You ever eat / drink something and go. Oh. The Character would love this.
Bc I'm trying blooming tea for the first time. And both "Eternal Love" and "Rising Spring" give Big Hashirama vibes. He seems like he'd like perfumey / floral teas.
Bro for sure had a tea garden exactly three paces from Tobirama's poison herb garden. Both hidden from Butsuma for Different Reasons 💀

Round 2; A bouquet of amaranth, orange brugmansia, delphinium, honeysuckle and white aster Vs A bouquet of fern, rex begonia leaves, black rose, lily, odessa calla lily and green hydrangea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you know who they are, or you are pretty sure of it, please don't tell until this poll has ended!
First, let's talk about the bouquet of amaranth, orange brugmansia, delphinium, honeysuckle and white aster
Meaning and why these flowers were chosen: amaranth, to represent immortality in death; orange brugmansia, to represent vivacity and vibrancy, but also an initially unseen danger; delphinium, to mean levity and fun, and for generosity; honeysuckle, for its sweet taste, as this character is associated with candy; white aster, to mean wisdom and because it is named after the greek word for “star” and he calls himself a “stargazer” Description: he exists in a pseudo-afterlife of sorts, where inhabitants have a chance to return to life, can choose to stay (like he does), or be erased from existence entirely. this character passes up safer positions because he likes to be out and about where he can see the world and the people in it change over time. he’s also very open-minded to all kinds people—even being friendly towards those he’s supposed to be in conflict with as long as he’s having a good time. he’s got street smarts out the ass and he always repays his debts. not to mention he’s very skilled at navigating the afterlife, being unusually powerful and knowledgeable for his status because he’s been around so long. his biggest flaw is he spends too long sitting back and observing so active schemers get the best of him. he’s also got a partner that he really cares for but tends to disguise it behind snark, tricks, and reminding her not to step out of line, which is always fun in a character

Now, let's talk about the bouquet of fern, rex begonia leaves, black rose, lily, odessa calla lily and green hydrangea
Meaning and why they were chosen: Fern- New beginnings, magic, fascination ( going on a journey with a guy you liked the look of, whoops that's a whole ass god. neato) Rex begonia leaves- Warning ( Really just a whole lot of danger throughout. they're chased by assassins like a week into the journey) Black rose- Death (for near-death experiences and full-death experiences!) Lily- Love and rebirth (Imagine loving a dude so much you come back to life. It's totally not because you literally ate the power of the god you formerly worshiped and fused with them) Odessa Calla Lily- Strength and resilience (Goes through a lot and isn't affected by it nearly as much as you'd expect) Green Hydrangea- Growth (for becoming a slightly less terrible person) Description: This character escapes home and goes on a globetrotting journey with someone he doesn't know. They grow together and become friends. Fortunately? His new friend is a newly formed god who's trying to not be a terrible person, and failing. They make many enemies through the power of being unbearable and death chases them at all turns, he can't keep escaping forever. Or can he?

The thing with Oliveira (and a lot of other Billy writers) for me is that... it's great to see a queer character being written by queer writers, obviously. But it's significantly less great when those writers don't know anything about Jewish culture- or, in Oliveira's case, seem to think that aspects of Catholicism (and Paradise Lost specifically?) will automatically apply to Judaism. Which might be worse in some ways.
I'd love to see more Jewish writers, specifically, tackling Billy. I don't think it's particularly difficult to accurately/respectfully write a character representing a demographic you aren't a part of, everyone should be able to, but Marvel tends to miss more than it hits on this one. NYX being an ongoing notable example. Ewing is mixed for me because he tries with Billy, admittedly, but he also used the white supremacist spelling of Kabbalah. And that... unsettled me a bit. Might just be me personally but that's not a mistake I take lightly; if you can't even spell it properly then I doubt your sources are legitimate.
I'm not sure that he's trying to apply Paradise Lost to Judaism, precisely. I think he's taken two characters who happen to be Jewish and Romani, and whose family history and magical powers are, for better and for worse, tied into that heritage, and retroactively forced them into much closer proximity to a facet of the Marvel world that is paradigmatically Christian, in a series which takes every possible opportunity to make Christian literary and theological references-- and not seeming to realize that this is a bad fit.
It's obviously not my place to judge, but from my perspective Oliveira has made apt and well-placed references to Billy's Jewishness in other comics, as well as with Aaron and Arnie Roth elsewhere in this series. That's part of why I found the whole Mephisto thing so jarring. It all just feels a little self-indulgent. Between the Emplate arc, the Mephisto arc, the Christmas issue, and now whatever's going on with Blackheart-- sorry, Gabriel-- I'm feeling a little, y'know burnt out on it. Sort of like how Orlando's folklore references in Scarlet Witch don't extend beyond Greek mythology. You really don't have anything else to work with?
Who's Jewish in NYX? Why are we talking about that book?

