Once Bitten, Twice Stupid prt 170
170
Lance lavished Keith with extra attention as they got ready for the day ahead. Today was finally the day that Curtis was freed from his curse. Waking feeling ill, Lance kept it to himself. Keith was fighting his own dose of anxiety, coupled with lingering pain from bottoming though that had been a good 15 hours ago now. Making extra coffee, Lance had cooked a few of Curtis’s favourite foods, and comfort food for Shiro, assuming being an anchor for his boyfriend’s soul would be quite taxing on their friend. They weren’t allowed on the same floor as their friends, so Pidge and Hunk were coming with them to Platt, told by Coran to be a few hours late.
When Hunk picked them up, Lance was glad he was the one driving. Keith had hit that angry stage of anxiety, a little snappy and overly apologetic. Lance unable to keep from thinking about the house and Curtis on the drive. Hunk trying to cheer them up as he and Pidge talked tech. The house was clearly an unsaid no go topic for the day. Plans shifting to making the most of the road trip down to see Keith’s father once Curtis was up for it. Keith barely contributed. Lance ignoring safety in favour of sitting in the middle back seat with just a lap belt to be able to hold Keith close to him. Honestly having so much in his head distracted from the discomfort in his belly. A growing feeling something was wrong left him teary, though he knew he’d done everything he was supposed to be doing to keep the pregnancy progressing smoothly.
Parking in the staff parking under Pidge’s direction, Lance was hit with vertigo as he climbed from Hunk’s car, resulting in him tripping on his own feet as his left ankle rolled. Something felt very wrong. Again, he knew it was his anxiety blowing things out of proportion... Embarrassingly, Lance found himself on all fours throwing up. Keith yelling his name as if he’d been shot or stabbed, and not something as damn common as him falling over. Grabbing him around the shoulders, Lance hacked, spitting in his puddle of mess with his nose scrunched up
“Babe?!”
“I’m okay...”
“You collapsed. Do you have a fever?”
Keith smacked him in the head as he tried to check. Lance sighing heavily
“I’m fine. I tripped...”
“You...”
“I tripped. I’m okay”
Ugh. Stupid ankles. It didn’t matter how fast and how strong you were, ankles would get you every time
“We should get Coran to check you”
“Babe, I’m okay... help me up”
Keith hovered. Hunk hovered. Pidge had a bounce in her step as she led them to her office. Everything within VOLTRON was running smoothly. People going about their jobs. No blaring alarms. No one was hurt. No big bad jumped out them. He was being stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. The only thing around to fear was Lance and his paranoia... and his paranoid anger loaf who’d made Hunk carry the picnic basket, then started “helping” him along as if he was old and decrepit, reducing him to shuffling along. Thank god no one else was there to fuss, his anxiety hadn’t settled as it was, now it’d decided to kick into overdrive there’d be no settling it until Keith finally stopped fussing and they could see their friends again.
*
Keith couldn’t stop thinking about Shiro. He hadn’t called him. He hadn’t wished him good luck today. He’d said nothing to his brother and he hoped his brother took it to mean he trusted things to go smoothly, and not that he was giving up before things had started.
Settling in in Pidge’s office, she shared her space with three other technicians. Keith would have gotten lost if he hadn’t been following her as she confidently led them to the lab. With his arm around Lance, he found himself torn between who to fret over more. His boyfriend who’d fallen over and then promptly thrown up, or Shiro who would acting as Curtis’s anchor right about now. Thank fuck that the fellow lab techs weren’t in at the moment, because he wasn’t sure he could keep his damn temper in check over the situation. He didn’t blame Lance for throwing up. It’d been a while since it’d happened outside... His boyfriend had spent the morning trying his hardest to be reassuring, but when his rock started crumbling, Keith didn’t know what to do. Lance kept him grounded. Lance had to be okay. Plus Lance had totally nailed him the night before and he worried the slip of his ego had somehow upset the twins. Keith had been swept up in Lance’s scent and the way his boyfriend’s body moved. He’d rushed in, over sensitised and flipped some kind of switch inside Lance. He didn’t regret it. Even with his vampire side showing, Lance hadn’t hurt him. His grip firm, without being painful, pleasure pounded into him until he had to touch himself for relief.
Now Lance was sitting in a chair Pidge stole from another technicians desk, his boyfriend rubbing his stomach as their little gremlin grabbed a case for him to rest his feet on. Keith had seen plenty of those cases before. Normally they contained things that someone shouldn’t be putting their feet on. “Dusting” her hands off, Pidge beamed
“Okie dokie, guys. Lance has decided he needed the royal treatment, but do you guys want to see my lab?”
Pidge and Hunk had showed they were they’re for them, by being physically there for them. Pidge was keeping them smiling, as she’d done at the house, using her “gremlin powers” as a force for good. Going to the house had been a sobering experience for them, and Keith had let his duties as the cool mature older friend slide by providing very little comfort to her, despite the fact both her brother and father had been held there. Leaning back in his chair, Lance nominated him
“Keith would love to. I’m going to chill here and be pregnant. Maybe think about breaking into the locker room and appropriating some toothpaste... the options are endless”
Pidge poked Lance in the back of the head, Lance swatting at her hand. How could the pair of them act so normal? Hunk seemed the only one worried outwardly. Lance letting Pidge tease him only served to annoy Keith. His boyfriend might be clumsy, yet he felt there was more going on with Lance that what met the eye
“If you’re feeling that much better, you can come on the tour too”
“I’m busy growing two humans at the moment...”
“You’re on a roller chair. Hunk can drive you”
“Piiiiidge, I promise I’ll listen, but I’m not feeling great. Show Keith and Hunk around, brag about your job. You deserve it”
There was no one there that Keith trusted Lance’s health too. Allura helping in the summoning ritual, and Keith now realising he hadn’t been worried about the two faes. He should be worried. A demon against Coran and Allura... That wasn’t as simple as a werewolf with a cavity. They could be seriously hurt if the summoning went wrong. Catching him staring, Lance held his hand out of him, Keith moving to automatically grip it
“I’m going to be okay. You’re not leaving me. You’re not leaving the room. It’s all psychosomatic from what I can tell”
“So something is wrong...”
He’d known it. He fucking knew it. Now Lance was admitting it so it had to be true
“Just a little pain in my stomach, and a little bit of dizziness. I’m fine now I’m sitting”
“You should have told me”
“I know. But I’m in the best place I can be and I’m like pretty sure that maybe it’s because I’m worrying about our friends. They’re going to be okay. Coran knows what he’s doing. They’re going to be okay and we’re all going to in relief once it’s over, you’ll see”
“But what if something’s wrong?”
“The most important thing we can do is be calm. Go check out the tech. I packed my phone, so maybe Pidge can play with that?”
Keith had forgotten about Lance’s phone. His head felt foggy from the moment he’d woken up. Too many thoughts were taxing his brain power. Crossing her arms, Pidge huffed
“I do not play. You guys should appreciate my genius”
“Trust me, Pidgeon, we do. Hunk, Bud. It’s all going to be okay. You’re allowed to be here, so you don’t have to be nervous. Kolivan isn’t here to kidnap you guys, and Coran loves you. I’m sure that engineering side of you is dying to tinker. You’ve already signed a non-disclosure, and as your amazing legal advisor I’m telling you it’s totally fine to relax”
Hunk worried his pointer fingers together
“I’m worried about you. Oh, man. I said it. Dude, are you sure you’re okay being here... You’re pregnant and pregnant people should be resting and we went to the house and you didn’t look very well then and...”
Lance gently interrupted Hunk
“Sunshine of my life, all bromo and no homo, I’m okay. You don’t need to worry. I’m older than you, remember, plus I’m a vampire. A little trip isn’t going to hurt the babies. My stomach didn’t even touch the ground. Go forth and tinker. Maybe you can swipe something useful?”
Lance liked to think he was magically easing everyone, but Keith could tell differently. He felt it, that Lance wasn’t being completely honest, yet Lance did like to stress and worry too much... He felt kind of weird being in the labs without being at work. He’d start back tomorrow, provided everything went well today. Lance had probably already thought about that too. His boyfriend being so thoroughly himself by trying his hardest to support him. Leaning down, Keith kissed the top of Lance’s head. He was being silly. He was letting his anxieties blow things out of proportion
“I’m sorry. I’m not handling this very well”
“Babe, none of us are. But we’re all not handling it well together. We’re a pack remember, it’s natural we’re worried for our family. Now, give me a kiss...”
Keith did as he was told, Lance smiling at him toothily, before continuing
“... and don’t go touching anything”
“Why not? You said Hunk could”
“Because Hunk could probably rebuild anything he broke. We have to face it, babe, we’re a little bit dumb when compared to these two. Not that you are dumb. I have no doubt you could rebuild any weapon you get your hands on, I’m just saying there’s no way I could fix a microscope if I broke it”
Keith got it. He was no wiz when it came to tech
“That’s true. We’ll be... somewhere in here, if you need me call me”
Lance slowly rubbed the underside of his swell
“You know I will. Me and our cupcakes are just going to chill”
*
Not knowing how long the summoning would take, the wait dragged on. Keith had taken to borrowing a roller chair, keeping himself preoccupied as Pidge worked on Lance’s phone with Hunk. Rolling over to his boyfriend, Lance raised his leg, pushing lightly and sending him rolling across the room. Yeah. They’d hit level of boredom. “Running back across the room on his tip toes, Pidge pushed her chair back to stop him
“If you two keep this up, I’m going to evict you”
Lance sighed at Pidge, pulling himself up in his chair
“Don’t get snappy at him”
“Then don’t get mad when your phone explodes!”
Lance rolled his eyes, not phased by an angry Pidge
“Is it just me, or does our gremlin sound like she needs another dose of coffee?”
Coffee sounded great. Plus it’d give him something to do with hands
“I’ll go!”
Pidge huffed at Keith’s enthusiasm at leaving. He could have brought Kosmo and taken him for a walk while they waited
“Say how you really feel. You’re supposed to be helping me with the interface”
“I can’t help you until we get there”
Lance wheeled himself over to Hunk
“Hunk, the coffee nerds are fighting. Want to come get the coffee with me?”
Hunk nodded, playing along as he whispered loudly
“They’re scary when they fight”
“I know. I’m surprised Pidge hasn’t invented a Roomba that knives ankles when someone gets between her and coffee”
“Man, don’t go giving her ideas!”
Pidge pushed her chair back, crashing lightly into Lance and Hunk
“You two suck. I hope you both know that”
Lance raised his hand to ruffle her hair
“So Pidgeon doesn’t want a coffee? I guess I shouldn’t get cookies either”
“If you dare come back without cookies, I will end you”
“Many have tried. I’m having cupcakes with the last hunter who came to do just that. You might be a gremlin, but you’re facing a creature of the night”
Pidge sighed at Lance
“You’re a dramatic arsehole, you know that, right?”
“I have been told my arsehole is very dramatic and I don’t even know what that was. Hunk, do you want to come for the walk?”
“Sure... are you up for walking? Shouldn’t you be resting?”
“I’ve rested and I need to pee. Besides, Keith is cranky. He needs sugar and caffeine”
Keith scowled at the pair of them. He should be the one going for coffee, not his pregnant lover
“Why don’t I get to go?”
“Because Pidge might need your help. We’ll be back soon, babe”
Wheeling herself back to her desk, Pidge mocked him
“Yeah, babe. He’ll be back soon, babe. Don’t worry, babe”
Pidge could pull off being a summoned demon with ease. Keith glad she was using her powers for good instead of running a top class criminal racket
“You’re evil”
“I know”
“Guys, we’re all family and we all love each other. We’ll be back soon. Babe, it’s okay. I love you and I promise I’ll get your order right”
“I know you will. Love you, too. Make sure Hunk doesn’t get lost”
What the heck was that? “Make sure Hunk doesn’t get lost”? What a time to be awkward... Lance snorted
“Pfft. I’ll make him hold my hand and look both ways before crossing the road”
Hunk groaned at them
“Why am I being treated like a kid?”
Lance smiled happily at Hunk
“Because you’re our Hunk and we love you. Pidge, do you want any real food?”
“Nope. I’ve got my own fridge with adult food and everything. You two losers go get the coffee already”
“Ma’am, yes, Ma’am”
Lance shot Pidge a sloppy salute, Pidge over exaggerating rolling her eyes at him
“Go already! Keith, why do you put up with him?”
“Because I love him”
“Acceptable answer. Okay, come over here and pretend to make yourself useful”
*
The bad feeling Lance had hadn’t left. Leaving VOLTRON the world felt warmer. The sunshine and busy streets distracting with their overness. So many people were talking he couldn’t narrow in on one particular sound. With each step away from the building, he felt better. The pains in his stomach hadn’t abated at all. Yet if something was wrong, all he could do was wait for Coran as it was. Noticing his distracted mood, Hunk held his hand, Lance smiling and he shook his head when it first slipped into his.
Unable to stop from over ordering, Hunk was on coffee carrying duty, as Lance carried the two bags from the bakery back. The pain now starting to get to the point when he had to slow down, and rest every few metres. Reminding himself he only had to make back to the next block, he tried his hardest to ignore it. It’d pass. It’d pass and the twins would be okay. He didn’t so much care for himself, he’d heal, but them... He couldn’t lose them. He’d give himself an hour. If things hadn’t improved in an hour he’d head down to the infirmary and let them poke at him.
Hunk noticed the stops, the big man slowing to a snails pace to match his. Making their way through the bookshop and into the elevator, Lance dropped the bags as he grunted, staggering into the elevator wall. Something was wrong. Something was very very wrong. These... this felt like... his fake contractions but a hundred times worse
“Lance!”
“Call... Keith...”
Gripping his stomach with one hand, Lance held himself up, bent over with his hand against the elevator walls. A second wave of pain made him moan in misery
“Fuck, okay, okay, okay. It’s only a little further...”
Wetness trickled down his legs, Lance immediately panicking at the warmth
“Call Keith!”
Behind him Hunk had hit the button down to the labs, the elevator doors sliding shut. They’d only just started moving when elevator shuddered, some kind of barely audible boom causing it to shudder around them as it came to a stop. Shit. This couldn’t be good
“I can’t get through to Keith. The call won’t connect!”
“What do you mean you can’t reach... agh!”
Gripping his stomach, Lance’s knees bent, nearly buckling under the pain. A wave of something evil seemed to tear through the air, the hairs on his skin standing upright as his body erupted into goosebumps
“It says no signal! What do I do?!”
Hunk was freaking out. Lance was freaking out. He hated being trapped. He hated elevators but knew the doors would open, so ignored the discomfort of being in one. Above the lights flickered, red replacing bright white light as an alarm started ringing. Something had gone wrong. Something had gone wrong with the summoning. That was the only thing Lance could think of... fuck... fuck it hurt... it hurt so much his head dropped as he swore violently in time with the wave of pain
“Fuuuuuck!”
This couldn’t be happening. He’d done everything right. Every demand placed on him, he’d done it. He’d stabbed himself over and over with those damn injections. He’d drunk Keith’s blood. He’d eaten until he started to hate food.
Coming to his side, Hunk had set the tray of coffees down. Placing his hand on Lance’s lower back, he leaned around him
“Lance? What do I do?”
“Hunk, I need... need you to check... if I’m bleeding...”
“Wha...”
“Just put your hand on my arse and tell me if you see blood”
Hunk moved, his moved hesitant as he pulled down the back of Lance’s pants exposing his underwear. Thank god for elastic maternity pants
“N-no...”
Okay. Okay. That was good. Forcing down a deep lungful of air through his nose Lance released it slowly through his mouth
“I think I’m in labour. The summoning’s gone wrong... I need you to check the elevator doors. See if you can get them open”
It didn’t matter what floor they were on. Coran had built the place with a labyrinth of hidden stairs. If they could get out, they could get help. He could send Hunk through the car park to call Krolia, Matt and Rieva
“On it... Dude, do you want to sit? I don’t know what to do...”
Poor Hunk. Lance had to keep strong for him, but fuck... He needed Coran, like right now!
“No... no... standing... is better... fuck... fucking fuckery fuck...”

Okay that last fic was SO good, so if you’re still taking these: 3A with Shiro and whoever you’d like to write? (Maybe allura? Or Matt?) ❤️❤️❤️
Sorry this took a thousand years oops but I know Shallura is your jam so I tried my hand at that, hope you enjoy it!!
Taken from this ask meme (Flu + at someone’s house) please forgive my loose interpretation of “someone’s house” lol many thanks as always to @feverflushed for reading it over and putting up with my whining
—–
Shiro exhaled with a shaking breath as the students filed past him, bracing himself as subtly as he could against the desk at the front of the room. He should have cancelled this class. He’d been feeling off for the past few days, but had chalked it up to his usual, messed up sleep schedule. Now, though, the chill he’d been feeling all morning had settled in his bones, and his head felt like it was about it split open in front of all these poor, innocent third years.
Gathering his things as quickly as possible, Shiro waited for the rest of the students to leave. A few of them shot him worried looks; he’d mentioned how he was cancelling his office hours today, and it was a small enough class for everyone to know how he never cancelled office hours. But God, his whole body ached.
The journey to his office was longer than Shiro remembered; it felt like miles instead of just a few minutes away. Everything hurt. It hasn’t been this bad this morning…
Finally, he reached his office, his vision was starting to go a little spotty. All he had to do was open the door, and he could just sit down for a bit…
Grasping the doorknob with his metal hand, he found it needed to be turned with more force than usual. Or maybe he just was feeling weaker than normal.
Muffling a cough into his fist, he dropped his bag in a heap as soon as he stepped through the door, all but collapsing on the couch. Shivering a bit, he sunk into the cushions, stretching out as far as he could. He just needed to close his eyes for a few minutes….
——
“I’m telling you, Coran, everyone in this administration is a thick-skulled fossil.”
Coran could only chuckle, and it made Allura grip her cell phone even harder. “Give them time, Allura. They haven’t had a female Dean of Engineering in, well….ever! I’m afraid they’re rather set in their ways.”
Allura sighed loudly, readjusting her grip on her briefcase as she briskly walked down the empty hall to her office. Her short heels clicked sharply on the tile. She was already taller than most of the other teachers in the engineering department, and hated how she had to make these small concessions to make them feel better about themselves. The meeting she had just gotten out of was unproductive at best and misogynistic at worst. Truth be told, Allura was absolutely sick of pandering to these old fashioned assholes.
She rounded a corner, relief swelling in her chest at the sight of her office, promising some relief from the tiring world of male dominated academia. “Even so, that’s no excuse for their behaviour–”
Her complaint was abruptly cut off when she reached the door to her office. Looking down, she froze as she saw how the doorknob was twisted, mangled in such a way that left the door slightly ajar.
On the other end of the line, Coran was calling her name. Swallowing back an irrational wave of fear, she took a deep breath. “Coran, I think someone’s broken into my office.”
“What?!” Coran’s voice practically screeched through the receiver. “Are you sure?”
Allura honestly shouldn’t have been scared–she was adequately trained in at least three different fighting styles, courtesy of her father. However, that didn’t stop the wave of apprehension that flooded through her as she slowly pushed the door open.
It was pitch dark, as to be expected; it was late in the afternoon, and the winter sun was already beginning to set. With her phone still clutched in one hand–trying to ignore Coran’s helpful tips of Make sure to get him in the balls!–she fumbled for the light switch on the nearby wall, turning it on with a hard smack.
Light exploded in her face, and she instinctively took a step back. Looking around wildly, she searched for the intruder.
Instead, she found the most beautiful professor in the university passed out on her couch.
Allura couldn’t stop her “Oh!” of surprise into the phone, which prompted another wave of rapid-fire questions from Coran.
“Well? Was it an intruder? Did you make sure to get him in the b–”
“I’m fine, Coran.” Allura crept closer to the sleeping figure, “I believe this was all a misunderstanding.”
“What, someone accidentally broke into your office?” Coran sounded incredulous, and rightly so, if she was being honest. It sounded insane.
“I’ll call you back in a moment.” With that, Allura hung up, feeling only a little bit guilty about leaving Coran hanging. Oh well. He would understand–as her uncle and mentor, he always did.
Of course, Allura did find this whole situation quite curious. What was Takashi Shirogane doing in her office?
He was sprawled out on the couch, his bag left carelessly by the door. He had his flesh arm draped across his stomach, the metal one dangling off the couch haphazardly. Even in sleep, he was gorgeous.
