Käärijä's Helsinki live concert, mid-speeches translated
Okay as promised I will try to translate Käärijä's speeches of his concert. I am doing this as training for my English exam so I will make mistakes. Also Käärijä speaks in Finnish spoken language, and it has more slang than written language. So the translations are a polished versions of his speeches. Please correct me on my grammar mistakes! :D
---
"Good friends! Welcome to Käärijä's journey!
---
"Just like that. There is a lot of you. I heard some people have been waiting for a week in there. That requires skills. Thank you for that. Good lord give your self a big applause for this."
"Käärijä in Vantaa. From Vantaa. A sold-out Black box (the concert)."
"Nobody would have believed this. Not you, not me, no one. But accidents happen to everyone and now one happened to Käärijä.
"Amazing, let's continue."
(applause)
"Oh don't start yet, I'll take my jacket off. (A friends name?) take my jacket off."
"This leather is a bad choice for the outfit cause there are flames and everything. Leather against leather.
(The Finnish word for skin and leather is nahka so it's a fun play with words).
"A sip of water and we will continue."
"But one question! Did we come here to have fun? (Crowd cheers) Okay then we will continue."
---
"Thank you"
"Hey! Now there is this thing, and I am hoping that this friend who is coming here has drunk water. So that he won't go into the pyres, because today this one guy has a bachelor party."
(The guy in question appears, and Käärijä speaks to him. The guy wears a monkey suit)
"And I bet. And I bet you don't get any further. This will remain as a bachelor party. And you can start looking for a new friend, a new companion. I hope they are watching this."
"Hey! Here we have a monkey. And so am I."
"This job that we are doing here is really a job of a monkey. (With monkey they mean kinda silly or stupid). Glad to see someone else in this suit and next we have the song Kiertävä sirkus."
"You can go wild but don't go into the flames."
---
"Thank you! (Speaking to the monkey guy). I wish you nothing but the best and good luck."
"If everything went badly because of this, then you can move into my tiny apartment. You are always welcome."
"Okay take that monkey away."
(Speaking to the crowd again)
"It makes me glad. (He said "vetää hiljaiseksi" which means "pulls me silent", but idk how to translate that well)."
"People are wearing green and some people don't have clothes at all on them, but that is fine."
"So, have you been enjoying yourselves huh?"
(crowd cheers)
"Well yes. So I actually went to Eurovision, I don't know if anyone watched it, but-"
(cheering)
"Yes that was, that was like a basic gig in Nivala. Yeah we did that out of the way and- now we are here. So I appreciate all of you so so so so much."
"This is not self-evident, so many people want to see this circus monkey, I don't- I mean I am thinking what is wrong with you all, but it's nice that you are all here. Yeah just kidding.
"I also want to thank you for everything, you guys have made this thing, not me I just made the song. I didn't do much more than that. You guys created this around Käärijä- well I am not sure what sort of chaos this is, but you guys are guilty for that. Thank you for that."
(Crowd cheers)
"And then I would like to respect this guy called Antti Tuisku. " (Antti is a very popular and beloved Finnish singer).
"Sadly I need to tell you that Antti had much more better things to do, than come to Käärijä's concert."
"He is somewhere in Spain, with an oiled chest. Macarena- or what is that song."
"But we are trying to give our respects to him. He is apparently quitting his career, good for me, he made me some room. Thank you Antti."
"Antti was Finland's best live performer, notice "he was". Who is it now? I do not know."
"But- I was thinking we could do it for you guys (his and Antti's song "Auto jää".) We can respect Antti and- this sounds like a funeral speech. He is alive. And is doing well. Is doing better than ever."
"Antti, if you are watching this somewhere, I don't know somewhere. But if you are not watching then all the best for you. See you in Spain."
"Let's get going."
"You can sing along! I have no idea how these lyrics go, but let's try."
---
"Thank you."
"Pity that Antti didn't come."
"Antti did not come and you can't do anything about it."
(I don't know how to translate the word "onpa" but he says that a few times. Basically a word to start a sentence)
"I don't know, this makes me speechless. (the sound is not working) And now my headset is starting to get broken. I am absolutely messed up over here. I am not drunk but otherwise I'm messed up."
"There is- hey (points into the crowd) you put me messages about that hat, didn't you? Yes. Think about this, there is this one person who made a- I don't know how many weeks or months it took you to make that- that hat. Hat. First they were flexing me like "Look at this hat" and I was like oh that is kinda cool "Do you want this?".
(The person starts to point at the hat and ask does Käärijä want it)
"Why would I take it, it's yours!! Dear lord- no I can't- maybe later."
"Quite a hustle and bustle."
"Shall we continue still?"
(Crowd cheers)
"Yes we will continue- I am trying to look if there are any- all of you are my friends. And that much I want to say that welcome to Käärijä's family."
(Cheering)
"Even if you don't want to, now you are a part of Käärijä's family, because you came here. You have sold your souls to Käärijä.
(Cheers"
"And I hope everyone respects each other here, because otherwise I will come there and no one will have fun anymore."
"Because there are small family members here, so I hope they too will see something. So if there is a little Lassi somewhere in there, then take that Lassi and carry him so he could see too. Or then they can come here 10 years later."
"I feel like that 5 year old Lassi is as tall as me. Or what was its name. But I guess-"
"Okay then we will do a few new songs. We released this mixtape and decided to do those songs as well. I am kinda terrified already, (looks at a paper on the floor) and I went to look what were the names of the songs."
"Are they- Are these the songs? Well I guess there is no other choice but to do these."
"Are there anyone who bought that mixtape?"
"Well they did not sell that well but- that is why I am not even wearing a shirt on."
(A pink guy whispers something to him)
"What?"
"Is it the wrong song? That was the wrong song."
"What was it?"
"Well it was Mic mac."
"Sorry for that, I am still kinda in Liverpool, but well just ignore that."
"Let's play Mic mac then."
"If someone knows this legendary dance, you are allowed to dance."
---
"There is a mini Käärijä. Hello."
"That is cool. Is that my missing bolero? That was- you never returned it. But that's okay, it is yours now."
"Who else do we have here. What is that, a Pokemon card, a Bulbasaur- so many gifts here again."
"You guys are- a finnish flag- yes I know where we are."
"Someone came here "Really, Käärijä can't remember. We should show him that he is here in Finland, and no more in Liverpool!"
"Draw me a tattoo."
"Now you are- I will come there at some point. You are- you are- you are going hard over there, there is absolutely no sense in this."
"Dear lord."
"Does anyone else want a tattoo? I have the equipments over there."
"When this career in music starts going downhill, I was thinking about- well I guess I need to have a tattoo shop then, because so many want to take one."
"Alright, let's do more new songs then. Is that ok?"
(Crowd says yes)
"Well this is the first time we are doing these live, so give us some air and mercy. We are a bit confused, but that's the spirit."
"Let's go."
---
"Thank you."
"That went surprisingly well. A bit of confusion, but that is okay. Forgive me."
"And then there would be this "Morgan", has anyone heard it?"
(cheering)
"I can tell you, yesterday when we were practicing it- it was horrifying to watch. Let's hope it is today, just as horrifying to watch."
"So let's go!"
---
"Thank you (starts laughing)"
"Guys, you should never present a song you learned yesterday."
"But that went quite well, didn't it?"
"Yeah, the same thing was with Eurovision. I learned the lyrics a day before the show, and it went well!"
"Hey it is absolutely amazing. Life ain't so serious. It's good to go wild sometimes, but like nicely, no stupid things."
"I also want to say hey to the back row."
(cheering)
"Käärijä's concerts rarely have a back row, but now there is one."
"That is very nice, welcome here. I hope you can see something, I'm kinda a tiny short guy."
"People have been talking about how tall Käärijä is. So you know what?"
"I don't know."
"That's it."
"Let's go to the next song!"
---
"That kind. That song."
"Hey, a question. Always interesting a question like this."
"How many people knew about Käärijä before UMK?"
(Crowd answers)
"Not everyone could have know no. Where have you been those days? When Käärijä sang lonely gigs? In Pudasjärvi, in a corner of a pizzeria. Haven't seen you guys there."
"How many of you, Käärijä was not really known, before UMK?"
(Crowd answers again)
"Well now it badly seems like, people are trying to get pity pints to Käärijä. Same guys who said "Yes I have listened" raised their hands in "I haven't listened"."
"Well it is what it is. That I will never know. Numbers will know."
(The person with a tattoo sign is waving their sign)
"You are still swinging there. We should take a hotel room later, now take it easy. We will make that tattoo."
"Wow. Are there- How many made a bolero?"
(People raise their hands, one guy is jumping, Käärijä points at him)
"You. The same crazy person again here. I can never get rid of you. Now you have some kind of a teddy bear with you. What gig was it- it was Lap- Lappeenranta?"
"This guy stole the whole show."
"You got paid and everything."
"Yes well- yes no wonder Kärtsäri is not driving around with a fancy car when this one guy takes it all (the money)."
(The guy takes his wig off)
"Put that potty back you looked better in it."
"Hey I want to- there is a bolero. I first of all want to thank you- I am usually not the one to say thank you, I am that kind of a person who is not thanking everyone. That's not who I am. Thanking everyone is more of Antti's thing, not mine."
"But I want to say, to all the families that there here. Are there any families here?"
(Crowd answers)
"I assumed at first of course that "Yess there are families here". And nobody came. Let's just say, the smallest family members welcome here, and I hope parents know where they just took their kids. And I try to behave accordingly, today. This is the last time."
"This is the coolest thing that has happened to me, honestly."
(Crowd cheers)
"There- there in Liverpool the fact that there were 15 thousand people and 250 million people watching from TV, this is much cooler. Thank you for that."
(Crowd cheers)
"Even if I lie a lot, I am not lying about this."
"Okay shall we continue?"
"Hey, will any shirts come off? Next up is Paidaton riehuja (shirtless rampage) so will any come off? There! There went one."
"Remember at Käärijä's concert we are all family, so you can take off your shirt no matter gender or who you are. Of course be aware of the smallest family members, so they wont get trauma."
(Points at the crowd)
"What kind of a duck costume are you wearing?"
"You have come to the wrong concert, no but let's go."
---
(Käärijä goes near the crowd.)
"Thank you"
"Like that."
(Someones money drops)
"Your money dropped here."
(A little kid in a pink dress comes next to Käärijä)
"You- oh goddaughter even came here. Go fast to your mother or you'll drown there (in the crowd)."
(People give him stuff. Käärijä leads the kid back)
"Are these for me? Thank you. Amazing. (girl's name maybe?)"
(Käärijä goes back to the stage)
"I'll go back to the stage, I didn't go back home like some of you thought."
(Someone in the crowd shouts something, I am not sure what)
"It will come, it will come. It is the next one actually."
"Let's see. First time ever I had to do a set list. Because there are like 16 songs here."
"I am not sure what these songs are, but here they are."
"What are these songs? Do we even have time to do these all? Hey, before Urheilujätkä, there will be Hirttää kiinni."
"Is that okay?"
(He asks "Hirttääkö jengillä kiinni? Hyvä niin minullakin", not sure how to translate it right.)
---
"Kärtsäri's concert haven't had this kind of a feeling in a long time."
"Old man's pump is starting to fail, I hope our first aid is ready. Okay no that was a joke, no need to worry."
(Watching fan signs)
"What is there? "Greetings to mom and dad" my parents? Do you have something to say to my dad? "Cha cha cha, hirttää kiinni ja Mic mac" very well... "
"That is a cool sign, I need to give you my respects. My apartment is full of drawings, and shoes and socks and... I sleep on top of all the fan made things... and I don't have the money to move to a bigger apartment yet, but maybe someday for sure."
(Points to the crowd)
"Why are you jumping over there?"
"Cool is your bolero, what is it made of? Sheets maybe? No, just kidding, it's amazing."
(Cameraman is filming a fan with a sign "Make a <3 if you think Bojan is hot" Käärijä sadly did not notice :( Love the fan for trying)
"Soon we will give you some cha cha cha. And and well not yet, I tricked you guys a little, but soon."
"Before that, I would like to ask some people- wait I need to check who I was supposed to ask here."
"Yeah my memory left in- I need to say that this journey from Liverpool- no actually from UMK to here has really been a journey of some kind. And you people have made me come through it. I must say that if people think that this kind of life is just some highlight and very cool- this is very cool yes, but there are a lot of dark sides into this."
But I must say that the moment I see so many people here because of me- Dear lord."
"If my mom comes here well that is normal, but this many people, I am not sure how many is just wow. Nobody probably bought their own ticket here. You won your tickets from some cereal packet or-"
"Hey next I would like to ask people here on the stage. First of all I am asking my friend, who is actually the reason why I am on music business at all, and I have learned a lot from him and he is a dear friend. We have been through some hardships but we are still friends and I hope it stays like that, so now with a big applause welcome to the stage Soni!!! (I think it was Soni)"
(crowd cheers)
Soni: "Good evening"
Käärijä: "Pay your debts"
Soni:: "Tomorrow"
Käärijä: "Welcome to the stage"
Soni: "Thank you thank you"
"And next I would like to ask, one friend, who we made the first Käärijä song with and my best friend. Who was with me in Liverpool as an interpreter but he didn't get to do anything cause I became so good in English. My English is kinda good nowadays."
"Yes yes mister worldwide here"
"Applause to Jesse!!!!!"
"And before all this I will go get this one shirt. Where is it? Here."
Soni: "Does anyone have lamps on their phones? Could we get those up for the next song?"
Jesse: "This is the moment"
"This is very awkward to wear this shirt on. But is e here, is uncle Jaska here somewhere? Sportguy himself."
"He is not. Hey now it looks cool. Are you ready before the big final? Let's go!"
---
""Well that was a journey."
Joni: "What a circus."
"Jesse over here has played hockey before. Can't believe he is here now. Well career didn't start on that area and Jesse is not doing anything in this area either."
"Hey a few songs left I hope you have all enjoyed. Tomorrow I will go to a vacation so don't try to contact me. I won't answer. Cause now Kärtsäri needs a vacation."
"A few songs left and then you can all go to home to sleep. Are you ready?"
"I'll go take my shirt of and then we will continue."
(Someone shouts take your pants off)
"Pants off? These pants are stuck in my skin. So they won't leave. If you didn't know I actually sleep in these."
"Journey has been hard and it has a prize and that we pay."
"Next we will have a tense atmosphere"
"So let's continue."
---
(Crowd shouts Cha cha cha)
---
"Thank you!!!!"
"Give a big applause to yourselves! Give a big applause to the dancers! And give a big applause to my pink friends!"
"Do you want it to play again?"
"DO YOU WANT IT AGAIN?"
"Okay let's do it, now everyone goes as hard as they can!"
---
"Thank you!"
"Dear god, thank you thank you thank you!"
"Now my tank is empty and I will go to a vacation. remember to take a break and have a vacation."
"I will remember this always, I don't remember anything from the Eurovision show but this I will always remember. Thank you!"
"And I hope we can take one family photo. Everyone here, YLE will shut the TV soon. Okay good, good. And you can lift our hands."
(Crowd is chanting "Winner! Winner! Winner!")
"Thank you! See you in the future and maybe somewhere else!"
"Thank you, thank you. Goodbye!"
---
And with that I have decided to never translate anything ever again. Why did I think this would take an hour max? Anyway I hope this was useful to someone out there. It was a fun protect and after this, my English exam better be a 10.
GOODNIGHT!!!!! <3

