hey girl… i know nothing about Zelda but you never told me about the sword that was like. her own character???…… idk how to say it but, spill
Okay it's so great you asked this cuz it's legit the whole premise of the game I got recently for Christmas (skyward sword)
So, this is Fi
Tumblr media
She is the sword
This is her before she...merged? I think? Yeah, before she merged with the sword (I haven't finished the game and I'm tryna go spoiler free but I'm pretty sure that's the case considering she communicates with Zelda in BotW/TotK but doesn't manifest in any other game besides SS)
SS happens before ANY of the zelda games, sorta of a prequel for it all, it explains how the reincarnation of Zelda, Link and Ganondorf started
Fi was sent by the Goddess Hylia to aid the hero in his quest to fulfill his duty and destiny
I absolutely love her, if I could send more than one video of her I would, but here, have her first introduction (I was gonna show her dancing but I didn't record that one cjdjjaa), it says a,l you gotta know about her XD
She is so sassy and so lovable, I am going to be said to have to say goodbye to her eventually but I also can't wait to read fanfictions involving her cuz she got great big sis energy to fulfil ngl
Even if she's emotionless and basically just an AI, you know danm well that can be easily broken cough cough detroit become human cough cough
Anyways, I'd gladly just rant about her all day but I think I've tortured myself enough trying to make tumblr let me edit this post and it's 1:30am
I also admittedly do not know much about her yet and how she might change as a character so you'll probably see a rant from me some time soon after I finish the game lol
All I know is that all those times she's shown to be present in botw and totk is about to become a lot more emotionally demaging after this XD
(Again, could go hours explaining as to why and I'd love to...in another post, this one has been the baines of my existence already fkskak stupid tumblr)

LOZ Character Analysis/...
Hero of the Sky part 1
Tumblr media
Link was born for the expressed purpose of finishing off the evil entity Hylia and her Hero failed to defeat eons before his time. At first, neither knew the true scale of what they were getting roped into, but as the stakes rose, sacrifices had to be made. Link wasn’t at all interested in fighting someone else’s war, he just wanted to save his childhood friend.
Fate however, demanded more of him, and through the course of his adventure he came to realise that this was bigger than himself. There was a job to do and as the new hero he was the only one who could do it. Although there were many dangers and trials on the path he took, one person kept him going.
It was all for her.
A/n: This is a reupload of an oldish post which I’ve taken too long to edit. I do go pretty hard on Sky’s character and SS’s storytelling. I tried to just cover Sky’s character, but most problems I had with also related to Sun’s lack of development- since the two are meant to grow and change together- which is the fault of the story as a whole.
Any writing in italic will be my attempt to rewrite parts of SS, mostly just ideas though, not a fully formed script. Also, I have not proofread this, so expect edits.
Even if you don’t agree with what I say, I hope it’s fun to read :)
~~~
This Link had it easy compared to the rest of the chain, especially Time and Wild. Sky was low-key coddled by Fi, whereas the other two were completely screwed over by her judgement.
This boy spent his days sleeping on floating island, sleeping on a flying bird, and sleeping…everyday, all the time. He had a natural perfect bond with his incredibly amazingly rare crimson Loftwing, he was naturally the most gifted swordsman despite sleeping in class, sleeping in, frequently skipping class and whenever he was awake he’d mentally be somewhere else.
He seems to have no family and Zelda seems like his only friend (but those are just assumptions). Also he got bullied a bit, but that was because Groose was jealous of him and his relationship with Zelda (wouldn’t be surprised if the whole academy knew that tbh). So I’d argue that this guy had the most idyllic and carefree pre-adventure life of any hero.
Out of every incarnation of the hero, Sky should have been the one to get development. But instead he just sort of goes through the motions of the hero’s journey and doesn’t seem to be impacted by anything he goes through. Which worked for the other heroes who were either children with no responsibility in the first place (like Time, Wind and Hyrule) or proactive young adults with accomplishments (like Twi, Warrior and Wild), because their characters didn’t warrant an arc (they developed a bit though). However, it’s a detriment to Sky’s character because he starts out as a naturally gifted but lazy daydreaming individual and doesn’t go through any sort of development.
...Btw having his spirit ‘grow’ after those Silent Realm trials isn’t all that symbolic and definitely isn’t character development (not to say that they were bad, they were scarily fun to play through). I will stand by the notion that despite being one of the most characterised incarnations, Sky doesn’t have an arc. Nintendo were able to give Midna an incredible clear arc that was driven by her adapting and responding to the selfless acts of Twi and Dawn. Meaningless metaphors and fetch quests aren’t good enough.
The game went out of it’s way to characterize Link, giving him dialogue options, varied facial expressions and information from other characters. Which is all well and good, but it doesn’t communicate what Link thinks and feels about the quest he’s on. From memory the only things I remember is that he cares a lot about Zelda, enjoys playing his harp and watching Fi dance, doesn’t seem to like combat much and thinks Groose has ‘nice hair’:
Ok forgive the tangent but...if Groose always styled his hair that way then Link would have no reason to comment on it. Which means that it was a new style he was trying out. In that case, the line can either be read as Link complimenting Groose or sarcastically making fun of him. Given that the line wasn’t relevant to the conversation, Link probably wasn’t listening and just said it to get him to shut up and leave him alone. Then again, Groose was stroking his hair constantly, maybe Link noticed that and complimented him to assure him that the new style looked good. The former reason sounds more like Sky though.
What could motivate an idle sleepyhead with great untapped potential rise up to become a courageous hero? Is it love? Maybe the theme SS was going for was that love can motive great courageous acts and inspire people to change for the better. To the game’s credit it does a great job of exploring that theme...most notable in Groose’s arc as well as the gratitude crystal side quests.
With this idea in mind you’d expect Link to take charge, grab the reins of destiny and proactively go after Zelda- maybe even ignoring advice from Fi to chase after his friend, showing his unwavering resolve. He’d form a sort of rivalry with Impa, maybe even swinging the fact that he’s ‘the hero’ in her face to justify staying by Zelda’s side. He’s being selfish here, maybe he knows it but doesn’t understand what’s actually at stake here and so doesn’t care (I know he’s been told a bunch of exposition from everyone and their grandma- but getting too complacent/not taking his duty seriously and then messing up would be more effective at making Link shape up and improve. Especially when his life’s gone perfectly so far with little effort on). Then that mindset can blow up in his face, maybe endanger Zelda or a group of surface dwellers making him shape up as a hero, go out and kick ass. Changing for the better and selflessly dedicating himself to his role for the sake of those who can’t defend themselves from the evil he’s destined to face alone.
Except Link has little to no agency in the game. He’s either following Impa’s demands or Fi’s ‘advice’, which makes me wonder if he’s doing all the hero stuff because he wants to or only because he has to. There’s no real sense of saving the world from a devastating threat when the Skyloftians are safe from any danger high above the clouds, and the beings on the surface appear to be blissfully ignorant of what’s at stake.
Imagine how much more compelling it would’ve been to have the game open with beautiful watercolour storybook exposition about the Hylia and the war with Demise, before transitioning to Link and Zelda as children nestled in a sweet little blanket fort reading the story by lamplight (the old ‘show don’t tell’ us that they are childhood friends, and maybe they can remark on the fates of those left behind by Hylia as she formed Skyloft. Also, smol Sun and Sky). Then they make a promise to venture to the surface together when they graduate the academy, and it transitions then to them as young adults.
