I wanted to respond to this post & tags by @mdeitrick13, after I saw @fishjellylou's response here.
I HATE book!film!Louis. It's actually a very popular opinion, esp. wrt film!Louis--there's a lot to hate, without ever getting into morality politics--from his plethora of stupid life choices, to his hypocrisy, to his whiny attitude, etc. And wrt to pimps & slavery specifically, we can get into all the ways owning & controlling people's bodies, freedom, & autonomy/agency is effed up. But where exactly does LOUIS exhibit any of that behavior towards Armand--book, film, and esp. on the show??? 🤔
Almighty all-powerful all-gifted uber-privileged vamps can get away with literal murder: Lestat can spitefully beat the hell out of Lou, Armand can sadistically torture HUMAN!Daniel, the coven can gleefully kill Claudia & Madeleine (who literally did nothing), Armand can petulantly drive the mentally ill (Nicki & Louis) to suicide--but disenfranchised weak AF desperate HUMAN!Black Louis is "worse" than all of the vamps, cuz he was a pimp who tried navigating the crap hand he'd been dealt the most effective way he could? 🤨🤨🤨
What did Louis do as a human pimp that makes him so much "worse" as a person than Armand is? Since when does AMC/the show or Lou absolve himself of guilt for being a pimp OR a vampire? In Lou's eyes, evil is evil, and he doesn't give vampires a pass AT ALL--eff all the "biological imperatives" Rashid was simpering about. Since when are demonic serial killing cannibals given a pass in the IWTV Morality Olympics, over prostitution? Cuz prostitution & vampirism BOTH exploit human vulnerability & weakness & bodies, and by the show's logic, one is no better or worse than the other--ALL vampires on this show are COMPLICIT as predators feeding off the lives & miseries of humans. Santiago only used the stupid "vampires are monsters" excuse to justify his personally-motivated vendetta to kill Louis, dismissing Lou's experiences to absolve Lestat's flagrant abuse of power against the man he claimed to love whom he knew was weaker than him and thus intentionally "broke."
The whole point of show!Loumand's dynamic is right here:
ARMAND, the 400+ year old Coven Master, stalked & approached & invited & courted LOUIS. Louis never spoke or utilized his past as a pimp when they met. Armand knew Louis was afraid of him ("I thought he was going to kill me....I sensed his ancient power"), and he promised Louis (who'd suffered from SEVERE PTSD after the last older more powerful vampire broke every bone in his body), that he would never hurt Louis, "and I never have," LOL.
In ANY of Loumand's courtship, where does Louis having formerly been a pimp give him ANY advantage over Armand, or the coven? 🤔
Where does pimp!Louis factor in as the "gross" part of their meeting & courtship--when Lou explicitly told Armand & the whole coven that they were NOT companions, and that he had ZERO interest in Armand tryna RECRUIT Louis to join Armand's coven (*cough* CULT *cough*)? 🤔 Who's pimping whom in this situationship? 🤔
Esp. since Claudia's the one who was actually recruited, to try to lure LOUIS in as the one they REALLY wanted to join, so offended when Lou refused ("[Madeleine] must join or die."). They used the same Charles Manson-style cult tactics on Claudia AND Louis!
Rolin explicitly used Charles Manson music in 1x5, but y'all keep missing the links between Lestat & Armand's treatment of Louis & Claudia to talk about how Armand was groomed & abused--by WHOM?! Certainly not LOUIS! And here the tags go AGAIN tryna link Louis with Marius. 🤦♀️ (I cannot WAIT till y'all show-onlies actually see Marius in action, not just picking up crap from hearsay.)
Where is Louis the predator out to harm Armand? How is Armand the one being "grossly" threatened by Lou, pimp or otherwise? When did Louis rape Armand, or pimp him out, or "donate" him to someone else? For all Louis' claims that "he's mine" cuz Lou got to top someone who's not his Maker, how does Louis actually come out on top or benefit, being with Armand? 🤔
For all Armand's simpering about "Are you asking me or making me, Maitre?," where does Louis FORCE Armand to do ANYTHING? Louis states what he wants to do/happen (make Madeleine for Claudia; save Daniel from Armand killing him), and Lou gives Armand the CHOICE to do it it or not. Armand could've had the whole coven descend on Lou the night Lou made Madeleine (as we see in the movie, which clearly noticed the same thing)--instead, we learn that he was actually writing/rehearsing the Trial script the whole time jfc 💀💀💀. He could've snapped Daniel's neck, and what could crispety!Lou have done to stop him, hobbling around all burnt up? But he complies, cuz he'd already sabotaged Loustat's chance to get back together by not telling Lou that Les said he loved him; instead CHOOSING to stay with the man who literally just said he's bored & hates being with Armand & literally just tried to kill himself rather than be with Armand anymore--like WTF???? But ARMAND'S the one who's been in danger from Louis!? 🤣 THIS dude!?
