Defiant Leader x Confident Villain: Part 4
Read Part one here
Continued from this part here
Honestly I have found so many good series parts in my drafts that just needs cleaning up with a light edit and boom, more content- it's great!
I am just ignoring my Christmas assignments and exams because who needs a degree, am I right? Enjoy!
TW: intimate whumper (ish), torture(light) and broken bones
*~*~*~*~*
Leader woke up to a finger in their cheek. They batted it away lazily, in theory.
In reality, their arms felt too stiff to move, groaning for Second to give them just five more minutes. Theyâd had a long fucking day, and their body was exhausted, not even accounting for the mental exertion it took to balance Villain as an enemy and not a member of their team anymore after they took them and strung them upâ
Leaderâs eyes shot open, but they didnât meet Villainâs smiling face. Instead, they were met with two owlish eyes the colour of the Dead Sea, as if Leader could see through them.
Leader knew those eyes. Knew them too fucking well.
Leader evened their expression as much as they could, while Supervillainâs lips broke into an amused smile.
âSo, youâre Villainâs old mentor,â Supervillain hummed, going to poke Leader in the cheek again. They were too close. Far too close to Leaderâs face for comfort. Leader was tucked up against the wall, hands in the same heavy manacles Villain left them with as they drifted to a deep sleep. Their legs had moved, one bent slightly while the other was straight, and in the small bend of Leaderâs leg was Supervillainâs foot.
Too close.
Leader tilted their head to the side, voice deadpan as they replied: âso youâre Villainâs new babysitter.â
âVillain said you were funny.â
âThatâs funny, Villain never mentioned you,â Leader replied coolly, eyes never leaving Supervillainâs too-clear blue ones. âMustnât take it personally, maybe you just donât make much of an impression.â
âWoke you all the same.â
âYes, you did,â Leader said, then made a shooing motion with their fingers. âNow that you mention it, it was a very nice sleep, and I would like to get back to it now.â
Supervillain searched Leaderâs eyes for something, then let out a soft hmph. âI have a better idea, Leader.â
Before Leader could protest a hand was in their shirt and in one fluid motion, Supervillain dragged Leader to their feet with such force Leaderâs eyes blew wide, they werenât touching the ground for a minute before their bare feet mercifully touched the floor again. Leader had a panicked grip on Supervillainâs arm holding them to the wall and only then did they notice the slight size difference.
Supervillain was tall, a good head taller than Leader, who wasnât considered short by any means. Thatâs not where the differences stopped; where Leader was all lean muscle and agility, Supervillain filled their broad shoulders with strong, defined muscles that lay under his casual shirt and pungent leather jacket. Leader could make them out even when he wasnât tensed and that annoyed more than scared them.
Leader had met Supervillain before, obviously, but this close? With this height difference? This disadvantage Villain had left them with, with no gear, no boots, no weapons. Leader didnât like their odds. It was too new. Jarringly new and it sent a cold shiver down Leaderâs spine, their mind racing on ways they could adapt to their sudden enforced weakness around their wrists and in their bare feet.
When they met on the field they were somewhat even. Supervillain was strong, stronger than Leader, but Leader made up for it with their speed. They danced in and out of one-punch-knockouts Supervillain had thrown at them before, they could do it againâŚ
But that was in their combat gear, with their blades by their sides. That was with their boots on and their team at their back, and that was without heavy iron manacles locking their hands together.
Like this? Leader was too exposed, too weak, and they were just staring at Supervillain who could kill them without breaking a sweat right now, hiding all this panic behind an impassive expression, but they couldnât hide that wide eyed surprise.
Supervillain had seen.
Supervillain saw Leaderâs eyelids fly open in shock, so different from the half-lidded indifference Leader was trying to show off. Supervillain noticed the smallest thing, and maybe that was what was scaring Leader more than their disadvantage.
âWhat?â Leader asked, voice thankfully, mercifully even, âwas your better idea making out or? This is very intimate Supervillain, honestly? Iâm flattered. Kind of enemies to lovers scenarioââ
All Supervillain had to do was curl their fingers into Leaderâs shirt, knuckles resting painfully on Leaderâs ribs and push Leader against the wall more. Pinned between a solid surface and Supervillainâs unforgiving grip, Leader didnât know which would crack first, the wall or Leaderâs ribs. Leader bent a knee and pressed the sole of their bare foot against the wall for leverage.
âMmm,â Leader ground out, trying and failing to alleviate the pressure. âKinky, donât worry, kinda into it.â
Supervillain laughed. âYou donât shut up, do you?â
âNot unless you gag me, Daââ Supervillain let go of Leader then and Leader smiled. All doubt melting away as they pressed the sole of the foot into the solid surface, muscles tensed and at the ready.