Allura has had this silly crush on him since they first met, when he was hired a mere 6 months ago. They met at an all hands faculty meeting; being in different departments, this was one of the few opportunities they’d had to interact. He was funny, quick witted, smart, kind…and Allura fell for him almost immediately. Since then, they rarely crossed paths, but he was on her mind much more often than she’d care to admit.
Upon closer inspection, however, Allura noticed his face was awfully pale, with the beginnings of a flush across his cheeks and nose, almost causing the scar there to disappear. His breathing was deep, but uneven and congested sounding.
Allura couldn’t resist the urge to press the back of her hand to his forehead. Burning. Just as she suspected.
Though she did her best to keep her touch gentle, Professor Shirogane stirred under her touch. Slowly, he opened his eyes–the colour was a stunning grey, despite being a bit glazed. “Mm…’llura?”
Allura blinked, taking an instinctive step back. “Oh, I’m sorry, Professor. But are you feeling alright?”
He blinked up at her–how could one person swing between heart-stoppingly gorgeous and so cute I’m going to die so easily? Allura felt a blush of her own paint her cheeks.
Sitting up slowly, he rubbed a hand over his face. “Not that I…” his voice gave out, and he cleared his throat a few times. “Not that I mind, but what are you doing in my office?”
“Um,” Allura said eloquently. “You’re actually in my office, Professor.”
This seemed to clear the haze from his face. Looking around, his bloodshot eyes grew wide. “Oh,” he gasped, and then doubled over when it caused a rough sounding coughing fit.
Allura stepped toward him again, her concern from earlier returning. “Are you alright, Professor Shirogane? Do you need anything?”
“Shiro,” he said, voice raspy after the fit. He looked up at her through his white bangs, eyes watery. “My friends call me Shiro.”
Shiro. Allura filed that piece of information somewhere in her heart, to pour over and caress when needed.
“Shiro,” she said slowly, testing out the name on her lips, “are you quite alright?”
Straightening up slowly, like it hurt, Shiro just nodded. “I’ll be fine.” Not that Allura exactly believed him; the flush across his cheeks had only deepened since waking, and Allura remembered vividly the heat radiating off of him.
“But,” he continued, “do you usually leave your office door unlocked?”
Allura couldn’t help the grimace that made its way onto her face. “Well…no. Not usually. But that didn’t seem to stop you.”
At his confused look, she pulled the door further open, clearly showing the mangled doorknob.
Now the fevery flush on his cheeks blended into a deep, embarrassed blush across his whole face. “Oh my god,” he muttered into his hand. “I….broke your door…?”
Allura gave the door a little push, closing it as much as it would go. “Please don’t feel too guilty, Shiro,” she said slowly, relishing every opportunity she could get to use his newly discovered name. “I think you have quite the fever. You must have mistaken this office for your own.”
“I’m so sorry!” Shiro exclaimed, as if she hadn’t said anything. He put his head in his hands. “Of all the offices to break into, I had to pick yours? The most beautiful woman on campus?” He looked up at her, distraught. “You must think I’m a complete freak.”
Allura’s brain ground to halt at his exclamation. Beautiful?
She opened her mouth to respond–though she hadn’t quite figured out what, exactly, to respond with–when Shiro’s expression crumpled. For a horrifying second, she thought he was going to start crying–how high was his fever?–but instead, he pitched forward to sneeze a small fit into his cupped hands.
Whatever thought she had was thrown out the window at the sound. Gosh, he sounded awful. Whatever he was coming down with sounded particularly nasty. She snagged the tissue box off of her desk and silently handed it to him.
Sniffling pathetically, Shiro took a handful, blowing his nose wetly. “I’m so sorry,” he apologized again, sounding defeated. He stood abruptly, not looking all that steady on his feet. “I really should just go.”
Blinking rapidly, he started to make his way toward the door, but Allura stopped him. “I really think you should lie back down, Shiro. You’re clearly unwell.”
She eased him as gently as she could back onto the couch, and, feeling bold, took the seat next to him. Brushing his bangs aside, she put a hand on his forehead again. “You sound like you might have the flu. I really think you should stay here until I can drive you home.”
Shiro turned a bit into her hand, nuzzling into the touch. Allura felt her blush from earlier return. Shiro’s eyes fluttered closed, and he sighed a bit.
“This isn’t…how I wanted our next meeting to go,” he mumbled.
Allura couldn’t help but smile. “And how, exactly, did you want it to go?”
Shiro shrugged, eyes still closed. “Dinner, maybe?”
Allura felt her eyes go wide. Then she smiled, her heart beating hard and fast in her chest. “Well then,” she said, gently pushing him so he was lying down on the couch again, “how about you get better as fast as possible, and I’ll take you up on that?”
“Mmm…” Shiro muttered, congested breathing evening out as much as it could.
Running a hand through his hair, Allura couldn’t resist planting a soft kiss on his too-warm forehead.
“Feel better soon, Shiro.”

Request? Plance and kallura and Hunay reveal their feeling for each other on new years eve. They reflectwhen they got feeling for each other. ( of your still taking request) HAPPY HOLIDAYS !
A/N: I’m like…three months late… I’m sorry. Hopefully this 5,000+ word one-shot makes up for it. This was beta-ed by the wonderful @tressa-rose ! Thank you so much!
“Stupid Garrison. With their stupid parties and their stupid banquets,” Pidge muttered under her breath as Colleen applied a thin layer of powder on her face. Colleen chuckled at her daughter’s anger and added a thin layer of blush as well, making Pidge’s complaints’ volume raise. She turned towards her faithful robot, Chip, and begged, “Please save me, Chip!”
Colleen snapped the blush closed and chucked it inside the make-up bag, shaking her head in amusements as she watched Chip scan the area for any sense of danger to protect Pidge from.
“I don’t think the Garrison is the source of your anger, Katie,” Colleen mused as she took out the eyebrow razor. She turned towards Chip, “Don’t worry about it, Chip, she’s just being over-dramatic.”
Chip calmed down and just sat on Pidge’s bed to watch the two women.
“You’re right,” Pidge agreed with her mother’s assumption and tilted her head upon her mother’s command and shut her eyes tight, “I blame the social standards set up by men and the women who conform to them.”
“If that’s a jab at your mother,” Colleen blew on her daughter’s face to blow away the trimmed hairs, “You’re starting a war you won’t win. You asked me to help you.”
With one swipe, Colleen cut a stubborn, thick strand and made Katie yelp and grab onto her eyebrows, “I asked for you to help me pick out a dress, not shave off my eyebrows!”
“Stop exaggerating! I’m just making sure your eyebrows don’t join your hairline! You’re still going to have eyebrows.” Colleen yelled back, placing a hand on her hip and glaring down at her cowering daughter.
Katie looked up and returned the glare at full force and maybe even growled. Her mother returned the same look, the tension palpable to anyone in the vicinity. This included the two male Holts waiting for them in the living room. The stern reprimand coming from the older woman alerted Sam that something was off and he got up from his spot, being closely followed by his son.
“What did Katie do this time?” Sam asked from the doorway, Matt peering over his shoulder and holding in a laugh when he saw Pidge all dressed up. She didn’t look bad. In reality, she looked beautiful but the animalistic growling didn’t exactly pair up will with a formal dress and three-inch heels.
The two men leaned back when Colleen and Pidge twirled on the balls of their feet to look at them, amusement and frustration clearly painting their faces.
Before Pidge could answer, Colleen answered for her, “She’s nervous for her date with Lance.”
Pidge flushed and turned around to face her mother, “It’s not a date! We’re going to the Garrison banquet together because we were the only ones without a date!”
“But,” Matt began, “It’s not even a requirement to have a date to go. Besides, this dude from Olkarion asked you and you dashed out of there quicker than a bilfsnape,” Matt smirked, “You didn’t seem that opposed when Lance asked you to the banquet.”
Pidge glared at her older brother, “It’s just a friend thing. And you’ve got to stop hanging out with Coran; I’m not understanding your similes.”
Suddenly, the doorbell and silence rang through the house.
Then Matt was on the move.
A mischievous smile on his lips, Matt turned his heel and headed on to open the door to greet Lance and be able to tease him a bit before Pidge got to the door. However, before he could get too far, he was pushed down by a heavy figure and a metallic clang rang through the room when he fell with the figure on top of it. Pidge ran past her fallen brother and patted the head of her robot, “Thanks, Chip!”
Pidge reached the door easily now that her brother wasn’t set out on embarrassing her and she opened it once she caught her calmed down from the adrenaline. Lance was standing behind the door, hair slicked back and blue eyes on full display. He wore an open navy blue suit and a white button-down accompanied by a sea-foam green tie that matched with her dress. Her soft sea-foam green maxi dress made her seem taller and, thanks to her heels and the few inches she grew since they defeated Honerva, she was able to reach his eyes. Topped off with gold accessories, her look was just as formal as Lance’s.
“Wow,” Lance whispered, “You look great!”
Pidge beamed and hoped the layers of foundation, powder, and blush would block her real blush. “Thanks, you look like you came out of a high school prom movie, though.”
“Hardy, har, har. That was hilarious, Pidge,” Lance offered her his arm and Pidge took it, opening the door a little bit to say goodbye to her parents.
“Bye, mom! Bye, dad! Bye, Matt! See you later!”
Lance leaned towards the door and peered over her shoulder, “See you later, Mr. and Mrs. Holt! You too, Matt!”
Pidge soon slammed the door and Lance led her to his car, “Why was Chip pinning Matt to the floor?”
Pidge rolled her eyes, “‘Cause he was being an idiot.”
Lance chuckled and opened the door for her and helped her sit like a true gentleman, expertly dodging her flying limbs as she tried to gather up her dress in her arms and not trip on her heels as she jumps into her seat. He tucked in the dress so as to not pinch it against the door and walked on over to his side of the car.
However, at the subtle sound of a click, he looked up to see his date holding her phone and hiding a chuckle behind her open palm. He smiled and posed ridiculously next to the door, “You need to get my good side, pigeon. Otherwise, the picture is useless.”
Pidge snorted as she made sure to take ridiculous shots of her date trying to woo her camera and when he smacked his arm against the car door and winced in pain momentarily before returning to his outrageous poses. She put her phone down and she felt a wave of nostalgia slap her across her face, remembering the mini photoshoot she, Lance, and Hunk had with the sentry they programmed to “have fun”.
Lance climbed into the driver’s seat and put on his seatbelt, not without giving Pidge a look for not putting on her seatbelt, and he pulled out of her driveway. He put on some shades and announced, “Let’s go rock this night, Pidge.”
“No, Lance,” Pidge said, sliding on her own pair of shades, “Let’s rock this new year.”
Hunk should have known this would have happened. He was fine the whole week; he was even excited for this very moment. He’s a grown man, he should really stop letting it happen. He’s panicking again.
One would have thought that he would have the courage to pick up Shay for the banquet tonight. He’s a paladin of Voltron; he kicked sentry butt when he was only 17 years old and now, at the tender age of 25, he’s scared of spending a night with the most beautiful alien he’s ever seen.
No biggie.
However, he’s a man of his word and will not let this small moment of doubt stop him. So breathed in and opened the hatch to the Yellow Lion and walked out.
Shay was already waiting for him when he descended the hatch. His breath hitched and he couldn’t tear his eyes off of her. It was almost like the first time he knew he was smitten with her. The sun was setting right behind her, like an angelic halo, and she beamed the brightest, most beautiful smile he has ever seen.
He wiped a stray tear from his eyes and hugged the beautiful alien. Shay giggled and hugged him tightly, “Hunk, why are you crying?”
Hunk tightened his hold on her and whined, “You look so pretty and I missed you!”
Shay laughed, “Hunk, we saw each other this morning when we were finishing the food for tonight!”
“Yeah, but I still missed you,” Hunk sniffed.
Suddenly they heard a loud a celestial ring and looked up in time to see a wormhole disappear and the Black Lion fly through and through the Balmeran sky and towards Earth. They saw the Black Lion fly past the Balmera and they waved as the Lion entered the Earth’s atmosphere. Hunk grabbed Shay’s hand and beamed brightly, “I can’t believe they made it! That little sneaker, Keith told me they weren’t going to make it! Come on Shay, I want to catch up to them!”
Shay merely smiled softly as her date led her to the Yellow Lion’s cockpit. She tightened her hand around Hunk’s palm and let him help her step into the cockpit. Once they were both secured inside, she was holding on to Hunk’s pilot seat and he promised to not drive too recklessly, they were on their way, Hunk tailing the Keith really closely.
He opened a communications link and hailed the Black Lion. They immediately picked up the call and Hunk beamed brightly at the sight of his ex-leader after not seeing each other in three years or so. It almost caught him off guard with how sophisticated Keith looked wearing a formal Altean suit and his hair tied together in a low-hanging ponytail.
“Long time no see! Welcome back to Earth!”
Keith smiled fondly, “Hunk, we’re a minute away from Earth, you could have waited to see us once we got off.”
“Well I wanted to be the first one to welcome you two back,” Hunk huffed. Then, when he noticed the absence of a certain Altean empress he blinked and asked, “Wait… where’s Allura?”
Suddenly, Allura’s muffled voice from behind Keith asked, “Is that Hunk?”
The door opened and Hunk could see Allura materialize from behind Keith wearing a regal sky blue dress with a slit on her mid-thigh and pooling at her feet. Her crown seemed to sparkle as she approached the pilot’s seat. However, her royal, serious persona broke for a moment when she realized that it was him and she squealed and jumped over Keith’s armrest so her face covered the whole screen just so she could get a good look at Hunk.
“Hello, Hunk! You’ve changed so much! You have a beard!”
Hunk chuckled and absent-mindedly brushed his hands through his close-shaven beard. Shay was immediately at his side and she beamed, “Allura! It’s so nice to see you!”
Allura beamed as well, “Hello, Shay! How is the Balmera doing?”
“It’s been doing fine! There aren’t that many crystals being harvested thanks to the Garrison’s studies. I don’t think it’s quintessence will have to replenished until this new year.”
Allura sighed, “Well, that’s a relief.”
“Not to interrupt our reunion,” Keith interrupted, “But we need to land.”
Hunk looked down at his monitor and agreed, “Keith’s right. I’ll see you guys at the hangar.”
“Copy that,” Keith answered and shut off the communications.
“I’m surprised he was so excited to see us,” Allura mused.
“Are you kidding?” Keith chuckled, “We’ve been separated for three years now. I was half expecting them to make the party on Altea this year just to see us.”
“Well, Hunk gave us a nice surprise. I wasn’t expecting to see them so soon after arriving at the Milky Way solar system.”
“It was,” Keith agreed, “It ruined the surprise, though.”
Allura chuckled, “It’s not ruined yet. Hunk can keep a secret.”
Keith gave her a look and she chuckled, “No, you’re right. The surprise is ruined.”
Keith smirked as she shifted Black’s controls to land on the hangar and sighed, “Well, get ready to be ambushed once we touch down. I can already see Pidge and Lance waiting for us down there.”
Allura smiled as she saw Pidge and Lance waving frantically at them, giggling as Lance almost tripped on his dress shoes, and Shiro was off the side, offering them a proud smile. She felt her heart soar with happiness. They were finally together again.
Once the two descended down the Black Lion’s hatch, they were immediately enveloped in a group hug that was long overdue. Keith smiled and returned the embrace. The group released their hug and Keith suddenly felt a big hand muss his hair up. He quickly fixed his hairdo and glared at Shiro, the bespectacled older man extremely amused and happy to see his “little brother”. Allura was then suddenly tackled and the group laughed as Romelle cried about missing her best friend.
Once they all were caught up, the team went inside and gaped at the decorations, talked with other officers, and made jokes on their way to the cafeteria that was serving as a ballroom for tonight. They were immediately occupied once they stepped foot inside. The press had a holiday taking pictures of them and asking questions over their relationship with their dates. Officers shook their hands, cadets asked for autographs and advice, and old comrades caught up.
Lance and Pidge stuck together, making jokes with Rizavi and Kinkade, talking with the Olkari of the newly planted Olkarion trees in the Garrison’s newest greenhouse, evading the press behind ridiculous hiding spots and making inside jokes on Iverson’s new mustache.
At one point, the two were doubling over when Pidge played audio from an age-old meme. At the first sound of a laughing man holding his chuckles in while saying, “Look at this dude…” Lance lost his quiznak and couldn’t hold his laughter, resulting in the both of them throwing their heads back in laughter.
Keith and Allura made their way towards the two best friends laughing the night away and Keith shook his head, “Can you two be quieter, you’re bringing more attention to yourselves.”
“But…But Keith,” Lance chuckled and patted his ex-leader’s shoulder, “You’ve gotta hear this.”
Pidge frantically turned on her phone to show Keith the audio and she waved him closer and gave them instructions, “Okay, look at Iverson as you hear this. Allura, you too.”
The pair leaned into Pidge’s phone and she played the audio. Within seconds, Keith had an amused smile on his face, obviously desperately trying to keep his composure together in front of such a big crowd, and Allura was in a fit of giggles.
“Yes, that audio recording does describe Commander Iverson very well,” she admitted.
Pidge and Lance held their hands over their mouths in an attempt to muffle their laughter, but to no avail; they were still the loudest ones. Allura smiled fondly at the pair and giggled, “It’s great that you two have finally opened up about your feelings and came together as a couple. I always believed you two were soulmates of a sort.”
The stopped their laughter, smiles still on their faces. However, once they processed Allura’s words, they immediately flushed and Pidge was quick to correct, “No, Allura. You got this all wrong. It’s just a friend thing. We’re not actually dating.”
Keith blinked at the two best friends and looked at Lance pointedly. Lance seemed sheepish and scratched the back of his head. However, Allura didn’t seem to catch the implication and she furrowed her brows and asked, “What? I thought that Lance asked you…”
“Would you look at that!” Keith interrupted, immediately grabbing Allura’s hand and starting to drag her away, “Mom’s here with Kolivan! Let’s go say hi.”
Allura turned around and saw a confused Pidge and a relieved Lance. She turned and questioned the man dragging her away, “Why hasn’t Lance asked her to be his girlfriend, yet? Didn’t he tell us he was going to ask her a month ago?”
Keith shrugged, “Beats me, but he seems pretty nervous tonight. I think he’s planning on doing it tonight. I don’t know he’s taking a long time to ask her.”
Allura looked down at their joined hands and frowned, raising a disbelieving brow at Keith, who wasn’t looking at her in the eyes. She tore her hand away from his grip, “Not as long as someone I know. I’ll welcome Kolivan and your mother by myself, thank you.”
Keith was left alone in the middle of the ballroom and his heart dropped. He hasn’t seen Allura that annoyed in years. He really messed up…but in what?
“Ouch,” said a voice right behind Keith. He turned around and saw Shiro smirking behind a glass of Nunvill. Keith crossed his arms as the older man continued, “That must’ve hurt.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Sure you do,” Shiro gave his empty glass to a caterer, “She’s mad at you for not making a move.”
Keith blinked, “What?”
“You have been working side by side with the princess for years now, Keith. I’m surprised you didn’t see a difference in how she looks at you.”
Keith turned around to watch Allura talking to his mom and turned back to face Shiro, “She’s… the same.”
Shiro sighed, “I guess she is, but not completely.”
Shiro bopped his head towards Curtis, who was talking with some old members of the ATLAS and his voice turned soft, “People change when they’re in love.”
Keith turned around towards Shiro with wide eyes, but the man continued, “I can see it in you too.”
Keith turned towards the Princess and felt a hand on his shoulder and Shiro left with a final whisper, “Go for it, hotshot.”
With a final, harsh pat on his shoulder, Shiro moved on to speak to another officer and left Keith alone with his thoughts. Keith bit his lip in concentration and took a deep breath. Maybe it was time to make a move. He composed himself and made his final decision.
He grabbed a glass of cider, he wasn’t fond of drinking yet, and he made his way towards the stunning Empress speaking with his mother. He waved at his mom and Kolivan before grabbing Allura’s arm and he whispered into her ear, “Do you want to talk on the balcony?”
Allura blinked owlishly before realizing what was happening after seeing Keith’s intense gaze and she smiled, taking a glass of Nunvill a caterer offered and looped her arm around Keith’s extended arm, “I’d be honored to.”