OK, Lou was a pimp, but Armand was running the frikkin vampire MOB in Paris--a literal biker gang of Charles Manson sickos! An effing wet room full of offed "heretics and rule breakers" (inc NICKI, who was NEITHER--SUS!!!) buried in the frikkin walls of his torture-basement, but Lou's "worse" for being a HUMAN!hustler, when Armand's a whole cult-leading mobster his effing self!?
On top of the legit torture we see him do to HUMAN!Daniel, playing with his effing food worse than anything we saw Lestat pull in S1.
How does Lou having been a pimp protect him from Armand lying about "Banishment," or having his mind wiped for 77 years, or Armand going behind Lou's back to tear out Claudia's diary pages Lou didn't even know about, or Armand throwing Daniel (& Sam & the Talamasca) under the bus to keep gaslighting Lou about the script?
Where does Louis abuse Armand's trust, lying to control Armand's actions? When has Lou hobbled Armand's bodily autonomy, and the thing Armand can(not) physically do? When did Lou donate Armand to other people? Or act outside of Armand's boundaries/consent?)
The whole point of IWTV is to emphasize LOUIS' vulnerability, and how it's constantly exploited & abused by people more powerful than he is--from humans in NOLA & Romania/Eastern Europe, to vampires in Paris, and especially Lestat.
Armand knew immediately that Louis & Claudia were lying about Bruce being their Maker, cuz he's THE best vampire with the Mind Gift. He knew EVERYTHING, and told Louis to his face in 2x2 that Louis's a terrible liar who can't hide anything or keep secrets from him--just like the last older more powerful vampire read Louis' thoughts & used them to seduce him; "Come to me, Louis."
Armand & the whole coven were Europeans who'd never even met an American vamp before--but they knew Louis was a pimp from New Orleans with a whole failed sugar plantation--cuz they they read his mind; what Claudia explicitly called "invaded their thoughts." Santiago called them BOTH out in 2x3 (more subtly with Claudia but straight up explicitly with Louis, as someone whose mind they could all read way easier than hers).
It especially confuses me when show fans complain all about pimp!Louis being with Armand on the show; but make no noise about slaveowner!Louis being with Armand in the books? (Or they're against pedo!Marius being with Armand, but make no noise about pedo!Lestat being with Armand? Let alone Daniel (who, unlike Marius & Lestat, is NOT an Old World European vamp from a different time period with different morals/ethics), or any adult attracted to a 17 year old's body--including book!Louis?) People have shipped Loumand for decades, yet it's only once Lou's a pimp (amongst other things....) that people suddenly care about poor innocent Armand being abused by the evil thug jezebel who got Armand's daughter killed and lied to Armand about his Maker and allowed Armand to be tortured & humiliated by the public with his ankles slashed open & buried alive for over a MONTH so he couldn't escape? 🙄😒
The Vampire Armand is only ever beaten TWICE: by Santino & the Children of Satan in the books, and by Daniel on the show. That is IT. NO ONE else gets the jump on Armand, or gets the upper hand over him--he's not even one of the ones Rhoshamandes kidnaps! NO ONE effs with TVA, or effs TVA over--HE'S the boogeyman of the vampires preying on his own kind, not the other way around.
The sheer IRONY of Mr. "I Could Not Prevent It" Armand as a character is understanding cycles of violence.
You're missing the whole point of AR/RJ putting the former sex slave Armand in relationships with a slaveowner (book) or a pimp (show). It's about realizing how a former sex slave (kidnapped & trafficked overseas to be tortured so bad that his PTSD gave him amnesia) became a powerful vampire with THEE strongest Mind/Spell Gift powers, leading entire covens/cults purging ALL fledglings in their territories who resisted--thus perpetuating SYSTEMIC & INSTITUTIONALIZED ABUSE.
Armand used & abused Claudia's naivety & Louis' trust in him, cuz he lulls victims into a false sense of security before the trap springs open--"NO PAIN."
AR put Loumand together NOT to make a point about how "gross" it was that slaveowner!Louis was taking advantage of former sex slave Armand. It's about how effing ironic and SAD it is that Armand (the one who IMO experienced THE WORST horrors as a victim of abuse in all of TVC) was now the ONLY one in a position of power to PREVENT things that happened to him from happening to anyone else--and did NOTHING. Or rather: he made already bad situations even WORSE.
Armand weaponizes his past to destroy other peoples' futures, victimizing & harassing & abusing everyone as the Coven Master of that EFFED UP coven. He CLAIMS he cannot prevent bad things from happening, flashing 🥺 all day--only for us to find out that behind the scenes, this mofo was a master manipulator who gaslit & schemed against his lover Louis ("alright, I sold him out"), tricked & abused his frenemy Lestat, mutilated Claudia's body and hid the evidence (I PRAY that ghost!Claudia reveals that the Frankenstein scene from TVA happened), and psychologically tortured his human/fledgling Daniel.