Hello slug! Do you have any piece of advice you wish you knew when you first started out as a translator? (Or just something you want beginner translators to know)
I could go on about this all day if you let me, so I sat on this ask for a few weeks and tried to condense it down to five of the most helpful-- if a little abstract-- points. Hope this helps!
Usual reminder that I'm referring specifically to J->E media translation, although I would imagine most of this applies to media translation of other language pairs.
Edit: Ohhh Tumblr's being a nasty little man and not letting me post everything. Try to curtail my verbose ass, eh? We'll see about THAT! More in the reblogs it is.
A translation is a piece of creative writing informed by the unique needs and limitations of its author, audience, and medium. Before I write a single word, I always consider what approach is most appropriate for translating the work. This is informed by many things, including but not limited to: - Author(s). A work with a single author (most books, indie games) usually demands stricter fidelity, as the words you write become representative of this person's views within the English audience. A work with multiple authors (most bigger games, virtually all anime) may allow greater creativity in the pursuit of other goals. The author's purpose is also paramount. If the author's primary goal is to make people laugh, you will often want to make your work do just that. Serious works should read seriously. Romantic works should tug at heart strings. Occasionally, authors will provide specific guidelines to follow. You do not always have the ability to push back, even if you think they are horribly misguided--in many cases, the company you're working with can lose business if translation teams cause too much of a fuss. If the end result looks silly, you may be blamed for it in reviews and public perception. Responding publicly is not a good look and may hurt your chances at finding employment elsewhere. Conduct yourself professionally! (End of tangent.) - Audience. While rewriting a text to cater to an audience is almost never appropriate, it will often make you and the audience happier if you consider their expectations for translations. Fan translation readers often want to receive a black-and-white, "correct" interpretation of the text--an understandable desire; I'm not knocking this--and therefore may be more receptive to inappropriately detailed translation notes while less receptive to looser interpretations of the text. Readers of professional translations, especially paid works, often demand a higher level of polish and are less tolerant of juvenile goofery that can sometimes be gotten away with in fan translation. Similarly, genres affect the work. BL audiences are more likely to be LGBT+ than isekai action audiences and will expect translators to use more politically correct language. Some niche genres expect (at least, the appearance of) stricter fidelity at the word level than genres that attract a wider mix of casual and serious fans. - Medium. Even if one translator works on multiple iterations of the same series, the nature of the medium will force them to produce two very different translations. Anime and manga are often more understated compared to works of straight text (visual novels, actual novels, some RPGs) to avoid overwhelming the visuals. Anything that is voiced (anime, some video games) must follow the tone and sentence structure (Ie, "short clause, pause, long clause" is often translated as "short clause, comma, long clause" even if there are many, many other ways to express this idea) of the voiced line. Anything with character limits (anime subs, video games, manga) must be concise and punchy. In manga, the script's visual presentation--line length, what words should be placed together to create a nice shape, word length in skinny bubbles--must also be taken into consideration.