The duo left with a curt goodbye to the older Galrans and moved on to one of the Garrison’s balconies. On their way, they saw Hunk and Shay by the kitchen entrance, offering a wave to the cook and his helper as they left the party for a more quiet ambiance.
“Do you think they’re together, yet?” Shay asked Hunk, her voice small and hopeful.
Hunk shook his head, “Nah, I don’t think so. Keith still looks like a lost puppy every time Allura needs to leave his side.”
Shay giggled behind her hand as she watched the duo leave without anyone else noticing. She took a swig of the cider and she smiled when she saw some guests stuff their faces with a handful of Hunk’s newest creations.
“Looks like people like your créme hoisé from the Froylian belt.”
Hunk turned to face his helper and frowned, “You mean they like our créme hoisé. You helped me make that.”
Shay blinked, “I didn’t do much. I…”
“You were the inspiration for it! You always said you wanted to try hoisé as a custard. You explained it so vividly, I needed to try it out. It’s thanks to you that it’s so delicious too. I wouldn’t have known to put in more Froylian sugar if it wasn’t for you!”
Shay blinked and asked softly, “Is that really what you think of me?”
Hunk smiled, “It is. You’re the reason I continued being a Paladin.”
Shay’s eyes widened and her mouth hung open in surprise. Hunk looked down at his own plate of créme hoisé to avoid the bubble of embarrassment growing in his stomach. Then he inhaled and continued, “Honestly, Shay. You’re the most amazing girl I know. I’m so glad to have met you in the Balmera all those years ago. I…I want to know…would you…”
He was suddenly interrupted by lips against his cheek and a soft voice cheerfully exclaiming, “Yes!”
Hunk was wide-eyed in surprise but eventually shook it off and beamed brightly. He grabbed her hand and squeezed tightly, placing their foreheads together and the two giggled, safe in their own bubble of happiness.
Lance smiled, happy that his best friend finally confessed to Shay and he elbowed Pidge, “Hey, look at Hunk.”
Pidge turned and looked in the direction of their best friend and smiled, “It’s about time.” She crossed her arms in satisfaction.
“Yeah,” Lance agreed softly. He looked down at Pidge (he didn’t have to tilt his head down as much as he used to when they were still fighting the Galra) and smiled fondly at her beauty. His staring was quickly interrupted, though, when she suddenly turned around and grabbed his hand, her face beaming so brightly, Lance knows it’s something about technology.
“Do you want to go look at the robot I just finished?”
Lance knew he wasn’t going to understand the technical jargon she was going to be talking about once they walked inside and take a look, but he couldn’t say no to that face. He smiled and nodded, making Pidge’s face smile brighter than ever and she took his hand.
Together, they left the party and headed towards the lab.
Once inside, Lance saw an odd, soft looking robot sitting on a table. Pidge immediately went into “scientist mode” and swept through her lab like a hurricane. Turning on lights, monitors, and grabbing one of the holo-screens right out of the air and pressed a button.
Lance chuckled and stepped closer to his date, pocketing his hands and leaning into the holo-screen in her hands to try to make sense of the gibberish she has written on there. He was again reminded of the obvious intelligence gap between the two. He was fairly smart, but not enough to understand the engineering endeavors of the petite Italian before him.
Once she typed a few commands in, the robot was completely at her control and it came to life. Lance smiled as he watched Pidge typing up a storm in her tablet and excitedly waiting for the bot to move. It got up from its spot and moved over to an obstacle Pidge had set up. She stopped it and turned to him smugly, “Touch it.”
Lance blinked and rose a brow, “You want me to touch it?”
Pidge nodded and Lance did as told, running his hand over the hard surface of the machine in front of him. Pidge sidled up next to him, “It’s hard under there, right?”
Lance nodded, “Yeah.”
Pidge beamed, “Wait until you see this!”
With a push of a button, the robot continued on towards the obstacle with a small opening at the bottom and started squeezing through. Lance’s eyes almost bugged out as he watched. Once the bot was completely through, it returned to its regular size and Lance touched it again, almost freaking out when he realized it was still solid.
“Whoa! That’s insane! How’d you do that?”
When Pidge started to explain, Lance lifted up a hand, “Don’t answer that I’m just going to be more confused. But, jeez,” Lance ran a hand through his hair, watching the bot go back and forth between the obstacle, squeezing through swiftly and returning solid, “That’s amazing!”
Pidge beamed proudly at her date, but found herself flushing when Lance turned to look at her and he smiled softly, “You’re amazing.”
Pidge brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and she turned away, hoping to hide her growing blush from her best friend, “What are you talking about? I’ve done more amazing things than this, Lance.”
“That’s true,” Lance admitted, “But you deserve to have someone say it.”
Pidge sighed and put down her tablet and leaned on her desk, “Alright, what’s going on? What did you destroy this time?”
Lance scoffed, “What? I can’t flatter you without you assuming I ruined something?”
Pidge rose a brow and Lance chuckled and stepped closer, “I promise I didn’t break anything. I’m just… I’m trying to make you understand.”
Pidge played with her hair and asked, “Understand what?” Lance, however, didn’t stop stepping closer.
Pidge tried to move back, but as she placed her hand on the counter behind her, she had nowhere to go. Lance was almost pressed right against her and Pidge felt her face flush as Lance leaned in. Pidge blinked and looked down at his lips and back up to his eyes and whispered, “Lance?”
Lance looked down at her lips and whispered, “I need you to understand that this isn’t a ‘just a friend’ thing.”
Pidge froze and her eyes widened. Her eyes flashed down to look at his lips and then up to his eyes, gulping in anticipation. Lance placed his hands on her hips and he looked down at her with such intensity, Pidge’s mind became cloudy with emotion.
“I didn’t just ask you to the banquet as a ‘friend’.”
Pidge wet her lips.
“I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a long time. Last year, actually…”
“Just shut up and kiss me,” Pidge whispered, lifting a hand to cup his cheek and her fingers dove into his hair, pushing his face towards hers.
He complied and leaned down even more, finally placing his lips on hers. It was like a long-awaited water bottle in the middle of a marathon. It was like hearing the lunch bell in the middle of a lecture. It was like heaven. Pidge, despite having grown the past few years, was tilting her head up in an almost uncomfortable position, but the kiss was so worth it.
It took a while before the two finally separated and they just stood dazed and mussed up from their small session. And although the two feared that it would somehow be awkward if they ever tried to pursue something deeper between them. But it wasn’t the case. They felt at home.
Lance laid his forehead on hers and grinned. Pidge looked up and placed another peck on his lips, beaming up at him and eventually started to giggle. Lance laughed too and they sat on Pidge’s lab table laughing the night away as the fireworks of the New Years rang in the background.
“It’s about damn time,” Pidge laughed.
“You tell me,” Lance chuckled, pecking kisses along her jaw and her cheeks.
Pidge smiled and dug her hand into his hair. She nuzzled her face on the crook of his neck as Lance left soft peck on hers and she whispered, “Happy New Year, Lance.”
He pulled away and looked down at her with a sparkle in his eyes. “Happy New Year, Katie,” he leaned in for another kiss, the two in such a state of bliss they could care less about going out to congratulate their friends on the New Year. They have denied their feelings for years, they’ll celebrate the New Year after they’ve made up for lost time.
Down the hall, there was a very different atmosphere. On the balcony, wrapped in each others’ arms, Keith and Allura were enveloped in a passionate, confused kiss. Allura contributed the confusion in this circumstance. One second, she was watching the fireworks celebrating the New Year; next, Keith wrapped his arms around her and gently placed his lips on hers.
It wasn’t like she hadn’t wanted to kiss him senseless for years now, but she was sort of hoping that the old Altean fairytales her mother told her as a kid rung some truth. Well, if this was her knight in shining armor, she wasn’t going to complain.
Keith let go after a while and got off her quickly, looking away to hide his embarrassment. She blinked in surprise and confusion, watching him look away with a guilty look.
“I’m sorry,” she could hear him whisper.
She took his hand in hers and whispered back, “Why?”
Keith turned to look her in the eyes. She almost gasped in awe at how intense and warm his gaze was, how soft it was. He looked down at her intertwined hands and back up at her.
Again, she whispered, “Why now?”
Keith decided to take a step towards her again so they could share the same intimacy they shared moments ago and lifted a hand to her cheek, brushing away her bangs and stuffing them behind her ears, removing his hand after. Her skin tingled with his touch.
“I’m sorry.”
He intertwined their other hands and leaned down to nuzzle his face on the crook of her neck. She let go of his hands and dug her hands into his scalp and asked, “Keith?”
With a sigh, Keith asked, “Would you be mine?”
Allura blinked and smiled at the man blushing against her neck. She fought against the urge to giggle. Keith wasn’t a man of many words, except when it came to speeches, but he said a lot through his actions. And this, wasn’t typical Keith behavior, so she knew he was nervous.
She nuzzled into him and whispered, “Of course I will.”
She would have laughed when she felt him smile against her neck, but the kiss that followed soon after made her forget all about her amusement. Especially after he started licking and nipping her neck.
She gasped in surprise and Keith took this opportunity to cradle her jaw with his hands and plant a line of kisses along her jaw before reaching her mouth. He pulled away and smirked, all embarrassment long gone after hearing Allura gasp like that, and was about to land the finishing blow when the balcony doors burst open and one of Allura’s advisors, Merla, he thinks, stepped in.
“Empress Allura, Commander Shirogane is requesting your presence along with Paladin Kei- Oh my!”
The couple jumped away from each other in an effort to play off the exchange as a delusion if Merla questioned it. However, Merla already saw all she needed to see. Especially since Keith’s lips were stained with Allura’s berry red lipstick and her neck was turning purple with small nicks here and there.
“I-I will take my leave!”
Merla quickly turned on her heel and closed the doors behind her. She took a moment to process what she just saw and shook her head in amusement as she remembered their panicked faces. If she wasn’t so shocked, she would’ve taken the chance to tease the empress and Paladin Keith before she left them to their own devices again.
She crossed her arms and smiled as she made her way to Dr. Holt’s lab to call Paladin Lance and Paladin Pidge to the ballroom. It was about time the two did something about the tension between them. However, she didn’t think it was going to blow up so passionately between the two.
She reached Dr. Holt’s lab and scanned her hand, waiting for the clearance to open the door. However, once it did, she found a similar view waiting for her behind the door.
Pidge was sat on her lab table, legs wrapped around Lance’s waist. Lance’s head was on her neck, something Mera knows isn’t as innocent as it looks, and his hands on her waist and her neck.
The two looked at her and blinked in surprise. Merla just started laughing and shut the door. She would have to tell Paladin Shiro that they were, ahem, preoccupied.

Note
Kallura superhero au where Allura is the hero and Keith is the reporter type character trying to solve this conspiracy or whatever
A/N: @dragonwatergirl also asked for a superhero au so figured I’d kill two birds with one stone. Also Happy Kallura Positivity Day!
The perfect story has fallen into Keith’s lap, likeliterally fell into his arms and is now on his couch. This could catapult hiscareer and confirm everything he’s been speculating, researching, formulatingfor a while now.
All he has to do is take off the mask.
He bends down and his hand hesitates, hovers over her concealedface, fingers gently grazing the bridge of her nose before jerking away. Hebacks up and paces, biting at his thumb nail glancing back as her chest risesand falls.
Keith’s been covering Oriande for a while, the local legendof Garrison City. The citizens call her a hero, the police dub her a vigilanteand to the criminals of course she’s a menace. He’s followed her more closelythan any journalist at the Marmora Star, purely voluntary, and if it wasn’t forthe fact that his stories are so damn good and captivating his boss would havereassigned him ages ago.
This is partly because Keith is a good writer, no doubt, butalso because Oriande has allowed him to get close. After what felt like the 800thtime of Keith getting a little too near the action and his behind needingsaving, she decided to have a little mercy by giving him crumbs, tidbits sothat he’d stay at a respectable distance and actually let  her do her job.
Tonight is one such night where Keith did what he does best,get in the way, and Oriande took a blow, shielding him during a laboratoryexplosion. For the first time it was his turn to save her and knowing he couldn’tvery well take her to the hospital she now lays on his sofa, battered, bandagedand unconscious. He studies her fitted white bodysuit with gold plating on thechest, wrists and white knee high boots. Her staff and utility belt rest on hiscoffee table.
He realizes he’s staring, lingering for too long so he dartsinto the kitchen to fix himself a drink, take a breather. When he returns, sippingwhiskey from a rocks glass, he nearly chokes to find the couch empty. He nearlydrops the cup, quickly setting it on the table with a shaking hand beforedarting to each room of his tiny bachelor pad. Light pouring out from hisbathroom into the hallway should have been the obvious first stop but Keith’snot thinking straight at the moment.
“That’s gonna leave a mark” Oriande hisses, staring at herreflection in the mirror.
The side of her outfit is all torn up and tinged with dirtand blood from the blast. Keith patched her up the best he could but some ofher skin is still exposed including the hint of a small lion tattoo that hetries desperately to memorize before he’s caught ogling.
“How are you feeling?” he asks assoon as her eyes meet his in the mirror.
“Not great, but not dead so…silverlining.” She smirks. “Thank you for, all this.”
“No problem. Sorry it’s such a crappyjob.”
“No no, I like the Sesame Streetband-aids, it’s a nice touch.” She chuckles and the sound of her laugh setsKeith ablaze with an odd warm fluttering feeling that he suddenly realizes isthe same sensation he gets whenever she’s even remotely close to him.
“I just grabbed what was on sale”Keith fumbles with his excuses.
“Mhm. Well thank you. I should getgoing though.” She slides by him to head back toward the living room.
“Wait!” His hand shoots out andcatches her by the wrist. “You should stay and rest a bit more.”
Oriande looks at him and herexpression softens before slipping her hand from his grasp, slowly in a waythat allows their fingers to tangle and brush.
“I’ll be ok, promise.”
She saunters to the coffee tableand picks up her belt, securing it around her waist then grabbing her staff.She presses a button and it contracts into something smaller that she tucksinto one of the slots on the belt.
“Do me a favor?” Oriande asksstanding at his back door. “When you write about tonight, because I know you will,maybe leave the part out where I passed out and bled on your couch. Just doesn’tsound as cool y’know?”
A grin creeps on Keith’s face andhe nods.
“Deal.”
She flashes him a wink and disappearsinto the night leaving him breathless and buzzing with the adrenaline of havingher in his house. Keith lets out a heavy sigh and drags his hands through hishair as he goes back to pacing the room attempting to calm down. Back and forthhe strides before something catches his attention on his very own wall.
Keith’s not much for interiordesign but he’s very proud of his photo gallery wall, especially given theamount of time he spent pressing a level against every frame to make sure not asingle one was crooked.
He zeros in a particular photo deadcenter. He’s killing it in a black on black suit at a charity ball withGarrison City’s finest and most prominent in attendance. Keith is on the left,in the center  his best friend who justso happens to also be the young handsome CEO of Shirogane Tech and on the rightthe daughter of the mayor Allura Altea.
He’s reminded of how stunning shewas that night, especially in that body hugging red dress with the teasingcutouts on the sides. He recalls the way he slyly stole glances at said peeksof skin and was pleasantly surprised to find at the time that the prim andproper daughter of a politician had a tattoo visible from one of said cutouts.
Keith’s eyes widen and he quicklyyanks the photo off the wall and runs back into the bathroom to get a clearerlook in the light. It’s small and he really has to focus but it looks like alion. He’d swear on it.
“Holy shhh…”
He doesn’t finish his sentence ashe’s too busy pulling his phone from his pocket and frantically dialing,thanking the gods that a previous interview during the mayor’s campaign seasonhas allowed him to even have the cell phone number he’s now calling. His heartraces as he listens to the ringing before a familiar voice cuts through.
“M-Mr. Kogane? To what do I owesuch a late night phone call?”
“Miss Altea? Hi, uh, this is KeithKogane, well I guess you knew that. Heh, um, I was just…” he didn’t think thisthrough, “I was wondering if I could meet with you to uh…to interview you about…the…newchildren’s center?”
“Hmm? Your colleague Miss Holtalready interviewed me concerning the center’s opening last week.”
Her pretty British accent fills hisears and he admires how well she hides it as Oriande.
“Yes! Right! But she asked me toget some follow up questions while she’s…out sick!”
“Oh, well all right. Perhaps overdinner then?” She sounds tired but there’s still a playful lilt in her voice.
“Yes, dinner, tomorrow night?”
“Eager. Can we make it Friday? I’mfeeling a bit under the weather myself.”
He smirks knowingly.
“Yeah Friday is great. Vrepit Sal’sat 7?”
“Sounds lovely. I’ll see you then.Goodnight Mr. Kogane.”
“Night.”
Keith hangs up and holds the phoneto his chest which is now doing a drum solo. He knows who she is. He knowsOriande’s identity, or he’s at least 99% sure of it. He hasn’t decided exactly how or even if he’s going to confront her withwhat he’s discovered, he just knows he absolutely cannot wait to see her.
Friday can’t come soon enough.

Battle Scar
Summary: Scars can cut deep and not just physically into the skin. Pidge finds herself forced to confront a memory when Lance catches sight of a scar she had previously kept hidden. But maybe… maybe this is for the best.
-
“Whoa, Pidgeon, what is that?”
Pidge let out a sound between a shriek and a bellow, whirling around and hands grasping at her towel.
“Don’t you fucking knock?” she screeched, backpedaling across the expanse of the bathroom, face flaming. “Jesus Christ, Lance!”
He held up his hands. “Hey, you’re the one who forgot to flip the sign. But, uh,” his head was angled away now and even though Pidge had put several yards between them she could make out the blush highlighting his cheeks. “Um, I, um…”
“I forgot the sign?” Pidge repeated, clarifying.
Lance let out a tiny squeak, eyes still averted towards the ceiling.
She sighed. They’d put the sign that flipped between a figure that she and Lance had doodled to sort of look like her and then on the opposite side the guys’ as she had turned down Allura’s offer to move to a separate hallway and thus have her own bathroom. She was supposed to turn the sign to her side when she was in the bathroom but she’d been in such a hurry that morning, head spinning with a new idea to modulate the flux capacitors, that she had apparently forgotten.
Again.
Normally though the worst was someone walking in while she was at the sink brushing her teeth or washing her face.
Not freshly out of the shower and wrapped in a towel.
Her cheeks, which had been returning to normal in the face of Lance’s own blush, heated up again.
Damn it.
“You don’t have to apologize,” she put out. “It’s my fault. Sorry.”
He squeaked again, eyes still pointed up.
Pidge’s lips quirked despite herself. “What? You stare first and now you can’t even look at me?”
“I wasn’t staring,” Lance protested, voice still high. “Well, not at… at,” his hands wiggled over his chest and down his torso in some horrible caricature of curves.
Pidge snorted and crossed the bathroom towards the sinks and Lance.
Now that the surprise had worn off it was no different really than walking about the house with Matt around and the towel was more than secure and dropped almost to her knee, minus a small panel that revealed a bit of her upper leg when she walked.
Besides, she felt her cheeks trying to darken again, the best way to deal with embarrassment was to face it head on. If she refused to be self-conscious about the whole thing then it would blow over much quicker than tiptoeing around Lance for the next week, although she knew for all his flirtations he really was quite the gentleman. Still, she was embarrassed and she wanted to nip that in the bud.
After a few moments of quiet he tentatively joined her at the counter, toothbrush in hand.
She met his gaze in the mirror, raising an eyebrow, and to her surprise he met it with a more serious look than she expected considering his cheeks were still dusted pink.
“What?” she asked, it coming out a bit sharper than she intended.
Lance dropped his gaze. “Nothing.”
They were both quiet then, the only sounds those of brushing and the Altean toothpaste foaming in their mouths more than any Earth equivalent was capable of.
They both spat at the same time.
Lance caught Pidge’s eye, foam all over his chin and Pidge grinned back, a dash on her upper lip.
They burst into laughter and just like that Pidge felt the awkwardness fade away, reaching out and flicking a burst of water at Lance.
He yelped but did not retaliate.
Pidge smirked. He chose his battles wisely. Well, this one at least.
“So?” she asked as he rinsed the sink out.
“...so?”
“What were you looking at?”
She had to know. Because generally one didn’t screech “what is that?” without some sort of trigger and if made a comment about her hair, which when wet hung long and she felt a pang of loss at her longer locks, she would slug him.
“Oh, um…”
“Spit it out.”
“Scar,” Lance blurted, face coloring a moment later. “Your, um, scar,” he said softer. “On your leg.”
