Gerard and Elody thoughts (Spoilers for ep 9)
Wow episode 9 of NeverAfter really got me having feelings about our mister frog man and his sweetheart.
I think a lot of the fandom definitely misjudged gerard at first because of the way he presented himself but thats what is so amazing about this story, due to the very bltant horrible things happening to Ylfa and Pinocchio its easy to draw that line to gerard's story. Especially after we literally jumped from pinnochios story, to ylfa and then to gerards.
What happened to him also wasn't justified. He was 10, barely a pre-teen, who was stuck by himself as a frog for years, without actually companionship, facing the elements, almsot dying, no one believed him when he said he was a prince, his own family didnt even try to look for him.
Even a shitty 10 year old doesn't deserve this. As the group says it made sense that he just wanted balls and fun stuff. he missed out on all that.
While Gerard does look back on this suffering and what he been through with the gang as a way to take ownership of his actions and how he behaved I also think the tragedy of his romance with elody was after he turned back to human she didn't understand his childhood trauma.
But regardless of this all you can tell where Elody started to fall for him. Gerard cursed (her expression when he said the full f-bomb was one of awe), he was a slimy frog but he kept his word and got elody's golden ball, and he ultimately wants her to be happy. Which makes me so optimistic that perhaps there will be a happy ending for these two.
They deserve to live happily and get to learn and each other and fall back in love again.

OP this is absolutely magical
Now that everyone is thinking about gerards curse as similar to Sophie's from Howls moving castle I absolutely love the idea of gerard speaking this and his form changing somewhat and he doesn't realize.
But oww also my heart. I just want these two people to figure things out in a way that benefits them both andmaybealsotogether

d&d is making me SUCH a second chance romance fan. was not into that trope at all but Elody and Gerard?? Laerryn and Loquatius???
idk there's something so powerful about going "And they all lived happily ever after. the end."
Something about "I don't hate you."
just,, "I can't believe that the thing I almost broke beyond fixing was us."
and gerard and elody were friends first. and quay's mail still goes to laerryn's house.
maybe it's the child of divorce in me but it just feels so much fuller. life doesn't end at the wedding. love doesn't live forever but it lives as long as you care for it because it is a plant. it grows and it needs water and sun and if you don't nourish it, it will wilt and take your heart with it, but sometimes they come back after the winter. sometimes you keep on loving anyways.

“I was destroyed.”
Still thinking about Gerard and Elody reunion where I was destroyed. SHE SAW HIS CORPSE. SHE THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD.
I’ve been wanting to draw Elody for a while because I have such brainrot for her and I think she is so neat and I just always want to see more of her all the time. I am an Elody apologist. An Elody truther.

MANIFESTING AHEAD OF EPISODE 12 OF NEVERAFTER
PLEASE LET ELODY AND GERARD REUNITE
I WANT TO SEE MY NEURODIVERGENT PRINCESS SHIELD MAIDEN REUNITE WITH HER HUSBAND WHO HAS GONE THROUGH CHARACTER GROWTH AND IS A LOVING PERSON AND LITERALLY REALIZES THAT HE LOVES WHO SHE IS.
LET THEM LIVE HAPPILY BRENNAN.
AND BY LIVE HAPPILY I MEAN I WANT TO SEE THEM GO OFF ON ADVENTURES AND GERARD BASICALLY TO BE ELODY'S HYPEFROG BY USING HIS BATTLE-MASTER SKILLS FOR ELODY TO ABSOLUTELY CLOBBER THEIR FOES.

Flying Golden Goose -$3,001
Mother Timothy Goose, Twice - $3,001
Pinocchio, Twice - $3,001
Prince Gerard of Greenleigh, Twice - $3,001
if I had a nickel for every time a mini in W2 sold for exactly $3,001, I’d have 4 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened 4 times.
Wave 3 (W3): 5/15-5/19 - closed! - final wave!
Black Ink - $4,000
Mother Timothy Goose X Gander - $3,504.69 (nice)

Big Bad Wolf - $3,303
disclaimer: the (unsouped) Big Bad Wolf will count as a PC, since it is only ever controlled by Emily. It also counts as a maxi since it comes specially packaged and is Big. if it comes first or last I will note the runner-up as well since it’s a bit of a gray area and maxis = $$

Most Expensive: Black Ink - $4,000
Least Expensive: Barrel Swordsmen 03 - $801 (oh how the mighty have fallen)
Priciest PC: Mother Timothy Goose X Gander - $3,504.69 (nice)
as it is a maxi, I will also list the runner-ups
Big Bad Wolf - $3,303 (also a maxi)
Pinocchio, Thrice - $3,205
conversely, Puss In Boots “Pib”, Thrice was the least pricey PC at $1,234! rip.

