I really wanted to connect the other robins, Dick turning into nightwing, and the relationship with Bruce into this. so below are a combo of rough sketches and written out ideas mixed together bc i couldn't finish this without ripping my hair out. yess bb jason!! In my AU, this is when dick and jason meet. Dick claims batman hasnt changed, but yet Dick keeps tabs on gotham to know about jason just as much as bruce is aware of the teen titans (and even tho Dick says "oh look, a replacement. the batman cant go without a robin". he knows that isn't really the case. he's just still hurting from their fall out. and NO he does not feel jealous or anything like that towards Jason.) I will say that's where the main drawings stopped. but the story continues! But mostly text bc drawing it out became tiring. So: they work together in an upcoming fight. Batman (and teen titans) call out to "robin" so there's funny miscommunication as which robin responds to what. Jason proves himself to Dick that he can be a robin. Bruce is his usual skeptical self and it drives Dick up a wall. Bruce eventually calls Dick out for being the same way though (altho this is more of egging on to push Dick to make some more changes. since bruce never wanted dick to be like him).

Dick: You don't know my teammates. Don't act like you do. Bruce: You're right. I don't know them. Nor do I trust them with my son. Dick: Why can't you trust MY judgement. Bruce goes back to working, ignoring the statement. And Dick comes to a realization to how Bruce shuts him out (like what he did to starfire earlier). This leads Dick to reveal his identity to his team because he DOES in fact trust them 100%. There's some closure from that and this would kinda be a turning point in terms of his angst/edgy phase as a robin. As he officially passes the mantle to Jason and where he becomes Nightwing.

I established in my analysis of the update "Tipping" that Legend and Ravio are showing the first signs of getting along in these updates, but just like in that update: Ravio is the punching bag again.

This is for a bigger purpose, even if I did highly enjoy drawing his petty suffering. (Sorry, Rav.) That purpose being Hilda! She gets very little screentime in this arc, but is also vital for the story. So I did my best to squeeze AS Much preparation for her appearance as I could. Of course any ALBW fan reading the comic knows that going to Lorule Castle means Hilda will be there, but I don't want to rely just on people's prior knowledge of the franchise.

So! I set up the banishment as a way to establish Ravio and her connection better, the fact she seemed to overreact to Ravio vanishing for a little bit, and very importantly: That Ravio is even more determined to go see her learning this. This way we already have some idea of their possible dynamic long before Hilda appears in the comic.

It also makes her actual appearance more exciting! Cause the viewer has been waiting for it! It's what she deserves 💛

Anyway, to focus on the comic itself!

Azzy! Also known as "Thief Girl" in game. It felt wrong for her not to have a name, so I slipped one in there. I like to think that Link is the one who suggested hiring her as a guard for the castle. She was likely one of the first people besides the triforce gang to open her heart to the idea of positive change in Lorule.

Also she had some sass in game so I had to keep it in. She may be doing honest work now but she ein't a bore.

Azzy was going to let them in regardless of Ravio not being on the list, she just wanted to see what'd happen if she messed around a bit. It's entertainin'.

...Another reason she was going to let Ravio in regardless, is that Azzy cares about Hilda quite a lot and could tell that her banishing Ravio was probably not a choice she made in her right mind. She was hoping that Ravio would go in and fix the situation where she couldn't.

Although Ravio reassures Azzy, the last few panels of the update are purposefully a major tonal shift from earlier.

We're at the castle, it's time to face Hilda, and Ravio is nervous. The goofy tone hasn't just been to give the reader a breather, it's an example of Ravio distracting himself of what's ahead. He can't do that anymore, as in the next update Hilda makes her appearance.

It's meant to be kind of a parallel to the game too. Ravio's been gone for unknown reasons, Hilda's spiraling, and he's gathering courage he didn't know he had to face her and hopefully make everything okay. Altho, even without that context it should be an interesting scene... I tried, at least!

Finally there's what Ravio says: "I'll make sure of it." This is foreshadowing to the dynamic that Hilda and Ravio are shown to have in the next update: Codepdency. The two may be incredibly close, but they've also been the only people they've been able to rely on for far too long. Ravio truly in this moment believes it's his duty to make Hilda feel better, and that he is the only one who can.

You know, if there was one manga that would be adapted to live action and succeed, I never would have guessed it to be this one.

I'm ofc talking about the One Piece Live Action on Netflix

A whole day binge right after release, I was READY, and thankfully, I was not disappointed. There are cuts and streamlining of the story, characters coming in earlier than in the manga/anime, and some of the emotional bits don't hit as hard as in the original. Still, I can feel the love the production team has of One Piece. The characters are goofy and lovable, but they are also serious and straight-faced.

One thing that I noticed throughout was the constant close up to faces and sometimes straight on, as if almost breaking the 4th wall. The very first scene with Luffy is like this, but there he DOES look into the camera directly, but the pov of the camera is revealed to be a newsbird. It's like a statement that they know this is a silly pirate romp, they know that some people will not take this seriously, but they will not do 4th wall breaks silly, but in-universe silly. Does that make sense?

I laughed at several points in the show, big and wide smile on my face and pointing at the screen several times...

But I do wonder how much of my laugh was on the show's on merit or if I was only calling back on the the source material. At times I did feel the straw hat crew not being as iconic as in the manga/anime. The extreme reactions, the over the top noises and actions, at the same time I realize that real people generally don't act like that.

I appreciate the show runners attention to details. Putting stuff in to tease future arcs, adapting some cover stories, some of the complete unhinged behaviors of characters (Garp I'm looking at you!).

This show adapted Romance Dawn, orange town, syrup village, baratie, and arlong park.

