the little miss baskerville at around 14 years old- a young lady with a mischievous streak 😺. her father makes her wear white as a way to know when she's sneaked out against his orders, because her clothes will be visibly dirty. sometimes she'll disguise herself and klint (and occasionally barok) as east end kids and they'll blend in the crowd for a day. her color scheme is meant to be reminiscent of a candle, both in reference to the headstrong, fiery personality i write her with and to her short-lived existence.

Following my redesign of Mal, here’s my take on Evie from Descendants! 👑 I wanted her look to be contrast Mal and be a lot more polished since she’s royalty. I also leaned more into prim and princess-like based on her personality in the movie, but still maintaining dark elements in her aesthetic. I gave her a little skull makeup bag as a nod to the skull in her mother’s dungeon from the original film!

i've seen a lot of people make their own redesigns of AW and i've seen some really, REALLY good ones. like DAMN. to me though, she's gotta be a cowgirl with rabies <3

more ramblings about this southern beast belle under the cut:

when she and AC met (in fairy high school, like Cosmo and Wanda), they HATED each other. like "mauling each other ON SIGHT" hated each other. she literally bit him so many times

(it actually was less hate and more "oh you're deranged. that's hot" except neither of them was able to be normal about it. so)

she teased anti cosmo soooooo much. she was the only one who wasn't afraid of him and he loved hated that. she constantly got on his case about being "so prim and proper all the time like some COWARD" (what she really wanted was for him to go apeshit for once)

after one particularly rough session of "mauling each other like wild dogs" they finally found a mutual respect for each other (and also aggresively made out). from then onwards they became a couple (much to the misfortune of the rest of the universe). Eventually they usurped the Anti-Fairy Council together and have ruled over anti fairies ever since

Wanda isn’t like….particularly a genius; she’s just patient, responsible and kind. Hence, Anti Wanda’s not an idiot: she just acts before she thinks and prefers it that way. She’s got no patience for elaborate plans which sometimes puts her at odds with her husband, but she more than makes up for it by barreling her way through like a goddamn force of nature

She’s also rude and, well….crass. When she can afford to. It drives her husband crazy (in both the good and bad sense lmao)

Personality-wise I picture her being similar to The Noise from Pizza Tower. Silly goofy on the surface but my god she has SO many rabies and will most likely kill you. Extremely chaotic evil <3

Prefers to have her wand be in the shape of a revolver that shoots magic. There is no real practical reason for this other than aesthetics. She’s a pretty good markswoman tbh

She and anti cosmo bring out the worst of each other (affectionate). they match each other’s freak and they absolutely make it everyone else’s problem <3

some designs i came up with for the girls in miraculous. the idea was 'what if they could have multiple outfits like sailor moon, as told by ginger, or totally spies?' and 'what if their clothes reflected their story arc?' however, i kind of gave up on them because i no longer have time to work on it as much as i would like to, so below this are copy+paste from my wip instagram account. lowkey its fanfiction-y lol

Alya:

Alya redesigns! tbh don’t know if they’re cohesive but 🤷‍♀️

S1: dresses for comfort & is geeky - think DrWho/Marvel/Tumblr. Obsessed w superheroes & has dedicated blog for each one, & that includes LB. Beginning of her & Maris friendship, starts to dates nino halfway s1.

S2: Mari influences her way of dress, still geeky but experimenting w clothes. Ladyblog becomes popular, interested in finding out her secret ID. Is also investigating akumas, HM, The Who/what/where/whys. Lowkey figures out who ladybug is but doesn’t say anything. Has been given fox miraculous at least a couple times.

S3: notices changes in Maris behavior & confronts her. Becomes fox miraculous holder full time, helps LB figure out who HM is & shares all the info she’s found. CN lowkey pushed to the side, causing friction, bc wrapped up w finding out who HM is ig. Constantly wears a Fanny pack now for trixx. Goes w comfortable but stylish clothes (ig lol idk) also at this point is BFF w Mari

Chloe:

S1: wears preppy designer brands to impress mom, despite living in diff countries. Basic mean girl, her only friends being Sabrina and Adrien - whose a childhood friend & lowkey helped him attend school. Both know how it feels to “lose” a parent & Adrien has seen a softer side of her. Probably has a crush on him ig. Maris bully, jealous of her talents at sewing & making friends easily, & prob her knit tight family.