Baba Yaga - $3,270
Least Expensive Named Character: Aesop - $827
Most Expensive Unnamed Character:
Author’s Ink Hand - $2,501
was debating if this is a character or not. if you think it’s not, the runner-up is Book Construct - $901. not a lot of unnamed characters in this wave
Least Expensive Unnamed Character: Barrel Swordsmen 03 - $801
Most Bids: Nara, The Orange Fairy - 133 bids
Least Bids:
Scheherazade - 17 bids
Most Bidded-on PC: Princess Rosamund du Prix, Thrice - 111 bids
Least Bidded-on PC: Puss In Boots “Pib”, Thrice - 20 bids
*excluding maxis like Black Ink, Big Bad Wolf, Mother Timothy Goose X Gander, & Alba Mac Lír
The Tale of Barrel Swordsmen 03
at a maximum of 4 hours into Wave 1, the 4th bid on Barrel Swordsman 03 was placed for $1,501. Most of the other minis (including PCs) hadn’t even broken 1,000 at this point. When wave 1 closed, Barrel Swordsman 03 was sold for $1,501.
for comparison, Barrel Swordsman 01 sold for $445, and 02 for $431. In fact, all of the furniture people sold for the lowest prices in the whole auction. Except, it seemed, for Barrel Swordsman 03, who beat out Rosamund (once) at $1,388, Tim (once) at $1,235.
it seemed that was all to the story.
until.
Tumblr media
[taken 6:32 pm EST on 5/18]
i mean there can only be one answer - the person that bid $1,501 for him couldn’t pay up. so...he’s back on the market?????
he returns. with a slightly new title: Barrel Swordsmen 03. he has multiplied since we saw him last. or, in their haste to get him up on the site before the auction closed, the person writing his name mistyped (understandable and much more likely).
he sells for $801. on the higher end of the furniture-people prices, but nowhere near his former glory
who are you, bidder #4? what were you trying to do? how did it all go so wrong?
/j
that’s it folks. have a good one!

Ok tangentially related to Neverafter, I saw this post last night at 3/4 in the morning and the idea gripped me like a madness so I have to explain the final product of my thought process from last night to you
Gerard and Gilear are equals, but in different categories; Gilear is pathetic, and Gerard is cringe and there's a difference, lemme explain sksjskd
Gilear's life has just been a normal level and type of sad for most of Fantasy High. He found out his wife cheated on him, they got divorced, he moved out, got fired, was really down on his luck, etc. That's a real thing that real people in the real world experience all the time. So while it is really sad to look at, that very pity for his lack of agency in his life that just keeps getting worse is what makes him pathetic instead of cringe.
Gerard, however, looked down the barrel of the worst choice he could possibly make in any given situation, went "yup, that's good!" and then got a one way ticket to Rock Bottom shoved up his ass because of HIS OWN CHOISES he CHOSE to make. Yes everything is bad because of the Neverafter and yes Murph rolled poorly, but there were a hundred other ways to try and get Elody to see where he was coming from. Murph chose to do that, you can see the same cackling horror of watching a train about to crash on his face that Lou had during Fabian's bad day.
(memes stop)
----------------------------
(character essay starts)
His agency in doing the exact wrong thing is what makes him so cringe that it circles back around to endearing, and I think him being cringe is part of what makes him such a compelling character.
Gilear's life is funny as a bit because he keeps experiencing Looney Tunes levels of misfortune but Gerard's life is interesting because he keeps making these huge, UNWATCHABLE mistakes but every time he does he genuinely learns from it in some way. This isn't someone coming to terms with the fact that everything X person said about why they're bad is true, this is a dude learning to grow up in that slow and painful way adults do. It's messy, and it's bad, and it's frustrating, but it's organic, and fulfilling, and honest, and that's why it's so special to me.

Poor Gerard. He was really going through it in this episode and lashing out at Tom Thumb and NOW as we see from the sneak peak that that he is being forced to confront whether or not Elody still loves him
