Coming Home by Della Van Hise
How long has it been since I gazed at your face? ...When was the last time I looked in your eyes? So many years, given in grace... But now I'm coming home.
The days that we shared on our Lady of Light Crawl lazily through my trembling heart And I am alone in infinite night... But now I'm coming home.
Though I am still shackled by logic's bitter chains, Other humans I've known are all in the past, When I look back quietly remembering you... I am eager to come home.
I remember that day -- when I knew you were gone, And the tide of grief which swallowed my soul. Then, my friend, I did not wish to survive, I was ready to follow you home.
This human half which showed me love's dawn, Has long been a memory, a haunting ghost; It forced me to live though you were gone... When I only wanted to come home.
I close my eyes, safe warmth, in your soul, Now knowing a truth I'd only sensed before. We walk hand in hand through an endless night's light... And now, Jim... together... we are home...

@a-most-beloved-fool i don't mind at all— in fact, thank you!! seeing these pages has been a DELIGHT.
unfortunately, more of alexis fegan black/della van hise's work has been "lost" than might ever be "found." by this i mean that she has been excluded from ao3 migration efforts for a few reasons, one of which being creative differences between her and fandom culture at large. she published her own fics to the site some years ago but they were removed due to self advertising, which was a whole thing... at the end of the day, she has since passed and therefore can never (re)give permission for her works to appear there.
that being said: op here has provided an AMAZING collection! i've always hated that so much of her zine era work is inaccessible aside from hard copies, which dwindle to fewer and fewer numbers as time passes. she was such an influential figure in the early k/s days. we have a lot to thank her for!
this particular story appeared in naked times #1. if you get your hands on a copy of that, you'll be able to finish it. otherwise... sorry, it will have to remain a mystery!

KiSCon 2022 Newsletter #3
Save the dates:
KiScon 2022 (entirely online): 4-6 November
Deadline for zine submissions: 1 August Deadline for program booklet submissions: 1 October Deadline for goodie bag submissions: 1 October Deadline for vidshow submissions: 10 October Deadline for cake contest submissions: 1 November
Second KiScord Pub Night: 11 June, 5:00 p.m. EDT
Dear K/S friends,
Greetings! We're back with our third progress report! 1. Memberships: Let's start with some statistics: So far, 46 people have registered for KiScon 2022 and we can't wait to meet them all! There are 13 additional fans who have joined Conline but not yet followed through with the registration process and payment. Which is all good as there is still plenty of time until the convention, but we would like to remind you: Registration on Conline is a 2-step process: 1) click “Join” to enter the KiScon area on Conline, then 2) click “Registration” to sign up for our 2022 convention. For a detailed explanation with screenshots, you can download this handy How-To (pdf). Just joining Conline and/or Discord without properly registering for KiScon will not get you a membership! If you are unsure whether you are already registered, please check your status on Conline: When you go to the Conline homepage and log in, then click on your name (upper right corner of the screen) and pick "Dashboard" from the drop-down menu, you should see KiScon listed among the conventions you are registered for. Of course, you can always check back with us if you feel unsure whether the registration or payment went through correctly.
Let us emphasise again that we recommend the use of a fannish name for your Conline profile, ideally your badge name (if you usually put both your real name and your fannish name on convention badges, only use the fannish part). We have also prepared a detailed guide for setting up or editing your Conline profile.
The concom is currently in the process of going through the list of members and contacting those with incomplete sign-ups or unclear usernames.
We are very happy to help you if you have questions or encounter problems. We want to make this experience of a virtual KiScon as pleasant and smooth as possible for you. Our tech expert 1lostone is happy to help you: 1lostone @ kiscon . org
2. KiScon Discord (“KiScord”):
To make the process of joining our "KiScord" a bit easier, we have created a detailed walkthrough with screenshots. You can download the pdf from our website. This document explains to you all the steps of creating a Discord account and joining the KiScon server.
Please note that Discord is an important tool in preparation for and during the convention weekend; we highly recommend familiarising yourself with it before the con, so that you can enjoy the discussions and activities in a smooth and relaxed way.
