The original "medicine men" in history were actually women. Briffault writes on this subject, "The connection of women with the cultivation of the soil and the search for edible vegetables and roots made them specialists in botanical knowledge, which, among primitive peoples, is extraordinarily extensive. They became acquainted with the properties of herbs, and were thus the first doctors." He adds:
The word "medicine" is derived from a root meaning "knowledge" or "wisdom" - the wisdom of the 'wise woman." The name of Medea, the medical herbalist witch, comes from the same root.... "The secret of the witch," said an Ogowe native, "is knowing the plants that produce certain effects, and knowing how to compound and use the plants in order to bring about the desired result; and this is the sum and essence of witchcraft." In the Congo it is noted that woman doctors specialise in the use of drugs and herbal pharmacy. In Ashanti the medicine women are "generally preferred for medical aid, as they possess a thorough knowledge of barks and herbs." In East Africa "there are as many women physicians as men." (The Mothers, vol. I, p. 486)
Dan McKenzie, in The Infancy of Medicine (1927), lists hundreds of ancient remedies, some of which are still in use without alteration, while others have been only slightly improved upon. Among these are substances used for their narcotic properties. A fleeting review indicates the astounding scope of these medicinal products. Useful properties were developed from acacia, alcohol, almond, asafetida, balsam, betel, caffeine, camphor, caraway, chaulmoogra oil (a leprosy remedy), digitalis, gum barley water, lavender, linseed, parsley, pepper, pine tar, pomegranate, poppy, rhubarb, senega, sugar, turpentine, wormwood, and hundreds more. These came from regions all over the globe-South America, North America, Africa, China, Europe, Egypt, etc. Not only vegetable but animal substances were made into remedies; snake venom, for example, was converted into a serum to be used for snake bites, the equivalent of today's antivenin.
According to Marston Bates, very little had been added to this remarkable ancient collection of medicine, until the discoveries of sulfa and antibiotics. "How primitive man discovered the ways of extracting, preparing and using all of these drugs, poisons and foods, remains one of the great mysteries of human prehistory," he writes (The Forest and the Sea, p. 126). But it is not so mysterious when we look in the direction of the female sex and become acquainted with the hard work, vast experience, and nimble wits of primitive womankind, preoccupied with every aspect of group survival.
Not only medicine but the rudiments of various other sciences grew up side by side with the craft and know-how of women. Childe points out that to convert flour into bread requires a knowledge of biochemistry and the use of the yeast microorganism. This substance also led to the production of fermented liquors and beer. Childe also gives credit to women for "the chemistry of potmaking, the physics of spinning, the mechanies of the loom, and the botany of flax and cotton" (What Happened in History, p. 59).

This is Doctor Casper Darling, formerly of the Federal Bureau of Control. I think this signal is coming through now, are you receiving me?
Something shifted, the previously observed interference disrupting my broadcast is gone. A fluctuation in gravitational forces. Either something moved out of the way, or my relative position to it changed the alignment, and or the condition of this whole plane spiraled to a more favorable position.
The ordinary rules of reality do not apply here. The best I can describe this place is as a dreamscape. But who is the dreamer?
And how do you wake up from this dream?

i found out something about medusa that i think almost no one know about
You probably know that ovid changed the origins of medusa that she was a normal woman and was raped by Poseidon in athena's temple and she was cursed by athena. Of course this wasn't the case in the actual ancient greece, since it was actually said in the theogony that she was a monster from birth, but there's this thing: Ovid did invent the rape, yes, but he wasn't the 1st one that made medusa being cursed by athena. There was this other greek author named apollodorus, or pseudo-apollodorus, in his Bibliotheca, that in his collections of greek myths he writes that indeed, medusa was cursed by athena, but it wasn't because of a rape or forbidden romance, it was because medusa was a very vain woman who like to brag about her beauty and hair, and had the foolish idea of saying that her hair looked betten than athena.
Yeah this is why I can never take the “Athena was actually blessing Medusa!” Thing seriously, every single version of them from Greek to Roman are against each other. The only woman who blessed Medusa with her monsterous appearance is her mother Ceto who is really slept on.
Like if ppl want myths where Athena is nice and protective of women there are plenty of those (but the Athena antis don’t want you to know that lol), did y’all know that Athena, Artemis and Persephone were childhood friends? Did you know that she helped 50 princesses (the Danaides) escape from forced marriage and then helped purify them from murdering their husbands?

For Eternity - Small Hours
“Is she asleep as she should be?” Gaia asked the nanny as she stepped out of the room.
“Oh the girl is as stubborn as ever!” The nanny griped, stomping a hoof. “She INSISTED on staying awake until you returned! No wonder she hasn't healed from her ailment yet!”
The monarch smiled warmly. “I figured as much. You are excused, Madam Throw. I shall put her to bed.”
