You were just about to head into the forest, when a voice caught your attention.

Battling Leon? Well… If you beat him, the victory will sure feel good. Maybe you can even rub it in a little and watch his face drop.

So you agreed.

The battle was fierce, both teams fought violently but also passionately. In the end… You came out victorious!

Leon chuckled as he sent his final Pokemon away, “That was really great! Thanks!”

You nodded and sent your final Pokemon away. You were surprised when he walked closer to you.

Leon sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, “Hey… Would you wanna… Hang out some time? Maybe not to battle but if you want to…”

That was the last thing you wanted, but you didn’t wanna be rude to him. You may hate him, but he’s being so nice! Even if it is all an act…

So you nodded, “Sure. You know where to find me.”

And he sure did. He found you… Multiple times. He would come see you after matches, hang out with you in the Wild Area, you guys even ran into each other at the library once!

Slowly but surely, your hate for Leon diminished… and was replaced with the biggest crush of your life. He was so sweet and charming! So funny and handsome… He was perfect.

So when he asked you to battle again a few months after your first one, you rapidly agreed. Anything for Leon’s validation!

You won, again, and he came over to you with a chuckle.

“Great job as usual.” He smiled and held out his hand for a handshake.

You looked up at him, your fingers centimeters away from touching.

That was when you blurted out:

Same anon who sent the ask about Drayton having a fear of ice types/the cold, I gave you angst but now I bring fluff

Crispin might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but he’s definitely picked up on how Drayton is around ice types/the cold even if drayton denies it, EVERYONE knows what happened in opelucid city, Crispin would be more surprised if Drayton wasn’t traumatized from that experience so Crispin often distracts Drayton whenever Crispin visits the polar biome! He also lets his Pokemon out “to get a breath of fresh crisp air” but really it’s to warm Drayton up since they just radiate heat and spook off any ice types, he himself also isn’t shy about just hugging Drayton when he can (fire type trainers also run hot fr) so he’s got toasty hugs!!! Crispin does try to be subtle about his distractions and warming up Drayton as he doesn’t want Drayton to push him away and keep his fears even more locked up! He wants to support his friend!!!

ngl, i feel like one reason i love pokemon horizons so much is because of how much i can relate to liko. i saw some of your ask responses/posts about liko's character development and how others have some rather negative opinions on it. so, i was so curious to see how the episode would play out.

after watching the episode today, i personally think that what liko did does not ruin her development at all? i think it's fair, in the sense that liko is still in the midst of figuring out her path. i don't think her progress needs to be linear, and like kabu said, there is so much to learn from failure.

i also find that these seemingly sudden changes are realistic. on a personal level, even i act in different ways than i and others expect. in an academic setting, most people perceive me as confident and assertive because i lead projects and recite a lot, but there are times i hesitate out of fear (what if i can't do it? what will others think of me? what if my professor/supervisor thinks i'm incapable/stupid?). i've also experienced passing up the opportunity to someone else, only to regret it later and wish i stepped up.

liko feels very much like a younger sister to me, because i understand what it's like to grow up and how COMPLICATED that process is. personally, i think it's great that they add some moments like this in her journey. anyway, yeah these are my thoughts!

Honestly you put the words right into my mouth! Character development and growth isn't always linear! Sometimes I feel like those who are 'critical' about Liko's character forget that she's still ultimately a kid, a preteen at best. That's an age where you're continuously learning about yourself, trying to figure out who you are. Liko's a kind hearted, considerate girl. We've seen since episode one that she's the sort who overthinks, thinking that what she's doing is the best course of action but ultimately she didn't realize she wasn't considering the feelings of those around her.

What I feel like is one of Horizons' biggest strengths is that they touch upon topics that both kids and adult could relate to. Friede finding that being a professor isn't all that cracked up to be. Losing a friend over a disagreement. Showing kids that adults aren't totally different from them, that it's normal for them to cry too. Liko still figuring out her path, that there's even success in failures because you've got an opportunity to grow from it instead of it being a do-or-die situation.