Pidge glanced down, catching the barest glimpse of the dark line that cut along the whole length of her outer right thigh. Lance must have seen it when she had been walking and the towel had shifted.
“Oh,” she said softly. “That.”
She knew exactly what he was talking about.
“I’m sorry, that was super rude of me,” Lance babbled. “I didn’t mean to look, I promise. I just saw it and I didn’t know you had a scar and it looked painful and it probably was painful and it’s none of my business but I was worried and that’s silly because it’s a scar and it shouldn’t hurt anymore unless it does hurt but then—”
Pidge reached out and clapped a hand over Lance’s mouth, hot breath tingling on her palm. “Breathe,” she ordered, because Lance was starting to actually turn a little blue from lack of oxygen in his whirlwind.
“It doesn’t hurt,” she said, removing her hand and wiping it with an exaggerated grimace on the side of her towel.  She rolled her shoulders, averting her gaze. “I don’t actually know how I got it.”
That wasn’t entirely truthful. She knew when she got it.
She’d never forget.
The omission hung in the air and she could feel Lance’s confusion and concern but he didn’t ask again. Pidge appreciated that about him. For as hands-on and obnoxious as Lance could be he did always know when to take a step back, unlike a certain engineer of whose middle name Pidge was sure was ‘Nosy.’
Her hand brushed against her thigh, hidden beneath the towel. Even then she could almost feel the slight pucker of skin that had not healed properly.
She didn’t mean just physically.
There was an ache that had never fully faded even once the wound had scabbed and then scarred.
She’d lied.
It did still hurt.
Even thinking about what happened hurt.
She must have made some expression because the next moment Lance was murmuring, voice low, “Oh, Pidge, c’mere.” He opened his arms wide and she stepped into his gentle hug, his hands very carefully wrapping about her back. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I was stupid, okay?”
Her hands rose up to clutch at his jacket and she shook her head. “You’re not stupid,” she whispered. “I just…” she swallowed. “No one else knows about it. I…”
“You don’t have to talk about it,” Lance said gently. “I’m sorry for bringing it up. It’s obviously something that—”
“I got it when Sendak invaded the castle,” she interrupted, words spilling from her lips.
Lance’s hands, which had been gently tracing soft circles on her towel-clad back stilled.
She swallowed. Cat was out of the bag now.
“I don’t know how,” she said, “really. Maybe when I was in the vents, maybe when I attacked Sendak, maybe when Hax—” she cut off on the name, closing her eyes. It hadn’t been her, not really, who had killed the Galran soldier, but she still felt responsible.
She hadn’t talked much about that either.
Lance’s arms tightened about her.
“I didn’t realize I was hurt till later,” she continued quietly. “And… and you were so… so…”
She would never forget the image of Lance lying so still, both immediately following the explosion and then when she’d run into the control room to try and free him and Shiro.
Lance should never be that still.
Even when he’d regained consciousness enough to shoot Sendak, to briefly talk to them, he’d lost it again soon after when he’d tried to stand with Keith’s help and his eyes had rolled back in his head and he’d collapsed without a sound to the ground.
Pidge had been so scared.
They’d loaded Lance into a suit, into a cryo-pod of whose technology was completely foreign to her, and he’d been floating in the tube for the better part of day, so still even then although at least his face had been smooth and free of pain.
She honestly hadn’t realized she’d been hurt until after Lance was in the pod and she’d gone to her room to change, finding the bloody gash. She hadn’t wanted to bother Coran as he cared for Lance and had no desire to seek out any medical attention from the others, and so had gingerly washed it and then wrapped a bandage about it.
She hadn’t give it much attention other than to change the bandage and dot an antiseptic cream she snatched from the infirmary later to prevent an infection.
She honestly wasn’t surprised it had scarred given her lack of care to it. It felt right in a way, to have a reminder of what had happened. Of what had happened to… to Haxus. And Rover. Even now she felt a pang at the loss of her robot who had been her early confidant up in space.
She kept it covered, hidden, trying to forget it and the memories it represented.
She would never forget those yellow eyes widening with horrified panic as he fell.
“I’m sorry,” Lance apologized softly, “for worrying you. And I’m… I’m sorry about what you had to do to protect us.” His hands lifted from her back and Pidge found them settling on her shoulder, pushing her slightly back and then one tipping up her chin.
Dark ocean eyes peered into her own, a compassion and softness she wasn’t sure she’d ever seen from Lance before. “Thank you. For saving all of us. For saving me.”
She sniffled.
“And that scar?” Lance continued, holding her gaze. “It’s a battle scar telling the universe how absolutely brave and amazing you are. Okay?”
“But,” she licked her lips. “But Hax—… that Galran, he…”
“You did what you had to,” Lance told her, thumbs rubbing circles now on her shoulders. “And Rover did too. He wanted to protect you, Pidge and he did, just like you did for all of us.”
Pidge’s lips parted in surprise.
She hadn’t ever thought of it quite like that.
Rover had protected her. Not just from Haxus’ attacks but from her having to… to more permanently stop him herself.
He’d done that for her.
So that she could then pull herself together to protect everyone else.
She bowed her head, pressing the crown against Lance’s chest. “Thank you,” she whispered, not sure it conveyed enough but Lance gave her shoulders a gentle squeeze in understanding.
Pidge smiled.
She had nothing to hide anymore.

Chapter 6: Farewell
If Shiro had to pick one thing that surprised him the most about dating Keith and Pidge, it had to be how unexpectedly affectionate Keith could get at times. A close second was how easy it was to entice Pidge away from her work, which he seemed to recall being more like pulling teeth.
Mornings brought sweet kisses from Pidge whenever he returned from his run. Afternoons were filled with cuddling on the couch and talking to Keith, tactfully asking whatever he could about the future he'd wound up in. The flirting over dinner was always fun, and Shiro delighted in the ways he could get Keith to turn red or send Pidge into an unexpected coughing fit. And while he didn't yet feel bold enough to join them in bed, Shiro knew that as time went on it would be harder and harder to resist.
Shiro sighed as he rested his head in Keith's lap, enjoying the way the other man ran his fingers through his hair. “Tell me more about Lance and Allura's kids?”
“Well, there are five of them,” Keith said, and Shiro snorted in amusement. “What, that's not enough? I'm starting to think you're just using me for illegal future knowledge.”
Shiro could tell from his tone that he was just kidding, but he rolled over onto his back anyway. He reached up and caught Keith's hands in his own, bringing it down to press butterfly kisses against his fingertips. “I'd never.”
Keith stared down at him in amusement. “Uh huh. Okay, Leo's the oldest and is almost seven now. He's pretty determined that he's going to be the next Blue paladin, and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he is. He's a handful, that's for sure. Maribel and Melenor are twin girls. We used to call them the little princesses, but now they insist on being knights. Alanna, though, loves it. Of course, she's only two, so everything's fun to her as long as she can do whatever she wants. And Alfor's barely one, so nothing really keeps his attention except for food goo, because he can play with it and eat it without someone telling him 'no'. It's always pretty crazy over there when we visit for birthdays. Fun, but crazy. And loud.”
“Not really your thing?”
Keith shrugged. “Growing up, it was just me and my dad. Things were nice and quiet. And Pidge only had Matt, so it's a lot for her too.” He threaded his fingers together with Shiro's and let their joined hands rest over Shiro's heart. “Pidge told me you saw the crib.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” Shiro asked.
“I think she pretty much summed it up. We both want a kid one day, but right now isn't the right time,” Keith said. “There's still so much risk to what we do. I could never... I never want them to go through what I did.”
Shiro sat up so he could properly face Keith. “That would never happen. There are so many people in your life who would take them in, raise them with stories of the two of you. Pidge's parents would. Matt would. Allura and Lance. Hunk and Shay... Me.”
“You'd be a great dad, Shiro,” Keith said softly.
“And you and Pidge would be amazing parents. It's alright to be afraid of what the future holds, but if it's something you both want...” Shiro paused, frowning. “Is it something you want?”
“More than I've ever wanted anything,” Keith admitted.
Shiro leaned forward and kissed Keith on the forehead. “I'm glad. There's nothing that I want more than for the two of you to be happy.”
“Is that why you said yes?”
“No,” Shiro said with a shake of his head and a small smile. “I said yes because it's something I want.”
Keith relaxed slightly. “...but you still plan on leaving.”
“Yes.”
Keith lowered his gaze, not knowing what else to say.
“Keith, if all I get are a few months of happiness with you and Pidge, it's worth it. Going back and changing things is worth it, if it means you don't have to know the pain of losing another person you care about.” Shiro reached out and tilted up Keith's head. “I'd rather have this time with you than wonder for the rest of my life what it would be like.”
Pidge's words echoed back to Keith. “It could be a month or a year. But just for a while, we could try?”
Keith's tongue darted out to wet his lips. Any time with Shiro was precious, and while a few months would never be enough for Keith, he knew when to admit that they were right. If he didn't take advantage, he would regret it.
He leaned in slowly, his eyes fluttering shut as Shiro met him halfway. Their lips brushed together, parting briefly, and then Keith pressed forward. He could feel Shiro smile into their kiss.
“You should spend more time with Shiro.”
Pidge glanced up at Keith and then went back to her work. “I will. I'm just so close to... to, um...” She stopped what she was doing and fully turned around to face her husband, taking note of his unusually mussed hair with some amusement. “Are you sure you don't want to spend more time with him on your own? You look like you're having a good time.”
Keith flushed. “I am, but it's not right if you're not part of this too. You're so focused on your research that you haven't spent any time with him.”
A rush of guilt flooded her at his words. It was true; she'd been so wrapped up with her promise to find a way for him to go back that she'd let it consume her. Aside from shared meals and their brief morning greetings, she'd barely spent any time with him. And it wasn't like she was eager to send him away! She just wanted him to have the chance to choose for himself for once. He deserved that, after everything he'd been through.
Pidge glanced back at her computer and the algorithms she's written with help from Slav. They were almost perfect.
'It wouldn't hurt to take a break,' she mused to herself as she made sure her work was saved. Then she stood, wincing at the way her spine cracked in protest. She walked over to Keith and stood on tiptoe to kiss him. “Well, I can't let you have all the fun,” she murmured as she pulled away.
Keith chuckled and chased after her for another quick kiss. “Go. Get out of the house for a while.”
“What will you do?” Pidge asked.
“Probably clean up all of my tools that Kosmo's been using as chew toys. Maybe work on the bike for a bit,” Keith replied.
With one last kiss shared between them, Pidge set of to find Shiro and invite him for a leisurely walk. It wouldn't be a long one - nature was the Green Lion's element, not her own – but she couldn't deny that it was nice to get out of the house for a little while, especially when it meant getting to hold Shiro's hand as they strolled along.
“How's your research?” Shiro asked kindly.
“It's going well. It took a while to get Slav-” (Shiro made a face.) “-to stay on topic, but now that he knows I'm serious about it, there's no getting him to shut up about alternate realities and the flow of space-time,” Pidge grumbled. “I just have to make sure our calculations are correct and then I can start testing. Well, and actually build the time machine.” She frowned, scrunching up her nose. “It's going to need a better name. Like... like...”
“A time portal?” Shiro suggested.
Pidge hummed as she considered it. “That does sound better, but it's still not right. Time portal makes me think of something that lets you see different points in time, not travel to them.” She glanced up at him suddenly unsure of their conversation. Shiro didn't look like he minded it, but there had to be something more pleasant for them to talk about. Something that would be less of a reminder of how short their time together was.
Shiro squeezed her hand. “Maybe you could show me some of your designs, if you've started on them.”
“I might have a few,” Pidge said.
She had every intention of showing him her notebook full of designs. Really, she did. But somewhere along the way they ended up making out instead, and that was so much nicer than talking about time travel.
Pidge gasped as Shiro lifted her up, giving her little option but to wrap her legs around his waist for better stability. Her arms were already around his neck, her fingers entangled in his hair. It felt so undeniably good, but there was a quiet voice at the back of her mind telling her to slow down a little. There was something missing.
She made a throaty sound as Shiro swooped down and captured her lips in a deep kiss, losing herself in pleasure for a few minutes longer. “Wait,” she gasped as he drew back to catch his breath. “Wait.”
Shiro gently eased her down onto the bed, and while he didn't move away from her, he didn't push any further. “I'm sorry. It's too fast. I shouldn't-”
Pidge pressed a finger against his lips, cutting him off. “Trust me, it's not too fast and you have nothing to apologize for.” She slowly lowered her hand, trailing her finger down over his jaw and then back around his neck, keeping him right where she wanted him. “Have either of us told you how we got together?”
“A giant robot lion and an intergalactic war?” Shiro guess.
“Ha. Cute. I mean it, Shiro. Keith's never mentioned it to you?”
Shiro shook his head. “I think he's been waiting for me to ask. I... I haven't wanted to. It only reminds him.”
“Two years after you disappeared, we were celebrating. We'd just delivered a massive blow to Sendak's forces and chased him away from Earth. There was a little drinking. I think I remember Lance attempting a striptease. Hunk says I fell over myself flirting with Allura, but I'm sure he was just exaggerating.” She shrugged at Shiro's questioning look. “I have eyes, Shiro. Anyway, that's not the point. What I do remember is Keith walking me back to my room. And then not leaving.”
It was a good memory; one she would always cherish. It may not have been the most conventional way to start a lasting relationship, but she wouldn't complain. Besides, she thought they handled the whole thing maturely.
“And you started dating after that?”
“No, then we started sleeping together regularly,” Pidge corrected. “Eight months after that, we had our first official date.”
Shiro chuckled in amusement and pressed his lips to her forehead. “No wonder you don't think this is rushing. At least we're dating.”
A giggle burst free from Pidge's throat. Leave it to Shiro to treat even unusual circumstances as though they were perfectly normal. Though she couldn't help but wonder how he would have reacted had he still been with them when the team found out. (Matt, for example, had done his best to put Keith through a wall when he found out. It'd taken Allura, Hunk, and Lance to pull him away.)
She pulled Shiro down onto the bed with her, using his surprise to her advantage so she could flip him on his back and straddle his waist. Pidge grinned down at him.
Shiro's hands settled on her hips. “And what will you do with me now, Katie?”
Pidge swallowed, trying not to let it show how affected she was by the use of her real name. “Now... now I think I'll keep you here like this. It'll make a nice surprise for Keith.”
Shiro's eyes glittered with anticipation.
It was with great reluctance that Pidge dragged herself out of bed the next morning, moving slowly so she wouldn't wake Keith or Shiro. She dressed herself and then took a moment to look at them, smiling at the way Shiro had latched onto Keith in his sleep.
How had she gotten so lucky? Shiro fit together with them so well, like a puzzle piece they didn't know they'd been missing.
What were they going to do once he was gone?
She shook her head to clear herself of such gloomy thoughts and quietly made her way out of the room and downstairs to get started on breakfast. If she was lucky, they would sleep in for once and she could surprise them with breakfast in bed. (She doubted they would, but it was nice to dream.)
As she was gathering what she needed, the doorbell rang.
Pidge frowned as she set a pan on the counter. She could hear the sound of someone rolling out of bed upstairs, their feet hitting the floor hard. “I'll get it!” she called out, giving them extra time to prepare for their guest.
She took her time getting to the door, wondering who was there at such an early hour. It wasn't like they had neighbors and Matt always called ahead before showing up. She got her answer when she opened the door to see Hunk, Lance, and Allura on the other side.
“What are you guys doing here?” Pidge asked bluntly, nowhere near awake enough for pleasantries.
“We've been worried about you,” Allura said. “You and Keith have been holed up here for months except for missions. And Hunk says you've been talking to Slav about alternate realities or something.”
Pidge groaned and stepped aside, wordlessly inviting them inside. 'Damn you, Slav.'
'Sorry,' Hunk mouthed at her as he passed, offering her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder.
Pidge led them to the kitchen, where Hunk noticed her beginnings of making breakfast and automatically took charge of it, partly out of habit and partly to have an excuse to not actively participate in whatever Allura and Lance had planned.
“So what's so important that you had to show up at seven in the morning?” Pidge asked.
“It's like Allura said, you and Keith have just been sitting out here for months. You didn't even come to my birthday!” Lance said.
“We called and sent a gift,” Pidge replied, crossing her arms over her chest. “We just want some peace and quiet for a bit, that's all. That's why we built our house all the way out here.”
Lance mimicked her stance. “Yeah, but this is something different. I can feel it.”
“Well maybe it's none of your business!”
Allura stepped between them before they could really start yelling. “Okay, that's enough. Pidge, I'm sorry we came so early and without telling you. We really have been worried and just wanted to see if there's anything we can help with. You've both been so quiet lately and then I heard about you working on a project with Slav and... And it just seemed so unlike you to stay quiet about something, is all.”
Pidge's anger deflated as Allura calmly spoke. She couldn't really fault them for getting worried. They had been distancing themselves since they found Shiro.
“I have been working on something, I just didn't want to say anything because I wasn't sure if it would work,” Pidge said, picking her words carefully. She wasn't going to lie to them, but she couldn't tell the full truth either. “The only reason Slav is involved is because he knows more about it than I do and I needed the help.”
Lance fidgeted and then opened his mouth. “I think Keith's cheating on you.”
“Lance!” Allura snapped, whirling around to face her husband.
“What the fuck, Lance?” Keith growled from the stairway. He stalked into the kitchen towards the other man, fury radiating from his very being. “Why would you ever think something like that? I love Katie!”
Any other time, Pidge would have tried to intervene in whatever fight they picked with each other, but for once she though Lance deserved whatever Keith was about to do. In fact, she might actually help.
Hunk broke away from cooking to stop Keith before he could do anything he would later regret. “Keith, what Lance said is wrong, but can we stop and cool down for a second? Everyone?”
“Or at least let him explain why he'd say something so stupid before you punch him,” Pidge said.
“Yes, exact- wait, no,” Hunk corrected himself, frowning at Pidge. “No punching. Lance, explain.”
Lance looked around helplessly, as if he'd just become aware that he wasn't getting any backup. “Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said it like that. I just... I just had this feeling that there was something weird the last time we formed Voltron and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it! You know how we can kind of pick up on strong thoughts and feelings when we're together like that?”
“So... you think Keith has strong feelings for someone who isn't me?” Pidge tried to make sense of what Lance was saying.
“Yes! That!”
Pidge turned her gaze to Keith, who had calmed down enough that he no longer looked as though he was seconds away from decking Lance. And while she was still angry that he assumed such an awful thing, it was interesting that he'd picked up on their anxiety over Shiro.
She walked over to join Keith, waving Hunk away back to his cooking, so they could face their friends together. “Should we tell them?” she asked quietly.
After a moment of contemplation, Keith nodded.
Pidge took a deep breath. “Keith and I have a boyfriend.”
Their reactions were instantaneous. Hunk fumbled with a spatula and nearly dropped it on the floor. Lance's mouth hung open in shock. Allura choked on air as she gasped.
There was a beat of silence before Hunk recovered enough to say: “You know I was only joking about the harem thing, right, Pidge?”
“And don't you think I would have picked Allura first if that was my plan?” Pidge joked back. “And Lance too, I guess. Packaged deal and all.”
“I am never dating Lance,” Keith grumbled.
“I know, dear.”
“Boyfriend?” Lance squeaked. “What-? But who?”
“Me,” Shiro said, taking that as his cue to step out of the stairway and into the kitchen, giving their friends a second heart-attack in the span of a few minutes.
As before, there was a period of silence before all hell broke loose and their friends mobbed him, talking too fast for anyone to get a word in. Hunk was sobbing as he threw his arms around Shiro. Lance, tearing up even as he cursed Pidge and Keith for keeping it a secret. And Allura, openly weeping as she tried to confirm that it really was him.
It was some time later that they all sat down together, food forgotten as Pidge and Keith explained the events leading up to their unexpected visit that morning. Some things – the more intimate details – were naturally left out, as was Pidge's pursuit of a way to send him back.
“So you didn't want to tell us because...?” Lance prodded.
“Because Pidge is building a time machine,” Hunk said, his eye widening with realization. “That's why you're working with Slav! It's not alternate realities you're interested in, it's the flow of space-time!”
Pidge nodded.
“You're not staying?” Allura asked Shiro, sounding disappointed.