It can play out the same as in the game, but after Link wins he surprises Zelda with plans and packed bags ready to go to the surface, recalling their childhood dream. They then sneak off to break through the cloud barrier, maybe through some shady Ghirahim shenanigans or Zelda’s Goddess powers can unconsciously awaken and create a path for them (that would then alert Ghirahim of her presence).
Then there’s a cute montage of them exploring the surface world together. They would arrive in some part of the Faron woods, and would look at plants, marvell at the tiny birds and run after other strange wildlife. At some point they are attacked by Ghirahim, and after some fighting he overpowers Link, takes Zelda away and sends the teenager back to Skyloft. Via tornado, because that would be cool.
Link miserably tells her father what happened. Before their adventure, he had a fight with them beforehand about going to the surface, so here he really chews Link out for losing his daughter, throwing everything he said days ago back in his face. Everyone on Skyloft hears what happened and they are all now on edge because they think something bad is going to happen. Meanwhile Link is a mess, regretting what he did and wishing things played out differently. Then Fi joins the plot and the quest begins.
Now there are personal stakes, Link is more of an active character and he has a more personal vendetta against Ghirahim- who I think was meant to be like a rival type antagonist. There’s also more of a sense of urgency with this version, and some redemption and knight’s honour to be restored too. Plus it makes the surface world seem more dangerous, foreign and hostile from Link’s pov.
But back to reality, the nightmare itself in game was kind of pointless. After all Link freaking ignored it! He didn’t act on it at all, he wasn’t anxious about it in any meaningful way during the ceremony and he didn’t even mention it to Zelda. It was just business as usual for him, until destiny smacked him and his bird out of the firmament.
The night following Zelda’s disappearance, Fi appears in Link’s room and leads him to the Goddess Sword, thus starting his journey. And can I point out the ludonarrative dissonance going on in this beginning section. Link and the player are supposed to be laser focused on getting to Zelda, but since the game is all about exploration it also wants the player to slow down and look around. But that actively undermines Link’s drive to reach Zelda and makes it seem like he isn’t taking his role seriously. I would say that this reflects Link’s fascination with the surface...but Zelda was the one who wanted to explore the surface. That was her dream not his! It wasn’t established that Link felt about it just as strongly as her.
Also why are we never shown how Impa meets Zelda? Heck, why aren’t we given more scenes of Zelda’s journey in general when she’s the deuteragonist? It makes sense that she’d drop her want to explore the surface in order to focus on her new duties. She was characterised as more responsible and active than Link, so her taking it seriously from day one and encouraging Link to do the same also makes sense. But how did she initially react to learning that she was the ‘spirit maiden’? When Link finally gets to her, she’s already dolled up in her Goddess drip, harp in tow and ready to do whatever Impa tells her. But why?! And why is she going along with Impa and not insisting that she and Link work together?
The game doesn’t address it and I’m not going to bother coming up with reasons because there was no real reason in the first place why they had to be separated. Everything about her character told me that she would want to work with Link at her side, as childhood friends they would have unyielding faith in each other, yet this strong willed girl let a stranger control her every move.
That aside, can I also mention how manufactured the conflict is in the game? Every now and then the Imprisoned shows up to wreak havoc…but, that thing is never really a threat. To be honest, there’s no collateral damage and they fight it so many times it basically becomes a minor annoyance…almost routine. There’s Ghirahim sure, but Link is able to beat him three times, which begs the question: why does Link let Ghirahim live after each encounter? He is the one Zelda and Impa are running from and if he dies then Demise can’t be resurrected. It’s clear he hates him and knows he’s the biggest threat, so what’s stopping Link from killing him?
It makes sense with the evil legged avocado, I guess, because each time it’s defeated Link just puts a magical band aid on its seal. I can understand him escaping once, but three times? Although I’d forgive him if he didn’t take Ghirahim seriously as a threat (even though his facial expressions in game prove otherwise), after all it’s not like Zelda is ever in any real danger at any point in the game. She’s either being chaperoned by Impa or asleep encased in amber.
Hey, here’s another question: does Link actually want to be doing all this?
The obvious answer would be yes; with the other heroes this is something you don’t even think to question, at least a few dungeons in. But like I said earlier, Sky is different. Despite being almost an adult he’s still complacent and a daydreamer coasting through life on natural talent alone, (since he doesn’t go through any development I’ll assume he stays that way), and during his quest he has the servant of the Goddess dictating his every move. So it’s not like he could opt out, but he’s always told exactly where to go and what to do, with nothing going wrong.
Would someone like that willingly put themselves through all this because they genuinely want to or just go along with it because they’re given everything they need to succeed?
Does he even like adventuring? How invested is he in helping people? Does he disagree with Hylia’s decision to flee into the sky, having seen the precarious state of the surface (at least that should be the case, and following my lore it is. But, the in game npcs on the surface are straight vibing despite the fact that a primal evil is trying to resurrect itself and destroy them all) without the Goddess’ protection? Does he feel guilty perhaps? Does he feel a need to protect the surface? Does he value the tribes on the surface as much as the people on Skyloft? Does he maybe resent Zelda for his circumstance, as Hylia’s incarnation/replacement?
My interpretation is that he realises at some point that he actually doesn’t actually like adventuring and travelling (hence the frequent breaks headcanon and keeping everyone on Skyloft posted). He likes some aspects of it like seeing new sights, catching bugs, camping and gathering food/materials, but he finds long drawn out enemy camp battles exhausting, dungeons aren’t really his cup of tea (save for the Cistern and the pirate ship because they were amazing), he hates constantly needing to fight the evil avocado and more than anything despises Ghirahim’s numerous encounters- he doesn’t kill him...because he can’t, incompetence I guess.
He does disagree with Hylia’s decision to leave the surface and he does feel awful that the other races were left to fend for themselves, but he doesn’t resent Zelda for it at all. Because it has nothing to do with her, she ain’t Hylia.
Speaking of, Zelda immediately being ok and accepting of the whole Goddess thing with no push back is a waste of potentiel. It could have been a huge paradigm shift for her, but nothing comes of it. Unless it was an act so that Link wouldn’t worry about her...but they’re childhood friends! Even if that was the case Link would’ve seen through it immediately, leading me to believe that her reaction was genuine. When I first watched a playthrough of SS, I thought she was possessed by Hylia and that’s why she was so calm.
It’s a shame because there’s some really compelling stuff that SS’s story doesn’t want to delve into. The story is mainly focused on the relationship between Link and Zelda, but there’s no interesting conflict there, instead it’s just Zelda is in trouble and Link needs to save her and save the world. I’d love to have seen them grapple with Zelda’s identity as the Goddess reincarnated or lean more into Link’s reluctance to play the hero (does he maybe blame the hero before him for Demise’s return?) or talk about Hylia’s decision to abandon those on the surface.
‘Even though I am Hylia reborn, I am still my father's daughter, and your friend. I'm still your Zelda...’
That’s such a beautiful line of dialogue. It would have been nice to have seen cutscenes of Link and Zelda as children to really hammer the feels home. It would have been even more impactful if Zelda came to that realisation after some sort of internal struggle. It would have been great to see the two of them work through this together rather than constantly being separated by the plot.
I feel like Sky frequently took breaks from the quest in order to return to Skyloft, possibly justifies this with the excuse of keeping everyone posted- hence why everyone in game knows his business. He has low stamina and I’ve always seen it as just another result of his laziness. However, some in the fandom have headcanons that he has asthma (at least I think that’s the connection, please correct me if I’m wrong), which was an interpretation I hadn’t thought of before. I’m not going to go along assuming that in this post, because it undermines my gripes later on, but it is something I wanted to acknowledge.