You can fail. You can grow. You can achieve. I love how these themes are shown in the episodes.

And you're totally right about how complicated the process of growing up is! Even when you reached adulthood, it's still a work in progress to learn who you are, what you want, what your dreams are. It's nice to know that you see Liko as a younger sister! I too see her as one who I want to help her navigate through the intricacies of growing up.

Guess you can call me feather anon or 🪶! I’m in my early twenties and first discovered Viv through her Die Young video. I loosely followed her after that, I really liked watching her speed paints and I’d watch some of the other short animations she’d post. I really enjoyed her art style for how expressive and colorful it was- I know we all like to poke fun at the whole “sparkle dog design” thing but I think if Viv continued to strive for improvement then her art really could have been something fun, colorful, and eye catching! My brain always connected it to those Lisa Frank books and stickers-

I’m an artist and a writer, though it’s hard to find the time to engage with them as much as I want to. I love storytelling and analyzing media- I think it’s fun to critique things and it helps me develop my own skills as a storyteller. I like to try and find the positives in media and focus on the things I like, but it is fun (and healthy!) to be a little hater sometimes.

I really did enjoy the concept of Hazbin Hotel presented by the pilot- it was clearly a labor of love- and I really did enjoy the first season of Helluva before Viv decided to start retconning and dropping all the previous set up that drew people to the show in the first place.

I have my own stories I would love to develop sometime in the future- likely through webcomics or just plain writing. I love fantasy and dnd-type settings. I am obsessed with horror and gore- body horror is right up my alley and I love creature features and monsters! I am a monster lover to my soul <3 very aroace but I would romance a dragon if given the chance!!

Don’t think there much beyond that. hi cynthia different person from the other anon here but i'd like to throw my hat into the ring with my team. i've been here before, i think.. but i'm a cringefail cultural anthro student who's a pretty decent trainer in my spare time! :)

so my team consists of a Golurk, a Porygon-Z, an Umbreon, an Oricorio usually in Baile Style but we switch it up now and again, a Falinks, and a Roserade, whom I usually lead with! If you want more details like movesets and stuff I'll be happy to provide :)

Oh, I remember you, hello again! (You actually sent this ask in first, so I'm getting around to it first, it's been a busy day but I love thinking about these things.)

Hmm, alright. Overall, that does seem fairly balanced, you don't have any typing overlaps—typically my advice is to either have no overlapping types or pick a type and run with it.

Unless you've seriously pissed me off—which is very difficult to do without being part of and/or leading a team causing problems for Sinnoh on purpose—I tend to start out with my Spiritomb.

Depends on the moveset, of course. Roserade can, for instance, learn Dazzling Gleam... though I'd personally opt for poisoning over outright trying to knock out a more defensive pokemon like Spiritomb myself... ultimately, that could go either way. No real advantages on either side, apart from the advantage of obscurity/people not being able to figure out what type Spiritomb is, and in the interest of fairness I'll assume you know.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that your Roserade was able to poison my Spiritomb—either via Poison Point or a move—but did go down shortly afterwards. Your best bet against Spiritomb would be either the Umbreon or the Porygon-Z... let's go with Umbreon, my girlfriend has an Umbreon, he's a cuddlebug and a pretty good battler.

Umbreon takes my Spiritomb down, at which point my own best option is either my Togekiss (preferable) or my own Roserade.

...Unfortunately for your Umbreon, that particular pokemon doesn't learn any moves for countering fairy-types or flying-types. Your best option there would probably be to stall as much as possible, and/or chip away at my Togekiss's defenses as much as possible.

Now, you've got a Togekiss to handle. Your Roserade honestly would have been an okay option here, if not an ideal one - it would be a matter of which pokemon was faster in knocking out the other, and Roserade tend not to be trained for their speed - but it's a moot point, your Roserade is already knocked out in this hypothetical scenario.