S2: still preppy but w 60/70s inspo. Given bee miraculous a couple times, has resisted akumas - info she uses to help others later. Helping ppl & being somewhat nice makes her feel good & likes the appreciation from others+LB. Maybe Mom moves back to Paris w half sister, Zoe - might be significantly younger than Chloe idk. Didn’t like her at first but warms up to her as season goes on. Sees lil sister copying her & their mom, has an epiphany ig. Connects dots on akumas & feelings & tries to be better.

Should Zoe exist tho??? idk

S3: preppy but more casual. She’s nicer but still sarcastic, has made a few new friends, treating Sabrina better. Still trying to get moms approval tho & follows her around, even to fashion things w the Agreste. Notices Gabriel is acting strange, more distant towards Adrien, doesn’t notice what he’s doing or where he’s going. pt queen bee ig, probably given towards the very end of the season tbh by Adrien/CN after being ignored by LB bc of RR involvement w finding out HM id. AND noticing Chloe change significantly in the past several months (?) does Adrien reveal to her IDK he is still loyal to LB but eH

Mari:

1st Mari is shy, her outfits are safe & she kind of disappears in a crowd. She just became 🐞 & isn’t 💯 with her role yet. She’s designed and made her own clothes but doesn’t wear them outside of the house bc Chloe, oof

2nd she’s now comfortable being 🐞 & that boosts her confidence as Mari, she’s wearing more bold colors & outfits that she may or may not have designed herself 👀

3rd 🐞 is now the guardian of the miraculous box, has bigger responsibilities & problems to deal with. Being 🐞 has creeped into her daily life. Doesn’t have time to design/make clothes so wears w/e, but tries to appear happy.

Kagami:

i like the idea of kagami being prim and proper looking all preppy at the beginning, but after making friends she starts to rebel by modifying her school clothes w accessories but eventually wears w/e she wants w a punkish vibe. lowkey worried about falling into a trope so idk

Alastor redesign for funsies. Don't @ me, his bob bothered me so much I decided to fix it. Character design notes and a bonus sketch under the cut.

1. I muted his colours and exadurated the reversed triangle silhouette instead of the hourglass (I guess?) that he has in the show. I could not get rid of red completely without him feeling like a completely different character for me. Also made him look on the younger side bc he did die in his 20s, supposedly, so no rat moustache.

2. His get up and hairstyle resembles a stylized version of 1920s men fashion on the top and the hunter's pants/high boots combo. The cane is meant to look like early 1920s american radio mics. They're very fun to look at and very easy to turn into a star.

3. The underlying theme for him is: he wants to look as human as possible, but as per show's lore sinners have aspects about them that they don't like. For him its his deer features. The antlers are directly connected to his powers and ears are just there and he can't just magic them away. Otherwise he dresses prim and proper, somewhat like he did while he was alive. He takes himself seriously and wants others to do it too.

Another layer deep into the Boscage redesigns! No idea why, but Gnarly instantly became this little CREECHUR and I love him. He is small, but mighty! I really wanted to make Prim a little fairy bat kinda thing, but I also sorta did want her to look a bit more like Rouge... Which had the unfortunate side effect of making the lineup look like that one trope. You know, the whole "guys get to be weird creatures and the GIRL has a human body for no reason" thing. Dammit, man. I'm still fiddling with the designs, though.

I keep forgetting that Netflix!Isaac is supposed to be the same character as the one from the source material, based on character design alone. Dude looks like a goody-good Christian boi who would dare never show even an inch of skin. Making him black is completely irrelevant to the change in his character design, too, because the show's own concept art for his potential designs proves that they could have kept his manwhore-ness completely intact at least aesthetically- so I don't want to hear the whole, "You don't like the redesign because they changed their race!" response from people in this case. Dude just doesn't have the slutty "vibe" as he was clearly meant to.

Isaac's race swap bothers me only for one reason: what they did with it is lazy. They gave him an unnecessary "former slave" background that honestly reeks of Americacentrism - oh, of course African people can only exist in Europe as slaves! What do you mean that the Transatlantic Slave Trade wasn't a thing yet?

I keep saying this, but if you wanted Isaac to suffer persecution for real life reasons, and if you really really really wanted the Devil simp to be of color (whatever makes you happy...), he could have fled from the Emirate of Granada.

This was the last independent Muslim state in Europe until 1492. As the show takes place in 1476, we're at the tail-end of the Reconquista. You know. The Christian kingdoms fighting to reconquer the Iberian peninsula from the Ottoman Empire?