Due to his low stamina, despite being the only one able to parkour (at least in human form, looking at you wolfie. In his case though wouldn’t it be...barkour?), he’s the least athletic. Being the worst at long distance running, swimming and climbing- long distance anything really. That being said, he can do some awesome parkour moves, such that during short term encounters he’s reliably fast and agile.
He is the book-smartest in all the chain, being the only one with a confirmed formal education (funny how the Link at the furthest point back in history is the most educated). I like to think he’s talented at math, with logic and numbers being easy for him to understand and use for problem solving. With geometry being his favourite topic.
However, he doesn’t pay much attention to his surroundings. The opposite of Time (veteran), Warrior (soldier boy), Twilight (nature boy), Legend (veteran) and Wild (survivalist) who are always 100% aware of their surroundings at all times.
It would be funny if he gets motion sick on boats, because it would’ve made the WW style small boating section in the Lanayru Desert a nightmare for him. And the rollercoaster section(s) too I’d imagine. I wonder what Fi would think seeing the legendary hero throw up breakfast while he sped around in the minecart.
...she’d probably just tell him to replace his batteries or something.
Where Twilight’s an elven Disney Princess, I think Sky wants to be as far away from cuddly animals as possible. Which is wonderfully illustrated whenever he holds Remlits. He always has them at arm’s-length and is even willing to yeet them off the island (it’s more of a gameplay thing, but the fact that the player even has the choice is quite interesting).
He has a cute habit of wildly gesturing when he explains stuff (which is relatable af because I do that), like in the cutscene he explained to Zelda’s father that a tornado kidnapped his daughter.
He a soft boi. He’s sweet, well mannered, polite and so you’d assume from the way he acts that’s he’s got just the biggest heart ever and is super caring and friendly. Although, I like to think that’s only partly true.
Yes he can be all those things, but that’s reserved for those closest to him. He values people as individuals sure, but doesn’t care too deeply about them. If he was having small talk with a stranger/acquaintance and they told him facts about themselves or stories, he’d mentally tune out of the conversation. This makes him forgetful of details people have told him. So, someone outside his orbit would have to keep repeating the same facts about themselves and their life to him. Which would make repeat encounters with him awkward and not very engaging.
Picture this: if he saw a stranger on the street crying, he’d either dither a bit before straight up ditching them or awkwardly offer them a hankie and a pat on the shoulder. If they tried to vent to him, he’d immediately retreat into his daydreams and just sit there not really listening. Even though he wasn’t paying attention, he’d still be sweet to them before leaving.
The idea of Sky having a lack of consideration for others, especially those who are unpleasant came from that side-quest where Link has the option to give Cawlin’s love letter to Karane or the creepy toilet hand. Given that the latter is arguably the more satisfying ending, I have to accept that as canon, therefore making Sky kind of an asshole....not that the rest of the chain are saints. Sky’s flaws are much more normal than say, Warrior’s fatal overconfidence that is powerful enough to manifest as an evil version of himself if he doesn’t keep it in check.
The two best conclusions to draw from this decision is either he really wanted the toilet hand to find love (although that’s still a dick move because it’s like saying that Cawlin would have no chance with Karane) or just preferred to help out his boy Pipit (tbh I don’t buy that they’re any more than acquaintances though).
Also yes, it is true that Link is exclusively kind and understanding with Groose his former bully. But (and just hear me out here) what that was only because he didn’t care about retaliating or getting even. He’s is on an epic quest, he doesn’t have time to settle the score with Groose, especially when he himself eventually makes himself useful. Being nice to him is just less mentally taxing. And don’t forget that Groose’s animosity stemmed from jealousy, and the player can enter Groose’s room and see a drawing of Link’s face on a punching back- plus the dude was never subtle. Link knew about all that which is why he doesn’t hold a grudge, plus I think he’s always liked him and wanted to be friends.
Sky can be very unforgiving and is capable of holding grudges that last a stupidly long time. That sort of hatred is reserved for the worst of the worst in his opinion, i.e Ghirahim and Demise (Bruh did you see some of the faces he pulled at them in game? There was 1000% malicious intent in those eyes).
Outside of being irredeemably evil, a couple of areas where you could incur his wrath include:
Mistreating the Master Sword: sure Fi was pushing him along the hero’s path, but she’s servant of Hylia and also just following orders, so there’s no need to hold a grudge. As shown in SS, they became good friends over the course of the adventure. Link genuinely likes her.
Badmouthing Hylia: he may not have agreed with everything she did or be too happy with finishing off her crusade... but as a citizen of Skyloft he’d have been a devoted worshipper like everyone else. Having it been drilled into him since he was little, because society be like that. Since he hardly suffered at all during his adventure and arguably did almost everything perfectly, he’d have no reason to stop worshipping her.
Over the course of SS Link does prove himself and becomes a true hero, growing his soul after the Silent Realm Trials (he’s had nightmares about those since and you can’t tell me otherwise) and tempering the Goddess Sword into the Master Sword. I feel like this act severed Hylia’s connection to the sword, giving true ownership over to her hero’s successors. Now the blade draws its strength from the hero’s spirit not the Goddess’ power.
At the end of the journey Link finally fights Demise, and after a hard fought battle (in which the lightning coming from the storm clouds scars his right arm and torso- love those lightning scar headcanons, super creative!) he prevails and ends the Demon King once and avenging the hero before him. Or so he wrongly believes. With his dying breath, Demise curses Link to reincarnate with him in an endless bloody cycle for the rest of eternity.
The fact that the game and Link both sweep the whole curse thing under the rug is jarring to say the least.
To be fair, Skyward Sword’s ending by itself is absolutely adorable...so long as you forget the rest of the franchise exits. Including that context makes this ending bafflingly lighthearted given that it’s the beginning of Hyrule’s cyclical history of suffering and conquest written in blood.
It really comes off as tone deaf to me. The characters, who are completely unaware of the hell that will plague their newly formed kingdom in the centuries to come, understandably feel at peace. But the player and therefore Link should not.
I feel like a bittersweet send off would have been better, a sort of ‘we’ve done what we can and can live in peace, but we need to protect those who come after us’ kind of vibe. Maybe have a post credit scene where Link is telling Zelda all about the epic battle with Demise (the oblivious adolescent dork acting out the whole fight in all his cute hand gesturing glory, with the Kikwis as backup actors), but when he offhandedly mentions the curse her smiling face suddenly hardens.
She tentatively asks him to explain exactly what Demise said and Link does to the best of his memory, but stops part way when he realises that Zelda is now frowning. Voice low and shaking she begins to put together the true meaning of those words, but a defensive Link assures her that it wasn’t a big deal. Maybe he’s so adamant to dismiss it because Fi assured him that it was indeed over (but now he can’t call on her anymore to verify what she meant), but a small part of him trusts Zelda’s judgement and starts to worry. This turns into a fight that neither side end up winning.
It could get really petty. Zelda chastises Link for not finishing the job and he says that her paranoia is the result of Hylia’s influence- which would really sting if they had spent the adventure working through Zelda’s identity together.
The issue is never properly resolved because both don’t have a clear-cut answer, and it starts to eat away at the back of both their minds. To ease her worries (and maybe his own regrets), he advices that they write down the possibility of Demise’s return as a prophecy for future generations. This prophecy is passed down what will become Royal Family in secret until Demise inevitably does show up further down the timeline. Now in his new and improved form: Ganon.