Gaia tapped on the doors three times, then gently pushed them open. “Proving your mischief once again, Little Serene Remedy? You ought to know better by now!”
“Eve!” The filly on the bed exclaimed, kicking her hooves under the covers in eagerness. “Gosh! You took FOREVER! What did that Oracle pony have to say?? Are you going on a grand dangerous quest? If so, can I come?!”
“Oh I wouldn't think somepony in your condition would make such a journey if there was one. Little fillies like you are already long asleep.” Gaia calmly lectured, dragging the blanket back over Remedy.
“Isn't that what you love most about me?” Remedy tilted her head curiously. “That I'm not like most other fillies?” she kicked the blanket back off.
Gaia giggled “Well, absolutely! But you're also notorious for these sick bouts, and you need your rest.” This time the monarch tucked the comforter under the mattress.
Remedy groaned. “Awwww! I can't sleep now! You GOTTA tell me what the Oracle pony said!”
“That can all wait until tomorrow, young lady.” Gaia scolded, turning to pick up a small bottle. “Now, I see you have not taken your medicine yet.”
The filly scrambled under the covers. “Noooooo!”
“Come now. Do you enjoy feeling so under the weather?”
“....no.”
“Then be a big girl and come out.”
“....fine.” Remedy obeyed, crawling back up.
Gaia took a spoon, and floated it over to the filly. “Say ‘aaaaaaaaah’!” She made a silly face.
“.....aaaaaaaa–EUGH!” Remedy soured. She locked her own mouth shut with great effort, trying hard to not spit it out.
Gaia shook her head. “Such a dramatic filly. What are we going to do with you? Now get some rest.”
“Eve, wait.” Remedy grabbed at her hoof on the bed. “Can you tell me what the Oracle pony looked like at least? Were they super mysterious?”
The older pondered. “Well…yes. They were. But they were no pony.”
“Huh?”
“It was an Abyssinian Catfolk.” Gaia explained.
The little filly’s eyes sparkled in intrigue. “A catfolk?! How tall were they? You can't leave with just that!”
Gaia sighed. “I shall tell you all the details at the crack of dawn. Is that a good middle ground?”
Remedy pondered. “I suppose that's fair…can we walk in the garden? I want to see the flowers bloom.”
The monarch chuckled. “Sounds wonderful.”
——————————
Queen Gaia Eve spent the rest of her night on her balcony, motionless and waiting for the sun to rise, wondering if it really might be for the last time one day soon.
“It's funny to hear how the life you know will end. It was so ominous, so mysterious, so vague….” She wondered to herself.
Not a day went by as the years rolled on the Oracle's message didn't ring in her head.
But she couldn't let it dwindle for long inside
Gaia had her royal duties to carry out.
Little Remedy grew up fast--before Gaia knew it she made plans to travel.
But Gaia stayed here in the castle….awaiting her future.

In plain sight for Than? :D
coming right up! (from this ask game!)
In Plain Sight - Thanatos does everything to hide his cold. Nothing gets past the Archfey, though.
Than felt awful.
It wasn't the usual ache of his soulstitching or the pounding headache of a bad hangover or even the bone-deep pain of healing a grievous wound and being low on blood. He couldn't remember the last time he felt like this: his head felt as if it were stuffed with cotton, each painful swallow sent a wave of despair welling up inside him, and he couldn't even think about eating, his stomach was roiling within him. Had he been somehow poisoned?
"Thanatos." He jumped, having forgotten the Archfey was even in the room. Ae was very close, suddenly, aer face inches from his own as ae leaned over the book handing listlessly from his hands.
"What-- ahem. What is it, my love?" He'd had to choke down a coughing fit. He hoped ae didn't notice, ae fretted so much when there was even the vaguest implication he was unwell.
"Your breathing has altered since yesterday. At first, I had thought it was a natural variation but no. Your soulsong is dissonant. You are in pain." Of course. It didn't matter what he did, Rea could see right through him.
A man could try, though. "I'm fine, Rea, just a bit tired. A day in will sort me out."
His lover's eyes narrowed. "I do not believe you, my love."
"W-well, it's… true…" This wasn't going to work.
"It is not. Either tell me what is wrong and how to help you, or I shall cast healing magic on you." That was a threat, the burst of light magic would definitely cleanse whatever this was, but the reaction with his contract would put him out of commission for two days.
Nothing for it, then. "Just a glass of wine with cinnamon and honey, the good stuff, not that modern swill. That should put me right enough." And if it didn't, he'd be drunk, and wouldn't notice.
The Archfey smiled. "A 400 BCE red, excellent choice. I shall have it for you momentarily." Really, aer presence was the best cure of all.