Idiot.
Leader pushed off the wall with their foot, springing towards Supervillain, swinging their iron manacle clad hands up at Supervillainâs jaw. They missed the jaw and hit Supervillainâs nose instead and Supervillain fell back a step, letting out a startled cry, hands going to their nose in shock. Leader watched with a grin as blood trailed through the cracks in their hands and dribbled down their chin, staining their stupid shirt.
Their eyes would be blurry now, an advantage Leader needed. Leader shot their foot out, kicking Supervillainâs knee, then thigh, then ankle until they were wobbling, almost down.
One more hit.
Leader threw their hands up again as Supervillainâs eyes locked on Leaderâs and Leader knew they made a mistake.
Clear blue eyes were the last thing Leader saw before the wind was knocked out of them and they were gasping for breath, Supervillainâs hand wrapped around Leaderâs throat pinning them back against the wall. Leader thought they broke a rib with the impact, but they couldnât think now, they were too busy panicking. They needed to break free.
They kicked out at Supervillain, trying to hit them anywhere until Supervillain stepped closer, making Leaderâs legs useless, pinning Leaderâs legs with their own and the wall, and the panic seized Leaderâs chest. They were like a fish out of water, gasping on nothing. Thatâs when Leader brought their manacled hands down on Supervillain.
Loosen the hold for a second.
Or thatâs what they intended to do.
At the last second Supervillain caught Leaderâs wrist just below the cuff.
Fuck.
Supervillain slammed Leaderâs arms back above their head and held them there no matter how much they writhed and struggled and fuckâ black dots were encroaching on the edges of Leaderâs vision like a vignette.
They couldnât speak.
They couldnât breathe.
They couldnât fight.
They were going to die here. Supervillain was going to kill them and not break a sweat. Their struggles were weakening, and Leader knew they were gone, that Supervillain had won.
Would Villain be sad Supervillain killed them? Or is this what they wanted all along?
Leader was so fucking stupid and it got them killed.
At least Leader got a good few blows in before they died, at least they made Supervillain bleed, at least they went out fightingâŚ
Those crystal-clear blue eyes stared down at Leaderâs as they slowly lost consciousness and darkness engulfed them.
*~*~*~*~*
Villain was leaning against the wall beside the door to Leaderâs cell, arms folded, head resting against the wall. When the door opened, Villain pushed off quickly, turning to see Supervillain with dried blood caked on their upper lip and nose, staining their shirt. Villainâs face dropped.
âWhat happened?â
Supervillain smiled, showing bloody teeth. âNothing I couldnât handle. They got rowdy, so I put them down.â
âYou said youâd be gentle.â
âYou said they were weak and exhausted.â
âThey are!â Village protested.
Supervillain raised an eyebrow at Villainâs voice rising in pitch, a smile tugging at the corners of their mouth as Villain looked away, and said, âthey were. I left them hanging for three days, I was worried their shoulders would pop out of their sockets!â
âDid you have mercy on Other Villainâs Henchman when you left them hanging? Did you worry about their shoulder joints?â
âItâs different,â Villain said, eyebrows knitting together. âWe were torturing Other Villainâs Henchman for information. Leader is just a prisoner, and you have to be humane. Itâs not personal, itâsââ
âHumane?â Supervillain asked and Villain sighed, running a hand down their face. âMaybe if you were a bit less humane, Vil, it would have prevented the broken nose,â said Supervillain not unkindly, voice gentle and soothing, which just made Villain feel worse. They were going easy on Leader, and Supervillain noticed.
Supervillain placed a warm hand on Villainâs shoulder, and smiled when Villain looked up at them, eyes steeled. âIt wonât happen again.â
âOh, I know, Villain⌠I trust you,â Supervillain said, squeezing Villainâs shoulder lightly, and Villain tried hard not to blush at the words. It didnât work.
âI mean obviously Leader has to be punished. Not just for this,â Supervillain said gesturing to their nose, âbut for doing the Commissionâs dirty work for them.â
âWhat? But you forgave me,â said Villain, setting their jaw, lips stretched into a thin line.
âI did,â said Supervillain. âThe difference is you saw the corruption they wrought. Leader is still under their influence. They need to be persuaded.â
âWhy does persuasion sound a lot like punishment in this case?â Villain snapped, jutting their chin out at Supervillain who just kept that same level smile on their face. Their crystal-clear blue eyes beaming with pride down at Villain.
