A brief astronomy lesson on Toril's night sky and what it looks like if your characters are looking at it and writing poetry or something, as I got distracted again. I mean the Spelljammer supplement would probably be a better source, but I'm only planning on being momentarily distracted.

The night sky, and space itself is the Sea of Night.

Solar eclipses, happen, like, every week or something:

Selûne's orbit around Toril is almost in the same plane as Toril’s orbit around its sun, so solar and lunar eclipses are frequent. Solar eclipses are never annular (the sun's edge cannot be seen during totality) and almost never partial, because Selûne's shadow on Toril and Toril's shadow on Selûne are quite large. Eclipses are thus spectacular but rather commonplace. Inhabitants of any particular land do not always notice such eclipses, since the rising and setting times for Selûne wander across the calendar. Solar eclipses might briefly cause nocturnal beings to awaken, but they quickly return to sleep once daylight returns. - Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting

Rather than telescopes, most astrological observations come from spellcasters using scrying magic. I'm pretty sure I remember telescopes being mentioned, but even if they exist I guess divination magic is probably going to give better images.

The moon (Selûne) is big enough that you can usually see it in the daytime. The lunar phase takes 'thirty days, ten hours, and thirty minutes' to wax and wane (and presumably has more phases?). The Calendar of Harptos is deliberately constructed so that every month starts with a full moon, 'give or take a day or so.' Also new year is always marked by a full moon at midnight (hence the Feast of the Moon). We've also got the Tears of Selûne in orbit behind the moon,

The Tears act like any such bodies in a Trojan point, meaning that they do not stay in place but actually orbit around a common center in whirlpool fashion. Viewed from above, the Tears appear to be a very large disk of hundreds of assorted bodies, none of any remarkable size. Тһе Tears are visible as points of light like stars, too small for viewers to discern their actual shapes. The individual orbits of the Tears are not exactly coplanar with the orbit of Toril and Selûne, but they are close. As a result, their appearance in the night sky of Toril is that of a flattened ellipse of bright stars," trailing Selûne by sixty degrees across the sky, along the ecliptic.

And should anybody be writing something that involves characters observing the twilight hours:

The beginning of sunrise and the moment immediately after sunset are marked by two stars becoming visible in the sky (actually planets with a closer orbit to the sun) called the Dawn Heralds and Evening Heralds to the average person (or Anadia and Coliar, to the space nerds). Coliar is the brighter of the two.

This story takes place 15-16 years after the departure, and eventual return of Atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy, answering open ended questions, wrapping up plots, and filling plotholes with a bit more than basic story putty. It also features new characters in an updated setting.

I drew these 2+ years ago and probably bit off more than I can chew trying to draw a full-art 200 page comic with how many ADHD hobbies I have. BUT!

I am planning to finish this. As a fanfic, with more updated concept art of the whole cast and the new sister city called Avalon.

Session 6 - Spelljammer

January 18th, 2025

Where did we leave off? Ah yes, the team is grappled with vines on the porch of a quaint forest cottage, face-to-face with an overly elegant Eladrin lounging on a sofa…Oh wait, that’s not a sofa…that’s an oversized bear!

The unknown fey lets them know they are unwelcome in no uncertain terms. After some completely unveiled threats, Gar talks him down and he lets the team go free under the condition they don’t say anything about finding him.

While being escorted out of the forest by the two bears, Stew decides to be cheeky and drops the communication acorn provided by the fey that hired them. The acorn, being smooshed into the dirt, immediately sprouts a giant redwood tree, much to the chagrin of their new friend. Despite his best efforts to stop it, the tree continues to grow, emitting golden light and the soft music of another realm. Needless to say, he’s pretty miffed with the crew and orders his bear companions, Martha and Brutus, to attack. 

Frank makes eye contact with Martha and something awakens in him. 

Gar and Frank grease up and blind the bears, not necessarily in that order. After some more punches, Martha is knocked prone. Stew uses this opportunity to peer down into her eyes and devour her mind. He learns that the fey is indeed the missing brother, Emerald of the Seelie Court. He can see vague memories of Emerald creating Martha and of doing other bear stuff. 

Did you forget about that tree? Well don’t, because a door has appeared on its face, kept closed only by the tendrils of Emerald’s vines and his sheer force of magic will. Reaching exhaustion, Gar is able to get him to talk. The crew learns that Emerald was not kidnapped, as his family thought. He faked his capture in order to get away from his family. Turns out that being stuck behind walls for 9 months of the year, only being allowed out during Spring, is pretty miserable. And his mother, Titania, seems a bit overbearing.

The team decided to help him, as long as they can find a way to keep Spring coming each year while also making it so he doesn’t have to go home. They convince him to talk to his mom to negotiate and then come with them. They intend to find him a new dead world to make green and pretty. 

In exchange for their help, the teams wants a radish recipe, a seasonal gift, and a tiny bear (We’ll get to that later).

The team chops down the giant tree, severing the tie to the Seelie court. They are spared from immediate danger, but need to get back to the ship and away as soon as possible.

Emerald heals Martha and Brutus and he makes them king and queen of the asteroid. They become even more giant, Emerald’s golden handprint stamped on their foreheads, and walk into the forest, a trail of flowers in their wake.

Stew gets 50lbs of radishes. 

The captain isn’t exactly excited about taking a super powerful fey prince onto his ship, but the crew convinces him to do it anyway. They fly to the other side of Anadia to contact the fey court via magical water bowl. Once the connection has been made, they will need to make a speedy getaway.

And, now for the tiny bear. While they travel, Emerald makes a bear out of a 5lb slab of beef, per Frank’s request. Frank gives the new creature to Frank Jr and Frank Jr names it Frank Jr Jr. There is a tiny hat and saddle involved.

Stew asks Emerald if there is anything he likes to eat. He says he misses Elvin shortbread. Stew tells him he will make him shortbread if he will teach him the recipe.

They arrive to the other side of the planet and Emerald calls home. Gar and Knyle hide, so as not to be seen by the Seelie Court through the magic water bowl. The water clears to show a golden building in the middle of a massive forest with two suns in the sky. Within the throne room are Emerald’s three siblings. Emerald girds his loins and tells them he will not be coming home until it is his season. And if mom has a problem, she can come find him.

Once the connection is severed, the captain gets the ship moving again. The crew asks Wangye to look for a dead planet on the star map that they can drop Emerald off on.

Gar asks for a doorway to the rock of Bral. The seasonal gift, which Stew has been so adamant about asking for, will be given once we find a planet for him.

Has the team gotten too involved in this fey family drama? Does the newest crew member, our tiny bear friend Frank Jr Jr, have a soul? What is Stew going to do with 50lbs of radishes? Tune in next week!