Armand was originally intended to be the main villain of TVC, all the way up until the 3rd book, when AR softened Armand's edges & gave it to Akasha in QotD, and Rhosh in the PL Trilogy. ALL of AR's vamps are sympathetic villains, not cuz one is morally/ethically "better or worse" than the other--arguments have been made even to understand Rhoshamandes & Akasha's perspectives. YES, Armand had horrible things happen to him--but LOUIS is NEVER the one who does those horrible things to him, nor does he EVER benefit from Armand's past. Armand ALWAYS had the advantage over Louis, pimp or no. STOP overestimating the Maitre stupidness! AMC already told y'all what that was about!
But y'all pointedly isolate every other vamp from culpability & accountability under the thinly-veiled guise of caring so much about the freedom/autonomy of people's bodies, when really it only serves to spread hate & vitriol for Louis. All I'm seeing in this fandom is the "GROSS" inequity of how Louis is treated & talked about, versus everyone else, and it's fishy AF.

i haven’t read the books but from the way some book stans talk about lestat like he’s some saint, i was not expecting sam in that interview to be like no actually he loves being evil and he’s really good at it and all the stuff about male rage/akasha and the devil being like wow he’s so terrible i need to recruit him actually. and i’ve seen the odd comment on twitter that’s like oh poor sam for having to put up with this lestat character assassination. like i don’t wanna call ppl out but i saw someone say “he signed up for anne rice’s iwtv, not rolin jones’s iwtv 😢” like ??? no actually he did sign up for rolin’s adaptation. and then they act like he’s so put out by the changes like a) he’s getting paid to pay his favorite character i think he’s okay. and b) even if he has reservations or questions about a change or even outright disagrees with one, he’s always full of praise for the final product and for rolin in general. like girl he is fine lol. like he said, some changes needed to be made and were for the greater good e.g. wrt improving the louis character.
I forget if he clarified in the interview or not, but that bit he says about going to hell comes right from the books
But what had I done to Claudia? And when would I have to pay for that? How long was she content to be the mystery that bound Louis and me so tightly together, the muse of our moonlit hours, the one object of devotion common to us both? Was it inevitable that she who would never have a woman's form would strike out at the demon father who condemned her to the body of a little china doll? I should have listened to Marius's warning. I should have stopped for one moment to reflect on it as I stood on the edge of that grand and intoxicating experiment: to make a vampire of "the least of these." I should have taken a deep breath. But you know, it was like playing the violin for Akasha. I wanted to do it. I wanted to see what would happen, I mean, with a beautiful little girl like that! Oh, Lestat, you deserve everything that ever happened to you. You'd better not die. You might actually go to hell. But why was it that for purely selfish reasons, I didn't listen to some of the advice given me? Why didn't I learn from any of them-Gabrielle, Armand, Marius? But then, I never have listened to anyone, really. Somehow or other, I never can.
he's not a saint (but he wants to be one for a second lol) but I personally didn't feel like he was that "evil" either. anne rice wasn't rly a good writer and fired her editor 3 books in on top of it. the series was unplanned and it's a wreck. he does awful shit but nothing I'd view makes him rly "evil," so it was a struggle for me to get on board with all that. an internal fight about how he views himself, I could understand, but idk what was rly that bad otherwise. especially cuz she was so in luv with him that consequences for anything he does just drop off as the books go? let me not write a whole thing about this lol. but ya the good and evil thing is from the books. the rice-a-ronis do mention it in posts sometimes but ever since the show has aired, everything has to be explained away now, bcuz they don't like black and brown characters or fans judging their white fav. he's either an innocent meow meow or a gothic monster, depending what mood they're in that day to dodge whatever criticism comes for them.
AMC explores a lot of stories about violent men so I've never understood this insistence like it's going to be some soft romantic series. the romance is gonna exist in the violence somehow, especially cuz they're vampires. louis slamming dreamstat's head into a rock wall while being goaded to do it bcuz dreamstat says it's the only way louis knows how to luv is sort of peak loustat for where we're at rn. I'm sure eventually they'll be more tender but it's still gonna have gritty undertones for the network it's on and who is writing it. the stans luv to make it about gendered shit, like rolin is ruining it all bcuz he's a man, but anne rice wrote violent, fucked up things too. worse than the show is prbly going to go. it's all excuses. u can just not like something without having to justify ur dislike of it to death. like damn. it's not ur taste, just stop watching??
and yes sam is a grown ass man getting prbly a good paycheck from this so loll he will be fine!

‘The Night Manager’ Season 2 in Works At Amazon & BBC With Tom Hiddleston Returning
EXCLUSIVE: A second season of smash John le Carré adaptation The Night Manager is in the works at Amazon Prime Video and the BBC, with Tom Hiddleston set to reprise his role as protagonist Jonathan Pine.
Under the codename Steelworks, Deadline understands Season 2 will film later this year in London and South America. Although it is yet to be formally greenlit by Amazon and the BBC, we hear that it is set to receive a two-season order.
David Farr, who wrote the original, is back to write Season 2.
Rumors of a second season have abound almost since the first ended in late 2016, and the second run of The Ink Factory’s adaptation is understood to be set in the present day. Following British arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie) being taken away by the Syrians at the end of Season 1, Hiddleston’s Pine is informed he is dead two years later, and he has to face up to a new, even more deadly challenge.
