It's always confused me how people still claim that Mario is this self insert, blank slate character.

When I think "blank slate self insert" I think of the protagonists you play as in the Pokemon games. Characters that literally have no reaction to anything going on and don't have their own thoughts and feelings because their entire purpose is for anybody to project themselves onto.

If Mario really were a self insert kind of character, he wouldn't have feelings for Princess Peach. He wouldn't react to the things going on around him. Charles Martinet wouldn't be giving him silly little voice lines like "Come back here, you big monkey!" (Shouting to DK). He wouldn't be falling asleep dreaming of all kinds of different pasta noodles and Peach like in Odyssey.

I'm not arguing that he has a deep personality. I'm arguing that Mario has his own character. And a lot of people don't even give him that.

If we get our Luigi's Mansion movie, I'm very interested in seeing how King Boo's abilities would translate into a film format.

Bowser's abilities are pretty straightforward: strong, sturdy, has claws, breathes fire. Simple stuff. But King Boo? With that gem in his crown, his powers are kind of nebulous if not extremely OP:

Hyperrealistic Illusions

Telekinesis

Magical portrification

Materializing objects

Disappearing existing objects

Altering environmental physics

Self-duplication

Portal magic

Lightning

Altering the morality of surrounding ghosts(?)

I wonder if a movie would lay down some ground rules about the extent of what King Boo can do, or do something else to nerf him in one way or another.
