Jay + New Girl AU

From his junior year of high school, before graduation was even on the horizon, Jay knew he needed to get out of Chicago. It could be temporary, for all he cared, but it’s what his brother had done. The first chance he had, Will had run as far away as he could, and he wanted to do exactly the same thing - only not in the direction of New York and an eventual medical degree.

He set his sights lower, in a way. Instead, he shipped off to Afghanistan before the end of August, and chose to risk his life every single day in a war zone instead of facing his family back home. It was easier, that way. If he didn’t have to look his father and all of his disappointment in the eye, didn’t have to watch his mother slowly getting sicker, didn’t have to deal with the empty void that was left when his brother moved halfway across the country... it was easier. Ignoring all the hard things back home made it so easy to focus on staying alive.

Even with the ability to put all of his attention toward staying alive, even with the support he had from his team, living long enough to make his sabbatical from Chicago a temporary one wasn’t a guarantee. Getting away for a little while all too quickly turned into four years, and new best friends, and an explosion...

What was supposed to be a temporary reprieve from the drama and pressure of his family ended in a forced medical discharge. It ended in weeks spent in hospital rooms, sometimes alone, sometimes with the one friend he had who was still alive. It depended on the day, on their pain levels, on what surgeries were scheduled when. And then that ended when they were both well enough to go home, to be shipped right back to Chicago - only all of the luck went to Mouse, who went back to a comfortable life with his degree and his job and all the money in the world. Jay, on the other hand, was thrust right back into all the things he’d been running away from in the first place.

In little more than a year, he’d had to face his own mortality and then plan a funeral virtually on his own. It wasn’t like his brother was exactly rushing home to help out, and his father didn’t want to acknowledge any of it at all. So it fell on his shoulders, as did finding a way to pay the bills, and saving up money to get out of his childhood home again.

He scraped together enough money to, just barely, cover the starting rent of a studio apartment on the edge of town. It was a bad area, probably even more dangerous than the war zone that had almost killed him, but he didn’t care. He just wanted out.

And then his luck turned all the way around.

Jay, as it turned out, wasn’t the only one who needed a bit of freedom and space to try to make it on his own. With the money that came from Mouse’s job, they didn’t have to rough it in some dirty, barely standing apartment building. They found a loft, with four bedrooms, a huge space that was more than enough for the two of them to live in, especially after sharing such close quarters for as long as they did. Even when he started training at the police academy and found them a third roommate, there was still an extra bedroom leftover to turn into an office, if they ever got around to it on the weekends.

It was as close to a perfect life as he was ever going to get, and he knew it. He had his friends nearby, and a job he loved, and more than just an occasional phone call with his brother again. Even after a few years, things were still going great, they really were. There was chaos, but that just came from having an apartment filled with three single men, and the kind of budget that meant they didn’t have to tone down their lives just yet.

When he got the phone call offering him a short contract with the army, in Bolivia instead of the middle east, using all the skills he’d honed in his time as a detective, he barely hesitated. The bedroom would still be there when he got home, and so would the life he’d grown to love so much. He wasn’t running away again, just getting a little taste of something else before he returned to exactly where he belonged.

from Alice Archives - Green Book

1. BY PETER: foil-baked fish and mushrooms

Ingredients (2 servings)

Fish fillet - 2 pieces Onion - half Shiitake mushrooms - 2 of them Enoki mushroom - 1 Shimeji mushrooms - 1 pack Butter - about 10g Soy sauce/Ponzu sauce - An Appropriate Amount Salt - a little Pepper - a little

Slice the onion thinly. Cut the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces.

Spread out the aluminum foil and spread the onions across it. Put the fish and mushrooms and butter on top of it. Wrap the foil.

Put about 100cc of water in a frying pan. When steam comes out, put the wrapped foil in the frying pan and put the lid on.

Steam for 5-10 minutes on medium heat.

Add salt and pepper to taste, put on soy sauce or ponzu sauce, and its done!

