannah bringing the tears and Jean smiling wanly is just ~them~ being attached to each other and that energy transferring to the screen. The writing, on the other hand, is quite phenomenal. The script for that episode is here. But it's more than just 208 that's been written extremely well. The whole arc of both Ava and Deb throughout both seasons takes us and them through a series of extreme highs and heavy lows and general 'getting to know you' phases of friendships/relationships (whichever is your preference--I personally don't ship them and I'm the only person I know of who doesn't). We're learning about Ava and Deb as they're learning about each other, so we're getting attached to them too. We see the lost innocence in both of their stories and the trust they come to have in each other, I would argue equally so though most people consider Deb as having more trust in Ava because of her status and lengthy career. That makes sense when you look at it from that angle specifically, but they're both instilling a fuck load of trust in each other. Ava basically makes Deb her entire life for the better part of a year and doesn't question it. She trusts Deb to take care of her even though she's suing her. In the end, Deb drops the suit--as she was always going to do because she cares about Ava too much to actually fuck up her life. The suit was more of a playful nagging if anything. A very expensive playful nagging, but nothing more than a backhanded promise to keep Ava close by any and all means necessary.
SOOOO when Deb drops that bomb on the balcony and insists that Ava leave, we the audience are thrown the same question of 'why?' Why 'keep her close keep her close keep her close' and then '*poof* be gone!'???? Ava makes an excellent point of Deb doing this because she's afraid. She is. She's extremely afraid because she's also in the midst of healing and doesn't know it. She doesn't know what that cluster of emotions is and she doesn't know what to do with it, so she turns the person who's brought it into her life away in the hopes of getting rid of it. Deb will find out things don't work that way, and she'll want Ava back in her life to help her figure her shit out beeecause she trusts her.
As for why Ava cries and then watches the QVC segment to see Deb again, and is genuinely upset she isn't being sued anymore, my theory is Ava's been shown kindness, support, trust and love by a woman who isn't her peer for the first time and doesn't want that to end. There's an Electra complex argument to be made there, of fucking course, but I think it goes far deeper than any type of attraction, Freudian or otherwise. (I make that argument in Ch 5 of my fic, actually. No pressure to read it.) Looking at all the shit talking/over-reacting Nina does, it's easy to see why Deb showing Ava sympathy when she's scattering Dennis' ashes at the Grand Canyon, telling Ava she's too good to stop writing, giving Ava credit on her special and so forth are things Ava wants to continue to see come her way. Ava is one bad script away from Nina having to euthanize Mr. Creampie, and she knows this. Deb has been her savior in a lot of ways, and having to be on her own is scary because existing as a person was so much easier when she was with Deb; she had a fellow lonely soul to talk to and laugh with. (I make that argument in Ch 20. Btw, I posted that entire fic before S2 was promoted, so the look Ava gives Deb after she makes the joke land in 206? I predicted that.)
There's a human connection made between the two of them, and then it's broken. And since we've gotten to know them as a duo and individually, we see how much better they are for having been in each other's lives for a short while, and we know they could be even more positively influenced if they remained. When they're broken up, we mourn what could have/should have/would have been. Maybe we see a parallel in our own lives. Maybe we mourn an absence of that type of kinship. Maybe we have hope for reconciliation or maybe we accept their ending, but either way it's left a mark on us. That's not how things should end. Things shouldn't be ambiguous. We as humans have a primal need for closure, and Ava and Deb didn't get closure. Ava searches for answers in Deb's face, Deb goes back to life on autopilot like Ava was never there at all, and we're left wondering why. It's very gray. Very open-ended. And that's torture to the human psyche.
So we cry! Because it's sad! It's fucking sad!!! And that's okay. <3
I'm not ashamed to tell you I bawled like a grieving mother when 'Goodbye Stranger' started playing. I have my reaction on tape. JPL saw it, too! (a mild fuck you to all three of them for making me cry)
Just want to share this ask because so many great points were made. You’re totally right, ofc. Phenomenal acting, phenomenal writing, great growth for both characters. And I’m so, so excited to check out the script!

Do you have a specific lyric or quote which you associate with your OC?
What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express?
-tommy
I associate Ivanka with like 90% of the songs in the Electra Heart album by Marina and the Diamonds, but specifically a line from Primadonna Girl (which is what the url for this blog was named after). The quote is "You say that I'm kinda difficult, but it's always someone else's fault."
Ivanka is very bad at processing grief, since she's so self-centered that getting attached to people is uncomfortable, and losing those few people is incomprehensible to her.
She's even worse at expressing real, unadulterated glee. Instead of just smiling or flapping her hands a little like a normal person, Ivanka will throw big and reckless parties to celebrate whatever's pleased her this time.
