hey! i love your superbat works so much!! thank you for writing and sharing them with us <3<3 would you ever consider writing a post-MoS au where Clark becomes Bruce's office assistant (hired by Lucius, perhaps)?
/o\ :D Aw, man, thank you so much, anon—I'm so glad to hear it! ;-; Thank you right back for reading them; I love writing, and I would probably do it even if nobody but me was getting anything out of it, but that doesn't mean it isn't the best feeling in the world to know that somebody else is getting something out of it (\;-;/!!!!!) and I appreciate it so, so much. ♥
AND rest assured I absolutely would consider that, haha—to tell you the truth, one of the many story ideas I have had floating around for ages but haven't quite pinned down well enough to turn into an outline is an MoS AU where the final part of Clark's hobo period is him getting hired by Alfred to take care of Bruce Wayne's cars :'D and of course Bruce starts hitting on him on the reg but then gradually gets genuinely intrigued, gets to know him a bit at a time, gets caught up in him ... and then Zod still shows up, but this time Bruce is EXTREMELY EMOTIONALLY INVESTED. :D
Which means! I'd absolutely l o v e to write the quasi-mirror/almost-companion version where it's post-MoS and Clark is getting hired as Clark Kent for real in Bruce's office, exactly as you say (maybe trying to build up a bit of a freelance portfolio before applying at the Planet = needing a job to pay the bills while he's working on it?), getting stuck dealing with Bruce at his Bruce Wayniest :'D but also they're both full-up on Black-Zero trauma, and I get to indulge myself in like 100k of identity porn square (because I will never get tired of Batman rescuing Clark Kent, Superman rescuing Bruce Wayne, Bruce Wayne trying not to make friends with Clark Kent and failing, and Batman trying to keep Superman at a distance and failing :D). *______*!!! I can make you no promises, because I can't be trusted to do anything in a timely fashion :'D but thank you for the prompt, I love it and I'll be daydreaming about it all week, and if I do manage to actually write it, I can only hope you'll enjoy it! ♥ ♥ ♥ (And if you have any more thoughts to share about what you'd like to imagine happening in the story, feel free to drop me another ask about it, anytime!)
#asks#asks:anonymous#susie is ten pounds of ideas in a five-pound sack#she has more of them than she will ever manage to write#but she is definitely better at getting stuff done for other people than for herself /o\

Which are your Favorite Dick Grayson's Hair Styles?? And how you think his hair would look like in real life?
(i wish it was like Harry Styles hair but with Ian Somerhalder color)
Hi,
The first part is easy. As far as I am concerned, tiny DickRobin combed his top hair back; two curls usually fell over the forehead.
Detective Comics # 38; World's Finest Comics # 75; Batman: Full Circle # 1;The Untold Legend of the Batman # 2; Superman # 700.
Some time in his teens, he started to part his hair on the side, with a fringe.
Batman # 327; Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Last Stories of the DC Universe; Nightwing vol 4 # 39; Tales of the Teen Titans # 44; New Titans # 86.
And in his early 20s, he changed style again. It’s something in between a a longer, floppier version of his childhood style, and a curtains hairstyle.
The look will vary quite a bit. At times, he takes the time to fix that perfect, straight parting. More often than not, he doesn't. Sometimes, the hair almost falls over his eyes, and sometimes - though very seldom - almost all of the top hair states in place combed back. On the whole, it's often a bit longer than Bruce would have liked - after all, there's always something more important than getting a haircut.)
Nightwing vol 2 # 49; Hush; Prelude to the wedding: Nightwing vs Hush; Nightwing vol 4 # 1, # 78.
Now, the second part was trickier... I can't think of a person/photo of exactly how I would picture Dick's adult hairstyle in real life. (Though Brenton Thwaites doesn't look bad in Titans, i m o.) Again, I imagine it would vary a bit but there's usually some hair falling forward. Anyway, here are some ideas.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Review: Still Possesses Turtle Power After All These Years
Cowabunga all you happy people! I freaking love the Teenage Ninja Turtles. I grew up with it from Turtles in Time, which was my first video game, to the 2003 cartoon, which I covered the first three episodes of last month, and on to present day as I re-read the idw comics after finally reading the original eastman and laird run of mirage, and impatiently waiting for Shredder’s Revenge to come out after a LONG drout of no good TMNT games. I”m a fan of these heroes four, their dynamic as a family, the endless possiblities that come from it’s long history and ablitlity to go anywhere in any genre, and the wonderful goofy shit that happens when you have a franchise about mutant turtles learning ninjitsu from a rat and fighting a dude covered in knife covered samurai armor.
So with me finally covering the guys after almost a year last month and with a new movie set to debut at some point this year, I had the bright idea to revisit the FIRST TMNT movie after way too many years of not watching it. This movie is anear and dear to my heart: When I first started getting into the boys big as a kid with the 2003 cartoon, I badly wanted more turtles. But back then it wasn’t nearly as easy to glom onto some more of the sewer shock pizza kings: Streaming sites with all the cartoons on them weren’t all that accesable, dvd’s were expensive for the 87 cartoon, Mirage wasn’t reprinting the comics in any meaningful way and my local comic shop didn’t have any at all and I could only play the SNES when my brother had it set up on occasion like at our Grandma’s farm.
As you probably guessed though there was one exception: the original 1990 movie, which I got at Walmart for 5 bucks and haven’t let go of since. It was one of my first dvds and is still one of my most precious. Said film hit the spot just right as like my beloved 2003 series, it was a mildly goofy but still fucking cool adaptation that stuck closer to the mirage comics, even more than the 2003 series would, while taking a few queues from the 87 series. This film is as precious to me as the 2003 series and a with a brand new movie coming up, I figured it was the exact right time to dig into this classic: what makes it still good to this day, what’s fun to point and laugh at, and how the heck Jim Henson got involved in this. So join me under the cut as I take a look at my boys first theatrical outing and why I still love watching a turtle.
No One Wanted To Make This: Before we get into the film itself some background. As usual I struggled a bit, but thankfully found some help in the form of this Hollywood Reporter article. It’s a fascinating read worth your time, providing an oral history of the film from the people who worked on it.
The film was the baby of Gary Propper, a surfer dude and road manager for the prop comic Gallagher, aka that guy who used to smash watermelons but now has instead opted to smash what little’s left of his career by being a homophobic douchenozzle. He found an ally in Showtime producer Kim Dawson who’d produced Gallagher’s special. I don’t think there will be more of an 80′s sentence than “Gallagher’s surfer dude agent wanted to make a teenage mutant ninja turtles movie”. Propper was a huge fan of the comics, and with Dawson’s help convinced Laird and Eastman to let them option it to studios.
It may come as a shock to you but the road agent for a homophobic watermelon man and a producer at a niche cable channel wanting to make a movie based on an underground comic book about masked turtles at a time when the two most recent comic book movies were Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Howard the Duck, did not go well. Every door in Hollywood got slammed in their face, even Fox> Even the eventual backer of the film, Golden Harvest, a hong kong action film studio, took months to convince to actually back the film.
Things did not get easier from there: The films writer Bobby Herbeck had trouble getting a story agreed on because Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s working relationship had deteroiated horribly from the stress so naturally the two could not agree on a damn thing and argued with each other. Peter Laird made a tense siutation even worse by constnatly sniping at Herbeck and feeling he was a “Hollywood outsider infringing on his vision and characters”
Granted the script was apparently not great... but Pete still comes off as a pretnetious ass who views his weird indie comic as THE HIGHEST OF HIGH CALLINGS HOW DARE YOU SOIL IT. And continued to be kind of a prick like this throughout the rest of his time with the property.
Thankfully the film found i’ts voice, vision and director in Steve Barron. Barron was a music video guy who knew the producers and while reluctant, eventually dove into the project rightfully thinking the film would need to be a mix of the mirage comics and 87 cartoon, keeping aprils’ reporter job, the turtles lvoe of pizza and their iconic color coding from the cartoon but adapting several stories from the comics as the backbone of the film. The guys liked barron MUCH better and things ran smoother.
Barron also brought in one of the film’s biggest selling points and it’s most valuable asset: it’s triumphantly awesome Jim Henson costumes. Barron had worked with good old Jim on the music videos for Labyrinth, and while it took some convincing since the comics were violent as hell and that wasn’t Jim’s style, Barron eventually got him on board. This naturally doubled the budget, but given Henson’s costumes STILL hold up today and look better than the cgi used in the platinum dunes films... it was a good call. And this was brand new tech for jim, having to invent tons of new ideas and mechanisms just to make the things work, and said things still were absolute hell on the actors. Jim later ended up not liking the film for being too violent... which I find hilarious given how many muppets got eaten or blowed up real good on his show but regardless, I thank this legendary and wonderful man as without him this film WOULD NOT have worked. The costumes here look great, feel realistic, and you can’t tell the actors were dubbed much less horribly suffering in those suits. Much like Disney Land.
The film would get picked up for distribution by New Line, and despite i’ts weird as hell origins and the long shot it had.. the film was a MASSIVE hit at the box office, owing to a combination of Batman 89 the previous year having proved comic book movies can work for audiences, the cartoon’s runaway sucess, and a massive marketing campaign. The film made it’s mark. So now we know how we got here let’s get into the film itself.
What’s the Story Morning Glory?:
So the story for this one is largely cobbled together from some of the more notable arcs Eastman and Laird did before handing off the book to others full time as the stress of the company and the mounting tension with each other made it near impossible to work together on the book itself.
To Save time i’m just going through what hte movie takes from the comics plot wise now to save me the trouble later:The movie takes elements from the first issue (The Turtles, Splinter and Shredder’s backstories, Shredder being fully human and the main antagonist, Shredder’s design and the final rooftop showdown that results in Shredder’s death), second and third, (April’s apartment over her dad’s old store and the turtles moving in when their home is ransacked and splinter has gone missing), the rapheal micro series (A tounge in cheek way of cashing in on the Mini-Series craze of the 80s, a one shot by modern standards and something that’s tragically been underused as an idea as only TMNT and MLP have used the idea at IDW, Raph meeting casey and their fight with one another), the return of shredder arc (One of the turtles being ambushed and mobbed by the foot and then thrown though a sky light (Leo in the comic and Raph here), the turtles being horribly outnumbered by them, Casey coming ot the rescue and metting the non-raph turtles for the first time, and them being forced to escape when the place goes up in flames), their exile to northampton (April writing in a journal, casey working on a car with one of the guys and one of hte guys looking over hteir injured brother), and finally, their triumphant return which was very loosely adapted as there are no deformed shredder clones and shredder not being dead yet in this version was not brought back by a colony of super science worms.
So as for how this all comes together: Our story takes place in New York: A crimewave is high with muggings mysterious. There are a ton of phantom thefts going around and at most people have been seeing teens responsibile. And the police.. are at about this level of useful:
The only person doing something is April O’Neil, played by Judith Hoag. Hoag is easily the standout of the film, giving us a strong, confident woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She honestly might be my faviorite April O Neil, and given we’ve had some great ones with 2003, 2012 and Rise, that’s not something I say lightly. I honestly wish I’d recognized her in more stuff as she was both on Nashville and the mom in the Halloween Town films, and most recently was on the ScFy show the magicians. She’s a talented lady and i’m glad she’s still goin.
April is a reporter for Channel 3 like the cartoon, though for some weird reason her boss from the cartoon is replaced by Charles Pennigton, played by Jay Patterson, whose currently dealing with his troubled son Danny, played by Micheal Turney. Pennington is horribly useless at both jobs: At work he tries to ease April off calling out Chief Sterns, who refuses to listen to April’s evidence gathered from japanese immigrants that the crimes resemble similar ones in japan in favor of trying to get charles to shut her up. Danny meanwhile is a member of the foot becase his dad thinks shouting out him and talking about him like he’s not there and generally being a dipstick will actually do anything to help him.
I love the concept for the foot here. In addition to being a Ninja Violence Gang as always, they now recruit new members by finding kids without families or with troubled family lives and giving them a sense of family with the foot, and sweeting the bargin with a giant cave filled with arcade machines, a skate ramp and general late 80′s early 90′s kids goodies. Is it rediculous? Yes. Is it also clever as it gives Shredder an easy army of plausably deniable theives that he can pick the best out of to put in his elite that will be tirelessly loyal to him and him alone? Also yes.