...You don't really have any ideal options here, but you have some worse options. Falinks is weak to both of Togekiss's types. Golurk is a ground-type going up against a flying-type, which can work out but tends not to in my experience. Porygon-Z, again, depends on the moveset, but you could get lucky with Conversion-2 (or you could already have an electric-type move in their moveset, the Porygon line learns quite a lot of electric moves for a non-electric pokemon) so that's a viable option.

I'd, personally, go with your Oricorio. Baile style is... fire-type, correct? Those are resistant to fairy-type moves, which would mean that both of the move types my Togekiss would do the most damage with would do less damage to that pokemon specifically.

(The... I can't remember what the electric-type Oricorio style is, that could also work, but then Togekiss would still be able to do quite a lot of damage with fairy-type moves alone. If you're going on the defensive, you don't want to do that by halves.)

Flying-type moves wouldn't do very much, but a fire-type Revelation Dance would. It would be close, but I think your Oricorio might just be able to come out on top.

...Granted, your Oricorio would also likely go down immediately against my Milotic. Here's where I really hope your Porygon-Z knows an electric-type move, but either way you might struggle. She's bulky. Very, very bulky, and unless you planned on that ahead of time with Conversion, you wouldn't be getting any sort of boost to that electric move's effectiveness, either.

Falinks would be a better option than Golurk, here, simply because of Golurk's weakness to water. If your Porygon did enough damage ahead of time, you likely could take my Milotic out quickly... at which point I would pull out my own Roserade.

Falinks learns a couple of bug moves, but First Impression can only be used... well, first! And assuming you've already either used it or not against my Milotic, your other option is Megahorn. Which, well... it's a powerful move, but it tends to miss more often than the science claims it should, let's put it that way. I prefer to avoid powerful-but-risky moves like that myself, these days.

My Roserade would, in all likelihood, take down your Falinks. Which leaves you with only your Golurk, and I with my Roserade and my Garchomp.

...At that point, I'm afraid, unless you and your Golurk were particularly lucky, you've already all but lost. I like sending out my Garchomp last (or close to last) for a reason, and that reason is twofold. One, to get any ice-types that people think they're being smart with out of the way early. Two, because she is very, very, very good at mopping up whatever my other pokemon have left for her.

Honestly, though, you do have a fairly well-balanced team. Also, I should clarify, this is entirely speaking in hypotheticals, one can never really predict the outcome of a battle before it begins.

You should come by the League sometime. It'll be fun. :)

I don't have exact timestamps for asks. There might be an extension that does that, but if so I've never used it. Tumblr just tells me how many minutes/hours it's been since an ask was sent. And then when they get posted is always going to depend on what I've got going on. I’m kinda going back to the my characters + pokemon thing especially the teams I made for them (the ones with the themes and the ones before that)

I forgot I put giving Toryn James’s pokemon in [https://www.tumblr.com/return-to-twisted-wonderland/766457270701834240/anon-a-few-pokemon-i-think-my-characters-would] but I still agree tbh. You know how James constantly got bitten by Vitrebell, Carvana, and Marenie? (I misspelled all of those I bet.) Yeah, out of anyone, Toryn would be the one to end up with a pokemon like that. Poor Toryn.

I also see Toryn with a shiny Mareep specifically as his first. He finds it stuck somewhere and saves it. After that it just doesn’t leave him. He shows it to Vil who just is completely done about how Toryn’s first Pokemon is a shiny.

But he has a pink little sheep that evolves into different pink sheep. I imagine the mareep is like Toryn but actually stands its ground so everyone teases Toryn that he should take lessons from it. But it’s also helpful using its fluff and its light and electricity. (Toryn uses it to charge his phone if he forgot and has no other options.)

I also a, reminded by the fact I gave Ruse a pichu. Ruse thinks any pokemon he has is top tier even if it’s whole dex entry is about how it can’t control its own powers.

Also I wrote about it before, but Ruse’s first pokemon is definitely a Sewaddle and there is nothing behind its eyes until it decides it wasn’t to protect Ruse. I love Victory with all my heart. Ruse does too.

