[MAJOR SPOILERS FOR LIES OF P- KIND OF. ITS AN AU SO ITS MORE SPOILING THE PLOT AND CHARACTERS IN SAID PLOT]

Lies of P x Hunger Games ! au, District 3 Reaping, now with more Romeo!

Romeo proceeded to spend the rest of the train ride genuinely thinking he had gone insane.

This is a continuation of another post I did -with the district 12 reaping. To be completely honest, it's Romeo who makes this au interesting, it always is. I mean P is interesting, but Romeo is where most the plot is.

ANYWAY! Something important to know in this au is that Krat is not the capitol, but rather a part of district 3 that managed to push itself to an economic boom through it's own automation (puppets). The capitol didn't want Krat to have the power it gained, but it couldn't do anything about it, because the developers of the technology (namely Geppetto) refused to show how to make the puppets to anyone outside of Krat, while also establishing a monopoly of puppets. There was a massive desire of automation in the capitol, which led to more investment into Krat. There were attempts by the capitol to recreate it, but none succeeded, so they had no choice but to buy from Geppetto and/or Venigni.

This lead to Krat being seen as a "extended part of the capitol" as the people managed to raise their standard of living due to the reinvestments of the booming economy. The capitol knew they couldn't stop the city from growing, so they decided to block it off from the rest of district 3 and try to regain control socially. They moved in some people from the capitol -trying to establish an upper class, while also trying to get the people of the capitol to see Krat kinda like a vacation area. By cutting it off, they managed to make sure District 3 could not overthrow the capitol through Krat, even if many in Krat still despised the capitol.

However, the agreement was that all of Krat's population would be excluded from the Hunger Games, so there wasn't much fuss from the people.

But then the puppet frenzy happened. And Krat swiftly fell, with very few actually making it out, Romeo being one of them. All puppets became hostile, even ones in the capitol (although few). The capitol saw a scape-goat and they took it. Geppetto was vilified, blamed as the cause of all this destruction -but he disappeared before the capitol could get him. They assumed he had been killed.

Venigni was an unique case. Yes, he did make many puppets, however he focused much more on quality of life advancements, rather than complete automation. When the frenzy occurred, he was on the front lines trying to stop the disaster, as futile as it was. But he was also incredibly rich -even to capitol standards- so when the people of Krat could finally leave, Venigni managed to buy his way into the capitol, where he was warmly welcomed by many fans of his.

That year of the puppet frenzy, the Hunger Games were cancelled. They couldn't go ahead with the puppets at the capitol causing a (admittedly small) crisis. The next year they did go ahead like normal, but many of the survivors of Krat were still unaccounted for and lost, so were not legally obligated to attend.

It was two years after the puppet frenzy when Romeo could attend the reaping, and made his decision to partake in Carlo's stead. Little did he know of a certain mischievous puppet who wasn't doing as he was told.

Borrowed Heart

A/N: Not sure how happy I am with this....

The walk back was eerily quiet. Pinocchio was too used to the clanking sounds of puppets or the thuds of monsters inhabiting the streets of Krat. Now, as they walked back with the morning sun, Pinocchio felt on edge for the first time in his journey.

They had to stop often because Sophia was unused to her puppet body. Pinocchio offered to carry her back, but Sophia wanted to stand on her own after so many years. She wanted to feel the streets in this new body and familiarize herself with home once again. Home. Where even was home now? The hotel was the end goal, but what was left there for them, for him? It was destroyed, half burnt, and Lady Antonia was dead.

“The sun feels warm,” Sophia’s surprised voice cut through Pinocchio’s thoughts.

He glanced at the rising sun, then back to her. He could feel wisps of the sun’s warmth, but never had he closed his eyes and felt it as she did. She did not look at all like the Sophia he knew, but he supposed she was there.  

“I suppose it’s because I have more memories and experiences then you,” she surmised, and her eyes opened to look at him.

Instantly, Pinocchio sat down, crossed his arms, and felt the sunlight, missing Sophia’s wry smile. Slowly the sun gently coated his face and its warmth seeped into his clothes. It was, nice. Good. Why hadn’t he done this before? Maybe, if he was good, his father—.

Pinocchio sat up, walked away from the sun’s light, and took out his rapier. Sophia frowned but got up to join him. They walked back in silence once more. After a while, Sophia dared to start a conversation with the puppet.

“It’s so nice to meet you in person”.

Finally we meet, son.

Pinocchio nodded.

“I’m excited to meet everyone in person!”

When they returned, Polendina would welcome them as guests. Eugenie might have more to say to Sophia, but she might also decide to leave. Lorenzini might leave too. Who would be left to meet them?