So April being public about this stuff gets her attacked, which naturally leads to our heroes coming in, first in the shadows and later directly when April wont’ give up on the case and Shredder sends some ninjas to go shut her up.. which he does weirdly as the guy jsut slaps her and tells her to cut it out like he’s on a domestically abusive episode of Full House. Raph saves her, and we get the turtles origin.. though weirdly they cut it in half. We get the ooze portion but Splinter’s past with Saki, Saki’s murder of his master and his master’s partern Tang Shen is left for later in the film and the fact Shredder’s saki is treated as a big twist despite the fact the biggest audience for the film would be kids... and kids would’ve been familiar with the cartoon where the giant brain monster routinely screeches out saki at the shredder. Maybe Barron just thought he was an alcoholic I don’t know. It just would’ve made more sense to have it all at once and let the audeince put it together.
April becomes good friends with the turtles over a night of frozen pizza and camradrie, but the Splinters return home to find it ransacked, Splinter kidnapped by the foot, and are forced to Stay with april. Charles meanwhile tries to get April to backoff because he made a deal with the police to clear Danny’s record, without TELLING her any of this mind you, but I will save my rage on that little plot point for in a bit as Danny who he drug along sees the turtles and tells the Shredder.
So we get the return of the shredder arc as Raph goes through a window, our heroes fight valiantly, and Raph’s friend Casey who he met earlier shows up, the two having bonded as all true friends do.. by beating the shit out of each other ending with raph shouting DAMNNNNNNN really big and dramatically into the sky for some reason. The Turtles and friends escape with an injured raph from April’s burning second hand store. She had a second hand store it was poorly established and only there because she had it in the comics.
Our heroes retreat to a farm April’s grandma owned in Northampton, Massachutes, where Mirage was located at the time the original comics where they were exiled to the place were written and a location that has been a staple of the turtles ever since. The turtles slowly recover, lick their wounds, talk about who hooked up with who on gilligans island etc, before Leo connects with Splinter via meditation, who tells them to come back. Splinter also starts to connect with Danny and convinces him to swtich sides.. or at the very least squat in the boys old home.
The boys return home, find danny, and prepare, Danny goes back and ends up giving away the Turtles are home.. but the turtles are ready and in an awesome sequence kick the fuck out of the foot squad sent for them with some well prepared steam vents. Casey goes to get splinter since Danny told them and with Danny’s help, finds him, since Danny found out they were gonna kill him. Casey beats up Tatsu, shredder’s right hand man, and they get him out.
We get our final fight which is awesome up until the climax.. which is splinter casually tripping shredder with nunchucks and thier bloody history being kind of rushed and unsatsifying. Casey crushes shredder with a garbage truck, April gets her job back, more on that in a moment, she and casey hook up, and we end with the fucking awesome song T-U-R-T-L-E Power by partners in cryme. Seriously check it out it’s fucking triumphant.
youtube
The song is just good.. cheesy? Sure but that’s half the fun. It’s the gold standard for movie theme songs for them and stacks up handily with the various animated series themes.. all of which slap. Okay... ALMOST all of which slap. Fast Forwards is aggressively medicore, which is doubly suprising to me since 4kids was REALLY damn good with theme songs. It was one of the three things they were best at along with finding VERY talented voice actors and setting japan based works in america because merica dammit.
The plot is very solid: It skilfully packed half of eastman and laird’s run on TMNT into 90 mintues while adding things like April’s job at channel 9, the way the foot recurited kids etc. The plot flows well for hte most part and apart from one annoying subplot we’ll get to never has a moment that feel unecessary or dosen’t pay off later. And the stellar plot and fun pacing of it helps boilster the characters that do work... and help paper over the ones that are so thin the’yd fall down a grate...
Our Heroes, Villains and Annoying Middle Aged Guys:
Yeahhhh character is hit and miss here. Some are rather strong, others are the bare basics for the character their adapting and most are just to serve the plot but some work some don’t, So let’s talk about it starting with our boys:
Raph is the most fleshed out of the turtles, being the main focus of the first 2/3 of the film, and having his anger be part of what SHOULD be a character arc, learning to temper it. And while granted MOST TMNT properties do this, to the point that Rise Raph is so loveable in part because his boisterous bruiser big bro attitude is a refreshing break from the usual grumpus we get. But at the time this hadn’t been done in every version but the 87 cartoon, so exploring it was valid.. but despite saying this should be a thing htey just forget about it and the most plot relevance he gets is going thorugh a window. He dosen’t really get a resolution.. his arc just kind of stops dead for the final half and it’s one of the film’s weaker points, one I only just now noticed on this rewatch. He’s still the most entertaining.
Leo is the weakest of the turtles. He really lacks a personality here mostly just being leader and while his spirtual side is touched on, it’s mostly a plot device. He’s just kinda the leader because he was in the comics to the point Partners in Cryme called Raph the leader. His role in getting taken out by the foot was taken by Raph, so he just has.. nothing to do for most of the film other than gripe at raph ocasionally and say orders. He’s probably the worst Leo i’ve seen outside of Next Mutation. I prefice that because after watching Phelous’ review it’s VERY clear those four are the worst versions of the characters, and no personality is still better than either having your team do nothing or yelling at them as your personality. I chalk this up to the Mirage Leo, and the mirage turtles to a poit being kind of bland. Not TERRIBLE characters, especially for the time, but not nearly as fleshed out or individualized as they woudl be in other adpatations, and with most traits LEo DID have, like his badassery flat out gone, he’s just.. nothing here.
Mikey and Donnie are a double act here with both sharing a brain. Interestingly instead of his normal genius character, Donnie is Mikey’s best friend and the two simply trade jokes and schtick together. The two are interchangable.. but easily the best part of the film and a lot of the most memorable gags and lines, from Ninja Kick the Damn Rabbit! to “Do you like Penicllin on your pizza”, are from them. Thier there almost entirely as comic relief but it works, with both clealry being more modled ont he 87 cartoon turtles, a move that helps lighten the mood in darker moments. Their just genuinely charming and it’s intresting to see such a diffrent version of Donnie, and other incarnations, specifically the 2003 and Rise versions, would retain the sarcastic edge.
Splinter is splinter. That’s about it, he’s peformed well and the puppet is amazing but he gets kidnapped a half an hour in and outside of influcencing Denny, more on that in a moment, and finishing Shredder he dosen’t do much but spout exposition. He’s not bad or anything, but he’s essentially a rodent shaped plot device. He was also puppeted by Kevin CLash, aka the guy who does Elmo. So there you go.
April on the other hand.. is truly excellent. This might be my faviorite April. Judith’s april nicely blends the cartoon and mirage versions: She has the cartoons energy and job, but the comics sheer will and casual nature. Judith just oozes personality and her April is just a joy to watch, from her breezy chemistry filled interactions with the guys to her confrntation with Chief Sterns, knowing she’ll get thrown out by the asshole. She’s confident, and even when afraid dosen’t back down to her attackers and even helps out during the sewer ambush. I mean it’s a pot on the head but still it’s neat. She’s easily the best part of the flim and the most fleshed out of the cast. The worst I can say is they kinda shove her store from the comics, Second Time Around, in there for no other reason than it was in the comics: It dosen’t come up until it’s needed for the foot’s assault on her place. But overall.. she’s just fantastic to watch.
Speaking of fantastic to watch, Elias Koteas is fantastic as Casey. Seriously he’s only second to the 2003 version in my eyes, getting the concept of a testorone filled average guy who decided to just go out and hit people with sports equipment after watching too much A-Team.. I mean that part of it’s not in this version but it’s implied, just right. Like judith, Elias is just really funny to watch and his big scenes, showing up just in time during the foot assault on april’s place and his fight with Tatsu are some of the best parts of the film, the former taken directly from the comics. This version isn’t without problems: His friendship with Raph, his most endearing aspect and one that has been carried throughout eveyr version Casey’s important, with the only exception so far being rise and we have a movie to fix that, is absent here. HE does save the guy, but they don’t really bond or anything. In fact he disappears for about half an hour after his big fight with Raph. But... again he’s just so damn entertaining, down to his JOSEEEEEEEEEEE Conseco bats (There was a two for one sale!).
Shredder is just a LITTLE better than splinter, if only because his actor projects a true aura of menace and I feel this version had some influence on the pants crappingly terrifying 2003 version. And the idea of the foot recurting teenagers like I said is a good one: He gives them home and a cause, they give him plausably deniable backup. And his fight with the boys in the climax is really awesome... the conclusion sucks but otherwise h’es okay. Not the deepest villian, but he has enough presence to be enjoyable.
His right hand man Tatsu, whose been adapted ocasionally since this and reimaigned as Natsu in the IDW comics, a female version, is also fine. He’s your standard grimacing goon but has enough presence to work.
So that brings us to the penningtons. Charles, april’s boss at the station and his son Danny who’s joined the foot as he feels his dad dosen’t love him. Charles..is about as interesting and likeable as a dog turd and is the worst aspect of the film. No debate there, he just sucks. He sucks so hard he’s classified as a black hole. The film wants you to see him as a put upon wokring dad whose frustrated with his son’s increased moodiness, skipping school and crminal undertakings and just wants to help him and loves him deep down. The problem is his actor’s delivery instead of concerned.. is just pissed. He just seems pissy and upset about the whole thing and comes off like he’s only mad about Danny doing this because he’s embarassing him and not because you know, it’s bad. When confronting Danny about stealing, he dosen’t consider MAYBE he’s part of a gang or needs help, but just wonders “Why are you stealing when I give you stuff”. Because, Dipshit, sometimes kids do crimes not because they need the stuff but because they WANT to, and because they want to act the fuck out.
The most he does for the kid is agree to try and get April to back off the police when Cheif Sterns offers to let Danny go and not put him on record in exchange for it. The problem.. is this makes him even MORE unsympathetic. While I do get wanting to help your child, I do and it’s a sucky position... he again should be sympathetic.. but he handles the thing so badly it sucks. He just tells april to ease off, with no reason given, then fires her when she SHOCKINGLY dosen’t give up taking the guy whose refusing to take her hard work seriously or actually solve the crime wave problem to task for his shitty behavior as ANY person facing a shitty, corrput cop would. She just wants to hold him acountable and get him to actually do something. He clearly knows her on a personal level too as he talks about his issues with his son freely with her, something you don’t do with an employee unless their also a friend on some level.
He could have TOLD april what was going on. She’d be furious at Stern’s naked corrpution and prioritizing shutting her up over actually solving crimes.. and thus put at least some of that energy into shutting him down or finding a way around it, going to the papers or something like that. Even in 1990 pre-internet, there were ways to get around Sterns blackmail and expose him so someone who’d actually do the job could get the job. Instead he just comes off as a selfish coward who rather than try and fight the guy blatantly abusing his power and using Charles own son as barganing chip, goes along with it because it’s the easier option to simply bow to him instead of TRY and stop this. And it’s not like he’s even going after a beloved public figure or someone who could hide behind his rep: Sterns was blatantly failing a crime wave, April had called him out on his failrues and coverups multiple times. The public was against sterns.. finding out he tried to blackmail the media into shutting up about him would PROBABLY end him... I only say probably not because the public wouldn’t skewer him, but because police tend to escape consequences for blatantly murdering someone on a daily basis and Andrew Cumo is STILl mayor over in new york, the same city this movie takes place, 31 years later, depsite EVERYONE asking him to resign over a long history of sexual harassment and a more recent but still horrible history of hiding death numbers. I don’t doubt people being stupid enough to ignore this or the bilaws with cops being stacked enough for him to get away with it, but just because someone gets away with a crime dosen’t mean you shoudln’t try and go after them in the first place. Fuck. Charles. Pennington.