“I have to go back, if it's possible. I want to change things. Not everything, but...” He hesitated, looking at Keith. “But more than that, there's so much I missed out on. I want to be there to see your children born, Allura. I want to be there for all of you. For the good times and the bad.”
Allura's smile was a sad one. “You know it might not change things for us. It could just create an alternate reality.”
“I know. I still want to try. Even if it is another version of all of you, it's still you. It's a Keith who didn't have to spend ten years searching. A Pidge who didn't have to give up on a friend.”
Allura reached across the table to take his hand. “Alright. Then whatever you need in order to go back, let me know.” She turned to Pidge, who looked as though she was seconds away from crying. “We're here to help. Any time.”
With their friends on board to lend a hand, Pidge finished up the Time Transporter much sooner than she expected. What she predicted would take another six or eight months on her own, only took three, even with testing and building the machine itself.
The day before was dreary and overcast, perfect for the somber atmosphere of Shiro's farewell dinner. They'd all wanted the chance to say goodbye, but had agreed the day he left would be just Shiro, Keith, and Pidge.
Stories were swapped, from the times before Shiro's disappearance and more than a few through the years he'd missed. Mostly silly stories. Lance reminisced about the fun times on the Castle of Lions, like the food goo fight and the squishy asteroids. (Or even that one time the castle tried to kill them all.) Allura's stories of a houseful of half-Altean children and an offhand remark that maybe there was room for another. Keith's countless tales of Kosmo's antics when they all lived on the Atlas and how he would team up with Baebae to wreak havoc. Hunk, gushing over Shay and their baby boy, Vayren. Pidge had a number of stories about Matt and her family, carefully chosen to not reveal too much.
There were no dry eyes when Hunk, Allura, and Lance left that night.
The next morning dawned clear and bright, drying out the wetness from the day before. No one could stomach much of a breakfast and it wasn't long before the three of them were standing in the backyard.
Pidge knelt down to make sure the Time Transporter was set correctly, as well as to give herself a moment to collect herself. She knew if she looked at Shiro she'd never be able to get the words out. “Remember, I can't send you back to the exact moment you left, in case I overshoot and you go back too far. Your best chance is getting sent back ten years from this moment.” She stopped to rub her eyes and then stood up, her voice breaking. “It's set to target Keith. You'll show up wherever he is in the past.”
“Oh, Katie,” Shiro said softly, wrapping her up in his arms. “It'll be okay. You'll see me soon. I know it. Everything's going to be alright.”
Pidge sobbed and buried her face in his chest, unable to bring herself to say anything else. After a few minutes, she was calm enough to let go of him, though tears continued to stream down her face.
“Keith,” Shiro's voice cracked as he turned to face the other man.
Keith's smile was brittle. “See you soon, Shiro.”
Shiro looked away, his hand trembling as he gripped the handle of the Time Transporter. He flipped the switch to give it time to work and then lifted his head, getting one last look at them. “I love you both.”
And then he was gone.
Pidge fell to her knees, sobbing once again, and Keith went to her, hiding his face in her hair as he cried.
They sat in the grass and held each other for a long time.
And then Kosmo gleefully barked from somewhere in the house, and like waking from a spell, Pidge and Keith slowly untangled and he helped her up, freezing as he got a good look at her.
“Pidge?” His voice was full of wonder as he placed his hand on her belly, which had been perfectly flat the last he checked.
Pidge looked down, her eyes wide. “How?”
As new memories trickled in, slowly growing stronger and pushing aside the old until their ten years without Shiro felt more like a well-watched movie than reality, they knew what happened.
“Shiro,” they said in unison, hurrying inside to find him.
Pidge and Keith were almost to the hall when they heard the front door shut and Shiro's voice call out: “We're home!”
Tiny footsteps raced towards them and Keith stepped in front of Pidge in time to catch a little girl with dark hair and sweep her up into his arms. She squealed and giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck and planting a wet kiss against his cheek with a playful, “Mwah!”
“Keira,” Pidge breathed, staring at their daughter. She felt like crying all over again, but at least she could blame it on the hormones.
And then Shiro walked in, a little older and with much whiter hair, but still very much the Shiro they fell in love with. Keith slowly set Keira down, unable to take his eyes off of him.
“Sweetie, why don't you and Kosmo go play outside?” he asked.
“Kosmo!” Keira giggled as the comic wolf loped over to her and laid down, letting her climb onto his back. Once she had a good grip on his harness, he trotted out the back door.
Shiro set down his backpack, his expression one of concern as he approached Pidge. He reached out to brush away her fresh tears. “Hey, what's wrong? Did something happen? Is everything alright?”
“You did it,” Keith said, his tone conveying his awe. “You actually...”
“Changed things,” Pidge choked out with a happy laugh. “You changed the timeline. Our timeline!”
With a shout of delight, Shiro pulled his wife and husband in for a warm hug, basking in the knowledge that he'd done what he set out to do.
At last, everything was right in their universe.

I’m Beauti-... oh
Aaaha another very long overdue Plance oneshot, hooray! I don’t even know where I’m going with this one but,,, the show must go on!
They were on Earth. And while the planet still had a lot to fix since the whole “Galra Almost Destrying Earth and All It’s People” incident, Pidge was happy to be home, especially since, as it turned out, her entire family and her dog were safe, and for the most part, happy. Bae Bae wasn’t too pleased to find out that Pidge had been hanging out with a cool teleporting cosmic space wolf, but had grown to tolerate Kosmo, at least a little bit.
At present, Pidge was drawing, something she hadn’t really been able to do a lot in space, especially considering the fact that the team had had to save a planet every thirty dobashes - wait, no, minutes; they were home now.
Home.
That word meant a lot of things now. Not only did it mean being back on Earth, at the Garrison, but it meant being with her friends, with her family, and with her fellow paladins. Oh - and with Lance.
Speak of the devil and so he shall appear.
“Hey, Pidge?” Lance was standing in the doorway of her dorm at the Garrison, one she now shared with Allura until Pidge’s currently decimated house could be rebuilt. Allura was in her bed, reading Sherlock Holmes. Pidge had insisted she read the books before she watched the more modern TV show, but she was waiting on the edge of her seat.
“Huh? Oh, uh, hey Lance, what’s up?” Pidge stuttered, turning around her swivel chair quickly. Lance walked over and looked at her drawing. It was supposed to be him, but she hadn’t added the eyes or the hair yet, so Pidge was glad it looked like a generic human head.
“Oh, that’s really good. Who is it?” Lance asked, running his finger over the paper. Pidge swatted it away.
“What do you want?”
“What do you mean?”
“You came in here for a reason, didn’t you?” Pidge raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, yeah! I came... drumroll please... for advice!”
“Advice? What kind of advice?” Pidge asked. Now she was intrigued, but she pushed it aside. He was probably going to ask her for video game logic advice. But instead, Lance blushed lightly and scratched the back of his head.
“Oh, um... actually, I came for relationship advice.”
“To me?” Pidge’s heart sank. Tonight was a party, in celebration of defeating the Galra. And If Lance was coming to her of all people for relationship advice... that definitely wasn’t her area of forte. Surely he knew that! Which obviously meant he was going to use her own advice to ask out Allura, or Ina, or Nadia... or, you know, anyone but her.
“Is this not Pidge I’m speaking to?” Lance asked with a lopsided smile. Quiznak that smile straight to hell. Pidge frowned.
“Who else would it be?”
“Great! In that case, can you help me out?”
“... Maybe.”
“So, I really like this girl, but the problem is I don’t know how to show her I like her.”
Pidge rolled her eyes and shrugged, turning away from him back to her drawing. “I dunno. Just tell her “you’re beautiful.””
“Got it. Thanks!” Lance waved and shot out of the room like a bullet.
“That was odd.” Allura commented, “just like a giant ghost dogs that maul people to death on moors.”
“Tell me about it.” Pidge grumbled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~•~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Come on, Pidge! This dress is perfect!” Nadia grinned, blowing a strand of hair out of her face before holding up a long, sparkly pear green dress. It was, admittedly, rather pretty.
“I’m sure a very special someone will like it~” Rizavi continued, winking.
“There’s no point.” Pidge deadpanned. Nadia looked sad and confused, and she put the dress over the back of Pidge’s chair.
“Why not?” Nadia asked.
“He came to me for relationship advice.” Pidge explained sadly. Rizavi frowned.
“Oh, I get it.” But then her face split open in a grin. “Then wear it to rub in his face that he asked another girl and not fabulous sparkling amazingly hot Katie Holt!”  Nadia finished, laughing. Pidge smiled.
“Alright, I don’t see why not!”
Lance stumbled through the crowd, waving at people and saying hi to distant relatives on his way. Where was Pidge? He knew he’d messed up not asking her earlier - that was stupid, but he’d been way too nervous, Keith had laughed at him for that, the little quiznaker - but surely she would still show up? He hoped so, at least. He still didn’t quite understand what she meant when she’s said “Just say you’re beautiful,” but he would follow her advice anyway.
The lights dimmed. As if in a movie, Pidge, Nadia, Ina, and Allura stepped through the door. No one else seemed to notice, so maybe the lights hadn’t dimmed after all and Lance was hallucinating - but he didn’t care. Pidge had her hair down, which had grown out since they’d left for deep space, and it tumbled down to just graze her shoulders. She’d put green rhinestones in the hinges of her glasses, and she was wearing a glimmering green dress that fell down to the floor and then some. Okay, Lance really, really hoped he wasn’t hallucinating.
Quickly, he hurried over, grabbed Pidge’s hand with a protest from Pidge and a wink from Ina, and dragged her over to a corner.
“I’m beautiful.” He told her. Pidge looked confused and slightly miffed.
“I... what... what did you just say?”
“I’m... I’m beautiful?” Lance repeated. “Isn’t that... isn’t that what your advice was? “Tell her you’re...” oh.” Pidge burst out laughing at Lance’s heartbroken expression, realizing what he’d done.
“That’s not - not what I meant, you idiot!”
“Sorry?” Lance offered.
“Come on. I heard they have sparkling apple cider, and I want to get some of that before it runs out.” Pidge answered, grabbing Lance’s arm and pulling him toward the refreshments.
I feel like that was kind of rushed? And a bad ending? Oh, well.
Hiya! Could you write headcanons for the paladins reacting to their super girly s/o kick ass while in their pretty pink dress and then switch back to being girly again after they're done? Thankya!
i lostthe element of the kicking ass s/o going back to her girly self after bc idon’t rlly know how girly works??? that didn’t make sense but y’know,i interpreted girly as polite/kind? forgive me, but enjoy! i’m sorry if it’s not up to expectations!
Trainingor fighting in one of your outfits wasn’t uncommon. Your battle suit wasdamaged in the fight against the Galra on Earth–torn and tattered; even thecomms system integrated into your suit hadn’t been working. You weren’t… too eager to talk about it, since it wasthe product of being held hostage by the Galra for a few days, something thatheld humiliation and mild trauma of being strapped to the interrogation table.You were sure they’d get a piece of your mind once you had your hands on them. Oncespotting you, your fellow paladin stopped in their tracks, halting at the door.
shiro:
his jaw absolutely DROPS, it’s where his s/o welcomes him back from space
and he saw you in the pink dress you bought before the galra invaded, wanting to give him a surprise
he did have some private moments with you, seeing as he had to attend a lot of meetings along with the garrison personnel and the other paladins. you remember one night he’d whined about how he wanted you to wear the dress again, his floaty arm surprising you when it smacked your ass
“shiro!”
he rolled his eyes with a smile, having a pleasant sleep that night
the next day, you were training with the MFE pilots, guiding them on how to solidify punches, introducing different footwork to get used to, etc., doing it politely with a gentle voice so it wouldn’t go in one ear and out the other
james proposed a sparring session and boasted that he’d win jokingly.
you volunteered to be his opponent, and it was probs just instinct, but you knew james would be complacent just bc you were in a dress.
welp he’s wrong and now groaning on the floor. you crouched down and smiled sweetly, saying, “don’t underestimate your opponents,” and going back to your sweet personality.
seeing you in the dress already was a pleasant surprise, but kicking absolute ASS in it? shiro’s gotten to a whole new level of fluster
he was leaning against the door frame now, high-fiving you once rushed over after spotting him
“whaatttt the hell was that????” shiro tends to drag his words when he’s shocked, you don’t know why but you like it. shrugging you bid goodbye to the MFE pilots, hooking an arm around shiro
for therecord, he loves it but he’s still shocked as fuck
lance:
you toldhim about the dress when the team was approaching earth, somehow getting a holdof you once they’d entered the milky way. he imagined how the dress would belike, smirking once he’d saw it in person.
thelittle shit whispered about how he’d want it to be on his bedroom floor tonight. you rolled your eyes, shoving him off with a smile
it wasafter everything, where his family were together with him in the garrison’swards, talking to him and catching up after these few years
lance’sniece was on your lap, playing some games with you and ignoring her unclecompletely as a joke between you two. feigning hurt, he cried out, “oh lunamcclain- you wound me, look, myheart’s shattering.” and mimicked the sound of his heart breaking (luna is justa headcanon name for his niece! when they said ‘uncle lance’ in s7, that scenealone barged into my house to give me a tight slap i loved it)
once shelooked at him, she turned back to you and tilted her head in question as ifshe’d asked ‘should i give in?’ both his family and you laughed; you nodded,but before you could hand luna over to lance, the garrison went onto lockdownagain, lights at the top of each room flashing an alarming red (trust me idon’t wanna put the paladins thru this but yknow,,,, for the headcanons…)
his nieceon your lap cried out, scared to death of having to go through anotherterrifying experience.
you couldhear lance groan out, “holy mother of god i’ve haven’t even had the time torest!” but tried to stand up nevertheless
the galrahas invaded the garrison itself, catching everyone’s attention when a doorslammed open, sentries marching in with their blasters and whatever.
yourpolite smile diminished, an angry scowl instead on your face
yousmiled again once you had your back to the galra, putting down lance’s niece onthe floor and kissing her head sweetly
sprintingimmediately, you took a soldier down, using the limp sentry’s blaster to attackthe others.
youdrop-kicked the last sentry, effortlessly standing up with your dress and hairstill intact
lance justmanaged to get out a “wow”, and said “ahora realmente me gustaría ver ese vestido en el suelo” and earned a smack on the head from his mom (translation: now i really want that dress on thefloor; thank you to @secret-jester for the translation!)
readjustingyour hair, you grinned at his family, mostly his nephew and niece, usheringthem out before another wave of sentries stacked, and into a bomb shelter (isit safe?) with a smile
lancemade sure to mention this during steamy times after the invasion
keith:
it was inthe midst of a battle, where the paladins were helping out to rid of thegalra’s ground patrol teams surrounding the garrison. chaos was everywhere andthe galra were still rounding up citizens to force the able-bodied into workcamps (that’s what it said in s7 right? if i’m not wrong aahhh)
you wereprotecting a group of children who managed to hide it out. everyone wascrouched behind debris, the other paladins not too far away from you
youcalmed them down by singing a soft song, something your mom always did for you.most of them calmed down, at ease now that they had someone to focus on otherthan the chaos. plus you had a pretty nice dress on, it was like you were theirtemporary mom or something. you smiled at the fact that your singing helped.
hearingone of the children yelp and scream out, you immediately turned your attentionto them, seeing them struggle and kick aimlessly at the air to hopefully breakfrom the sentry’s hold.
youalmost growled out, punching the sentry straight in the fucking face becausegod the galra was such a hostile race to not even care about children! you usedyour weapon to deliver another terrible blow. the paladins already took out theearlier approaching galra, rushing over since they heard the child’s shriek
youturned back to the children, apologising for the gory sight they’d had towitness at such a young age, bringing them into the MFE’s crafts so the pilotscould bring them back to the garrison
keithsmirked, a little surprised, but not at the same time y’know? you were surehe’d seen you in the training room in the castle of lions before so he knew youcould kick ass.
but in that dress? wow
not nowboner!
but yeah,it was an eye-opening experience for him. i mean if you used it for yourpersonal private training sessions,he’d lose in a flash
keithtells you that, earning a laugh and a sweet kiss from you. his soul ascended toheaven, he was sure of that
hunk:
this alsohappens in the midst of a battle because i’m running out of scenarios rip
it wasthe scouting mission where you all had to find out more about sendak’s plans(or something like that lol)
you werepart of the ground team, being that you were more of a close-range fighter likepidge and keith
you werehelping out on the front lines, taking down stubborn sentries after thepatrolling bots (i think so?? s7 is so hazy in my head) spotted allura andjames
one ofthe sentries had hurt cosmo, so being the terribly talented medic, you quicklybandaged the wound, ruffling the light blue fur on his head and whispered thatyou’d clean up the wound properly once you return to the garrison
lancecalls out to hunk in the midst of taking out the galra like nothing (i love mysniper shooting boyfriend thank you very much). “look at (y/n)”
hunklooks through his binoculars, almost falling over from shock when he saw youkicking some good ass
hunkimmediately grins, shutting off the comms and leaving you on to talk to youprivately, “ohmy god that was so so good you’re so cool!!!!!!”
“uh hunkbuddy, we all can still hear you,” lance had said.
“fuck-”
i hc thathunk does swear, but like out of embarrassment and anger, but more ofembarrassment
hunk isall exclamation marks and smiles when he sees you take down another galrasoldier, absolutely wanting to meet you right here and now to hug you and tellyou how fucking cool it was when you kicked his face and then punched thatother galra after and then-
once theground team met up with the sniper team, he ran out to bring you up in yourarms, twirling you around and making you laugh
he had tocatch his breath after he rambled about how beautiful you looked even whilekicking ass, kissing you in front of everyone, earning groans and gagging sounds
hunk putan arm around your shoulder, bringing you close as you all headed back to thegarrison
pidge:
it’safter the scouting mission (hunk’s scenario), where they went back to thegarrison to brief to the generals/admirals about sendak’s plans for thedestruction of earth.
i mean, it wasn’t a nice way to say ‘the destruction of earth’ but, the truthhurts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
once thegarrison and the team settled the instructions and procedures to destroy thezaiforge canons, everyone filed out of the room, walking to wherever they wereneeded for the moment.
the MFEpilots and voltron were the last to leave, finalising with kinkade about theMFE’s jobs in the operation that was to take place soon since james (whousually was the one in charge of the MFE pilots) had lashed out on hunkearlier, with rizavi calming him down
james waitedoutside, leaning against the wall, annoyed at how longthey were taking
you noticedhow james had eyed pidge during the meeting as well, staring with scorn and alittle bit of confusion, the inevitable happening once you walked alongsidepidge as she talked to her father, pitching in some ideas at the right times
“aren’tyou a little young to be a paladin? and short too…”
normally,pidge would’ve done it herself, but with the way he’d shouted at hunk and watchedpidge during the meeting, you were pissed, verypissed.
yournatural smile dropped as your head whipped to the MFE pilot, matching up to himin height, though a little shorter. you faced him, unblinking and unfazed, “oh,is your little girlfriend going to stand up for y-”
ok that’sit.
you cuthim off immediately by landing a punch on his face, a punch stronger than hisand any of the other MFEs (and even then, you were pulling your punches!). hestumbled back to take a fighting stance but was too late as he felt a kick onhis stomach, making him loose his balance and fall on his butt.