Hello!
A bit of a weird ask, so sorry in advance.
What methods/sites would you recommend using for reading Arcs 5-8 of Re:Zero?
I’ve almost finished season 2 of the anime, and I’m pretty sure this has become one of my new favourite anime/works of media in general.
And considering I keep spoiling myself anyway when I look at Re: Zero tumblr blogs, I figured I should just find a way to catch up with the rest of the series.
You seem smart, and have clearly read Arcs 5-8, so I was hoping that you would be able to provide some advice.
Thanks!
NOTE; this post is now outdated esp when this was written pre-s3!! i may make a new post if people are interested
hi there!! :D no worries for the ask, its cool to have another rezero fan join in the fandom especially on tumblr (which is a very small, curated circle of a bunch of us trading posts around a campfire HAH) and i hope youve really been enjoying the anime and your stay here so far!! :o this is absolutely one of my favorite media as well (if. if you couldnt tell by the blog pfft) and thanks for the compliments haah i am glad to seem smart.
but yes i gotchu on where to read!! ill be giving you a pretty detailed explanation/guide. (this explanation also goes mainly for english speakers / people who wanna experience rezero in english.) (and of course if any other seasoned fans are seeing this feel free to add on if i miss anything or correct me if needed)
Main Route Stuff:
witchculttranslations is where you can find the translations for the entire main route (which is arcs 1-8). this page is where youll find the main table of contents for each arc and you can find arcs 5-8 there!
note that arc 8, at the time of me writing this ask, is still a work-in-progress and the team of translators in this fandom are always hard at work to translate each chapter. also note that arcs 7-8 are "conjoined arcs" - think of it like arc 7 is part 1 and arc 8 is part 2. so if you happen to get caught up to where rezero is currently at, the rezero subreddit regularly updates chat + update threads whenever new rezero novel content comes out in general. youll find updates on translations or summaries for new chapters there.
there's also distinction between web novel and light novel - web novel are the chapters that tappei releases online, light novel are the official finished versions of the chapters that are released for sale. sometimes there's changes between the web novel and the light novel, but for the most part it's either minor changes to improve on the web novel - sometimes it's major, but for arcs 5-8 iirc there isnt any major changes that you need to worry about.
just note that in the wn translations, all/almost all dialogue is written in script-style. let me show a small excerpt from arc 5 chapter 1:
???: “Good job, Subaru, I suppose.” A small silhouette enters Subaru’s view from above. A loveable girl with long, cream hair and an extravagant outfit—Beatrice. Her fluttering dress looks out of place in the meadow as she presents Subaru with a towel. He accepts it and vigorously towels his head dry. Subaru: “Ah, thanks. Was looking to cool down so this’s perfect.”
so yeah the wn will be formatted like this by the way, just in case you didnt know this yet!! i hope thats not much of a turnoff or anything, but dont worry you get used to it - and the story is still pretty great anyway!!
also dont bother with arcs 1-3 wn. its not so important (and you already know all the major info because youve seen the anime) and also arcs 1-3 wn doesnt have the Best writing. tappei himself had to make extremely major changes for the light novel and the light novel (along with the anime and manga) is the finished and polished result.
and of course the light novel comes with illustrations for each arc. the web novel sometimes includes images as well at the beginning of each chapter, but if youd like to see finished and official illustrations for various scenes throughout arc 5-8 its easy to find them if you search them up online!!
the anime also has a few bits of Important cut content from arcs 3-4 - unfortunately i dont have any resources on hand for this ;-;;; but you can look this up on rezero reddit or online in general since a lot of people have made summaries about this. from what i remember in arc 3 (which is the royal selection/white whale/petelgeuse half of season 1!), the main thing is just the reveal that al has some sort of connection to ram (and rem by extension), some sort of connection to satella possibly, and he is ALSO someone that was isekaied into rezero's fantasy world.
as for arc 4 (which is season 2 of course), the anime got down almost all of the general important info you need to know, but there's a lot of important information in the last parts of arc 4 that the anime didnt include. the anime may include this information (and the al stuff from arc 3) later, but you'll need to know it for arcs 5-8. you can find the witchcultranslations guide for arc 4 here - scroll down and youll find the chapter called Appendix: Advent!! you'll need the info in that chapter for later.
if you want, you can also read the chapters after that - theyre sorted under One Day II and are the official arc 4 interludes that take place before arc 5. i do recommend reading through them, but theyre mainly characterization stuff, character dynamics post-arc 4, everyone trying to recover after arc 4, etc etc. the most important info in there is leadup for arc 5 (all the post-arc 4 aftermath stuff) and also some info/introduction on clind and annerose (who are characters that are briefly shown in the anime for like two seconds). these two do play minor roles in arc 4/beginning of 5, but theyre hinted to be important for later. if youre in a hurry to get to arc 5, totally fine to just skim through it, get basic info on clind and annerose then continue into arc 5 or something. or you can look at their wiki pages - totally cool to enjoy rezero however you wish. it's a LOT of reading dont get me wrong HAH.
as for the manga - this is not required reading or anything, the manga has only done arcs 1-4 atm so it's not really super relevant to you since youre almost done with arc 4 already via the anime!! but of course if you havent done so youre welcome to check it out if youd like, the manga artists are pretty great imo. im just gonna show some art from the manga artists here:
isnt it pretty? :O very nice stuff.
anyway thats it for main route content!! now i gotta explain side content.
Side Content:
you can find witchculttranslations' side story table of contents here, which very neatly shows you Every Single Side Story and is updated regularly every time tappei comes out with new side content. and trust me, tappei makes A Lot of side content. i guarantee you a lot of rezero fans havent read every side story (and i still have a lot of side stories to catch up on myself), so theres absolutely no need to read every single side story!! honestly just read the ones you find interesting + the ones that are required reading! im not sure how much of the side content youve heard about, but ill give you a rundown:
this extremely helpful google spreadsheet here (thats also regularly updated) tells you how important each side story is and where you can find it so you dont have to go on a wild goose chase wondering which ones you need to read for the main story. rezero side stories are on a sliding scale of just silly stuff tappei wrote for fun to this is VERY crucial for the main story. that google spreadsheet should help you out with that - both the spreadsheet and witchculttranslations have links to almost every side story available.
(the spreadsheet also tells you important details and who it's centered around + when each side story is safe to read free of spoilers after a certain point - so it's easy to decide when you wanna read the side stories and WHICH side stories you'd like to read!)
also i guarantee you that if you have a favorite character in rezero that character Probably has a ton of side content theyre featured in - so i recommend just hunting down all their side content and devouring it whole because im sure youll have a fun time with that. a lot of side content also fleshes out a ton of side characters as well in general - people who Looked shallow in the anime ARENT shallow at all, i promise. many people have hidden depths, which is one of the fun parts of rezero!
witchculttranslations and the google spreadsheet also tell you what order you might wanna read in terms of when each one takes place. i recommend following that order for the most part if youd like, but if you wanna binge read side content or something later you can also do that after reading arc 6.
that's how i experienced the side stories myself (i started reading them after finishing up with the arcs 5-6 plot) and in a way, i would say that might just be the easiest way to do it given a lot of the side stories take place during arcs 1-6 or before the events of arcs 1-6. itll make you go "ohhh thats what was happening with these background characters during *insert event here that was focused on in the main story*" or "ohhh thats why These Guys are like this" a lot pfft. so its easier to just get out the most important ones / the ones thatre most interesting to you all in a row after finishing up with arc 6 👍
The Ex Novels:
these are THE MOST IMPORTANT side stories. :o theyll be extremely important for arcs 7-8 especially!! also because these are light novels the dialogue is written in normal narrative format so hooray for that!!
anyway theres five ex novels. i recommend reading these after arc 6 so you got them fresh on the brain for arcs 7-8.
however if you happen to be a crusch camp fan, you can read ex novels 1-3 at any time youd like!! these flesh out characters like crusch, felix, wilhelm, and theresia (some of the wilhelm and theresia content was shown a bit in season 1 of the anime!) so youd probably enjoy these even more if youre a fan of any of them. ex novel four also features felix, julius, and reinhard too, if that interests you! (as a knight fan ex novel 4 was my favorite akdndn and i loved ex 1!!). but yeah in general though read the ex novels in order (from 1 to 5 of course) so you dont spoil yourself for other ex novels, but as i said - you can read 1-3 at any time, and in general its best to read the rest of the ex novels after arc 6.
the ex novels in general mainly focus on important historical events in the rezero world and stuff that happens before arc 1. the ex novels are also our first introduction to the nation and empire of vollachia—this is also the country that priscilla is from (and al also came from there)!! you get introduced to vollachia's whole deal in these novels. youll need this info for later!
anyway witchculttranslations and the google sheet dont have links to them because theyre published + officially translated light novels that are easiest to access by buying them, so harder to get a free pdf of them. however i got you (and your wallet) covered because i got pdfs for all of them right here (if these links dont work let me know!):
ex novel 1 - crusch and felix-centric
ex novel 2 - wilhelm and theresia-centric
ex novel 3 - wilhelm and theresia-centric
ex novel 4 - felix, julius, and reinhard-centric
ex novel 5 - priscilla and al-centric
anyway thats the ex novels in a nutshell!! and of course if you want a physical copy of these books (or any of the rezero light novels in general) in english you can buy these online (sites like amazon has them) or at a bookstore. if you live in the US like i do, barnes and noble has them irl as well. or if you happen to live near a kinokuniya store, they also sell rezero irl. kinokuniya is also specifically for japanese media so i highly recommend giving it a try if you happen to be near one (i got a rezero keychain from there also hah, rezero merch is a little hard to get a hold of sometimes).
rezero light novels are also translated in a few other languages (iirc spanish and polish are some of the other languages its translated in) so if youd like that too you can look into it and buy some!!
The If Routes:
if youre not familiar with these by now, theyre basically "what if"/ alternate universe stories where subaru makes a different and Very Major choice at different points of the main route. theyre not necessarily required reading, but some do have some important lore regarding several of the characters and in general most of them are extremely important AUs for rezero that emphasize all the themes of the story. they also show the Insane butterfly effect of subaru’s decisions.
and if youve gotten this far with the anime already im gonna assume you probably like subaru at least a little bit? :o yeah his character gets fleshed out in Very Interesting ways in these routes. other characters also get changed in various ways due to his decisions!
new ifs are also released typically every year on subaru's birthday - april 1. so with every april 1 the entire fandom plays russian roulette because either the if will be a super silly one or a Very Important one LMAO.
also these ifs tend to be mentioned a lot in fandom bc theyre very beloved and interesting side stories, so i highly recommend choosing which ones you find interesting and just have fun reading them!! you can find them on the spreadsheet, if you want to read them in a more chronological order, or you can find them on the main witchculttranslations website as tabs on the side underneath Re:Zero If Stories. (but ill provide the links to each separate one in this post also.)
all current if routes at the moment take place somewhere in the arcs 1-6 range, so you can look at them either after arc 6, like i said, or in order as you read along with the main route. ill give a quick breakdown of each if just in case!!
Pride If - diverges from arc 1; subaru doesnt call for help when fighting the three thugs in the alleyway. slight spoilers for one part of arc 5 in like One Scene of pride if.
Wrath If - diverges from arc 2; subaru accepts beatrice’s offer to help in the loop where rem dies + subaru tries to run away from the mansion. very minor spoilers for ex novels/arc 7-8 (characters who appear in those arcs appear in wrath if).
Sloth If - diverges from arc 3; subaru gives up and runs away with rem instead of dealing with the arc 3 conflict. very minor spoilers (a character who later appears in arc 8 appears here).
Aganau If - diverges from arc 3; in the loop where rem dies in the cave and subaru carries her back to the mansion, he decides to go down another route away from the mansion instead. years later, he’s now older and still alive after almost everyone else has died. this if is one of the routes in the now discontinued lost in memories mobile game (and this is The Most Important route out of the whole bunch anyway). you can find a playthrough + english translation of it here.
Greed If - diverges from arc 4; subaru accepts echidna’s contract. major spoilers for arc 4 of course. minor spoilers for arc 5+ (small plot beats are mentioned iirc). a bit of important lore for characters like echidna and clind. the first edition of it can be found here - make sure to read this first. this is because this if was also given a longer and polished light novel version of it (it was a special that came with some of the season 2 blueray dvd packages?) and you can find an english translation for the extended + final version under the Blueray Novels and Databooks section of witchculttranslations' side content page.
Gluttony If - diverges from arc 6. major spoilers for arcs 5-6.
Mimigau If - this is just a genderbend au that tappei made that starts from arc 1!! almost nothing is changed besides the characters’ genders, biological sex, names, etc. i sadly dont have a link to this one, but iirc this hasnt been fully translated yet? and it's also very much not that important of an if lore-wise so you're not missing out on much. the genderbent character names are really fun though!
Lust If - this is, supposedly, an if that tappei wrote in one sitting and then decided to delete off of the official rezero wn site. this if is just an april fools joke where subaru gets a harem of various rezero girls. and imo its not Particularly Good, but it was meant to be a joke and tappei just wrote it for no reason so ig the quality makes sense haah. and also sadly that harem includes petra iirc which. yeah. not what id call great.
Vainglory If / School If - basically a canon high school au for all of rezero! not a necessary read at all but it's super silly and fun. and if you like anastasia and/or priscilla they have a lot of Fun Interactions in this one. im not sure if all of this if is english translated yet, but you can find chapter one here.
Other Various Ifs from Lost In Memories - i dont have the links to all of these, but lost in memories has a lot of other more minor aus as well, aganau if is just the most important + the darkest one. the other ifs are more lighthearted and just extra stuff for funsies. other big examples include a julius if (subaru calls for help in arc 1 and julius is the one who comes to help), a reinhard if of sorts (takes place around arcs 1-2, it's a sillier story where reinhard just keeps appearing out of nowhere to help subaru every time he needs help), and also an otto if (arc 1 divergence; subaru gets involved with otto and the two of them decide to start a mayonnaise business).
A Side Note About Rezero Video Games:
ok i know your ask is mainly about how to READ rezero but i figured i might as well explain this really quick just in case!!
there are a bunch of rezero video games and none of them are really Necessary, so dont worry about it. theyre either like - silly alternate universe stuff or theyre a bit more of the serious au variety (like aganau if, as mentioned earlier. i dont know every single rezero video game out there (and i think theres still new ones in the works at the time of me writing this??) and also almost none of them are english translated so its hard to experience them if you dont understand japanese.
the two most important ones (aka the ones with more story in them) are gonna be prophecy of the throne and lost in memories (which i mentioned earlier!). and again, these games are not necessary content - theyre mostly just side content that you can look at/watch/play through for fun and if you just wanna see more of your faves. you can check them out at any time since they dont have any major arc 5-8 spoilers.
Prophecy of the Throne - this is visual novel + a divergence of arc 3 where a new and sixth royal candidate emerges and it looks like emilia is the fake royal candidate here.... so yeah the plot is just. it's like a game of among us. but it's a fun story with a lot of different character interactions (so if you really like the entire cast of rezero youre in luck!!) and features a tiny bit of lore about some powerful groups in the fantasy world. a few of subarus failed loops in this one are also Particularly Brutal. you can watch gameplay of it on youtube or play through it yourself (i know that the game IS on steam too) since it's fully english translated (and all the jp vas and english vas reprised their roles as well).
Lost In Memories - as mentioned earlier, this is a now discontinued mobile game. iirc it was a gacha game? a sort of fighting game? and also it's narrative driven with a bunch of different routes. you can find the wiki for it here - it summarizes a lot of the main story beats. theres no official english translations for this game, but theres a lot of fan translations that you can find on stuff like youtube if youre ever interested in any part of the game. also it has a really fun opening song and animated sequence. nonoc's rezero music is great <3
A Side Note About Rezero Youtube:
theres a lot of summary videos for both main content chapters and side stories on youtube. im not sure how accurate these videos are, but i know that at the very least they can give you a brief rundown on the main points for certain chapters/side stories if thats something youd like to have!
theres also an entire team of people making a fan-run audiobook for arc 5. ive given some of their episodes a listen, and i can confirm that theyre absolutely great. you can find their readings of chapter 1-47 on spotify, and on their youtube channel theyre up to chapter 62. i think theyve also expressed their interest in branching out into other rezero content as well? :o so if thats also something youre interested in you can check them out there!
In Conclusion
anyway, that should be all you need to know - thats a summary of basically all important rezero content from here on out!! i know this is like. Super detailed. so i hope that this was helpful and didnt scare you away or anything hah. and i hope you have fun reading through rezero :o !! you got a lot of content to choose from thats for sure!!
but yeah ty for the ask, i hope i explained everything clearly enough :o !! and if you need any clarification feel free to ask!!
#rezero#re:zero#ask#save for later#<< bc this is my most detailed post on 'how to read rezero' aljsdlf so i might just put this in my pinned post for this blog later#also even if ur a seasoned fan and u havent heard of the arc 5 fan podcast yet pls give them a listen. they work so hard on it and i love#their performances there <3

