(wrote a little something for our anniversary.. happy 3 year anni malleus <33)
It was a dark night, just like all those nights ago, when the fireflies lit up the sky and two lonely souls met for the first time.
Amia stood at the window, her frame almost wrapped up completely in the black curtain as she pressed her hand to the glass, a furrow to her brow as she took in the sight below her.
Briar Valley was just as dark and damp as most people described it in tales, but it wasn't scary. It was...comforting. Safe. A home in a land that Amia never knew they could call home until now.
Fwoosh!
The familiar green glow, the pressure of his magic, did not go unnoticed to her, but she didn't move from her spot. She stayed still, rooted in place, waiting for him to come.
They knew he always would.
When she felt his arms wrap around her, she didn't panic or startle. She simply smiled, turning her head to look up at him.
Malleus.
Their fiance, at the moment. Soon to be husband. It was almost insane to think about, something that three years ago they could never imagine.
But the stone sat comfortably upon her ring finger, and she caught a glimpse of his matching one as he tightened his grip on her, his face pressed into her neck. He let out a weary sigh, a tell-tale sign that he had a long day.
They chose not to comment on it, though. They simply smiled, leaning their head against his in a comforting motion, resting their hands over his and gently squeezing.
"Do you know what today is?"
Malleus perked up at that, and she could feel the smile blooming across his lips, the way his body sunk even deeper into hers.
"Were my gifts this morning not enough of an indication that I'm very aware of the date?"
Amia laughed, rolling their eyes as they turned to press a kiss right on his forehead scales, tenderly brushing his hair back with a smile.
"To be fair, you give me gifts almost everyday. We barely have room for all of them anymore."
"It is our castle, you know. I could always make more room."
"No, no, everything you've done for me is already enough."
Malleus simply smiled at that, and Amia sighed, shutting her eyes as she leaned into him, her mind racing with memories.
Memories full of their time together, of hopelessly pining after someone they never believed would like them back, of finally taking the leap and becoming each other's everything, of leaving their old school behind just to come live together and be a human queen over fae one day.
It was a rollercoaster, to be sure. Something that Amia never could've imagined would ever be possible.
But looking at the fae before her, she knew it very much was possible. And sure, did it feel like a fairytale a lot of the times? Absolutely.
But when he leaned into them like that, nudging his forehead against theirs, they were reminded this was real, as nonsensical as it felt at times.
"I still can't believe it's been three years." Amia muttered, brushing her hand against his cheek.
Malleus was quick to catch their wrist, turning to press a kiss to their palm. "Usually, years flow by like sand to me. I've never been one to find time that remarkable, but with you.. I find myself reliving each and every moment we've spent together."
Amia's face flushed, and she couldn't help the soft laugh that escaped her.
"I love you, Mal. Happy anniversary."
Malleus grinned, that sweet, almost shy smile that always set Amia's heart aflutter, as he leaned down to capture their lips in a gentle kiss.
"I love you too, my dearest child of man. Happy anniversary."