There are so many moments that are almost scene by scene taken from the manga. Luffy in the barrel and meeting Koby. Alvida with her giant spike club. We got to see some pre-captured Zoro moments (particularly him killing a baroque works agent!), Nami being a sneak.

Then we meet the one and only clown Buggy! They hammed him up, they made him a showman and a real clown (with a real bulgy nose as well, props!). I loved Buggy. Goddamn what a show stealer. Excellent casting, his devil fruit was show cased so well and it looked good!

Usopp's introduction is the most changed. The kids are gone and the Black Cat pirates never call in the entire crew or Jango. Instead of the fight on the slope by the beach it's instead in Kaya's house from which they cannot escape. The actor for Kuro nailing the mannerism and hand movements, altho his "teleporting" looks a bit wonky.

With Baratie we are finally introduced to Sanji! Who's British now 😆. And Mihawk's introduction tho! Badass and just so over the top and goofy. I love him so much! This is where we got the biggest change where we instead get Arlong and crew coming in smashing the place up (a tiny bit). Arlong may not be as tall as he should be but I love the practical approach instead of CGI, which means he actually feels present! All the fishmen we see are guys in costume and prosthetics!

Arlong Park felt a bit more rushed than the earlier parts, but I do think they nailed *that* scene tho.

If the bar for live action adaptation was below the ground, I would say now there's a new bar, which is on the ground 😅. I think it's a solid show but it might be my bias talking. I do have some gripes tho.

One thing that was constant in East Blue Saga was how much village people hate or are scared of pirates. I think they got the marines right, and the pirates, but they failed to really have the village people be a character in their own right. In the manga and anime the villagers are mostly a monolith who will think and act alike in situations and be part of the happenings either by watching or fighting. We got just about none of it here, except a mention in Arlong Park. They did some really good and cool world building with lots of people populating the sets in the background - but that's it, they're just extras to fill out the screen. There are ofc a few exceptions but I felt it was not enough.

I wish they had Luffy be more agile when using his gum-gum powers. Whenever he springs a pistol or a whip is stands in place, which I found boring (and they did so well with Zoro's fights!). I do think the explanation is that they decided for Luffy to be coming into his powers as we go. That we will learn with him all the things he can do (him not knowing he can blow himself up like a balloon proves this). I hope that in season 2 (please netflix!) they show the growth in his fighting!

But to end this long post. I just wanna say how much I fucking love the dude playing Mihawk. Goddamn he's so fun. MVP.

For the straw hats, I would say that Usopp feels the closest to manga version, and Luffy feels the most distant from it. But I don't dislike this, and I think the actor for Luffy has so much potential to really make the role his own.

It will never be "just like" the manga and anime, but that's ok! It's a new adaptation (in live action) made by people you can tell loves the source material and really really tried to make it work! I respect that, and I respect this show. Please watch it on Netflix! It's a fun and silly time, just like it should be!

when first we faced, and touching showed (how well we knew the early moves) by mrdcai -> rhaenyra pushes harder for jacaerys and helaena to marry, so alicent is forced to allow the two to spend time together to see if they suit. there's a heavy focus on romantic rhaenicent that i love in this one, and it’s also just (imo) well done in how the relationships all develop. i’m very fond of this one!

i was waiting for one last album to come out b4 i put this year's list together (lauren mayberry's new solo album) bcos i was considering including it in the list based of the strength of the singles that had been coming out beforehand.. but i finally decided that as good as it is, and altho i could excuse putting 2 albums from 2023 in this year's list, i just didn't feel right putting an album that only came out yesterday on my ~end of year~ list 😅 but w/ that decision out the way, i can finally post this!! 😁

it's been a rly gr8 year for music, w/ 2 albums i'd been anticipating for literal Years finally coming out (los campesinos!' first album since 2017, and the cure's first album since 2008 😳) ..but i don't think anyone can deny that this year was absolutely Dominated by the pop girlies, i guess probably due to the confluence of "brat" becoming such a phenomenon, taylor swift's ongoing eras tour, And the explosions of both chappell and sabrina's careers 🤔

charli xcx - brat / brat and it's completely different but also still brat: maybe The defining album of the year?? but i think i actually prefer the remix version tho, it's rly fascinating and cool to me how some of the remixed songs are like. in conversation w/ the original versions?? 😧 and they're all absolute bops, ofc 😌

the cure - songs of a lost world: robert smith first mentioned this album back in 2019, and after so many years of saying it was on it's way, i'd started to kind of doubt it.. but this year was the year it finally came out, and tbf i think it's good enough that it was worth the wait 😁

the linda lindas - no obligation: i'd been into the linda lindas since their first ep.. but then i'd kind of neglected listening to them since 😅 so when i saw this had come out i gave it a listen and was like "oh shit, they're actually Really good now?! 😳" and then had to go back and listen to the other stuff they'd released that i'd missed 😭

los campesinos! - all hell: i was soooo excited when this one was announced too, bcos it was my first time experiencing a new los campesinos! album as a fan, and like the cure's album it was also worth the wait!! also finally got to see them for the 2nd time, which was also another awesome experience 🥹

olivia rodrigo - guts: another album from last year.. but i got Rly into it when the spilled edition came out earlier in the year and finally realised how fucking Good it actaully was 😳 and then i felt bad for snubbing it in my 2023 list, so seeing as it's ended up one of my most played albums of this year, i don't feel too bad including it either 😝

sabrina carpenter - short n' sweet: i don't think i'd ever heard of her before this year, but i'm rly glad i got into her cos this album is sooo catchy, and it's ended up being one of my Fav favs of the year 😌