OnlyOneOf's dOpamine concert in Warsaw - my experience (+sentimental musings about the lore and its messages)
The first thing I need to get out of the way is that their crowd interaction game is 1000/10. They went on stage already knowing at least two greetings in Polish, and then Kyubin and Nine did a whole pantomime to explain their understanding of them. They presented "elo" as being very casual, best done with a bro chest bump, and they were correct about that. The funniest thing was when Nine showed "siema" (a greeting that's basically just as casual as "elo") as being very polite and official with a bow of the head. And hey, if he thinks that's the most official greeting in Polish, who are we to argue?
The translator wasn't very good so a lot of the context got lost, but they said that while sightseeing they met an elderly lady who was a lyOn. Then they met an elderly man from Busan who they hoped to turn into a lyOn, but he wasn't interested, and Nine said that's just how people from Busan are lol. Junji talked about how much he loved the view and that it made him feel really sentimental, which somehow turned into JunRie doing a couple dance with a spin. I really wish I had a video of it, I also can't find any taken by other people 😔
When the time for seOul drift came they asked about a Polish car brand, and of course everyone yelled "MALUCH!!!", so it was hilarious when they asked us to do a Warsaw drift in a maluch with them.
At some point the audience started chanting "zajebiście" which basically means "fucking awesome", and they were very keen to learn how to pronounce it. I really hope they remember it cause that would be iconic.
Now let's do a time leap and go back to what happened before the concert.
I watched the fanchat from afar and had the best view of Yoojung who looked really invested in everyone he talked to. I was surprised to see how wide and baby-like Rie's face is, it's really cute. Everyone says they look even better in real life, and personally I don't find that to be true. I think they're exactly as beautiful as they appear on screen. I'll explain it in more detail later.
Now for the fansign, which... my god. My worst fear when I saw how little time was reserved for it came true, because it really went by at the speed of light. I'm really glad I brought the prints to give them, because there was no way they would have noticed the shirt. For reference, here is what I gave them (Yoojung got two):
Junji was first, he smiled and said a cheerful "Hi!", I handed him the album and then quickly gave him the print before having to move on to Rie who was already making eye contact. I don't remember his exact reaction to the print, but he seemed positively surprised. Yoojung was the one who had the biggest reaction, his mouth did the '0' he often does and he either gasped or said "wow", it was all genuinely too fast for me to process and file away every detail. I don't remember Nine's reaction well because I was still reeling from Yoojung's (also I was distracted by his scar makeup, cause damn, it looked realistic). I think he said "thank you", although I'm not sure if he even looked down at the print. Mill also seemed positively surprised. Kyubin was last, and thanks to that I got to watch his reaction for the longest, although it was still barely a second. He looked at the print and then made eye contact with me while he was handing me the signed album. There was something about the look on his face that made me wish I had a moment longer to ask what was going through his head, but unfortunately all I could do was smile, give him an awkward nod goodbye and walk off. Did he recognize that he's seen the drawing before? Was he just surprised? Did he like it? I have no idea.
The hi-touch went by even faster since the staff told us to run. The pictures were taken with about 10-13 lyOns each. After the whole thing was done, I knew that for the next concert (fingers crossed 🤞) I'll have to buy the VVIP+ benefits. To be fair to myself, there was already a lot going on in the days leading up to the concert and preparing for the fanchat would've only added unimaginable levels of stress, but I think that the second time around, I'd be able to approach it with more ease. More on that later as well.
While waiting for the concert to start, some of their songs were playing in the background. The volume was fairly low and the amount of noise in the hall made it impossible to hear anything beyond the bassline and percussion, but that just made me wish that they'd release their entire discography with only those two elements cause let me tell you, it sounded SICK.
I started to really regret not getting the VVIP+ benefit once the concert began and the people in front of me covered the view with not just their heads, but also phones and lightsticks. I was only in the third/fourth row, but everyone in front of me was taller so I couldn't see everything that was going on, and seeing the videos others shared on Twitter it does seem like I missed a lot. Still, it was the perfect spot to get sprayed with water which happened more times than I could count (mostly Kyubin's deed, thanks bro I needed it).
The performances were absolutely top tier, but did anyone expect otherwise? I need them to release the dOpamine remix, I'd listen to it way more than the original. I couldn't see Yoojung during begin at all because he performed a little further back, so I'm really glad that once the medley was done they all sang the choruses of the solos again with the audience. Did I cry? No, but very fucking nearly, especially when we all sang begin together. Another moment that nearly brought me to tears was when Nine finished performing beyOnd and the music cut one line into the second verse. Obviously part of the reason why it sounded so heartbreaking was how unexpected the ending was and how much I wanted it to go on for longer, but it also sounded like someone suddenly took away his voice, so it fit the theme of Things I Can't Say LOve perfectly.
Speaking of having his voice taken away, I'm happy to report mine wasn't. The concert experiences I ruined for myself by freezing up and not joining everyone else in having fun outnumber the ones I approached with ease and made great memories during. I was especially worried since the previous concert I've been to, Odd Eye Circle's, unfortunately fell into the former category. The English version of Loonatic was my skinz before skinz existed, and when they performed it, anxiety got the better of me. I couldn't even open my mouth to attempt to sing along, and I still have regrets about it, because I know it would have been a liberating experience.
But none of that happened this time. I sang every song along with them (was I feeling smug that I knew almost all of the lyrics when the people around me only knew the English bits? yes, sue me). I put my whole fucking soul into my favorite songs, especially mirage, seOul drift and skinz. I can't even begin to describe how special it felt. Yelling the lyrics to skinz with lyOns all around me and OnlyOneOf a few meters away felt like a full circle moment. skinz was the beginning of so many things for me, and it's such a therapeutic song that's been helping me express myself unapologetically slowly, bit by bit over the past two and a half years. It doesn't matter that I don't have as many vivid memories of the concert as I wish I had, because I know that those two hours on June 12th 2024 have been euphoric and liberating, and I will carry that feeling with me every day, getting a little taste of it each time I listen to these songs again.
While after the fact I do wish the concert had gone on for longer, at the time it felt like the perfect length. The amount of songs in the encore was a genuinely nice gesture, because they were slowly getting people prepared for the end while constantly whipping out another performance, which is a really smart way to leave the audience in high spirits. I think they ended up performing four songs for the encore - OOO yOu, angel, lOve me and dOpamine (without choreo this time), and then the first verse and chorus of time leap right before they left the stage.
The acoustics in Progresja aren't the best, but it was an amazing experience to hear them sing live. I feel like in a lot of recordings it's kind of hard to tell if they're singing live or if it's playback because the vocal and music layers sort of merge into one. I might share the videos that my mom took with her phone, because hers actually captured that live quality of their singing.
I know me writing this here won't change anything, but I have to put I out there - these kinds of stages weren't made for K-pop acts. I can't imagine anyone aside from the people in the first row or someone very tall was able to see the elements of choreography that took part on the floor or the subtitles on videos (which come on, they at least could have had the foresight to place them on the upper part of the screen, not the bottom). K-pop groups - or anyone who doesn't just stand there holding a mic but has a visual side to their performance - should perform in buildings that are constructed like theaters, with the floor gradually rising so everyone can see the stage comfortably. It seems that the Madrid venue was exactly like that, so if anyone reading this was there or at a different concert in a similar venue I'd love to hear about your experience!
Now something that might cheer up anyone who hasn't seen them perform live - this concert made me very grateful that cameras exist and allow us to watch their performances filmed professionally. It's obvious that they're amazing performers from a distance, but only when a camera gets up close and captures the way they express every song and choreography with their faces does it actually hit. I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, Yoojung is such an impressive and expressive performer, both in his body and face, and having close ups of his facial expressions is a gift from heaven.
As I laid down in bed and my emotions were cooling off, it dawned on me how many good things in my life I owe to them and how special it is to have this one artist I can point to and say "the time I spent with them changed me for the better". I think seeing them live isn't even the pinnacle of my experience as a fan, but everything I carry with me every day that I have thanks to them. That being said, I really want to see them again. Most of what I've written down here was right after the concert, but now I don't feel like I remember as much as I want to. Nonetheless, this was my favorite concert among the ones I've attended and the most special experience of my life so far. Next time I'm getting VVIP+ and getting closer to that stage so I can finally enjoy the view in peace. I'm not even taking the option that they won't return here into account. They will last forever and they will have an infinite number of world tours.
This is where this post stops being a concert review and becomes sentimental musings of an unhinged person, so strap in. I did my best to structure this section in a way that would clearly communicate my thoughts to someone who isn't the owner of my brain and therefore doesn't have the exact mind map of interpretations of the various elements of OnlyOneOf's lore. The things I say here might be something most of us have thought or felt at some point, so what I hope to achieve here is simply it put into words, because I don't think anyone else has done that in the context of OOO.
I have to start by defining what exactly I mean whenever I say “the lore” (please don't make a drinking game out of every time I say "lore" in this post, you will die). Just like with any other K-pop group who has a deeply thought out concept, “the lore” encapsulates everything related to their conceptual work - songs, music videos, lyrics, teasers, MV descriptions, symbolism, references etc. What makes my definition of OOO’s lore deviate from how I'd define other K-pop groups' lore is the elements that make OOO's lore itself different from any other. K-pop storylines are known to be complex, but the ones I’m familiar with can all be described in the form of a story with specific characters played by the members, various events, superpowers and plot twists. OOO’s lore is more focused on emotions - loneliness, desire, love, fear. Because of that, the facts of what happens in the work itself can take second place to the emotional value of it. Their story can't be analyzed like a book with a beginning, middle and end, because it's too ambiguous and multifaceted for that. We can instead discuss the themes and observe the emotional progression happening within the lore. I like to compare analyzing their lore to untangling the chord of your earphones, because when you start getting frustrated at yet another impossible knot, you can just give it a rest, put the earphones in and enjoy how their art makes you feel.
I think it was the youtuber LOU who first viewed something OOO had made through the lens of cubism in her video about dOra maar, but I'd take it a step further and say that OOO's art makes the most sense if you look at everything from a cubist perspective, i.e. there isn't a single perspective on anything, but multiple viewpoints that all work together to create what we could call "the lore". It becomes easier to take a look at the whole picture the lore paints if you keep that in mind.
We observe an internal journey across various songs that connect to each other in smaller or bigger ways. We can, but we don't have to view all of them as being one person's story. The lore contains a collection of themes that create an ambiguous, unnamed protagonist whom we see represented by the bOy wearing cOmme des garçOns or the characters in the be series. None of them are THE protagonist, but they all make up the protagonist, because they all offer different perspectives on the themes that drive OOO's art and have been building up the group's identity over the past five years.
All of what I've mentioned thus far is just creative fiction. There is another perspective on their art that has real life implications, because there are real people whose job it is to express the inner world of the protagonist through songs and performances. OOO's music videos acknowledge their status as idols in the same way other K-pop groups with a fictional narrative do - they break the fourth wall by showing snippets of choreo and lipsyncing in between storytelling. OOO could be written off as nothing more than actors in entirely fictional roles if it wasn't for how intertwined they are with the themes in their art, in no small part thanks to how active they are in the creative process, but even beyond that. Their job as idols is acknowledged within the narrative (skinz MV, beyOnd description, the name of undergrOund idOl). So, their life as idols with a fandom is yet another perspective through which we can view their themes.
Here is where our role as spectators becomes important, because this aspect of the lore couldn't exist without our input. The way we respond to it and the conversation we create around it is what gives it meaning.
One side of the lore is the human side - the intimate and natural imagery of the libidO MV, the cozy warmth of cOy, the fun of blOssOm's choreography. On the other side, there are parts of the lore that feel emotionless and cold - MVs like sage, time leap, asOiaf, dOpamine, or graphics for Off angel and dOra maar. This dichotomy is something that can be used to discuss a lot of themes, like emotional distance in romantic relationships or a feeling of being ostracized by society. For the benefit of this post, I'll focus only on parasocial relationships between artists and fans.
Being a fan is both an experience of intense connection and distance that goes way beyond just oceans and borders. The one-sided nature of a parasocial relationship can be difficult to navigate for some people, but it seems to be something a lot of us need. It's comforting to know that you can develop a strong emotional bond with someone you're completely detached from and don't have to do any of the work a real interpersonal relationship needs; you just get to enjoy yourself as you receive art and entertainment. But that comfortable distance distorts the way we perceive the artist's personhood. We know and understand that they're a fellow human being, but we can't help that we never have an opportunity to experience them as such. They’re not people to us in the sense that they have no physical presence in our lives, they're just a series of recorded images projected onto a screen, filtered and airbrushed. We can watch them act like regular people on and off the stage, but whether we want to or not, we perceive them as more glamorous than anyone we meet on a daily basis. How could we not when part of their job is to tower over us while looking like a perfectly crafted illustration every time they get on stage?
This is where another theme present in OnlyOneOf’s art comes in, which is putting someone on a pedestal. In their songs, it's discussed in the context of romantic, artist/muse or God/follower relationships, but the part of the lore I'm talking about here is something that exists in the way we as spectators perceive them and their work.
Idols are human - I'm aware I'm not making an interesting point by acknowledging that. The reason I've been inspired to write about this in the first place is that I realized how being in physical proximity to someone you have a parasocial relationship with can shift your perception of their humanity.
I didn't buy the VVIP+ benefit because I knew I would be way too nervous about those six minutes and I'd probably spend most of that time awkwardly pretending I can hear what they're saying through the noise all around. Never meet your heroes, because you might make an idiot out of yourself, or however the saying goes. I thought I was in the vast minority who felt this way due to my anxiety while other lyOns would be ecstatic to get to meet them face to face. However, while I was standing in the queue I overheard a lot of people talking about how nervous they were, which is funny, because why the hell would any of us be nervous? They're the ones who are about to have a crowd of strangers observing their every move and recording every little mistake, they should be feeling the most nervous of us all! This got me thinking about why anyone would be nervous to meet their favorite artist, and the conclusion I came to is that it's intimidation. We're not wrong to feel intimidated; I think it's perfectly normal and natural in this scenario. I'd say it’s also quite healthy, because you’re not able to get too familiar with someone who intimidates you, which ensures the emotional distance required within a parasocial relationship is kept. As with everything, it's about balance. The problem appears when the emotional distance between a regular audience member and an idol grows so large that it becomes dehumanizing. Unfortunately, seeing how Korean netizens and international fans alike latch onto tiny things to criticize about what idols do and say, this is still a very relevant topic. A pedestal that's too high can result in an approach that's entitled, cold, and often cruel. An idol becomes an imitation of a person, someone untouchable and unshakeable. Any words thrown their way, especially online, feel insignificant in comparison to their towering presence. For the people with an especially cruel streak, finding out their actions have a psychological impact on a public figure probably makes them feel like they regained some power in this uneven relationship. To them, it's nearly impossible to perceive an idol as someone with a right to receive empathy, because in their mind, the idol is too far removed from the humanity they observe in people who exist around them.
What's important here is that the lore shows us the full spectrum of who OOO are - they're idols, singers, performers, actors; they're people with fears, desires, intimate stories and hidden sides; people who have dopamine running through their bodies, people who need connection with others and people who have things they can't say. These things can't be separated from the members, because they make sure to take this message beyond the art itself. They don't filter themselves nearly as much as most idols have to - they swear, make dirty jokes, write songs about sex, casually talk about kissing men and offhandedly mention having a romantic life without apologizing for it. They're underground idols, and they intentionally distance themselves from the unforgiving audience members who would have a heart attack if their faves acted one tenth as relaxed as OOO do on a daily basis.
What I'm trying to get at here is that OnlyOneOf's art is created with the intention to create more empathy - for queer people, for mistreated lovers, for discarded muses, for people reconciling their faith with their sexuality, for one's own self despite having a lot of internalized issues. Through doing that, they override the loneliness inherent to the stories their songs tell and create possibilities for connection. They give us art that makes us feel less lonely by being a reflection of our messiest, most intimate feelings and experiences, and in turn they ask us to recognize them as a reflection of us and to not isolate them from the full human experience just because of the job they chose and its restrictions. When Jaden Jeong said they're the future of boy groups, I think he hoped they could influence audiences to humanize the figure of the idol.
I watched them between the professionally executed performances as they riffed off of each other, laughed and zoned out while looking at the audience. There were no cuts to a different, more flattering angle, no hand in the editing room controlling what footage sees the light of day. They look more beautiful in real life not because anything about their features looks different, but because the reality of being in the same space with them and finally getting to experience them just as any other human being, even with some distance still present, is a very special experience that holds beauty of its own. At that moment, I couldn’t remember why I was nervous before, and I began to wish I had sat down with them and shared a short conversation about any random thing. It would have been imperfect, but there was no reason to be afraid of that. They're just six guys of flesh and blood who clearly love what they do and whose work has given me happiness and purpose over the past two and a half years, and I would have cherished those six minutes of interaction.
On the train home, I discovered a more sentimental feeling while listening to them, especially the songs they performed, but not exclusively. There was something more personal and artistic I heard in their voices that made each song feel like more than just a recording, but a special moment in time shared by people who created something they wanted to share with others. This feeling fades the more the time distance grows between the current me and the me that attended the concert. Two hours weren’t enough.
I don't know how to end this post other than to say how fascinating it is that including imagery of fan/idol culture and technology within the lore so it mixes with all these deeply intimate stories makes everything OOO do a living piece of art. Simply existing as idols and people fuels the reason for the existence of their concept in the way that it currently exists, and I just think it's incredible.
#oh hey it's the post that took me two weeks to write#was it worth it? i mean i think so but you see for yourself#onlyoneof#onlyoneof dopamine tour#onlyoneof theory#personal#theorychoerim