A great way to get to know Discord and its functions better, is to take part in one of our Pub Nights that we regularly host.
Our next Pub Night is on Saturday, June 11th, at 5:00 p.m. EDT (what time is that for me?) Games! Fun! Fic! Frolicking! Silliness! You have to bring your own Romulan Ale, though. 3. Pub Night Fic Recs During the last Pub Night we played the alphabet game, and that resulted in a lovely list of K/S fic recs. “A Gentle Nudge” by Rhaegal “Acquisition” by CateAdams “Blame the Wind” by Elise Madrid “Blood Fever” by T'Lara “Ctrl Alt Delete” by screamlet “Carnival” by jesmihr “Desideratum” by what_alchemy “Debt of Honor” by Brianna Falken “Eye Bleach” by Beedlebarg “Extra Oil, Light Butter, and Whipped Cream on the Side” by Alexis Fegan Black (not online, see Fanlore article) “The Friend” by Simone Allen “Fighting Gravity” by pantswarrior “Gentleman Alone” by DeeGilles “Glass Slippers Are Illogical” by CMM “Heart’s Survival (Rishan D’Kahf-spol)” by 1lostone “Inside the River” by yeaka “Idol” by J S Cavalcante “Just a Kiss” by Jenna Hilary Sinclair “Kaiidth” by TGuess “Legally Friends” by Weirdlittlestories “The Lotus Eaters” by aldora89 “Leave No Soul Behind” by whochick (this fic has a fanvid trailer by Paper Tiger) BONUS: OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH song rec: Ewan MacColl – The Handsome Cabin Boy A big thank-you to Kiona for compiling the list! 1lostone has also put it into a Google Doc for easier sharing. 4. KiScon Programming:
We have been collecting ideas and suggestions for panels and activities since before the first announcement of KiScon 2022, and we will send out the traditional survey at the end of August to gauge interests (would attend / would moderate or present) and tailor the program to our members' tastes and wishes. If you have topics you burn to see and discuss at the con – whether you want to actively present/moderate them, or just hope someone else will – please throw them into our direction: conchairs @ kiscon . org or via Discord. If you have a specific panel or activity in mind that you would like to claim as presenter/host at KiScon, e.g. a writing workshop, a game, a 101 on digital art, etc., please let us know too. 5. Cake:
A beautiful K/S-themed cake has long been a staple of KiScon throughout the years. We would like to carry on with this tradition even in the digital setting and invite everyone to take part in our cake contest. While we won't be able to taste the sweet creations, we'll be able to enjoy them in a visual way. Be it a big cake with buttercream drawings, or adorned with marzipan figures or peens, be it a K/S action figure variation of the infamous Barbie cake, or be it cake's little cousin, the cupcake, go wild and surprise us! We will present the creations in a virtual gallery (recipes/explanations of symbolism etc. and – of course – photos) and KiScon attendees will vote for their favourites. Photo toppers are allowed, but we ask you not to use other people's fanart without asking the artist first. You can create your K/S (cup)cake anytime before the con, but we need to have your recipe/photos submission no later than November 1st, 2022. 6. Where to find information & announcements: Official website KiScon Discord server Tumblr blog Twitter Conline Facebook Group Dreamwidth 7. Last but not least, an advance notice: Kirk/Spock Advent Calendar 2022 Advent Calendar, you say? It is June! It is only June, but as we all know: time flies, and this fannish event will have a long creation period. Originally established by kira-nerys in 2002, and hosted and moderated by different fans over the years (among them Amanda and arminaa, both KiScon veterans), this beloved K/S event will return this year. Brought to you by the mods of K/S Spring Fever, the fest takes place throughout the month of December. Please stay tuned for a more detailed announcement with all the links soon! In the meantime, we are happy to share the schedule: Sign-ups and prompt posts: September 1 - 30 Prompt claims and creation period: September 1 - November 20 Works due: November 20 Works revealed (gradually): Dec 1 - 31 The time for all these steps is: 11:59 PM UTC. We've marked those dates in our calendars, and hope many other fans will join in the fun. Yours in K/S,
T’Lara and Judy

hii this is really random but i'm writting a paper on star trek fanfiction from the 60s/70s and i was wondering if there were any fics youd recommend? are there any like iconic, keystone fics that are really significant to the fandom? (i'm having a bit of trouble sourcing pre-internet fics)
Hi! I'll try to help the best I can but I am by no means an expert- in fact, many people who end up seeing this may have better/more information so I'll extend it to any of them to answer as well :)
Disclaimer: many of the following links contain nsfw content!!!