Supervillain stood up straighter, took their hand from Villainâs shoulder and touched their bloodied nose gently.
âYouâve done beautifully, Villain. Leader is our biggest threat to enacting meaningful change. You got them out of the way! You should be celebrating; you should be proudââ
âWhat about the commission?â Villain demanded hotly. âYou said they were the enemy!â
âThey are, Villain. Leader is but a pawn and taking them off the board will rattle the commission into making a mistake, one we can use to press our advantage.â
At Villainâs silence Supervillain sighed. âYou know firsthand how corrupt they are. If capturing Leader has rattled youââ
âIâm not rattled,â Villain said, voice a bit too defensive. Villain sighed, then gestured to Supervillainâs face. âGo⌠go get that cleaned up, youâre bleeding all over the place.â
âAre you okay?â
âYes,â Villain lied easily, âyes Iâm fine, Iâm just tired.â
âOkay. Maybe get some rest, Villain.â
âYeah, I will.â
Supervillain nodded, then walked to the end of the hall, towards the stairs out of the basement. Villain waited until they heard the sound of the heavy door shutting before they leaned against the wall and let out a long-laboured breath.
This was all they needed.
Then they opened the door to Leaderâs cell and walked in, letting it close behind them.
Supervillain watched from the shadows of the stairs, a frown finding its way onto their face. Then they turned and actually left to fix their nose.
*~*~*~*~*
When Leader woke up again, they gasped awake, desperate to get some air into their lungs as the hand on their throatâ Leader blinked, and it was the biggest mistake they ever made. A thundering headache followed, and they nearly whimpered at the pain but kept silent as they took in the new room around them.
At least they were sitting down this time and didnât have any less articles of clothes on than they did before which was a plus, although their feet were starting to feel the cold. This time Leader woke in a chair, a comfortable enough chair, their arms resting on the arms rest were tied down with reinforced leather straps that brokered no movement when Leader tried to yank their hands free. All it did was tighten the leather around Leaderâs fists, crinkling like rubber, but they couldnât complain. The leather was far more comfortable than the manacles, Leader was getting first class treatment as far as the last few days were concerned.
They longed to stretch their limbs, but as feeling slowly came back to their body they realised they couldnât move their legs either, strapped to the legs of the chair in what felt like the same strong leather as their wrists. They let out a soft sigh and pulled at their restraints just because.
They were tired.
Exhausted.
Their head was fucking pounding because of Supervillain and his stupid need to be tall and strong and authoritative. He could have at least been kind about the strangle hold, like, oh Iâm sorry Leader, hereâs some paracetamol for that headache youâll wake up with.
Leader just wanted to go home, be with their team. They should have never pursued Villain; in hindsight they should have stayed with their team and then none of this would happen.
They would have stayed on mission and not abandoned their target to pursue an obvious trap, Villain knew they would follow though, Villain wanted them to, counted on it. They wanted to show off their new reinforcements and show Leader, they didnât need them and their team anymore. They wanted to show Leader who was stronger, and Leaderâs ego made them follow.
Stupid.
There wasnât much room for any other thoughts after that.
From behind them Leader heard movement and then they saw the hammer coming down hard, a merciless swing, straight on the back of Leaderâs right hand. Leader screamed as they felt, no heard, every bone in their hand shatter. They struggled in the comfortable chair, trying to alleviate some of the pain, to get away from the aftershocks of pain as Leader tried to move their fingers.
âDo I have your attention, Leader?â
Leader howled when Supervillain drive the hammer down harder on the back of Leaderâs hand, rubbing against broken and bruised bones. âYes! YES! Just stop!â
The hammer lifted after Leader found their words and their sigh of relief ricocheted through their entire body, adrenaline pumping in their blood. They sucked in a sharp breath when Supervillain came to stand in front of them, glaring angrily up through pain blinded eyes. Their chest rising and falling like a rabbitâs that was suddenly cornered by a dog.
âGood,â Supervillain said with a smile and dropped the hammer unceremoniously on the floor. Leader flinched when it clanged against the concrete floor. Their breath still struggling to fill the hole in their lungs from the shock.