FINALLY FINISHED TUVY'S REF‼️ And I guess a new one for L.L., too.
Some more info under the cut ^_^
Dialtown OC/self insert, naturally.
The reason why L.L. goes by Tuvy here is because after getting their new head they were all anxious and confused and when someone asked them who they were they tried to answer TV and Luly at the same time, and then they were too shy to correct them, so Tuvy stuck.
It's worth saying the TV is a half assed measurement; it can break and come off and the truth will be revealed. But they're hoping that won't happen. Because that'd be pretty Bad.
They're poor and homeless because all their money is obsolete in this place, but they don't mind it. The homeless scene in this place is lovely.
Post chapter 2, however, they started to work for Mingus in the town's mafia. Their inherent silliness counters the fact they're actually very skilled at killing.
They are dating a handful of people, also. Nonbinary, poly and bi, and with nothing to do? They're a menace to society. If you care about this you can go here for more info.
Also, some design info!
Everything that applies to L.L. applies to them which means YES, they have the dog tail.
EXCEPT! They can't get tiny here. The tv doesn't allow that.
The outfits from left to right are: chapter 1-2; base L.L. outfit; work uniform from the last place they were in; mingus work uniform
They also wear the jacket over their shoulders for sensory reasons. Sleeves are annoying </3 !
The buttons are also painted on with nail polish. And they're morse code. Feel free to translate them for a fun Easter Egg :)
TV is also a Panasonic TV VCR Combo, or at least inspired on one.
And yes. If you stick something in the slot you'll meet a mouth. So be careful. Or don't.