2. BY BLOOD: tea scones

Ingredients (makes 8 scones):

Cake flour - 200g Baking powder - 1 tablespoon Butter 70g Black tea leaves (earl grey, darjeeling) - 1-2 tablespoons or 1-2 teabags Milk - 100cc Egg - 1 Sugar - 1-2 tablespoons Salt - a little

Mix the cake flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix thoroughly.

If the tea leaves are too big, crush it finely. mix with the mixture from 1

Mix the butter, egg, and milk. Little by little combine it with the mixture from step 2. Mix lightly, dont overmix!

Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest in the fridge for about 1 hour.

Roll out about 1-2cm thick. Cut to a suitable size or use a cookie cutter.

Put in the oven on 180C for about 10-20 minutes, watching it.

Put on as much jam, cream, and other toppings as you like.

3. BY JULIUS: COFFEE SCONES

Ingredients (Makes 8 scones):

Cake flour - 200g Baking powder - 1 tablespoon butter - 70g milk - about 80cc coffee - about 20cc sugar 1-2 tablespoons chocolate chips- 50g salt - a little

Mix the cake flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix thoroughly.

Mix the milk and the coffee, then mix that with the mixture from step 1.

Mix what you have from step 2 with the butter. Add chocolate chips. Dont overmix, mix it lightly. Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest in the fridge for about 1 hour.

Roll out about 1-2cm thick. Cut to a suitable size or use a cookie cutter.

Put in the oven on 180C for about 10-20 minutes, watching it. Your bittersweet coffee scones are ready!

4. BY ACE: Rabbit Stew

Ingredients (2 servings):

Meat of a white rabbit similar to Mister Peter - 1/2 rabbit Carrots - 2 White mushrooms - 10 Onion - 1 Dried herbs (bay leaf, basil, rosemary, thyme, etc) - a little Parsley - 2 tablespoons Salt - a little Garlic - 1 piece Red wine - 2 cups Olive oil - a little Pepper - a little Honey - half a tablespoon

Cut the rabbit into easy to eat pieces, submerging it in red wine. Let it rest in the fridge for 1 hour.

Julienne the carrots. Cut the onion, mushrooms, and garlic into thin slices. Dice the parsley.

Put the olive oil in a pan and fry the rabbit until brown. Add and saute the onion halfway through

Add the red wine, carrots, mushrooms, garlic, and dried herbs to the pot from step 3. add salt and pepper and stew on low heat for an hour.

When the meat and vegetables are tender, put them on a plate and sprinkle with parsley.

Add honey to the juice left in the pot and heat for 1-2 minutes

Put on the sauce from 6 and it's ready!

5. BY BORIS: Herb Grilled Salmon

Ingredients (2 servings):

salmon - 2 slices panko crumbs - 1 cup pepper - a little olive oil - 2 tablespoons dried herbs (bay leaf, basil, rosemary, thyme, etc) - a little

Pat the salmon dry, and sprinkle on the pepper and herbs. If the salmon is raw, sprinkle on salt, too.

Mix the panko crumbs and herbs. Put one teaspoon of the olive oil into your mixture to moisten it.

Coat the salmon in the panko crumbs from step two.

Heat up olive oil in a frying pan, then cook on medium heat until golden-brown on both sides.

It's recommended to put on as much lemon juice as you'd like. Enjoy!

6. BY PIERCE: Cheese In Blue Cheese

Ingredients (2 servings)

Your preferred cheese - 1 block Sauce: Blue cheese - 50 g Milk - 100cc Fresh cream (low-fat) - 100cc Pepper - just a bit

Mix blue cheese, milk and fresh cream on your stove. melt blue cheese while stirring

Add cheese and simmer. It will be ready in a reasonable amount of time!

*If you're a person who ISN'T Pierce, it's recommended to put the cheese sauce on spaghetti or gnocchi.

Random Jason Hijinks I either wish would happen someday or find amusing to think about.

Rose and Jason break Eddie out of hell and steal his soul back from Neron. Jaime is dragged along by Rose because he and Eddie were “friends a few reboots ago”. Jason asked Roy who sent him Connor who is suffering™.