âVillain asked me to go easy on you,â said Supervillain. Leaderâs heartbeat skipped at that. Villain still cared. Just not enough to get you out of here, a nasty voice in the back of Leaderâs head hissed. âThey think youâre just blindly following the commissionâs orders, that you need to be persuaded to see the light like they did.â
âYeah?â Leader laughed, the laugh manic, off and wrong. âAnd follow you, is it? Iâm devoted to one dogma, Supervillain, I canât stomach two, Iâll have to pass.â
âWhy do you follow the Hero Commissionâs orders, Leader? Hmm?â
âWhy donât you ask Villain?â
âI did.â
âAnd?â
âVillain only followed you,â Supervillain said, delighting at the pain that must have showed on Leaderâs face. âThey never believed the commissionâs bullshit, or so they say.â
âBut they believe your bullshit, is that it?â
âI am just one man,â Supervillain said with a smile, spreading their hands wide. âIneffectual. What could I do thatâs so bad?â
âOh, I donât know, using a hammer as a wakeup call comes to mind,â Leader grouched, relaxing back against the chair. âAside from that do you want the list categorically from worst to least bad, or chronologically, either way itâs a long time weâre going to be chatting.â
âOh Leader, donât worry. We have time,â Supervillain purred, walking over to Leaderâs chair. Leader couldnât even back away, couldnât flinch, couldnât do anything with how fucking tightly they were tied down and it scared them.
Scared them how easy it would be for Supervillain to kill them then and there.
Tied up, defenceless, immobile.
The fear must have shown in their eyes because Supervillain let out a soft laugh when their legs touched Leaderâs knees.
âYouâre not so brave like this, are you? Did I scare you earlier Leader? Did you think I was going to strangle you to death? Are you afraid Iâll do it again?â Supervillain reached a hand over and Leader recoiled, trying to avoid it getting anywhere near their neck, but Supervillainâs hand pressed against Leaderâs throat all the same and the fear gripped them like a vultureâs talons.
The courage bubbled up Leaderâs throat and they bit out, âyeah? Letâs see how brave you are stripped of your gear and tied up in enemy territory.â
âI could you know. It would be so easy,â Supervillain said with a soft hum, squeezing slightly.
Leaderâs eyes turned to stone, a grave challenge in them, the kind Leader would wager their life against. Leader leaned forward slightly, staring directly into Supervillainâs stupid smiling face, and said: âthen do it and get it over with. Kill me and spare me the torture of having to listen to you talk.â
Supervillain smiled a handsome smile.
Their smile didnât waver as they drew their fist up and slammed it down hard on Leaderâs broken hand. Leader howled, throwing their body forward on instinct, trying to protect themselves but all they did was drive themselves straight into Supervillainâs strangling hold and Leader gasped in pain, tears streaming down their face as Supervillain shoved them by their neck to the back of the chair.
Leader choked on nothing, sucking in startled air which got caught on their strangled cries of pain in their throat. Their body fighting against the restraints and Supervillainâs hold trying to fight, trying to escape. Their body hadnât gotten the message that struggling was futile yet.
âHmm,â Supervillain hummed. âI think youâre right Leader. I much prefer the sounds of your screams over my voice.â
âYou fucââ Leader screamed again as Supervillain drove the palm of their hand into the back of Leaderâs, kneading the shattered bones, choking on their screams, clamping their teeth down on their cheek to soften them to more of a pained hum.
âI can make good on that gag Leader,â Supervillain promised, moving their fingers up to pinch Leaderâs cheeks and force their mouth into an O shape. Leader swallowed, feeling Supervillainâs hand bobbing with their throat. âThat way I still get your delightful screams and cries of help.â
Leader huffed out a breath, the pain finally receding in their brain enough for them to think.
 âGrapefruit.â
Supervillain blinked, then frowned, then raised their eyebrows and tightened their hold ever so slightly.
âWhat?â
âGrapefruit,â Leader said again, voice raw, almost breathless and Supervillain let their grip loosen a little.
âHave you lost it already, Leader?â Supervillain asked and Leader shook their head as best as they could.
âThen whatâs Grapefruit?â
Leader swallowed hard and rasped: âItâs a citrus fruitââ
âI know what grapefruit is,â Supervillain huffed, âI donât know why you keep repeating it.â
Leader looked up through their tear-soaked lashes, all innocence and doe eyed charm, and said with a straight face: âmy safe word is grapefruit.â
Supervillain stood up straighter and let go of Leaderâs throat and Leader could breathe easy for the second of relief that came with it. Then Supervillain slammed down their hand on Leaderâs hand and Leader struggled and howled and screamed and cried, âoW! JEESâ motherFUCKER! GRAPEFRUIT! GRAPEFRâ FUCK!â
âMaybe I hurt the wrong part of you, Leader. Maybe I should have broken your jaw, then maybe you would shut up!â Supervillain hissed.