I don’t believe that Sky would be all that into rebuilding civilisation on the surface immediately after saving the world. He’d want life to return to normal and go back to being a regular Skyloftian knight. I can appreciate Sun wanting to take some time off to heal and recover, but soon she’d want to go about establishing relations with the surface tribes and moving the humans back down. Link would go along to protect her and because it would make her happy, but his heart wouldn’t be as in it as hers. And as shown at the beginning of the game I feel like she’d still have to nag him to get stuff done.
Groose would be the goat though, he’d be all for building new inventions for the settlement of humanity and exploring the surface. Man, what a fantastic character.
...
To conclude because I realise that this essay was kind of a mess, I tried to do what I could with Link’s character but the game simultaneously gives me too much and too little to work with. I see him as a soft and gentle spirit, but to the point of being idle. Since he’s crazy talented at a bunch of things, he’s spent his life coasting by on those talents without needing to try. Unlike the others his quest goes perfectly, or at least he doesn’t screw up in any meaningful way and Demise’s curse doesn’t impact him at all. How the fandom can paint him as this near perfect cinnamon roll, I have no idea. Like, he’s cute and a dork, but also kind of a jerk.
For the record, despite my criticisms I do like Skyward Sword and I think the story has a lot of potential. I also just really love Groose, maybe I’ll do an analysis of his arc in the future.
~~~
Thanks for reading!
This is all my opinion, feel free to disagree but pls don’t take what I say too seriously. It’s supposed to be a bit of fun for me.

Why I love Skyward Sword
aka East’s Big SS rant - I’ll put some of it under a readmore since it’s gonna be long :P
So first things first - a lot of my relationship with the Zelda games is born from nostalgia. This is a fact that I am willing to recognize. The first Zelda games I ever played just so happen to be the ones people usually hate the most or care the least about (the oracle games were some of the first video games I ever played, then I played the DS titles, and then the first Zelda game I finished was Skyward Sword - I could go on about this too tbh. We weren’t really a wealthy family and my parents really didn’t like us playing video games so the few games I did get to play are very near and dear to me) - but that’s neither here nor there. I want to talk about why I love Skyward Sword.
I think the first thing to say is that I feel like Skyward Sword has some of the most solid characters. The world of Skyward Sword is relatively small, but the characters that do inhabit it are so vibrant and full of personality - there’s somethign special about the fact that everyone has a house, everyone has a job, everyone has a role in the community. Breath of The Wild did some of this but didn’t quite get there - probably because they had such a large cast! This isn’t a bash on botw, please don’t misunderstand, I just like how Skyward Sword does it’s characters. They’re not only interesting to look at but almost all of them have some kind of side quest you can do for them and stuff. That makes them feel very real.
I think this Link is one of the best links, mostly because he’s the most emotive. The other two that come close are botw and tp link, but both of them usually have blank or serious expressions on their faces. Skyward Sword Link has so much emotion - be it fury or despair or surprise - he’s got such a personality to him.
Both him and tp Link also have these houses (although Skyward Sword Link only has a room) that also helps to give glimpses into these characters and what they do. His little carving set and stuff. In general Skyward sword has some great sets and environmental storytelling. Like the fact that Zelda had to make the sailcloth and then when you get into her room you see that she has various knitting projects and stuff. I adore it. Even the side characters are given this quality treatment - I’m instantly reminded of Cawlin and Stritch’s room with their little personal affects and the pinned bugs and stuff. Or the professors where one has a room full of plants and the other has a big cat tree thing that takes up his whole room.
And man those side characters! I know some people hate her, but I love Fi. I do agree that she could be toned down a bit more but I honestly fell in love with Fi and how she helped Link during the journey. I cried the first and second time I saw Fi’s farewell. Groose is fantastic - he adds so much comedy and levity to game! I remember laughing out loud when he follows you below the clouds. And his character development feels so good because you can really see the trajectory of it. Ghirahim is a fantastic antagonist - and the fact that he’s a sword spirit was really shocking but also hinted at enough that my twin called it during our first fight with him - I had told her that can’t be true since he looks different from Fi but she totally had it right! This is also my favorite version of Impa, the way she’s so duty bound and protects Zelda. Man I love her design too. Oh don’t even get me started on the rad dragon designs.
I remember loving to journey to the Lumpy Pumpkin. I love watching Fi do her little dance thing. There’s just so many things about this game that I adore. And I do admit it’s very linear, the overworld isn’t as open as it could be, the flying sections can be bland. But I think that Skyward Sword just gets a lot of flack in ways that people are willing to overlook for other games in the series. I mean Wind Wakers ocean was very barren, Twilight Princess crossing Hyrule field, even on a horse, is extremely tedious. Let’s be honest - it was probably rushed to be released on the 25th anniversary. But I guess I just don’t see why people have this visceral hate for it. Is it because it’s different from the other games due to being more linear? Did it just release at a point where lots of Zelda fans were old enough they had finally learned how to criticize games and they used it as their target?
I don’t know, it just seems silly to me I guess to only enjoy like three games in this series. And to constantly want those games over and over and being angry when you don’t get them.
Back when I was a kid Skyward Sword was a comforting game to me. I could escape into it. I played it three times all the way through, start to finish. Tbh I probably won’t get it on the Switch unless they’ve added something to it, like I said I’ve played it a lot and I don’t think any remaster is worth 60 bucks, especially when I think it was originally like 40 when it came out.
Anyway I love Skyward Sword and get sad to see people decide that hating it is their mission in life.

Skyward Sword Zelink and Botw Revalink and Sidlink
wow you deadass got my main ships lol don’t worry guys i have more
SS Zelink:
power couple
you’d think that the hardened knight/warrior and enemy of all evil would be the one willing to kick ass at any second but nope its zelda and link is totally fine with that
despite that the two are the cutest things alive and when theyre together everyone melts
every morning link goes out and makes zelda a bouquet so she can wake up to pretty flowers
he also tried to make them matching scarves but failed. it was the thought that counted.
she loves to run her fingers through his hair bc its so soft
zelda constantly shows Link off. she just loves him so much and wants everyone to know it
they were matching outfits smh
when “Hyrule” is established and homes are built on the Surface and Zelda is named ruler/queen/princess Link insists on carrying her around on his shoulders because shes now royalty
link is too shy to do anything too extreme PDA wise. the most he can go for is a kiss on the cheek but when they’re alone catch that boy showering his gf in kisses and cuddles!!!