A steak and fish tail of Spicy Red Snapper that mum prepared for dinner. Also on the menu is Amaranth Greens Stir-Fry (苋菜), commonly known as Chinese Spinach with squids and minced pork. I preferred my fish steamed or cooked with liquid like in chilli sauce here if they are fresh though mum hardly if ever steamed them before. Reason is for steamed fish, you got to eat it while it is hot else you have got that fishy taste if left to cool plus both sis and I don’t come home at the same timing.

I thought I'd use Solarpunk Action Week as an excuse to start reducing our diet's reliance on the top four of the ten staple crops--maize, rice, wheat, potatoes, cassava, soybeans, sweet potatoes, yams, sorghum, and plantain--that humanity is overly reliant upon.
I cooked up some amaranth to go with a lentil-tomato-feta salad and braised collard greens. The little pile of nutty amaranth was viewed initially with skepticism, but the ultimate verdict was two thumbs up.
In the future, I'll try to set aside one or two days a week where we eat amaranth or quinoa instead of rice, wheat, potatoes, or even sweet potatoes as our carb.

Hello and good day!
Just wanted to share a few Planting notes and whats been going on round my garden and kitchen~
Today I planted some
Tumblr media
They look very lovely in the pictures, plus the Tubers that grow under them are said to be edible and similar to potatoes. I think their pretty and would like to try them once. I figure if no one in the household likes them I have tried them, and have a neat thing to share with friends at least + can share with the seed library or at a plant swamp :)
Also direct seeded some
Tumblr media
Dill and cilantro seed. I've never been real great at making herbs grow well but this year I'm hoping is the year to change that :) with luck in a short time there'll be plenty for us as well as gifting, maybe trading and sharing (which is part of my ultimate grow goals :) ) but I'll be satisfied with enough to use here and self seed for future harvests.
Direct seeded some sugar baby watermelons to replace the bed the chickens dug up. (I'll need to make a new fence for this part of the garden, the old one was just simple wire fence. I'd like to put in a nice wire and wood one with a latch gate)
Tossed out a few handfuls of black oil sunflowers among the unclaimed parts of the back garden. With luck they'll grow pretty quickly to proffer some shade and a snack spot for the parrots again.
Tumblr media
And of interest, the regrow from the store green onions is blooming some flowers! They are definatly determined lil plants!
I don't have pictures currently for the rest but I also got a bit of stuff done for both gardening and things to try out
🔨I made 2 olla's to try out in an attempt to reduce watering around the garden as well as to conserve water in the soil a bit more. Their just 2 unglazed Terra cotta pots, silicone sealed together and a cork put in one end. The water coaster I'm using to cover the top in between watering. I've never used them, or seen them used before so at this time its to test out for a future project. Plus i just wanted to see them in function :)
🔨 fully made a 5×2 raised bed for the front garden. A second is about 1/2 made. I need to get more wood to finish. At current fenced in spacing I could fit 2 more beds this size.
⛰️ got that bed lined out with cardboard, paper and filled with compost to settle (currently 6 cubic feet of composted manure) 🪶I still need to lay out water lines for both future rows, but want to get one more of the 3 beds built before I start laying that line down.
I won't be doing ground beds in this section due to the knowledge there are utility lines pretty close to the surface. ⭐️ALWAYS call or find out where your yards service lines are befor digging!! It will save you a lot of stress and financial strain⭐️
Plus I can make the raised beds deeper/taller for root crops like carrots or sweet potatoes without having to dig too deep 😉
Laid out some tarp to die off a section of yard to start an amaranth grow spot (end goal, 2 spaces for this. human food, natural dye work material and chicken feed)
That's it for todays lil blurbs :)

Amaranth
The garden is full of lambsquarter and amaranth/pigweed. I cook lambsquarter every year, and prefer it to spinach, but I’d never tried amaranth before. I was just going to boil it briefly, but decided to look up a recipe instead. I was pretty happy with this site, both for background info on amaranth and also the basic ‘wilt in a skillet with oil’ recipe

Pretty tasty - I will definitely do this again.