taylor swift - the tortured poets department: the anthology: despite the cure finally releasing "songs of a lost world," i think the tortured poets department still has to be my Album Of The Year 🥳 just such an interesting and ~sprawling~ album, i've listened to it So fucking much that it's the one out of all these that i rly feel has Defined my year, so much so that it's already become one of my most played albums of all time.. oops 🫣

lauren mayberry - vicious creatures: an album that v nrly made this list bcos it fucking rules, but i just didn't feel right including an album that only came out yesterday 😭 i'd been anticipating this one since the first couple of singles came out towards the end of 2023, and as more singles continued to come out over this year, i got even more excited for it!! so i'm so glad it's finally here, even if it just didn't quite make my list 😁

toxic ysosu ... theyve plagued my mind so much ..... i think the biggest thing theo fell in love with was vics passion. they both care so much about opposite things (saving and hating humans) but their passion is both the same, and its something that amazes theo. theo has been surrounded by human haters his whole life, and then pale is kinda in the same territory as them (i dont think he Hates humans but he doesnt like them), so to meet someone who has a completely opposite perspective amazes him. i also think he loves his singing. iirc, vic has a deeper voice, and i imagine theo having a higher voice like this? or like this? havent really thought about it yet but just something higher so hes like "woah ... so deep ... woah ..." and hes also attracted to his looks so :3 yeah sjdlf and idk why but my gut is telling me that it was vic who made the first move maybe? like ik he has this "idrc" personality but i think he like invites them to practice or something and they all do and thats how they started. after that, i think it was theo who kept making sure they hung out, as he enjoyed their dynamic a lot. and i said this in the gc, but i think they have a bakugo and todoroki dynamic kinda, maybe not exactly like the clips in this vid but i just think the vibes. theo def is a cocky lil shit who doesnt really show that he cares that often but he does in like lil ways so vic def knows

honestly depends. dendro reactions are still the best and strongest and haitham rlly hits hard even without his best supports or whatever. kazuha is one of the best supports and always in most teams

are you in need of a main dps? a good dendro dps? do you have a supportive dendro to pair him with? haitham is super strong, against single or bunch of enemies, extremely fast and one of the strongest dps but hes a dendro dps, he needs to stick to specific teams for dendro reactions (2 dendro/2 electro, 2 dendro/1 electro/1 hydro,....→kokomi/furina/xingqiu, nahida/baizhu/yaoyao, raiden/kuki shinobu (i think even fischl? never tried them together tbh))

i think hthm is v friendly regarding team builds (doesnt need specific 5stars altho he does like to run w nahida like many dendro teams do) - just always have one more dendro with him on 4p deepwood

this is my current team w him for funsies, usually i have kokomi in furinas slot

kazuha is amazing support for many teams, like:

national, freeze comps etc

if you already have a good dps like raiden, childe, ayaka, etcetc you can support them w kazuha since their strongest teams often have him. you can never go wrong with having kazuha, he is one of the strongest and friendliest supports (but he isnt necessarily a must have) - i saw some ppl try to make him a main dps and even tho his dmg output isnt comparable to some other its still possible (tho i strongly believe u can make anyone main dps)

tl dr:

if u want a very strong dendro main dps who will carry ur ass and also got nice tits, and ideally have the team to support him for max dmg, go with haitham

if you have a main dps already and wanna support them or want more cc, go with kazuha

haitham is one of the strongest dps but tied to specific teams as a dendro main dps and not versatile in his role (meaning he lit cant do anything else but kill, he is a main dps through and through)

kazuha is one of the best supports and more versatile in his role (support/sub dps or main dps if u wanna invest in that build)

My beloved anon im sorry it took me this long. But i am lazy. No other reason really. So i am now chronicling this dhit on my phone. And oh fuck dude is it a trip

SO. this fuckery began with quackity announcing the QSMP. He did so on the 17th of march and whatever the fuck. He mentioned it earlier than this (edit: just checked but the First announcements was the 10th)

And this is all great. New server that fucks. But what truly started all this. Was dream's tweet on his private twitter.

Im gonna try to be kinda impartial qnd jus. Explain it all as is but first i gotta say who says this shit lmao. So quackity announces his new project and is very passionate about it, he tweets more on his alt(?) About how much it means to him to bring his two languages spanish and english together. And dream on private is like 'wow cool! Guys dont get mad at me when i announce the same thing later tho haha' its just so weird.

But anyways. The usmp wasnt even A Thing. Only written instance of dream makin a multilingual server was in a tweet defending himself from copying quackity. (Altho he allegedly mentions in streams or whatever wanting yo do things w other ppl from other languages? But that shit dont count n im not diggin audio n videos out fuck that).

The actual, official announcement of dream makin a usmp was april 2nd (idk why this says the 3rd but whatever) wherein he announces the 'first multilingual smp' with a list of languages that will be on it such as portugese, spanish, english, russian, etc. And that it has live translation.

The same day, quackity releases a tweet labelling the qsmp as the 'first multilingual smp' and that he is introducing a live translation system to it. Mr beast connects that the usmp and qsmp are similar to which dream responds. Quackity doesnt respond, nor does he acknowledge the usmp at all.

Dream's response is essentially theyre different in that qsmp is spanish and english, he announced his live translator first, they had 'similar good ideas'.

So. This sparked a lot of drama and discussion. Because of the 'first multilingual' bit in that people began discrediting qsmp as it was 'only' english and spanish, and therefore was bilingual and not multilingual. Altho others countered thid by saying quackity himself called it a multilingual server in his streams. Not to mention the idea that the translator was copied but regardless both those things are kinda stupid arguments and just drama inspired by the comparisons.