Revalink:
catch revali complaining about link taking him on mini-adventures around hyrule but always loving them
revali loves to braid link’s hair and even puts one (1) feather in the braid
link is the most encouraging boyfriend ever and goes to watch revali when he trains and claps super loudly (he’d cheer but being a mute he can’t)
revali lets link wear his scarf
link always makes revalis favorite meal (creamy seafood stew and copious simmered fruit)
links smile when hes cooking food melts revali’s heart
catch revali using his wing as protection against the rain for link
#boyfriends that judge together stay together
every time revali gets the honor of seeing link kick some monster ass his love for the hylian boy grows 10000%
revali is so grossly in love with link but he’ll never admit he’s that in love with him
neither one of them can properly show their affection/feelings for one another so they resort to defeating something and taking something off that defeated thing to show that they love one another
the two arent very comfortable with PDA but there are times where they sneakily hold hands or give each other a lil kiss
Sidlink:
they!!! love !!! to dance !!! in the moonlight !!!
sidon always makes sure link starts his days off with a billion compliments
link loves to bring sidon precious gems
link loves physical affection and sidon loves giving it to him
at one point link started calling king dorephan dad to embarrass Sidon but now it just stuck
on one of their adventures together link learned that sidon could push over and destroy a rampaging guardian and you can bet your ass this boy had heart eyes for this giant zora
link is the big spoon
they have matching neck pieces
sidon made a public announcement to all the zora people that he cherishes and loves link
underwater kisses!!!!
every time Link travels to another village (like Hateno or Kakariko) or the castle for Official Business Sidon will back a big old bag for him filled with fairy tonic and weapons
link loves to show off how strong he is to sidon
sidon loves to get link the prettiest pearls
they are never ending support systems for one another

Holaaa!! Question, may I have head-cannons for Sidon who has a s/o that often tries too hard to fit into the prince(ss) and or future king/queen role? Thank you as always 💜💜
(Nice suggestion~ Enjoy!~)
How To Be Royalty (Panic Edition):
Warnings: Anxiety, Anxious thoughts
Terrified But Trying
- You’ve always been aware that Sidon is a Prince and that itself was kind of a scary thought because you worry that you aren’t royal enough to be with him and certainly not hold the title of Princess
- But you quickly grow even more terrified when you learned that he is to be the next ruler of the Zora Kingdom which means that when you get married you will become a ruler as well
- You will be partially in charge of running a kingdom and you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO, LIKE HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO MANAGE THE KINGDOM OF A RACE YOU ARE STILL NOT COMPLETELY FAMILIAR WITH
- But you know that anyone by a royal title must be confident, like King Dorephan, you have to be proud, wise, regal, and perfect like he is, not the semi-awkward casual person that you are
- So sometimes, even though you feel rather uncomfortable doing such important things for the kingdom, you go out of your way in order to make yourself seem smarter and better fit for your role
- You try to tag along with Sidon to most if not all of his meetings with other royals and political members so that you can get the experience and learn from what they say
- It’s unfortunate that most of the time you have no clue what they are talking about and you try your best to slink into the background
- The few times that they have called on you or you mustered up the courage to suggest something, you have only managed stuttering suggestions of things that they always shoot down as a waste of time or money
- You also attend balls with Sidon to try and impress them by trying to act confident and graceful but that usually takes your attention from actually enjoying the dance not and you look so uncomfortable though you are saying rather sweet things
- You often help Sidon with paper work in his office as well and he happily tries to help you learn about what certain things mean and where they go you tried to take over some things and do it yourself double-checking all the writing to make sure everything is perfect though it is completely draining
Not Good Enough
- Though you do rather well with your newfound duties and Sidon has said numerous times that you have surprised him, you still don’t feel like you are doing all that you should be
- These worries drive you to do more and double your efforts to impress everyone and prove yourself
- You take on more paper work from Sidon and though he becomes a little concerned about the amount that you are taking on, you assure him that you are fine and he lets you go (with an offer to come and get him if it becomes too much)
- It takes you several days to get through it all with minimal sleep from staying up so late to double-check and triple-check to make sure everything is completely perfect by the end you are thoroughly exhausted but you don’t stop there
- You take more work and attend more meetings, now reading through several books on politics and royalty in the library so you don’t make a fool of yourself
- You talk often with more confidence and though everyone is rather impressed by your sudden change they can also tell that you at not in the best state of health
- And nobody can tell more than Sidon, he is the one who sees it up close and personal every day
- Work, work, work all day and through most of the night and he can see it taking a toll on your body with your sluggish movements, slower reactions, the light bags growing under your eyes, and you aren’t as affectionate as you used to be
- All you seem to think about is trying to be this picture perfect person to the point that it’s negatively affecting your health and your personal life
Less Contact With Friends
- Because your mind is so enraptured by completing work you completely forget about doing things that you used to do the biggest being hanging out with your friends
- Believing that you have to be professional at all times you stop being playful and just having fun when you meet with the new Champions, Link, Zelda and even sometimes around Sidon
- You remain formal despite your exhaustion and just address them as if you are in any other political meeting and not your friends who most often just want to unwind and forget about their duties for a short while
- They try their best to tell you to relax and laugh together but you’re always so focused on getting back to the Zora palace that you don’t even recognize that you’re acting so cold and ignoring
- You don’t smile, laugh, or play around like you used to and it gets to the point where they wonder if you’re even the same person with how completely out of it you look
- But you always brush them off and insist that you’re fine whenever any of them ask if you are really doing okay, especially Sidon
- It isn’t until one day when you pass out during get together with them that the Prince finally puts his foot down and confronts you
Sidon Understands But Reassures
- When you finally confess why you did what you did Sidon isn’t at all upset, he is actually empathetic because he once did the same exact thing when he was a little younger
- Always trying to prove that he could be just as good as his sister by taking on way more work than he needed to and going out of the way to demonstrate his capabilities
- But Sidon learned a very important lesson from his father that changed the way he thought about work
- “Any King can do paper work and talk politics with the right knowledge and teaching; the proper way to manage between papers, the people, and yourself is something you have to learn yourself. A good tip to remember however, is that the people need their ruler a lot more than they need papers.”
- So he understands exactly what you’re going and wants to help you realize, just like he did, that you don’t have to push yourself so hard just to please everyone around you
- Take it at your own pace to find what works best for you and don’t try to tackle everything by yourself you are not alone in this
- Sidon will be right there for you through every step and you’ll be there for him

for the ship ask thing...olivia/whoever you ship her with idk
You ask me things, I like you. —Ah my wife. I ship her w/ Donnel and either Robin (Who have very similar personalities for this) so I’ll do both, because nobody else is gonna ask me anyhow. —DonOliviawerewolf/hunter- Donnel as the hunter but less of an actual hunter and more of the “please stop ruining the fields I want to impress the pretty lady who’s been showing up wait that’s you?!?” Typemermaid/fisherman- Mermaid Olivia. I wish I could draw because Mermaid!Olivia sounds so pretty. I just really like this idea in general because the thought of either just a full blown Little Mermaid AU or just Olivia flirting with her fisherman donnel while he works sounds so adorable. witch/familiar- Witch!Olivia with a very confused donnel as her assistant/familiar as she tries to teach him magic. barista/coffee addict- * caffeinated donnel screaming* FARM WORK AINT EASY OK?! I also like the coffee shop AU with a really shy newbie waitress Olivia and thinking about how that farmer who keeps showing up is really cute. professor/TA- Well more like dance coach but Olivia would definitely be the teacher, with a very uncoordinated donnel working for herknight/prince(ss)- Idk if you’ve played hyrule warriors but there’s a scene at the beginning where Zelda sees knight in training Link kicking ass and they look at each other and the Zelink shipper in me squeals and takes it as love at first sight. Well replace Link w/ Donnel and Zelda w/ Olivia and that’s pretty much the dynamic I see with them in that teacher/single parent- By virtue of how children work in awakening Olivia would be the parent. Donnel would also be a really cute elementary school teacher. writer/editor- Idk. Olivia would be the writer but I don’t think Donnel would make a great editor. —RobOliviawerewolf/hunter- Wearwolf Robin except they turn into a dragon instead of a wolf and Olivia is a very new hunter and is not happy with the current situationmermaid/fisherman- My stance on the little mermaid AU still stands, but Robin would be a terrible fisherman and would need their mermaid girlfriends helpwitch/familiar- the grimal wizard took a dancer as their apprentice, hilarity and romance ensues barista/coffee addict- Robin as the barista helping the “I have 4 different performances next week and I need to be awake” Olivia professor/TA- Robin would be an amazing professor and Olivia would never leave their side, how cuteknight/prince(ss)- I think either would be royalty but I like the idea of Olivia becoming a badass knight to protect Robin (Also Olivia makes an amazing assassin btw) teacher/single parent- Olivia as the teacher, and cute bonding over Inigo and Morgan spending so much time togetherwriter/editor- Robin’s writing a book on tactics and wanted Olivia to look it over but Olivia had no clue what anything in the book meant.