Penned by Farr and directed by Susanne Bier, the first season also counted Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki and David Harewood amongst an impressive cast roster. Winning two Emmys and three Golden Globes, it followed Pine, the night manager of a luxury Cairo hotel and former British soldier who is recruited by the manager of a Foreign Office taskforce to infiltrate Roper’s inner circle.
The first season was one of the top-rated UK dramas of that year, aired on AMC in the U.S. and spawned a number of subsequent le Carré adaptations from The Ink Factory — which is run by le Carré’s sons Simon and Stephen Cornwell — including Little Drummer Girl starring Florence Pugh.

Home for Dinner
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Reader
Fandom: The Walking Dead (AMC)
Summary: You’ve been in Alexandria for a couple days when a new group gets brought to the town.
Warnings: None
*******
Daryl had never been more suspicious about anything as he walked into Alexandria, and that was saying something. He wasn’t alone. The entire group was pretty much as hesitant as Daryl, especially Rick. Nevertheless, they all decided to take a chance on this place.
You’d been in Alexandria for a day and a half. Another recruiter had brought you there, and you were still ready to fight and run at any given moment. That moment had yet to arrive; however, so you sat on the porch of your brand-spankin’-new, too-big-for-just-one-person house. You couldn’t have your gun, so you passed the time by shining your shoes. Then, the gate opened.
“More people,” you thought, “More people to worry about.”
Then, you caught glimpses of a bearded man carrying a baby, a woman with a samurai sword, and a guy with a big ol’ crossbow. You took off running.
“Daryl! Daryl!” He turned when he heard his name being frantically yelled from a distance.
There, full-on sprinting at him was someone he had forced himself to forget about. Someone he had pushed to the back of his mind, along with his dead brother. But there you were. Living and breathing and running.
Daryl almost fell over with the force that you hit him with. He couldn’t hug you back because his hands were full with his crossbow and a possum he had just killed, but you didn’t care. You were hugging him enough for the both of you.
“I...missed you,” was all Daryl could think to say in that moment. He didn’t know if his mind was blank or running a mile a minute.
“Missed you too.” You had tears in your eyes when you parted from him. You unceremoniously wiped your face dry, then pointed down at the possum and smiled, “You brought dinner.”
“You’re alive.” You heard from behind you. It was Rick. You hugged him and Judith. He then asked, “Where are your shoes?”
*******

Downtown Abbey’s Elizabeth McGovern will play Helen in Anne Rice’s Talamasca on AMC and AMC+
Helen is described as, “a seasoned veteran of the Talamasca, and the leader of its New York Motherhouse. She has long suspected that London’s Motherhouse has fallen under the influence of traitorous elements, and a mysterious death prompts her to recruit Guy Anatole, who will become her protégé.”

thinking about the power structure of the mutineers again...the mutineer camp can be seen as a queered version of the main group's hierarchy (e.g. here) and i think we can probably push that to be a representation of either an inverted hierarchy or a perverted hierarchy, since we are dealing with victorian era queerness both literally in hickey as the mutineers' leader and metaphorically, and inversion and perversion are the two main modalities of that.
briefly, inversion and perversion were victorian ways of thinking about what we would now call queerness, with some basic differences between them being that inversion was about being sexually "opposite" in mind vs in body (e.g. a man who experienced attraction "femininely"/toward men), whereas perversion was more just about being indiscriminate and hedonistic. inversion was a more orderly way of being what we would now describe as queer than perversion, although of course both were extremely taboo, and the associated behaviors were criminalized in britain. the amc show's hickey doesn't fit the bill for victorian stereotypes of inversion or perversion imo, but regardless, we're doing metaphor here
outside of pure gender/sexuality based queer readings of the mutineers, imo inversion doesn't really work to describe what they have going on because nothing is directly reversed. inversion seems like it would make sense given the wrong-rung-of-the-ladder thing (easier to flip a ladder upside down than to scramble it somehow) but still, i don't think they're really flipping the ladder. yes, hickey who was once low status is now in charge, but the mutineers never aspired to reverse anybody else's roles, really, at least not systematically, despite the big game they talked in their recruitment phase about everyone getting to be whatever they want. tozer was always going to stay a sergeant; hogdson was always going to stay a lieutenant; goodsir was always going to be an anatomist, etc etc.
what happened instead was that various of them became alternate versions of what they started out being. hodgson still gets his fancy little plate, but it seems like a mockery of what he was because the lieutenant title seems more like a liability for him than a mark of authority. goodsir's role had been stretched from anatomist to doctor, but in the mutineer camp his role is stretched to butcher. basically, what the mutineers have is a perversion of the order they started with — roles aren't reversed, everyone can pursue the rank they want, but the ranks either don't mean what the characters are used to them meaning or they just don't mean anything anymore. their hierarchy works by abandoning various "polite" niceties around behavior and morality, and by changing the meanings of class markers
disclaimer ofc that i do not share victorian people's attitudes about any of these things
#i have a million other things to say about this but this is what is in my heart this morning#the terror#terrorposting

Alpha Summer #1: Alpha Is Everything
Originally published Apr 27, 2019 This series is being revised
The Hedren Theater in downtown Romero hadn't shown a movie since the AMC moved in ten years earlier. But before its demolition, the theater was saved by a Carpenter family petition and it was designated a historic landmark. The small, two-screen cinema was renovated and restored to its original state when it was first opened in 1928. Now it was one of the premier theater houses in northwestern Washington. A popular outlet for political fundraisers, theater department productions, and the occasional off-broadway show, The Hedren was often too exclusive for any random student organization to book.