More notably is that dream team were making fun of the 'first multilingual server' bit after this. Dream was liking some jokes at it as well

Dream also liked some. Vaguely sexual/romantic 'they should just kiss already' art of him and quackity?

Also after this dream started somewhat addressing/replying to quackity more. Quackity didnt respond to any of it.

Most narrowed in on the 'this wouldnt have happened without quackity' and was often interpretted as dream saying quackity HELPED him w it in some way or that there was more collab behind the scenes but we will find that to be false. Because. On april 27th. Dream dropped his magnum opus. Which i will include in one screenshot.

Anyways i seriously encourage reading the full thing here because its. Something. Theres so much. It is literally 1.7k words. A lot of it is repetitive but i will. Try. To summarize it.

Essentially dream is writing that he has been trying to contact quackity for some time now with no response. He has been messaging him about how theyve ended up with similar servers (therefore noting that neither one know of the other). This gets nothing. Dream tries contacting quackity more publically with jokes. Nothing. He starts going through secondary sources by talkin to ppl to message quackity for him (i think some people who dream knows that are on the qsmp. Unsure who) but quackity doesnt say shit. Dream is being absolutely ghosted.

Im also noting this last paragraph in his first tweet where he describes being 'taken back' when quackity announces the qsmp live translator after his usmp announcement, because he 'knew it would cause more drama'.

He says he messages quackity so they can plan how to deal with the 'vitriol' between the teo 'communities' and that the drama can be solved with 'communication'. He is ghosted. He also mentions that he puts the usmp 'on hold' in the 2nd tweet so it all can be dealt with and he can 'extend love and support to quackity'. Most notably he says that its alluded that quackity wouldnt let ppl who were on the usmp couldnt be on the qsmp which dream tries to say makes sense for quackity to do.

Theres apparently a fucking image limit on the tumblr app which ive hit so i am now not using images and speedrunning this shit. But im quoting this one thing exactly as its most important:

Now, obviously, shit blew up. Hes been ratiod a few times by people meming it. Ive seen many people on quackity's 'side' saying that the usmp doesnt even exist yet, dream is the one causing drama, etc. And people on dream's 'side' saying quackity is being horrible and needs address this because its caused dream to be in danger. Most importantly. Quackity didnt address it at all.

But then quackity announced he was going live in an hour. And a lot assumed hed say something. But he didnt. His stream was roughly 15 minutes long and it was entirely quackity announcing that he was introducing brazilian/portugese speaking streamers onto the qsmp.

Anyways. Theres a lot of details but my hand hurts now. A big thing is whether qsmp or usmp was 'first'. Imo theres a lot more pointing towards quackity having had this is store for a longass time, as he had been hinting and a project of his for months and more notably the qsmp is so organized and put together i doubt he couldve had it finished up 'after' dream as dream's nonexistent server was an idea he got after that squidcraft thing in early March i think?

More recently (i think today) i saw that quackity apparently took two emojis off his twitch that were dream roblox characters and i saw people freaking out in r/dwt2 about how quackity could be so petty? But ya. My condolences if youve read all this.

what i have been thinking about recently is my own personal headcanons regarding carles and tilda. bc i don't think it's a stretch to argue that the image we get in-canon is an idealised view of them greatly impacted by their violent deaths (like this is just text. thank you abian). as some of you may be aware i am not especially fond of carles, so this will not be especially charitable to him

i should clarify my personal mont timeline here (assume carles is roughly of an age with tilda his family is 100% less interesting [&less relevant] to me). first we're putting yata's birth at roughly 13 years earlier than it is in canon (so she's ~78 in fotr). we're also making saro a decade older, and moving tilda from fifth to second in birth order. i think i'm putting her and saro as very close in age also. like <18 months. so she was roughly 50 when she died, making her 41 & 43 at the births of balthazar and isaboe, respectively, and (assuming a 15-16 yr age gap between evestalina & isaboe) making her (and carles) roughly 27 when they had their first kid.

ok now that's out of the way. their first meeting. i think this actually went as established in canon they were incredible impulsive lol. good for them. altho i will say that i go for ~25 as the age here, which i think is a bit older than implied. anyway it sort of reads like he's already king by this point and lumatere government + court is incredibly small, so they come back to the palace like 'we're getting married!! 😁😁" and topher's predecessor is sat there head in hands while topher goes out to hunt down some willow bark.

so young adult tilda's spent her whole life in a local position of relative power, since her father's hbic of the monts & saro's his successor (and saro at least is real enough to involve her) + presumably she was involved in whatever yata's job description is. so she rocks up to the palace with smaller-scale experience that can in theory be applied here, and she's used to being listened to. she figures she can clean up shop a bit if necessary.

here's where it starts to get nasty (sorry). i... don't really think she was doing all that well in the palace. like i think carles was a loving & doting husband or whatever the fuck, but i don't think he really listened to her in matters of state. like we know she grit we know she had determination but none of that ever really shines through in terms of policy & stuff. dragon ships foreign policy etc. do not seem to be things she had any influence in & tbh i think the only real in-canon manifestation we can attribute specifically to her is that doggedness you see in isaboe regarding survival of the royal house

i think this is mostly due to carles. if we assume that finnikin's stance on women (while relatively extreme) is derived from more common views in lumatere then it isn't a stretch to assume that carles, while undeniably in love with his wife, maybe didn't respect her as a person quite as much as he thought he did. like he had that same problem wherein he treats valid concerns as just women's business even at the expense of his personal & political clout (you can also argue that this dynamic being modeled for isaboe as the ideal relationship explains why she puts up with finnikin's bullshit as much as she does, even if she does exercise concrete power). so even though this weakens his position & makes him an ineffectual king that's how things proceed.