Isaac could have fled from the war, as a young Muslim boy with red hair which marked him as a spawn of the Devil and with a "satanic" interest in black magic (in the flashback of his childhood, he says that he wanted to learn magic to help his master - in this version he could have simply be instinctively attracted to forbidden spells and unnerved everyone around him, even if we keep the show idea that he did not perform magic as a child like Hector did).

It was all here! And it would have been actually pretty interesting! And it would have tied with all the themes, both "Forgemasters shunned from the human world for their affiliation with darkness" from the games and CHURCH BAD from the show.

Of course, this is also not a necessary change. Hector and Isaac suffering the same type of persecution and reacting to it in different ways (Isaac being perfectly happy to follow Dracula in his mass slaughter and Hector not believing every single human deserves to die) is kind of an important part of their character.

(also, making the Devil simp a Muslim is very... questionable, even more so than making him black. By all means, Hector and Isaac should be complete athetists. No God would love them, except for Dracula.)

But this would imply that Ellis and the gang cared about Hector and Isaac, both as their own characters and as foils. They did not.

The other thing that bothers me is that the show artists can't even take credit for N!Isaac's prim and proper outfit:

Kojima, who is not a hack, can use clothes to convey characterization and state of mind. I talked about this here and here, about halfway through. But yeah, Isaac's slutty outfit isn't only just fanservice for the sake of fanservice: Isaac let his proper clothes rot off his body after Hector broke them, as the Curse eroded his sanity. The contrast with this very conservative uniform is so that we can see how low he has fallen after Hector's betrayal and Dracula's death.

(also, in PtR, Hector and Isaac wear the same uniform, with the same crest. because it's a uniform. what is the fucking reason n!hector goes around with knight clothes while n!isaac goes with a cassock, and why in the hell do they have different crests. i fucking hate this so much it's stupid it's so stupid!!)

Anyway. Isaac is a deeper character than anyone gives him credit to. And it deeply annoys me how N!Isaac is touted as an improvement, when he keeps nearly nothing about Isaac and he seems to have been redesigned and reimagined out of spite for the source material.

Alrighty, it's day 2 of posting old artwork. Here are some redesigns of humanized Ga-Matoran ["Toronaiga"]: Macku, Kotu, and Hahli ["Mara, Kota, and Hale"].

I had originally designed them to be part of a mini-series about how Hale rose from her rank as lowly errand-girl to famous Kohlii champion [based on the flash game from the early 2000s], but I decided to have that plot merge with the island's main prologue/backstory instead of being a separate story arc.

Keeping with the idea of merging facial features with mask designs and personalities, I again "fused" shape elements from LEGO's kanohi masks into each character's design:

Macku/Mara:

An energetic, wild, adventurous [and somewhat rebellious] spirit, balancing Mara's personality with the sharp, fierce features of the Huna was tricky since the two seemed fundamentally opposed to each other. But having thought about it more, Mara is second-in-command of her village after the Elder, a role that would require tough decisions and firm direction in leadership.

In the end, I decided to incorporate some sharp, decisive elements to her face [chin, nostrils, square face shape] would be a good way of showcasing her internal struggle between the desire for the normal, care-free life of a child [wild curly hair, large eyes, freckles] and her confidence in her ability to lead her people.

Kotu/Kota:

A prim and proper personality who believes firmly in established order, structure, and earning your place in society, her design is modelled to closely resemble/imitate the Village Elder's [Turaga Nokama/"Noehli Agota"] in both their face shapes [Rau Mask] and individual hairstyles.

Other elements from the Rau in Kota's design include her lips, nose, and downturned almond-shaped eyes.

Hahli/Hale:

Another redesign [More of a touch-up than a redesign, I think?] of my original design for Hale. Not much has changed, but I wanted to polish more of the Kaukau's shape in her re-design [triangle-shaped lips, short nose bridge, and round cheeks]. I also wanted to convey her youthfulness and innocence in her design too [round face shape, large eyes], along with her cheekiness and unpredictability on the Kohlii playing field with her wild, flippy, choppy hairstyle.

uhhh, figured i needed to practise my character design somehow. redesigning official characters seemed like a good start.

idk how evident it is, but i tried to put like, some vibes of other animals into the designs for the purpose of like, trying to communicate character?