Of course, the Alphas weren’t any random student organization. Not anymore.
A lot had changed since Madison took over as president of Carpenter State’s Alpha Delta Theta chapter. Under Claire Petruzzi’s leadership, sisters in the chapter were happy just to coexist with the other Greek societies on campus, leaving a minor impact in the form of small and infrequent community service projects. From the beginning of her presidency, Madison made it clear that the girls of her sorority weren’t Betas, but Alphas. They were what the boys in Alpha Kappa Psi could only pretend to be. Carpenter State’s brightest, strongest, and sexiest students. Madison implemented aggressive recruiting strategies that tripled Alpha Delta Theta’s membership. While the other sororities were scrambling to understand how Madison could poach so many of their members so quickly, Madison bolstered the Alphas’ popularity on campus by throwing extravagant parties at night and sending dozens of Alpha volunteers to the children’s hospital in the day. Now with a power that few students had ever wielded on the campus of Carpenter State, Madison was ready to take on its most exclusive group—The Seven Samurai.*
It all started with this one event: Alpha Delta Theta’s first annual Fantasy Girlfriend Draft being held in the main auditorium of the Hedren Theater. To date, it was Madison’s most elaborate project as Alpha president, and few of her sisters had ever seen her so wound up. It would be wrong to call Madison nervous—she didn’t have a nervous bone in her body. But despite Madison’s bottomless reserves in confidence, she didn’t have total faith in her brainwashed sisters not to fuck the whole thing up.
She’d found that sorority girls were quite easy to manipulate, but maintaining a comfortable balance between loyal servitude and sharp intellect was a tenuous practice that Madison had yet to perfect. Claire Petruzzi for example, the first of the original Alphas to fall under Madison’s thrall, could have used her leadership experience in arranging the draft, but Claire had been so thoroughly dominated by Madison that little remained of her ability to lead. She was simply a follower now, one of Madison’s most prized possessions. And yet other sisters proved too headstrong to even risk loosening the leash on, such was the case for the sorority treasurer, Caroline Bishop. Caroline was old money Romero and before her rebirth at Madison’s feet, she’d played that role of entitled rich girl down to the designer purse stereotype. The funny thing about privilege is that it’s often the strongest motivator when fighting back against a dominating force. Caroline had proven a worthy adversary for Madison in the early days of her presidency.
Few Alphas had the qualities of Piper McNeill. Though Madison had only captured Piper to prove a point, the young Alpha quickly revealed her value. She had a unique mix of intelligence and meekness that made her fit to serve. She was Madison’s head organizer, the most important piece of tonight’s event, and the only Alpha who was doing a damn thing to reassure Madison that the night wouldn’t be a complete disaster.
Though the event wasn’t Piper’s own idea, she’d been the architect of the whole show. Madison knew that Alphas were her greatest commodity and she hoped that a charity auction would bring out the hungry frat boys. It was Piper’s idea to hold the event on the night of the NFL draft and model it as such. One member from six of Carpenter State’s fraternities would pick in the draft, and they would each choose their own Alpha from a pool of a twelve sisters. The members were chosen at random to encourage a higher turnout, with an admission of $50.00 at the box office. It was convoluted, sure, but the kind of stupid stunt that frat boys loved.
Piper buzzed around backstage, obsessively studying the twelve prospects that she’d handpicked for the Fantasy Girlfriend Draft. This was a large operation and it required not just absolute obedience from all Alphas involved, but it had to be executed with impeccable style. Piper wasn’t just selling these girls, she was selling a brand. The Alpha, the perfect girlfriend.
Though some of the Alphas struggled with the idea of being outsourced as escorts to frat boys, Piper had assured them that it was all part of the plan to get into the Seven Samurai’s circle.
“But why?” Claire scrunched her face as she tried to process the question in her head. “I thought Sister Madison was all about like, girl power and everything?”
Caroline elbowed Claire in the ribs and quickly replied, “Of course she is. You shouldn’t question Sister Madison’s will, Sister Claire.”
“But what if I have to fuck one of them?”
“It won’t come to that,” Piper interjected as she followed down the line of Alphas standing obediently before her. “I promise that Sister Madison has a plan, and when tonight’s over we’ll be one step closer to realizing her dream.”
Claire and Caroline shared a sigh.
Madison floated in backstage, moving swiftly toward Piper and taking her by the arm. “He’s here,” she whispered. “Row F, seat 8.”
Piper nodded and took note of the seat number on her phone.
