Occasionally my mother's family betrays in weird slight ways that they don't really think of my bio father's mother as white despite her powerful Old White Lady energy. My grandmother is Greek-American and most of the time people here seem to regard this as ... vaguely ethnic, but then out of nowhere my mother's family will start talking like, "oh, your grandmother's family didn't like her marrying your grandfather? I guess it's because he was white, right?"

(Obviously this is not serious suffering in the USA in 2024 and both my grandmother and I experience standard white privilege an overwhelming majority of the time. But people who aren't even that old going full WASP about my grandmother and my father and his family is a very strange experience, like being suddenly ported into JD Vance's brain or something.)

Yeah they're still kicking got my cheapo little phone from them two years ago and it's still going strong - the Dublin new York portal has to have been one of the stupidest ideas like new York and Dublin aren't exactly known for their sane people they should have put the Irish portal in one of those little villages that has like a church, a school and a pub and that's it and the American portal in what ever the equivalent of that is in American

This concept has been used before, but basically these “portals” are put up between two cities. It livestreams what’s happening in front of it to the other city’s portal, and vice versa. It’s supposed to be a cute thing where humanity gets to connect from across the world… and they chose Dublin to do this…

They really underestimated how little Dubliners give a fuck about these things, unless it’s to mess around. As well as how much we’re not fascinated by the US in the same way Americans are about Ireland. Honestly I’m loving how this is breaking down the stereotypes about Irish people (or Dubliners) are “quaint” and “sheltered” and “wholesome” and “fascinated by the big modern world of America”.

Day one a woman in Dublin was arrested for being drunk/ high and messing with the portal. The American side has people waving and being friendly, the Dublin side has people sticking up their middle finger, jeering, and mooning (showing their ass).