like rarity's snout/face/ear is meant to evoke a siamese or ragdoll cat, as well as an alpaca. her legs are def meant to evoke an alpaca, or maybe a poodle. shes trim and prim and manicured. alpacas tie back to fashion, w their wool being used for high end woolen clothing. and a ragdoll is a very like, iconic big pretty cat which is both elegant and very fluffy. i wanted rarity to be fat and elegant. i think i achieved that. her hair is not as good as id like but its good enough. also gave rarity a G1 style cutie mark bc its a classic look and rarity can appreciate a good bit of vintage style, plus her larger body made me think of the G1 pony toys. and i just really like big cutie marks lol.

applejack i wanted to put vibes of australian outback sheep farmer into, as well as fruitbats and australian sheepdogs. i wanted her to be muscular but not thick and overt like big mac. applejack always seems like she should be wiry and lithe. shes not the strongest pony in the world, but she might be the hardest working pony. also her snout being slightly canine ties back to the timberwolves, which for whatever reason i really associate with applejack. winona too! winona is part of the inspo here. and then i put some splotches of darker fur bc i A. wanted to continue evoking a blue heeler, but B. more importantly i wanted her to be part cow. i have this mental image of Pear Butter, her mom, being half cow and being like, very round and fat and soft and pretty. hair is cut short and a bit scruffy, bc long hair seemed impractical to me. i always think about how much applejacks hair would get in the way if things were more grounded. also she has a cow lick! and her hair is less bright, more of a dirty blonde. which just felt fitting. i imagine applejack as having rough skin from all the time she spends working in the sun.

also rarijack is just, the OG, the first thing i was like 'omg those horse fillies, theyre so gay... wow...' its a classic.

I've been hoping for an excuse to do a redesign for her since most of my art wips got bricked recently from a USB error

Not completely touched up yet but that's not the point, we're just here to talk about this sweet peach of a woman

Anastasia Monroe, aka Ana (Kris calls her "Annie" very frequently), a major supporting character in Moon Rising/People are Weird.

She's a 19-year-old college student who basically was cudgeled into the job to help pay for college. She's vegetarian, probably either a Pisces or a Gemini, kind of an astrology/horoscope nerd, and a closet alien/cryptid conspiracy theorist.

The irony of her being an alien conspiracy theorist while unknowingly working for her half-alien boss is not lost on me lol

She was hired onto the estate staff very recently, specifically to be Kris' new personal assistant and secretary, by some people who don't have Kris or Ana's best interests in mind. She's good at her job, don't get me wrong, she was just not hired with good intentions.

Bless her heart, Ana is a tremendously sweet, studious and loyal person, with a lot of big ideas and a talent for organization and planning... but she's got a heart like 1-ply toilet paper; she's very emotionally sensitive.

While Kris and Li are great at letting a lot of things roll off their backs, it's a lot easier to hurt Ana's feelings and make her cry, which makes it very easy for the estate manager to kinda bully her and push her around into doing whatever she wants.

This is incredibly easy with most things concerning Kris, but one of the few areas she'll stand her grounds on is anything concerning Kris' kids, or the kids of some of the staff who live on the estate grounds.

She's far from a coward though; it's very easy to rattle and scare her, but when it's important - especially if it's concerning other people - she's incredibly brave and will fight through her learned timidity for others' sakes.

You're most often to find her in very clean and prim business-casual attire for the most part, given her position, but as time goes by and Kris encourages her to dress however she wants, she has a pretty eclectic, artsy fashion-style.

Also, I had an entire idea. She did got a bf who was Twst Jasmine. But broke off because

1) she wasn’t used to being a princess

2) the image to look like the perfect princess

3) the rules of prim and proper

She didn’t enjoy that life. Let alone settled in when she was taken in. As much him and his parents accepted her for being kind and honest, she felt out of place. Then she slowly lost the spark and left the whole plan of luxury to find her own enrichment. She may be raised by the streets, but she learned hard work comes with great rewards. Not everything should be served by the silver platter. And said goodbye to being a princess and live her own life which she finds freedom within. Running and being carefree is her own joy.

But when she’s with Kalim, he deeply appreciate her using independence then rely on others. And she appreciates how Kalim wants to put effort into things and gives him a helping hand to learn.

I said “what if I made this girl girlboss?” And I did. So we have this girlboss girl. And I think of this idea a lot. Like, at first she was happy to be princess. But then later, she doesn’t anymore and didn’t want that rich princess life.
