My problem with star trek species redesigns is people always redesign the wrong ones. Ferengi? Cardassians? Vorta? Some of the most interesting aliens in the show and for some reason I keep seeing redesigns of them. You know who really needs a redesign? Betazoids and El-Aurians. Truly the most boring alien designs in all of Trek. Trill and Bajorans too, but I have seen a few redesigns of them, though I always wanna see more. Give me more redesigned Betazoids and El-Aurians!

when i was a kid i was really REALLY into fantasy books and comics but interestingly ive noticed as an adult im like. too picky about it? i still read and love a lot of fantasy fiction but while when i was a kid i loved it because of the fantasy worldbuilding but as an adult, 99% i like it Despite it all LOL like ive noticed i prefer most fantasy stories to not dwell too much on magic systems or whatever because i just dont care EXCEPT

except. recently i have discovered that actually i do really like fantasy, low or high, soft or hard, but you need one thing. you need your main character to really REALLY care about some hyperspecific aspect of your fantasy worldbuilding and make it the foundation of the story's scenarios:

either make them autistic and really into monsters or magic or whatever (a certain tasty dungeoning manga that i have been reading recently has taught me this) OR

make them a fucking business major and do real life financial stock market bullshit but like. in fantasy medieval times with wolf goddesses (spice and wolf <3)

Senshi: "So that benadryl would lure the Hat Man to us, and give us a chance to fight it? That will be tough. Sounds like we will have to kill, cook and eat it all before the medicine wears off if it will lose tangibility otherwise."

Laois: "That's it! If we need only one or two of us to kill the Hat Man, then the rest can be dosed up only right before the meal is done cooking."

Senshi: "There's one problem with that. Dwarves are basically immune to any tallmen drug that isn't prescription strength. I'll need half the bottle just to have enough time to eat the meal. Chilchuck, you'll be able to use it the most efficiently because of how little you weigh. I can make sure that the fire is ready, but you'll have to fight the Hat Man alone and dose Marcille afterwards to help you with the cooking prep. Laios and I shouldn't risk taking more than needed just to eat."

Chilchuck: "ARE YOU CRAZY?! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THE HAT MAN IS REAL! And I don't do the fighting in this group! There's NO WAY that-"

i see the sleep doctor today!! hopefully he's as respectful as my pcp and actually takes me seriously. especially because i filled out the new patient forms based on how i feel now that i'm sleeping in a way that feels normal, and because some doctors get really pissy when you have your own theories on what's going on with you i worry that he'll disregard it completely and make me start from square one. I don't mind documenting the way i sleep currently to back up the N24 theory but if he tries to make me go back on a 24 hour sleep cycle and wait to see how much i feel like shit when doing that before medicating me, seeing that i feel even worse actually, and THEN considering other theories..... honestly i'd rather just see someone else. if there's really no way around it i suppose i could do it just to get it done and over with but he could literally just talk to my pcp and hear from her just how much my sleep has been a problem for the past year or two alone rather than making me suffer. i'm not gonna play games like that as if i'm an idiot just because i don't have a medical license

I think, and kind of want to do a poll about it, that some of us mean something a bit broader when we say “spicy.” Like I absolutely have White People Palate im not denying that, but either there are some compounds that just hit some of our tongues differently like the cilantro soap gene, and/or a lot of people specifically identify “feeling of capsaicin” as spice and not other spicy compounds. It's so cool to see CRK getting popular again, it feels so refreshing like so much new quality fan content dropping that we couldn't even DREAM about a couple of months ago, but it hurts my very soul seeing new players being interested in beast x ancient ships, in their dynamics, asking is it okay to ship it and getting slapped in the face with another "IT'S ABUSER X VICTIM IT'S A PROSHIP IT'S A DARKSHIP" (which is just not true) killing off all the fun, bc apparently enemies to lovers, AUs and what-ifs doesn't exist anymore and everything that isn't pure fluff is illegal now. "IT'S NOT ENEMIES TO LOVERS, BEASTS ABUSED AND TORTURED THEM" yeah THAT'S WHAT ENEMIES DO??? What else do you expect from a villain honestly??? Like in ANY media??? So... I make cobbler all the time. It's a standard dessert around here. I prep lots of different fruit fillings during the summer, and then I either can or freeze them for use later on. If you come over for dinner, it's almost guaranteed we're gonna have either some kind of trifle or a cobbler for dessert. My family has gotten used to all of the many variations, including dark chocolate topping on a strawberry cobbler and stuff like that.

All of this to say that when we had my cousin, my brother, and his partner over for dinner the other night, I made apple cobbler, but I added something that I was particularly proud of: I got candied ginger from Penzey's with our last spice restock, and I ran a generous handful of the ginger through the food processor so it was much smaller bits, then mixed it in with the crust. I left it big enough that you can tell when you bite into it, but not big enough that when you get a chunk, that's all you taste.

Everybody's used to my experiments by now, but this got absolute rave reviews. My daughter called it "inspired."

I've been floating on having a baking idea I had called "inspired" for days.

in general, the stark difference between the people who clearly know the scenes and the actual lines from the show and the people who either don't know or don't care, and the way wayne has to roll with it and constantly shift between both styles

as one of the youtube comments put it, the way walt's agency is downplayed by the railroading of the plot and the way his most heinous acts (letting jane die, poisoning brock, etc.) are largely skipped over make many moments where characters turn on walt and attack him feel comically unprovoked, which makes it feel like the version of the story walt would tell to make himself look better

the fact that they made "drives an el camino" at least 70% of skinny pete's personality

the sudden extreme yellow filter that appears when they cross over the clearly marked mexico border