I imagine Ruse first gets pokemon like Minccino, Indeedee, Levany (of course), and Alcremie and stay there for a bit. Then he realizes how awesome bug types are and suddenly the rest of his team is a rotating bit of bug types. He never lets go of his original team. Though I still like the idea of Type:Null/Silvally and the elemental monkeys, so those are probably in there somewhere.

Dragon, she’s a dragon. Grass, she grew up in a forest and became a sort of “forest protector”, even fighting against some new inventions that harmed the forest like a rail road company throng to cut it down for a steam engine. Psychic, I can’t put it into exact words, but her toxic positivity and how she manipulates situations and words to feed it and feed her mental state of taking care of everyone, manipulating them, unintentionally and semi unknowingly, that she can do everything for them. Dark, she’s a night fae and her connection to the night kept her going. Normal, probably the weakest idea, but I think she would want to protect normal types since they don’t have special powers and are “weaker”.

Suna - don’t know - honestly no type really fits him in a way others wouldn’t, and I could make a very weak case for a lot of types. Weaker than what I gave for Malynne.

Gospel concepts (that definitely, totally isn't just my sona)

Sentinel has a type and it's goth adjacent femmes who could bend him, istg. speaking of, though, Arachnid is still in this because if you think my lesbian aft doesn't want her too, you don't know me well enough. she's in the background for a while, until our beloved monsterfucker evolves pokemon style to monsterlover and is spending a lil too much time w/ Gospel. Arachnid gets suspicious- definitely not concerned, by the way- and decides to check on them, ya know, for political appearance reasons.

she hasn't met Gospel yet, but knows of her from Sent. she doesn't fully understand her boss' interests, but he writes a very generous check for her to keep quiet about them so it's nothing to fuss about. it only gets annoying when it impedes their work, like now. realistically, what could be so interesting about the quintessons' priest that it means spending cycles away from Iacon-

thinking of your older posts about him having a fantasy of giving his body as payment to the quintessons, and of how the quints have some tie to Unicron depending on the continuity (iirc) so,, the quints giving Sent to a high figure that's closer to Unicron, either a priest or oracle or smthn else religious, ethereal. the quints hope offering a suitor will put them in good graces.

the figure accepts more-so out of pity than anything, oddly kind despite their circumstances. to Sent, they look like a warped reality packaged in a living being, altered but familiar. some parts are cybertronian, others are deep space bending into a barely comprehensible shape. and Sentinel is more than willing to serve them.

he learns that her chosen name is Gospel and that there's a growing part of him that wants her to walk him like a dog. metaphorically but, hell, maybe literally too. she's initially disinterested, a little annoyed even, but his attentiveness and need to please brews her curosity. they learn about each other and begin to genuinely care in their own odd ways.

that care, though, roots many thoughts for Sent. what if they have to consummate their relationship for whateved reason? would Gospel be okay w/ that? what would that entail? his processor is running on all cylinders as he thinks of the possibilities

oooooh, the idea of sentinel being head over heels for some sort of holy figure is really good! especially given his whole obsession with those more powerful than him. if he folded to the quintessons, imagine how down bad he'd be for someone more religious.

i also just... really like the idea of him being seduced by some sort of religious/holy figure. (which, i know unicron is pretty much the devil in cybertronian lore, but i mean holy to the quintessons, you get the drill) he tries so hard to be this perfect hero to cybertron, but then eagerly drops to his knees to worship someone who's essentially the cybertronian equivalent of an eldritch god

ooc post- i wanted to compile the areas where my own personal pokemon lore contradicts with that of the canon of the games!