“It’s imperative that he’s picked, okay? Otherwise the night’s a waste.”
“I understand, Mistress,” Piper replied. “We’re following your script. Just find your seat and everything will go smoothly.”
Madison bit her lip, then did a quick glance over the twelve prospects. She pointed to the Alpha’s newest pledge. “She doesn’t look comfortable,” Madison said. “Make sure she fits in.”
“Yes, Mistress,” Piper replied.
“I don’t think I’m fit for this,” the pledge frowned. “Nonsense,” Piper smiled. “You’re gorgeous. You’re charismatic. The frat boys will love you.” “What if I disappoint Sister Madison?” “You’re perfect, okay? Alpha is everything.” The pledge’s eyes snapped wide open as she intoned, “There is only Alpha."
Piper looked out among a packed crowd while Tina Kennedy took the stage as the night’s MC. She introduced the evening’s twelve prospects to a slideshow of their “bikini bod” pics which elicited plenty of cheers from the crowd. Piper could see her mistress in the front row, pleased with the way the introduction was shaping up. When the draft commenced, Piper began texting Tina random seat numbers which she then read for the audience. Members from each fraternity jumped out of their seats as they were read off.
First, Freddie Simmons, Carpenter State’s own star baseball player. Excitedly he yanked the microphone from Tina’s grasp and shouted, “Melanie Reyes, baby!”
“Our first surprise of the night!” Tina said when she regained control of the microphone. “With the first overall pick in the draft, Freddie Simmons selects Melanie Reyes.”
Mel entered stage right, strutting confidently in her high heels and bareback gown. She flashed a white smile for the crowd, defying the sporty tomboy image she’d once so proudly embellished. “Like Freddie,” Tina said. “Melanie is a star athlete, smashing a school record thirty home runs last season for the lady Gremlins.”
Freddie admired Mel as she closed in, flashing his own confident, “I’m gonna put you in your place” smile. Mel closed the gap and pulled Freddie into a kiss. The crowd went wild as they exited stage left.
Piper sent the next number and the draft continued. Caroline went with the second pick, and as she entered the stage she put on an even racier show for the crowd as each Alpha would try to top the last.
With the third pick, Piper laid the bait.
“Row F, seat eight,” Tina read. “Yeah!” Gregory Mortensen cried as he realized where he sat. He was a paunchy young man with a haircut that didn’t seem to quite fit his head. He was out of breath by the time he jogged his way up to the stage.
Tina kept her distance as she asked him his name and fraternity.
“Greg Mortensen…my friends call me Morty. Sigma Iota Nu.” “Wow,” Tina offered a polite golf clap. “From the prestigious Sigma Iota Nu, we have Morty, ready to take the third Alpha off the board.”
Morty spoke into the microphone, “Claire Petruzzi!”
Madison couldn’t have staged this better. Not only had she tracked down one of Carpenter State’s storied Seven Samurai, but she’d also managed to string him along. But the greatest surprise of the night was that he’d picked Claire, her oldest enemy. Madison watched with a wry smile across her face as Claire pranced on stage, powerless to disobey her orders, Claire was forced to Morty for an evening of truly distasteful activities.
“Have you ever seen Blade II?” Morty whispered in Claire’s ear. “It’s the superior film of the Blade Trilogy which many overlook as the series that normalized superheroes in our popular culture.”
Somewhere inside Claire was screaming.
With Morty in her clutches, Madison was free to enjoy the rest of the evening as she watched her conquests individually embarrass themselves on stage. But it wasn’t until the final pick that Madison found absolute delight.
“With the final pick in the first ever Alpha Fantasy Draft,” Tina said. “Mike Olsen selects…”
She held the microphone up to Mike’s lips and the frat boy proudly announced, “Corbin Arroyo!”
Backstage, Corbin was a mess of anxiety. As the newest Alpha, she was only just adjusting to a life that she had once mocked. Piper tried to ease the pledge’s nerves throughout the ceremony , assuring her that, if her name was called, it would just come natural to her. Serving Madison always did. “Look at Mel,” Piper said. “She took to being an Alpha easily. The will to obey is inside all of us.”
Corbin nodded and repeated her oath. “Alpha is everything. There is only Alpha.”
Piper smiled.
Corbin continued to repeat her oath until the sound of her name over the speakers and instantly she was pulled into trance as her mind played out her programming. She moved fluidly toward the stage, like a veteran supermodel walking the catwalk for the thousandth time. Driven by a powerful and primal desire to please her Mistress Madison, the pledge put on a bright Alpha smile for the crowd, strutting on stage in her tight, form-fitting dress.
When she reached Mike, she parroted Mel’s move by pulling him into a kiss, but as their lips touched she plunged her tongue into his mouth before spinning around and grinding her ass against his tightening pants. The crowd loved it.
“Are you gonna fuck me tonight?” Corbin asked with a slight, mischievous grin. “I…dunno? Is that allowed?” “Baby,” she playfully slid her tongue over his mouth, quickly tracing the outline from his chin to his nose. “I insist.”