Your thoughts on fi
*takes a deep breath* BOY have you ever asked the right person! Oh and hey y’all, this is just rife with spoilers about SS, TP, and Zelda games in general. Careful.Fi as a character at base level is super interesting to me, she’s ostensibly a computational program that’s been given a set of information on culture and nature that allows her to engage the world without seeming too alien, on the basis that the hero will come from this culture and she has to be able to appeal to the hero. However, that begins to call into question the nature of actual humans, as she develops more personality, and encounters wildly varied situations that push her into new and more complicated scenarios. As she develops, she starts to exhibit personality. The conclusion of this is drawn towards a blank, as she was both programmed for and begins to understand the concept of self sacrifice. She’s effectively terminated when the sword is sealed at the end of SS, but calls into question the very nature of existence. What is a person, anyways, other than a complicated biological machine with powerful thought processing abilities that is slowly fed information about the world around them that they may interact with it in more meaningful ways?At face value, Fi is still a cool idea to me. I know people really dislike the fact that she keeps telling the player some seemingly arbitraty % probability of happenstance that they know to be true. However, I posit that she is actually a means of suspending disbelief. Link isn’t afforded the view we have in cutscenes, or when the camera pans over to a new chest that we unlocked. Link has never been to the surface, much less a dungeon. His knowledge of tropes and patterns from Zelda games of old can’t inform his decisions, and as the initiator of the reincarnation cycle he doesn’t even have instincts from his past lives to guide him. Enter Fi, who can assure him of things which seem perfectly obvious to us, but are invaluable to the first adventurer.Aesthetically I love her curious design. The sort of organic steel composition of her and Ghirahim is a fascinating concept to me. What sort of texture is that? How solid are they? We only ever fight Ghirahim, and his body reacts to damage in such a unique and curious way… you definitely score hits on him, but its almost as if your sword catches on him, a sort of non-newtonian flesh. The steel of your blade forces its way in before hitching, it seems to tug at him away but doesn’t leave any lasting structural damage. Presumably the flesh is capable of remolding itself and retaining its base form, even in the face of violence.Obviously her movements fall under the scope of aesthetics (I love her dancing, singing, elegant stylings) but I want to more closesly examine that under the concept of magics. The Zelda universe is one where magic is always closely tied to song and movement. The Wind Waker, the Ocarina of Time, the Goddess Harp (and Harp of Ages), I know TP did that silly howling thing but that was even more interesting (I’ll get back to this part). It’s not just the legend of Zelda, a lot of games have cheat codes. You input a series of commands that would otherwise make your character move and act in the world, or in other words you emulate movement within the fiction in a very specific pattern, and produce a wild effect. Fez is actually a great example of this because there are areas where you actually have to do this in game, and the motions your character goes through are plain as day on the screen. Your little adventurer does a fun dance as you pound out a sequence of keys, and suddenly the ocean levels fall, or a grand doorway opens. In Zelda, most magic is performed through some sort of dance or music. Music itself is still a kinetic act, for two reasons. One, its production is a specific series of physical positions, as you pluck strings, press in buttons, blow through the reed, etc. Two, the sound itself is purely vibrations in the air, set to different frequencies and wavelengths as you produce different sounds. So both music and Dance are specific, mundane physical acts that suddenly produce these wild and magical effects. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is when link sits in a boat, conducts an imaginary orchestra for a few seconds, summoning a massive tornado that carefully deposits him across the sea. However, I think that it’s a little more than that. I think magic in hyrule is something of an extra-planar affair. There’s a world of magic layered over the physical one, that can only be engaged in through very specific means. In Twilight Princess, during the wolf howls you enter this sort of ethereal plane, where the whole of Hyrule is laid out before you. The volcano, the fields, the deserts, the frozen wastes, all of these stick out jagged and misshapen. As if you aren’t looking at them, and more so the concept of these places. If there was ever a time in the games where the plane of magic is made tangible, that would be it in my opinion. In almost every temple you visit in SS, Fi comments about some scripture that was left behind for the hero. Close examination of the area though reveals no such physical evidence. Instead, her nature as a magical construct seems to pierce the veil and look at the world as we simply can’t. These messages are all written in a language beyond Link’s understanding, requiring Fi to translate. She, of course, reads them back by dancing. This dancing is essential, I believe, to convert these magic scripts into a form that can be communicated.
Tumblr media
Here’s Ghirahim doing a weird looking dance as he’s preparing to sacrifice Zelda to empower Demise. At face value it’s just a weird thing because he’s a kooky guy. I think that it’s more to do with the fact that physical movement is a necessity of magic. Notice that he teleports around her, rather than walking. He performs very specific dance moves at very specific locations around her- He’s transcribing a magic circle around her basically.Granted, those thoughts on magic are largely in collaboration with my personal views on the nature of magic. Real magic, to me, is in patterns and themes of the mundane producing extraordinary effects. I could write a whole separate post on what I think of “Pattern Magic” from Friends at the Table, but this is already getting out of hand. Suffice it to say, I think Fi provides valuable insight into the nature of magic in Hyrule and the Zelda world at large, and I wish she wasn’t just passed over as the annoying percents sidekick.
Fi is also very cute, and I think a lot about what her role might have been before being sealed with the sword. She’s so floaty and graceful, but clearly went through great lengths to learn more of the world and what to expect, in order to better assist the hero of legend.tl;dr Fi’s pretty cool in my books.