as a result we have tilda, who loves her husband but is frustrated by his ineffectiveness, exercising authority in the one area left to her: producing an heir. if we assume the same semi-salic succession laws as in belegonia & charyn apply here, then without a son from her the lumateran heir is the future imposter king (i assume this position was why he was captain of the guard despite his conflicting loyalties), who she sees being weak, ineffectual, and frankly dangerous every damn day. but she keeps having daughters. and canonically this weighs on her a lot mentally and physically. even if we don't use my preferred timeline, it certainly reads like there's at least a decade b/w evestalina and balthazar. from her pov she has one job & she can't seem to do it. we don't know when yata started doing the one week on, one week off routine, but i think it's probably because even with all the paid assistance she gets as the queen, even before she had five kids total, tilda was not doing well emotionally. like if i am being honest i think she felt trapped in that palace.

anyway. was carles in any way helpful here? i don't fucking know. he was clearly engaged with his children in the few snippets we get of him, so he would've hopefully been a help on that front, but i don't know how useful he was on a deeper level. like were he and tilda supporting each other in their attempts for an heir, or was he being (from his perspective) helpful in a way that only compounded the pressure she felt (i.e. 'maybe next time' kind of chatter every time they had a daughter/any presumed miscarriages [they defo happened]). & then after she finally manages balthazar she immediately follows it up with a high-risk accidental pregnancy. howd she feel about that (i know yata & seranonna were shitting bricks). like all that effort and now you might die. but then she survived and finally got a kid that looked like her so maybe it was fine idk

i think maybe things did improve after that given 1. the removal of the imposter king both as heir & captain (and his removal to charyn) & 2. the assurance provided by balthazar. though carles was still shit-useless as king so that was presumably a major stressor

tldr tilda was unprepared for both the increased pressure that came with being queen & her husband's failure to take her seriously when she tried to advise him politically, resulting in her focusing all her effort on that front into producing an heir, in a way that was incredibly unhealthy for her on many levels

Art/Writing Update 2.12.2025

Okay okay okay my goal for this year was to do more art and to care less about writing, so I am going to try to make these more art focused instead of writing focused (the other option being to stop doing them entirely and then wither away and drop off the face of the planet)

Art: I may have mentioned this, I don't remember, but I got two new big sets of Procreate brushes for Christmas. I spent a lot of January learning to use the watercolor brushes. On one hand, I was able to make several really nice-looking pieces for my art club, but on the other hand, I found them pretty stressful to use, to the degree that it was hard to get started on stuff. It was very obvious to me why that was the case--the techniques for using them generally required you to do a lot without picking the brush off the page, which I suck at. It's also somewhat destructive--you work a lot on a single layer, and you have to work from light areas to dark. I am a 10,000 layer don't-ruin-or-throw-anything-away sort of artist, so this made me nervous. I am just not good at doing things that are loose or casual--I'm a more painstaking and precise sort of girl. That's not how I *want* to be, it's just how I am.

Anyway, I spent the first part of this week trying out the second new set of brushes, which are supposed to help you do more of a painterly style. I liked these a little better from the get-go, altho I still feel like I am not any good at doing things that involve visible brush-strokes.

I also did a tutorial on how to draw clothing. I am kind of okay at drawing clothing, but I really struggle with stuff like folds and wrinkles and I think I end up often adding too much of that kind of stuff. I mostly did that in preparation of an actual art piece that I had in mind that would build on the Renruki drawing practice I've been doing since the beginning of the year. I actually ended up coloring it using those watercolor brushes I was agonizing over earlier, and it turned out they were a lot more fun for this purpose! Anyway, please go take a look at my cool kids in their heart-shaped sunglasses b/c I'm very proud of it and I would really appreciate it if you'd shoot it a like or a reblog.

I'm kind of waffling a little with where I want to go next with my practice. I definitely need to put in more time drawing faces. I probably need to put in about 1M more hours drawing faces. I'm trying to come up with some ways to make it more fun for me...maybe doing the 3 angles for various time periods/hair styles? Re-drawing some screen shots? I also might want to try out doing some coloring styles? Could even do all of these things in turn. The goal is really just volume and not getting hung up on any one thing. I also have another fairly simple piece in mind that is kind of Valentine's Day-ish and I might be able to do with the painting brushes, idk, idk.

Foreman: He takes over Cuddy's job. This is an interesting end for House because he would've hated the job but Foreman likes it because the rest of it is easier than being House's boss

Cameron: She just fucking leaves to keep doing her job away from House and her ex-husband. Also not v interesting because presumably House had already done that before becoming the House we know

Taub: He has kids! This would've been an interesting character choice (House daydreams about it a few times) but imo boring for the show

Kutner: he dead :( possibly from suicide, possibly from foul play, and possibly related to being closeted but tbh i don't remember if that was mentioned in the show or only in some fanfic. House isn't suicidal because of a combination of big ego and hating everyone else and wanting to save others. Can't leave the meek to inherit the earth if they're all idiots, so House will continue to be around and saving people as long as he is able to. Altho he def could get into a situation where he's wanted dead by people who will make it look like a suicide

Park, Masters, and Adams: they all are on Chase's team, would not have been an interesting end for House because again, presumably he'd been in that position earlier in his career before the show started

Thirteen: leaves her life behind to road trip with her same-gender lover until her disease gets so severe that her lover mercy-kills her, probably in a homoerotic murder-suicide. This is the path House picks but in the role of the lover with Wilson as Thirteen