“Pinocchio’s sweetheart is someone you should definitely meet,” chirped Gemini.

“Oh yes!” Sophia exclaimed. “It would be a dream to see the two of you together!”

It’s a dream come true seeing you like this.

She looked at the puppet, expecting to see his usual bashful face looking away. Pinocchio did look away, but his eyes were somber.

What should he do if everyone left? Should he go with them? What was there for him, a puppet without an objective? Maybe he would just return to the train cart he woke up in. Sit there and wait till he was called again, till he was needed.

Misunderstanding Pinocchio’s expression, Sophie gently patted his shoulder.

“I’m sure she’s safe, young one”.

Were you safe? Even though the puppet frenzy had stopped, there was still miasma in the air. What would make you stay?

Seeing as her words failed to make any change in the puppet, Sophia allowed silence to settle between them. When they finally approached the hotel, the sun was starting to set. As the two puppets climbed up the stairs, they could see a crowd of people lingering outside the door.

“There he is!” Eugenie’s voice cried out.

Suddenly Pinocchio found himself surrounded by all the hotel residents. Shouts of relief and laughter cocooned them, but Pinocchio could hardly make out one word from another. It was all too much. He placed a hand on his head but didn’t understand what to do.

“That’s enough,” a familiar voice called out. “Pinocchio is tired”.

At the revelation of hearing a puppet become tired, the group peered at the puppet hard and saw that your words were true. Instantly the tone shifted, and Pinocchio found himself being led by a stream of arms into the hotel. He didn’t know what happened next.

When his eyes next opened, he found himself in the dark. His eyes instantly adjusted, and he sat up. He was in a room. He felt the sensation of a hand on his head and snapped his head in the direction of the arm. You were gently smiling at him, but your eyebrows were tense and your lips thin.

Looking at you, Pinocchio felt guilt flood his system. You didn’t leave. The others didn’t leave. Polendina still remembered him.

He saw you open your mouth, but before you could say anything, his own words fell out.

“I killed my papa”.

He saw your face shift and could pinpoint some of the expressions. Surprise, confusion, and something else.

Again your mouth opened to speak, and again Pinocchio cut you off.

“I am guilty”.

He looked down and spoke the next words quietly. “I understand if you despise me”. I understand why some people despise me.

“Oh Pinocchio,” he heard you say and felt your arms wrap around his head. “What happened?”

The story came out, little by little. At times Pinocchio did not have the vocabulary to express what he went through and could only gesticulate or bring up moments in stories he read. Still, you managed to peace together the story and a sudden fury overtook you. It was too bad Geppetto had died by his own creation, you would have loved to take such honours. You looked at Pinocchio. Although he allowed you to hold him, he did not submit to your affections with the same relish and ease you were accustomed to. He sat there, awaiting judgement.

You had to think carefully over your words now. Pinocchio would forever live with them. But what do you tell a being whose entire purpose was to serve others?

“The problem with being human, Pinocchio, is that decisions have consequences. No one, but us can bear these consequences. You made the decision to save yourself. Your father made the decision to save your heart”.

“Not my heart,” Pinocchio whispered.

“Carlo’s dead,” you snapped, and Pinocchio turned to you, surprise in his face with the sudden anger you displayed.

You gently wrapped your hands around Pinocchio’s face. He could feel the warmth of your hands and relaxed when he saw the anger fading from your face.

“From head to foot, I only see my Pinocchio”.

Pinocchio looked at you and gave a weak smile. You knew it would take a long time before Pinocchio could truly believe in your words, but at least for the moment, he stopped blaming himself. Instead, he let you guide him back to the bed and wrap the blankets around him once more. Before you could leave him to rest, his hand shot out and latched onto your arm.

“Don’t leave”.

There was something deeper in his voice, and though it worried you, you didn’t hesitate to join him. In a familiar manner, Pinocchio wrapped himself around you and lay his head on your chest. He could hear your heart quietly beat. As his eyes closed, a little smile spread and a thought fluttered by. My heart is right here.