âMaybeâŚ.â Leader ground out, a shit eating grin on their face despite the pain, despite their situation, despite everything that was thrown at them in the last week. âMaybe youâre going to have to kill me to stop me, Supervillain. Do it right now, say it was an accident and maybe, maybe Villainâ argh! Maybe Villain forgives you. Iâm irritating, an honest mistake, I pushed you too farâŚâ
Supervillain glared down at Leader now, hands completely off Leader, balling into meaty fists at their sides, nostrils flaring in anger. Leader took that as their cue to continue with their exhausted throat.
âBut the longer you keep me alive, the longer I have with Villain? The less sleep youâre gonna get because I found Villain, I made them who they are today, and youâre scared. You are terrified of me, thatâs why you tied me down so tight. Thatâs why Villain isnât here right now. Youâre in deep, and you donât know how to get out. Kill me, you risk alienating Villain forever, keep me alive? Me and Villain have more chats about the good old days, and you still lose them. Either way youâre fucked, but I know which one Iâd choose, Supervillain. Take your hammer to my temple and be done with it.â
Supervillain stilled, eyes widening slightly in a dim realisation, and then, to Leaderâs chagrin, Supervillain smiled. Smug and superior and oh so knowing, and Leader frowned because they didnât know what they had to be so happy about.
âOh Leader,â Supervillain sighed. They patted Leaderâs head and let out a small, startled laugh. âLeader, Leader, Leader,â they said and as quick as they arrived, they left, and Leader tried to turn in their seat to see what they were doing but they couldnât. All they could do was stare forward and hear Supervillainâs footsteps getting further and further away.
âWhat?!â Leader yelled, twisting and turning and getting nowhere except aggravating their hand and they cursed and sat staring at the wall. They flinched when they heard a door open and close, and Leader was left alone.
That thought scared them more than anything Supervillain did.

Weirdly specific fanfic tropes in the Batman Fandom that I love
Cuddle Pollen: Ivyâs pollen but it just makes you crave human contact to the point itâs painful
People avoiding Bruce Wayne adopting them: sometimes the adoptee is a canon bat child other times itâs LadyBug or Spider-Man. Bruce absolutely dragging Batman through the mud to the press for no apparent reason: You would think such a specific prompt could not possibly have that many fics. You would be wrong. The Justice League finding out Bruce has 10+ children and being shook: It always goes one of two ways, either one of his kids was hiding under his cape and outs him or they all show up when Bruce inevitably needs help Tim destroying another company out of pure petty spite: Idk why it's always him, but it is. The reason can vary but it's typically in defense of another family member
Actual Ray of Sunshine Robin!Jason seeing the neglected little gremlin that is 9 yrs old Tim Drake and deciding to keep him: itâs always so funny. 90% of the time itâs just Jason telling Bruce âWeâre keeping himâ and Bruce just being like âokâ
Damian trying to fight Santa Clause: I donât know when exactly we as a fandom decided that not only did Damian believe in/know about Santa, but that he is ready to fight him at any given moment but I hope it never stops
#batfam#ao3#fanfiction#fanfic tropes#some of these are old#but I Remeber when they were popular and it was great#this is my opinion#Edit: I KNOW SANTAâS REAL IN DC#edit: I meant that in the fics santaâs fake so Damian just believing it is really funny#he also just has no reason to really know about it on account santa can deliver gifts without being seen#and the al ghuls sure didn't tell him

Another favourite angst trope: When a character is so used to being treated badly that they don't see anything wrong with it and talk and think about it very matter-of-factly
Until they meet the other characters and see how HORRIFIED they are every time they reveal another detail from their past
#my posts#tropes#this trope is also great when paired with the 'not used to freedom' trope#like a character very matter-of-factly asking if they're allowed to eat lunch because they've already eaten breakfast#and they werent previously allowed regular meals#but didnt realise that that wasnt normal#whump#ive made a few 'favourite angst' trope posts#should i make this a series

Y'all, I love Tim being excluded from the Bat family angst. This angst is my bread and butter because it's so funny (my coping mechanism is laughing leave me be).
Why is it funny?
Tim was basically excluded from his first family unit (his parents sent him away to boarding school to be a family together, and then, after his mom died, his dad got a new wife pretty quickly). After the initial emotional neglect, he goes out to find himself a family. He works damn hard putting that family back together and earning himself a spot. Lo and behold, he gets excluded from that family too.
That's like 3 family units he gets booted from. His other found family unit, YJ, also gets murdered (or joins a cult) around the same time his dad dies. Tim should, realistically, have serious attachment issues. Poor guy :(
#dc comics#dc universe#tim drake#tim drake angst#would this be called a tim trope?#if he bonds with jason and steph as the outliers to the bat clan that's pretty cool#though the angst of bats working really hard to bond with jason while neglecting tim is also great

We all agree that Rin's his father's son in the complete opposite way Yukio's his mother's son, right?