I can picture wind being a pain in the butt to the school staff while gather kids to cause chaos because of getting bored from sitting in a chair for hours listening to the teacher rant about something and him of course not liking being talked down because of his age and so when he is taken detention he gets in a fight with the teacher which he wins of course and so reader is called to deal with him. Well yeah wind gets to see reader earlier now but reader is looking at him disappointed and tired. Reader gives him a trade offer that if he does good he gets more cuddles and attention from reader everyday and so wind quiets down and behaves more better altho does sleep in some classes because he is bored and so he is dreaming of him and reader having fun in his world with his grandma and sister like a family. In parent conferences I feel like there is a mini fight over who gets to go there help wind with pranks to get wind's side. When it comes to saving money legend sews up the clothes that owns that get ripped tho says it's for saving money but it's really to get close to reader and take some clothes that reader doesn't notice gone but it gets him butting heads with sage as the chain sees his lies but the chains knows he has dirt on them and that they are close. Wars gets thirsty comments from time to time but he always says their is already someone special to him as he talks about them in his videos at times which causes his fans to get the idea he's dating and so they call them lucky but he calls himself lucky. Twilight gets some of the old people from the farmers market to like him as he seems like those good old fellas and which when they see how he has a hand around reader's waist and seem so cuddly towards reader and so they think reader is his partner and when they notice there not married because of the lack of wedding rings, they ask when wedding is coming closing reader's chance to get away altho this does happen with the other open affectionate and possessive links (I'm talking about courage) they don't get as much praise and help to get their point as across other than sky and sage altho sage gets because he is the first and sky is sky. Reader notices how a lot of her stuff that has her scent goes missing but gives the ides its just them trying to find something familiar in this new world but later on reader fully realizes that they have a bunch of yanderes in their house and they want them but maybe they don't fight back because they aren't as strong as the chain even when they don't have magic altho they do have the high ground when running since this world is still new to them but that's the thing they can run but they can't hide and especially when they realize dink is after them too as running is just going to get more people hurt and hiding won't be good for long as the chain was able to get to them from another world, how is another county going to challenge them too harder pluse things are too personal and deep between reader and the links and we aren't going to get started with fierce.

fun fact the way you've described wind going to school is almost a match with my actual younger brother 🙃 (arguably he's even worse than you've described wind) so I am very used to dealing with someone who would rather rip a door off of its hinges than go to school ANSBXKSK but I'd like to think he at least tries for reader as to not upset them or exhaust them. also just promising wind a trip to the sea if it's possible if he gets a decent grade at school you know he'd be at the top of the class in an instant. The chain would most likely all take turns with reader to go for parents evening, but there's also the chance reader simply goes alone making things much more simple.

legend would be stitching up everyone's old clothes, and possibly even taking up embroidery. I can see him getting very upset if he saw that reader already had clothes they'd stitched up themselves however, and there'd be some mixed feelings there for him. what with wanting reader to have better things for themselves and loving the chance to show them how good he is at it. And definitely not getting the chance to mess up sage's clothes. Wars if he ended up live streaming would be pressured to bring reader in front of the camera by his fans but ultimately I think he'd be too selfish to want anyone who doesn't need to see them see them; making his fans ship them even more with how much he "respects their privacy".

also bold of you to assume Sage hasn't already gotten them rings!!! if he got the chance reader wouldn't be able to walk with the amount of jewelry he gives them, and that's not the only way he'd mark his territory, but if reader hadn't gotten a ring it would be a full blown arms race for the chain to get them one. Reader would also be very reluctant to push sage away since I reckon they've already been together for about a year before the chain show up, and are in a very good relationship at that!! so it'd be more likely that the chain push themselves away before driving a wedge in-between reader and sage. If the cursed links were there they'd be the worst for this!!! and they'd be pushing readers limits real quick, not that anything reader sees as bad happens but to them it's like their worlds are ending.

AKSNDN Sky is very much one of my favourites as well, he and sage could have my whole heart within an instant if they asked 💖💖

as for going abroad? the chain could get to reader with magic. if they didn't have that it'd be a lot harder to get them, what with passports and airport security on top of border controls so unless they didn't lose all of their magic then they've got as much of a chance as anyone else. But unless the chain did something very concerning as a yandere or got caught at least I think reader could excuse it as stress or a different culture, I mean they're already writing off a lot of sage's attraction due to that. although it's not impossible for them to realise how deep it goes, it might just take a while for them to see how bad it is.

alright i finished my HF rewatch last night so time to talk about the adaptation, specifically scenes that were cut or changed

gonna be focusing mostly on illya and kirei as i like them and they got done the dirtiest

other characters to consider here are rin, sakura, shirou

rin i think was served well in these movies considering that she's a secondary character with a relatively straightforward role

sakura and shirou are two of the most complex characters in the entire novel, and inevitably some of that is going to be lost in translation, but Sudou heavily focused on ensuring Sakura was not misunderstood and that really shows. as a result there isn't much to talk about with those two in regards to cut content

for illya, though -

the first thing to note here is that she's almost entirely absent from the first movie asides from her initial appearance to fuck shirou up (which is altered slightly w/ her appearing earlier and actually talking to saber outside the church, i liked this change)

but yeah the first movie adapts up to roughly day 9 of the novel, which should include shirou meeting illya on days 5, 6 and 7

instead what happens is that the FIRST meeting with illya occurs in the second movie

now i'd say this adaption of the first meeting is alright, we have shirou's initial hesitation because of her trying to kill him earlier (altho he's a bit more forceful in the VN and illya has to ask whether he hates her or not which is a nice parallel to their first meeting in the Fate route).

the interesting bit here is the ending - shirou asks if she knows kiritsugu and her face goes blank and she walks off

this happens in the VN but what happens next is that Shirou asks illya if he can meet her again. illya is somewhat surprised and mollified by this and as a result tells shirou that she does in fact know kiritsugu - she wants revenge against him and shirou.