Breath of the Wild
So I beat the game yesterday and I just really feel like voicing my complaints with the game. If you haven't beat it yet, scroll past this all. •Korok Seeds. Getting them lets you trade certain amount of them in to increase the size of your weapon, shield and bow inventory. Everything else is infinite. Each exchange nets you ONE extra slot to the inventory you chose to upgrade. And to the amount required keeps getting higher. 900 of them are in the whole game, but you only need about 441 for a maxed out inventory. The reward is a golden shit that makes Hestu dance whenever. Nothing I said about this pleases me. It's a ton of busy work for very little reward in return and it only keeps getting worse the more you find. •The Master Sword. Earning it is optional, but to do it (cuz why would you not want it?), You gotta find 13 unmarked locations around the world, and your only hints are the pics Zelda left for you on the Shiekah Slate and this Pikango dude who can point you in the right direction. That doesn't bother me so much as each memory recovered is a nice cutscene of Link and Zelda's time together before Link got wiped out. You also need about 13 Hearts so that Fi doesn't kill you while you rip her out of the ground. I'm under the impression that the memories make it easier to accomplish somehow. Once you have the Master Sword, it does 30 Damage, glows blue when fighting very specific enemies tainted by Ganon for double damage, but if used on things that don't make it glow, it eventually wears out and you have to wait 10 minutes for it to be usable again. This sword has been on countless adventures with a ton of Links across time, and it had no problem cutting through countless Octoroks and Moblins. If it was super overpowered, I would understand needing a recharge to not break the game, but I find countless weapons that are stronger than it, no prob. I just wanna walk around Hyrule being the dude on the box, but I rarely get a chance to pull it out without it needing to charge. •The Ending. I showed up in maxed out Hylian Trousers, Champion Tunic, and Hylian Hood. Master Sword and Hylian Shield in hand, 27 Hearts and plenty of back up ammo and weaponry. The trek through Hyrule Castle was perfect. It was challenging, set the mood, the music was great, I have no complaints except for the dang Guardian turrets juggling me across the floor. I get to Ganon, and the cutscenes during boss phases of the fight were hype af, and Ganon was so perfectly creepy and unsettling and he looked like some kind of rotting demonic mashup of Ganondorf, Guardians, that red and black goo and some kind of twisted insect. I was genuinely intimidated by the guy all the way up to here. Given how difficult it was in the beginning of the game, I was expecting a real struggle. I wiped the floor with him. I don't think I even needed to heal at any point. It was a joke. Phase 2 was basically just "walk in circles and shoot giant targets while Dark Beast Ganon acts tough" and then we get the most basic ending ever. Zelda shows up in a ray of light and banishes Ganon, thanks us for saving her and Hyrule, they look at the castle just after the Champions and the King fade away, roll credits. Wasn't even good credits music, it was a calm medley of songs like Karariko Village and the Shrine music. After that we do get one scene of Zelda and Link as they set out to do more exploring and eventually rebuild Hyrule, but it barely felt like an ending. Zelda doesn't say anything about how she's been fricken locked up in a big gooey Ganon heart cage for 100 years. Nothing about how she stayed young the whole time, nothing about the Champions or her dad, all we get about her past with Link is "Do you remember me?" and there could have been so much more. Look at OoT, where we seal Ganondorf in an amazing boss fight, get some closure from the princess, go back in time and prevent Ganondorf from doing anything, the Sages look out upon the land they helped save, big party in Hyrule Field, big hype cover of the main theme of the franchise, good times! I finished this game barely feeling like I accomplished anything. Hyrule Castle is still covered in the Ganon goo, nothing changes except the menus showing how much you have left to do, but it's not a reliable percentage cuz 70% of it is based on the 900 Korok Seeds. I'm left with those, the Compendium, side quests and upgrading my armor as all I can really do and it feels pointless. I hope the DLC packs add enough for me to do and see that they can improve upon what I got here. •Costumes. In total, this Link can acquire the blue outfit we see in all the art, and the clothing of NES Link, OoT Link, WW Link, TP Link, Dark Link, Shiek, and with unreleased amiibo we can get Fierce Diety Armor and SS Link. He also gets his own green tunic very much based on NES Link if you do all 120 Shrines. I kinda wish the outfits of the other Links could be earned outside of the Amiibo, even if it's something challenging like, say, a dungeon based off the puzzle mechanics of the game of the Link you get the outfit of. An OoT dungeon to get OoT outfit, for example. Not the biggest complaint, but yeah, I just really wanna be OoT Link in HD without buying the Amiibo for this one use. •RAIN. Can't climb, can't stay at a campfire to progress time, and it can easily become a waiting game. What fun. •this is more about like, the reviews and opinions of others that can apply to other games too, but I don't think "breaking the tradition" and "going retro" automatically mean "better." I'm fine with Link having this new blue tunic design, it looks great, that's a GOOD example of breaking tradition. A bad example of breaking tradition is, say, my complaint about the Master Sword becoming rarely usable. Dropping us in a world where we can go in any direction we want right off the bat? Good retro. Ganon having no dialogue on top of a lackluster ending that doesn't give us much? Bad retro. I also don't see how we can praise a game for doing away with traditions while also praising it for bringing back old things. That just seems like "yay, we got rid of the old things. Yay, we brought back the old things" and that kind of contradicts itself. Not a fault of the game, just the mindset I tend to see around when people critically look at the game. Think that about covers it. Other than all this stuff, I really enjoyed it. Personally I prefer the MiphaXLink ship over the SidonXLink ship cuz Mipha actually loved him and made him a Zora tunic to basically propose to him with before she died, and Sidon just kinda showed up and gave the whole "I believe in you! Look at my pose!" Without Link doing much to earn it or Sidon even knowing who he was talking to. Sidon's a cool dude, don't get me wrong, but Mipha earned it.

Nintendo Direct E3 Takes
Well we’re pretty much done with E3 at this point, and it looks like once again Nintendo is carrying the whole damn thing on their back.
This is obviously a bit biased, because I’m not really into the AAA gaming industry otherwise, and the only other potential announcement I cared about didn’t happen. You had one fucking job, Capcom. One job.
Anyway as I did last time this came around I’m giving some hot takes like every single other person on this godforsaken internet because innovation is dead and react culture is king. Shall we?
Smash DLC Fighter…10 or something idk
Tumblr media
I mean, look. I was hoping for an indie representative. Kazuya isn’t really that. But on the other hand, Tekken rep is something I can still get behind. They’ve already got Street Fighter and Fatal Fury in there, might as well get Tekken. What’s next, Raiden from Mortal Kombat? Hell, might as well get some Rivals of Aether character in there, might as well, don’t even have to change much.
From what little we’ve seen of Kazuya’s kit, it looks like his gimmick is going to be…complicated input combos for special attacks. Hm. Well, it’ll probably be fine. People managed with Ryu, they’ll manage with Kazuya. I do appreciate that they gave this guy his demon form- I guess they had to make him jump somehow, huh?
 Life is Strange
I haven’t played the original Life is Strange, but I did watch a playthrough so I know how it goes. Don’t really know much about Before the Storm or 2, but I don’t think 2 is part of this collection anyway? Look I’m probably not going to buy this, but it’s probably good that it exists. The original was like, actual good rep, I think, so they’re probably not going to fuck this one up. New character is neat looking, good for them.
 A Bunch of games, I guess
Guardians of the Galaxy? Damn dude, did I ask?
Worms Rumble said it had 32-person multiplayer, which I was like well hang on how’s that going to work with turn-based Worms combat you’d be waiting for ever. Except it isn’t turn-based. And it looks like ass as a result. F.
Astria Ascending…I’m reading this name and I already forgot what this was. Sorry if you cared about it I suppose.
I know nothing of the Two Point…series, I guess? I keep on seeing Hospital pop up on either Steam or the eShop, and I’ve scrolled past it without thinking twice every single time. Not about to change that.
 Super Monkey Ball
I understand this series was a lot of fun for a lot of people, but it just looks miserable to me. With that said, I have seen some speedruns of these games that look incredible, so on that axis I’m happy this is getting made. Makes doing a marathon-length run of this a fair bit easier.
 Mario Party
Look I haven’t even gotten around to playing my (very fake) Mario Party 3 cart, you think I’m going to buy another 80 dollar game on top of that? Nah.

Yoooooooooooooo lets fucking gooooooooooooo
Okay so I’ve actually never beaten a Metroid game. Got some ways into Fusion and Super but didn’t complete either of them. But this looks super cool and good and I’m here for it. They mentioned that this was the first new 2D Metroid game in 19 years, which I guess means Fusion was the latest one.
…wait how many Metroid games are there even? Like, the original, Super, Fusion, the three Primes, and that one we don’t talk about…is that it? That feels a lot smaller than I thought it was, but I guess it adds up.
Just don’t cock it up, I guess. Metroid and Castlevania’s absence have left indie devs to fight for the Metroidvania name, and it’s about time the big boys got to come back around again.