Rin is what Satan could have become if he have had the chance of growing slowly, in an environment of love and encouraging to be kind with other.
And Yukio is what Yuri could have become if she haven't had a family that encouraged her to be kind with demons, and had been raised to be a soldier rather than a free spirit kind of kid. (Not that I think Yukio was raised to just be a soldier, but he wasn't exactly raised to be compassionate with demons).
They're a mirror of their parents, where they got the looks, they got the other's traits to compensate.
Rin was (and still is) reckless, he was impulsive, hotheaded, he didn't stop to think of the consequences of his actions before doing them. He is kind, and a born protector, he opens his arms for everyone (though knows where to trace a line), he is keen to care for others, and do his best to provide.
Yukio was envious, too prideful sometimes, tended to himself and had a hard time accepting help, even more looking for help himself, he has a narrow vision of things. He's willing to sacrifice himself for his brother, and for the world, he tries to protect everyone, to know everything, he's an amazing learner and quick to think in logical solutions, tracing plans and go with them.
#i adore them both#just to be clear#rin okumura#yukio okumura#okumura twins#aoex#ao no exorcist#blue exorcist#satan blue exorcist#rinka blue exorcist#yuri egin#my point was a bit different at first#but while i was about to start writing this i remembered how satan basically adopted every demon under the sun when he escaped asylum#and my brain was like â... rin??????â#and so this is my point now#kazue really did the âkid who looks like one parent but is emotionally the otherâ trope#and she did great#also the âthey have a bit of both actually!â

ok so I think I might just be really sad about all the Doctor Momentsâ˘ď¸ weâre not going to get with 15? you know, with a new doctor there are all these Things you get: running around in the old outfit, the wooziness of the post-regen period, the first âI am the Doctorâ, the first time they see their new tardisâŚâŚ and here it was all. david tennant? Iâm not even going to go back on the 13âs clothes situation bc everything has already been said but 15âs first moments having to do with comforting 14? 15âs first âI am the Doctorâ moment being in response to 14âs? showing 14âs reaction to the new tardis instead of 15? idk man. feels bad.

in which Jason helped raise Damian while in the League but no one knows. Damian never mentioned it because he was told that it was important to keep it a secret when he first was sent to Gotham because Jason was âundercoverâ and later on both are way too emotionally constipated to admit to their father/son-ish relationship
but itâs also still obvious thereâs something there after the family reconciles because Damian, without even realizing heâs doing it, tends to orbit around Jason when heâs around and seek him out for approval/confort/help/whatever. Jason too is unusually mindful of Damian.
but no one truly realizes whatâs going on between them because honestly, without evidence, coming to the conclusion that Talia had Bruceâs dead teenage son raise Bruceâs infant son while she was training both of them to become assassins is incredibly surreal. and mostly everyone just avoids the subject of what happened with Jason between him dying and him coming back to Gotham
(bonus point if Damian still has a parental relationship with Bruce and Dick but Jason still is his number one parent and remains undefeated despite literally all of his other parental figures efforts to have a better relationship with him)
#the fics with that trope are either heart wrenching angst or tooth rotting fluff. no in between#jason todd being a parent is also just. so great#heâs a caring boy and i wonât have any of you slander his name#jason todd headcanon#batfamily headcanons#damian wayne headcanon#batman#talia al ghul#bruce wayne#dick grayson#jason todd and damian wayne#the timing is too good for them not to have known each other in the league#and to not acknowledge that takes away so much of that potential depth from their relationship

Too Hard
Woop part 2 of the trip inside Jamil's head. Part 1 here.
The next time Jamil caught sight of you on campus, his first instinct was to turn around on his heel.
What a stupid thought to have because of you.
Besides, that would only make him more conspicuous, not less.
So, when your eyes met his, Jamil gave you a short nod in greeting. He wouldâve left it at that and kept on his way, had you not walked up to him.
âHi Jamil! Howâs it going?â you said with that impossibly disarming smile of yours.
Why was it so difficult to look at you like he normally would? You had no right to make him feel so stiff, so unnatural.
On autopilot, Jamil exchanged a few pleasantries with you - those lessons from his parents had been instilled too deep in him for him to falter too badly in a simple exchange such as this. Still, Jamil quickly excused himself by telling you he still had to find Kalim before his next class.
Jamil didnât miss the way your smile faltered. Had you hoped to get something out of him?