Pre-Red Hood Jason and Pre-Green Arrow Connor first meet up back when Jason was part of the All-Caste hunting a demon. It’s a one-shot adventure and the things you have to know are:  

a) this is before Jason’s growth spurt so he’s over a head shorter than Connor.

b) Connor isn’t a cape so excuse him for not understanding demons and fucking up hilariously a few times.

c) When Jason tries to kill the demon who is possessing the human, he and Connor fight about it. The fight ends when the demon explodes out of the person like the Pus of Man from Dark Souls 3.

d) Talia is the one who finds and picks up Jason from the adventure (Connor thinks she’s his mom and Jason just didn’t inherit the melanin) and is also the one who gives Connor contact information for Jason because she wants him to have some sort of friend.

e) They never actually learned the other’s name so anytime they’d hear about Red Hood or Green Arrow they literally don’t know it’s that guy they met as teenagers.

Jason decides to actually dust off his mystic training when Dick walks in and Jason gets hit with so many bad vibes he’s genuinely worried something is wrong with Dick.  

Jason: “Did they not fix the Brother Blood mind control thing fully? Did Raven miss something? Isn’t Dick friends with a million people? How have they all missed this????”

It ends with bringing Danny Chase back to life and the only person remotely happy about it is Jason and even that’s a stretch.

Jason slowly but surely claims Park Row and the surrounding areas as his territory. It has the unforeseen consequence of magical folk moving into the neighborhood because Gotham is a nightmare to live in normally, Magic Gotham is even worse and the only people who can survive are big hitters like Blood, Zatanna, and Ivy or small fries like the kitchen witch near Leslie’s. Welcome to the big leagues, Jason.

Jason keeps getting mistaken for Jason Blood and it is annoying. One day some demon hunters threw something at Jason and did anyone know Jason used to be in heaven because he sure didn’t and these angel wings are a fucking nightmare.

Rose busts a gut laughing because she somehow became friends with the least demon-y demon Eddie and Jason as an angel.

Jason, Ivy, Sideways, and Impulse (Impulse voice: “Why am I even here?”) vs the Madness Wavelength in Arkham.

Jason kills Joker and finds out that he cannot. Not as in “He doesn’t die” or “There will be a new one” but a secret third option, “The universe literally resets the day every time he’s killed.” Instead of being a tragedy, it becomes a comedy as killing Joker slowly becomes Jason’s go-to when shit goes wrong/killing him is good stress relief. Stephanie discovers what happens because she’s had to write the same essay nine times once. Instead of being horrified they (and then Helena, Tim, Duke, etc.) make killing Joker a gag. The only ones not allowed to kill the Joker are Dick and Bruce because then the universe decides it’s the bad timeline instead of just resetting again.

Tim: *drops his latte on a hot guy and then embarrasses himself in public trying to apologize and becomes a meme.*

Tim: I guess I have to kill Joker now.

Jason and Kory remeeting and wow it’s really awkward that we only got close because of a universe meddler and then you dipped and never contacted me again even though I was a hundred percent serious that you were one of my first friends and are very important to me.

Oh no. Not the talking. Not communication! I love The Gift (8x11) so much. Scully doesn't know it yet but this is where Doggett really becomes part of The Team. He's out here on a Saturday giving up his weekend to try to fill in the blanks in Mulder's whereabouts. He doesn't believe Mulder was taken by aliens any more than Scully believed Samantha had been taken by them, but he's still trying in his own way to get the answers and keep his promise to find him. And then he called Skinner.

The first interactions between him and Skinner are so so so good. "I can't go to Agent Scully because Agent Scully signed those reports too"

Oh, thinks Skinner, not this shit again. I'm not gonna tell this guy but this is not the first time. What in the fuck were those two doing now. "If you report this to OPR it'll ruin her" is what he says instead.

"I'm not going to OPR," says Doggett. And that right there and everything afterward is just... he's in. You can practically see the wheels turning in that moment as Skinner recalculates his entire opinion of Doggett. And then when Skinner later vouches for him, tells Scully she can trust him with her secret. It's so much because of the decisions he made in this episode. It's the birth of Spooky Squad 2.0 💕
