I signed up for a dnd campaign my local library holds since apparently my strixhaven campaign is deceased. no longer with us. post mortem. (and all the other party members have other campaigns to go to and I do not cause I don't have any other friends that play 🤩) and I don't know i just think it's kinda funny I have decided to play a character that is just what happens when someone's dad accidentally gets into a pact with like cthulhu

I have a giant list of character ideas and I decided the best option was someone's father

I'm gonna make a great first impression on these strangers

putting the clown makeup on before doing the love test was the best idea I’ve had in this playthrough because Karlach is looking at Shadowheart like she hung the moon and stars in the sky and Shads looks like this

#shadowlach #I was gonna be like idk where the blood came from and then I remembered the dinosaur island #sidenote isn’t Shads’ outfit cute I’ve made her a nature cleric/bard #so she still has Selûne but she also has the side of her that loves animals #and a creative outlet/new hobby because I think she deserves to find herself and experience new things #and she has the most fun vicious mockery voice so #and yeah I originally picked the armour because I thought the shorts were super funny as part of any armour set #but it’s really grown on me as part of her bard look she’s so cute #I think the white hair really suits it too

was thinking about leverage dnd classes and i think the obvious choice for sophie is bard, but i don't think that's quite right, because her whole thing is that she's NOT a very good actor. she's not an Artist, she's a grifter. i think one of the reasons why sophie struggles with acting is because then the goal is art/self-expression/a desire to communicate with and be seen by the world (something she has a whole crisis about) while the goal of grifting more readily aligns with her own (facilitating a con). like bards are ultimately a class that's about supporting/"inspiring" others through creative endeavors (getting stronger by improving your craft), while other charisma casters like warlocks are about power and ambition (getting stronger by selling your soul); but i think sophie's talents are closest to those of sorcerers, whose powers are more innate and something to be learned to be controlled. sophie's struggle isn't that she's not good enough at her job, but that maybe she's TOO good at it to the point she doesn't know who she is, and that her powers may in fact hurt others. if anything, she's a sorcerer carrying around a lute and charming her audience into clapping for her when her performance flops

#like i imagine (and this might be contradicted by canon) that a younger sophie went 'well i'm good at lying. i should be an actor!'#except that good acting requires you to tell the truth to some degree. yknow?#i think sophie's one of the last characters i'm still calibrating but i'm getting there #anyways the character that's closest to a bard is in fact hardison because his motivation is to connect with others and belong #which is part of the contradiction at the heart of the bard class! unfortunately he is also just a wizard.#no subclasses or multiclassing here we're all about the CORE CHARACTER DILEMMA here #parker's a rogue (balancing independence and the need for a team)#hardison's a wizard (need to always get better at your Thing in case you are Not Good Enough)#eliot's a barbarian (wrestling with and learning to control/harness your innate power)#nate's a cleric (subclass: ex-catholic) (crisis of faith/morality. struggle with temptation. etc.)#leverage lb #sophie devereaux #leverageposting

I'm actually rather surprised that not a single one of the boys made top three. but then again, I suppose the large number of straight men that play this game are not as visible in fan spaces as us lgbt. That is...a fortunate thing, though, I'd argue.

#bg3 #thoughts about media #with how much you see of a certain little elf- I figured he'd make the top three. but I see I figured wrong!#the top classes do not surprise me at all.#I take great interest in strategy when it comes to dbd. so I pay the same attention to strategy in bg3.#the top three classes are some of the best classes to choose for combat.#theeeen the choices stray back into RP territory.#rogue has it's uses...but less so than warlock I'd argue.#I'd say wizard and cleric are stronger than rogue too.#hell. I multiclass star into wizard once he's gotten his lvl 3 thief perks. in part for tav lore reasons. in part to maximise his strengths #stealth just isn't consistent enough in this game to pay off. in my opinion.#like the best classes I'd say are sorcerer / paladin / bard / warlock.#fighter is good for multiclassing to gain action surge. and multiclassing into war/tempest cleric can be useful too.#but fully levelling either seems pointless imo.#the race choices are 100% because of RP reasons. the stats do not whatsoever show any influence from min/maxing stats and abilities.#if that were the case. half-orc would be the top. halfing. and drow. I think duegar is good too?#tiefling being up there isn't actually TOO bad either. they are decent for mage classes.#CANNOT believe evoker wizard is the most popular though. other subclasses have better perks imo.#I also think thief is the best subclass of rogue. extra bonus action? and falling damage reduction/cannot fall prone from falling? SO good.#also my sincere congrats to the 464 maniacs who've already destroyed honour mode. you people are bananas.

i love dnd..i love playing heavy utility/support/backfield and i love having three to six attacks in a turn and an insane ac. at heart im a support player ill get my hands on whatever we're missing in a group