âOh, okay. Iâll see you two later, then.â
Something about that irked him, though Jamil did not allow himself to dwell on it further.
His heart really had no business still racing as it did when he walked away, unaware of the frown on his face.
Just act normal. Thatâs all he needed to do.
After all, he had no time for dwelling in silly fancies.
If Jamil had been acutely aware of you before, it only seemed to worsen now that he was making a conscious effort to not act any differently with you. In fact, the harder he tried to keep you out, the more you invaded his thoughts, unsettling him.
The most innocuous words from you looped in his mind, and even the simplest actions caught his eye. For goodness's sake, heâd found himself staring at you while you were queueing up in the cafeteria the other day, not even doing anything other than standing around and looking bored!
For once, Jamil found himself grateful for all his duties. At least they provided him with something else to occupy himself with.
After all, if he was busy enough, it was difficult to think about those bright eyes of yours, your sweet laugh, or the way you bit your lip while thinking.
Still, sometimes it felt like no matter which way he turned, you were there, ready to throw him off-kilter. Not like it was his fault that often the most convenient route to class intersected with your daily routines. Or that your face seemed to jump out from any crowd, catching his attention.
Which certainly did not help his basketball performance. Jamil certainly did not recall you having such an interest in sports before, yet suddenly you were always there, distracting him. What had changed?
Could you possibly-
Jamil scoffed to himself, forcing his thoughts back on track for the nth time that day.
He picked up the tray of food and started taking it to Kalim. After dinner, heâd need to help Kalim with his homework, there were some housewarden tasks that would need dealing with, not to mention the preparations for the next-
Jamil froze in his tracks.
The voice he heard was quiet, but it was unmistakably you.
Really, it should not have come as such a surprise to him. You had become a rather frequent visitor to Scarabia, and Kalim often invited you to stay for meals. In fact, Jamil had started planning the dormâs meal prep with your tastes and dietary restrictions in mind, just in case.
Jamil rounded the corner with strange exhilaration, his heart fluttering needlessly.
Yet, his mood evaporated when he saw you.
Why did you stop talking and look so guilty as soon as you caught sight of Jamil?
Jamil knew that look you gave to Kalim, had used it himself a thousand times. The one telling Kalim to keep quiet about something.
What could there possibly be that you would be comfortable sharing with Kalim, but not with him? That would give Kalim reason to sit so close to you, a comforting hand on your shoulder?
Jamil's mind raced with possibilities, yet could not settle for any single explanation.
Heâd have to ask Kalim about it later.
Jamil gave you a short, polite greeting, his eyes lingering on you in an attempt to read what you were hiding.
âIf Iâd known you were coming over, I wouldâve prepared something for you to eat as well,â Jamil said, already thinking about which parts of the dormâs dinner to spruce up for you.
âOh, no need, just figured Iâd pop by. Iâll get out of your hair soon enough,â you said, something sheepish about your expression.
As expected, Kalim asked you to stay and dine with them, and with just a bit more persuasion you agreed - though not before telling Jamil that he should join you too and have himself a breather.
And since Kalim agreed with you, Jamil soon found himself sharing a meal with you and Kalim. Yet, even as he sat down with the food, his mind raced.
Had you been getting particularly close to Kalim lately? But surely Jamil wouldâve noticed such a thing. Maybe someone from the dorm had been giving you trouble? But if that was the case, then surely you could let Jamil know about it, too. Unless for some reason you did not want to? But if it was something that concerned Kalim, then sooner or later it was bound to concern Jamil, too.
All the while, Kalim was talking to you about this and that, the latest topic being the animals kept on the Asim estate.
âIâve got some pictures, let me show you!â Kalim said with an excited grin.
Only, a thorough patting of his pockets and a look around confirmed that Kalimâs phone was nowhere to be seen.
Jamil pinched the bridge of his nose. Where had Kalim left it this time?
Before Jamil even had the chance to say that he would handle it, Kalim sprinted off. Jamil hesitated for a moment, automatically halfway up from his seat, before he decided that leaving a guest unattended would be a worse offense than not helping out his master.
Jamil slumped back down with a sigh, mentally tracing the path Kalim took today, trying to recall the last time he saw Kalim handle his phone.
âBreathe. Heâll manage,â you said. There was the faintest of smiles on your lips, and Jamil could not decide if it was knowing or amused. Perhaps both.
Somehow, despite his frustration, Jamilâs own lips wanted to curl up too.
âHmm. Maybe he will.â
Sure, Jamil couldâve called Kalimâs phone, to make it easier to find, but it was not that urgent, was it?