this leads really nicely into their second meeting where illya is actually surprised that shirou would turn up after hearing that

it establishes illya's internal conflict between wanting to see shirou but also wanting to kill him/having the duty towards the grail war

she tries to distance herself from him by admitting her real objective but shirou meets her anyway because he can see that she doesn't really mean it - if she actually wanted to kill shirou she could just do it then and there

the rest of their second meeting is taken up by illya showing shirou the way to her castle by projecting his consciousness which is neat but largely cuttable (although it does have a brief moment of illya acting in a older sister-like way towards shirou, which is always nice to set up for later)

the important part here is really that they're having multiple meetings at all, that they're building a relationship alongside whatever shirou is doing with sakura and rin

but the thing is that in the movies the last part of their first meeting is cut - illya doesn't admit to wanting to kill shirou or knowing kiritsugu

this is saved for the next time they meet in the movies which is when shirou is wandering around in the rain wondering what to do about sakura

basically their more extensive relationship in the novels is turned into this 2 beat thing where 1. illya is kind to shirou but scared off by the name of kiritsugu and 2. illya admits that she wanted to kill shirou because of kiritsugu but now she's totally on his side

indeed the dialogue kind of implies she's on his side because he's trying to save sakura, when what's really going here is that he hasn't made the decision yet but she's unconditionally on his side anyway, due to the bond they formed in previous meetings

illya knows that shirou is a kind person who tries to help those close to him. that's really all she needs to like him and seeing someone have that much faith and support for him is part of what prompts shirou to do the same for sakura. i'm worried this isn't conveyed as effectively in the movie version

the thing is that their third meeting (before this one) is actually really important

shirou forgets to come to the park so illya chases after him. she's actually mad he forgot about it instead of being surprised he'd bother with her at all. she's quick to accuse him of being a liar and breaking his promise because she's used to people betraying and abandoning her. shirou has to try and make it up to her (if you choose the wrong option here she actually bad ends you in your next meeting)

there are two versions of this scene, one where shirou invites her back to his house and they go on a quick tour that ends with illya crying when she realises kiritsugu really isn't there anymore. she's alienated from her emotions, surprised to see her own tears

the other i'd consider more important - shirou promises to be illya's 'servant' and follow an order from her. it turns out that all she wants is to go shopping together

what illya wants is a normal family life that she's been denied for so long, and the tragic thing about that scene is that she still can't have it, she still has to put on a strong face and pretend to be happy even as they both realise that once this is over they'll have to go back to being enemies. this is where shirou realises that her usual persona is something of an act and she's actually far more resigned to despair than any other character in the story

this scene is remarkably similar to another scene that comes up later (which is also cut from the movies lmao) called Lorelei - it occurs after Illya gets rescued and is living with Shirou. Here, they also go shopping. Here, shirou also questions illya's cheerful facade. But this time he actively asks whether illya wants to stay at his place after the war, and she has to confirm to him that like him and sakura, she's basically doomed. her lifespan isn't that long. the difference is that nobody is trying to save her in the way that she wants to save shirou or shirou wants to save sakura.

some of that dialogue is put into the movies near the end, when shirou is about to leave to go fight sakura. it's a nice little movie-original moment, with illya having shirou lean down so she can pat his head, and re-emphasizes the elder sister-like tone of her half-joking request to 'bring sakura home with him before it gets dark'. that line is really elevated in this context, it's a good change

but the subsequent stuff just doesn't hit as hard without the full awareness of illya as a tragic character, someone who fully accepted her role as a grail, who accepted that she was going to be used by zouken and sakura, who shirou has to actively try and convince to not give up on her life, and in the end only comes to save him because of that influence

there are a few other illya scenes that are skipped during the day 11-14 period (i.e. second half of movie 2). none of them are terribly important but i think taken together you begin to see that illya is almost as important to shirou as sakura, that he's aware of her nature as a homunculus and as the grail and as someone who had a very strong reason to want to kill him - and he doesn't care. he still sees her as a person

now i want to talk about kirei for a bit but hopefully i get back to illya before the end

all of kirei's important scenes are there in the movies in some form, but a lot of important dialogue gets lost

when shirou goes to see him in the church the second time, after fighting rider, the focus is on kiritsugu (which is admittedly important) but we lose kirei's 'advice' to shirou, when he expresses discomfort at the whole concept of the grail war. he says that everyone has wishes that they want to fulfill, that even in everyday life people fight to do so. obtaining the grail is simply a shortening of that process, a completely natural action. for kirei, fighting and trampling over other people's wishes is only a matter of course. the most 'worthy' is the one that obtains the grail in the end

i think this is an interesting piece of characterisation for him, and he feels flatter without it

similarly, the mapo tofu scene is changed quite significantly, as it's moved to the second movie when normally it would be within the parts covered by the first. as a result, much of their conversation is taken up by talk of the Shadow (which hadn't been revealed fully before then) rather than the more interesting part in the VN, Kirei's discussion of his wish for the grail.

he says he doesn't have a wish but a goal, that his goal is pointless if he achieves it himself, and then goes on to compare himself to shirou, saying that as neither of them have clear wishes, they can't reach salvation.

i think this is actually key to understanding both kirei's motivations and the similarity between him and shirou - neither of them really know what they would use the grail for. kirei knows that he desires despair and destruction, but what he really wants is to know whether a broken person like himself has the right to exist

shirou knows that he wants to save people, but he can't just use the grail to wish for people to be saved - he wants to become a hero himself.