About me.
I'm new here and still figuring out Tumblr. But someone helped me out, and I realized Tumblr is actually a pretty decent platform. I liked it, and I appreciated its vibe. Maybe this is the right place for me—a little corner of the internet to call my own.
I'd like to share my drawings, lore, and photos here. To connect with people, find other SCP fans, and maybe finally write some roleplay. I hope that someone will appreciate what I create—it would encourage me to keep going. I also want to learn new things, work on my insecurities, and interact with people online just like I do in real life.
The lore I’m building revolves around the “Old Reality,” a project I’ve been working on for 4–5 years. It’s a part of the SCP universe, and the main character of this story is my persona, Dr. D. Patch. It’s my copying mechanism. Because of that, it can be potentially triggering, containing psychological horror, religious and sexual trauma, toxic relationships, gore, body horror, and other heavy themes. My goal isn’t to romanticize these topics—that’s not healthy. I’ll be sharing parts of my work here, and I don’t mind answering polite questions about it.
(Remember that cringe culture is dead!)
On this platform, Tumblr I think I'll just be myself, sometimes RP as my persona. Do arty stuff, make friends - shits and giggles. And sometimes be more serious - learn to draw better, help others if they want it. This blog is "My Diary".
When talking to me, approach with respect. Treat me as a person with thoughts and feelings. Don’t trigger me intentionally. Honesty and questions mean everything to me, and the words "please", "thank you", "sorry" are basic manners, even if it’s just the internet.
If you think I'm problematic/doing something wrong - tell me about it in a polite way + what I can change. I don't intend to hurt anyone with my behavior or be mean. Additionally, being aggressive, unforgiving towards me is a huge trigger for me, so try to avoid it (If it affected me, I'll just be very quiet.).
My profile is a safe space for people of all religions, races, queer, MOGAI, alterhumans, systems, and agere. If I don’t understand something, you’re welcome to explain it to me.
However, toxic individuals such as; misandrists, misogynists, all kinds of incels, "nice guys" & "nice girls" , TERFs, transmedicalists, fatphobes, homo-/trans-/-intersex/queer-/xenophobes, bigots, racists, fascists, religious extremists, fanatics, or anyone pushing hateful ideologies are not welcome here. The same goes for people who are judgmental, edgy, aggressive, mean, or who come here to complain, harass, or insult without offering constructive criticism (when I specifically ask for it).
I primarily speak Polish, but this blog will be in English. I use a translator and might make mistakes since I’m still learning. My DMs are open—feel free to invite me to servers, share your art, lore, or just chat. You can even vent and treat me as a friend. I consider myself quite sociable and enjoy conversations. I don’t ghost or block people without giving a reason first. I’m most active on Discord, and my username there is: “pharisee_son.”
Oh, and my commissions are open. I mostly draw for Polish clients (I’m not sure how to accept payment from abroad). My prices are affordable, and I let the buyer decide the value of my work. I’m also open to art trades with anyone. I mainly draw character designs, references, redesigns, or corrections. However, I struggle with poses and perspective. Still, I’m good at rendering, coloring, and coming up with ideas. I can draw different types of characters, though elderly ones might be more challenging for me. I have no issues drawing furries. Please don’t ask me to draw fetish art, but gore is okay. During a commission, I need to stay in constant contact and will ask many questions. You’ll send me references and guide me on how you want the work done. This helps me feel more confident, and you’ll get what you’re looking for. I’m not a professional artist.
I use he/him pronouns, my chosen name is Dante, and I’m a trans man. I’m 18 years old. I’ve never used substances and am generally against them. I live in the countryside with my beloved aunt, and I spend my days working on the farm or pursuing my hobbies. My fashion style leans towards punk, and my room is filled with a collection of taxidermy, dried plants, and old books. The bad things that happened to me in the past are behind me now, and I’m trying to enjoy life. I am in recovery. As for my diagnoses, oh golly, I don’t know, but – my medical records are a mess (Medical neglect).
I am here thanks to @banesberry-anomoly :D

Okay Hello, no one knows me, I have 0 follower, I never post and no will read this but I HAD to share this Miguel O'hara/ Y/N thought, which can probably be applied to a lot of characters
Imagine : The sun is setting during a chill day in summer. In a cemetery, Miguel is sat before his sweet daughter's grave. How long has he been there ? Don't know, but when he arrived the sun was high in the blue sky. He talks to the rectangle marble stone in front of him, the picture of Gabriella never ceasing to smile.
The gravel crunches under the feet of someone, but Miguel doesn't seem to mind nor to even notice, focused on all the things he wants to tell his lovely Gabi.
The person stops in front of a grave, probably the one of someone they loved and cared for. A family member ? A friend ? Only them know. The scent of the flower bouquet they hold fill the air around. They stare at the name(s) written in golden engraved letters with a soft grin. A sigh passes through their lips as they slowly start to bend to place the colorful bouquet of hand-picked flowers, when their eyes drift to the broad figure of a man crouched on before another polished stone.
The person scan him, no ounce of judgment in their mind; He happily talks and chuckles to the photo despite the obvious remorse rolling down his cheeks.
A discreet grin is now drawn on their lips, endeared by the sight. They approach him, carefully stepping forward not to startle him, but he doesn't seem to have noticed them.
Miguel eagerly tells Gabriella about the latest news that happened in his Spider life ; how the cafeterias vending machine was completely destroyed after everyone fought for the last piece of some random candy he always found too sweet and doesn't understand the hype for, how he finally found one of Lyla's jokes funny, how he forgot what Jess looked like without her round belly and how healthy her baby is..
He is involved in each of his words.
A set of legs enter his vision. He immediately shoots his gaze up, ready to pick a fight with whoever interrupted him and Gabi in their one-sided conversation.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.." The stranger embarrassly states. While he raises an eyebrow, still perplexed, they kneel down. Their face always showed a soft expression clearly displaying their lack of wrong intentions. Under his curious eyes, the person starts to choose some flowers in the lot, seriously thinking about the one that suited the best the framed, smiling girl. Happy of their second little bouquet, they proudly grin, and place the gathering of flowers on the grave, in front of the picture.
"I hope she isn't allergic to pollen" They say, offering a warm smile to the man, who, despite being dumbfounded by their action, seems to appreciate it.
Miguel chuckles.
"She was, but she loved flowers too much to care about it. I always had to carry allergy medication because of that"
They both chuckle. He was glad to share her memory with someone
"I can't blame her ! I always loved to go on walks just to pick every kind of flowers I came across to"
"Believe me, she did the same. The appartement was always full of dead flowers because she was too sad to throw them away"
Both of them laugh, and, the now 'not really a stranger anymore' settles on their rear and crosses their legs, eager to know more.
Jeez HAAAAAA
(Fanart not mine, I don't have the name of the artist, sadly.. I randomly picked it from my gallery, I'm really deeply sorry)
Also, I'm not a native English speaker, and since this is a drabble, I didn't take the time to look for translations or correct orthography, so don't hesitate to tell me if I made a mistake, that's how Iearn haha

Celeste Irish translation, update #3
Hey again folks! It's been almost a week since I last posted, but I'm glad to say that I'm feeling a lot better now and slowly getting back into my usual routine after gettin' real sick. That aside, now that I'm feeling better, I will be resuming work on the project! I wanted to provide a quick overview of how this entire thing is being done, so here it is:
Pretty simple stuff, all of the game's text is stored in a single text file in the game files. Everything near the top of the file is used for things such as menus and UI. The bottom half (With the dividing line) is where all the in-game dialogue is stored. Given how the file is formatted, I'll be doing all the non-dialogue stuff first, I also have no intention of making any texture changes, as they are not done in any other language (with the exception of Japanese in some places). Plus, I don't really have the technical know-how to get the game to swap textures depending on language :,) All that being said, I'm hoping to release something soon and I would like to gradually release more and more of the translation as I work on it for y'all to see where I'm at and potentially provide feedback! On the topic of feedback, I've also been thinking about opening an email for it when I release the first build, so that anyone more knowledgeable than me can correct my mistakes (which there will most definitely be!). The first build I put out is going to be a complete non-dialogue translation, pretty much everything in terms of menus and UI will be finished. After polishing that up a little, I'll move onto the dialogue. Anyways, that's all I had to say for this update, apologies for the long post and lack of stuff to show, I'm doing my best to get back into the swing of things and I hope you'll all enjoy what I put out. Stay safe and have a good one!