Danny on the other hand is FAR more interesting and I think gets way too much flack when it comes to this subplot. Unlike his dad, whose dead weight, Danny is intresting: He provides a POV character for the foot’s MO in the film of taking in wayward teens, and his character arc is pretty engaging, slowly realizing the foot dosen’t care and that hte turtles are the good guys. HIs actor does a great job and while not the biggest presence, he’s not a bad addition to clan hamaoto and I wish other adaptations would find a way to use him. The pull between doing the right thing and his found family is a good struggle. My only real issue with his plot is the moviies flawed aseop about family. It tries to contrast shredder and his using the kids blatnatly with Splinter and Charles really loving their sons. And it works with Splinter and the kids because despite being a tad strict, Splinter clearly loves his sons and works with them to help them. The problem is ENTIRELY with Charles and Danny. As I said Charles love comes off as transasctional: He either thinks he can buy it or just expects it because he shot a bunch of goop into Danny’s mom after two minutes of disapointment. It dosen’t work with them because neither option is good for Danny. His father is neglectful, chooses throwing his jounralistic integrity out the window over talking to his son or his best friend about another way, and abrasive. Danny is no saint, he does do crimes, but it’s clearly a result of a shitty upbringing and the shredder and co actually offeirng him the love he desperatly craves. Danny goes to the foot because his dad is bad at his job but the film never adresses that and just expects Danny to go back to his dad because the plot says so. Danny would HONESTLY be better off with Splinter. No really. Sure he’d have to live in the sewers.. but he did so for a few weeks in the course of the movie. He’s fine down there. Splitner actually cares about him and took an intrest to him and knows how to raise a child. Let him become the fifth turtle. An aseop about family is not a bad thing: Loaded subject that it can be given how many outright abusive families exist, i’m one of the lucky ones who dosen’t have that issue, family is an important thing and can be a source of comfort and support. But this film tells you you should love and respect someone who does not love, respect or value you because he spent a minute in your mom’s vagina and that’s not how family should work and is outright dangerous to kids in an abusive situation. Love the film otherwise but fuck this aseop skyhigh.
Final thoughts:
Overall though.. the film is bodacious. It’s funny, well paced, has an awesome cast, and outside of a certain bald asswipe... it’s a really good superhero film. Is it the best i’ve seen? Nope. Not even close and character wise most of them are as thin as a wet paper bag covered in ranch dressing. But it’s still a fun as hell with awesome corepgraphy, a killer soundtrack, seriously the soundtrack is damn excellent and only didn’t get it’s own section because I didn’t have enough to say and some of the best effects work i’ve seen in a film in the turtle suits. If you haven’t seen it I urge you to check it out: it’s a breezy 90 minutes, it’s on hbo max and it’s a shell of a time. Will I do the next film?
We’ll see how this one does like wise and such, but I will be doing the rise film whenever it comes out this year. So look for that and keep possesing turtle power my dudes. Colony of Gotham (3/7)
The Colony of Gotham is an urban legend that is whispered about in the dangerous city. It’s said the Colony is a family of demons and spirits that stalk the night, hunting for the souls of the guilty.
When Bruce became Batman, he’d never intended to be mistaken for a demon. He was happy to lean into it, though, and as he gained his partners – as his family grew – they all followed suit.
First Part ~ Previous Part ~ Next Part
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Duke Thomas lost his parents when Joker unleashed a new version of Joker Venom onto a crowd. While most of the infected were rounded up to be cured, some disappeared, Duke’s parents among them. The boy was determined to find them, no matter what it took, which landed him in trouble with both his foster parents and the law. Even when he was labeled a delinquent, though, he continued to search.
Meanwhile, a similar search came to its end.
Harper Row’s hunting had eventually led to her crossing paths with Batman. Despite her fear, she refused to back down under his warnings until her brother Cullen was attacked by some of his classmates while she was away on one of her searches.
Bruce, having been keeping an eye on the woman, stepped in to ensure they got justice for the attack and, in the process, helped her get custody of Cullen so they could both be free of their abusive father. In the face of all these changes and with Batman’s promise to find the other killer, Harper agreed to stand down.
However, Cass would find him first by taking a bullet for him after her father sent men to attack Harper and Cullen to draw her out.
Having expected a monster like Orphan, not this small child who stared up at her with the most apologetic eyes, Harper immediately forgave the girl and worked with Bruce and Batman to clear Cass’s name and take the girl under her wing. It was hard as Cass didn’t understand any language but body, but Harper and Cullen were willing to put in the work. In an effort to help, Bruce brought the Rows into the fold and promised any aid they could require.
Cullen was fascinated, but also happy to keep to the normal side of life. Bruce may have secretly wondered why the other children he found himself faced with couldn't be that level headed.
Harper, on the other hand, was more taken in, but also wary of getting too involved now that she had two people relying on her care. She went out sometimes in all black body armor with a full face mask and short hooded cloak, but she stayed out of sight enough that Black Bat remained an unknown myth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A trip to Los Angeles had Tim declaring he was never going with Bruce on business trips ever again. The first two days had been nice enough, but then Bruce caught him pulling an all-nighter working on a case that he wasn’t supposed to be working on and banned him from coffee.
Which was how a half-awake, phone focused Tim found himself nearly stepping out in front of traffic. Thankfully someone not dead on their feet spotted him in time and she pulled him back onto the sidewalk. He tried to laugh it off as just being too focused on his phone. That failed when he turned to walk away and almost immediately walked into a newspaper rack. The girl insisted on walking him to his hotel. When he pointed out he was going to pick up something from his father, she declared she’d walk him there and back.
When he returned back to Gotham with a new number in his phone, he refused to look her up. No, she was just some random civilian. He didn’t care if Wonder Girl doesn’t even wear a mask! Obviously that was her! A hoodie doesn’t help hide anything, Cassie! You and Kon are terrible! How do you two even have secret identities? At least Superman had those stupid glasses!
No, she was an ordinary civilian.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Duke Thomas’s search eventually ended when he teamed up with Batman to free his parents and the other missing Joker Venom victims from the Court of Owls, his photokinetic vision helping them navigate the labyrinthine tunnels. Unfortunately the Court’s experiments paired with going so long without the antidote had left the victims catatonic. Even still, Duke was so grateful that he did what he could to help Batman with his cases in the future.
Bruce, giving in to the inevitable even if he was wary to have a meta vigilante in Gotham, brought Duke into the Colony. There was some debate over how he’d fit in until Duke made it known that he would prefer getting some actual training before he went into the field for real.
This doesn’t stop Tim and Bette from glaring eachother down over who got to move on from Robin first.
Cass suggested settling it with a Mario Kart race.
Tim won.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One day Jinny “Hex” Woodson got fed up with all her friends discussing their Gotham friends -- ones she was pretty sure none of them were even allowed to have since no one was even supposed to go to Gotham -- so she packed a bag and headed out to find her own Gotham friend.
She decided the place was alright enough. It was actually kind of nice that no one questioned her for having a pair of pistols holstered on her hips. Someone even tried to mug her despite them.
It was hilarious.
She was having trouble finding her new Gotham friend, though. At least until a kid fell off a fire escape she’d been passing under and into her arms.
It was fate.
Apparently the kid had been trying to take a picture of a bird (aka Tim was scouting for a stakeout) and the railing hadn’t been quite as sturdy as he’d thought (it had only let him balance on it in a crouch for two hours before giving way). It was then that he noticed her guns.
“You’re not going to shoot me, right?”
“Angel, you’re so skinny, you can't even see your shadow. I don’t need my guns to whup you.”
“Angel?”
“Because you fell from heaven.”
Tim was not amused. He was even less amused when she declared they were friends now. No, he doesn’t get an opinion on the matter. Should have thought about that before throwing himself at unsuspecting women. She doesn’t even swing that way, Angel.
Around the same time that it hit the Young Justice team that they were all friends with the same Gothamite, it also hit the Colony that Tim had somehow managed to befriend the entire team.
Except no, Tim affirmed that they befriended him. He had no input in this whatsoever, thank you very much. It was probably Kon’s fault, really. He had probably set it all up. Tim was definitely going to give Kon the cold shoulder.
At least until his badgering got too annoying.
The worst part was that Stephanie stole his phone to get Cassie’s number when she found out she and Tim had been flirting. She stated it was so Stephanie could defend his honor if she tried something, but he caught both her and Bette in a group chat with not only Cassie, but Kara Danvers aka Supergirl and Suzanne “Cissie” King-Jones aka Arrowette.
Apparently, they didn’t get to be teased since the girls actively sought out their super friends.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Talia al Ghul personally informed her that the Heir to the Demon was now living with his biological father Bruce Wayne so she would be wise to keep her distance from Gotham, sister or not, Cheshire knew she’d made the right call keeping her nose out of the Waynes’ business.
It didn’t occur to her that when Talia al Ghul had met Bruce Wayne over ten years earlier at a party and decided to spend the night with him, the woman believed he’d given up his training to settle down for a life of luxury and frivolities. Cheshire didn’t know Ra’s had only allowed Talia to keep the child that had been an accidental result because he’d seen Bruce’s promise and believed, if raised properly, the child could become what he thought Bruce hadn’t.
That Talia had only brought her son to his father because she had no other choice.
The Demon’s Daughter fled to Gotham with Damian after her father was killed by Slade Wilson. She had hoped that between Bruce’s former training and the shadowy Colony of Gotham, Damian would be safe until Wilson could be dealt with.
Damian did not get along with his siblings. He made an attempt to pick a fight with Tim that failed when Tim refused to fight a child. Cass tried to fight him in Tim’s place, but Harper told her no. Damian tried to stab Dick when he hugged him and Dick disarmed him before he could without releasing the hug. He picked a fight with Jason and got his butt handed to him. Damian snuck out to prove himself, picked a fight with Nightwing, and got his butt kicked. Damian tried his hand with Tim again and the older boy, annoyed, agreed then used knockout gas on him the moment the fight began. Dick tried to talk with Damian and they ended up fighting. Damian, of course, got his butt kicked.
Stephanie was standing on the sidelines the entire time, encouraging everything.
Soon enough the Colony noticed Slade holed up near Gotham and launched an attack. Due to the danger, Bruce pulled in everyone, leaving the Robins and Alfred to keep an eye on Damian, Duke, Cullen, and Cass in the manor while Catwoman took guard outside. When Damian found out about the attack and tried to go after Slade, Tim sent him in the opposite direction then followed after him in the suit he’d been designing for post-Robin while the others took shelter in the cave.
Tim knocked Damian out and dragged him back to the cave where they locked him in a cell, to Bruce’s annoyance. Damian woke up and realized his father was Batman when he overheard Bruce reveal that Talia was likely coming back for Damian now that Slade was taken down. He also heard the family’s argument over it. None of them wanted him to go with her, but in the end they agreed that it was Damian’s choice.
When she did come, Damian remembered what the others said about him having a choice and some things about family Dick had said when the two had had their private conversation. He decided to stay with them, citing that there were things his father could teach him that he couldn’t learn while helping his mother rebuild the League.
She was obviously annoyed and disappointed, but didn’t fight him on it.
It wasn’t easy. Damian still fought with all his brothers as well as Stephanie, though Duke did his best to keep out of it. The youngest Wayne tried to challenge Tim and Bette for his place as Robin, but Dick and Bruce were able to get him to agree to training instead with the reminder that he was lacking the theatrical and teamwork skills that the Colony utilized and were mandatory as Robin.
Bruce didn’t mention that he wanted more reassurance the boy wouldn’t step over the line before ever letting him near the field.
Damian was not impressed when he discovered his father’s relationship with Selina Kyle and made it well known.
She thought it was adorable.
Damian would never admit that the kitten she gifted him was what calmed him. He simply didn’t see the point in wasting any energy on outwardly disliking the woman when his father clearly wouldn’t be changing his mind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Duke took Tim’s place as Robin, he made sure to keep his own contributions to the role quiet. Robin was a legacy while his meta abilities were not. Tim was not quite so subtle in his new role.
No one was sure where the name Corvid came from since the new bird didn’t speak in words, only trills. He wore an armored suit that was blue on the chest and arms and black on his sides with white detailing. His legs, hands, and feet were all black as well except for the blue splashes on the outside of his thighs. A white belt draped over his hips while black bandoliers crossed over his chest, a silver and black bird logo covering the cross. The bandoliers connected to his cowl, which was open at the top unlike the Bats’ which allowed his feather-like hair to fall down around his face. It was shoulder length and faded from black at the roots to blue at the tips, much like the wings that formed from his feathered cape.
They said he was a fallen star stolen away by the Colony. He soared soundlessly through the air on wings that never flapped, leaving behind a trail of blue light. He was more migratory than the others. Sometimes he flew above Batman and Robin, sometimes Batwoman and Red Hood, and sometimes Batgirl and Nightwing. A criminal could only hope they got the warning of seeing one of the others first or he’d have them in his talons hundreds of feet in the air before they even realized he was there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time passed. Damian grew closer to the rest of the Colony under Dick’s instruction.
Jason and Kate bonded with him over their more aggressive styles (to Bruce’s consternation) while helping him learn ways to calm his temper.
Despite their rough start and continuing antagonism, Damian grew to respect Tim’s quick mind as he tutored him in strategy and the Colony’s language.
