A little 15 min doodle but first post of the year has to be Bingqiu!

#ok its time to get mushy in the tags because I doubt anyone would read them too closely #I’ve had severe art block for YEARS before I got into danmei in 2024 #and it wasn’t that my skill was gone it’s just that I thought nothing I did was good enough #I started reading danmei around the summer of last year and I got SO INSPIRED #I dived into the fandom side of things (I haven’t been in a live fandom in years) and was so excited about all the art people were making #and writing! and music! and animatics!#everything was so bright and colorful and beautiful #and everyone had such cool designs for these book characters that I’d grown to love #so I took a chance and doodled a little Luo Binghe and posted him on here #and I was so taken aback by how welcoming and sweet the fandom was #it made me wanna keep taking chances and posting my art— because I think that’s one of the hardest things I’ve come to accept #that even if it’s not good enough for me #someone else may enjoy it #and ain’t it crazy that ive come to enjoy drawing again too #sure the interaction has been fun but it’s been even more fun experimenting with my style and experimenting with colors and rendering #and grayscale and angles #and composition and expressions #ahh!! art is so fun!! Of characters who are parallel lines?#Of running the same course as someone. Of echoing each other in perfect synchronicity.#It's more than being a foil. It's about being on the same path and being so near to each other.#and yet parallel lines never intersect. They cannot meet each other despite their existence being tied to another.#I think the brothers tragedy is just as much of a tragedy of parallel lines as is pre-resurrection wangxian.#Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian spend so much time running side by side and yet - they cant close this gap between them.#Even if their relationship never recovers - they are forever tied together through their past. The good and bad and ugly.#All the things that are left unsaid between them. All the love and sacrifices they made for each other that are never shared. Parallel line #I firmly believe any post-canon material that would have them be indifferent towards each other is just...really doing them a disservice.#And dear god the Lan brothers. They certainly love each other! Its a far fonder fraternal relationship than jiangxian (/platonic)#They fool you by having you think they have a good read on each other. Lan Xichen certainly wingmans + advocates for lwj!#But lets not forget - Lan Xichen by the end is in the reverse situation and headspace as Lan Wangji by the end of this story.#Lan Wangji is more free and open than he has ever been. He's in love. He's married. He and wwx are intersecting lines.#& LXC who grew up with and lived the same path as LWJ - who even is said to resemble him visually - his parallel line - shuts himself away #Despite all the love LWJ has for his brother I don't think he ever manages to reach him.

#connie corleone #carmela corleone #the godfather #web weaving #this is...quite negative towards carmela i guess #so i just want to make it clear that i actually really love her as a character and i actually can understand how she became who she was #she was a woman born in the late 19th century raised not just in a patriarchal society but a CATHOLIC patriarchal society #who therefore grew up learning that she was primarly defined by her relationship to her husband and her capacity to be a 'good wife'#so i totally understand why she would take some type of sick pride in knowing that her husband never 'had' to hit her #but like...that entire part of the book was legit hard to read and Carmela was really not that much better than Vito there #so it's kinda hard for me not side eyed the shit out of her when she blame Connie for being a neglectful mom #like geez Carmela I wonder why your daugther might be struggling I'm sure it has nothing to do with anything you did or refused to do...#i'll say that she did end up being concerned for Connie and trying to help so she definitely deserves some points here #unlike Vito's dumbass who was just like 'it really hurts me to know that my daughter is being hit all the time but i can't do anything :('#'I'll tell her it's all her fault and that she deserves to be hit that will surely help somehow'#Vito really spent the entirety of this book being like 'nothing and I mean NOTHING matters more than blood (conditions very much applies)'#domestic violence mention

#I watched it today it was so good #im not big on dinosaur stuff but i like how it was used to approach the predator/prey conversation especially when both sides are sentient #instead of just defaulting to well since predators are meat eaters their actions are automatically immoral so their role in the story #has to match. and then when your characters /are/ meat eaters you just step around that whole topic #heart knows he has to kill and eat so there’s no avoiding it but even he knows he has agency over that #hell he even decided to hunt by himself so umasou doesn’t have to see him kill and eat another dinosaur a day after meeting him #and maybe its because it’s a kids movie but it also doesn’t make a big show over the act of hunting and eating. it doesn’t dwell on it #like yes you can clearly see them ripping into guts minus the graphic details but it doesnt go out of its way to censor it either #its played straight just like hearts mom having more kids like nobody asks who the father is or when that happened cuz it doesn’t matter #what matters is she still loves heart and encourages her kids to greet their big brother and they do!!! it’s sweet #Beckon was also an interesting touch bc they make it clear the only reason he doesnt eat umasou is bc he cant and not that he wouldn’t #but he’s still a funny and interesting character and that doesn’t get in the way of how we see him too much #same for baku he was pretty polite with heart esp from the start when he asks him if hes abandoned implying he would be prepared to #look out for him from the start. and at the end when he decides to spare him. I dont hate him at all hes just intimidating #you are umasou #doodles #I wanted to draw smth more detailed but I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go with the cartoony art style #or smth closer to realistic?? so this is like. some sort of compromise I guess

we don’t acknowledge enough how dee used to be a pageant winner when she was a kid and how much damage it did to her. she worked her ass off and got recognition for being pretty and talented at a young age and it was the only source of self esteem she could garner in a family that constantly berated and talked down to her. she sought after that external approval because it was the only way she could prove everyone around her wrong. her dream of being a performer didn’t come from a self-aggrandizing delusion— she genuinely showed a lot of potential when she was younger. but she went through an unflattering puberty and her spinal condition got worse and that natural talent she had as a kid plateaued way too early. the “former gifted kid” dilemma. she slowly lost the thing that promised her that she was good, but she was so desperate to keep holding onto it that she tried anyway. again and again and again no matter how much people made fun of her because it was always about proving them wrong. but after a while she couldn’t jump anymore without anticipating the way it feels when she hits the ground face first. self-sabotage became her way out, choosing to rather live in the fantasy of her own unrealized potential and blaming those around her for her lack of success, than having tried and crashed again. she’d rather buy lottery tickets over and over and never scratch off the numbers than to see that she lost. that self-sabotaging behavior bled into other aspects of her life too, from friendships to relationships to therapy. her own short lived success is what made her grow into embodying the cycle of failure.
