god god god okay this is so hard and I will not ever agree with this ordering again after this exact moment but

5. Alligator Bites Never Heal (Doechii, 2024). listen. recency bias? MAYBE. but god fuck this album is brilliant, one of the best albums of 2024, hands down. I'm still finding more to love every time I relisten, and I'm so looking forward to where Doechii's career goes from this point.

4. Whack World (Tierra Whack, 2018). I'm so obsessed with Tierra Whack as an artist, the way she twists and turns and experiments with her art; there's nobody else like her. dropping a mixtape of 15 songs that are a minute or less is so!!! it's like flipping through an artist's sketchbook and being left wanting more on every page.

3. Traumazine (Megan Thee Stallion, 2022). zero shade to MEGAN, which is immaculate, but Traumazine has a little extra oomph that really does it for me and makes it almost impossible to narrow down a single favorite. zero shade on MEGAN, of course, it's also phenomenal, but Traumazine is just nestled so deep in my heart.

2. Scarlet 2 CLAUDE (Doja Cat, 2023). the OG Scarlet all by itself is immaculate but I HAVE to put 2 CLAUDE specifically on this list solely for OKLOSER. I was so hesitant to cite these albums as some of my favorites of 2023 because it was a bad press year for ol' Doja Cat but god listen I KNOW that she's kind of a demon, okay? but god she's so fucking GOOD.

GREY Area (Little Simz, 2019). this is it, this it the pinnacle. to ME. I am a person second and a Little Simz fan first.

that song got me through a breakup with a 5’6” boy who yelled at me when i talked about harry and said i wasn’t “allowed” to go to a harry concert without him

i also love a lot of sza, if you’re into rap i LOVE megan thee stallion (especially her album traumazine) and kendrick lamar

Megan Thee Stallion Releases Long-Awaited, New Album “MEGAN” 

Today, three-time, Grammy award-winning artist, entrepreneur and philanthropist Megan Thee Stallion unveiled her new album, MEGAN, which includes collaborations with Victoria Monet, GloRilla, UGK, Big K.R.I.T., Kyle Richh and Yuki Chiba.

With the album, Megan continues to showcase her versatility and global reach as a musician, teaming up with Japanese hip-hop artist Yuki Chiba on “MAMUSHI.” The pair recorded the song during the Houston native’s trip to Tokyo earlier this year. 

Megan also secured an appearance from Bun B and a posthumous verse from the late-great Pimp C for a special UGK collaboration on “PAPER TOGETHER.” It’s a full-circle moment for Megan, who grew up listening to the Port Arthur duo and has called Pimp C one of her favorite rappers. 

The self-titled album also includes previously-released songs like “COBRA,” “BOA,” and “HISS” – the latter of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year and became the first-ever, solo female rap song to debut No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. 

The announcement also comes as Megan extends her prolific “Hot Girl Summer Tour” with a new date in Atlanta, GA at State Farm Arena on July 2 and a domestic finale in Charlotte, NC at PNC Music Pavilion on July 3. Tickets for the newly-added dates are available for purchase at store.megantheestallion.com. 

To date, Megan’s tour has sold over 280,000 tickets and sold out 23 shows. Over the course of the tour, she has brought a wide array of special guests at select stops, including Cardi B, Latto, Flo Milli, Bun B, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Monaleo, Lil Keke and Z-Ro.  

Rolling Stone highlighted Megan’s tour in a review, writing “few artists, like Megan, can rip into double-time rhymes without missing a beat, all while moving all over the stage, dancing.” Meanwhile, Billboard noted that “Meg’s showmanship shouldn’t be questioned. She embodies the value of playing the long game and why, sometimes, good things come to those who wait.” 

“MEGAN” will mark Megan’s first studio album since Aug. 2022, when she released “TRAUMAZINE” that included collaborations with Dua Lipa, Key Glock, Jhené Aiko, Rico Nasty, Latto, Lucky Daye, Pooh Shiesty as well as Houston staples such as Sauce Walka, Big Pokey and Lil Keke.

I'm not super on top of new things, so for all of these I'm going to answer things that I either started (or continued for the first time) this year, regardless of when they came out!

1. Song of the year?

Mad Dog by the Crane Wives! If it wasn't my favorite song off their new album this year to begin with, it would have become it after associating it with Death Game Tour.

2. Album of the year?

I actually made a concentrated effort to listen to more albums this year! I think I'm going to select Traumazine by Megan Thee Stallion because it has so many of my favorite songs by her on it that I've been looping all year since, and also it's what made me a fan.

3. Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year?

Shaboozey! I heard Tipsy (A Drinking Song) on the radio and looked him up and found out that his newest album (Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going) is critically acclaimed and I completely understand why. omg.

4. Movie of the year?

Crimson Peak! This is the year I started getting into gothic horror.

8. Game of the year?

UMINEKO NO NAKO KORO NI. bringing out the full title with the intensity of yelling someone's full name. Danny and I finished the Question Arcs near the start of the year and I've gone full special interest mode about this game.

18. A memorable meal this year?

I'm going to say going out to eat with Ishti for their birthday, and not quite a meal but the lavender butter and bread you made as an appetizer runner up kfdfslk

25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one

Sort of! I worked on solidifying concepts for characters I've had for a while - including giving them designs - for a horror comedy game I was planning that's now shifting towards gothic horror.

Their names are the Bride and the Groom because they're not allowed to have identities outside of their marriage to each other <3