He also developed a respect that had nothing to do with fear -- not at all -- for Barbara after she repaid an insult he gave her by sharing with the entire family a video of him fawning over some stray kittens in the park. He never discovered how she got the footage as he had made sure there were no cameras in the vicinity before acting in such an undignified fashion. (It was Dick. He pouted for weeks when he realized the cute video he took of his adorable baby brother was used for such purposes.)
A similar kind of respect grew for Harper as he quickly learned to be noticeable when approaching her. She had far too much experience with bats and birds sneaking around and far too little concern over jabbing them with a stun gun in revenge, whether they meant to scare her or not.
He was not afraid to admit he was scared of Cass once he realized who she was, though. He knew her skills and knew she could take him down in seconds if it came to it.
He was skeptical of both Stephanie and Bette, who he believed to be vapid, but Stephanie’s pranks were amusing when they weren’t directed at him and Bette introduced him to social media revolving around animal rights (and cute animal pictures).
Although he was rather dull, Cullen was by far the best person to be with while working on his newfound appreciation for drawing and painting, especially if the older boy was doing his own artwork for the webcomics he and Duke collaborated on.
While not being the most mentally or physically skilled, Duke was the most patient of the lot and could be trusted to keep his mouth shut so he was the one Damian went to when he needed assistance with homework (a rare occurrence, but the American schooling system was so different from his League tutors, to the point that sometimes they even seemed to contradict one another) or wanted to practice his Trillic.
Though he would never admit it out loud, Dick was Damian’s favorite of the lot. While he didn’t have Duke’s patience, he was just as considerate and confidential. When something happened, Dick was always willing to hear him out and talk him through it until he understood. Or at least was on the path to understanding. Dick did not share Jason’s anger, his father’s suspicion, Tim’s caution, or Duke’s anxiety. He had only sympathy. Damian knew his mother would consider Dick weak, but he couldn’t bring himself to care.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a year in Gotham came and went, Dick went to Duke and Bette. The three talked, eventually bringing in Harper as an idea began to blossom.
Robin had a sword. They said he got it from his shadow.
The only thing not pitch black on the Black Bat was the thin golden outline of the Bat’s symbol on their chest. Their face was featureless, not even possessing eyes like Batgirl. They never made a sound. If you saw Robin, then his shadow was behind you.
There was no time to run.
On the other hand, those who believed themselves safe during the day proved to be foolish.
Bright spirits had come to Gotham.
They wore metal armor and carried their wings on their chests. They came and went in flashes of light bright enough to stun.
Bluebird was their guide and donned armor of blue. Her voice echoed with the voices of lost souls and lightning danced across her form.
Lark was their prophet and donned armor of gold. He could see the past, present, and future and fought with the strength of ages past.
Hawkfire was their messenger and donned armor of red. She spoke with the voices of everyone she passed and her armor blazed with the heat of the sun.
Though they walked the day and seemed to be creatures of light, it was nothing but a trick. They were will-o'-wisps, false lights. They were birds.
The Colony had invaded the day.
With the three working together, Bette offered to turn Duke and Harper. The two accepted. Afterwards Harper sought out Cullen and Cass to offer them the same. She wasn’t surprised with Cass’s easy agreement, though Cullen’s was a little more shocking as he’d never shown any interest in the Colony’s nightlife. Quite the opposite, in fact. He simply shrugged and told her vampirism had nothing to do with the nightlife. It was just how their family worked.
He and Cass were greatly amused, but unsurprised when Harper, Bette, and Duke forgot to mention the latest turnings. They decided to keep their own mouths shut to see how long it would last, though he did confide in Alfred. Not that it was necessary as the man seemed to put it together himself the moment he saw Cullen.
It took three months for Bruce, Tim, and Barbara to figure it out for themselves, then an additional two for the rest to find out when Duke casually mentioned it during a family meeting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Damian blamed Tim when he found himself stuck in a room with Superman’s spawn Jonathan Kent while said superhero in disguise interviewed Damian’s father for the newspaper.
Clearly, Tim’s horrible curse had somehow rubbed off on Damian and the older boy would pay dearly once he returned home by way of Damian renaming all of Tim’s non-case related computer folders and creating a maze of invisible thread around his room.
At least the half-alien had good taste in video games. And his voice was nice enough that his incessant chatter was more like a soothing white noise than a nuisance. And Superman clearly would have trained Jon in discretion, even if not to Damian’s family’s standards.
For the record, the only reason Damian accepted Jon’s number was so that Dick would be so pleased Damian had finally acquired a friend that he wouldn’t allow the others to tease him over something that was clearly Tim’s fault to begin with. And when that plot fell through, he simply forgot to delete Jon’s number because he was busy expanding his revenge to include Jason and Stephanie.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Harper, as Black Bat, wore Cass's Orphan suit from Young Justice. I wanted something a little more lowkey from what she normally wears since she's not really supposed to be spotted.
Tim's suit got the most reworking because I like and dislike elements from all his Red Robin suits. The end result is one with the body armor from his Young Justice (TV) Robin suit, but with the New 52 wings paired with the bandoliers, logo, and cowl from the original Red Robin suit. Except I left the cowl open on top like the ones Kid Flash and Impulse use. From there you replace the red with blue and the yellow with white. I honestly wish I was better at drawing so that I could give a visual of what I'm going for here.
Cass's Black Bat suit is her Batgirl one, just with her belt black instead.
Haper, Bette, and Duke wear Signal's armor as Bluebird, Hawkfire, and Lark, just in blue, red, and gold instead of yellow. The bat logo is also replaced with their individualized bird logos.
Vampires’ animal forms:
Duke: Cape wild dog
Harper: Maned wolf
Cullen: Crab-eating fox
Cass: Northern bat

❍❍❍ TV FILM ❍❍❍
The first television shows were experimental, sporadic programs that from the 1930s could only be seen at a very short distance from the mast. TV events such as the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany, the crowning of King George VI. In Britain in 19340 and the famous launch of David Sarnoff at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in the United States, the medium grew, but World War II brought development to a halt after the war. The 19440 World MOVIE inspired many Americans to buy their first television, and in 1948 the popular Texaco Star Theater radio moved to become the first weekly television variety show that hosted Milton Berle and earned the name “Mr Television” demonstrated The medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment that could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the United States took place on September 4, 1951, when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco on AT & T’s transcontinental cable and microwave relay system was broadcasting to broadcasters in local markets has been. The first national color show (the 1954 Rose Parade tournament) in the United States took place on January 1, 1954. For the next ten years, most network broadcasts and almost all local broadcasts continued to be broadcast in black and white. A color transition was announced for autumn 1965, in which more than half of all network prime time programs were broadcast in color. The first all-color peak season came just a year later. In 19402, the last holdout of daytime network shows was converted to the first full color network season. Related Article
L'HISTOIRE SANS FINESSE Godzilla vs Kong

Joker (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
The beautifully haunting music from one of this year’s best films is a definite must-have. Hildur Guðnadóttir gives us a powerful and memorable score that is somber and chilling, fitting the bleakness of Arthur’s world, but which also ramps up during the film’s bursts of action. Together, this music helps to emphasize Arthur’s misery as well as his broken dreams – not to mention, provide a fascinating accompaniment to Phoenix’s strange and almost balletic dancing.

this is one of the nuttiest weeks in comics in awhile, what're you pulling and what are your thoughts?
Having missed Daredevil, Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt, and The Wild Storm for now, a situation hopefully to be rectified this weekend, and knowing there are profound spoilers ahead:
Superman: Leviathan Rising #1: SUPERMAN AND JIMMY OLSEN, OUR FAVORITE GOOD TIME PARTY BOYS. This was the embodiment of ‘inject it into my veins’ comics, even with that disconnected, pointless Supergirl section, which still at least assured me that I’m not missing out on anything in her book right now. Otherwise? Superman sucks at acting, because acting is lying! Lois giving Batman the business! 4-QQ&BE4J*O(@NX!
Heroes in Crisis #9: This…ended about as well as it possibly could, I suppose, and I do actually mean that as a compliment, but that only matters so much. I probably actually did like more individual issues of this than I disliked, but the basic concept behind the mystery once it unfolds is a needlessly destructive one for the character in question, King’s dialogue quirks ran away with him, the pacing was shot, Mann showed his ass in some rough ways, and so much of it reads like King completing a mandate. There were moments of grace - the final page of confessionals has the funniest panel of King’s career - that mean I’ll absolutely reread this at some point, but on the whole, it can at last be set in stone that this was Tom King’s first and hopefully last major failure.
Detective Comics Annual #2: Haven’t been getting Tomasi’s Detective, but the preview made it look like it was going to be his best effort in some time. It was, but not enough for me to be interested in the arc this is setting up for down the line.
Fantastic Four #10: I really thought I’d drop this after the first tepid arc, but while I’m ditching Iron Man, Slott’s been acquitting himself admirably here recently, and Paco Medina’s art is always a treat.
Thor #13: There’s little in this issue that isn’t rote and obvious, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good as hell.
War of the Realms: War Scrolls #2: There’s a panel in the first part where Daredevil’s legs are hella weird, but the Strange story was nice and that Loki/Wiccan/Hulkling story that’s been taking the internet by storm was indeed pretty nice.
The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #3: This doesn’t have the spark that Ahmed’s work right now on Miles possesses - I’m not even positive I’ll finish this first arc - but it’s a decently charming page-turner and I could see it ending up grabbing me down the line.
The Immortal Hulk #18: It’s genuinely astonishing that this is still capable of freaking me the fuck out, but good goddamn.
Doomsday Clock #10: As I said on Twitter, this was the dopiest, most lowest-common-denominator fanboy-pandering shit in the world, and let me tell you: I’m that lowest common denominator, babeyyyy. Is it good now? Far from it. But it’s becoming almost exactly the comic I feel like it probably should have been all along, and not even just because it’s basically 30 pages of big daddy Geoff petting my head and whispering “shh, shh, it’s okay, your favorite character is still the most important and always will be no matter how bad we fuck up, we promise Morrison Action still kinda matters, shhhhhh”. It’s to its weird credit that the issue that was definitely 100% conceived as ‘the continuity dump’ ends up the only one that says much of substance about anything, even if it’s just that Superman’s important; the book should have been meta all along, and now it’s straight-up calling the main DCU the Metaverse in reference to how it’s always changing in reference to our own real world. And this definitely has the most moments of odd magic previous issues sporadically managed of classic, goofy and/or corny superhero moments taking on an almost totemic degree of weight and power in this bizarre context. Just have Manhattan in some way acknowledge how Superman fundamentally affected his own world too, and I’ll be able to rest easy that this lovely abomination lived up to his full potential in the context of being a dopey Geoff Johns comic.
(My unearned enthusiasm aside though: I don’t think it’s really come up in Doomsday Clock criticism that I’ve seen, but it should probably be talked about that it shares big daddy Watchmen’s I *think* well-meaning but regardless unpleasant relationship with queerness. And Watchmen’s issues, while present, are illuminated by time: my impression was that by 80s cape comics standards it was majorly progressive. Doomsday Clock…clearly doesn’t mean any harm, but actually comes up notably shorter than even its predecessor? While also making its queerness much more important to the plot than Watchmen ever did yet not really doing anything with that but using it as a delivery mechanism for Plot, the latter in this issue coming fundamentally bundled with what makes the former uncomfortable? However you slice it, this is a comic where gay and trans people exist, but only a long time ago as something that was shamed, however much the story frames that as a bad thing. And on a related note: is Carver Coleman supposed to be a George Reeves analogue of sorts? Co-star of the Superman-centric issue, bad relationship with his mother, died under mysterious circumstances in the 50s? Perhaps it’ll be clearer when that thread wraps up; maybe I’m the dope, but I still haven’t picked up on the thematic significance of his story or Nathaniel Dusk’s yet.)
Batman: Last Knight on Earth #1: So on top of everything else, it is buck wild that Snyder and Capullo’s take on the final Batman story isn’t a disconnected-from-continuity, archetypal, ‘timeless’ tale like All-Star Superman or The Dark Knight Returns, but explicitly a bad ending AU for Snyder’s own current Justice League run. What matters more than where it’s situated though is what it is: in the words of Mark Stack, this book is a chainsaw. It kicks off with what seems the prelude to the sort of traditional ending this isn’t, swerves into the dumb memey version that everyone on the internet has seen (including clearly the creators of this comic) which Batman defeats, and then it stands revealed in truth as the MOST Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo version of a last Batman adventure imaginable. It’s clones and purple super lightning and toytowns and mad alien light babies and Joker’s head in a jar telling dirty rhymes (easily Snyder’s best take on him to date) and a wayfaring quest to save a world that’s chosen to die, and this is the prelude. I couldn’t be more into it, especially as the ample production time and physical space gives this a much more assured pace than Snyder’s had anywhere else in recent memory, and I could honestly imagine this ending up as my favorite out of the pair’s Batman joints by the time it’s through, the ultimate distillation of their take on him and their joint aesthetic.