Moringa Powder’s Historical Uses: From Ancient Egypt to Modern Wellness
Tumblr media
Moringa powder has earned its place in the wellness world in recent years. Revered for its nutrient-packed profile and countless health benefits, Moringa is often referred to as a "superfood" and a "miracle tree." However, what many don’t know is that Moringa has a long, fascinating history that spans centuries, crossing continents from Ancient Egypt to modern-day wellness. In this blog, we will explore the historical uses of Moringa powder, how it was cherished by ancient civilizations, and how it continues to thrive in the modern wellness movement.
Moringa in Ancient Egypt
Moringa’s roots trace back thousands of years, and one of the earliest civilizations to recognize its immense value was Ancient Egypt. The Egyptians, renowned for their sophisticated understanding of health, wellness, and beauty, incorporated Moringa into their daily lives in various ways. The plant was not only utilized for its medicinal properties but also revered for its ability to enhance beauty and radiance. Moringa was so significant to Egyptian culture that it was integrated into both their health practices and cosmetic routines, with its oil being used in skincare and its leaves providing nutritional and therapeutic benefits.
Medicinal Use in Ancient Egypt
The ancient Egyptians were among the first to recognize and harness the healing properties of Moringa, incorporating it into their daily lives in multiple ways. The plant's leaves, seeds, and oil were highly valued for their medicinal properties, making it a versatile natural remedy. Moringa was often used to treat common ailments like inflammation, infections, and digestive issues. The leaves, rich in vitamins and minerals, were particularly prized for their ability to nourish the body. Vitamin A, essential for maintaining healthy vision and skin, and vitamin C, renowned for its immune-boosting benefits, made Moringa a powerful natural supplement for overall health.
Beyond its medicinal use, the Egyptians also discovered Moringa's ability to purify water. The seeds, when crushed, release compounds that helped remove harmful impurities from water, making it safe for drinking. In an arid climate where access to clean water was scarce, this natural filtration method was vital for survival. Moringa’s antibacterial properties further contributed to its significance, helping Egyptians maintain their health in a time before the advent of modern sanitation systems.
Beauty and Skincare in Ancient Egypt
Perhaps one of the most enduring uses of Moringa in Ancient Egypt was in skincare. Moringa oil, derived from the seeds of the tree, became highly valued for its moisturizing and anti-aging properties. Egyptians used it as a beauty oil, applying it to their skin and hair to promote a youthful glow. The oil was also used in perfumes and cosmetics, as it has a pleasant, mild scent and is easily absorbed by the skin.
Moringa oil’s ability to hydrate and nourish skin, along with its antioxidant-rich profile, made it an essential part of the beauty regimen for Egyptian royalty. Cleopatra, renowned for her beauty, is believed to have used Moringa oil as part of her skincare routine to maintain her radiant complexion.
Moringa was also an important part of religious practices in ancient Egypt, where it was used in offerings to the gods. Its healing properties and association with purity made it a revered plant in the Egyptian spiritual worldview. The significance of Moringa in these rituals speaks to its symbolic value and the belief that it was a gift from the gods themselves.
Moringa in Other Ancient Civilizations
While Ancient Egypt was one of the first to embrace Moringa, its influence spread to many other cultures around the world. In India and Africa, Moringa became integral to traditional medicine, nourishment, and beauty routines.
India and Ayurveda
In India, Moringa has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for over 5,000 years. Known as the "drumstick tree" due to the shape of its pods, Moringa was used in Ayurvedic treatments to balance the body’s doshas (the energies believed to govern physical and mental health). Moringa leaves, bark, and seeds were all utilized in Ayurvedic practices to treat conditions such as arthritis, digestive issues, and skin conditions.
Moringa was highly regarded in Ayurveda for its detoxifying effects, particularly the leaves, which are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. In fact, Moringa is believed to promote better digestion, clear toxins from the body, and strengthen the immune system. Its use in Ayurveda has only grown with time, and today Moringa continues to be a central component in holistic health practices.
Moringa in African Traditions
Moringa has been a vital part of African traditional medicine for centuries. Across various African cultures, the tree is often referred to as the "miracle tree" due to its ability to thrive in harsh climates and its many health benefits. The leaves, seeds, and roots of the Moringa tree were used to treat a wide range of ailments, from malnutrition to fever.
In many African countries, Moringa was consumed to combat food insecurity. Its high nutritional content made it an ideal supplement to help fight malnutrition, particularly in rural areas where food resources were scarce. Moringa leaves are packed with vitamins, minerals, and protein, making them an excellent source of nutrition for those in need.
The plant's leaves were often used in soups, stews, and other dishes to add flavor and boost nutritional value. Moringa’s ability to improve energy levels and strengthen the immune system made it a staple in African households.