“don’tsay anything if you’ve nothing nice tosay, griffin.”
ngl,pidge giggled and sam holt was unbothered, because he knew you were protectivewhen it came to pidge, he appreciated that.
goingback to your previous discussion, another idea popped into your mind, proposingit to sam immediately.
you couldhear the other MFEs lecture james and laughed
jamesavoided you for the rest of his life LMAO
post-season 8 headcanons p2
part 1 here
basically this post i made expanded on bc i started thinking about a lot of other stuff that couldn’t fit into the neat meme format
hell fucking yeah lance finally gets some recognition because there’s still that suspended disbelief of “oh this kid used to be a cargo pilot, c’mon, it has to be a fluke” and then he’s out here, flying the red lion like it’s his business (because it is) and they’re like “well shit”
maybe lance still gets the altean marks because allura brought him back to life and the exposure to raw quintessence in haggar’s mind calls them up which i’m really only adding bc i think he looks pretty and keith probs likes smooching them ;;;)
so we have this awkward one year where the defenders of the universe attend some of the garrison classes because they still need the credits to graduate before they can actually start working sjfmv
iverson: actually before you can take the position, you need to officially receive your garrison diploma
lance: yall deadass?
it’s a trainwreck when they have to take math with adam and he actually makes keith sit in the corner at one point for chucking a piece of paper at pidge
lance becomes a teacher because he never wants someone to feel the way he did in school and despite the fact he’s still sort of insecure about the fact he doesn’t think he’s the smartest, he wants to inspire people the way shiro inspired him because of how much having a role model like that meant to him
keith becomes a teacher part-time because he gets to still be around his family in that position and it is understood he has to go away sometimes for the blade’s relief missions
they’re grossly in love and everybody knows it, captain shirogane and professor wahaba all over again, and they know when professor garret subs in for prof kogane then prof mcclain’s gonna need some cheering up so everybody does their best to make him smile bc he’s one of the favorite teachers in the garrison
or on the flip side when the cadets don’t want to do anything in lance’s class, they just get him to start talking about keith and the periods blow by
yes knowledge of both the teacher power couples is common and yes kl and adashi absolutely say they don’t care about what people say but if u think they arent constantly duking it out for cutest couple in the garrison then ur sorely mistaken my guy
lance, bursting into adam’s class with a giant fucking bouquet of roses and a teddy bear with huge bow that says for my perfect fiancee: oh sorry did i get the wrong room?? :)))
adam gets matching mugs for he and shiro the next day that say i have the best husband in the galaxy and he sips his coffee very loudly in the teacher’s lounge it’s great
hunk eventually becomes a garrison engineer full time but pidge, though teching for the garrison half the time, never really has a set job. she just like. bounces around to the next big technical breakthrough to learn as much as she can and matt’s basically the same thing except he does stay pretty consistently at the garrison.
they want to find ways to incorporate all the technology they saw in space into earth tech but earth’s still a long way to go
pidge, walking into the mall: where are. the robots.
matt: alienss? hello???? anliens????
the alteans visit often but more often than not it’s just romelle and coran because allura has so much more responsibility
when she does come, it’s usually a surprise, punctuated by her interrupting lance’s class and tackling him in a hug
queue the entire class going apeshit as professor mcclain is picked up and swung around by queen allura of altea while they both squeal at the top of their lungs
keith and lance do live in the garrison but krolia stays in the shack with kosmo, mostly doing maintenance on the house and starting a small garden alongside the patch of flowers behind it to keep herself occupied when she’s not helping organize the blade’s relief missions from there
everybody goes on that sunday for their weekly dinners, though, and they bring the dining table out on the front lawn because they can’t all fit inside
if not physically present, allura, coran, and romelle appear via video call
they just catch up with each other
despite everything, they’re all happy with where they ended up
if yall have anything u wanna add pls PLS send me an ask i wanna hear some more take on what actually happened
Kacxa Week Day 4
Recently battle scarred, Keith is feeling insecure. He is in the middle of scrutinizing himself, when he meets an unexpected guest.
Keith looks at the scar again. He isn’t one for insecurity. He certainly isn’t the type to fret over his appearance, that is a Lance thing. But standing before the mirror with a fresh scar running from the top of his brow and down past his ear…
He finds that he is no longer as comfortable in his skin as he once was.
 He knows that he should be proud of it. That he has earned it in a feat of heroism and bravery. That he got it in a successful attempt to keep the blade away from an unsuspecting Coran’s throat. But he isn’t. It’s an ugly blemish. He wished that he could have evaded the blow alongside Coran.
 But he didn’t so it is there, an ugly raised line on otherwise familiar skin. Lance doesn’t mean anything by it, he knows that Lance uses humor to cope, but the Lion King jokes weren’t helping at all. He growls to himself, frustrated at the dip in self-esteem he has worked so hard to build back up. His hands curl over the countertop and his head falls spilling a cascade of black hair.
 To make an awful time that much more so, the door opens. He turns, one-hundred percent ready to unleash a very harsh, “ever here of knocking!” Should it be Allura or Coran he’d spin it to, “I know you’re not from Earth, but I’m sure Altaens know that it’s rude to just barge in!” Instead he sees Acxa standing in the door frame, looking every bit as flustered as he was. She is wearing pajamas that are a size or two too big and house slippers, and holds a tooth brush in one hand. The words die on his tongue.
 “Sorry, I didn’t realize you were in here. Lotor always kept the door locked…” she tries to justify.
 “It’s fine.” He mutters, he knows that it isn’t her fault—she had a point, he should learn to lock the door—but he is still agitated that she has intruded on such a privet moment. It probably bled through in his tone because she sputters an apology again. So he sighs and tries again, “no really it’s fine, I should have locked the door.”
 She is quiet for a moment, granted she is usually very quiet. He thinks that she is probably the timid sort. She always struck him as a bit of a follower, it is why he tries to keep his distance from her, he doesn’t like followers. The only reason he doesn’t hate her completely is because she had always had this behind-closed-doors rebellious streak. He supposed that when it came down to it, that’s why she went her own way. Finally, she notes, “you seem upset.”
 “What gave you that clue?” The comment is out before he can stop it. It’s a combination of his preconceptions of her and of poor timing. He wants to like her, he does. But she has flipped from one side to the next too many times for his taste.
 “You don’t like me.” She notes again.
 He hasn’t exactly been kind to her since she joined them and no doubt, she has noticed. She’s no fool. She isn’t as naïve as Allura. “I…” He doesn’t know how to reply. He doesn’t hate her, he doesn’t want to. “I not like you either.” It’s the best he can do.
 “I’ll leave you alone.” She turns to the door.
 He can’t say what has compelled him to do so but he quickly says, “No, wait.”
 She turns her head and waits for him to speak. When he doesn’t she asks, “is there something you want to talk about?” She tries to gauge his emotions. “What’s wrong?”
 He doesn’t know why he confesses it to her of all people…aliens. Maybe it is because she asked. Perhaps it is simply that she just so happens to be there when it is on his mind. He points to his marred face, “as if I needed another reason to hate myself!”
 Her eyebrows furrow and her lips part. “Why would you hate yourself?” She asks. With a slight, perhaps coy smile she adds, “you were always my favorite member of the team.” She comes to sit down on the edge of the bathtub. He thinks briefly of suggesting to move this conversation out of the bathroom, but the bathroom—in theory—affords him the most privacy.
 “I don’t know. It’s like sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I was feeling pretty good about myself until I got this.” He motions back to the scar.
 She cocks her head. “You know, in the Galra Empire, scars are a beauty standard.”
 “Well, I’m not Galra!” He says out of habit. “I mean, I’m more human than Galra.”
 She laughs softly, “and I’m more Galra.”
 “Clearly.” He is growing frustrated. He doesn’t like that she is laughing at him. “Humans, they see this kind of thing and they stare. It doesn’t look good. Not on me.”
 Again Acxa shoots him a confused look. He doesn’t expect her to but she reaches out and runs her finger over the length of the battle scar, sending a pleasant tingle down his spine. She withdraws rather abruptly and apologizes for a third time. This time he’s the one laughing, she is very bizarrely and unexpectedly apologetic. “Do the Galra not value personal space?”
 “Not particularly.” She admits.
 He can’t say why but he takes her hand and holds her finger to the scar again. When he lets go she lets her touch linger. For some reason it makes him feel better. “I think that it suits you.” She speaks. “You’re a fighter. All fighters have scars. The best fighters have scars.” She slowly lowers her hand.
 “Thanks.” He replies. He really does want to believe her, but he was always pretty, bad boy Keith.
 “It takes some getting used to. When you’ve looked a certain way for so long, I mean.” She states. And he wonders if she is referring to the length of her hair.
 “At least you can cut it.” He can’t help but roll his eyes.
 She tilts her head again before catching on. “That’s not what I meant, I kind of like it this way.” She pauses as if thinking of whether or not she wants to carry on with whatever it was she had in mind. She stares at him for a short while and then pulls up her pajama top some. Keith can’t help but stare the scars are very prominent. It isn’t a single scar but rather a series of them, as though something has clawed at her, raking its claws over and over again. But it also looks as though she has been badly burned. The largest in the set is rather wide and spans from her belly button to a good distance up her rib cage.
 “What happened?” He asked.
 “The galaxy isn’t exactly friendly.” Acxa notes. “It happened on a mission Lotor sent me on, sort of like the Weblum. There’s a creature somewhere out there, I don’t even have a name for it, its claws are tipped with its own special kind of acid.” He hovers his fingers above the scars. “The Galra don’t value personal space remember.”
 He has the permission he needs. He likes to think of it as a comforting gesture to touch them. They are rough as though they hadn’t had the chance to heal properly at all. He thinks that the appropriate next step would be to ask if it had hurt, but he knows the answer. He can feel the answer beneath his fingers.
 “I didn’t like them at first.” She admits. “Zethrid kept telling me that she was jealous. But she’s Zethrid, she doesn’t put much thought into how she looks…”
 “And you do?” Keith asked.
 She shrugs, “I guess sometimes.” She pauses and tucks her hair behind her ear. His fingers still linger on her belly, tracing the scar tissue. “Humans and the Galra are a little more similar than you might think.” She looks down. “I think sometimes I lean more towards my less Galra half.”
 “Yeah, I can see that.” He agrees. “So what, you’d be some kind of Aphrodite to your people?”
 “A what?” The expression of puzzlement on her face is rich.
 Keith chuckles, “she’s a Goddess of beauty.”
 “Oh.” Acxa replies. “Maybe not that far, but yes, the Galra would admire this.” She motions to the scarring. “I try to.”
 “Does it work?”
 “It does now.” She nods. “I’ve grown to appreciate them. And you should appreciate yours. You earned yours very nobly.”
 He rubs the back of his head, “I guess I did.” She looks at him with a soft sort of admiration, the kind he isn’t sure that he earned. And maybe he should return the look, in her own rights she was a respectable woman. He sees her tug her shirt back down and fold her hands in her lap. A very subtle, timid woman, but respectable no less. He is glad that he didn’t push her away, he finds that he likes her.
 “Thanks.” He smiles. “For talking with me, it helped.”
 “You’re welcome.” She replies. He wonders if it was hard for her to speak about her own struggles. “Good night, Keith.”
 “Yeah, good night.” He hopes to talk to her again like that. He watches her make her way down the hall, stealing one last look at him. He looks back into the mirror where the scar still glares back at him. But now its stare isn’t so harsh. Somehow it doesn’t seem so ugly anymore.
Once Bitten, Twice Stupid prt 135
135
Standing at the terminal for the private airport, Keith was fighting the urges telling him to stay. Curtis was there. Shiro was there. Kosmo was there. Krolia, James, Ryan, Nadia, Ina, Matt, Rieva and Kolivan were all there... but the one person he wanted there the most wasn’t. Lance was with Mami at VOLTRON. His boyfriend opting to stay there for the next few days before he went into hiding with Mami. They were all going ahead. Allura would be coming with Lotor in a day or two with his generals that’d been barely saved in time by a team sent to the airfield, there just some things they needed to wrap up in Platt first. Leaving Lance hurt. Lance hadn’t been too well the night before. His boyfriend tried to reassure him at least a hundred times that they’d be able to talk over the phone and he’d answer all Keith’s calls once he had a second number. Coran would organise that, and Keith wasn’t allowed to know where Lance was going until he’d got there safely. He couldn’t tell the Vatican what he didn’t know.
Hearing a wolf whistle, Keith spun round. Pidge and Hunk coming towards him. Krolia seemed to expect this
“Finally! I thought you two were going to miss the flight!”
Pidge laughed at Krolia, though it was probably more the bewilderment on Keith’s face
“What are you two doing here?!”
“You didn’t think we’d miss this opportunity, did you?”
“But... what?”
“Lance told us to come. Because apparently you can’t tell your two best friends you’re off to Rome. Sheesh, you’re so rude”
“But you were... weren’t you staying in Garrison?”
“Pfft. We still are. We came to say goodbye to you, dummy”
As far as Keith knew the pair of them would be staying in Garrison. They were going to look after Lance’s house and his cow and Blue... and Lance. What about Lance? He’d thrown around the idea of asking them to go with Lance, but Lance didn’t want to interfere. Apparently this didn’t count as interference? He didn’t want to make a scene about leaving
“What about...?”
Pidge snickered at his failure to articulate the questions in his head
“Chillax, dude. It’s all sorted. Blue’s back with Lance now, and we’re gonna check on his house for him”
When did that happen? He hadn’t been able to see them much. Weren’t they mad about that?
“But... why?”
“Because we’re friends, doofus. Plus, have you met my brother? Leave him alone for too long and he gets all stupid in the head. Someone has to remind him he’s not as smart as he thinks he is”
From the group, Matt called out
“Fuck you, Katie! I’m smarter than you!”
“Go lick your balls!”
James and the others snickered. Somehow they managed to get along with Matt rather well. James had been less of dick towards him too. Maybe the mutt was scared of Lance? Because accepting him seemed too far of a stretch. Reaching out, Hunk pulled him into a hug, Keith returning it, still slightly shocked that his friends had made the effort to come see him when he’d tried to sneak away
“You stay safe, man. And let us know what’s going on”
“Thanks. I will. I’ll be back as soon as I can be”
“We know. We’ll take care of Lance the best we can until you come back... when he comes back... it feels like everyone’s leaving”
“Lance said “This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later””
Pidge wrapped her arms around them both
“He’s right. We’re coming to Rome to get you ourselves if you think you can skip out on us”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way... I’m sorry... that we have to...”
Pidge stomped on his foot, scowling up at him when he looked down at her questioningly
“Stop it. Look. We don’t blame you over what happened with Lance. We don’t blame Lance either. Sendak was a bad man. What we want is both our friends to be okay”
Hunk backing Pidge up, though sounding super nervous
“You are okay, aren’t you? You’re not in some kind of super trouble?”
Maybe a little? For being distracted and letting Sendak get the drop on him...
“Not that I know of. I’ve been trying to stay outside the loop for Lance’s sake. Lance can be pretty forceful when he has to be”
Pidge nodded, dropping her head back down as she replied
“He’ll be okay. He’s going with Mami and he’s got Blue now. Are you going to have the same number?”
“I would pretend you didn’t already have my work number but I know you do”
“And Shiro’s... and Curtis’s... and Krolia’s Don’t think I won’t blow up their phones if you stop answering us”
“What do you expect? Daily reports?”
“Exactly! Hunk’s getting his passport processed. I’ve got mine. Rome isn’t too far to go to kick your arse”
He didn’t deserve his friends. He really fucking loved both of them.
Matt came over to them, lifting Pidge up off of him like she was rag doll, Pidge screeching at the sudden motion
“You put me down, Matthew Holt!”
“Where’s the fun in that?”
“I’ll burn all your stuff while you’re gone if you don’t put me down right now!”
Matt placed the angry gremlin down, ruffling her hair as she tried to straighten it up
“Don’t be mad because mum said you couldn’t come with us”
Pidge crossed her arms
“I didn’t ask her”
“We both know that’s a lie”
Pidge raised an eyebrow, seeming smug that Matt was wrong
“Actually I asked mum if I should go with Lance. She’s the one who said he needed a little time with his own mother instead of us”
Keith wished Pidge and Hunk were going with Lance. Lance only vaguely agreed if that Keith wasn’t going to be back for Christmas they could meet up with him. Keith was totally going to be back for Christmas. Three and a half weeks was plenty of time. He hoped it would go faster than it sounded out loud
“She’d be right. He needs a vacation, not to be babysitting you”
“He doesn’t babysit me”
“Remind me, did he not used to go ahead and check out the places you wanted to go ahead of time to make sure you wouldn’t be hurt”
“No one asked him too”
“All I’m hearing is a grumbling gremlin”
Pidge stomped on Matt’s foot. Rieva giggling at the pair of them. The werewolf seemed happier... and Loturd was to blame for it.
When they’d bumped into Matt and Rieva at VOLTRON, Lance had wound up ignoring his need for sleep in favour of having the pair over to the apartment. Where he went and fell asleep anyway after he and Rieva had made dinner for the four of them. Both Matt and Rieva were worried about Lance, Keith not wanting to talk about his boyfriend behind his back, but instead kind of sort of did, maybe a little jealously. Lance defending Lotor made his head hurt and his heart feel ugly with jealousy. Rieva having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that monster she’d heard so much about had seemed to soften into something almost human. She still hated him. Loathed his family. Wanted him to fuck off back to Europe and stay there with his family forever, all of which making Keith smile at her description. She liked him a tiny bit better now that he’d given her some answers about why her biological parents had to die.
It turned out Lotor was looking into it in his own way.
He couldn’t very well approach his parents and demand a list of everyone they and their underlinings had personally killed. It was disgustingly and shamefully long, Lotor actually admitting that to Rieva, as he hung his head before her. Part of his niceness still seemed like an act. Rieva didn’t trust him. He acknowledged that she had no need to and no need to forgive her. Her parents murders were nearly a footnote in Lotor’s research. Simply murdered because they were the wrong friends of friends of friends who’d lost a child to Honerva’s crazed experiments. Zarkon wiping out the chain of evidence back to them. He’d found a photo, giving Rieva something tangible of her parents. She and Matt were coming with them long enough to give statements, again, then going on to spend some time with Rieva’s adoptive parents, with the plan being to return home for Christmas. Krolia had personally promised them her protection... then Kolivan turned around and did the same. His mum could be scary when she wanted to be. Keith wishing he could have seen her scolding Kolivan who’s facial expression never really seemed to change that much.
Everything had changed since he’d last been standing here. It was only him and Shiro then. No Pidge. No Hunk. No Krolia he thought of as his mother now. No Lance as his boyfriend, just Lance that needed a bullet in his brain. No twins. No... friends... that he believed he’d never have because everyone left him in the end. No Kosmo or Blue. No good thoughts of vampires and werewolves. No Mami and her rebel antics. No apartment filled with memories to come back to. No house filled with love waiting a little further down the road for all this to be over and him to move there to be with his pregnant love. None of that. He was going to miss Lance so much. Pidge and Hunk too... but Lance... he missed him deeply already.
“Sorry, kids. It’s time to go. Keith will let you know when we get there. Take care of yourselves until we’re back”
Krolia hugged Pidge and Hunk, both of them hugging her back. They’d bonded. He used to believe as long as he had Shiro he had all he needed. The two of them. The two Paladins as Shiro would call them. Now there was 5 of them... Him, Lance, Shiro, Pidge and Hunk... and some kind of weird family bond between them all. Lance was right, as he usually was, it was past time putting this Sendak mess to bed. Keith knew at least two Blade agents were staying behind to deal with the spot fires left from Sendak. But Coran had that handled. For a weird old fae, he was kind of very special... He could be flaky, he could be slow, he could be frustrating, and his stories didn’t need to see the light of day again, but he did care. And fuck, he loved Lance so much. Everyone loved Lance so much... He hoped he was doing the right thing here. He hoped his boyfriend wasn’t crying his eyes out. He’d cried enough last night and into the morning. His morning sickness had seemed to almost double with stress. Keith didn’t want to spend their last night in the infirmary, but Lance had been so sick that he’d agreed maybe it was for the best. He and the twins were going to be okay... They were going to be okay and he was going to come back home to where he belonged.
Hugs did the rounds, Keith hugged by Matt who simply shrugged. Matt had the same kind of flare for dramatics as Lance. He loved love. Saying goodbye sucked, so it was “see you later”. Fresh determination in Keith’s steps as he led Kosmo over to the private jet. His doggo an idiot, trying to be part of the wolf pack... who were all in human form... He really was surrounded by idiots.
*
Cuba was hot. Hot and just the right place to be to forget how badly he missed Keith. Cuba was the holiday Lance’d wanted to take Mami and Keith on, but coming back with Mami was worth it to hear the way she lit up at the prospect of an adventure.
He’d cried so hard the day Keith left. Regretting letting him go without him. Mami held his hand, confined to bed thanks to dehydration. Keith had worried so much about leaving that Lance wondered if he would. Coran helped him make a gift for Keith. A small album of ultrasound photos and tummy photos from his phone, and surveillance footage. They’d had to get creative or he’d have had three full blank weeks there. He had another two albums. One for him and one for Mami. Mami getting into this baby thing too much. The knitting needles coming out and him being told to mind his own business. Luis had nearly lost his shit when Coran came to pick her back up. Mami had a few choice words about her overbearing son and the banning of her occasional nightcap, and he didn’t take her to church.