(also, im a little paranoid of this coming off as vagueing anybody in the inbox whose sent in asks about these topics- please dont take it that way if you have sent in something like that! the whole point of this blog is to provide interesting explanations for odd pokemon stuff, and all of the following is certainly odd pokemon stuff warranting explanation. these topics are just things i can't reconcile with my own version of the canon, or i think are more interesting when changed.)

so the majority of stuff i post here is additive to the canon. extra supplemental stuff that can slot into what we know about pokemon from the games, is the intention. i try to take almost everything the pokedex says at face value, save for perhaps some exaggeration on the numbers (mostly temperatures..). buuuuut for the sake of my own fun and cohesiveness of my own little version of canon, i've changed a few things.

upon reflection like...almost all of this has to do with the breeding system, lmao. so in the game, every single pokemon that's able to breed does so by laying eggs. they all have large eggs that hatch into large offspring, implying few offspring are produced with relatively high investment (k-selection).

i think this really flattens the interesting ways that organisms reproduce. there's a lot of bizarre, neat ways that things make more of themselves and making every single pokemon capable of reproduction have the same reproductive strategy is just boring!! so im throwing it out the window goobyebye

and then there's egg groups. the fact that entirely different species can breed with one another (not counting pokemon like tauros/miltank illumise/volbeat and so on where the males and females of presumably the same species are counted as different pokemon due to extreme dimorphism), with the female passing down the species.

i tried for a while to make a way this works that's interesting to me, but couldn't really land on anything. i'm sure there are folks out there who could create an interesting and cohesive spec-bio world where organisms use a reproduction system like this, but i'm not that person. so, for my purposes here, pokemon can only reproduce with members of their own species. (except for ditto. ditto's weird, and in a fun way. i'm still trying to come up with a reason for ditto's Whole Thing. but i want to keep ditto's whole thing intact, and removing the idea of egg groups makes it even weirder and unique among other pokemon. i'll figure some reason for why it can do that.)

also worth noting here are non-living pokemon. object pokemon, ghost pokemon that are canonically spirits, those sorts. these pokemon can often breed. yamask, for example- my personal favorite ghost pokemon- as a kind anon pointed out, is canonically the risen spirit of humans from hundreds of years prior...but it can also breed and produces eggs. in my eyes, only one of these things can be true, and i prefer to keep the ghosty stuff, because i find it much more fun. so, in my own little pokemon world, ghost pokemon like yamask, drifloon, or sinistea which are said to be actual spirits don't reproduce like normal creatures, and are instead created directly from Ghostses

lastly are Bullshit Gender Ratios. pretty much just pokemon that are entirely male or entirely female without an interesting reason. i absolutely hate the trend of any vaguely "feminine" looking pokemon being an all-female species. tsareena, tinkaton, jynx, lilligant, so on. there are some interesting ways animals can be all-female, mainly via the process of parthenogenesis, when a creature produces offspring without fertilization. this is most famous in vertebrates like the new mexico whip-tail lizard, an all-female species in real life. but it seems almost always when there's an all-female pokemon species..it's literally just because it looks girly, or less often all-male species looking manly (ie the hitmons and sawk+throh). and that ticks me off SO much, i don't like it one bit, so most single-gender species (not counting things with diverging evos like mothim [which is notably based directly on real bagworms, it's really neat] or salazzle) i'm treating as if they had normal gender ratios.

(sidenote, and something i'll probably make an in-character post on at some point- mandibuzz was an inadvertent prediction of this, which i find pretty fun.. mandibuzz is an all-female vulture pokemon, and only last year it was discovered that california condors are apparently capable of parthenogenesis. nice call, gamefreak.)

additionally, all-male species just straight up do not exist in nature. like, i don't want to entirely strike them from my canon, i'm sure i can figure out something .. but idk, stuff like braviary which is just a normal-ass bird, i see no interesting reason or explanation for it to be all-male.

Original request was asking for a reader basically being reverse Hisui'd. Coming to Galar from the past with a team of past pokemon and Raihan finding them and helping. Reader is basically amazed with all the new pokemon that weren't present before, things like trains, etc. For this canon let's say Reader had amnesia when they were transported to Hisui and then they get yeeted back and all their memories are of Hisui. Still the main mc of PLA.