For the first time that night, Madison had joined the applause. But unlike the dozens of frat boys around her, applauding one of their own who was surely going to “get some,” Madison was applauding something else. She was applauding her own work.
Alpha is everything. There is only Alpha.
*The Seven Samurai are an elite group of fraternity members who traffic drugs throughout campus. First mentioned in Captured #7: Confrontation

ask dump
i have a couple dozen unanswered asks on this blog, most of which i believe are media recommendations, so i'm going to go through those now in a batch!
if you haven't seen it already We Are Lady Parts would be a fantastic recommendation for this blog. I started it last week and really love it. It's about a struggling punk Muslim girls band who recruit the extremely anxious, goody-two-shoes Amina to be their lead guitarist. It balance its moments of drama really well with the comedy and all of the women in the band get to be deeply weird in different and endlessly charming ways. My favorite is Amina because of her very relatable habit to have elaborate silly daydreams about anything and everything. Good show with some really good women!
I've heard good things about this one! Adding it to the list
I can't remember if you take recs for things in progress or not but the webtoon Katlaya Rising is currently the high point of my week, the art style POPS and it is jam-packed with girls and girls who love girls
I will always read things in progress 👍 I honestly in some ways prefer getting into stuff before it's finished. Like an animal with one of those food bowls that stops you from eating too fast. Added to the list.
Please read Villain Initialization!!!! The female characters are really good!!!!!!!!!
Looking at the cover and description for this one it seems like most of the female cast is gonna be side characters. i'll add it to the list but itll probably be reallllly back burner unless someone wants to go to bat hard for it and sway me
if youre taking recommendations bittersweet con panna is a cute yuri manhwa and hacks is an insane tvshow about millenial comedy writer who got cancelled on twitter and a beautiful old standup comic about to lose her vegas residency.
added both! never heard of bittersweet con panna but my sister has been going really hard for hacks and i feel like i owe it to her to watch that sooner rather than later because of all the media im always trying to force onto her
"Kevin Can F*** Himself" on AMC is fantastic and has some really interesting female protags, I recommend. Might be a similar vibe to On Becoming a God in Central Florida actually!
Already on the list!
i'd like to second the rec for no home, probably one of the greatest webtoons of all time
one moth ago anon i can safely say you were correct about this it is certainly one of the greatest webtoons of all time. i do think its not really About women but i get why you all wanted me to read it enough to push it
@whatasmoothgardener Reccing a short manga I've been reading recently called Is Kichijoji the Only Place to Live. Its a manga about twin girls who run a small real estate company in Tokyo from the POV of their clients. It has a unique art style, its female character focused, and it teaches you about the different places in Tokyo. However its kinda episodic.
I don't mind episodic at all. Cool to see female manga protags who arent stick thin! added to the list
@phoenixfangs i got into a webtoon the other day called nevermore and considered recommending it to u, but i second guessed myself like oh what if its not worth recommending and its stupid actually, BUT i had a dream last night that u were talking about it so i think i have to at least put it on ur radar, if it isnt already xD what happens if u take edgar allen poe stories and make it about lesbians? u get the webtoon nevermore ❤️ theres an actual Plot to it too im not trying to sell it based on tropes, i just cant describe it better than the actual synopsis/description on webtoon, so id say its worth a glance!
At first glance i'm not sure how to my personal tastes this owuld be but i feel like i have maybe been unfairly biased against popular webtoons in that front. added to the list !
@counttwinkula listen i know your "media to get around to" list is forever long but i reread the haunting of hill house (the book) for my podcast and eleanor and theodora just. won't stop touching each other. some of the most classic toxic yuri imo. also the 1963 film adaptation (the haunting) is so good
ill always appreciate a horror recommendation from one of my learned Horror Mutuals. added both!
if it changes anything, you can find the main stories of arknights and limbus company here and here respectively without downloading the game: [retcons dot github dot io slash limbus-storylogs] [akgcc dot github dot io slashcc slash story dot html hashtag main] (sorry it wont let me send links) i totally understand if u think its too much trouble, but i do think both games have very good female characters
I'm sorry... i just cant go down this road.... it's a path i'm not willing ot walk. if i was going to read the stories for a gacha game i wasn't playing i would just go read shoujo kageki revue starlight re:LIVE. which i havent been able to make myself do. so its just not gonna end up happening
have you heard of tangle tower… it’s a relatively short murder mystery click and point game about two families & their secrets. the art is gorgeous + the game is fully voiced, and the protagonist + his assistant have a dynamic that reminds me of the classic ace attorney ‘lawyer + weird girl’ duos. the majority of the cast are women, and the game features some of the Girls Of All Time. highly recommend, esp since you’re an ace attorney fan
Added to the list!