I have something hilarious to share. I study history and rn I have this lecture from ancient history. Yesterday we analysed the life of Shamshi-Adad — a great leader of Assyria. He based his actions and politics heavily on Sargon the Great (who btw I always mispronounce as Sauron the Great and my professors are fuckin dying every time).
So anyway, bitch was talented leader, conquered a lot of lands and shit, BUT WHAT I WANT TO SAY IS THAT HE HAD TWO SONS. And due to the survival of many clay tables from ancient Mari WE HAVE CORRESPONDENCE HE HAD WITH HIS YOUNGER SON (Yasmah-Adad).
Let me just say he roasted the shit out of this poor guy, while also praising the older one (sounds familiar lotr fans?)
Here are some golden moments from those letters, and bc I study and read them in polish translation, I stole english version from online sources (I checked if they are correct tho, so i hope it’s all fine).
You are a child, not a man; have you no beard on your chin? While here your brother is victorious, down there you lie about among the women […].
But there is more, this time Yahmad-Adad answered his father.
Thus (speaks) Yasmah-Addu, Your son. I listened to the Tablet which Adda sent me, which ran as follow: 'How much longer do we have to keep you on a leading rein? You are a child, you are not a man, you have no beard on your chin! How much longer are you going to fail running your household properly? Don't you realize that your brother is commanding enormous armies? Do you even command your palace and household properly?’ That is what Adda wrote to me. Now, how can I be a child and incapable of directing affairs when Adda promoted me? How is it that, although I grew up with Adda from when I was a child, now some servant or other has succeeded in ousting me from Adda’s affections? So I am coming to Adda right now, to have it out with Adda about my unhappiness!"
…
It’s so fuckin Denethor, Faramir, Boromir coded i can’t—
Also the title Adda for father? Ironic.
So yeah. That’s all i wanted to say today, go drink some water now

Didn’t Know I Was Lonely Til I Sensed You
AO3 Link
Summary:
He spun around and flung his magic at the predator, freezing when his magic also formed a shield around the man. “What?”
The man watched him and quirked a brow. “Your magic won’t let you hurt me. I wonder what that means.”
Stiles lived in Poland with his family. It was the only home he had ever known and he had no plans to leave. It was as he was walking home from the bar where he worked that the hairs on the back of his neck stood up and his spark flared to life. “I’d think very carefully about your next move, wolf.”
“I’m not a threat to you. I—”
Stiles scoffed. “It’s not wise to corner a magic user. Making one of us feel threatened guarantees that we’ll lash out!”
He spun around and flung his magic at the predator, freezing when his magic also formed a shield around the man. “What?”
The man watched him and quirked a brow. “Your magic won’t let you hurt me. I wonder what that means.”
Stiles sneered. “Nothing. It just means that I don’t truly view you as a threat.”
The man chuckled deeply. “Och mały króliku. Nie mam zamiaru cię skrzywdzić, pomimo tego, jak apetycznie wyglądasz. Czy naprawdę się mnie nie boisz?
Stiles’s heart pounded and his knees felt weak. “Mówisz doskonale, ale nie jesteś stąd. Czy władasz biegle językiem polskim?
“Masz rację. Nie jestem stąd. Zostałem tu przyciągnięty. Tak. Biegle posługuję się językiem polskim.”
“Drawn here how? By what?”
The man stepped closer, his lips hovering by Stiles’s ear. “Isn’t it obvious?”
Stiles vigorously shook his head, his breath hitching. “No?”
The man offered a soft smile. “You.”
Stiles felt like he had been sucked into a black hole and well he had no complaints as evidenced by the end result of him in bed with the wolf, both of them fully satiated.
“I sensed you. There was a longing that I couldn’t explain. I was lonely.”
Derek smiled wryly. “As was I. It wasn’t easy to leave home but at the same time it was as easy as breathing. There’s nothing for me at home now, and with a crazy ex standing trial…” he trailed off.
Stiles was able to read the wolf’s aura easily and felt brave enough to make an offer. “Derek?”
“Mm?” the wolf murmured, nosing at the spark’s neck.
“You can stay here.”
“Here?”
“Yes. W-With me.”
“With you?”
Stiles took a deep breath to steel himself in case Derek said no but persevered with his offer. “Yes. Stay here with me.” Derek didn’t reply and first and Stiles started to feel nervous. He quickly added, “You don’t have to but I…” Stiles trailed off and then cleared his throat. He knew he could do this. He was a spark damn it. “I-I don’t want you to leave.”
Derek stilled, the words finally breaking through the scent fog of mate that he had been basking in and he pulled back to meet Stiles’s earnest expression, the amber eyes full of hope. “Are you sure?”
Stiles smiled and softly said, “Stay?”
Derek smiled and gently kissed those perfect pink lips. “Yes.”
“Really?” Stiles breathed, his heart racing. Was this really happening? Was he finally going to stop believing he’d be alone forever?
Before his mind managed to wander too far, Derek cupped his jaw and rested their foreheads together. “There’s nowhere else I want to be.”

Happy birthday!! Just wanna say while I'm here that you are truly the no.1 Witcher scholar and I love your work, and also I actually find it very moving that even though you are not Polish and don't speak Polish, you treat the books with such respect and deep understanding of the culture and language!! I wish everyone engaged with the works that they love in this way. I'm Polish but I'd since moved away and have a lot of bitterness towards the social environments I grew up in, but the Witcher is the one thing from Poland I truly love and makes me feel connected to my heritage and idk I just love your work sorry for the long message!
oh thank you!! i am so flattered by your words 😅 all i can say is, i try my best, of course! and a short essay response incoming...
the witcher is not only a translated work, but a multilingual and multicultural/national community, fanbase, and the american fanbase from which i'm coming is a relatively new development in the broader fanbase, especially as it relates to the books. it's more complex than how i'll phrase it here, but, essentially when you're in the fandom of the witcher books, you're in a predominantly polish other slavic language speaking space, even if you only speak english, because the books were created in polish and the whole thing has had over 30 years to gain traction and fans in poland and other slavic language speaking countries.
(i think there tends to be a certain level of entitlement from people, alright, americans whose primary language is english, where it is expected that everything be in english - you hear it all the time, stories of tourists going to a different country and demand english be spoken for everything for them. while english is indeed commonly spoken in poland, i think it would be a bit ridiculous, bringing it back to the witcher fandom, to expect every online interaction and material you come across to be in english, and expect to never use polish sources or look at the original text in polish. it may not be something you're skilled in or know about, but it's an opportunity for you to learn and ask questions. just embrace that, strive for understanding, even if you don't have any which you're beginning with. being prepared to be wrong and mistaken, being willing and open to being corrected. so, treating with respect and striving to better understand cultures which one doesn't belong to should be step one, i hope, at least in this community!)
i don't believe that there is such a thing as an english side of the fanbase which stands on its own separate from the original polish (and czech and russian, the first two languages witcher was translated into) fanbase(s), because the english fanbase was seeded and encouraged by these fans, a good portion of whom were bilingual and helped the fanbase grow by posting in english, gaining visibility and encouraging others to join and read the books. so you can't really have the english fandom without the polish fandom, it's like a branch off of a tree. and, with the majority of lifelong, or in other capacity dedicated and passionate, fans, coming from poland, and some of these fans also engaging in english-speaking places online, we're going to share ideas and end up admiring each other and becoming friends! and there's, again as always, a lot you can learn from your friends.
addressing the witcher as a work specifically, its identity is inseparable from its written language. with translations to other slavic languages, there's not an exceptional amount lost, but when it comes to english... well... though the story is there (except for a few glaring errors), there's not only lot of language-specific word choice, wordplay, and jokes that are lost in the english language and especially in the the official translation (which was crafted, i think to be as much of an "easy read" for an english reader as possible, and not to preserve sapkowski's style, character, and vocabulary), but also because a lot of the cultural phenomenon, celebration, element, described in the books, simply doesn't exist for the english reader and is untranslatable without an explanation of the context and history. sapkowski, who speaks italian, has mentioned the saying "traduttore, traditore," (translator, traitor) in interviews.
for just a few examples, torque at the end of the short story "edge of the world" saying "goodnight" being the perfect end to the story, because of the saying where the devil says goodnight. or the saovine tradition of burning straw falka dolls resembling the burning (or drowning) of marzanna effigies. and, also related to saovine, the offerings of honey, groats, and vodka for spirits being a mirror image of dziady. all of this is something that's not common knowledge for the english reader, it's stuff i learned about by looking it up, or having a conversation about, or reading a forum page online, or learned however, but learning about it made my enjoyment of the story a lot richer because i could (in part) go back and appreciate the depth of realism and familiarity woven into the world. and the act of seeking that out, or having that conversation, the act of learning itself was rewarding, to satisfy curiosity and engage my mind and social brain.
also just, a lot of the time, i'm trying to figure out where sapkowski's mind was at when he wrote some of this stuff, or who are these characters and what are these characters feeling, and all we have of them, to understand them, is their words. and the official translation isn't able to translate word for word. so looking at the polish edition and working through the sentence to translate (and looking into the nuances in definitions of words and phrases), i've found, can really help my reading comprehension and interpretation of the scene or character.
of course, sapkowski was taking "paneuropean" inspiration from multiple different cultures, not all of them slavic, a lot of them western european, weaving all these different fantasy and folktale sources together to create something diversely culturally rich. but as an english reader, i was motivated to seek out, "how does that line originally go in polish?" or "what's the original folktale sapkowski is referencing here?" because it just makes it that much more fun! it's part of the fun! of course an english reader could just pick up the books, breeze through them, and get a lot of enjoyment out of that, but without investigating any of the language or culture, it remains surface-level enjoyment. it's so rewarding to be able to exist in a community and friend circles that are positive towards learning and teaching in a casual way, it has made the witcher a lot more than just books for me. and all i'm doing personally is just having fun and learning as i go!