 More bullshit
Just Dance 2022. Is this one also coming out on the Wii?
Some racing game that looks cheap as fuck, neato. Man I feel bad for the devs working on these absolute shovelware games, like I bet they’re either working hard or being worked to the bone. But this is what the result is. R.I.P.
It’s about 13 years too late for me to be caring about Dragon Ball. Especially since this is just a port. Next.
Mario Golf
I mean we saw this earlier this year. I don’t even know what was actually new in this presentation.
Bowsers outfit is fucking clean though. Once again proving himself the best Mario character.
 Monster Hunter
Fuck off Capcom. Y’all are leaving Mega Man in the fucking dust and he doesn’t deserve it.
I mean I guess ill get into it here, I mostly just wanted something, anything for the Mega Man Battle Network series. It’s their 20th anniversary, and we haven’t gotten shit so far. Literally just a MMBN collection for the switch, that’s all I want. They were even on the Wii U VC, you can just port those again, I don’t care fucking give it to me.
Anyway. Monhun? Ehhh they already showed this at their lacklustre presentation who cares.
 Warioware
Look I haven’t played this series before, it’s probably fun, but I’m not sure how they stretch microgame content out into a fully-priced game.
Also, the multiplayer looks kinda miserable? Like, in case Mario Party was a little too efficient for ruining friendships, now you can yell at one person specifically for fucking the both of you up, and vice versa. Wheeeeee.

Shoutouts to Squiggy, they’re super hype for this and I’m happy to see it. I personally again haven’t played this series, let alone Persona (though 4 is sitting untouched in my steam library, oops), but it looks pretty aight. I’m sure there’ll be a huge pile of demons to fuck up, or friend up, and some level of story that people will like (I have literally no idea what the plot of the series is), so. Atlus (?) has been at this for a long fucking time, they aren’t goofing this up.
 Danganronpa
Tumblr media
Shirtless Rantaro Shirtless Rantaro  (shamelessly stolen from u/ AnaLissaMelculo on r/danganronpa)
I’m interested to see Talent Development Plan develop into it’s own fully fleshed out game. It was surprisingly good for a tacked-on minigame, and I hope that they’ll fully take advantage of its potential.
It also looks like the 4 games are releasing separately on Switch, but there is a physical collectors edition with all of them, and I mean, I can probably afford that, riiiiight?
R.I.P. Ultra Despair Girls fans, snubbed yet again. Ehhhh fuck it aside from the dialogue that game sucks ass so its fine.
 More stuff
Fatal Frame looks spooky, I guess. I dunno, I was talking to mates through half of this one so I basically missed it.
DOOM Eternal DLC, cool. I still haven’t finished the original.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater should be on the Switch, and now it is. Or, it will be, in a couple weeks. Good.
There’s something on this list of notes called Strange Brigade, and I have literally no idea what that is. Oops again.
Mario+Rabbids 2, now with a Rabbid Goth GF. I’m terrified to go on any fuckin NSFW platforms for the next couple weeks, because I’m sure everyone is drawing incredibly cursed hentai of that thing. Ubisoft sucks ass, fuck Ubisoft, don’t buy this.
 Advance Wars
Tumblr media
This sure isn’t Fire Emblem. Actually when I was explaining to my mates why this was cool, I called it Fire Emblem but with tanks instead of waifus, except I forgot this game still has waifus. I know strategy nerds love this series, so for their sake I’m happy to see it remade. This just looks unbelievably cute.
 Zelda
Tumblr media
Oh look, Hyrule Warriors 2 DLC, Zelda gets the motorbike now, cool who fucking cares we got more BOTW sequel footage
It does kinda bug me that people keep calling this BOTW 2, because there’s no way that’s what it’s going to be called. Zelda has never done numbered sequels. I mean, they’ve also very rarely done sequels at all, but there are a few- Phantom Hourglass is a sequel to Wind Waker iirc.
It is kinda funny that right after I was saying boo who cares to Skyward Sword remake (still mad this is one game and not a collection) that the new game clearly has SS-ass floating islands and such.
I was hoping we’d get to see Zelda do things this game. Apparently not, she’s stuck in a hole now. Or dead. A shame. But Link at least looks kickass, so.
Look, they could not say a single other thing until release and everyone would still buy this game. Breath of the Wild was an incredible enough game that so many things that vaguely resemble it get compared- Genshin Impact comes to mind. This is likely made by the same (or similar) team, in the same world, and it looks fucking incredible. We all know this is going to be a good game. My hot take isn’t going to change that.
 And that’s the tea, sis. All the shit that Ninty had in their corner of E3. It’s a pretty solid lineup! It looks like they are bringing their A-game. I was kind of surprised not to see any Pokemon stuff- while it usually gets its own direct these days, BDSP is really coming up soon and they kinda need to win back the crowd on that one.
Oh what am I saying, it’s fucking Nintendo, it’s too big to fail.

Note
Why don't you just do all the ones divisible by 5.
5. What is your favorite Zelda moment?The final strike against Ganondorf in Wind Waker
10. Which corner of the Triforce would you have?Courage for sure
15. If you could be any character which one would you be?Other than Link? Because I would be Link if I could.If couldn’t be Link then I want to be Pipit from Skyward Sword. Idk, but I always liked that dudeOR Ghirahim. Sass death blade of doom
Tumblr media
20. The enemy that throws you into a fit of rage when you have fight them?The Imprisoned from Skyward Sword. I HATE fighting the dang thing, and it’s one of the reasons why I don’t feel like playing SS anymore
25. What is your favorite & least favorite sidequest?My favorite side quest, if you could call it a side quest really, is now collecting the memories in Breath of the Wild. Finding them was hard as hell, but so worth it.My least favorite side quest is this one in Spirit Tracks where you have to transport some goods through a cave and you are being chased by this giant spider. you have to kill it before it destroys too much of your goods. I’ve never been able to beat that, and really that’s the only thing keeping me from 100% completing Spirit Tracks
Tumblr media
30. Who was your favorite sidekick and how did you see their relationship with Link?This is tough. On one hand I LOVE Midna. On the other hand I love Fi. Midna carries with her a certain type of story telling that Nintendo wasn’t so good at. We had development on a important character throughout the entire game. The game, essentially, is all about her. The piece Midna’s Desperate Hour is easily one of my top 3 favorite Zelda tunes. However, I also love Fi. Many people hated her because she was Navi 2.0 in terms of annoyance, but I ignored her if I had to. As a lore geek, the story of Fi is something I’ve been dreaming of. The little things here and there, how she is the spirit of the master sword and often dances (like a blade) when telling Link a story. How, at the end, you lay her to rest and she is silent. Of all the companions, she is with you the most. The fact that she now rests at the bottom of an ocean at the end of WW makes me sad.
35. What’s a headcanon that you can’t let go of?I did have a head canon that Urbosa was Zelda’s mom, but then I found out that Zelda’s mom died. Hm, I guess my head canon is that Ocarina of Time Link has a peaceful death because his life is more tragic than a Shakespearean tragedy ;-;
40. Is there anything in the games that you wish were different?Breath of the Wild changed much of what I wanted to be different, so not at the moment, no.
45. Do you have any Zelda tattoos?No BUT I am planning on one. I was thinking about getting the Wheel of Time from SS on my back. Part of me joked about getting the triforce on my hand.I’m very picky about tattoos and the artist who does them so we’ll see. But a Zelda tattoo is a given for me.
I’m gonna save 50 for a different post since it might be long xD