moving along, kirei's backstory is also heavily truncated, skipping over much of the discussion of his childhood. i find this part interesting in the VN because it notes that the real issue for him was not his twisted nature directly, but rather his common sense that made him realise his feelings were unnatural and wrong. if he had been a pure kind of evil, unaffected of the opinions of society, created specifically for the purpose of causing destruction - in other words, like the Angra Mainyu that he is trying to make Sakura give birth to in HF - would he still have regrets? would he be able to forgive himself?

the second part of his backstory occurs during his fight with Assassin, where he reminisces about his wife, who killed herself to prove that he loved her, but failed, as he didn't feel sad because of her death, instead wishing to have been the one to kill her

the details are all the same in the VN (but note that 1. he was on the point of killing himself before claudia did the same and 2. her death was what put him on the path of embracing villainy. this is relevant because her death did actually have a massive effect on his life, if she meant to stop him from killing himself with it then it worked)

however, the narration is much less clear about the verdict, here. the movie narration ends with 'i wanted to kill her myself'. fade to black, question closed.

in the VN the question of whether i really loved her is something that continues to pursue kirei even into the present day. he tries not to think about it, because despite everything he doesn't want to consider her death as worthless

the thing about having kirei as a parallel to shirou in Heaven's Feel of all routes is that this is the one where Shirou abandons the part of his nature which Kirei considers similar to himself

and so the question remains of whether kirei could do the same. he doesn't, of course. the time has long since passed. claudia was his sakura.

but when he confronts shirou in that underground cavern you have to understand him as someone who failed to do something that shirou is currently risking his life for

this, really, is the point of their fight. Kirei insists they are the same. he likes doing that, because it makes him feel a bit less alone in the world.

kirei has this line in the VN that goes something like 'this fight is pointless, because we're both going to die anyway. neither of us have a purpose or a wish to be fulfilled at the end, we're just following the same empty way of life that we've had all this time'

but shirou knows they're not. he's fighting for something beyond himself. he wants to protect sakura, not simply destroy angra mainyu.

in the VN kirei is absolutely kicking shirou's ass. it's not even close. Shirou is hard to kill because his body is literally made of swords, but kirei completely outclasses him in terms of physical ability.

the fight is not about overcoming kirei, its about shirou being able to overcome himself and endure longer than kirei does. in the VN what gives him this burst of strength is memories of sakura.

shirou can't die if he wants to save sakura. sakura can't be happy without him. that's the point of the kirei fight, it's why it doesn't appear if you're on the road to the normal ending, it's the thing that shirou can only overcome if he wants to live

does this come across in the movie version at all? i struggle to imagine it

and it's vitally important to the next scene as well, where illya steps in to save him. the whole point is that shirou learns the value of his own life and is capable of honestly wishing to live because he finally, finally gets the point that other people care about him too, and would be hurt if he was gone

the resolution of Heaven's Feel, and Fate/Stay Night as a whole, is in Shirou learning to be a person rather than a sword, realising that the kind of hero he wants to be is one who protects the people he loves

sakura, in this route, is afraid of hurting shirou, but not just on a physical level - she admires his heroism, she sees a great inner strength in him, and she thinks that if she makes him pick her over everyone else that part of him will be broken

shirou is the one that has to walk towards her, while sakura attempts to push him away with self-deprecating words, even though she deeply needs him to save her

this dynamic is given physical expression in the final liberation scene, after sakura and rin's fight is over

angra mainyu attacks shirou, trying to push him away as sakura can no longer fully control it. she's afraid of hurting him so she tells him to leave, that she can die on her own

and the tendrils skid off shirou harmlessly. his body is almost completely metal, now. he can endure most things

shirou comes right up to sakura, and with a smile on his face tells her that it's alright, that he's doing this because he wants to, that he's not breaking himself for her, this is actually the purest possible expression of his ideals

in the VN, you don't get to see shirou very often. you constantly look out at the world from shirou's PoV, are confronted with the faces of everyone besides him - people he has to fight, people he has to save

and here, in the culmination of three routes' worth of character development, he turns around and looks directly at the reader, the first time we see him smiling

they don't include a reproduction of this CG in the movie. i guess it wouldn't really have the same impact.

You see this right here, this is the type of reblog that is one of the most immature and obnoxious. Not only because it’s personal insult devoid of any actual critique of anything that was said, that’s just vomited out on a whim, although that’s plenty shallow and catty and toxic in itself

(ie no reasoning, no intellect, just strictly ‘vibes’, which is a silly way to go about life)

I also notice this thing going on in the Notes- which I’ve seen before and now gonna speak more fully on- people do this thing of alluding to an earlier era of Tumblr- that they were there for- which not everybody was. And being an asexual spectrum person, it’s a /damn/ good thing I wasn’t, (and I don’t use ‘damn’ much) because by all accounts, lasting psyche damage was done as ace spec people were driven off the platform by widely normalized bigotry, ie, ace spec denial and ace exclusionism from the lgbt.

One might call it micro-kyriarchy.

So, anyway, since some of us weren’t here for that, when people talk like this, they appear to //think// they’re conveying some sort of information, when actually they aren’t.

The three letters “ugh” would’ve sufficed and communicated the exact same level of meaning.

They’re lazy. Can’t be bothered to explain what they mean. Or actually engage. Just wanted to spout off.

And if you’re next-generation or late to Tumblr for some /other/ reason? Congrats, toxic people like this are gonna do the same thing, ~vaguely~ potshot and refuse to engage with you based on rules you don’t even know!

Sure, if all their followers are the Good Old Boys equivalent of then-prejudiced Tumblr, they probably have an inkling of what they mean. But for all of those reading who weren’t there, these phases are entirely meaningless, simply empty words spoken.

Gonna use this post to tag people who do this crap in the future because every time it happens it’s so … well … “ugh.”