Here is page 1 and page 2 of what might be the first known k/s fanfic published in Grup fanzine (1974). Grup is credited as being the first Star Trek fanzine with adult content. This fic, A Fragment Out of Time by Diane Marchant was vague enough that it had to be clarified as k/s in a later edition, but the author did do so.
Spockanalia is always a good source for early fandom. It is the earliest and best preserved example of fanzine content (beginning in 1967 before the second season had even aired). I'd definitely say that makes it influential! So much more can be found on the internet archive and on fanlore. Copies of Spockanalia found their ways into the hands of many people involved in the show, including Roddenberry himself.
Gayle F is a prolific fanzine artist (one of my favorites) for k/s and is also influential to k/s writing. She was behind the Cosmic Fuck Series (yes really lol) which begins with Desert Heat (1976) in which Spock prematurely enters his second Pon Farr with only Jim available to him. This is the first mention (that I know of) of Spock's "double ridges" which are still a fanon element of his anatomy today (fanlore link here).
Alexis Fegan Black is another name to know, but is actually the pen name for author Della Van Hise. She did a lot of her work in the 80s and beyond, so I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but I think she's very influential. You may know about her licensed trek novel Killing Time (1982) because the first edition was recalled for being way too gay (changes between the two versions are best documented here imo).
Jenna Sinclair was very influential but again, a lot of her works came a little later than what you're looking for (note: ao3 does NOT have the correct dates, you'll need to find those separately).
A few more links to throw at you:
List of Star Trek Fanzines
List of Star Trek SLASH Fanzines
Captain's Log (1968)
The Crewman's Log (1967)
Spock's Showcase (1968)
Spock's Underground (1968-71)
The Sensuous Vulcan (slash zine, 1977)
Thrust (slash zine, 1978)
I hope all these links work and at least something I mentioned is helpful for you!! Good luck! I'd love to hear about your research if you're so inclined to share :)

Private Possessions Fanzine & Novel | Jackie Zoost, Alayne, Marilyn Cole, Natasha Solten (1986)
Excerpts from Private Possessions below:
"Truth stared Kirk in the face.
But I can’t… I can’t just take advantage of the fact that he doesn’t remember me, dammit! Kirk argued fervently. I can’t play the role of his master, he thought, mentally choking on the word. Even if I wanted to, it would mean losing him forever…
And if he doesn’t recover, then he’ll still have his… dignity… and I’ll still have his friendship. It was a weak argument even to his own ears.
The Truth agreed. You’ll have nothing, it reminded him.
I’d rather have nothing than to have him on… on dishonest terms! He wouldn’t accept that and neither will I!
Truth laughed, shaking an admonishing finger at him. That’s your problem, Kirk, it stabbed without mercy. It’s always been an ‘all or nothing’ bargain with you, hasn’t it? You want the whole jar of candy or none at all. You’re spoiled, selfish and too noble for your own damned good or anyone else’s! It’s up to you, old friend.
Kirk found himself trembling. Why is it always up to me? he asked of no one in particular.
You’re the captain, the Truth-demon reminded him sarcastically. That was another of those ‘all or nothing’ bargains you struck with the universe, remember?
Kirk bit his lower lip until it was painful. Not now, his mind pleaded with his nasty conscience. I… I don’t even know what I’m feeling…
The Truth in his mind sighed disbelievingly. In case you’ve never labeled it, Kirk, it’s called love…"
+!
Edit: From what I understand, Alexis Fegan Black is a pen name for Della Van Hise (a fairly famous TOS author) and there has been much discourse from her about fandom... I'm not sure I understand all of it so I am adding this little note (and link) in an effort to be as informative and respectful to the source material as I can.