Ya'll need to learn to love more than one character. Like someone loving a certain character does not take away your ability to love a different character or even their ability to love a different character

Izzy's my favorite character, yeah. But why are people assuming I hate Ed?? I fucking love Ed. I adore him so much. He's so baby girl. He tries so hard to be good and a lot of his worse actions are fuelled by his self-hatred and loss. He's fascinating to me and I want to study him like a bug. The way he distances himself from his cruelty ("technically the fire killed those guys") and how he presents himself differently to different people (the party boy to Jack, the sensitive sap with Stede, the ruthless captain to Izzy) are both things that I fucking love analyzing and talk about to my partner constantly. I love how hard he tries to be a good person! I love how he is slowly learning how to care about people on their terms instead of his own. I love his growth and how much he WANTS to grow

You know who else I love? Stede! His compassion and care for the people around him is so touching and I love that he takes so much pleasure in the little things. I love how we've watched his confidence build since the first episode, where he was constantly panicked and nervous, to a capable captain who still loves his crew but will defend himself and won't take as much shit from people like Nigel. He'll defend his crew instead of hiding like a coward. I love how he delights in details like fancy wardrobes and a cursed suit because he takes pleasure in small things like that! In marmalade and puzzle chests. He's a sweetheart and he rejects the idea that he has to be cruel to be capable

Oluwande was my favorite character when I first watched season one (though I dislike a lot of his season two writing because it feels like they dumbed him down) because he's kind and very intelligent. He cares a lot for the crew and he's extremely capable while also being a little goofy and being soooo bad at addressing his feelings. I love that he was so obviously in love with Jim, but had that first instinct of denying it if questioned because that's so often how crushes work! His little "What? No! Shut up!" When the chief pointed out his feelings for Jim still makes me giggle. He's a little awkward, but he's sweet and he's supportive. He also can be a little shit when he wants to be, like when he basically made Jim confront their past because he was petty about them not telling him about it. He's always got people's backs and there's a reason he was chosen to be the captain during the Izzy mutiny.

Jim is a character who means SO much to me as a trans person. Their arc is so special to me and they're also just... so fucking cool. I love their journey of figuring out who they're supposed to be versus who they WANT to be. Their struggle with what's expected of them and them wondering if they even want what they thought they wanted is so touching. Them defending Izzy is actually so great to me because it shows their loyalty and their need to defend their family. It didn't have to be Izzy, it could be any member of the crew and they would have their back. Because that's what family means to them. "Our dick" says a lot about them, as does their little "He was your friend" line. Jim cares about people even when they're quiter and more closed off. Hell, they stabbed a man in the first episode for insulting Frenchie and they didn't even talk yet! Them being the one to tell the Pinocchio story to Fang was so great because it shows just how soft they really are and want to be.

Speaking of, I also adore Fang so so so much. He's such a sweetheart and he's sensitive and he cares so, so much about his friends. He's a big softie and I wanna hug him. I bet he gives such great hugs. As soon as he's given the allowance to be soft, he takes it. He misses his dog that Ed forced him to kill (which I feel like no one talks about?) and gets blushy and giggly about Lucius finding him attractive. He's just!! So fantastic

I wish we knew more about Ivan because I love him and I have so much fun imagining stuff about him. Like how I hc him as a trans woman

Archie as a character is so fun and I wish wish wish we got more of her because I fucking LOVE everything about her. She's so fun to watch and I want to know how she gets along with Oluwande and I want to see her interact with the rest of the crew so badly. The way she fell in love with Jim because of their hope makes me CRY. I love that she kisses Jim while they're covered in blood and there's a rotten leg like a foot away and she doesn't care. I love her energy and her excitement and every scene with her just makes me grin like an idiot. I'm still so mad about the season being cut because I feel like we could have gotten more scenes with her

Roach is fucking great. My partner and I will quote "meat is meat" at each other constantly. He's so ridiculous and I love him. I love how obsessed with Zheng's soup he is. I love his bitchy "how am I supposed to cook here?" when Stede moves them to live under a bridge. I love how chill he is and the faces he makes when he's reacting to things. He's so funny and I love him

Frenchie is my fucking beloved. His mind box is something I think about so often. How he doesn't want to think about all that has happened to him, but doesn't. How hurt he is. How he fucking deserves every bit of becoming captain of his own ship. The fact that he sings and plays an instrument (I do not know what specific instrument he plays. Is it a ukulele?) and sings about how they're all gonna die with a grin on his face. He's a dork and I love how he hides Izzy at great risk to himself because he cares about his family as much as Jim does. The way he expdcts Ed to kill him and basically offers to do it for him just to get it over with (if I'm remembering correctly). I love his superstition and how he believes it's supported by fact! I think his superstitious beliefs are so, so interesting and I want to know where he learned them.

Wee John is so fucking great. How long has he been doing drag? What happened to his mother with whom he used to make dresses? I need to know! I love that he just wants to set things on fire all the time. I love his line about "I'd love to be stabbed by Jim". I love all of him! He's such a fun character

I love Lucius and how trauma genuinely changes him. He's a bitch and he's petty and he loves gossip. He's the first person to insert himself into a shitty breakup, helping both Stede and Ed at different points. Him keeping Jim's sex a secret and him helping both Stede and Ed is so interesting to me! He's a supportive friend and he's a slut (affectionate) and he's a bitch (affectionate) and everything about him makes me obsessed. I like that Stede has to talk to him about opening up about his trauma! I like that Lucius genuinely loves Pete and how his trauma has made him more bitter. I love how he's still the first person to call bullshit on Ed.