Picking up their rental car, Coran had organised it all. Special clearances, careful of customs, a nice hotel room with ocean views for a month, giving Keith the chance to come down and experience this with them before heading back to America. The only way to get a Cuban passport was to be born there or to marry a Cuban. Mami had hers, Lance her American born grandson... funnily enough named Lance. Amazing. It was also really the only time he could take this holiday with Mami. He could still hide his belly. He was small. He’d googled and seen some of the sizes of normal bellies, worrying his was to small for their twins. Mami called him an idiot for it told him “before too long he’d be wishing he was small again”. Seeing Keith didn’t need all his clothes in Rome, Lance had borrowed some of his... and packed the same body wash his boyfriend used... and Keith’s stinkiest jacket to stench up his luggage so he wouldn’t lose his scent.
Checking in, the hotel was ridiculously nice. Clean. Lots of white and arches, the smell of the beach in the air. Mami pointing out everything that had changed since she’d been there, even trying to send them down roads that no longer existed on the way to the hotel. Thank god for inbuilt GPS. Setting up their room was put on hold. The first thing he did was set up his laptop, using the hotel wifi. He had the phone Coran told him to take which was an encrypted Blade phone, as well as the laptop which he’d personalised a little with pictures of Keith, Blue and Kosmo. His own laptop, normal, and work phones locked away at VOLTRON. None of that mattered. His first port of call was logging into his “what’s app” with his new account just for him and Keith. Rome was 6 hours ahead. Making it 3am. He’d told Keith he’d call him when he’d arrived, like Keith had called him when he’d arrived and was able to.
Keith had been waiting up for him. His boyfriend nursing a cup of coffee, Kosmo trying to butt in over his shoulder. His fur son missed him... being a bad father, Blue was staying at VOLTRON. He couldn’t bring her down to Cuba, and she deserved to run and play, and he was paranoid about leaving her with Pidge
“Hey, babe. Hey, Kosmo!”
Keith pushed Kosmo off him, huffing
“How come he gets a happier hello?”
“Because he is best boy, and you are sleepy boy”
Keith sighed at him
“You know I had to wait until you landed before I could sleep”
“I know. Mami tried to get us lost”
Shooting a glance at his Mami, she was already making tea in the rooms kitchenette area
“Is that Keith? Hello, my mijo!”
Lance sighed, shooting Keith a look
“Hey, Mami!”
“Now who’s getting all the happy welcomes? How was today?”
“Boring. Long. I miss you”
“It’s only been a couple of days”
“Too long. How are my twins?”
Lance stood up, pulling his shirt up for Keith to see his belly
“Still in there”
“Hello, my little macaroons. Daddy loves you”
Lance rolled his eyes as he pulled his shirt down and sat back down
“They know. They have to hear it from me all the time”
Kosmo made another attempt at Keith’s laptop. Keith nearly spilling his coffee
“He’s a menace. Everyone keeps giving him treats and he’s stopped listening to me”
“That sounds about on par for him. Anyway, I only really called to let you know we got here safely”
“I’m glad... I really miss seeing you”
“You see me everyday”
Yeah. He missed Keith. He missed him so fucking much that he had to keep from crying during their calls
“You know it’s not the same”
“Yeah. It really isn’t but it’s not for that long”
“That’s true but it feels like forever”
“You’re not hanging up before I see my handsome son are you?”
Keith snorted at Mami, Lance had to fight for private Keith time
“I’m going to call him later”
“I want to see him”
“He’s still on the call!”
Lance groaned. All he wanted to do is talk to Keith
“Don’t hang up!”
“I’m not hanging up...”
“Good... Come make the tea so I can talk with Keith”
“He’s my boyfriend”
“Pish you”
The perils of your mother loving your boyfriend
“It’s okay, babe. Make the tea and come back”
Swapping place with his mother, Lance grabbed his suitcase of blood bags. Hopefully no one was going to be opening the hotel fridge... or that would be awkward. Coran had booked them a really, really nice suite. That Lance didn’t care about exploring until the following morning. The flight had been fine. Mami giving him a slight headache with her directions. They’d gotten in about 8pm. Perfect time for vampires to be flying. He had his box of grave soil. And he had his photos of Keith and his friends. Packing seemed like too much effort though. Especially with Keith right there on the laptop...
Bringing Mami’s tea over, he had his own blood bag in his teeth. Mami was filling Keith in on how nice the private plane was. She was gushing over how she’d be able to brag when they visited the family. Their holiday pretty much consisted of two weeks of being forced to “meet” everyone. Though he would be able to silently judge how they’d all aged. She was so excited. She’d been too excited really. Totally prepared for code names and assumed identities. She was going to be “Lola. The famous dancer with her younger, handsome, partner”. Coran dashed her hopes. They weren’t doing very many things other than seeing their family, so normal names were fine.
“Anyway, when are you coming down to see us...”
“Mami! We’re not allowed to tell Keith where we are!”
Mami chuckled at him
“You’re such a fuss pot”
“And Keith isn’t allowed to know where we are for his safety too. Sorry, babe...”
He’d love to tell Keith he was back in Cuba, waiting for him there. Coran would tell Keith when Keith was finally allowed to come see them
“It’s alright. I’ll just add to all the secrets Mami and I share”
Great. They were co-conspirators against him. If he wanted to be in danger, he’d still be in Platt
“I can’t win. Mami, go drink your tea. Keith, I’m sorry”
“It’s fine, babe. You look pretty tired...”
“I’ve been sleeping. These two are still keeping me up, but it’s okay”
Keith’s face softened. Lance wished he could reach through the screen and hug him
“I wish I could be there... It’s all grumpy people here”
“Grumpy people with dog treats”
“Yeah. There’s that. Fuck... I have to be up at 6. It’s inhumane”
Idiot. Keith was an idiot. He wasn’t going to be functional at all
“Babe! Go to bed. Put the coffee down and get some sleep!”
“I will now I know you’re okay. Oh, I’m supposed to say hi from the others”
“Tell them hello from us and we’re okay and I’m safe... ish”
His Mami smacked his arm
“He’s perfectly fine. He’s been a big baby without you”
Keith snorted. He was a traitor... a traitor Lance wished was waiting in the bed for him instead of in Rome
“I’m sure that’s not the case. I’m going to go, but I love you, babe. Love you too, Mami, and I’ll try call later”
“I love you too, give Kosmo extra hugs from me”
“He doesn’t need them. He’s a total himbo”
“He is best boy living his best life”
“Right. I’ll remember that the next time he pees on the bed. Anyway, I’m happy you’re safe. I love you”
“I love you, too. See you later”
Lance closed the chat with a sigh. He should have gone to Rome. He should have been there with Keith, and not with his boyfriend stealing mother
“Keith seemed tired”
“It’s 3am there, Mami”
There was a time difference she was forgetting
“What’s he doing awake then?”
Lance sighed again. They were barely in Cuba and he wanted to go home
“Because he wanted to know when landed safely. I know you’re excited, but we really can’t talk about Platt or about him”
“I know. Relax, mijo. I know. Let me be happy to see our Keith”
Ugh. He wanted to be happy to see his Keith. He didn’t want to share... Allura, Lotor, Acxa, Zethrid and Ezor had left on an earlier flight. They thought he was going north to Canada, where he was just a border away from coming back home if he needed to. He hadn’t even told Hunk and Pidge, only that Mami was coming with him and they’d be home for Christmas
“I know you know. I’m just being stupid. I’ll get unpacked and we can go to bed. I know Aunt Sarah’s supposed to see us tomorrow morning”
“You worry too much, mijo. I’m a tough old bird, and I finally get to show off my handsome son again”
“Grandson”
Mami shot him a look. Okay. Let a man worry
“Yes, yes. I know the story. Be a good boy and drink your blood up. We want those twins as health as they can be”
“They’re fine. They’re not doing much but taking up space rent free now”
“You’ve become much bossier. What happened to my sweet little boy?”
“He went and got pregnant. If I leave you alone with my laptop, you’re not going to get into mischief are you?”
“That’s for me to know. Now of you go. I’ll have my tea, then off to bed”
Great. What a great way to start a holiday. Would it really be too soon to call Coran and beg to come back? Why had he thought a family reunion was a great idea?
15 "are you seriously giving me the silent treatment" fluff prompt with Keith and allura please.
Ok so this is like… Ages late, but here ya go!
An Evening of Ruined Stars
Ao3
Word Count: 1,898
Rating: T
Summary: Conversations shine brightest on the open road and in the centre of a deserted ruin.
Her fingers dig into his side, her arms snaked around his waist and the helmet on her head sliding slightly.
But.
She’s unnervingly silent, he doesn’t know what she’s thinking about but this is the first time she’s actually come to him since… Since he left and they got back to Earth, he can feel her internal warmth as she seems to dig her face into his shoulder as the wind whips past his own and he cannot hear a thing but can feel her heartbeat.
So, he does the only thing he can.
He drives across the desert roads, something he’s done a million times, the stars shining up into the night sky and he wonders if she feels it too.
That pull.
That calling sound that echoes from the stars and sings in his ears.
“I hear it.” It’s a whisper next to his ear, “I hear it stronger with every day I’m here.”
He wanted to return to the stars.
“I want to return to the stars.” Allura murmurs, leaning her head back and looking straight up at the sky.
Keith starts to slow his hoverbike, she leans forwards again and her helmet implants itself in the center of his back.
The wind is no longer in his ears.
“Me too.”
He pulls to a full stop, Allura moves and gets off of the bike, hopping down onto the dusty plane in front of them. Her hands reach up and gently pull the helmet from her head, her hair is flying out of her bun in weird directions and he can’t help it.
His fingers close around the hairpin sticking up and he pulls it out, watching her hair tumble down her back like an unfurling ploom of smoke.
Her whole body freezes, she doesn’t move “Why… Why did you…” She’s grasping for words and not looking at him, “Why did you do that?”
“I don’t know…” He admits so quietly that she now does turn to him, “You look nice with your hair down.”
And Allura starts completely, turning towards him with her face red “Stop that.”
“Stop what?” She frowns as she fiddles with the end of her hair, “Talking like you missed me.”
He climbs fully off of his bike and stands in front of her, looking her in the eyes, he’s taller now but with the quiet night shining above him he is reminded of holding her hands in his, how her eyes echoed the stars around them and he’s…
“I missed you Allura.” Her breath hitches slightly, before he can second guess himself he’s reaching up and brushing hair away from her face, “I missed you more than I missed anyone else.”
Her eyes are storming he realises, not sadness… Something deeper, something that can’t decide if it’s rage or relief.
“I left.” Keith says, she hasn’t pushed him away, so he continues to twirl his finger in her hair, being careful not to brush her skin, “I shouldn’t have.”
She says nothing, but her lips twist as if she wants to.
“But… I’m not good at this you know that right?” He moves his full hand through her hair now, “I can’t string emotions together in words like Lance and Hunk, I can’t leave something implied as well as Shiro or Pidge… I just…”
Quiznak, he wished she’d say something.
“We need to talk.” He states it as softly as he can, he moves to remove his hand from her hair but her helmet hangs in her left hand as she reaches up to stop him, there’s wide alarm in her eyes as if she hadn’t meant to do that, “We have… So much to talk about.”
Allura looks at him, she’s just looking at him. Her lips pressed into a line, a line that scares him beyond belief.
“We do.” She agrees finally.
His sigh is of relief and before he can stop himself he’s falling forwards and landing on her shoulder, “It’s probably an argument we’re going to end up having.” “Multiple times.” There’s a note of humour in Allura’s voice he realises, the wind blows somewhere quietly, “…..Can I try driving?”
He laughs, pulling back “Sure, if you really want to.”
Her eyes sparkle, “Really? We used to have bikes like this on Altea, but I wasn’t allowed near them since they were ‘Not appropriate for proper ladies of standing’.” Her tone goes somehow even posher, “….My nanny wasn’t very giving when I was a child.”
“You had a nanny?”
Her blush returns, “…..Only in my younger years when my parents were busy with affairs of court.” She twiddles her thumbs, “When I became a young adult my Father moved her to take care of some other noble’s newborn and I joined him and my Mother in watching the affairs of our kingdom.” Keith blinks, “That must have been a good experience.” “It was so boring I would have preferred an etiquette lesson in cutlery over that.” He laughs, she smiles finally.
“Give me the keys.” Is what she says once his laughter dies down.
He complies.
She’s a natural.
“Put a bit more pressure into the accelerator.” He softly inputs, she follows his direction with ease and shifts back against him as he does, he pulls his arms tighter around her waist and for some reason her shoulders become less tense, “There we go…”
Her hair has been pulled back into a ponytail, she’s tucked it down the collar of the simple t-shirt and jeans she’s borrowed from Nadia.
But what he’s enjoying seeing in the mirrors is the smile on her face as she drives, they still need to talk. He knows that, but he tucks his head in her collarbone as the wind whips around them as she speeds up, helmet in the storage compartment after some mild bickering about safety measures.
(“We’re DEFENDERS OF THE UNIVERSE Keith, we don’t need helmets where we’re going.” “Uh-huh? And where is that?”“…………….I don’t know.”)
Her eyes were wide and sparkling the further she drove, they passed through one of the suburbs that hadn’t been reached by the rebuilding effort yet and she slowed.
“Can we walk for awhile?” She asks so quietly, slipping off the hoverbike before he can answer and just starting to walk through the desolate rubble with foliage starting to climb over the broken pieces of what were once near identical houses.
Her hair glows in the moonlight and he can’t help but follow her, the leather jacket on his shoulders is heavy as the wind blows through the area, waking up dust and rustling weeds on the ground around them in random spots.
Allura runs a hand over some of the grey brick where moss has grown in the darker patches, furniture is strewn around the place, it looks like something out of book about what happens after humanity dies out, he looks around and realises….
“We stopped the end of another planet but not without casualties.” She speaks up, turning towards him with her arms pressed behind her back, “I’m glad we saved Earth, I am but…” “We don’t belong here?”
Her eyes go wide, “We?” There’s a note of disbelief in her tone, “You haven’t said that since we ran away because we thought Zarkon was chasing us.” There’s a little fondness in her voice with the disbelief.
“Best roadtrip ever.”
She laughs, a small twinkling sound that moves with her as she continues to walk through the ruins, “We got stranded in space!”
“I got to see the stars up close.”
“You are impossible.”
He laughs this time and catches up with her, “Have you seen anything of Earth that you actually like?” His question hangs between them as she hums, jumping up in the simple boots she wears onto a stone in the middle of an empty gap.
“The Ocean was nice to see.” She admits, looking around her “….Even if I was sinking into it when I saw most of it, what about you? Anything on Earth you like to look at?”
Keith stands next to her, looking up at her on the rock though she was only an inch taller than him standing on it these days, “The Desert and the Cities.”
“Can I ask why?”
She uses his shoulder as a hand rest as she climbs down, ending up in front of him instead, making it easy for him to look at her properly, her eyes wide at him, curiosity brimming just below the surface and there they were.
The constellations.
“You’re wonderful.”
Allura blushes.
He blushes, “I said that out loud didn’t I?”
“Yes, yes you did.”
She reaches up tentatively, slowly as if she’s expecting him to disappear, her fingertips skim his cheek and back away again as she takes a step back, her eyes are downcast.
“Let’s continue exploring.”
“I think you left because you were trying to find yourself.” She begins, a little in front of him on the trail they’d located, “That and you were worried about rejection as the Leader since Shiro was back.”
He shrugs, “Mostly the latter, but it wasn’t Shiro’s rejection I was afraid of.”
“Then who’s…” Allura stops, she turns to him him her lips in a small ‘O’ expression, “Keith, the team would never reject you, you know that.”
Keith walks towards her, “Allura, it wasn’t the team’s either.”
She blinks, “….Mine?”
“Yours.” He whispers it.
She looks away and continues walking.
“I was hurt because you said Voltron couldn’t go on without me… And then Voltron did.”
Allura laughs, it’s broken slightly and less calm than before following his confession a few minutes ago, “No we did not, Voltron was a mess! We didn’t know who to follow and Shiro was acting strange, then we threw Lotor into the mix! Keith if you’d been there then I probably wouldn’t have ever…” She trails off.
“That wasn’t your fault, I’m sorry I suggested it was back when we were stranded in space.”
“…..I’m sorry it seemed like we replaced you… No, like I replaced you.” Her voice is softer, smoother, “You aren’t replaceable Keith, I was lost without you.”
He can’t breathe when she looks at him this time.
“I would very much like to be found I think.”
Time is passing and he’s not talking and she’s…
“Are you seriously giving me the ‘Silent Treatment’ right now Kogane?”
Keith admittedly does a double take, “How do you know what that is?” She shrugs, “Pidge has been doing it to Lance, she thinks we’re dating and no one’s attempting to tell her otherwise…. It’s ridiculous.”
“Why don’t you tell her?” “Because she won’t listen to me.” Allura huffs, “Pidge doesn’t listen to anyone.”
He takes a step towards her, “So, you and Lance aren’t together?” “I’ve been flirting and pouring my heart out to you for the last hour Keith, no we aren’t together…” She crosses her arms, “Honestly, you and Pidge should just be together you’re both so stubborn.”
They stand there and look at each other, before Allura smiles. She’s smiling like she’s having fun, it was a rare sight at this point.
Keith finds that he’s smiling too.
“So… You’ve been flirting with me for the last hour?”
“Thank you for noticing!” She huffs, before laughing.
Allura grabs his hand.
He never wants her to let go ever again.
Note
Acxa is not used to the cold, she hates it, but she didn't know Earth could be so cold so she is not prepared for it at all. When Keith touches her he notices that she is freezing and covers her with a hat, gloves, scarf and a million jackets cause he doesn't want his crush getting sick. Acxa wanted to protest that she could handle it (LIES) but no one had cared so much about her in such a long time that she accepted her fate as a galra burrito. Also her crush is touching her and she is 🙃💜
So, like, I just...I guess this was some sort of an experiment for me? Kacxa really hasn’t had much romantic feelings (I still love the ship to pieces tho) so I tried? And it came out pretty long? Whoops? Enjoy? Read under the cut?
When Acxa arrived on Earth, she had no idea just what she was getting into. It was primitive compared to many planets she’s visited, but, when finding of how old the planet was, she realized that Earth will be more advanced than anything she’s ever seen.
That’s the people of Earth, the planet itself is beautiful. Keith and the Paladins had shown her around in their free time, taking her to some of the most beautiful places she has ever seen and building up their bond from acquaintances to friends. But a wacky thing about Earth is that it has a strange climate.
In the daytime, the temperatures are fairly warm in the desert; it isn’t as hot as some other planets she’s visited.
In the nighttime, however, the desert drops to extreme cold weather. Some of the coldest she’s been in.
This, she learned on the ride to the Kogane residence for the Holidays. The Paladins all went to their families, Allura, Coran, and Romelle tagged along with the McClains for the holidays, for the seasonal celebrations for the first time since their return.
Since she had no family, the Paladins actually made plans to celebrate the holidays together the following day to pass time with her and as friends. Krolia, however, stepped in and invited Acxa to their shack for Christmas, Keith almost immediately agreeing to the idea.
He totally got teased for it by Pidge later on.
Acxa sped through the desert sand on the dirt bike the Garrison lent her and she sped her way to the coordinates Krolia gave her. The sunsets in the desert were beautiful, some of the most beautiful she’s ever seen on a planet. Sure, it was nothing compared to the sunsets multiple suns at the same time, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
Her hair swooshed behind her as she sped faster and faster and Acxa felt the air cool exponentially as the sun descended under the horizon. She shivered and attempted to pull at the cloth at her neck to cover more skin. It didn’t work, but she didn’t mind it that much and she shrugged it off.
After a while, Acxa finally saw the shack in the far distance and she slowed the bike, swinging her feet off the seat as she approached the steps. She leaned it against the porch’s banister and she shivered when a chilly breeze nipped at her nose.
She let out a shaking breath and she gasped when a puff of white flowed out of her mouth, her eyes widened and she cupped her mouth and whispered to herself, “What the quiznak?”
Acxa then felt a warmth from her breath and she sighed, starting to blow into her hands, the warm breath ricocheting back onto her face.
She took the two steps to the house’s porch, her shivering getting more intense
with each second she spent outside. The warm glow of the house’s light coaxed her to walk faster and she mustered up the courage to knock. She lifted her hand to knock on the door at the same time as the door opened. Her hand fell back to her side and her eyes widened when she stood face-to-face with Keith.