I also wanted to make them a gremlin because things from Hisuian times wouldn't fly now and days. Like scaling a mountain, yeeting handmade pokeballs while stalking pokemon, and free flying with no safety equipment basically.

Sorry for the long introduction. This piece was actually so much fun to write you don't even know. Wish I could make it longer but with all the other requests I got I just don't have time to spend hours on a single fic.

SFW Raihan: Reverse Hisui'd Reader

You thought the weirdest thing you'd have to do was personally dance with Arceus, trying not to die with just you against a god. No...that was just the beginning of the weirdness. You had lost all memory when you came to Hisui, much like Ingo, but you did know that pokemon battling basically ran in your blood. You knew too much unconsciously about the creatures to say it's coincidence.

It's why you were the one who tamed all the beasts and saved the world. You were chosen by literal god to do this task, and in return he snatched all your memories. The only thing you had to recall it was the Arc Phone you held dear to you, and the strange clothes you came in.

After your battle with Arceus, things had gone black. You were honestly concerned you might have somehow died. No. You didn't. Instead you woke up in a field with a biome you weren't used to with giant buildings off in the distance. Something even grander than what the Galaxy team could've ever roped together, that much you were sure about.

Then you met a trainer in equally strange garb who towered over you. He was taller than the commander, that was for sure, and you had to crane your neck to look up at him.

"Yo...you look lost. You okay?" His way of speaking was equally as strange. He was kind enough to begin taking you to the town when you suddenly stopped, grabbing his arm and pointing.

"What is that?" You said, eyes bulging open as the little pokemon ran off in the distance. It reminded you of a growlithe, but there was no way. You had an Arcanine on your team and the pre-evolution looked nothing like that.

"The growlithe?" Raihan asked, putting his hands in his pockets and giving you a curious look. You nodded your head, confused as you just stared at the creature.

"Is it sickly? Why does it look like that?" You asked, feeling the need to grab your giant research book to pull out and make some notes. Perhaps it was born disfigured.

"It looks healthy to me...and it's parent is right over there anyway." Raihan said, pointing to the Not-Arcanine. Your jaw dropped as you looked between him and the Not-Arcanine.

"That's not...here!" You said, fiddling with your satchel and grabbing the one you had etched a little symbol into so you knew who was inside the ball. Raihan was about to ask about your ancient looking pokeball when you tossed out your actual Arcanine. The way it's supposed to look.

Your team was full of Alpha's so you knew they'd be bigger than the other Arcanine, but the appearance. It was night and day. Raihan actually stumbled back a few paces, looking at the giant pokemon. The Arcanine was almost two feet taller than him and instead of the signature white and orange fur, it was black and red. It even visually looked different. He had never seen an Arcanine that size when it wasn't gigantamaxed.

"That's an Arcanine...an alpha one but an Arcanine nonetheless." You said, walking up to said pokemon. The giant beast lowered its head so you could pet the fluffy fur and Raihan was certain he was in a coma of some kind.

"We should...this isn't normal. We need to head back to town." Raihan said, running his hand through his dreads. You hummed and turned to him, deciding that the best way to get around would be to just ride Arcanine. You were certain your flute wouldn't summon Wyredeer, and it wasn't like you had never ridden Arcanine before. Just about any pokemon big enough could be a ride pokemon in your opinion.

Arcanine lowered itself and you climbed in top, offering a hand to the strange man you met, "Need a hand, this will be faster." You offered. Raihan noticed a distinct lack of any sort of saddle. You were really just going to hope for the best. He heard people in Alola used 'Ride Pokemon' but from what he knew, they always had saddles or safety equipment of some kind.

"I'll be good...but you might want to put Arcanine away once we reach town. We don't need anyone freaking out."

Well that was your first clue that you were no longer in Hisui. That and the technology. You were astonished when Raihan pulled out a device that looked almost like your Arc Phone but distinctly different.

You had no idea where you were...but your life was about to take a dramatic turn.