Black Pete actually used to annoy me, but he's grown on me. I love that he's such a dork who struggles with insecurity to the point of making shit up about himself. I love how much he loves Lucius! I fucking adore his one-liners and his delivery of them. He's so fucking funny

I could spend fucking hours talking about Mary Bonnet. I love her so much. Everything about her makes me feral. How she refuses to take Stede's bullshit. Her paintings! Her relationship with Doug that seems so fucking sweet. I love this woman. Please bring Mary back. Please. I'm begging

Buttons is Buttons. Everything about him is fucking fantastic and I want to chew on him like a chew toy

Me enjoying a certain character does not take away from my absolute love of other characters. I tend to talk about Izzy most because I find active displays of tragedy more interesting and Izzy and Ed are the most outwardly angsty characters (which is also why I'm usually talking about Kraken Era Ed when I discuss him). They outwardly express more dramatic feelings rather than characters like Stede or Frenchie who bury a lot of those feelings or express them in different ways. Izzy is from the dramatic genre and I love dramas. Comedy writing is not my specialty

But I can recognize that while I think about other characters a lot, I don't talk about them as often. So expect more metas and discussion of more characters in the future (hopefully. I just write things as I think of them and them to my queue tbh)

Gerard and Elody thoughts (Spoilers for ep 9)

Wow episode 9 of NeverAfter really got me having feelings about our mister frog man and his sweetheart.

I think a lot of the fandom definitely misjudged gerard at first because of the way he presented himself but thats what is so amazing about this story, due to the very bltant horrible things happening to Ylfa and Pinocchio its easy to draw that line to gerard's story. Especially after we literally jumped from pinnochios story, to ylfa and then to gerards.

What happened to him also wasn't justified. He was 10, barely a pre-teen, who was stuck by himself as a frog for years, without actually companionship, facing the elements, almsot dying, no one believed him when he said he was a prince, his own family didnt even try to look for him.

Even a shitty 10 year old doesn't deserve this. As the group says it made sense that he just wanted balls and fun stuff. he missed out on all that.

While Gerard does look back on this suffering and what he been through with the gang as a way to take ownership of his actions and how he behaved I also think the tragedy of his romance with elody was after he turned back to human she didn't understand his childhood trauma.

But regardless of this all you can tell where Elody started to fall for him. Gerard cursed (her expression when he said the full f-bomb was one of awe), he was a slimy frog but he kept his word and got elody's golden ball, and he ultimately wants her to be happy. Which makes me so optimistic that perhaps there will be a happy ending for these two.

They deserve to live happily and get to learn and each other and fall back in love again.

Sebastian J. Cricket

The cricket tells you a lot about his adventures in faraway lands. You're amazed by the stories of mountains of Peru, voodoo magic of New Orlean, colour festivals of India and temples of Tokyo and Sebastian dreams about taking you with him next time.

In spite of how many books he has read, sometimes he may have troubles finding the right words to express everything he feels about you. But the way he writes his memoirs, saying that he's very grateful for having you in his life, is one of the most conclusive proofs of his affection.

Geppetto

The woodcarver had no idea, that he would find love again so many years after he had lost his wife. Nevertheless, he has no right and honestly no desire to grumble when he gets to know you.

You're kind and patient and such features are appreciated by someone like Geppetto. The way you treat him with all care and gentleness simply melts his old heart. By the way, you love watching him work, observing how pieces of wood turn into something delicate in his hands. This pushes him to give you some carving lessons. At first, it goes slowly and you may feel a bit clumsy, but his encouragement and your efforts lead to one of the most memorable pastimes ever.

When it comes to wooing, Geppetto is adorable. He carves small cute things for you, like a little ring with a bright pattern or a jewelry box. He also brings you wildlife flowers as often as possible and makes delicious meals (the best stews, soups and pies) before you show up. Moreover, it's not obvious at the first sight, but the old man is shy as if he is a 17-year-old boy on a date. He may even blush a little, when you give him a hug or a kiss on the cheek.

You take long strolls around town and its neighbourhood, chatting about everything that can come to mind. Geppetto is not only a great storyteller but also a good listener, who is always very attentive to every single detail you mention. However, it's likewise relevant, that you feel absolutely comfortable when you don't talk. The moments of sitting on a hill in complete silence and watching the sky or standing at Carlo's grave, leaning on each other and holding hands are cherished the most.