Also, unlikely as it is, I think there is a better than zero chance that Omega is Jarro. A mind-controlling disciple of Batman in a story spinning out of current Justice League? Would that really, really be too weird to fit, nevermind that making Starro the final villain of the DCU he in a very real way created?

Yeah it's the same anon 💜 dude my apologies for the amount of crap I've spewed in your ask box but in my defense no one I know gives a shit about batfam or gotham rogues or Alfred (I've gushed here about alfreds fabulousness too opps) anndd I partly blame you for me falling back into the titans trap cuz s1 was meh I forgot I even watched s2 😅 then I seen some titans stuff on your blog and boom my brain latched onto it and now here I am experiencing maternal fear for my son jason 😢you are 1000% right this jason is PERFECTION as robin like actual perfection I dunno why but I thought this robin was like 16? So I was thinkin how tf is 16/17 yo supposed to be redhood!? It work in comics/cartoon but live action 16 y/o redhood seems meh I kinda want the lazarus pit just I freakin want TALIA but I don't think that's gonna happen I dunno
Tbh (this may be biased) but I think the Gotham tv show is literally the best dc comics adaptation of anything ever! it is superior to all thier shows movies animations and the arrowverse at least in my books lol
Tumblr is my only form of 'social media' and I don't keep up with updates or anything about shows cuz I like to pretend the fiction is real and I don't want reality wrecking that for me like hahahaa so I had no clue about timmy or babs but I'm so happy
DUDE YES this is literally the only time I can see bruce ever killing the joker on screen aww please I want it so bad I mean they probably won't but they should cuz this is the only capacity in which batman can kill the joker live action like if down the line somewhere on another show/movie bruce killed joker he prob wouldn't be dead dead or they'd bring him back some way so the kill wouldn't even matter but old bruce killing the joker because he's finally had enough he's old now, jasons death finished him and he's not gonna be batman anymore it's a nice end for batman and the joker, it's the only way we'll ever get this end cuz like you said they'll never have the balls to permanently kill joker any other way in live action everything is aligning perfectly for this to happen so dang dc just freakin let it happen c'mon
Yo whose your first fav rogue? Is it riddler? I feel like mines riddler haven't really thought much about whose my fav gotham rogue but I'd probably say riddler, I prefer the central city rogues but the Gotham rogues are just pure chaos and I'm living for that hahaa
I'd rather superheros/vigilantes/villians in live action not have relationship drama just put them in a relationship or dont like I came for the action and weird super shit not the ordinary relationship drama thankfully titans seem to be doing okay in this aspect I do quite like dickkory a lot but I mean in the supergirl show ughhh I was like I came here for the flying and the dope laser eyes I don't give a shit about her getting a boyfriend like seriously whyyy
My brain decides to jump about obsessing over characters like one week Kory is my wife next week detective grayson is my husband and I AM NIGHTWING then my brain is like no Barbara kean is wifey just basically fictionally I'm married to everyone 😅
Yikes this was so long sorry girl
Omg, pls don't apologize! I get so dang excited whenever i get an ask, yours always make my day, you don't even know! Like same about no one i know caring about dc/batfam! And talking to someone about it is so much better than yelling into the wind here on a text post that no one reads xD Don't stop sending your asks whenever you wanna dump your feels/talk about dc/batfam omg.
And Im so proud I got you into this Titans spiral xD My work here is done hahahaha. But yes, I feel like his looking so young for red hood over shadows how great his jason robin performance was! Love seeing him get that recognition! But yeah, the age is def off, like I cant remember how old they said he was in the show, maybe 16? but too young for red hood in live action form. Like its hard cause in reality 16 year olds and 19 year old boys typically don't look too different, for the most part, while comics you can get get away with it more. Huh, yeah, it doesn't seem like Talia is gonna happen, maybe just maybe a cameo or something? Cause we also weren't expecting joker but here we are(tho it almost looks like he wont be a big plot point/even see him much, it almost looks like it is just showing how brutal gotham is? But like its just the trailer and doesnt always give the full picture so who knows!)
Omg YES about Gotham! I 1000% agree! Im also biased cause its what got me into batman, again like exactly a year ago! It got me into the world like no other media of dc had before!(well, Shazam did, i guess tech thats the start of my interest in dc/first time i read the comics, but gotham is what really got me into this spiral). I hate how much hate it gets, like yeah its not perfect and they took creative liberties obviously, but i 100% agree that its the best adoption of DC yet! 100%! Its so nice to see the characters and rogues fleshed out more. I feel like it successfully did what Nolan tried to do in terms of making it dark and realistic, but in a way that was more accurate and true to the comics! I wish it wasn’t canceled so early and thus the last season had to be so rushed :(
thats smart, i typically dont look for spoilers and stuff anymore but I just got so hyper focused that I had to look at least what the stars were putting out on social media, but yeah, i use to get so caught up in all that that it took the fun out of seeing it live.
Oh my gosh, that would seriously be the PERFECT end to batman and joker story in this universe omg. Amen about all that! And like it would hopefully show Jason how much he cares? So maybe Bruce would kill him after red hood emerges? It will be interesting to see hat causes Jason to be so dang pissed in this version.
ahaha yes riddler is my fav! (my header gave it away didn’t it xD) I love most Riddlers but ESPECIALLY gotham riddler, Ed is like one of my fav character of all time. Oooh, I don’t know central city rogues all that well(well, way more than Metropolis rogues, I know so little about superman world), like I know some from the first 3 and a half seasons of the flash (I watched a couple years ago but got busy with school and couldn’t keep up and just never caught up/didnt have motivation to finish(plus i forgot so much id have to rewatch everything again), but I saw they finally just introduced Bart Allen, so I have have to randomly jump back in for a bit cause Bart is one of my favsss), and the ones in the cartoons and stuff
Ha! true, i dont mind it when its for character development or if I happen to be super into the ship(like Nygmakins in Gotham omg, I know they are super unpopular but they are like one of my OTPs omg), I feel like it has to be balanced right/not too much focus on the drama of the relationship over everything else. Like a minor subplot is good but don’t make it the focus of the show. And yeah , supergirl never appealed to me cause of that reason! i like drama and not JUST action (I like psychological drama, as long as there is comfort to follow xD) but yea i get what u mean by too much relationship focus . I think, for the most part, Gotham did that pretty well.
omg i love the disaster bi vibes you are giving off xD But omg I feel the jumping around thing so much ahaha. Like right now the 4 robins are constantly on rotation on who I’m obsessing over at the moment tbh xD
Omg mine responses are just as long, don’t apologize!!!! <333333333333333

Clarke and the Holograms! Girl band AU. Grounder Misfits? ALLIE is Synergy?? Whatever you think is fun! Some Bellarke thrown in is always welcome. :) The current comic reboot is epic and has a good wiki. Thank you!
Bellamy’s in the girl band, because that’s his jam.
Sometimes, just sometimes, Clarke will take a step back and really think about her life, and when she does that, she will admit that her life is, well, weird. Like when her best friend’s little sister’s girlfriend shows up at her foster home out of nowhere with a sob story about her bandmates discovering her secret relationship. That’s not something most people have to deal with, like, ever.
“They kicked you out of the band?” Bellamy asks Niylah. He has his arms crossed over his chest, a deeply unimpressed frown on his face.
“They didn’t kick me out,” she says. “They strongly advised me to reconsider my personal relationships and my future with the band.”
“How is that not kicking you out of the band?”
Niylah shrugs one shoulder. “They haven’t actually kicked me out yet. I’m on probation.”
“Yeah, but–just for dating O?”
“You’re the enemy,” she says, and that’s a large part of the weirdness. They have enemies. Not just rivals, actual enemies, people who are invested enough in their perceived differences that they’re actively trying to sabotage them. And part of her gets it; between album sales and stocks in Griffin Media, there’s a lot of money at stake here.
But at the same time, they are, at heart, having an argument about whose computer has the best graphics card and autotune. It is serious business, but it’s just kind of–ridiculous.
“No one here is your enemy, Niylah,” says Clarke, making her voice gentle. “Just because some of the Sky People live here–”
“Everyone but the mysterious lead singer,” says Niylah. “Or so you claim.”
“She’s got a secret identity,” says Bellamy, with a shrug. “She could be anywhere.”
In a way, the most bizarre thing about Clarke’s life is that no one seems to suspect she’s the band’s lead singer. She’d be offended, if she wasn’t actively incognito, but, seriously, one time Finn said it couldn’t be her because the lead singer was way too much fun.
So her cover is working, but it does kind of suck. She’s a world famous pop sensation, and no one even knows.
“You have a place to stay, right?” Octavia asks Niylah, all concern. She hasn’t dated anyone since Lincoln, and it’s kind of surreal seeing her with someone new. But in a nice way. Clarke likes when her friends are happy.
Niylah nods. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
“If you need a place to stay—“
“Let’s not get carried away,” says Bellamy. When Octavia glares at him, he just shrugs. “Like she said, we’re the enemy. How do we know this isn’t a trap?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Bell.”
Clarke wants to agree with her, but unfortunately, she’s on Bellamy’s side. It’s unfortunate only because, again, this is her life. This could plausibly all be a Grounder scheme to get eyes on the house, and she really wishes she didn’t have to think that.
“If Niylah needs a place to stay, we’ll help her find one,” she says, firm. “But it might not be here. We’re full,” she adds, before Octavia can protest. “Sorry.”
The two of them take off, and Clarke drops her head onto Bellamy’s shoulder. She’d say he’s been invaluable since her father died and left her the foster home, but he was invaluable long before that. The Blakes were some of the first kids Jake took in after he opened up Sky Home, and even if it took them a little while to warm to each other, she and Bellamy have been looking out for each other for almost that long.
“Did you ever think we’d end up like this?” she asks.
“Which part?”
“Any of it.”
“I thought you or I would take over the foster home someday,” he muses. “But the technologically enhanced rockstar thing is definitely a surprise.”
Clarke has to smile. “Yeah, none of us saw that coming. You think Octavia’s going to be okay?”
“She’ll be fine. Niylah too.” He gives her shoulder a squeeze. “You will be too.”
“Who says I’m not fine?”
“All the bags under your eyes.”
“Good thing I’ve got a holographic disguise so none of our fans will ever know.”
He snorts. “Yeah, that’s the good part. I’ve got to go check on dinner. Practice later?”
When he stands, she instantly misses the warmth of him by her side, but she can’t say that. They’re friends.Friends don’t tell friends they want to snuggle more.
Instead, she just says, “Yeah, see you later,” and watches him go.
*
Before she assumed an alternate persona as a glamorous rock star on the weekend, Clarke was dating Finn Collins and feeling slightly guilty about it. She liked him, but he’d been dating Raven before he started dating her, and even though he broke up with Raven, it never quite sat right with her.
As Bellamy put it, saying I couldn’t be with her when I liked you so much is the kind of thing people is romantic, but is actually kind of a red flag. But Clarke had liked him, and Raven told her to go for it, and it wasn’t like they were getting married, so she figured she could give it a shot.
But apparently, he likes Princess better than he liked Clarke. Not that he’s alone in that; her alternate persona is a lot more popular than she is. But it’s most awkward with Finn, who decided that, as with Raven and Clarke before, he can’t date Clarke while he feels this way about Princess, and dumped her.
There’s a version of the story with a happy ending, the one where Lois Lane realizes Clark Kent and Superman are the same person and she can have both, but Clarke’s not interested in that story, not when Finn has made it clear how much her prefers the famous version of her. He’s not conflicted; his mind is made up. Hers is too.
“We could get dinner sometime,” he’s telling her, after their show. “I could show you the town.”
“I don’t consume food,” she says. They’re trying out making people think she’s actually some kind of robot, which is kind of fun. “Where’s your girlfriend? What happened to her?”
“Who said anything about a girlfriend?”
“Bellamy.”