Jamil took another bite of his food, keeping an eye on you from the corner of his eye.
How was his mind so empty and so buzzing at the same time?
âYou know-â
âSo-â
You looked at each other, both just as surprised that the other had spoken up at the same time.
Even your surprised look was so-
âYou first,â Jamil said. The way you bit your lip... Jamil had to raise a cup to his lips, slowly sipping his drink.
âJust⌠Feels like itâs been quite a while since Iâve seen you be still, you know. Or exchanged more than two words with you,â you said. You were attempting a light, joking tone, yet it was quite clear there was more to it.
âYou say that like it would be unusual for me to be busy.â
He was not prepared for the way your soft sigh tugged at his heartstrings.
âNo. It is not.â
You were both quiet after, poking at your meals. Normally, Jamil wouldâve cherished such a moment of peace, yet this particular silence between you two was decidedly awkward.
Where was your usual chatter? Why werenât you looking at him like you usually did?
âIf youâre worried about me, donât. Iâm fine,â Jamil said, some softness creeping into his tone despite his best intentions.
âThat's what Kalim said too,â you said. Yet the way you looked at Jamil made it clear you were still skeptical.
Wait.
Had you clammed up earlier because it had been Jamil you had been talking about with Kalim? That Kalim had comforted you about?
The thought twisted his stomach into knots.
Eta: you can find part 3 here, part 4 here, and finally part 5 here. Hasdhfsdf the way I fought with that last scene I swear. I don't even want to know how many versions I went through, trying to figure out how to say what I wanted without rubbing it into your face or making it too veiled. The joys of trying to convey things through a limited pov. Hopefully it came out reasonably balanced in the end. Rip to all those sentences that were lovely on their own but didnât work for the whole. Hopefully I can rehome yâall one day. I do have thoughts for part 3 and part x (might be some chapters between those two as well, who knows at this point), so maybe we'll see those at some point, too. Tag list: @colliope @crystallizsch @diodellet @jamilsimpno69 @jamilvapologist @twstgo If you'd like to be tagged for future works, let me know! (Just be aware that sometimes I do also write nsfw, though you can certainly ask to be tagged only for particular kinds of works.)
#twisted wonderland#jamil viper#twisted wonderland x reader#jamil viper x reader#ner writes#jamil definitely knows how to deal with his feels#also writing this is making me wonder how aware jamil is of his inner versus outer life#like heâs very aware of how he comes across because thatâs what heâs been told to watch out for#but how well has he truly learned to understand himself and his own feelings wants etc?#(I mean as you can tell Iâm assuming not very well)#originally this went to more of a âjamil hears just the wrong part of the conversationâ route but#a) I kinda hate that trope especially when itâs dragged on beyond belief and#b) Kalim maybe doesnât want to spill anyoneâs secrets but he really is such an open book especially with Jamil so#also itâs not like jamil needs the extra help to catastrophize he already does that well enough on his own đ#tho then I went a little too far in the other direction and had to pull back#but let's just hope I didn't edit this to death by now#also also: since I seem to have a bit of a naming theme going on for this series#if I were to be the sort to go for the angst route what part would definitely be titled Too Late or something along those lines#also x3 but loved folks commenting on that part about reader being inoffensive in the first part#I certainly had fun writing that line#(and in general extra love to everyone who leaves comments on tags replies wherever always great to read those)#(and in general chat with y'all)

2 am thoughts about roommates
#small dooble at 2 am :)#I think the they were roommates trope is great because living with someone beyond the sort of intimacy of sharing a space also comes with#compromises and accomodations for each otherâs differences. small psychological changes such as internal clock and lighting and such#Iâm glad I have roommates haha though itâs a bit lonely right now since one of them is doing summer research in Wisconsin#and the other is on vacation and went home for July 4th long weekend#a bit sad that Iâm working over July 3 and 4 but I did plan it out that way for myself since thereâs not anything else to do on those days#anyways I should go sleep

Dealing with Dragons: Cimorene sketch ^_^
Been re-listening to Dealing with Dragons recently (anyone who knows me knows I will not shut up about how formative this series was for me re: many things but mostly dragons) and so I got the urge to draw Cimorene again (I sketched her like a year or so ago, but can't find it, so I thought a redesign with my new style was perfect!)
Also, my fav book reviewer (I have one of those now?? What??) Just covered the first book of the series, so if you want to check out a great reviewer AND my favorite book of all time, here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMaKkwHQQKM
Not me trying to speak into existence an Enchanted Forest Chronicles graphic novel series that I get to adapt, whatttt noooo... ^_-