September Check-In
WoW another month has passed already... Is time getting faster or my sense of impending end is just getting stronger...
ANYWAY, existential dread aside... August kinda felt like a mix bad. I did do things, but many days I felt like I didn't do enough (prob that dread again - also injury yay). So let's get into it!
Long post ahead again:
Recap of last month's progress
Recap of last week's stuff
Other IF stuff done
Other IF events
Plan for September
- _ -
The plan for the past month was to:
play more IF: ✅, see reviews in @manonamora-if-reviews
whip out something for the Single Choice Jam: ✅ The Dinner*
fix the website: ✅, new and improved*
write for a WIP: 😐not for a WIP but Goncharov Escapes! was remastered (shelved!), and currently working on DOL-OS.
add to the SG guide: ❌, I have a list though
code TTATEH: ❌, MelS isn't done with the edits (long shot).
*still kind of a WIP
I did kind of predict I wouldn't be able to write much in new content...
- _ -
So what about this week:
DOL-OS has been the main think I've been working on this week. And quite a bit of effort has been dumped in there. Since last week progress update:
the translation has been fully completed, and added to the game files (not all is properly coded)
I added some keyboard QoL for the starting puzzle
the UI re-design 75% complete (like coded complete) <- this is taking so freaking long, but it's worth it
I corrected some bugs (padlock, links)
I've been thinking in more details how the added content would look like (text mainly) and how much writing would be needed (a few thousands, I'd wager).
Obviously, I am not done with the project, but I am getting closer. The current hurdle is the finishing the UI-redesign: I really want things to be pristine in terms of visual quality and that requires a lot of testing and detail change. I have a few minor block of passages left and the booting screen to fix, before I can focus on the final beat of the game (not much UI-wise, more regular coding).
This final part will take quite a bit of time as well, because it too requires a bunch of testing (and there's a few accessibility concerns I need to take care of...). I'm confident it won't be too difficult, just... tedious.
But I really want to do a good job with this remaster, adding all the stuff I couldn't the first time before of time constraint (fun fact: DOL-OS was completed in a month...) and coding capabilities (I learned a ton since). I know people really enjoyed it the first time around, but I know it can be even better. Like it should really have that first-place vibe it deserves :P
I am hoping to be done by next weekend, but depending on how polish I can make it, I might need an extra week on top of it. (This would track: 4-ish weeks to make the OG version, 4-ish weeks to remaster it...).
In the meantime, I might post a few screenshots of the redesign and show it in comparison to the current version.
Some of you have noticed the blog has kinda disappeared. It's not gone, just... password locked. The notifications have been run over a bit by bots, the inbox received a few impatient guests, and it's in need of a good cleaning anyway.
I still want to work on the project (I have so many plans), but since writing anything for it has seemed impossible for the past months, I needed a cleaner break from it.
This project is not over, or abandoned. I kind of see it as my magnum opus (because of the sheer size it should have at the end). But because of this, I've realised I need to plan and re-plan things around the project more carefully. And that includes the blog and its content (original or reblogged). I probably should have made a post, huh... but then again, I always to things on a whim :P
Until things have calmed down, it will stay locked. The game, however, is still available to play.
MelS has been doing his best with progress, but lots of IRL work ahead of him, so he's been pacing himself and write when he can. He's kind of sad our hope to wrap up the game by Halloween probably won't happen, but he's trying his best to finish it as soon as possible!
Slightly related: one ending of the game has been written :P (MelS got tired of writing variation, so to do something new he wrote a bit on the last chapter).
Over at @manonamora-if-reviews, I finished reviewing all Single Choice entries. It was loads of fun to see how people interpreted the restrictions. The Jam was even mentioned on Emily Short's blog (patron saint of IF)!
Also in the reviewing department, I'm taking a crack at the Goncharov jam. I had reviewed a few already, but I thought this might be a good time to tackle on the rest! I think I am about half with them. It's nice to get back into the Gonch meme, especially after the remaster
The upload time will be sporadic, like is was the past month.
After that, I think I'll play from French games...

Some IF Stuff:
Today is the last day to submit your list of best IF to the TOP 50 list.
Have an IF ghost in your project drawer? Come share and submit it to the Bring Our Your Ghost Jam. Deadline is September 15th!
The IFComp intent deadline has passed, but if you plan on voting for the entries, you can still create an account!
Similarly, if you are planing on reviewing the IFComp entries, you can get your account settled on the IFDB (many peeps create one at the same time during the voting period, and the system sometimes flags it as spam, and hide ratings/reviews).
September is usually a pretty quiet time... unless you are submitting something to the IFComp... But also, I've been trying reeeeaaaaallllyyyyy hard not to look at the Jam tab on itch, so not to be tempted to do a new thing. I've already put out more games this year than last year (counting the tiny ones).

The PLAN tm for September
It will essentially be very similar to August...
continue to play and review games (that front page spot is getting closer...). It gives me an opportunity for a break, and I get to think more about game design or writing, or where I could improve. And I get to give the authors some (hopefully) thoughtful words about their games.
finish the DOL-OS remaster. By mid-September, I think I could swing that. Then it will be another shelved game!
either continue a WIP or fix another semi-completed game. I might try to get La Petite Mort in proper shape and translated for the EctoComp? (I need to check if they accept translation, since it was submitted last year)
maybe try to add another block to the SugarCube Guide? I have a few ideas on what to include, but it is mainly a matter of sitting down and doing it. Though I have another template I've been toying with... maybe that might happen first.
That would be neat if I could manage that :P I need to fix the loading screens of Twine games too...
Taking the list of last month...
To-Do not require much of new stuff:
translate Escape Goncharov! into French. ✅
fix the bugs in EDOC + overall the French version to match
fix the bugs of TRNT + find a way to add the missing pieces (mayyyybe translate into French?)
fix the formatting of DOL-OS + translate into English ✅ (ongoing)
update LPM with the missing content + translate into English
The rest of the To-Do pile:
Finish The Rye in the Dark City (and maybe translate?)
Finish P-Rix - Space Trucker (and try to translate)
Finish Exquisite Cadaver (translation unlikely, current gameplay too complex to port for French)
Add a chapter to CRWL + fix the blog
Re-working TTTT to its originally planned state (lol, not likety)
Re-working SPS Iron Hammer (samesies)
Coding TTATEH (MelS dependent)
Emptying my inboxes
(I am pretty sure the focus for the rest of the year will be to finish the first list. With the addition maybe of a small jam entry or two.)

Dying to know what that Chinese fic actually said? Machine translation came out with gibberish?
Worry no more!
For 10 USD for every 1000 Chinese characters, I will replace the correct names and subjects of the sentences for you! (The machine-translated text will otherwise be unedited.)
For 35 USD for every 1000 Chinese characters (round up to the closest 1000), I would polish up the translation for you!
Comic translation is 5 USD per page for a text file;
Translations are private and not redistributable, except for translated works of the 35 USD tier, which can be posted with translation polishing credits if permission was obtained from the original writer/artist.
I hope to make some money (about 250 USD) to go to the Shanghai comic con (CP30) in December, which is the biggest event for fan-artists and fanfiction writers in China. The money will be used for transportation, the entrance ticket and (if there is extra) the printing of free doujinshi to be shared with other writers and artiest.
I am more familiar with the lexicons and inside jokes of the Naruto fandom but I will try my best with other fandoms.
Read more for examples and terms.

The incident happened like this; during the National Day Holidays, I happened to have off days together with a friend, so we agreed to hang out together. Since it was a holiday, all tourist attractions were crowded. Since we did not want to join the crowd, we planned together and drove to a remote mountain, intending to experience a cookout time.

In addition, there is also a different heart, and the enemy family's patriarch has an ambiguous relationship.

(all from the not-american ask game bc i love playing ask games w people! no pressure ofc :) )

19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem?
20. which sport is The Sport in your country?
24. what other nation is joked about most often in your country?
27. favourite national celebrity?
i picked the ones i'd have the most fun answering, so i hope you have fun w these!!! :D
thank you so much for asking!! and sorry it took a while :) (i had to edit this to add a cut because boy did it get long. brace for some history bullshit)
3. does your country have access to sea?
unfortunately, it doesn't, so we usually travel to maritime countries (especially croatia, bulgaria...) in summer. however, we have dams, reservoirs and lakes that we often choose instead of the sea!
5. favourite song in your native language?
i am not THAT involved in our music scene, but strmá voda by billy barman is pretty cool, za sklom (from the kam ideme album though!!) by korben dallas too. and i have a deep history with the whole na skle maľované (originally na szkle malowane in polish, "painted on the glass") musical. do batôžka by katka knechtová shaped my childhood as well AND i know it basically said one song so i'll stop now, i promise.
6. most hated song in your native language?
our rap is... not my favourite thing. it sounds silly to me, to be honest, so most rap songs. and the radio ones are annoying too. hi to pomaranče z kuby, if i hear you one more time i'm gonna cry <3
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?
okay, this is not be based on their meaning, but the way it feels to pronounce them-
krémový (creamy), žblnkať (to make the plopping sound of water (?)), holubienka (help how do i translate the ✨vibe✨ of this,, it's an outdated pet name, basically. an old-sounding diminutive for dove)
but the one i use the most is a non-literary word: ✨oné✨, aka "that thing", aka a word you use for everything you forgot the word for.
10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language?
love me some good do piče (stolen from my friend @hyperobsession because he has a way with words that i don't: "the meaning is basically the vulgar designation of vagina"). jebať (to fuck) is fun too, use some prefixes and you get some brand new swearwords with different meanings. BUT i also love some outdated ones like papľuh, ej ci bisťu, kulifaj... the list goes on.
19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem?
the anthem slaps, mainly historically speaking (reverse pink floyd basically: hey, kids, leave our teacher alone), nowadays there are no lighting bolts to wake us up however, and our flag...
listen. i have Opinions about our flag. not about the similarity with the russian one (correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the russian tricolor is basically a modification of the dutch one, while ours was a red-white bicolor at first and then adopted a blue stripe to symbolize our croatian "brother nation" in austria-hungary and our "patrons" russians in 1848, making the slavic tricolor, modeled after the russians? and we basically had to add the emblem as to not clash with the russian flag after the dissolution of the soviet union. anyway. the revolutionary year of 1848 will forever haunt me). where my amusement peaks (no pun intended), however, is the said emblem. noticed it's basically the right (left for the heraldists out there) part of the hungarian coat of arms?
yada yada the double cross from cyril and methodius, the red background because ✨emblems✨, everything is basically connected to the hungarians through austria-hungary... that's where the triple peak, my favourite part, comes in. it symbolizes the three mountains of matra, tatra and fatra, formerly on the hungarian soil, right? and it had many colours over the years, ending with green, until slovaks said nah, fuck this, we don't like it here in austria-hungary, yoinked the emblem (but said fuck your crown too and, of course, changed the colours, don't let the teacher know i let you copy my homework, slovakia) and eventually took tatra and fatra too. the funny thing (to me) is that the blue triple peak feels like a fuck you, we took your mountains to hungarians now.
(no offense to hungary, of course. i'm part hungarian. it just feels funny)
also- god, who let me speak. sorry for the history lesson. maybe it's not even correct. don't quote me on this info.
20. which sport is The Sport in your country?
i guess most kids play football (soccer) in their childhood, but the most promoted one during championships might be hockey...? not sure, actually. i wouldn't consider us a big sports nation, but it might be because i'm not involved in the scene (except for hockey, kinda).
24. what other nation is joked about most often in your country?
the hungarians and the czechs, for sure. i won't get into why it's like that because peace and love blah blah blah. but it's definitely them. also the poles, but not the whole nation i think, mostly just the language.
27. favourite national celebrity?
eh- good question? i have some actors that i like to see in theatre/tv, but apart from their roles, i know nothing about them, so... i don't think i have one.
(i googled "slovak celebrities". i didn't know those people existed. i'll leave it at this)
thank you again for this ask, i did have a lot of fun!! especially with the history part, which i'm, again, sorry for :D (but not really. only like. half sorry)