Due to some age difference Geppetto may be a bit grumpy and act parentally at times. However, the relationships with his sons have taught him that the happiness of his loved ones has to be in the first place and your own opinion and choices are highly respected by him.

Geppetto is very touched, seeing how easily you get on with Pinocchio with all his endless energy and curiosity (little boy is eager to know, for example, when you and his papa are going to get married). You're very pleased to spend time around Pinocchio, treating him like your own child, which convinces Gepetto once again that he has made the right choice.

Count Volpe

Volpe isn't used to having a regular partner, one-night stands are quite sufficient for him. But your case is some kind of exception. He is enamoured by your beauty and wit and initially tries everything to make you a part of his lovers' "collection". He hardly knew, that the whole process would be much more fascinating than the result.

He uses words more often, than deeds to show that you're dear to him. For example, he comes up with a lot of pet names: sunshine, mon trésor, mon bonbon, chaton, honey...

Volpe is very tactile and touch-starved, he express his affection both in private and public: a little pat on a shoulder, a slight thigh stroke, a kiss on the ear. Dancing is another way to stay closer to you, whether it's a passionate tango or a slow-dance to soft songs on the records. By the way, you're the only one, who is allowed to play with his hair, even when he's asleep.

When he loses almost all of his fortune, you have to cope with his fits of anger and despair that end up with arguments. Anyways, you support him, trying to find a solution. Volpe refuses to take you with him in carnival tours, explaining that he will find you when the things get better. The letters you send frequently is the only way to maintain contact. He rereads every single one, keeping them in a special box which even Spazzatura isn't able to find.

In this AU, it is the same story as the main game of Omori, only this time Faraway Town is in the form of a fairy tale/fable type of world known as Faraway Land, a Wonderland if you would, with each Omori Cast Member coming from a different fairy tale. Movie Review: Here

Director Robert Zemeckis tends to get a bad wrap in recent years, but people forget how original and exciting his early films were like I Wanna Hold Your Hand (I was honored to have my short The Beatles Boston screen with it at Mendon Twin Drive-In in 2017), Used Cars, and his magnum opus, Back to the Future, a perfect movie from beginning to end. Zemeckis is truly regarded as a technical innovator for his visual effects in the BTTF movies, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and Forrest Gump, which he won an Oscar for. But in the last few years with his emphasis on animated (Beuwulf), remakes (Pinocchio) and noble letdowns (Welcome to Marwen), he hasn't had that same magic of his earlier films. But again, credit where credit is due, Zemeckis is a tremendous influence on me with the BTTF movies and therefore I might not like everything he does, but I'm always curious what he's doing next. Thirty years since Forest Gump, Zemeckis has reunited with screenwriter Eric Roth and cast members Tom Hanks (a Zemeckis regular in Cast Away, Polar Express, and Pinocchio), and Robin Wright (Beuwulf and A Christmas Carol) for Here, which opened this weekend.

The entire movie shows one area from one angle over the course of centuries. There is intercutting between dinosaurs, Native Americans, an early aviation enthusiast, the inventor of the La-Z-Boy recliner, and more, but the primary inhabitants are a post-World War II couple Al (Paul Bettany) and Rose (Kelly Reilly) about to start a family. Among there kids is Richard, who is eventually played by Hanks. He brings his high school sweetheart Margaret (Wright) to meet his family and eventually they have their own family in the house. It intercuts between the family and the inhabitants of the space before and after.

There are some genuine moments here and I can say I liked, well, pieces of this. But the entire movie hinges on the foundation of the gimmick. Some movies based on a gimmick can work (i.e. found footage movies...the good ones anyways), but in this case the gimmick of showing one space (mostly the living room) over a period of time from one angle is just Zemeckis trying to do a ton of "Hey Look at Me! Look what I can do!" directing. Trying to show the space and highlight one area and intercut that with another time period in the same space (i.e. two different pandemics or Ben Franklin and then intercut to a costume party in the 70s where someone is dressed like him). At this point in Zemeckis's career he doesn't need to do "Hey Look at me and what I can do!" directing. He has proven it already! I felt like there could've been a more interesting film about this family without the gimmick and the technical wizardry. I get that it was trying to show all of these life moments through this space - birth, death and everything in between. But there was also (semi-spoiler) too many deaths (I think there were fewer deaths in some horror films). There was a better movie in this that was actually held back by the gimmick. Hanks is always reliable and the emotional heart of the film was Bettany. But in the end, Here wasn't here nor there unfortunately.