It seemed like the simplest solution, after a month of pretending Princess didn’t know a thing about Finn. Bellamy’s part of the band, has seen them together, and knows Finn is or was Clarke’s girlfriend. If they were different people, he would have told Princess about Clarke, and Princess needs an excuse to dislike him.
Finn huffs, rolls his eyes. “He never gets tired of ruining my life.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” she asks, sounding more like herself than Princess. She reminds herself to smile, giggle. “Bellamy’s great.”
“I used to be dating a friend of his,” he says. “He’s got a thing for her, he’s never forgiven me for dating her. Even though we’re broken up now, the guy can hold a grudge. But they grew up together, they’re like siblings.” He frowns, suddenly. “Wait, you must know Clarke.”
A part of her brain is stuck on the number of stupid things he said back there, but the rest of it recognizes the opening he’s given her for the blessing that it is.
“Oh, you’re Clarke’s ex. And Raven’s! I can’t believe I didn’t make the connection. I’ve heard so much about you.”
The color is draining from his face. “That’s–”
“We’re done here,” she says. “You used your chance with us with Clarke, and you blew it.”
“Princess, please–” he starts, and when she glares, he rethinks what he was going to say. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone.”
“If you’re always finding you’ve never felt about someone else the way you feel about your girlfriends, you should take a break from dating for a while. Think about what you really want. We’re done here,” she says again, and leaves before he can protest further.
She’s on her way to Bellamy when someone else says, “Princess!” and she turns to see Lexa.
Lexa’s another one of those in a different life people. Clarke likes her, likes her intelligence and ambition, her talent and drive. But they’re rivals, enemies even, and Lexa hates Princess and doesn’t know Clarke exists, and Clarke would have trouble getting over how Lexa and her band are literally trying to take money that she wants to help orphans. They’re not trying to be cartoon supervillains, probably haven’t thought about it in those exact terms, but Clarke can’t forget.
Still, they’re colleagues, sort of. “Lexa. How may I help you?”
“What are you playing at?”
“Music,” she says, after a moment of consideration.
Her scowl deepens. “Your bass player is dating my drummer.”
“I don’t see what that has to do with me.”
“If you’re trying to use this to get information–”
Clarke sighs. She’s tired and grumpy and feels as if she’s dealing with every stupid romantic problem in the book, with absolutely no romance in her own life. All she wants to do is find Bellamy, tell him about Finn, and let him know, in case he’s ever wondered, that she’s never thought of him as a brother.
She assumes Finn is mostly full of shit, but if he’s not, she wouldn’t mind finding out.
“I don’t need information about you. If we’re competing, there’s only one way I want to win: by being better than you. No tricks, no mind games. Just talent.”
Her mouth tugs up at one side, grudging. “How novel.”
Clarke shrugs. “It seemed easier than that all this subterfuge,” she says. “Don’t kick Niylah out of the band for getting a girlfriend. That wouldn’t play well.”
“No. Does your bassist like her?”
“She seems to.”
Lexa nods. “Then I’m glad. May the best band win.”
It’s an easy sentiment to return. “May the best band win.”
*
She doesn’t manage to find Bellamy in private until the next morning. He’s in the kitchen at the house, making breakfast for everyone, and Clarke lets herself just look at him. Dating within the band is probably, on some level, a bad idea, but she’s not really in the band, is she? And if Bellamy wants to date her, she’ll want to date her, not Princess.
And if he wants to date her, she’d really like to know.
“I got to tell Finn that Princess would never date him,” she says, leaning against the counter next to him.
“Yeah? Awesome. How?”
“I asked him about his ex-girlfriend, he said it was me, I got to pretend I didn’t know he was the same Finn who broke up with Raven and Clarke and tell him we were through once I figured it out.”
“Yeah, that checks out. Congrats.”
He’s poking at the eggs in a very pointed way, making her smile. She has always wondered, if he might–
It’s hard, to think about making a move on someone who’s so important to her. Without Bellamy, her whole world falls apart. But it’s so much harder to think of never saying anything. Of never knowing.
“I told him you warned me.”
“Yeah, I probably would have.”
“Finn thought you were trying to ruin his life.”
“I’d probably do that too, but I don’t really think he needs the help.”
She bites her lip. “He says you don’t have a chance with me because we’re like brother and sister.”
Finally, Bellamy falters, hand stilling as he moves the pan, but just for a second. “Sounds like a lot of shitty assumptions in there.”
“Yeah, I’m not sure he’s ever been more wrong about anything.”
Another pause, and then he turns off the burner, moves the eggs off the heat, and looks at her. “Wrong about everything?” he asks. He’s wearing his pajamas and his glasses, and he doesn’t look a thing like the guitarist for a wildly popular band.
Then again, she looks even less like their lead singer. But this is them, the real them. This is the way she wants to be loved, quietly, in the morning, with eggs on the stove and no fame or fortune.
This is what she wants.
“Absolutely everything,” she says. “You’re not my brother, and you–”
He moves in before she can finish, pressing her up against the counter, the kiss hot and solid, like he’s afraid the sentence won’t end how he wants it to, and Clarke winds her arms around his neck and pulls him closer, opening his mouth for him, and the soft noise that escapes from the back of his throat is the best thing she’s ever heard.
When Madi interrupts them, she’s on the counter with her legs wrapped around his waist, his mouth pressing messy kisses against her neck, no more words between them but no questions either. Bellamy wouldn’t be doing this if he didn’t love her, and she wouldn’t if she didn’t feel the same.
“So, we’re making our own breakfasts today?” Madi asks, and the two of them jump apart, coming back to themselves. Bellamy stares at her, glasses askew, and when she smiles, he grins.
“If you wait a minute, I’ll finish the eggs,” he tells Madi.
“You looked pretty busy.”
Bellamy glances at her, still smiling, as he goes back to the stove. “Nothing that won’t keep, right?”
Clarke gives Madi’s hair a ruffle as she goes to the coffee pot. “Yeah. I think we’ve got time.”
*
“I think we’re all wondering, any romance between the two most eligible members of Sky People?” asks the reporter, grinning at Bellamy and Clarke.
Well, Bellamy and Princess. Clarke’s not here. That’s the whole point of the disguise.
“Ever since we found out about Octavia and Niylah from Grounders, I think we’ve been wondering who’s next. And the two of you are clearly very close.”
Bellamy glances at her, and then shrugs. “Don’t get me wrong, Princess is great. But I’ve actually got a girlfriend.”
The reporter looks genuinely surprised. “I haven’t heard anything about it. Who is she? Another musician? Or–”
“No one you’ve heard of,” he says. “No one famous.”
“And what about you, Princess? Any new suitors on the horizon? Boyfriends, girlfriends?”
“No,” she says. “I’m not really looking right now.”
“No?”
Her smile is completely genuine, aside from the way it’s partially holographic. “Nope. I’m all set.”

i know this isn't how the meme works, but would you mind talking about *your* favs?
the batsammi. MY faves? Like, my favorite blogs that I would follow until my dying breath? Sure! Let's limit it to about... ten okay? So, if you're left out of this list, don't feel discouraged! This is just the first ten to come to mind!
@xdemondrinker / @deathsdesiign Sam. Sam is the Superman to my Batman. We've been friends for almost 5 years? 6 years? God, I don't even know anymore. We talk every day and I'm always blown away by someone who's gone through so much, but is still so kind and full of creativity. If you're not following Sam, you're missing out on some hella writing. From her Witch!AU Sam Winchester, to the personification of Death from Final Destination ---- you just gotta. You gotta. I love her with all my black litle heart.
@leadkiss / where ever else you are tbh. GINA. GINA LIGHT OF MY WORLD AND HEART. Another person I've been writing with for literal years. She's been with me through some terribly tough times and helped me when I wasn't sure I could be helped. She could write a stick and still get your feels. She's talented and brilliant, and such a good. Just. Just a good okay.
@monstricidal You've probably heard me say this before, but Mary wouldn't be who she is without Kat's Alana Bloom. There is no one on God's Green Earth who probably loves Alana Bloom more than her. Her characterization is nuanced and deep, and everything has a reason and a realistic touch. Not to mention the writing is just flawless and breath taking. Kat is important to me. 100%.
@glitchyai / @thatradiodial DAISY. Daisyyyy. I've written with them for... god, 5 years now probably? We met on Carol? Yeah. 5 years. And all of their characters are gems and well thought out and just. I LOVE. I love, I love. I cannot imagine my life without.
@djtothestars / @radiowaaves MANDY! (Oh c'mon, you saw that coming didn't you??) I met Mandy through Daisy and I'm so grateful for that. Mostly we scream about characters at each other and random snapchats but I love Mandy with pm my whole liver. *wistful sigh* & she gets me into all these dang podcasts that give me feelings GOSH DERN IT
@dalishfreckles J O L Y. I don't think there are words for how important, or how much they mean to me. There are no words in all the tongues of the Elves, Dwarves, or Ents to explain my love. Like a lot of these people, I wouldn't be where I am now, or who I am now without Joly. They are a piece of my soul that I hope never leaves me. Their writing keeps me on my toes and make me want to write better, and have you seen their characters? Perfection.
@thirtylcve SO. a new fave. i absolutely love kate. i love to talk to her and watch her on the dash. and she's just so... kind and thoughtful. she understands all of her muses so well, and i just. i love her so much. /smooshes face. SO MUCH. also her freaking promo tag is "your fave could never" and i think it's the cutest thing in thE WHOLE WORLD
@onlyjokesherebro >> this one should come as 0% surprise tbh. magpie is the cutest patootiest patoot in the whole galaxy. chris's personality and speech patterns are so unique, but she gets them super great and is just a delight to talk to. and so. i'm so. I LOVE.
@perfectforayear MY STEPCHILD FROM ANOTHER BLOG...er or son from another blog? W/E. I have watched them grow from a n00b to this fully fledged roleplayer who has surpassed me in wonderfulness. i adore. forever.
SO THESE ARE SOME OF MY FRIENDS. and to round out #10, i wanted to tell you about a fave that i've never actually talked to, never written with, but i adore from afar bc i am smol potato.
@vcspertiilio did you know i love batman? no? where have you been?! i love just about every version of batman in the world. and i just recently (in the past 2 years) started reading batman comics. now. this blog? does such justice to bruce wayne that i am constantly blown away. the dialogue is perfect. the motivations are impeccable. i'm amazed at the headcanons that are supported by comic canon........ from a movie batman blog, who (from what i know) has read none to some comics. ( I'M NO EXPERT OK ) and i just. i read just about everythign on the dash with them and. /wisTFUL SIGH FROM FAR AWAY.
there you go. 10 of my faves. this isn't even top ten. this was just literally the firt ten i thought of. i love everyone i write with, and plot with, and for those of you who i haven't gotten a chance to ----- COME AT ME. I want new things. I want old things. I want all things. ouo

Pokeaniweek Day 5
Favorite relationship.
I think we all know the answer to this. I have gushed more about Pokeshipping than literally any other thing in the universe (except maybe cupcakes, but none of you know that). I have spent most of my life trying to explain just how much I love them, with fics, with analysis and so many other things, that I wasn’t sure what to add today. So I have decided to share something I’ve been hoarding for decades.
My playlist.
(YT version)
It’s slightly embarrassing, it’s slightly dated, and it’s MASSIVE, so it’s going under a cut (in list form and with occasional commentary). But if you want to share in it, there are links. Enjoy!
My shorthand: RSG means “reverse singer gender” so the song is from the POV of Ash if a girl is singing or Misty if a guy is. (-) means the song is a fit for their relationship if it were to go negative

Really boring/cliche criticisms about Batman and Superman that people think they’re the only person to ever say:
Superman is a boring character because he’s basically perfect
cool, all the people who actually have any sense of creativity actually realized this a long time ago and used this excuse to have him encounter situations that are far more intriguing than the character itself such as goofy outlandish villains, aliens, magic etc. I mean, he’s an alien and one of his few weaknesses is magic. How is that not exciting? Not saying that superman stories can’t be boring, but hinging on the creativity of his opponents can make the stories a lot more interesting & people are extremely dismissive of Superman
Batman is better because he’s always prepared
you do realize this skirts a very thin line of essentially implying “batman is better because he’s rich”, right?
Batman sucks because he’s boring and moody and works alone
Batman has had like 5 billion sidekicks at this point. The best versions of batman care a lot about people despite his rough exterior. Characters like Nolan’s Batman are not meant to be the “ideal”, they show how messed up Bruce Wayne is without anybody else to rely on, since his only emotional support is Alfred and Rachel. It’s not meant to be a sustainable form. Also Batman is at his best when he’s being a detective and isn’t just solely using his money to solve his problems.