The Rise of Moringa in Modern Times
Moringa has undergone a remarkable transformation in modern times, evolving from a revered ancient healing plant to a global wellness trend. With its rich array of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, Moringa has solidified its place in the spotlight as a versatile superfood. As consumers increasingly seek natural and plant-based solutions for overall health, Moringa’s numerous health benefits—ranging from boosting energy levels to supporting immune function—have made it a popular addition to a variety of products. From smoothies and supplements to skincare, Moringa is now widely embraced for its powerful nutritional profile and holistic health advantages, making it a wellness staple.
Moringa in the 21st Century Wellness Movement
In recent years, Moringa has been embraced by the global wellness community as an essential ingredient in health-conscious diets. As more people seek out natural, plant-based supplements to support their health, Moringa powder has gained recognition for its impressive nutrient content. Pura Vida, a brand dedicated to wellness, incorporates Moringa powder into its products, allowing modern consumers to experience the benefits of this ancient plant in a convenient and accessible form.
Moringa’s rich profile includes vitamins A, C, and E, which promote skin health, immunity, and cell regeneration. It also contains minerals like calcium, iron, and potassium, which are essential for bone health, energy levels, and cardiovascular function. Furthermore, Moringa is known for its powerful antioxidants, which help protect the body from oxidative stress and free radical damage.
As the wellness movement continues to grow, Moringa has become a popular addition to smoothies, protein powders, and herbal teas. Its mild, earthy flavor makes it an easy and nutritious ingredient to incorporate into a variety of dishes.
Scientific Recognition of Moringa’s Benefits
Modern science has begun to catch up with the ancient knowledge of Moringa’s healing properties. Researchers have studied the plant’s nutritional content and its therapeutic potential, confirming its long-standing reputation as a powerful medicinal herb.
Studies have shown that Moringa has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. These benefits make Moringa an effective tool for managing conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, Moringa has been found to help regulate blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol, making it a promising natural remedy for heart health and diabetes management.
As scientific evidence continues to mount in support of Moringa’s health benefits, the plant’s popularity is expected to grow. People are increasingly turning to natural, plant-based supplements to enhance their well-being, and Moringa is becoming a go-to ingredient for those seeking holistic health solutions.
Moringa in Beauty and Skincare
Moringa’s beauty benefits are as profound as its medicinal ones, with both ancient and modern cultures using the plant to nourish the skin and hair. Today, Moringa oil is a staple in the beauty industry, thanks to its rich nutrient profile and ability to promote healthy, glowing skin.
Ancient Beauty Rituals
In Ancient Egypt, Moringa oil was used as a luxurious skincare product, revered for its ability to hydrate and restore youthful radiance to the skin. The oil was rich in oleic acid, a fatty acid that deeply moisturizes the skin and helps maintain its elasticity. The antioxidants found in Moringa oil helped fight the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines, making it a coveted beauty ingredient for Egyptian royalty.
Moringa’s high content of vitamins A and C also made it an effective remedy for blemishes, uneven skin tone, and dry skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties helped calm irritated skin, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin or conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Modern Beauty Benefits
Today, Moringa continues to be used in modern skincare products, from facial oils and moisturizers to soaps and cleansers. Its antioxidant-rich profile makes it a powerful anti-aging ingredient, helping to fight free radicals that can cause premature aging.
Moringa oil is often used in products aimed at restoring the skin's natural radiance and firmness. It is also used in hair care products to nourish and hydrate dry, damaged hair. The oil’s ability to promote hair growth and strengthen strands has made it a popular ingredient in shampoos and conditioners.
Sustainability and the Future of Moringa
Moringa’s future looks bright, not only because of its impressive health benefits but also due to its potential in sustainable agriculture and global wellness. Its ability to thrive in arid conditions and its relatively low water requirements make Moringa an ideal crop for regions impacted by drought and food insecurity. As the world faces increasing challenges related to climate change and resource scarcity, Moringa offers a resilient solution. Its fast growth, nutritional richness, and minimal environmental impact make it a valuable resource for communities in need of sustainable food sources and economic development, paving the way for a more secure future.
Moringa’s Role in Sustainable Agriculture
Moringa is often referred to as the "tree of life" because of its many uses and its role in sustainable agriculture. As the world faces challenges related to climate change and food security, Moringa offers a viable solution. The plant thrives in harsh environments, making it an important crop for regions where traditional agriculture is difficult.
In many developing countries, Moringa is seen as a way to combat malnutrition, as its leaves are rich in essential nutrients. By planting Moringa trees, communities can improve their access to affordable, nutritious food, helping to combat hunger and support local economies.
Moringa in the Global Wellness Industry
The global wellness industry has embraced Moringa as a natural, plant-based supplement that promotes overall health and vitality. As consumers become more conscious of their health and the environment, Moringa’s sustainability and nutritional benefits make it an attractive option.
The future of Moringa looks promising, with growing demand for both its medicinal and beauty benefits. As more people discover its healing properties, Moringa is poised to become a staple in wellness routines worldwide.