#looks at a druid a fighter and a bard fighter. okay cleric time.#i LOVE playing cleric turns out.#though abjuration wizard is still super super fun its a different flavor of support #it's not buffs it's 'i am going to transfer literally all that damage to myself and war caster style succeed my witchbolt concentration'#doing insane amounts of damage while taking damage (+ with temp hp and then just a lot of hp. im taking the tough feat as soon as possible)#aabria iyengar was right these abjuration wizards are craaaazy. but war domain clerics also fuck hard #my abj wiz is very much an experiment in 'what if someone who is not at all suited to this life tries to adapt as well as she can'#the point is that she isn't a cleric. do u understand. she's not a cleric and that's the point it's the. hbbbgbfhb. she's out here #functioning as a combat medic on some aasimar features + healing kits/potions + arcane ward. Look At Me #i also really enjoy playing nonreligious characters in these worlds where deities 100% exist not in a 'fuck the gods' way but in #a way somewhere between 'i'm all i need' and 'i called and no one answered' and 'may or may not go on an insane power hungry spiral and #try to get a touch of godhood' which is in part very due to my own agnostic and people-loving heart and 'haha what if i icarused this girl'#a resentful caution towards gods an immense respect towards religious companions and 'when your god isn't here to help. i will be'#anyway REACTION arcane ward you don't take damage im fine. next turn reaction shield ward's back up. the thing is.#she will drive her hp down. the ward isn't much like it goes past that temp hp. it's 14hp that shit goes down and carries to her hp #but it never drops. any leveled spell puts hp back into the ward. a 1st lvl shield puts it at 2hp and she can use it again #she is not suited for these conditions but my god it is fun to watch. i care her.#i explained that subclass feature to a player that's not in that campaign and said. like. yeah she can take damage. when her ward drops to #0 it carries to her. any leveled abj spell puts it back up. and she can use it and drive her hp down again.#do u understand what i am explaining to u! do you get it! she is and has always been a punching bag!#she was a very valuable asset to the army and the group she was drafted! into. because when she's there. people just don't fucking go down #aside from her. aside from her. AAAAH. she's so cool. she is very smart i am still riding the high of critting every turn w witchbolt and #reacting to ward a party member against a crit that would have dropped him by taking the hit herself. and she didn't break concentration #badass

i need to write a proper backstory for my pathfinder character beyond the basic stuff laid out before the campaign started and answer dm questions about her... and i need to make a character for the new 5e campaign i'm in... busy busy...

#the new character takes priority since pachy already has Some stuff laid out and the stuff that isn't there isn't immediately necessary #hmm. the things i had kicking around in my head for new characters don't work for this campaign.#the things i wanted to try - i want to take another go at a changeling bard since i spent a lot of time on one years ago and didn't get to #play her... since i ended up having to dm that campaign.#and then i want to take another crack at a kalashtar and make another tempest cleric #maybe not the same character this time. vash wasn't weak by any means but certainly she could have had a better match #for the extremely tanky thing that she was built and played as #kalashtar i feel like would also be served by a more bard-y or rogue-y class... maybe a trickery cleric as well?#but i'm wanting to play a campaign-specific subclass cleric so that's not the right choice #personal

swashbuckler rogue my beloved

#i would never regret the storm sorc/tempest cleric combo that i chose for Bonk because they're an absolute damage MACHINE #but sometimes i wonder who i would be if i had gone down the martial road instead #bonk literally has a pistol and a sword and they're pretty fucking good with both of them. you normally don't see that in sorcerers.#i think my attack bonus with the sword is higher than my spell attack bonus which is kind of insane #next time i level up i have to go through all my spells because honestly im starting to get a little tired of the same old lightning bolt #PLUS now i have transmuted spell so i can just take pretty much any damage spell i want and turn it into lightning damage #for my sweet sweet bonuses #there is just some part of me that needs to play a rogue though. swashbuckler. arcane trickster. soul knife. phantom. anything #normally i don't like playing stealthy characters but there are so many good rogues out there #even a “ruff boi” a la magnus burnsides (fighter/rogue)#multiclassing my beloved too i guess #so hard for me to make a character that i don't multiclass #i might even go paladin/bard with one of my newer characters eventually #inspired by calliope petrichor #but he's different. he'd be a bard because he's a theater kid #but also i want to play a straight up paladin because i want to explore with being a character who has a connection to a god #because i've never done that before #and the themes and motifs are too strong #idk man we'll see how it goes :)#i love dnd #ALSO i feel like i cant make him a bard because i already have TWO OTHER FUCKING BARDS #GUYS (sweating) IM NOT A BARD MAIN I SWEAR #maybe for my paladin i could just take magic adept and learn some bard spells or something? like beverly naddpod? maybe #but it's not about the spells... it's about the performance checks...#i really should be working on my finals right now #im so serious if you've read this far down 1 hi :) and 2 if u have dnd characters PLEASE tell me about them. bats my eyelashes. please

see i want to write my most likely novel length wyll fic but that would require starting a wyll origin run for research and ive already started too many games currently (my ranger tav who is my baby boy + my durge run + my astarion origin run plus a possible co-op run with my beloved @actual-lea)

#is it wrong that so far ranger is my favorite class #paladin initiative sucks otherwise id love being a paladin for the angst #and my obsession with religious imagery and themes makes me love being a cleric #but ranger just seems like practical but also fun especially as a gloomstalker #my ranger tav has great initiative and gets to take like three turns per turn #however ill be trying bard on the lea-julian adventure co-op because i wanna be a little silly #and also romance wyll as a bard