Batman is better because Batman is smart, and Superman is dumb
Like I said, Batman is best as a detective, but it’s really boring when he just can pull off incredulous feats just because “he’s Batman”. He shouldn’t just solve everything instantaneously because he’s just that smart or just that rich, that’s bad storytelling. If people like Batman because he’s smart, we should see him using his brain solving crimes. Also Batman should be frickin smart, he’s a billionaire, i’m sure he’s had a tutor now and then.
Superman is a reporter with much more humble working class origins. Sure he has like 100 different superpowers, but he’s just a normal guy. Also, people seem to think Superman is a doofus who punches his way through his problems, but actually from what i’ve seen it’s Batman who relies much more heavily on intimidation tactics and threat of violence. Most popular iconography for Superman his him flying, carrying things, essentially trying to fix things when they’re broken and save people from harm, etc.
Batman is a bad person for punching criminals rather than pumping his money into Gotham’s economy or the police force.
he does both these things. Also good iterations of Batman still care about the criminals he’s fighting and would rather see their recovery than continuously punch them. Also the whole point of Batman is that “There is always crime in Gotham”. He’s always going to be a shady superhero because his crimefighting techniques raise questions about the morality of vigilante justice and surveillance and other icky stuff like that, but claiming that working with the police would solve everyone’s problems is kind of missing the point. The police force in Gotham is corrupt, that is why Batman only works with Gordon. Personally the reason I find Batman’s universe so interesting is because a corrupt police force more accurately represents my reality as a mixed Latinx woman.
Batman is better than Superman because he’s dark and gritty whereas Superman is a boy scout
.... it’s almost like they’re ideological foils and live in cities with entirely different problems.
Also were you not listening to me before? Dark and moody Batman is the worst kind of Batman for everyone involved, unless the story functions as a critique on why Dark and Moody Batman is The Worst, and even then we still have to suffer through Dark and Moody Batman
Also Gotham and Metropolis have entirely different needs. Gotham is full of corruption and therefore (arguably) needs a vigilante hero to solve his constant state of crime. Superman does nice boy scout things because Metropolis is for the most part a good place full of good albeit somewhat cynical city-dwelling people. Lois thinks he’s a corny boy scout too is all i’m saying. Superman can do mundane shit like rescue cats from trees but also can save the world from Lex Luthor because his entire deal is to be a good person and do good deeds. Gotham has a perpetually corrupt status quo, whereas Metropolis does not.
Batman and Superman are both bad because they think of themselves as above the law
at the end of the day superhero narratives work best as metaphors for like.... fulfillment fantasies for the audience where the hero is a self-insert about the power of the individual to do good for the world, some corny shit like that... and it’s best to read most superhero narratives as that or else they kind of start to fall apart, because this critique has a point. But that’s also why both characters have a “no kill”, whereas someone with a more militaristic history such as Wonder Woman does not. Also, i think the idea of vigilante justice from what I’ve seen resonates more with marginalized peoples where the law has not always been on their side. Just because something is the status quo or the law doesn’t mean its right.
Sure characters like Batman and Superman are "problematic”, but that’s because the moral of many superhero stories (but mainly spiderman) is “with great power comes great responsibility”, but there’s a fuzzy line between having great power to help others and having great power to rule over others (thanks Dan-O)

Superman should be black.
By that I mean he should have dark skin, and not that he's African-American or any other person of color. After all, the Man of Steel is from the planet Krypton, not Earth. That said, Superman could indeed be played by a black actor in future superhero movies.
My argument for why Superman should be black is based on science. Before I explain the reasoning, however, we need to address a sensitive subject: race. Many people use skin color as shorthand for ethnicity, but 'race' has little meaning in biology – it's a social concept that describes recent ancestry.
Race matters for superheroes because it contributes to their identity. And over the past few decades, comic book publishers and movie studios have increasingly changed characters to reflect a society's ethnic diversity.
While that should be applauded in principle, identity changes are often short-term publicity stunts. It might sound cynical, but if publishers and studios had pure intentions, changes would be permanent. As long-time comic fans know, major heroes almost inevitably revert back to their original identities.
Rather than promoting diversity just for diversity's sake, I believe the case for changing a character's identity is made stronger if the rationale makes sense based on origins and powers. The change is more likely to be welcomed – and become permanent – if it's based on logic, not gimmick. And that brings us to Superman.
Because most superpowers break the laws of physics, explaining why they're impossible is a pointless exercise. For the science of superheroes, it's more fun to focus on what's plausible. So while Superman's powers probably require unrealistic amounts of energy to work, we can at least imagine how to maximize the energy he'd need.
Solar-powered cells
In the movie Man of Steel, Superman asks his biological father why he's different from humans. As Jor-El explains: "Earth's Sun is younger and brighter than Krypton's was – your cells have drunk in its radiation, strengthening your muscles, your skin, your senses."
The fact Superman is powered by solar radiation – light – is also shown in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In one scene, he regenerates after bathing in the Sun's rays, paying homage to the comic that inspired the film, 'The Dark Knight Returns', when he tells Mother Earth: "The Sun's power... fuels us both."
Almost all life on Earth is ultimately powered by the Sun via photosynthesis: plants and other organisms use light to make food (carbohydrates) from CO2 and water. Their photosynthetic cells also release oxygen, which can be used to burn the energy-rich carbs that fuel metabolism.
Superman's cells would carry out a process similar to photosynthesis. Instead of making carbs, maybe he synthesizes fictional molecules that store even larger amounts of chemical energy.
Light rays consist of photons, subatomic particles that behave as both waves and pure energy. The length of a wave determines a photon's energy: short wavelengths – gamma rays, x-rays and UV light – are at one end of this spectrum, long wavelengths like infrared at the other.
High-energy radiation such as UV damages living tissue and can trigger genetic mutations (potentially causing cancer), whereas low-energy radiation is harmless but has low energy. As a consequence, Superman would absorb photons from the visible spectrum.
In complex organisms, photons are harvested by specialized compartments, such as the chloroplasts in plant cells. Chloroplasts contain proteins that funnel photons toward pigments, which convert energy from light.
When photons hit a pigment molecule, its electrons gain enough energy to leave their associated atoms. Electrons are then passed along chain reactions to produce molecules that can later release the energy stored in their chemical bonds, which is used to synthesize carbs.
Colored pigments
On Superman's home planet of Krypton, the best pigment color for absorbing solar radiation would be black.
Light-capturing pigments act as antennas tuned for picking-up photons with a particular energy, and their colors – how they look to our eyes – is determined by which photons they absorb. Blue photons have more energy than red photons, but few manage to reach our planet's surface.
Air and water filter-out certain wavelengths. On Earth, land plants have evolved to use the red-absorbing pigment chlorophyll, which looks green. Not all photosynthetic organisms are green, however: some plants have red leaves, while purple bacteria can even absorb infrared.
Photosynthetic organisms on distant worlds would use whichever pigments are most appropriate to the available wavelengths of light. Green may be common on Earth, but other colors could be more popular on other worlds. This could be exploited to detect signs of extraterrestrial life, as described in a brilliant article in Scientific American by biometerologist Nancy Kiang of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
As Kiang explains in her article, 'The colour of plants on other worlds': "The limiting factor is not the feasibility of novel pigments but the light spectrum available at a planet's surface, which depends mainly on the star type."
While the light that reach the surface is affected by which wavelengths penetrate the atmosphere, it's ultimately dictated by which rays are emitted by nearby stars.
And as comic fans know, Krypton orbits a red star and Superman gains his powers thanks to Earth's yellow Sun.
In Man of Steel, Jor-El sends his son to a planet "orbiting a main sequence yellow star." What does that mean? Many stars have a lifespan lasting billions of years, which often includes a 'main sequence' – the period when it carries out nuclear fusion, forcing hydrogen atoms together to create helium. This generates massive amounts of light energy.
Sun of Krypton
Astronomers classify stars according to 'spectral type' – basically, temperature and luminosity. There are 6 types (O, B, A, F, G, K and M). Rare O-type stars are hot, bright and look blue, whereas M-type stars – such as red dwarfs and red giants – are relatively cool and dim. Our Sun is somewhere in-between, a warm and yellow G-type star.
After accounting for atmosphere, the peak wavelength of light reaching Earth's surface is around 685 nanometers. For an M-type star like Krypton's Sun, it's about 1045 nm. In Man of Steel, a Kryptonian soldier says atmospheric conditions on their spaceship isn't compatible with humans, so the peak wavelengths would be slightly different due to filtering by air and water vapor.
Photosynthetic species – including a Kryptonian like Superman – living on a world orbiting a relatively inactive star would therefore need dark pigments to harvest light.
As Dr Nancy Kiang explains in her Scientific American article: "A planet around a quiescent M star would receive about half the energy that Earth receives from our Sun... Evolution might favour a greater variety of photosynthetic pigments to pick out the full range of visible and infrared light. With little light reflected, plants might even look black to our eyes."
Dark skin
The dark pigment that Superman's cells would need to absorb sunlight has a different function to melanin, the brown pigment that humans and other mammals use to protect against damaging UV radiation.
After humans migrated out of Africa 200,000 years ago, those populations exposed to less light would have been under weaker evolutionary pressure to spend metabolic resources on making UV-blocking pigments, which is why their descendants now have white skin.
Characteristic features of species are usually the result of natural selection, adaptations to their local environment. Because Superman has powers, light-capturing pigments must be useful to the survival of Kryptonians.
How did superpowers evolve? One possibility is that abilities were favored by evolution on Superman's home planet, and his ancestors lost their powers when the star turned red. Alternatively, they never evolved super-strength or super-senses – light was simply an energy source for ordinary metabolism – and Earth's yellow Sun artificially boosts their abilities.
Will we ever see a black Superman? In fact, Kryptonians of color already feature in comics. On an alternate version of Earth, for example, Calvin Ellis is not only Superman, but President of the United States (the character was modelled on Barack Obama).
But ethnic diversity hasn't always been politically correct. One issue of Superman describes Vathlo Island as 'home of a highly developed black race'. Such cringeworthy statements were typical back in the 1970s, but as comics writer Mark Waid points out, "A lack of ethnicity was an error of omission, and I'm not sure given the time that it's fair to call that 'racist'." It's less forgivable that the Kryptonians in Man of Steel (released in 2013) were all white.
DC Comics regularly relaunches its continuity, but it's unlikely the company would make Superman black, partly because he has so much history. A hero's race influences whether people identify with that character too.
But there is a precedent for changing ethnicity. Most famously, Nick Fury – traditionally depicted as white – was reimagined as Samuel L Jackson in comics. Life then imitated art as the actor was cast in the Marvel cinematic universe. Fury is a relatively minor character, however, and changing a major superhero might be met with more resistance from long-term fans.
The companies that own superheroes – publishers and movie studios – could follow the example of their heroic characters and make brave decisions. Henry Cavill will play Superman in Warner Bros' Justice League films, but what about the inevitable reboot in a few years' time?
Science says Superman should be black. Hopefully the next time we see him on screen, the Man of Steel will be a more realistic, solar-powered superhero. [h/t]

STEREK BINGO 2017 THEMES!
Here they are! Sterek Bingo 2017 themes! You can also see the list of themes here. ENJOY CREATING!!!!!!
Harry Potter: No matter Slytherin or Hufflepuff, Gryffindor or Ravenclaw, all houses are welcome in a Harry Potter AU! You don't even have to use houses, or Hogwarts at all! Perhaps branch out and use Beauxbatons or Ilvermorny, or maybe not even a school. Pro Quidditch player x Magical Creature instructor anyone?
Friends To Lovers: There's nothing more amazing in a relationship than being able to be best friends with your lover...except for when your best friend BECOMES your lover. From Monica and Chandler, to Scully and Mulder, the friends to lovers trope has been around for ages. And now it's time to give Sterek that treatment, no matter if it's canon or AU. Time to turn platonic snuggles into romantic snuggles!
Magic/Were!Stiles: Let's be honest here, this boy is something! Now it's time for you to decide what! Witch, werewolf, druid, werefox, raven, White Stag...the possibilities are so endless, and here's your outlet for choosing any one you want! The only thing Stiles can't be for this theme is human.