His lips curled up in a small smile and he greeted, “Umm. Hi.”
Acxa smiled and returned the greeting, “Hi.”
They just stood there awkwardly, both adults avoiding each other’s eyes trying to hide their blush, before they both heard pounding footsteps approaching them. Krolia stood behind Keith, her entire form bundled in multiple jackets, scarves, and sweaters.
They both looked over Keith’s shoulder to look at Krolia and the older Galra smiled, “Acxa! You made it just in time! Come, I’m making something called “hot chocolate”.”
Keith blinked and his eyes jumped from between Krolia and Acxa, a horrified look on his face and…blush? No, that must be from the cold. Keith doesn’t blush. Heck, he rarely smiles outside of Team Voltron.
Acxa smiled and stepped into the threshold when Krolia pulled herself and Keith away from the door. She sighed in relief that it was slightly warmer in the house than it was outside, but her breath was still iced and she was still puffing.
Krolia went ahead and headed back into the kitchen to let the young adults talk. Keith stuffed his hands in his pocket and gestured to the couch, “Uh, sit down.”
Acxa slowly sat down, surprised to find the seat much more luxurious than anything she has ever sat on before and she sunk into the couch’s soft, cold cushions.
Keith looked down at the shivering girl and he immediately shrugged off his jacket and offered it to her. Acxa looked up confused and Keith elaborated, “Take it. I guess mom forgot to tell you how cold it gets down here.”
Acxa took it hesitantly, her claws brushing Keith’s knuckles, and she shrugged it on. Keith left her to put it on, Acxa fighting off a deep sigh when the warm fabric immediately warmed her up. She crossed her arms and dug her head deep into the high collar, a faint masculine smell filling her nostrils with its soft scent.
Keith then came tumbling back inside wearing a new jacket and carrying three other articles of clothing in his hand. Acxa looked up owlishly and Keith ordered, “Stand up.”
Acxa followed the orders obediently, although she didn’t know how he’s gained so much power over her, and stood. Keith then proceeded to lead her arm into another jacket, his warm hand holding hers sparking more heat in her body than both jackets combined.
“Wh-what are you doing?” she stuttered.
“You’re cold. Galrans are more sensitive to cold than humans are. You need these,” he explained.
“I can put on a jacket myself,” Acxa argued.
Keith chuckled, “I know. I still want to.”
Acxa tried to look at his eyes, but he hung his head low and his bangs partially covered his violet eyes. His raven hair started brushing her nose as he took a step closer to put another jacket on her. Now, his nose was just a hair’s breath away from touching her own and their hot breaths are mingling together, the only sound coming from their breathing.
Then, when Keith tried to put her right hand in its sleeve, he couldn’t get it around the two other jackets. Keith looked up sheepishly and smiled nervously, “Uh, could you, twirl around?”
Acxa twirled around and she felt Keith slide her arm up into the sleeve. However, when she turned back to face him, she tripped on the rug under the couch and she clashed into Keith, his hands immediately placing themselves on her waist to steady her. Her head landed on his chest and she immediately balanced herself.
Yet, she still doesn’t know why she’s still holding on to him.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered almost inaudibly.
“It’s fine,” Keith responded just as quietly.
“There’s a mistletoe above your heads,” Krolia added loudly, making both adults jump, though still not letting go of their embrace.
Both looked up with wide eyes and, sure enough, there was a mistletoe plant hanging from the ceiling from a red ribbon. Acxa went red in the face once she recognized the plant from Lance’s jokes in the Garrison.
From her understanding after Lance explained succeeding to catch Allura under the mistletoe when one is caught under the mistletoe, they need to kiss the person
they’re with or they get fed to the klanmürl. Or something like that.
She felt the blood rush to her face and her eyes widened. Before she could look at Keith’s eyes, she took interest to the floor and glued her gaze onto the very interesting rug.
Keith, however, had none of that.
He took her chin between her thumb and middle finger and lifted her face to look up at him.
Her eyes looked up into his purple eyes: his first feature she was intrigued by. They were kind. They were intense. They were passionate. They were caring. They were powerful. They were wise. They were the windows of his soul. And right now, she’s scared to identify the look he’s giving her now; it makes her feel warm, makes her feel safe. It’s doing something to her, she doesn’t know what. All she knows is that she likes it.
“I’m just…going to give you two some privacy,” Krolia added, immediately dashing out of the room after she sees the tension between the two.
They don’t even react to the interruption; their gazes are glued to the other’s eyes.
Her eyes are like magnets, Keith decided; they lure him to her. Those eyes were hidden from him the first time they met, hidden by a mask meant to hide her from him. Those eyes were angry with him the second time they met, both of them held at a standstill in their first encounter as enemies.
Those eyes were glaring at him the third time they met, but it was right after she saved him from an attacking Galra. Those eyes were attacking him the fourth time they met, him having returned from the abyss and her fighting on the opposite side again.
The fifth time, though, was the first time he truly thought about her eyes. The fifth time, they fought on the same side for the first time. The fifth time, they connected in a way he never has with anyone before.
After that, he couldn’t keep track of the times he’s been mesmerized by her eyes, heck, he couldn’t count the times he’s been mesmerized by her period.
And now really shouldn’t be the time to do an introspection of their relationship. Not when she is in his arms and her breath hitting his neck. Not when she’s looking like that while looking at him like that.
“We don’t have to-,“ Acxa swallowed her words down when Keith pushed his lips
on hers. The two of them kissed each other ravenously, eating each other up and pulled themselves closer than they had ever imagined.
Keith’s hands gripped onto Acxa’s top-layered jacket and pulled her flush against him, the jacket balled up into his fist as he feverishly moved his mouth against hers.
Acxa moved her hands to Keith’s jaw, her fingertips gently brushing the skin right under his ears, smiling when Keith kissed harder with each brush of her fingers in that area. When Keith would pull away for air, Acxa barely gave him breathing time before smashing her lips on his again and sliding her tongue into his mouth. That roused out a noise out of him that she just found more delicious
After some…tongue maneuvers…the two ceded and kissed themselves out of their high. Their once-long kisses shortened to short, cute pecks on the lips, nose, neck, and forehead until the two finally calmed down enough to be able to form words in their head.
Acxa smiled up at Keith and he returned one equally warm and the two stood in a comfortable embrace before breaking out in hysteric laughter.
“That was…” Acxa began, her giggles dying down.
“Unexpected…” Keith finished, wiping a tear from his eyes.
“…Late seemed more appropriate for my situation,” Acxa corrected.
“Well, it’s only been a few months for me,” Keith justified.
“Three years, Keith. I’ve been waiting for you for three years,” Acxa teased.
“You did not wait for me that long,” Keith argued, the two adopting an unusual teasing tone.
“I did too. I don’t just let anyone escape from my clutches. Nor do I save just anyone from losing in a fight,” Acxa smiled, her eyes wrapping around Keith’s neck again.
“Really?”
“Yes. They have to have the flippity hair,” to emphasize her point, Acxa brushed her fingertips on his forehead and moving his bangs aside.
Keith smirked, “Shut up. You fell for this flippity hair.”
He didn’t give her time to respond before he started kissing her again.
“You see that Tex?” Krolia asked the air, a smile playing on her face as her son exchanged kisses with the sweet girl in the living room.
She didn’t wait for a response. She wasn’t expecting one. He was long-gone before she could do anything, but she still felt him there with her.
“We made that.”
Outside, the snowflakes dancing in the night sky danced faster, hitting the wind chimes out their door.
Krolia smiled. “Merry Christmas, Tex.”
Book1 hope returns chapter 12 battle for the castle By Goldstonegolem64
Just finished editing is chapter so have fun reading this
Shiro and Sendak Clashed. Every time one throw a punch the of they counter. Sendak was Strong and brutal. But Shiro was fast and agile dodging ever single bone shattering blow throw at him.
“the druids had fun Experimenting on you to bad you didn't get the latest mode”
“Bigger isn't always better”
They counited fighting but Shiro was starting to get tried and he missed steps. Sendak took the opportunity and slammed him send him flying backward. Then he launched his gauntlet  trying to grab Shiro. Shiro saw the clawed hand come toward him He scrambled to his feet in vein as the gauntlet wrapped around his waist and tossed in to the sky. Sendak smiled as He though the victory was his but then He felt his collar being grad and then being through in to the vestibule of the castle then Shiro ran at sendaks aiming for his throat. Only stopping when he heard two voices.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you” Ringal said while holding a plasma pistol to lance head
“Stand-down and the blue paladin lives” Hexus said
That moment of hesitation was all Sendak need to knock Shiro out
Back in the Hanger bay Jay was fairing not as well as Shiro. every time He lied a hit on Fairin His blade just scuffed his armor and every time Fairin hit him he felt his bones breaking .He was on the defensive most of the time as he tried o block the blows only to be knock around the room. This was not his wheel house he was not a close quarters What  the hell made him think he could win this fight using a weapon he was not trained to use but he had to keep going For lance. But as he was think about his life choses his back had hit a wall then he felt his head get smashed with the hammer sending him to the floor.
“so this is one of the great paladins of Voltron a weak foolish young man oh how the might have fallen“
“I’m not a paladin of Voltron I'm the pilot of the Valkyrie” Jay said spiting blood at the feet of Fairin
“Doesn't matter you'll die like the other”Fairin Said Raising the hammer over his head then brought it down.
Jay shield threw up his  Shield to meet the hammer. He felt his metal arm shack as the hammer came back down. He tried to keep the hammer at bay but his shield started to crack under the contented slamming of the hammer. He know his guns wouldn't do much to stop this onslaught so he thought of his friends in his last moments as the shield brock and said sorry guy I failed to keep lance safe and sorry I failed to live up to the title of paladin, mom I'm coming home Jay though closing his eyes and prepared to meet his end. Then a loud scream was hear then a louder scream was hear and the smell of burning Hair. Jay opened his eyes to see Pidge was on the back of Fairin With her Bayard dug in to Fairin’s neck Sending a current of electricity through his body. Fairin was trying to get the small green paladin off his back then he throw himself against a wall smashing Pidge causing her to let go and slumped to the floor That sent Jay in to a rage getting back on his feet and ran at Fairin yelling “Get the hell away From her” jumping in to his foe knock the both to the ground. Jay lifted his blade and brought it down on Fairin head this time making shore he was dead.Firing his Bayard in to Fairin chest. Leaving it imbedded in his Foe’s head and walked over to pidge to see it she was alright
“Hey small fries you still with me?”
“yay I'm still here" She said a little Dizzy
Helping her get up on to her feet then they heard a popping sound Turning to see some one hovering over Fairin body. Raising both of their Bayard to face this new foe.
“Look what you have done to my toy” Ringal said pulling the ax out of his head not paying any minds to the paladins then brought it down on his neck. Both Pidge And Jay watching it only to fined out there was no blood coming out  just oil. “I hate when I have to repair you love but you two are interesting it normal takes ten men to destroy Fairin But you two took him out the moment you started to work together I will make note of that goodbye and give sendak my regards ” She Said disappearing with the head into a bright purple light.
“So he was a android” Pidge Said
“Yes he was and now we have only have to deal with two Galra solider I think and a group of sentries if their are any”
in that moment the two felt the castle shack as I started to filled off
Outside of the castle
Keith Adam and Allura had to just returned from the village after they found out the attack was a distraction getting back to the castle with help from Valkyrie to find Beauregard’s half broken body slamming its fist in to the purple particle barrier.
“What happened here "Allura asked
S-s-Sendak attacked w-w-when you l-l-lifted "beau replied
“Where is Shiro and the other” Keith asked
“S-S-Shiro and L-L-Lance are c-c-capture the o-o-other I d-d-don't know”.
just then the castle started to shack and lifted up slowly
“oh no they started the lift off sequence” Allura said
“Hey is anybody out there” a voice said over Keith's helmet
Yes pidge were outside of the castle Keith said pulling of his helmet and putting the comms on speaker so everyone.
is anyone else with you Adam asked
“Just me” Jay said
“Thank God” Beauregard said
Then the two groups discussed a plan of attack and to stop the lift off. So pidge and jay now know that there were thirteen sentries and they had to make their way to the engine room undetected and discounted the main console to start a reset the lift off sequence. On their way they found three sentries standing Guard in front of the central energy chamber room
“What do we do” Pidge asked
“Leave it to me "Jay said
 Jay pulled out the ax Closed one eye parade for a miracle throwing the ax and hit one with the hand knock it down the other two were about to start shooting only to be cut down by pidge
She turned around with a look of annoys  and said “ that was your plan”
“it worked didn't it” Jay said walking up to the sentry on the floor trying to get back up and shot it with his Bayard.
“Ok now this is where we spit up right” Pidge said
“alright I will head up the bridge and cause a distraction while you will disconnect  the engine room console. So keep her safe’ Jay said to rover jokingly
“he will and stay safe yourself ” pidge said walking into the central energy chamber
Jay made his way up to the bridge only begin stopped by two sentries eliminating then quickly and quietly. Getting  closer to the room two more sentries were Guarding the path way to the bridge. Then the castle came crashing down. Jay used that time to shot the guards and used the Nosie of the castle falling back in to place to mask the two sentries falling down. Jay was smiling as he walked up to the bridge and heard Allura voice in his helmet then he heard it in the bridge that looking in to the room he saw two galra staring at a screen that showed a map of pidge's location. Then he saw shiro and lance were in the corner of the room unconscious finally heard allura voice saying
“Alright pidge now head to the particle barrier generator and let us in”
That was not good so in at moment jay decided to forget the plan and he ran to her location to tell her that shit had hit the fan and not wanting to fight the two galra by himself and the fact if he missed fired he might kill Shiro or lance in the fire fight .unaware that a group of sentries were on there way to her location he ran as fast as his legs could talk him running past the pain that started to come back from his fight with Fainin.  Pidge crawled out of the vent she was in that lead her in to the particle barrier generator. Taking off her helmet to rest a moment and recalled what her dad told her that she would be part of something the universe would notice those words filled her pride and detrenation so she cared on remembering that Shiro, lance and everyone else were counting on her. Putting her helmet back and ask Allura for instruction on how to turn off the particle barrier and was warned to be careful because the particle barrier was also a weapon. as they were talking a group of five galra started to fire on her. Rover quickly pushed her over to saver her from the blaster fire. The moment pidge started to yell about sentries Allura contacted the mice and told them to get to the particle barrier and help pidge.
Pidge looked for a way out of this situation she find a shaft above her . The she heard a voice yelling and the sound of blaster fire.pidge peaked out of her cover to see what was going on to find Jay with his shield up blocking the bolts yelling about how they were found out and to get herself out of here. she used that as a distraction to throw a hologram of herself  toward a energy arc in the hall way. the other three sentry who weren't shooting at jay turned their attention toward the hologram and fire on it hit the arc causing a explosion taking out one of the sentries. Using the blast as her moment to run she used her Bayard  grappling hook and swiftly pulled herself up to the exit shaft she had found before jay showed up. Stunned by her accomplishment she scrambled in to the shaft and the moment pidge was out  jay fired from behind his shield at the two sentries firing at him hitting one in the chest and the other in midriff with both his assailant down jay followed behind the two sentries chasing after Pidge
In the training room pidge had just slip in to another shaft after she took out one of her two assailant with the invisible maze she and the other had trained. but one of the a galra drone made it out of the maze and was now  shooting at her knocking her off her footing and send her falling down another shaft using her grabbing hook to hit the shaft above the sentries . placing her free hand on the wall pulled back her Bayard then launch it in to the face of the sentry and pulled the bot down the shaft. Then It explode when it hit the bottom of the shaft. Pidge would have fallen if it wasn't for rover who was using is body to support pidge.
Jay decide to braking radio silent and say “  pidge where the hell are you”
I'm in the vent heading to the central energy chamber ”
“alright I will meet you there”
In the central energy chamber Hexus was undoing the damage pidge had done with help from sendak and rebooted the launch sequence Then the door open and a small cylinder round on in. her starred at it confused then a bright light erupted from the small cylinder blinding him. Jay walked in to the room laughing about the how he finally used that flash grenade he grader before he and pidge left the hanger bay and started their sabotage. Pidge on the other hand climbed  back in to room with the help of rover scaling the wall scanning the console and gain access to the control system with help with her armor’s computer  then she heard  a body hit the floor that body was jay with a huge gash in his armor and a small pool start to form under him. In his moment of gloating jay didn't now that Hexus sight returned a few second after the blast and draw his blade and slashed cross jay body. Turning around and started up the main engine then he heard a loud yell of “Noooooooooo” pidge screeched and proceed  to overload the engine and send a shock wave through the room hitting hexus yet survived the blast. But pidge didn't know that she just ran to jay body lifting up his torso and started to shacking him tying to Wake him up. seeing a cut along his chest down to stomach bleeding .
“Come on Jay walk up we have to save lance and Shiro "tears forming in her eyes ”we have a job to do and you have a family to go back to” she said crying while hold her friends body
“Children have been giving us is much trouble "he said
I'm a paladin of Voltron not a child and I will save my family. She said laying jay back down, whipping tears from he eye and stud up to face hexus
Hexus draw his blade laughing I'm a soldier of the galra Empire who can only be stopped by triumph or death
He rushed at pidge with his sword and while she dodge his attacks she launch her Bayard to hit him. As he teetered on the side of the cat walk Rover slammed in to him. As he fell he grad rover. in horror pidge watch as rover power down to take hexus with him. Has the two fell pidge watched as jay moved over to the side of the cat walk stretching out his arms and legs he grad rover right out hexus grasp. “How I survived that slash because this armor is build Tonka tough “
“are thought just toy “
Yes but Mar is full of old soul who still saw that and the reason I saved rover was because he's part of this new weird family of ours now lets save the rest of them. he tried to get up only to fall back down so pidge and rover helped him leave the room when sendaks voice rang their out the castle
“Hexus are you there what happened”
Sendak starred at the two paladins left the view of the screen then he start to take to Shiro about how impressed he is that Shiro escaped his initial year long capture and he ponder if he shoulder go back to earth to fined any move strong spirted fighter like him. But at the back of his mind he though about killing ringal for just leaving with out warning him about the two paladins Has he was starring at the screen he saw the green paladin appeared on the screen and turned and attacked her. She dodge the attacks and lead sendak out of the room where the real pidge hastily snuck in leaving jay  behind and  trying to talk to Shiro
Wake up Shiro we have to go "She said
Shiro started to wake up to see Pidge get grabbed by the Sendaks gauntlet
“I'm done being toyed with” Sendak said
Just then Adam ,Allura ,Keith ,a limping Jay and beau in a heavy load body came in to the bridge. Sendak starred in confusion
“How did you back in” he asked
“We has friends in small places” Allura replied
cut to the altean mice  and the four  drones that jay own in the particle barriers room just terrorizing the last sentry a and sending it to arc of energy destroying it then hitting the button that turn off the barrier.
Seeing he was outnumber he used his new hostage and order everyone to lower their weapon or the green paladin die only to be cut off by a shot in the back from lance who was just smile the when back in to his coma like state causing sendak to let go of pidge . Next thing sendak know Shiro slammed in to him and Keith rushed him blocking the first blow from the red paladin then he was kicked over and barely blocked the next strike catching the red paladin and launched him backward leaving the connect of his arm to his body open for pidge to cut the connection. With the arm gone Jay and Adam open fire causing sendak to move back do to the focus of impact every bolt had none we fatal by they push him to the center of the room. They stopped fire to let Allura get to the main console .Enrage by the small paladin he focused her out throwing punches and kicks to no effected. Keith got back up after pushing the powerless gauntlet off him, Allura accessed the computer of the bridge as the group closed in on sendak caught the red paladin blade again  and ignored the pain of shocks and impact of bolts he didn't realize this was a trap he had fallen to. Keith let go of his Bayard and kick sendak with both he leg sending him backward. then a barrier appeared around Sendak and his trapping him and the galra crystal.
Keith and pidge ran to lance to see how he was doing and he looked at them and said “we make a great team” then fell back to sleep
Yay we won Jay yelled before slamming in to the ground ”when the powers back put me in to a heal pod please my body just when nun a ” he said before passing out from everything that happen to him today
A few hours later hunk and coran return with a new crystal returning power to the ship. Finally putting both lance and jay in to healing pod the team would have to wait a full day for lance to full healed and for  jay they had to wait six hour for him to wake.So they waited , rested and prepared to for their next mission to save the balmera.