if you’re trying to flesh out the book section, i’d like to recommend three parts dead by max gladstone! admittedly it’s been a hot second since I’ve read it so i can’t speak on the quality of the writing itself, but the plot and the worldbuilding had some interesting stuff. the novel follows tara, a necromancer in a world where doing magic is more akin to being a lawyer, who’s hired to resurrect a god. the book is the first in a series, and the books that follow have some other interesting female protagonists + canonical queer women if you enjoy it o7
Sounds neat! Added to the list
ok i still have some more from back in fucking April that i didnt manage to get to. but im getting distracted now

Yo, are you sneaking the burgers in with or without a purse or bag? I got an amc membership thing so I see 3 movies a week and it's getting kinda stale so I want to try to beat you at it. I've snuck in 2 cheeseburgers, a medium fry, 2 apple pies, and an apple fritter from McDonald's into the Super Mario movie in my purse! Thanks for reading!
no purse i wear pants and jackets with alot of pockets and i sneak them in that way. feel like a bag or purse would be cheating for me. i might recruit some friends to help me along the way if im going for the bigger numbers

The Hindi adaptation of The Night Manager starring Aditya Roy Kapur as Pine and Anil Kapoor as Roper launched earlier this month on Disney+ Hotstar, and Simon Cornwell recently told Deadline he’s open to a second season for this version.
Fifth Season (formerly Endeavor Content) distributes The Night Manager and has a minority stake in The Ink Factory.

Gentlemen, Rustics, Accents, and Imperialism
Reflecting on binary oppositions in The Patriot, I'm surprised (and a little embarrassed) that I haven't discussed one of the more obvious ones: foreigner/native. Oh, this is a thorny one! For the sake of what I'm hoping and praying will be brevity, for once, I'm going to focus on how this distinction is portrayed through characters' accents. It turns out that accent choices do a lot of heavy lifting in this film to conceal historical truths, particularly those that paint South Carolina Patriots in an unflattering light.
The first accent to cover is the most often heard foreign one, and it is, almost, one accent. Although the 18th century British Army was full of men who joined to escape a life of poverty or at least found it be a better option for supporting their families than the professions available at home, we never hear them. There are no Cockney redcoats in this film. The accent we do hear often--from Cornwallis, O'Hara and Tavington--belongs to the landed gentry. The only British character who does not share it is the wounded private Tavington interviews after Martin's massacre in the woods, who is also the only speaking British soldier below the rank of captain. By comparison, the Americans have different accents and are represented by people of different classes, upholding a distinction between the oppressed, poor native-born population and an oppressive, wealthy foreign one that has little basis in historical reality.
While the difference in class and accent for Americans is more accurate, the accents themselves are not. The one belonging to Martin and his children, Charlotte Selton, the Howards, and James Wilkins is recognizably American but not distinctly Southern. More likely, Colonists would have had accents reminiscent of their, or their parents', country of origin (something AMC's Turn: Washington's Spies captures far more effectively than The Patriot). The development of distinct, regional accents takes generations. Interestingly, the more rustic characters, the ones we first meet when Martin and Villeneuve recruit at the rowdy tavern, do have clear, modern Southern accents. I'll return to this later, but for now I wonder why there has been time for some South Carolinians to develop a thick backwoods Southern accent but not for others to develop the kind of genteel Southern drawl spoken by such specimens as the Epps in Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave. In this respect, Charlotte and Tavington are near perfect opposites. He has lost the land and wealth that were his birthright but kept his accent; she lacks the accent but has the plantation full of inherited slaves.
It also bears mentioning that all the Black characters, enslaved and free, have American accents even though the transatlantic slave trade was still in full force and Charleston harbor was the busiest slave port in the colonies. Occam and Martin's workers could just as easily have had African accents, but perhaps that would too readily remind the audience that they did not simply co-exist with White South Carolinians but had, or been born to parents who had, been kidnapped from another continent and brought to the colony against their will.
Another accent The Patriot wholly silences is, of course, Cherokee. Indeed, no Cherokee person speaks in the film at all even though fighting them is a significant part of Martin and other characters' backstories. Part of the reason characters like Rollins and Billings do have recognizably Southern accents is likely deference to the stereotype that Southerners are more "rustic" than Americans from other regions, but there is something even darker at play. Since regional accents take so long to develop, that the characters Martin fought the Cherokees alongside have one indicates that their families have also inhabited this land for a very long time. The narrative presents them as South Carolina natives at the expense of the actual Native people they forced to give up land they'd inhabited for centuries even as they rebelled against oppression at the hands of British "foreigners."
That there are two scenes featuring Cherokees filmed but not included in the final cut--a flashback to Fort Wilderness at the beginning and a a brief, unheard exchange between Tavington and Cherokee scouts--illustrates the difficulty of fully erasing Native people from the history of place in which they played such a significant role. Similarly, we see many Black people on Charlotte's plantation and in the sea island community to which she and Martin's children escape, but almost all of them are in non-speaking roles. The Patriot asks us to sympathize with South Carolinian Patriots for their oppression under British rule but ignore their participation in the "ugly business" of imperialism through African slavery and Native genocide. The story may not be able to erase people without whom colonial South Carolina would be wholly unrecognizable, but it can certainly silence them.
#the patriot#imperialism#african slavery#native genocide#accents#american revolution#south carolina history#whew#this isn't too terribly long