Top/Bottom: Top!Stiles/bottom!Derek, top!Derek/bottom!Stiles, or my personal favorite: Switches! No matter what you like, I think it's safe to say that the theme is pretty self-explanatory. Of course this theme doesn't have to relate to sex if you don't want it to- it could just as easily relate to bunk beds!
Kids: What's better than kids? From babies to teenagers, kids are what makes the world go round, and there's nothing cuter than Stiles and Derek with them. (Except maybe Stiles and Derek as kids themselves, but that's your choice to make!) No matter if it's baby!Sterek or Sterek with babies, if it includes kids, it's welcome for this theme!
Coffee Shop: Somehow, someway, Coffee Shop AUs are the single staple of the AU world. A fandom's not a fandom without a coffee shop AU! But there are always ways to make them unique...a coffee shop for the supernatural perhaps? Maybe Derek is allergic to coffee? A coffee shop that ran out of coffee? Put your creativity to the test by making a Coffee Shop AU as unique- or cliche'!- as you want!
Horror: From things that go bump in the night, to the morbid and macabre, horror is one of the great staple genres of media, and now it's time to add a dash of spooky to Sterek! It could be anything from a light Goosebumps-esque idea, or you could try to out horror American Horror Story. Bring your scares and something to cover your eyes, it's about to be Halloween in May!
Royalty: Kings and princes and knights, oh my! This is the thing that royalty AUs are made of! It could be set in the distant past, or you can modernize it. King!Stiles, prince!Derek, forbidden love or arranged marriages - there are a variety of different ways to do a royalty AU, all it has to include is, well, royalty!
Dark!Stiles: We all have a little darkness within us. And even before season 3B, so much of the fandom adored dark!Stiles. Now we're bringing him back from...the grave? Well now that depends on you, any reason for his darkness and in any way that he is, we want to see it! Villainous, evil, possessed, or morally gray, it doesn't matter. Bring ALL of the darkness to our cutest psychopath!
Derek Returns: What Sterek fan- hell, what DEREK fan- DIDN'T wish Derek had come back for season five? Or season six? Well there are probably some, but we aren't some of them! Derek coming back to Beacon Hills is the theme here, and it can be in season five, season six, or even post-canon. We just want to get him back by any means necessary, and you get to decide what those means are!
Comfort: I think it's safe to say that Derek and Stiles have both had rough lives, surrounded with death and misery and pain...now it's time for you to make that right! No matter if it's hurt/comfort or all comfort, if it's a heavy, emotional piece, or if it's just Derek wrapped in a blanket and making a blanket fort for Stiles, the idea is to be warm, happy, and most of all- comfortable!
Soulmates: Ahh, soulmate Aus...one of the best things that fandom has to offer that you don't really see in mass media. Worlds where you're born with a soul mark on your skin, or a clock counting down to the moment you'll meet your soulmate, or see only black and white until you meet them...soulmate AUs have the potential to be incredibly fluffy, comical, angsty, or tragic as you'd like. There are essentially no rules here! We always knew these two were destined for each other...
Alive Hales: There's so much to mourn with the Hale family. Laura, Talia, and all of the Hales we didn't know...so it's time to bring them back to life! Be it canon-divergent or AU, entire family or just Laura, it doesn't matter. It's time to put your spin on Derek's family! Let us meet your version of the Hales- after they meet Stiles, of course!
Meet-Cute: "Meet-cute" is, of course, a relative term. From the cliche rom-com meetings, to the sort of Munster-esque anarchy that only Stiles could consider cute, the goal is to create a meeting for these two lovable losers that's- well, CUTE! AU? Probably, but boy would it be interesting to see how you could interpret it for canon! Let us see your ideal cuteness level, sprinkled, of course, over Sterek!
Enemies To Lovers: Like friends to lovers, enemies to lovers is one of the staples of fandom. There's just something so incredible about watching two people who want to kill each other transform into two people who love each other unconditionally, and that's exactly what this theme is about! They can be merely at odds, or full out on opposite sides of a war, all that matters is that getting along comes later on for these two frenemies (loverenemies?)
BAMF!Stiles: Stiles Stilinski is a badass. We all know that. Now it's time to highlight it! BAMF!Stiles can be any shade of morality and have any kind of power (or even lack there of) that you want, The only guideline is that he does something that makes everyone else stand back, wide-eyed and open-mouthed, wondering how they got lucky enough to witness such a display of BAMF!
Werewolf Culture: Courting rituals and Alpha symposiums abound, it's time for a lesson in Werewolf Culture! It could be werewolves are known, A/B/O, Teen Wolf canon, or really any universe wherein werewolves exist and have their own communities and social constructs. What matters is that there's something about werewolves that's very different from humans- and it doesn't all come down to the full moon and turning into a wolf.
Little Red Riding Hood: Ahh, the fandom wide favorite fairytale, telling of a red-hood and a wolf... and those are the only requirements! Little Red could be innocent or evil, the wolf could be bad or good, and you don't even have to stick to canon! Little Red Riding Hood Derek x Wolf Stiles? Yes please! As long as those elements are included, it can be as close to or as far from the fairytale as you desire.
Switched Roles: Werewolf!Stiles/human!Derek? Age differences? Alpha!Stiles? Possessed!Derek? Why... this must be a role reversal!! No matter if it's a full on canon rewrite, a reversal of one season, or even just one specific trait (Alpha!Stiles/human!Derek for example) it doesn't matter. As long as something noticeably Derek is now Stiles, and something noticeably Stiles is now Derek. (It might have just been easier for them to switch clothes...)
Mythology: Ahh, mythology. One of the world's greatest- and most diverse- treasures. Every culture has such a vast and rich mythology that it's impossible not to find any to your liking, as it doesn't have to just stick to the average Greek and Roman mythos. Mythology has some of the greatest tales and some of the easiest to adapt. Old world or modern, closely following the story or deeply diverting from it, as long as it has a root in mythology or somewhere, it's welcome here!
Shifted Derek: Who doesn't LOVE a full-shifted wolf!Derek? We certainly love it here! Both in canon and AU, werewolf!Derek just seems to work, and what works possibly best is when he shifts into a real wolf! No matter if it's the freedom he gets from running through the woods, or just the peace of sleeping in the middle of a sunbeam, let Derek's spirit be in it's truest form by letting him be a wolf!
Crossover: There's nothing like a good old fashioned crossover. Be it another TV show, a movie, an anime, a book, or even a musical, all that matters is that it's another source of media that bleeds together with Teen Wolf! Maybe Derek and Stiles meet Dean and Cas, maybe there's an AU where anxious figure-skater!Stiles drunkenly asks superstar figure-skater!Derek to coach him. It doesn't matter as long as there's a second source material involved in your work!
Everybody Lives-Nobody Dies: I bet everyone has at least one person they wish HADN'T died in Teen Wolf. Even if it's pre-canon, now is your chance to bring them back from the grave! Anyone you want, as many people as you want. Let the events of canon slide right off and have an AU or canon-divergence where everyone is alive and happy!
A/B/O: Knotting, heats, scenting, bonding - all of the most well known cliche's of A/B/O (AKA: Omegaverse), One of the most unique concepts fanfiction has ever offered, almost certainly AU (almost), A/B/O is that great theme where you can really build a universe. Create an entirely new world with different laws and social structures and biology. Or you could just have the incredibly fun Alpha/Omega dynamics and call it a day - it's totally up to you! And what's even better, you can take the terms as loosely or as fittingly as you want! Keep them to a very general sense of pack structure, or create an entirely new world order with vastly different biologies and social requirements- it's all up to you!
Superhero: Ever since Tyler Hoechlin literally became Superman, superhero AUs have exploded in the Sterek community! From canon superheros like Superman and Batman, to totally new OC superheros like Black Wolf and Red Bat (or, you know, names that make sense), the superhero genre is one that can be easily explored and is certainly one of the most fun to do. It can be as lighthearted as Supergirl, as dark as Gotham, or something pleasantly in between- it's all up to you to decide!
Pack Mom Stiles: Pack Mom Stiles is one of the earliest staples of the Teen Wolf fandom, and one of my personal favorites. Because you know Stiles is "the mom friend". He doesn't bake cookies and help the kids with his homework, but he does defend his pack at all costs and is liable to take a bat to the head of anyone who breaks one of his friend's hearts! No matter if it's domestic or at war, Pack Mom Stiles is one of the cutest tropes around, and this is the time and place to dedicate a little time to the glue keeping the pack together!
Feral: Ah, feral AUs...no matter if it's Derek or Stiles, one of them is bound to spend just a little bit too much time in the wild, until the wild won't leave them. Perhaps the scariest thing about feral AUs is that they don't actually have to be AU at all. In fact, they can fit in very easily with canon. Maybe Derek comes back from his trip with Braeden, unable to shift out of his wolf form. Maybe Stiles, in trying to escape from the hunt, ended up getting stuck in the woods for a few years. Not to mention the full bounty of possibilities if you make it AU! Bring on the heartache! This is bound to hurt.
Canon Divergent: With only one half season left of Teen Wolf and Derek having been gone for a season and a half already, the chances of Sterek becoming canon- although still possible- are pretty slim. If canon is the one universe where they don't end up together, then it's our job as fans to create millions of universes where they DO! Find the perfect place in canon where you can save the relationship and ensure that whenever this mystical time in the universe is that these two don't end up together, it's NOT today! Not today Satan, not today.
Alpha!Derek/Stiles: There once was a time when Alpha!Derek was canon...and you could re-establish that time now! Miss the Hale pack? Want to create a new one? Just want those pretty red eyes back? Here's your chance to give Derek his power back! Oooor...your chance to allow Derek a time to rest and give that power to Stiles! Because who doesn't love Alpha!Stiles with beta!Derek? Of course, since this is Alpha Derek/Stiles, it could just as easily be both of them. Would they join their packs together? Be at odds with each other? It's your time to decide! Take those red eyes and stick them in whoever you want! As long as it's Derek or Stiles, that is
Wild Card: This is the obligatory bingo square in the very middle where you can do absolutely anything you want! That's right. There's no restriction, no guideline, no THEME! It's your freebie to do anything you may have been wanting to do, but haven't really had the time or inspiration to do until now- here's your chance. Now go forth and create Sterek!

Just imagining adult soulmate! lucy & maggie meeting and they are both so excited to see e/o then halfway through their catch-up maggie mentions her bike and suddenly lucy is almost more pumped abt the bike than maggie b/c omg i forgot abt our bikes i never did get to ride her, is she still beautiful?
Lucy would so do that! and Maggie would be low-key insulted but not really because ‘god it’s been so long and we’ve both grown-up and changed but you’re still kind of an asshole and I love that about you.’
the thing is I’m trying to decide if Maggie still has that bike b/c technically in canon Maggie says she has a Triumph Bonneville T100 which first went into production in 2002 which means that for the soulmate au timeline Maggie and Lucy would have had to have gotten their hands on a brand new bike for it to be the same model which is why they end up with a T140 so the options are:
1) it’s fanfic screw canon. Maggie still rides that same bike that she and Lucy fixed up. It took her out of fucking blue springs and stayed with her throughout Gotham and possibly a stint in Metropolis and carried her all the way to National City and she takes Lucy to it. Lucy who runs her fingers lovingly over the bike and probably cries but no one says anything cause she’d beat the shit out of them. And of course it’s still beautiful that bike is Maggie’s baby. Maggie asks if Lucy is even tall enough to ride it still making fun of Lucy for being like a full half an inch shorter than her. At some point, they have sex on that bike….
2) Maggie still has the bike but at some point she bought a new model and the T140 which she couldn’t bear to get rid of because of the memories, because she still never got to ride it with Lucy, because it got her out fucking Blue Springs is in storage or back home in her Ma’s garage. Lucy pouts until Maggie arranges for it to be delivered to NC or gets it out of storage or lets Lucy work her ‘I really don’t wanna know magic’. Lucy finally gets to ride it after all these years. At some point, they have sex on that bike….
3)The angsty version where the bike got destroyed in Gotham hijinks or a superman related property damage incident in Metropolis or an alien attack in National city or a run of the mill accident that almost killed Maggie bc angst but Maggie salvaged what she could and couldn’t bear to buy a brand new bike so she got another one to fix up this time it’s a T100 model but Maggie incorporates what parts she can from the T140 even if most of it is just decoration. Maggie tells Lucy the story and shows her the bike and which parts are from their original. Lucy hugs her and says she’s just glad Maggie is okay running her fingers across what’s left of a part she remembers hand picking. At some point, they have sex on that bike….
